"Okay okay wait." Y/n told Robin, "you wanna, not only stay in here overnight, but you also want to put this...child-"
"What's with the pause!?"
"I've seen many things, and a child does not manipulate two grown adults that easy!" Y/n argued. "So you wanna put this child in danger-"
"This child has a name!-"
Y/n sighed, "And what is it?"
"Wouldn't you like to know."
"You little-"
"okay! Okay!" Dustin stopped the two.
You were officially in crazy town, cookoo land, family chasing you, lost from Loki, Peter, and the others, your friends wanting to fight Russians, and you mean while are having the biggest mental breakdown of your life.
You just wanna scream.
But you get roped into their shenanigans either way.
So, you with them wait for nightfall, you staying with Erica to help and get her into the vent in the first place.
Afterward, you look for anything that could be a weapon, a knife hopefully, but it is an ice cream shop, and find nothing useful.
You're soon to join the trio on the roof.
"God I wish that magic dumbass the Corinthian was here," Y/n argued.
"Who?" Dustin asked.
"The Corinthian, he casually threatened me and Steve for ice cream," Y/n argued.
"What?" Steve asked.
"The white-haired dude? Wore glasses?"
"Y/n you were knocked out the whole time in the back almost, I don't know who you're talking about I tried to wake you up, you had a bad bloody nose, then Robin came in and you were up like nothing."
"The conversation about Nancy?" Y/n asked, he shrugged at her confused.
"Not with me, Last actual conversation we had was how Venom showed up at your house-"
"Venoms here!?" Dustin asked happily.
"Guys!" Robin argued, "Kinda, busy here!"
"Sorry." The three apologized.
You all were quiet, waiting from any word back from Erica.
Soon she was walking out unharmed, causing Steve to sigh in relief,
"Asshole child!"
"Punisher Wannabee!"
Fuck she got you with that one.
You all were quick to make it off the roof, you sliding down by the pipe on the side of the building and the others taking the stairs like normies
When you all made it in it was just a whole bunch of Chinese food boxes.
"Well shit, time to deal with a bigger problem," Y/n spoke.
"Wait! we gotta open one." Dustin protested, Steve, took out a pocket knife.
"Fine," Y/n spoke, holding her hand out for the knife, "I'll open it, remember Hydra fighter?"
"Let the Punisher Wannabe open it-"
"How bout you open it, Sinclair?"
"I'm a child hell no."
Y/n rolled her eyes, Steve looked at her, "Come on,"
He gave it to her, and she opened it without a care in the world, "Fuck come on..."
Turns out? Russians are in Hawkins, yay.
You opened the container, to find smaller ones inside.
"Woah, step back," Steve told the group, Robin and Erica were quick to take a step back.
"You too dude," Steve told Dustin.
"What!? no!"
"Come on-"
"no-"
"Yep, that's Hydra alright..." Y/n spoke already and had pulled a container out of the box, the signature symbol plastered on the underside of the bottle, "Bastards...Gotta say though, they're losing their shit on the packaging, come on man, step it up."
"Y/n!"
"What!? I'm being honest!" Y/n argued, "At least Stark has better packaging!"
"Tony Stark!?" Dustin asked.
"Yeah, Tony Stark-"
The room suddenly rattled.
"We're fucked." Y/n spoke up.
"What? Dustin, open the door." Steve ordered as Dustin turned to press the button.
"It's not working."
"What do you mean it's not-"
Meanwhile, Y/n was taking a seat in a free corner where no boxes sat the group started to argue.
"Just press the button!" Steve argued pressing a button causing a large door to close.
"We're in an elevator!" Y/n called, "And we're going down!"
It was indeed you all were going down, you sat on the floor already knowing something like this would happen, come on its hydra.
So while everyone was screaming their heads off, you were just waiting for it to stop.
It was a hard and sudden stop and even made you slip from your seat a little.
"Okay. Hydra you got my respect back." Y/n sighed standing up, "kinda atleast."
She went to help Robin and Dustin up, seeing Steve was barried under boxes, helping them off him and him up he brushed himself off.
"Thanks-"
You were already walking away to help the next person to there feet
And they're arguing again while your clipping the canister to your belt.
"I dont care about Tina! Or Uncle Jacks Party!-"
"Move-"
"What-"
"Move!"
Y/n pushed Steve out the way and climbed up on the table, she had found and opening in the ceiling of the elevator.
"Anyone comin?" She called out getting to the top.
"I am." Dustin spoke following her as she held an arm out for him, he grabbing it as she lifted him up with ease, "woah-"
She stood up, looking up.
"Anything up there?" Steve asked.
"Nope." Dustin spoke.
"Lots and lots of climbing..." y/n sighed, "and Im sure I couldnt even climb that...fuck..."
She took a seat with a sigh, watching Dustin start to pace for an idea.
"My walkie!" He beemed, taking it from his bag and bringing it up.
For the next, god knows how long he tried working at it, calling for help as Y/n sat against the wall ontop the elevator.
"Dustin. Please." Y/n spoke rubbing her head, "its not gonna work."
"What happened to you?" He argued.
"What?" Y/n asked confused at his anger.
"You! You use to be so! Lets save the world-"
"Dustin! This isnt the world to me!" Y/n defended, "this is day to day life!"
He looked at her with a given up look: "look...come here."
He sat besides her, "Im going crazy." Y/n told him.
"Your fighting russians and demodogs-"
"No. No." Y/n responded.
"Im going truly crazy." Y/n responded, "something. Something in my head...Im seeing things that arent there. Im mistakening dreams with reality-"
"You're getting a super power!?" Dustin asked.
Y/n sighing, "yeah. Maybe thats it."
"Thats a good thing!" Dustin cheered, "look at the stuff you do now! Imagine after super powers!"
"Super Powers? Some one blasting us out of here?" Steve spoke climbing up.
"Im better off stuck down here then up there at this point." Y/n responded, "Its almost day and Im still completely unknown of whats happening to my friends..."
"What happens if the Russians-"
"Dustin. I. Its not Russians." Y/n told Steve walking to the corner of the elevator, "trust me-"
"What are you doing?" Dustin asked Steve.
"What do you think Im doing Im taking a leak." Steve spoke undoing his pants turning his head to see the two looking.
"Well!? Look away! Look away!"
"Jesus! Okay! Okay!" Dustin told turning around.
"Nothing I havent seen before." Y/n shrugged.
"Ew!" Dustin gagged as Y/n looked towards Dustin.
"I thought you two werent a thing anymore!" He argued.
"We're not." Y/n told, "I cant handle love."
"I am right here." Steve argued.
"Good. Wont have to repeat myself later when we have a moment." Y/n defended as Steve put himself back together.
"Hey!" Robin called head popping up, "we got company!"
Y/n looked at the two boys, "Come on! Get up here!"
Y/n quickly helped the two girls up, just in time too as the door slid open.
You were all quiet, hearing people moving in the bottom.
"Hydra?" Dusti whispered as Y/n brought a finger to her lips, listening to the conversation
By the sound of it they were just workers. But knowing Hydra they were most likely armed with pistols and it'd be hard keeping four bodies from bullets
So the best option was to wait for the right momment.
It was Steve's quick thinking that got you out the elevator to begin with, using the hydra container to stop the door from closing as everyone quickly slid through the crack.
You pulling Steve by his feet before he could get crushed to death.
Now you had a shit ton of walking to do.
Like a shit load.
You stayed infront of the group, armed at the ready with Steve's small pocket knife.
"Would you look at you."
"You're back."
"It is your head."
Y/n looked towards the side, the man dressed prestine and clean.
"Your outfit sucks by the way."
"Yeah. Not really into the pretty boy style either." Y/n told the Corinthian, "Why are you here?"
"Why are you here?" He asked, "after all you figured me out a hell of a lot quicker than I could even imagine."
"Im here because these dumbasses are gonna get killed without me."
"Yeah but you have bigger things to do."
"Shame." Y/n rolled her eyes, walking down the long hall, "whats happening? To me?"
"Hell if I know." He responded, "my guess would be your walking between two walls."
"Walking?" Y/n asked.
"You're asleep, but not." He explained.
"Day dreaming?" Y/n asked, "Multiverse jumping?"
"No." He spoke, "walking is all, You're good at it. You know. Despite the"
"-Bloody nose." Steve spoke up the Corinthian gone.
"What?" Y/n asked.
"You have a bloody nose." Steve told her, "again."
Y/n felt at her nose, "sorry."
"Thats the what? Third one?" He asked, "you gonna be okay?"
Y/n nodded wipping her nose on the back of her hand, "yeah fine."
He watched her walk ahead again.
"Hey!" She stopped them, they coming to a crossroads, "come on keep quiet. Follow me. There's people up ahead."
You were quick to guide them behind some type of cover from Hydra soilders.
You quickly hurried them along, and even had to pull them behind cover when they stood there out in the open like idiots amazed.
"To the coms room." Erica spoke poitning it out.
"Comns room???" Y/n asked.
"Yeah. While you were busy day dreaming we got a radio signal a hole."
"I should feed you to the Hulk you know." Y/n argued.
"What makes you say its a comns room?" Steve argued.
"Lots of lights and control shit."
"That could be hudnreds of diffrent things."Dustin argued.
"Shes not far off." Y/n told Dustin, "just stay ontop me."
They nodded, following her close behind.
It was easy to get them to the comns room, You ushering them all inside as they quickly did as told.
Just to be face with a Hydra soilder.
"Ah fuck." Y/n mummbled as the guy looked straight at her, he knew who she was immediately .
That was before Steve yelled and rushed at him surprising the group.
"You did it!" Dustin shouted at Steve, "you won a fight!"
"Seriously? Never won a fight?" Y/n asked.
"We're not all super ripped like you." Steve panted brushing his fingers through his hair.
You looted the guy for his pistol and gun, while Dustin picked up his key card.
But as always there was more arguing, they argue alot.
Did you argue this much?
Yeah most likely.
"Hey!" Robin called, "your gonna wanna see this."
Y/n quickly climbed the stairs joining Robin, "Fucking Hydra...little assholes..."
"Holy shit..." Dustin spoke.
You were all looking at a machine, ripping into a portal, a familiar portal, the Upside Down
"I...I swear. If I fucking get my hands on Zeemo."
"Zeemo?" Dustin asked.
"He made Bucky Barnes the Winter soilder. And I have a feeling Zeemo did this bull shit too."
Y/n rushed back down the stairs to see the man Steve once beat the shit out of gone.
Rushing to the door she opened it seeing Everyone looking her way.
"Avenger!" They shouted, Y/n lifting the pistol up before letting out a few rounds and slamming the door shut.
"Run!" She shouted.
"What?!"
"I said run!" Y/n shouted opening the door allowing them to go through, "Do it freely OR I'LL DO IT AT GUN POINT!"
"Avenger!" Soilder shouted behind them, "Get her!"
Y/n turned around firing at the soilders but the magazine was empty.
"What!? Already!? Oh come on!" Y/n shouted rushing down after the group.
She jumped the railing following the group close in tail, ramming into one of the soilders with a better gun.
"Thats mine now!" Y/n shouted hitting it across the second soilders face causung him to go down.
She turned around shooting at the soilders rushing at her while cautiously running backwards, downing a few before she took off once again.
"Y/n!" Steve shouted, "hurry!"
"Im going!" Y/n shouted jumping over the small set of steps before turning around, shooting just a few more bullets, the gun empty again.
"OH THESE GUNS SUCK COME ON HYDRA!" Y/n shouted before rushing towards soilders using as a Melee weapon, before dropping it and pulling out Steve's pocket knife.
"Y/n!"
"Go! Now!" Y/n ordered.
Steve and Robin watching her threw the window on the door, superhero pose and all, nothing but a pocket knife in her hand as soilders rushed at her.
Within a few seconds she downed atleast five more of them, using themselves against each other, but with how many flooded in at once, she was beat, kicked, shot at and went to the ground within the next mintue: shouting for the group to run as she fought back even in captivaty.
But they manage to stop you by knocking you out
Because Hydra has no class.
When you woke up, you found yourself in a cage, surrounded by a binding circle.
"Ugh..." she groaned.
There was a noise: a growl? Maybe not, maybe a gargle?
She looked to the side, "Oh. Hey. They got you too,"
The thing Hpmh in its in own way.
"Yeah...oh shit my side..." y/n complained, "Let me guess...they wanted you to join for your stunning looks. Look. You havent eaten me. So. Im Y/n..."
It grumbled, "Yeah yeah. Sterotype. My bad. Not every green thing thats huge wants to beat everything up."
Y/n looked at the creature, "you got a name?"
It hummed and bubbled.
"Ted?" Y/n asked, "How long you've been stuck here."
It answered in a grumble.
"shit that sucks." Y/n responded, "why you in the pound?"
Y/n listened as the thing blurbed, ranted in its own way.
"Because you're...a swamp...monster..." Y/n responded, "Mhm you there forced Test runner?"
He nodded.
"Yeah. I can understand that." Y/n complained rubbing her head as she looked at the binding circle, "this thing keeping you in?"
He nodded.
"Seeing they put me in here." Y/n spoke, "they wanted you to eat me and wanted any sorcery I had to cease along with any strength."
He grummbled, "what? No. Not with out my sling ring you?"
A few hums, blurbs and grunts in response.
"Really You have powers? Oh an me? Someones a fan boy." Y/n chuckled, "but yeah. Avenger. Not much of a power kinda gal..."
You used the bars to help you to your feet leaning it against it as you used it as support to walk looking for anything.
The binding circle too far for you to reach over and simply swipe at and ruin.
And with your new cellmate you were shit out of luck on most things.
But before you could really try anything, two soilders came in with there Lutenit
"I demand to talk to Zeemo!" Y/n shouted at the commander.
"Zeemo has no weight and is a scum to us."
"Fuck." Y/n mummbled looking back at Ted, "Im shit out of ideas."
"I will ask you once." He spoke, careful to keep outside the bidding circle.
"Which Avenger sent you."
"None." Y/n argued, "Your mother did. And shit did she suck my fat fucking dick like no tommrow!"
A gun shot rang off as Y/n was shot in the leg, she growling in pain but kept standing up.
"Fury must have sent you-"
"Fuck you!" Y/n shouted.
"Zeemo prehaps?!"
Another shot to the leg, she crumbling against the ground hands still on the bar.
"Do you hear that?" The Lutenit asked, taking a step closer, "You're friends?"
"Fuck!" There was a cry, they in a near by room, she could hear it threw the vent.
Y/n was slient, as she kept her head down the Lutient taking another step closer, he would be rewarded highly, capturing both spies and a long term enemy. Y/n's grip tightened on the bar as he took another long stride.
"Who is the cock sucker now?"
Y/n reached out grabbing him by the belt slamming into the bars, "You!"
Y/n grabbed his gun quickly shooting him and falling back to aim at the other two just as quick, downing the three.
"Fuck..." she sighed pulling at the soilders foot bringing him closer so y/n could grab his keys as she quickly got up and made it to the locked cage door.
"You comin?" She asked opening it as Ted got up, "yeah. Come on. We're blood buddies now."
He followed her carefully, she grabbing stuff off the soilders to tie her leg off.
Ted was gentleman enough to even tie them off as a thank you.
You like ted, anyone hurts ted they fuck with you
Peaking your head out you dont see anyone, but as soon as you do an alarm goes off.
So you and a Giant Swamp Monster named Ted are on the hunt for your friends and quick too, rushin to find your friends you tried the first door, it already open and you could hear laughing.
"Haha! Henderson!"
Y/n opened the door quickly.
"And Y/n! Haha!" Steve laughed as she walked in.
"Y/n!" Dustin cheered, cutting the bindings on the two, Ted following her inside causing them all to scream.
"Hey! Hey!" She shouted, "Ted! This is Ted! He's cool! He's with me! They wanted him to eat me but we're chill! Right Ted?!"
He nodded as they just looked at the two.
"Well?! Come on!" Y/n shouted rushing them all along.
You manage to lead them all path free of Russain soilders till you turn a corner and there's both screaming.
Turns out Ted had a rescue party coming consisting of one man.
Luckily Ted can stop you before you go full fighter on the poor dude.
"Again?" He asked Ted, "and ropping people into it now?"
Ted grumbled.
"Okay. Obviously your friends." Y/n smiled at the two, "but if you'd like to stay that way we should oh. Run!"
Turns out Dustin knabbed on of there vechiles and your having to basically pick Steve and Robin up into it, you drive, because honestly you don't trust anyone else. Along with the new comer in the front.
"Im Jack!" He introduced holding out a hand for a hand shake.
"Are you seriously introducing yourself right now?!" Y/n argued driving as fast as she could.
"Right sorry!"
Y/n looked to the side: "Im Y/n!"
You manage to get everyone to the Elevator and rush everyone inside.
And in the elevator its even worse.
Steve and Robin joking around, playing.
"Its like Im-"
"Surfing!" They both cheered.
Ted looked at Y/n, "I swear there both usually way better than this."
She watched Steve fall and tumble over, Y/n walking over to him.
"Hey! Steve!" Y/n shouted.
"Y/n?"he asked, "what are you doin here?"
"They seem drunk." Erica argued.
"Why would they be drunk."
"Steve-"
"Boop." He poked her on the nose, "Hey- when did you get here Y/n?"
"Steve let me-"
"No- Ow!"
"Sorry- sorry.." y/n apologized holding his eyes opened.
"His pupils are dilated." She spoke, "not drunk but drugged."
"Jack, where'd you park your car?" Y/n asked.
"Car?"
"Yeah."
"I walked here? Heh..."
Y/n looked back at Steve, "Where's your car Steve?"
"Ooo can we stop at the food court!" Robin asked, "i'd kill for a hot dog on a stick!"
"Yeah!" Steve smiled.
"You can have as much food as you want!" Dustin told him the two drugged teens cheering, "Where are your keys? For the car!"
"Keys!? Hah the russians took those!"
You sighed, as the Elevator stopped, you all filing out in a rush.
"You guys stay safe." Y/n told Ted and Jack.
"Thank you-"
"Hey!" A police officer shouted.
"Shit..." Dustin spoke looking around, "in here! Come on!"
Looks like Jack and Ted weren't done with you yet as you pulled them in to hide in the back halls of the mall with you.
You had to figure out something to do with Ted and Jack, mostly Ted.
"Uh...this way! Behind the screen!" Y/n shouted rushing Ted in.
"Alright. I want you to stay in here." Jack spoke.
Ted grumbled, "yeah I know you can help! But when the times right alright buddy?"
Ted shrugged in relucant exceptence.
Leaving Ted hidden for now you quickly joined Dustin and Erica to divise a plan.
You told Jack to stay there and keep an Eye on Robin and Steve while you and Dustin went up to try and radio the group.
Turns out Dustin ran the battery pretty dry, but he managed to get back to the group, barely able to hear or register anything.
"Hey!" Jack spoke rushing in the room with Erica.
"There gone."
"What?!" Y/n argued getting up and looking for the two in the crowd, "shit..."
You all went on the hunt for them, but you ended up falling, Jack luckily catching you.
"Ah. Your bleeding-"
"No shit I got shot atleast twice."
He helped you along to a bathroom, sitting you on the counter you groaned, adrenaline starting to wear thin.
He pulled out a little pocket med kit, he must get in alot of shit problems if he carries one around.
He rolled undid the binding you hand on them and rolled up your pants leh and took a look at them.
"It didn't go threw..." he spoke.
"You have tweazers in there?" Y/n asked.
"Uh. Yes." Jack spoke holding them out for her she taking off her belt bitting down on it.
She lifted her leg to rest on the counter.
Taking a deep breathe she dug the tweazers in eyebrows knitting in pain as her face became hot, pulling the first bullet out. Jack even had to look away from the gruesome act, his own eyebrows knitting as he griminced in disgust. She tossed the bullet in the sink to quickly get the second and within the next mintue she had the second out. Pulling her belt from her mouth she sighed in relief.
"Could you?"
"Yeah- Yes. Of course." He spoke.
You watched him disinfect and clean the wound and surronding area.
It was quiet between you two, until he spoke up and thanked you for saving his friend.
"He gets in trouble quiet a lot." He chuckled, "this way Is...quiet new."
Y/n chuckled, "Im always in trouble it seems..."
"Your a midnight son." He spoke, Y/n looking up from the work being done on her leg, "You work with Marc Spector."
Y/n nodded, "how do you know that."
He shrugged, "Lets just say we've fought before."
"Your the wearwolf." Y/n cut in he looking up, "I remember the markings."
He nodded, looking down at his work, "We had quiet the moment back then."
Jack laughed, "calling falling to our deaths is hardly considered a moment."
Y/n chuckled, "I'll take what I can get, one of the better memories...especially as of recent."
He stiched her leg up carefully, "We have to stop running into each other this way-"
Y/n winced, "Im sorry." He apologized quickly.
"Are you alright?" He asked a hand resting on her shoulder.
Y/n nodded, "I'll be fine. Thanks..."
Y/n watched the skin close up on the first stitch, he moving onto the second hole.
As he stitched you up, you both contuined to talk, as if you were old buddies catching up
He had a contagious smile, and a sweet heart
To be honest you feel bad for almost killing him that one time.
You didnt expect the conversation to get so deep either: he telling you what he did as the "other" side of him wasnt really him.
"I mean. I like this side. But the other side was kinda fluffy," y/n defended, causing him to laugh.
"And you? Do you have an other side?" He chuckled.
Y/n thought for a mintue, "I don't know. Not like you atleast. Not that I know of."
"No?" He asked, "arent we all animal in some way? We all have something itching."
Y/n chuckled, "If Im an animal Im one uncapable of happiness."
"Why say that? You're lovely. Besides the almost killing me."
"I almost let myself be happy...with Steve. With my dad."
"But?"
"But I always have to do the "bigger" thing, save the world, save this save that." Y/n spoke, "I dont mind it. I don't. Really. Its fun even sometimes, I just...end up missing people after there not on the feild anymore but rather in it."
Jack cleaned her stiches one last time, and wrapped her leg in gauze, "sounds like to me like you need to save yourself."
He finished off her bandages tying them off and tucking the loose ends in, "or. You need to be saved. Just once."
"Reinvention?" Y/n asked.
"No." He spoke, "Heal yourself before you Heal others. Doesnt have to be while in battle, but off the feild."
"Mentally?"
He nodded.
He made a good point: maybe you need mental healing.
Dustin busted through the door and the others followed.
"Okay look. It doesn't take that long to bandage a wound. Y/n stop flirting." Dustin argued.
"What-"
"We need to go!" Erica argued.
"We go out the front, circle round and grab Ted." Dustin explained.
"Why not just go through the Theater?"
"Because its closed." Dustin explained.
"Come on."
So both you and Jack got up and walked towards the group, you all poking your head out looking to see the last group from the theater leaving.
And quickly all join to blend in with the group.
You blended pretty easy, you and Jack especilaly keeping your head down.
"Turn around." Robin argued.
"What?"
"They're here." She told, "the russians."
The group looked at rhe man checking IDs, he turning towards them.
"Shit gotta go!" Y/n told, "go!"
The group ran away, sliding down between the escalators quickly.
You could hear the running behind you, you all rushing to hide.
And out of all places in the food court,
You had pushed the kids under the counter in hopes they'd have more cover.
You put a finger to your lips as Dustin and Erica covered there mouths.
Looking at The other three they were
It was eerily quiet.
The car alarm of the "Win a Prize" car went off and a quick growl out as the car was thrown the two kids grabbing onto you in fear
You slowly peaked over the counter, the group following you.
"Haha!" Y/n laughed, "Ted!"
He smiled and looked up to the second floor.
"Haha!" Dustin cheered, "Yes! The gangs all together."
It was indeed a good sight, the heros y/n had lost track of? All together: beat up? Oh for sure, but together and intact.
You barely could hold your ground as Peter and Kate almost tackled you down in a hug.
"We thought you were a goner!" Kate told.
"No kidding! We looked everywhere for you then ran into Mr.Stark-"
"Wait wait wait." Y/n stopped them, "Tony?"
"They're all here!" Kate spoke, "and this thing! Its called the mind flayer! And it's not just in Hawkins its in New York! And It has everyone by the head! And so we learned about the Upside down! And we didnt know how to reach you! So we went along sithe everything and Billy Hargrove? Right? He's like a main leader! We think he got to Frank and thats how it spread!-"
"Woah woah Woah!" Y/n stopped, "Slow down. Slow down. Look I was just stuck in a Hydra base!"
"Hydra base!?"
"Okay! What is going on!" Nancy intruppted, "Hydra?!"
"Okay Hydra is what turned bucky barnes into the Winter Soilder-" y/n told the huddled around group.
"They strengthened Wanda Maximoff and...uh..." Y/n spoke, "They're a huge threat."
"What's the game plan here exactly? Because if Im honest. Strange." Eddie started up, "has no sling ring nor neck stone thing Kate's out of arrows, Parkers only part spider, Wade's got no bullets left, no swords, loki's and Chavez are all magiced out, Venom wont even come out."
"Wait" y/n argued, "You lost the eye of Agimoto-"
"More of it was ripped from my neck." Strange argued.
"By who?!' Y/n argued.
"By Billy-"
"Hargrove's flayed?" Y/n asked.
"Y/n." Strange spoke, she looking at strange, face full of concern, "you're brother, Billy Russo, he's here."

Trivia Night
Tumblr media
Photos are not mine. They are courtesy of Pinterest/Google.
Pairing: Billy Russo x F! Reader (wife)
Warnings: Some swear words, little violent, nothing major though, sexual reference, fluffy bunnies and unicorns
Word Count: 4.5K-ish
Summary: Trivia night at one of your favorite bars with your favorite people. Billy is late and you have to fill his spot with someone no one else is really fond of, especially Frank and Ginger
A/N: This one has been done for a few days but life got in the way of me putting it out. Finally had some time. Part of the Gingerverse. I’ll put the collection HERE. I haven’t written for them in awhile and I’ve missed it so this was fun. I hope you like it!
As always, thank you for reading!  I appreciate it so much and comments, reblogs are welcome and encouraged. Don’t be shy to tell me your favorite part. 💕💕 💕
With music playing in the background, you sat at the bar with your friends staring at the beer in front of you. Poured perfectly, the high white foam piled high in the glass but not too high and melding into the citrusy white ale underneath.
It was a blend of orange, lemon and lime peel with a hint of spice from Grains of Paradise which was a rare pepper from West-Africa and considered an aphrodisiac.
Your head was full of little factoids and knowledge which is why Ginger thought it would be fun to do a trivia night at one of your favorite bars and it was also another way for Frank and Ginger to continue their “friendly” competition with each other.
The bar held a trivia contest every Thursday night and you were finally able to get everyone together for a fun night out. Of course, Frank and Maria were there, along with Ginger and another friend from work, Jules. You were just waiting for Billy to show up and complete your two teams of three but he was, once again, held up at work.
“Where’s your husband, kid? If he doesn’t get here soon, you’re gonna need another teammate so I can beat Ginger fair and square.” Said Frank.
“Keep talkin’ shit, Frank. We’ll see who answers more questions.” Ginger replied with a furrowed brow.
“I don’t know where he is. He promised he would be here but they’re starting soon.” You said with a worried look on your face.
You were going to have to find an alternate teammate.
The foam from the head of your beer touched the tip of your nose as you took a sip. The bright wheat ale was refreshing as it cooled and coated your throat. The bubbles tickled the inside of your nose as you set the beer back down onto the bar and the coaster underneath your glass was slightly damp from the condensation.
Searching the bar one more time for Billy, your eyes spotted a familiar face. The last time you had seen him was at your birthday party a few years ago before Billy had told you how he really felt about you. He was also the reason Billy almost left that night because you were dancing with him.
It was Lucas.
“Hey stranger!” He said, as he went in for a hug. “How are you?!”
Nervously, you replied, “I’m good, Lucas, really good. How have you been? It’s been a little while. You still working for Billy?”
He nodded. “Yep, actually he was still there when I left a little while ago.”
Glancing at your watch, you replied, “Yeah he’s supposed to be here for trivia time so our team is one player short at the moment.”
He took a sip from his beer bottle and a sly smile stretched across his face as he said, “I can fill in for him until he gets here.”
Both Frank and Ginger were staring at you, they glanced at each other and then turned their gaze back to you, well, back to Lucas. They both had a look of mistrust on their faces, narrowed eyes and furrowed brows. You loved how protective they were of you but it’s a public place with an old co-worker, what was going to happen?
As you pulled the barstool up, you said with an innocent smile, “Hey guys! Frank you know Lucas.” You said pointing in between the two of them. And turning to Ginger, you said, “Yeah, remember he was at my birthday party before I left Anvil.”
Still with her eyes narrowed, she replied, “Uh huh, yeah I think I remember. Silver Springs guy, right?”
Lucas nodded.
Ginger pulled him over to the barstools and said, “Alright stud, get comfortable, you’re gonna fill in until Billy gets here. You better be smart too, I’m not losin’ to Frank.”
Frank smirked at her. “We’ll see, Ginger.”
You turned to Lucas and said, “They’re a TAD competitive with each other. It’s comical to watch.”
“Oh I can’t wait.” He replied.
**********
Billy was always in awe of how smart you are. He even went as far as saying you should try out for Jeopardy. A lot of nights after the two of you had dinner, you would turn it on while you were cleaning up in the kitchen.
“The answer is…This element has the highest atomic number that occurs naturally.” Said the host.
You said, “What is Uranium?”
“This Russian author wrote War and Peace.”
Again, you replied with the correct question, “Who is Tolstoy?”
“Located in Jordan, this ancient city is known for its rock-cut architecture.”
“What is Petra?” You said.
“What is Citizen Kane?”
“Who was Winston Churchill?”
“What is a Life of Service?”
“Who is Victor Hugo?”
With his dress shirt rolled up to his elbows, Billy stood at the sink washing the pots and pans with a smirk on his face and a towel draped over his shoulder. He’d hand them off for you to dry as you rattled off question after question.
“You’re amazing, my love.” He had told you. “You really should try out, I’m serious.”
“I’m not that smart, Billy. There are so many more people out there smarter than me.” You said.
After drying his hands off on the towel, he pulled you in by your waist, your body was flush with his, and his hands were still warm from the hot water from the faucet. Billy tilted your chin up with his long slender fingers so you were looking into his onyx colored eyes, smiling that perfect smile at you. That smile could get you to do pretty much anything. It was your kryptonite…in a good way.
“Why do you doubt yourself so much, sweet girl?” Asked Billy in a silvery tone.
Glancing down at his arms wrapped tightly around you, you replied with a shrug, “I dunno. I guess I’ve always had that feeling that I’m not good enough. Plus, I’m highly competitive so if I don’t win, I feel like a loser.” You said with a slight smile.
“You and me both, baby.” Said Billy. “Our kids are gonna be in trouble.” He said with a wink.
You laughed as he gently pressed his lips to yours. They tasted like the bittersweet piece of chocolate he had after dinner.
“Will you do something for me, beautiful? Just think about it? I wouldn’t blow smoke up your ass and tell you you’re good enough when you’re not. You know that.” Said Billy.
You snaked your arms around his neck and gently raked your nails against his scalp. His raven colored hair glided through your fingers as you kissed him again. Slipping his tongue between your lips, his kisses became hungrier as you angled your head so he could kiss up and down your neck.
“Not fair, handsome. That’s called coercion when you kiss me like that.” You said as warmth spread across your cheeks and chest.
“Does that mean you’ll think about it?” He asked, brushing his knuckles against your cheek.
You rolled your eyes playfully at him as he stood in front of you smiling like a Cheshire cat. Billy knew exactly what he was doing.
“Ok, you win Billy. I’ll think about it.” You said, biting back a smile.
He replied, “That’s all I ask, my love.”
**********
You were sitting in between Lucas and Ginger. Frank, Maria and Jules looked very ready to answer some questions and before you knew it, the contest had started. Billy had promised he would be here but he was late and the game had started without him. Unsure of the rules, you didn’t even know if he could jump in when he got there.
Billy worked harder than anyone you’ve ever met. You couldn’t fault him for wanting to be the best, fighting to stay on top, and be the best security detail in the city. Sometimes he broke his promises which most of the time you let go but this one hit a little differently.
It was upsetting. You just wanted to have some fun with him and he was missing it but you were determined to have a good time anyway.
You were on fire tonight though. There wasn’t a question you didn’t answer correctly even when it wasn’t your turn.
“How many moons does Neptune have?” Your host asked.
You answered confidently, “Fourteen.”
“What is the fear of flowers called?” They asked.
“Anthophobia.” You replied.
“How many staircases are located in Hogwarts?” Their voice sounded frustrated because they couldn’t stump you.
You answered with a sly smile, “142.”
With his arm touching yours, Lucas leaned in and whispered, “How do you know all of this stuff, y/n?”
“Oh, just stuff I picked up here and there.” You replied.
You thought Lucas was harmless, but Ginger and Frank felt otherwise. In between their score keeping with each other, you swear they were silently communicating about how close Lucas was to you and keeping an extra close eye on him to make sure he didn’t try anything.
“He’s a little too close to you, don’t you think?” Said Ginger, in your ear.
Looking down at her leg and yours, they were practically touching so you replied, “Well the barstools are really close together. What am I supposed to do? Sit in your lap?”
“I’d say he still has a thing for you.” Ginger whispered, almost glaring at Lucas.
You whispered back, “Ok, well I NEVER had a thing for him. Also I’m very much in love with my husband.”
“I know that…just…well just watch his hands. I don’t trust him and neither does Frank.” She said.
You glanced over at Frank. He looked as if he could spit nails. “Yes, I can see that.” You replied. “I’ll be on high alert. Ready to do some Kung-Fu Panda if I need to.”
Ginger started to laugh and sing a verse from Kung Fu Fighting while Frank rolled his eyes and Maria chuckled.
While this was going on, you became hyper aware of how much Lucas was drinking and gradually inching closer to you. He looked like he was feeling pretty good and it was starting to make you a little uncomfortable but you tried to ignore him.
After a little while, it was break time. Time to stretch your legs, run to the bathroom, have a snack…whatever you felt like doing for a few minutes before the second round started. Frank and Ginger were arguing who had answered more questions correctly between the two of them.
There was the team score and then their personal scores that they kept track of. It was hard not to laugh when they would go back and forth and get under each other’s skin. Both of them, however, kept a close eye on you but mostly they were watching Lucas.
Maria caught the two of them eyeing you like a hawk.
“What are you two glaring at over here? Or maybe I should ask, WHO are you two glaring at over here?” She asked.
Without taking his eyes away from you, Frank replied, “We’re watching to see if Lucas makes any moves on y/n. I know he still has a thing for her, I feel it.”
Maria folded her arms across her body and playfully rolled her eyes.
“Baby, I’m sure y/n can take care of herself. Being with Billy all this time, I’m sure she’s learned a thing or two about defending herself if Lucas is stupid enough to try anything.” She said.
Ginger jumped in, “Yeah but it’s not just us, right? She looks a little uncomfortable talking to him.”
In an unsure tone, Maria replied, “I mean, I guess maybe a little bit.”
You finally saw the familiar face you had been waiting for all night to arrive. Scanning the bar, Billy’s dark brown eyes locked with yours and a wide smile stretched across his lips as he rushed toward you. Without realizing what you were doing, you walked away from Lucas and started walking toward Billy.
Excusing himself, he worked his way through the sea of people until you were close enough for him to touch. You crashed against his chest and melted into his embrace. Billy brushed your hair over your shoulder, snaked his arms around you, and held you while he apologized over and over again.
“I’m so sorry I’m late, sweet girl. I’m sorry.” Whispered Billy against the top of your head.
For a brief moment, you had forgotten how angry you were with him that he was late, yet again, and smiled against his chest while listening to the rapid beating of his heart.
“You’re VERY late, Billy. I had to find someone to fill in for you.” You said.
Billy glanced around the bar before he asked, “Who did you get on short notice, my love?”
Just as you were about to answer, Lucas said, “Me…she got me to fill in for you. Finally done at the office, huh Mr. Russo?”
Billy narrowed his eyes and gave Lucas a devilish smile before he answered, “Yeah…I am. Well I’m here now so you can take off.”
A cunning smile stretched across Lucas’s face as he replied, “Actually, I just asked the person in charge and there aren’t any substitutions after the game has started so it looks like you’ll just have to sit and watch, Mr. Russo. Your wife is…” He paused to stare at you. “She’s amazing. You know how smart she is?”
Billy replied with gnashed teeth, “I do, Lucas. Yes, MY wife is incredibly smart.”
“Oh, well I guess you do know then. They’re about to start, y/n. I’ll see you back at our seats.” He said.
Billy glared at Lucas as he walked back to his seat then turned back to talk to you. His body was stiff and the muscles in his shoulders tensed while his knuckles showed white as he clenched his fist.
“I don’t like the way he’s looking at you.” He hissed.
You rolled your eyes a little.
“Baby, you never like the way any man looks at me.” You said, looking up at him through your lashes.
“Yeah, well I know Frankie and Ginger feel the same way.” Said Billy.
“They texted you, huh?” You asked.
Billy nodded, his lips pressed into a straight line. You could tell he was furious.
“Well maybe you should have done a better job of trying to get here on time, Billy.” You said, turning on your heels and walking back to your seat.
He called out after you, “Sweet girl, I said I was sorry!”
“You’ve been sorry a lot lately, Billy. Maybe this will teach you a lesson.” You said.
You knew how Billy could be, how jealous he gets, and how possessive he is of you but he had been disappointing you more often lately because of work. He had been canceling dates, coming home late, and missing dinner. Maybe this was a tough lesson he needed to learn.
Ginger stopped you before you could get back to your seat.
“Awesome, Billy’s here! We can ditch the dummy, he doesn’t know anything anyway.” She said.
You started to shake your head back and forth and replied, “We can’t, Ginger…guy in charge said we can’t swap out. So we’re stuck with him for two more rounds.”
Frank walked up behind you.
“I’m ahead by one, Ginger. They’re gettin’ ready to start round two.” He said.
“They won’t let Billy play because he showed up late.” She said.
“What?! So you’re stuck with him for two more rounds? That’ll teach Bill to be late, yeah?” Said Frank.
Lucas was sitting in his seat, drinking his beer with a smug look on his face. You knew he was trying to make Billy jealous and it didn’t take much to get Billy’s blood to boil. The scorching glare he directed at Lucas could probably be felt by the entire bar as he sipped his bourbon.
But they were starting the second round and you directed your concentration to answering the questions and not toward Billy. In between questions, Lucas would lean in and whisper things to you like “You’re doing great.” And “That one was really hard, how did you even know that?” It was really making your stomach turn but you didn’t want to be rude. You made it through round two and only had to make it through one more round.
“I got five questions right that round, Frank. You forgot to mark that last one down.” Said Ginger.
“No I didn’t, Ginger. It’s that one right there.” Frank said, pointing down at his scrap paper.
“Well, my paper says I have one more.” She said.
“Then you’re cheating.” He said.
Ginger’s jaw dropped open. “I am NOT cheating and I am deeply insulted that you would even think that. I can beat you fair and square.”
Maria interjected, “Baby, I think you did forget one.”
“Hey, whose side are you on, anyway?” Frank said, looking at her fondly with a smirk on his face.
Meanwhile, a few feet down from where Frank and Ginger were “discussing” their totals, you were trying to reassure Billy that Lucas wasn’t going to try anything and there was only one more round left before it was over.
“There’s only one more round left and then we can go home, ok?” You said.
Lightly brushing his beard with your thumb, you smiled warmly at him and gave him a quick kiss on the lips before returning to your seat.
Billy nodded and tried to smile at you but you could tell he was still angry and jealous.
Round three questions were a little more difficult…
“How many noses does a slug have?” They asked.
Deep in thought but distracted at the same time, you blurted out the first number that came to mind.
“Four?” You replied in an unsure tone.
“Four is correct!” They said, excitedly.
“What are baby rabbits called?”
“Kits.”
“Who painted ‘Girl with the Pearl Earring?’”
“Vermeer”
“What 1949 science fiction book by author George Orwell describes a dystopian world in the future?”
“Twenty-Twenty-Fo—oh wait, sorry…I mean, 1984.” You said with a wide grin.
Billy chuckled a little at that one but his smile disappeared when he saw Lucas inch closer to whisper something in your ear.
“And she’s funny too.” He said, placing a hand on your knee and squeezing.
Your body immediately tensed and your face tightened as well. You could actually feel the color leaving your face and Billy could tell something was wrong.
You looked over at him, silently telling him that you didn’t like what was happening. Lucas slowly moved his hand up your thigh while looking over at Billy. Your body temperature started to rise and your heart started to race.
Earlier, you thought maybe Lucas was just being extra friendly because it had been awhile since you had seen him last but now you realized that he must still be upset because you left the night of your birthday party with Billy and not him.
“Take your hand off of me, Lucas.” You said through gnashed teeth.
His touch made your skin crawl.
“Don’t make a scene, pretty girl. We have to finish the game.” He whispered.
Billy got up from his barstool and started to walk over toward you but not before you planted your left leg and kicked Lucas’s barstool out from under him with your right. He was leaning forward when his stool disappeared from under him so his face smashed against the bar and he landed on the floor clutching his nose, yelling out in pain.
Looking down, you noticed blood dripping from in between his fingers while he weaved a string of profanities as he tried to get the bleeding to stop.
When he looked up at you, his face was flushed with rage as you smiled kindly, clutched your imaginary pearls and in a patronizing voice, asked, “Oh my goodness, Lucas! Are you alright? Did you lose your balance?” Then in a low voice only he could hear, you whispered, “Don’t you fuckin’ touch me ever again. We’re never going to happen so get over it. I’m married to your boss, dipshit. Although, after this I’m guessing he won’t be your boss for much longer.” You said with a devilish smile.
Ginger was trying to cover her mouth so no one would see her laughing but she was doing a terrible job. “Holy shit, where did you learn to do that?!” She asked in a surprised tone.
“My husband taught me.” You said loud enough for Billy to hear.
Billy winked at you, sending delightful shivers up and down your spine. He handed Lucas a bar napkin and growled in his face, “You’re FIRED and don’t you EVER come near my wife again. She knows how to do a lot more than just kick barstools, asshole.”
You heard Maria’s voice behind you, “See Frank, I told you she could take care of herself.”
“Time to go, Lucas. Let’s go.” Said Frank, pulling him to his feet and walking him toward the door and holding him by his shirt.
“I knew he would try somethin’ sooner or later! I hate to say I told ya so buuuuut…” Said Ginger with a wide smile.
Billy took your hand in his and gently brushed your cheek with the other. A look of concern washed over his face as he continued to look you over to make sure you were alright.
“You ok, sweet girl?” He asked.
“I’m fine, baby. I’m fine. You see what I did? Huh?” You asked with raised eyebrows and wide eyes.
He let out a little laugh and pulled you flush to him. Billy inhaled sharply and exhaled forcefully; feeling the tension leave his body, you wrapped your arms tightly around his back and you could feel the smirk play across his lips against the top of your head.
“I did and I gotta say it made me a little hard.” He purred as a tremor of pleasure went straight to your core. “All jokes aside, I’m gonna try to make more time for us and for our friends. I know I’ve been really busy lately. I’m so sorry, baby.”
With your body molded against his, your eyes closed in relief as his long slender fingers danced up and down your back. Nothing felt better than being in Billy’s embrace.
“That would really mean a lot to me, my love. I know how hard you work but you deserve to relax and have fun too.” You said, smiling against his chest.
As his gazed raked over you, Billy’s eyes were like pools of dark chocolate, rich and sweet. They were warm, inviting and begging for your forgiveness. He really was sorry. You felt it in the way he held you, the way he looked at you, and as his lips gently pressed against yours, you felt it in the way he kissed you.
“I’ll learn one of these days, sweet girl.” Said Billy as he kissed your forehead.
You replied with a subtle smile, “We have all the time in the world, handsome.”
Ginger interrupted the kiss between you and Billy.
“Well since you took out our teammate, how are we gonna finish the game now?” She asked. “Our TEAM obviously won because you have a ridiculous amount of information stored in that big brain of yours BUT, I need to finish round three against Frank.”
Ginger looked around at the group, wondering if any of you had an idea of how to finish up trivia night.
“Well, I know my beautiful wife has stacks of trivia cards all over the place at home so we could all go there for a couple more drinks, more trivia, and I can properly introduce myself to Jules…” Said Billy, extending his hand for her to shake. “Hi…I’m Billy. I’m y/n’s dumbass husband and she ended up in a bar fight because I was late.”
Jules laughed and started to blush, extended her hand to shake Billy’s, and said, “You’re right, y/n. He really does have a smile that will melt your insides. I don’t know how you can stay mad at him with a smile like that.”
“He definitely has an unfair advantage, that’s for sure.” You replied. “And I did not get into a bar fight, Billy.”
“Hey, he left the bar with a broken nose because of you, did he not?” Said Billy with a wink.
You bit back a smile as you narrowed your eyes at him and shook your head. It really was hard to stay mad at him…you loved him so much.
“Alright then…to the house of Russo! Let’s finish this, Castle!” Exclaimed Ginger.
“Lead the way, Ginger.” Said Frank, ushering her to go ahead of him.
Billy leaned in close and whispered, “Can we do a lightning round and get everyone to go home quicker? I’m still turned on from watching you bash Lucas’s face against the bar.”
A blur of a smile played across your lips as you replied, “OK number one…gravity did that to Lucas’s face, not me, and two…I’ll see what I can do about the lightning round. I love you, Billy.”
He quickly cupped your cheeks and his lips collided with yours. Sweeping your lower lip, Billy’s tongue parted your lips to twist and knot with yours. The taste of vanilla from the bourbon lingered on his tongue as warmth spread across your chest and his hands ran up and down the curves and hollows of your body.
All was forgiven.
Walking together arm in arm, you and Billy headed for home with your friends, talking about your day, and talking about what he missed from trivia night. You weren’t looking at him but you could feel his eyes on you and smell the remnants of his spicy cologne on his jacket. It was all so familiar and comfortable as his body was a warm cradle for yours while you laughed with each other all the way home.
Billy tried his best to learn from his mistakes and he hated to disappoint you because he knows what that feels like. To wait for someone, hoping they’ll show up and they never do. He never wanted to do that to you.
That fear of abandonment was still strong even after all this time, after all of the “I love you’s,” after the forever promises to each other, it was still there. Billy may never get over it but you would always be there for him in whatever way he needed you to be.
The perfection he strived for in your relationship was unattainable, nobody is perfect but it didn’t stop him from trying, learning what not to do, and it was ok to have these teachable moments like tonight. He took it all in and he would be better next time, you had no doubt about that.

Things will get better with time
Hey! This is my first ever fic so hopefully it makes some sense haha. Written for a lovely soul I met here on Tumblr a few days ago, asking someone to write them a comfort fic so here i am, trying to save the day. Hope you will like it! Tell me what you think!
Ps. this is not proofread, it is 11pm here and my brain is dying:)
---
Pairing: Billy Russo x fem!reader (not canon, this Billy is actually sweet and caring!)
warnings: a bit of swearing, feelings of being unworthy (can't think of anything else tbh)
Summary: You are on a girl's trip in Greece with your best friend but things aren't really going the way you anticipated. After a fight with her, you leave the hotel and find yourself sitting on a lonely bench when a weird stranger asks if you're okay.
A lot of angst to comfort.
Word count: 2937

Greece. Greece.
You muttered to yourself as your eyes scanned over the department board once more, simply to confirm that this was really happening. Your first ever trip abroad. You were beyond excited as you continued to find your friend in the maze of people and luggage. All the thoughts of warm nights, hours spent by the beach and days of simply existing and relaxing were filling your mind. As you finally spotted Stephanie your excitement grew even more. A girl’s trip, something you have anticipated for quite some time now. She was, as usual, completely wrapped up in her boyfriend’s arms. Not that you didn’t want her to be happy, not that you were jealous, it was just… sometimes you wanted to spend time with just her, without Luke always there. But now you have finally managed to escape his prying eyes, his ever-present arms around your best friend and his snarky comments of always stealing his girl away from him. And to be honest, you were pretty happy about finally getting rid of him.
“I’ll miss you baby,” Stephanie said for the hundredth time in the last ten minutes. The boarding would start any minute now and yet here you were, still in the departure hall, trying to get Steph to bid goodbye and finally enjoy herself on this trip. Luke hugged her once more while saying “Call me every day, okay baby girl?” and your friend profoundly nodded, as if to confirm something far greater than just to call her boyfriend every once in a while.
The flight, to your surprise, was quite smooth. That went without counting Stephanie’s constant cries of how she wishes Luke would have come with you. Don’t be so harsh, you told yourself, it is the first time they are really away from each other. You tried to seek some understanding within you and for the first hour you actually did find it. But when the conversation would not steer in a different direction even after two hours, you simply excused yourself from the one-sided debate, popped in your earphones and tried to fall asleep. You thought of all the beaches again, of the sea, and of course, of all the handsome men you will probably meet in Greece.
It was not as if Steph was a bad friend. She was wonderful at times. Attentive, caring, supportive. But that was all before she met Luke. After they started dating, you have been cast aside, thrown away like a used doll that didn’t fit the child’s expectations anymore. And you understood, for who you were to stand between two people in love? So you salvaged all the little time you could get with your friend, enduring all the conversations about her love life, feeling happy for her. You just hoped things would get better with time. But they never really did.
When you finally touched down in Greece, you were welcomed with gentle warm breeze on your cheeks and the sun stroking your hair gently in the late afternoon. The ride to your hotel was silent, a fact you were much thankful for after the exhausting flight. You guessed Steph was tired too but as you looked behind your shoulder to the backseat, you found her with her phone glued to her hands, her eyes fixed on the screen. “Everything good Steph?” you asked, concerned something was the matter as she was frowning quite hard. She looked up momentarily and forged a small smile on her lips as a form of wordless apology. She said, surprising you “Yeah, it’s just Luke. He was asking about the flight; you know how he is with planes” and chuckling a bit to herself as her eyes returned to the screen. You simply nodded, knowing she is not paying attention to you anyways. Luke, always Luke… even here in Greece, with all the beautiful scenery around, it’s always Luke. Yet you could not really bring yourself to feel anger, or at least not enough of it. It will get better, you thought to yourself as the car came to a halt in front of your hotel.
The first two days were weird, to say the least. Your room was spacious, beautifully furnished and with a dazzling view of the town you were staying in and of the seemingly endless glimmering sea. The food was great, the people were kind and the weather even kinder to you. You have heard quite a lot of people say that Greece is insufferable at this time of the year for its hot temperatures, but you guessed you were lucky as there was always gentle breeze cooling you down. Everything was great. Except that it was not. Stephanie, despite promising you she would reserve her daily calls with Luke for the less busy afternoons, was on her phone most of the time.
“Oh, I’m sorry, Luke’s calling me, I gotta go”.
“Can this wait? Luke and I are going to facetime now”.
“Luke’s texting me, hold that thought!”
On and on, these sentences and their versions filled your days like a plague. You were getting tired of always being put second, never really being the first option Steph would choose. Because even though she was there with you, she still decided to prioritize her boyfriend. Now don’t get it wrong, you were happy for her, you truly were. But you also thought that maybe this was not entirely fair towards you. After all this was supposed to be a getaway from your work, you busy life, from all the other people. It was supposed to be just the two of you, like the old times. And you still thought that maybe things will get better.
The late afternoon has finally begun to bleed into an endless night when you suggested going for a walk through the little town. “I suppose we could do that; it could be fun!” Stephanie exclaimed, finally agreed to doing something other than just lying in her bed facetiming Luke. You were beyond happy for finally snatching some of her attention for yourself. The two of you agreed on dressing up a bit so that you could take some lovely photos by the white houses typical for this area. You put on a beautiful flowy dress that hugged your curves perfectly and reached just above your bare knees, with flowing sleeves of blue see-through fabric. The neckline was a little lower than what you would usually go for, yet it still didn’t reveal much, only a hint, only a tease. Your hair was twisted into a simple up-do and you also put on some lighter make up, just to compliment the look. As you stood in front of the mirror, you felt so beautiful. Yet something was still missing. Oh, the earrings! You thought as you remembered you bought a pair of intricate gold earrings on the farmer’s market the other day. An old lady sold them to you, telling you they were literally made for you. And boy, was she right. You looked gorgeous.
“Steph, I’m ready!” you called out from the bathroom.
But your friend didn’t return the excitement which now began to slowly replace itself with disappointment. “You’re gonna hate me…” She didn’t even need to go on, you already knew where this was going. “Luke? Again? Seriously? You guys just spent the last four hours talking on the phone!” and this long-held disappointment and neglect has finally merged into a well-deserved anger. “But he says it’s important! Come on, you can’t be mad at me. I miss him so much…” Stephanie countered your angry statement with a response filled with sadness. “I wouldn’t be mad if it was just a one-time thing but Steph, you’ve been on your phone the whole time we’ve been here. I feel like I don’t even exist to you!” now you were beginning to fight, your emotions getting the better of you. “That’s now true!” your friend yelled back at you. “You know goddamn well that it is.” You said, voice barely above whisper, as if you were afraid that if you spoke loudly it would break. As if you stood your ground, then you would break. And Stephanie just stood there, looking at you, not really knowing what to say. Maybe she knew you were right, maybe she did really feel bad. But it didn’t matter anymore. You were hurt, you were lonely and you just wanted to hide somewhere and cry your heart out. So, picking up your purse and walking towards the door, you turned to her one last time and quietly left. There was nothing else to say.
You could not exactly recall when the tears started to stream down your face, ruining your pretty make up. And you also could not recall when you’ve abolished trying to walk in these uncomfortable shoes, or how exactly you got to the lonely bench you were now sitting on. The moon was high up in the sky now, the stars singing their lullaby to anyone willing to listen. The sea was quiet and dark, a companion for worse times. And the omnipresent wind sometimes ever-so-slightly ruffled through the leaves of the trees enveloping you like a safe haven. It was peaceful, to say the least. And it indeed was a nice contrast to the war of emotions taking place in your heart. A part of you felt bad for leaving Steph like that, a part of you felt like maybe you should have yelled at her more. And as you were crying silently in the embrace of the night, you didn’t even notice the presence of someone else behind you.
“Are you alright?
You jumped at the sound of a deep velvet voice that cut through the silence like a knife. Oh shit, oh shit. Suddenly the state of your situation started to dawn on you. You were completely alone, on the outskirts of the city, in a dress and now with a strange man. I’m fucked. You decided to play it safe.
“Yeah.” You tried to sound strong but your voice was laced with sadness and salty tears.
“Are you sure? I thought I heard you cryin’ so I decided to check on you.” The stranger spoke up, his voice firm, yet somehow gentle and warm. Maybe he was not a bad guy after all. And you so desperately needed a shoulder to cry on, you didn’t really care whose the shoulder would be.
When you didn’t reply, too caught up in thinking about the pros and cons, the man quietly moved next to the bench. But he didn’t sit down just yet. He was approaching you as if you were a scared animal, trying to get you to trust him. His scent filled the air around you; a sweet cologne, a bit of fire and something you could not quite name. It was pleasant, you had to admit.
“Mind if I sit?” he asked, jerking you out of your overthinking. You silently nodded to let him know he could sit down next to you, hoping he wasn’t some kind of a creep. He sat down next to you, not close enough to let your shoulders touch, but not far enough that you could not sense the warmth radiating off his body.
“So…” he said, suddenly unsure of himself. But you could not bare the weight of all the emotions anymore and words started to spill out without you having any control over them.
“I hate it, I hate her. I hate that I feel like this. I feel so fucking lonely, on my own goddamn holiday! I thought we would have a good time, that I would relax and enjoy myself and instead I am here, sitting on a bench god knows where with a stranger listening to me because my best friend is too selfish to do that instead.” At the end you were almost screaming into the night, your body trembling, your eyes stained with tears, your heart breaking at the realisation of what was really happening. It was pathetic really. Telling a stranger things like that, how does that even happen? But you felt like you could trust him. There was just something about him that made you feel safe. And he was listening intently, not saying anything. He was just there. And that was all you needed in that moment. When he noticed how shaken up you were, he placed his hand affirmingly on shoulder to encourage you to continue. When you calmed down a bit, you resumed your rant.
“My friend and I, we agreed to go here on vacation. As a way to relax, you know. I thought it would be great. It is actually my first ever trip abroad. But she wouldn’t get off the phone. She is always talking to her boyfriend. Always. Texting, calling, facetiming, you name it. It’s as if I’m not even there! And it hurts so much, it feels so lonely. And I tried talking to her about it but we just got into a fight and now I am here, crying instead of enjoying this trip.”
His fingers were drawing gentle circles on your bare shoulder and you found it soothing.
“I’m so sorry. That’s pretty shitty.”
“Yeah, it is shitty.” It almost made you laugh. Because it was shitty.
“Look, your friend is a really bad friend. Abandoning you like this, that’s not somethin’ good friends do. You deserve so much better than this. I usually tell people that they should talk things out but if you’ve tried that and it turned into an argument, maybe it would be better if you gave this friendship some time and space. So that both of you can assess your priorities. And to also realize what is important to you.” He said, his voice calm and even, comforting your worried heart. “It doesn’t take the pain away now, I know. But it will help you a lot in the future.”
“I hate that you’re right.” you agreed and much to your surprise, smiled. “It’s just a lot of built-up anger I suppose. And disappointment too. It has been going on like this for quite some time but I never really noticed it until now.”
He took a breath as if to think a bit on what to say next, as if you weren’t going to like what he got to say about it. “I understand. Sometimes we just want to see the good in people no matter how much they’ve hurt us. And we are too blind to see that they are causin’ too much pain and not enough happiness. Sometimes it’s just better to let people go. You can be happy on your own, happier even. You know, go and see a movie alone, go to a museum or to the beach, just enjoy your own company.”
“But doesn’t that get lonely?” you asked, still looking out at the sea. It calmed you down, the repetitiveness of the waves, the sound of water and also the warmth of his hand still on your shoulder.
“Sometimes. But I have found out it is better to be lonely than to be with the wrong people.”
It were those words that made you finally turn around and look at him. And you were met with a sight worth more than words could ever describe. A man so handsome you thought he was conjured by your own imagination. But then, your imagination could not possibly produce something so perfect. His eyes, dark as the sea draped in darkness, looking warmly at you. His lips curled into the faintest reassuring smile. You could tell his hair was once neatly styled with gel, now ruffled and messy, yet still looking soft. And to top it all off, his perfectly trimmed beard.
He smiled at you, a wide and beautiful smile. “Hey there.”
You weren’t looking at him, no, you were quite intently staring. “I’m Billy.” He extended his hand towards you, waiting.
“Y/N” you said at last, smiling too. You shook his hand and suddenly felt the urge to apologise. “I’m so sorry, I probably shouldn’t have done tha-“ “Don’t apologize sweetheart. I couldn’t bear to see you cry.”
A quiet “Thank you” found its way onto your lips. And his smile grew even wider. “Please, don’t thank me. Letting you talk it out was the least I could do.”
And even though his voice was reassuring, and his eyes told you he spoke earnestly, you still couldn’t shake the feeling you should feel bad. Maybe because you were still shaken up from Stephanie not listening to you or maybe because you found yourself on a bench in Greece with this handsome man, spilling your heart out. And suddenly, tears rolled down your cheeks again and your heart felt too heavy to carry once more.
“Oh no, baby, come here.” Billy said as he wiped some of your tears with his thumbs. “Shhh, it’s all okay sweetheart, it’s okay” he whispered into your hair as he pulled you closer. His strong arms hid you away from the world, pressed against his chest, and you wished for nothing more than to simply stay in this little shelter that he suddenly became. “I’m here Y/N, I’m here. All is well, it’s okay” he repeated, rocking you back and forth, as you cried into his shirt. And as you stayed there, on that bench, talking the night away in Billy’s arms, you let yourself believe that, for the first time in a while, things will get better with time.

You finish rolling up your stockings, smoothing the band of silk and lace neatly over your thigh before arranging your dress, then you dab on the lightest touch of rouge and perfume before it's time to work.
As you descend the staircase to the bar you feel the eyes are on you as usual, men and a few women too. Among them are those belonging to a man dressed hat to boots in black, sitting in the corner of the bar with Billy. He'd been in here for the past few nights, stealing looks when he thought you didn't notice, but you noticed everything. It was a survival skill in this environment. You could tell so much about a person by the clothes they wore, how they carried themselves, who they spoke to and what they drank. It paid to be perceptive and aware of the little things, if you missed the subtle way a man was about to reach for his weapon, things could get very dangerous. Everything about this particular fella screamed danger, and even seated you could tell he was big. He had stubble on his jaw you could strike a match on and yet he hadn't yet worked up the cojones to try his luck with you. Or maybe women just weren't his thing.
You take your seat at the bar and Josie hands you a drink as you cross one leg over the other, getting comfortable.
As the evening draws on you shoo away the sleezy advances of the normal punters, but you can't help note that the newcomer has barely taken his eyes from you all night. You were used to it, you had that effect on people. All of the girls in Hell's Belles were sweet, but you were the sweetest, a gilded lily if there ever was one. You were in demand, your reputation surpassed you, and you were therefore able to charge whatever you wanted for a night in your chamber, and could afford to be fussy with who you let in.
However, tonight Mr Tall, Dark and Menacing finally decided to approach the bar and so you prepared yourself for the usual shit you had to endure from outlaws and so-called sharpshooters who thought they could walk in and take whatever they wanted.
He was in for a shock.
"Buy you a drink, miss?" His voice is deep and thick, like gravel mixed with molasses, and at this close distance your first impression that he was handsome was not wrong, although in a rugged and rough kind of way, with a nose that you'd wager had been broken more than once.
"You can buy me a drink, but don't think it'll get you anywhere, mister. I've seen you sitting with Billy Russo, and I don't doubt he's told you I don't just lift my skirts and lay down for any old gunslinger."
Frank nods politely. "That he did miss, but uh, if you pardon me, nobody said we gotta be layin' down…"
He's bold, and smooth, you'll give him that. He might have even raised a tiny smile from you with that cheeky remark, but still you roll your eyes.
"Whatever the lady's having." He says to the barmaid.
"Charge him for a double, Josie." You add.
"Thank you ma'am." Frank says as he passes his last wad of notes to Josie without any reluctance, tiling his head to the side. "Any reason, or you just like messin' with strangers?"
"As I said, you're with Billy, and he's on my shit list so you get to suffer too."
"What'd he do, if you don' mind me askin'?"
'He talks too damn much."
At that Frank chuckles, raising his tumbler. "Ain't that the truth. Boy definitely has a mouth on 'im."
"Mm." You look him up and down unashamedly. "I get the feeling you're more of the strong, silent type."
"Maybe. Could be whatever you want me to be Miss." Frank rumbles and you decide that you like his attitude. You're not giving over so easily though. You sigh and take a sip of your drink. "How about gone? You can't afford me."
"S'funny, I was thinkin' of knocking over a bank this week, that change anythin'?" Frank proposes, despite your thorny exterior he's not lost one iota of confidence.
You laugh. "Oh you're very funny, mister…?"
"Castle. Frank Castle." He offers his hand and you place your empty glass in it.
He gestures to Josie for a refill. "M'serious though, s'why I'm in town. Got some business to take care of." He's got an edge to his look, a hint of something heavy hanging over him.
You nod towards the twin pistols that hang from either side of his chest.
"That kinda business? Those are some big guns you've got there mister Castle."
"The size don't matter sweetheart, it's knowin' how to use em, but I'll warrant you know all about that."
"Mm, careful with the 'sweethearts' Castle, I'm not yours yet, and sadly I'm rarely impressed." You reply with a shortness.
"Apologies Miss, but maybe you look out from your balcony at dawn tomorrow if you want your proof."
You shake your head and smile. "Hmm, it's gotta be a damn special man that'll make me get out of bed before dawn."
Frank's mouth quirks up at the side and he tips his hat as he finishes his drink, pushing off the bar. "Maybe. S'been a pleasure talkin' with you Miss. G'night."
His drawl settles deep within you bringing with it a hint of heat and you curse yourself, hoping he'll prove your doubts wrong that he's a drifter just like any other, that he'll actually be worth the gamble. Or at least worth losing a lie in. You could do with the money after all.
You prop your chin up on your hand on the bar. "C'mon Jose, spill."
Josie gives you a knowing look as she leans across to share what she knows. Josie hears everything. "Well, he's an outlaw, but you knew that already."
You click your tongue. "Yeah, and? Surely you've heard some talk."
"Mm. Word is he's an outlaw that's been killin' other outlaws, maybe just for the money, or revenge. Dunno what he's gettin' revenge for though."
You glance over your shoulder to where Russo is laughing heartedly but Castle isn't giving away any emotion.
"Careful honey, that there's a rough road you don't wanna go down. He might be charmin' but he sounds like bad news. I heard some folks call him The Punisher."
When you eventually retire for the night you find you can't rid your mind of him, and you're up and pulling on your silk robe before the first rays of the sun break above the horizon.
The air on the balcony is blessedly cool and the street mostly empty but then you see a few figures gathering on the dirt road, one of them an unmistakeable tall, dark silhouette. They talk for a while and then Frank Castle and his dueling opponent slowly walk to opposing ends of the street.
The air grows tense as they stand there, ready, waiting for the signal to draw. When it comes everything moves like lightning. It's over so quickly, Frank's coat swirls around his legs along with the dust cloud he's kicked up as he spun around. Your gaze flits to the other end of the street and you see his opponent is still standing, but his pistols have been shot straight out of his hands and lie on the ground.
Billy is down there too, laughing and demanding that the other bystander pay up a wager. You watch Frank holster his own pistols, a shiver of a thrill climbing up your spine as he turns to look up towards your window, subtly tipping his hat because he knew you'd be there watching. Of course he knew, and now you're even more intrigued to see if he'll approach you again later tonight, and put his money where his mouth is.
Sure enough that night he walks up to the bar beside you and orders a full bottle of whiskey.
"Fine evenin', Miss." He says, tipping his hat. You accept the glass that he slides over to you and then stand up, your heels clicking as you cross the wooden floor to the stairs.
"You can bring the bottle." You call over your shoulder.
He follows after a beat, shooting a look towards Billy who just shakes his head in disbelief.
"Yes ma'am."
You're sitting on the edge of the bed when he knocks and enters, removing his hat and coat and hanging them on the hook on the back of the door.
"Like what you saw this mornin', Miss?"
"Maybe. Are you always that flashy?"
The ghost of a smile appears on his grizzled face. "Nah, just a bit of fun. 'sides, it got me here didn't it?"
You walk over to him, standing close, sliding your hands over his black waistcoat and shirt and then down to his harness, releasing his guns from their soft leather holsters and pulling them out. They're a nice weight in your hands and you notice the handles are expertly inlaid with tiny white skulls bright against the ebony.
"Wanted to see if you can handle a woman as well as you handle these." You invite, placing them down gently on your bureau. He grabs you then and you gasp as he holds you fast, one strong arm wrapped around your waist and the other sliding into your hair as he allows his dark brown gaze to roam over you. You heat up instantly at his gall.
"Ain't gonna rush this." He says, before dipping his head to kiss you. Despite all appearances his lips are pillowy soft and slow against your own. He's right, he's in no rush but you open up for him a little as his tongue lightly trails the seam of your mouth. He kisses at your bottom lip, tugs on it just enough to get you to release a pained sound, and then he's kitten licking, teasing the taste of him as your hands snake up around his thick neck and shoulders to pull him closer. You want more.
He lifts you up easily, walking you to the bed and setting you down to sit on the edge again and you watch him, feeling yourself grow wet between your thighs as he steps back and carefully rolls up his sleeves.
"What happened to not needing to lay down?" You ask as he gently persuades you down onto your back. He hikes up your dress skirts, sliding his big hands with surety up your legs, bunching the fabric around your hips. He has a darkness and hunger in his eyes and it scares and arouses you in equal measure.
"I told ya Miss. Gonna take my time. May I?" He gestures to your skimpy underclothes and you nod, lifting your hips as he gently pulls your soaked frilly knickers down your legs and throws them aside. He gets down on his knees on the rug and your heart is thumping hard against your bustier. It's not so often that a man will go down on you for your pleasure alone, and this man, this dark brooding beast, looks like he's waited all his days to do just that.
His hands smooth up the outsides of your thighs over your silky stockings and grip your waist as he carefully pulls you closer to the edge of the bed. You sigh deeply as he spreads your legs apart.
"I gotta say Miss… you're a true beauty. The sweetest balm for the eyes." He licks his lips and it's all you can do to moan long and loud as he puts his sweet-talking mouth to work on you. He knows exactly what he's doing, pushing all of your proverbial buttons and driving out the most desperate sounds that you've ever heard yourself make. He licks and laps, sucks on your clit and fucks you so damn good with just his mouth and tongue, but your pussy aches with need and so you paw for his hand, urging him to slip his fingers in. There's a rumble deep in his throat as he covers two thick digits in your slick and slowly pushes them in your entrance, stretching you just a little.
"Mmm, oh fuck, just like that…"
"Yeah?" The low tone of his voice makes your cunt squeeze around his fingers and he watches you react. "Y'like that Miss?" He asks eagerly as he starts to curl his fingers, stroking your inner walls in a way that has you panting for breath as you feel your orgasm being easily teased from you.
"Yeah, that's it girl," he rasps, "let it go."
You cry out, your back arching. He holds your legs apart with his free hand as you shake, trying to close them on him but he makes you come, leaning back down and flicking his fucking insanely dexterous tongue over your sensitive clit as you fall apart, clenching around him over and over until he finally slows and stops, leaving you a breathless mess.
You watch him as he gets to his feet, licking his fingers and lips with an admittedly well deserved satisfaction. He takes a sip of whiskey and offers you one too, before he sets it aside to unbutton his waistcoat and shirt. When you were close you could feel that he was built, but seeing him unclothed from the waist up had you drinking every chiseled inch of muscle in with a deep thirst.
You tugged at the bow to your bodice lacing, loosening it and turning so he could unwrap you. He said he was gonna take his time, and take his sweet time he does. He kisses every inch of your skin he exposes with reverence, repeating his praise of your beauty until you are naked but for your stockings. You push him back against the wall running your fingers through his hair, scratching your nails over his jaw as you kiss your way down his neck and broad chest. Your hand slides lower still, feeling every ridge and dip of muscle until he hisses and groans when you palm over his hard confined length.
"It's how you use it," you squeeze and he makes a gruff sound. "So use it."
He untangles himself from you only to strip off his boots and britches in a hot second, and then he's spinning you around, taking hold of your leg, lifting it up and sliding himself inside your slick heat with a grunt. You moan with the relief you feel as he fills you. He's perfect, hitting your spot as he thrusts into you slow and steady, like he could keep this up all night long if you asked him to. Your teeth graze along his collarbone as he fucks you up against the wall, his own pleasure quiet and restrained while you let the whole Kitchen know that some lucky guy is ringing the queen of the bordello's bell.
You wake up late, alone, sore but sated. The covers had been pulled up around your shoulders and you stretch out your body contentedly, until the realisation hits you that you hadn't taken any money from him.
Fuck.
You usually made your clients pay it up front but he had you so distracted…
When you roll over to push yourself up you freeze. There's a sizable stack of notes sitting there on your nightstand, way more than you were planning to charge when you counted them. You'd have to take it to your stash soon, it wasn't wise to have that much money laying around on the premises.
Frank Castle had proved himself, in more ways than one, and the girls were quick to grill you about him when you went to bathe.
"So, you survived, and how was he?" Madani smirks as you settle into the tub.
You can't stop the sly smile from spreading across your lips. "Thorough."
Karen laughs. "Yeah we kinda noticed you're late up, you never sleep in!"
You sigh softly, sinking into the hot water that was easing your sore muscles. "Oh you girls should get a piece for yourself, he sure knows how to treat a lady."
He had put your pleasure before everything else last night, and that was a rare thing in your line of work, especially from a drifter.
"Oh, believe us we've tried. I reckon all of the girls have been to his table. He was polite and all but he wasn't interested in any of us. Seems he only has eyes for you, sugar. How about that?"
You only raise a brow and carry on washing your hair, the gorgeous rose scent carrying in the steam of the baths.
Karen leans across nudging Madani. "Just look at her, she's smitten."
You throw your washcloth at them, splashing water everywhere. "Am not! It's just refreshin' to get a good customer once in a while."
Madani grins. "Oh you are sugar, you got them dreamy eyes, wonderin' if you're gonna see him again."
Karen cackles. "Yep, you get one good dick and you're already pickin' out your weddin' dress!"
"Quit it you two!"
-
You take half of your earnings to the bank that afternoon, the rest of it tucked securely in your garter to be deposited elsewhere. You never entirely trusted the banks to keep your nest egg safe. The church at the end of the street was quiet as usual, there were less and less god-fearing residents these days; it was more for decoration than worship.
"Father, it's just me!" You call as you walk down between the scruffy termite-ridden pews towards the altar. Reverend Murdock was arranging the bibles for Mass and lifted his head to flash you a smile.
"Haven't seen you here for some time, come to pray, confess, or make a deposit?"
Of all the people in this shithole of a town, it was perhaps surprising that the reverend understood you the most. He was a peculiar man in terms of the religion he supposedly practiced and preached. He didn't judge you harshly for your career path, and he always had an ear to lend whenever you needed it.
"It's the latter today, I'm actually getting close to having enough."
He chuckles, "and here I thought you'd drained the pocketbooks of all the men in this town! I kid, I'm happy to hear it although I'll miss you when you leave."
You retrieve your stashed bundle of notes and hand them to him as you embrace. "Well there's always fresh blood, father, and thank you, again.
"That's what I'm afraid of. Alright, I'll keep this safe for you. Will you be coming along tonight for prayer?"
You giggle. "I'm sorry father, I've been on my knees so much recently they're practically red raw, I don't think I can!" You slap him playfully on the arm and he chuckles along with you as you say your goodbyes.
-
"You know just how lucky you are, you mangy dog?" Billy was also grilling Frank on the previous night's activities.
"I do. You ain't gettin' anythin' outta me though. Gentleman never tells."
Billy just grins. "Gentleman… pah! Can see it already, one night Castle, and you're soft on her."
Frank shoots him a stony glare.
He holds his hands up in defense. "Don't blame you brother. You ready to go do this?"
-
The next night Frank appears with bloody knuckles and another thick stack of bills. He takes you apart on the bed. First with his fingers as your own hand curls around his cock and you pant into each other's mouths before you let him fuck you. Most men would take you from behind like you're only a hole for them, but not him. He lays you down, and you get a sense of just how big he is as he holds himself above you, his lips trailing tantalising kisses all over your skin before he enters you slowly. He treats you gently, he's making love to you, and it's not without a fiery passion. You wrap your legs around him tightly as you drag your nails lightly up his back at the unfiltered bliss you're experiencing.
"This okay, Miss? Goddamn y'feel fuckin' heavenly..."
You murmur your agreement. "Y'don't have to call me Miss anymore." you breathe. He rolls his hips deliciously, kissing up your neck and under your jaw as he moves like a wave.
"Mm, what should I be callin' you? Darlin'? Honey? Sweetheart?" He thrusts deeper with every term of endearment he suggests and you start to lose your mind.
"How 'bout just… my name?" And you whisper it to him, nipping gently at his earlobe.
"Such a pretty name, for a pretty girl." When it rolls off his tongue full of sin as he says it back to you, you're gone.
Afterwards, he uses your basin to clean up and starts reaching for his clothes and you make a decision.
"You got somewhere to be tonight Castle?" You ask, watching him pause at the question.
"Depends. Didn't think you'd want me to stay the night."
You pat the space on the mattress he's left beside you. "A girl can get lonely."
He hesitates for a mere moment before he climbs back in beside you. "Much rather be here than the boardin' house, that's for sure."
You smile and take his hand, your expression fading to concern as you kiss over his raw and bruised knuckles.
"Just business." He says in answer to your silent question.
"Not the fun kind." You offer.
He shakes his head and takes your hand in his with returning kisses. He wasn't going to tell you he bloodied his fists beating information out of someone, information that moved him ever closer to his revenge.
"You get the money alright?" He asks, changing the subject.
You nod. "It's more than I expected."
"Worth every penny." He looks down at your joined hands, his thumb passing mindlessly over your soft skin. "And uh, if you'll have me, I'll keep comin' as long as I'm around."
You find yourself stunned by his admission, yet another rarity to be asked if you wanted to see a man again. "You keep throwing all your money at me Frank, I'm gonna be outta here in no time."
"S'that right? You savin' up to escape?"
You nod.
"Know where you're gonna go?"
You don't normally talk about your plans with your customers, but for some reason you feel like you want to with Frank. "I dunno, just… somewhere else. Far away. It's been fun but I don't wanna be doin' this forever."
Frank nods and grabs the whiskey bottle, taking a slug. "So uh, s'that mean I might just be your last?"
You smile as you straddle him, stealing the drink from him. "Mm. You might just be, Frank."
You set the bottle down and idly trail random patterns over his bare chest with your fingers. "How long are you planning on staying?"
He gazes up at you, his expression suddenly solemn and hard and it makes you regret probing further.
"Until it's done." He simply says.
You're still half asleep and barely register when he kisses your cheek in the morning before he leaves. "Might be gone a couple days…" he whispers, but you only murmur softly as the bedroom door closes behind him.
-
He didn't bank on this, he was just following the trail of blood from town to town, and making a trail of his own as he tortured and despatched those that had wronged him in pursuit of vengeance. He thought it was so clear and simple, but now there was you. He had only meant to ease the weight of his task, to forget why he was doing this for a little while, to lose himself in a pretty girl.
Frank tightens the strap of the stirrups and pulls himself up into the saddle, checking his pistols are fully loaded before clicking his tongue and coaxing his horse onward.
-
You visit the church again to stash more of your savings. On the way the streets are rife with reports that there's been a massacre in the county and Reverend Murdock meets you at the door. "You hear the news? Bank got shot up in the next town, total carnage. Folks say there wasn't even money stolen, just the owners and the guards shot clean through the eye."
'What?" Your first thoughts go to Frank. You shouldn't have been surprised, you knew his reputation and it was clear he was in the area for a specific reason. You just hoped that if it turned out to be him that he did what he did for a damn good reason.
-
It's late and you're dozing as you're woken by a knock at your door. It's Josie.
"M'sorry to wake you love but it's the outlaw. Should I tell 'im to git? It's mighty late and frankly he's a mess but figured I should check with you first."
You could have just ignored him but something makes you pull on your robe and follow Josie downstairs. You thank her and open the door to find Frank leaning up against the frame. You already know the truth of what's happened. You can't see his face but you can tell he's injured.
"The bank?" You ask him.
He nods. "There's somethin' I wanna tell you, I know you don't owe me nothin' but…"
"C'mon," you beckon him in. "Leave your coat and shit down here."
You lead him through the empty bar up to the private bathroom and get the kettle from the range, sitting him down and taking a good look at him in the oil lamp light.
"M'fine." He protests, but you motion him to take off his dirty shirt and instantly spot an angry graze on his side. You grab a towel and wet it, dabbing the blood from the wound and making sure it's not deep. It's when you're in front of him that he finally speaks as you're cleaning a cut on his cheek.
"Few years back, a gang run by someone I owed money to broke into my home while I was outta town." Your eyes flick to meet his but you stay silent as you work, letting him continue.
"House wasn't empty though, my wife, my boy, my little girl were there…"
You sit back, feeling a coldness creep into the room.
"They uh, turned the place over lookin' for the money y'know, an' when they couldn't find none they killed them. Killed my family."
Your hand moves to cover your mouth in shock. You can't imagine what it would be like to face such horror. Your eyes brim with tears for both them and him. "Oh Frank! I- I'm so sorry."
He reaches for you, stroking the side of your face with a gentleness that used to contrast his demeanor. But not now.
"You don't gotta be sorry for me sweetheart. I've done my grievin'. Been searchin' for so long, tearin' up the world since then, and I finally found the fucker behind it all, and the fuckin' scum that worked under him, the ones that did it. Rotten to the fuckin' core, all of em."
"...and last night, you did it, they're dead aren't they, it's done?" You looked right at him, his gaze didn't waver.
"Yeah, It's done. My family, they can rest now." He sighs, saying those words out loud feels like a ten tonne weight has been lifted off his shoulders.
"Listen, they'll be lookin' for me, I gotta get outta here. I just- I guess I didn't wanna leave without sayin' goodbye."
You cup his face in your hands and lay a soft kiss on his lips. "Stay, rest. It ain't the kinda night to be riding off right now. You can set off at dawn."
He nods, conceding instantly. He's dog-tired from fighting, from riding, from thinking, but the thought of spending one last night in the haven of your bed was just what he needed.
You make sure he's fed and watered before you lead him to your room.
Frank promised himself that once this was over, once he had gotten closure, he'd allow himself a new life, one where there was peace. Maybe one day even happiness. As he curled his body around the warmth of your sleeping form he wondered if maybe you'd feature in it.
It was a stupid thought as you barely knew each other but maybe you knew enough. But either way he couldn't stop his dumb mouth from moving.
"Sweetheart," he calls into your skin. "I was thinkin'..."
You stir, turning in his arms and blinking open your eyes. He looks different, the darkness is gone. "Yeah Frank?"
"Know you were thinkin' o' leaving this place. Thought that maybe-"
You finish his sentence before he can. "I could go with you?"
He tucks a few stray strands of hair behind your ear. "Only if y'wanna. I know you're a strong woman, but the world's a dangerous place, an' I'd feel better knowin' that you're safe, least until you find somewhere y'wanna be."
"You'd protect me?" You ask, enjoying the way he suddenly turns bashful when you're looking at him the way you are, like he's offering up something that he's kept locked away for a long while.
"Would do my damned best. And, y'know, although he's good company, Billy ain't as pretty as you."
You smile at his charms and it coaxes one from him too. He pulls you closer, kissing you as he rolls you on top and you're careful to avoid his injury as you place your knees on either side of his hips. His hands run up your back, pulling your nightdress up and off over your head.
"Beautiful." He murmurs as he guides you back down to him, his lips laying sweet kisses along your neck.
"C'mere Castle." Your purr, working his underwear off and releasing his thickening cock. You moan into mouth as he captures your lips again, grinding up against your bare pussy.
A whispered fuck leaves him as you grasp him in your hand, lining him up and lowering yourself slowly down on him. "Yeah, that's it darlin'," his eyes are full of adoration as he watches you, he can't stop running his hands over you, feeling the softness of your skin and furrowing his fingers in your hair as you take him.
"Think you'd be happy enough only havin' me in your bed from now on?" Frank asks you.
You try not to laugh, to give him the satisfaction of knowing that if every time was gonna be like this then yes, you couldn't ever ask for more.
"Think I just might get by, Castle." You smile before your mouth meets his, your hips moving fluidly as you ride him slow. His hands hold your hips, the rough pads of his thumbs stroking your skin and the combined sensations drawing a sweet moan from your throat. He can't help but join you, the thought that there might be room for a little real love in both of your lives is a welcome one.
You draw nearer your peak, your breath hushed and clipped as Frank commands your pleasure. His thumb dances over your clit, his eyes transfixed on your face as you unravel for him. Your sweet cunt pulses and flutters around his cock and he follows you into that euphoric state, spilling inside you with a freeing moan.
He holds you as you're laying on him, tangled in the sheets and each other.
"So where we headin' to first?"
He strokes your cheek and cocks his head. "S'that a yes?"
You kiss him on the bridge of his nose. You'd miss your girls, Josie, the reverend… but this was what you'd been waiting so long for.
"Yes, I'll come with you Castle."

Billy Russo x reader
Summary: Inheriting your grandmother's house, you quickly realize you need some help fixing it up. So you call a local contractor, Billy Russo.
Warnings: pining. Sooo much pining. Fluff, mentions of Billy's not so happy past, kissing, fingering, unprotected sex.
Author's note: I made for my dear @e-dubbc11 after this little thot exchange. Ericca, I know my original plan was to make it for your birthday, so I'm sorry I'm late. But here it is. I hope you love it ❤️
Oh, and I was a little self-indulgent with the best friend... ops 🤣🙈
Tumblr media
Looking up at the old house where you’ve spent every summer as a kid, you smile to yourself. The years had been hard on the woodwork and ever since your grandmother moved to the nursery home, everything had been left untouched. Bushes growing wild, the grass so tall you could easily hide in it. But still, it felt like it always had. It felt like home and now it was yours.
The front door binds a little as you try to push it open, the smell of stale air instantly hitting you like a brick wall. Yeah, you should probably open the windows, get some fresh air in. Walking around, you notice how every surface is covered in dust, cobwebs hanging in almost every corner. This was gonna take a lot of work and you couldn’t wait to get started.
The first few days are spent cleaning. You’ve noticed a lot of damages to the house you can’t fix yourself, so you had already contacted a contractor in town, and you needed the place to look less abandoned before he would get here. The whole town may know all about your granny being away for years, but still… You couldn’t bring yourself to let strangers into a house that looked like a mess.
Tumblr media
Monday morning, as you sit with your morning coffee on the porch, two cars pull up in front of the house. Russo Home Repairs, supposedly the best in town. He sounded nice on the phone, which was a plus, but honestly you were just happy for the help.
Walking towards the cars, you almost trip over your feet when the driver gets out. You had expected an older man, not this. A tall and very handsome dark-haired man with a smile that could make a Colgate commercial jealous. As he comes closer, you see his dark eyes match the hair.
“You must be y/n? I’m Billy Russo.” He says, politely extending his hand for you to take. You take it, hoping he doesn’t notice how flustered you already are. He probably already knows the effect he has on women, but you’re quite embarrassed at how easily he makes your heart flutter.
Behind him, two men exits the second car. Like Mr. Russo, they are so handsome you almost think your life have changed into a Danielle Steel novel. When they introduce themselves as Quinn McKenna and Matt Murdock, you make a mental note to call your friend as soon as you get back inside. She needs to hear about this.
You manage to pull yourself together long enough to show the men around the property, discussing what needs to be done. Luckily, they are well-versed in both the interior and exterior, so they’re willing to help with the house as well as the grounds. Maybe two or three months of work. Already finding it hard to focus now, you don’t even know how you’ll manage a few months. This was gonna be hard.
Tumblr media
The buzzing of your phone pulls you out of your trance. And thank God for that, because you realize you’ve been staring at Mr. Russo for a good 10 minutes. But how can you not, when he makes tearing down a ceiling look so good? Tapping the green icon, you exhale sharply, not even trying to hide your frustration.
“It’s that bad?”
“It is. Instead of doing something useful, I’ve been staring at him for 10 minutes.” You whisper, pushing away from your little chair in the corner, walking into the next room. On the other end Lily just laughs.
“He can’t be that hot.”
“He is. They all are.” You sigh, sitting down in a corner, strategically placed so you can still watch the three gorgeous men making quick work of demolishing the living room. It should be illegal having this sinful sight before you. Tool belts hung low on their hips, making their pants slide down slightly. Their t-shirts sliding up as they raise their arms, revealing a bit of skin. Really, really good-looking skin. Looking with no shame, you follow the little happy trail down to where it disappears under the waistband. Almost whining, you turn away from them. “I need to find another contractor.”
“And not even give me a chance to see their hotness for myself? No way.” She states, the sound of fingers tapping away on her keyboard. “When you asked me to help you with the house, all I had to look forward to was mildew. So you’re not firing the hunks before I get a chance to see them.”
And as promised, you didn’t. Lily arrives a few days later and not even a minute after exiting her car, she stares at the house, mouth open wide as she slowly removes her sunglasses. You already know what caught her eye, as you glance at the porch where the men are taking a break.
“Holy shit.” Lily gasps, staring at them like you’ve done the last few weeks. “They are freaking hot!”
“Told you.” You smirk, as you gesture for her to follow you up to the house. Leaning in closer, Lily whispers under her breath. “How you’ve manged not to get water damage in your basement is beyond me, cause mine’s already flooded.” Lily moan desperately.
Unable to hold back, you burst out laughing, attracting the attention of the men. Billy’s dark eyes find yours and instantly you feel warm. Damn, a man should not hold this much power over you.
Tumblr media
The next few days are spend trying to work. The keyword was trying. You and Lily often found yourself staring at the men instead of doing any actual work. Lily kept whispering lewd comments in your ear, causing you both to giggle like schoolgirls. The men often looked at you with knowing smiles on their faces. There was no way they didn’t know, but no one said anything.
Shared lunch became a steady ritual, most days spent together in the shadow under the big tree. Lily and Matt often sat beside each other, him with a giant smile and Lily blushing a bright pink. They were quite sweet, dancing around each other. It was only a matter of time, you thought, before you’d stumble in on them going at it in the guestroom.
You, on the other hand, only had eyes for Billy. You had tried to write if of as a simple crush, but by each passing day you felt yourself growing fonder of him. He had told you about his past, growing up in a group home and later joining the marines. But it was a hard life, so he had retired, moved to this quiet little town in Connecticut and started his company with his friends. He had been through so much, but still had a positive outlook on life. It only made you like him more.
You all fall into this casual rhythm. They’re no longer just men working here. They always seem to linger, never really eager to go home. They are all single, an information you got thanks to Lily, so some days they stayed for dinner since they didn’t have any places to go after work.
As you sit in the backyard, eating another slice of pizza that’s already turned cold, you look at Billy. The last rays of sunshine falls on his face, accentuating his beautiful features. He really is very beautiful. He doesn’t notice you looking at him, at least you don’t hope so, his eyes fixed on Quinn and Matt as they gang up on Lily, throwing her in the pool. When he laughs, he scrunches his nose ever so slightly.
You allow your eyes to wander down. There’s no harm in looking, right? His upper body is bare after his dip in the pool, small beads of water still clinging to his soft skin. You can’t help but notice the scars on his body, wondering how he got them.
“Finding anything interesting?”
You look up to find him looking at you with a soft smile. To your horror, you realize you’ve been leaning in closer, so you pull away. With a light chuckle, he turns to you, his beautiful dark eyes even darker in fading sunlight. “It’s alright. You can ask.”
“How did you get that big one?” you ask, gently tracing your finger over the scars on his right shoulder. A soft sigh from Billy makes you realize what you’re doing, so you remove your fingers quickly.
“It’s not a very pretty story.” He looks down at the scar, tracing it with his thumb. There’s a sadness in his eyes, that makes you wanna reach out, to hug him, but you’re afraid you’ll overstep.
“Yeah, I can imagine war stories aren’t pretty.” You try, leaning in a little closer. He looks at you for a moment before he clears his throat.
“I was 10. At the group home, there was this…” he pauses, huffing out a cold laugh. “Good Samaritan. A guy who was supposed to take care of us. He took a liking to me, and he tried to…”
The expression on Billy’s face tells it all. You reach out and place your hand on his. He looks up at you, his eyes filled with the ghosts of his past. Ha takes your hand in his, his thumb drawing soothing circles on the back of your had. You wonder if it’s more for his benefit than your own. You don’t say a word, silently waiting for Billy to continue.
“I managed to defend myself, but he broke my arm. Tore the rotator cuff in three places.”
“I’m so sorry that happened to you.”
“It’s okay. My life didn’t turn out that bad. I mean, I ended up here.” He says with a playful smile that makes your heart flutter. “But it did destroy my chances of becoming a professional baseball player.”
“Oh, was that your big dream?”
“Absolutely. I could have been the next Joe DiMaggio.” He says confidently, puffing out his chest slightly. He looks adorable and you can’t help but giggle.
“I have no idea who that is.” You shrug apologetically, biting your bottom lip. Billy feigns being hurt, causing you to chuckle. He then excitedly tells you all about DiMaggio and as the sun sets in the horizon, minutes turn into hours as you slowly fall deeper in love with Billy.
Tumblr media
It was one of the hottest summers in years, which turned out to be a blessing. Sure, you were warm, but so were the guys, which meant several days with them shirtless. Today was one of those days. During your break from painting the kitchen, you and Lily found yourself doing your new favourite thing: watching the men work. Their muscles playing under their sun kissed skin, the beads of sweat dripping down their toned chests.
Lily sighs beside you, her eyes fixed on Matt as he sands down a piece of wood. Occasionally he wipes off the sawdust, his hands sliding over his perfect abs.
“Fuck, what I wouldn’t give to be that piece of wood.” She whines as she stuffs another piece of candy into her mouth. You just grin, nudging her shoulder.
“Why don’t you just go talk to him?”
“Huh, says the woman who’s practically drooling over the boss boy and haven’t made a move either.” Lily shoots back. You look over at Billy, just as he takes off his shirt, wiping away the sweat from his forehead. His chest is glistening in the midday sun, muscles flexed as he carries another piece of wood over to Matt and Quinn.
You don’t even hear Lily talking to you, lost in the sight before you. As Billy reaches for a pencil, the movement makes you look at his hips and how those pants hang dangerously low, showing of his v-line. What you wouldn’t give to run your tongue over-
“Okay, that’s it. I’m gonna go distract Quinn and Matt, while you talk to Billy.”
“What? What would I even talk to him about?”
“I don’t know, but you better think quickly.” Lily blurts out, before smiling wide. “Oh, I don’t know. Maybe Mr. Russo can help you.” she says with a raised voice, making Billy look up at the mentioning of his name. As you silently plan Lily’s murder, she just walks towards Matt with a giggle.
“What can I do for you, miss y/l/n?” Billy asks with a smile, as he walks closer, wiping his hands in the little cloth hanging from his toolbelt. Barely managing to tear your eyes away from his midsection, you look into his dark eyes, nervously fidgeting with your fingers.
“Uhm, was thinking that we could… uhm… fix the gazebo as well? Now that you’re here anyways.” You mumble, afraid you’re barely making sense. Relax, woman. He’s just a man. A very sexy, sweet man with a voice like velvet and eyes you could drown in.
Billy smiles softly, pointing towards where Lily is standing with Matt. “We already talked about this. Matt will fix it.”
You’re embarrassed and quite sure you’re as red as a tomato, judging by the grin on Billy’s face. Mumbling an apology, you avert his gaze, mortified. Never one to be a good liar, Lily should never have left you unsupervised.
To your surprise, Billy closes the distance between the two of you, his index finger hooking under your chin, carefully lifting your gaze to his. “Is there anything else I can do for you?”
As you take in his words, you forget how to breathe, focused on how close he is too you. You can feel the heat radiating of his body, drawing you in. How easy it would be to just lean in, just a few inches.
The sound of Billy’s phone pulls you back to reality. You pull away as he reaches for the phone. Flustered, you turn towards the house, tripping over your feet in your eagerness to get into the house, into safety. At this point you don’t think it’s even possible to get redder, still you feel the heat in your cheeks, when you hear Billy chuckling softly behind you. Shit, he saw. Dammit.
Once inside, you make your way into the kitchen. “Fucking stupid. Finally getting a chance and I embarrass myself.” Burying your face in your hands, you groan in defeat. “I can never look him in the eyes again.”
“I hope you will, cause I’d hate if I never got to see those beautiful eyes of yours again.”
Turning around, you find Billy leaning against the doorframe, smiling softly, his dark eyes fixed on you. He pushes of the frame, slowly making his way over to you. Stopping a few inches from you, he puts his hands on the counter on either side of you on the counter, caging you in.
“Ever since that first day, I’ve been waiting for a chance to get you alone.” He purrs, his hand coming up to cup your cheek. “Maybe I should have done something sooner.”
He leans in, eyes searching yours for permission. When your lips finally meet, it takes your breath away. For a moment, all that exists is his lips against yours. His soft, perfect lips. Your entire body is on fire, his touch sending shivers down your spine. Breaking away for air, your breathing is already strained, never felt like this before.
He leans in to kiss you again, the feeling of his lips like gasoline to the fire. Unable to hold back, your hand moves up his muscular body, ending entangled in his hair. Pulling him closer, your claim his lips in another greedy kiss. Moving his hands down, he hoists you up by your thighs, lifting you up onto the counter.
Billy’s strong hands move up your thighs, pushing your dress out of the way. Leaning in, he kisses down the column of your neck, pulling sweet whimpers from you. Greedy hands roam over your body, pulling your dress down. Kissing his way down to your breast, he takes your nipple into his mouth.
“Fuck.” You moan out, throwing your head back in ecstasy. You can feel Billy smirking against your skin, sucking your nipple harder. His free hand finds your core, already soaking wet for him. Pushing one finger into your wet heat, you whimper out his name, begging for more.
“Billy, please, just… Please…” you plea desperately. Billy claims your lips in a greedy kiss, pushing another finger into you. It takes no time for you to come around his skilled fingers, burying your head in the crook of his neck to stifle your moan.
“Shh, don’t want the others to hear us.” He whispers with a grin, pulling his fingers from your cunt only to lick your slick off his long digits.
Trembling with anticipation, your fingers make quick work of his belt and zipper, pulling his pants down just enough to free his aching cock. Captivated, you watch as he fists himself, pumping his cock a few times. The muscles of his abdomen tighten with each pass of his fist, making you clench around nothing.
He lines himself up, the head of his cock grazes your slick lips, sending small bolts of pleasure through your body. Billy leans forward, his breath ghosting against your earlobe, “I've been dreaming about this.”
He kisses your neck softly, pulling soft whimpers from you. Pushing forward, his cock parts your lips with ease. He buries himself in one thrust, deep enough to make you shiver. You look into his beautiful lustblown eyes, dark like obsidian. You kiss him with unknown hunger, weeks of want poured into it. And then he starts moving, slow deep thrusts. Billy whimpers, his breath hitched, overwhelmed by the feeling of you.
Thrusting into you at a steady pace, he makes you whimper, pulling the most sinful noises from you with each drag of his delicious cock. You’re lost in the feeling of him, lost in the pleasure. Barely able to think, you can barely form a sentence.
A few more drags of his cock is all it takes, before you clamp down on him, screaming out his name as you come undone. It’s not before Billy follows, emptying himself in you, filling you up with his cum. You fall against him, both of you panting heavily.
As you both come down from your high, Billy holds you close, not wanting to let go as he plants soft kisses on your lips and neck. You stay like that for a few minutes, just savouring each other.
"Fuck. Not you guys too"
You turn to find Quinn in the doorway, his expression priceless. Clearly frustrated, he walks to the fridge and finds a beer, twisting off the cap. You try your best to cover up, the situation so weird you can't do nothing but laugh.
"It's bad enough I had to look at the lovesick puppies out there, playing tonsil tennis. And now this?!" He points at the two of you, taking a sip of his beer. "What about me?"
You and Billy can't help but chuckle as he does his best to pull away without exposing you. When you're descent he helps you down from the counter. You walk over and pat Quinn lovingly on the cheek, giggling softly.
"Don't worry. I have a friend that would love you."
"I fucking hope so." Quinn says, as he walks out of the kitchen, sipping his beer. Billy turn to you, laughing as he cups your cheeks. Placing another soft kiss on your lips, he looks into your eyes. "Are you okay?"
"Never been better." You say with a smile, already looking forward to the rest of the summer.

Just Beneath The Flames (Part 2)
Pairing: Billy Russo x Reader
Tumblr media
Warnings: cursing, smut at some point probably lmao, zombie shit, typical canon violence. You know the drill.
A/N: I just wanna thank everyone for the love of this story so far! I love that you guys like it so much and I hope you continue to love it!
—-----------------
The walk back to the camp was a lot less tense than the walk before. You were feeling a little more relaxed knowing that at least for the time being, you had one less problem to worry about. The men spoke in hushed tones to each other, looking like they were riding a slight high after all the violence. You really couldn't bring yourself to care though, not when they’d helped you with the assholes and also given you food. They may have just saved your life twice over. When you finally got back to the camp, Karen rushed over, whisking Frank away as she hugged him, clearly happy he was unscathed. Billy went over to who you now knew to be Micro and Curtis, now awake, as you just stood on the periphery of the camp, feeling very much like the outsider you were. You hovered uncertainly, waiting to be taken to the hunting store. You knew there was one around in the area but since you had no vehicle and it wasn't super close, you’d never ventured that far. You’d traveled around for far too long and you’d finally set up base. You didn't want to have to travel and get caught out there, especially when the assholes were still alive. You knew you’d have to move again eventually. The food would run out, the stores picked clean and probably another group of crazy people would turn up. It was just how it was now. But you liked where you were and you wanted to stay there as much as possible. It was hard traveling all the time, not taking any roots. It left you feeling unsettled and all over the place.
“Hey, we haven't met yet. I’m Curtis,” the man smiled as he approached you. You hadn't met all of them yet although now you knew their names due to Frank. You hadn’t spoken to Micro’s wife or kids, not that you blamed them for keeping the weird stranger who had been planning to rob the camp from meeting the kids of the group. You wondered how hard that was. Having a group was stressful anyway, having others to look out for, to keep safe. But kids were a whole other ball game. They were more likely to make mistakes, being kids and all, and more likely to draw attention to themselves. You were glad your old group hadn't had kids, especially since everyone ended up dead.
“I’m Y/N,” you said with a polite yet slightly awkward smile. He opened his mouth to say something but Frank came over so he gave you another smile before moving back over to the main camp.
“Alright, Bill’s gonna take you up to the hunting store,” he muttered with a nod. You’d hoped it would have been Frank or at least he’d have been there. It was a little easier to talk to him given he was the one doing most of the talking. Billy was just cold so you knew it would be uncomfortable.
“Okay. When I’m done, I’m just gonna get him to drop me off near my camp,” you murmured, hitching your heavy backpack up a little. You wanted to make it clear you wouldn't be coming back, it almost felt rude to just vanish after going to the store without at least telling him. He nodded, looking thoughtful as he rubbed his chin a little.
“You sure I can’t convince you to join us?” he asked, giving you a tentative smile. You snorted and shook your head.
“Nah, I’m good. I wouldn't be averse to seeing you guys around again at some point though. Maybe we could look out for each other,” you replied softly, making him nod.
“Yeah, we could do that,” he smiled. You weren't quite sure what you could do for them if you were honest, maybe just tag along if they needed an extra person to help with something. You were mostly thinking of yourself, you had to in this world. It would be good to know you had a group of people to have your back if it came to it.
“You want me to tell the other’s you’re leavin’?” he asked and you shook your head rapidly.
“No… I’m just a stranger, don’t need to make shit weird with a goodbye speech,” you snorted ruefully.
“I get that,” he chuckled, glancing over at the others for a moment. Karen was saying something to Billy who was putting his sniper away before checking his handgun.
“Well… It was good meetin’ you, Y/N,” Frank muttered when his eyes drifted back to you.
“You too,” you smiled. It was nice meeting people that didn’t want to kill you, it felt like a rare thing these days. He gave you a light tap on the arm, walking back over to everyone and talking to Billy briefly. Billy then sauntered over to you.
“Ready?” he asked, not sounding too happy about being the one to take you. You wondered if Karen had forced Frank to stay after him going out there and putting himself in danger like he had.
“Yep,” you replied.
The ride in the black van was a little tense and uncomfortable. You knew he didn’t trust you, not that you blamed him. You didn’t fully trust him either. But the air was thick and you shifted in your seat, watching out the window as he drove. The world looked the same yet completely different. It was weird. It was still dark outside but the moon was full and bright. The only beauty left in the world.
“So… what d'you do before all this?” he asked after the longest silence in history. Your eyes moved from the window to him. He wasn't looking at you, looking out at the road, but at your silence, he glanced over at you. You wondered if the silence had been bothering him too.
“I was a veterinarian, not that it matters anymore,” you snorted sardonically. You’d loved your job with everything you had. You’d known from a young age you wanted to help animals.
“Nah, I don’t believe that shit,” he huffed, shaking his head.
“You don’t believe I was a vet?” you asked, sounding amused. He looked at you, a slight smirk on his face.
“Not that, that it doesn't matter anymore. Me and Frank, we were Marines. I’d say it helped quite a bit with the way shit went down. And Curtis was a medic, somethin’ pretty valuable now. I’m guessin’ being a vet… you got a lotta medical knowledge that helps too now,” he shrugged.
“Right… If your cat has a cough or your dog needs neutering, let me know,” you muttered with an eye roll and a snort.
“Nah, you know what I mean. You know some shit most of us don’t, probably even helped out with your old group ‘cause of it,” he mused, his dark eyes boring into you as he raised a brow. You looked away from him, eyes once again looking out of the window yet this time unfocused. You had tried to use some of your knowledge and training to help your old group, but that was the issue. Because no matter what you did, it didn't help and they wound up dead anyway. And while a part of you knew it was probably inevitable, that even a person with all the medical knowledge in the world probably couldn't have helped them, you couldn't help but feel like you failed them all. The drive once again became silent and tense, with Billy probably sensing your souring mood and deciding not to make further conversation. It didn't take too long after that though before you saw the row of stores, one of them being the hunting store. Billy didn’t park up front, not that you expected him to. Every move you made now had to be cautious, worrying about the living as well as the dead. Who knew what others resided in these parts none of you had met yet?
He pulled around the back and once parked, you opened the door and hopped out, grabbing the knife from your thigh. Billy came around the van too as you both started walking around the stores to the front silently. The street was eerily quiet and you weren't sure it was a good thing. Right now it was, it meant you didn’t have to fight through a sea of the dead to get what you wanted. But the absence of any roamers on the street only made you worried that a herd was somewhere. They liked to do that you noticed, bunch up into a group. It made it dangerous when you saw a pack of them. It was harder to go around undetected and they were ruthless, they could tear down a house if the group was big enough. Billy ended up walking in front of you a little, his dark eyes sweeping around much like yours were and you wondered if he was having the same observations. You both stopped outside of the door for the hunting store and Billy, holding his knife too, tapped on the glass a few times. It was a trick you’d also picked up, to gauge what mess awaited you inside. There were a few groans and you tilted your head a little.
“What you think? Two or three?” Billy asked quietly, his eyes turning to you.
“Three I think. Two in the front, maybe one in the back,” you replied as you listened and tried to gauge where you were hearing the noise. Billy looked slightly impressed for less than a second before he nodded and opened the door, clicking on a flashlight in his other hand. Billy went to the right so you went left, straight at one of the dead who stumbled around a shelf. It was dark with no electricity, but your eyes were used to the darkness now, you’d adjusted to being able to see better than you had before the world fell apart. Billy’s flashlight was pretty bright too and it spilled over to your side of the store. You didn’t hesitate to shove your knife right through the dead one’s eye socket, pulling the knife out roughly as it stopped moving and making noise. It hit the floor with a heavy thud. At one point, you’d hated having to do this. Back when they still looked like people and weren't so badly decomposed. It was harder that way, to look at someone and think of who they used to be. To see a person. But most of them now looked like the monsters they were and you didn’t see any humanity when you looked at them. It was easier that way. When you looked over at the other side of the store, Billy was wiping his knife on the shirt of the dead guy on the floor. He stood back up, his eyes meeting yours for a moment as the last one still groaned. As you thought, it was coming from the back room.
“I got it,” he muttered, twirling his knife gracefully in his hand before he strolled off to the back room, most of the light going with him.
You looked around, shoulders slumping a little now you were finally taking in the place. It was picked clean, nothing good or useful left. You felt disappointment settle like a stone in your stomach as you heaved a large sigh. You jumped when a sharp whistle pierced the air, your head whipping to the open back room door to see Billy. He gestured with his head to come over before he disappeared. Your first response was to bristle at being whistled at like that, like you were a dog. But you realized it seemed to be how the group communicated with each other and it was probably second nature to him. You walked over and walked inside, the backroom a little brighter with Billy's flashlight. Your eyes darted around the room, noticing the dead man on the floor before looking at some of the things in the back room. It wasn't full of supplies but it at least had something. Both you and Billy started to rifle through the boxes and you hoped you'd find what you were looking for. Billy let out a low whistle like he was impressed and when you looked over, he had a large machete in his hands. He unsheathed it, grin on his face as he looked at it. Both the blade and handle were black and it was pretty hefty looking. He chuckled, putting it back in the sheath before attaching it to his belt. You moved around closer to the back end of the room and stopped when you saw a box. There staring at you was a Hoyt Torrex XT Compound Hunting Bow. it wasn’t a fancy one by any means, more of a budget model, but you knew it was good and it would certainly do the job. You’d been without a bow close to a year now and with food getting harder and harder to get, you knew this would be the difference between being able to eat and starving to death. You grinned, all but ripping the bow out of the box and grabbing it, weighing it in your hand. It felt good, you almost felt like you’d got a lost limb back. You rummaged around more near the area, pleased to find a bunch of arrows. You could always make them if you needed to but they wouldn't be as precise as ones like these. You found a quiver nearby, putting the arrows into it and shouldering it. It would be a little annoying with your backpack which was currently left in the van, but you’d figure something out another time. You turned to Billy who was shoving stuff in his bag. You weren’t quite sure what and you didn't care too much either.
“I’m done,” you said, clutching the bow in your hand. He looked up after he zipped his bag, a slightly amused look on his face at the sight of you with a bow.
“Alright,” he nodded, slinging his backpack back on. You both made your way back to the front of the store, Billy cautiously looking out of the door before leaving entirely. You followed him back around to the van at the back of the store, putting the quiver by the bag in the footwell before climbing inside with the bow in your lap.
The drive started off silent once more as he started his journey back. You’d be getting dropped off just a little past halfway back from the store and you couldn't wait to just settle down and get some sleep. You were exhausted from all the drama of the night.
“You know how to use that thing?” Billy asked with a condescending tone and a condescending smile to match.
“Yep,” you replied vaguely, giving him a wan smile. You could have told him you’d taken archery classes when you were younger, how your parents insisted you and your brother do it along with various extracurricular activities. That you’d been a natural in it and excelled. You couldn't be bothered though, especially with his tone. You still couldn't get a read on him, couldn't decide if you liked him much. He seemed decent enough but he was a little cocky and patronizing sometimes. He rolled his eyes at your answer as he kept on driving. When you got to a more familiar place, somehow recognizing the trees even though they all seemed to look the same, you looked over at him.
“You can just drop me off here,” you said softly. He slowed the van before it stopped and he had a weird look on his face as he looked at you.
“Your camp here?” he asked.
“Around abouts,” you shrugged. He scoffed, shaking his head with the smirk that seemed to permanently live on his face.
“So you know where our camp is but we can’t know where yours is?” he asked with slightly narrowed eyes.
“Basically. Knowing where I’m staying wasn’t part of the deal,” you smirked, opening the van door. You hopped out, grabbing your bag and putting it on one shoulder, the quiver over the other and your bow in your hand.
“See you around,” you said, giving him a rueful smile at his put-out face.
“Yeah…” he muttered, tilting his head. You shut the door and didn’t spare him another look as you walked off into the trees. It didn't take you too long before you felt relief seep into your bones when you spied the tree house.
You weren't sure who built it out here or why and it wasn’t small either. It was pretty decently sized in a large thick tree. You’d stumbled on it by chance. You made your way over, carefully climbing up the rope and wood ladder, being mindful that your balance was a little off with all the weight you were carrying. Once in the treehouse, you pulled up the ladder like you always did so no one else could get inside while you were there. There was no door which meant the cold was still a problem. You hadn't had a winter here yet but you knew it would be coming soon. You weren't looking forward to it. It was roomy for a treehouse and you had a sleeping bag and pile of blankets in one corner. The other corner that usually housed your food was bare but you smiled to yourself as you emptied your very full bag, neatly stacking the cans and other items you’d gotten. You put the bow, your new pride and joy, just under the window with the arrows. You wanted to go hunting in the next few days. You’d never hunted animals before the turn, it kind of went against your whole thing about being a vet. But it was necessary now and you were always respectful to the animal, never made them suffer. Your body was drained and you lay down, wrapping yourself in your many blankets as you snuggled into them. You'd had a pretty decent night and it made you a little hopeful for the future.
Two days later and you were stalking through the woods silently, following a deer. When you’d started hunting for food with your old bow, you only ever found small game. Rabbits, squirrels, but never a deer. You were slightly nervous but you made sure your footfalls were as silent as can be so you didn't startle it, waiting for the right moment to strike. You knew it would be a lot of meat and you didn’t want to pass it up, but you also knew you didn’t have a way to preserve it and it would be far too much for just you. You thought about keeping what you could for yourself and giving the rest to Frank and his group. It wouldn’t last as long with the group having many people in it, but they’d get a good few meals out of it. Something more substantial than shitty canned foods and protein bars. The deer finally stopped and you held your breath, aiming your bow as you blew out slowly. You aimed for just below the halfway point in its chest, just behind its front leg. You knew that's where its heart and lungs were and you wanted this to be a clean and quick kill. Not only because you didn't want to go chasing it through the woods but because you didn't want the animal to needlessly suffer.
“I’m sorry,” you whispered, the light voice carried off in the wind as you let your arrow fly. It struck just where you aimed as the deer ran off panicked as you knew it would. It didn't get far before it collapsed though, now lifeless. You took a shaky breath, a small frown on your face as you walked over to it. You really didn't get any joy out of doing this, it’s just how things were now. You bent down and took the arrow out carefully, wiping it on your pants before putting it back in your quiver. You stroked its soft fur for a moment as you silently thanked the animal. It wouldn't go to waste, it would feed you for a while and Frank’s camp would also benefit from it. You tied its front legs together before doing the same to the back, leaving some twine from the front to the back so you could carry it easier. It wasn’t a large deer but you knew it would be heavy. You grunted as you heaved it up, wearing it almost like a bag with the twine around your shoulder. The extra weight made you a little slower to get back to your camp but you hadn’t gone too far. Once you got back, you set to prepping the meat under the large tree your treehouse was in. You’d already set up a campfire down here for you to cook your food with, not wanting to set fire to the treehouse.
You weren't sure what time it was when you were done, wasn't sure what time it was at all anymore other than day and night. But it was still light and you knew it was early when you’d gone out to hunt. You mused it was probably around afternoon-ish. You pulled some plastic bags from your backpack that had been sitting at the bottom of the tree. You’d found a roll of them once in a store and decided to take them. You did that a lot, finding random shit and taking it, not knowing when you’d use it. It had proved to be pretty handy. You put in the meat you’d prepped for Frank and his camp, it was a decent amount and depending on how they rationed it, it might last them a few days. You wanted to find a way to preserve meat naturally so it would last longer. It was getting colder these days which would help but it would still spoil far too quickly for your liking. It would be better if you could hunt in advance, knowing it would get harder in the winter. Back in your old group, Derek, an older man, had made jerky because it would last for a long time and it was easier to carry around with you. You thought you still remembered how to do it but it would be hard since it was getting closer to the winter months. Derek had done it naturally by hanging them in the sun and heat of the sweltering summer. You knew salt would help to preserve the meat but you hadn’t been able to find any in your trips to various stores. When you were done getting Frank’s meat ready, you put your own in a bag and then buried it to keep it cooler until you got back. It wasn't perfect but it would have to do. You also buried all the innards in a different hole to avoid drawing the dead to you with the smell. It took a while to get everything sorted and done and you wanted to head out before it got dark. You never really liked being out at night. While you’d adjusted to see better and had somewhat got used to this life, it was incredibly eerie out in the woods at night, especially if the dead were around and groaning in the distance. You put Frank’s meat in your bag, leaving your bow behind as you made sure you had your knife strapped to your thigh and then set out. The camp wasn't too far but far enough that you still felt nice and secluded. Despite going there only once, you remembered the path vividly.
You heard them talking, although it wasn't too loud, as you weaved through the trees to the camp. You felt a little awkward just showing up like this but you knew they wouldn't be mad since you brought them food. It was just strange for you now, helping others, doing something nice. You’d only had yourself to worry about for so long and in a way you liked it that way after all the shit you’d been through. But a part of you missed the camaraderie of being with others, the safety it gave you in numbers. Just talking to another human and not yourself. Karen was the first to see you, jumping up from where she had been sitting next to Frank at the fire as she made a beeline for you.
“Y/N!” she beamed, making you feel even more awkward as she seemed so happy to see you. She almost looked like she was about to scoop you up in a hug but she seemed to think better of it. Maybe it was your incredibly tense posture. You hadn’t been able to help it.
“Hey,” you murmured awkwardly, a smile toying on your lips.
“It's so good to see you,” she grinned and you looked over at the fire when you saw movement. Frank was now coming your way as the others looked at you.
“Back so soon? Please tell me you're not bringin' bad news about another group,” he smirked wryly, making you snort. You slipped your backpack off your shoulder as you shook your head.
“No bad news but I did bring this,” you replied, pulling the meat-filled bag out of your bag.
“What is it?” Micro piped up curiously from where he was sitting. While you weren't directly at the campfire, you were within hearing distance.
“Deer, caught it this morning,” you shrugged as Frank took the bag.
“You’ve gotta be fuckin’ kiddin’ me,” Billy huffed with a sour face, making you look at him.
“Don’t mind him, he’s just bitter ‘cause he hasn’t bagged a deer yet,” Frank snorted, making you smile as you looked away from Billy who was glowering at you.
“We really appreciate this,” Frank added, a meaningful look on his face. They didn’t seem like they were struggling for food too much but you knew just as well as they did that it didn’t last long. And for the harsher colder months where fresh meat would be harder to find, the canned goods were best saved for then.
“You didn’t need to do this, Y/N,” Karen murmured. She was smiling but she also looked a little guilty and you knew exactly what was going through her head.
“I can’t eat it all and it’ll just go to waste. Figured you guys could use it. Get some good protein in the kids that doesn't come from bars,” you said ruefully.
“Thank you,” you turned to look at the sincere voice to see it came from Sarah, Micro’s wife and you nodded at her. You didn’t know how she did it, having kids in a world like this.
“Do you want some cans or anything?” Frank asked, making a move to go over to where their food was in crates but you shook your head quickly, stopping him in his tracks.
“I’m good. This isn't a trade or anything… Just me being… a good neighbor, I guess,” you snorted and he chuckled at your words.
“At least stay and eat with us,” Karen insisted, her eyes imploring.
“You don't have to do that, I’ve got meat back at my camp,” you protested, not really wanting to stick around too long. You felt like you connected with Karen and Frank in a way. The way you did when the world goes to hell in a handbasket and you didn't need to know people long before you knew you could count on them. But you still really didn't know the others and still weren't sure about Billy. It was a little uncomfortable for you to encroach on their eating time like this.
“I don’t care, you're eating with us,” Karen said firmly, snatching the bag of meat from Frank before she strode over to the fire with purpose. Frank barked a laugh and shook his head fondly at her before giving you a look with a raised brow.
“The lady’s spoken, you ain’t goin’ anywhere,” he grinned. You started to wonder who was really in charge here.
It was far more awkward to just leave now after Karen's declaration so you followed Frank to the fire area where everyone was dotted about. Some of the others smiled or nodded at you, not seemingly minding a stranger in their midst. You weren't quite sure where to sit but the only available spot was next to Billy who was sharpening his knife with some kind of rock. You took your backpack off, setting it on the floor before sitting down carefully. You’d purposely left some space between you and Billy so he didn’t feel like you were crowding him. Karen started cooking the meat and everyone seemed to be in good spirits. No one really spoke to you directly but the conversations seemed to be open to anyone as they all conversed with each other, you’d just chosen not to really engage. You just felt like an outsider. You were.
“So, where'd you find the deer?” Billy asked after a long while. When you turned to glance at him, his dark eyes were already watching you.
“A little north of my camp,” you explained with a shrug. His lips quirked into an amused smirk, his eyes going back to his knife.
“Right… that’d be helpful if I knew where your camp was,” he drawled mockingly and you smirked to yourself.
“Can’t give away all my secrets, Billy,” you snorted. It made him chuckle and shake his head. He seemed the type to hate not knowing things and you weren't sure why you enjoyed annoying him a little.
“How’s that bow treatin’ you?” he asked. You hadn't expected him to make idle conversation with you but you went along with it. It would make you look a lot less weird than you just sitting there silently and staring off into the fire.
“It’s good. Not as good as my old bow, but it gets the job done,” you murmured, making his eyes turn to you again.
“What bow did you have?” he asked curiously. Your lips curled into a wry grin as you pointed to his that was resting against a tree not too far away. He looked over his shoulder at it before chuckling again.
“You tellin’ me you know how to handle that thing?” he asked, that patronizing tone back in his voice.
“Which one of us bagged a deer again?” you asked, brows raised in amusement. He rolled his eyes and sharpened his knife a little more aggressively.
“Just ‘cause I ain’t found one yet doesn’t mean I can’t get one,” he muttered, sounding like a child and you bit your lower lip to hide your smirk.
“Mhm, sure. You do know how to track, right?” you asked condescendingly, making his head snap in your direction as he glared at you, his mouth slightly agape at your audacity.
“Here you go,” Karen grinned, handing you the cooked meat on a paper plate. You took it with a grateful smile and then she handed Billy’s to him. The idea of some good meat seemed to take precedence over you mocking his skills as he grinned at Karen and wasted no time in shoveling the food in his mouth. Everyone gathered by the fire as they ate and made conversation. It was going well until someone decided to outright speak to you.
“So, Y/N, Billy told me you were a vet before all of this,” Curtis smiled warmly. You glanced up, mouth still full of food and you swallowed it down, feeling uncomfortable as all eyes turned to you.
“Uh… yeah,” you answered, giving him a polite smile back. You weren’t quite sure what else to say to that if you were honest. It was all in the past, a time long forgotten and none of it mattered anymore.
“That's good, some good skills there. I bet they’ve come in handy for you since the turn,” he replied and you felt the bitter pang hit you right in the chest.
“If by coming in handy, you mean failing everyone I cared about then… sure,” you gave him a wan smile as you continued to eat, an uncomfortable silence settling over the group at your words and tone. You were thankful when Karen started conversation up again and the group slowly eased back into it. You couldn't help yourself though. You were sick of people presuming because you’d been a vet that you were some kind of healer now. You’d failed, numerous times by now. You didn’t need reminding over and over again. You ate your food and tried to keep out of conversation, but then it turned into the group discussing the lack of dead ones lurking around in the forest. You couldn't help but listen to the conversation as you licked your fingers, not letting anything go to waste.
“That’s a good thing though, right? I mean, if there’s less of them here then we should be safe,” Sarah said, looking mildly relieved as she looked between Frank and Micro who had been the main ones talking about it.
“Not really,” the words slipped out of your mouth before you could even help yourself. You were starting to think you wouldn't get invited to camp again after this for being such a Debbie Downer. All eyes looked at you once more and you shrunk in on yourself a little.
“What do you mean?” Sarah asked, a small frown on her face. You blew out a sigh with a shrug.
“It’s not usually a good sign that there’s not many around. The dead ones are like animals and sometimes, they travel in herds. I’ve seen some up to as large as a hundred. From my experience, when it seems quiet, not long after a big group shows up. You really don't wanna be caught up in that sh-... stuff,” you quickly changed shit for stuff simply because the kids were here too, both of them watching you with wide eyes at your words. You didn’t want to scare people but you knew they had to be safe. Not everyone had seen the dead travel in groups before, some people didn't even know they did. You’d rather warn them in case a herd burst through the area than turn up here one day to find them all dead. Sarah’s concerned face snapped to Frank then and he looked deep in thought before he looked at Billy.
“We need to keep an eye out, see if we can spot ‘em anywhere,” he muttered gravely and Billy nodded, looking a little tense and like he was thinking. You wiped your hands on your jeans, deciding you’d probably depressed them all enough for one day.
“Alright, I’m gonna head back before it gets dark,” you murmured, moving to stand up. Most people in the group started talking over each other, thanking you for bringing the deer and it was hard to keep up with who was saying what.
“Want me to walk you back or anything?” Frank offered. It seemed like he felt indebted to you or something over the meat but you shook your head with a grateful smile.
“Nah, I’m good,” you said softly.
“Can’t give away your secrets, right?” Billy asked from where he was sitting. When you looked at him, he was giving you that patent amused smirk and you snorted.
“I’ll see you guys around,” you smiled, grabbing your backpack and slinging it on.
“Stay safe,” Karen insisted, a concerned smile on her face.
“I’ll try,” you smirked wryly before turning your back and heading off.
The walk back wasn’t far and far too quiet, it made you think of what you’d said at the campfire. You never thought you’d dread the days where the dead were scarce, but you knew it didn't always mean good things and it worried you. You were almost home when you rolled your eyes. The whole way home you’d had that weird feeling, the one you get when you know someone’s watching you. When the hair on the back of your neck prickles up. You knew it very well but you’d tried to ignore it thinking you were being paranoid, but when it didn’t go away, you realized you weren’t being paranoid at all.
“I know you’re there, Billy,” you snorted, stopping and turning around. There was pure silence for a beat and part of you started to wonder if you were wrong, but then he stepped out from behind a tree with a lazy smirk on his face like he wasn't even sorry for it.
“What gave it away?” he asked with an impish grin, brows raised.
“You’re not as stealthy as you might think,” you stated flatly. He looked like someone just smacked him in the face and it made you smirk to yourself.
“Excuse me? I was known for bein’ stealthy in the Marines, so don’t give me that shit,” he huffed indignantly.
Why are you following me?” you asked, raising a brow. He licked his lower lip looking somewhat amused as he shrugged.
“Wanted to make sure you got back okay,” he answered smoothly, his dark eyes pinning you in place.
“Something tells me that’s a load of shit,” you replied with a smirk and he chuckled, once again shrugging.
“Maybe I just wanted to see where you’re hidin’ out since you’re bein’ so secretive about it. I don’t like secrets,” he punctuated his words with a patronizing smile and you rolled your eyes heavenward.
“I’m not being secretive just because I like being alone,” you muttered.
“Right, well I-” his words cut off abruptly at the sound of groaning, but it wasn’t the sound of one or two dead ones. No, this was a chorus of groaning that suddenly made you feel like someone poured ice-cold water over you. It was like your earlier words had come back to bite you in the ass, like you’d summoned them here by simply talking about them. Both yours and Billy’s heads shot to the side of you, seeing the dead pouring through the trees towards you.
“Shit,” Billy hissed, turning around to head back the way he came. You knew what he was thinking, he was thinking about his people. But instead of making a fast retreat back, he was greeted with more of the dead and you felt your heartbeat skyrocket so much you heard it in your ears.
“We gotta go!” you insisted firmly, moving over to him.
“I can’t just fuckin’ leave! Frank-” he started arguing, his face looking frantic.
“You’ll lead them right to the camp, Billy,” you hissed urgently, seeing the dead getting closer and closer to you. He looked conflicted, eyes darting behind him to where his camp was, where a sea of the dead were cutting him right off from getting back to his people and then to you.
“If these guys came from that way…” his tone was laced with pain but you shook your head.
“They could have come from anywhere and turned up here, we need to go!” you commanded harshly. You didn’t want to leave him here like this but like hell you were waiting for the dead to be too close to get away from. He growled, shaking his head and you felt annoyance hit you like a mack truck. You grabbed his wrist and started tugging him in the direction of your treehouse. At least up there you’d be safe until they passed. While he didn’t seem happy about it, he let you tug him so you knew he saw some sense at least as he’d easily be able to break from your hold if he wanted. You both ran with the dead on your heels, you still gripping his wrists in case his stupidity won out until you got to your large tree. You shoved him towards the ladder and he didn't hesitate to go up it, you right behind him. The pair of you settled on the floor either side of the open doorway and you panted, trying to catch your breath as you looked out of it and quickly pulled the ladder up. The dead couldn’t climb but you weren’t taking any chances. The dead ambled their way past, their groans almost deafening you and making you wince. When you looked at Billy, he was staring outside too with a dark look on his face. You weren’t sure what to say to make him feel better. You meant it when you said they could have come from anywhere but they also could have come right through his camp. You weren't about to tell him everything was fine when it might not be, not with such certainty. You and Billy were both sitting in tense silence, the only sound in the treehouse coming from the roamers below as they walked by. You weren’t sure how many of them there were but it seemed never ending and unfortunately, a small group of them, maybe around seven, must have seen you go up as they lurked around the tree and didn’t follow the others. You blew out a breath and slumped against the wooden wall, knowing you were in for a wait, you just really hoped it wouldn't be for too long, mostly for Billy’s sake.

A/N: Miss me? 🤣 I had a lovely vacation, didn’t really look forward to going back to work but I’m happy to be back to writing. And if there’s anything you’d like to see from me, don’t hesitate to send something to my inbox. Come say hi! ♥️ So anyway, I saw a prompt on the blog @creativepromptsforwriting and I wanted to use it. #1061 - “I have wanted to kiss you every time I’ve seen you smile.” “Then why haven’t you yet?”
Oh and I make mention of Tyler Durden, Brad Pitt’s character in Fight Club. If you haven’t seen it, what are you waiting for…it’s classic!
Not much else to say except I hope you like it! ♥️
As always, thank you for reading!  I appreciate it so much and comments, reblogs are welcome and encouraged. Don’t be shy to tell me your favorite part. 💕💕 💕
Before you had even set one foot into the bar today, you felt his presence.
That gut feeling you had all day while you were at work, a combination of butterflies and knots danced and twisted around in your stomach as you kept glancing at the time, waiting for the moment you could clock out so you could go and meet your friends for your usual Friday after-work drink.
For the past month, you had noticed him. The way his long dexterous fingers wrapped around the glass of bourbon, the way his throat moved up and down as the amber liquid trickled down his throat, and the clenching of his teeth as his drink hit his stomach.
He was so handsome, mysterious, and sexy as fuck. His eyes looked like two pieces of onyx that shined when the dim lights of the bar hit them just right and you tried your hardest not to seem like you were staring at him but he probably knew you were.
Every woman in that place stared at him. How could they not? Between his handsome face, the fancy suit and tie, those eyes you could get lost in, and a smile that made you weak in the knees, you were irresistibly drawn to him. He could have his pick of any woman but you were surprised that every woman that threw themselves at him, he turned them all down.
Why?
Actually, you didn’t care why he turned them down. You only cared that he did turn them down and you didn’t have to watch him leave with someone that wasn’t you but you were too shy to even think of speaking to someone of his caliber.
All of those thoughts disappeared as soon as you saw your friends waiting for you. You were there to have a good time with them, not to gawk at the handsome man in the fancy suit. They had saved you a seat and it happened to be near Mr. Fancy Pants’ table.
Your gut never lied; he was there already.
He was drinking with a few other guys also dressed in fancy suits. Your heart jumped from your chest into your throat and you managed to catch a glimpse of him before he could return your gaze although he probably didn’t even look away from his friends.
“I’m bringing someone for you next week, y/n.” Your friend Jenna said.
Your mind was somewhere else and you were staring off into space so you didn’t exactly hear her.
“What?” You replied.
She glared at you, pointed and asked, “You didn’t pay attention to a word I just said, did you.”
You felt bad and apologized.
“I’m sorry, Jenna. I guess I’m a little distracted.” You replied.
Every woman in the bar had a crush on Mr. Fancy Pants, but you didn’t let it show that you did too. It was difficult but you acted like he wasn’t even there. If there was a way for you to become invisible so no one would see you ogling him, you would do it in a heartbeat.
Stolen glances would have to do…for now.
**********
The following Friday, your standing date with your friends was rapidly approaching and you were nervous about the guy Jenna said she was bringing for you. She said his name is Tyler and he is a personal trainer/boxer at the gym that she and her husband go to. Every time you heard the name “Tyler,” two words popped into your head…Fight Club.
“…And could you try not to mention Fight Club when you meet him? I knew exactly what you were thinking when I told you his name was Tyler.” Said Jenna.
You shrugged and said, “Ok, but you know that happens when I get nervous. I just start quoting movies or blurt out song lyrics. I can’t help it. It’s who I am.” You said with a slight chuckle and batting your eyelashes.
It almost sounded like Jenna didn’t want you to be yourself but she wanted you to be someone else when talking to Tyler but you would try to keep your movie quotes to a minimum, although you couldn’t make any guarantees.
He was nice enough, good looking, and seemed like he enjoyed his job. But he was a little full of himself, dull and didn’t seem like the brightest crayon in the box, nothing like the real object of your affection, Suit & Tie. Everyone in the room was drawn to him.
Without saying a word, he commanded your attention and always seemed in charge of everything. That kind of power over people turned you on, it sent a restless shiver down your spine, and a sudden warmth brushed across your cheeks.
Your blind date, however, droned on and on about the gym, his clients, some of them famous people, which didn’t impress you in the slightest. Your mind wandered, thinking about if Suit & Tie’s taste in bourbon was impeccable like his taste in suits.
Your desire to taste the bourbon on his lips kept getting stronger with every sip he took. The words coming out of Tyler’s mouth were not registering and it sounded like he was speaking underwater. That’s how little you were paying attention to what he was saying.
There was something about Tyler that wasn’t sitting right with you, though. He put out kind of a weird vibe but you couldn’t put your finger on exactly what it could be. Your intuition has never betrayed you before and you didn’t think it would start now.
Setting your empty glass onto the bar, you told Tyler you needed to use the ladies’ room and said you would order another beer when you got back. Emerging from the bathroom, you were startled to see who was standing in front of you. Mr. Fancy Pants. Your stomach lurched upward toward your throat before settling back down and he wasted no time starting the conversation.
“You have a date tonight, I see.” He said softly with a warm smile.
He noticed that he scared you.
“I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you.” He apologized and extended his hand for you to shake. “Billy Russo…nice to meet you.”
Shaking his hand, you replied, “OH! I’m y/n, it’s really nice to meet you Billy. And yeah it’s—it’s a blind date.”
Billy moved in closer, caging you in against the wall down the long and narrow hallway. The scent of his spicy cologne floated past your nose and he placed his hand against the wall just above your head. He was even more handsome up close.
“Do you like him?” He asked in a serious tone as the line of his mouth tightened a fraction more.
Not really knowing how to respond, you stumbled over your words at first but managed to pull yourself together long enough to answer him.
“Oh…well…I dunno,” You had started to say. “Actually…I feel like there’s just something off about Tyler but I don’t know what it is.” You whispered.
Billy’s endless brown eyes stared into yours. He looked…angry but you weren’t frightened.
“You felt that, huh?” He replied.
Nervously, you nodded.
“Yeah, I felt that too and confirmed it when I saw him slip something into the fresh beer that’s waiting for you on the bar.” He said through clenched teeth.
You covered your mouth in disbelief.
“WHAT?! I purposely didn’t order another beer yet so I could watch it being poured.” You asked in a scared tone.
“Look, I know you don’t know me but I don’t want anything to happen to you because, well…I” Billy trailed off. “Do you trust me?”
Strangely enough, you did. You trusted him like you’ve known him for years.
“Y-yes, I do…Billy.” You answered.
The corners of his mouth turned up into a sly smile.
“Good, because I’ve kinda developed a little crush on you in the four weeks I’ve been comin’ in here. I keep suggesting this place to my team, hopin’ I’d get to see you.” He whispered in your ear, his hand still pressed against the wall, and his slight New York accent peeking through.
His words went straight to your core and instantly goosebumps peppered across your skin as the scent of bourbon escaped his lips when he spoke.
“Really?” You asked, shyly.
Biting down on his lower lip, he nodded.
“Well…I may have a little crush on you too.” You said with a slight smile.
Your hands trembled as you reached for his tie. Sliding it through your fingers, you looked up at him through your long dark lashes, desperately wanting him to kiss you and not caring that you just officially met him a few minutes ago.
Billy Russo was the one person in the entire bar that you felt like you could trust wholeheartedly and that included the trust you had in your co-workers and friends. It was hard to explain but everything about him just felt right.
Billy had inched close enough for the two of you to share the same air, causing you to swallow hard before he spoke again.
“I have wanted to kiss you every time I’ve seen you smile.” He said slowly as he grazed your cheek with his knuckles and tucked a stray hair behind your ear, away from your face.
Billy’s lips ghosted over yours as you asked with a smile, “Then why haven’t you yet?”
Flashing that million-dollar smile, he gently cupped your cheeks and drew your face closer to his before his lips were pressed firmly against yours. They tasted like vanilla with a mixture of sweetness and bite as he continued to kiss you a little harder now. Your stomach dropped when his body pressed up against you and your hands migrated to his raven colored hair.
His kisses were even better than you imagined they would be.
Breathlessly, his name fled from your lips as he kissed up and down the side of your neck. You completely lost yourself in the moment before snapping back to reality and remembered about Tyler, your friends, and the fact that no one has been down this hallway since you came out of the ladies’ room.
“Billy…no one’s come down here looking for either one of us.” You said.
He pulled back and said with a devilish grin, “Oh I got a guy at the end of the hallway preventing anyone from coming down here. I didn’t want any interruptions before I could tell you what that asshole did to your drink.”
“Shit…I keep forgetting about that.” You said, pressing your palm to your forehead.
Billy smirked again. “I’ll take that as a compliment, pretty eyes. Have dinner with me.” He commanded.
“Are you requesting or demanding?” You asked with a warm smile.
He leaned in to kiss you again.
“Please?” Asked Billy.
Without any hesitation, you replied, “Well since you asked nicely…yes, I’d love to Mr. Fancy Pants.”
Billy started to laugh.
“Mr. Fancy Pants, huh.” Said Billy.
You shrugged.
“Well, I didn’t know your name so that’s just how I referred to you in my head.” You said with a slight chuckle. “Suit & Tie was another one I used.”
He laughed at that one too.
“Well, I like both of them.” He said.
Just as he finished his sentence, a voice boomed from down the hall.
“Hey Bill!”
Billy yelled back.
“Yeah, what is it Frankie?!”
“You done warnin’ Miss Pretty Eyes about that fuckin’ scumbag yet?! Says he needs to use the bathroom.” He said, his voice dripping with disdain.
You narrowed your eyes slightly as the corners of your mouth curled into a smile.
“Pretty Eyes? You’ve told other people about the nickname, I see.” You said to Billy.
Billy winked at you and replied to his friend.
“Go ahead, Frankie. Let him down here and then you can watch me work!” Yelled Billy, with a devilish grin.
He was breathless with anger. Clenching his teeth, you watched as Billy’s hand balled into a fist until his knuckles shown white. The same knuckles that were gently brushing your cheek a few moments ago were getting ready to connect with Tyler’s face.
“You’re gonna hurt him, aren’t you.” You said nervously; your hands shaking slightly.
Billy kissed you on the forehead and replied, “Tyler’s walkin’ in to his own personal Fight Club. I’m gonna make sure he’ll think twice before doing that to someone else, y/n.”
The reference to Fight Club made you laugh. Movie references randomly popped into your head at any given time. It appeared that they randomly popped into Billy’s head also. This guy just might be your person.
“Ah, you forgot the first rule of Fight Club, Mr. Russo!” You chuckled a little. “So, do you beat people up professionally orrrrr?” You asked sarcastically.
He gave you another wicked smile and said, “We can talk about that at dinner and then you can remind me what the rules of Fight Club are.”
Immediately after he started walking down the hall, Tyler began running his mouth, telling Billy to get away from me, and “hope he’s ready to have his ass kicked.” When he got close, Tyler took a couple swings at him but missed and Billy proceeded to show him what happens to guys who mess with other people’s drinks.
Shoving Tyler out of the back door, Billy bloodied him enough to where you knew he’d never do that to anyone ever again and had the bartender call the police. When they dumped the beer out, there was some white residue along the bottom of the glass.
“Hey, he took swings at me first. I was just defending myself.” Said Billy, after being asked why Tyler’s face looked like a mangled piece of meat.
Bar patrons and Frank had watched Tyler swing first so they corroborated Billy’s story that he was “defending himself” and Jenna apologized for trying to set you up with such a creep. It wasn’t her fault; how could she have known? But she still felt pretty bad about the whole thing.
“I promise, I’ll never try and set you up again. I’m not very good at it, apparently.” She said, her voice heavy with sarcasm.
“Well maybe if this works out, you won’t have to set me up again.” You said.
Watching Billy talk to the police, you felt a sense of relief, and it scared you to think of what would have happened if he wasn’t there. If he wasn’t watching at that exact moment, something terrible could have happened to you.
Billy had finished talking with the cops when you rushed over to him, crashed into his chest and wrapped your arms tightly around his torso. The shock of it all had worn off and you were left thinking about all of the bad things that could have happened.
He was surprised but returned your embrace as tears streaked down your face.
“Hey, hey it’s ok, y/n. It’s ok. You’re safe.” He whispered against the top of your head.
“Thank you, Billy.” You said with a hitch in your voice, trying not to get your tears on his shirt.
You just kept thanking him over and over again. You had to make sure he knew just how grateful you were to him for today.
“I’ll never let anything bad happen to you…pretty eyes. You can trust me.” Said Billy with a slight smile.
His voice was calm and smooth like warm honey. He soothed you and reassured you that you were alright. Billy’s long arms wrapped around you, his body was a warm cradle for yours, and you fit perfectly against him.
“I know I can, Billy. I don’t know how I know…but I do.” You said as the corners of your mouth curled into a shy smile.
Brushing his beard with your thumbs, you leaned in to kiss him again. Instinctively, you knew there was something off about Tyler but at the same time, your gut told you there was something about Billy Russo that fit just right.
You would just have to remember to really listen to that inner voice from now on when it tells you something important, whether it’s bad or very…very…good.
