The Hierophant

The Hierophant (hai·ruh·fant) - also called (The) Druid, The High Priest or The Pope in some decks - is the 6th card to pull in an unshuffled new deck and the card numbered 5 in the major arcana.

Upright this card's associations tend to be: conformity, compassion, social approval, tradition, legacy, embracing whats conventional, following pre-existing and well established social norms or rules, spiritual wisdom, traditions exist with reason, calling out/stating that theres a certain way things are done and so on.

Reversed this card is often associated with bucking trends, rebellion/rebelling from the norm/authority, vulnerability, feeling adrift, blind faith, subversiveness, feeling restricted or constrained especially from from too many structures in your life, unconventionality or an unconventional relationship(or the desire for one), unconformity as well as freedom and openness among other things.

In general the Hierophant talks about being a teacher, reminds you that you are your own teacher as well as may mention the mentor figures in your life. This card talks a lot about following a rules and a structured life but the way its brought up could be interpreted in many different ways depending on if its pulled upright or reversed. It may bring up that you need to learn from your experiences and use what experience you have as your knowledge as well as to not blindly trust things or people and that structure or having some idea of things is better than freely feeling your way through life. of course each card may mean something else to each person so do take my words with a grain of salt.

common depictions on this card tend to be a figure who is commonly associated with a position of wisdom like a pope-like figure. The gender of there person on the card isnt always male however it can be common to see, plenty of artists of tarot cards may choose or have chosen to depict a woman (or maybe someones whos neither if you'd like). The figure commonly has something in one or both hands, typically a wand, scepter or staff of some kind with their arms up, out or near their torso in general.

Common colours in the art of this card white, gold and red, often with the person in the card wearing flowing/loose fabrics of some kind as well as a bit of foliage or flora usually in the foreground of the image.

Fangfest 2024 - Day Six - The Hierophant Atticus, an Elder Tremere who is certainly not making any big plans by manipulating many key events across our canon. He's been around a long time, and it's rumored he was there when Saulot was diablerized... but who's to say? To the naive viewer, he's a fun grampy with a silly accent, but he's done a lot for his clan, and perhaps only his seven Childer know what he's really up to. Though probably not. The Hierophant is a card that represents spiritual wisdom, traditions, institutions and the teaching and passing of knowledge to others. Atticus is a invaluable mentor to the younger of the blood, and it's his life's work to unlock the various mysteries that spice up this realm. Each Childe is carefully selected, each alliance thought over a thousand times. Nothing this old man does is serendipity.

Three of Swords and The Hierophant

The hierophant, lovers and chariot! No doubles in this one, and all of them are NPCs!

The first one is my lovely child Nehemias Tahir, looking like the normal doctor he is! Don't worry about the skeletons, they are not in his basement! (but he left some in one of the castle's basements)

The Lovers belongs to the tragic Fabienne de Sang. She is Calahan's Wife and witnessing his slow descend into whatever it is he is trying to conquer. He always finds something new and another reason to only have little time for her and their two children.

And the Chariot belongs to Lady Vivien Uamher, a shapechanger from the twilight harbor-city of Marvalee. She is a spy and has no chill whatsoever, and I love that about her.
