Something different for a change, this time a platoon of 15mm scale tanks from Flames of War WW3: Team Yankee. Was getting tired of painting just warhammer and bought an M1 Abrams box earlier this year as a present to myself. All of them are built as M1A1 variants.

A real treat to paint due to the small scale. Wanted to do NATO 3-color camouflage but after two failed attempts at it I went with a basic dark green hull. I looked up a bunch of images from the old REFORGER exercises and went with that instead.

Would've wanted them to be more loaded with gear, but the kit only came with a few boxes and jerry cans when I wanted some rucksacks and tarps too. But I couldn't find any stowage kits that I wouldn't have to pay a whole bunch for in either shipping or import taxes. Wouldn't have minded some Ace Combat decals too, but those are also only available outside of the EU. Whoopee. :v

Because I had goofed up the assembly a little with the first tank it turned into a painting test bed just so see how things would pan out.

Most important lessons I learned was that while dry brushing the hull looks good, it's also not that fun to do and you go through a ton of paint too in the process. Secondly, any pintle mounts and antennas go on last.

Want to paint more, considering getting M109 Paladins in the future. But then there's also have Strv 103s in the game, and only fools would say no to those.

I actually wrote something, because it's New Year and I want my little blog to come back!

I keep forgetting this blog exists, how rude is that? 2023 was a bit of a sad year for my little corner of the internet, I admit that I let it gather dust for a bit, but hear me out, for my reasons are wholesome! See, I was working on some short stories for an upcoming anthology (that’s right, more published stories, wahoo!) and have also been working on a more long-form WIP that’s been festering…

To start off, the T72B. At the time of writing, the T72B was one of the newer units added to Team Yankee for the Warsaw Pact. The unit is one of Poland’s better units, or so I am told. Basically it has survivability which compliment’s the elite stats the Polish have in game. During List tailoring, I was debating whether to include this unit along side some T55s. After talking with some players, I decided to just take the T72B. Hopefully they will work well with my Motorized troops.  Now to the technical stuff. For starters, you may have noticed some Milliput on the vehicles. This was done to hide some imperfections caused during the printing process. For those that don’t know, Resin 3D printes use a UV light source cure the resin layer by layer. The upside of this is it means you can produce a large number of models at the same time. In FDM printing (or filament printing) the more you print on the build plate, the longer it will take to print. With this in mind, you may be wondering why resin printers aren’t as common. The reason is the Resin printers are limited in size and cost. The build area of my Voxelabs Polaris is about the size of a smart phone. Similar priced FDM printers have way more space to build. There are other things that make FDM printers better, but that’s a story for another day. Now, the UV light source. Over time that light source will start to gain dead pixels and other failures. Remember, the resin needs to be exposed to UV light. No UVs, no cured resin, print failures abound. In the case of the tanks, two of the models had pin holes. The third was dropped and gained some chip damaged. Covered them with Milliput, paint them like camo (and the Polish Flag), and say the unit are veterans that captured some camo tarps from the enemy. Its clumsy, but it works. One other little thing is sanding. Due to my settings, I might be overexposing the models. Overexposure can cause prints to be slightly bigger than they are supposed to be. There are other factors like what resin you are using. Yeah, resin printing is a science. Anyway. The turrets and machineguns had to be sanded down to better fit in the vehicles. Had some machineguns break being forced into their holes.  For paint, got a rattle can of Paprika, Heirloom white, and green camo. The idea was to incorporate red into the camo. Lore wise, the Unit is slowly getting tired of the Soviets, and are hiding the Polish flag in the camo. If the Commissars ask, the red is meant to communism. More or less an excuse to have Warsaw pact fight Warsaw pact.  So lessons learned. First, calibrate printer. Print fails might be because printer is not calibrate. Second, check the UV source. Fails might be because the source is going bad. Finally, Milliput is useful, but there are easier alternatives Next up, will be printing some OT-64 transports. Yay! For models
