Text
Spell: "fuck ya table"
Components: a table, vocal exclamation, and movement of the arms, 1 silver (which is consumed upon use as you pay for the table)
Duration: until table is righted by caster
Casting time: Reaction
Range: touch
Spell level: beginner, great at parties, does not stack (but can be recast)
Description:
When the user feels the need to either draw a large amount of attention to a subject at hand or just feels like it, the caster must make a movement (in a shove or a toss motion is perfered) to move a table, with magical means. This will result in the table doing a number of things, but mostly, never being righted until the caster ends the spell. No amount of fixing by others will result in fixing it fully.
"The Ruby was not a ruby at a-" the Rouge cried out, but was hastily interrupted by a slightly burnt wizard yelling "Fuck ya Table" and turning the table onto its corner.

Painting The Tusked Marauders of Gauntwood
So my pile of shame is ever growing, for those outside the hobby, a pile of shame is usually a stack of built or un-built miniatures that sit there, as grey as the day they were manufactured, waiting for their turn to get painted... More often than not, people's pile of shames only ever grow...
I got back into the hobby last year by getting HeroQuest (the original), followed by a 3D Printer, followed by having the 12 year old boy inside me being crushed by the bitter disappointment that no-one in our local Games Workshop or "Friendly Local Gaming Stores" are at all interested...
So I've been doing some printing and doing some painting.
So here's the start of The Tusked Marauders of Gauntwood from Daybreak Miniatures.
So I am still a beginner, I want to be as good as the likes of Sergio Calvo or be able to paint to the unrealistic standard you see on the box art on any Warhammer figure. It maybe an impossible goal, but it is a goal, the only way I can get there is practice. I don't like the idea of sharing my painted miniatures online, but I know we all got to start some where.
So with so much grey on my glass shelves, I've started with The Tusked Marauders of Gauntwood.
I generally start by doing the bases to everything in that faction, this then standardizes what they all look like. I like doing bases, it's either Green grass on Rocks, or Rocks with other Rocks. Bit of a base coat, followed by a wash or two, followed by a base coat & layer, and a clean black rim to make them tidy.
After the bases, I worked on Dongli Smite on Head Runner, (*coughs* Squig), working on the Head-Runner first, then on Dongli Smite. I sort of made my first mistake, I was trying out different reds on the Head-Runner, got it to how I liked it, then by the time I came to do the second model, Krimli Smite on Head Runner, I'd forgotten which paints I'd used. (I guess it makes the models unique, but I would prefer them to look the same).
Problem with these the goblins are tiny, so it's hard to get every detail (or in my case, any detail). It's not a fault, and in hindsight I should of printed them bigger, (although the Head Hunters would of been too big?) just my current painting level isn't quite there yet to get all the details. Luckily, base coat green on the skin, silver on the armour, wash the skin with a green, was the armour with Nuln Oil, and it makes it look a lot better than my skill is actually at. (it also took me a while to notice they are wearing little leather helmets).
Tumblr media
Then onto the Spiders, I was really looking forward to trying out a few new things here.
Learning from my mistake of not painting simular miniatures together in stages, I painted both spiders together. Painted them black, then dry-brushed them up to a dark blue.
Tumblr media
Using a bone colour for it's claws, shaded, re-added base colour of the top, followed by a lighter bone colour, then a very faint brighter cream to highlight the tops.
My favorite part of the spiders were the markings on their torso - painted this area as white as white would go then using Vallejo Blood Red with some Red Ink did a few layers with this to make the red stand out. Then I had the bright idea of doing a thin black line around the outside to try and make the markings stand out even more, this was OK, but not the effect I wanted, then almost ruined the lot by putting a pink line on the edge of the markings... lesson learn't quit whilst you are ahead.
Tumblr media
Painted the tiny goblins in the same way. Base coat, wash, drop mini, snap leg, search for leg under the desk, glue leg, get angry as glued leg to hand, repaint broken parts, highlight with original base coat, then highlight again with a lighter green.
I used the Butchers Knife on Havor Split on Black Weaver to practice my wet-blending.
Then to get them on the bases with out gluing myself to the wall.
Out comes the fake-Dremel I got for Christmas that I get moaned I don't use. Drill a long thin hole in the bottom..
Tumblr media
Feed a cut up paper-clip in one end and glue, then drill a hole in the base, feed the paper clip in and glue. Sits in there nice and securly.
I also need to spend some more time working out how to take better videos and pictures of the miniatures. Open to any suggestions any one might have.
So there we have it. First and the largest of The Tusked Marauders of Gauntwood done.
Now to move on to the rest of those pointy little goblins.

8 Absolutely Unique Tarot Deck designs
For when you can't decide on which to get
Ah yes, it's always exciting to buy a new deck. The Rider-Waite deck has been the classic bread and butter of beginners, a friend of mine even said you can never go wrong with buying one. However I wanted to find a specific design; It'll be my first deck so I wanted it to be special. In my quest to find the most unique ones that really resonated with me, I found eight that stood out the most that I will put in four categories: Simplistic, Stylistic, Macabre and Magical.
Tumblr media
SIMPLISTIC
As the old adage goes: Less is More. As much as I am a sucker for all the flair and themes of other decks, these designs in particular I adore because they're able to boil down the cards to minimalistic, easily understandable symbols
Golden Thread Tarot
Tumblr media
Designed by: Tina Gong
This one resembles the original Rider-Waite deck the most among all the entries on this list. I'm a big fan of the more cartoonish art style they adopted. Where The Golden Thread Tarot lacks in color it makes up with this elegant gold foil bordering and illustrating the cards. Moreover, it's created using recycled plastic!
2. Synesthesia Tarot
Tumblr media
Designed by: Jana Walker
This deck design takes things even further and sticks to an even simpler iconography. I love how the design is stripped down to the absolute basic symbols of the cards but with a splash of color to make it even more unique!  With silver foil accents and a matte black finish, what's not to love about the Synesthesia deck?
STYLISTIC
Departing from the minimalist designs, we arrive at the more unique and elaborate interpretations of the Rider-Waite tarot deck. These two designs in particular still resemble the original design quite a bit, but their designs usage of color and lines are what really make them stand out for me.
Sambucus Tarot
Tumblr media
Designed by: WohStudio
The designers drew inspiration from the Sambucus plant, which they believed to have magical properties being considered to be one of the oldest magical plants. What drew me to the Sambucus deck in particular are its unique usage of curved lines and the plantlike motif that is prevalent all across the whole deck design. Each individual card deck is covered in a holographic foil which makes the whole deck look really nice when all the cards are stacked together!
2. Mystic Monday Tarot
Tumblr media
Designed by: Grace Duong
In contrast to the previous deck, this design leans more on the flat art style. While I usually don't like similar art styles, the colors on this deck are what really stood out to me. Each illustration in the Mystic Monday deck feels like a punch packed with vibrant color! The gradient coloring style looks so clean and I just love how clear and angular the illustrations are!
MACABRE
Skulls! Eyes! Flowers! Knives! The designs of this category really lean into the spooky themes of tarot and are sure to draw the attention of curious onlookers. Aside from being impeccably designed, they're certainly going to be one hell of a conversation starter!
Antique Anatomy Tarot
Tumblr media
Designed by: Claire Goodchild
This is the very first deck I bought. Each card design in the Antique Anatomy draws inspiration from anatomical and botanical illustrations during the Victorian Era. I personally love antique illustrations especially from that historical era so I was naturally a big fan of this design. Another neat detail I like about this design are the flowers. In The Sun card there are Marigolds, a flower associated with positive emotions and well, the sun itself. I think that matching the flower language with the cards' meaning adds another layer to the Victorian apothecary vibe of this whole deck!
2. Prisma Visions Tarot
Tumblr media
Designed by: James R. Eads
This specific design stands out for me in a number of ways. First off, the Impressionist art style of this design is just beautiful. The way each illustration is drawn gives it an almost antique storybook feel. Prisma visions giving the Major Arcana an ornate border to make them distinct from the Minor arcana is a nice touch. However I most especially love how each Minor Arcana card can be put side by side and each card's illustrations form a single panoramic illustration, mirroring how the meaning of each Minor Arcana suit also tells a broader story!
MYSTICAL
If the previous two were all about the spooky, these last two are all about the spiritual! Tarot is naturally very mystical in nature and there are plenty of designs that are sure to fall under this category. Despite that, the themes of these specific decks are just so much more magical that they never fail to stand out for me!
Tarot of the Divine
Tumblr media
Designed by: Yoshi Yoshitani
When I found out there was a deck that combines folklore and mythology with tarot, I had to learn more about it! The Tarot of the Divine features various folklore illustrations that match up with tarot imagery. The folkloric origins are so wonderfully diverse! Not only does it have well-known ones like the Chinese and Japanese tales of East Asia to the Greek and English stories of Europe, there are also the more obscure ones, like the ones from the Maori Tribe of New Zealand! The colorful art style is another cherry on top and combined with the stories, this deck almost feels like a children's storybook!
2. Oriens Animal Tarot
Tumblr media
Designed by: Ambi Sun
For the animal lovers! I like how the tarot symbolism is still very prevalent throughout the whole design, only with animals as the main subjects rather than people. From fluffy red pandas to feathery cockatiels there are certainly a large variety of critters! Though Oriens may be mostly animal-themed, its design is so much more than just that. The starry motif and the usage of color in this deck gives off an ethereal vibe. Combined with the nature motif, these cards' illustrations make it feel more like representations of spiritual beings than animals!
Overview
With so many designs, it can be really hard to pick a favorite one to get. Personally, I wish I had enough money to buy all of these! Hopefully this carefully curated list of diverse deck designs can help you pick! If none of these still manage to catch your interest, make sure to keep visiting our website as we'll be making more of these concise lists to help even the most indecisive people find their very own tarot deck!

Practical Magic Tech: Spellcasting Altars Are a Powerful Tool For Sticky Situations
This post is part of a series of animistic, spirit-oriented spellcasting for beginners. Go to the masterpost to see them all.
In this other post, I was talking about two ways to think about spellwork: continuous magic, or one-shot magic. But our goal in this series is not to learn how to just cast single spells like a cook reading out of a recipe book. Our goal is to learn how to be a chef that can manage a kitchen and its staff.
So, real talk: Very often, aspects of our lives are not going to be solved with one spell.
Yes, it's really good to be able to cast a spell and have it manifest. But, more real talk: Getting spells to do something is actually pretty easy.
The real problem with practical spellwork doesn't lie in getting together some magic and causing stuff to happen. The real problem is situations resolving in the way you want, especially complex situations that are resistant to change or that require a lot of change.
In this other post, I talked about the virtue of a general spellcasting altar; one that you use to handle most any spell you need to sling.
In this post, let's talk about specific spellcasting altars, built to address one area of your life, or one important situation, that requires close monitoring and regular, active spellwork.
An Altar With a Goal
When I build a general spellcasting altar, I align it towards my method of spellcasting in general. I might invite a god or goddess of witchcraft to oversee the altar. I will probably store my tools and components near there that I use for spellcasting. It might be my good-vibes spiritual center that reflects my current path and progress.
In contrast, I build goal-oriented altars to very specifically reflect their purpose:
An altar to assist me in divinatory power might be dressed in indigo, silver, and violet; have figurines of mermaids or ravens, be decorated with mirrors, stuffed with amethyst, and drizzled with wormwood.
An altar to aid my finances and prosperity might be covered in green and gold, have stacks of fake money and dragon figurines, jars of coins, nuggets of jade, lodestone weighing down paper money, and just loads of chamomile and basil as far as the eye can see.
An altar to assist with bringing peace to my home might be decorated in soothing pale blue and white, filled with plates of cream and honey, decorated with a figurine of Hestia or Eirene, and sprinkled with aquamarine and blue chalcedony.
Most importantly for me, any such altar has space to hold one-shot and continuous spells as they work unto my needs. This may be in the form of a digital altar where spell cards are stored, or in a physical surface or container where components are held.
Goal-Oriented Altars Can be Like Hyperspells with Many Intents
I support limited, focused intent for individual spells. This means that any single situation may require a variety of spells to be cast upon it to achieve my goals.
Suppose I want to bring peace to my household. Depending on what's going on, I might need to cast a few different spells:
Reducing arguments
Increasing loving communication
Reducing feelings of anger
Increasing feelings of wellbeing
Keeping an instigator away from the home
Drawing enjoyable, healthy experiences into the home
If I build and consecrate an altar unto the purpose of peace in my home, that altar becomes like a hyperspell slowly storing and building up all these intents, until my purpose is finally achieved.
Certainly, one single spell might do - but we don't need to build altars for situations easily resolved with one spell. If your situation is being resistant to spellwork, or it's something you know will need ongoing maintenance, consider an altar instead of a series of independent spells.
Using Goal-Oriented Altars
Remember at the beginning of the post, when I was saying the real challenge to practical spellwork is resolving complex situations to your satisfaction?
Your situational altar is the command center for addressing a sticky, tough-to-manage situation.
Perform divination about this situation nearby
Store one-shot and continuous spells effecting that situation on this altar
Keep a detailed record of what you've tried so far
Use this altar as a platform for hosting complementary, simultaneously cast spells
Light candles or incense on the altar, or feed it with direct energy work, to charge all spells stored within it
As you continuously store spells and magics related to your situation in this one altar space, it will accumulate and gain power. That power will become more nuanced and more finely honed to your purposes with each spell you store in it.
With enough active focus and work, this altar will become a source of power in and of itself. Each successive spell will coast on the crest of the one before it, and amazing progress can be made in ways not as easily seen with spells individually and stored outside of an altar's nexus.
The types of spells you cast should be specially chosen based on how you need the energy to move in the situation.
A major benefit of a goal-oriented altar is that it lets you see your current, ongoing efforts - and past, completed efforts - all in one place. You can walk by your prosperity altar and see that your debt-banishing candle is nearly burned away, you have a whole pile of incense ashes for your cash-drawing petitions, and that you've already given the spirits an offering today. In a real way, it carves out space in your life to give important issues the attention you want to give them.
This also gives you a chance to consider the types of spells you're using and whether you need more or less variety, or more or less effort applied to a specific end.
Maybe the problem with your situation is a specific blockage that won't be overcome by more conjuration type spells; maybe you need a banishment-type spell to bust open the way forward.
The post that details that isn't in the queue yet, so if you don't see something like "spell categories #2" in the masterpost, remind me to write it. There's a ton of information to get down and sometimes stuff gets lost in the stampede.
Setting Up A Goal-Oriented Altar
Set up a goal-oriented altar with any methods used to consecrate a spellcasting altar (methods will be in the masterpost... if you're far enough into the future).
Keep a goal-oriented altar as long as you need it. For some people, altars for prosperity or protection might be kept indefinitely, as these issues are often ongoing for most.
Other altars might be extremely specific, like "help me get into a new housing situation with room mates I gel with," and will be relatively short term.
Take down the altar when you're done with it. It's not like you have to, keep that bad boy for as long as you want. But you don't need to keep the altar up once your purpose has been served.
This post is part of a series of animistic, spirit-oriented spellcasting for beginners. Go to the masterpost to see them all.

Ingo + Detective!Reader - Escapism
You’ve had to research a range of complex and bizarre topics for your job. Usually it’s nothing more than research, but on very rare occasions there’s something that piques your interest.
By the time Ingo had finished his rounds and was ready to return to the office, the rest of the staff had already left the station. They all said their goodbyes along with the friendly reminder for Ingo not to push himself too hard, a well-meaning sentiment that would go ignored, before leaving. As he approaches the door, he notices two things; a pale light spilling out from the gap underneath, and a barely perceptible clicking, most likely someone typing on a keyboard. Ingo smiles as he opens the door, only to have it disappear once he takes in the sight before him.
The image of you working in the office has become familiar to Ingo; this wasn’t the first time he’d seen you set up shop on the sofa, and there was no doubt that it wouldn’t be the last. What does catch him off guard, however, is the papers and photographs sprawled out across the table, as if arranged with the sole purpose of covering every square inch. A small stack of books rests against your hip as you sit hunched over and typing away furiously on your keyboard. You look less like a hard-boiled detective and more like an overworked office employee, though you would probably argue that the two weren’t mutually exclusive.
The door closes behind Ingo with a click that makes you look up and lock eyes with him before flicking down to the mess of papers.
“Good evening,” he says, heading for his desk, “Looks like you’ve got your hands full. Hard case?”
“Hardly,” you scoff, and that alone makes him stop in his tracks. You dig through the papers before offering one to Ingo. He’s worked with you long enough to recognize it as a police report.
“Officers found a woman handcuffed in her closet; dehydrated and delirious, but alive.” you start sorting through the papers as you explain, “The doctor speculates that she was stuck in there for one-to-two days. Only problem is all the doors and windows were locked, and no one saw anyone coming in or out of her apartment at the time.”
“Quite the puzzle.” He takes a seat beside you. “But judging by the tone of your voice, it sounds like you’ve already solved it. Well, don’t keep me in suspense!”
You smile and continue cleaning up. He catches a glimpse at a photograph of silver handcuffs before it gets buried under more papers.
“I did a little digging into the victim. Apparently she’s something of an aspiring escape artist. It’s entirely possible she was simply practicing, couldn’t free herself, and couldn’t get help.”
He waits for more of the explanation, but all you give him is a resigned smile.
“That’s your deduction? I don’t mean to be rude but that’s quite an… abrupt end to the mystique.”
“I know, right?!” you laugh and power down the laptop, “When I first got this case, I really thought this was gonna be a breakthrough moment for me. But Occam’s razor suggests this is the ideal theory. Once the victim’s lucid enough to communicate, I’ll get a statement from her.”
Snooping through an active investigation probably isn’t the wisest decision, but Ingo still finds himself glancing down at the table. A list of hand written notes about lock picking obscures an online article about escapology. Besides that lies a book with some kind of diagram with a card. Sleight of hand?
“You said she was an aspiring artist, as in beginner, yes?”
“I may have gotten a little carried away with my research. I can always save this stuff if it ever becomes relevant for another case.”
A splash of bright red catches Ingo’s eye and he picks up the slip of paper. It’s a flyer of some kind. Escape Room?
“The victim had gone to a few. Have you ever tried one?”
“I’ve heard of phrase, but unfortunately I’m not very familiar with the concept.”
Ingo barely gets the words out before your smile grows.
“It’s a room full of puzzles and secrets, and you get locked inside and have to escape within a time limit.” the sofa shifts underneath Ingo as you move a little closer, “Usually it’s one hour, but there are some places where you’re given even less time. Some of them are nearly impossible to solve or require teamwork with other players, and the difficulty level can determine how many hints you can ask for. There’s a bunch of them around town, and each room has a different theme and win condition.”
You look back at Ingo as you finish speaking, and you laugh.
“What?”
“You have quite the extensive knowledge on the subject. Would it be safe to assume you’ve been to these rooms before?”
“I used to go with the other officers when we were still training - the price per person is cheaper the more people sign up. It actually makes for a good team-building exercise.”
“Perhaps we should try one soon.”
With a sigh that seemed to contain all the joy you had only seconds ago, you begin putting away your belongings. “I’ll have to find a place that’ll let me keep my work phone on me. And I probably won’t get a refund if I have to forfeit, even for an emergency.”
“The city won’t fall apart just because you want to take the evening off.”
“Maybe not, but it’s my job.” You give Ingo a smile that doesn’t quite reach your eyes as you snatch up the papers and stow them away. You stand up to leave, he mirrors your movements.
“Believe me, I know what it means to care about your work; to take pride in what you dedicate your life to! But I’ve rarely seen that spark in your eyes shine so bright before.”
He offers the flyer to you.
“You’ve found a new driving force; I say full speed ahead!”
You shake your head, taking the paper from him.
“…I’ll have to book a month in advance. Let me know what your schedule looks like, and I’ll look around.”
“Excellent!”
“And just how late do you plan on working tonight?”
Ingo’s joy is short-lived when he notices you smirking at him.

Introductory post, the purpose of this blog, and backstory
Hello, I’m Ravyn (like raven). I’m 28. Currently, I’m pursuing a career in full-stack web development. I have zero prior experience with back-end languages and no college education. I have yet to decide if I want a degree in Computer Information Systems/ Computer Science, or continue learning on my own via online resources & taking individual classes at a local community college.
I decided to blog about my journey into tech to track my progress and hopefully inspire and educate others along the way. There is an over-abundance of misleading resources claiming that their classes, tutorials, bootcamps, and books are all for “beginners”, which are all coming from already-established people in tech that have fell out of touch with being able to effectively communicate coding jargon to those that have never seen print(”Hello World!”) in their life.
This blog will document what I learn as a completely new and inexperienced student in tech, how I’m learning and retaining the material, my processes, my failed attempts, and my little victories.
Now, some backstory:
I was forced to drop out of college in 2013 due to struggles with housing. My dream at the time was to do my first 2 years at community college, and then pursue graphic design at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. Without getting into too much detail about my personal life, pursuing higher education at the time was no longer an option due to working full-time as a waitress and trying to survive. Nearly a decade later, I realized sadly that nothing had changed about my life. I moved around a lot, and I was still struggling with money and living hand-to-mouth. I decided that I was fed up, and since I spent a lot of time in front of my laptop anyway (and enjoyed it), web development seemed like the best career option to commit to.
My story is unfortunately common amongst millions of other people that could also not pursue a college education due to circumstances that were (and still may be) out of their control. Silver spoons in life are rare. The rest of us just work with what we got.
I dedicate this blog to people trying to overcome their hardships, leave dead-end jobs, those with underprivileged backgrounds, and volatile upbringings. This blog is for those like me, with no college education and zero experience in tech.

31. kitchen counter make-outs for whoever you want!
First time for everything (AO3 Link) Prompt: kitchen counter make-outs Fandom/Pairing: Fallen Hero/Argentstep Word count: 1030 Warnings:  Saccharine. (no Retri spoilers lol)
"What's a tibsp?"
"A what?"
You wave the recipe card at Argent from your perch on her corner counter. She pauses her quest for ingredients and snatches it out of your hand. Silver eyes narrow as she goes line by line.
"The vanilla," you clarify. "It says one tibsp."
"... Tablespoon. That says tablespoon, Riley."
"Oh." You fish a spoon out of the drawer under your legs. "Got one."
"No, that's a teaspoon." A lilt of laughter in her voice.
"But we used these at the table?"
"Just a second." She roots around in the cabinet and hands you a stack of interlocked spoons. Engraved on each one is a name and fraction of teaspoon or tablespoon.
"Oh."
She giggles and hands you a stack of measuring cups as well. "Ricardo did say you weren't great in the kitchen. Did he not bother teaching you anything?"
"I mean he tried once or twice back in the day but… Neither of us had the patience for it."
"I'm stunned," she deadpans as she gathers up the eggs and butter left out to warm to room temperature.
You pick through the cups, checking out all the fractions. Thirds seems weirdly specific. "I've never seen him use stuff like this? Or recipes. He just throws things in the pan. Somehow it tastes good. I don't know how he does it."
She smirks and plucks them from your hands, sets them by the pastel blue mixer. "And that's why he's a great chef, but a terrible baker."
"I don't follow?"
"Baking is chemistry. Fairly exact and replicable with ratios that should be followed, especially for beginners." She pulls chocolate chips and nuts out of the freezer. "Anyone can be a decent baker if they just follow the instructions on a recipe."
Now you're the one giggling. "And Ric is an idiot who stubbornly marches to the beat of his own drum."
"Exactly." She pulls you down from the counter by your hand and takes your seat. "So, let's see how you do."
You give her an incredulous look. "Wait, seriously?"
"Best way to learn." She gives you a sharky grin. "Don't worry, I'll keep you from ruining our cookies."
You look over the recipe card again. Double check the ingredients against what she put together for you. Looks like everything is there. Back to the card. Read the instructions through.
"Question."
"Yeah?"
You turn the oven on and give her a sideways smirk worthy of the man who taught you nothing but knife skills in the kitchen. "What does it mean to 'cream' butter and sugar?"
A long-suffering sigh. "This is going to take all day."
It doesn't. Maybe an hour. Maybe you and the kitchen are coated in more than a fine dusting of flour by the end of it. Maybe you confused tablespoon and teaspoon. Maybe Argent had to correct your course more than once, but the fond nature of her supervision doesn't remind of past scrutinies and failures. She has a lot more patience than you would have thought possible.
Somehow you end up with a big bowl of something you think looks reasonably like chocolate chip cookie dough. At her request, you bring a spoonful over to her perch. No sense in wasting the time baking if it's no good.
She takes the spoon in her mouth, and it comes out as clean as if it had come from the drawer. "Not bad. Very good, actually."
"Really?" Heat rises in your face, pleasure instead of the usual embarrassment.
"Mhmm." She licks her lips. "Did you try it?"
"Not yet."
A wicked grin and she pulls you in by your hoodie strings. She's taller than you for once, perched on the counter. Hands in your hair tilt your head back and she mumbles against your lips, "We'll have to fix that."
You find your balance again with your hands on her hips as she closes the gap, slick smooth tongue slipping in to tangle with yours. She tastes of dark chocolate and sugar and vanilla all rolled together, sweet and tantalizing. You made that happen. Success in the kitchen is as heady as the kiss and you melt against her.
She breaks it before you're ready, gives you a playful little shove back to the bowl.
"As tempting as it would be to just eat the dough straight, let's see if you can bake them without setting my kitchen on fire."
You groan and spoon the thick batter onto a tray. "Of course he told you about that."
"Of course he did." You don't need to turn around to know there's an amused smirk across her lips.
Unlike that time however, you have explicit instructions, a timer, and an overseer heavily invested in your finished product. Not that you aren't as well, you've never had cookies fresh from the oven. The smell alone has your mouth watering in anticipation. Kisses and small talk pass the time until the buzzer goes off.
One tray out, perfectly imperfect golden baked discs. Another tray in. The cookies taunt you for five agonizing minutes at Argent's insistence before she allows you to move them to the cooling rack.
You take two, hand one to her as she approaches to examine your work. She gestures for you to go first and you sink your teeth into it.
"Oh fuck," you moan with your mouth full. Crunchy exterior, chewy center, hints of salt and cinnamon mixed with warm gooey chocolate, a little bit of texture from the nuts. The difference between these and the now-mediocre packaged cookies you've had until now is staggering. "That's so good. I'm never buying cookies again."
"Mhmm, we'll make a baker out of you yet."
"You wouldn't happen to have a chocolate cake recipe…?" you ask around another mouthful of cookie.
"Maybe." Her smirk says yes as she backs you up to the island. "Maybe next time."
You take the hint, slide up onto it. She follows, climbing up to straddle your lap. Her lips lock with yours as you lay back across the counter.
Neither of you mind that the next tray is a little too crispy. Plenty more still to go.

How to write an immersive scene
requested by @noa-i - check out their blog, they have amazing lists of helpful links to writing guides!
As a writer, it is mostly inevitable to get to the point in writing where you are questioning whether anyone will actually want to read what they have created. A question greatly important to writing something the reader gets hooked up with is: How do I lure them in and make them feel like they are part of something? Sometimes, writing immersive makes THE difference between a scene quick to skip over and a scene you can't take your eyes off. But how do you create immersion?
In this post: 1. Worldbuilding 2. Narrators 3. Writing visually 4. Setting the scene 5. Example to summarize
Step 1: Learn your own facts
It might be banal, since you are the author, to re-read your own notes and think about what you have written so far. However, to get the reader hooked up, make them INTERESTED. This is easily accomplished by creating a detailed fictional world that doesn't seem flat. It might be a tiring process, but it always pays off! Knowing exactly what kind of world your character finds themself in makes it a lot easier to fill in details that subconsciously make the reader believe they are dealing with an actual real-world instead of "just" a fictional one. But even though it may seem harsh, cutting out some details and facts might make the reader feel much more comfortable. Their mind wants to insert them into the universe they're reading about, so overloading them with too many unnecessary details can be just as defeating as giving them too little info. Here is a link to a great beginners-guide on worldbuilding.
Step 2: Know your narrator
As we all know, there are a bunch of different narrator types to pick from when starting a new story, and each of them is good for a different thing- reaching from the typical first-person narrator (The Hunger Games, Percy Jackson) over personal third-person (Warrior Cats, Harry Potter) to omniscient third-person (Anne of Green Gables) and biased third-person (A Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy). If you are writing an unbiased third-person narrator in your WIP, you can just skip this step. However, if you have any indication at all in your story as to who the narrator is, you might want to think about this more closely. The narrator is the bridge that connects the reader to the fictional world. To immerse the reader in a book, it's usually easiest to use the first-person narrator or the personal third-person narrator, because that way the reader will either imagine themself as the narrator or as a friend of the main character, which keeps them interested. If your narrator is an actual character in the story, it is necessary to keep their speech and description patterns consistent with themselves and the events of the story. For example, a character narrating that has never visited a school or similar should not use highly scientific words to describe what's going on, etc, because it will interrupt the reader's reading flow and disturb the immersion just as much as time skips do.
Step 3: Writing visually
After making sure you have the narrator and the world they're in all set, it's time to choose a writing style, more specifically, to decide the visuality of it. What I mean by that is that having a fictional world so flat it's boring is just as bad as not describing it in a way that delivers it in the way it deserves to be delivered. Picture it like this: Every scene starts in a white room, with neither windows nor doors. If you as the writer don't describe what is going on in that room and what it looks like, at best while keeping the narrator's character in mind while doing so (to make it "3D"), the reader will never know what is actually happening. This also includes adapting the length and complexity of sentences to the scene: In a combat scene, you will usually find short and cut-throat sentences to represent the intensity and living-in-the-moment mindset of a fight, however, in a meaningful conversation between two characters about a heavy subject, it's more likely that longer and more complex sentences are of use to mirror the narrator's deep thinking of the subject and their concentration on the conversation.
Step 4: Setting the scene
By setting the scene, you fill in this white room in the reader's mind, adding characters, sounds, furniture, windows, and scenery in general, while still leaving space for the reader to fill in the blanks. To find a middle between these two extremes is up to every individual writer and depends on the writing style. If you over-describe the room, the reader will know every detail about it, but it will take away their focus from what is actually happening in the scene. However, if you don't set the scene at all, the reader automatically makes up what the room might look like based on what they imagine, and then breaks out of the immersion as soon as you mention something, later on, to be in the room that they did not picture. For example, if you just say that A enters B's bedroom, the reader might quite as well imagine there to be small windows, some bookshelves, a standard bed, etc. If you don't set that up right in the beginning and later on mention that B has small windows, the books stacked on the floor, a bunch of plants, an aquarium, and a bunk bed, the reader will get confused because it doesn't fit what they had pictured before. So ask yourself: What is so important that the reader should know it before the scene actually starts? Context also matters in that case.
5. Example
In the following, I will write the same scene multiple times in different styles to illustrate what makes a difference in writing immersion. The scene goes as following: Jae falls into a dark room underground with a hooded, mysterious person waiting for him. The hooded person greets him and lights a candle, and in the emitting light, Jae realizes who he is talking to. Remember: These are more caricatures of the different writing styles than actual representation and are very overexaggerated, but you get the idea.
1. first-person narrator (Jae), scene not set properly, no visual writing, no consistency in speech pattern
After three seconds, I landed on something soft and realized I had landed in a chamber underground, slightly lit by the moonlight above me. I walked through the only doorway and found myself in a second room. A hooded figure in the middle of the dark lifted their arm. From the table beside them, they picked up a candle and lit it using a lighter. "Hello, Jae", they said, and in the newly emitting light, I recognized them in front of the fireplace.
-> feels flat and jumpy, gives no significance to the change of scenery
2. biased third-person narrator, scene set properly, overly descriptive visual writing, consistency in speech pattern
After falling for what felt like an hour, even though it was probably just a few seconds, Jae finally landed on something soft. Before even attempting to get up, he shivered at the fresh memory of what slimy, earthy, suddenly appearing tunnels felt like. He stared up through the hole at the moon and the stars, and immediately recognized the constellation of Cassiopeia, high up above him. Cassiopeia is said to have angered the Gods, so they gave her the gift of divination, but made it so that nobody would ever believe her prophecies, finally banning her into the sky as this constellation. Weirdly enough, the stars' pattern doesn't look like a woman, or a human, at all. Jae slowly stood up from where he landed and realized he had fallen onto a rather big cushion with a print of primroses in yellow, pink, red, and blue. He looked around in my new location and found himself stuck in a small portico with no windows at all and only one doorway. The walls seemed just as dirty and muddy as the tunnel he had fallen through, and as he looked closer, he spotted about a dozen small, pink worms slithering through the soil. The floor on the other hand was made out of dark wooden panels- if you wanted to call it a "floor". The pieces were just loosely stuck onto the earth underneath, and mud squeezed out from the gaps in between. Jae slowly walked over them and reached the doorway after just four steps. He saw a hooded figure standing in the center of the next room. The room had two sources of lighting: One, the moonlight shining through the disgusting tunnel, and two, a crackling fireplace. It looked like it belonged in a small cottage, being made out of red bricks and looking a little old with the small black-and-white pictures put on top of it. The flickering orange glim of the fire met the silvery-white shine of the moon in the middle of the room. On the right side, Jae saw a big old round table made out of similar wood as the floorboards outside. There were obvious scratches on it, some made by smaller knives, others bigger and maybe made by swords, with splinters on their edges. Apart from two, the fours chairs around it seemed just as maltreated, but the two others were polished and reflected the two light sources, with no scratch marks at all. On top of the table rested a metal candlestick with one slightly burned-down candle stuck inside it. The candlestick had a few scratches as well, on the side and at the bottom. "Hello, Jae", the figure said snarkily, with a voice deep and rough like sandpaper. They wore a black cape, smooth on what Jae could see of the inside and rough on the outside, with a big hood covering their hair and most of their face. A few of the blue buttons with a golden pentagram engraved on them were missing from the coat, and it was slightly ripped in a few places. One strand of dark hair fell into the person's eyes as they reached out for the candlestick, lighting the candle inside with a silver zippo-lighter. The lighter had small scratches as well as a few symbols on it. Slowly, the flame grew bigger and bigger, until the shine from below reached the figure's face. Jae's eyes went big as he realized who he was talking to.
-> little place for the reader's fantasy, but details make scenery deeper and less flat. This kind of description does make sense if the narrator/the character the narrator fixates on (Jae in this case) is very observant and/or intelligent because they will notice details that others don't. The question is whether those details are important enough to keep in the story.
3. first-person narrator (Jae), scene set properly, visual writing, consistent speech pattern
After what felt like an eternity of falling and silently begging not to die from the impact, I finally landed with my eyes squeezed shut. Okay, legs, arms, and head still in place... I slowly opened my eyes again, realizing I had landed on a soft pillow with a flower print. Cautiously, I got up, gazing up at the tunnel through which I had fallen. The view of the slimy earth made me shiver involuntarily as I blinked against the bright moonlight far above me. The sky was clear enough to see stars, which could have been far more enjoyable if it hadn't been for my miserable situation. I had landed in a small chamber underground, with a single doorway leading into a bigger room. The walls were just pure earth and seemed to swallow all noise, but when I took the first step, the sounds of my shoes on the dark wooden floorboards and of the mud squishing out from beneath them was louder than I had anticipated. I could hear the crackling of fire from the next room and see the orange glow as I made my way over to the doorway and took a glimpse into it. The room was not very big, but also not as small as the one I had landed in. There wasn't much space because of a wooden round table and four chairs, which all seemed very old and maltreated, judging from the scratches on them. I could make out a few pictures on the fireplace, and in front of that- "Hello, Jae." I had to suppress a gasp as I realized that I was not alone. In the middle of the room, right where the silvery moonlight and the orange glow of the fire met, stood a hooded figure. Their coat looked as old as the few pieces of furniture, with missing buttons and rips. I couldn't make out much of their face, even though I squinted my eyes, but the flickering light made it hard to see anything, let alone recognize. But that voice... Before I could come to a conclusion, the figure reached for a metal candlestick standing on the table and lit the candle inside with a silver lighter. As the flame grew bigger, they dispelled the shadows below the hood that had disguised the person's features before. I could feel my eyes get big as I finally realized who was standing before me.
-> Gives enough information to "fill the white room" without dwelling on details too much, shows the context of the story, gives Jae a consistent personality
So that's it for this post! I hope I managed to pass on a thing or two that I learned while researching and that this post will help you with your writing. Please acknowledge, I am not trying to attack anyone's style of writing!! If you write the way I wrote a "non-immersive" scene, it does NOT mean that your writing style is bad, let alone wrong, because the existence of many different writing styles is what keeps it individual and interesting! Find your own way and let nobody get you down :)

Raising Harry Potter with Remus Lupin
What if Remus Lupin raised Harry
This is a OC x Remus Lupin, Alex Lupin was James potter’s twin sister. Remus and Alex have Clara who is two year older than Harry.
I hate JK rolling but i love Harry potter.
I hope you like this!!
Also this is 3100 words! this is the most words I have written for a story
Chapter one
Chapter three
~chapter two~
“Harry! Sit down, Clara please stop running around!” I watched as my eleven-year-old Clara and nine-year-old Harry as they of excitedly waiting for the post because Clara realized that she now she's eleven she will be getting her acceptance letter to Hogwarts soon or that what we all hoped.
Clara ran up to me I could see the excitement on her face as her dark brown curly hair bounced like her fathers and dark brown eyes shined with happiness. As Harry settled down, I gave Harry his book so he could get his schoolwork done, Remus and I thought that he would be safer if we home-schooled him like we do with Clara. “but mama, my acceptance letter from Hogwarts will be here soon! I can’t calm down, I soon will be able to go to the school where you and dad met and where you and dad fell in love like Uncle James and aunty Lily did, I hope I meet someone like that at Hogwarts!”
I hear a deep chuckle from my husband at he looks up from his book “I hope not, you are too young to be thinking about falling in love” he said with a tired voice, when I looked up to him, I frowned at his exhausted expression as I shake my head at his overprotective nature to his daughter.
“Don’t listen to your father Clara, I’m sure you will meet your other half, like I did with your father” we heard what sounds like an owl outside the window and she squealed so loud and run straight to the door of our small little cottage.
After a few minutes Clara came run back inside with the mail in her hands, “Mama! Dad! It here, it here, it here!” as Clara ran into the living room, running straight up to Remus to show him with a giant smile.
“So, it is my dear” Remus grabbed from Clara to see the booklist and started to read it out loud “Uniform: Three Sets of Plain work robes (Black), One Plain Pointed Hat (Black) for day wear, One Pair of Protective Gloves (dragon hide or similar), One Winter Cloak (Black, silver fastenings) and Please note that all student's clothes should carry nametags at all times” Remus stop for a second “Books: The Standard Book of Spells, Grade 1 by Miranda Goshawk, A History of Magic by Bathinda Bagshot, Magical Theory by Adalbert Waffling, A Beginner's Guide to Transfiguration by Emeric Switch, One Thousand Magical Herbs and Fungi by Phyllida Spore, Magical Drafts and Potions by Arsenius Jigger, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them by Newt Scamander and  The Dark Forces: A Guide to Self-Protection by Quentin Trimble” He stopped again, I know what he thinking, “ Other Equipment: one Wand, one Cauldron (pewter, standard size 2), one set of glass or crystal phials, one telescope, one set of brass scales, Students may also bring an Owl OR a Cat OR a Toad and parents are reminded that first years are not allowed their own broomsticks”.
Remus put the letter down “how are we going to pay for all this?”.
“I can get into my Gringotts vault, Remus we will be fine” I looked over to him, I know how he feels when he can’t provide for his family financially.
“Yeah, dad don’t worry” Clara said, “because I am going to HOGWARTS!!”
“And in two years harry well be going to Hogwarts too”.
Harry looked so excite that he will also go to Hogwarts like Remus and I did, like how Lily and James did. I couldn’t help but smile at Clara and Harry, my children and I will kill to protect them.
Remus looked back to the letter and sighed “So? Can we go get everything now!?” Clara asked with a hint of excitement in her voice, my smile grow a little bit at her words, Remus looked over to me looking for an answer, I shook my head.
“Sorry dear not to today, we will have to wait”.
“But why?”
“Because you still have a couple of months before school so we shouldn’t rush”.
“But why? If we get it all now than we won’t have to worry so much”.
“Not this week but how about next week, sounds good?” I asked my eleven-year-old.
“But why?”
“Because the full moon is tomorrow and the shopping would be very draining for your father, not to mention that your father would want to be there when you get your wand and the other school supplies, right Remus?” Remus nodded his head at me.
“Your mother is right we have plenty of time, so we don't need to worry about it until next week”.
“Aww okay, but only because dad is hurting” Remus and I shared a look as Clara sat down next to Harry, Remus let out a little laugh.
“If it makes you feel better you pick and help me make dinner tonight” Clara’s face lit up at my words.
A week has past, Clara and Harry are both jumping with joy as we walk down diagon alley. “Okay, you two some rules” the children looked up to me as we stopped “rule one no wandering off on your own, we need to be able to see you especially you Harry because of how famous you are in our world, we can’t have someone stealing you” Harry nodded, grabbing my hand “rule two we are only getting school supplies nothing else. Anything else Remus?” I looked up to him, Clara grabbing Remus’s hand.
“Just when we get to Gringotts, you need to be careful. Just stay near us and you two will be fine” he said with a smile “okay, shall we get going then we've got a lot to get” and with that we were off to Gringotts.
When we entered Gringotts Harry and Clara looked amaze at the things around them, Remus and I never really let them out of the house often for many reasons. Because of how paranoid we had become, or I had become because of the war, I was scared that everyone was out for my children and Remus was worried about Fenrir greyback so was I, but we were always worried and terrified that Fenrir would get to Clara to get back at Remus.
“Wow” Clara and Harry let out in amazement at we walked up to the front desk.
The goblin at the front desk peered down at us from his tall desk “I would like to open my family vault” I said in a clear and kind of demanding tone, you could hear the iciness to my voice as I spoke “the Potter vault” I held out my key to the vault. Clara and Harry flinched at the tone of my voice because I’ve never spoke that way in front of them.
“Right away Mrs lupin” and we were walking to the carts to get to the vault.
“Harry this the vault your parents left you, of course you have to share with me because I'm your aunt and the fact that you were underage but don't worry most of the money in this vault is yours” as we speed off to the vault as Remus and I grabbed the kids, so they don’t fall off the cart, we stopped with a jolt.
“Here we are Mrs lupin” as we got off the cart the goblin used the key to open the vault, once opened I pulled out a small bag and quickly grabbed enough that could get us Clara's school supplies, but before leaving I grab a Silver-Sickle and when over the goblin to give to them, as they closed the vault.
After that we were out into diagon alley, “where to first?” Remus asked with a tired smile.
“I want to get my wand!”  Clara excitedly shouted at us as her and Harry jumped up and down. I held out my right hand for Harry to grab, Remus held his left hand for Clara to grab and Remus grabbed me left hand.
I smiled up at him “alright then to Ollivanders” as we set off to get Clara her wand.
As we walked hand in hand down diagon alley, Harry and Clara looked around in an amazement at the different shops, when we stopped out the front of Ollivanders Clara was jumping with widest smile on her face, Harry also look happy but also sad that he has to wait another two years before it his turn.
Remus let go of my hand and opened to door for me and Harry. Harry went first then me, then Clara and Remus was last one in, Letting to door close behind him “Ollivander?!” I yelled out for the man. He came running out at my voice.
“Is it you Miss Potter? And Mr lupin? What a surprise” he called out as he walked up to the front desk.
I let put a laugh “it’s Mrs Lupin and Mr Lupin now, it’s been that way for years now. But we are here for our daughter Clara, she is starting at Hogwarts this year” I said to the old man in a nicer tone then at Gringotts.
Ollivander looked in an amazement at my daughter “oh I remember when you and Remus got your wands for the first time, 10¼", Cypress, Unicorn hair for Remus and Willow, dragon heartstring, 12 ¾" for you Alex, am I right?” I nodded to the man.
“Yes, you are right” Remus said with a laugh as he push Clara in front of him gently “go on Clara” Clara walked up to the desk, Ollivander has already pulled out wands from the stack of wands that wrapped all around the shop.
Clara when though twelve wands before getting a Unicorn hair, Spruce wood, 10¼" wand I paid for the wand and we were off to get the rest of Clara’s school supplies.
We had gotten just about everything except fora pet for her to bring to Hogwarts with her. We were walking up diagon alley when Clara stopped in front of a store that held owls and cats, my eyes followed her gaze and landed on this beautiful pitch black like the night Sky owl “mum can I-“  I cut her off by grabbing her hand and pulling her into the shop and quickly going up to the front desk.
“how much is it for that owl” I pointed at the owl telling a woman at the front desk, Clara looked extremely excited when I when she heard me say that Remus looked very confused from outside with Harry also looking confused, the woman at the front desk saw mine and my daughter's excitement tell me the price and I quickly headed over the money. Not long after that Clara and I were walking out with the owl cage in hand smiling brightly at my husband and my son, Remus slowly shook his head at us but also had a smile on his face.
“What are you going to call him?” Harry asked looking at the owl in bewilderment.
“Midnight”.
“CLARA! Where are you?” I yelled out for Clara, she came running down the stairs her hair is a mess her shirt was inside out and back the front, Remus in kitchen making some tea looking as peaceful as ever well I was freaking out inside because my daughter was finally going to Hogwarts. Harry was sitting down on table finishing his breakfast, Clara had already finished an hour before. We still had about two hours before we had to get to Kings Cross station to get on to platform nine and three quarters “Oh my Merlin Clara turn around so I can fix your hair. Your shirt is inside out and back the front” she took off her shirt and quickly put it the right way around before turning around so I could fix her dark brown curly hair. I pulled it in ponytail.
“My dear calm down-“ Remus tried to get out but was quickly cut off by me and Clara.
“How can I do that?!” Clara and I said together, all Remus did was have a small little laugh at that.
“We have two hours; it is enough time stop worrying so much” again Remus tried to calm us down. Clara run off muttering something about she needed to make sure she had everything, well I calmly walked over to my husband and just flopped in his arms he started to rub my back and gave me small little kisses on the top of my head I let out a large sigh “it’s all right to be worried but you're only stressing out yourself and Clara” I sigh again knowing that he is right, I lift my head up so my chin was resting on his chest, Remus lean down and give me a kiss on the lips. Just a small peck but I could feel so much love behind it. I gave him a week smiled as he moves his head away, he continued to rub my back knowing that that will calm me down just a little “have some tea my love”.
I move from his arms, I grabbed myself some tea that he had just made and walked to sit at the table with Harry. Remus also came and sat across from me from the table with his own cup of tea and we sat there in silence while we waited for Clara to come back.
We waited as we heard a lot of banging and crashing and then her screaming down to us that she was fine and not to worry and a few curses slipped here in there I looked at Remus in worry as an hour had passed, he reached over the table and gently grabbed my hand something that he did when I was feeling anxious. Harry also grab my other hand as he also tried to comfort me, 10 minutes later Clara came crashing down the stairs with her trunk with everything that she needs in there as well as midnight cage in hand she sat them down as she walked and sat at the table with us looking out of as I know she rushed down the stairs.
Remus was the first one to stand up from the table, clapped his hands together “it should take us roughly about 30 minutes to get Kings Cross station so we might as well leave now. Would leave a little bit time when we get to the platform” I nodded my head, standing up with Clara and Harry following my lead as I grabbed midnight cage and Remus grab the Clara’s trunk and we were out the door heading out ways to king cross station.
As we got to King cross station, I couldn't help but feel overwhelmed by how many muggles for around. Me and Remus have been living in isolation for about 11 12 years. So, it felt strange to be around all the muggles, then I heard a familiar voice and I saw a familiar pair of redheads “now remind me again what platform?” the voiced asked.
“Nine and three quarters mom, you would think with three of your sons going to school you would know the platform by now” a boy’s voice answers. I quickly look in the direction of the voices and then grabbed Clara's arm and Remus is arm and pulled them both, Remus quickly grabbed Harry pulling him with him as I pulled them towards the redheaded family.
“Molly!” I yelled out to the small redheaded woman, at the sound of my voice Molly quickly turned around as soon as she saw my face, she quickly ran over to me and gave me the biggest hug.
“Alex dear! Oh, my, how are you?” Molly asked as she pulled away and noticed Remus behind me with Clara and Harry “Remus! It’s so good to see you both”.
“how about we continue this discussion on the platform?” I asked.
“Oh, yes right let’s go” Molly said excitedly as we quickly push past all the muggles around us, Molly grabbed hold of my arm I quickly let go of Clara and Molly had pulled me through the wall and onto the platform. Molly and I moved out of the way of the wall as Clara and a redhead boy, who looked around Clara’s age.
“Mama!” Clara quickly let go of the boy's hand and went over to me “that was so cool, but I felt little uneasy to go through by myself, so George here went through with me”.
I looked back at the boy as Remus, Harry and rest of the Weasleys came through the wall, “thank you George, that was very nice of you” I said to the now blushing boy.
He started nervously scratching the back of his neck “is no problem really” he said walking to his twin. Remus and Harry walked up to us.
“I see that you were kidnapped by Molly” Remus said with a grin I lightly smacked him on the arm.
“Molly this is Clara mine and Remus’s daughter, it’s her first year at Hogwarts. And Harry my nephew who I consider my son”.
“It’s Fred and George’s first year too” again Molly looked very excited to hear that news.
we were closer to the train, me and Remus asked if Clara she wanted help her with her trunk onto the train, but the Twins quickly swooped in and told us that they were able help. We said our goodbyes me and Remus kissed Clara on the forehead in the cheek hugged her so tightly. As we let her go onto the train she goes to sit in a compartment with the Twins. She waves at the window as the train leaves.
We waited for the train to be out of sight before turning to Molly and Arthur who had little Ginny and little Ron with them Molly made Remus and I promised it will have to go over to her place and have a cup of tea with her someday soon. I quickly looked back to where the train was as we walk through the wall again, I couldn't help but wish for my daughter to be safe.
When Remus, Harry and I finally got back home there was a letter waiting for us from Hogwarts a letter handwritten by Albus Dumbledore asking about a new teaching position teaching third years an up first aid. Asking for me to fill the position.

The Unknown Muggleborn - Chapter 20

Tumblr media
"And you, (L/n)," Malfoy leers as (Y/n) crosses the shop after Harry. "I'm astounded you didn't go in for the attention. That seems to be your focus at school."
"Leave her alone, she doesn't want attention," says Ginny. It is the first time she'd spoke in front of (Y/n); she's glaring at Malfoy.
"(L/n), you've got yourself a girlfriend!" drawls Malfoy. Ginny goes scarlet as Ron and Hermione fight their way over, both clutching stacks of Lockhart's books.
"Oh, it's you," says Ron, looking at Malfoy as if he is something unpleasant on the sole of his shoe. "Bet you're surprised to see Harry and (Y/n) here, eh?"
"Not as surprised as I am to see you in a shop, Weasley," retorts Malfoy. "I suppose your parents will go hungry for a month to pay for all those."
Ron goes as red as Ginny. He drops his books into the cauldron, too, and starts towards Malfoy, but (Y/n) grabs him by the back of his jacket, looking rather bored.
"Ron!" says Mr. Weasley, struggling over with Fred and George. "What are you doing? It's too crowded in here, let's go outside."
"Well, well, well — Arthur Weasley." It is Mr. Lucius Malfoy. He stands with his hand on Draco's shoulder, sneering in the same way.
"Lucius," says Mr. Weasley, nodding coldly.
"Busy time at the Ministry, I hear," says Mr. Malfoy. "All those raids . . . I hope they're paying you overtime?"
Mr. Malfoy reaches into Ginny's cauldron and extracts, from amid the glossy Lockhart books, a new copy of A Beginner's Guide to Transfiguration. "Obviously they have," Mr. Malfoy says, looking surprised. "Hmm, I wonder, what's the use of being a disgrace to the name of wizard of they only pay you enough for one lousy book."
Mr. Weasley flushes darker than either Ron or Ginny, and (Y/n)'s eyes flash silver.
Even though Harry and Hermione knew it is probably useless, but they grab onto the back of (Y/n)'s shirt, straining to hold the girl back.
"We have a very different idea of what disgraces the name of wizard, Malfoy," Mr. Weasley growls.
"Clearly," says Mr. Malfoy, his pale eyes straying to (Y/n), who is holding Ron back, and Mr. and Mrs. Granger, who are watching apprehensively. "The company you keep, Weasley . . . and I thought your family could sink no lower -"
There is a thud of metal as Ginny's cauldron goes flying: Mr. Weasley had thrown himself at Mr. Malfoy, knocking him backward into a bookshelf. Dozens of heavy spellbooks come thundering down on all their heads; there is a yell of, "Get him, Dad!" from Fred or George; Mrs. Weasley is shrieking, "No, Arthur, no!"; Draco is squealing as (Y/n) twists his arm back - the girl having moved faster than the others had seen - (Y/n) pushing the arm up closer to Draco's shoulders; the crowd stampedes backwards, knocking more shelves over; "Gentlemen, my dear, please - please!" cries the assistant, and then, louder than all -
"Break it up, there, break it up -"
(Y/n) turns her gaze on Hagrid, who is wading towards them through the sea of books. (Y/n) lets go of Draco's arm, but not before shoving him forward; Draco stumbles, falling face first into a pile of books. In an instant, Hagrid had pulled Mr. Weasley and Mr. Malfoy apart. Mr. Weasley had a cut lip, and Mr. Malfoy had been hit in the eye by an Encyclopedia of Toadstools. Malfoy is still holding Ginny's Transfiguration book. He thrusts it at her, his eyes glittering with malice.
"Here, girl - take your book - it's the best your father can give you -" pulling himself out of Hagrid's grip, Mr. Malfoy pulls Draco from the ground and sweeps from the shop.
"Yeh should've ignored them, (Y/n), Arthur," says Hagrid, almost lifting Mr. Weasley off his feet as he straightens his robes. "Rotten ter the core, the whole family, everybody knows that - no Malfoy's worth listenin' ter - bad blood, that's what it is - come on now - let's get outta here."
The assistant looks as though he wants to stop them from leaving, but he barely comes up to Hagrid's waist and seems to think better of it. They hurry up to the street, the Grangers shaking with fright and Mrs. Weasley beside herself with fury, and a contented smirk on (Y/n)'s face.
(Y/n)'s friends look at her, amazement in their eyes. Last they knew, (Y/n) didn't know any martial arts or anything of that nature. Something must've changed for her over the summer, Ron thinks.
"A fine example to set for your children . . . brawling in public . . . what Gilderoy Lockhart must've thought -" Mrs. Weasley scolds her husband.
"He was pleased," says Fred. "Didn't you hear him as we were leaving? He was asking that bloke from teh Daily Prophet if he'd be able to work the fight into his report - said it was all publicity -"
But it is a subdued group that heads back to teh fireside in the Leaky Cauldron, where Harry, the Weasleys and all their shopping would be traveling back to the Burrow using Floo powder.
. . .
"Hermione?" (Y/n) questions her sister, (Y/n) and Hermione having joined Ginny and Neville in one of the carriages in the train.
"Hmm," Hermione says, looking up from one of her Gilderoy Lockhart books.
"Is that a flying car?" (Y/n) asks and the other three in the compartment dash over, looking at the blue Ford Anglia flying through the sky beside the Hogwarts Express.
"That's my dad's car," Ginny says, looking away shyly as (Y/n) turns her green gaze on youngest Weasley.
"Ron and Harry are so dead," (Y/n) mutters and Hermione nods, going back to her Lockhart book.
. . .
With an earsplitting bang of metal on wood, the blue Ford Anglia hits the thick tree trunk and drops to the ground with a heavy jolt. Steam is billowing from under the crumpled hood; Hedwig is shrieking in terror, a golf-ball-sized lump is throbbing on Harry's head where he had hit the windshield; to his right, Ron lets out a low, despairing groan.
"Are you okay?" Harry says urgently.
"My wand," groans Ron in a shaky voice. "Look at my wand -"
It had snapped, almost in two; the tip is dangling limply, held on by a few splinters.
Harry opens his mouth to say he is sure they'd be able to med it up at the school, but he never even gets started. At that very moment, something hits his side of the car with the force of a charging bull, sending him lurching sideways into Ron, just as an equally heavy blow hits the roof.
"What's happen -?"
Ron gasps, staring though the windshield, and Harry looks around just in time to see a branch as thick as a python smash into it. The tree they hit was attacking them. Its trunk is bent almost double and its gnarled boughs are pummeling ever inch of the car it could reach.
"Aaargh!" says Ron as another twisted limb punches a large dent into his door; the windshield is now trembling under a hail of blows from knuckle-like twigs and a branch as thick as a battering ram was pounding furiously on the roof, which seems to be caving. "Run for it!" Ron shouts, throwing his full weight against his door, but next second he had been knocked backward into Harry's lap by a vicious uppercut from another branch. "We're done for!" he moans as the ceiling sagged, but suddenly the floor of the car is vibrating — the engine had restarted.

Dark Academia For Beginners: A Guide for Those Who May Not Have a Lot of Time & Money
Sometimes it’s hard to see posts that are like “Dark academia is reading books and wearing tweed and smoking cigarettes and strolling down school halls with friends”. Well, I am poor and new to this aesthetic, and there is a pandemic. So I present to you.... ✨Dark Academia For Those Rich in Heart and Not in Pocket✨
-Wearing that ring you found in the parking lot after going to the movies, along with a necklace from your mother and your mismatched silver earrings
-spending your psychology class online trying to find that one super weird skull painting where if you stand at one angle it’s all stretched and at another it’s three-dimensional(hint: it’s a holbein)
-Tucking your biggest flannel into your jeans pretending its a fancy blouse
-Collecting scraps of paper from schoolwork and projects, hoping to one day turn it into a paper-mache project
-You cry when you think about any university. Your own, your friend’s, Yale, your local community college... how could you not cry when the idea of a place filled with secrets, ghosts, friendship, and old brick pathways is just beyond your reach?
-You played the phantom of the WAPera remix once ironically but now you’ve listened to it 10000 times. That and Take me to Church by Hozier
-“Mom, can i make some tea?.... Hot chocolate?.... Soup? Yes I know it’s still kind of warm out but i need some tea 🥺”
-Hanging up pictures from the art book you got from a library reject pile
-You reorganize your desk at midnight. Your sisters tell you to go to sleep. But you can’t. Not Yet. The paint and books must be stacked perfectly.
-You fall asleep to rainy day lofi, dreaming that you’re in a library

The Descendant Part 3: The Letter
Harry slowly gets up, grabbing his glasses which he has placed next to the picture of his parents.
His only possession of them,
His parents on the left, his mum holding him while his father has his arms around them both. On the right, a similar family with a little girl, mother holding her and father wrapped around them both.
Harry looks to the back of the cardstock, and reads the words he reads oh so often,
"Her name in (Y/n) Ravenclaw"
The Raven haired boy slowly gets up and begins making breakfast for everyone, then goes to collect the post,
Grabbing all the post from the bottom of the door frame, scanning through and surprised to see something for him,
"Mr. H Potter
The Cupboard Under The Stairs,
4, Privet Drive,
Little Whinging,
Surrey"
As he gave his uncle the rest of the mail, he kept his letter and began to open it,
"Father! Harry has mail!" Dudley yells as he snatches the letter out of Harry's hand and taking it to his father,
"Give it back! That's mine!" Harry yelled at Vernon,
Vernon laughed, "Who would be writing to you?" He questioned, looking at the writing on the front, then the wax seal on the back to see four quadrants, a lion, a snake, a badger, and an eagle with an H in the middle. Looking at Petunia,
"Off to your rooms both of you, boys." Vernon says,
"But dad-" Dudley started
"NO! To your rooms!"
Harry was curious as to what that letter was, and why it brought such a reaction from his uncle.
Harry woke up the next day and yet again did his daily routine, made breakfast, served it, picked up the post,
And yet again. There's another letter.
The same exact one.
Vernon noticed there was yet another letter and threw it in the fire place.
As Harry was doing his chores, he happened to look outside and see a load of owls in the mailboxes, houses, trees, house number signs, everywhere. Harry thought this was strange, but thought nothing of it, over all.
This happened for days, the letters would come in, and soon they were the only things the Dursley's were getting though their drop box, five, ten at a time!
Every single one went into the fireplace.
Harry woke up today in a slightly sour mood, it was Sunday.
He walks into the kitchen and began breakfast, his uncle Vernon was quite chipper today, and he knew exactly why.
"Good day, Sunday, any idea why Dudley?" Vernon asks his son, to which he shakes his head
"Its because there's no post on Sunday's" Harry said gloomily,
"Right you are Harry! No post on Sunday. Not one blasted lett-"
The house had begun to shake. The fireplace roared, Petunia took Dudley into her arms to protect him.
All of a sudden, the fireplace shot out hundreds of the letters, Harry immediately going to get one of them, jumping onto one of the chairs in the living room, trying to grab one of the letters falling from above him, letters stacking up on the floor of the living room, and just as Harry almost had one in his hands, Vernon grabs the back of his shirt and drags him out to the car,
"Daddys gone mad hasn't he?" Dudley asks his mum, to which she nods.
They drove for hours on end, then rode the boat in the storm, out to a dingy cottage in the middle of nowhere,
"They'll never find us out here, never!" Vernon exclaims as they pile into the small house. Vernon and Petunia going to the room up the stairs, Dudley taking the moldy, moth eaten couch, leaving Harry with the dusty old floor and another moldy blanket.
Harry was unable to fall asleep, so, he drew a birthday cake with 11 candles and happy birthday Harry into the middle,
As soon as Dudley's watch started beeping midnight, Harry looked at the cake on the dirt covered floor,
"Happy Birthday Harry", blowing out the "candles"
As soon as Harry had blown out the last of the candles, there was banging on the door, and someone had knocked it down, Harry smartly hid beside the fireplace, out of view of the door.
Peaking around the corner, Harry saw a large figure in the middle if the doorway.
As the figure walks in, Harry heard his aunt and uncle rush down the stairs,
"Sorry 'bout tha'" said the large -man, as Harry knows now- as he proceeds to pick up the door, surprising everyone.
The fire lights up the faces of everyone in the room,
"Get out! You're trespassing on private property!" Vernon points a double barrel shotgun at the man, to which the large man bends the shotgun,
"Dry up Dursley, you great prune!"
The man looks towards Dudley,
"'arry! Been lookin' for ya! Of 'ourse you're a bi' more rou'ded since tha last 'ime I saw ya! Espec'ally there in tha 'iddle"
Harry then decided to walk out from his hiding spot,
"H-He's not Harry, I am.", making the large man turn towards him,
"Well o' course ya are! I'm Hagrid, Game'eeper at 'ogwarts, (Y/n)'s back ou'side waitin on us in tha boa'"
"Hogwarts?" Harry's curious as to what that is, and if this (y/n) is the same one from his picture.
"Well ye', where'd ya t'ink yer 'arents learnt it all? Which 'eminds me, I go' this for ya. Rec'on I may of sa' on it, made it me'self, 'ords an all, with some 'elp from (Y/n)" Hagrid hands Harry a box and a letter, the same one from the fireplaces and the post back at home.
Harry opened the box to see a bright pink cake with green icing with the words, "happee birthday haree", making Harry smile then frown, setting the cake down
"My parents?"
"Yer 'arents were wizards, 'arry, and yer one too, af'er a bit'o trainin o'course"
"I-I'm not a wizard, I'm just Harry."
"Well, just 'arry, 'as anythin ever happened, tha' ya can't explain? When ya 'ere mad or u'set?"
Harry thinks back to the zoo, to the glass and the snake, Dudley falling into the water of the enclosure, and everything makes sense,
Harry finally decides to open the letter Hagrid had given him earlier,

"THAT'S ENOUGH!" Harry looked up from his letter as his uncle had yelled,
"We swore to put a stop to all this rubbish when we agreed to take him in!" Vernon argued,
"You knew? You knew all this time and you never bothered to tell me?" Harry was enraged that they had never told him of his wizard genes
"Oh! Of course we knew! With my perfect sister being what she was! I was the only one in the family who saw her for what she was! A freak! I knew you would be just like her. Then she had to go run off with that Potter and get herself blown up!" Petunia ranted,
"Blown up?! You told me my parents had died in a car crash!" Harry was enraged, they had lied to him! About his own parents, no less.
"Car 'rash killed 'ily and James 'otter! Cold'wap!" Hagrid yelled at the Dursley's,
"Enough! We're not paying for him to go to some school and get taught by some crack pot old fool!" Vernon yelled back
Hagrid points his pink umbrella at him, "never insul' Albus 'umbledore in fron' o' me!", then looking at Dudley, who was chowing down on Harry's birthday cake, pointing his umbrella at him and sending sparks, then making a pig tail form on his bum.
Hagrid walked out of the house as the Dursley's were freaking out about the tail that now rests on Dudley,
"Comin 'arry?" Harry smiled and runs out of the house, following Hagrid out to the boat, seeing a small girl laid down in the middle, sleeping.
"Ah, poor 'irl, must've fallen 'sleep, 'arry, tha is (y/n)"
