Sihaya & Company Winter Collection Review

Candles

These beautiful candles have been on my radar for a while. They’re so pretty and sparkly, and I’ve heard great things about their performance. I tend to not burn many candles because I have pets and a toddler, but Sihaya had a huge sale on Black Friday and I thought it was a great opportunity to give them a try.

Everwinter Woods: The scent of the mountains shrouded in ice. A forest of evergreen and spruce, chilling ozone top notes of whipping winds, and a hint of shivering eucalyptus.

This is a lovely winter forest scent! To my nose it’s the scent of a quiet, snow-covered forest of Douglas Firs. This reminds me a lot of BPAL’s Snow Bunny scent. I love this one so much!

Warm Woolen Mittens: Comfort in the coldest months. Warm wool, sprigs of lavender, and softly smoked vanilla.

This scent is uber cozy! The wool note is lovely--warm and clean and soft. The lavender is a lovely complement to the wool. It provides some herbal coolness and is sweetened by the fluffy vanilla. A happy and comforting blend.

Winter Rose: A single red rose, freshly plucked and placed upon a bed of bayberry and green boughs of holly, ivy, and balsam.

This is a beautiful and realistic deep red rose in an evergreen forest. The rose is the star of the scent, but the evergreens provide some atmosphere and depth. The greens smell jammy thanks to the bayberry and balsam. A gorgeous and non-traditional winter blend!

Yuletide: A classic home for the holidays scent. Pine boughs strung with orange clove pomanders and cranberries, and then merrily wound throughout the home!

This is a cozy scent for Yule! It’s the scent of decorating the tree with family while drinking warm cider. I also smell a bit of smoke, like there’s a cheerful fire in the hearth. This is very much a traditional blend, like a Victorian Christmas.   

Ecce Mundi Gaudium: Lo, The Joy Of The World. A reverent blend of frankincense, Egyptian amber, clove leaf, myrrh, and golden musk.

Oof--this is gorgeous. It’s golden and solemn. The frankincense is smooth--woody, warm, rich. The golden musk and amber elevate the frankincense into a super luxe blend. I would love this in a perfume. It’s elegant, classy, warm, and exotic.

Wax Melts

The Court In Splendour: Glad Tidings from the King! The scent of the Tudor court at Yuletide. A festive blend of bayberry and tart cranberry on a bed of warm balsam and spice.

I love this one! It’s so cheerful and festive! It reminds me a bit of Yuletide, but this one has no smoke, the fruits are tarter and fresher, and the greens are more jammy. I love bayberry, and this is a lovely iteration. The cranberry is tart and syrupy, like cranberry sauce, and the balsam makes for a lovely base of evergreen. A perfect holiday blend.

Lip Balm

Champagne & Cranberries 

This is a lovely lip balm. It glides on smoothly and doesn’t drag. It’s not tacky or sticky. It feels smooth and lovely on the lips, and my lips remained moisturized for hours. The scent is lively and happy! It reminds me of the Christmosas that I make on Christmas morning: sweet, sparkling grape juice, a bit of champagne, and tart cranberries bobbing in the glass.

Ingredients: Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Cetyl Stearyl Alcohol, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Beeswax, Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Lipids, Lauryl Laurate, Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax, Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax, Fragrance.

Moisturizing Lip Color!

I find that as I age I need more color on my lips, but most lipsticks tend to dry my lips out. I tend to prize comfort over beauty, so generally I just throw on a lip balm and go. I was pretty excited when Sihaya announced that she would be making these moisturizing lip colors, because they sounded like the perfect marriage of moisturizing comfort and pretty color! I picked up a few during the Black Friday sale and they’re perfect for my needs. The color is surprisingly long lasting for (basically) a tinted lip balm. I threw one on and it lasted for several hours, even though I ate and drank during that time period. Of course the color transferred a bit with wear, but not as much as I expected! Additionally, they didn’t dry my lips out! Hooray! These are lovely lip colors, and I hope that she’ll continue making them! They’re $6.50 each, and well worth it.

Merry & Bright: A cherry red with lots of golden sparkle. Cherry berry flavor. 

This is a pretty, classic, cool-toned red with fun and happy specks of gold! The gold is not overly sparkly. Love!

Snow Fairy: A wearable magenta with icy violet and blue sparkle. Vanilla custard flavor.

I live for bright fuchsia and magenta lip colors. They make me happy! This is a good one. It’s a bit cool and a bit bright, but not too bright! It is very wearable. There’s a hint of an icy violet shimmery sheen, but it’s not too wild.

Happy Dragon Age Day!

Hey everybody! In my nerdy little neck of the woods, it's Dragon Age Day, the day where Bioware gifts us with short stories, game updates, and other surprises. Every year for the last few, I've released a few products based on my favorite game series, and this year is no different. The new candles on offer this year are: 

In -180 Ancient, the Elves of Orlais rose up against slavery under a general named Shartan. Joining holy Andraste in war against Tevinter, they were given the Dales, a fertile, picturesque land-- at least until human treachery once again stole it back. Today, the Dales are home to lush greenery, abundant rivers, and many elven secrets. The Dales: Green leaves, river stone, star jasmine, nectarine, and meadow grass.

In the heart of Lowtown is a tavern. There you'll find whatever you're looking for, be it a stiff drink, a game of Wicked Grace, a good brawl, or maybe even the Champion themself.  The Hanged Man: Leather, tobacco, brown liquor, and spice.

Autumn is live at Sihaya & Company!

Our Autumn box, AUTUMNVALE WOODS, features a bevy of collaborators new and old. Alkemia is back with an ode to Autumn in perfume form. Cult favorite Over The Garden Wall was a source of inspiration to both Old Growth Alchemy and Paintbox Soapworks, whose offerings (a tea and scrub, respectively) draw on its unsettling loveliness. Virtuoso Confections is bringing back their Apple Cider Caramel bar that was much raved about the last time we featured it. Newcomers Justine Gilbuena and Splitmoon Studios are offering enamel pins and beautiful stationery brimming with mushrooms and forest friends. THE AUTUMN CANDLE COLLECTION Most of the scents on offer this year in the main candle collection are returning favorites chosen by the Sihaya & Company Fans Group. My periodic little self promo post to let you know that the Winter Box, the Winter Candle Collection, and the Tudor Candle Collection are now live at Sihaya & Company!

The box features perfume, a sugar scrub, a soap, a lip color, a tea, and a 9 piece pâte de fruit selection. It’s a great way to try out multiple indie companies. Get it as a gift for a loved one or for yourself.

Last Days for the Charity Candles!

Heya everybody! Sunday is the LAST DAY to pick up my Tam Lin charity candles, as well as my Spring candle line. I make the candles next week, and I am unsure how many (if any!) will be left over to list afterwards.

JANET: The scent of a woman who knows her own mind, and whose courage saved the life of her one true love. Two freshly-plucked roses and worn brown saddle leather.

TAM LIN: The scent of an earthly knight, ensnared by the fae and doomed to a grisly fate. Tart juniper berry, green apple, woodland vines, and cassia spice.

THE FAERY QUEEN: Beauty and power that makes your blood run cold. Night-blooming flowers, a moonlit path, and a dribble of something sinister.

Hey all! Dropping a note to say that the pre-orders for the first wave of glittery Spring candles are live on the Sihaya & Company site! The first collection is an expansion of the Spring collection from last year. Three returning scents and two new ones!

It is a charity collection, and the entire profit ($5 per candle) will be donated to Planned Parenthood in memory of my dear friend Abigail of Tam-Lin.org, who passed away this past November. The stunning artwork was done by Joanna Barnum.
