Might be a few minutes late but wanted to get some art in to finish off my celebration of Superman’s 80th birthday and the release of #ActionComics1000! Since Krypton’s Last Son is 80 today it felt fitting to draw him a little older. So I used the Batman Beyond Superman as reference, and put him in a variant ‘Kingdom Come’ suit which takes some cues from the ‘Man of Steel’, New 52, and ‘Godfall’ costumes with some remnant of the original suit in there as well. So happy birthday Supes! Post-Crisis, Superman was the only Kryptonian.  Supergirl was a shapeshifting creature from another dimension, Krypto was the name of somebody’s normal pet dog, and Kandor was created by the wizard Tolos, as a collection of aliens from different worlds. They weren’t really shrunken, but existed in a parallel dimension.

There were a couple of important storylines featuring this Kandor, which was a melting pot of alien cultures, ruled over by a council led by the blue-skinned, horned alien Cerimul. Superman had to quell a civil war and defeat Tolos a final time. Then Cyborg Superman came in and tried to take over while framing Superman for the murder of Cerimul. Cerimul’s son Scorn was running around Metropolis for a while, but was eventually forgotten.

Then, in the 2000s, there was the Superman: Godfall arc, where Superman returned to Kandor and found it drastically different. Some kind of temporal anomaly had taken place, and Kandor went through “over a century” while only a few years pass on Earth. Superman is worshipped as a god. Not only that, but in roughly a century, aliens have gone from respected leaders and royalty to downtrodden masses consigned to ghettos. Kryptonians are now privileged citizens.

Now, there are two factors here. One is the long period of time – somewhere in the range of 100-200 for a radical religious faction to take over and oust the previously powerful aliens. It’s been established that Kandor was pretty tumultuous and politically unstable.

The other is that after Superman: Birthright, Silver Age elements had started to come back in. So: Kandor is from Krypton again, originally stolen by Brainiac not Tolos, and Superman has no powers while he’s there because of the red sun environment. Also, the non-Kryptonian Kandorians get exposure sickness when they try to leave.

Godfall left Kandor on a hopeful note, but then came the storyline in Supergirl: Candor, where things have gotten so much worse. Kandor is under the control of Saturn Queen and a brainwashed Ultraman. (So did Saturn Queen start the Superman religion, or just take advantage of it? How long has she been there?) Some of the alien rebels Superman met, like Basqat/Basqatin, make another appearance.

Some time later, during a battle at the Fortress of Solitude, the bottle was smashed. This destroyed the connection to Kandor’s dimension. This cleared the way for the “real” Kryptonian Kandor to be rescued from Brainiac’s possession, setting up the New Krypton arc. Tolos’s Kandor got a vague mention when Luthor said other cities had been named after the original, but otherwise, that was it.

It seems like this Kandor, like so many things from the 90’s, is doomed to be forgotten. At least for now.

You can use this glitch once per day but if you do then you will not have tomorrows rewards. Essentially this glitch just allows you to play 1 day ahead. This glitch does not work for Basic Chests, Arena Mode, Arena Store, Operations Mode, Hero Shards Store, & Challenge Mode.
