Nothing will ever be as funny to me as the fact that society progressed so far in the time since 2005 that the demeaning homophobic jokes of vintage spn are now read as obvious signs of Dean Winchester's bisexuality. They based a cowboy on a bisexual man and tried so hard to make that cowboy straight that they accidentally manifested thee accurate long form portrayal of a closeted bisexual man on television. BiCon.

Can we talk for a moment about the Name Signs Shoshannah gave the Cast and their Characters?
and how they show us the Cast is v aware of Jensen's Dean kinning?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Misha's is a 'feelings' hand tapped next to his eye. I love that! I want to know if it's feeling coming from the eyes or shoshannah's favorite eyes. Jared's is a flat hand strumming against his face. Jensen's is a curved paw tapped on his chin. Shoshannah's, incidentally, is an 'S' hand rubbed against her chin, which is the part of the face used to denote femininity, and similar to the 'girl' sign.
The characters also have their own sign names.
Sam (One Handed Moose), Dean (Shaken 'D'), and Cas (One Wing):
Dean - shaken 'D' hand - Pointing up with the index finger, making a circle with your other fingers, then oscillating it.
Cas - single wing - 'Wings' sign would be mimicking flight with wings with both hands, then pointing to the hand, So I have to assume that means either pointing to a flat sideways hand with a thumb out, or 'flap flap' with one hand and then point at it. I love the idea of other characters hearing about this an calling Cas 'Wings' every once in awhile, tho I suppose Crowley already called him 'Feathers'
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sam's was "similar to "moose" except with one hand instead of two and without the branching out movement." Meaning 5 fingers spread wide with the thumb on the side of the forehead.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now. Can we talk about how Jensen, not Dean, but Jensen's name sign is a one handed version of the sign for squirrel?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The sign for 'squirrel' is two 2-fingered-paws tapping on each other. The sign for 'Jensen' is one of those hands tapping on the chin.
Wait wait wait - so. So while 'Sam' was an augmented Moose. Jensen was and augmented squirrel?! NOT DEAN, JENSEN?!
When Will The Dean Coding Stop? Never. Amazing. Shoshannah is our queen.
How much do you think it would it bother Sam that Eileen gave him Crowley's nickname for him? 😂 Shoshannah said she doesn't think it made it into the show, but now I REALLY want to watch for moments Eileen said their names. If anyone finds it let us know!
What I want to know is, what is Eileen's name sign?
Tweet Links: (x) Misha, (x) Jensen, (x) Jared, (x) Tweet with Character signs Essentially all gifs described except the last gif in which Misha teases Jensen for having a name sign like 'squirrel', prompting shoshannah and jensen to show the sign for 'squirrel' and then signs 'Jensen' on Jensen's chin with Misha's hand.

THE C*W JUST VERIFIED THE RUSSIAN SCRIPTS. BY RELEASING THIS DELETED SCENE THE NETWORK HAS INADVERTANTLY VERIFIED THE RUSSIAN SCRIPTS. (x) (x) (x)
AND CONFIRMED THAT THE SCENES IN THAT SCRIPT WERE LIKELY FILMED.
SO WHAT DOES THAT MEAN FOR JACK GRIEVING CAS? (x)
WHAT DOES THAT MEAN FOR DEAN VISUALLY GRIEVING CAS SO PLAINLY THAT EVEN MICHAEL UNDERSTANDS THAT'S WHAT'S HAPPENING? (x) (and Jack eating [PB&J])
WHERE ARE ALL MY CAS LINE ITEM VETOS. (x) (x)
WHERE IS MY WATERTOWER?
WHERE'S MY "WE KNOW WHAT THE FINAL SCENE THAT WE'RE GOING TO SHOOT IS" "I DON'T THINK THERE'S GOING TO BE A DRY EYE IN THE AUDIENCE" (x)
THE CW JUST INADVERTANTLY ADMITTED THAT THEY FILMED A VERSION OF THIS FINALE THAT ACKNOWLEDGED THAT CASTIEL EXISTED. THAT MOURNED HIM. AND LEFT IT ON THE CUTTING ROOM FLOOR.

EXCUSE ME?! Did Misha just confirm intention around season 10?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
@doctorprofessorsong just sent me this video from @waywardassbutt (x), and I legit gasped. Misha acknowledging he fought for the Cas confession is always something so personal, yes, but also he kinda confirms an intention from the show around five years prior. Five. Years. Prior.
"Five years prior would’ve said, "There is no fucking way they will let us do that." Who is the they in that sentence? [We know who]
And if I may try on this very fashionable chrome colored accessory, five years ago would land us in 2016, the year of the market research.
I've been thinking for some time now, becoming convinced that the caslighting involved keeping a front for the network. Bewitched could never admit to being a gay allegory, Xena couldn't, not while staying on the air.
Extra gif for that warm smile at the end, devilish look in the eye. I'm seeing so many of these today, lovely people paying top dollar to be able to tell Misha just how much the scene he fought for, the character portrayal, meant to them and the good he's put out into the world. That's beautiful. 🌈 So many people came out, whether to the community or to themselves, after Cas got his moment on television. They erased him but they couldn't erase the effect that he had. (Tanscript in the original.)

That Drink Pour - a Meta Homage to Ben-Hur & Classic Hays Era Queercoding?
Tumblr media
This 6x06 scene  - was strange to say the least
Tumblr media
(Left) Boyd, Mentally playing this as a sex scene                        (Right) Heston, Has no idea what the director told Boyd
Long post analysis of the pour under the cut
Ben Hur came out in 1959 based on a 1880 novel, Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ. It won 11 Academy Awards. The tangentially biblical saga checked every box for "morality" and "red blooded" American film, including a staring roll for macho menman Charlton Heston. They wanted Paul Newman or Rock Hudson, but they got Charlton Heston.  If you asked the general audience, the movie portrayed the tragic turn of two profoundly loyal friends to bitter enemies. But what if we asked the screen writer? 🤔
Enter a fateful conversation between screenwriter Gore Vidal and director William Wyler about the exact nature of the two characters, Ben-Hur (Heston) and Messala.  Gore Vidal revealed in 1995 that he wrote the two as ex-lovers who became bitter enemies. Full stop. The head screenwriter told director Wyler that they could do it all in subtext, they needn't say a single line of dialogue. It would go over the heads of most of the audience, but to those who understood? it would be absolutely clear. Wyler said okay, but don't tell Heston.
And so, Vidal crafted a sex scene for his characters. Where one slowly poured a drink for the other. The writer was in on it. The director was in on it. and Stephen Boyd, the actor playing Messala was in on it. ... but Cheston had no idea. “So Heston thinks he’s doing Francis X. Bushman [Ben-Hur in the silent version]. And Stephen Boyd is acting it to pieces. There are looks that he gives him that are just so clear.”   - Vidal
Tumblr media
The music swells.
Tumblr media
/\ in on it                  completely in the dark /\
38 years later the writer recounted the story in the documentary 'The Celluloid Closet' and Heston promptly lost his shit. A shade filled response from Videl can be found here. (x)
It was a story about two friends. Two loyal friends. Who trust each other completely. Who share a profound bond with each other. The writer is secretly coding them as lovers, until, ultimately, one betrays the other. The characters never kiss on screen, but have elaborate rituals to be coded as sex in ways that will slip past the censors. Hmm.  🤔
What was the plot of Supernatural season 6 again?
Wasn't there an episode?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
/\ Jensen Ackles                   Misha Collins /\
6x06 You Can't Handle the Truth Written by Eric Charmelo, Nicole Snyder, & David Reed Directed by Jan Eliasberg Sam and Dean investigate a town plagued by Veritas, where people can't help telling the truth.
The scene feels like an amalgamation of the Ben Hur scene and a scene from North by Northwest by Hitchcock where a queercoded character, Leonard, pours whiskey into a glass to imply violation of the male lead. That actor,  Martin Landau, since acknowledged that he played the character of Leonard as gay. (x)
The rest of the season, at least the episodes from writers who were in the ‘club’ include this long arc where Cas is secretly working with Crowley, “to protect Dean”, in a plotline coded as an affair.   The reveal really started in 6x17 (x), but the coding  was never more clear than in 6x20 The Man Who Would Be King: Dean unable to fathom Cas ‘cheating on him’ (x)  and the troubled reveal that Cas got Sam out of the cage. (x) The orange glow of the fire an pain in their eyes when Dean discovers Cas was working with Crowley (x)  “You make it sound so simple. Where were you when I needed to hear it?” “I was there. Where were you?” (x) That stab through the chest when Dean looks back at Cas before running out the door. (x) Commentary on 6x20 (x)
When did the writers begin to write Destiel in purposely?  We already know that Misha was playing Cas a certain way on his own, but When did the writers and Misha come together on what they were doing? Was Jensen aware of what was happening? If so, after what point? “Don’t ruin it for everyone” “No???”  “Destiel Doesn’t Exist.” “We’re missing the gay angel” “It’s always Dean (with the bromances)” These are questions I think about often. Much more on that in an ongoing long draft that will take a long time.

A post about timing and what happened 5 seasons before the confession:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
@dubiousculturalartifact was a hero for 1) noticing the ships the restaurant is decorated with during The Things We Left Behind, 2) finding the restaurant, & 3) confirming that the ships were added to the decor for the shot.
It reminds me of a possible ship audio easter egg I found in my rewatch of Mother's Little Helper, Misha's directorial debut, 9x17 where the TV plays an informercial about a product to cure the 'chipping yips' (x)
So in season 10, a season after the 'jilted lover' direction from Carver, the nightstands, the 'Who Do You Love?' amv road so far setting up a triangle with drowley and destiel, the deleted pine triangle motel scene, the heaven full of half naked Deans, and the brokeback jacket hug cut away, we got what fans refer to as the destiel date & the bisexual shirt, with intentionally placed ships that are not in the shot when Cas is shown with Claire.
This gets followed by the deleted 'maybe he's your boyfriend', the deleted second drowley proposal with a side of bi panic, the freaking Collette parallel, and for whatever reason these ships are now haunting my mind. Ever since I saw their post my thoughts keep bringing me back to what Misha said last month at galaxycon:
Tumblr media
"I think that him making that declaration of love... I cared about that. I thought it was important, I kinda fought for it. and ya know five years prior would've said, 'There is no fucking way they will let us do that.' "
Original Tweet (x) | Original Post on Ships (x) Misha cameo gif (x) from this creation con video (x)
Happy Pride Everyone. You weren't crazy.

Okay. Okay. ... Okay.
So Jensen worked out with Christian Kane that he should slap Dean's ass and Dean should call him a Kinky son of a bitch.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jensen read that script, saw that bi-lighting, in the bar named Swayze's (x), and said "yes, slap my ass", & responded "you kinky son of a bitch"? ...
Chaos Machine can have anything it wants
EDIT: I could have sworn I heard that. I must have watched it too close to a clip of Jus in Bello. @deanismypatronass Am I the only one who thinks that audio is weird, like ADR weird? Probably in the song track. (Usually things like singing are done in studio and then actors lip sync along, which brings up for me, when was that ass slap worked out?)

The yellow draft of Atomic Monsters contains 4 pages where Becky tells Chuck that no, actually, fanfiction and fanart are both extremely valid, that the story no longer belongs to Chuck but to the fans. Based on the numbering, these four pages replaced what was only one page in the original draft. By this draft an action sequence with Benny had also already been added in that expanded the script about that number of pages. Jensen had requested that change.
So - it is entirely possible that Jensen spoke up about validating the fans in this scene with Becky and Chuck.
In this scene that Davy Perez set in a room lined with real fanart sourced from real fans of the show, including gifts the actors had received at conventions years earlier.
When Becky tells chuck that fanfiction is real writing, when she rips apart Chuck's writing (also expanded), when she says, "You can't do this to the fans!" she does it with the entire fandom behind her.
Until we hear otherwise, I'm going to have to assume that Davy Perez and Jensen Ackles had something to say.

I'm always accidentally calling the hot bi cajun vampire from spn "Benny Lestat" instead of "Benny Lafitte". No way that name was an accident.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lestat and Louis are canonically a bi4bi couple in the book - which is told from Louis's perspective. Interactions with Benny are usually told from Dean's perspective. Meanwhile Cafe Lafitte is a gay bar in NOLA - interesting.

Thinking about Misha's Cameo to Spencer and all queer & trans fans (x)
Thinking about how he said the fact that Castiel’s Declaration of Love at the end of Supernatural gave queer and trans fan some validation was super important to him. "made my arc on the show feel relevant and worthwhile."
Thinking about how other people might have said representation. How articles talking about Destiel paid lip service to how important queer or bisexual representation on television is, but how that's not what he said.
How on any other show it would be merely about the fact that the character exists, but on this show the characters have always existed, basically always been queer, but the fans who saw that had been invalidated by the network and creators.
Thinking about the fact that he didn't say Cas's arc, how he said "my arc." and now I'm thinking I'm feeling things about this
You're not crazy. I might be though. (x)

Handprint on the jacket, visible to the world even though the iconic shot was all about the fact that the handprint was under the shirt sleeve, not visible right away, so painful yet had as of yet gone unnoticed. This iconic moment in television history that only happened because of a conversation born out of fateful inconveniences. This handprint happening on the very last day of shooting before the world shut down, being visible in the shot, could not be erased. That for continuity's sake had to be carried forward into 15x19, the clearest and maybe only clear indication that Castiel ever existed on the show that survived the edits.

I’m done this time. I... Help. Just Read This.
Billie is shown reading a comic book while waiting for Dean to return from hell in Season 11′s  The Devil’s in the Details.  So I was curious and I went frame by frame.   What was the comic you ask?
Tumblr media
Death: The Time of Your Life by Neil Gaiman
Which won the GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Comic Book in 1997.
The story focuses on Foxglove and her lesbian partner, Hazel, from the Sandman series. When Hazel’s son dies, Death appears as a teenage goth girl to take him and Hazel makes a deal with Death: If Death lets their son live, one of them will take his place when Death returns for the family. Foxglove doesn’t think she loves her partner anymore but  “You followed me into Death, because I needed you. What do you think love is?
If SPN was planned out and good, this would foreshadow not only Cas’s deal with the Empty, not only the good finale we never got to see where Dean goes to the Empty to save Cas, but even Billie becoming Death after dying a season after this scene.
As it stands, I think they put in a joke about Billie reading a comic about death, that may have been intentional queercoding, and then, years later, Andrew Dabb accidentally ripped off the plot of a Neil Gaiman story he loves... or if we’re generous, it was an homage.

I can't find the original post and I haven't for 2 weeks so I will just say this. Before Sam closes the closet doors, Dean opens them.
We're in Tombstone and the writers, and Dean, have finally, FINALLY, cracked open the closet doors.
Tumblr media
This is after the market research, after the events of season 12 I see as Dean's self acceptance (x). This is after the damn widower arc (x), and Jody's counter to Dean's speech telling patience to stay in the closet. (x). And. I really now suspect. This is when Jensen finally was let in on the game. (x)
Tumblr media
These episodes are when I stopped believing there was any chance this wasn't canon. In the first quarter of season 13 we got to see canon destiel, canon Dean Winchester. And then Sam, and the Network, close the closet doors again. As if they could put the stopper back in the bottle.
Tumblr media
But there was just no containing it after that.
