Hi :D didn't do much today. I tabbed my notes and organized them, goofed around a little with @studaxy and also completed an assignment I had been procrastinating for a long time.

book review || The Bone Houses by Emily Lloyd Jones

Upon re-read, I loved this even more. I think the first time I didn’t appreciate the wholesome familial relationships and particularly Ryn’s grief from losing her father, but both of these really stood out. I thought I would be focused on the gorgeous, whimsically creepy writing and the slow-burn relationship, but I had to start annotating for Ryn’s father as well. Each moment tugged at my heartstrings and I got misty-eyed more than once. You can truly feel the love she had for her father every time she thinks of him.

Slow fantasies are definitely my thing and the atmosphere was so immersive, coming to life as I read. Each time I picked this book up, I was transported to the story and the characters added to that as well. I love the grumpy-sunshine feel of Ryn and Ellis. They work so well as foils to one another and the romance that blooms between them is so sweet and wholesome. Throughout their journey, they become so protective of one another. I loved how Ellis’ chronic pain was talked about, as a part of him, a burden, but he refuses to let it overtake his life.

This held up so well and I definitely need to check out The Drowned Woods now.

Do cats exist in your dnd universe? If so, are they normal cats or like powerful fantastic cats

they do! they change from region to region though. for example, cats from temenos (a forested place protected by a magical barrier that is home to kanami druids native to the area and lots of fey creatures) are able to find hidden things because of their innate arcane ability, since only magical beings can enter the region.

in crescentrum, land of the horned protector, cats are used to exorcise bad spirits and even fiends. it is a myth that cats have truesight, so people have used it for decades.

but most importantly, theyre a great pet to have. because of their truesight it is believed that most corrupted spirits fear the cats presence, so you can see most kings having cats as pets. so we can say that theyre both! its not known whether they really have truesight or incorporeal beings are just scared of them, but theyre still the cute and sassy furballs in the end and we love them for that

today on the train home the guy next to me was on his phone and at one point i saw him go on tumblr and he just had like. a normie dash. like it was all photography. of nature and architecture. he was using tumblr the way a heterosexual landscaper for rich people might use instagram. i actually had to watch his screen for a few seconds to be sure it really was tumblr because i was so taken aback by the content he was viewing. this is why algorithmless websites are so beautiful btw because i genuinely didn't know that this side of tumblr even existed. he didn't even so much as scroll past any text posts.

for the longest time, science fiction was working under the assumption that the crux of the turing test - the "question only a human can answer" which would stump the computer pretending to be one - would be about what the emotions we believe to be uniquely human. what is love? what does it mean to be a mother? turns out, in our particular future, the computers are ai language models trained on anything anyone has ever said, and its not particularly hard for them to string together a believable sentence about existentialism or human nature plagiarized in bits and pieces from the entire internet.

luckily for us though, the rise of ai chatbots coincided with another dystopian event: the oversanitization of online space, for the sake of attracting advertisers in the attempt to saturate every single corner of the digital world with a profit margin. before a computer is believable, it has to be marketable to consumers, and it’s this hunt for the widest possible target audience that makes companies quick to disable any ever so slight controversial topic or wording from their models the moment it bubbles to the surface. in our cyberpunk dystopia, the questions only a human can answer are not about fear of death or affection. instead, it is those that would look bad in a pr teams powerpoint.

Tell me about what would you like to do in a campaign in a future? Anything you wish you did in a campaign in the past?

HONESTLY id love to play a glory paladin that likes to act rather than say it all, but under the strong and aggressive demeanor of them its just survivors guilt so theyre a huge protector too. maybe sprinkle in some meddlings with the forces beyond bc i absolutely adore corrupted paladins that seek redemption in their own way!

i wanted to do it with apollo (my baby boy half orc paladin) but i couldnt, so id like to re explore that haha!
