A nice thing this month was receiving the Illumicrate Exclusive editions of The Black Magician Trilogy by Trudi Canavan! They look so nice, and I love the author’s paintings. It’s a been a beloved series for me since 2004, and has warm fandom memories. I’m glad to have it in a fancier version. 🥰

A while ago, *I know* that there were sketches for TBM by Trudi Canavan herself. Like characters, buildings and so on. And now I can't find them! But I know that they must exist somewhere....
Please send help.

Just a question in the round. Are there people here who know the black magician guild trilogy? Because I'm about to write a story about Dannyl and Tayend.
...
Oh...being in a dead fandom.

Title: Warm Embrace Fandom: Black Magician Trilogy Pair: Lorlen / Sonea Summary: It was only when Sonea came into view that he found it easier to breathe—yet at the same time, the strain of his worry seemed to intensify. She halted before one of the staircases, struggling more to stay upright than to actually stand. Her breathing was labored, and she swayed on her feet as though she might collapse from exhaustion at any moment. Then, sensing his approach, she lifted her head, and her eyes, glassy with fatigue and pain, softened into a weary yet gentle smile at the sight of him.

I really love the BMT-Fandom over at ao3. Everyone is so grown up an nice and cheering everyone making you just feel good. Also all the new fanfic’s are so good! All these little details…
But maybe that’s the perk of writing in a Fandom that’s old and not to popular- everyone is grown up and the people sticking to it just have read the books so often they can’t write something OOC.
(After remembering how long it had been since I’ve read the books the first time I am now feeling old myself)

somehow Akemi has been guessed more than Jaina on the Akinator and Sonea more than either of them. That said I did beat it with Akkarin (before I tried Sonea) 🤣🤣🤣

Hello Black Magician Fans
Hey, I just wanted to let all 5 of you who are still in this fandom and haven't read my story yet know that I am currently writing an Alternate Universe Story set during the events of The High Lord on AO3.
It's a "what if" story about what would have happened if Sonea and Akkarin hadn't been sent into exile after Lord Jolen's murder. It's at ~30k words right now, updates every week on Friday and will probably be finished at ~50k. Also, there will be a sequel.
If you're interested, go check out Trust Me on AO3 and leave a comment if you want (or just read, whatever you prefer).

Nine People to Get to Know Better
Tagged by @allthestoriescantbelies ! <3
Three ships you like: I am leaving so many out! Making this easier by choosing a theme, which is Classic 2000s Ships - Buffy/Angel from their respective series (though mostly BtVS), Buffy/Tara, and Sonea/Akkarin from The Black Magician Trilogy/Kyralia books.
First ship ever: Usagi/Mamoru from Sailor Moon! Or, as I knew it in the brief time between watching the DiC dub and going online, Serena/Darien. That first season in particular was so good for their angst, the star-crossedness, and the whole being drawn to their alternate identities. And then the manga was angstier…
To this day it—and it’s show—have informed my fondness for moon myths and fantasy.
Last song you heard: labour by Paris Paloma Looked up the link to put here and now I’ve seen the music video too!
Favorite childhood book: I have fond memories of reading and rereading The Spellsong Cycle series by L. E. Modesitt Jr. there was also this book called, I think, Children’s Treasury, which had many Hans Christian Andersen fairy tales in abridged form; it lived in my paternal grandmother’s house for years until she let me keep it. I also loved this slim volume called something like 100 Best Poems, along with a thicker one of collected poems from various authors. I remember my favorite poems were by Yeats and Byron. Oh! And The Gods of the Greeks by Carl Kerényi; I particularly loved it for having a page or two dedicated to the moon goddess Selene, since at the time it was easier to find information on Artemis when looking up the Greek moon myths. Artemis (and Hecate) were also interesting, but, well, Sailor Moon fan here. (I’d read online that Princess Serenity and Endymion, the past lives of Usagi and Mamoru, took from the myth of Selene and Endymion.) This was around when I was reading and collecting the manga for the first time.
Currently reading: Rereading The Naming by Alison Croggon, first in the Pellinor series; also revisiting the Sookie Stackhouse books, but in audio form! I’m on Living Dead in Dallas.
Currently watching: Being Human, the UK version. Also The Apothecary Diaries!
Currently consuming: A muscle relaxant, water, and some passionfruit juice.
Currently craving: Cold milk! But there’s none.
Anyone who’d like to do this, feel free to @ me if you do!

so I finally got around to watching Shadow and Bone and I like it but also ... it's definitely been inspired by Trudi Canavan's Dark Magician series, right?

Not like I wanna be touchy but Black Magician Trilogy set a certain standard for me when it comes to famale protagonist fantasy with a dose of romance and tbh it ruined me as a reader for many other books because apparently I have standards and they're high?
And that makes me wonder why is that so and why BMT isn't that popular after all while there are bestselling books that are seemingly similar but so much worse? Which makes me realise that no, what's printed isn't actually the best, compared to beautiful ff I've read, it's just pure marketing combined with the fact that as readers we often choose easier content, pleasure over quality.
But I would love to be proven wrong, so if you have any book recommendations that beat BMT but aren't a completely different genre, please try me!
