I’m going to talk about something potentially suicide-related, so watch out.

Music can’t save you.

I keep seeing that all over the place—seriously, all over the place, not just from actual musicians— and I feel like someone needed to say it.

All you’re really claiming when you say “music saved me” is:

Music has a powerful effect.

During a time in my life where I felt like giving up, that powerful effect changed what I was feeling so that I did not give up.

Okay those two things are true, but let’s take a step back for a second.

If you’re lost in the woods and considering giving up, sitting down, and letting yourself starve or be eaten by wild animals, a bird could have the same impact. You might look up, see a colorful shape flying through the trees, and decide to follow it. Now you’re moving. Now you’re doing something, instead of giving up—regardless of whether or not you can keep up with the bird, regardless of where it’s leading you. So sure, that is a good thing. But it’s only temporary, a bandaid solution to your problem. Even if it leads you to water, or shelter, you’re not “saved.”

You’re not “saved” until you’re no longer lost, no longer in the woods. You have to get back to your home. You have to get back to a place where you know where you are in the world, and how to get what you need, and everything makes sense again.

It is the same way with music. Or any art.

Art can remind you of what’s good, and beautiful, and yes, true. But it is not the art that saves you. It is the truth that does the saving. The art just had a hand in reminding you of it. So it would be way more accurate to say “music helped me.” But you still have to deal with whatever it was that got you to the place where you felt like giving up. And part of that is making sure that you know what the song is saying has truth in it, and that truth actually applies to the problem you’re having, because you can lean on truth, and it’s what made the music worth anything in the first place. Otherwise, the music is just a distraction, and distractions end.

In that sense, it’s more like a tiger is stalking you through those woods. You can get away from it briefly, especially if something beautiful or good or true distracts you from the thought of laying down and letting it take you. But eventually you have to kill the tiger, or get out of the woods where it lives.

Truthfully—truthfully—a song can get you out of, or into, a state of mind and emotions. But those emotions have a source. And if you don’t get rid of the source, or neutralize the source, your songs are only going to be bloody bandages on a wound. Worse, the songs might make you start to love the sight of bloody bandages, when what you really need is disinfectant and actual healing.

I do know this from experience. I’m just saying, think about it.

You know what, it's interesting that of all the shows I've watched... I think that this and Bed Friend are the two Thai shows that have shown the most respect and understanding towards mental health issues. Oh, also Moonlight Chicken but without as much focus on it.

There's something about having this huge homophobic and horrible moment and to see how that made their relationships so unhealthy and desperate because Blue had no support or love at home and knowing that no matter what Him did, he could never be enough to stop this because what was going on with Blue was so much bigger and that their issues were just a microcausm of everything hurting Blue.

And this, the idea that hurting Blue and forcing him to break up is not just the right thing to do but the right thing for Blue and the idea that Blue is somehow 'forcing' his parents to do this... and the cultural pressure to make your parents proud and be obedient and a good son and the filial responsibility that he has to feel being their only son and only child and having to chose between his romantic love for Him and his filial love for his parents... and then Him having all his personal issues and having to temporarily withdraw from their relationship was more than he could bear.

That's the real pain of this, the real agony, the way that Blue was broken by the very people who should have loved and supported him... and then to see Him loved and supported and to know and see the difference a supportive and loving parent makes in the life and the continued life of a person.

It's so important to show and to let it be known that it matters that you love your child and support them even when they're different than you expected, especially when they're different than you expected.

Because this is what happens.

This is what you do to your child when you can't love him, when you demand he only be the image you imagined he would be.

You lose him.

You lose him.

I just had such a terrible idea that I had to share.

So we know Branch was outcast and ignored for the most part. A child raising himself. What sort of community allows that to happen?

Only, the community is traumatised. Seriously traumatised. They have literally just escaped a death camp where generations of Trolls have been eaten.

So why aren't more of them Grey? Why is it so unusual?

My thoughts? Having been depressed myself, it's hard to find value in your own life, it seems so much easier to just let go, to die, and not have to deal with everything

So what if traditionally, Grey Trolls were expected to volunteer to be eaten? They don't want to live, once a year a mass of trolls are going to die, why not put forward the ones that want to die? Who have given up?

I could see a lot of pressure on these Grey trolls to sacrifice themselves to save those who want to live.

Can you imagine the desperate parents, siblings, children, you can't go Grey, we want you to live, we need you to live, all that pressure generations down and down on not going Grey.

Then Branch.

And King Preppy has never seen a Grey Troll before, it's so rare by his reign, but he knows the tradition, he knows everyone is expecting Branch to give himself up.

Except this Grey Troll is a child.

Even younger than Viva, his 1st(?) daughter.

And King Preppy can't. He can't do that to a child.

Except, that's exactly what's going to happen next Trollstice.

Not only Branch, but his people, his children, his friends, every single Troll is at risk of being eaten.

Most dissapointing aspect of latest HB episode was the fact that Mammon who was supposed to be rock star, who at beggining was standing on the stage with his guitar, making rock signs, never ever sang a song... Everyone was expecting we'll see pre accident time of Blitzo and Fizz and we'll see that mammon concert, I mean wouldn't it be great opportunity to introduce him as a character? Remember how Ozzie was introduced? Now imagine if instead of house of asmodeus he would just be shown at beggining and he would just stand there and talk about things he instead sang about. It would work so much better if mammon's whole clown competition advertisement, evil plan thing would be introduced during memorable song, instead we are at this "magnificent" concert, we see mammon for the first time, he talks, he talks, and in the end he doesn't even play anything, well to be honest it can be some kind of joke that guy is such a rip off he doesn't even do anything on his expensive shows but come on he is supposed to be that most evil antagonist so far, the mammon himself, etc. We got 4 songs it's a crime none of them were mammon's, for fuck sake even belzeebub lame sin got song, why not mammon? At least make it believable that this guy was fizz's idol since 5, rock star would be perfect way of doing it, but they kinda wasted it.

Honestly, actually seeing Mammon slosh his way through a travesty of a rock song ala Russell Crowe in South Park would have been hilarious.
