“Yeah, but who can do that.” Tony asked out loud. They had a urgent mission but there were parts that none of them could do. 

“None of us can. Not even Nat.” Steve let out a sigh. Tony was right, as annoying as that was.

Nat looked to Clint with knowing eyes. “We could call her in.”

Clint let out a frustrated sigh. “Nat”

Everyone was getting confused now as they watched the two spys. “She’s been dying to help and she just got backfrom her mission over seas.” Natasha added, knowing she was right that girl always talked to her. Told her everything.

“You advocate for my daughter more than you do for anyone else.” Clint glared at the redhead but there was no malice in it.

Nat shrugged. “I like her more than anyone else.”

“Who are you both talking about?” Bruce asked the question that was on everyones mind.

“Clint’s oldest daughter.” Natasha stated looking towards the others.

“y/n.” Clint told them her name. It’s not that he didn’t want Y/n on the team. Hell she was already an agent, it’s just he would be so focused on making sure she’s okay. That could endanger the others or at the very least himself. And he didn’t want her to get hurt. Or at least have to see it happen.

“You have another kid? You Bartons are very busy.” Tony said under his breath. They do have a lot of kids.

“She’s an agent?” Wanda asked with her head tilted.

“Yes, trained by me and Nat ourselves.” Clint nodded explaining a bit more about her to his friends that he considered family.

“Could she help?” Steve asked crossing his arms.

“Your call, you know how I’d vote.” Natasha stated as Clint looked to her for her input.

Clint nodded letting out a sigh. He just didn’t want her to get hurt, him being there and he couldn’t do nothing about it. But Nat was right. They needed her. “Fine. I’ll call her.”

“Where is she? We’re about to leave.” Tony questioned as they stood in the quinjet, waiting for this young Barton Agent to get there.

“She’ll be here.” Natasha stated glaring at Tony. She’s very protective also of Y/n.

“Paticnce, Tony.” Steve said trying to defuse the conversation before anything could happen or be said.

“There she is.” Natasha nodded towards where a girl probably in her early 20’s was coming from a black SHIELD SUV dropped her off.

“Thats Bartons daughter?” Bruce asked with squinted eyes. She was older than mot of them expected, most of his kids were a good portion younger.

“Her names Y/n or as she’s called in the field hummingbird.” Nat stated, they really couldn’t call her by her name? That was ridiculous. Y/n is more than just Clint’s kid. She’s her own person.

“Why hummingbird?” Wanda asked curiously, while everyone else just thought ‘another Barton with a bird code name’.

“She hums to distract her targets and she can move fast so they look one way but she comes around from the other.” Natasha explained kindly to Wanda as she was the only one in Nat’s eyes not being rude about her niece.

“The bird family.” Tony snarked which earned him a glare from not only Nat.

“Well, she did inherit Clint’s sense of sight.” Bucky spoke up which caused all eye’s to turn to him. Which made him uncomfortable, Bucky shrugged his shoulders before continuing. “What? It’s in her file. And I’ve ran into her before. Back when I was the Winter Solider.”

“Everyone.” Clint said as him and Y/n walked up the ramp of the quinjet. Clint had been waiting axniously for her to arrive. “This is Y/n. My daughter. Y/n everyone.”

“Hey everyone.” Y/n said smiling giving a small wave to all the Avengers. Then her focus turned to the two people infront of her she already knew. “And hi, Nat. Bucky.”

“You know Bucky?” Clint turned his attention to his daughter so fast it scared her abit.

Y/n shifted on her feet biting her lip not knowing what to say to her father about this. ‘Hey dad Fury sent me on a mission when I was only 17 and I ran into the Winter Solider’. No, that wouldn’t work. “Uhhhh, top secret mission.”

“Y/n-” Clint went to start interagetting her but Y/n cut himoff.

“Ask Fury. Okay?” she raised her hands in surrender.

Before Clint could question her anymore Tony spoke up wanting to get the mission started as soon as possible. “Alright. Let’s see what you can do. Let’s go.”

“Got a suit?” Steve sked with kind eyes.

“Yup.” Y/n gave him a nod.

“Then Suit up.” Steve nodded backwith a smile.

“This is gonna be fun.” Y/n sat next to Nat with a huge smile on her face. She was excited to finally get to work with her dad and Aunt Natasha. They trained her after all.

“Just don’t do anything to scare your dad. Got it? Or me.” Natasha smiled she to was excited but she was also nervous for the same reasons as Clint.

“I got it. Besides I want to be able to help you guys again.” Y/n nodded trying to get her to not worry as much. There was no way Y/n was gonna be reckless. She wanted to work with them all again someday.

Guests entering the zoo on January 1 (New Year's Day) on the in-game calendar will be sick.

October is Dinosaur Month! Purchase all dinosaurs at half price during the in-game month of October.

On October 31 on the real world calendar, all guests and buildings wear orange and black in honor of Halloween, a jack-o-lantern is available from the buildings and items menu, and a wicked witch flies over the zoo on a broomstick.

Your mentions of Zootopia's failure as an anti-racism metaphor made me wanna gush about how Birdboy skirts around this predator/prey dynamic.

In Birdboy, our outcast heroes are a bird, a mouse, a rabbit, and a fox; all animals considered pests to some degree and all of them trapped or hunted. The school bullies and all the cops are dogs, with the dropout rookie cop's character arc being this progression from questioning his mentor's bigotries to becoming complicit in the police corruption.

Dogs are trained to hunt and aid in the hunting of birds, rodents, foxes, and small game like rabbits. Prey drive is innate to a degree, but dogs can be encourged or discouraged from acting on it

Also all of these pest animals representing our heroes have been kept as pets, even foxes (though they shouldn't be, but that's it's own topic), just like dogs. And these characters in the movie aren't perfect kids. They can be rash and selfish and insensitive, but they're vulnerable to the ones deemed protectors and all are to some degree neglected by the ones who should be caring for them. They're targeted for not being what's expected of them whether due to racism or the stigmas attached to being mentally ill, homeless, or an addict and yet they can't rely on anyone to help because they know they're seen as pests even if this isn't explicitly stated. It doesn't have to be. Look at the way they're treated and the world they live in. How could they see it any other way?

I dunno, man, Birdboy did so well with the animal symbolism aspect and is critical of police as an institution and treats addicts and the mentally ill with tenderness and respect and nobody talks about it. None of this even touches on the garbage rat cult.

I haven’t seen it (just the Steve Reviews video lol) but animal allegory stories definitely aren’t anything new; we can go back to Aesop’s Fables, for instance, to see animals used to illustrate human issues. In examples such as “Maus,” it’s clear that the story isn’t about mice and cats, but they’re used to illustrate power imbalances enforced by the Nazis during ww2.

The issue I have with “Zootopia” is it doesn’t seem to be sure what it’s trying to say through the use of allegories. In the movie, the “predator” animals historically oppressed the “prey” animals, but in the modern society, they’re the ones facing oppression. And as I said earlier, if the animals used to hunt each other in the past and the predators are used as an allegory for racism faced by POC, it implies the validation of extremely harmful stereotypes about racial minorities being inherently violent, specifically towards white people. even the film’s use of the words “predator” and “prey” imply a power imbalance in its modern world, when they could have opted for a far more neutral “carnivores and herbivores.” Zootopia also tries to steer clear of racial coding by making all the stereotypes and tensions in the movie based on animal stereotypes (ie, “sly fox” and “dumb bunny”), but it also gets confusing when it makes clear references to specific racial issues. for example, when Judy says “a bunny can call another bunny cute,” we’re supposed to understand that as a reference to the reclamation of racial slurs among the people they were used to target, or when someone tells a cheetah to “go back to the jungle” and the cheetah replies, “I’m from the savanna,” referencing discrimination against immigrants and their descendants. So whether the movie is colorblind or not in its coding is hard to say, along with who it’s coding as what.

I want to say that Zootopia had good intentions, but is a flawed allegory. I don’t even think I would call it a bad movie; if it wasn’t trying to be an allegory for human racial issues, it has a fun plot, beautiful visuals, and clever dialogue and characters. I think the writers wanted to tell a story about why racism is bad (especially considering this was during the Trump presidency, when backlash to his ideology meant a widespread national interest in various social issues), but didn’t think hard enough about the implications of the allegories in the story. It’s also probably not something the average viewer is really going to think about when watching the movie as a piece of entertainment, but I think if we tell racial allegories, or any sort of allegory, they need to be handled with clarity in order for them to be effective.

Gather Conference

This looks like it will be very good! It is for LGBTQ Latter-day Saints and those who love them. September 15-16th in Provo, Utah.

I’m really impressed at the group of people they have involved in this.

Steve Young - famous football player, stood against Prop 8 in California and for the LDS Church being more loving & inclusive of the LGBTQ community

Darius Gray - a Black man who joined the LDS Church in 1964, one of the first Black students at BYU, one of the founders of the Genesis Group, involved in the "Race and the Priesthood" essay, a supporter of LGBTQ rights and the church expanding to fully include them 

Charlie Bird - gained fame as the BYU mascot Cosmo the Cougar who publicly came out as gay, author of the books “Behind the Mask” and “Expanding the Borders of Zion”, co-hosts the podcast Questions from the Closet, is an active LDS church member and public about having a boyfriend

Ben Schilaty - co-hosts the podcast Questions from the Podcast with Charlie Bird, they are the two most well-known gay men still active in the LDS Church. Ben wrote the book “A Walk in My Shoes: Questions I'm Often Asked as a Gay Latter-day Saint”, and works for the BYU Honor Code Office

Tom Christofferson - older brother of the LDS apostle Todd Christofferson. Is best known for leaving his long-time partner in order to rejoin the LDS Church and writing “That We My Be One: A Gay Mormon's Perspective on Faith and Family”, then publicly announced that he has begun dating

Allison Dayton - is founder of Lift+Love which seeks to provide a positive, uplifting space for LGBTQIA+ LDS church members and their families & friends

Liv Mendoza Haynes - best known from the 2021 BYU Women's Conference when Sharon Eubank presented her and Liv announced she is queer and that she once left the LDS Church but returned and shared the story of a bishop who made her feel welcome and asked how to make the ward a safe space. Iese Wilson - best known for his work of building bridges at BYU-Hawaii, where he publicly came out gay. His efforts include co-founding Hawaii’s first LDS LGBTQ+ support group off campus for students and staff of BYU-H, helped create and host the first LGBTQ+ fireside on the BYUH campus, and offered the first LGBTQ+ awareness training for the Guest Services Department at the Polynesian Cultural Center

He is a former president of Affirmation and co-founded Emmaus LGBTQ Ministry which aims to works for the safety, well-being and happiness of LGBTQ people in and adjacent to the LDS Church

Ally Isom - a public affairs professional who has worked for LDS Church as head of global branding, in 2021 ran against Senator Mike Lee to be the  Republican nominee for senate, known for her work for gender equity. In 2017 she helped the church restructure the mormonandgay website by changing the language to be less divisive and to include videos of queer members sharing their stories. She works to improve understanding between the Church and the LGBTQ community

Erika Munson - in 2012 she co-founded Mormons Building Bridges which is most famous for having LDS people dressed in their Sunday best march in Pride parades, and in 2019 co-founded Emmaus LGBTQ Ministry which provides affirming monthly devotionals and events to LGBTQ people and their families in and adjacent to the LDS Church

It was another afternoon Saturday, the sun was shining and the birds were chirping. What a lovely day you thought. You were behind the cashier and had your hands on your face, staring at your beautiful girlfriend,Robin Buckley.She was putting up movies on the romance aisle.Your heart skips a beat every time someone says her name,” she’s all mine” you thought. All yours.

The door was swung open and the bell went ringing with it. The first thing you saw was the red head that Robin was talking about after you guys started dating. Vickie. You never liked her, she would always look at you whenever you were with and without Robin. She never acted this way towards you before you guys started dating.

You swallowed a lump that was formed in your throat,” hi there, how may I help you?” You said to her with a weak smile. Vickie scoffed and looked around, it was like she was trying to find somebody. You sighed and went to the back room that said “EMPLOYEES ONLY”. You knocked on the door with your knuckles and said “Steve, we have a visitor.”

“Huh? We always have visitors that come in and come out, what’s different about this one?” He said while unlocking the door to see you. “It was a code: Vickie.” You said with a blank face, seriously what was he doing in the employee room everyday? “Ahh, yeah give me a second” he said while locking the room and putting the keys inside his pockets.

While you guys both made your way there, you saw Vickie and Robin giggling and laughing. Your heart shattered. This was the girl that Robin absolutely adored before you guys actually became a thing. “Hey ladies, how you doing Vickie.” He said while standing there with criss-crossed arms,leaning on the shelves with the latest movies.

He always got upset if they got dirty but he was leaning on them. Seriously, you could never figure Harrington out. “Oh nothing much” Vickie said while looking up at Steve then at Robin. They both start giggling again. Steve shot a glance at you and made a face that said “you wanna take care of this?” And all you did was nod and look at them both. Ready to say something, until Robin spoke.

“Hey guys, the new movies should be at the back room. You guys wanna grab them or do you need help? I shouldn’t be the only one doing the work.” Robin said while getting up and patting her pants down. “I’ll put them on the shelves on Monday, me and Steve can do it.” You said with a snap. Vickie also got up and looked at Robin.

“Hey Rob, don’t forget to come tonight.” Vickie said while smiling and looking inside robins eyes. “Yeah yeah definitely” Robin said,giving her a smile. Steve had enough with this and went back to the back room again, all that was left was you. Vickie gave her a huge hug, her arms were placed around Robin’s neck which soon caught her off guard,and she had her head on her shoulders.

She glared at you and smirked. Robins back was facing you so she didn’t have a clue what was going on. Vickie then detached herself from her and winked,”see you there rob”. The door swung open again and the bell was the only thing you could hear,until Robin broke the silence.

“Can you believe it (y/n)? She gave us an invitation to her birthday party tonight! She’s so nice!” She said while holding an envelope on the other hand. “Yeah that’s cool, I don’t think I’ll be going though so.” You said, while Robin heard what you said, her face turned upside down. Making a frown.

“How come? Do you have plans tomorrow?” Robin asked you.” Well no but I just don’t wanna see Vickie at the moment.” You said while you shrug your shoulders, not making eye contact with Robin at all. “What? You don’t wanna go because Vickie’s there? Come on don’t be childish. It’s her birthday, of course she’s going to be there” Robin said with an upset tone,half jokingly.

“Childish? I’m not being childish right now Robin. I’m being serious, that girl hate my guts. And if I change my mind I’ll go, it’s just that I can’t really think at the moment.” You said while glaring at her blue eyes. “You’re being ridiculous, what has she ever done to you?” She snapped back.

You never saw this side of Robin, she’s all defensive for this one girl that she took band class with. “I’m not being ridiculous Robin, she gives me some cold glares whenever I walk with you to your classes. She even hugged you and put her hands around you, it looked like you guys were a couple.” You said, almost cracking. You were shocked that Robin would say this to you, you thought she would understand.

“You know what, if you’re not gonna come,then so be it (y/n).” Robin turned around and left the store. How could she just leave you like that? Over some stupid party. Steve came to comfort you, it seems like he was behind the cash register all along. Just listening. You stepped back and hit the shelves and dragged yourself down to form into a ball.

Steve slowly approaches you and sits right beside you. “Don’t worry (y/n), cry as much as you want. I closed the store earlier so. It’s gonna be okay, she didn’t mean what she said.” He said while he pats your back. “Yeah,maybe she didn’t mean any of it.” You sniffed.

“Let’s go to that stupid party and show that Vickie girl whose Robin’s girlfriend.” Steve said with a smile on his face looking at you. Surprisingly that made you smile too.

After picking out a dress which took forever. You quickly did your makeup and put on the dress. You didn’t go too overboard because it was a party but you didn’t go underdress because it was Vickie’s birthday party. Just wanted to show who Robin’s girlfriend is and who she chose who over the other.

You got outside and saw Steve in a outfit that matches yours. He opened the door for you to get inside his car. You sat on the passenger seat and Steve closes the door and makes his way and sits on the drivers seat. “You ready?” He said while turning on the car.

“Ready as I’ll ever be” you said with a smile. You took a couple of deep breaths and Steve then drove his way to Vickie’s.

As soon as you made it there, cars were filled in front of Vickie’s house. You could see a disco ball inside and the colors just beaming out. As soon as you and Steve opened the door, all you could see was Vickie and some of her friends standing on the table,flicking their hair and having a single red cup on their hand. It reeked with the smell of alcohol. But you saw another dirty blonde girl, against the wall and drinking. It was Robin. She shot a look at you and just looked surprised.

She made her way towards you with all this people while Steve closed the door behind him and stayed close to you. As soon as Robin made it,she yelled “you look beautiful (y/n)!!” She said with a smile curling on her face. You could barely hear her with the music that was playing behind the background. You were about to say thank you before Vickie stands beside Robin. She gives you another cold glare,only for a split second. “Hii rob, whatchu doing here all alone? You should dance with me.” She said while looking inside robins eyes.

“You wanna dance with me?” Robin said with a confused look. You could always read Robin and what her expressions were, she seems confused but you feel like there’s something else. “Well yeah, only if you want to that is” she said,with an innocent smile. Oh cut the crap already, you could see right through her. She was only messing with robins feelings and you and Steve knew that.

You and Steve both exchanged a look and stared at Vickie. “You know it’s not nice to stare at people (y/n)!” Robin said while Vickie is all against her. You don’t know if she was still sober or drunk. But, she’s still defending her, even if if she’s drunk or not. Which upsets you to your core.It was coming out of your own girlfriends mouth, felt like a stab in your chest. Vickie grabbed robins arm and made their way dancing underneath the disco ball.

The room started to get darker for you, the more you stared at them. The more you felt overwhelmed and almost, alone. Of course you had Steve with you, that makes things a little better but it hurts so much. How could she do this to you, over some stupid damn party. Emotions overflow inside you and you start to ball your fist, shit. Why me? Of all people,why me? What did I do to deserve this kind of treatment?

“Hey everything’s gonna be alright, I swear it. Hey- I’ll even shower you with kisses and cuddles but x10 better- or is that possible?- well anyways- what I wanted to say was, you’re in my arms (y/n). I’m not going anywhere. I love you.” It was Robin, it was a flashback of Robin. All the memories you could’ve thought about and you chose that,in this moment?

I think Steve being autistic probably comes from the age old saying 'birds of a feather flock together' making his traits more noticeable to the audience. You can definitely see it more with Robin and Dustin. Learning difficulties in school are often due to neurodivergence causing people to struggle in the school system. Steve's college essay being bad is basically explained as simply Steve being an idiot. But who likes that kind of attitude? Also his dynamic with Robin where they want to merge into the same being when Robin does seem to be more clearly autistic coded. His crawling backwards being a parallel to her struggling to learn to walk. Steve is more ambiguously neurodivergent coded but there is so much crossover, when I went to a screening about my learning difficulties they gave me three possible diagnoses, all of which I had significant traits such that it was justifiable I could be tested (one of them autism).

i can see a lot of autistic traits in steve! and yeah, i think as he’s become friends with more autistic coded characters (dustin and robin) those traits have come out more and more. you could say those traits come out more because steve does this thing where he imitates his friends to ‘fit in’, but that can also be an autistic thing, so…

some of steve’s moments could just be attributed to him being stupid, rather than him being nd, but i hate that interpretation.

robin and steve are literally two bffs that want to combine into one, who would they be without autism.

Dustin and Suzie headcanons because they are the most adorable couple on the show and don’t get enough screen time and I felt like rectifying that:

At the Summer camp, Suzie introduced herself to Dustin first. She said she liked his hair.

One night at camp, they showed each other their favorite star. Now they can identify each other’s favorite star instantly.

Another time at camp, the two took a boat out on a lake and that’s where they both discovered they liked singing and practiced their iconic “Neverending Story” duet

The two absolutely nerd out over something cool they learned that day in school

Because their family dynamics are so different, they always love hearing about the ins and outs of each other’s lives in the little ways

Suzie rarely complains about her siblings, but when she does, she apologizes, but Dustin always assures she that she can vent all she wants

Because Dustin also likes to complain about his friends (and it’s usually Steve or Mike)

Dustin reassures her every time they talk that their connection on Cerebro is secure and confidential - often announcing it like a newscaster at the start of their “calls” just to be safe. Suzie thinks it’s adorable.

The two accidentally refer to each other in pet names even when talking to other people

Suzie sends Dustin funny and “not inappropriate” graphic tees

Dustin sends Suzie cute scrunchies and birdwatching books

Suzie grew to like birdwatching after discovering interesting birds from her window and then went outside to do it more intentionally

Both of them are decent cooks because they have tricks to measure out proportions without measuring utensils

Dustin introduced all of his friends to Suzie at one point over the Summer of 85. Suzie liked Eleven and Will the most (but won’t tell the others that, obviously)

but im making a steddie-centric post :( im so sorry lesbians i hope u can forgive me bc im adding ronance in here as often as i can

starting with steve! i’m going with the classic cockatoo for multiple reasons: reason #1) they’re super lively, affectionate, and they make really strong bonds. reason #2) that HAIR

yeah im making a hair joke OKAY. cockatoos also need a lot of attention and affection which is like steve’s base need to survive, they’re literally known as “the velcro bird” like come on

making both nancy and steve cockatoos is an intentional choice, it added to their “they’re a perfect couple!” factor in high school and steve took it as meaning nancy and him were soulmates or smth. nancy liked it because it was as perfect as she needed it to be. i think they really do still have that bond as having a lot of similar needs and enjoyment in children’s princess tents, and they are way closer when they admit there’s nothing romantic between them.

regular cockatoos are bigger than galahs and yeah steve’s wings are p big and he flexes that shit HARD, even though he gets kinda dunked on cause cockatoos r pretty and not... carnivorous? is that the main manly bird flex idrk im a lesbian

steve is super physically affectionate, mainly with robin but he quickly extends it to nancy and eventually eddie when they get close, it’s how he gives and receives love and it’s fun okay

onto eddie and YEAH im being stereotypical abt this one bc that mf is so raven coded. emo ass wings. yeah. and before u ask: yes im a firm believer eddie is confident no insecure mf will actively stand up on a lunch table and make a joker society speech okay. he’s curious and he struts and he’s intelligent! also the more talented flier in the steddie dynamic even though his wings are thoroughly messed up bc he absolutely doesn’t care for them. steve and nancy have the same “wtf let me fix it” instinct its true

also random stobin hc steve saw robin’s messed up wings and wanted to fix them but every time he really tried robin kinda pulled away? making it clear that steve is still robin’s BEST friend and they care for each other deeply but i think robin places a certain weight on an activity like that and when nancy was like “dude wtf” she was kinda floored and was surprised with how okay she was letting it happen. steve respects robin’s boundaries regarding her wings immensely but that fucker absolutely nags her for it and robin is always like “what was that? oh im sorry i thought i heard someone with absolutely 0 bitches say smth”

okay back to eddie but steve is always the one that has to wrestle eddie to get him to sit still and clean up his wings and when he’s done eddie is shocked his wings feel normal and not awful and steve is like “go fucking figure”

eddie’s wings are sleek and long and, when cared for, glossy as hel;. his feathers are super distinct and for some reason i feel like he sheds so steve is always like “eddie was here.....” when eddie walks by.

eddie is super playful and likes to mess around with the party and the other three alike, always being the one to spur them into a game of sky tag (man idk) or smth which always leaves the group breathless and laughing (yes nancy won)

eddie is a BIG FAN of the raven doombringer aesthetic, its super awesome to him and he’s very proud of it

eddie hoards shiny objects all. the. time. he gives random pieces of jewelry out when he feels like it (its to people he cares abt but he would never say that out loud) and im a firm believer in him wearing ornamental jewelry on his wings like silver skulls and chains and stuff. the others take to it because it actually is really cool.

eddie gives steve gold chains and random charms personally that steve manages with, while robin notices nancy’s interest and gets them matching charms, nancy’s in gold and robin’s in bronze. (i imagine they’re books referencing their first real conversation).  nancy is also a fan of artful thin gold chains and she gets robin bronze bands to bound the base of her wings in a neat way.

steve and eddie don’t get together until much later, always being weirdly distant but respectful of the other. it’s not until robin and nancy hanging out so often that their respective besties (steve and eddie) r like “hang out with us more” which brings them together to hang out more and they actually get along pretty well the more they talk

they then start to branch off on their own and i think they’re pretty slowburn. steve doesn’t really know what he wants and eddie is happy to wait until he finds out what he does. when steve initiates the kiss its slow and nice and experimental and robin and nancy flex on them for figuring out way sooner (in a very teasing manner ofc)

robin: nancy, and u know i love u babe, probably had the worst comphet i’ve ever seen and she still figured that out way faster than you

steve: in my defense nancy is smarter than me

this poem reminded me of bucky barnes (i just got into marvel comics like a few months ago lmao). particularly wrt nat. and of course the dog coding of both of them is very interesting to me also. dog as in a tool dog as in a loyal servant dog as in devoid of identity except for their place as a cog in the machine. what do you think?

ohhhhh i love u for this. hm yes obviously this is more bucky than nat but sidebar it has echos of younger nat in the red room/when she first starts out as black widow. i dont think she is as pathetically beaten down as ws bucky bc she’s never had her autonomy & personhood completely stripped away like him so she is not a tool like he is. like yes she’s had her memories altered and tampered with but essentially she could always think for herself and so she could always pick up and go. but when she was younger not really she just wanted to be a good little spy, ergo the dog, until she escapes the kgb and becomes the fugitive dog never to be chained again. however

the winter soldier is literally a nameless dog on a leash. they kick him when he whines. he sits and waits and speaks when he is spoken to and rolls over when he is told to. and it is all insanely brutal and violent but it is all he knows so he thinks ah well this is how the world works!!!! i am either going to be thoroughly violated or completely ignored!!! and so i must be Good and Obedient. good cog in machine. good soldier. and again its literally all he knows. and when i say knows i mean … idk how to explain it but essentially he’s cognitively impaired as the soldier: brainwashing + drugs + cryostasis have obviously done a number on him! and when he’s only let out for hours at a time before being shut back in—which means he can barely begin to comprehend his surroundings let alone figure out a way to approach them—he behaves very mechanically. very doglike in that he obeys cues (ie sit shake roll etc). so over time he is conditioned to only behave in the ways his superiors like (follow this man. kill this woman. mission report. stand over there and don’t speak. or actually no come here us have fun with the good little soldier) bc it gets him the desired reaction: no reaction! to him no reaction = he’s been good and loyal. so bucky is chained. no control whatsoever. and it's learned behavior. when nat happens he's very ill-equipped to deal with her bc she wants him to speak and she doesn't give a shit about his being good and loyal. which is ironic because she is the only time bucky ever WANTS to be good and loyal to another person!! so here he needs to learn different behavioral patterns to earn the 'no reaction' which in nat's case IS reaction. sorry i feel like im explaining this wrong + ive veered off the dog topic. going back to that - the last part of the poem about the dog learning to love is VERY bucky during and after his time as the winter soldier. because he is essentially learning love from nat he thinks love is like. a smile. and he has no idea how to get it so he whatever he tries that works is the thing he relies on - and he does it again again again in the hopes that it will earn him love. he's like when you feed a stray once bc you felt bad and he keeps coming back even though you try to kick him away. so with the black widow he's like. when a dog brings you a dead bird and expects to be praised for it bc he knows no better. and anyway character thesis for the winter soldier is that he's treated more like an animal than a person. he is an attack god foaming at the mouth. someones sharpened his teeth for him but all the biting and snapping is his own. no one gives a shit about his identity or his wellbeing beyond serving his purpose which is to be a good loyal soldier. ergo dog. during recovery bucky becomes soooo pathetic about wanting to be good and loyal. essentially he curls up at the foot of nat/steves bed and waits for one of them to pet him. but also he pretends he doesn't want to be pet so that neither of them can see the extent to which he is desperate for it.

ALSO obviously there is love as biting. like digging into the flesh is an act of affection. where the black widow and the winter soldier think that love is like. hey i killed someone for u! here's the severed head :) circling back to the dog with the bird in its maw. circling back to trying to learn kindness and coming back for the hope of it even after they've been let down (by one another or the red room/hydra or wtv). they get one (1) mildly affectionate gesture and it drives them crazy forever.

anyway in conclusion bucky and nat are specifically dog coded in different ways. nat is more rabid. she is the kind of dog who bites first and back. she bites for fun! (otherwise she risks being bit and she is much too wary to let that happen.) bucky only bites back and that is out of fear. they are both always scared & poised to attack. bucky only knows to wait for scraps. nat digs in the trash for her own. bucky and the winter soldier are also dog coded in different ways. bucky is more of the pathetic one sitting in the foyer while the ws is the one who barks and bites and gives u rabies until one good kick turns him into a curled up whiny puppy. hope this helps!

Eddie: this is the guess i'm most sold on. there's a scene in one of the early trailers where he's playing his guitar in the upside down; after the whole creepy bird/bat/miscellaneous gross flying things bit in vol 1, it would make a lot of sense for him to be sacrificing himself by distracting the monsters. also: his whole speech to the hellfire club, about how he's going to finally graduate, how "this year is different" ?? textbook tragedy setup. also also: he is incredibly queer-coded and i feel like stranger things would be The Show to somehow bury the gays without burying any cAnOn queer characters. also also also: he's clearly very important to Dustin, and as many people have pointed out in the recent trailer, Dustin going into a rage could easily be because a person he cares about deeply was hurt or even killed; it could very well be Eddie. overall, since he was a new character, the writers could've easily planned to kill him because they knew he would be beloved enough to make it emotional, but without having to kill a long-term main character that the fandom has had time to get attached to.

Steve: i'm not really convinced on this one at all, but i feel like there's always a chance, ya know? with this weird Steve/Nancy setup, it could be a peak moment to have a confession of love, maybe a kiss, with the dumb "i'll see you in a minute" thought, or something similarly emotional tied to a confession before sacrifice. also, as i mentioned before, the whole Dustin fight in the trailer could definitely be him defending or avenging Steve. but i really don't think they'd kill Steve at this point — Steve is a character everybody has loved since season 1, and i think the backlash would be too strong. he's also been very important to other characters' arcs and moments, and he's often key to the comedic relief of the show. it wouldn't really make sense to kill him, but it is definitely possible.

Robin: her line in the recent trailer that's like "it might not work out this time" ??? very worrying. it of course makes me nervous for her, but i think it points more generally to the certainty that someone very loved and very important is going to die. but there's always the burying of the gays. sometimes that's enough. on the other hand, i don't think they would have set up this thing with Vicki if Robin was going to die this season; it feels like a lot of effort and a lot of brightness and hope and adorableness just to throw it away by killing Robin. also, i feel like theyre aware of the backlash they would get for killing the singular (current) canon queer character on the show.

Max: this one feels weird, but plausible, to me. it seems like her arc is pointed to her becoming strong and a big hero this season, but the heroics could end in sacrifice. she's clearly a big target of Vecna's, and she's the kind of character who could definitely give herself up if she felt like she was slowing down the team, or causing problems in some other way. or, maybe not even a sacrifice, but she tries to fight Vecna herself and is seriously hurt — or killed. it seems more likely that they would put her in a near-death situation to raise the stakes, push Lucas' character arc, and have her come back even stronger. either way, the opportunity could be used to parallel Billy's death/sacrifice, especially after vol 1 established how guilty Max feels over it. maybe she tries to sacrifice herself with the thought of avenging Billy or getting what she thinks she deserves. i do think that Max is too adored by the fandom, though, and that she's been too well written this season to be the biggest target.

Will: alright, i really don't think they'll kill this boy. he's been too central to the story, and i doubt they'd kill one of the original main four/five. but i want to put it down in case they do because i know all the reasons WHY and HOW it'll go if it does. one: bury the gays. it's simple, it's basic. based on interviews and... literally everything at this point, we all know that Will is definitely gay, and almost certainly in love with Mike. the question is really over whether Mike feels the same way. which brings me to point two: Byler. we're almost definitely getting a love confession from Will to Mike in vol 2, and i could very easily see it going destiel-style; aka, Will says he loves Mike, and Mike either reciprocates or doesn't, but either way, Will sacrifices himself to stop Vecna. considering his connection to the upside down, it wouldn't be surprising if there was a way for Will to stop Vecna, and it would be a perfect opportunity to tug on viewers' heartstrings. however, i still think Netflix/the writers are aware of the "bury the gays" backlash they'd be in for; plus, the cast seems very excited about what is probably Will being in love with Mike, and maybe i'm just naïve, but it gives me hope for the two of them.

knowing me, it probably won't be any of these characters, but i wanted to make my guesses before the show comes out and i have to wait a fucking week to watch it because i'll be out of town. my bets are (unfortunately) on Eddie, but i guess we'll just have to wait and see.
