There were far too many lovely little gestures in this one scene alone to capture in one gifset. So much of it felt like improv, as if these two were just snuggling and loving on each other, and we just happened to be there.

once again reminded of how much I love law at his stupidest because tell me why he’s such a nerd 😭 sanji puts on his raid suit and he’s like “it’s stealth black from the comics sora of the sea…next he’ll use his secret power to go invisible!!” and usopp, franky, and even fucking sanji (who is trying to fight) are like “buddy why the FUCK do you know that”

me and my labels lol but categorising abilities based on why they manifested the way they did 🤔🤔🤔

and i’m not tag vomiting about this one lol some notes:

trauma based abilities are what i think are purely a direct manifestation of the character’s trauma, like these mfs are wielding their personal damage lol

doppo i think is pretty obvious lol

we may not know the specifics i think in the ways the aohitsugis were abused by their patriarch, but samatoki taking damage for others and throwing it back at them could be a mimicking or projecting response. either way, directly related to his childhood trauma

hifumi is a biiiiit of a read on his character i think on my part, but he puppets characters around, almost like playthings and honobono treats ppl like playthings

honobono is me def making assumptions on honobono as a person lol. however, honobono wants to show the futility of bonds and relishes in the despair of seeing those bonds fail. her silencing ability doesn’t necessarily reflect that goal, even if used to make a point at hifumi. so i’m reading it as a trauma response tho i could see it being both goals and trauma based down the line lol

ramuda was originally going to be in the secret third choice lol but i think his speakers reflect his clone/creation character trait rather than his ability. his ability i believe comes from the fear of not being real and tangible, tho i am happy to hear if i’m wrong about that lol

goal based abilities!!!! so like any decently written character, character motivations tend to be a response to trauma/their pasts!!!!! but these abilities revolve around those goals made in response to their pasts, rather than being directly bc of said trauma

dice is hard for me to explain lol but the best i can say: the trauma is his rich upbringing and his goal is to move away from that life lol. being a gambler is his goal and that’s what his ability is lol

jyushi’s also really hard for me to explain but i also had a hard time placing him lol. jyushi’s ability is strange; between the manga and hypdream, jyushi’s ability does two different things lol, however bc his ability in hypdream lines up with the guidebook description for it, we’ll assume the manga is technically the odd one out lol. the ability to heal himself and unleash a powerful attack called courage tells me he’s gaining the courage to stand up for himself, which is a goal of his!!!! (and i think the manga’s depiction of the ability, where he watched kuukou take a hit for him and hitoya in part bc he was too weak to fight with them, is reflecting that part of courage, the meaning behind it rather than what it does)

juto, rosho and sasara are all the poster boys for this category lol; they experienced something traumatic that fuelled their life’s ambitions for a change, and that goal for change is what their ability reflects

tf we know about rio lol???? for now, i’m assuming rio became a soldier to protect the peace and his ability reflects that

a bit of both is basically the it’s complicated category LMAO:

like gentaro copied his brother’s identity to carry out his brother’s mission to destroy chuuoku lol. but he copied his brother’s identity to keep the memory of his brother moving forward with him. his trauma and goals are so intertwined i don’t think you can say his ability to copy is in response to just a goal or trauma

rei’s fraud, to manipulate a person at will, reflects his 3d chess mentality lol. there’s a lot of reasons for why rei operates the way he does and i don’t think we can really point to one factor as to why fraud is the way it is

jakurai’s would normally be just goal based, since he’s always wanted to heal, except jakurai’s desire to heal others has become so embroiled in his guilt and atonement towards his various traumas that again i don’t think you can pinpoint if it’s in response to a goal or trauma

hitoya i flipped around on lol bc it reflects his occupation!!! so goal based right??? but hitoya’s law is so murky lol he switched to being a lawyer for revenge but that couldn’t work out so he’s trying to make sure it doesn’t happen again but he follows money (as much as they don’t show that lol) hitoya himself is too gray i think that objection is a little spread out between hitoya’s various haunts and ambitions

thee FAWK we know about kuukou lmao. i can give a ton of reasons why his ability could be to seal abilities but we don’t know enough about kuukou to know why. based on what we’ve seen, he’s a monk for reasons that may be as simple as that it’s his birthright and the name meditation reflects that he is a monk. bc he’s a monk, he wants to guide the world but does sealing abilities have anything to do with that??? it could be an end to suffering metaphor, it could be barring abilities for a battle of pure words bc kuukou does, in fact, believe in using your words lmao. but if there’s something more to kuukou being a monk it could be a factor, again it’s complicated bc we don’t know enough (and i overthink lol)

and finally creation based and it’s exclusively bb bc their abilities reflect stuff rei has created LOL. rei is not the type of parent that calls his kids his creations, like touting he brought them into the world type mess, but somehow, the tech he’s created got reflected in bb’s abilities. however, a more accurate description might be hypnosis mic lore based abilities lol

ichiro seems to need his brothers to keep him steady in order to use his ability. ichiro’s never used his ability by himself so we don’t know if he can’t use his ability without help, but needing his team to use his ability is lowkey a true hypnosis mic parallel

jiro’s rally borrows the power of his teammates to send an attack, similar to how the true hypnosis mic needs the bond of three people to wield it

saburo deletes all attacks and abilities from the mics, like the hypnosis canceller (that rei didn’t create iirc lol. however rei did build in a kill switch for his tech so if you wanna squint to keep the rei’s creations angle—)

Ok, that officially marks the end of my Rescue Bots nostalgia trip. I'm still going to finish the show of course, but the introduction of new characters means I'm heading out to unknown waters because I don't remember seeing any of these guys before.

I'm guessing this means less screentime and focus episodes for my favs, though they did seem to run out of ideas for them anyway considering they went through like every kids show episode trope in the first half of season 3. And I do already like Salvage, so I still have something to look forward to

It feels weird to see new episodes from a tf show I liked as a kid. Last time this happened to me was discovering the existence of Predacons Rising during our initial TFP rewatch back in 2020 (the one that led to me joining the fandom in the first place)

To conclude, as a kid I saw

-almost the entirety of season 1, multiple times but somehow missing the first few episodes

-most of season 2

-the occasional season 3 episode

i think one of the great things about andreil is that there is no second guessing, like most obviously with regards to boundaries like if andrew said no to anything sexual or physical contact then neil takes that at face value and doesnt question why andrew says no if it was something he did wrong etc he just hears andrews no and goes okay the reason is none of my business and i will abide by the no, and of course this is vice versa for if neil said no to andrew

but also i think that can be applied in a broader way, there isnt really any insecurity in andreils relationship, theres a confidence in the way they move through their relationship and through the flirting and the connection, like neil doesnt wonder if he was out of line for saying something he doesnt worry about alienating andrew he just acts and when andrew sets boundaries he stops at them

and i think thats part of their appeal really, like were all anxious in our relationships but neil and andrew arent and we can step into their lives for a moment and have that confidence

while i continue to make procrastinate on my first meet comic with her and ford, i figured i could make a little somethin somethin about ford's first impressions. and who knows, if inspiration strikes i may make more (like when he first saw her without the helmet, learning about the arms, etc etc) cause tbh this was actually really fuckin fun to do!

i figured ford had to have kept some kind of journal while traveling the multiverse so this would have probably been after the first week of meeting the wayfinder

I get why people say Wyll/Karlach is enemies-to-lovers but it's missing too many of its signatures for me to agree

By nature, E-t-L's are slow burn. A good chunk of the story waits for one party to discover they're on the wrong side/both parties to realize they have more in common with each other than their factions, then a whole other chunk is dedicated to them learning how to trust each other. The higher the stakes in the story, the slower the burn

Yet everything between Wyll and Karlach is revealed and resolved in a single conversation. There are no lasting consequences of that initial animosity. Both are too good to hold grudges and all the fault lies firmly in hands not their own. Karlach trusts Wyll instantly and he her. Their friendship is so immediate that it's easy to forget that we met Karlach with the intent to kill her

And then there's the source of their quarrel. Wyll was led to believe Karlach's a devil seeking destruction and Karlach was just trying to go home. The thing that sets them against each other isn't their own beliefs or loyalties or anything deep seated and personal, it's the chain of command, something they're both eager to be rid of by the time we meet them. While it gives them something in common, it leaves them with nothing to unpack or overcome together

Compare that to the king of E-t-L's, Zutara of Avatar the Last Airbender. Zuko spent most of the show's runtime trying to capture the Avatar to guarantee the Fire Nation's total conquest, something Katara wants to prevent at all costs. When the two are stuck together by happenstance, they lash out at each other only to bond over their lost mothers. Then Zuko betrays her, something Katara does not forget and does not forgive until he proves himself much, much later. Afterwards, they support each other, watch over the others together, and make a damn good team against Azula. Perfect, should have been canon, fuck Bryke

Honestly, I think Wyllach is just Faerûn's version of a meet-cute
