I haven’t really seen any of the more recent U.S. election news hitting tumblr yet so here’s some updates (now edited with sources added):
There’s evidence of Trump cheating and interfering with the election.
Possible Russian interference.
Mail-in ballots are not being counted or “recognized” in multiple (notably swing) states.
30+ bomb threats were called in and shut down polling stations on Election Day.
20+ million votes are still unaccounted for, and that’s just to have the same voter turnout as 2020.
There was record voter turnout and new/first-time voter registration this year. We definitely should be well over the turnout in 2020.
U.S. citizens are using this site to demand, not only a recount, but a complete investigation into election fraud and interference for the reasons stated above:

Here is what I submitted as an example:
An investigation for election interference and fraud is required. We desperately need a recount or even a revote. The American people deserve the right to a free and fair election. There has been evidence unveiled of Trump cheating and committing election fraud which is illegal. There is some evidence of possible Russian interference. At least 30+ bomb threats were called in to polling places. Multiple, notably swing states, have ballots unaccounted for and voting machines not registering votes. Ballots and ballot boxes were tampered with and burned. Over 20 million votes that we know of are unaccounted for. With record turnout and new voter registration this year, there should be no possibility that there are less votes than even in the 2020 election.
Sources (working on finding more links but if anyone wants to add info, it’s appreciated):
FBI addressing Russian interference and bomb threats:

Emails released by Rachael Bellis (private account, can’t share original tweet) confirming Trump committing election fraud:

Pennsylvania's Centre County officials say they are working with their ballot scanner vendor to figure out why the county's mail-in ballot data is "not being recognized when uploaded to the elections software:”

Wisconsin recount:
[ID:
Multiple screenshots and images.
The first is a screenshot with a link and information for contacting the White House directly regarding election fraud. The instructions include choosing to leave a comment to President Joe Biden directly and to select election security as the reason.
The screenshot then instructs people to include any or all of the following information in a paragraph as a comment to the president:
32 fake bomb threats were called into Democratic leaning poll places, rendering polling places closed for at least an hour.
A lot of people reporting their ballots were not counted for various reasons.
This all occurred in swing states.
This is too coincidental that these things happen and swing in his favor after months of hinting at foul play.
Directly state that an investigation for tampering, interference, fraud is required, not just a recount.
The second image is from the FBI Twitter account that reads:
The FBI is aware of bomb threats to polling locations in several states, many of which appear to originate from Russian email domains. None of the threats have been determined to be credible thus far. https://t.co/j3YfajVK1m — FBI (@FBI) November 5, 2024
The next four Gmail screenshots of an email sent to Rachael Bellis from Chris T. Spackman that read together as follows:
Dear BELLIS, RACHAEL E., The Dauphin County Board of Elections received a challenge to your absentee ballot you applied for in the November 5, 2024 General Election. The challenge argues that a provision of the Pennsylvania Election Code takes precedence over the federal Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act (UOCAVA), which requires states and counties to permit U.S. citizens who move overseas to vote by absentee ballot for federal offices based on their last U.S. residential address.
The full text of the challenge that was filed appears below this email.
You may respond to the challenge in any of the following ways:
1. Call the Bureau of Registration and Election at (717) 780-6360;
2. Email a statement to the Bureau at Election [email protected]. Any statement you submit regarding the period during which you lived in Dauphin County, any family or connections that you still have here, and why you are now residing abroad would be read into the record.
3. Appear in person at a Board of Elections hearing scheduled for Friday, November 8 at a time to be determined in the Commissioners Public Hearing Room, 4th floor of Dauphin County Administration Building, 2 S 20d St, Harrisburg, PA 17111. The meeting is also likely to be livestreamed on Facebook on the Dauphin County channel.
Sincerely,
Christopher T Spackman
TEXT OF CHALLENGE BEGINS
Dear Dauphin County Board of Elections,
I am submitting this challenge to an absentee ballot application pursuant to 25 Pa. Stat.
3146.8(f).
25 Pa. Stat. 3146.8(f) Any person challenging an application for an absentee ballot, an absentee ballot, an application for a mail-in ballot or a mail-in ballot for any of the reasons provided in this act shall deposit the sum of ten dollars ($10.00) in cash with the county board, which sum shall only be refunded if the challenge is sustained or if the challenge is withdrawn within five (5) days after the primary or election. If the challenge is dismissed by any lawful order then the deposit shall be forfeited. The county board shall deposit all deposit money in the general fund of the…
The rest of the forwarded email is cut off.
The last image is a screenshot of the official statement from the Centre County, Pennsylvania Board of Commissioners released on November 6, 2024 that states:
Centre County Working with Ballot Scanner Vendor to Export Election Results.
(Bellefonte, PA) -Centre County Elections Office is working continuously to provide mail-in ballot data in order to post unofficial results.
To this point, all ballots have been scanned, including all mail-in ballots.
Centre County's Election team and IT team have identified that the data are successfully being exported from the mail-in ballot scanners, but that the data is not being recognized when uploaded to the elections software.
Centre County's Administrator, John Franek, Jr. stated, "We have not stopped working, and we will continue to work until unofficial results are posted and reported to the Pennsylvania Department of State."
As a next step, Centre County has begun working with the equipment vendor to adjust configurations to make the two systems-the mail-in ballot scanner and the elections software where data are uploaded -compatible with one another.
We will provide updates as we make progress.

It's that time again ... time to install an IDE of June (NetBeans 22, released on 29 May) to replace the IDE of March (NetBeans 21, released on 24 Feb).

Hey so I've decided that, seeing as QuakeCon is upon us once again with the inevitable Quake 2 Remaster that is soon to be revealed, the event often happening during the Summer, and also the fact I've been on a big Quake kick lately, I've decided to declare August...
The Summer of id!
To mark the occasion, while there is the Quake 1 Remaster by Nightdive Studio that makes for a good jumping off point for new players who are unfamiliar with the legendary title, I also want to point towards an exciting new source port that released a couple months back that includes a whole slew of QOL improvements over even Quakespasm;
Ironwail!
To learn more, watch the video above, and while you're at it, check out the channel's other videos. It showcases a lot of neat mods and projects that shows off just how talented the Quake Community really is.

Unity's behavior is embarrassingly greedy. Clearly trying to brute force their way into skimming revenue from every mobile game on the market -> pushing their adware onto every piece of software. It's been really disheartening to see every game development software company demand exponentially more profit the past few years. Especially since it comes at the expense of scaring away blossoming developers...
If you haven't learned to make games, but plan to - use something open source like GODOT, or at least an old version of RPG maker with a one-time purchase of a license.
If the owner of the IDE you're using would be legally within their rights to do what Unity is doing now you should assume that they will do it eventually too.
#text#unity#Amazing that years of cumulative tool development and resources can just be exploited#Unity is derided (somewhat justly) as a platform#but for many it's been a crucial step for learning at LEAST#gamedev

Sunrise to Sunset on the Martian Mimetolith
Scattered mesas, such as this one, are common in the Cydonia region, where the heavily cratered Southern highlands of Mars transition into the smooth Northern lowlands. Many midlatitude locations like this have also experienced glacial activity, which probably reduced the size of this mesa and created the stubby valleys around its highest level. Patches of smooth material (especially on its east- and north-facing sides) are likely to be remnants of dusty water ice.
This particular mesa acquired a certain notoriety when an image was captured by the Viking 1 orbiter on 25 July 1976. The shadows cast across the feature created a pareidolic perception of a human face. This feature became one of the most famous examples of a “mimetolith,” a pattern created by rocks that may come to mimic recognizable forms through the random processes of formation, weathering and erosion.
A stereo pair of this feature taken by HiRISE was turned into a digital terrain model. HiRISE DTMs are made from two images of the same area on the ground, taken from different angles, on different orbits. HiRISE DTMs provide valuable data, not only for researchers, but also for visualizing the terrain.
For example, with the DTM we can recreate the shadows on the day of the original 1976 Viking image. By modeling the sun angle as it would have appeared on 25 July 1976 throughout the day, the features of the mimetolith only take shape when the lighting is lowest just before sunset. This video and color perspective views were created by our team using the DTM data input into open source visualization software. Visualizations such as these provide an accurate view of what could be seen by a ground-based or aerial explorer.

The manual for Mario Artist Communication Kit, software for the Japan-only Nintendo 64DD add-on for the Nintendo 64 that allowed users to connect to the Internet and upload Mario Artist creations, features an illustration in its manual that explains a secure online transfer of images using Mario characters.
Mario is uploading "secret works 🩷" into a Randnet Net Studio "exchange box" while sharing the ID and password offline with Peach, the intended recipient. She is then able to retrieve the works from the exchange box using the ID and password she received from Mario, while Bowser, who represents a third party who is not the intended recipient, is unable to access them due to not knowing the ID and password.

I think this might be one of my favorites which I really shouldn't say when I've only read like 10. It's very funny.
Original & cleaned comics under the cut, along with details.
Translation assistance: @reunioninn
ID in alt.
original text below the comic:
Third comic I picked managed to hit me with what I assume to be wordplay. I tried to make sure the joke landed correctly.
-
All of the below is now moot, since the issue wasn't a pun or wordplay, but the format that Robo-Ky speaks in. He speaks exclusively in Katakana which translation software has trouble translating. Now that I know this, I'll hopefully be able to get it translated into 'regular' Japanese for more accurate translation.
In panel three, DeepL translated [ ソコニ 立ツナ! ] as [ There you go. Tuna! ]. When I checked a bit further, DeepL further defined it as [ canned tuna (from canned tuna standing on its own) ]. Two other sources defined it as [ rope, cord, line ] and [ to leave, to stand, to move oneself, to stand (up for something ]. All of the different definitions and the title led me to believe that it was a pun I couldn't understand.
I decided that using a 'direct' translation would... Just make it too nonsensical, especially since I wouldn't be able to explain the joke. Since the joke is that Anji is mistaking Robo-Ky as sleeping when he's actually doing something else, i decided that keeping the beginning of what Robo-Ky says [ there you go. ] would be a... decent compromise? I did the best that I could.
This is probably what'll feel iffiest about using translation software to translate these instead of doing it myself; I know that there's something I'm missing, and using context clues only gets so far when it's a pun or the like.
But on the other hand, there aren't many people translating these, and putting requests in to those people when there are so many comics I want to see translated is exceptionally selfish.
If anyone who understands Japanese personally wants to team up with me to translate these, I wouldn't say no.
If you have a better translation, or can explain what I missed here, send me an ask or a message with it and I'll either update the translation and update the credits with your username, or rewrite the dialogue that I changed the most to fit better with the original meaning.
The first version of this comic that I posted:
Leaving this in the post to keep a record. I think it was a decent guess, personally. But that's just me.
second version (it's so minor, but i felt it flowed better with 'just' so I HAD to fix it.)

im sorry but i need to geek out somewhere and screaming into the void on tumblr is less likely to get me flayed than on twitter, especially if i get terms wrong. plus i can do a read more and yall can click into the tech talk if you want to verse it bombarding your twitter timelines
so idk if i only liked it or if i actually put it in my queue but i saw a post that talked about a few pieces of tech that focus on user repairs and being sustainable (fairphone and frameworks laptop) and after doing some more research into what they have to offer i actually really excited that these products are finely hitting the us market and that people are moving away from the belief that super smooth streamlined glassy = the future. being able to reliably repair and keep what you have alive verse throwing the whole thing away when maybe all you needed to do is add more ram to your current laptop (something that i would do with my laptop to keep using it for a few more years if it wasnt glued shut and i was at risk of cracking the screen) or swap out a fuse.
i know big corporations dont like it but i truly do believe with how much tech we use on a daily basis that the way that we are going to be more environmentally friendly is to move back to tech that we can hang onto for as long as we can and to recycle and then reuse what we cant. like with the frameworks laptop. i saw that they just partnered with coolermaster to create a case specifically so that you can reuse you motherboard, cpu, etc and make a portable workstation. you could dual wield with the laptop you just upgraded if you want to dedicate specific tasks to one or the other. they also specifically mentioned that you could screw it into the back of a monitor and create your own all in one. guys thats cool as shit??? if you had a 3d printer and some time you could even create that yourself
on top of the actual hardware part moving to open source programs when your able. when i update my desktop i plan on running linux. it might have a learning curve compared to windows but in terms of performance??? ive heard that it runs smoother even on older machines, that its more efficient because isnt running stuff in the background that tracks your data and shit. now i understand that not everyone can do that because there are some programs that dont play nice with linux but for my needs at least it does everything i would need it to. and maybe a couple years down the road we do figure out how to run these programs on certain flavors of linux since its open source and people fiddle with it so much. (still looking for alternatives to like word and excel though, i use google docs since its free but i want to move away from them as much as i can too since they laid of their youtube music team (i believe?? it might of been a different branch) for trying to unionize)
if anyone knows of any other smaller companies that actually focus on sustainability and user repairability please let me know. theres certain pieces of tech that i think are now unfortunately behind a software repair paywall, things that used to be just machines and are gaining more bells and whistles like cars and refrigerators if that makes sense. but the more we push for these things to be repairable by us the consumers id hope that would change, or there would at least be options that dont need specific companies to repair them or else they blow up

idk if anyone's recommended paint.net but it's a free open source software that is basically as analogue as possible. it's like MS paint but with layers. you can also download extensions to do other stuff but it sounds like you enjoy the basic format. just thought id throw that in your inbox just in case you ever want to give it a try
👀👀 I'll def look into it :)
