Recently I decided to go to my local fighting game tournament.
Here's how it went.
I had been getting pretty good at Guilty Gear over the past few weeks, to the point where I was getting the input correctly for the Potemkin Buster 1 out of every 4 or 5 times I tried it. So I thought "I might not be the best yet, but, surely good enough for my local" -- and I decided to go.
It took place at a the comic & games store in the town center. The venue was full of people 10-15 years younger than me and even more drastically cooler. They all turned to glare at me as I walked through the door, but as I stood completely motionless like a gazelle hoping to blend into the grassland, their gazes slowly returned to each other and they continued to banter friendlily.
I sat down next to me first opponent, and reached out to shake their hand. They looked down at my hand, and then up at my eyes slowly.
"You're supposed to do that at the end of the match."
"Oh, s-sorry"
I got perfected twice and lost the match. At the end, I reached out again to shake their hand, but they just stood up and walked away.
Because I lost, I got moved down to the loser's bracket, which was literally below the main tournament because it took place in the basement of the comic shop. I could hear footsteps, cheering, and happy conversation in the floor above. Here in the loser's bracket though, the mood was a lot more somber.
My next opponent reminded me a little bit of me. They were equally nervous and disheveled looking. They said "Um, h-hello" and reached out their hand for a handshake as they saw me approaching. I said "you're s-supposed to do that at the end of the match." But as a look of deep sadness came over their face and they slowly put down their hand, I pulled them in for a hug.
I'm not sure why I did that.
I think that some part of me knew that, in this dark, dank, alien place, illuminated only by a single failing ceiling light and the neon glow of a few arcade machines, I had at last found a friend -- someone I understood, and who might understand me too.
They hugged back.
I lost that match by a very narrow margin, and as they jumped up and began dancing around and cheering ecstatically, I began to hate them. This was no friend of mine. A friend would not do this to me. After they were done dancing, they reached out to shake my hand. After a few seconds of pause, I stuck out my hand too, but didn't look at them and refused to close it around theirs as they grasped it. They shook my karate chop.
I thought that at that point, since I had lost and then lost in loser's bracket, I was free to go home. But one of the tournament organizers approached me and informed me that I was going down to sub-loser's bracket in the sub-basement of the store, and pointed me towards a descending staircase.
The people there were fewer, and it was darker. I could faintly hear sobbing in one of the corners, but as I went to investigate, another participant put his hand on my shoulder. He furrowed his brow in a look of pain and shook his head slowly.
"You can't do anything for them."
In sub-loser's bracket I went up against a man in a suit whose face was cloaked in shadow. He spammed May's dolphin move. I lost.
As I went to go back upstairs, one of the tournament organizers held out her palm to stop me, and pointed towards a staircase leading further down instead.
Going down through the levels, I lost to many interesting participants. One player played exclusively by bashing the controller against his face. One player was a mushroom with a few circuit cables clipped onto it, that I later learned was able to play because its bioelectrical signals got sent to a machine that interpreted them as fighting game inputs. One player didn't touch their controller at all, but instead just told me their life story, which was so tragic that I picked up their controller and won for them.
Finally, at the very bottom floor, where construction standards were long abandoned and the stairs and walls were just messily carved out of the earth's stone, I faced my final player. It was a small bit of metal framework, with a controller nestled in it. On it was a tiny piston that just pressed the jab button exactly once every second. I lost.
I hung my head for a moment, then said "close game" and stuck my hand out for a handshake, before remembering that I had played against a metal framework cube with a piston in it and retracting my hand slowly. Then I heard a slow clapping from the darkness.
"No neutral. No footsies."
Out of the darkness slowly walked a woman about my age, clad in a decorative poofy dress that looked more expensive than my entire life savings. She smiled at me warmly, continuing to clap slowly, but there was a hint of mischief in her eyes.
"No meter management. No mixups. No spacing. No learning. No strategy…
…You're perfect."
"Wh-what?"
"You're perfect. I absolutely must have you."
"Have me for…um…for what…"
(Her eyes went wide as her smile grew more manic.)
"WHY, MY MORON FAILSON HAREM OF COURSE."
"Um, I-I"
"Tell me, what do you do for a living? Let me guess, you work at a fast food restaurant? Or, retail?"
"No, I'm a--I'm a comic artist."
"HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!! Oh my god, you are PERFECT. What will it take to get you."
"To-to ge--"
"You would be well taken care of, of course. 3 Michelin star dining for every meal. Only the finest, softest sweatpants and sweatshirts, pre-stained with whatever flavor of Takis your little heart desires. You would have access to the entire mansion except for the main foyer when I'm in business calls, and you could make all the comics and play all the fighting games you want."
"I'm uh--"
I knew that I had to think fast here.
"I'm already i-in a moron failson harem."
"Oh, DARN IT!! TELL ME, WHO IS IT??? WHO GOT YOU??"
"I-I think I'm not allowed to s-sa--"
She stomped her foot petulantly, her shoe clacking against the stone floor.
"WAS IT SHUXUAN?? IT'S ALWAYS SHUXUAN HOGGING ALL OF THE GOOD ONES."
"I-I'm sorry," I blurted out, shuffling along the wall to make a wide radius around her and then running up the staircase.
As I got home and began making my standard dinner of Trader Joe's microwave falafel, I thought about her offer. Maybe I should have taken her up on it after all. A 3 Michelin star meal right now wouldn't be so bad.
Then I hopped on Guilty Gear and lost 22 matches in a row.

Lace Skirt. / Mike Schmidt.
summary : mike had been in a lot of under pressure lately. he needed a distraction. a distraction you will never forget of.  warning: fluff – smut a little?? enjoy!
Tumblr media
.·:*¨༺ ༻¨*:·..·:*¨༺ ༻¨*:·..·:*¨༺ ༻¨*:·..·:*¨༺
Tumblr media
Mike made a quick phone call, asking you to fetch his security jacket. His excuse? Claiming he was too fatigued to remember it. However, you were well aware that this was just a clever ruse to slip into the restaurant unnoticed using a straightforward yet highly effective code. With full knowledge of his true intentions, you couldn't help but stifle a chuckle on the other end of the line. In response, Mike subtly cautioned you to maintain a sense of "calm" to avoid raising any suspicion. This was one of the ways he enjoyed exerting control, a concept you'd previously touched upon when discussing "alphas."
While it might have come across as somewhat cringeworthy, Mike successfully conveyed your emotions and encouraged you to embrace your fantasies, especially when it had the potential to enhance the bond between you two. If there was one thing Mike despised above all else, it was the thought of losing you.
Upon your arrival at the Pizzeria, you took a moment to ensure your attire remained impeccable and unblemished before stepping inside. In contrast, the establishment appeared somewhat lackluster and unwelcoming, which made you consider mentioning it to Mike beforehand. Just before entering, you swiftly retrieved your phone and sent Mike a brief text message, a playful reminder that read: "Hello, handsome. I've arrived. XO."
The "XOs" at the end of your message were unmistakably your signature when Mike felt his phone vibrate in his pocket, prompting him to grab it eagerly. Without any delay, he responded with a thumbs-up, signaling that the door was ready to swing open for you. In his subsequent text, he added, "I hope you wore that Lace skirt I adore."
Certainly, you complied with Mike's request. In fact, before entering the venue, you took care to adjust your skirt a bit lower to combat the cold that greeted you. This adjustment wasn't in your favor, as you had been specifically instructed to wear the shortest skirt possible, which meant enduring the chill and the eerie atmosphere of the place. Mike was clearly in control. Another notification beep sounded just before you tried to signal him poorly with the light from your phone, and you received a message that read, "Meet me in the monitoring room, on the left."
Clear and efficient. You quickly managed to sneak in correctly with the directive Mike had gave you. Although the animatronics did scared you shitless, you were able to finally arrive in his office. Meaning you’d have to knock on the door, unless Mike was to busy focusing in his monitors, you though. Wrong. Mike had been waiting for you all along, especially when you heard the thick metal door opening. “Coming..” And a voice so familiar, it send shivers down your spine.
Mike's voice was noticeably hoarse and deeper than usual, and as you approached him, you could see the redness under his eyes. Though it deeply concerned you, with the hope that he would soon find some rest, seeing him in such a state oddly ignited a desire within you for reasons you couldn't quite explain. With a subtle smirk, Mike observed you as you walked closer to him, his fingers revealing an eagerness to touch your skin. However, he wanted to examine something first. He said, "Spin for me, darling."
You obliged, and as you spun around, you felt the flare of your skirt gently brushing against your skin. There was an electric tension between the transparency of the fabric and the chill in the air, and amidst it all, you could have sworn that you caught Mike sneakily lowering his head to steal a glance. In response, you deliberately made the peek more noticeable, swirling a bit longer. In the process, you lost your balance, and your foot accidentally tripped on a cable. But Mike was quick to catch you, securing you in his lap as if it were a graceful rescue. His arms wrapped protectively around your waist, and he playfully remarked, "Seems like your coordination has improved."
"Shh..." You interrupted him with a hushed tone. "I brought your jacket as you requested. Should I...?" He silenced you with a gentle gesture, his fingers lightly brushing against your plush lips, eliciting an uncontrollable blush – a quality he adored about you. As you settled comfortably on his lap, arranging your legs with his, you couldn't help but notice a growing hardness between his thighs. You smirked innocently, hoping he wouldn't notice, and you caught a few muttered curses under his breath.
While he attempted to conceal his desire, you seized the opportunity to speak for yourself. "Seems like someone is in the mood for a little teasing, huh?" Mike tilted his head, an intriguing glint in his eye, and he contradicted your observation when his fingers sensually trailed from your lips to your thighs. Just as casually, he lifted your skirt, leaning in to place a few tender kisses along your neck. "Well, look who's talking..."
At that instant, you became acutely aware that tonight, your mission was to divert Mike's attention. Regardless of the gravity of the situation, he had mastered your tactics and was keen on applying them beyond the confines of the room. His fingers firmly cupped your butt cheeks, prompting a surprised whimper to escape your lips as your eyes locked with his. With the most wicked smirk, he declared, "I'll make sure everyone knows you belong to me, my princess. I'll ensure it."

Sooo about Vox and Alastor...
The Radio Demon controls radio waves. Guess what?
Over-the-air television: Television broadcasting through radio waves, from a transmitter (TV station) to a receiver (TV antennae)
Satellite television: A TV signal transmitted by radio waves from a satellite.
Cable television: Radio frequency signals transmitted via cables
Until the early 2000s, TV signals were entirely transmitted through analogue signals: for decades, the original television technology only worked thanks to RADIO technology.
Tumblr media
Those antennae on Vox's head? They're 'rabbit ears'!! Dipole receivers, meant to intercept radio waves broadcasted by TV stations, convert them to radio frequency electric currents, and send those to the TV via a radio currents transmission line, to be converted and processed to produce pictures and sounds.
Tumblr media
It makes perfect sense for Vox and Alastor to have been "pals". Alastor calls him an " old pal" mockingly, but there's no way Vox would have been able to implement any kind of TV technology in Hell without the help of radio technology - technology that Alastor had control over. For decades, TV was literally radio with pictures. Alastor used to tolerate him (despite Vox encroaching on his territory) at worst, but might have supported him at best!
In my opinion, the beef between them comes from Vox's transition from Analogue to Digital, aka the digital switchover.
When Vox asked Alastor to join his team, it's possible he suggested Alastor switches to digital radio broadcasting (better sound quality, less transmission power required, a compressed digitized signal that allows for more radio programs in the same radio spectrum...). Of course, Alastor didn't care for that.
Was Vox's transition (partly) motivated by a desire to be more independent from Alastor? In any case, he's certainly not that much more independent now: streaming television and the streaming platforms & other services available on digital TVs depend on internet connectivity. And Wi-Fi uses radio waves.
In other words: Alastor's radio waves still live in Vox's TV head rent free, in the most literal way possible :3

champagne coast — james kelly
summary : when james knows he's going to be going to prison for a long time, he stops at your house one last time. ᝰ masterlist
requested by @motelofmermaids
Tumblr media
the rain poured down hard, echoing against the tin roof of your trailer. you sigh and try to find something half-way decent on the cable channels that were coming in through the storm.
a loud knock on your door startles you but you're quick to answer the door. james kelly stands before you, hair matted to his forehead from the rain. it's been some time since you'd last seen him, but you'd be damned if you're gonna leave him out in the rain.
you side stepped allowing him into the space, “jamie, what are you doing here?” your voice came out a little cold but it wasn't your intention.
“baby, i need you one last time. I don't know when I'll be able to see you again,” he closed the door, leaning against it.
“james, what d’ya mean? what's going on, talk to me please.” he pulled you close, calloused fingers gripping your waist.
“i’m going away, darlin, ten years or somethin’. please just one last time, can't go away without feeling that pretty little pussy around me again.” he sighs, forehead pushed against yours. his cock hard in his pants, just thinking about you.
“oh jamie, what did frankie get you into?” it was a rhetorical question, and you let him pull you close. this was the man that you thought you'd spend the rest of your days with.
he sighs again, before enveloping your lips with his, rough and fast. fingers bunching your shirt, trying to pull you as close as possible. he always has a way of making your brain turn off, his lips shutting down any sign of coherent thinking.
your hands climb up his chest, wrapping themselves around his neck. he gives you a little tap on your hip, signaling to let him pick you up. your legs wrap around him as he boosts you up, pinning you against the harsh wood of your front door.
you can't help but whine into his mouth, he groans in return. one hand holding you up, and the other rubbing circles on your clit through your pantines.
you throw your head back, it's been so long since you'd been touched, not to mention someone who knows your body like it's his.
“fuck, doll, you're so wet f’me. think you're ready?” his movements don't stop, but he's looking into your eyes, he needs to make sure you're okay.
“ready, jamie, please fuck me.” you’re needy for him and if he doesn't fill you up soon, you might combust.
he just shoved his pants and underwear down just under his cock. pushing your panties to the side, he's running out of time. or at least, that's how he feels right now.
there's already sweat collecting on the back of your neck. he pushed his cock into your cunt, cursing under his breath as your walls swallow him.
“always take me so well, pretty girl.” you're a whining mess, only being able to babble out his name over and over again. his hips piston, letting the head of his dick hit that special spot, thr one makes you feel like you're falling apart.
you bite into his shoulder, needing some grasp of control as you're being ruined by your high school sweetheart. he groans out because of it, making him go even faster.
“fuck baby, you close?" he asks, gruffly. you nod, hastily against him. he continues to rub harsh circles on your clit making you come with him.
“jamie!” you moan, basically scream as you cream around his cock, his cum filling up your unprotected cunt. he smiles lovingly down at you, helping you down and onto the couch.
he cleans you up and sprawls on the couch with you, “wish i didn't have to go,” he sighs and presses a kiss onto the top of your head.
“i’ll come visit you, jamie, i promise. don't try to force me away, promise me you won't.” he looks away from you at your confession, a disgruntled look on his face.
“a decade is a long time, doll. I don't want you to wait for me. it's not fair to you,” he sounds so sad. like he thought he didn't deserve someone who would want to wait for him.
“that’s my decision, not yours. you don't get to choose that for me.” your voice is soft, you're not upset with him. you just love him.
“i love you, baby. thank you.”

I kinda made an alternate version of the yandere! Internet monster x reader thing lol
the gist is that the reader already had a bf but the sentient computer wants to get him out of the picture without you noticing
so the computer's ai takes control of reader's bf's body completely and kills him mentally and uses his body as a vessel and yet the reader is none the wiser.
Now I'm curious about the logistics of it. How does the computer take over the body? I'm guessing actual cables plugged in the boyfriend's back would be a tad too obvious, but remote control might have limited coverage. Imagine taking the boyfriend for a hike outside of town, no signal, and suddenly he bops on the ground because the connection is lost. Ah, I suppose a third option would be some sort of small chip sized virus that enters the body.
Either way, it's interesting to consider how an artificial computer would manage to interact with a living organism and control it. With a computer, you alter the code. How does it work the other way round with humans? It's somewhere between fantasy and SciFi, depending on whether you want to go for a Mind flayer kind of psychic control or some bizarrely futuristic technology.
Alternatively, you could share the whole story if you're at some point comfortable with it. The trailer already sounds promising. :D

I can't believe you forgot the five thousand dollar HDMI cable! That's the most important part! Never mind the fact that most HDMI cables do basically the same thing and have very few specialized features, don't think about it. Never mind the fact that gold plating is worthless on a digital signal. Spend five thousand dollars on a gold plated HDMI lead, right now!
You can never go wrong with AudioQuest. If you want overpriced cable nonsense, they got you covered.
Meet the Dragon "10K" HDMI cable.
Tumblr media
For a cool $2300 you can get "Level 7 Noise Dissipation."
LEVEL 7!!!!!
Check out this totally scientific description of this feature...
"Traditional “100% shielding” is not enough to guard against the increasingly prevalent effects of Wi-Fi, cellular, and satellite radiation. In AudioQuest HDMI cables, all 19 conductors are Direction-Controlled to minimize the RF Noise that damages performance by “directing” or draining it away from the most vulnerable circuits. In Level 7 Noise Dissipation, high-loss graphene is added to the carbon layer sandwiched between layers of metal around the 4 FRL + eARC pairs, a "global" high-loss carbon layer is placed around all conductors, we incorporate our patented 72v Dielectric-Bias System, and even the drain wires are 100% Perfect-Surface Silver."
I'm sure all of that would hold up to scientific scrutiny.
I mean, sure, you are just transferring 1s and 0s back and forth, and as long as all of the 1s and 0s get where they need to go, your picture will look exactly the same with a $10 cable as it does with a $2300 cable... but I really do need that Level 7 dissipation. My house is constantly flooded with satellite radiation.
Yes, there are shitty HDMI cables. And some of them struggle to meet the bandwidth they claim on the packaging. This will cause no picture or sound or it will cause dropouts or skipped frames. Sometimes you will get crazy artifacts that pop in and out. But you cannot improve video or audio quality with a fancy cable.
You will not see magical colors so bright you cum in your shorts.
You will not hear indescribably intense bass that will violently vibrate your testicles--killing your sperm. That was microplastics, okay?
You will get the data that was encoded into the media file.
You just need a cable that can pass along that data without incident. Buying a "good" cable is actually recommended. Blue Jeans Cable is a great brand that has high quality control standards and a good warranty. They are a little spendy, but everything is a good value.
Their website is built on ancient GeoCities technology...
Tumblr media
So you know they prioritize their budget toward R&D and product design over graphic designer or a subscription to Squarespace.
I buy their cables because they always meet the data bandwidth they claim and they can take abuse due to using tougher materials that last.
My best advice when buying an HDMI or other data cable is to figure out how much bandwidth you need, and then make sure in the product description they mention the data rate.
So if you want 4K resolution at 60 Hz, you will need a cable that does at least 18 gigabits per second. If you need 4K/120Hz/4:4:4/12 bit, then the bandwidth should be 48 Gbps. And if you get more bandwidth than you actually need, the cable is backwards compatible.
Here is a handy chart...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
USUALLY, if they list the actual data rate (Gbps) in the product description, you can trust they certified it can pass that much data through. It's when you don't see any Gbps rating in the product description that you should move on to another cable.
(USB standards are insanely confusing, but the same advice applies. Try to find out the data rate you need and research to make sure the cable is capable of that.)
I'm afraid all of this cable nonsense goes back a long way. When I turned 16 I immediately applied for a job at Best Buy selling computers. And I really loved that job. So many people were clueless about computers back then and I was very good at assessing their needs and making sure they went home with the equipment and accessories that would suit them within their budget.
And if they tried to buy the eMachines computers, I would tell them they might as well set their money on fire.
Tumblr media
Throw directly into trash because this is some hot garbage.
Unfortunately my managers pressured me to sell warranties and accessories that I didn't really believe in. The hardest thing they asked me to do was sell people gold-plated printer cables. This is back when printers still used a parallel port connection.
They wanted me to sell these for $40 to $60 (depending on length).
Tumblr media
Even though these bad boys did the exact same thing for only $20.
Tumblr media
I could actually see on the store's computer how much markup these cables had. The cheap ones cost Best Buy the exact same amount as the gold ones.
Maybe they weren't as aesthetically pleasing, but those cheaper cables were built like fuckin' tanks. I probably still have some of these in my basement that would function just as well as they did 25 years ago.
The ONLY difference was the "gold" contacts on the ends. But my managers told me to lie to customers. I was to tell them you would get much faster print speeds, better colors, and more DPI (dots per inch). But both cables sent the same 1s and 0s. They either worked or they didn't. The only tiny advantage is that gold contacts are slightly less resistant to corrosion over time. But I have yet to see that happen within the lifespan of any cable.
So I would tell customers it was a waste of money and lie to my managers saying the customers weren't interested.
"Did you tell them it was faster?" "Yes." (A lie.) "Did you tell them it made the colors better?" "Yes." (Also a lie.) "Well, we're going to have to work on your sales presentation skills." "Sounds good, boss." (Whatever, dude.)

Unraveling the Wonders of the Neuron and Brain (Part 1)
Hey there, Tumblr fam! Today, let's dive deep into the intricate world of neurons and the brain. 🧠✨
Anatomy of a Neuron
Neurons are the building blocks of the nervous system, responsible for transmitting information throughout your body. They have a unique structure, consisting of three main parts:
Cell Body (Soma): This is like the neuron's control center. It contains the nucleus, which houses the cell's DNA and controls its activities.
Dendrites: These branch-like extensions protruding from the cell body are the neuron's antennae. They receive signals from other neurons or sensory receptors, transmitting these signals to the cell body.
Axon: Think of the axon as the neuron's transmission line. It's a long, slender, cable-like structure that carries signals away from the cell body, toward other neurons or target cells.
At the end of the axon, you'll find axon terminals, where neurotransmitters are released to communicate with the next neuron or target cell.
Physiology of a Neuron
Neurons are all about transmitting information through electrical impulses and chemical signals. Here's a quick rundown:
Resting Membrane Potential: Neurons have a resting state where the inside is negatively charged compared to the outside due to the uneven distribution of ions (like sodium and potassium) across the cell membrane. This creates a potential difference called the resting membrane potential.
Action Potential: When a neuron receives a strong enough signal (usually from dendrites), it can generate an action potential—a rapid change in membrane potential. This electrical signal travels down the axon like a wave.
Synaptic Transmission: When the action potential reaches the axon terminals, it triggers the release of neurotransmitters into the synapse, the tiny gap between neurons. These chemicals bind to receptors on the next neuron, initiating a new electrical signal.
The Marvelous Brain
Now, let's shift our focus to the brain—the command center of your entire nervous system. 🌟
Your brain consists of various regions, each with specific functions. Here are a few key areas:
Cerebrum: This is the largest part and is divided into two hemispheres, each responsible for various cognitive functions like thinking, memory, and sensory perception.
Cerebellum: Located at the back of your brain, it plays a crucial role in balance, coordination, and fine motor skills.
Brainstem: Situated at the base of the brain, it controls basic life-sustaining functions like breathing and heart rate.
Hippocampus: Essential for memory formation and storage.
Amygdala: Involved in processing emotions and emotional memories.
And there's so much more to explore!

Alastor couldn't believe that Husker of all people had convinced him to do this.
He really didn't want to do this, but apparently, there was "no one available to do the job". What a lie. Literally, anyone in this goddamn city would have been able to do this if it wasn't because the damn tv was nowhere to be seen. Valentino had a rage sprout during the blackout and Velvette was getting him distracted before he actually hurt Vox in the process. What a bunch of losers. Who in their right mind let those three take control of the city while he was away? Lucifer wasn't doing a good job, it seems. Well, who was he to judge.
While walking in the dark streets he encountered all kind of sinners. The kind that took advantage of the darkness and the kind that panicked about it. Some of them were upset of having no signal. That's what happens when you put all your trust in an unstable individual. Charlie had told him to get to Vox's tower as fast as possible, but a little time spent in the darkness wouldn't be too bad for their health. Their brains had already rott with those screens, they should touch some grass.
Vox's tower was defended with all its artifacts and armaments, so Alastor opted to use his shadows to get into the building. Inside it was as dark as his shadows. Alastor followed the halls that he remembered leading to Vox's office. It was exactly where it was seven years ago, and when he managed to get in, it was the same as before, but a little more full of monitors. Vox's sharks and some sparks from the cables were the only sources of light. Alastor walked to Vox's motionless body, resting in his chair. He would never admit that he got the goosebumps, but he saw how the cables were still pressed against Vox's TV head, and that something was twitching in the monitors.
"Vox", he tried to call his old pal, but there was no verbal answer. Instead, one monitor glitched and, with the screen still dark, one single little red light turn on. He was listening. Good. Alastor remembered when this kind of thing used to happen before; Vox would try to use more power than he could handle and end up lost on his wires. Alastor always helped him get out. But this time, it wasn't as if he was stuck, no, it looked as if he was hiding from something. "It has been a long time, hm?" There wasn't anything to say, either way. Vox didn't look like he wanted to talk, less to Alastor of all people.
"Just so you know, I was practically forced to be here, so don't get your hopes up," he remembered when Vox used to be so hyped by the mere fact that they were gonna be sitting next to each other on an overlord's meeting. He hoped that hadn't changed between them. Then again, they did have a fight right after he got back.
"Get out of there and bring back the light to the pentagram already, Vox," he was getting tired of this, there was no way this prick was gonna listen to him anyway. The lights, slowly but steadily, started to return to every house in the pride ring. Well, that was something. Still, Vox was on the monitors, doing who knows what. Alastor sighed, of fucking course this asshole didn't have the guts to face him again.
"I doubt the Radioo Demon was just forced to come and calm down a pathetic crybaby," Vox's deep voice said through the speakers. His voice was hoarse, Alastor noticed, as if he had been crying. Vox was right, tho. He wasn't completely forced, but he had been convinced by a very persuasive bartender cat who knew how to read him like a book.
"It's not as if it was my first time seeing you this way. Besides, your partners were somewhat busy at the moment, and there is no one else who knows about your little addiction to getting lost on those electronic snakes."
"Wires," he corrected but otherwise said nothing. Alastor picked at his nails waiting for Vox to do something. He did nothing.
"Well, time's up! I came here with a job and it's done. Have a nice mental breakdown, my dear fellow, may we never see each other again!" Sparks and glitches surrounded the monitors and an electronic wave passed through the wires until getting on Vox's head. His screen tilted on and his face appeared, but he didn't move. Alastor knew that it took a while for Vox to regain full control of his body so he took advantage of those seconds to examine him. His face was drawn in the most boring, disinterested look Alastor had ever seen him do, he wore big eyebags and looked sick overall.
Sometimes, Alastor wished to not smile at all. This wasn't a moment in which he should be smiling, and yet he was. It might have been convenient for him in numerous times, but with Vox, he just felt fake. And Vox knew that.
"If your face wasn't sewn, would you truly be happy to see me?" Vox didn't look up when he talked, but Alastor could see his disappointment in his monotone voice. How he changed in the seven years they were apart. It was almost as if he was a completely different demon.
"Like this? ...No," he summoned his shadows and got out of that sad pathetic tower. On the streets, he took one last glance in his direction, dropping his gaze. He had expected to be meeting his number one fan and only friend. Instead, he met a depressed overpowered overlord who didn't remember when was the last time he truly smiled. And to be honest, Alastor didn't remember when was the last time he was truly happy either.
(I don't know what kind of crack was I on when I wrote this but I found it on my notes, so I edited the fucking grammar and now here it is, enjoy)

It’s one of those rare rainy nights in Hurricane when the woman enters the bar.
Friday evening and not long after the 9-5 shift has concluded and the room is already filling.
This latest entry climbs up onto one of the barstools and orders. Slides back down to remove her jacket and place it on the stool. Wallet clutched in hand. Pencil skirt, blouse with one button undone. A small gold chain with a cross at her throat.
The man beside her had not meant to look more than once. But he does. He looks at her and as if sensing his eyes she regards him. A glass is set on a beverage napkin in front of her. She reaches for it. No ring on her finger, though that doesn’t mean anything nowadays. He figures she’s near his age, a little younger. Late twenties, early thirties at most. Takes a dainty sip of the clear mixed cocktail. Her nails are long, polished.
His own are ragged. Cuticles unkempt. Nail beds and fingers and creases of his palms forever stained from the machinery he works on. The animatronics have wreaked havoc on him in more ways than one. He has a ring on his finger. He has a wife and children. He shouldn’t be looking. But he does.
The chatter in the restaurant is white noise. He signals the bartender for another round for both of them. His own drink is amber. Whiskey. She murmurs a soft protest, then thanks him. The liquor runs smooth over his tongue. The ice cubes in her glass click together gently. He rests his arm on the counter. Hers settles near his. Almost making contact. Their eyes link. Another round. Another.
Any caution he might have considered is now drowned beneath the alcohol he’s imbibed. He doesn’t usually drink. And certainly not this quantity. He’s willing to bet the woman beside him doesn’t either. Her cheeks are flushed, pink and pretty. He likes how soft she looks. So different from the alloys and the circuits and the gears and the cables he surrounds himself with everyday.
He helps her put on her coat. Helps her remove it again in the back of his car. The rough engineer’s hands tear her nylons in their frenzy. He licks her mouth open. She lowers herself onto him. The windows fog. Little whimpers and sighs. His beard chafes the skin of her throat. She tightens around him and he spills into her.
They never exchange names or numbers. She straightens her clothing and walks away. He sits behind the wheel and listens to the rain.
***
The next morning the guilt is heavy. Regret. His daughter is missing and the knots twist in his stomach.
“I made a terrible mistake last night, Will,” he says to his business partner.
Afton looks different this morning. His eyes are fever bright. There is a flush to his usually pale skin. He looks exultant, as if he’s discovered something. He knows the look well. He’d seen in during their college years. In the years that have followed when they’d founded the business.
“It’s not your fault Charlie’s missing. I’m sure she’ll turn up. I’ll help look for her,” William says. There is something in his smile. Meant to be reassuring, but it does not quite meet his eyes.
“That’s not what I’m talking about. I mean, yes, I’m worried about her, but it’s not just that.”
“Judging from your scent I can see you spent some time at the local watering hole.” The pale eyed man folds his arms across his chest.
“There was a woman.”
“Ah.” Just that. William seems to understand immediately where this is heading.
“It just…happened.”
“Of course it did.” The seated man cannot tell if the other is mocking him or not. “Did you at least take precautions?”
“No. I mean, unless she’s on birth control. I don’t know.” He drags a hand through his hair. “You’re not…you’re not going to say anything to…”
“No. Your secret is safe with me, old friend.”
He sighs heavily. “We have to find Charlie. I hope she’s alright.”
“I’m sure she’s absolutely fine. Probably just hiding. We’ll find her tucked away cozy somewhere, I’m certain.” He smiles again. It is not warm and it does not reassure the other man. A hand reaches to squeeze his arm. There is something staining one of his fingers. Rust colored, except he doubts that that is what it is. It looks more like…
“Shall we start looking?”
Henry Emily swallows and nods, following William Afton out of the manager’s office.
***
You slump into the kitchen chair—the one you’d previously occupied, now that your mother has returned—and look across the table at your stepfather.
You see Steve lift and set his fork back down without utilizing the utensil. Your mother is talking about her trip. You inhale and the bearded man exhales.
“Is everything alright? You haven’t touched your food.”
“I’m not really hungry,” he says. His eyes have not left your face.
You dig your fork into the pile of fluffy scrambled eggs and take a bite. It is ash in your mouth. You struggle to chew and swallow past the lump in your throat. It takes every effort not to begin crying again.
Eventually you plead unfinished homework and retreat to your room. Your mother enters soon after, sitting on the edge of the bed.
“You seem upset. Did something happen?”
“I’m fine. Just a little stressed with school.” You force a smile.
“That’s a pretty necklace. Who got you that?”
You’d forgotten you’re still wearing the heart your stepdad had gifted you. “Oh. I picked it out for myself.” You clutch the pendant, tracing the curves of its shape.
“Sweetheart, you know you can talk to me about anything. Is it a boy at school that’s bothering you?”
“I don’t have a boyfriend at school. Honestly, mom.” You slide the pendant back and forth on the chain.
She hesitates. “Was everything okay while I was gone? With Steve?”
“Yeah. He’s been great. You don’t need to worry, mom, honestly.”
“I’m going to get started on the housework. I’m around if you want to talk, okay?”
“Okay, mom.” Her lips brush your cheek and she combs through your hair before turning to leave.
The door closes softly behind her.
***
You’ve survived the day, mostly by hiding, emerging only for meals you barely consume.
Steve continues to stare. You stare back.
The yellow rabbit he’d won for you is tucked beneath your arm. The beautiful pink roses he’d gifted you are still hidden in your closet, along with the clothes you’d picked out together. Lingerie buried in your dresser drawers.
You hear the door creak open and don’t open your eyes. Your mother probably about to check on you a final time. You’re being too obvious with your sulking and your isolation. You don’t know how else you can behave given the circumstances.
The door closes again and you hear it lock. Your eyes snap open, suddenly alert. You recognize the sound of those weighted footsteps.
The comforter and top sheet are pulled off of you. Your heart is racing. The mattress creaks when he climbs over you.
“She’ll hear you,” you protest softly. One calloused hand drags against your hip.
“I don’t care,” he whispers harshly. His mouth is rough against yours. You whimper, lifting your hips to help him slide your panties off. He moans against your throat when your bodies are joined again. “I need you.” His voice is raw, the words tearing jaggedly from his throat. He fucks into you gently. Your knees squeeze his ribs and you roll your hips into him. Too loud, you think, the panting breaths and the squeaking bed. You can’t stop. You don’t want him to stop, either.
“Daddy.”
His breath huffs over your lips. “My daughter.” His tongue slides across yours.
“Feel so good inside me, Daddy.”
“Baby girl…” His hips work faster, his cock sawing in and out, coated in your slick, your body welcoming him deeper. He laces his fingers through yours and pushes your linked hands down into your pillow. His kisses are salted. Nervous perspiration, maybe. The heat of you together.
His breathing goes ragged, shuddering. Your mouth traps the sound of his ultimate pleasure as he spills into you.
“You’re mine,” he pants beside your ear. “I’m not letting you go.”
***
You hear your mother and stepfather arguing.
It wakes you up early the next morning. You’re supposed to be getting ready for school soon. You remain in bed, your heart pounding as you eavesdrop.
“I know something happened while I was gone. I’m not blind, Steve. She won’t tell me. She’s afraid to.”
“If you’re implying—”
“—I trusted you. You’re supposed to be protecting her. She’s never had a father.”
“That’s my fault how, exactly? Because you had a one night stand with some random stranger in a bar eighteen years ago and didn’t bother to get so much as a name—”
“—I know his name. I found it out later. I lied to Henry and told him I was getting an abortion. He was going to do the right thing—”
“—I…what?” Steve’s voice changes abruptly. So soft you can barely hear him now. You draw back the covers and tiptoe over to the wall, pressing your ear against it. “What was his name?”
“It hardly matters now. He’s long gone. Anyway, you’re missing the point—”
“—What was his name?” Raglan repeats. Still so quiet.
“Henry Emily.”
Your mother knew. She’d always told you she didn’t. A lie of eighteen years now uncovered. You lean back against the wall heavily, needing support. How quickly your whole world was falling apart around you.
Silence for a long time. You hear the adjoining bathroom door open and close. Your eyes flick to the clock. It’s time to get ready for school.
***
The silence continues around the breakfast table. Steve doesn’t touch his coffee. You push your full plate away. He is still staring at you, but now there’s something different in that look. You don’t understand the foreign glint in his eyes.
Your mother still has a week off from work. Perhaps she’s grateful for an excuse not be around your stepfather right now. She busies herself with the housework.
You follow the older man out the door. His vehicle is behind yours, your mother’s beside his. You can still feel the weight of his gaze when you enter the car.
***
You have study hall last period today. You leave early, your car now headed to the social services office your parents work in. You have only been here a few times. Usually just to drop something off or pick something up. Never for a visit. Never for this.
You’re recognized instantly in reception and after a quick phone call told you can go head on in. Steve’s office door is plain, solid wood. His name and title are slotted on a plate beside it. You knock and hear his voice.
You enter and close the door behind you.
His office smells like coffee. It’s warmly lit by a pair of lamps, cozier without the use of the standard office fluorescents above. The window blinds are closed. There is a lot in that small space. It’s organized, but crowded. Filing cabinets and bookshelves. A framed district map and nature scene and certificates on the walls.
Your stepfather looks up from the folder sitting on his desk, setting the pen in his hand down on top of it.
“Why aren’t you in school?”
“I had study hall last period. Are you mad at me?”
He hasn’t said a word to you all day before this. You know it’s got something to do with the conversation he’d had with your mother that morning. Something about the revelation of your real father’s identity.
“No, I’m not mad at you.”
His voice is quiet. Neutral. His hands are clenched into fists. There is a tight set to his bearded jaw.
“You’re upset,” you insist. “Did you know my father?”
He blinks. The clock on the wall ticks softly. A little gurgle from the heated pot of coffee that’s still seated on the burner.
“So you eavesdropped.”
“I could hear you arguing. It woke me up.”
“Yes, I knew your father,” he admits quietly.
Your fingers clutch the vinyl chair in front of you. “Did you…did you know him well?”
“Yes. We attended college together. Founded a business together.”
“The restaurant?”
He nods. “He was the engineer. I focused on the economical side of things. There was overlap between the two eventually.”
“You were friends, then.”
“Yes.”
“Close?”
“Yes.”
“Did he tell you about my mother?”
“He did mention her briefly, yes.”
Your breath shudders. He was so eerily calm. You think you’d prefer his anger from the morning at this point. “Do I look like him?”
“The resemblance is uncanny. I can’t believe I didn’t see it sooner. Of course you know you look nothing like your mother. I knew it was your father’s genes responsible. I just didn’t realize who he was.”
“Do you know where he is now?”
“He’s gone.”
“Gone as in skipped town or…?”
“Deceased.”
Your stomach lurches. “What happened?”
“He was very unhappy. He chose to end things early.”
“He killed himself?” You whisper.
“The disappearance of his daughter—your half-sister—he never recovered from that. Then his son went missing and it overwhelmed him. His marriage fell apart. She went first and then he followed.”
“They both…he was…” You’re feeling lightheaded. It’s too much. Granted the man was a stranger, your half-siblings the same, but still.
“Have a seat.” He rises from the desk and guides you into one of the chairs meant for clients. “It’s a lot to take in all at once.”
“So they never found my…my half-siblings?”
“No.”
“And that’s the reason the restaurant closed, because my father…Henry…”
“A little more than that, but it certainly was the start of the collapse as it were.” He drags the chair near yours closer and settles into it. “Look at me.”
You struggle to meet your stepfather’s gaze.
“I know it’s difficult. But you have a right to know the truth. I’m not upset with you. You’ve done nothing wrong. I need you to understand that.” He brushes back the hair from your face.
You wonder if you would have gotten along with your dad. If his wife would have resented your existence. If you and your half-siblings would have played hide and seek in the vast space of the restaurant and snuck into a movie theater to see an R rated horror movie and argued over drive thru options from the rear of the car and whispered secrets, co-conspirators. Suddenly you’re wondering about a life you could have had. Maybe it had been better being an only child. Easier. Attention focused only on you. But the decision had been made for you. No choice. You’re not sure how to feel about that regret for something and someone you’ll never experience now.
“Do you have any pictures of him?”
“No, but I’m sure they exist in some form. An old news article online, maybe.”
“Was he a good person? I mean, outside of the affair and…”
“Yes, he was. Henry had to battle his own inner demons, as all men do, but overall yes, he was a kind, decent human being. There is no shame in being his descendant.”
“You really cared about him?”
A sigh, exhaled with a faint shudder. “Yes, I really did.”
You nod. It’s something, anyway. Some small comfort. A link to your father through this surrogate.
“Are you going to tell mom?”
“I don’t think it’s relevant at this juncture. You are the one that needed to know.”
“What are you going to do about…”
“I’m working that out. I promise. My feelings for you have not changed.” He stands. You rise to your feet. “You still want me, baby girl?” His voice is husky.
“Yes, Daddy.”
Another shuddering sigh. His mouth crushes yours.
***
William rushes through the last two appointments of the day.
He’s told you to wait for him at the pizzeria.
He still can’t believe you’re Henry’s daughter.
How strange fate was to bring you into his path this way. As if you cannot escape each other. Forever destined to intertwine.
He wonders where your eldest half-sibling is. If fate will somehow bring him back to him as well. He’d be 25 now. Something like that. The last time he’d seen him had been at that state park in Nebraska. A family camping trip turned into another tragedy when he’d stolen Henry’s youngest son.
William parks beside your car. He cannot help but see Henry now when he looks at you. Maybe that’s what had drawn him to you all along.
He brings you back to the manager’s office. He thinks about your father seated there behind the desk he’s just set you on, confessing his act of adultery that had created you.
There is no foreplay that afternoon.
William reaches beneath your uniform skirt and jerks your panties down. He unfastens his belt and opens his pants and shoves his cock into you.
“Oh, baby girl. I need this so badly…” He nips your throat.
“Daddy…” You wrap your legs around his waist and he leans into you, penetrating you more deeply.
“You like it, sweet girl? Hmmm?”
“Yes, Daddy.”
“Tell Daddy how much you love his big cock in you.”
“I love it. I love your big cock, Daddy,” you gasp. Your nails clutch his back as his prick drives against your pussy over and over, punching little moans of pleasure out of your lungs. “Love it when you fill me up so full of your cum…”
“You want that, baby girl? Want Daddy to breed you? I’m gonna to fill you so fucking full…”
“Yes, Daddy,” you whine. Your lips are parted beneath his. He lets a trail of saliva drop down onto your tongue before he slides tightly wrapped lips over it, sucking it back off your tongue, mouth moving over it like he’s working over a cock, getting it all spit slick. His prick pistons roughly, ramming against your cervix. “Love it, Daddy. Love it, love it, love you…”
Your hair pulled back roughly so you’re looking into his eyes. “You’re mine,” he growls. Not Henry’s daughter. His. He never wanted you. Afton’s always wanted you from the moment he’d laid eyes on you.
“I am yours, Daddy. Just yours.” You stretch to capture his lips.
“Made for me. Mine.” The pounding has become so wet and sloppy and frantic. You’re both sweating. You cling to him and rock and grind against him.
“Daddy, I’m gonna cum. Fuck, Daddy…” He feels you twitch and spasm and shudder around him. One hand slams down on the desk, fingers gripping the edge tightly. The knuckles blanch whiter and whiter. The light leaving Garrett’s eyes. His rough kisses split your bottom lip and draw blood. So much of it from such a small body. Charlie’s wide, surprised eyes, so like your own…
William explodes, filling you with his seed as promised. He feels your hand on the arm still held taut, gripping the desk. He realizes you’ve been trying to get his attention. He rockets back from the past and his gaze focuses on you.
“Steve…”
“My name’s not Steve, it’s William.”
Another long kept secret revealed.

A Charming Life
Chapter 2:
Daring didn’t like the glint in his father’s eye, it never was a good sign of things to come. “Son, I’m going to give you the principality of Dragon’s head. Pack your things.”
That was how he found himself on a train to the wildest and most remote Charming principality. Part of him was glad for it, it meant that he wouldn’t have to face his relatives, some of which will be disappointed, and others who will revel gleefully at his loss as the Charming Golden child. He was actually glad that for once in his life, a plan of his actually worked. All he had to do was finish up some paperwork and keep his head down, and after everything that had happened, he would be more than happy to do that.
Of course, heaven forbid his life ever be that easy. The Castle he was sent to didn’t have any servants, or any running water or electricity for that matter. He groaned, how could it have slipped his mind that his exile was meant to be a punishment. Thank the throne that he had some wilderness knowledge.
He cracked his knuckles and got to work. Having clean water was his first priority, he set out to create a makeshift water purifier and started a fire to get the somewhat clean water boiling. While that was getting started, he went up the castle to find the boiler room. It is summer right now, so the weather outside should be fine, but who knows how long his exile will be for? If it carries on into the autumn and winter months, it could get chilly fast, especially this far north. As a prince, he wasn’t trained in plumbing or electrical work, but there should be a user manual somewhere around here. He spotted a dusty old book beneath some cobwebs in the corner of the room. Once cleaned, the cover read, dummies guide to basic plumbing.
The rest of the afternoon was spent following the guide and fixing as much of the castle’s plumbing as he could. Some of the machines were just too old, so he would have to spend some of his stipend on ordering new ones. That was a pity, he was hoping to save some of it in an account his father wouldn’t have any control over. Looks like that plan would have to wait.
He saved the clean water in a secure container and went up to the castle’s living room, if it could even be called that at this point. The furniture was old and dusty, and the carpet had mold growing on it. He would need to call a furniture restorer, but as he went to look them up, his phone showed that it had no signal. Daring wanted to bang his head against the wall, of course it wasn’t going to be that easy. As he scanned the room for anything that could help him he saw an old phonebook on an old coffee table. Flipping through the pages, he came across the number for a business that installed cable. By the end of the call, he was certain that he was being overcharged, but he had acquiesced as the day had been exhausting and he just wanted to go to sleep.
The next week or so went in much of the same way. Wake up, fix as much as he could by following what he now realized was a very outdated manual, and argue about the cost of fixing the many broken appliances and systems in his home for the near future.
By the time the weekend rolled around, and he was finally able to take a breath, he had come to two startling conclusions. The first was that most of the people at Dragon’s Head didn’t seem to like the Charming family. This was a drastic change from how people usually treated him when they found out that he’s a Charming. The fawning, the fake plastered on smiles the transactional relationships, along with the immense pressure to maintain all those connections. There was none of that here.
People seemed to eye him warily, the half troll plumber who came to fix his water issue seemed genuinely surprised that he not only attempted to fix his plumbing issue by himself before calling  anyone else, but also that the attempt was not half bad. There were other examples that were not as flattering. He remembered fixing a fence by a dirt road, and the couple walking by saw him out and about and turned around and left immediately. Their body language went from open and cheerful to closed off and fearful, as if he was going to order them to kneel before him out of the blue.
The other fact he noticed was that Dragon’s Head had a large beast population. Nearly everyone he met had some beast ancestry, from trolls to goblins, the odd giant, and even a dragonborn. A dragonborn. Everyone in his family believed that they went extinct a long time ago, and yet here they were, right in front of him.
If nothing else, it gave him the courage to explore his beast side. A side Daring had been suppressing for so long, he didn’t even know it existed for most of his life.
That Saturday night he looked out into the vast wild forest and felt something stir in him. He wanted to tear his princely skin to shreds and jump into the wild and never come back. With all the work he had to complete upon his arrival, he’d never really had the time to look around at the splendor of nature that sat right outside his house.
Icy gray mountain peaks topped with millennia old glaciers, dark green trees that towered over him, and crystal clear lakes untouched in eons lay before him. Before he realized what he was doing, he had already leapt out the windows of his chambers and landed in the soft knee length grass outside.
Unbeknownst to him, his body had already begun to change into a beast as long snow white hair sprouted from his skin and his nails turned to claws. His perfectly whitened teeth sharpened, glinting in the moonlit night.
As if possessed by a primal urge, he took off, running deep into the wilderness.
Daaring had never felt this alive in his life. This body of his never seemed to tire. In fact, if he thought about it, it had been this way since he was a child. While the other children tired themselves from a few hours of practice, he could continue for the whole day if need be. It hadn’t made him very popular with the other boys back then. They always scowled at him since they were constantly getting compared to Daring by their teachers, coaches, and even their own parents at times.
In hindsight, it was a very obvious example of the beast's blood in him. He supposed it was overlooked since he seemed to embody the ideal Prince Charming from fairytales. People envied his relentlessness until the root cause of it was revealed.
No point in dwelling on that nonsense now, no one here cared about him being a beast, no one here cared about Daring Charming.
Who was Daring Charming anyway? Was he that golden haired, bright smiled, flirtatious himbo everyone from Apple White, to his own mother thought of him as? Or was he emotionally fragile and narcissistic, which was how most of his detractors including Darling, his own sister, and formerly, Rosabella Beauty. As he looked at his reflection in a stream of glacial water, he wondered if he was the powerful, terrifying beast that everyone, including himself was disappointed in?
Was he disappointed in being a beast? Or was he just (rightfully) scared of the negative reaction from his family?
He stared at his reflection some more, watching it change from beast back to a prince. His clothes were in tatters, the roots of his hair reverting to its traditional silvery white, and his eyes retaining their slight violet hue.
Daring had seen his reflection many times. Hell, it was practically what he was known for back in Ever After High. However, this felt different. He usually checked for imperfections, a stray hair, food stuck in his teeth, or god forbid, a pimple. This time he was looking at himself, as just him.
The old Daring would have been mortified in fear of being caught looking like a beast. But there was no one around to see him, that pressure, for once in his life, wasn't present. Now he was free to complain about anything about his appearance that displeased him. Surprisingly, nothing came to mind.
The white hair and violet eyes suited his pale skin better than the blonde haired blue eyed princes of the past he had originally modeled himself after. Maybe he really was always meant to be a beast.
Drained from chaotic thoughts swarming his mind, he laid down on the cool grass. Looking up at the ink black sky with a splash of the brightest stars Daring had ever seen in his life, he felt at peace. Who cared what he was, here he could finally rest. Maybe being forgotten has its benefits after all. He closed his eyes and drifted off into a dreamless sleep.
