Hold me by the heart
Tumblr media
Shuri x Black!Fem!Reader
Word count: 1.4k
Summary: When Shuri is at her absolute worst, you were always right there to hold her and comfort her.
Translation: Ungubani -> Who are you?
Note: T’Challa is very heavily involved here and the overall all fic is pretty sad. This also heavy with grief and has a major Wakanda Forever spoiler, just in case you haven’t watched the movie yet.
Y/F/N means your father’s name, I couldn’t really think of a name to put for that so
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
2016
Being an war-dog stationed in Austria was not how you expected to be spending your 18th and 19th years of life. After a year in the Austria, you missed everything about home. The air, the water, the people, the food, your culture, your family, your girlfriend. You were sat on the couch in the apartment that had been given to you, clicking through tv stations.
You got to the news to see that the Vienna International Center had been bombed. You sat up as you listened to the headline. When the broadcaster said that King T’Chaka of Wakanda had been assassinated, your heart stopped.
Images of the building on fire, smoke clouds darkening the sky, flashed on your screen. But they didn’t register. The only thing flooding your mind was that your King was dead. Your countries ruler was gone.
And then your mind drifted to your girlfriend, the princess of Wakanda, Shuri. You hadn’t noticed your tears until heavy knocks came to your door. You wiped the tears and looked through the peephole.
There you saw two members of the Dora Milaje at his side. You immediately opened the door and they glided in.
“Ungubani” “Y/N, daughter of Y/F/N” You pulled your bottom lip down to show your war-dog tattoo to the Dora.
T’Challa walked into the apartment. You didn’t look at him for very long, as you lightly bowed your head, but the devastation was clear as day.
“My Prince.” You said as you bowed lightly. You knew very well you weren’t required to do this, it was more so to please the Dora than because of a distant relationship.
T’Challa just pulled you into a hug which you returned instantly. You stayed there for some time, trying to comfort the man you had known as an older brother for years.
He pulled away but left a hand on your shoulder “It’s time for you to come home.” You nodded and you knew the implications behind it.
You knew T’Challa wouldn’t be returning home for long, he was telling you so you could be there for Shuri.
You packed away your things as fast as possible and hurried to the Royal Talon Fighter. The flight was spent mostly in silence, you leaning on T’Challa’s shoulder as a form of comfort. He greatly appreciated it.
When you landed, you were overcome with nerves. You hadn’t been home in a year and the first time you return, is because the man you viewed as a second father was now with the ancestors.
You stood at the top of the stairs and almost went into a panic. T’Challa’s hand squeezed your shoulder in encouragement, you took a deep breath and descended down the stairs.
You saw your girlfriend and her mother standing side by side in front of the palace. Her red, teary eyes lit up when she saw you. She waited until you were some feet away from the plane before she ran into your arms.
You welcomed her and held the back of her head. The world didn’t matter as you held her, all you wanted was to ease her pain. “Thank you for coming.” She said through her tears.
“Shh, no need to thank me.” You pulled away to hold her face, her hands held your wrists. “I will always be here for you.”
2018
N’Jadaka had killed T’Challa. Right in front of your eyes. Your body and mind had gone numb. You sat in one of Wakanda’s lush forests, and for the first time the scenery of Wakanda didn’t have any effect on your sour mood.
Your heartbroken girlfriend sat between your legs, holding your knee as she cried. You had one hand massaging her scalp. Her mother sat in front of you, holding her hand and yours.
“First Baba, and now my brother. Mama we didn't even get to bury him.” You shushed her. Ramonda wiped her tears.
You wished you could be of more comfort for her, but your own pain was rendering you silent.
In a way though, the severity of your own emotion helped Shuri understand that she was not alone in this. She wouldn’t be missing her brother alone. She had her mother, and she had you.
2024
Shuri had been working around her lab trying to find a cure for her brother. You had gone some time before to say your goodbyes to T’Challa in the event he didn’t make it.
You told him how much he meant to you, as a brother, a friend, and as an overall inspiration. You told him that if he didn’t have any fight left in him, that it was ok. That you would take care of his beloved mother and baby sister, that you would protect them with your life. You told him that you would dedicate your life to protecting his honor and his memory, and to making him proud.
With a final squeeze of his hand, you left the room he was in and ran back to the lab. Over the years, Shuri had taught you a lot about technology and you were ready to offer your help in any way you could.
When you got to the lab, people were rushing out. You walked in confused. You saw Shuri standing alone at one of her tables. You walked over to her and before you could say anything, you saw Ramonda walk in.
You felt nauseous because you knew what this meant. You tried to hold it back, but a sob ripped through your chest and you turned away.
“Griot, whats my brothers heart rate?” Shuri asked, voice thick with fear.
“Your brother, is with the ancestors.”
Shuri slowly walked backwards, all the emotion hitting at once. She only heard a faint ringing in her ears and her head felt as if it would explode. Before she fell to the floor in complete agony, your arms wrapped around her weak body.
You eased her way to the floor and she held your biceps tight as she loudly cried. Seeing her in this much pain only worsened your own, you threw your head back as to not see the hurt. You bit your lip so hard you tasted hints of blood. Ramonda slowly walked over to her grieving girls.
The funeral
You still did not feel worthy to walk alongside the Royal Family through this. Despite all the assurances by Ramonda that you belonged there, and Shuri saying how badly you were needed, you still felt unworthy.
You swallowed those insecurities and walked with your head high, but face riddled with exhaustion and all the overall grief you were facing.
T’Challa’s coffin was placed on the ground and before it was lifted, Shuri placed her body over it. Ramonda went to pull her back, but you lightly put your arm in front of her. She looked at you with confusion but you knew Shuri needed this moment.
She didn’t get to properly say goodbye to her own brother, this was her own way of doing that now. After some time, you moved your arm and nodded. Ramonda lightly pulled a broken Shuri from her brother’s coffin and back to her feet.
Shuri placed her face in your neck and you placed your hand on the back of her head.
2025
After the passing of King T’Chaka, you never thought you would leave Wakanda again. Now after losing T’Challa and Ramonda, and all the death you saw in your country, you couldn’t bear to be there. You needed to be far, in order to heal.
That is how you ended up with Shuri in Haiti. You had burned your funeral garments together on the beach and began to heal together.
Right now you sat in your room, writing in your journal. Writing out every thought and feeling you had throughout the day. Shuri had gone for a walk, she felt she needed to be alone with her thoughts.
You had no clue how long you had been writing when the door to your room creaked open. You looked up with a smile to see your lover, but your smile fell when you saw the state she was in.
Her thoughts had clearly taken her down a dark path. She stood in the doorway pulling at her sleeve as she cried. You almost jumped from your chair to hold her.
She kept her arms where they were but she just cried even harder when you held her. “I’m here love. I’m here.”
To that she pulled you in even closer. “Make it stop…” she begged to no one in particular. Your heart broke even further.
You wished you could. You wished you could take all her pain away. Wished you could take all for yourself. But you couldn’t.
What you could and would do, is hold her. Hold her through it all just as you had always done.
The Fix (part 6)
Tumblr media
Previously on The Fix….(click here for part 5)
“I think…..I think I l…..”
You turned around to face him with a puzzled expression, gazing into his eyes.
“You think you what?”
T’Challa shook his head and kissed your forehead. “Nothing. Just go on and be with him. That’s what you’ve wanted all along.” He managed to plaster a fake smile on his face. You weren’t really buying it but figured you had to. You said goodbye and walked out of the door. As you walked away from his office, you felt yourself tearing up and didn’t know why. What was the problem? You’ve gotten what you wanted, right?
Then why aren’t you happy about it?
************
You were back with Aaron. That’s what you wanted for so long. He was somewhat being more attentive than he was before. It felt like he was trying to redeem himself for the past shittiness. Your relationship was better now. You should be happier now.
But you weren’t.
You still thought about T’Challa. When Aaron was kissing you, you were lowkey wishing it was T’Challa’s lips. When he was hugging you, you wished it was T’Challa’s arms around you.
You missed him.
You hated to admit it, but you did.
Was it guilt because you were in a committed relationship, thinking about another man? Or was it regret that you took Aaron back?
No. You wanted him. Aaron was your man and has always been your man. This was inevitable, and both you and T’Challa knew it.
Should you tell Aaron? Should you tell Aaron you cheated? Well, you didn’t cheat cheat, but you technically did. You gotta be honest with him. You can’t start this new relationship, especially since he’s improving himself for you. It’s only right.
Yeah, sure, bitch. You’re just hoping when you tell him, he leaves you alone for good so you can have T’Challa, all to yourself and guilt-free.
You winced at your brain. No, that’s not it. He deserves the truth. I would want him to tell me if he messed with another girl during our break.
LOL, so you can have an excuse to end it? So transparent.
Shut the fuck up, brain.
You finally got out of your head and glanced at your phone. It was almost 6, meaning Aaron was on his way over here. To study, of course. One would think after a long separation, you two would be at it like fucking rabbits. Granted, on your end, your needs were being more than fulfilled, but him? You weren’t sure, but then again, he swears he was faithful. It’s a shame you couldn't say the same.
Maybe Aaron wasn’t attracted to you anymore. No, that’s ridiculous. He wouldn’t have come back. You two were kinda starting over, so maybe he wanted to take it slow, which you were grateful for, lowkey.
A sharp knock on your dorm door shook you out of your thoughts. That must be him. You opened the door to see your boyfriend giving you a small smile. You failed to return it as he pulls you in for a quick hug and stepped aside to let him inside. He started to talk a bit about his day, but you weren't listening, and you felt bad that you weren’t listening, but you needed to get this off your chest.
“Aaron…we need to talk. Well, I need to talk, and you need to listen, then decide what you wanna do afterward. I just need to get this off my chest.” You blurted out, interrupting his rambling. He looked confused, taking a seat at your desk. In the look of confusion, worry seeped through. It seemed like he was panicking on the inside, but doing a good job to look calm. He was doing a good job, but you could read people easily.
He’s probably worried that you're breaking up with him.
You wanted to sigh. You weren’t, but after this, you were sure he was gonna want to break up for good.
You sat on your twin xl bed, facing him with a sincere expression. “There’s no easy way to say this, Aaron. But I have to. I had sex with someone else during our break. I’m so sorry, but I have to be honest with you.”
Your boyfriend blinked a few times and let out a deep sigh. “Um, so there was another guy?”
It was your turn to be confused. “Yes, there was, but I promise I ended it when you came back. I feel bad, but you were gone and dodging me, and I know that’s not an excuse but-“
“Y/N…it’s cool.”
You could’ve sworn a record scratch played in your head. He wasn’t mad.
“Huh?” Your eyebrows furrowed with your head tilted. Aaron let out a dry chuckle at your expression.
“Yeah, well, I ain’t really happy that you did that, but I guess I deserved it for abandoning you.”
You felt like you were dreaming. Is this real? Is he being serious or sarcastic? Was he gearing up to break up with you viciously? What was his angle here?
You shot up out of bed like a Jack in the box. “Where is Ashton Kutcher with the cameras?!”
“What?”
You got close to him. “Aaron, I CHEATED on you, and you’re ok with that?!”
He groaned in response, which caused you to raise an eyebrow, skeptical.
“I told you! I ain’t happy about it, but we were on a break, and you were honest. Girl, what do you want? You want me to scream at you? To break up with you?”
You were taken aback by this because what did you want him to do? You weren’t sure, but damn, it felt like he didn’t really care. You told T’Challa you were breaking up y’all’s situation-ship, and he seemed distraught. Your fucking boyfriend, on the other hand, finds out you fucked another man, and he acts as if you told him you lost his pencil or something.
Hell, you were beginning to think you would get more of a reaction if you lost his damn pencil!
However, the crazy thing is, you were somewhat relieved he didn’t blow up on you. It was a mix of emotions, and you were overall annoyed with it.
“So I fucked another man, multiple times, and it was GOOD, I mean really -“
Aaron’s face scrunched up in disgust. “Alright, you’re doing a lot. I feel like you want me to break up with you.”
You got mute, but after a while, managed to squeak out. “Well, are you?”
He finally stood up and took your hands. “No, babe. I meant it when I said I wanted us back. I can’t sit here and act like you weren't gonna meet and like other guys during our break. Like I said before, I ain’t thrilled about it, but it happened. We just gotta push through.”
You raised an eyebrow again. “Did you meet and like other girls? Because you’re surprisingly so understanding about this.”
He let out another chuckle. “I told you I was working on me during our break.”
You allowed yourself to crack a small smile. “I guess you really did.” You leaned in to kiss his lips, and after a few seconds, you both pulled away.
“I really am sorry. I never meant to hurt you. For real.”
“I know you are. Now come on, let’s study.”
Aaron was at your dorm for maybe an hour before he had to go. You barely studied, but it’s ok. You could do it later. It was a little past 7. Still kind of early. You resolved things with Aaron, and you had a nagging feeling that you should resolve things with T’Challa. You haven’t talked to him since that day. It didn’t seem like anything was bad between you guys, but you still felt a pressing urge to see him. You decided to pop up, so he wouldn’t reject you.
You got dressed in a simple, casual outfit and walked to his apartment. You remembered the number and made your way to his door. You hesitated to knock because what if he really didn’t want to see you?
You didn’t get the chance to knock because the door swung open, and there was T’Challa, clad in his black v-neck t-shirt and grey sweatpants. It took everything, and I mean, everything for you not to look down. He was stunned to see you, and you gave a shy smile.
“Hi. I’m sorry for just dropping in on you, but can we talk? Please?”
Unbeknownst to you, he wanted to smile at you, but couldn’t. In all honesty, his heart was happy to see you, but his brain was angry at your audacity to show up at his apartment after breaking his heart. But with those eyes of yours, he just wanted to give you whatever you wanted. The problem was…you wouldn’t let him.
T’Challa finally mustered up some words for you. “Y/N, now is not a good time.”
You felt defeated, but you should’ve expected that answer.
“I get it, but I just wanted to say-“
“Hey, T'challa, where’d you get that soap-“ a girl popped up from where his bathroom was, and her eyes fell on you. You recognized her. Nadia Richardson. She was a girl you had class with a few times, and let’s just say the classes weren’t the only easy things.
Don’t get it twisted. You were very hoe-positive and not a slut shamer, but this slut needed to be shamed. She flirted and ended up sleeping with many men on campus, single, married, in a relationship, you name it. She didn’t care who she was sleeping with. She was an attractive woman and felt like everyone deserved a piece of it.
And it seemed like T’Challa was one of them. Her first professor. She must be fucking ecstatic.
“Oh hey! I recognize you! Y/N, right? We had classes together!” Nadia must’ve seen the expression on your face and giggled. “Oh, this isn’t what this looks like! He was helping me with these upcoming finals! I was a mess, but he really fixed me!”
She was grinning now as if she was mocking you. Your blood began to boil, and you sprinted away from his door.
“Did I say something wrong?” You heard Nadia ask as you ran away.
You couldn’t believe this. He really was fucking her?!?! A student? So quick after you two ended?! You felt like you couldn’t breathe with how furious you were. Hot tears were pricking your eyes as you continued to stomp away from that disgusting display. You fucking knew it. He was some sick professor that preyed on students, and your dumbass fell prey to him.
You were not aware T’Challa had chased after you until you were finally outside, and he grabbed your arm, pulling you towards him. He had been calling your name the whole time, but you couldn’t hear in all the anger.
“Y/N! Will you please calm down?!”
You pulled away from him roughly and gave him a huge shove to his chest.
“CALM DOWN?!?!! YOU WANT ME TO FUCKING CALM DOWN WHEN YOU GOT SOME BITCH FROM CAMPUS IN YOUR APARTMENT?!”
“Y/N, lower your voice please let me exp-“
You shoved him again, this time, the hot tears fell. “I KNEW YOU WERE A DIRTY DICK PROFESSOR THAT WAS OVER HERE PREYING ON STUDENTS! YOU WERE GIVING HER THE FIX TOO, I SEE!”
Now T’Challa was mad. “HAVE YOU LOST YOUR MIND, WOMAN?!”
You sarcastically laughed. “Oh yes! But I FUCKING FOUND IT! I should’ve never fucked your nasty ass!”
You turned on your heel to storm off, but he prevented that by grabbing your wrist roughly. You looked in his eyes, and you could’ve sworn you had never seen him that pissed before. You almost swallowed nervously.
“I did not fuck that woman! But even if I had, that is none of your concern! You ended our relationship to be with your boyfriend, correct?! So why are you still concerned about me?! Why did you even come here?!”
You finally swallowed and pulled your arm again, with no success. “I wanted to fucking talk to you! I didn’t wanna be on bad terms with you-“
“WELL, WE ARE. UNDERSTAND?! YOU CAN NOT BREAK MY HEART, AND COME BACK HERE AND EXPECT ME TO ASSOCIATE WITH YOU! HOW INCREDIBLY SELFISH ARE YOU?!?!”
That was it. He finally burst. You were still trying to register what he just said to you. Break his heart?
T’Challa’s face softened, and he loosened the grip he had on your wrist.
“I loved you. Loved you more than he did. I did everything I could to show you that I loved you, but you wanted him. I would have given you the world if you asked me to, Y/N. But you did not want the world from me. You wanted it from him. Even after you wounded me with your actions and now your words, I still love you.”
You don’t know what possessed you to do this, but you did it. You slapped him. Right across the face. You did it hard as hell too. He was shocked by your action. You were somewhat shocked by your action.
“You’re a fucking liar.” You hissed venomously. “You don’t fucking love me. You ran into that hoe’s arms right after I left! And now you wanna say you love me?!”
T’Challa‘s anger came back. “What are you doing here, really? Wanting to talk to me?! As if you care about me?! As if you love me?!”
“I DO! I FUCKING DO!” You shouted out, shocking him and yourself. It felt like something that was waiting to burst out of you, and it finally did. You felt relief, but you were still so fucking mad at him.
He finally let your wrist go completely. “I see I am not the only fucking liar here.”
His words cut deep. You were hurt. He denied your love, but hell, you did the same thing, so how could you really talk?
More tears fell, and you wiped them away, quickly. You took a deep breath and chuckled dryly.
“You know what? Go to hell and take that fucking slut with you.” You spat and turned to storm away, but you turned back to let out one more thing before completely walking away.
“And you’re right. I am a liar. Because I fucking hate you.”
You didn’t know when you got back to your dorm, but you did. Through the tears you sobbed while walking, you managed to make it to your dorm safely. You hated him, but you loved him. You love him. It took a minute to realize, but you did. If anything, you’ve been in denial about it because Aaron was all you knew. How could you let go of all you knew?
Maybe you held onto the thing making you sad because once upon a time, it made you happy.
You fucked up. You hurt T’Challa and yourself by being an absolute fuck up. In reality, you didn’t deserve him. You clearly weren’t the type of girl he should love. Maybe he’ll find love with Nadia, and she’ll finally sit her lil nasty ass down. You had it coming.
You were scared to love him, and now you lost him.
Amid your sobbing and wallowing, you finally noticed your group chat had messages and, before you could read them, Melanie was calling you.
“HOE!!!” She screamed as soon as you answered the phone. You wanted to smile, but you couldn’t.
“What’s up?”
“Were you not looking at the group chat?! Bitch, we're about to go to this party at GSU. You down?!”
You shook your head as if she could see you. “I don’t think so. I’m not really up to partying.”
“Come on, bitch! Let’s go! We gotta party one time before we really gotta focus on finals! We deserve it! Besides, doesn’t your boo go here?”
She’s right. Finals was about to whoop our ass, and Aaron did go to GSU, the college thirty minutes away from yours. Fuck it. Let’s party and see your actual man instead of thinking about that stupid man you still love.
You got off the phone to get cute, and your friends came to get you an hour later. When you arrived at the party, it was loud and looked fun as fuck. Once you walked, Mel immediately went up to a guy, and Cass went to go get a drink. Ari stayed with you, being just as asocial and anxious as you are. Soon after, a man asked Ari to go dance, and she looked at you for permission. You silently gave it to her, and she went on her way. Now you were alone. You sighed deeply. This was trash. You should’ve stayed in your dorm. You really weren’t in the mood to party.
A minute or two later, You decided to follow Cass’s lead and go get a drink. Maybe you just needed a drink or 2 or 5 or 10. You didn’t see Cass where the drinks were. You shrugged this off and continued getting a drink. As you were sipping, the three stooges ran up to you, with calm but panicked looks on their faces. What was going on?
“Hey, this party is actually wack. I think we should go.” Mel stated as the rest of them agreed with her easily. What the fuck is their problem?
“Yeah, it’s a Friday night. There’s probably another party we can go to.” Cass chimed in.
You looked at all three suspiciously. “What’s wrong with you guys? Your niggas did something?” You snorted before taking another sip.
“No, but yours did,” Ari mumbled under her breath, causing the other two to hit her. You didn’t hear her though.
“What?”
“Nothing, sweetie. We should just go!” Mel attempted to push you out of the kitchen while Cass and Ari followed behind. Once you almost made it to the front door, you glanced to your right, and think it was the alcohol affecting you, but you only had one drink. Were you drugged?
“Hey guys. Is it just me, or is that Aaron kissing a man?” You questioned, giggling at how ridiculous that might’ve sounded. When your three friends stopped, hung their heads in defeat, and sighed, right then and there, you knew you weren’t drugged. The alcohol wasn’t affecting you, and what you were seeing was real life.
“You guys…Why the FUCK is Aaron kissing a man?”
********************
A/N: uh oh! Did anyone see that coming? I know I did because I am the author 😇 I do wanna make a few things clear:
I do not condone homophobia so please know this isn’t the direction I am going in with this story. Reader will NOT be homophobic, and I’m trying my absolute best to make sure she doesn’t come across as so.
This bombshell moment has always been intended since the beginning of this story. It's not something I threw in for the hell of it lol. If you reread the parts and even this chapter, the hints were there!
That fight between you and T’Challa was whew! But let’s see how and if we come back from this! 😉
Learn Ya || Chapter 9
Chapter 1 Chapter 2 Chapter 3 Chapter 4 Chapter 5 Chapter 6 Chapter 7 Chapter 8
Author Notes: SURPRISE SHAWTY. Shout out to everyone that lowkey bullied me into continuing this fic some three years later. I love y’all for that. I kept the same tag list as before so if you no longer wish to be tagged, just let me know.
Amaya felt like her whole world had come crashing down in a matter of seconds.
She’d had her life planned out from the time that she was a young girl, and now all of those plans had gone astray. She could understand that her mother’s job was having financial issues and there needed to be cut backs as far as employees went. What she couldn’t understand was why her mother needed to be included in that. She sort of knew that she was being selfish about her true reasoning for caring that her mother lost her job, but she couldn’t help it. Her entire world had just been flipped on its head.
She couldn’t afford school anymore. The financial aid she had been given didn’t cover the complete cost of her first year. Her mother was going to cover the difference so that Amaya didn’t have to worry about the financial strain of school and could solely focus on making sure she made the best grades that she could. She was even going to cut back on the hours she worked at the centre to give her all to her academics.
That wasn’t the case anymore.
She had to come up with the money in a very short amount of time and she had really only two options as far as she was concerned because deferring a year simply wasn’t going to work for her.
She could either work more hours at the centre to get the money to pay the difference or she could take out student loans. Honestly, neither of them were stellar options, but she was heavily leaning towards the student loans. It would give her the money she needed right in that moment and she could deal with the fall out to her credit score and paying it back later in life. All she wanted to do was go to law school. How she did it really didn’t matter to her anymore.
“Is everything alright, Amaya? You have been unusually quiet tonight?”
She looked up from the plate of food she had been toying around with the last few minutes, pushing around bits of mashed potatoes across the ceramic, and saw T’Challa looking at her. Concern was etched into his features, brows sitting low on his face and his full lips pulled down into a soft frown.
She really should have canceled their date but she hadn’t been able to bring herself to do that. It had been a few weeks since she had last seen him and she knew he was a busy man. Though, she supposed canceling would’ve been better than going and being in a sour mood the entire night.
“Yeah, everything is fine.” She did her best to put on the most convincing smile but the look that he gave her showed that it didn’t work in her favor.
“I do not appreciate being lied to.” The frown was still etched on his face but his voice was soft, almost as if he didn’t want to scare her.
Amaya pulled her bottom lip between her teeth and let out a small breath through her nose. She certainly hadn’t meant to lie to him but she wasn’t sure if they were at the stage where she could dump all of her issues onto him. Everything up until that point had been lighthearted and fun so it was hard to say if he truly even wanted to know. She allowed silence to settle between the two of them as she continued to push around food on her plate, lost in her thoughts. It might be good to talk to someone who could provide an outside prospect of things, and he might even have some sort of sage advice to give to her.
“No, really everything is fine,” she had every intention of leaving it at that but the way he lifted one brow let her know that it wasn’t going to fly a second time. “My mother lost her job and now I’m trying to figure out how to pay for law school.”
She hadn’t really said those words out loud. Other people might have said them to her, Charlie or her brother, and she might have thought them on more than one occasion, but the words had never once left her mouth. Not even when her mother had sat her down and told her the whole truth. Saying the words out loud would only make the reality of her situation settle in, making it that much harder for her to try and deny the truth. She had hoped that if she simply just remained positive then maybe things would work themselves out, but with each passing day, she could see that a positive attitude wasn’t going to work and that very same attitude diminished and made way for a more negative one.
When his hand moved across the table, she didn’t hesitate to slip her into his. Regardless of whatever mood she was in, her body sought out the physical comfort from him because there was something about his presence that had been nothing but soothing for her, even in the times he made her heart stutter in her chest.
“How much is your balance?”
“A lot.”
“How much is a lot?”
“$19,980. I gave them $20 so they would stop calling me for a few days but really I just think the lady felt bad for me when I started crying on the phone. Half of that needs to be paid by the end of next week.” Again, she had thought about her situation plenty of times but saying it out loud only made it that much more daunting for her.
“I will take care of it.” His tone was so final as he squeezed her hand.
“T’Challa, no. I can’t ask you to do that.” The very last thing she wanted him to think was that she had only told him in hopes that he would pay for it.
“It is a good thing you are not asking and I am offering.”
“I mean I get that but I’m still saying no.”
“It is also a good thing I am not seeking your permission on this.”
Amaya rolled her eyes and kissed her teeth. “Now is not the time to be playing that little game where you need to have control over everything. This is serious and it’s too much money for you to pay and I can’t pay you back,”
“You will not need to pay me back. Consider it an early graduation gift if that will help you feel better about accepting the money.”
“I don’t need you to do that. I can figure something out.” She made a face and could start to feel herself get defensive.
The logical part of her knew that he was only doing this out of the kindness of his heart and not because he thought she couldn’t do it on her own (which they both know that she couldn’t). But there was also some jaded part of her that felt like he was doing it because he expected something in return. Sex maybe.
Of course there had been indications that the two of them were sexually attracted to each other, anyone on the outside looking in could see that, but he hadn’t given her any reason to believe that was the one and only thing that he was after. It was yet another thing she had to remind herself that set him apart from the men she had dealt with in the past. Particularly Rod.
“Come here.” A frown had once again settled onto his face as she pulled her hand away from his.
“You can’t just distract me with whatever you’re going to try and do.”
“Amaya,” her name was a rough warning on his tongue that she felt right between her thighs. What was wrong with her that him being even a little stern with her was making her wet? “Come here. I won’t tell you again.”
She watched as he pushed his chair away from the table a little bit. Any other time she would’ve pushed the boundaries a little bit more, trying to see just how much she was able to get away with, but she didn’t have the energy. She mirrored his actions and stood up from her own chair, rounding the table to stand in front of him. She wasn’t standing long before she found herself being pulled down into his lap.
A shuddering breath left her lips when a large hand rested against the bit of thigh exposed by her dress. A distraction and damn if it wasn’t working.
“Why is it so hard for you to accept my help?” She could barely think with the way his thumb traced back and forth across her skin.
“Because I don’t want you thinking I told you so you would help me.”
“If you are going to be someone in my life then you should expect to be taken care of in all aspects of your life, Amaya.” She had to admit that he did have a way with words but she could tell that he wasn’t just saying them for show. He meant them.
“I don’t think I know how to let people do things like this for me.” Amaya prided herself on being an independent woman. Of course, her mother and her family were there if and when she needed to help but no one outside of that circle really did anything to take care of her.
“I can teach you.”
————-
The rest of the dinner had placed Amaya in much better spirits and a lot of that was due in part to T’Challa keeping her in his lap with an arm wrapped around her waist as he held her close. The two of them fell back into their usual back and forth banter with ease. It was nice to not have to worry about whether or not she was going to be able to attend school or not.
She had never been so grateful to be called into work on a random Tuesday morning. Without that, she would’ve never met him and she would currently be shit out luck, probably forced to drop out of school because Rod certainly didn’t have an odd $20,000 laying around to help her out.
She still hadn’t agreed to let him pay for her first year but she also wasn’t fighting him on it either. She would sleep on it for a few days, telling him she would give him an answer in a few days time. He had been reluctant but he agreed, albeit begrudgingly.
The night was coming to a close and she felt an almost loss at knowing that he would be leaving in the morning and hadn’t really given her a time frame on when he would be back.
Her key twisted in the lock of her front door but she didn’t open it. Instead, she cleared her throat and mustered up all of her courage, putting on her proverbial big girl panties as she turned to look at him. “Did you want to…I don’t know like come in or something?”
Even in trying to make it sound like no big deal, her voice cracked.
“I would love to but I do fly out early tomorrow morning.” She was happy that he sounded sad about the fact but she had no intention of letting up.
“I know I know. It’s just Charlie isn’t home and I really don’t wanna be home alone, Sir.” She rocked back and forth from one foot to the other, looking up at him with what she could only hope was a look of helplessness.
T’Challa made a soft sound like a hum as he hooked his finger underneath her chin. “You call me that and think I’m just supposed to give in to you whatever you want.”
“I do.”
“I could tell you no right now. Don’t forget that, Amaya.” Despite the half grin forming on his lips, he gripped her chin a little tighter.
“I know you could, but do you wanna know what I think?” His fingers left her chin in order for his hand to cup the side of her face. Her body wasted no time leaning into his touch.
“Enlighten me, beautiful.”
“I think you don’t want to say no. I think you want to come in as much as I want you to come in. You just wanna play hard to get.” She reached behind her and opened her front door.
“I’m playing hard to get?” He chuckled softly as his brows lifted.
“Mhmm,” she nodded. “You definitely are and you need to cut it out before it gets you in trouble.”
She took one step back and then another, finding that he was following her back into her apartment. The way kept his eyes on her as he pulled her keys from the door and kicked it closed before flipping the lock, had her chewing on the inside of her cheek. She found that she loved having his attention solely on her.
“You and your mouth.” His thumb ran across her bottom lip and it took every ounce of strength that she had to resist the urge to pull the digit into her mouth. “Always pushing your limits.”
“You like it or else you would’ve made it so I couldn’t sit down for a week by now.”
“The night is still young.”
Taking his hand from the side of her face, she wrapped her fingers around his wrist to guide him to her bedroom. The voice in the back of head was telling her that she needed to get herself under control.  She hadn’t invited him up because she wanted to jump his bones. She really had invited him because she didn’t want to be alone for the night, and she wanted to spend what little time she did have left with him.
When she pushed open the door to her bedroom, she was grateful that she had cleaned up some before she left. Any other time, her room would have been in shambles with clothes and shoes thrown all over the place in her attempt to find something suitable to wear. Instead, it was just the small desk in the corner of her room that was a mess with books and papers haphazardly thrown across the top, and her bed that she had forgotten to make.
Her room was small and his large presence made it seem that much smaller.
“I’m gonna get changed but could you unzip my dress for me?” She could easily reach the zipper herself but that didn’t mean she couldn’t have a little fun. When she turned and pulled her braids over her shoulder, she felt his presence behind her.
T’Challa said nothing as one hand ghosted up her arm and the other wrapped around the small zipper and pulled it down slowly. Amaya swore her heart felt like it was about to explode out of her chest and it didn’t get any better when she felt his lips trail along the skin of her shoulder. She inhaled sharply. His fingers pushed down the thin straps of her dress and her hands instinctively came up to hold the dress in place before it hit the ground.
She talked a big game and had no problem teasing him but she wasn’t so sure that she wanted to drop her dress and stand in front of him in just a pair of panties just yet.
When his lips pressed the shell of her ear, her eyes fluttered and she let out a small sound despite her best efforts to remain calm. It had been far too long since someone had touched her, played with her body until her mind went fuzzy and she couldn’t think, and it showed.
“Go change before I forget that I would like to be a gentleman tonight.”
She wondered what might happen if she told him she didn’t want him to be a gentleman, but something was telling her that she wasn’t quite ready for that. T’Challa seemed like a man who knew exactly what he was doing with far more years of experience than she had. She didn’t want to write a check that her ass couldn’t cash.
“Right,” she nodded her head and stepped away from him.
She practically scurried out of the room with her pajamas in hand. She knew if she had stayed in her bedroom for one second longer, she would have easily given in to the x rated thoughts that had been swarming in her head. The magnetic pull that man had over her body was insane. Scary. Thrilling. And more than just a little erotic.
She had never wanted to fuck someone so badly in her life. It was to the point that if he asked, she would be hard pressed to say no, but she truly did what to take things slow with him. She wanted to be sure that they had something that went beyond just the very apparent physical connection and attraction.
And she didn’t want him to think she was a whore.
Amaya used her night time routine as a means to distract herself, probably taking far longer than she needed to, but she needed to give her body all the time that it needed to cool down. By the time she had gone through the steps, her body was still on edge but only just barely. She was sure she would be able to keep her hormones in check.
Or so she had thought before she stepped back into her bedroom to see T’Challa sitting up against her pillows with her civil procedures book in his hand. It would have been fine for her, nothing she wouldn’t have been able to handle if he hadn’t stripped down to his boxer briefs and nothing else. .
This man was going to be the death of her.
“You just made yourself right at home I see.” She gave him a pointed look before she shoved her clothes into her hamper. She just needed to distract and deflect so nothing got out of hand.
“Well, you can only leave a man to his own devices for so long before he starts to get bored.” The smirk he gave her when he looked up from the book had her grinning back at him like an idiot.
“I see that.” She rolled her eyes as she walked over to him and pulled the book from his hands. “I don’t think this is how you want to cure your boredom though.”
“Do you have any suggestions then?”
“I have a few, but you have to leave so early in the morning and I would hate to keep you up all night, y’know?” She pressed her lips together to keep from smiling as he laughed.
She dropped the book back off on her desk before she flopped down on her back onto her bed.
“Lay down before your mouth lands you into some trouble you can’t handle, Amaya.” He shook his head.
She had no doubt that she would find herself getting into some trouble at some point with him but tonight wasn’t going to be the night for that. Crawling into bed, she laid on her side with a hand curled underneath her chin so she could face him. He wasted no time in mirroring her actions minus the hand under his chin.
“Do you know when you might be able to come back?”
“Unfortunately, no I don’t. There are quite a few things back home that I will need to take care of before I can get away again.” His hand reached out and his thumb moved along her cheek.
She figured that he was a busy man but she’d had a sliver of hope that he would be back sooner rather than later. It was getting harder and harder each time to only have an afternoon or a few hours a night with him at a time before he disappeared for an extended period of times. Phone calls could only do so much.
She really did like having him around.
“Don’t look so sad,” she wasn’t aware that she had started to frown until he pointed it out. “I’ll still make sure to call you every day.”
“Don’t get me wrong, it is nice hearing from you every day but actually seeing you more often would be even better.” She shrugged her shoulders and toyed with the ring that hung from the chain around his neck. When she looked up there was something of a smug smile on his lips. “What?”
“If I didn’t know any better I would think you had a thing for me.”
“You’re alright I guess.” She rolled her eyes playfully.
“Oh I’m just alright? I guess I should go somewhere where I will be appreciated then.” He started to roll over to get out of bed before she caught his arm.
She pressed her body into his and buried her face into his chest, inhaling his scent gently. “Don’t go.”
His arms wrapped around her tightly, holding her close, as he pressed a gentle kiss to the top of her head.
“I’m right here, baby girl.”
Wakanda's Princess
Nakia's pregnant with T'Challa's daughter. What will these two do with the new princess?
Tumblr media
Chapter 4: Celebrations and Worries
A year later after the airport fight, Nakia had disappeared and T'Kia felt more and more distant toward the woman.
She wasn't often there to see her daughter grow as she let the Dora Milaje raise her.
It upset T'Kia but not as much. She had her Aunt Shuri and Okoye and her grandmother, after all. Nakia trusted Okoye to treat the girl like family and so she did.
Speaking of Okoye, T'Challa finally decided to let the girl come with him on a mission since his general would be accompanying them. T'Kia couldn't argue much on that.
The only downside, the general was taking them to see T'Kia's mother who was being held captive.
It irritated T'Kia. She trained for so long as a spy to get captured?? What was the point of missing out on so much of her life if she'd let something as a measly kidnapping get to her?
"My Prince... coming up on them now.", Okoye announces, bringing the princess out of her thoughts.
T'Challa's face slowly grows into a smile. He had missed his lover despite their falling out. Unlike T'Kia, the man had full faith in Nakia and her actions. Though, if she needed a little help, who was he to say no?
"No need, Okoye. I can handle this alone. I will get Nakia out as quickly as possible.", he says.
"Just don't freeze when you see her.", Okoye warns.
He scoffs and looks at her. "What are you talking about? I never freeze."
T'Kia smiled as she and her father jumped out of the helicarrier and headed opposite ways, taking the captors out one by one.
T'Kia came across a commotion, hearing a familiar voice as she hid in a tree.
"T'Challa, no! This one's just a boy. He got kidnapped as well.", T'Kia looked down from a tree to see a woman dressed up like the captured ones.
Was that her mother....?
T'Challa indeed froze, his heart stuttering at the sight of his lover.
"Nakia... I... I wanted...", he started, walking over to her. Suddenly a guard stood, pointing a gun at them. "Hey! I have her! Don't move! I will shoot! I will shoot her right now!"
T'Kia frowned and dropped down from the tree, kicking the  guard in the back as Okoye knocked him out. They nodded at each other before they walked up to him.
"You froze.", Okoye scolded the prince.
"Ah...", T'Challa looks down, flustered.
Nakia watched as her daughter shook her head at her father and caught her eyes.
She was silent. "T'Kia....", Nakia started, but the girl stayed by her father.
Nakia shook her head, turning to the man instead. "Why are you here? You've ruined my mission.", she told T'Challa.
"My father is dead, Nakia. Remember? I will be crowned king tomorrow and I wish for you to be there.", he explains.
She sighed and looked at the man before looking at her daughter. T'Kia only glared back. She wouldn't have cared if the woman missed out on her accomplishments at the moment, but this was a big thing that was happening.
Her father was going to be crowned king tomorrow. She needed to be there. She'd drag the woman there if she had to.
Nakia sighed. "Fine. I will come.", she says and looks at the captured women. "Carry yourselves home now."
"Thank you.", one of them spoke up. "And take the boy. Get him to his people.", Nakia orders. "You will speak nothing of this day."
The women nodded, grabbing hold of the captured boy. "Yes. Thank you. Thank you."
The Wakandans all climb back on the helicarrier after letting them go.
T'Kia stood by Okoye as her mother and father talked. Okoye noticed the princess's behavior toward the spy.
She… felt bad. She remembered years of the girl asking where her mother was and when she'd be back. Okoye could only promise that it'd be soon every time.
Eventually, that wouldn't have slid past the girl. Seems now it wouldn't have worked anyways. The girl had gotten old enough to understand.
The two warriors watched as the sun rose, the light kissing their skin with a warmth they knew so well.
Okoye smiled. "Sister Nakia... My Prince...", she looked at T'Kia who seemed to be half asleep. "Princess. We are home."
"This never gets old.", T'Challa mutters in amazement.
As they landed on the launchpad, they climbed out of the helicarrier approaching Queen Ramonda and Shuri.
"Queen Mother... Shuri... My comfort for your loss.", Nakia speaks up.
"Thank you, Nakia. It is so good to have you back with us. Take her to the River Province.", Queen Ramonda says and looks at her granddaughter with a sweet smile.
The girl was tired and needed rest soon but fought her sleep with irritation. Queen Ramonda easily brought the girl in her arms as Okoye had Nakia ushered off to get comfortable.
Shuri smirks suddenly, watching her brother's gaze.
"Did he freeze?", Shuri asks Okoye, making T'Kia smile at her.
Okoye's smile widened, "Like an antelope in headlights.", Okoye says, egging her on.
The women laugh at him as he crosses his arms as he looks at his general whose grin never leaves her face.
"Are you finished?", he asks, fed up and watches as the Dora Milaje walks away.
He shakes his head and looks at Shuri. "So surprised my little sister came to see me off before our big day."
She scoffs. "You wish! I'm here for the EMP beads. I've developed an update."
"Update? No.", he says, shaking his head fast. "It worked perfectly."
"How many times do I have to teach you? Just because something works doesn't mean that it cannot be improved.", she says.
"You are teaching me? What do you know?", he asks, taking off his beads and handing them to her.
"More than you.", she boasts and walks off.
T'Challa shakes his head as he watches his baby sister walk away. "I can't wait to see what kind of update you make... to your ceremonial outfit.", he calls, and she flips him off.
Both T'Challa and T'Kia's jaws drop, making Queen Ramonda scold her daughter. "Shuri!", she warns. "Sorry, Mother!", Shuri apologizes.
"How are you feeling today, Mama?", T'Challa asks, smiling.
"Proud. Your father and I would talk about this day all the time. He is with us…", she glanced at the young princess. "All of us. And it is your time to be king.", she says.
Despite the early morning, the time for celebration came. Shuri made sure T'Kia had her correct tribal ceremonial clothing on before it started, her excitement bouncing off of the girl.
The time for celebration was among them and celebrate, they did. The chants, the music, the dancing and smiles excited T'Kia and filled her with warmth.
She never got to be a part of something like this before, let alone smile so much, now knowing she'd be a big part of her father's life.
As they made it to the watery cliffs, Shuri and T'Kia stood by Queen Ramonda waiting for T'Challa to arrive.
Once he did, Zuri held the Spear of Bashenga, calling to the audience. "I, Zuri, Son of Badu, give to you, Prince T'Challa! The Black Panther!", he announced.
The Elders watch as Zuri holds up a ceremonial vessel containing a mysterious concoction that T'Kia had never seen.
"The prince will now have the strength of the Black Panther stripped away.", Zuri explains and pours the liquid into T'Challa's mouth.
T'Challa reacts violently, nearly choking on the red fluid. He spasms, his veins expanding and his muscles contracting as the poisonous liquid expands through his body.
T'Kia looked at her aunt and grandmother in worry, but they gave her reassuring looks in return. The prince's eyes become red before he calms, his trembling coming to a stop, and he exhales as he stands.
Pleased, Zuri turns to the audience. "Damaku!"
"The Border Tribe will not challenge today.", others yell.
The crowd repeats. "Damaku!"
"Victory in ritual combat comes by yield or death. If any tribe wishes to put forth a warrior, I now offer a path to the throne.", Zuri exclaims.
The Merchant Tribe Warrior calls out, "The Merchant Tribe will not challenge today."
"Yibambe!", Nakia yelled, receiving the same chant in return.
"The River Tribe will not challenge today!", the River elder announced.
"The Mining Tribe will not challenge today.", the mining elder announced.
"Is there any member of royal blood... who wishes to challenge for the throne?", Zuri asked.
Shuri raised her hand, making everyone look at her in shock.
"This corset is really uncomfortable... so could we all just wrap it up and go home?", Shuri says, clapping. T'Kia shakes her head as Queen Ramonda pinches Shuri in exasperation. "Mother!", Shuri whines.
T'Challa, amused, shakes his head at his sister's antics before pausing as he and the others hear a familiar chant.
"Are they Jabari?", Shuri asks. "Yes.", Queen Mother responds. T'Kia frowned. She'd heard of the Jabari, but never got close to seeing any of them.
A huge man with a monkey skull over his face enters from the darkness.
"M'Baku, what are you doing here?", Zuri asks.
He shrugs with a tilt of his head. "It's Challenge Day. We have watched... and listened from the mountains! We have watched with disgust... as your technological advancements have been overseen by a child!", he yells pointing at Shuri, making the Dora Milaje and T'Kia step in front of her.
M'Baku's head tilts once more in curiosity as he looks at the girl who glared back at the man. "New. You're new. And younger.", he turns to the Queen. "Are you allowing children to fight now?"
Queen Ramonda doesn't say anything before T'Challa steps up. "Address me, not my mother.", he says, making the taller man turn to him.
The warning look in his eyes sends a message that M'Baku caught onto quickly. A laugh escapes him as he looks back at the girl.
"You're the child.", he says, another laugh ripping from his gut.
He continues, "Your technological advancements have been overseen by a child. Who scoffs at tradition!", he finishes, as his newfound irritation rises again before he turns to the prince.
"And now you want to hand the nation over to this prince...", he says, standing over T'Challa. "Who could not keep his own father safe. Mmm? We will not have it. I said, we will not have it, oh! I, M'Baku... leader of the Jabari..."
"I accept your challenge, M'Baku.", T'Challa cuts him off.
M'Baku's shoulders square back. "Glory to Hanuman."
They've already started their fighting and M'baku kicks T'Challa down after so many impacts.
Through the loud drumming, M'Baku yells, "Stand up!"
"Where is your god now!?", he shouts.
T'Challa gets up and gives him an over kick. He punches M'Baku in his sides as M'Baku swings aimlessly.
"Yes!", Nakia and T'Kia cheer.
M'Baku takes his staff and picks up T'Challa with it, crushing him with his bare weight. T'Challa is now bleeding from his face, almost dizzy and tired.
"No powers!", M'Baku headbutts him. "No claws!" He gives him another. "No special suit! Just a boy!"
T'Challa's head dangles back and catches T'Kia's glossy eyes.
"Tell him who you are!!", his mother yells.
T'Challa quickly leans up to punch M'Baku back. T'Kia cheered on in hope as he cracked open M'Baku's mask.
M'Baku, shocked at the sight of blood coming from his own face, screams in anger and stabs T'Challa right where his heart should be, leaving the Udaku family in shock.
T'Challa's eyes widen as he shouts in pain, gripping onto the staff.
"Baba!!", T'Kia rushes to move, but Shuri holds her back.
T'Challa takes a quick glance at his daughter before glaring at M'Baku, his bloody teeth gritting. "I am Prince T'Challa... son of King T'Chaka!!", he yells.
"You can do this, T'Challa!", Shuri yells.
T'Challa pulls out the pointed edge and dodges as M'Baku swings to stab him again, kicking him into the water.
He wraps his legs around his neck, bringing him closer to the edge of the cliff.
"Yes!", T'Kia cheered.
"Come on!", Nakia yells.
"Yield! Don't make me kill you!", T'Challa yells as M'Baku's face swells with the lack of oxygen.
"I'd rather die!", M'Baku yells.
Others start chanting T'Challa's name.
"You have fought with honor. Now, yield! Your people need you.", he says. Worry almost wracks T'Challa's body. Was M'Baku really going to let his pride in the way of living? M'Baku glances at his own warriors.
"Yield, man!", T'Challa yells. Cheers erupt as M'Baku taps out.
T'Kia sighs in relief and smiles at her father as he stands, watching as the Jabari warriors pull the bigger man up.
Zuri walks over to him. "I now present to you, King T'Challa. The Black Panther."
T'Challa nods to him. "Zuri."
"My King.", he only nods back.
"Wakanda Forever!!", the tribes yell simultaneously.
T'Challa is moved on to the Hall of Kings, an ancient place that represented the past kings of Wakanda.
He watches as his daughter's eyes sparkle with wonder. How long had this been here, she thought.
The place was huge.
As they stopped, T'Challa was placed onto the red soil, ready to be buried. T'Kia kneels by his head as he gives her a smile of reassurance.
Zuri walks up, his hands holding the liquidized herd.
"Allow the Heart-Shaped Herb... to restore the powers of the Black Panther... and take you to the Ancestral Plane." Zuri feeds him the fluid of the herb.
T'Challa's body shivers as he lets out a groan, swallowing the liquid.
"T'Chaka, we call on you. Come here to your son.", Zuri calls. The crowd watches as T'Challa's veins pulsate throughout his body.
T'Challa's eyes shut and pop open as he wakes up in a grassy plain, with the sky a purple-ish hue. It was beautiful, almost cold. He felt… free.
He heard a familiar voice behind him, a laugh following the voice. He turned around to see his father smiling at him proudly.
"Baba."
"My son.", T'Chaka responds. T'Challa quickly kneeled in front of him.
"Stand.", T'Chaka says. "You are a King now."
T'Challa looks up at him. A frown dropped his face as he shook his head and stood up, his head hanging low.
T'Chaka frowns as well, worried. "What's wrong, my son?", he asks.
"I am not ready.", T'Challa confesses.
He never imagined the sudden pressure of being king. It was happening and now he just wanted to run. To be what he used to be.
He always wondered how his father managed to do it. To balance and juggle responsibilities as if it was nothing.
"Have you not prepared to be King your whole life? Have you not trained and studied been by my side?"
T'Challa shook his head, clenching his fists. "I am not ready to be without you.", T'Challa says.
He frowns. "A man who has not prepared his children for his own death, has failed as a father. Have I ever failed you....?"
T'Challa looks up, a shocked expression crossing his face. "Never."
T'Chaka hugs his son in a warm hold he hasn't had in so long. T'Challa felt like a little boy again, scared and vulnerable.
He lets out a sigh. "Tell me how to protect Wakanda. To protect my family. My daughter. I want to be a great King, Baba. Just like you."
T'Chaka rubs his back. "You will struggle. That is inevitable. So you'll need to surround yourself with people you trust. You have your sister, your mother, your love, and...your daughter.", he says, making T'Challa eyes widen.
"You must prepare her like I did for you and your sister. You're a good man with a good heart. And it's hard for a good man to be king.", he says.
T'Challa suddenly jolted awake, out of breath as he felt someone pulled him up.
"Breathe, T'Challa. Breathe. Breathe.", Zuri tells him.
He takes calming deep breaths and looks around, smiling at T'Kia and Zuri who look at him worriedly.
"You're okay.", T'Kia says, more to her beating, worrying heart than him. She knew he'd be okay. He fought off poisoning and a stab close to the heart. He was strong.
"He was there.", T'Challa chuckled, as Zuri pulled him up. "He was there. My father."
T'Challa felt a bursting sense of confidence and took T'Kia to walk in the city once more with Nakia. He wanted to spend time with them as a family. He had his own family. It was still a little hard to get used to, knowing he was a father now.
He loved it.
T'Kia, however, didn't mind following along with her father. It was just her mother that was the problem.
Though, a conflicting thought crossed her mind. Maybe she was being childish for letting her feelings get the better of her. She shouldn't feel resentful toward her mother for not being around.
She was busy. Parents get busy. It happens.
She knew that, but…
"Come home, Nakia.", she hears her father say.
"I'm right here.", Nakia says, looking at T'Challa incredulously.
His eyes softened, pleading. "Stay."
"I came to support you and to honor your father, but I can't stay. I found my calling out there. I've seen too many in need just to turn a blind eye.", Nakia says, sighing.
T'Challa frowns, glancing back at his daughter who looked around, waving and smiling at other civilians before turning to his lover.
"Then, what about T'Kia? What about her? Will you stay for her?", T'Challa whispers.
Nakia frowns. "I just can't be happy here knowing that there's people out there who have nothing.", she says and glanced at T'Kia. "Besides, she hates me."
T'Challa looked at her in disbelief. "She does not."
Nakia fixes him a look. "You didn't see the look she gave me. She doesn't want to talk to me at the moment."
T'Challa frowns. He noticed, just chose not to say anything. It was true she hadn't been around, and maybe T'Kia missed her a lot, but after seeing her again, she must feel torn.
He shakes his head, moving on. "Then, what would you have Wakanda do about it?", he asks.
"Share what we have. We could provide aid...and access to technology and refuge to those who need it. Other countries do it, we could do it better.", Nakia says, enthusiastically.
"We are not like these other countries, Nakia. If the world found out what we truly are, what we possess, we could lose our way of life.", T'Challa says.
"For once, I agree.", T'Kia speaks up.
She didn't want to meet any colonizers right now, let alone trust them not to steal anything from her home.
She learned a lot from her aunt, seeing that Vibranium was being used for weapons outside of its native habitat and people. It wasn't right.
"Wakanda is strong enough to help others and protect ourselves at the same time.", Nakia argued.
T'Challa sighs and gives her a look. "If you were not so stubborn, you would make a great Queen."
"I would make a great Queen, because I am so stubborn.", Nakia counters, sassily.
"So, you admit it!", he exclaims.
"I did not say that."
T'Kia smiles to herself.
Imagine being Shuri's girlfriend who she pushed away when T'Challa died but when Namor appears she realises just how much she needs you
Tumblr media
You were a mutant blessed with the gift of lightning born in Wakanda. You were invited to Charles Xavier's school but unlike other mutants you weren't shunned from your home. Wakanda was used to the supernatural and saw it as a blessing from the ancestors so your gift was embraced. Still it was quite rare and so your family received a lot of attention and favours while elevated them a lot. As one such favour, you were invited to train with the Jabari tribe in the mountains to hone your lightning. The tribe was of course very well respected and so you went along happily...but they weren't the only ones interested in your gift. The princess invited you to her lab when she was 14. She wanted to meet you and of course to investigate your powers as a scientist. You'd spent 2 years with the Jabari tribe so were pretty comfortable using your gifts by now. You were the same age as Shuri and took an instant liking to her the second you saw her smile. You were both powerful fun-loving young women who got along easily and fell in love even easier. There were 4 long years of pining and fitting before finally Shuri asked you to be her girlfriend and you agreed. Together you honed your powers and of course Shuri created tons of tech and suits for you. On your own you could only shoot lightning bolts a few feet in front of you but with Shuri's suit that more than tripled and the intensity of your powers was also strengthened.
When Killmonger appeared and de-throned T'Challa you escaped with Shuri and helped her family reach the Jabari tribe safely. Given your close relationship with M'Baku you advocated for the royal family and they were allowed to stay. You helped restore T'Challa to the throne and fought beside Shuri. As you grew older you went from strength to strength. T'Challa had always liked you partly because he could tease Shuri about you but also because he could see how happy you made her. Shuri's mother was a little more traditional but she warmed up to you and now treated you like a daughter. So the two of you were very happy together but everything changed when T'challa died. Shuri became obsessed with her work and retreated to her lab. Okoye and even Queen Ramonda sought your help in getting her out of there but it didn't work. Shuri had put up a wall that even you couldn't break through. In some way it felt like she'd purposefully built that wall for you. You were no longer a couple and while you still saw each other every day she distanced herself from you more and more. When you eventually confront her on the matter she said she couldn't deal with a relationship right now and unofficially broke up with you. You were at a loss for what to do. You understood she was in a fragile time and everyone kept telling you she'd change her mind once her grief lessened but a year later and still she was cold and distant towards you. With your work as a member of the elite guards you still saw her every week but it was never the same and you had no idea how to get her back. Then suddenly a new threat arose and Shuri went to America with Okoye to solve it but got into more danger when she was captured and taken hostage. You couldn't believe Shuri had left on a dangerous mission and hadn't told you. She hadn't told you about Namor and you had to find out from another guard what had happened. She hadn't even said goodbye when she left. You were heartbroken. Were you really so separate now she didn't even think to see you before leaving on a dangerous mission overseas? Didn't she think you'd want to know? You were so scared for her and asked the ancestors every day to bring her back safely. You promised to never ask for anything ever again if they did that but when Shuri did come back you didn't just feel relief you also felt anger. You had heard everyone buzzing and hoped Shuri might be back. You walked into her lab and saw her standing next to Nakia and the Queen. You stopped right in your tracks frozen. "Y/n look who it is" Nakia said smiling at you but you just felt pain. Shuri noticed your expression and waved "I'm fine don't worry". Tears filled your eyes and you rushed from the room before you burst into tears. You were crying as you ran when Shuri followed you. "Y/n!" she called "please stop, I'm sorry I made you worry but I'm fine. There's no need to cry" and she tried to touch your arm but you moved away from her. "Why didn't you tell me you were going?" you yelled "do I matter that little to you anymore? I know you don't love me anymore but I still love you Shuri!" you cried. Shuri looked down uncomfortable and you shook your head. "You used to love it when I told you that, not it just disgusts you". "It's not that" Shuri said "y/n I am now the heir and that changes things. I will need to continue my family's line and I cannot do that with you". You felt like she'd slapped you even though objectively the statement made sense. "So what? You marry a man you don't even love just so you can reproduce?" you asked "I thought you scoffed at tradition?". Shuri looked down "I don't know! I just know there are a lot of uncertain things about the future and my brother's death has changed everything". "Even the way you feel about me?" you asked and Shuri swallowed. "No, never" she said "but it does change how I can act on it". You shook your head and unsure what to even say just backed away. This time she let you go. You sought out Okoye wanting nothing to do with the royal family and as she'd been banished she didn't mind. You were sat together one morning comforting one another when Nakia found you both. When she saw you, her eyes filled with pity and you could see all the things she wanted to say. "Don't" you said "I am fine". "No you're not" Okoye said and you rolled your eyes "fine I'm not! The woman I love no longer wants to be with me because she needs a child and I can't give her that..." you sighed "but I also can't change that so what can you do?". "That is the reason Shuri broke up with you?" Nakia asked and you nodded "she said she needs an heir. T'Challa obviously didn't have any children and after her mother she is the last of her line...so we're done". Okoye shook her head but Nakia was staring at you. "Nakia, are you okay?" you asked and she shook her head looking down "I'm fine I just...I'm sad for you is all". You got the feeling she was lying but before you could react the wall exploded with water. "It's Namor!" Nakia said and she rushed to help a civilian. "Okoye, y/n!" she called and while Okoye ran to the people you ran to the water. "Y/n no!" Okoye said but you shook your head "don't worry I know what I'm doing" and you started climbing up the cliffside. Without your gear you couldn't give deadly blasts but you could still paralyse people. You zapped the water and two of Namor's people instantly fell to the ground. You made sure to avoid anywhere near your people and targeted the ocean. You worked your way along the cliff firing bolts until you looked up to see a flying man heading right for you. You supposed this must be Namor and flexed your hands "let's see how fish boy lasts against lightning" and got ready. With your suit you might've had a chance but one-on-one against a god while perched on an unsteady cliff? You fired a few bolts near him but he was fast and dodged them pretty easily. He knocked you off your perch and sent you crashing into the water below. Obviously once you were in the water your power was useless. You couldn't electrocute anyone without also doing so to yourself and so tried to find land as soon as you could. "Y/n!" you heard someone call and looked up to see M'Baku. He was on a boat and held his arm out to you "just don't use your powers, you'll kill us all". "Got it" you nodded dragging yourself up and you helped to paddle to shore. Once there a ship beamed you up and deposited you into a group of people. "Y/n!" Shuri said hugging you before you could even register she was there. "What were you thinking fighting him? He's a god!". "And I'm a mutant" you replied "you know in some places people would claim I'm a descendant of a god or demi-god". "You're not half god y/n" Shuri said fondly and you smiled before you both realised what you were doing. "I need my suit..." you said awkwardly "but I guess I can't go home to get it". Shuri shook her head "it's okay I have multiple duplicated in my lab". You nodded and were about to turn away when Okoye said you needed to get to the palace. Namor killed Shuri's mother. When you got there Okoye and Nakia were trying to revive her. "Someone hold her back!" Okoye cried and you grabbed Shuri. She tried desperately to get away from you and you thanked M'Baku for all the strength training he made you do. You held Shuri while she screamed and cried until Nakia said Queen Ramonda was dead. Then Shuri just broke down crying and she stopped trying to fight you. She just fell into you and you held her. The others left the two of you alone as you cradled Shuri in your arms. When Shuri stopped crying she was quiet for a while before she spoke. "I should get up and sort everything..." she said. "You don't have to if you don't want to" you said "we have time and someone else will start the arrangements". Shuri shook her head "I want to" and you helped her stand. She went to walk away and then looked back for you, confused why you weren't coming. So used to her icing you out you paused "would you like me to come with you". She nodded silently and you fell into step with her. After her mother's death Shuri changed towards you. She was cold to everyone but retreated back to you like a sage space. It was as if losing her last family member made her reassess her stance on your relationship and she came back to you. You stood behind her at the funeral and helped her work in the lab just like old times. You, Nakia and Riri worked on the ritual for her and when she began freaking out you calmed her down. You got her to breathe and stop yelling. Then she realised she did have the powers of the black panther and everything changed. Shuri wowed all the elders and emerged as Wakanda's new hero so you all began prepping for war. You were still worried about Shuri though. She didn't just want to stop Namor she wanted to end him. You got after losing her mother she was rightly furious but killing wasn't Shuri. That wasn't the happy cheeky girl you knew. She wasn't a killer. Before the battle you helped Shuri get ready and she noticed you were quiet. "What's wrong?" she asked and you shook your head "you're going out there to fight a god and you're asking me what's wrong?". Shuri shook her head "i won't be alone" and she took your hand "plus I can tell there's something else bothering you". You sighed "Shuri...what are you going to do when you defeat Namor". Shuri looked you in the eye and shrugged "I'll kill him". You frowned "but Shuri are you sure that's what you should do? Your mother wouldn't want you to...". "My mother is gone! So if my brother and my father! All of them are gone and someone needs to pay...I think my mother's murderer is a pretty good choice". You nodded "he deserves it but you don't. Shuri killing him will change you and it's something you might come to regret plus I don't think you can do it. You're not like that...". Shuri shook her head "I'm capable of it y/n I know I am. I can feel it and I have proof. "I saw kill monger" she told you and you paused "when?". "He was the one waiting for me. Not T'challa. Not my mother or father...him. That's all the proof we need that I can do this". You shook your head "no I don't believe it. The ancestors must've shown you him for a reason, to remind you of where this path will lead if you take it, to show you why you should find another way...". "There is no other way y/n" Shuri said sharply "I've made up my mind now are you going to come with me or not?". You shook your head "there's no way I'd let you go alone" and despite everything Shuri smiled. You all assembled on a huge ship and waited for Namor. You were going to stay on the ship and electrocute as many of Namor's people as possible while Shuri took him onto her ship. She'd kitted you out in a brand new suit which was practically buzzing with how much power it had. When Namor's people appeared you were the first person to fire a shot. You raised your right arm and fired a bolt of electricity right into the ocean. Immediately 10 of Namor's soldiers floated paralysed. You smiled at the power of Shuri's machine and got to work. The trouble was you didn't want to hurt any of your own people so as soon as one of your people fell in the water, you couldn't shoot. Then you worked on the ones on the ship. Any that got near to you quickly fell but again as they brought water onto the boat you had to be careful not to electrocute anyone else. So your attack got more and more short-ranged until you just used your hands. Any soldier you could get your hands on went down but they realised your power was becoming more limited and began swarming you. It made sense they'd try and take out the girl with lightning. You were trying to defend yourself when you slipped and they all pushed forwards. Nakia yelled your name and then Okoye was there in her suit. She swept Namor's people off you and once you regained your footing you were back in action. Still Namor's army seemed endless though and they soon took control of the boat. You were getting pushed to the edge and the only thing stopping them from climbing the side and taking you was the precise lightning you ran down the edge of the boat but you couldn't keep it up forever. Your energy was fading and they knew the second you faltered it was over. So Namor's people targeted you once again while your people tried to defend you. An arrow suddenly got through the defences making you cry out in pain and drop your electricity. The army swarmed and that's when Shuri appeared. When you saw Namor beside her, calling off his army you cheered louder than anyone. Then you did the Wakanda forever salute and swore at the pain in your arm. Okoye made you sit down and started calling for a medic. You got the Queen of Wakanda herself. The second Shuri realised you were hurt she beamed you up into her ship and worked on you. You asked for details of what had happened but she shushed you while she worked. By the time you got back to Wakanda she'd pretty much healed your arm and the pain was just a numb ache. Then Shuri told you what had happened. That she'd spared Namor's life and there was an alliance there. You were so happy you screamed and threw your arms around Shuri's neck accidentally kissing her. You froze realising and moved back "Shuri I'm sorry...". "Don't be" she said and brought your face closer so she could kiss you. You kissed her back so relieved she was still here and that she had come back to you but you had to be sure. You separated and looked at her "Shuri...what does this mean? What about you needing an heir?". "I don't care" she laughed "I figured there's no point fretting over the next line. I should just work on making my reign the best I can and I'll need you beside me to do that". You blushed "you will?". Shuri nodded "I love you y/n" which after a year of not hearing made you cry. Shuri quickly wrapped her arms around you and apologised for everything. "I promise to never shut you out again y/n" she told you and you nodded "I believe you". After that things settled down nicely. The city was restored and everyone moved back home, A big party was thrown and you danced all night. Nakia left shortly after and Shuri went to visit. After she'd been there a day she invited you to come too. Okoye was just as confused as you so you gathered this wasn't planned but went as Shuri had asked you to. You could tell Nakia and Shuri had something to tell you from the second you saw them. You could read Shuri like a book and she had her secret-keeping face on. It didn't take long though, the second you entered Nakia's house you spotted a child. You didn't take much notice of him, you knew Nakia owned a school so figured he was from that but the way Shuri and Nakia kept looking at him told you he was something more. Nakia called him over and Shuri smiled "Y/n...this is my nephew Toussaint. Toussaint this is my girlfriend y/n". You paused and looked from Shuri to Nakia "nephew? As in...". Shuri nodded "now we know why Nakia was absent while we were saving the world". You chuckled and then smiled at the small child "it's nice to meet you Toussaint". "You too" he smiled back and you looked at Shuri "he's got his smile". She nodded "I know" and her eyes filled with tears. You grabbed her hand and she clung to you tightly. You had a lovely afternoon with Nakia, Toussaint and Shuri but there was one question on your mind though. When you were alone in your room you turned to Shuri. "I have to ask...did you only get back together with me because you knew about Nakia and Toussaint?". Shuri shook her head "I promise I didn't. After I lost my mother something just broke and I needed you. I realised there was no point putting the throne first, I couldn't rule if I wasn't functioning and I needed you for that so if the throne wanted me it would have to accept all of me including you. I figured I could adopt or appoint an heir or who knows maybe even invent a way for us to...if you wanted kids of course" she said blushing "but the point is I want you y/n. It's not that Nakia solved my problem or it was convenient. I'm nothing without you". You blushed feeling the exact same way you did when you channelled a huge storm but this was all Shuri. You took her hand still looking down "I'm nothing without you either...so never break up with me again!" you said sternly. Shuri blushed but nodded "I promise" and kissed you.
________
So I saw Black Panther 2 last week and of course came home and started writing for it but the one thing that bugged me about the plot is how they never built a device to zap all of Namor’s people and just stun them. Surely that’d be your first move when fighting people from the ocean? But they didn’t do that so I created a mutant who could instead.
Princess! (Shuri fluff)
Hey guys! so this is my first ever fic on here, and it's up on Wattpad too, if you wanna read it there! Please do reblog/ comment and gimme feedback :D I'd love to hear it!
Word count: 1100 Warning: Menstruation, some sexual stuff referenced (about T'Challa), puking Characters: Shuri, T'Challa, Ramonda, T'Chaka
Tumblr media
~
"Get off my bed, bighead!"
T'Challa playfully tackled his sister as her dirt-clad self rolled around in his once-well-made bed, refusing to go. Pillows lay randomly on the floor where they had landed after either missing or hitting either sibling. The mud stains, which particularly annoyed the older brother, stood out sorely against the white sheets.
The Prince might have been too old for pillow fights (over 31 in fact,) but he couldn't help but return the twelve-year-old's taunts.
He had finally got hold of another pillow that was soft enough to safely attack his sister with: THUMP! it flopped on her head, flattening her already out-of-shape afro. She shrieked, curling into a ball against the onslaught of the pillow. Giggling endlessly, she suffered only a few more hits until... they stopped. A moment passed before she finally had to curiously peek from under her head to see if it was a trap.
T'Challa had lowered the weapon and was scratching his beard with a faint smile on his face. Shuri was puzzled to her core.
"What happened?"
"I'll tell you if you don't get too cocky about it." T'Challa rolled his neck.
"I'll make sure to be cocky. Go on,"
Her brother sighed. "You got your first period."
~
"YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEah!"
"Shuri, slow down..." "Yes, take some rest,"
The child's parents tried to calm her down from her two-hour-long euphoric episode. T'Challa sat at the table too, chuckling as he watched his baby sister have the zoomies around the dining room.
"Rest is for peasants. I'm a Princess now." She paused only for a second before leaping onto a nearby chair and somersaulting down (like her Mama had taught her).
"SHURI-" Ramonda's eyes widened. "I've told you not to do that indoors!"
"Sorry mama..." the girl exited, now jumping onto furniture that lay out of their sight.
T'Challa sighed for the third time that day. "Baba, would you consider upping the age for Royal titles?"
T'Chaka smiled weakly. "It's tradition, my son... it's not of much use, but it has never done any harm, has it?"
"But maybe the belief about puberty making Royal children more mature about their titles isn't necessarily true?" Ramonda chipped in, ladling some steaming stew into her bowl. "Children don't really change that quickly..." She gazed through the intricate wooden screen at her daughter happily frolicking, albeit a little slower now.
"Maybe. They are more likely to... take it to the head." The King murmured, eyeing his son.
The Prince exaggerated an expression of betrayal. "Baba I was the nicest child ever! Not like her..."
"I HEARD THAT!" Shuri called from outside.
T'Chaka chuckled. "Nicest child, huh? Is that why you got a boyfriend the week after you became a Prince?"
"He's still bitter about that..." Ramonda whispered mischievously, passing her son the soup.
"I'm not bitter: It's just that this good boy just disregarded my advice the moment he hit puberty... I was scared that you would become rebellious!"
T'Challa rolled his eyes ever so slightly. "Baba which other father in Wakanda tells his son that boyfriends are only for after sixteen?"
"The kind of father who knows that every part of his son's public life matters when he upholds his reputation as a King."
"It wasn't public..."
"- It will be once you drift apart, T'Challa..." his mother pointed out. "You can't expect that one person you dated in eighth grade to keep everything he knew about you, private.... especially not when you're the regular talk of the town."
The Prince shrugged, biting into a piece of buttery flatbread. "I guess... except for the fact that we hooked up again a few weeks ago."
His parents exhaled in unison, their greying eyebrows rising as their eyes rolled. The Prince giggled into his mouthful of food.
"Really? While we're eating?"
"What-? What do you think we did?"
"You just said 'hook up', what else does it mean?"
"I'm more concerned about the 'again'... you two were just thirteen when you dated," T'Chaka half-whispered, with his face lined with concern.
"Baba..." T'Challa groaned " 'again' means that I had done it a month ago too!"
"Done what?" Shuri beamed, trotting in.
"Done his dinner, unlike you," Ramonda answered, gesturing at the seat beside T'Challa's.
"It's definitely not that," Shuri sassed, but obeyed her mother for once, "why are you keeping secrets from me?"
"It's no secret..." her brother nonchalantly waved the second piece of flatbread.
"This is why I sometimes get concerned, T'Challa..." T'Chaka sighed.
"That he eats dinner?" Shuri injected.
"No, sister, Baba thinks that I have too many boyfriends."
The girl shrugged. "I mean, you do... this is the third time I said hello to a new, muscular guy this week."
Ramonda stuffed her face with some curry to not laugh.
"Be quiet, it's only three." T'Challa defended, trying not to laugh as well.
"Only three- you know what? Let us stop talking about your boyfriends and eat in peace."
The family complied, quieting down and switching to a less controversial subject.
"Remember our visit to the University?"
"Oh yes, and the b- oh no..."
Ramonda rose from her seat as Shuri began gagging all of a sudden-
"I- can't eat!" the poor girl teared up from the reflex and stumbled out of her seat.
T'Chaka and his son stopped eating, cringing sympathetically as the Princess retched into the sink outside. Her mother rubbed her back and called for some lemon and medicine to be brought to soothe the nausea.
"It's okay, it's okay... it's normal." They could hear her say.
"Ughh...." Shuri croaked as she returned after a while to the dining room. "I'm not looking forward to being a princess,"
"There are so many things that will help you feel better, umtwana..." her father reassured her, "You'll be able to get into a routine as you get older."
"Yes, and you'll know what to keep ready, so that the effects won't be as bad."
"And you'll have people to do it for you if you're busy," T'Challa added, warmly hugging her with his free arm.
Shuri sighed. "Okay... but I still can't eat."
"A soup is being made for you right now, and it isn't too strongly flavored. You'll be fine." Her Mama smiled, patting her head.
The Princess returned it faintly before climbing onto her brother's seat and curling up next to him.
"Are you going to sleep here?" The Prince continued his loud munching, resuming his duty to annoy his sister.
"Mm." came a reply that he had no choice but to accept. The Black Panther he may be, but he never dared to disturb his sister once she fell asleep.
The crickets chirped as the night settled again. It was only at the end of the meal that T'Challa woke Shuri up so that she could check out  Wakanda's best night pads of all time.
To the shawties asking me for more Euphoria smut fics... (And imma hold your hand when I say this, with love and care)
No✨😌
The reason I only wrote Fezco fics was because he was the only person depicted in the show as my age range (early 20's) and Angus Cloud (may he rest in peace) was fine as hell to me. I would and will never write smut about any other character in that show.
Also I have my own extremely different beliefs about death and on what you bring back though the intentions of your actions that are a mix of being Black Pentecostal and other things of spirituality/my personal work that I don't feel safe explaining here.
Those beliefs just stop me from writing Fezco fics in the way I've been doing due to Angus Death (same thing happen with T'Challa fics after Chadwick's death of you noticed that). I quite literally draw a mind blank when it comes to writing those characters in a certain way because I've been raised and still believe a certain way when it comes to thinking and portraying the recently dead or those of meaningful worth's to you's death.
Like yeah, I will write about those characters again one day (I still do character study pieces about them even) but it will be in a more detached manner and probably won't happen for a while due to my personal grief in losing those people who were meaningful too me (and I don't wanna hear it about how they were actors I never meet, that still provided meaning and connection to me with their great work and attitude they put out into the world)
If you like my smut writing, please just re-read what I've already posted. Just search for Master list or Playlist or Black Girl Reader on my blog and I promise you, you will find it. I also write stuff that isn't smut so you may request that as well!
Wakanda's Princess
Nakia's pregnant with T'Challa's daughter. What will these two do with the new princess?
Tumblr media
Chapter 2: Introductions and Discoveries
T'Challa brought the curious girl within the palace, leading up to the throne room where his mother awaited.
He stood, greeting her royally before standing straight. "My son.", Queen Mother greeted with a kind smile.
T'Challa returned it. "I have someone I want you to meet.", he says. The older woman raised an eyebrow. Usually, he was up to his light, little schemes he and his sister occasionally played on their mother, but he seemed… happy. Happier than usual, actually.
T'Challa looked over his shoulder, watching as the small girl behind him peeked around him at the older woman before him. Queen Mother's head tilted in curiosity.
The young girl's features caught her eyes, however. Her shy smile gave way of her dimples that she knew so well. Though she questioned it, her mother's intuition was never wrong.
A softened smile played on her lips as she looked at her son. "She's grown so big. Why am I just meeting her?", she asked.
It was like T'Challa to hide something so big from her. "Actually, you'd have to ask Nakia. I had just found out today as well.", the prince admitted.
The older woman's eyes laid on the shy girl once more, watching as she looked around timidly. She reminded her of her when she was her age. The throne room was definitely intimidating, very big and very important. She was sure the girl felt out of place.
Queen Mother sucked her teeth in slight disapproval of her favorite spy's behavior of keeping this secret for so long. "I'll have a talk with her soon. For now, I want to know about my grandchild.", she says, smiling at T'Kia.
T'Kia gave her a smile, stepping around her father and stepping up to her grandmother.
T'Challa smiled proudly, and left them alone. He went down to his sister's lab, informing her of their mother's delight.
He was still nerved about having a daughter– no, a child at all. He wasn't prepared, but he did not regret meeting her in the slightest; no matter how late.
"You haven't stopped smiling yet.", he hears Shuri say. "Your niece is to thank for that. Mother is talking to her at this moment.", he responds, making his sister's eyes widen.
"Already? How'd that go?", Shuri asked. He could only shrug. His mother loved the girl the moment her eyes landed on her and he could just tell.
"It's wonderful that she knows.", T'Challa says. Though, as he looked at her projects. She was in the middle of making another suit for the Dora Milaje, except… this suit was a little smaller.
"You're already preparing her??", he asked. Shuri nods. "She's been training since the age of 10. It was her choice."
T'Challa frowned. Her choice? She wants to fight? He supposed she already had her mother's fighting spirit, but this early? It wasn't apparent to him. She was so shy compared to the women's behavior.
"She'll be fine.", Shuri says. "You were fine when you first started to train. You still need practice but, y'know.", Shuri laughs.
T'Challa frowns then smiles. "I still need practice?", he asked.
"You get distracted sometimes. It's about time you stop that.", she says, putting things away.
T'Challa scoffs. "I don't."
"You do too. And you know it.", she says, smiling back.
The older brother rolled his eyes and the siblings stopped as they heard their mother arriving.
Shuri grinned as she saw her mother and niece's smiling faces. T'Kia looked less shy now, which relieved Shuri greatly.
"Mother, you never come down here.", Shuri greeted and hugged her mother.
"Can't I come see my own daughter?", Queen mother asks.
T'Challa chuckled and looked at his daughter. "Ingaba uye wayonwabela?"
T'Kia nods, smiling at him. "I heard that she wants to fight with the Dora Milaje.", Queen Mother says, making the girl look at the woman in disbelief.
"Umkhulu!", she exclaims. "Shuri already prepared a suit for her.", T'Challa confessed.
T'kia eyes sparkled with excitement as she looked over the suit. Her very own suit.
T'Challa walks up to her. "In due time, you'll be queen." T'Kia frowns. "I don't think I'm up for that, Baba.", she says.
T'Challa's eyebrow raises. "And why not?"
"I want to stay a Princess. I don't think I could be Queen.", she says.
Queen Mother smiles. "It is a lot of work. But it is worth it to see your people smile and be safe."
"And plus, I can't be Queen. Your father already had to be king.", Shuri says, with an emphasis of wide eyes.
Shuri moves around her brother and places her hands on her niece's shoulders. "You're going to find a boy to love soon and–"
T'Challa stops her. "Wait, wait, wait. Do not tell her that.", he says, frowning deeply.
Shuri rolls her eyes. "Okay, not too soon, but as you get older.", she explains.
"Better.", T'Challa adds.
Queen Mother shakes her head and chuckles.
"Do I have to?", T'Kia asks, much to her father's appreciation.
"That's exactly the mindset I want you to have, Princess.", T'Challa says, smiling. "Not at the moment, but when you're ready."
T'Kia smiles in relief. She's seen the boys in the village, up to the middle of the city, to the palace. Not one has caught her eye yet.
She turns back to the suit in her arms before turning to her father. "Can I try it on?", she asks.
He sighs and nods. It couldn't hurt.
The girl smiles and goes to try it on. She admired the strength of the Dora Milaje. Their strong statures, their useful agility and quickness. It was amazing to watch at first, but to be trained by them, especially Okoye, she was excited.
As she walked back to the lab, the adults' eyes peered at her with surprise. Shuri squealed, rushing to hug her niece, "It fits! Thank goodness."
T'Kia smiles and hugs her back. "Thank you for this.", she says.
Shuri pinched her cheeks, grinning. "Now, you're ready."
Queen Mother walked up to her granddaughter, placing a hand on the girl's shoulder. "You wear this with pride. Pride, honor, and responsibility."
T'Kia stood straight and nodded. "Yes, my Queen.", she says.
T'Challa smiled proudly. For now, he had nothing to worry about.
The adults left the girl to explore after changing out of her uniform. She was introduced to her room that was next to her father's room.
"T'Kia!", the girl heard a familiar voice in the hall and left her room to see her mother.
"Mother!", she ran to hug her as Nakia hugged her back.
"Where's your father and what are you up to….?", she asks.
"I think he's still in Aunt Shuri's lab. I got my first suit for the Dora Milaje!", T'Kia says with pride.
Nakia smiled. "I'm happy for you. And so proud. You've become so strong, it's amazing."
T'Kia grins. "I have you to thank for that.", she says and gives her mother a tight hug. Nakia returns the hug and sighs. The girl has come a long way.
Though, she wasn't there for most of it. She was always on missions, so she was sure she missed a lot. It displeased her, but it was a relief to see her daughter so happy to be a warrior. Much more of a relief to know her royal family loved and quickly accepted her.
"Okay, I'll go talk to him. You be careful and behave.", she said and went about her way.
T'Kia looks at her father's room and walked inside, looking around. She came across a desk, cluttered with weird articles of paper on his desk.
'King T'Chaka Dead At The Scene Leaving Prince T'Challa and all of Wakanda In Shock'
T'Kia frowns. She didn't see articles like that here…
Everyone knew. It was a horrible thing to know, but it wasn't just broadcasted like a critical weather report.
It was… disrespectful to see it as some measly, random citizen that had died. It was more than that. It was more to T'Kia. She had never met the man and she wished she had sooner.
She couldn't imagine how heartbroken her grandmother was, much less her father who had to watch.
As she finished looking over the articles, she quickly left, frowning in sadness.
"Your Highness, what were you doing in there….?", she hears Okoye and freezes in her spot as she had just been caught.
T'Kia frowns at the warrior, not saying a word. "What's the matter??", Okoye asked.
"I just don't understand. How could they just broadcast my grandfather's death as if it was something to just get over?", T'Kia whispered.
Okoye frowned. Everyone in Wakanda knew that death wasn't the end, which was understandable as to why the princess was confused with the simplicity of America's tradition to just move on.
"I didn't even get to know him. It's not fair…", T'Kia muttered in sadness.
Shuri walks up to them as if on cue. "What's going on?", she asks.
"She's upset over King T'Chaka's death.", Okoye whispers to the older princess.
"Ohh." Shuri looks down at her niece. "Saw something you didn't like, didn't you….?", she asked and T'Kia nodded.
Okoye sighed. "Even though you never knew the King, he didn't know about you and didn't even have time to come home. He…didn't have the chance to. I'm sure he would've loved to meet you", she explained.
"Your father was busy as well. A lot has happened, so it may not have been too much of a disappointment to you until now.", Shuri says.
"So, does that mean that America is dangerous?", T'Kia asked. Shuri and Okoye looked at each other before looking back at the young princess. "Not entirely. At least, from what my brother has told me.", Shuri says.
She walks up to T'Kia. "But Americans are selfish at times which is why our weapons, our technology, everything we own including the nation is to be hidden under any circumstances. Do you understand?"
T'Kia nodded firmly and the two walked into her room. T'Kia laid down on her bed. She had to think this through. She wanted to know more.
"Curtains open or closed…?", Shuri asked.
"Closed, please.", T'Kia said.
Shuri activated her curtains to close and to reveal purple and white tiny stars around the girl's room, creating a galaxy atmosphere.
"Next time you want to go snooping, bring me with you.", she says and leaves with Okoye.
"I wish to be like Baba….strong, dependable, reliable….I'm not any of those things…", T'Kia whispered to herself before falling asleep with a small tear escaping her eye.
Hours later, she wakes up to see her father sleep in a chair and her curtains pulled back making her room engulfed in orange sunlight.
"Baba…", she softly called.
T'Challa woke up and looked at her with a small smile.
"You're awake.", he said and sat up.
"And in trouble, right?", T'Kia asked.
He sighed and closed his eyes. "You're not exactly in trouble…", he said. "Just a scolding…and an explanation.", he says.
She frowned slightly.
"So, no more snooping in my room. As you saw, you found something you did not like.", he said and T'Kia nodded.
"As for your grandfather…. I've stuck with him for a while. Just mere hours ago, I was informed that you existed. I didn't know your mother had you. She ran away with Shuri helping her with you, so I was busy with your grandfather.", he explained.
"So, you went outside of Wakanda and he died.", T'Kia says.
"He was killed. Purposely.", he says. "Someone had the intent of killing him. I didn't see who it was but I think I know who it was.", he says with a deadly expression.
T'Kia frowned in thought. "Baba… Will you take me outside of Wakanda…?", she asked.
His eyebrows rose. "To America, you mean?"
His daughter nodded.
He frowned and closed his eyes for a moment, sighing.
"Alright.", he said suddenly. They weren't going there to fight, no matter how "ready" she was. Just a quick visit. Nothing more. "I'll take you. Only because I know you will find some way of going anyways.", he says, smiling.
T'Kia hugged him and laughed. "Thank you."
T'Kia frowned mentally. The man who killed her grandfather and almost destroyed her family has only waged war.
"You move too much," W'Kabi teases. "I heard Okoye hardly twitched when they gave her her tattoos."
"Hush!" Okoye hisses. "Leave T'Challa alone."
T'Challa smiles into the pillow. "Okoye hardly feels a spear pressed to her breast, of course she didn't move. You would sob, ubhuti, I know it."
"Sob?" W'Kabi asks. "I have my tattoos. I never sobbed."
"No?" T'Challa returns. "You had scars. It is the bone char which flares the pain more."
"Ah. The bone char," W'Kabi says, "Perhaps it is the panther's way of telling you, 'Prince, you have used me for your own vanity, how dare you!'"
