Will AI and Machine Learning Take Over Civil Engineering Degree?
If you’ve been following the latest trends in civil engineering degree, you might have noticed that Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) are making quite a splash. But what does this mean for traditional civil engineering degrees? Will AI and ML render these programs obsolete, or will they enhance the educational landscape? The Changing Face of Civil Engineering Degree Civil…

They don’t even attempt to assassinate US politicians anymore. You notice that? Not since the anthrax scare back for… who was it, Barack? And even that… pathetic. This new generation has no respect for an honest hitman. I’m not sure this new generation has any honest hitman - you see that shit with Boeing? Sloppy, fucking disgraceful - you kill the whistleblowers before they get halfway to a lawsuit. What kind of fucking amateur is doing faked suicides the night before testimony? Goddamn greenhorns. Back in my day someone tried to shoot Ronald Reagan in broad daylight. There used to be bomb threats to Congress. I took out a few union leaders in the utilities sector myself. Today’s generation? Won’t even threaten to throw a punch - not even over on that - what’s it now, ‘X’? They got no guts. None! And they don’t even have poor impulse control to boot! Too much of that - that panopticon anxiety bullshit. “Oh what if I get a called out post???” People used to send the president letters full of bioweapons. In the mail! Today’s generation? Not a chance. All because of woke.

The thing about the time lords is yeah they’re a super powerful species, it wouldn’t be all that inaccurate to call them gods of time, but you get yourself a time lord and like 70% of the time it’s like oh this is a guy I could kick in the shins really hard and get away with it unscathed

leo valdez with a breeding kink… i’d literally give that man anything he wants 😫
OHHHHHH FUCK ME. I WANNA KISS YOU ON BOTH CHEEKS FOR THIS ONE. Leo does not realize he has a breeding kink until it hits him like a fucking semitruck. you're with some family and friends at a little get together, and you end up looking after a baby cousin to give their parents a break. you have the kiddo on your lap while you chat with your friend, and when Leo gets back with drinks he nearly drops them. Boom. Light switch on, breeding kink in full force. He doesn't even realize what's happening, not quite yet, but all he knows is that it's going to take every ounce of self control he has to wait until the party's over. after a physically painful eternity that he suspects is his eternal punishment from the gods worse than pushing a boulder or being strapped to a boulder or holding up a planet sized boulder (it's maybe an hour and a half max) you're finally on your way home. He nearly pulls an irish goodbye just to get his beautiful beautiful hands on you sooner, and Leo is NOT the type to leave without at least a dozen hugs and cheek kisses and leftovers and plans to meet up next time, so you know something must be going on with him. the only reason he doesn't fuck you in the car (and he is this fucking close) is because he knows that he wants to take his time with you. Also, he can get pretty vocal. Also so can you. (anyone would with him jfc) so he keeps his hand on your thigh while he drives. He rubs it, inches it up higher and higher, higher than he ever has outside the bedroom until he's practically fingering you in the passenger seat. Honestly you wouldn't complain if he did. The sound of your flustered, surprised giggle when he pick you up and carries you into your house over his shoulder, all unga bunga like something primal has woken up inside him. And it has. When he lays you down on your bed which is still descheveled from the fun you'd had that morning, when he kisses you like he's hungry and strips you down like he's unwrapping a christmas present, neither of you know what's gotten into him yet. But he knows one thing for damn sure.
There's no way in hell he's pulling out tonight. Or ever again, if he's being honest.
So really, you'll both find out what's gotten into him (and you) in about nine months

Jaune: "Being friends with people who know engineering can be funny sometimes, simply because of the irony of the skill difference between us."
Jaune: "I know for a fact that both Ruby and Yang have rebuilt an entire car engine and made a turret sentry for the fuck of it. Yet, the two of them were still impressed when I was able to show them an RC car that I made."

Anyone want to help me make El really popular by drawing him super hot and coming up with a bunch of ships for him? I think that's how fandom works. I don't know how else to make a character popular. Anyone want to do that with me? I don't how to make characters super hot or come up with crowd-pleasing ships, but I could try.....

Something really just. Nice that I noticed with the bros is that each of them has shown off some pretty interesting skills.
Raph is the one who fixes April’s ceiling fan for her, Mikey takes on half the work when making the new puppy rescue for Todd, and Leo is outright able to reprogram Shelldon’s AI (he messed up, but the fact he was able to do this at all is like??? Raph and Mikey were there too did they know Leo could do that because they were not surprised-)
Of course, this is nothing compared to Donnie’s own immense talent and skill for inventing and science in general, but it shows that the others are not incapable of assisting in his field if need be.
What I like to think with all of this is that they listened to and likely helped with Donnie’s various ideas growing up. Sure they may not get the specifics, and complex science talk goes right over their heads, but in a pinch they’d be able to get Donnie the right tool or set a wire back in place. It’s not as necessary now that Donnie is much more independent when he makes things, but it’s cute to imagine there being a time where the others had to pitch in and learned some stuff because of it.

Open question: What Monster Hunter memes/in-jokes do you still remember/use?
Why do I ask? Well, because I'm listening to Monster Music on shuffle, and at some point, I tune back to the BGM and my brain went "oh, this is Steve's theme." it took me a moment to remember this creature's real name was Seregios.

So I made another Wallpaper Engine thing, this time with Mistilteinn and Magolor! Not only can you adjust how the wallpaper can be displayed, you can also squish Magolor to make him talk! By default, the particle effects will be unchecked in case your device can't handle it.
Here's the link to the Steam workshop item!

[Headcanon]
The space program took a whole month off of development after Tektite's accident, so that Slate could have the time to perfect their leg. They'd already been working on articulated flaps for in-atmosphere steering for Feldspar's ship - conserves fuel to not use jets for that - and hey, an artificial ankle is just another type of flap to articulate, right?
Gossan wasn't so sure - especially with Slate's full-tilt approach to experimental engineering, at odds with Tektite's trepidation - but all of the founders agreed that the program could wait until their neighbour was back on their feet. And to Slate's credit, Gossan had never seen them show as much sheer methodical focus, before or since. This was somebody's limb here, after all: their ability to move of their own accord, their ability to get out and about in the community and do the things they love, their ability to still feel like their body is their own. Slate was hardly about to phone it in, or risk any wild experiments when it came to Tektite's comfort and requirements.
It took several iterations, and several difficult test walks around the town square gripping Slate's arm, but together the pair of them worked out a final model that's been serving Tektite well to this day.
(...Of course, the dedication and focus that so pleasantly surprised Gossan only made Slate's awkward avoidance of them after their own accident sting even more. Was it really that hard on their poor guilty conscience, to think about doing something similar for a friend, instead of darting their gaze away just short of Gossan's face?)
#outer wilds#original posts#outer wilds tektite#outer wilds slate#outer wilds gossan#*this headcanon is not a vessel for gosslate angst#it's an idea on its own that i really enjoy thinking about#the coming together of these ambitious young Hearthians with resources & technology & deciding to use those things to leave no one behind#instead of pushing harder for what was probably a pretty exciting midway stage of the space program#I imagine they'd had Feldspar and Esker up in the air for a while and Chert was just starting training#and looking promising#but this was worth it to delay. Slate's skills were needed elsewhere for a while.#as for Slate and Gossan...#yeah; there wasn't really as much to be done for Goss as far as a prosthetic went; but I don't think that's what they wanted#I think they just wanted Slate to look them in their remaining eyes and acknowledge what happened. without being defensive or avoidant#or overly pitying#just acknowledge it and the fact that it was partially their doing; and offer up something to ease the road ahead#like a sensor for the ships to help with depth perception. or a brace to help Gossan stop craning their neck until it's sore. or a hug.#Gossan's read on it is about what I intended; by the way#Slate isn't icked out by their injured face or anything like that#they're just guilty. Gossan can't heal until the thing's acknowledged#and Slate can't stop being defensive until they stop feeling like Gossan's forcing them to look at a failure they can't undo#for no reason other than to make them feel bad for it still#it's messy. and unfortunate. and makes Gossan feel betrayed and Slate feel hounded for something they can't go back and fix#and I really; really like it. on a story basis. I want to keep writing about it in the future and handle it with deserved nuance#but for now this is 3/4 a Tektite and Slate post and the focus is that when it really really matters#that lunatic of an engineer sure can lock in#and the thing that makes that happen doesn't have to be spacefaring and glory#it can just be a member of their little village who's in need

So this is admittedly coming from me using my engineering paper to do art studies (which actually has been very helpful for proportion consistency and understanding why something looks off to me)
But I agree that Gideon is actually a fairly decent artist who has whatever the equivalent of an engineering notebook in Avantris is, full of drawings, blueprints, and schematics.
While most of these are of equipment, rides, and gadgets he's either seen or been wanting to make if he ever had the resources for them there are some of people and creatures that catch his eye.
Now, these drawings tend to be very technical just basically replicating exactly what he sees down to fine details. They're not gonna be hung up in museums or aiming to express some deep, symbolic meaning.
They're are as direct and to the point as the man holding the pen drafting them. More akin to biological illustrations or engineering drawings. Little distinction between drawing a person to drawing a machine.
It can come off quite cold, actually. Maybe even unnerving to see yourself dissected and pulled apart into components.
It's why Gideon doesn't consider himself much of an artist. To him, this isn't art. If anything, it's closer to copying or tracing in his mind.
Initially, when Kremy finally got to see these drawings, he was a little disappointed with how stiff and clinical they all looked. He particularly didn't know how to feel about all the ones of him from angles he personally found unflattering or the ones that were side by side comparisons to wild alligators.
And maybe perhaps previous romantic notions of a hidden page of him rendered with soft strokes and reverent shades of charcoal were quickly erased, but at least Gid got his snout shape correct.
It does ease his mind at least that the rest of the crew gets the same treatment. Sure, there are still more pages of him than anyone else, but Kremy boils it down as a product of near constant proximity than one of muse. Otherwise, his interest in the notebook fades. The illustrations are still impressive within their own right, and he makes sure to tell Gid that whenever he finds him angrily ripping out a page that he's spent almost an hour over correcting dimensions on.
It really isn't until he finds a page on Torbek that wasn't there before that Kremy starts to pay it any mind. There's nothing particularly special about Torbek's page. It's the same clinical breakdown of his physiology and of his attire.
But it's there now when it wasn't there before in all the time they've known Torbek prior to the Faewild. Then, another page appears with Twig and all her little details pinned to the paper.
That's when it finally occurs to Kremy. Gideon, a man who prides himself in living to the fullest. Never slowing down as he races from one moment to the next. Is taking the time to notice and jot them down to memory.
These are not quick, sweeping scratches of lead. But meticulously measured lines calculated to take on the form of their visage. Every flaw, every nick, every piece that comes together to make them a whole, living mechanism perfectly replicated and accounted for.
There are no vibrant hues or eye-catching gestures that make one feel like they were sculpted from silk, but there is beauty in the exact distance between your eyes.
And if Kremy instinctively begins to still at the sight of a ruler taking his measurements from a distance, to afford time to a man who's only ever had it taken from him well that's between him and the good Baron.
