Controversial opinion time, I don’t hate the idea of Tumblr Live. Like “hey I’m gonna go for a walk who wants to see the new flower buds”/“I’m gonna cook dinner and tell a story so I don’t feel like I’m cooking alone” seem fine to me, even appealing. But the Tiktok-ification and Instagram-ification of everything don’t sit right. And given how typically anonymous and faceless Tumblr is, a jump to “Live” feels pretty unnatural.

#i've been stuck scrolling instagram for the past few days #i don't even like being on there #modern ig is so overstimulating everything is either a reel or a reel in disguise or an image post that inexplicably has audio #i kept making myself go on there because i wanted to find a way to make art friends or a community or w/e #and i thought if i had more of a presence and interacted more i'd eventually get people to like. talk to me and comment stuff ig. idk #but ughhhh #i don't think insta is a good platform for that cause it's either pictures with a short caption or the worst media format known to man #like. idk i wanted to find and follow and be friends with and be Cool Artists (don't ask me to define that)#but no artist on instagram is a Cool Artist because there's no goddamn text on there #like if it makes sense i wanna find people who talk About art as well #but not in an art Discourse way #which is another thing. even if instagram had more Talking it would still be shit because the mainstream 'art community' is insufferable #art tiktok is that on steroids #and instagram is is bootleg tiktok #the same five discourse topics jokes memes advice whatever the only difference is now they're circlejerking about ai too #i wanna be Casual and Spontaenous and Mysterious and shit but IG's layout makes me feel like i can't just post whatever #i feel this pressure to give my posts all the same format and add tags and do this and do that and have good Branding or w/e #and it's just ughhh why can't I be a famous enigma (<- doesn't make or share anything)#even on tumblr the pressure is the same #and at the same time i hate looking back on my art accounts (both ig and here) because it just. doesn't align with what i wanna do #like my attempts at categorising and tagging and being consistent #it's just so. yuck #i want to have a Good Brand but i also want to be 'real' but then i look back at my disjointed messy past work and i cringe #i think i need to block my irls from my art accounts bc i feel super embarassed trying to do any typical Get Noticed on Social Media thing #cause it feels embarassing being seen doing shit that's ''influencer-y'' (idk what to call it)#cause it feels out of character to how i actually am in real life #but also why i do want to show my ''real'' character? honestlyyyy i lowkey need to burn down my smartphone

#so close to deleting all my social media apps. yes that does include tumblr.#but its like. ok i get info abt upcoming events in my area via instagram. ig i could delete facebook but i dont even use it that much #so like guess i could delete it but whats the point #tumblr is definitely eating up a ton of my time but also where would i be without it.#cannot delete it at least until i have my physical diary on me again #i also follow a bunch of journalists on insta but ig i could just keep up with their stuff over at like. the actual agencies they publish in #some of it is paywalled and i dont neccessarily respect the agency as a whole to give it money but. well cope i guess #ao3 is not a social media platform but i do spend an embarassing amount of time using it #and i know i could spend that time reading like. actual books. which i am lowkey struggling with!!#but like if im reading 40k word fanfics then it means i do have an attention span for reading long form fiction #its just that a story with a setting and characters im already familiar with is much easier to 'get into' than something totally new #and like i do know it cause once i got hooked on the witcher saga last summer i literally read all 5 novels within a few days!!#like the attention span IS there. its just that the - to put it in a nerdy way - activation energy feels much higher than it used to #like the hardest part is truly to start!!!#sooo like idk. might delete this godforsaken app starting oct 1st. probably would still log on via desktop #but limiting my tumblr screen time would be sooo good for me. and like im considering giving myself an alotted time for some stuff #like ao3 etc. this simply cannot continue.#thots

I hate that I feel guilty about unfollowing people on instagram for posting lefty slogan art.

I am not "overwhelmed" by pending tasks or replies as I used to be in the past anymore!! I did a lot of work on procrastination etc., so it isn't a matter of me being overwhelmed, I just want to take my time enjoying the interaction we had after 2 years. God, if Tumblr goes down for real I don't even know where I'll go. Twitter is an active dumpster fire, Instagram and TikTok are algorithm-riddled nightmares, and it's just plain depressing trying to pick one of the hundreds of alternative sites that are vying for the userbases of these massive social media platforms that have been hyper-monetized into their death throes

#lynx thinks #bluesky still requires an invitation and the other ones ive seen just havent been catching on the way other have #at this rate tiktok might outlast the others as far as influence goes and it's arguably the worst one #and i say this as someone who uses and posts to tiktok #a social media site with ONLY video on the platform is severely limiting. especially for visual artists like me #if you don't animate then your stuff is gonna have a hard time getting noticed in a video format #instagram is similarly limited in that you can only post images as the primary portion of the post #theres no option to just post text #and none of the tiny ones have the same reach as any of the larger ones did which is why no one joins #and because no one joins it doesnt have the userbase to give posts reach the way other sites did #social media is being rapidly killed by corporations trying to squeeze every cent possible out of their users #i want to stream and i want to gather a community of people who like what i do but HOW can i do that when there's no good website for it #it used to be you could just post your stream schedule to twitter and that was enough #i just... im so tired. it feels like ive had a stack of rugs pulled out from under me one at a time
