You've never really named yourself before, but after some consideration, a few good options come to mind...
After some deliberation, you choose a name.
...That didn't come out as well as you'd hoped. Your handwriting could use some work. But regardless, you, Page, have made your choice. You liked those other names too, though. You'll keep them in the back of your head, just in case you get the chance to use them.
After you finish writing, you see something in the corner of your vision, as if plastered to your eye.

ok but hear me out........ the upcoming ts4 pack with the tattoo table......
that converted for ts2, but functional..... same animations as the bv massage table (+ the tattoo gun accessory attached to the artist-sim's hand??? they don't even need to be properly holding it imo, just having the accessory there would be cool i think). the client changes into undies instead of towel, loses comfort/energy(/hunger/hygiene? lmao) and gains fun and maybe social too? so the table advertises for those. change appearance dialog comes up (in the case of facial tattoos) but otherwise tattoos are still applied with overlays as usual (oh to have a 'buy clothes'-style dialog window for tats...... 😢). the tattoo artist gains creativity skill + arts&crafts enthusiasm as they work. custom memory for the client sim if it's their first tattoo (or a repeatable one could be cool too?) 🤔🤔🤔 functional tattoo table.....
#i love to dream up mods that i have no skills to make 💀#ts2#mine#taos rambles#mod ideas#might as well make a tag because i have hundreds of these. and a brain that bluescreens when i see all the numbers in simpe#i do intend to like. sit down and study bhav tutorials and whatnot at some point but. i have no idea if i'll be able to understand it at al

Looking up art tutorials on Youtube is the worst because for every video that has a nice descriptive title like "tips for doing x thing" or "drawing x tutorial" there's a dozen other videos titled shit like "you SUCK at drawing x thing!" and the thumbnail with have "This one mistake is RUINING your LIFE" in big red text and there will be an arrow pointing at some art labelling it "fuckhead idiot drawing made by some dipshit" and then you click on the actual video and it spends two minutes going "boy i sure did struggle to draw before i knew this one tip. drawing was soooo hard. My life would have been sooo much easier if i knew this thing" and then when it gets to the actual tip it's always just some variation on like. "heh. you gotta practice lots 🥴".
#this is a youtube problem not an art tutorial problem i think this is probably the case for every difficult skill#it's just the example that happens to be frustrating me right now

take a shot for every word in this that starts with "distort-"
#kyle gaz garrick#art#tutorial#vif#maybe my explaining skills will improve if i make more (doubtful)#i usually dont post my face studies because theyre mostly just outlines and not fully rendered#first time i ever actually studied elliots face so if it looks wonky af dont mention it

No you don't understand. Reigen does not commit tax fraud or insurance fraud. He doesn't actually have psychic powers, not even a little, or empath powers or what you have it. His family are regular ass people with regular ass jobs and frankly, so is Arataka, a young, self-employed guy living pay-check to pay-check because that's what most people starting out self-employed do. He spends most of the day at work and then gets take-out not because he's bringing college-student energy to the table, but because that's what the average single and fresh member of the japanese work force does. Because holding on to friends at that age is hard enough without existential-crisis-induced self-loathing.
It is so, so important to me that Reigen is the most statistically average twenty something japanese man there is. He's literally just a guy. A perfectly average middle schooler who liked to slack off and forgot his lunch that one time and wanted to be someone one day, when he was filled with youthful optimism, before life got complicated, before he realized he was just another fish in a really, really big ocean with a LOT of other fishes. One perfectly average fish among thousands of other, average fishes that become perfectly average members of society.
#mp100#reigen arataka#mob psycho 100#this isn't a front against people who like to give reigen a little bit of spice in fics#i like those too#but it is so so important to me that reigen is the most normal guy around#his skills are a patchwork of half-assed skills and long-dead-hobbies and youtube tutorials#because that's just what it's like#mp100 meta

trying a very different approach to color ala tim mcburnie style and it's making me melt. figured i'd share it bc Idk it's more complicated but I like the way it's making me think/plan
thumbnail and rough sketch that i liked so much i turned it into....
and then made several color thumbnails/messed around w them for awhile
until finally settled on this one
and then
so the current foliage lines look like this and they're on 11 different layers (i'll merge some to be back, mid and forground in a bit)
(i also started on solas' head just ignore it for now)
and next step is really spend more time on the construction layer for lavellan and the wolf statue (solas is ready to be lined bc i drew him first)
then color with flats using quick masks instead of by hand like i'm used to c:
this is all wayyyy more layers than i'm used to but I do kind of like it so far; particularly the color thumbnail and construction layer/phase part
#idk if this really counts as art tutorial but ? basically?#pina art#i've had this idea in my head for years. like since 2014#and it's bc i imagine solavellan sitting on a fenharel statue while he ties flowers to her staff like in prince of egypt. you know the scen#but i always wanted it set in the emerald graves and ive just never really had the skill to make it come out how i wanted before#anyway i'll updated with completed lines and probably flats later#i want to note i'm not like. spending too long on this. trying to keep it to like 30-60 mins per ''phase''#and the og thumbnail i did several weeks ago lol

🎭After writing something that only a master at penmanship can pull of (proudly thinking how good we pull this off), go back to read the book further in and see what else lies within. What contents does this book have to potentially aid or guide us within the place we are stranded in
>Go back and turn to the second page.
You turn to the next page, and another message is written out for you.
Welcome, Page! You might have noticed two meters in the corner of your vision. Handwriting and Tutorial, right? Or, depending on what you've done so far, maybe more! Those are your Skills, the measure of your various strengths and talents. By practicing them, you can make them level up, making them stronger! Some skills are practiced by using them, others might take a little more than that. If you want to level up a skill, just see what counts as practice! Alternatively, you can use Experience to skip that and level it up right away. It's useful if you need to level up really fast! To do that, just open your Skill Menu and scroll to the skill you want to level up.

clone danny's accident in the clone^2 au
Im thinking about clone^2 danny's accident in this au. he doesn't have his halfa powers in this au. He has his scary eyes and the ghost sense and the ability to see ghosts - kinda takes up a psychopomp role with his ghost cases - and enough ectoplasm to trigger the ghost defenses in his parents' house. But he doesn't have his ghost powers or his ghost half. He's just very strongly liminal.
And im just mmmmm thinking about how that came to be. When I originally made the clone danny au back in the summer i couldn't think of how he had his accident without putting him inside the portal, and I couldn't put him inside the portal and have it turn on and then just say "oh! he doesn't have any powers. he got hit with the full concentrated power of the sun a dimension with just a scratch"
like - like i can't do it. i just can't. i need some plausibility in my aus or i hit road blocks and can't continue (see: my jason variant au and why that took so long to post). but i was at work today thinking about clone^2 au and it hit me like a lightning shot. I think said in the original clone danny post that maybe he got electrocuted by the on button on the outside of the portal. But i was never really satisfied with that answer - it felt too placeholder-y to me. too simple. Less plausible to me than I liked.
so, solution: he still gets shocked by the portal outside, but its from a wiring issue that he spots outside of the portal. My first thought is; the portal had a wire that was unplugged. His parents, essentially, forgot to plug it in. Or maybe in all of their excitement they accidentally unplugged it and didn't notice. It just sounds like the right amount of cartoonishly silly that the Fentons are known for. "We put a second "on" button in the inside portal" -> "we forgot to plug it in"
Danny notices it while he's showing Sam and Tucker around the lab and the two of them are checking out the portal. Something caught his eye from the corner and while Sam and Tucker were talking, he went over to investigate. If this were canon, this would be just before Sam tells him to put on the hazmat suit and go into the portal so she can get a photo (iirc). (So he's currently in reg clothes)
And im imagining it as slightly off to the side. Its two black cords - an extension cord to the outlet and then the cord to the portal. and danny crouches down over it, frowning. his eyes follow the cord to the outlet, and then the cord to the portal, and he picks both up.
'did they forget to plug it in?' he thinks, turning his head to look at the portal's entrance. and logically he knows he should probably put the cords down and tell his parents, let them handle it since they have the expertise for this stuff. But...
his eyes draw back to the plug. it's just a plug. it'd be fine if he plugged it in, wouldn't it? surely, it'd be fine. he thinks about it for a moment.
he plugs it in.
immediately, the energy that had been building up slowly through the wires of the portal - the latent ectoplasm in the room being funneled through whatever tech his parents used to make it - goes through the cord. Like a dam bursting. In a flash, the portal turns on with a worrying bang.
At the same time, Danny is hit with a near-lethal amount of electricity. While not as agonizing as being inside the portal, danny still mentally checks out with pain. and he blacks out. when he comes to, he's laying on his back, still in the lab, with sam and tucker kneeling over him. they're talking - probably yelling, with panicked looks on their faces.
He can't hear a thing they're saying, his ears are full of the overly rapid, irregular beating of his heart and the pounding of his blood. His chest hurts like he's having a heart attack, and he grasps at his shirt as his breathing comes in short, labored.
"Hospital" he wheezes out, and sam gets up and sprints out of the lab upstairs. everything else feels like a blur - his parents and jazz are by him - his parents completely ignoring their swirling, working portal, someone's calling 911, danny's being loaded onto a stretcher with an oxygen mask over his face.
danny gets discharged from the hospital a week later, and sick leave from school for another two. his parents refuse to allow him back into the lab, stating it was too dangerous, and their work comes to near grinding stop to watch over him. It's honestly kinda sweet, but the hovering is annoying him - stubborn, independent teenager that he is. When he gets back to school he's still relatively sat out for phy.ed - he's been getting random heart palpitations (which had been at its worst when he was still on sick leave) and what the doctors think is a strange case of arrhythmia. Although Danny insists that he's fine - he's breathing, alive. Nothing feels wrong with him.
Then one day in class, Tucker turns to him to say something - a joke -and yelps - "your eyes!"
Danny on instinct turns his head to the window, frowning. And in the faded reflection, his eyes are burning shade of green like that of the portal. He blinks, breathing in sharply, and they're back to the his old bright blue.
Unfortunately, they're in english class, and the entire room was staring at them. "Is there something wrong, Mr. Foley?" Mr. Lancer asks from the front. Tucker is still wide-eyed and in shock, and he looks quickly between Danny and Lancer.
"I- no, um- Danny's eyes- they- were, um..." He looks panicked, confused.
Danny steps in, and leans over to Tucker. "I think he just spooked himself, Mr. Lancer." He says, looking frontward with his brows furrowed. "Sorry, it won't happen again."
Mr. Lancer looks unconvinced, and suspicious, but he lets it lie. "Are you feeling alright then, Mr. Fenton? Do you need to see the nurse?" It wasn't a secret to the school or student body that he'd been to the hospital from a lab accident - and that it'd resulted in heart problems that he was recovering from.
Danny grins at him, and pounds his chest lightly, "I'm fit as a fiddle, Mr. Lancer. No heart attacks here." He jokes, and leans back into his seat. Mr. Lancer stares, eyes squinty, and then returns to the lesson.
It keeps happening. Danny's eyes turn green at the most random of times, and the three of them begin wittling down what was causing it. In general, Danny's eyes were turning green whenever he was engrossed with something, or when he got emotional - when he was laughing, angry, upset, anything. Sometimes it resulted in heart palpitations, sometimes it didn't.
his ears were hurting too, aching, like when they were cold. Danny wakes up one morning and spends twenty minutes in the bathroom turning his head left and right - his ears were beginning to point. Sam thought it was cool - Danny just thought it was concerning.
He was seeing things too - apparently. He struck up a conversation with someone on the street once - a strange looking man who looked terribly pale and wore old clothes. He looked delighted to be talking to Danny - and then Sam and Tucker walked up to him and asked who he was talking to.
("What do you mean? I'm talking to him.") ("Danny, there's no one there.") ("What?")
After multiple instances of this, they configure that the accident had given Danny some sort of ability to see ghosts.
("So you're meta now?") ("Mm... I don't know. That doesn't feel right.") ("Oh come on, that basically fits the name to a tee!") ("I know, but I just- it doesn't feel right to call myself meta.") ("If you don't like meta, why not just call yourself liminal? Since the portal is supposed to access the afterlife and it gave you powers to see ghosts.") ("Huh, good idea, Sam. Liminal it is, then.")
And as time goes on - and his parents begin to catch and experiment on ghosts - danny adjusts to these weird new abilities. It's not so bad, he supposes, its just some creepy eye magic and a ghost sense. He can live with that, and no one needed to know. He could go back to being normal - right. ...Wrong.
Do his parents really have to catch ghosts?

plus additional sketch that i made at like 3am last night because i needed to draw it down -- aha ignore the inconsistent drawing ability that i have. i'm more of a writer than i am an artist.

rough art tips to learn and then break at your leisure.
the distance between your eyes is roughly one eye. the corners of your mouth dont extend past the middle of each eye. ears are roughly in the middle of the tip of the nose and the eyebrow. the eyes are in the very centre of the head. the neck is just a Little slimmer than the width of the head (varies with fat distribution, but fat tends to build up under the chin). hair is easier to draw when you plot out the hairline and then where it parts. leaving appropriate distance on the side of the face (cheekbone area and back to ear) contributes to making characters look more realistic/hot as hell. i dont know specific tips for that so use reference. an amazing reference/study site is lineofaction.com . if you think of the face in planes it makes it easier to construct (look up tutorials). if you draw a spiral like a tornado it can help you figure out awkward perspective for extended limbs (look up foreshortening coil technique). tangent lines are when two lines intersect and cause visual confusion (when it looks like a line that defines an arm is part of the line that defines a building, for example) and avoiding them makes your art way easier to comprehend. quick trick to good composition: choose a focal point (where you want your viewer to focus), detail that area the most, and make sure various elements of the piece are pointing to that focal point. you can use colours to contrast hue, saturation, and brightness and make certain elements of your drawing stand out. drawing in greyscale can help you figure out values. using black in a piece isn't illegal but you should know what you're doing when you do use it- it desaturates a piece and if used as a shading colour can desaturate and dull whatever youre shading too. if you use almost-black lineart and then add black to darken the very darkest areas it will do a lot to add some nice depth. the tip of your thumb ends just above the start of your index finger- your thumb also has two knuckles and all your other fingers have three. if you see an artist doing something you like (the way they draw noses or eyes or hair or anything else) you can try to copy that and see if you want to incorporate it in your style <- this is ENCOURAGED and how a lot of us learned and developed our styles. there are ways to add wrinkles to faces and bodies without making the character look a million years old, you just have to keep experimenting with it. The smile wrinkles around your muzzle dont connect to your mouth or to your nose; there should be a small space in between smile or nose and the wrinkle line. eyes when viewed in profile are like < aka a little triangle shape. think of the pupil like a disk and apply foreshortening to it (it looks like a line when seen from the side instead of a full round dot). subtle gradients can add a LOT to a piece. texture can also add a LOT. look up Tommy Arnold's work (his murderbot pieces are some of my FAVOURITE) and zoom in. find those random little circles he added and try to figure out why he added them there. light bounces. there's lots of way light bounces. sometimes it even spreads through the skin. i do not know these light tricks yet but i want you to know that they exist. draw a circle to indicate hand placement, draw a straight line between that circle and the shoulder, and then (normally at a right angle) draw a straight line on top of that line to find the placement of the elbow. elbows are normally placed Just above the hip when standing and your arm is at rest. there are no bad colour combos if you're brave enough about it, just fuck with the saturation and brightness until it works. keep playing. try new things. add your own tips to this post if you want or even expand on some ive mentioned here. good luck go ham etc
#look at this post#the sum of almost all of my art knowledge#all that i can remember rn anyway lmaooo#shit i didn't mention the tips for backgrounds that i know#eh that's environment most of this deals with character work anyway#i learned most of this from tutorials and kind artists who like to talk about their work#i would not know NEARLY as much about creative shit as i do if it weren't for the people who were willing to talk about their skills#and their tricks and their observations. id be nothing without them i dont remember most of them but i am so so grateful for that kindness#so ig here ill spread that a little further#if you have any questions go ahead and ask i am a NERD about art okay i do not know everything but i am always willing to talk about what i#do know#art tips#one of the most important things for you to do as an experienced or beginner artist tho#is to PLAY#experiment#figure out what's fun and what looks nice and what looks nice faster and just. whatever the fuck you want to learn#it is SUCH a joy

I think I accidentally uncovered yesterday why my family generally are fine with generative AI, especially when it comes to arts and "creative" matters.
I am (famously) quite bad at taking compliments (though I have gotten WAY better at it, and am actively working on it), and was drawing on my tablet while my parents sat next to me. My mom complimented my drawing skills, following it up with "I can barely draw a stick figure".
(Side note: this might be a me-problem, but I think that combining a compliment with a "comparison to the speaker" gives the compliment a sour undertone, but again, that might just be me. I've seen too many posts and things about "comparison is the theif of joy" or whatever the quote is, to feel comfy with accepting a compliment that essentially boils down to "holy crap you're so much better than me!!" 🫠🫠)
I thanked her, and replied with something along the lines of "it's all about practice, and I have practiced a lot," to which she countered with "no but like, you've always been good at drawing," to which I tried explaining that, like a muscle, I have been drawing and doodling a lot, in other words, practiced, right? I have always had an interest in drawing, which of course helps keeping me motivated to actually get better at it. And if she wanted to be able to draw more than a stick figure, I am certain she would be able to if she did practice (I brought up PewDiePie's drawing videos as an example), but she dismissed it entirely as something she wasn't able to do.
Even though my mother, having an interest in the human body and as a result knowing damn near every single muscle in the body by the latin name because she studied that, refused to accept that I have done the same to get better at my own skill, because, of course, I never went to school for it, right? I don't have a diploma to prove that I have practiced an ungodly amount of hours and watched more tutorials than I will ever care to count.
Being "good at drawing" (and other arts) is (I think) something my family simply believes that you either are born with, or you're not.
And that's where the justification for gen AI comes in, right? Because if arts is not a thing you practice and study to get better at, it is probably, in their minds, ableist to talk bad about gen AI, because "how can you gatekeep expression in art like that?" (My brother once pulled the argument that "well what if someone wants to make a comic and has the story and all but can't draw? Don't you think they deserve to create that comic in other ways, then?" to which I have never been more confused because what the entire fuck do you think other comic artists did to achieve that in the past, my guy??)
I eventually gave up when my mom kept asking me to "just accept the compliment" but I haven't quite been able to. Because if the compliment is just regarding something "I had since I was born", what has all my practice been for? Why have I "wasted" all this time trying to get better if I was born with the skillset I have now? Why is the compliment directed at me if my parents were the ones bringing me into this world? Shouldn't they be patting themselves on the back for bringing such a creative spirit to life?
#anti-ai#i'm tired#my mom has a tendency to compliment things that are un-changeable too so like it is also very unfortunate phrasing#on her part#and I have tried to explain my unfcomfiness about this to her before but I think she's forgotten that#like yes compliments about my eye color and height and whatever are cool i guess#but if you compliment *the way I did my makeup* or *something I worked hard to achieve* or *something I made* it makes more sense ?? no???#like bestie YOU gave me those eyes or height or whatever I had no CHOICE IN THE MATTER#idk if this is just my undiagnosed neurospicyness reading too much into the situation but#discussing art and creative endeavours with my family is infuriating at times lmao#i tried to explain MULITPLE TIMES yesterday that drawing is all about making sense of proportions and patterns#and yet she tried to shoehorn in the compliment as if drawing was some ancient chosen-one power I had somehow aquired#instead of listening to me explaining that “well I've looked at tutorials about drawing shiny things and this is how I think about it-#-and just mess around until it works because 'trust the process' is actually really solid advice“#i also feel like it just reduces all the work and thought I've put into learning and bettering my skills to-#“well you didn't even have to work that hard bcs you were born with it”#*astronaut meme* maybe it was Maybelline all along#I need to fkn move out I'm so tired of this#tove rambles

star wars outlaws
#star wars outlaws#kay vess#nix#did a brief detour into this game it isn't bad! but certainly lacks in polish for core loops. tutorialization pipelines are ass also#performance - also ass. had to play quality on ps5 for it to have any clarity at all. but the open world is gorgeous#and it certainly nails the very narrow target of horse girl star wars fantasy (ripping across tatooine on a speeder with a little Guy)#nix is everything I love him. modern star wars rarely captivates me but they do know how to do lil guys real well#my photos#star wars#also-also. would be remiss not to mention. never played a game with unregulated scope creep this noticeable before. it's baffling#I KNOW people crunched on this it's in the walls in the floorboards it's everywhere. unmitigated hodge podge of mechanics and pillars#and those pillars are often unbalanced between each other. storytelling payloads are an issue too. there's pre-rendered in-engine cutscenes#real-time in-engine cutscenes. and digic-produced full CG cutscenes. and their placement and prioritization feels insane and inscrutable#like three different teams were working on the game at the same time and never in congress or coordination#it also suffers from the open world 4th and 5th priority narrative payload issues - many secondary and sometimes even primary questgiving#and expository dialogues are in-game zoomed camera lipsync exchanges. or flavor text#on the other hand - surprisingly deft mission design itself? side quests reward either cosmetics or actual unlockable deployable skills#it has fleeting genes of a metroidvania spread across a wide open world in that sense. but only fleeting. the rep system is a smokescreen#and progression in general has a very open and unsatisfying end to it. this game needed less scope and maybe no space stuff at all#the resulting resource allocation adjustment would truly make for a captivating open world adventure. as it stands it feels like#a product of overworked people misusing mismanaged budgets and managing to sprinkle some love into it regardless#games should never be good on the merit of their perceivable seasoning of overwork and passion. that really only bakes a sadness cake

I usually describe my style as semi realistic, though I felt like I've been stylizing a little bit more lately (mostly in hair). But it is usually a normal thing to happen! Since you starting, Im going to assume you are looking for your artstyle too! Honestly is really easy to get catch up on that, but keep you options open!!!

These are some of my main style references, (I tried to keep some akin like poses to show the difference).
Each of them is on a part of the “stylized - semi realistic - realism” specter, and even though the later still is very close to semi realism, you can see that they differ a lot from each other.
If I can say anything about an “artstyle”, is that is just how you like to draw some stuff. Once you're studying art, some things will come off naturally as more appealing than others! That's how you end up with your very own style.
(I like A LOT this video of Shay (sketches of shay) on this topic, is basically everything I could say and a little bit more💜)
But to resume a bit: LEARN THE FUNDAMENTALS!!!! You will develop your style naturally once you understan how shapes, forms and linework connect
2. my process
I had to film a timelapse for this cause I keep turning it off to save space yay!
I cannot stress this enough but ALWAYS HAVE A REFERENCE!!!!!! REFERENCES ARE FRIENDS AND FOOD. EAT THEM UP. U BRAIN WILL THANK U LATER.
I usually keep them on a pop up window or on the left corner of my screen, so I can always reference back and forth while I draw.
(Some good tips on reference here and here)
If i could resume my process it would be references < sketching < clean up < coloring < detailing.
I don't usually do line art, just clean and refine my sketch on its own layer. Much like you would do on paper, except if I'm working on commissions, but that's another thing.
Also, my painting changed a lot over the months, but I centered my studies around this and this. I like using a base color (either beige or purple) so the colors blend more easily, it really depends on the vibe I'm going for the colors, for example, if I'm doing a darker art, I'm going for a grayish blue, if I'm going for a sunny environment I put the base under a warm beige. It goes a little bit into color theory (I learned it on a "for dummies" video so I can't explain it fully, I'm sorry)
I like to keep my layers as minimal as possible, but that's just a personal preference. When I started, I used to do a layer for everything until I gained some confidence in my brushstrokes but I think that's something that goes from artist to artist so work on what's better for you!!!
3. brushes

I also keep them as simple as I can. To sketch I like using brushes that have a pencil like texture? Anything with a little noise is a go-to for me. Also for rendering i mainly use the basic ones that come with most programs, except the one called “yeeee” that I downloaded somewhere (I can't remember it for nothing, but it's just a round brush with less opacity in the corners), and the “THE render brush” from clip studio that I use to blend here and there. The one marked with * is the one I use whenever I'm going crazy on rendering the hair with is from a really old sakimichan brush pack but is still very handy (tho I think anything with a slight "hair" texture would do the job too).
I recommend u AGAIN to found what's the best for you. What I think is the most important is to not depend 100% upon some brush.
I think is this 🥺
If there's anything specific you want me to tell don't be shy to ask!!! I will so my best to answer!
AND DON'T GIVE UP!!!!! ART IS A KNOWLEDGE THAT TAKES TIME AND PRACTICE!!!!!! YOURE DOING GREAT AS LONG AS YOU KEEP GOING!
