Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion Side Story “BLACK ALBION”

Short story written by Koujirou (Sunrise) about Zerozaku sets in one year some time after Zero Requiem to accompany the introduction of Lancelot Albion Zero. Source: https://p-bandai.jp/tamashiiwebshouten/blackalbion/. Please inform me if you notice some mistake.

First year of Light Sum*. Some time have passed since the extraordinary hero, Zero, killed the last emperor of Holy Britannian Empire, Lelouch vi Britannia. The world that joined hands to defeat Emperor Lelouch who took hostage of the countries' leaders in his plan to conquer the world, continue to wish for peace and choose cooperation route even after Lelouch's death. With more than 80% of the world joins United Federation of Nations in the form of standing shoulder-to-shoulder with Japan and China that became the center of UFN’s formation during wartime, politics were practiced with global perspective. In addition to that, as the military power is transferred to and is operated by Black Knights as delegated by UFN, no large-scale conflict ever occurred, and the world peace was preserved. However... "We need a machine that acts as Zero's symbol." The one who suggested that was Schneizel el Britannia who serves as the Chief of Staff in UFN Supreme Council. The words of the man who's practically the world's No. 2, were not directed toward the President Sumeragi Kaguya, but to the masked man in black clothing, Zero. "....We don't." Zero asserts. Under the mask that exposed not even one part of his real face, his expression can't be read. Zero, who's present at the UFN Supreme Council meeting as CEO of Black Knights, shook his head in disagreement towards Schneizel's proposal. "However, no matter how the world as a whole is advancing toward peace, buds of conflicts will always arise. As a precaution, as Zero who slain Emperor Lelouch, you need to demonstrate your strength." Schneizel's words are reasonable. It's also clear that his words are for the sake of keeping peace. But, that's not it. The world must be peaceful. Otherwise, what did "he" bet his life for? Of course there are small seeds of conflicts. In this world that had been in war for a long time, it's natural that flames of conflicts can't be completely erased. It's natural because this world is inhabited by people who preserved their own self. Therefore, in order to prevent the conflicts from rising, it's probably a correct thing to do to assign the power to subdue conflicts to Zero the symbol. But for Zero, for Kururugi Suzaku who has now became Zero, it's not an idea he could accept that easily. "You're wrong. If Black Knights holds too much military power it would frighten the people and give birth to new conflicts instead. To the very end, we exists to maintain world peace. To that end, we're requesting the Glinda Knights to audit Black Knights." Oldrin Zevon, the head of Glinda Knights who is present at the meeting, nods in agreement. "...." Schneizel gives an "I give up" look. As Zero has said so, Schneizel can't go against his words.

"Welcome back, Zero." After finishing the UFN Supreme Council and returning to his room in Black Knights' headquarter, Zero was welcomed by Nunnally vi Britannia who came to meet him. "I'm back, Nunnally." Suzaku takes off his mask for the first time since awhile, and shows a smile. "Today you came to talk about the schedule for humanitarian visit to Spain next month, right?" "Yes, Suzaku-sa--, I mean, Zero, sorry I always ended up troubling you..." "Ha ha, now I'm just Suzaku, Nunnally." Among the few people who knows about Zero's identity, Nunnally especially can interact with Suzaku's true self. For Suzaku who has always carried the burden of being Zero, the time spent with Nunnally was extremely important. Nunnally who became the Honorary Consultant of World Humanitarian Organization, an auxiliary organization of UFN, visited the areas where scars of war still remained, and carried out humanitarian support activities. Suzaku as Zero has a lot of opportunity to be with Nunnally. Nunnally's coming to meet to Suzaku today too was to make arrangement for their next visit. But, with a sudden emergency call calling for Zero, that purpose was never realized. "Report from UFN Supreme Council! We’ve been informed that an armed group who declared themselves as Japan Revolutionary Army has occupied Shinagawa Seaside Airport." The smile that was on Suzaku's face till just now is gone, and his expression becomes dim. "Suzaku-san..." "It'll be okay, so don't worry. I'll be back soon." To the worried Nunnally, Suzaku shows her a smile. However, his heart is not calm. ...Zero doesn't need to have power. And yet.... Suzaku picks up his mask again and walks out from the room leaving Nunnally behind.

In Black Knights commander office, the main monitor shows the presumed state of Shinagawa Seaside Airport that was taken with a long distance camera. Other information such as the Knighmares that are used in the armed uprising and the list of people suspected to be responsible for the incident, were displayed on the sub monitors. "How's the situation?" The one who answers Zero's brief question as he entered the room is General Commander Toudou Kyoushiro. "Not very good. Konishina, report the present status to Zero." Prompted by Toudou, Konishina Ryou, the captain of Squadron 3 that was selected for duty, reports to Zero through the submonitor. The armed group called Japan Revolutionary Army, with about 30 Knightmares from sky, land, and water, swiftly gained total control of Shinagawa Seaside Airport that was built on a reclamation area in Tokyo Bay. It's reported that about 4000 passengers and staffs were held hostage. "It happened an hour ago. They seem to target the blind spot of UFN Supreme Council." "How about the perpetrators’ identity?" "It's Major Bandou... no, it's Bandou Shin. A survivor from the former Japan Liberation Front." "!?" Toudou's words agitate Zero slightly. Bandou is Suzaku’s acquaintance who once taught him martial arts together with Toudou and the others back when he was still a kid before the war with Britannia started. "Why, Bandou-san... right when everyone is about to compromise and head towards peace..." Konishina grinds his teeth. "Konishina was a new recruit assigned to Bandou's troop back during Britannia's invasion 9 years ago," Toudou fills up Suzaku's conjecture. He understood that it's because Japan Revolutionary Army turned out to be the remnant of Japan Liberation Front, that Toudou assigned Konishina to be in charge of the matter. "Japan Revolutionary Army led by Bandou, in regard to Zero eliminating Kusakabe Josui's group, raises a banner of rebellion. Zero, now it’s..." "I know, Toudou-san." From inside Suzaku's chest, an emotion that can't be expressed in words rises its head. However, his top priority is to secure the safety of the 4000 captured people as soon as possible. "I’d like to join UFN Supreme Council. This case will be handled by Black Knights." "I knew you would say so~" At the corner of Black Knights' headquarters hangar that's in preparation for sortie, a familiar machine was brought in by Rakshata. Lying on top of the equipment container, with the tobacco pipe in her hand, she points to Zero's line of sight. It's unthinkable that she's a person with many titles. "A black... Lancelot Albion." Zero shows a little bewilderment. "It's part of Joint Strike Armored Cavalry Program that had been worked on since the time of Emperor Lelouch's rule. Because we also needed to develop and conduct research on Knightmares made by Britannia, our Pearl Party was created." The one who answers his confusion is a dark skin woman with prosthetic legs, Neha Shankar. She's a researcher apprentice who participated in the decisive battle of Madrid in the past and is studying under Rakshata. "Based on the data left by Dr Lloyd, with little improvements, we managed to complete it. In term of performance it's equal to Guren Seiten Eight Elements." Explains Kagari Savitri who's transferred from Black Knights' engineering department to the Pearl Party. Good handiness, almost as if they had been preparing for this. Suzaku thinks that perhaps Schneizel had asked Rakshata in advance in anticipation for situations like this. Otherwise, the unit that bears the name Albion which means white, wouldn't be dyed in black. "I got it. Let me use this." He can't believe it, he never thought that he would ride this unit again now that he became Zero. "Please take good care of our cute Z-01Z0." "Zero... Zero, huh." As he hears the model number of the black Albion, Zero mutters to himself. "Understood. From here, I'll sortie with this Albion Zero!"

VIZ Reveals the Dub Cast of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind

VIZ is preparing to release a dub of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind, and six of its leads have been announced for your perusal.

The announcement was made today at New York Comic Con, and followed on the company's official Twitter shortly after. Leading the cast of the dub will be:

Bruno Bucciarati: Ray Chase (Piccolo in Dragon Ball Super)

[Trans] Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion Re; Ch04

Anon didn't come back yet so I went ahead with my translation (sorry anon). Anyway, I just realize that the writing credit for this manga goes to ‘Taniguchi Kōjirō (Sunrise)’. He’s a Sunrise producer who’s also in charge of managing Code Geass official twitter account.

Year 2018 a.t.b. The newly crowned Emperor Lelouch vi Britannia destroyed the world’s former superpower, Britannia, from its root. It seems as though he put an end to Britannia’s history that had lasted for 98 generations. He denied Britannia’s feats and deeds, turned it into a blank sheet, and appeared to create a new Britannia. Thus it puzzles the world and the people.

What is Lelouch’s aim? How will the new Britannia come face-to-face with the world? No one has the way to figure it out. For now, they can only watch the fate of this world that has been divided in two. Apart from Lelouch’s Britannia, the world starts to move.

-For whose sake the world is....-

Suzaku: There will be battle soon! Don’t slack off on the preparation!

Lloyd: Is this really okay? Cecile: What is? Lloyd: Hm, well...

Lloyd: Neither His Highness Schneizel nor Her Highness Cornellia is here. Is this really Holy Empire of Britannia? Cecile: You have a point. Also, knowing what Suzaku-kun and His Majesty are trying to do.... it makes me wonder how we became a part of this without realizing.

Cecile: Speaking of which, did you know? Lloyd: About what? Cecile: His Majesty and Suzaku-kun attended the same school. Lloyd: Ooh, Milly and Nina’s school? Cecile: Yes, Ashford Academy. Lloyd: I wonder what they were talking with each other.

Suzaku: I never thought I would ever see that sign in this place. Lelouch: “Let’s talk in the attic”.... It’s sure been awhile.

Lelouch: Though compare to that storehouse’s attic or the school’s rooftop, this is a really large attic. Suzaku, likely soon, Knights of Round will come to challenge us. They used to be your friends... will you be able to fight them? Suzaku: Of course. Lelouch: Again... you will leave a bad name behind.

Suzaku: That applies to you too. Emperor Lelouch marked his name in history as soon as he’s crowned. You destroyed Britannia’s culture after all. Lelouch: It’s only the beginning. From here on I will spill a lot of bloods, to the extent the name of Princess Massacre fades and disappears from people’s mind. Suzaku: Lelouch, you are...

Suzaku: That’s right... we both lost something important. Euphemia li Britannia, Lelouch’s half sister as well as the third princess of Britannia. She’s gentle, wise, aiming for a world without discrimination... My precious person. Our meeting was sudden.

Suzaku: At first I didn’t know she’s a member of royal family. Euphy: Put down your weapons! I’m Britannia’s 3rd Imperial Princess, Euphemia li Britannia!

Suzaku: Being someone in that kind of position, she taught me important things. Euphy: Since you’re 17 years old, do go to school. Suzaku: When I was chosen to be her full-fledged knight too.

Suzaku: She opened the door for me who wanted to die. Euphy: Love me! As an exchange, I will love you! Your stubbornness, your gentleness, your sorrowful eyes, your clumsiness, even the part of you that gets bitten by cats, all of them, Suzaku! That’s why don’t hate yourself!

Suzaku: That’s why I... wanted to be Euphy’s strength. Euphy: Will you lend me a hand? Suzaku: Yes, Your Highness.

Suzaku: Euphy abandoned her title as a Britannia princess, created Special Administrative Zone in Japan that was under Britannia's control, and aimed for Japanese liberation. But Lelouch’s geass went out of control and ended her everything.

Suzaku: “Kill the Japanese.” Euphy who was under the influence of geass, took the life of the Japanese who gathered for SAZ ceremony one after another. Thus gave her the name “Princess Massacre”.

Suzaku: And then... Lelouch took Euphy’s life with his own hand.

Suzaku: The life of hers who’s very important to Lelouch.... the life of someone irreplaceable to me....

Suzaku: Now I know everything... that Lelouch was trying to take responsibility for his action. Besides, I also...

Suzaku: ...took the life of someone important.

Lelouch: Even so, for the sake of tomorrow, starting from conquering the world.... Hmph, putting it into words makes me want to laugh. C.C.: But, you’re going to do it right? You guys will...

Lelouch: Yeah. We will carry out Zero Requiem.

Suzaku: Euphy, what would you say if you saw us being like this? Would you put a lonely expression? Or would you affirm the path that we’ve decided on? No matter which it is, what we’re doing is not for nothing. To succeed tomorrow, and to win today.

Suzaku: Yes Your Majesty.

When the horizon is stained with blood and everything is changed The contract between the devil and the witch does not change.

The supernatural that grant the power of king GEASS. An immortal who will resuscitate even if her head is shot by a bullet - that is C.C..

Lelouch doesn’t know who C.C. is and where she comes from. Even though she has an appearance of a human, it’s uncertain whether she is part of mankind. While keeping a human appearance, she uses magical power upon others. In medieval Europe such being was called “witch”, and being feared of. The fear of unknown existence soon converted into aversion. It’s not hard to imagine that in the past years she has been exposed to people’s hatred and persecution.

That’s why she is happy. The unexpected word of gratitude from Lelouch. Even though it’s clumsy, but that’s precisely why his sincere feelings are conveyed. She wants Lelouch to call her “true name”. “C.C” is just a code name. “Witch” is also not C.C.’s name. “Only a human”, at the time when her tears are able to flow just like an ordinary girl, her “true name” is...

What’s with that woman! I thought her head was shot with a gun, but she was actually still alive. Rudely turned up at someone’s house and lived there. Saying unnecessary things to Nunnally... She’s selfish, doesn’t listen to what other has to say, untidy, changes clothes in front of people, wanders around the school as she please. Why does she always eat pizza anyway? And she pays for them with my card! I'm reaching my limit!!! Also at the school festival some times ago, because the world's biggest pizza ended in a failure, she was in bad mood and haughtily said "Do it all over again!" Who does she think she is?! Sigh, there is no end talking about her bad points. Let's stop...

Well, I’m grateful. Thanks to this power she gave, Geass, my plan has been greatly ahead of schedule. She also saved my life. An indispensable existence... though her sense of clothes is the worst. This is no good... I’m not making any sense. At times like this should I order pizza to feel better?

A witch in a human body that hides loneliness.

'C.C.' is not a human-like name. It might be like a curse for her. No matter how deep her wounds are she would not die, an eternally young girl who cannot live in the same time as human. Every time her name is called, she’s reminded of how different she’s from human. Sometimes there are parts of C.C. that frowns upon her likeness to human. And yet she also tinkers with the kiss shared between Shirley and Lelouch. Such act is far from being ‘humane’. Perhaps the real C.C. is the one who drops tears of delight when Lelouch called her real name. Perhaps that’s why she embraces Lelouch who killed Euphemia and comforts him.

From now on, it’s unknown what fate awaits Lelouch and C.C. However, there is no doubt that C.C. is near Lelouch. And rather than the contract, it would be because of her heart...

When he signed a contract with the girl, the boy did not know anything. The girl's loneliness. The fate he should live. Every time he exercises the King's power, GEASS, that’s given by the girl. His sins piled up, his dreams lost, his future closed. Still, the boy burns to ambition. He can not turn back. Only the girl knows everything. Lelouch and C.C... Only two people in the world... When they’re only one step further from achieving their goal What hindered their path was his only best friend. And so the boy and the girl became accomplices of the past and solitude. Both the contract and the power of the king are different, each with its own intention. Even if that feeling is a transient one...

I’m ‘too kind’? What stupid words!

Who's the one being ‘too kind’ here?

C.C., when you first made contract with me, you didn’t reveal anything. I was afraid that I was nothing more than a tool to end your eternal life. But now I know your weakness that differs you from the nun, the Code bearer from your past; you are too kind. No matter where you go, even when your body is immortal, your heart is still that of human. Whenever you make a contract, at first you have no feelings for your contractor. However after spending some time together with them, you change. As your heart longs for love the most, the girl longing for love would appear. You become confused, and finally come to conclusion: as long as the contractor grows to hate you*, they would leave you on their own. This way, you wouldn’t have to assign the same pain to them as the nun did to you. How stupid. You are really an idiot. Then why make contract? Wouldn’t it be meaningless? How could you have feelings for the person you intended to use?

Here’s one thing I can tell you clearly.

"Don’t underestimate me, C.C.! Do you think I didn’t know your weakness? Do you think I fell for your cheap ploys? For being manipulated by you, do you think I would hate you?”

(then followed by "Don’t die while looking like that!” just like in the TV version.)

Deprived of the power of immortality and returned to be an ordinary woman.... Even though we made a contract that says we’ll be together forever, are you leaving me alone, C.C.? Though it certainly doesn’t feel bad to be called ‘Master’, but thinking about it now, folding the clothes you tossed wherever, paying for pizzas you ordered without permission, it actually never feels bad at all. Is that C.C. no longer coming back?

■ Excerpt from Code Geass Novel: R2 TURN-4. 2-Truth, continuation of their conversation in Lelouch’s room in Turn 23.

‘I do not want to lose this man.’ Thought C.C. without any hesitancy. There’s a way for her not to lose him. However, he wouldn’t want to use this method, and even she... did not want to. Then what should she do? C.C. hadn’t come to understand the way of the world, even when she had lived for who knows how many years she still didn’t understand, had no way of knowing what is right and what is wrong, but she was sure of one thing. That he, the man named Lelouch Lamperouge, would not stop running toward death. He chose this path on his own will. He’s like a horse that couldn’t be stopped. She wanted to blame him, but couldn’t... She wanted to cry, but couldn’t. So... "Lelouch." He said "Hm," in response. "Do you remember, that time in Narita?" When C.C. found Lelouch in Shinjuku, she gave him Geass to save him from a dire situation. To Lelouch who's devoted to fight for his desire and got intoxicated by the mighty power of Geass, C.C. declared, "You and I are accomplices." It is a self-defense measure born from her experience with Mao. Surprisingly, Lelouch kept respecting the position of an accomplice. C.C. was asked to act as his substitute or negotiator, but not even once she’s asked to act as his mother or lover. With Lelouch, C.C. learned the position of equal "partner" for the first time.

Lelouch who promised to make her wish comes true despite the unfair conditions, became a special existence for C.C. When C.C. was trying to protect him in exchange for her life, Lelouch hoped for her to live and repeatedly said "I will surely make you smile!". To answer his feelings, C.C. sealed her code and resisted Charles. She simply believed in Lelouch.

Her trust wasn’t betrayed. Even when she lost her memory, Lelouch's kindness to her didn’t change. Even when he was prepared to kill his beloved younger sister, he didn’t hold a grudge to her. Perhaps that is why C.C. is prepared to live for a long time. "Go quick, and then come back. You’re going to make me smile, right?" (*) In the novel, it’s explained that one of the reasons C.C. sent Lelouch into her memory (and not just him, but many of her past contractors) is to make them hate her by showing them that she would ultimately betray them just like the nun did her. That is, if they haven’t hated her yet for ruining their life by giving them Geass.

Accompanied by his knight Suzaku Kururugi who’s able to become a Knight of Round despite being an oppressed Number, Lelouch declared “Acknowledge me”...

C.C.: Feeling nostalgic?

C.C.: Lelouch. Lelouch: Not at all. Something like nostalgia, I no longer feel any of that. ...though I think it’s ironic. That Britannia that I hated so much, is now in this hand of mine.
