Dating Tom Holland Before He Became Famous | Headcanon
Note: Hello! It's been a good hot minute since I've written for my boy but since there's so much Tom related things happening, I got inspired to write this. Hope you enjoy! The photo is my all time favorite 'boyfriend vibe' so I think it fits with the theme.
Tumblr media
The first time you met him, Tom laughed and told you, "you have to pull not push the door for it to be open, darling"
Then he walked down the same hallway as you and walked into the same classroom as you and he sat behind you with a stupid grin on his face when you corner eyed him
He asked to be your partner on a subject that wasn't even really needed to be shared; reading the next two chapters
You two shared notes which became sharing notes and doodles in class which led to sharing numbers
You asked to go over to his house and he secretly regretted screaming, "what? Yeah! Sure! Of course!"
But hearing your laugh was worth making a fool out of himself
But knowing both of your faces are bright red when his mom says, "oh so this the famous, Y/N" is something he will always remember. It will be a good thing.
Harry loves catching you two off guard with his camera and taking a cute candid photo that makes Tom smile and ruffles his brother's hair and asks him to please send him it. He sets it as his phones homescreen.
Harrison and you love making fun of your boyfriend
Harrison also loves remembering you that he is still Tommy Boys favorite and their bromance is strong and will never die
Tom thinks you like Harrison better but that's far from the truth
Who else would be a dork with you?
Who else would deal with your rants and listen and rant right back?
Who else would try cooking and failing making your favorite food?
Who else would hear what's your favorite TV show/book/movie is and learns everything about it so you two can geek about it?
Who else would ask you to come to the store with them, just because they want to spend more time with you and make it seem like it's a fun lil adventure?
Tom gushes everytime you tell him how proud you are of him watching him practice his line for the next drama show
He teaches you how to dance in the kitchen
He doesn't care if you get him sick, he wants to take care of you
His hands are always on you. Hand on your hip as he stands right beside you, his fingers going through your hair (it's hard to hear him say sorry if a finger gets trapped in a knot since he's laughing) as you two watch a movie, he gets fussy if you aren't holding his hand while walking
He loves putting his head on your lap and saying, "I like this view" as you look down at him and you both laugh when he sees you double chining it
Piggyback rides aren't a smart thing to do when he wants one, but he tells you, "you're the strongest person I know" and it's so easy to tell that there's a deeper meaning behind it and he truly means it
Both of you like to tease each other. He likes to put his hand on your inner thigh and he flexes a lot and even runs his long fingers against your jaw as he gives your a forehead a kiss. You like to scratch the back of his head and tracing his back muscles since his skin gets covered in goosebumps, and you like keeping him on his toes when you tell him another celebrity crush you have
He gets jealous over the celebrity crush thing but says, "you'll be my plus one to every single event. Not theirs."
Birthdays and Holidays are the perfect time for you both to challenge each other with who will give the better gift. At the end, it's very easy to remember that it's the thought that counts and you both love each other (he does get mad at himself for not thinking about a memory box. But you did. He gets excited to know that you two are going make so many more memories with each other. When the time comes and box gets filled, he will make you one)
When he gets asked, "what do you look in a girl?" in a interview, he looks at the camera and says you're name and sinks into the chair as his cast mates make fun of his "young love puppy face" and the audience 'awwws'

Masterlist | Taglist | Prompt List
Tumblr media
"I'm Tom Holland."
"That does not sound like me!" Tom protests, mock offense displayed on his face.
"You're right, you're right, my bad. Okay, let me try again," You said, coughing you slap your chest a few times. "I'm Tom Holland!" You said using your best British accent and high pitched voice.
Tom smacks his lips together, rolling his eyes, "And I'm (Y/N) (L/N)!" He said, making sure to do an over the top impression of you.
"And we're answering the internet!" You announced, lifting a jar full of paper slips to the camera. You pull out the first piece of paper, reading it over yourself, thinking over an answer before saying it out loud, "What's your guy's go-to date night?"
You and Tom both look at each other before turning back toward the camera, "Netflix and cuddles."
"Not chill," You clarified, "this is a family-friendly show, Netflix and cuddles."
"Although," Tom objects, "sometimes we chill," he winks at the camera. You slap his arm for the comment and he yelps in pain, "Kidding!"
"Moving on." You hand the jar to Tom and he rummages around a bit before pulling out a random slip of paper.
"What's the worse feeling in the world?"
You pause, tapping your chin as you think. "Oh! Do you know when you're like really excited to get an apple and you go and get it and you're expecting it to be all crisp, juicy and sweet and instead you bite into it and it's kind of soft and a bit dry?"
Tom bursts out laughing next to you, burying his head in his hands as his body shakes with laughter, "oh my god, I love you," He spoke.
"I love you too?" You said although it came as more of a question. You weren't quite sure why Tom was laughing so hard, you were being serious.
He gathers his composure, wiping a few tears from his eyes, "Okay, so now that my girlfriend gave her ridiculous answer."
"It's not ridiculous! You asked and I answered," You interrupted, crossing your arms. Tom rolls his eyes, patting your knee gently.
"The worse feeling in the world for me does not have to do with food," He makes sure to give you the side-eye at the comment, "It’s when (Y/N) gets mad and I'll tell her to 'calm down, baby' I made that mistake once and I never will again."
You nod your head, giving the camera a serious look and pointing a finger, "Seriously don't tell your girlfriend or boyfriend that or they will strangle you."
"I've experienced it firsthand," Tom backs you up, "It's not my preferred method to be choked."
The whole room goes silent and you can feel your cheeks burning up in embarrassment at his comment, of all the things that come out of his mouth he had to say that? Tom glances at you, scratching the back of his neck, he mumbles a sorry and quickly hands you the jar of paper. You’re quick to pull out another question to change topics, "I simp for Tom's biceps any day."
Tom wiggled his eyebrows, flexing his muscles at the camera and you giggle, wrapping an arm around the muscle, "Honestly, me too."
Tom smirks, flexing a bit more and you gasp, making dramatic camera motions as he goes.
"What's the next question, lovie?" he asked.
You dig into the jar pulling out a slip, "How can I die for Tom Holland without being dramatic?"
Tom blushes, letting out a soft chuckle, before looking down at his converse and back toward the camera, "I don't know, maybe just don't die for me?"
You pat Tom's shoulder, flashing an apologetic smile at the camera, "Sorry, he gets flustered easily."
Tom scoffs, swatting your hand away, "do not."
You quirk an eyebrow at him, but say no more and read the next question to yourself, laughing.
Tom looks over your shoulder, before you fold the paper up again, "What? What is it?"
"How can I be (Y/N)'s new boyfriend?"
"Absolutely not!" Tom screams, ripping the paper from your hand, crushing it as you laugh, almost falling off your seat.
"She is perfectly happy with me!" He huffed, chucking the piece of paper offset as you continue to giggle next to him.
"Position already filled," You told the camera, leaning over to press a quick kiss to Tom's cheek.
"I think I’ll be picking the next question." Tom takes the jar from you and pulls out the next one, "If you guys could date anyone else in the world, without offending the other, who would it be?"
"Louis Tomlinson," You said, not missing a beat. At the same time, Tom says, "I wouldn't."
"oh shit," You giggle, biting your lip as you look to Tom.
His mouth falls open as he tosses the paper aside, "Of all the people and you pick my favorite member of One Direction?"
"Well, he's your favorite for a reason, no?" You counter.
"The man's got great hair, I won't lie. He's funny as hell, but I'd like to think my girlfriend prefers me than an ex-boy band member."
"It was a hypothetical question," You reassure him before adding, "but Louis if you're watching this my number is-"
Tom slaps a hand over your mouth, "Don't even think about it."
You stare at Tom, looking back down at his hand and he catches on quickly, "babe," he warns.
You giggle before licking his hand and he retracts it quickly, wiping it down, "Babe," He whines as you laugh.
"We're very professional," You point toward the camera, smirking as Tom continues to wipe his hand on his jeans.
"That's why they put us in this interview together," Tom said, still wiping his hand.
"Anyway," You take the jar back from Tom. "While my boyfriends freaking out because I licked his hand and I literally kissed him this morning, let's move on to the next question." You slip your hand in the jar, mixing up the paper a bit before picking out a random one, "PLEASE bring back the bed selfies."
Tom laughs, "See here's the thing, I would, truly, but (Y/N) doesn't like when I post myself shirtless and I quote, 'looking like perfect boyfriend material.'"
You scoff, "Priorities, Tom, Priorities. I'll let you post them when I get to be cuddled in your chest as well."
Tom shrugs, looking into the camera, "that can be arranged."
...
"We have some very special guests here with us today," The host said, causing all the fans to clap and cheer. "You might know him as the fishbowl man, but ladies and gentlemen, please welcome Jake Gyllenhaal!"
The crowd claps as Jake jogs onto the stage, he stands arms open as he accepts their applause. He makes a more motion with his hands, to which the fans obey. He laughs, taking a bow as he takes his seat on the far end of the table.
"Next up we have the man, the legend, the one who plays your favorite sixteen year old from Queens, Mr. Tom Holland!!"
The crowd loses their mind as Tom strolls onto the stage, he stands, blushing, mouthing thank you as he bows repeatedly, blowing a kiss to the crowd while flexing a muscle. He takes his place next to Jake, tapping his microphone, "I'd like everyone to give a warm welcome to our other new member, you may know her as Eva Rose, but to us, we call her (Y/N) (L/N) or as I like to say, my lovely girlfriend," he winks.
The fans cheer, clapping and screaming as you take the stage. You smile, waving back at them and blowing a kiss, doing a little shimmy to your seat, where Tom pulls you down for an innocent kiss that makes the fan scream.
"I'd like to welcome our next guest, my best friend, and a walking goddess Zendaya!" You said into the mic. She struts onto stage, doing a little twirl as the fans cheer. She waves, grinning as she bows and takes her place next to you.
"And finally, we have, everyone's favorite, the only reason you want to see this movie, Jacob Batalon!" Tom grinned, waving his best mate on stage. Jacob runs on, fanning himself in mock excitement, laughing as he takes the last seat.
"Hey, guys! How is everyone?" The interviewer asks.
"We're good!" Tom said, waving to all the fans, "happy to be here."
"So this your second movie and obviously the cast has changed a bit, can you tell us what it was like working with them?"
Tom nods his head, looking toward Zendaya and Jacob, "Um, I think it was a really cool experience working with (Y/N) and Jake. It was kind of surreal to be working with such big names in the business, ya know? I met the love of my life on set too, so that was kind of a big plus."
You shrug, leaning into the mic, "it was just a big plus, that's all it was."
"Trust me, you didn't want to be on set when (Y/N) wasn't around. All Tom would do is gush about her for hours on end. I thought my ears were going to fall off," Zendaya pipes up, laughing as Tom goes red in the face.
"He got the girl, didn't he?" Jake asked.
You nod your head, "I think he did, not quite sure."
Tom swings his arm over your shoulder, "No I definitely did."
You look up at him, taking the chance to press a quick kiss to his lips and he hugs you a bit closer. Jake rolls his eyes as Jacob and Zendaya fake gag.
"You should've seen them on set, it was horrific."
The interviewer laughs, "I assume that means you guys have some embarrassing stories to tell?"
"Plenty."
The interviewer goes around asking questions about the movie-making process, filming, stories from the set, and questions from fans. You unscrewed the lid to your water bottle, taking a sip and Tom uses the opportunity to gently tilt it upwards, causing more water to come out. You cough, wiping down the water that drips down your chin as you glare at Tom. He smirks, giving you a coy smile and you have to resist the urge to slap it right off his face. A few fans had noticed the interaction and were pointing to you two, giggling. You lean over, whispering in Tom's ear, "I'm going to get you back for that."
He turns toward you, covering his mic, "I'd like to see you try."
"If you could play any other character, who would you want to play?" The interviewer asks.
Tom uncovers his mic, leaning in to answer, "Um, I think I'd like to play-"
You poke him in his cheek and he turns his head toward you, "yes?"
"Nothing carry on."
"As I was saying I think I'd like-"
You poke him again.
"Babe."
"Nothing."
He continues speaking and this time you let him go a bit longer before yet again, poking him in his cheek, this time he continues, swatting your hand away, only restoring in you poking him more as he continues to try and speak.
"I'm sorry," Tom said, "My girlfriend is making it very hard to answer."
You smile sweetly, "No one cares what you have to say anyway. I'd love to play MJ."
Zendaya laughs, "I'd like to play maybe... Shuri could be a lot of fun."
The interviewer moves on to some fan questions, handing them mics so they could talk to you.
"Hi my name is Isaac," One of them said.
"Hi, Isaac!" You all chorused.
"I'd like to first say I love you, (Y/N)."
You place a hand on your hear, "I love you more."
Isaac laughs, cheeks tinted a fair shade of pink.
"Seriously," You add.
Tom sits beside you, pointing to himself, giving the audience a quizzical look, "look like she's moved on already," He pouts.
You roll your eyes, "I'm sorry, Isaac. Tom's quite clingy."
Tom grabs your hand in his as if to prove your point. He kisses your hand softly.
Isaac chuckles, "my question is, do you ever get jealous of Tom and Jake's marriage?"
Jake bursts out laughing, slamming his fist down on the table as he regains his composure, "That was the best question ever."
"Um, no, no, I don't get jealous. It's hard to when you're just the side chick," You replied.
Tom's head is buried in his hands as he and Jake laugh.
"See what I mean? There was never a competition, Jake already won."
...
Tom held a small bin in his hand, full of tiny slips of paper, "So it's like charades, but with words?"
The interviewer nods, "Right, so there's something on the paper and you have to describe it without saying anything on the card, you have five minutes."
"I can do that," Tom muses, "can we start?"
The interviewer nods and Tom pulls out the first piece of paper, reading it to himself, Your first date.
"Um, it was you and me," Tom starts, "we were on set, in my trailer and we ordered some crappy pizza-"
"Our first date?" You asked. Tom nods throwing the paper away.
"I thought the pizza was quite nice," You mumbled.
Tessa
Tom makes a barking noise, not even looking up from the paper as you immediately said, Tessa.
Tom breaking his nose
"Okay, this happened to me once on set this year. It has to do with my facial structure, it happens more often then I'd like."
"Face fillers!" You said.
"I'm going to pretend you didn't just say that. I've done this about three times, it normally involves blood and bruises, the directors hate when it happens..."
You think about it for a bit, staring at Tom's face, "Oh, you breaking your nose!"
He nods, grabbing the next paper. (Y/N)'s iconic premiere look.
"You do break it a lot, your poor nose."
He shrugs, "'s fine now, hospitals work magic."
"It's actually my kisses that heal his nose," You corrected.
Tom nods his head, smiling up at you, "Okay, um, my girlfriend, she went to a thing and was dressed in like a-"
"My red carpet look?"
He crushes the paper, "You did look gorgeous, lovie."
"I know."
"I don't know why I even bother with compliments."
First kiss
Tom thinks about it for a bit, before tapping his lips gently and holding up his pointer finger. You tilt your head to the side, before leaning in to kiss him softly. You pull back only for Tom to grab the back of your neck and bring your lips against his again.
"Wasn't asking for a kiss, baby, but I won't complain."
"What is it then?"
He taps his lips again, "We were on set, having a funny face competition and you made a duck face and I thought you wanted to do a thing and so I did a thing."
You burst out laughing, "our first kiss?"
Tom grins, cheeks dusted pink, "yeah."
He grabs another piece of paper, Tom spoiling movies.
"Marvel hates me because of this."
"You spoiling movies."
(Y/N)'s strange love for apples
"We were in an interview and I asked a question and you immediately replied with the most ridiculous answer ever-"
"Apples."
When (Y/N) stepped on a snake
Tom laughs, taking a minute to calm down as he remembers the vivid memory, "We were in Australia, on our way back from the beach and there was an ssssss."
You stare at Tom as he does an impression of a snake, making a hissing noise and moving his hands and head in a (what you assumed) was a slithering motion. If you were being honest, you knew exactly what the card said but you quite liked Tom doing an impression of a snake, "when I stepped on a snake."
He snaps his fingers, "yes!"
"In my defense, the snake was the same color as the sidewalk and It didn't make any noise, but uh, it was pretty scary, it hissed and I ran."
"I've never seen her run so fast in her life," Tom added, "I almost couldn't keep up with her."
Tom's fear of spiders
"It's ironic, I'm terrified of what I am."
"Your fear of spiders."
He pulls the next card, "You for some reason think this guy is better than me-"
"Shawn Mendes? Harrison? Niall Horan? Dylan O'Brien?" You list off on your fingers.
Tom hides his face in his hands, "oh my god."
"Oh! It's Jacob!"
"I don't know why I bother with you."
You giggle, grabbing one of his hands to hold, squeezing it gently, "Is it Louis Tomlinson?"
He tosses the paper to the side and you kiss his cheek, "I only think he's hotter."
"Gee thanks, babe."
"I love you," You whispered, making a kissy face. He sighs, leaning in to press your lips together, noses brushing.
"M'kay, sure you do," He mumbled, grabbing the last few pieces of paper.
"You guys have five seconds left," The interviewer announces, startling you both.
Tom blinks, looking down at the few pieces of paper in his hands, "I shouldn't even bother, should I?"
You shake your head no and he looks to the interviewer who gives him a thumbs up to keep going.
"My best mate, he went to go get us something and he came back and managed to make a mess."
"That's extremely vague, but I'm guessing when Harrison spilled coffee all over himself?" You inquired, Tom tosses the paper in which you take a sign that you were right.
Tom nods, grabbing the last piece of paper. He gets down on one knee, gently taking your hand in his.
"Oh! You and Jake’s marriage."
He nods, getting back up and sitting next to you. He tosses the now empty bin behind him.
“Man, you’re so lucky to be married to such an amazing guy.”
Tom shrugs, smirk playing on his lips, “I guess he’s alright, would’ve preferred someone else though.”
You gasp, bringing a hand in front of your mouth, clearly displaying the diamond ring on your finger. Tom looks at it, shrugging as he turns to face the camera. You wink, blowing a kiss, making sure the diamond reflected in the light, “oh really, who’s the lucky person?"
Tom winks, holding up your interlocked hands, two rings set on each, "Who knows?"

A blurb about cute jealous!Harry
i dont have a nice title for it....
Read more of my works here.  Read If You Love Me, Come Clean here.  Be a part of my taglist.  Read Only Yesterday here.
thank u so much for waiting for me !
Harry didn’t know what he was getting into. Only that and the fact that he didn’t know why he was so god damn invested at the Ellen Show with Tom Holland sitting at the couch across. Tom and you recently had a movie together and Harry loved it—loved your performance when he attended the special screening. You were his girlfriend after all. The public didn’t know it yet but everybody in Hollywood knew the nights you spent together and the kisses you shared in secret parties. So, it was no surprise when You arrived at the private screening of your movie with Harry’s hand on the small of your back. Unfortunately, Tom stole you from him to do PR business. It was quite funny how you met, though. He was invited in another premiere of the movie and was praising you for your performance. He liked you to the point that he even had his assistant contact your assistant so you could star in his upcoming music video, Watermelon Sugar. You agreed, excited because you were a fan of Harry and One Direction in your teenhood. Harry was elated when he received your message and as of the moment, while he watches Tom Holland relive your shooting days with him, he couldn’t help but feel quite jealous.
“Y/N is such a nice girl! Very down to earth and one time, she even brought this coffee kiosk for everyone because of the early call time,” Tom gushed. “Safe to say that I had to up my game because of that day,” he chuckled.
Harry rolled his eyes. Of course you were nice! Everybody knew your partnerships with different charities and foundations. Not only that but word on Twitter quickly spreads out. He doesn’t know why he’s annoyed at Tom Holland, he was so nice during the movie screening.
“You know, stare a bit more and you’ll definitely kill Spiderman with your mind,” Mitch said, sitting beside Harry. The singer just chewed on his gum a little more harshly when Ellen proposed a game of Who’d You Rather. Harry almost fell into her trap once but he declined, saying that it would most probably cause havoc. Ellen agreed.
“Okay, Tom. You know how the game works, right?” Ellen asked.
“Yes,” he replied. Soon, a photo of you and another actress that Harry could care less about was flashed on the LED screen.
“Y/N,” Tom said without hesitation. The crowd cheers. You were currently the most talked about ‘ships’. Soon, your picture was matched with other girls—singers, models, and actors and Tom still chose you. Harry was furrowing his brows now. What the fuck? Mitch, on the other hand, was watching with amusement. He’s never seen Harry like this.
“Why Y/N?” Ellen pried. Tom only blushes and Harry knows that wasn’t a fake one. Nobody can fake a blush!
“Y/N’s a great girl,” Tom said. “Perfect, actually,” he gushed. Harry doesn’t know why but he suddenly spit his gum on the floor and Mitch topples in laughter. Harry was full-on choking now and it took him awhile to recover. He picked the gum up with scrap paper and threw it in the trash, walking out to mute Tom Holland’s pathetic way to profess his crush on you.
Mitch, who was doubling in laughter decided to inform the group text about it and Harry shouts, “Fuck off!” to him, which made Mitch laugh harder, if that was even possible. Harry was full-on pissed now—especially at that Tom Holland prick. Everyone at the group text was making fun of him now and he wanted nothing more than to lock himself in his Malibu home until he no longer had to see Tom Holland’s face anymore. He decided to stall time by visiting your Instagram page and Harry nearly throws the phone on the floor.
The first photo that popped on his screen was you and Tom having a laugh during the red carpet of the screening. You captioned it with, “great times with Tommy” and although it was posted two days ago, Harry wanted nothing more than to scoff. Fucking Tommy and his nickname. Harry decided to keep himself busy and just ignore all your posts with Tom Holland, until he saw a video of you doing one of those 73 Questions videos. It was shot at your New York penthouse just before Harry arrived to get his cuddles.
The video started with a few basic questions about you and your whereabouts. The interviewer was asking fun stuff like your favourite perfume, your favourite song, favourite album, and then soon asked more personal stuff at the nearing end about your advocacies.
“So, Y/N, what is your life motto?” the interviewer asked. You hummed.
“Well, it’s not mine per se but it really encompasses what should be done in different spheres,” you started. “I really try to do it all the time. It’s actually ‘treat people with kindness’ or ‘TPWK’ by Harry Styles. I just think it’s so ingenious,” you confessed. That was enough for Harry to get through the video, hoping to hear his name again. It was weird how he liked hearing his name from your mouth to the whole world. Still, he watched you talk about your humanitarian projects and he liked how politically-inclined you were.
With pride, he sent the link of your video to the group text with the time stamp. “You can all shut the fuck up now.” He texted. The group immediately sent teasing emojis and Harry only scoffed before tweeting “Great times.”
Fans immediately figured that the tweet was connected to you somehow, even going as far as to posting photos of you and Harry sharing a laugh during the premiere. There were already rumours of you and him dating—being seen during the day sometimes or sometimes, it was you posting a cryptic photo on Instagram. Harry ignored the speculations and just took a nap. You’ll be here soon anyway.
You arrived at his house and Mitch greets you, hugging you and kissing your cheek before telling you that Harry was in his bedroom, throwing a fit.
“Harry?” you knocked. Harry was sitting on his bed, his back leading on the bed frame. His arms were crossed and his form was in a pout.
“Hmp,” he snubbed. You smiled.
“Come on, what’s happening?” you asked him, going over to him and sitting beside his legs.
“Tom said that you were ‘quite perfect’”, he mocked Tom’s accent. “In front of my face!”
“When?” you asked, chuckling at how cute he was acting.
“In the T.V.!” he whined. “Ellen made him do the Who’d You Rather game and he chose you over everyone,” he complained.
“Come on, honey,” you chuckled. “You know it’s all for PR and Tom’s my friend!”
“I know but Tom gets to be proud of you in public and I can’t,” he sighed. “Wanna take you everywhere with me,”
“You can if you want to,” you told him. His eyes brightened up.
“Really?” he asked.
“Yeah,” you shrugged. “I talked about it to my managers and they said that we’re old enough to decide on our own,”
“So I can post photos of us now and I can take you to stuff and we can go out together and be cuddly?” he asked, like a baby.
“Yeah,”
“Suck on that, Holland!” your boyfriend cheered.
“He wasn’t competition, Harry!” you scolded. “I love you,”
“I love you, too,” he smiled before opening his arms so you could be in his embrace.

Week 1  Week 2  Week 3  Week 4  Week 5
Week 6 here we go!!!
You were in the studio alone. James had gone home the day after the show and you were a little relieved that the pressure was off, even though he and Ben ended up friendly by the time dinner was over. However, because the upcoming week was going to be a little extra challenging, you decided to get to rehearsal early and work out something more of a routine than you had. You were trying out a step when Ben came in.
“Hello!” you greeted brightly, but you frowned when you saw his expression. “What’s wrong?”
“Did you see what they did on Good Morning America this morning?” he asked.
You shook your head. He pulled out his phone and opened YouTube, pulling up the clip of Gleb and his partner’s interview. Every eliminated couple did a GMA interview after being voted off the show, but you wondered what Gleb’s interview had to do with you and Ben. He skipped toward the end of the video.
“So, Y/N and Ben Hardy,” said the host. “Are they smushing?”
Gleb choked on the sip of water he was taking and looked, astonished, at her.
“Well,” he began. “What they do off the show is none of my business, but as far as I know, Ben and Y/N are just friends. Like all the pros are with their partners.”
“But their chemistry is crazy,” said another host. “Especially that rumba.”
“Like I said,” Gleb continued. “I don’t know, but part of our job is to put on a show. To tell a story. If people believe what they’re saying through their dance, then they’re doing their jobs.”
“Come on, there has to be -” began the first host, but  Gleb cut her off.
“Look, we came here to talk about our experience this season,” he said firmly. “Not to gossip about our friends. What they do or don’t do behind closed doors isn’t my business, and it’s certainly nobody else’s.”
You felt a rush of affection for Gleb as Ben stopped the clip.
“This is getting ridiculous,” Ben said. “Should we say something?”
You rolled your eyes. “Of course not. That’ll only make it worse. The best thing to do is ignore it, and it’ll blow over.”
“I dunno,” he said. “I’d like for people to be talking about the dancing, not our relationship.”
“We can’t control other people,” you told him. “All we can control is how we conduct ourselves.”
“I suppose you’re right,” he conceded.
“I’ve got something I know will cheer you up,” you said, taking his hand and leading him further into the studio.
“Ah, the big surprise,” he returned. “What is it?”
You checked your phone. “It’s gonna be here any second.”
At that moment, the door to the studio opened. You and Ben both turned to watch the newcomer poke his head in. Ben gave a boyish cry of excitement and bounded over to the door as Joe Mazzello came through it.
“Joe!” Ben shouted and barreled into his friend.
Joe beamed and embraced Ben warmly as they fell to the floor in a laughing heap. You couldn’t help but chuckle as well while you watched. They cuddled on the floor and giggled when Ben kissed Joe’s neck.
You turned to the camera. “That is true love right there.”
After a few minutes of them gushing over each other, Ben got up and helped Joe to his feet as well. They were all smiles as Joe came over to you.
“Nice to meet you,” you said, pulling him into a hug. “I’m Y/N.”
“Nice to meet you too,” he replied, kissing you on the cheek. “I’m Joe.”
“I know,” you returned. “I’ve heard so much about you.”
“If they’re from Ben, they’re lies,” he joked.
You laughed. “Well, why don’t we start dancing, guys?”
“What are we doing this week?” Ben asked.
“We’ve got a salsa,” you told him. “So get ready to move those hips.”
“I’m so excited,”  Ben said, hugging Joe again. “I can’t believe you’re our partner.”
“There was no way I was turning it down,” Joe said. “Although I don’t know if I can keep up with you, man, you’re incredible.”
“Well, I’ve got the best teacher in the world,” Ben replied, smiling at you.
You beamed back and Joe raised his eyebrows as he looked between the two of you.
Rehearsal started smoothly, but most of the first day you worked with Joe to get the basics down. He actually moved really well, and once again you were impressed. The routine you were forming was going to be pretty complex, but you quickly became sure they could handle it. By the end of the first day, you had the basic steps down. You were confident in Joe.
Also, Joe was a ton of fun to work with. He was hilarious, and kept you and Ben laughing all through rehearsal. He would miss a step and quickly blame it on you or Ben, which was always amusing. He and Ben had a great back and forth that often left you in stitches. What was best was that they never made you feel excluded from them. You were part of every joke, every conversation, and they paid close attention to your instructions.
You went to dinner together after rehearsal. When the hostess led you to a table, Joe and Ben sat down. You excused yourself to the restroom, but told Ben to just get you water in case the waitress came by. Joe took this opportunity to catch up with Ben.
“So, man, who knew you were a freaking ballroom dancer?” he teased.
Ben smiled. “Really, it’s all because of Y/N. She is such a great teacher. She taught me to foxtrot. She can do anything.”
Joe gazed seriously at Ben. “So, you’ve got it pretty bad for her, huh?”
Ben’s face flushed. “Don’t tell anyone, but yeah, I sort of have a massive crush on her.”
“Don’t worry, your secret is safe with me,” Joe assured him. “But I could tell by the way you look at her. Like she just...hung the moon or something.”
“She is so amazing,” Ben continued. “Like, every time she holds my hand or we sleep in her bed, my heart skips a beat.”
“Sleep in her bed?”
Bed explained the night you were drugged at the bar and the night after watching a scary movie. Joe smiled.
“If it helps, I think she feels the same way,” he said. “It’s the way she looks at you too. There’s...something there.”
“Thanks, mate,” said Ben. “It does help, actually. I don’t really know what to do about it. I mean, this is only a limited time we have together. Then I’m going back to England, and I think she’s gonna go on tour with the rest of the pros from the show.”
“Don’t worry too much about that,” Joe advised. “Enjoy what you’re doing right now, and feel it out some more. It seems to me like she might be worth the distance.”
Ben didn’t have time to answer, as you returned from the bathroom, taking a seat beside him. His arm subconsciously slid around your shoulders. Then the waitress came over and you ordered your dinner.
Within the next two days, you were getting to rehearsing the lifts of the dance. There were a few and you knew they would require a lot of practice. The first was for the opening part of the dance.
“Okay, so you guys are gonna be on either side of me,” you explained. “I’m gonna hold one hand, and with the other you’re each gonna grab the inside of my thigh and flip me backwards.”
Joe moved to start, and you didn’t catch Ben shooting him a warning glare. Joe’s hand landed just above your knee. Ben’s was only slightly higher.
“I appreciate that you’re both gentlemen,” you said, amused. “But you’re gonna have to grab from higher than that.”
You brought their hands up your leg. You missed Joe sending Ben an apologetic look. Carefully, they flipped you, before stepping into the rest of the routine. They did well, so you decided to do the hardest lift of the dance.
“Ben, on this count, you’re going to throw me up over your head, and backwards into Joe’s arms,” you said.
“Jesus,” Ben breathed. “Are you sure?”
“Yeah, I trust you,” you said. You looked at Joe. “Both of you.”
“Do not drop her,” Ben warned Joe.
“I won’t, man,” Joe replied. “Not on purpose anyway.”
You giggled, but Ben frowned.
“Oh c’mon,” you said lightly. “You dropped me once before, remember?”
“So I’m allowed at least one,” Joe joked.
“As long as you don’t drop me on show day, I don’t really care,” you said.
“I do!” Ben protested.
“Okay, let’s just practice,” you said, ignoring him.
You explained the exact mechanics of it. You practiced it once, Ben sending you soaring up. You spread your legs above him and then carefully fell back into Joe, who caught you without a problem.
“Yes!” you cried, beaming at them. “That was great! Let’s do it again!”
You went through it another three times. On the fourth, it faltered. Joe caught you perfectly, but you didn’t close your legs right and you landed on your ankle at a bad angle. You started to go into the next step with Joe but you cried out at a sharp pain.
“Stop!” you said.
“What happened?” Joe wondered, steadying you.
Ben was instantly at your side as you reached out for him. They both held you up as you whimpered.
“I landed wrong,” you said. “I think I rolled my ankle.”
You tried to put some weight on it, but your muscles screamed in protest. You hissed at the pain and Ben turned accusing eyes on Joe.
“What happened?” he demanded. “Did you catch her?!”
“Yes!” Joe insisted.
“It was my fault,” you interjected. “Ben, relax. I just landed wrong. But I think I’m okay.”
There was a nurse from production that they called. She came to the studio, where Ben and Joe lowered you to the floor. They stepped out while she treated you. She gently moved your foot around to gauge the severity of the roll. You winced as she examined you.
“I don’t think it’s sprained or anything,” she said, and she retrieved a wrap and began to bandage it.
“Can I still dance?” you asked.
“Yes, but don’t put too much stress on it,” she said. “Maybe break for a while before trying to start again.”
You nodded.
Meanwhile, outside, Joe and Ben were tense. Ben was pacing. Joe could feel Ben’s irritation.
“Hey,” Joe said. “Can you chill out? I’m not trying to make moves on Y/N, okay? This is just the dance and you’re acting like I’m trying to take your place.”
Ben looked at the floor, ashamed.
“I’m sorry, mate,” he said. “I just - I met her partner from last season and already feel like I’m competing with him.”
“You’re not competing with me, Ben,” Joe reminded him.
Ben nodded stiffly. “You’re sure you didn’t drop her?”
“I’m sure,” Joe said. “She didn’t even know she was hurt until after.”
“Okay.”
They waited outside when the nurse fetched them and told them it was okay to resume rehearsal. They came back and sat down with you. The nurse left, and you thanked her.
“So I’m okay,” you told them. “No sprain. Just a roll. But we’re gonna forget the lifts today and work on the other steps. Tomorrow, we’ll work on the lifts some more.”
You guided them through the rest of rehearsal, and you were able to do a few things in hold but for the most part, you helped them. You didn’t notice that Ben’s brow furrowed whenever you put your hands on Joe’s hips or shoulders to help him move. Joe did, and tried to give Ben a significant look, which Ben accepted. He was trying so hard not to be jealous, but now that he had admitted his feelings, out loud, it was more difficult to disguise them.
When rehearsal was over, Ben helped you home, allowing you to lean on him as you made your way to your apartment. Joe had already gone back to his hotel. Ben opened your door and you looked at him in admiration.
“Ben, you’re practically carrying me,” you said. “You don’t have to do that. I danced today and everything.”
“I don’t want you to stress it any more than you have to,” he insisted.
He assisted you to the couch. You eased yourself down onto the cushions while Ben got you some water. He handed it to you and you thanked him.
“You are incredibly sweet to me,” you said.
He joined you on the couch and you draped your legs over his lap. He placed a warm, soft hand on your wounded ankle. Then he began to gently rub your feet. You hummed and relaxed back, closing your eyes to the comfort of him.
“Tired, darling?” he asked.
You nodded. “You can turn on the TV or something. But I think I’m gonna go to sleep.”
“Well, don’t fall asleep out here,” he said.
He scooped you up and you squeaked with surprise. He carried you to your room and placed you in the bed. You grabbed his hand and pulled him down to join you.
“You wanna have another sleepover?” you offered.
He smiled. “Oh, always.”
You rested on his chest and he wrapped his arms around you.
“Joe is so much fun,” you said.
Ben smiled. “He is great, yeah.”
Ben thought about what him and Joe talked about at the restaurant and for the few minutes outside the studio after you’d rolled your ankle. He wasn’t upset that he told Joe his feelings, but now could not remove the idea from his mind. He looked at you as you closed your eyes against him, his gaze trailing down your face, really taking in the details. The feeling of your smooth skin. Your thick hair falling around your shoulders. The sound of your breathing. He wanted desperately to kiss you. But he held back. He knew he had to consider things after Dancing With the Stars.
Your breathing evened out and he knew you were asleep. He ran his finger across your cheeks and down your nose. Your lips were slightly parted as you slumbered against him. He felt his heart rate quicken at the sight of you. He considered that it might be more than a crush he was feeling. The closeness he felt to you was not something that had ever happened to him before. Dancing with you every week made him happier than he knew he could be, and it wasn’t the dancing that made it so. It was you.
As he held you that night, he thought about what it would be like to share every night with you. Then he sighed. The remaining weeks were going to be rough for him.
The next day, your ankle was rested enough to try the lift again. You kept a brace on it just to be safe. You were putting the whole routing together now, and you could almost do an entire run through of it without stopping. Tweaks had to be made, of course, but it was really getting there.
You were currently in hold with Joe.
“One, two, three, four, step, turn, dip me now,” you instructed before he lifted you and spun you into Ben’s waiting arms.
“Very good!” you praised. “Don’t stop moving, Joe, come with us.”
Finally, you made it through the whole routine without stopping. As a reward, you took a water break. You smiled at both of them.
“We’re killing it, guys!” you said. “I was a little worried since we have salsa, but I really think it’s gonna be great. Len might not like it, but everyone else will.”
“Why won’t Len like it?” Joe asked.
“Not a lot of it is in hold,” you explained. “Which he is particular about.”
“Well, so what?” he replied. “It looks cool as fuck.”
“That’s what I like to hear,” you said, high fiving him.
You spent the afternoon perfecting it. You only had one more day before dress rehearsal and camera blocking, so you wanted to really get it down. As you wound to a close, Joe got a text from Rami.
“Ben, Rami wants us to come to dinner tonight, what d’you think?” Joe asked.
“Well, what about Y/N?” Ben returned.
“That’s very sweet, Ben, but you don’t have to spend every moment with me,” you assured him. “I mean, we spend every day together. Go have fun with your boys.”
“Are you sure?” Joe wondered. “I don’t think Rami would mind.”
You shook your head. “Go. I’ll see you guys in the morning. Really, really good work today.”
They gathered their things, and Joe gave you a quick hug goodbye. Ben embraced you, then looked hard at your face. You searched his eyes for what he wanted, but you couldn’t quite place it. He leaned forward, as if to kiss you, and you tried to think of how you should react to that, but he hesitated. He instead went with a customary forehead kiss and a squeeze of your hand before telling you goodnight and departing with Joe. You felt  your heart pounding in your chest and it wasn’t from rehearsal.
You were pulled from your thoughts when Clark, one of the producers spoke.
“You look really good,” he said.
“Oh, um, thanks,” you said, brow furrowing with confusion. “Everyone says Ben and I look good together, but I don’t really see how we look different from the other couples.”
“Well, you and Ben dance well together,” he clarified. “I just meant you, in general, look good.”
You cocked your head to the side before grabbing your bag and water bottle. “Yeah, uh, thanks again. Have a good night, Clark.”
You clapped him on the arm and left the studio. You glanced back to see him sigh and shake his head. But you didn’t wonder about that just now. All you could think about was that look on Ben’s face before he left. The more you thought about it, the more you were convinced he had wanted to kiss you.
On one hand, you were glad he hadn’t. You didn’t want your first kiss with Ben to be some passing thing after rehearsal. On the other, you wondered why you would consider it your first kiss. Why did you even want to kiss Ben? You’d thought about it the morning after he slept over the first time, but you chalked that up to physical attraction. Now, you were pretty certain you wanted something more. Heat rushed to your cheeks as you slid into the driver’s seat of your car.
“Get a grip,” you told yourself as you turned the key and started the engine.
When you got home, you showered and got into bed. You checked Instagram, looking at everyone’s stories. Sasha and Emma posted their dog, Ruby. Sharna was out with some friends. Witney was snuggled up to her husband. Ben’s story popped up, which was unusual since he didn’t post very much. It was just a simple selfie of him, Rami, and Joe, smiling. Joe was kissing Ben’s cheek. You tapped it and held your thumb down to just look at the photo and focus on Ben’s face. His eyes, even behind a screen, stole the breath out of your lungs.
You groaned, closing your phone and laying back on the bed.
“Get a grip, Y/N!” you scolded yourself again.
But as you settled in, pulling your covers up to your neck, you couldn’t help but miss the weight of Ben’s arm around your waist.
Dress rehearsal went off without a hitch. All the trios looked really good, but you were always impressed with the other pros and their choreography. And then, it was showtime.
You, Ben, and Joe were going last, closing the show again. You were excited, though, because you were certain you had the most exciting dance of the night. Joe didn’t look nervous until right before it was your turn. But he hid it well.
Then, they started your video package, overplaying you rolling your ankle of course. You held Ben and Joe’s hands, helping them to ignore it so they would come in right on the beat. Just as it faded to black, you took your places before you began.
youtube
The dance was so exciting. The crowd surrounded you all as you, Ben, and Joe moved all over the dance floor. The lifts went just right. They both stayed on the beat, and they looked incredible. Joe kept up nicely, and didn’t miss a step.
When it was over, you pulled them in for a group hug. Tom ushered you over to get the judges comments. Carrie Ann adored it and praised Joe for his ability to keep up. Len said exactly what you predicted, that he wished there was more of the dance in hold. Bruno shared Carrie Ann’s sentiments. You then went to the skybox to talk to Erin before receiving your scores.
“So, Y/N, what was it like working with these two handsome guys?” Erin asked.
You chuckled. “They are kinda handsome, aren’t they?” you teased. “Actually, both of them are so great. Joe fit right in with us and picked up on everything really easily.”
“Joe, how did you feel coming in to this?” she asked him.
“Honestly, I was just excited,” he replied. “I’ve never done something like this, and to come in and support my friend was really cool.”
“You didn’t feel like a third wheel?” she pressed, and you resisted a brutal urge to roll your eyes.
Joe shook his head. “No, never. If anyone was a third wheel, it was Y/N,” he laughed. “Ben and I can get really wrapped up in each other.” He cupped Ben’s face. “God, you’re beautiful.”
Everyone laughed. Erin turned to Ben.
“Anything to add, Ben?”
“Not really,” he said. “We did good work, Y/N miraculously didn’t get hurt, and I got to spend time with Joe, so no matter what the scores are, I had a perfect week.”
Luckily, the judges scored you tens again. You jumped into Ben and Joe’s arms and celebrated with them. You were at the top of the leaderboard again, and couldn’t be happier. Even better, you survived elimination without even being in danger.
When the show closed, you went to change, but Ben remained outside to talk to Joe some more. You didn’t ask why, but let them be.
“Thanks, Joe,” Ben said. “For doing this and listening to me be stupid about my feelings.”
“They’re not stupid,” Joe assured him. “Honestly, Ben, if you want my real advice when it comes to Y/N, it’s go for it. I just think you’ll regret it if you don’t.”
Ben considered this. He already regretted not kissing you before leaving the studio or when you woke up after that first sleepover. How much would he regret it if he left this show without ever taking the chance with you?

DATING ZENDAYA PART ONE: Fem!Reader
A/N: okAY LOOK. NO ONE IS WRITING THINGS LIKE THIS ABOUT THIS QUEEN SO LEMME DO IT FOR MY OWN PAN ASS CAUSE I NEED IT THANKS
P.S: a lot of this is just me going off on tangents, if yall dont like it please tell me in my inbox what you would prefer to see in the next part or for other potential celebrities
ALSO NONE OF THIS HAS BEEN REALLY EDITED SO IF IT’S MESSY…I’M SORRY I REALLY AM
AND THIS IS MY VERY FIRST TIME WRITING ONE OF THESE SO IF THERE’S SOME SORT OF RULES TO IT IM SORRY BUT I DIDN’T KNOW
FOR DIALOGUE PURPOSES:
You
Zendaya
Tumblr media
SNAPCHAT/SOCIAL MEDIA:
On god you would be on that girl’s Snapchat all the time (well whenever she posts)
DRIVING VIDEOS
She’d have some music blasting while she pans the camera over to you
Her hand is on your thigh
You’re oblivious to her recording
She flips the camera back on her and she has the sweetest grin on her face
But there would be those few times where you’d catch her and you’d groan at the top of your lungs
“The directions say to turn—Oh my— Can you focus on the road please”
“How can I focus on the road when you’re sitting right next to me?”
“…oh be quiet.”
SINGING OSHJW
It would be a bit embarrassing how many videos there would be of the two of you screaming 2000s R&B hits
Not to mention how many times those videos would be in the car
So you would catch people staring at you 24:7 which adds on to the amusement
If you’re not playing 2000s R&B it’s Bruno Mars..or Beyoncé..LEMONADE TO BE SPECIFIC
“MIDDLE FINGERS UP WAVE THOSE HANDS HIGH”
“PUT IT IN HIS FACE, TELL ‘IM BOY BYE”
She’d record you singing in the shower
You’d record her singing while she’s cooking or watching tv
It always end in a duet
D A N C I N G
YOU ALREADY KNOW THE GIRL CAN DANCE
WHICH MEANS YOU HAVE A THOUSAND OF VIDEOS OF HER GETTING DOWN IN THE KITCHEN
And whenever you decide to start boogieing she has to hype you up
Because if not who else???
But her hyping would get dangerous
She’d get you so geeked you would probably get down so hard you break something
“GET IT GET IT GET IT—“
You: *crashes into wall*
“Oh no.”
*snapchat video cuts out*
Cute Ass Fluffy videos&pictures/MIC
She’d take unnoticed pictures of you whilst you were
Eating
Watching tv
Driving
Sleeping
literally doing anything she invades your privacy so much it should be a bit illegal
You’d both be laughing about something really hard and she’d have to record it (more for her own sake but y’know the world should see it too)
but no one would be about to understand what you guys are saying because you’re both cracking up from laughter
“Y-YOU ARE *snort* SO STUPID–”
“Did you just *cackle* dID YoU JUst sNORT?!”
“OH MY–I’m breaking-g up with you this relations-ship is over.”
You’d be more of the instagram type, posting pictures and videos of her doing similar domestic things
And if you weren’t posting cute photos such as that you were posting a whole bunch of promo for whatever project she was working on
(she would definitely have you model for her clothing line, there is no doubt)
The two of you would try your best to fit small vacations in your schedules
they typically clashed due to her working and your schooling but you managed
you would spend months looking for the best place to spend a couple days, extravagant or not
it could be somewhere on a far away island
or just at some hotel a city away
anything that separates you from your daily stresses
The cutest thing though is how excited she would be to see you no matter the time of day or what was happening or how long it had been since the last you had seen each other
it could months when she was off filming somewhere
it could be weeks–press tours and what not
it could be days in which she had to go travel for some red carpet or fashion show
it could be a couple hours, when she was on very long shoots
and it could be minutes
she just hates being away from you too long
so when she sees you again, the kisses and hugs are indescribable
and the sex is fantastic who am I kidding
OUTINGS
DATES
You two are big fans on PDA
at most its holding hands or a peck on the cheek
You guys are always color-coordinated
You can’t explain why
it just happens
Every
Single
Time
And the fans love it??????
There are several accounts dedicated to your guys’ matching outfits
Some fans would go into full details about it
Others would just scream
and there are some that think it’s some sort of illuminati conspiracy theory but let’s leave that alone
One of your favorite things to do together in public is go for lunch dates
They weren’t always fancy
sometimes it would just be the two of you sitting in her car eating In-N-Out
But other occasions were typically instagram worthy
meaning you go somewhere pretty nice and then end up posting a photo of your lunch with her sitting in the background
these photos would become a collection
every time you guys went out for lunch (or any other meal, but typically lunch) you would post the picture to your gram
And everyone would love you for it
Including Zendaya who would claim to be annoyed by it
but would secretly love it
And if you weren’t eating meals together it was with your close group of friends/the spiderman:homecoming
(TOM)
(HE’S GONNA HAVE HIS OWN SECTION BECAUSE THE BEAN IS ONE OF YOUR GUYS CLOSEST FRIENDS)
Zendaya would invite your closests friends over and it would be a fantastic “group date” (because they were all severely jealous of your love for each other)
lots of dancing
lots of laughing
lots of really really good food
And even though you guys weren’t alone it still felt like it was just the two of you
INTERVIEWS
You were never in the interview
but you did your best to be on the sidelines because she loved having you there
And the interviewers always did their damn best to get info on your relationship
They’d get little things but if they asked the right questions like:
What’s something she does that makes you laugh?
What’s your favorite thing to do together?
What’s one of her quirks that you love?
THe girl would go off on a tangent
Just non-stop gushing about you and your shared memories
Which left you burning in the face and caused butterflies to stir in the pit of your stomach
PREMIERES
The first time she takes you to a premiere as he date it would be Spiderman:Homecoming
and it would be recorded religiously
People already knew you two had been dating for a while now but this was still your first extremely public outing
Meaning you were nervous as hell
But she helped you pick out the perfect outfit because she wanted you to feel as comfortable as possible while still looking fantastic
And the second you meet her eye she’s on the ground, literally throwing a fit because her girlfriend looks so hot (and someone is off to the side posting the whole thing on her snap)
“Come on I wanna see you!”
“Alright alright I’m coming.”
*walks from around the corner*
“…ARE YOU KIDDING ME?”
“WHAT? WHAT IS IT?!”
“YOU LOOK SO FUCKING BEAUTIFUL”
“I hate you.”
You would show up on the red carpet and all she would do is either step back and show you off
Or she’d be connected to your hip, fingers intertwined with yours, a hand wrapped around your waist
Regardless, she would be glued to your side all night, not because she’s clingy because she wanted to make sure you were okay
And at the end of the night the two of you would cuddle in bed together and you would continually congratulate her on the movie and remind her how proud you are of everything’s she accomplished
“You’re so talented you know that?’
“I thought I was suppose to be the mushy one babe.”
“Well you deserve a night off.”
“Thanks.” She chuckles shaking her head at you.
“….I love you.”
“I love you too.”
FRIENDS
WE MUST TALK ABOUT TOM
BECAUSE HE IS YOUR GUYS’ COUPLE FRIEND
You of course met him whilst Zendaya was working on SP:HC and instantly the three of you built a bond
it might’ve been due to the fact that you were such a big spiderman fan and begged your girlfriend to hang out with him but hey who knows right??
(you honestly just wanted to see the suit. Tom Holland who??)
Over the course of the months of working on the movie it soon became impossible to separate the three of you
You were either
messing around on set (when you were suppose to be at school actually but who cares about education)
going out to eat (and the boy could eat)
and predominantly hanging out at Your’s and Zendaya’s house
Zendaya made sure to teach the boy a couple of dance moves that she had already taught you
to which there would be video evidence of
SLEEPOVERS

The love doctors of Thirst Aid Kit on why it’s important for women to lust out loud

Bestcasts asks podcasters to discuss the three most memorable episodes of their podcast. For more podcast coverage, see Podmass, The A.V. Club’s weekly roundup of the best ’casts out there.
The podcasters: Journalist Bim Adewunmi and writer Nichole Perkins decided in mid-2017 to launch a podcast series dedicated to female thirst—one where so-called “thirst buckets” could enthusiastically and unabashedly gush about the gorgeous celebrities they desire, from A-listers to up-and-comers. Beyond being heaps of fun to listen to, Thirst Aid Kit has a mission and a philosophy much more fully realized than that of the average podcast: to give women a space to perform their thirst and “lust out loud.” To that end, each episode culminates in host-written “drabbles”—romantic fan fiction about the dreamboat du jour—to which Adewunmi and Perkins bring the whole of their professional creativity. Giggle-inducing and surprisingly moving, Thirst Aid Kit has been an essential addition to the BuzzFeed network of podcasts, and is only setting its sights higher into 2019, for as its wise hosts have taught us, there is never a shortage of baes over which to salivate.
Season 1, Episode 3: John Cho For President
The A.V. Club: Why did you choose this episode?
Nichole Perkins: John Cho, at the time, was  flying under the radar a little bit. But every time we saw him, we’d say, “Oh my gosh, he’s so amazing, he’s so hot.” We really wanted to give him some shine. We see you—not just because you’re beautiful, but because we see what you’re doing on and off screen, and we want to amplify that. That’s where we really found our audience, with that episode. We had such a strong reaction: people were like, “Finally, someone is talking about John Cho!” Before that, there was the #StarringJohnCho hashtag, which was another effort to amplify what could be, with John Cho and with Asian American representation in film and TV. We wanted to make sure that he gets that recognition. We see you, we honor you, and, hey, we love you.
Bim Adewunmi: He was our third episode. We joke that we have two patron saints for the show. The first is Keanu Reeves, and his is the episode we recorded as a pilot, because we felt so strongly. But John Cho is a very close second, and we love him. We’re two black women talking about desire in popular culture; we understand that sometimes, even if you’re the most qualified person in the room, you don’t often get the chance to have your own platform. John Cho is a perfect example. We felt a kinship with this idea of, “I’m amazing. Why don’t enough of the people who have the power to [make things happen], why can’t they see it?” John has been around forever, plugging away for so long doing all sorts of stuff. He’s run the gamut from drama to comedy to stoner comedy. He’s incredibly versatile, but often doesn’t even get recognized for that. We want to honor the fact that you have been plugging away, doing valuable work on screen and off.
NP: And the range of love interests he’s had on screen have been diverse. White women, black women, men—here’s somebody that’s just out there doing his work, and he should be recognized for it.
BA: He’s hitting all these audiences, meeting them at the point of their identity, and he’s doing it with ease. He’s very, very good. We can always strive to have more John Cho. That truly should be a goal for Hollywood in 2019: more John Cho forever. Our [episode] is a drop in the bucket to push it that way.
NP: My drabble in that episode is my favorite for all the episodes that we’ve done.
BA: Great drabble.
NP: Thank you. I love it because it really speaks to my romance novel background. I love romances, and our audience responded very well to it—and there’s no sex in it at all. A lot of times people lump what we do in with erotica. There’s not necessarily sex in the drabbles that we write. We’re trying to let people see that fanfic romance is not a bad thing. It’s not something you have to laugh at; it’s not a joke. Just because women have these fantasies about wanting someone to be sweet to them, that’s not a bad thing. It shouldn’t be downplayed. That’s what we’re looking at with the drabbles: combining our love for fanfic and romance, and recognizing that what we do is work, and it should be respected.
Just because women have these fantasies about wanting someone to be sweet to them, that’s not a bad thing.
BA: I think of the drabble as creating a mood, and Nichole’s drabble that week was very specifically creating this feeling of swooning, because that’s how John Cho makes us feel. He’s such an underrated romantic performer, so this was a real, writ large, capital-R romance. I bear no ill will toward her for winning [the audience’s “best drabble” vote] that week. It’s yours! It’s a good drabble!
AVC: Do you have a set process for writing drabbles?
BA: For me, it’s the first feeling. When I think about Andrew Lincoln, what do I think? Oh, that’s right—he’s wearing a really nice, soft shirt and he’s washing dishes. That’s my first feeling, so I tend to write what I feel. Sometimes the actor’s performances over the years will nudge you, and you say, “Ooh, I want to explore this thing that I saw in this movie that he did,” and that will tell its own story. But I never sit down and go, “I did a domestic [fantasy] last week, so this has to be outdoors.” It sounds very wanky, but it’s basically: How do I feel about this person? Okay, now write out that feeling.
NP: That’s the same for me. Like, Tom Hiddleston. I want to hurt him in a consensual way. [Laughs.] Whatever feeling comes over me, from the first time I saw this person to interviews that he’s done where you can see his personality a little bit, so you can see what he’d be into—all of that works together. Again, it’s our research into these people, whether we know it’s research at the time. “Oh wow, here’s somebody. Let me Google everything about him.”
BA: “Why do I like him in this clip? What’s he doing here that I like?” A lot of the time, there’s a bit of an awakening as you’re writing. The starting point for all of our drabbles, and all of our episodes, is, “Do we both fancy them?” It’s never a case of one person fancies them, and the other doesn’t. It has to be mutual. That’s our basic, entry-level requirement. Do we both fancy this person? Great. But in general, when we’re writing the drabbles, most fanfic is projection anyway. So we are projecting a good amount of personality onto these people.
Plus, as much as we “know” these people, we don’t know them. When we first started thinking about how we were going to structure the show, we knew we wanted to include fanfic. But for me personally, I hate when people ’ship real people. It always feels a little bit like, “Eh, that’s dodgy territory.” So, how do we make it clear that we’re not writing about the people, per se, but we’re writing about our projections of what they might be like? That gives us quite a bit of room to imagine.
Nichole in particular has very inventive locations. A lot of the time, mine are just about being at home watching TV with whoever. And Nichole’s like, “Now we’re on a picnic!” It’s also about making sure that we’re being respectful to the person, especially if they have a partner. We did [an episode about Mahershala Ali], someone who doesn’t do explicit love scenes, doesn’t get naked. So in writing a drabble for that, in the back of your mind, you’re like, “Well, he doesn’t do this on film, so I’m not really going to put us in a situation where I’m straddling him.” So there’s a lot of considerations as you’re writing.
NP: With John Cho, I was like, he’s not getting these romantic roles, and he’s so smooth. He’s so witty and charming in his interviews. He would be an incredible person to just talk to, and smooth away whatever issues or insecurities you may be having. So I wanted him to do something sweet. And in the Chris Evans episode, we had done an interview with him, and we felt uncomfortable writing drabbles where we were in super intimate situations.
BA: Sexually intimate.
NP: We just tried to move outside of that, and give him something that, if he were to listen to the episode, he wouldn’t be like, “Oh, these girls are creeps.”
Season 1, Episode 12: Chris Evans (feat. Chris Evans)
AVC: On this episode, you’re sort of through the looking glass. Chris Evans is actually present in the episode. Was that terrifying or exciting?
NP: Yes, to all of that. [Laughs.] We always knew we wanted to have our season finale be Chris Evans, whether we got him in an interview or not. That was partly because, for me, there was an evolution of thirst, so to speak. When he first came on the scene, I was like, “Oh, okay, he’s a handsome guy.” But he was handsome in this very familiar way that, quite frankly, I was bored with. He was very American Pie. This blond, blue-eyed guy playing jocks all the time. I’ve seen that so much. But once he started to open up and talk about his own battles with depression and anxiety, I felt connected to him because of my own struggles with those issues. So I was like, “Oh, he’s actually a human being.” Which sounds terrible, but for so long you only see what you’re allowed to see. For him to break down a little bit and show us more of himself, I felt drawn to him. As his career went on and you could see the evolution of his career, his acting ability, and the projects he chose, I thought, this actually is someone I could see myself enjoying as a thirst object.
BA: I’ve always fancied Chris Evans. I’m very basic. I was like, “Oh, he’s handsome! That’ll do.” So I already had such a tenderness toward him. I wrote a profile on him a couple of years back and he followed me on Twitter as a consequence, which I took to mean I must have nailed it. It was done with no access to him; I wrote this very much from my understanding of his personality and his performances over the years. My feeling was, if I had got it grossly wrong, he would’ve said, “I don’t know what that piece was about, but it wasn’t me.” But instead, he followed me, and I thought, “Oh, maybe he’s a normal person who follows people on Twitter.” So we knew that we wanted that to be the final episode. For me, this is one of my top thirsts of my life. He’s a crush I’ve had from a distance for such a long time that it made sense to me, and for Nichole, it was a journey to fancying him. So that seemed like a perfect way to end the season.
We went about trying to get him on the show, and we were shocked when he said yes. Not only is it Chris Evans, but also it was the middle of filming for the Avengers movie, so he was busy. We’d resigned ourselves, but we said, we’ll just put the request out there. If it’s a no, then no worries. The key thing is that we asked. And then instead he was like, “Yep, I’ll do it!” So that was a real treat. And he was in fact the most professional—he called us, obviously. I don’t think he gives his number to everyone, which is a shame, because I would’ve blown up his phone.
NP: Me too!
BA: He was incredibly accommodating, asked us how much time we needed, and he gave us the time that we requested. And he was open. Part of me had assumed he was going to be a little bit closed off, kind of general and gentle. But instead, he was incredibly open, almost tender. I was like, bro, don’t tell us this much! But he spoke about vulnerability, being scared about his Broadway debut, his insecurities as a teen, who his role models were for masculinity—the whole thing just came together and felt very serendipitous. He was just the best guest to have.
And we loved the surprise of it. The listeners of the show like us talking about stuff almost as an abstract endeavor—we’re talking about this person that we all “know,” but don’t really know. And in this case, we were like, “Here’s our thoughts and our feelings, but also, let’s hear from the thirst object himself!” Which felt like a real reversal. The key of this podcast is not to talk to the people we fancy. It’s to talk about why we fancy them and how we fancy them, and bring people into this fellowship. What is fancying? What is thirst? How do we perform it? So to have him in the room, so to speak, changed the way the show was built, just for one episode. We do so much projecting—let’s see what one of the projected-upon is actually thinking or feeling. And he was great for that.
NP: Women celebrities get asked so much: “What’s your beauty routine? What do you do to work out? How do you stay looking the way that you look?” And men don’t often get that. For us to have [Chris Evans] acknowledge that he knows he looks good—you have to know this; talk about that—was a little different. Male celebrities don’t get asked that a lot. It’s just expected that, okay, you’re handsome, go about your business. Whereas with women, it’s, “How did you get to this point?” Those things are broken down so much for women. To ask a guy these things was very important.
BA: “What do you use on your beard?” And the answer is: Nothing. It’s just beautiful.
NP: And they should get the same kind of questions! Like, “What are you doing to look so good?”
BA: He was very open about it. It’s tough on his body, putting it through all that stuff to be Captain America. He said, “I’m looking forward to not going to the gym so much.” A moment of vulnerability. The listeners’ feedback was so strong and happy about how he spoke to us. A lot of the time, that’s what many of us are looking for: someone to be honest and say, “Yes, I look great, but it takes work.” Just an acknowledgement of the fact that, yes, I’m actually quite beautiful. It’s not an accident that I look this way and I have this job—the two things are very much intertwined, and I have to work at maintaining them so I can stay doing this job.
Also, I just really love the episode. Nichole and I were so happy and giggly. The joy just overflows as you listen to it.
The key of this podcast is not to talk to the people we fancy. It’s to talk about why we fancy them and how we fancy them, and bring people into this fellowship. What is fancying? What is thirst? How do we perform it?
NP: In terms of production, we had already recorded the main [segment], but we didn’t get a chance to talk to Chris until Wednesday, and the episode was coming out that Thursday. We had to rush and make the edits. We know our audience wants to hear every single thing that he had to say. We couldn’t make the episode that long.
BA: But we put the bulk of the interview in there, because he was so insightful. It was less about speaking to the general state of fancying, but just about himself and his own place in that particular hierarchy: that this man, who is literally called Captain America, so often embodies a very specific masculine ideal. What does that mean for the actor, but also for those of us who fancy him?
NP: It was a feat to get that episode out so quickly once we got the interview with him. And to see the reactions as people were refreshing their feeds, reaching for their phones—it was so awesome.
BA: People were like, “What? Chris? The real Chris?!” Yes, the real Chris Evans, thank you. And our title for that episode is “Chris Evans (feat. Chris Evans).”
AVC: It’s so subtle.
BA: That was our former producer, Eleanor Kagan. When we said we wanted to do this episode, she said, “I’ve already got the title!” Very triumphantly, she typed it out.
NP: Our feed goes live at 5 a.m. Thursdays. So I wake up and I’m looking at Twitter to see what’s happening. One person said, “I was brushing my teeth and I saw the episode and I almost spat my toothpaste out on the floor.”
BA: We have the best tweets for that episode.
Season 2, Episode 8: Ryan Coogler: Bay Area Bae
NP: One of the things we like to do with the podcast is to highlight people who most people may not know—you may know the name, but you don’t know what they look like. That’s part of the reason we chose Ryan Coogler. He’s normally behind the camera, so he’s not someone that you get to see all the time. Also, his work ethic, and what he does behind the camera, the people that he hires, it’s so important. Let’s not forget the people who might get overlooked.
BA: We don’t necessarily theme our seasons, but with season two, we definitely had names that were less famous than many of the names in season one. When we did the Oscar Isaac episode, a lot of people said, “Oh, I know that guy from GIFs, but I’ve never seen a film of his.” And we did an episode on the Golden Baes of Hollywood, hearkening back to a period that many of our listeners might not be familiar with, and that kind of thing. As Nichole said, he’s not someone who is often in front. He was also beginning to enjoy a big moment thanks to Black Panther. Still, not many people have seen his films, many of which were serious, independent movies. For us, it was a case of: Who is underrated? Who is genuinely worthy of our fancy?
That’s another thing: Of course we fancy the people physically, but we also have to have something to talk about. You can’t just spend 45 minutes going, “He’s so hot!” Which is nice, and great for us, but not something you could put out a podcast about. It was about finding the meaning of his work and himself, away from his obviously very beautiful physicality. That was a really fun challenge for us. He doesn’t have a massive film catalog, but each of the movies he’s done have been as close to masterpieces as you can get. Also, he’s this guy from Oakland who talks like he’s from Oakland. And a very small, but also very big thing: He’s married to a black woman, so, black love. That felt like something worth celebrating and pointing out. Look at this guy. He’s special.
NP: Also, even though he’s reasonably fit, he is not the Hollywood idea of what an attractive man should look like. He’s not super muscly, he’s not very tall. He has the teddy bear look; he’s so sweet and always so respectful with the people around him. We wanted to highlight that, and show that you don’t have to just like the tall beefcake. There are other physicalities out there that you can enjoy, and it’s okay.
BA: That came up with the Hiddleston episode, for example. He’s a lanky stream of piss, isn’t he? But that’s okay! Nichole has a very wonderful saying, because she enjoys—
NP: I like skinny men. [Laughs.]
BA: Yes. And Grant Gustin, who plays The Flash, she called him “a golden French fry of a man.” It’s an example of people who don’t necessarily fit into Hot Hollywood. And here’s [Coogler] who has this incredible visual mind, makes amazing, stunning films, and is so human when you read his interviews, and actively works with women and champions women’s work, putting all this stuff out there into the world in a climate where so many men are unequivocally trash. To have something to glom onto that is not trash feels like a victory for the ages. “Oh my god, this person appears not to be a complete dickhead. Wonderful.” You need it to survive.
NP: With the drabbles for that episode, we tried to respect the fact that he’s married. We went for sweet instead of sultry.
BA: That’s the persona. You want to match that.
NP: And I’m sure whatever his private life is, that’s [his own], but at the same time, we’re just like, “Wouldn’t it be great to have a baby with Ryan Coogler?”
BA: He’d be invested in your interests—do you see the projection here? “My god, I bet he makes great waffles.” Based on nothing at all. You just have this idea.
To have something to glom onto that is not trash feels like a victory for the ages. “Oh my god, this person appears not to be a complete dickhead. Wonderful.”
AVC: What goals do you have for the podcast going forward?
NP: We’ve been doing Thirsty Movie Nights, where we invite our audience to come watch some movies with us and be loud and rowdy, and lust out loud at the screen. It’s like a big slumber party.
BA: So far we’ve done them all in New York, but I’d love to take it on the road. We want to do these things all over the place. Our inbox is full every single day—people will send their own drabbles, or sometimes people just want to tell us they fancy someone at work. Things that we cannot feature on the show.
AVC: Like you’re the high priestesses of thirst.
NP: We’re the love doctors!
BA: People bring us confessions and stuff, and it’s like, all right, go in peace, my child. Happy thirsting. It’s remarkable. It sounds really cheesy, but it does feel like this sisterhood of thirst. It’s not just women, but it’s mostly women, many of them women of color, many of them black women—and that really warms my heart. My hope would be that they find something in every episode, even if they don’t fancy the thirst object of the week. There’s just a bit of release and relief in listening to something that is so unabashedly joyful.
We’re not Breaking Bad—we haven’t got the brooding antihero at the core of our story. Instead, it’s, “Hey, we fancy people. Let’s talk about that!” I want to stay in the zone of joy, and I don’t want it to ever feel like a chore. My hope would be that we continue to love what we do, because we really love it. And it’s great working with Nichole, who is just so filthy and so funny. Every week she says something that scandalizes me as if I don’t know her. It works, and I think the audience really enjoys hearing us play off one another, because it’s genuine. I want that to go on for as long as possible.
NP: Someone tweeted that, at the heart of the show, it’s about friendship. I think that’s important, because Bim and I genuinely like each other. We were not put together by someone who said, “Bim and Nichole, just partner up on this.” This was from our own interactions, and it’s still going. The thirsting does not stop. If we are awake, we are texting each other something. I’ll wake up to a message from Bim like, “Did you see this?” and I’m like, “No—but did you see this?”
As far as growth, we’re open to whatever can happen from here. A lot of people want us to put our drabbles into some kind of book for purchase.
BA: A whole collection of them. Publishers, if you are interested, Nichole and I will write drabbles. We will do it.
There is value in asking the questions that these men are not asked. It leaves a void of knowledge, and we could help fill that.
NP: At our first movie night, which was Magic Mike XXL, this one woman was crying with her friend. She said, “It’s just so beautiful to be in this environment, in this safe space, and hoot and holler at the screen with this community.” I loved that, it was so moving.
BA: People were throwing their fake dollars at the screen. At that point, I looked around, and I was like, wow, I’m so lucky. What a way to spend a weekday evening—in the company of strangers in the dark, eating food and hollering at Channing Tatum’s neck. This is why I went to journalism school. It felt good.
NP: I like doing the interviews, and I think it’s important that we remain respectful of the people we’re talking to. We don’t ask about their personal lives. We don’t ask if they have a girlfriend. We don’t hit on them.
BA: People ask after each interview, “How did you hold it together?” Yeah, we fancy people—we’re human—but we’re also professionals. We’re journalists, we’re reporters, we’re writers. Just as we don’t yell obscenities at handsome men on the street, we wouldn’t do that to someone who had trusted us and come into the studio to talk about themselves. I hope that the fact that we’re so clear about our intentions, that we’re not here to get gossip, has meant that people are more open to coming on the show. We’re asking intelligent, insightful questions, and we are looking for them to answer in a similar fashion.
For so many of us, we haven’t really broken down the building blocks of desire. It’s never as simple as people think. So my hope would be that we get to talk to more of the thirst objects as they come up, because I do think there is value in asking the questions that these men are not asked. It leaves a void of knowledge, and we could help fill that.
People don’t need our permission to like who they like. Just apply the enthusiasm that we have, and go about your business.
NP: When we first started out, we got a little criticism. “If men were doing this, would it be sexist?” I responded that men would not examine why they find these people attractive. It would just be about a bunch of T&A.
BA: Historically, anyway. We’ve seen how men talk about women a lot of the time in the public sphere, and I don’t think it’s ever been this respectful or careful. It’s not just us salivating wildly. I mean, that happens. But we have discussions.
NP: We also look at what happens when these men mess up, and have to get back on track. We’re looking now at the idea in pop culture of men and redemption, and what that looks like. But we want to be a source of joy for people. We want to acknowledge the missteps, but we also want to recognize when they’ve corrected and are doing the work to prove themselves better people.
BA: The ethos of Thirst Aid Kit, as it stands, is to talk about desire. We’re not here to tell you that one fancy is wrong.
NP: People don’t need our permission to like who they like. Just apply the enthusiasm that we have, and go about your business.
BA: Lust out loud. It’s good for your soul.
AVC: What good life advice.
BA: Just call us Oprah.
