7am, eating cold leftover teriyaki stir-fry for breakfast and crying over blorbos
#normal Saturday morning behavior#redacted spoilers#redacted audio#redacted sam#Seven.txt#rp audio stuff#well. crying over one singular blorbo in particular. Sam's still got me in an emotional chokehold#and i'm too sad to even make a stupid little joke abt how i wouldn't mind if it was a physical one too. ayeee *insert sad eyebrow wiggle*#no but seriously. i have so many feelings abt him and i can't even say it all bc some of it isn't public info yet#eh fuck it i'll just draft this until the audio goes public and then i'll post it once it's no longer Exclusive Info#bc i dont wanna leak Early Access stuff but i have to get this out of my system rn and the new audio is part of what sparked these thoughts#which is funny bc i. literally haven't even listened to it yet. i'm not Ready 😭#where's that tiktok screenshot that's like. 'hyperfixation so bad that i can't even engage with the source material' bc that's me rn#like bro Sam only won the poll like. 2 or 3 days ago and Eric is Already dropping a new Sam audio?? hello? Mr. Redacted i wasn't prepared#anyways i was spoiling myself by perusing the comments last night trying to get a feel for if it's gonna be more angst or comfort#and i saw a comment that absolutely shattered me. and it reignited all my sad thoughts about Sam's eventual. uh. y'know. death.#apparently they plant a tree together or smthn in the new audio (which already has me & my beloved 10y/o orange tree feeling some kinda way#but to the individual in the comments who brought to all our minds the image of Sam sitting beneath that tree in 30 or so years time#when he's decided that he's ready to die and sits out there waiting for the sun to rise..................... #i'm gonna need u to compensate me for all of that unexpected emotional damage /j /nm#i'm Still not over what he told Darlin' while they had their talk about the future up on his roof together. that audio killed me#then yesterday i was listening to my Sam & Darlin' playlist while cleaning. and Malibu Nights by LANY came on. which i always skip bc Sad#but i let it play and just started crying. standing in the middle of the room all disheveled and holding a broom. as one does.#iirc that song is one that Eric himself said is applicable to Sam which is why/how i found it and put it on the playlist. and god. g o d#hm. i hope that wasn't Patreon exclusive info. i can't remember if it was a public post where he said that or not. hope it's okay to share#but if we can take that song as like. unofficial canon for Sam then that also confirms my idea that he used to drink to cope#which makes the opening lines of Fix What You Didn't Break by Nate Smith even more applicable. i should go edit that post actually#anyways i'm just. feeling a lot. and i love Sam very much and i don't want him to die. but i want him to do what he wants at the same time#Alexis took so fucking much from him. he deserves to live - and end - his life on his own terms. ... i think i need to go write something#*casually fishes this post out of the drafts 3 and a half days later* hi so uh. i wrote a 4k oneshot :) and will hopefully post it tomorrow

I have talked a few times about Psychological Operations or psyops on here, but I would like to point out a real world example of a PO Operation that was found out recently by the Department of Justice.
Before that though, If you would like to read more about the actual position of a PO soldier, you can look no further then the PO benefits page on the US Army special operations recruitment website (https://www.goarmysof.army.mil/PO/).
Personally I feel like many people still believe psyops to be some kind of conspiracy theory instead of a fairly standard military division in almost all modern militaries, anyways onto the example.
The US Department of Justice is going after (indicting) two RT (Russian state media) employees for committing fraud and violating the Foreign Agents Registration Act.
Basically they created a front "media" company in Tennessee, translated russian propaganda videos into english, then paid right-wing influencers to promote (reblog/retweet/talk about on streams) said videos.
Three of the named influencers that I could find were Tim Pool, Dave Rubin and Benny Johnson.
I honestly have no idea who these three are, but supposedly their platforms have millions of followers. Also, some of these influencers were paid up too $100,000 a week to promote their videos and messaging.
So to summarize, Russia setup a fake company to pay American influencers to repeat their lies so that their followers would interpret those lies as legitimate since their were coming from a source they trust.
When people talk about election interference this is what we are talking about.
$100K a week is insane money for most, I am sure many people would be hard pressed to not sell their soul for that much money. Many of the videos from this media company were lies about the Ukraine war, and looking into Tim Pool it seems he also has a very anti-Ukraine stance (Audio from one of this podcasts https://v.redd.it/41xgvuri0vmd1/DASH_AUDIO_128.mp4)
I generally do not talk about my job on here, but corporations used to pay me to run seminars to help train their employees on spotting these types of attacks--mainly targeted psyops attacks from nation states to hack into their company via end user interaction.
Or in layman's terms, to help companies protect themselves from Russian Ransomware Thieves and Chinese Intellectual Property/Information collectors. Both of these being extensions of the Psychological Operations military divisions of each country.
I am really not sure how to end this post other than I am just trying to show people how real it is that the militaries of the world are spending obscene amounts of money in trying to influence your opinions and day to day life via your internet consumption.
Surf responsibility, be very wary of anyone telling you not to vote and don't believe everything you see/hear on TikTok/youtube/twitter/Insta etc etc

pairing: bucky barnes x reader
summary: your boyfriend discovers some interesting edits of himself
w/c: 598
warnings: fluff, slight angst, mentions of bucky’s past, swearing, comedy?, minor ca:bnw spoilers
a/n: this is based off of this post and written for @allthewordsofafeather. also my first time writing bucky so i’m sorry if anything feels ooc!! never written in second pov before either so…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It started as a joke.
You and Sam had been looking at some tiktoks when an interesting video came up on your fyp. It was an edit of Bucky to the iconic song Rasputin. Some of the videos used were easily identified as being from different news sources from missions he and Sam had gone on in the past.
Other clips were older, grainier, and distinctly showed Bucky's old titanium arm in them. You didn't want to know where this person had acquired such footage.
Fascinated you and Sam had fallen down a rabbit hole of edits of your boyfriend and began to send every single one to each other when they popped up on your fyp’s. Now weeks later it had come back to haunt your ass.
Sam had finally convinced Bucky to download tiktok. Claiming it would be good for his campaign and reach the younger voters. In reality it was so Sam could send all the stupid tiktok’s he found funny to him instead of you or Joaquin.
The problem started with a simple misclick. You had been lying in bed bundled up in the comforter scrolling when another edit of Buck to Rasputin came on. This one had sped the audio up and showed Bucky fighting some random bad guy of the month. Smiling you hit the arrow and sent the video to Sam and went back to your doomscrolling.
☾ ⋆*・゚:⋆*・゚☾ ⋆*・゚:⋆*・゚☾ ⋆*・゚:⋆*・゚☾ ⋆*・゚:⋆*・゚☾ ⋆*・゚:⋆*
The ping of a notification coming through woke you from your nap. Groaning you opened your eyes, gaze narrowing on your phone which now lied haphazardly at the edge of the bed.
Freeing yourself from the confines of your makeshift cocoon you had grabbed your phone and squinted at the bright screen. A single message on tiktok showed on your lock screen.
bucky: what the fuck?
Your brows furrowed as you racked your brain for what video could have pertained to such a response from your boyfriend. You didn’t remember sending him any videos as you usually showed him your likes when he was home. And the only tiktok you remember sending that afternoon had been—
“shit.”
Scrambling you sat up, turning on the bedside lamp and unlocking your phone to enter the app. Eyes wide you tapped on messages and Bucky’s icon and saw what you feared.
You hadn’t sent the edit of your boyfriend to Sam. You had sent it to Bucky.
Horror replaced the shock on your face as you realised Bucky had seen the tiktok. You cursed Sam for showing Buck how to use the fucking app instead of just hiring a social media manager.
you: I can explain…
bucky: doll, why is there a video of me fighting a guy to a song?
you: it’s an edit. some people like to take clips of celebrities and fictional characters and put them to a song or audio. there’s a bunch of Sam and even me as well.
bucky: why would anyone do that?
you: because it’s fun? idk people just like to watch videos of their celeb crushes or whatever. really buck it’s not anything bad and that video wasn’t even meant for you!! I thought I sent it to Sam but I must have misclicked.
There was a pause in the messaging and you assumed Bucky had simply given up on trying to understand until—
a new message popped up.
bucky: WHY THE FUCK WOULD YOU SEND IT TO SAM?!?
God, you were going to throttle Sam for this…

Y/N Y/LN's leaked music continues to give fans hints about her relationship status, completely against the artist's wishes (8/17/2022 3:27 PM PT)
Many listeners of the singer woke up to a great surprise this morning when an anonymous twitter account posted a link to one of Y/N Y/LN's unreleased songs.
For the past few months, fans have been speculating when the artist would release more music since having been in a rumored relationship with the proclaimed gotham elite, Jason Todd. The lyrics "Boys blowin' up my phone, They just ain't you" and "I'd give this pussy to you, nine-to-five, five-to-nine" give us a clear hint of what may be going on between the two, and fans were quick to catch on.
Much to the artist's dismay, however, the song’s chorus found it way over to tiktok with over 700,000 videos having used the audio already. Many users of the app have participated in a dance trend that has already seemed to be created.
Despite all the positive feedback directed towards the singer, Y/N was not hesitant to express her irritation for the invasion of privacy. After seeing the topic trending on twitter this morning, a post was made to her account stating:
@y/nforeal: Now who tf leaked my shit?? This why yall dont ever get any music outta me😐
After doing some digging, inside sources have come to the conclusion that Artemis Grace, singer and former girlfriend of Jason, played some part in unconsentually releasing the song. Even though the two artists work under the same record label, Artemis wouldn’t do something this crazy, right?
But to nobody’s surprise, it seems that the vengeful ex has a long history of being senseless. Jason has stated in the past that the main reason he ended things with her was because she liked to have constant "control" over him. In an interview last year, he made it very clear how unhappy he was with Artemis, saying:
"She was known for taking extreme measures to make sure I stayed tied down to her. I don't really wanna get into it, but she's always had an obsession with being in the star of things, and our relationship was no exception."
While both Todd and Y/LN have yet to clear the air regarding their rumored love affair, sources still firmly believe that something is going on between them to have inspired such a song. Still, whether they wanna admit it or not, they really are super cute together. ;)

i really didn't wanna make artemis the bad guy here but i needed a plotline dawg😭

hi so the New York Times just published a gaylor manifesto and since you’ve been my main source of info for this stuff I wanted to share it https://www.nytimes.com/2024/01/04/opinion/taylor-swift-queer.html
Tumblr media
sigh.
okay. if anyone wants to read along, check out the unpaywalled article here:
https://archive.is/uHxuV
before we really get into this I just want to say that I looked into author Anna Marks' previous contributions to the NYT opinion column, of which there are two: a piece about how Marks, as a queer fan, is "heartbroken" by Harry Styles 'appropriating" queer culture by wearing ugly clothes, and an audio piece about how women referring to themselves as "girls" on TikTok is actually radical feminist praxis. so. hot mess express up in here.
anyway this piece is a shitshow that basically plays at the greatest hits from Gaylor conspiracy theories, mainly harping on her inability to come out because of some intangible threat it would pose to her career:
While Ms. Swift’s songs, largely written from her own perspective, cannot always conform to the idea of a woman our culture expects, her celebrity can. That separation, between Swift the songwriter and Swift the star, allows Ms. Swift to press against the golden birdcage in which she has found herself. She can write about women’s complexity in her confessional songs, but if ever she chooses not to publicly comply with the dominant culture’s fantasy, she will remain uncategorizable, and therefore, unsellable. Her star — as bright as it is now — would surely dim.
immediately beneath this is an image of Taylor Swift crumpled face-down onstage, looking wet; if nothing else, it's peak melodrama.
the most glaring thing about this, to me, is Marks' willful omission of other queer pop stars. she opens the article with a jarring discussion of lesbian country singer Chely Wright's 2006 suicide attempt and mentions a few contemporary celebrities who have been encouraged to stay closeted -  Cara Delevingne, Colton Haynes, Elliot Page, Kristen Stewart, Raven Symoné and Sam Smith - but with the obvious exception of Smith, they're hardly Swift's peers. as I've said before in my worst and most stupid post, the argument that outing herself would "dim Taylor's star" falls apart pretty significantly when you look at the success of artists like Lil Nas X, Billie Eilish, Doja Cat, Cardi B, and Halsey. Taylor Swift had a bigger year in 2023 than any of them combined, frankly; coming out as queer wouldn't slow her down in the slightest. why the fuck are gaylors so determined to act like she's beholden to a fanbase comprised entirely of conservatives?
also everything about how coming out is sooooo hard for famous people because they're subject to scrutiny and weird behavior as if that's not? something Taylor Swift already deals with? hello hi? get a grip I implore you. why are we wasting webspace on this.

Obligatory Hypnosis Mic Post
Hey it's Emmet back at it again with HypMic posting! Because there's quite a few new fans coming in with both the release of Rhyme Anima+ last year and the expansion of HypMic events to the US, I figured I should explain what the hell is actually going on.
Hypnosis Mic is a multi-media music project created by King Records/Evil Line Records that consists of music, dramatracks, manga, anime, stage plays, live shows, and mobile games. It's target audience is women, though it can appeal to anyone who likes men in general. Before explaining the different forms of media here, there are a few fandom rules we tend to follow. This will be long btw so strap the fuck in.
Shipping wars aren't really a thing here. No seriously, there's 21 main characters and generally speaking any ship goes. With the exception of morally bad (BBcest, most main cast Jiro ships, and all main cast Saburo ships) and morally dubious (Samaichi and Hitojyu) ships, people generally don't care who kisses who. If you see something you don't like, block and move on. HypMic is also a multishipper paradise, so if you like that, welcome!
This is an M rated series for a reason. There are dark and adult topics far and wide, and trying to ignore them doesn't do the characters any justice. Here's a list of various potentially triggering topics that occur in the series: sex trafficking, general violence both with and without weapons, minor body mutilation, extreme manipulation, implied/referenced abuse including S/A, suicide including attempts, drug use and abuse, realistic depictions of PTSD and other mental disorders, lots of familial death, depictions of war and the aftermath, mild transphobia, and bullying.
This series is made for a primarily female audience. If you're a cishet man coming into this bc you think Ichijiku is hot, you will find no community here for you. The women are beautifully crafted characters and will be respected as such. That also being said, people who don't like Honobono are NOT misogynistic. She is designed to be a top tier villain and disliking her is not a bad thing.
We know the lore timeline doesn't make sense. Trust us. We know. Getting into this series means understanding that, being mildly upset about it at any given time, and talking to peers about it.
If I catch ANYONE using character trauma as a JOKE I will fucking find you and that is a promise, especially when it comes to Jyuto, Rio, Dice, Hifumi, and Jyushi. I will get you myself.
With that out of the way, onto the different types of media in this massive thang!
Main Canon
Drama Tracks: These are the primary source of the main Canon lore. These are simply audio tracks of events in HypMic, and they can be found on both YouTube and Spotify. There are translations for all of them on the Internet, but on the official HypMic YouTube and TikTok there are their own translations from the formation of the divisions through the first DRB. All of the lore contained here is what is part of the MAIN CANON, so if you're looking for story its going to be here.
Manga: The manga is an almost 1:1 replica of the drama tracks in a visual format, so the lore from these are going to be part of the main Canon as well. That being said, English speakers will have a difficult time finding any translation of the manga since the fan translations are kept under wraps for Reasons that Make Sense. Additionally, no screenshots of the manga translations are allowed to be made public for the same reasons, so it's incredibly difficult to access. Maybe one day we'll get a translation, but for now, if you're curious about the manga, dm me for more information.
Songs: The main appeal of the series! The absolutely massive discography doesn't have a huge amount of lore or plot relevance, and are instead just there to exist. A good 95% of the whole discography is, in my opinion, really good, but it's also up to taste due to the wide range of genres covered. Some songs that seem to have lore, namely Once Upon a Time in Shibuya, Murder at the House of Magic, and Stella, are actually songs based on Gentaro Yumeno's stories (they're also really good, if you like gay people who outright say they'd be friends in every universe go listen to Stella). Other than that, they exist and are Good™ but not all of them are on Spotify which is the biggest shame in the world.
Live Shows (Not Hypstage)
Hypnama: A weekly Livestream put on by the producers where some of the character seiyuus (voice actors) talk about various things. It's relatively goofy and unserious, though they do talk about upcoming news and merch for the series. It's fun to watch since they all tend to dick around on stage or get thrown into the rice field for enrichment time.
3DCG Lives: These are similar to Vocaloid concerts, where projections of the HypMic characters are animated while singing and doing little talking segments. There are a few of these out and can be found across the Internet, along with translations for them. The animation can be a little clunky at times, but they're a fun watch anyway.
Live Performances: These lives consist of the seiyuus (voice actors) going on stage to do live performances of a set list. There have been ten of these so far, with the discography all the way up through Block Party and RA+. There were also fan meetings recently that were in the same vein. Again these are just live performances of the songs, so no translation is needed!
Rhyme Anima
This segment doesn't need a bulleted list simply because of it only having two seasons. Rhyme Anima is the anime for hypnosis mic, and also has its own lore. I generally don't like recommending RA for new fans despite the fact that it's the easiest way to get into the series, mainly because it's not part of the actual lore and the characterization is...sadly, not great. It's got good songs, and season two has tragic yaoi, but other than that it should not be used as any sort of base for the lore.
Mobile Games
Alternative Rap Battle: Shortened to ARB, this is the legally required music media rhythm game. There's some semblance of story and lore, except it's all the most out there and absurd shit imaginable. None of it is part of the main Canon and the cards are decent, but the sheer ridiculousness of it is kinda worth it. It's not the best gatcha and it's really only for card collecting but the card art is available online if that's what you're interested in.
Dream Rap Battle: Also known as Hypdori, this is the newest game that came out. Once again the lore isn't part of the main story, but there is more of an actual story there this time. The gatcha is. Worse. But the gameplay is different and once again the cards are available online. Both of these games are only available in Japan, so you'll want a VPN or use the Qooapp (which is what I use).
Rule the Stage
Old Gen: There are two generations of Rule the Stage, which are the HypMic stageplays. Often just referred to as Hypstage, these shows have their own lore and canon. There are DRBs like in the main Canon, though there are different winners than the ones for the main story. Admittedly the focus isn't exactly the other DRBs, but instead the additional five divisions and 14 new characters, as well as the stories attached to them. There's even a cult following for these new characters who are collectively referred to as "Original Divisions" or Oridivis. There are five tracks with original stories, as well as BB vs DH, BAT vs MTR, and FP vs MTC. Each division also has a Rep Live with new songs and skits. The cast of the old gen of Hypstage all graduated last year, paving the way for the new gen. (That being said at least one of the old gen oridivis is coming back this July. So.)
New Gen: The new generation of Hypstage is still picking up and only has done three shows, but they're already proving themselves with absolutely outstanding stories. New Encounter was a retelling of the second DRB, Renegades of Female was a stageplay that centered entirely around the women of Chuuoku and the impact of the H Age, and Grateful Cypher was an interesting story around a group that were trying to make their way in the world without mics. There are also new gen oridivis, though as of right now we haven't heard anything insofar from them since Grateful Cypher. If I keep talking about Hypstage this post will be even longer, so I have to cut myself off but I am in fact one of the cult followers of Oridivi.
Wow this post was long but I hope this is helpful to anyone interested in the other medias of HypMic! Leave questions in the notes and I'll do my best to reply to them, thank you for reading!

I'm putting together a bootleg slime tutorial of the musical, if you have footage please read!
PSA: This is my proper post regarding this, I have went through and compiled most of the London clips of Death Note the Musical available online. I still need to sort through some audio, but I'm hoping to put together some kind of bootleg slime tutorial!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
More yapping info under the cut.
If someone with extra clips that they've never published *somehow* finds me please dont be afraid to contact. I likely won't put this together fully until i have more footage/audio.
99% of the clips I have access to are from tiktok with text plastered all over, and all the footage I have is in 360p. So it definitely won't be an ideal way to view it. This is intended to be consumed as supplementary material to enjoy the musical and is being put together for archival purposes.
The colors in the sheet represent the sources i gathered the clips from. I have went through what I believe to be all the available clips online.
I still need to sort through several curtain call clips + audio i found last minute. I also need to compile together listings people have made regarding selling/trading clips and see if anyone is up to kindly give clips of portions that im at the very least missing.
I have access to 2 semi-complete scripts made by other fans to track what is missing from the clips i've found, but i'm taking caution in guessing what is missing so basically im overestimating what I'm missing.
The musical itself is a really well made adaption, and although I don't personally enjoy how the london adaptation went I believe its still worth putting together to make an archival of. Hoping this may bring in more people to enjoy this piece of media!
Note: I haven't personally seen the musical live so I don't have my own clips. Hell, I only properly watched death note itself a bit over a month ago, but i really want to contribute to the fandom's archival work in some way with what I can. I do hope this can progress somewhat from the help of others in order to put this together for more people to enjoy it!
Thank you for reading. I'd appreciate any clip or audio, or sharing this around to someone who might. Cheers!

No, Donald Trump is not going to enact Martial Law on April 20th
I keep seeing this everywhere on tiktok and it's being spread by people with blue checks next to their name. Many of my own mutuals are reposting their tiktoks without a second thought to if the person making that video is even really telling the whole truth or anything close to it.
So I did some digging (I googled for 5 minutes if this was happening) and I will now compile what I have found here so that everyone who has maybe seen those videos calms down. Firstly, something MIGHT happen on April 20th but it has nothing to do with Martial Law or the Insurrection Act at all. On April 20th, Trump does plan to maybe try and declare a national emergency at the southern border as per the official White House . Gov website.
This right here is our ONLY primary source for this information and it was the only primary source I could find when I went googling and asked other people. Everything else after this website link talking about declaring a national emergency at the border (NOT Invoking the Insurrection Act like those tiktoks and reddit people keep implying) are opinion pieces made by journalists who aren't aligned with the Trump Administration at all, didn't interview anyone apart of said Administration, and doesn't have video or audio recording of Trump saying he's going to invoke the Insurrection Act on April 20th.
These three articles pop up when you google "April 20th Insurrection Act" specifically. All three of them are from SECONDARY sources meaning these are NOT primary sources. A Secondary Source is as follows:
"In contrast, a secondary source of information is one that was created later by someone who did not experience first-hand or participate in the events or conditions you’re researching. For the purposes of a historical research project, secondary sources are generally scholarly books and articles. Also included would be reference sources like encyclopedias." - University of Illinois website
So as you can see, these three articles are not actually that reliable and their credibility lessens when faced with what we actually want to know in the first place: "Is Donald Trump going to Invoke the Insurrection Act on April 20th?"
Not only that, but one of these three articles namely the one from Waging nonviolence is written in a Personal Tone, that means the writer wrote it from his own perspective. Everything in that article is HIS opinion. It is not fact.
So to conclude, no Donald Trump has not said he will invoke Martial law on the 20th. He has said he will try to declare a national emergency at the southern border, but has currently made NO mention of invoking the Insurrection Act.
So now everyone can calm down. Fear mongering in the guise of "just trying to inform others" is terrible and you are a terrible person if you do it.

Social Media Ethics
Social media is a constantly evolving world and different platforms will always have different trending topics. When it comes to social media many discuss the ethics of it and what is the correct reaction to certain topics discussed on the platform.
A big trend currently is the rise of AI technologies and the discussion around ethics. AI is widely popular and while some say it gives us new opportunities, others are concerned about the hurt it can cause. AI has improved content moderation on social media platforms and is used to detect and remove harmful content for viewers. However, some say AI algorithms are reinforcing biases as they could struggle to understand certain posts and remove them without reason. AI is also known to spread misinformation with realistic videos or audio recordings that can manipulate viewers and create false narratives. This can quickly spread false information and cause viewers to lose trust in the media.
One case I can mention related to social media ethics happened a while back and left a big impact on the industry and this creator's career. An influencer by the name of Mikayla Nogueira is a makeup guru on TikTok and was caught in a scandal a while back after faking an advertisement. She was paid to promote a Lorealparisusa mascara and was found to have posted the video and cut it after one coat of mascara. After coming back with the second coat of mascara her audience found that she had put on false eyelashes with the mascara to make it look better. This shows how Mikayla was trying to manipulate her audience into buying the mascara with a dishonest review about it. She thought the mascara wasn’t that good and had to put on false eyelashes to enhance it yet still took the money from the brand and promoted it to her viewers.
Another case I want to speak about is James Charles, a famous makeup YouTuber who has been in many controversies throughout his career. James was found to have been using his influence and fame to flirt with straight men online which many fans found to be an abuse of his position as a public figure. Many men had come forward stating that they had informed him that they were straight and uncomfortable with the flirting. James was shown to be manipulating these men with his popularity and pull in the industry. His viewers quickly saw the ugly truths that were coming out and it made him lose millions of fans shortly after.
An organization I would join would be Skims as it focuses on inclusivity, body positivity, and diversity. I would be interested in joining their social media staff as it promotes diversity and inclusion which speaks to a wide range of people. A brand that welcomes so many different people while challenging the narrowing beauty standards is rare. This brand is also very honest and transparent with its buyers and openly discusses its product quality, sourcing, and design process. As part of their social media team, I’d be glad to be able to contribute to sharing real information that educates and informs an audience.
I believe a brand I can mention that utilizes proper social media ethics would be Skims, a fashion and shape wear brand founded by Kim Kardashian. The brand is all about being inclusive and you can tell based on their social media advertising and campaigns. Kim is very inclusive when selecting who she wants modeling the brand and has selected women of all skin tones, and shapes, and even started a brand for men as well. Skims has shot up in popularity due to its great marketing and high quality. The brand is known for its skin-toned colors that are available in various colors that create a more inclusive experience. The brand speaks to a wide range of customers.
Emma Chamberlain is a YouTuber, social media influencer, and entrepreneur that I believe practices strong ethical behavior on social media. She used to be my favorite YouTuber and I watched all of her videos however, she no longer posts as much due to mental health concerns. But Emma has always stayed true to her audience and is a big advocate for mental health and staying true to yourself. She openly discusses topics of the importance of self-care and encourages her followers to take breaks when they need to. This helped her to create a positive and supportive community within her followers as she has never lied about the flaws and struggles she deals with.
As a teenage girl who is on social media often and follows trends and news constantly, I believe I’ve learned what an audience is looking for. I would be very transparent with viewers as that is what they're looking for, whether in a brand like Skims or an influencer like Emma Chamberlain, building a positive community is what people look for. Sharing a space where anyone is allowed will always be popular because it's inclusive. I would also be real whether it’s referring to what I’m feeling or what issues I’m dealing with. When I watched Emma I found that her transparency with her audience is what made people want to watch her and the realness she exhibited with what mental health issues she was dealing with really comforted her viewers.
Transparency and inclusivity are concepts I think are necessary to adhere to as this is what brings honesty to viewers and helps to build a sense of community. Transparency with viewers helps to build a relationship between you and your audience that is both honest and trusting. Transparency also builds a foundation for a positive community where people feel safe watching you and can believe what you have to say. I also believe that inclusivity is an important concept as it allows for more people to watch you and feel comfortable knowing that you accept and welcome all.
I believe that I would avoid the spread of misinformation as it is already such a popular concept yet only spreads negativity. I would never want to be someone that people believe hurts social media as a whole and I would also never want viewers to believe they can’t trust what I’m saying. I would also never promote a product I don’t truly believe in as this is also a popular concept that only misleads and manipulates viewers. As a viewer, I never trust anyone endorsing a product due to the thoughts of them doing it for a check and I would never want an audience to believe this in regards to me.
I would follow the act of being real with viewers or buyers as it builds trust and presents you as what you truly are. I would also follow the concept of being truthful in advertising as so many ads already deliver false promises to buyers, being truthful helps you to stand out. To be truthful with advertising would also help you to gain a supportive fanbase as buyers would realize what you are selling is accurate. I’d also make sure to give credit when it's due as nobody wants to steal ideas and claim them as their own. Even if you get inspired by somebody else you should allow them the credit and allow them to gain the support they deserve. I would also make sure to avoid spreading fake news as it is already such a popular aspect of social media. I would verify the credibility of news or information before sharing it with an audience and make sure to fact-check before posting something. I’d also be sure to be inclusive and diverse in all aspects, allowing anyone to show support knowing that I support everyone as well. I would want my audience to feel that anyone is welcome whether that be through language, imagery, or singular posts.

Week Two - Compulsive Behaviors
Inventory Research:
This week I went more into the idea of Compulsive Behaviors. I ended up researching a little bit on Body Focused Repetitive Behaviors (BFRB). A good question that I was asked when I presented this topic was "Do these behaviors have anything beneficial about them? One of my sources states that, “In some cases, BFRBs are engaged to decrease anxiety. These behaviors rarely if ever decrease anxiety in the long run; in most cases, they only provide temporary relief.” Also, there is a small possibility that they are likely hereditary.
Q&A: Last week I presented some questions and answers from this google form, but I also collected some more:
Doomscrolling, this person spends various hours on tiktok/reels, started during COVID. They manage by letting their phone die and going outside!
Double checking (if cameras are off, if audio is off..) put up a privacy cover on all of their devices. Fills the person with paranoia.
Overall, a bunch of the responses I recieved seemed to be stress-related.
Observing in Action:
I see this all the time with my own: nail biting, hair twirling, I also grind my teeth in my sleep and didn't even notice until my dentist brought it up one day. Even as I am typing this, the person sitting next to me at Babbio is shaking their leg.
Reflection:
My overall reflection this topic is that I would like to understand more of my own personal compulsions. If I had to pick one that bothers me the most it would be the nail biting. I have tried many, many MANY different ways to get myself to stop and nothing has truly helped so far. The only positive thing is that I once did go months without biting them, and they grew out SUPER long, so there is the chance that I can stop this habit altogether. I also think I can recognize my triggers, which has mainly been a stressful mindset. I just need to figure out about to relax and occupy my hands.
I also learned something new about me with this new research: As I continue typing this and the person next to me continues to shake their leg, I found the answer to another thing I have been wondering about for the longest time. Ever since I was little, I would get very annoyed and distracted at seeing repetitive movements (shaking legs, tapping fingers..) Even though certain sounds DO bother me, in these cases it was just the movement that would bother me, and would distract me from my work.
I found the name for it: Misokinesia, which is described as the hatred of small, repetitive movements.

Tumblr media
You Know, for my first drawing in a while to upload- I actually thought that this would be cooler than it is
Also, I have zero clue who said this. I found the audio on TikTok and imidatly wanted it on my wall. If you want it as well, I do have it on my redbubble https://www.redbubble.com/people/NicoleNeco (The poster is around 14$ though, the sticker is like 2$ if anyone is actually interested in it)
I'll see if I can link my redbubble. Also, I know it's not the best place to sell things and would be better if I made them myself or source a company and shipped everything myself to ship it to the people who order them- Yeah, I don't have the money to do so, AND I'm not going to drop money on something I would have to store a lot of at my house for it to sell one every few months.
At some point In my life, I would love to do that. But Right now, my art is mid, and I would rather use an on demand place like RedBubble.

Exploring TikTok Trends - From Challenges to Viral Videos
Tumblr media
TikTok allows businesses to engage with its younger audience and increase brand recognition by producing videos inspired by current trends, such as challenges, dances, hashtags or music. TikTok trends may come and go quickly, yet can have lasting cultural ramifications that require businesses to remain abreast of them. For this reason, businesses must stay up-to-date with TikTok trends for maximum effectiveness. 1. Challenges Businesses looking to increase their presence on TikTok may produce content centered around current challenges, dances and hashtags in order to boost engagement and views. Catching trends quickly requires quick responses as videos tend to move quickly on TikTok. Many of these trends can be dangerous and cause physical harm, with one such dangerous trend being "back cracking", in which someone wilfully twists and pulls on another person's spine without proper training, potentially leading to long-term damage or paralysis. Another dangerous trend involves taking large doses of anti-allergy pill Benadryl (an antihistamine pill) for hallucinogenic purposes in order to induce hallucinations - leading to at least several deaths among teens involved. Brands must take great care to choose which challenges they want to join and the extent of their participation, in order to minimize risks from participating. With TikTok content moving rapidly, keeping up can be challenging - jumping on a challenge too early may mean missing the momentum behind a video and being left behind. 2. Dances TikTok trends often involve dances that are popular among users. Dance can be an enjoyable way to express oneself and often draws its inspiration from hip-hop culture; some of the most common dances on TikTok include breakdancing, popping, and locking which often come accompanied by music or sound effects. TikTok trends that promote positive behaviors often feature dances. For instance, "You Are Enough" encourages individuals to open up more about their insecurities - an effective way of increasing one's self-esteem and confidence. There are also other dances that promote positivity and good vibes, like Taylor Swift's song "Shake It Off." This trend encourages people to show off their dance moves and spread joy. Staying abreast of TikTok trends can help businesses remain relevant with their audience. By participating in recent challenges, dances, and hashtags on TikTok, businesses can increase engagement on the platform - though Horowitz cautions brands to consult their legal teams prior to using any music or audio in videos. 3. Hashtags While these trends may appear random at times, it is essential to recognize their source: TikTok users' interests and values are what drive these shifts. While some trends may only last briefly or temporarily capture people who find them relatable. "Things I Ate But Managed to Survive" carousel post trend of April 2023 found great appeal among audiences for its relatability and humor, which resonated with their brand voice and values. Companies should join trends that are aligned with their voice and values while remaining alert for what other creators may be doing that they could quickly jump on quickly as soon as something popular begins gaining steam. Hashtags are an integral component of video content on TikTok and can help boost its reach and visibility. Make use of relevant hashtags, such as product or occasion-specific tags; additionally use branded ones so your videos are easily searchable - TikTok's Creative Center provides an excellent resource for trending hashtags. 4. Vulnerability Young users on social media platforms like Snapchat are vulnerable to potentially deadly trends, like the "Benadryl Challenge." Involving teens daring one another to take anti-allergy medicine for hallucinogenic purposes in order to induce hallucinations - an action which may prove fatal - the Benadryl challenge is among them. An increasing trend among participants involves holding their breath until they pass out, which can result in brain damage and death. Praesidio Safeguarding has taken measures to address this challenge on its platform, working alongside Praesidio to keep harmful challenges off it. Trends that attract many videos tend to last longer; however, smaller trends with only a few thousand can also become popular and grow into something larger. Discover page trends are an effective way of building community around shared interests or experiences - "If I Could Be Anything..." allows users to express themselves using rhythmic animation and then their audience can guess which character they would want as their life partner! 5. Text overlay Gen Z has taken notice of one trend that has captured their imagination: the "You Are Enough" prompt, an endearing reminder to show our vulnerabilities and support each other. Videos featuring people singing, dancing and lip-synching the At Last song of the same name have emerged on social media as proof. TikTok trends capture users' attention and impact their participation on the app, whether it's just for a short while such as watertok or editing life like Wes Anderson movies; or they become permanent shifts that change culture altogether. Brands need to understand these trends so they can engage their target audiences organically within this app. Keyhole's QuickTrends tool can be an excellent way to quickly assess new trends. The feature lets you track popular sounds, hashtags and topics as well as add competitors and monitor engagement metrics all at the same time. Once you identify a trend that suits your brand's niche, create video content around that particular trend! Read the full article

hi! i saw a post you made tbh months ago (i was looking at your absolutely correct madeline miller posts and it showed up) where you seemed to not like overly sarcastic productions, and i was just curious why?
oh we're doing every kind of discourse today... i see how it is! :-)
the tl;dr is i disagreed with their hades and persephone video and i am absolutely single-minded and petty enough to dislike them entirely based on that. i will elaborate but keep in mind most of my opinion is based on that one video (and therefore that my criticism is mostly directed towards red, i haven't really seen blue's stuff)
the longer (and more substantiated) answer is that i feel like they treat their channel as educational even though it seems a lot more like entertainment, and i'm not saying there can't be overlap but again in the persephone video it seemed like they glossed over some of the heavier issues because they weren't funny which like... i'm not a fan of. red also didn't cite her sources at all, which was frustrating. especially when there were bits of original analysis she had done that were really interesting, but it was hard to find the research to back it up! and to that point, she did a lot of original analysis that people took as fact (i found the video after i was talking about the hades and persephone myth on tiktok and a lot of people tried to do a "well, actually" to me with that video as their sole source), and while that's not entirely her fault it left a bad taste in my mouth! and then i also felt like... there was a lack of critical thinking when it didn't support her point (specifically when it comes to marriage and kidnapping using similar imagery-- i feel like you cannot mention that and not examine why marriage and kidnapping would feel similar to a greek woman).
i've talked more about that video elsewhere on the blog too (i did a youtube video about it also, the audio might be a little messed up because i don't know how to make youtube videos but i tried) and i've talked at length about my hades and persephone opinions, so i won't get too much deeper here.
and more generally, even if i didn't disagree with the execution, i just personally don't love the style of video that they do-- like, the jokey cartoon retelling of mythology isn't for me. but i think it has merits as a way to make this stuff more accessible at least at an entry level, which i'm all for. i do think it can become very shallow, though, and it can promote the idea that there's one definitive telling of a myth, which is where i start to have an actual issue.
also i'm answering this just as myself (mod felix) for the record, this isn't necessarily an Official Blog Stance (since there are two mods and we usually agree but i don't remember whether i've talked to mod sarah about this specifically). not that we really have official blog stances, we just kind of come on here and say stuff

I just clicked on that tag you have for crediting TikToks and there's so many! How do you find the original TikToks?
thanks for asking! I actually don't limit myself to tiktoks for this but it just happens that uncredited tiktoks are what I come across the most on my dash, so I'll just go through my process for tiktoks specifically!
in almost every case of a tiktok being shared as a screenshot with the tiktoker's name being cropped out the screenshot shows some text, so the first thing I do is type that text into the tiktok searchbar.
if the tiktok has not been deleted/privated, the tiktok shows up right there in most cases bc the text you put on a video in the tiktok app is searchable. This honestly only takes a few seconds and it works in most cases.
Then sometimes people didn't add the text in the app or deleted/privated. In those cases it's harder to find the source. What I do then is search the text through google to see if maybe an image/video description of that particular tiktok comes up or it's otherwise been transcribed. sometimes I find it that way if it's a really popular one and get the original @ there even if the account or video may be gone, usually it's reddit posts or tweets that had a link to the original or stuff like that. (in some cases it's also worth searching twitter or tumblr or other platforms directly, bc google can suck)
and if that didn't work either I sometimes do a reverse image search (the only tool I really have for when there's no text) because it's often the case that a screenshot has been shared several times across platforms before and sometimes a version of the screenshot that does include the username pops up through that.
If I still can't find it then it's a matter of applying my knowledge of trends and platforms and users etc. like is this tiktok part of a tiktok trend so I can search the audio for it or is it about a certain topic so it could be found in a certain hashtag, what could the tiktok caption have been that maybe I can find it through that, is it perhaps an instagram reel and I gotta search there... and so on. that's a pretty holistic process that's different for every case and also requires a lot of luck (like once a different tiktok by the same guy I was looking for popped up on my fyp by chance)
I think that's a pretty detailed breakdown, but if you still have questions feel free to ask! I encourage everyone to just do this. when you see content without credit, find it and add it yourself. it's often a quick and easy process!
