Hello everyone I am so unbelievably pissed about the NaNoWriMo situation that i'm going to take my massive stack of writing and craft books and my English degree and channel all my rage into making an email newsletter to send craft-oriented writing prompts and tips during the month of November. Say No to NaNoWriMo, but yes to WriMo. You get it.

I'm not going to make this have the same goals as Nanowrimo-- I'm not reskinning it but less ableist, I just really think having a whole month where people focused on their work is pretty cool and I want to keep up that spirit. This is going to be informal and run by Just Me, though I'll make a discord server if it's clear there's interest. Direct questions to @nowrimomo , which I literally just made and so will look like a skeleton currently.

I'm going to include prompts from various professional sources with options for Fiction, Nonfiction, Poetry, and Fanfic, so everybody can get in on this. It doesn't matter what you write, but we should all Write More.

Would Gwen wear Miles' clothes though? They both have completely different styles of dressing. like Gwen is grunge and Miles is streetwear, why would she be borrowing his brightly colored hoodies or oversized parkas or branded sneakers

Like I know everyone adopted the headcanon because she's stealing Hobie's clothes in canon and it's a cute quirk of hers, but Hobie dresses like her. He wears stuff she'd wear

man i am real sick of people seeing any complaints/criticisms about an adaptation, and taking that as a personal attack on them if they liked it. Just bc people don't like the thing you do, doesn't mean they're being hostile, or gatekeeping, or mean.

They do not need to justify not enjoying something, or to shut up so you never have to see negativity. If you do not like seeing people have opinions that aren't your own, it's on you to block them, not on them to not post how they feel about the latest big thing in the fandom they've probably been in for years, possibly decades.

Does anyone else get frustrated by late stage capitalism's obsession with the monetization of free time?

Reading about the Tumblr layoffs last week and everyone madly backing up their blogs, I am wondering if it’s time to go back to an open source community platform like Dreamwidth. I have a very old blog there I haven’t used in a decade and always liked it; the only issue it ever had was low user numbers. But honestly, anything corporate owned is going down the tubes and has been for a while. Meta apps are dead to me because of AI and being owned by a fascist bigot, there was a good reason everyone made a mass exodus of LJ in the mid 2010s, and Discord is trying to go public, which is essentially the death knell for them remaining at all user-centric (things have already gotten worse lately as they prep).

Feels like it may be the time to start leaning heavily again into open-source and fandom-run communities that can’t be turned off or fucked up at the whim of some asshole CEO who wants to line their pockets with a few more dollars.

Plus, because of the internet’s rapid decline into corporate, capitalist suckage, I’ve found myself growing increasingly nostalgic about the olden days of the internet and online fandom (sites like Sugar Quill, WIKTT, Granger Enchanted, and old LJ). I may just act on that impulse.

(I’m on bluesky as well and it seems great but not as good of a platform for community building vs others imo.)

Is anyone else in HP fandom using dreamwidth still?

I forgot to ever share this here. i have been creating this spotify playlist of every song DK has mentioned liking/being inspired by/etc in interviews/etc (+ his own playlist!).

i add to it whenever i find new material as i continue ravenously trying to find every interpol interview in existence. so if you’re as mad about him as i am you’ll probably appreciate this playlist. that’s all
