saw several pro-palestine protesters at the rose parade today <3
[i wrote this post on jan 1 but never posted it because i never got the spoons to put in the pictures but if someone wants them i'll upload them]
okay. i feel like i should write this down because i know it's probably not going to be in the news
so, the rose parade is this event on the first day of every year in pasadena, california, where there are lots of floats representing different organizations decorated with roses. it's very famous nation-wide apparently even though i only found out about it recently.
anyway, i was watching the rose parade today with my dad because i just got to california a few days ago. we were standing near the end of the route. the cops came on first and did some kind of circling around move on motorcycles that made some people start cheering for them. eh. then when the first float arrived - around 10 people came up to stand in the middle of the road to block it, and lifted up a free palestine banner
here is a pic i got of this (i know you're supposed to censor people's faces but since this was a public parade and i assume the point was visibility i'm not sure if that's necessary? let me know if it is)
[pic]
now you might say, well jules, california is a left-leaning place, isn't it? apparently not! a bunch of the people around me started booing them, because they're assholes! i explained to my dad what was going on
anyway, more cops (i assume they were cops - the people wearing cream colored shirts) came up to them and started trying to get them to leave. i couldn't hear anything, but the float was stopped for about 15 minutes total. there were people on either side waving the flag of palestine and holding up more banners - ceasefire now, free palestine, and so on
i heard a man next to me trying to puzzle out one of the signs, which was being blocked by police. "never… a…?"
"never again for anyone," i told him. he hadn't been one of the people booing, i don't think.
"never again for anyone? okay." he nodded at me and the conversation was over.
i looked back over to the protesters and after a few more minutes, i saw the cops leading some of them away. one guy yelled "lock them up!" i would have told him to fuck himself but my dad was there, unfortunately. the rest of the protesters were led away after that. i didn't see any violence happening but i was too far away to be sure. the parade proceeded.
after that i think police presence was increased, because i noticed halfway through that while originally there were only cops on one side of the four-way intersection there were now also cops stationed on the other end, like, a lot of them? in some kind of lifted structure?
[pic]
also and more importantly, people on either side of the intersection were still waving palestine flags after the protesters blocking the road were forced out. i noticed that there was a group of people holding banners a little further down the intersection, and a bunch of cops were standing in front of the banners, blocking them. didn't block my phone though suckers
[pic]
anyway all of this is just to say. the american police is trying to suppress pro-palestine protests. it happened today and it happened at the macy's thanksgiving parade. but there are more people out there fighting for palestine than you think. apathy is a tool of the enemy and palestine will be free. okay thanks bye

glanced at our local newspaper, literally on the cover page a piece about a thing honoring the israel victims, right under it a bigger piece calling the pro palestine protests in berlin "disgusting displays of terrorist worshippers" and the author "wishing for a quick victory of israel over the terrorists" my parents dont use social media, my dad can barely use a modern TV, newspaper, radio and TV are the only thing they get their info from and this is what they read every day

Hello Dear, I hope you get my message while you're fine.🙏
I'm Ola, a graduate student from the faculty of science at Al-Azhar university Gaza, Palestine. I'm a dedicated and passionate student, striving to become a good researcher and teacher.
Unexpectedly, After October 7th, my life took a drastic turn with the commencement of the cruel war on Gaza, transforming me from a passionate student to a person struggling for survival. 🥺
I have created a campaign to help my family rebuild their lives and get the basic needs of food, drink, etc in these cruel conditions. And also it will help me to complete my education.
All of what I am asking of you is your support, you can support us by making a reblog of the pinned post on my page or by writing a post about my compaign, it would provide invaluable assistance in reaching more potential supporters and I would very grateful if you share the campaign link with your friends and family via mail or other social networking sites.❤️
I sincerely wish if you can empathize with my dire situation and consider supporting us. Please be certain that any help gets us closer to our goal and no matter how small your donation might be, it will make a significant difference in my family's lives.

current count 9:30 11/10/2023
official numbers
Israel
1200 dead
2900 injured
100-200 held by various groups. Hamas claims for a 100, the Jihad claims for 30
Gaza
950 dead
5000 injured
190000 displaced (Amnesty)
1500 dead Hamas operatives (according to the IDF this is the body count that was found withing Israeli borders)
notes and unconfirmed numbers
several hundreds of tons of explosive have been dropped on Gaza- there is no official new number, but from my calculation, over 2000 targets were hit. There is nonstop bombing of Gaza.
Israeli authorities have publicly told Gazians to flee to Egypt for their safety. there are reports that Hamas is ordering citizens to stay around places that are known to be marked to be bombed. Egypt shown displeasure with the idea that they will have to take the fleeing Gazians in, and told Israel off for telling the Gazians to flee to Egypt. The Rafah Border Crossing is being opened and closed periodically due to Egypt and Israeli actions.
Gazians are struggling to get people out of the rubble- therefore numbers are probably bigger.
displaced Israelis- there is no official count.
still no official number of captured Hamas operatives.
Israeli counts (including kidnapped) include foreign citizens and Palestinians that are Israeli residence/citizens. unknown at the moment about foreign casualties inside of Gaza. there are foreign citizens in Gaza.
Israel shut both electricity and water to Gaza, Egypt is being talked with in order to arrange humanitarian aid.
Hamas reported that at least 4 prisoners were killed as a result of the bombing- I don’t have confirmation of more.
Hamas issued Monday night a warning that if Israel will not stop attacking they will start killing captives- no new information in the matter.
Lebanon situation is messy. The Jihad and Hezbollah on one side and the IDF on the other are attacking each other with gunfire and missile fire were exchanged. Unknown number of casualties- looking for more.
yesterday Hamas gave out a telegram warning to Ashkelon citizens to get out of the city before 17:00, at that time they started a barrage of rockets. the warning was not covered in Israeli media (at least that I could see).
there are still attempts to enter Israel by Hamas operatives, most are killed immediately.
for those using my count posts to follow the situation, sorry for not doing an evening recap yesterday, the fog of war was thick and I was struggling to verify stuff

i'm reading an essay by early zionist leader and author ze'ev jabotinsky called "the iron wall" and not going to lie, it's rather interesting the way early zionists blatantly described founding a jewish state as "colonialism".
Tumblr media
he also seems to know, or rather push the idea, that palestinians would never voluntarily accept a jewish state
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
the kind of solutions he has (the "iron wall") is unnervingly similar to israels current solution of using the united states and other western countries as a kind of protection
Tumblr media Tumblr media
^ this last one is has rather obvious implications of a forced agreement
and the language he uses to describe arabs + perceptions of arabs is also rather interesting, to say the least
Tumblr media Tumblr media
^ this phrasing sound eerily similar, no?
he does seem to admit that arabs are not fools, though, albeit still thinking theyre inferior.

So if you've been following me on Instagram you would have seen me say recently that I've decided to take a step back from posting/sharing/creating Grishaverse content due to what Leigh Bardugo said (or rather what she didn't say) about the situation in Palestine. For context, during the press tour for The Familiar, an audience member asked Leigh about the justification for non-BIPOC authors profiting off BIPOC stories yet not advocating for real-life BIPOC people (since Leigh has been silent on Palestine since October, despite having expressed solidarity with Palestine in the past).
The video (which you can watch here) has been circulating the internet for a while, and I've already spoken about this on Instagram. I just forgot I had Tumblr for a second there, hence why I'm only addressing this now despite having already spoken about this. However, as someone who has an entire online presence dedicated to Leigh's work, it would be wrong and rather hypocritical of me to not address this.
Disclaimer: This is not a conversation about whether or not white/white-passing authors should be allowed to write BIPOC stories, as many people both in the comments of the original video and online generally have taken it. The issue isn't that Leigh is writing BIPOC stories - it's that she's writing them and choosing not to advocate for real BIPOC people.
The audience member asked a confronting but necessary question, and isn't harassing Leigh as many people online have interpreted it. Holding your favourite people accountable isn't "harassment", especially when that person is a successful author profiting off stories that reflect issues in the real world. Art is inherently political whether or not you want to acknowledge it. This also isn't about specifically asking Leigh this question because she's Jewish - it's because she profits off these stories and yet when these exact same issues are prevalent in the real world, suddenly they're "too political" for her to speak up about despite having expressed solidarity in the past. It has nothing to do with her being Jewish.
However, what's going on in Palestine isn't a political issue. It's basic human rights. It's about humanity, and acting as if posting about this issue is "performative" is ridiculous. I don't know what she's doing behind the scenes, so I'm not going to act as if she isn't doing anything outside of social media because I simply don't know, but when you have an online presence as big as Leigh's you should be using that platform to raise awareness and express solidarity. I understand that it's very easy to come across as "performing activism", especially on social media, but Palestinians have asked us time and time again to use our platforms to help raise awareness and amplify their voices. When you're someone like Leigh who profits off stories of the trials and tribulations of BIPOC people, the very least you can do is talk about the atrocities being committed against BIPOC people in real life.
No one is expecting you to be an expert on what's going on. If you've previously posted misinformation, why not learn from it and actually educate yourself and do better? You're literally an author who profits off stories of colonialism, oppression, dissemination, apartheid, segregation and genocide and suddenly that happening in real life is "too political"? And the amount of privilege you have to not want to get involved in talking about a real-life genocide because you "stopped being political on Instagram" is laughable. Just feeling sad about it isn't going to do anything. It doesn't erase the fact that an entire people are being ethnically cleansed in a genocide you refuse to talk about.
The Grishaverse means so much to me, it's gotten me through some extremely tough periods of my life, but I cannot in good conscience continue to support an author who chooses silence over her own humanity. All she had to say in response to that question was "free Palestine", but she instead said something akin to "I know about what's going on and I know silence and feeling sad about it probably isn't enough, but I'm just not going to do anything about it". Again, I know she's advocated for Palestine in the past, but why not continue doing so? No one is stopping her - she's actively chosen to stop.
As for my accounts? I'm still deciding what to do with them. I won't be deleting them, I'm not going anywhere, but I won't be posting edits or sharing analyses or general posts about the Grishaverse until Leigh decides to do better. This blog will probably turn into a multifandom blog, but who knows at this point. All I know is that I won't be promoting Leigh's work.

welcome everybody
I am Muhammad Imad Abdel Latif Sharab
First, after an aggressive war on Gaza City and its revival, we were displaced from our 3-storey house in which I and my family of 3 members live.
My father's family consists of 8 members
My grandfather, may God have mercy on him, was martyred by occupation aircraft on 12/14/2023.
The one who was martyred while he was leaving the house to check on our house next to him, which could not be reached due to a brutal enemy who does not differentiate between anyone in death, went out to check on our house, which we were not in because of my displacement to Rafah, me, my father, and our families due to the intensity of the fighting in Khan Yunis, and after that A few days ago, our store in which my father and brothers work was bombed by occupation aircraft. He was working to gather his strength from it and meet the needs of our house, which no longer exists due to the bombing. We ask you to help and contribute, even if just a little, by donating to us so that we can compensate for a little of what we lost.
Many thanks to you 😢
🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺
If you do not understand the words well, because I am not very good at English, but I ask you to help me with money so that I can compensate for even a little of what I lost, and I am very grateful to you, my dears😢🥺😢🥺😢🥺🥺😢
