this one is really funny bc i have 1 wip of them being the gods, and this wip of them as the children of the gods set in a percy jackson-esque universe.

i haven't worked on this fic in a while but there's a solid enough foundation i think the snippet (under the cut) will make sense!

In fact, he hopes he can get another kiss out of the whole encounter, but Charles is sighing, standing up and tugging on the collar of his shirt, dragging Carlos with him. “Come on,” he says airily, dusting down his shorts, and tousling his perfectly styled hair. “It’s time for lunch.” Pointing down at the camp, he uses his other hand to take Carlos’, leading him down as if he hasn’t used this path countless times.

There are jeers and whistling from some of the other campers when they emerge, but Charles doesn’t drop his hand. Rumours have flown around about the two of them for more summers than Carlos cares to count. Lando spies him from the archery range, waving wildly in greeting. Carlos doesn’t have the chance to wave back, jerked yet another way by Charles’ iron grip. “Where are we–?”

“Lunch,” is the only answer he gets.

They’re, like, not really heading to lunch though. Unless the layout of the camp has completely changed in the months Carlos has been gone, the mess hall is in the opposite direction to which they’re moving in. He tries to fall in step with Charles but he’s making it much harder than it needs to be with the length of his stride. They walk past the Zeus and Hera cabins through to the Poseidon cabin, which Charles opens harshly with his shoulder, nearly knocking the door off its hinges. “You’re stronger these days,” he tries to joke, but Charles merely shoves him in, rolling his eyes. “What–”

“Gods,” Charles complains under his breath, hardly audible over the shut of the door behind them, “why can’t you take a hint?” Carlos only has a moment to try and comprehend the situation before Charles is walking them backwards, capturing his lips in a kiss so brutal he wonders whether the goal of all this is pain or pleasure. The air in the cabin has always been slightly salty, but Charles’ sweetness almost seems to be in a battle with it. Carlos loses himself in the embrace as his back hits the wall, arms hesitantly encircling Charles’ waist as his hands make their way along his jaw to his hair.

An embarrassing noise escapes from Carlos, and he can feel Charles smile against his mouth, grip lightly tugging on Carlos’ hair in retribution. Carlos would stay here forever if he could, hiding away from his responsibilities and lost in Charles’ embrace instead. He deserves it, after the last two, three, four, five years. If it’s what Charles wants too.

Charles leans back, nibbling on his bottom lip before he lets go. He doesn’t go too far. Carlos doesn’t think he could take it if he did. His breathing is heavier than normal, which he takes as a small victory along with the redness coating his whole face, stretching down his throat and disappearing into the neckline of his shirt. But even after all that, he still looks mildly irritated.

“What hint?” he asks incredulously, brows furrowing. He’s getting increasingly tired of being left out of the loop, especially like this.

But Charles steps back for real this time, clearly wanting to use his hands in what is sure to be an argument, and Carlos feels his loss immediately. “After this winter?” he says, as if that makes anything clear. “You don’t even check to see if I’m here? If I came?”

He sounds… he sounds something close to hurt. Carlos’ frown deepens. He’s actually seriously at a loss here. Much had happened last winter, but nothing immediately comes to mind. “What?”

“You–” And, yes, here is the hand irritated hand waving, accompanied by his signature pacing. If the other campers could see him now, the senior counsellor of the Aphrodite cabin losing his shit over Carlos of all people, well, it would cause serious scandal. “You’re so annoying!” he huffs out, and Carlos blinks.

He was. Well, expecting worse. “But, why?”

Charles covers his face in what seems to be a silent scream. “If you want to be together then we have to be together,” he stresses, glaring venomously at Carlos as if he’s a piece of mould on the wall and not someone he’s proposing a real romantic relationship to. “Stupid. You’re so stupid, gods.”

“But I didn’t even do anything!”

“Exactly!” he says, and now he’s more confused than ever. “You can’t just kiss me and then not make anything, you fool.”

“Do,” he corrects distractedly, trying to process the whole conversation. He cannot quite tell if Charles is speaking, well, normally, or if his words have a sweet tinge to them, fogging up his thoughts. He blinks and then looks back up at Charles in surprise. “You want to be together? With me?”

Charles closes his eyes, counting wordlessly to himself. After a beat, he says: “I’m going to drive my knife through you.”

Carlos is sure even his ears turn red. “Oh.”

“‘Oh’,” Charles mocks, but he’s red himself, too. That’s him blushing twice in one day. A new record. (Certainly not, but, come on. Carlos has earned the right to exaggerate.)

After a few moments of silence, they both speak up at the same time.

“So–”

“You–”

Carlos scratches the back of his neck in a nervous gesture, holding out his other hand for Charles to hopefully take. Hopefully is pushing it, because his arm doesn't feel like his own, but the air tastes salty again on his tongue. “Lunch?” he asks, avoiding his eyes. They’re green in this light, and he doesn’t think he’ll be able to look away if he does.

Charles clears his throat. “Okay,” he says indifferently, interlocking his fingers with Carlos’ as if that was a totally normal thing to do.

As if Carlos wasn't going to obsess over this for at least tonight.

honestly this fic has been kind of a headache to characterise bc half of their backstory is inapplicable due to their new parentage so. yeah. also i won't be hearing any complaints about their godly parents ESPECIALLY if its about charles (if you're thinking why not ares for carlos. you are thinking correctly)

Would you like to tell us more about your curtwen in Hatchetfield AU? I'd love to hear more about it because it's such an interesting idea, especially because of the roles you've put Curt and Owen in!

OH BOY WOULD I

Gonna start by answering, Yes there is Definitely Lords in Black shenanigans going on here

One of the things that I like and appreciate about the Hatchetfield series is that it takes very grounded characters and places them in situations that escalate in very insane ways, and when I think about Spies Are Forever, it's also a pretty crazy premise by the nature of it being a parody of classic spy films, but Curt and Owen at their cores are very grounded characters, so it made sense in a weird way to go "okay what if you added Hatchetfield weirdness"

There is Definitely something going on with Tinky and timelines in this universe and I mentioned it briefly in another ask, but the way I see it working is that the two of them experience similar timeline resets as Hatchetfield.

We see in Hatchetfield that the timeline resets, but time still moves forward (tgwdlm takes place in 2018, black friday takes place a month after that, nmpd takes places in 2021, all that stuff) and it's a similar idea for Curt and Owen. The events of saf still happen in this universe, and it doesn't stop repeating. With every reset the last time the two meet gets erased and placed further along the timeline as time keeps moving. So when Owen dies in 1961 and Curt dies years later, the next loop starts. Their story exists with different details in the 70's and 80's and 90's up until we see them here in 2022. But why is it that only these two are affected like this and why does it seem like the loops started so long ago if it's only just in this timeline that they're in Hatchetfield?

Well you see there's this Bastard of Time and Space-

Anyways as for Curt and Owen's rolls I had so much fun thinking of how details change in their lives and what constants keep showing up.

I mentioned it before but there are just events that keep repeating in each timeline, Curt loosing someone he cares about and being haunted by it, Owen just barely surviving and event that almost killed him and living with that trauma, and sadly, because this is saf and hatchetfield, one ends up dying in the end. Whether its because one has to kill the other or one gets the other killed, it's one of those tragic and unavoidable parts of their story.

As for the changes made in the au, Curt is a detective this time around for a number of reasons. One, I love the trope of the hardened detective left haunted by a case and thought it fit well with where we see Curt in the musical as well as the setting of Hatchetfield, and two, I had this idea that one of the weird constants for Curt is that he always has a title of some kind? It popped up as an idea for a much more meta reason, I know the way to differentiate the actor from the character is to call the character Agent Curt Mega, and there was a brief moment I considered making him an FBI agent Just so I could keep calling the character Agent Curt Mega, but I ended up falling in love with the idea of him being a detective. So we get Detective Curt Mega this time around.

As for Owen being an actor, I had this weird moment of "why would a British guy be visiting Hatchetfield of all places" and this is such a weird pull but I remember years back a detective show filming in my home town and went well what if there was some movie franchise filming in Hatchetfield and Owen was a part of it. It just felt like the kind of detail that you would see in a one off nightmare time story so it ended up sticking. From there Owen as an actor just ended up making sense to me, one as a reference to his act 2 monologue, two as a reason for why he would have a very varied skill set, and three, it felt like a good connection to his character as a spy.

(Also, Owen as an actor lets me make the very specific joke of him saying "Honestly, considering my spot-on aim and interest in foreign policy it's a wonder why I ever became an actor")

Owen stared down at the piece of paper ripped from an old folder, small and crumpled and a welcome sight, and he huffed a laugh. The chicken scratch was immediately identifiable to him, well versed with the wild nature of the strokes and the way that his O’s often had one too many loops. And, regardless, the wonky smiley face drawn down the bottom of the paper might as well have been a signature.

They say that absence makes the heart grow fonder, but Curt and Owen are going mad with missing their partner. When Owen finds a note from Curt tucked into his mission documents, it brings him comfort in a time where it's desperately needed. For reijeanweek day 5, I'd like to offer something for the prompt soulmates - something that can be barely classified as headcanons, just a very rough draft of something that might have taken place if aot world had soulmates.

My go-to soulmate subtrope for this outline is the soulmate's name appearing on the hand.

While Reiner and Jean do have each other's names written on their hands, therefore making them soulmates, but the problem is that Marley and Paradis are using different alphabets so they are unable to read each other's names since it looks like gibberish to them.

That is, until Reiner is sent to the Paradis and as a preparation for the invasion, he is taught Paradisian alphabet and can finally read the name. The revelation throws Reiner through a loop — since he realizes that his true love is actually one of the "Island Devils" that he is supposed to hate — but ultimately sows the future seeds of his disenchantment with the Marleyan propaganda.

Two years must pass after the Fall of Shiganshina before Reiner could finally meet Jean who, admittedly, doesn't make a great first impression but due to soulmate magic Reiner is head over heels for him nonetheless. Revealing the soulmate's name written is not very common (especially amongst the teenage boys who seem to be allergic to being vulnerable) and the fact that Reiner's name is not written in Paradisian alphabet would definitely raise some suspicions for Jean so Reiner decides not to reveal their soulmate bond to him, instead opting for pining for him by spending time during trainings and missions together.

Meanwhile, Jean has zero knowledge of the existence of the other alphabets so he is doomed to forever assume that the supposed name of his soulmate is nothing but gibberish. Ultimately Jean concludes that the one true love for him doesn't exists and becomes disenchanted with the concept of soulmates. That is, until Jean meets Reiner in the Cadet Corps. Unaware that one of his closest companions is, in fact, his soulmate, Jean begins to develop feelings for someone he believes is not destined for him. This leads him to contemplate the concept of serendipity, pondering the idea that he is free to love anyone of his choosing, rather than someone preordained by fate.

That belief is quick to change, though, once Reiner reveals his true allegiance and subsequently betrays Jean's feelings for him. After two battles against the Warriors — first within the interior of Wall Maria and second in Shiganshina — Jean finds himself completely heartbroken. In an attempt to cope, he comforts himself with the notion that love is ultimately not for him. Over the four years that follow, as Jean attempts to forget his feelings for Reiner and channel his sense of betrayal into hatred, he is utterly failing in both (in actuality it's just the soulmate bond the two of them have established over the year doing its magic).

Until the time comes for the Survey Corps to venture out onto the Continent where much later they start preparing for a raid on Liberio. Seeing as Jean was chosen to be one of the Paradis spies, he has to blend in with the Marleyan society which, of course, includes him learning the alphabet. And only then, seven years after their first encounter and living in ignorance, Jean realizes that Reiner was his soulmate all along. Many thoughts race through Jean's head at the onset of this revelation. Some of them are relief that he is in fact entitled to love in his life. Some of them are justified frustration with Reiner that never told him about this despite presumably finding out about that years in ahead. Yet, the most persistent thought lingering in his mind is the anticipation of their impending encounter in Liberio — an encounter that won't resemble the reunion of lovers in the slightest.

(But Jean will find him and make it work, at least one of them has to be decisive, after finally getting their chance to experience love again)

And that's essentially where it concludes, since I find myself at a loss for a fitting ending to this narrative. Consider this my collection of musings. It will await the insight of someone wiser who may craft a more logical ending for all of this.

This has been driving me crazy all afternoon and I have to put this down somewhere so feel free to ignore me;

I've been thinking about the who's the sexiest person that comes to mind immediately thing, and the my legit answer is my husband. He's not the most conventionally attractive man out there, but I love him so much, he makes me laugh, and just generally makes my day better by being within my line of sight. I could gush about him forever, but I'm not cuz I have thoughts to put down, but he's my person and I choose him every time.

That said, when I see/get questions like this, I get legitimately confused. What is sexy? Because I've been questioning my possible asexuality for almost 10 years now, and this is a question I honestly have trouble answering.

People are not sexy to me. They're a body, and to be honest, most of them look the same to me. I see actors/actresses on TV and movies and people I know (hubs included) tell me how hot they think they are but all I see is another guy with the same face as the other guy in the last thing I watched. That woman looks the same as this other one, and it's like a neverending loop of same person-ness, and it legit distresses me sometimes. Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney are considered some of the hottest people in Hollywood right and I they just look like average people to me.

But then I look at an animated character (Pitch, for example), and I wonder what makes him so attractive to me. Even Jack Frost looks like the cute, boy-next-door type (yes, this is a small commentary on the same faced models of Disney characters). But Jack's personality is different from most. He's snarky, he's mischievous, he's a moody teenager, but he's fun. He finds fun in every situation, and his biggest goal is to make everyone around him smile with it. He's charming outside of being simply cute. So what attracts me to someone like Pitch?

Physically speaking, he stands out. Studios seem to enjoy creating their villains to be the opposite of what's conventionally attractive to be what they would probably consider ugly. But it's not ugly, not really. It's beautifully human. People on the street don't look like they do in Hollywood; they're not model thin or rocking defined abs and a chiseled face. While those things may be considered attractive for some, they're not to everyone. Pitch has a long face, a big, wide nose, eyes set far apart, and he's lanky as hell. And I've see people with these features on the street, and they stand out more than the same-face models, and they're beautiful in their own way. Maybe even more so. Other characters that stand out similarly are (also villains, go figure) are guys like Killian from Spies in Disguise, Mandrake from Epic, and Bog from Strange Magic. That's not even getting into the classic Disney villains of Hook, Silver, Ursula, Ratigan, Rourke, Maleficent, Facilier - each of these villains have excellent designs, but because they're villains they were created with features in mind that are considered unattractive by most. They're either too fat or too lanky, with big noses and long faces. Animation can get away with having "ugly" characters like this. Real life can't because Hollywood only employs "beautiful" people.

But these characters all have personality. They're larger than life, dialed up to 11 every second they're on screen, and they're often the best parts of any animated feature, and in my own opinion, it's because they break the mold. They're allowed to be melodramatic because they're "ugly," they can strut their stuff because they don't fit the script, and they're often as unapologetic as it gets. So when Belle sees the true face of the Beast for the first time, we can't blame her for being disappointed. Adam looks just like the guy next door, and that's not the face she and we fell in love with. Ultimately, it's the good inside him that attracts her, not the face of the Beast, and she's smart enough to realize that, but that doesn't mean it doesn't take a moment to reorientate to the new normal. Now she's gotta struggle to pick him out of a crowd of similar looking men.

It's like those stories of guys like Hugh Jackman and Henry Cavill walking down the street in their superhero gear, and no one recognizes them. It's because they look like any average Joe on the street (I should probably mention im not attracted to either of them, either).

But then I hear a hot voice (Jude Law, my love) coming out of an unconventionally attractive face, with all the snark and wit I love in a personality, and boom! Instant attraction. I think about this for other animated crushes I've had, like Meg from Hercules who doesn't really fit the character model for Disney princesses and all her snark and wit, and I can easily name her my first female crush as a child. I've been attracted to more animated characters in my life than actual real people- usually a combination of interesting design, voice, and personality.

Which brings me to "aliens and monsters are sexy because they're not human because humans are unattractive to me unless they stand out somehow."
