Paper pulp molded into the places I have I made love amongst the blinking red eyes across the river, said goodbye to faces I wished to never see again , walked across a bridge , unaware it would be the last time
Our experiences physically embed into our soul. The armour is a physical manifestation of the places I have felt effected me the most. I wanted to communicate the duality of what shapes us through nature or nurture, how much like armour, our experiences both protect us yet also weight down on us

Odd ends. Paper collage with mixed media, 2022. 16 by 20 inches.
The desire to save and reclaim every scrap gets me into trouble sometimes, but I do it for a reason: there is a particular joy in rescuing and preserving tiny, serendipitous, intriguing fragments that would otherwise be discarded.
These tiny bits of paper are just the edge remnants from larger sheets of sticker paper that I paint and cut up for quick collages, collected over several months. Individually, they remind me of mini paintings or landscapes- rolling hills receding into the distance, foggy beaches, unintended compositions that sometimes spark larger ideas. Massed together, they form my favorite kind of image- the kind where the closer and longer you look, the more there is to see, like a forest floor that shades into a uniform blur until you get up close and notice how many tiny details make up every inch of ground.
(I haven't shared any of my own work here in a very long time; I'm trying to get into the habit again.)

-Biology!!! I’m a Biological Sciences major in my first year and am very passionate abt it :)
-Sustainability (to narrow it down, sustainable architecture, arts, and crafts!)
-Foraging! I need to research more about what’s found and native to my uni campus, but I can rant about what I found in my tiny ass backyard back home :) and what I’ve cooked and ate from there!
-Bookbinding, especially on how to bookbind for Cheap, and what you do/dont need and what’s helpful to have. Love it. Currently binding a fic two of my close friends collabed on!!!

Took a trip to Pittenweem Arts Festival today and finally bought one of the Fish Shoal Tapestries!
They are made by Claudia Maldonado from recycled inner tubes and painted and hand-stitched so they shimmer and move in the light.

All My Graitude, 2022
Altar: ink, on paper. found lavender, mugwort, rose, yarrow, rock, buckeye, feather, bottle, candles. gifted jewelry. Mom and Papi's coffee table, Grandma's crocheted blankets, Abuela's rug.
Wall (left to right): chalk pastel and ink on paper. gifted thread and yarn. letter from Ale. oil on wooden board. acrylic, crochet, and embroidery on gifted fabric. oil on palette paper. letter from Maria Elena. gifted frames.
Inspired by the ongoing relationship I hold with the land, with family, and with individual and shared memory, I use fiber, book arts, painting, and writing to better understand how a work lives on through story and memory.
Influenced by family traditions, stories, and the concrete relationships that I hold with others, I try to work with gifted, scrap, and natural material as much as possible. In this way, I am constantly anticipating the lifetime of my work: the disintegration of fiber, the fading of pigment, or the loss in language. Just as materials are gifted to me, I also imagine how I can consciously and intentionally gift these materials in return. This method of making allows me to better understand the source of my work--by using found materials or those given to me, a finished piece will include contributions from many individuals in this growing community. This practice is understood as the creation of my own gift economy--a network of relationships built on mutual responsibility and understanding, ones built on sustainability rather than transaction.
My finished work focuses on texture, inviting viewers to touch and interact with the work as deeply as I have within the creation process. Inviting others more fully into the relationship I hold with my work allows viewers to evaluate their own relationship with their own communities. Each project pushes me into greater awareness of the impact that art holds in all aspects of life. As I learn new techniques and work with new people, I am finding new ways to tell stories about land, about people, and about knowing and working in true community.
