Loki thoughts.

Before the Loki show, Loki only ever loved Thor, Frigga, and Odin. He struggled with his love for them, he sacrificed himself for his love for them, and he was made better by his love for them. That's Endgame Loki's arc.

But the Loki from the TV Show Loki is a different variant. He still loves his family, but what I find so beautiful, is that he also has expanded past that. I keep going back to that shot of Sylvie and Mobius and I had a cursed thought...

Sylvie is Loki's mirror. Her arc is incomplete. She's alone. She's selfish. She's callous. She's got the capacity for the same goodness Loki has, but she's not there yet. And Loki loves her anyway. Despite the fact that she's not perfect. Despite the fact that she's not all good. Despite the fact that she's selfish, she's callous, she's lonely. If Sylvie is a mirror of Loki, then loving her is, in a way, a form of self-love.

Mobius is Loki's first real friend. He's not Loki's family or a Loki variant. He's not even from Asgard. He's just a guy who knows everything there is to know about Loki and chooses to love him. Unconditionally. Not because of his powers. Not because of his family. Not because of his heroism. Just...because. And Loki chooses to love him back.

It doesn't matter who he may or may not be romantically interested in. Sylvie and Mobius represent similar, but different, things in the narrative. And Loki chooses to sacrifice himself, this time, for a different kind of love. This Loki finally has discovered the beauty of self-love and the beauty of friendship. And idk. Might be cliche. But I think that's pretty powerful, too.

thinking about loki’s 400 year long stare at mobius when he says, “it’s about who”

and then how he looks at sylvie and says, “i can rewrite the story” and how she has her own story - without romance. how she told him to “write his own story” and how he’s now canonically god of stories/storytelling.

thinking about how if they make lokius canon, marvel’s first major canonically queer character will have “rewritten” the cishet centred narrative that a major audience is expecting and just how powerful that would be.

because, as much as i like the bisexual “confirmation” scene - it was very easy to look over if you’re a homophobic viewer or don’t know what bisexuality is. because they never had either of them say the words, “i am bisexual”. that and how they “dealt” with loki’s genderfluidity.

but a major gay couple?? with the healthiest and most intimate relationship i’ve EVER seen marvel write?? that would not be so easy to ignore. especially when you go back and see that it’s been there the whole time. if you knew what to look for. which, is honestly probably the queer vision in a nutshell. because cishets will be blind to anything if they see a man + woman option. they need “undeniable” proof. marvel knows that & it’s why they’ve gotten away with this. why they’re still “safe” for most of their anti-queer audience.

but just imagine, if loki fixes all this, get his friends back, and shows mobius know how he really feels and basically says “this has been the love story the whole time” THAT will be his legacy. in all the glorious i’m a god and i’ve been bad and i’m good and i’m queer and i have inherent worth just like everybody else and i don’t give a fuck loki fashion. and i hope to gods we get to see that.

that’s the story i want to see.

because if they turn around and give us sylki — (and in doing so say here’s a perfect example of a healthy gay relationship but instead we’re gonna give you a toxic genderbent selfcest romance) regardless of the fact we know they are both queer — that is not what a homophobic audience is going to see. they’re going to be satisfied that they didn’t see two men kissing on their screen and call it another win. and marvel would be continuing to encourage the idea that us queer fans are delusional - despite the clearly intentional writing.

not to mention the exhausting, intrinsically homophobic harassment & clowning lokius shippers have endured would actually not be for nothing if lokius were canon and marvel were to decide btw queer people are real and so are their stories and so is their love.

if the show about the genderfluid bisexual god of stories can’t accomplish that after all this character development then. idk.

Look, I've been a Wowki shipper since trailer number fucking 1 came out all those years ago, but all this talk about "Lokius nation, we won", "Sylki kiss was retconned", "They are still pining for each other", etc. doesn't matter shit because no one won. Sylkis didn't win and Lokius shippers didn't win either, because Loki ends up alone, miserable, and fulfilling his glorious purpose which is not glorious at all.

No one won. Stop treating the finale as if it confirmed Lokius' canonical status or threw away what happened between Loki and Sylvie last season. This is the MCU we are talking about- Lokius was never meant to be, even if the hints were there. And Sylki didn't turn out to be either, because in the end, it was about Loki's purpose in the grand scheme of the saga. Not his romantic life.

On that note, I will be off to write my 50k sad Wowki fic.

Just read a thread on twitter about how S2 is about “fixing what’s broken”, and one of the things Loki is going to “fix” is Sylki by going back to the citadel. Also, they said how the “slow walk” bit from the trailer will be him showing her how he’s controlling time now, and watching the two gifs of that bit, I can’t deny that the intent there looks genuinely “romantic” from her, and possibly from him too.

And now I feel sick. Because this totally sounds like something the writers would pull to get Sylki back out there, even though it MAKES NO SENSE AT ALL. 😭😭😭

everyone has these thoughtful reasons and careful media analysis to make their point about why sylki will/won't "be endgame" and thus it's okay (or not) if they argue a bit first and i am slightly ashamed to admit that my entire thought process thus far has just been "well there's six episodes to fill, of course they'll drag the romance plot out as long as possible." :'(
