May I offer you Hired Sparky doodles at 11pm at night?-
The final chapters to Hired Sparky are so nearly finished!! I've worked super hard on this story and honestly, next to The Red Critter and A Friend for Piggy, it's a story I think I've had the most fun writing since I picked up creating stories again!
I don't wanna give away too many spoilers for the story, but since it does revolve around Liv and the band I figured I should post some more with them. I posted some other drawings of Liv and Animal first interacting here, and this post is more or less a part 2 to that one: featuring her first interactions with Teeth and Floyd!
I'm gonna keep any further interactions that happen between Liv and the band to myself till the story is ready to be posted, but I may draw some more doodles of Liv interacting with the other characters since it's not just the band she befriends (Swedish Chef, Yolanda and Rowlf, to name a few, are some other muppets she talks with)
DO NOT REPOST/EDIT/COPY/TRACE MY ART OR OC

The other day I was trying to bond with one of my campers by talking about things he enjoys (so that he’d do one of the drawing activities in our art camp) and the topic of video games came up; he tells me that he likes coding, and that he and his parent are making a game. Being familiar with a few languages/kid-friendly resources on learning how to code (and just enthusiastic about games and art) I ask him what game are they making and if there’s a language they’re using.
He proudly declared that they’re using genAI to do the code, and they’re making Pong.
He didn’t care about *how* the code worked or even how to try it in other ways, just that it did because the AI did it. And I dunno, something about how kids these don’t really care about the how at their age, when that’s arguably the age where they’d care… just kinda hurts.
To give context to why it hurts: I learned how to code using Scratch.mit by my teacher in grade 7 in our school’s very first programming club, where they showed me how to program Pong using Scratch and later Java Script. I was fascinated by how I could make shapes and pictures move, which in turn fuelled my love for animation and solidified my career goal to be an animator and later storyboard artist.
I may have taken this job as an art camp leader just to earn *something* while I hunt down more storyboard positions in an increasingly narrow market, but I worry that this is a litmus test on where things are headed as genAI becomes even more shoved down our throats, and there are even less kid-friendly and kid-safe spaces online.

I'm honestly not quite sure how to feel about the new Doctor Who season.
It is waaaay too high budget. The stories are just as weird and unhinged as ever. It feels like it has something to say. The marketing is trying to sell it as this new era. It really is not. It feels like there was a major break somewhere. The exact same people are working on it as they did over a decade ago. It feels like they have something to say. The Doctor is Black now and the show is more outspoken queer / queer friendly. It feels like Chibnall's era had more people of color in it. It is using the same stupid tired tropes as it has for almost twenty years now. I just want to go back to exploring alien planets that all look like the British countryside. The Doctor keeps reminding us of how incredibly special he is even among Time Lords and Ruby is A Mystery To Solve. On one hand it has an outspoken pro-adoption and chosen family message, on the other Ruby's birth mother is going to be Important™. I just want them to have fun adventures in a quarry.
And none of this matters, because you could find this kind of joy and whimsy only in Doctor Who and Legends of Tomorrow, and Legends got cancelled for being too queer.

My favorite part of the Mandalorian from this week was when they showed the title of the episode “Guns for Hire” and then I started singing “Dancing in the Dark” with my mom.
Cause that song never fails.

💚🏳️🌈🇲🇽 This pride month I want us to remember Jesús Ociel
[Plain text: This pride month I want us to remember Jesús Ociel]
Jesús Ociel Baena Saucedo (1984-2023) was the very first non-binary person in Latin America to become an electoral magistrate, being a member of the Electoral Tribunal of Aguascalientes in Mexico since October 2022. They also received the first birth certificate to have the sex registered as Non-Binary, a big achievement in the recognition of Non-Binary people.
Amongst other things, they defended trans youth, gay marriage, the fair hiring of LGBTQ+ people in the INE and overall pushed for a public acceptance and the stop of discrimination against the LGBTQ+ community. Jesús was known for going to work with high heels, makeup and their iconic fan with the rainbow flag, often carrying the non-binary flag too, and they fought to give visibility to non-binary people. They won the hearts of thousands.
They are considered a very important figure for the LGBTQ+ movement, specially in Latin America, as they fought very hard to defend the rights of it, both socially and politically.
They were found dead with their partner, Dorian Daniel Herrera, in the 13th of November of 2023 in Aguascalientes, in their home. The prosecutor’s office affirms it was due to a fight the two of them had, but many say it was a hate crime; the murder of activists are not too uncommon in Mexico, and even more considering their gender identity and sexuality. The ‘crime of passion’ judgement is also often put when the death of an LGBTQ+ person happens.
Either way, their death has sparked movements to punish hate crimes, and their figure remains as a symbol of hope for a better future. Mexico has a long way to go for LGBTQ acceptance, but their actions have pushed towards that goal and their memory continues to push forward. I recommend you investigate further about them if you have the time.
And in your fight for LGBTQ+ rights and your celebrations this pride month, please do not forget about Jesús Ociel.
“We are, we exist, we resist and we go for the spaces that by right correspond us and that historically have been denied to us.”
- Jesús Ociel Baena Saucedo

[images ID: three images of a comic titled "one must imagine sisyphus happy" by druid-for-hire. it is a visual narrative beginning with someone with wrist pain (depicted by bright orange nerves) working at a drafting table. the reader is shown the same wrist as the person uses it for many everyday tasks such as carrying a grocery basket, pushing elevator buttons, typing, and doing dishes, until the pain dissolves all the panels into chaos. the person then performs several physical therapy exercises until the pain subsides. they sit back down at a desk with their laptop, sigh, and begin typing. a small spark of pain reappears. end id]
a fun little piece i made during the semester and submitted into our school comic anthology! (which you can buy at the Static Fish table at MoCCAFest in NYC ;] ). it's about artists and injury
