update on how things are going:

- Roommate is waffling on whether or not he actually wants to move out with us. he’s apparently looking into one-room apartments so he’s at least interested in that, but me and my brother have warned him, on completely seperate occassions, that THIS is a really, really bad idea, with how rent prices in Arizona keep skyrocketing, that between the three of us we’ve BARELY managed to keep the rent on a single two bed apartment for a few years, and more often than not even when all of us had plenty of money to offer we broke even at best, and he’s almost likely to not do very well with that. he still insists on ‘wanting an adventure’ and is probably going to move out. it also doesn’t help that even though the original deal was for us to share a roughly equal portion of the rent, and its been close to nearly 2k annually, he’s still actively tried to avoid paying more than a bare minimum of MAYBE 200$ a month, and anything more than that he’s constantly played off as doing US a huge favor. he’s been with us since we moved in, but in the two years or so since he’s only paid his full portion maybe... twice, at best

- this is even more aggravating given that, when we first had a place together, he made me and my brother pay all the money we had, refuse to buy us any food, and while he constantly ordered out every single night he would give really condescending lectures about how we needed to SAVE MORE MONEY and SPEND LESS, when the point was... we barely had any money to begin with.

- in terms of eviction stuff, well, we went past the point of no return a few days ago, but still haven’t received any paperwork. its an important part of things since that gives us the timeframe we have left to work in, so I’m waiting on that. the curious thing is that they’ve dressed multiple times that they have to get it before the 12th, because as soon as that hits they start filing the paperwork, but we haven’t recieved anything yet. I SUPPOSE its possible some neighbor might have stolen it just because (i don’t know why, but i wouldn’t rule it out entirely) but management at the current place prefers e-mail for most things so one of us would have received a message by now. so i’m still waiting on that!

- some good news; my brother was talking with the guy we’re supposed to move in with next month, looking for advice or suggestions on what we can do, and he says that we might have more time than we thought; apparently after we are probably evicted, we have 30 days before they can force us to leave, legally, and if so this takes all the pressure off things because then we can just... hang out here until then and not have to lose our stuff! it still remains to be seen if we can actually do that, but i’m feeling more optimistic about things than I was.

(An important lesson here is that management and landlords of all kinds will try to bullshit you and intimidate you into doing what they want, and a big part of what they depend on is vulneralbe people not actually knowing the laws.)

- also since management has refused to do anything about air conditioning despite the heat spikes and refusing to even admit it ISN’T working, my brother has been told he has a real cast to put against them and get compensation for it; my brother doesn’t want to do it, though, because he thinks he’ll end up losing it and looking like a fool and he doesn’t want to deal with it. personally I get it. i feel that it might be better for us to just take our licks and get out of here as soon as we can with a minimum of fuss.

so all in all this means that we MIGHT have a lot more time than I thought; if so we can just ride out the rest of this month until it’s time for us to go move out. erven if its 3 people instead of 4, we can still split the costs of a house between us reasonably well, since it seems that kind of expense is about the same as what we’ve been having to pay here, which is the main reason we’ve wanted to move out

this also means expenses are much less of a problem than i thought; while anything anyone can send in is VERY much appreciated, not having to deal with things like the expenses of a hotel would be a lot easier to manage!

Our AC compressor seems to be broken, and we got back the estimates of $1.3k for termite treatments and $2k to repair the damages from said termites.

I don’t remember if I posted here and instead of going through my history I’ll summarize:

We kept hearing mice in our utility room and there were droppings so we tried every type of trap and bait and couldn’t catch them

Ken ripped out the insulation and discovered a giant hole in the side of our house that wasn’t visible from the outside and was covered by insulation on the inside, so that answers where the mice were coming from

After ripping out all the insulation Ken noticed what appeared to be insect damage so he called a bug guy who confirmed that it was termite damage but that there was no sign of active termites

So either the previous homeowner had the termites killed but didn’t fix the damage and it wasn’t a problem til now, or the same termite colony was infesting a neighboring townhouse and they killed the colony so our termites are gone but the damage is done. This part isn’t clear, but either way we’ve got termite damage but no active termites.

But for our peace of mind we want to do some preventative treatments because pls no more bugs eating our house, so we’re gonna have them do something ??? idk I hid upstairs with Theo while the bug guy talked to Ken

And then some contractor guy is gonna fix the damage so our house doesn’t fall down or something ??? again idk there’s clearly damage and it should be fixed so we don’t have more mice or whatever but i don’t know how big a deal it actually is

SO all that is to say that someone is gonna put stuff in our walls (? what even are termite treatments ?) and then someone else is gonna nail some extra wood on top of the messed up wood (the damage is small enough that instead of ripping out and replacing they’re gonna reinforce but leave the existing stuff) and all that is gonna run us a nice total of $3.3k. 

Plus whatever the fuck is happening with our compressor because hello it is july and we want cold air please.

On the bright side, it’s not my house? Idk I feel bad when Ken buys big house stuff (we had our roof repaired last fall and he paid for that) but also it’s not my asset... like, if we break up he keeps the house so it makes sense that he sinks his money into it. And if we get married and combine finances it also doesn’t matter who paid what, we collectively have the same amount. But emotionally it feels weird.

I mean I do pay rent and we split some house-related things, it just kinda depends. But things that are directly like “fix the house itself” are all on Kenny. 

I did decide last week that I wanted new cushions for the patio furniture so I dropped $500 on sprucing up our patio area, but that was also something that Ken did not give one shit about but I really wanted to make nice so I decided I was doing it. If I’d asked him he’d probably have split the cost. 

Idk why I’m sharing this except I’m feeling a little weird about money right now and here’s one piece of what it is like to be an adult living with a partner who is 15 years older and you have to both practically and emotionally deal with what money means to you both and how you want to navigate financial aspects of your life together.

My Insurance auto accident settlement?

I was recently in a car accident where a Nissan truck ran into the back of another car that then ran into the back of me causing $2000 worth of damage to the rear of my infiniti. I received moderate whiplash to my neck and had to be taken to the hospital. I checked out without any broken bones and was prescribed medication. I went to see a chiropractor and he has been working on my neck for a couple days which makes it feel a better. Im 100% not at fault and the insurance company has taken care of my car repair, rental, and medical bills. They ask me How much do I think I want for this accident for pain and suffering. I believe I am entitled to at least $3500-5000 for my suffering I live in NC. I believe $5000 is a reasonable consider the circumstances. I could have lost my life, broke my neck and been paralyzed for life. Thank the lord that I received only a whiplash. The stress that I am undergoing, the constant pain in my neck is a reminder of the accident, which I feel fearful of driving. The time I spent recovering could have been spent enjoying my life. Besides getting behind in my school work, I am absent from my student organization at school which I am a key figure ( president AGC). I don't enjoy waking up with cramps and headaches nor do I like to take prescription pills, and therapy. I don't want to be compensation a insufficient amount that wont even cover pain and suffering I went though. It seems like you people are on the side of the insurance company and not the victims in this situation. I wonder if any of you have ever been in an automobile accident and if you have must share some sort of empathy of what I am reiterating.""

So I recently got rear ended and the other party was at fault. I went to the appraiser that the all state agent had directed me to and had my car appraised. When I got my car appraised the appraiser wrote me a check then and there for the damages .
