RWBY Analysis: semblances reflect a major struggle within the character
-Hazel's Numbing Agent to repress pain doesn't work to block out the emotional pain of losing Gretchen, nor does it stop him from taking damage especially via his self-inflicted Dust wounds, paralleling the self destructive choice to side with Salem
-Tyrian disrupts Aura just as he disrupts order
-Neo's Semblance allows her to appear like other people, as she has always struggled with her sense of identity... Neo's semblance is a direct link to neglect and underdevelopment. Being isolated most of her youth she began making her own "friends"  in the form of imaginary ones. As she had an undeveloped voice box her semblance took a "mime-like" approach where she voiced herself through it.
-Neptune's Semblance allows him to manipulate his biggest fear, water, but he is letting that fear consume him rather than taking control
-Mettle puts Ironwood into a tunnel-vision mindset to achieve his goals no matter what, reflecting his "I know what's best" downfall
-Harriet's speed reflects her acting irrationally, and sometimes too quick for her own good, automatically taking orders at face value without taking the time to consider their consequences, opposite Marrow who would opt to slow down, akin to his Semblance
-Maria's Preflexes allow her to 'see it coming', only for her to lose her actual seeing ability
-Marcus Black put an end to Semblances, much like he would put ends to lives, only for his own life to be ended by Mercury, who he also ended the Semblance of
-Sienna's Grudge makes things go better for her when things go poorly for those around her, reflecting her desire to improve the White Fang by being more violent
-Fox's Semblance lets him create a private communication with the rest of CFVY, letting him find a connection to this new family after losing all of his old one
-Nora's ability to power up via lightning strikes reflects on how she acts bubbly around everyone else, but much like the recoil damage the lightning does, she's very insecure and a bit self-destructively impulsive (in that she's VERY willing to jump into danger) underneath.
-Ruby breaks herself apart in order to move as fast as possible and carry others
-Weiss's is hereditary and represents her struggle asserting her own identity
-Blake leaves behind versions of herself while attempting to dodge the pain, and reflects her fear of others getting hurt in her stead
-Yang has to endure pain and take hits in order to come back stronger, reflecting how she's had to carry the burden of her family since childhood
-Pyrrha attracts others but at the same time can't get close to anyone (they always keep a bit of a distance)
 -Ren represses his feelings
-Jaune had to accept not being the hero but being a support character that lifts others up instead
-Adam lets others get hurt for his own gain
-Qrow loves others but his history won't let him get too close with them
-Meanwhile Raven has the opportunity to be with loved ones at any time, but chooses not to when it's practically screaming at her to do so
-Emerald sees things that aren't there (Thinking Cinder loves her)
-Cinder was put under so much pressure and was re-molded into a deadly weapon... Cinder's being called "scorching caress" as a reference to how the people who were supposed to love her only brought her pain

Yas, Salem
Hey peeps!
I was going through my Incorrect Quotes Folder and saw this:
Tumblr media
And immediately thought of Salem and Team WTCH.
This was actually my first time drawing Salem, Hazel, Tyrian, and Watts! I think they all turned out pretty well, too :D
Salem’s axolotl hair thingys were especially fun

HAHA! You thought team RWBY was dangerous with the relics, you should see these guys instead. I wonder what they’ll get for three usages or so… let alone their reactions to seeing the spirit that resides within~
Also if I blasted these designs on T-shirts with the same price RT does for their basic T-shirts which is like $34.95 would you buy it? XD

RWBY Saints of Remnant Notes: Arthur Gray(Watts); Mad Scientist, Unethical Businessman, and Conniving Rat
Tumblr media
Part of The Emperor-Verse
Now this follows up my AU Jacques Schnee and SDC and my AU Adam Taurus, which focuses on their common foe, Dr. Arthur Gray aka Arthur Watts.
I honestly loved Arthur regardless of my gripes with the FNDM's appraisal of him, his design, personality, his color palette, and weapons(neat pistol and rings) hit all the right notes for me and I do feel he along the rest of WTCH didn't really meet their full potential from what I've seen, Cinder and Hazel I have more unorthodox ideas for.
But for Arthur? I feel like the 'Mad Scientist' thing wasn't explored enough, and back when this was a V3 reboot, I had Arthur manipulating Jacques into hating the Faunus(framing the White Fang for his wife's death) but now with the hard reboot and remember Arthur's motivation in canon got my noggin jogging
What if instead of the SDC being the corrupt big business, Arthur had his own mega corporation that was part of the corrupt North instead, and part of something even more sinister?
Thus, I came up with his AU Counterpart, Dr. Arthur Gray, genius roboticist, biologist, and CEO of GigaWatts Incorporated and The Grand Master of the Northern Rite of the mysterious Freemason-Like fraternal organization The Lumen Society ran by Grand Mistress, Professor Salem.
Basically, GWI has taken over most of Atlas in the sense of supplying companies with tech, their own high tech products ranging from domestic, law enforcement, security, and even medicine.
Even Atlas Council and top brass of Atlas military are hiring Arthur to develop their military tech. Despite James Ironwood's protests and continuous vouching for Dr. Polendina instead, who he is supporting in his own department.
Not to mention, the factories are known for unethical labor practices towards faunus, which gives Arthur brownie points for the anti-faunus sentiment in the North, along with countless of corporate CEOs vying to make deals with him and his seemingly wondrous technology.
And with the link to my AU Jacques Schnee link, this corporate machine is crushing smaller companies, SDC among them, under its grey steel boot
Basically, GigaWatts Incorporated is like OCP from Robocop
Tumblr media
And even then that itself is nothing for the more unholy role it has for The Lumen Society, or its true name...
The satanic cult known as The Brotherhood Grimm. Whom Arthur's role is developing technology and occult research as they plot to resurrect The Black Empire that nearly destroyed the world in Ragnarok thousands of years ago with Salem as its Black Empress
But we'll get to that later
Arthur is currently tasked to recover an ancient ritual to “transcend” humans and Faunus into “The Grimmborne” or as Arthur calls “The Objective Man”(a reference to CS Lewis's That Hideous Strength)
And with Cinder infiltrating Beacon Academy as a teacher, Arthur finds a team he believe are suitable for experimentation. Though there is complications I will get to later.
He's the same as his Canon!Counterpart in many ways, snobbish, arrogant, passive aggressive(which I intend to show in the pissing contests he gets in with Jacques) but among some things, some which I will leave out for another post, he represents hyper-rationality, pragmatism and luciferian mind and the modern obsession to rationalize everything and destroy anything that can't.
"The poet only asks to get his head into the heavens. It is the logician who seeks to get the heavens into his head. And it is his head that splits." - GK Chesterton, Orthodoxy (1908)
You see, Dr. Gray hates personal and subjective feelings and certain emotions and the concept of the supernatural. He sees them as icky and disgusting things that sully intelligent and rational minds and their judgement of intelligence and "worthiness" instead of basing such things such as statistics, logistics, scientific method and what else he deems to be "real information", and he absolutely despises the concept of The Stoyteller and The Author Allfather as "Ancient Superstition" and he honestly hates both humans and faunus saying "both are subjective animals" which the Grimmborne aka "The Objective Man" shall replace.
He basically uses anti-faunus sentiment in the North to "keep the monkeys fighting each other" while he uses his tech and company as a means to get The Brotherhood's tentacles in The North
And when it comes to Jacques Schnee. There's very bitter history between the two, and Arthur may had some involvement with Mrs. Schnee's death. But Jack has no evidence. And even if he did, the majority councilmen and upper-class North are so corrupt Arthur is pretty much untouchable.
Now his allusion, he has two which is why I changed his last name.
His primary allusion is James Moriarty from the Sherlock Holmes novels, but his secondary allusion is The Rat King from The Nutcracker and rat, mousetraps, and mazes are recurring theme with him and his aesthetic along some steampunk. Cuz rats have grey fur and grey is Arthur’s primary color.
It’s also to note he is something of a connoisseur of wine and cheese.
But combining James Moriarty and The Rat King, Arthur also alludes Professor Ratigan of the children's novels The Great Mouse Detective which was also adapted into a Disney Movie(and one of my favorites), and like him, he hates being called a rat among other things, but I'll save that for the story.
Tumblr media
and tidbits of Weston from CS Lewis’s Ransom Trilogy(Out of The Silent Planet, and Perelandra) and CA Rotwang from Metropolis but that will come later when I introduce his 'daughter' Maria Gray(which those who know the movie can guess who she is)
Now for his semblance, I call it "electrified malice" which he can channel his repressed disgust, resentment, rage, hate, distain, and while lotta suppressed emotions into lethal green electric energy which he can direct either everywhere from his body like a live wire or from his hands ala Sith Lightning(I mean he is like Palpatine in a way)
Tumblr media
The problem is, once he focuses in either spot and his emotions are intense enough, he becomes drunk with his malice which in turn takes him a while to stop, which will cost him dearly in the long run.
You'll see.

Pet headcannons because I said so.
Hazel would have dogs. Like a HOUSE FULL of dogs of various sizes and breeds. Yes they're allowed to sleep in the bed with papa every night
Watts would have just about anything he could properly keep contained in a cage or habitat, like small rodents, reptiles, amphibians, and bugs.
Cinder would have a sleek black cat to match her attitude and aesthetic.
Tyrian...probably shouldn't be trusted with anything more needy than a houseplant.

as someone who isnt even an adam fan
the untapped potential he had will still be the funniest thing in the world because you had:
A faunus who'd mentored/dated one of the main girls,
was enslaved/branded under the name of another main girl's family company,
and permanently crippled and haunted another main girl.
(and in my own theories he had some connection to the roses. maybe while raven and summer were dicking around on their special girls' night, they met adam and taught him or whatever)
Of the 4 main girls, 3 of them had direct ties to Adam. He could have served as a much bigger, more threatening main antagonist while Salem and Cinder were gearing up for their own role. Even if he isn't connected to the plot of "4 maidens, 4 relics, 4 nations" it would have at LEAST given the girls an adversary that they knew, rather than forcing them to fight Salem and Team WTCH (since, out of them all, only Cinder has been a direct threat to them. Everyone else they've only sort of met in passing or DIED before even meeting the team)
like it wouldve been great for weiss' arc of "i want to restore my family name and turn the schnees into something they can be proud of" (or whatever her smoke said) if she'd seen Adam's SDC brand
(and if he'd been connected to summer or been a silver eyed warrior then he and ruby would have some stuff to beef out over)

Hello, a question about the artbook. I remember seeing one of your posts about a map of remnant and their concept names, is it alright to know them? And where can I buy the artbook? Thank you.
Hi! Thanks for the ask.
I'll answer the second question first. I got my copy of the art book from the Crunchyroll store, and it looks like it's still available there:
RWBY art book on the Crunchyroll store
Just in case you haven't seen one of the posts where I mention it: the majority of the book's text is in Japanese, including the interviews with CRWBY.
The concept map of Remnant with the place names on it is interesting, it's just definitely not entirely accurate with where places turned out to be in RWBY.
But with that caveat out of the way, sure, I'm happy to share them. Some are tricky to make out because the map's text is tiny (bonus pic of the napkin with sauce stains that inspired the map):

Detailed pics and transcribed place names under a read more cut:
In alphabetical order by kingdom/country:

The FNDM has fittingly named Salem's minions Team WTCH (Watts, Tyrian, Cinder, Hazel) Em and Merc sadly don't get to sit at the big kid's table now though.
I like that and shall be adopting it as well.

Maiden hunters again: so what changes did you make to team wtch backstories since they're all young women now? Does Watts have any kind of History with Pietro like being a disgraced apprentice and what about Tyrian were they just a young teenage psycho serial killer? Hazel's kind of a no brainer since revenge isn't heavily reliant on age. How do these four women get along if at all? I'm genuinely curious where you're going with this.
Watts' video is already out, so if you're curious you can watch it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mc83bYtn2CM
I will say though that I kinda forgot Pietro existed (as per usual), but I think your 'disgraced apprentice' idea is a great one. ^^ Pietro could conceivably be 10 or 20 years older than Watts, so it's possible; and I do love 'bitter/jealous/hubristic apprentice' storylines. I wish I had thought of that...
As for the rest:
-Still trying to figure out what to do with Tyrian, tbh...my focus is on developing MH!WTCH as foils to Team RWBY, so I'm trying to work out what her take would be on the issue of Faunus discrimination (a take that strangely does not exist for the canon version...)
-As for Hazel...something something comparing Hazel & Gretchen's sibling bond to Yang & Ruby's...
-I think they'd get along about as well as the canon article. ^^; But in a perfect world, unlike the canon article, they would actually...interact on a regular basis. Watts would scoff and snipe at everyone constantly; Tyrian would get the group into trouble with her kill-first-ask-questions-later methodology; Cinder would give the orders and try (and fail) to get the others to respect her leadership; Hazel would try her best to protect everyone and keep the peace. If they were in a real show, I'd love to watch them~

Unpopular RWBY Opinions
Some of these things are incorporated into my reimagined RWBY AU(not all of them) and my original stories
1. Arkos, BlackSun, Iceberg, and Renora should have survived and get a happy ending, I don’t give a damn about Pyrrha’s name or allusion.
2. RWBY didn’t have to be a super dark epic, it’s become pretentious. Maybe more akin to Star Wars or Justice League Unlimited
3. Adam should have just been an initial antagonist who doesn't commit super horrible things, the psycho abusive ex was melodramatic and dumb. Wether he joins the good guys or ends tragically is up to anybody.
4. Maybe we were better off without the Salem/Ozma conflict and have WTCH as individual arc villains with their own minions
5. I think Roman, Cinder, and their gang should have been just morally grey found family characters like Boba Fett, some kind of gang of thieves akin to those in Baccano or something and just help or hinder the cast like Team Rocket or something but not as silly.
With Cinder and Roman becoming a couple and kinda like a "Gomez and Mortica" pair and Emerald and Merc hooking up, and Emerald and Neo would be like their daughters and Merc the son-in-law. I might recycle that idea for one of my original stories thats inspired by Skullgirls and Baccano who's protagonist sis something of an Anti-Cinder and an Anti-Torchwick with a ragtag gang fighting against a corrupt government run by a demonic-powered mafia.
6. Maybe RWBY could have been more like a Dragonball/Fairy Tail universe instead in terms of tone and narrative structure, and that wouldn’t have been a bad thing.
7. At the very least, Ozma and Salem could have been an explanation of the origin of the world and just something that would be rediscovered overtime and Ozpin and his circle are some keepers of ancient myth or something. Like The Jedi Order or The Time Lords or something idk.
8. Kinda feel Oscar wasn’t necessary, as much as I like him
9. Maybe the corrupt SDC and Bad Dad Jacques was also needless, maybe just one of the few good underdog companies in Atlas and Jack being initially a bit too hard on Weiss due to upholding the family’s honor and chivalry but means well and initial harsh nature involving his wife, a scientist who worked with Dr.Watts and Dr. Poldenia, being murdered at the hands of an anti-Faunus milita group and Watts having some role in it. Mostly because I'm just exhausted of the "Bad Dad" trope
10. Have Watts have a megacorporation and be the corrupt company in Atlas instead who’s responsible for their tech and uses unethical Faunus labor in his factories(even though in secret Watts just hates everybody) instead and have a bitter rivalry with Jacques and The SDC, especially due to Jack and Arthur’s personal history regarding Mrs.Schnee.
11. Hazel should have just been a Meta-Knight like character, a good guy but on nobody’s side with a grudge against Ozpin for understandable reasons, he has bear claw-like gauntlet weapons, and becomes a rival to Yang seeing his sister in her and is the “Papa Bear” to her “Goldilocks”
12. Bumbleby is a bad ship and it’s fandom are filled with bitter shrews who use it as representation despite how toxic it is.
13. Disagreeing with Monty’s vision isn’t inherently malicious.
14. I agree with @sytokun making Blake basically a Princess and have loving parents who are also influential was also dumb. Make her an Orphan with the WF/Team RWBY her found family instead. Or I would at least give her a “dead dad” with her Mom living in Menagerie but not as a “Chieftess” aka a QUEEN. They called themselves Cheiftan and Chieftess because it sounded cute.
