#tag talk#so this guy called in to ask about renting a tractor and I was a little slow looking up the specs on our equipment and#and he was like “cmon woman lay it on me” and honestly? the highlight of my day.#being called woman >>>>> being called girl#I've been thinking a lot about how gender is cultural and even in cultures that are nominally the same they're still different over time#like how lesbians changed over time in Stone Butch Blues. and how southwestern ideals of womanhood are different from Eastern urban ideals#like.. I will never wear a skirt above my knees ever ever ever in my entire life because that's just. it feels so improper to me.#like it looks fine on other people but I remember being in 9th grade and a girl came to school in an ankle length jean skirt and just...yeah#anyway. blue collar guys seeing me even partly as a woman is just so euphoric.#I even had a guy a few days ago call me ma'am in person which felt nice though was surprising because I literally have facial hair#but yeah. I guess I've still got it. got that genderqueer swag.#also I was servicing a chainsaw today and couldn't figure out how to put the clutch cover back on and called my tech and he was like#“just leave it for me tomorrow I'll fix it” and I was like hell no and I worked it over until I realized I'd just left the clutch brake on#so loosening that let me put the cover back on and then everything worked just fine and I felt very successful#I've 100% always wanted to be good with mechanical shit but my dad was ass at teaching. he would always say he would. but then just#just do it himself without me :/#but the cool hippy dude I work with is so great at explaining everything he's so thorough and clear and he knows his shit so well#he's right wing and a bit of a trumpy but I still like him as a person even if he's got some questionable aspects of his life#he used to be a dj on the beach and still knows a ton of people from the rave scenes even though he and his wife aren't in it anymore#he always goes off to anyone who will listen about righteousness and the meaning of life and shit like that. I do like him a lot#like. I think he's a good guy just uninformed about a lot of political stuff. but I'm not about to try and have that discussion.#anyway. every day I get closer and closer to my dream of being a hot butch mechanic.

Hello, hope this is an ok ask but I was wondering if you could Omega and Fem!Reader where the reader takes an omega on a mother-daughter outing? And the boys see just how much of having a mother figure in omegas life is beneficial? Maybe omega has some attempts of trying to set you up with one of her brothers so you have a reason to stay? Funny shenanigans ensue as omega tries to push her brothers toward you (and succeeds with one of them, your choice of who)
Hope this makes sense! ♥️
“Operation: Stay Forever”
The Bad Batch x Reader
Omega was practically vibrating with excitement as she tugged your hand through the streets of Pabu, her curls bouncing and her voice a mile a minute.
“We’re gonna get snacks, and go to the market, and you have to help me pick a new dress—Hunter says all mine are covered in grease stains but I think they’re just lived in—and maybe we can do something with my hair later! Do you know how to braid? Of course you do, you’re amazing!”
You couldn’t help but laugh, heart full. “I do know how to braid. You want one with beads or ribbons?”
Omega gasped like you’d just offered her the throne of Naboo.
“Beads. Obviously. Ribbons are for formal events. This is casual fabulosity.”
You smiled, following her into the plaza. “Of course. Casual fabulosity. My mistake.”
Hunter squinted as he watched the two of you walk away, Omega’s hand in yours, already talking your ear off.
“…She never talks that much to Tech.”
Wrecker laughed. “That’s ‘cause Tech tried to explain fabrics to her like he was listing battle specs. She just wanted to know if it was twirly.”
Echo leaned against the wall, arms crossed. “She needed this.”
“She’s had us,” Crosshair said simply, though he looked less like he was arguing and more like he was observing.
Echo’s brow lifted. “She’s had four brothers and a droid. That’s not the same thing as having a mother figure.” He glanced at Hunter. “Which I keep telling you. For years.”
“Oh, come on,” Wrecker grinned. “You were basically the mom until she met [Y/N].”
Echo didn’t miss a beat. “And you were the big toddler I was babysitting.”
Hunter snorted. “Can’t argue there.”
⸻
Omega twirled in her new outfit—a bright tunic you’d helped her pick, complete with beads braided into her hair. You’d spent the last hour painting your nails and hers, sipping local fruit teas, and chatting about everything from your favorite foods to who the you thought the cutest clone was.
“So…” Omega said slowly, squinting up at you with faux innocence. “Do you like anyone?”
You blinked. “What?”
“You know. Like like.” She leaned in conspiratorially. “Because I think one of my brothers likes you.”
You choked on your tea. “I’m sorry—what?”
“Well, it’s obvious. Everyone likes you. But I think Echo likes you. Or maybe Hunter.” She tapped her chin. “Definitely not Crosshair. He’s weird. He called feelings ‘tactical liabilities.’”
You laughed despite yourself. “That sounds about right.”
“But you could be the mom! Then you’d have to stay! I’ve decided.”
You raised a brow. “That why you’ve been dragging me by the hand all day like a trophy?”
“Yes,” she said proudly.
⸻
You returned to the Batch’s quarters just in time to find the guys lounging around post-dinner. Omega skipped ahead of you, proudly showing off her outfit and beads.
“Look what we did! She’s so good at braiding, and she picked this out, and—oh!” She turned, sly grin in place. “You know, she really likes men who are good with kids.”
Hunter arched a brow.
Echo narrowed his eyes.
Crosshair rolled his.
Wrecker leaned forward excitedly. “Ooooh. Is this one of those matchmaking things again?”
“Again?!” you hissed, turning to Omega.
Omega threw her hands up. “I’m just trying to help! She’s amazing, and you all need help with social cues.”
Echo blinked slowly. “I’m going to get blamed for this, aren’t I?”
Hunter sighed, rubbing his temple. “Omega—”
“I mean,” Omega went on innocently, “she is pretty, and Echo’s the responsible one, but maybe a bit too serious. Hunter, you’re too emotionally constipated—”
“Hey!”
“Crosshair’s a walking red flag—”
“Not inaccurate,” Echo muttered.
“—and Wrecker’s a brother to everyone. Which means Echo is the best option. Or maybe Hunter if he could manage one emotional conversation without running off into the jungle.”
Hunter looked like he was reconsidering all his life choices. “Omega, you’re grounded.”
“You can’t ground me. I have diplomatic immunity,” she beamed.
Wrecker burst out laughing.
You were crying with laughter now, face flushed. “I can’t believe you just called Crosshair a red flag.”
“She’s not wrong,” Crosshair said, leaning back with an almost-smile.
Echo, still composed, finally looked your way. “You’re really good with her.”
You smiled. “She’s easy to love.”
He paused. “Yeah. She is.”
Your eyes met. The moment hung—just long enough for Omega to wiggle her eyebrows dramatically in the background like a gremlin.
Echo sighed. “Omega, if you don’t stop matchmaking, I’m going to let Crosshair do your next math lesson.”
Her horror was immediate. “You wouldn’t!”
“Oh, I would.”
Crosshair smiled slowly. “I’ll make flashcards.”
⸻
Later that night, you were helping Omega with her beads and hair.
“Did I mess it up?” she asked suddenly. “Trying to push things?”
You looked at her in the mirror and smiled softly.
“No. You just reminded me how lucky I am to be here.”
She smiled back, cheeks a little pink. “You’re not gonna leave, right?”
You pressed a kiss to her forehead.
“Not unless Crosshair actually makes those flashcards.”
“Please don’t leave,” she said dramatically, “I’m not ready for that.”
Neither were you.
And honestly?
You weren’t going anywhere.
⸻
The next morning, you found Omega hunched over the small dining table with a data pad, scraps of paper, crayons, and a very serious expression. Wrecker walked by, glanced at the mess, and raised a brow.
“Whatcha doin’, kid?”
“Mission planning,” Omega said without looking up.
“For what, exactly?”
She tapped the screen with finality. “Operation Wedding Bells.”
Wrecker blinked. “Oh no.”
“Oh yes.”
By midday, Hunter had found out.
Because Omega had tried to get his measurements.
“For the suit, obviously,” she said.
Hunter rubbed his temples like he had a migraine. “What suit?”
“For the wedding. Between Echo and [Y/N].”
You nearly dropped the tray of food you were carrying. “Omega.”
She held up the data pad and pointed to a crude drawing of a beach, some flowers, and what you assumed was Echo in some sort of tuxedo with his armor still on. “Do you want a sunset wedding or a moonlight one? I can make either happen. I’ve already got Crosshair assigned to security. And I told Tech that he could officiate.”
Echo stared at her blankly. “Why Tech?”
“He’s got that ‘wise old man’ vibe now.”
“I’m no older then the rest.”
“Yeah, but you’ve got the vibe.”
Hunter sighed. “You’re grounded.”
“You can’t ground me,” Omega said, standing up and striking a dramatic pose. “I’m planning a wedding.”
⸻
The sun was setting, warm orange light spilling over the ocean, casting long shadows across the sand.
You were sitting quietly, sipping a cool drink and letting the breeze brush across your skin, when Echo stepped out and joined you. He had something in his hands—a small, folded piece of paper, clearly drawn by Omega.
“She gave this to me,” he said, handing it to you.
You opened it.
It was another “wedding plan.” The two of you were stick figures holding hands, surrounded by a bunch of questionably drawn flowers, and what looked like Wrecker as a ring bearer. At the bottom, in bold handwriting, Omega had written:
“You’re already a family. This just makes it official.”
Your heart squeezed.
“She really wants you to stay,” Echo said softly, sitting beside you. “We all do.”
You glanced at him. “You too?”
He met your eyes, and there was something vulnerable there—an honesty he didn’t often allow himself to show.
“I think I’ve wanted that since the moment you helped her with that first braid. You made her feel… safe. And seen. That means everything to me.”
You smiled, heart thudding. “You know she called you the responsible one, right? Said you were the best option.”
A ghost of a smile pulled at his lips. “Guess I’ve got her endorsement.”
You nudged his arm lightly. “I’d take it seriously. She’s planning outfits now.”
Echo chuckled, quiet and warm. “Of course she is.”
The silence between you stretched into something comfortable, like warmth curling around your chest.
“She’s not wrong though,” you said softly.
Echo turned to you, brows lifting just slightly. “About what?”
You looked at him then, really looked. At the man who had lost so much, given so much, and still stood tall—quiet, steadfast, kind.
“That you’re the best option.”
There was a beat. Then another.
He reached out, hesitating only for a second before his gloved fingers brushed yours.
“I’d like to prove her right.”
You didn’t need any more words than that.
Your fingers laced with his as the sun slipped below the horizon.
Back inside, Omega leaned over the data pad and added a final touch to the sketch.
A heart.
Right over where your stick figures stood, holding hands.
She beamed.
“Mission success.”

the steam deck would find it difficult if not impossible to run switch 2 games (i think they’re supposed to have quite similar hardware?) so it really isn’t an option
If it isn't a bother would you mind explaining more this please? I'm somewhat tech iliterate with this stuff so please correct me if I'm wrong, but Isn't the Steam Deck supposed to have the performance comparable to that of a standard gaming PC, so I doubt common minimun requirements are an issue (specifically graphics and size because lbh It's nintendo games they can't be that demanding when compared to the average AAA title). Is it because of exclusive controls the switch 2 has?
and whilst the Switch 2 is living up to the Nintendo legacy of underpowered hardware, it would still probably be very hard to run on a desktop at all
1. Damn it is not that better or different from the past switch? Or you mean like underpowered when compared to a PS5 and such? 2. Again I'm admittedly pretty tech ignorant on the nintendo subject but Is the reason nintendo games are hard to pirate bc the company since the 3DS era implement some sort of special barrier software that makes it more annoying to crack than other common games and/or bc they actively track down piracy?
no its just literally that the switch 2 has much higher specs than the switch 1”. running stuff on an emulator is already harder than running it on the original hardware 9/10 times. the answer to the question “huh? why can’t your pc emulate a switch 2?” is because the switch 2 is, again, a lot more powerful than the switch 1 and thus its games are more demanding. the Steam Deck is meant to be as powerful as a gaming computer, but the Switch 2 is literally a new gaming console that didn’t even exist when the Steam Deck launched. i think modern computers are not as powerful as you seem to think they are! you said “it can’t be that demanding” but actually emulation is just very demanding. the reason the Steam Deck would find it hard/impossible to emulate Switch 2 games (although again it’s really too early to say) is because Switch 2 games were developed with the Switch 2 in mind whereas the Steck has an extra layer of work to do (emulation)
all of this is a moot point anyway because as i said, you can’t emulate the switch 2 yet because nobody has developed the tools to do that.

The main reason to use Firefox and Linux and other free and open source software is that otherwise the big tech monopolies will fuck you as the customer over in search of profits. They will seek to control how you use their products and sell your data. When a company dominates the market, things can only get worse for ordinary people.
Like take Google Chrome for example, which together with its chromium reskins dominate the web browser market. Google makes a lot of money from ads, and consequently the company hates adblockers. They already are planning to move to manifest V3, which will nerf adblockers significantly. The manifest V3 compatible chrome version of Ublock Orgin is a "Lite" version for a reason. Ublock's Github page has an entire page explaining why the addon works best in Firefox.
And Google as we speak are trying to block adblockers from working on Youtube, If you want to continue blocking Youtube ads, and since Youtube ads make the site unuseable you ought to want that, it makes the most sense to not use a browser controlled by Google.
And there is no reason to think things won't get worse. There is for example nothing stopping Google from kicking adblockers off their add-on stores completely. They do regard it as basically piracy if the youtube pop-ups tell us anything, so updating the Chrome extensions terms of service to ban adblocking is a natural step. And so many people seem to think Chrome is the only browser that exists, so they are not going to switch to alternatives, or if they do, they will switch to another chrominum-based browser.
And again, they are fucking chromium itself for adblockers with Manifest V3, so only Firefox remains as a viable alternative. It's the only alternative to letting Google control the internet.
And Microsoft is the same thing. I posted before about their plans to move Windows increasingly into the cloud. This already exists for corporate customers, as Windows 365. And a version for ordinary users is probably not far off. It might not be the only version of Windows for awhile, the lack of solid internet access for a good part of the Earth's population will prevent it. But you'll probably see cheap very low-spec chromebookesque laptops running Windows for sale soon, that gets around Windows 11's obscene system requirements by their Windows being a cloud-based version.
And more and more of Windows will require Internet access or validation for DRM reasons if nothing else. Subscription fees instead of a one-time license are also likely. It will just be Windows moving in the direction Microsoft Office has already gone.
There is nothing preventing this, because again on the desktop/laptop market Windows is effectively a monopoly, or a duopoly with Apple. So there is no competition preventing Microsoft from exercising control over Windows users in the vein of Apple.
For example, Microsoft making Windows a walled garden by only permitting programs to be installed from the Microsoft Store probably isn't far off. This already exists for Win10 and 11, it's called S-mode. There seem to be more and more laptops being sold with Windows S-mode as the default.
Now it's not the only option, and you can turn it off with some tinkering, but there is really nothing stopping Microsoft from making it the only way of using Windows. And customers will probably accept it, because again the main competition is Apple where the walled garden has been the default for decades.
Customers have already accepted all sorts of bad things from Microsoft, because again Windows is a near-monopoly, and Apple and Google are even worse. That’s why there has been no major negative reaction to how Windows has increasingly spies on its users.
Another thing is how the system requirements for Windows seem to grow almost exponentially with each edition, making still perfectly useable computers unable to run the new edition. And Windows 11 is the worst yet. Like it's hard to get the numbers of how many computers running Win10 can't upgrade to Win11, but it's probably the majority of them, at least 55% or maybe even 75%. This has the effect of Windows users abandoning still perfectly useable hardware and buying new computers, creating more e-waste.
For Windows users, the alternative Windows gives them is to buy a new computer or get another operating system, and inertia pushes them towards buying another computer to keep using Windows. This is good for Windows and the hardware manufacturers selling computers with Windows 11 pre-installed, they get to profit off people buying Windows 11 keys and new computers, while the end-users have to pay, as does the environment. It’s planned obsolescence.
And it doesn’t have to be like that. Linux distros prove that you can have a modern operating system that has far lower hardware requirements. Even the most resource taxing Linux distros, like for example Ubuntu running the Gnome desktop, have far more modest system requirements than modern Windows. And you can always install lightweight Linux Distros that often have very low system requirements. One I have used is Antix. The ballooning Windows system requirements comes across as pure bloat on Microsoft’s part.
Now neither Linux or Firefox are perfect. Free and open source software don’t have a lot of the polish that comes with the proprietary products of major corporations. And being in competition with technology monopolies does have its drawbacks. The lacking website compatibility with Firefox and game compatibility with Linux are two obvious examples.
Yet Firefox and Linux have the capacity to grow, to become better. Being open source helps. Even if Firefox falls, developers can create a fork of it. If a Linux distro is not to your taste, there is usually another one. Whereas Windows and Chrome will only get worse as they will continue to abuse their monopolistic powers over the tech market.

bad batch ficlet!!!
just an idea i had that had to be written down
—-
“Omega,” Tech said, incessant. “Omega, you need to get up.”
Ugh.
“Go away,” she said, pulling the blanket over her head. Except there was no blanket. So she just kept laying where she was.
Tech was never one for sleeping in, a skill her other brothers had perfected during their retirement on Pabu. He probably wanted her help with the rusty old hoverbike out in the back shed. Or maybe he was finally planning to tackle the leaky old water cycler in the garden.
“I never lived in the cliff house with you,” Tech said, ever patient. “You moved into the cliff house on Pabu after Tantiss, after the Havoc was destroyed, remember? I need you to get up, Omega.”
It felt so nice to just. Keep her eyes closed. There was something cold and wet on her face, it would get in her eyes if she opened them.
“Omega!” Tech’s voice boomed through her aching head. “You must get up.”
There’s a pungent, stringent smell. She wrinkles her nose at it.
“It’s fuel,” Tech said, as patiently as he ever explained the Marauder’s specs or the science behind hyperspace travel. “Your fuselage has been compromised. I estimate you have approximately ninety to one hundred seconds before the fuel contacts the core reactor.”
She raised her head, groaning as the movement sent her into vertigo. She was lying on the floor of the cockpit, thrown away from the main console, which had crumpled in the crash like a tin can. A metal panel had landed across her legs, and she groaned as she pulled them out from under it. Stumbled toward the hatch, blinking blood from out of her eyes.
“Your comm, and your go bag,” Tech said. “You will need them. Hurry, Omega.”
She grabbed the bag and checked the comlink ,still attached to her wrist. She looked to the mess of the console for Tech’s glasses, where were they, probably somewhere in the wreck of the console, she couldn’t leave them-
“They’re in your go bag,” Tech said. “Don’t worry about them. I’m always with you, regardless. Speaking of go, you must be going-”
She jumped out of the hatch and ran, able to make it on the other side of a steep ridge before her ship blew. She gave it a moment of silence, wincing at the thought of the tirade she was going to get from her squad commander.
At least she’d be alive to hear it.
Had Tech been here? She’d dreamed of him, or she thought she had - could you dream while knocked unconcious?
He’d woken her up. They’d been in their creaky little house on the cliffside in Pabu, and he’d wanted her help with something.
Tech had never lived in that house, though. Never even got to see it.
She rummaged through the bag hanging from her side, panic rising until she finally found them - his glasses. She felt sure she’d left them on the top of her console as she usually did, but here they were.
I’m always with you, regardless.
She pressed them to her chest, briefly, then returned them to the bag and thought about her next move.

how do i find a laptop that won't immediately break when (not if) it slides off the tray on my lap while I'm reaching for a pencil or something? I thought I was buying something relatively robust with my current laptop but it's gotten damaged twice in two years, even though I was trying hard to be careful. Any tips on where to shop for something more durable?
Anyway your tech explainers are very helpful, have a good day!
Generally speaking, laptops are built to be lightweight, not durable.
If I had unlimited money to spend on a computer, I'd get a Panasonic Toughbook maxxed out on all the specs and I'd end up with a computer that cost more than some cars I've owned and would be totally worth it. I actually own two 20+ year old toughbooks that are totally worth it and Large Bastard owns several (we paid between 0 and $100 for each of these), but those are all old enough that they're dedicated to a single task like programming radios, not useful as modern computers. A new Toughbook starts at around $2k and goes up to obscene prices.
This is a laptop that costs more than any car I've ever owned, and will survive a fall of fifty feet and can be used fairly effectively in a thunderstorm.
Because laptops are built to be slender and small, they don't have a lot of room left in them to flex or to pad against drop damage. If a laptop is sliding off your lap and onto the floor, that's probably a fall of at least two feet, which will be enough to significantly damage most laptops because they are not meant to withstand falls.
If you are certain that you are going to end up dropping your laptop, you need to look for ruggedized laptops.
There are low-end ruggedized laptops for students, these are typically chromebooks and I wouldn't recommend them because they are chromebooks and also they tend to be really underpowered.
Toughbooks are the highest, high-end ruggedized laptops. If you've got the money for them, you can't do better, and there are some that are decent when compared to similarly priced slim laptops.
The Dell Latitude 5430 Rugged is somewhere in between those two options; it's expensive but not extortionate and it's not the most powerful computer in the world but it'll do laps around a chromebook.
But if you're looking for a thin, lightweight laptop that is going to survive a fall, I'm just going to recommend that you upgrade your warranty to include drop protection and anticipate it breaking. Laptops aren't designed to survive falls.
Laptops that are in metal cases tend to do a little better in falls than laptops in plastic cases. Laptops with nothing plugged in during a fall are less likely to get damaged than laptops with USB or power jacks in use.
Good luck, and you have a good day as well!

Intro to thatoneguyyousawinthebackgroundofTF: ONE pt.4
ARCEE!!!!
Left: Arcee in TF: ONE Right: Arcee from Transformers Universe
For all the other intro's I started with the tech spec from their original generation one toy, unfortunately, Arcee didn't have a G1 toy. In fact, Arcee doesn't get a traditional transforming toy until 2014. To make up for this I'm going to include both her bio from the Transformers Universe (Marvel) and also her bio from Transformers: More Than Meets the Eye (Dreamwave, not to be confused w/ the IDW comic).
The following is from Transformers Universe:
Function: "Warrior"
Quote: "Looks are always deceiving"
Profile: "A sweet, kind, and loyal Autobot to her friends, Arcee is also a merciless, lethal warrior to her enemies. Arcee's intelligence, quick wit, and coolness under fire make her invaluable to the Autobot cause. The Decepticons constantly underrate her because, since to them she so closely resembles the female humans of Earth which the Decepticons have absolutely no respect for, they believe she is beneath their consideration. It is an attitude that arcee exploits with deadly efficiency. Arcee is very protective of the human, Danny Witwicky, son of Spike Witwicky, the long-time Earthling friend of the Autobots. In fact, sometimes Arcee is a bit overly protective of him and treats Danny almost like a fragile Ming vase since his skin is not composed of a supremely tough metal alloy like hers. Arcee is attracted to the Autobot, Hot Rod, who reciprocates the affection, But neither of them is willing to admit it openly. If one were to listen to the verbal pot-shots they take at each other, one would think that they were the bitterest of enemies. But catch one of the Autobots, or worse, Adecepticon. making a disparaging remark about Hot Rod in Arcee's presence and the offender will more often than not find his hydraulic hoses sliced to ribbons before he knows it".
Weakness: "Arcee's concern for Danny sometimes causes her to take excessive risks in order to protect him".
The following is from Transformers: More Than Meets The Eye, it's important to note that this came out in 2003 and is NOT a part of the Generation 1 cannon:
[From the data personal datatracks of Kup, earth date: 2003]
Bio: Arcee's different. In fact, other Autobots were at a loss to explain what exactly made Arcee so different until they turned to an old hand like me, who'd been off world before the wars. That's when I explained her resemblance to the females of other galactic species. Quick-witted and formidable in battle. Arcee's compassionate to her friends yet merciless to her foes. Her skill and ruthlessness in combat have made others wary, including Hot Rod. Still, the lad has developed a more-than-passing interest in Arcee, as has Springer. None of us have exactly figured out the reasons for all of this yet, but I seem to recall stories about there being more Transformers like her. Of course, that was crazy talk even when I was young".
Abilities: "Acree's an expert hand-to-hand warrior and sharpshooter. Her vehicle mode is equipped with several anti-personal weapons like shrapnel-launchers and tire spikes. In robot mode, she's got average strength, but she's fast.
Weaknesses: "Arcee doesn't have any physical weaknesses I've noticed".

Insufferable Arsehole Part 15: You
A/n: hi everyone! Feels so surreal to say but this is the penultimate chapter of insufferable arsehole *cries*. I love this series so much so please feel free to send in any requests you want to see from these characters. But the main series is nearly over *sobs*. I hope you enjoy this chapter, I love you all so much and thank you for all your support <3. I want to give a massive shout out to @ughgoaway and @justanamesstuff for loving this series as much as I do. Without all of your support (but especially my loving ia stans) this series would've been over a long time ago. I love you guys so much. Hope you enjoy <3
Extra note: I wrote all the little poems in the notebook part of this series. They're all original (whether you think they're shit or you like them) please don't copy them.
Previous Part
Series Masterlist
Matty’s POV
The sofa I'm lying on feels way too comfortable, the warmth of it making it hard for me to get up. It’s soft beneath me and it lures me into closing my eyes. I have things I need to do, I have people I need to call, meetings I need to attend, friends I need to make sure are okay, set lists to read and adjust. A wonderful and loving girlfriend who I need to show my love for. But lying here, listening to the soft strum of the guitar she's playing has my closed eyes fluttering and my body weighing down on the sofa. I don't fall asleep, I just lie with my eyes closed, letting her voice drift over me - consume me.
I had moments like these, moments where I felt... Numb. But she pulls me out of them, or at least fills my body with something other than numbness, she touches the parts that can't usually be persuaded on days like these. These moments were few and far between with the presence of Lou in my life and somehow it makes this time worse. I feel guilty for feeling this way, for feeling low, for slipping into a dark space. I shouldn’t be feeling like this, I had a wonderful girlfriend, I was finally with the girl meant for me. And I had friends, great friends who were more like family. I had adoring fans and I did what I felt like I was meant to for a living. Life was perfect… So why did I feel so unworthy of it all?
It had started earlier this morning when I had snapped at one of the music techs, I hadn't meant to and I felt guilty as soon as I did it. Her warm hand clamped around my shoulder almost immediately, telling me to go lie down and so I did. I heard her apologise for my actions, explaining that I was 'tired'. I felt thankful she didn't tell the guy the real reason. The guys understood it, maybe even more than Lou, so when she spoke to them before she came back to me, they got it. Jamie had once described me as someone with a huge ego but no self worth, in moments like these, I had to agree.
The sound of the guitar stops and I hear her set it down, I hear the shuffle of the foot stall, feel a light bump against the side of the sofa, feel her soft hand drifting up my back, up to my neck and then my head, pushing the curls away and making my eyes flutter open.
My heart beat falters, my breath matching it, her beautiful eyes look down at me, soothing me. It was hard to describe them, they were ever changing. I wouldn't say they were green, but they weren't blue or grey either, it was as if those colours alone weren't enough for someone like Lou, they weren't special or unique so whoever created her (I don't believe in God but some greater being had to create a person like her) decided to make a new colour, a combination of all things beautiful. They had hints of grey and specs of yellow and sometimes the sun made them look piercingly blue but the sun could also make them look like emeralds. They were perfect, one look into them and I can feel myself slipping from the dark spaces of my mind.
"Hi my sweet boy" it surprises me that I don't have to tell her what I need from her in times like these, she just got it. As if she had access to all parts of my brain, able to peek in and see what I needed and having the ability to just give it to me without a shred of hesitation or an ulterior motive. It shouldn’t surprise me, not anymore, not when I knew she was it for me, the only one I ever want to be with, to spend the rest of my life with. The person who was mine and I theirs.
"Hi" I don't recognise the voice that comes from me, a low, deep grumble of a sad man. One that felt like a distant memory, the voice of someone I used to know, not the person I am now.
"I want to show you something" she says and I find myself nodding, she places her black leather notebook in my lap and I find my heart beating three times as hard as I look at it. She had never shown me this before, showing someone this is like showing them your deepest thoughts and emotions, baring your soul to them. I had watched her scribble in it countless times, I had watched as she wrote lyrics that pulled her lips up at the corners, I had watched as she scribbled down angrily, tears falling from her eyes and coating the pages.
I remember the only time I had come close to reading the lyrics, pinning her down to a hotel bed in some forgotten location, tickling her sides until the book slipped from her fingertips, holding the pages above her head just out of reach as our laughter was all that could be heard. I remember the way she begged me to give it back, of course I would never have read it without her permission. I remember her pleas made me drop the book and bury my face into her neck. She made me forget about the lyrics easily, too wrapped up in her to care about them.
"Are you sure?" I ask, sitting up slightly so my back is against the armrest of the sofa, pulling the book towards me and playing with the frayed edges. She smiles at me, her hand resting against my jaw, her thumb running over her bone, making my eyes flutter momentarily.
"Sometimes I think you forget how much you mean to people, you forget how much people love you... And not just me, the band and the crew, your family, my family, the fans... Of course I can only speak for myself... So I want you to read this" she speaks, voice soft and delicate. Beautiful.
I want to speak. To tell her I love her. To thank her. I want to smile. To press my lips against hers. But my eyes won't leave the book.
"most of them aren't finished... They're not songs... They're just things I wrote, little poems" she says and I nod, looking up from the book.
"I love you Matty" she says, leaning down to press a chaste kiss to my forehead before leaving me. It takes a while for me to open the book, scared of what I'll find. My shaky hands eventually separate the cover from the first page.
I find a few I recognise, like the one she posted on Instagram, the one I loved:
"I'd stay with you here forever, you with those dark eyes and darker hair, the epitome of beauty, you put Adonis to shame, with the way you paint my brain, with everything that is you, you with those dark eyes and darker hair. The epitome of beauty."
Her handwriting is delicate, cursive and, for a lack of a better word, beautiful. I'm not surprised because everything she does is beauty. She is beauty.
I flick through the pages, little photos taped to the corners or wedged in, the photos make my heart swell. Photos of her and G, one in particular making me smile: a photo of Lou sitting on George's shoulders, looking as if she was scared to fall down, but she's laughing and so is George and his hands are clamped on her thighs that rest around his head ensuring she doesn't fall. A picture of her and Ross, pulling funny faces at each other, they both look younger, Ross’ hair is short and Lou’s is too, I wish I had her like that back then, even now, even still - I regret the time we lost. I find a picture she took of me, her thighs resting either side of my waist as she takes a photo from above, I feel like a different person than the one smiling up at me. I see another one taken in a photo booth, one where we're kissing, it makes me smile.
I read on, my heart slowly being refilled with love and beauty and kindness and feeling.
I could bask in you for endless days and endless nights. For you are the sun that shines and glistens. For you are the one that warms my once cold heart and bones.
You're the sun in winter, warming up bones and creating smiles. You're rain on a summer's day, soaking the sweat away. You're all things good and kind and lovely. You're love and sex and beauty. You're the definition of passion. Cigarettes and coffee and fresh and home. You're my favourite scent. My favourite sound. My favourite sight. My favourite thought. My favourite feeling. You touch me and I feel you everywhere. Burying into my being. You're mine. My favourite scent. Cigarettes, coffee, fresh, home. My home.
I loved the complexity of some but simply adored the simplicity of others. Reading the ones which don't hide behind metaphors, they're purer somehow.
Pain engraved my brain. Hurt twisted through my mind. Envy soaked through my eyes. You appeared , all those emotions vanished. I began to love the way you loved me. I found myself loving you more. I used to hate you, I hated hating you. I love you now, I love loving you and I love you loving me.
I smile, a huge smile and I feel it seep through my bones, warming my cold body, feeling finally flooding back in.
Red lips and brown eyes. Black curls and tattooed skin. I'd like to paint in you in my mind so I could have you here forever
The few words are the only ones on this particular page, the rest is filled with pictures of us, a picture of the M necklace I gave her, a picture of my marked neck, her marks. There's a picture of us kissing, ones in which any other circumstance would cause my skin to heat up and my blood to rush south. There’s sweet pictures too, of us in Rome, our hands intertwined, pictures of our tattoos we got together.
The ropes within unwind under your command. Just say the word and I'll follow you to the ends of the earth.
Matty is sun kissed cheeks on summer days, cherry blossom on withered ground, swirling clouds amongst technicolour skies.
I turn the page and a larger piece of paper falls out, I unfold it carefully, taking my time in reading the words I find on the page:
Dear George,
I’m writing to you from Rome. Seems a bit weird to be writing you a letter knowing I’m going to be seeing you soon. Was feeling nostalgic I guess… Remember the days when we were both on tour and we’d write these big long letters to each other from wherever in the world we were. It was such a pain trying to make sure they were sent to you before you left that city or town. I remember us arguing one day because Jamie had complained about the amount of money he kept having to spend to retrieve the letters when had arrived a little too late. Grumpy sod.
Anyway, you’d usually write about how the tour was going, how Matty had been getting on your nerves. I always wondered whether you just said that to make me feel better for not getting on with your best friend. You’d send me pictures of you with Ross and Hann and I’d send you pictures of me and the girls (usually receiving a text from you or Macdonald after that made me want to hit you around the head - pervs)
Strange how different things seem now. Like now for instance - I'm writing this, by the pool (this place is fucking huge, you and Charli would love it here), Matty’s napping next to me. He’s sleeping with this dopey grin and… I love him George. So much. Please don’t try to cringe too much reading this. His skin isn’t as pale anymore. Shock right? Our pale boy has a tan!
I want to thank you G. Thank you for everything. You’ve been the best friend I could have ever asked for… but thank you for bringing me him. Matty is everything George. The way he loves me is nothing I have ever felt before. I know now that everything up until now is worth it because now I have him.
I can’t help but wonder how I ever could have hated him. He cares so deeply for every one G… sometimes I wonder if it's too much, if he’s going to get hurt in the end. But that’s okay. Because he has me. And he has you and the boys. And together we love him deeply (still probably half as much as he loves us). I’m going to spend every day of my life proving to him that he is worthy.
So thank you George. He’s the love of my life. He owns my heart, now and forever.
Your best friend - Lou x
My heart picks up in my chest, I love her, more than anyone I have ever loved in my life. I feel tears fall from my eyes, coating my cheeks. I swipe them away before they have a chance to hit the pages.
But you... It was different with you
That's my favourite, my fingers find the page and I carefully tear the page out, I fold it gently and tuck it into my pocket.
I stand from the sofa, feeling weightless now, feeling love for her in every fibre of my being. I walk around the venue, trying to find her. I find George who smiles at me widely.
"glad to see you perked up a bit" he says with a hand to my shoulder.
"Where's Lou?" My abruptness takes him back but it doesn't stop him from answering. I appreciate that.
"She's with your mum in the kitchen, they're baking" George clearly sees my shocked face and he chuckles "yeah your mum is here" I hug him tightly before I leave him, heading for the kitchen.
My legs move too quickly for my brain to register but I don't care, I need to find her. My mum spots me before Lou does and she smiles widely.
"Hello Matthew, feeling any better?" She asks, Lou looks up at me as she finishes speaking.
"Explained to your mum that you were feeling a little tired" Lou explains and I nod, smiling at her.
"Much better mum, thank you" I say leaning down to place a peck against her cheek.
Lou's hands are covered in flour and it makes me smile. I squeeze past my mother with a gentle "excuse me" . My hands find Lou's waist and I hitch her up, making her smile.
"Matty put the poor woman down" my mother scolds me but I don't stop. Lou's hands find my shoulders as she feels like she's going to fall.
"I've got flour on your shirt now idiot" she says but she's still smiling. She looks down at me and I see everything in her eyes, every emotion, every indication that she loves me. I love her, god do I love you.
"I don't care, come here" I say, one hand finding her chin and lightly pulling her towards me.
"Matty, your mum" she says, eyes flicking over my shoulder to my mum who giggles to herself, busying herself with the baking..
"I. Don't. Care" I say with the widest smile I think has ever graced my features.
"What has gotten into you?" She asks, smiling widely. Her eyes sparkle. God she's beautiful.
"I love you Lou, so much, you're everything. I'm going to spend the rest of my life with you, if that's okay with you" I say, I hear my mum coo behind us and Lou smiles above me, her legs wrapping around my waist to support herself more.
"Fine with me Healy" she says, leaning down to press her lips against mine finally. The kiss is kept short to save my mother seeing us in a compromising position.
"But you, it was different with you" I repeat her own words back to her and she nods.
"Yeah..." She says and I see her eyes well with tears, I feel myself copying her, placing her back on the floor but moving my head down to kiss her again. I hold her to my side as I turn to my mother.
"I'll leave you both to bake," I say, pressing a firm kiss to her cheek, smiling at my mother. .
"Okay" she says with a smile. I hug my mum tightly before I walk out, but I don't miss my mother's words
"That boy is obsessed with you, I've never ever known him to love someone as much as you" she says.
"Trust me, the same goes for him. I'd do anything for him" Lou's words make me smile and so I continue walking.
I find George again, happy to find him with Hann and Ross.
"Good you're all here" I say, drawing their attention towards me.
"Everything okay mate?" Ross asks and I smile as I nod.
"I need your help"
"Anything," George says.
"I'm going to ask Lou to marry me" they all smile widely at me, I like that. My eyes flick to George’s. He seems expressionless for a second.
“If that’s okay with you” I ask, I see George’s lip quiver slightly and his fingers grip his bottom lip as he nods. I see tears coat his eyes as he steps forward, grabbing my hand in his and pulling me forward into a hug.
“Fuck yeah” I find myself crying too. I feel two more sets of arms wrapping around us. I smile.

so this is a remix/companion piece to a fic @arquiving is working on. we're using a lot of the same assets, telling different stories. you should all know the epigraph at the start is:
"Hey, Austin?" "Yeah?" "Do you wanna know what the weak point of a mech is?" "Yeah, what's the weak point of a mech?" "The fucking pilot."
— Jack de Quidt, Austin Walker, The Road To PARTIZAN
The story is, basically
I actually have no idea how to explain it, so here's some excerpts I wrote for either my version of the story or @arquiving
\\\ PATCH NOTES FOR F-14 MECHANIZED COMBAT APPARATUS MCA-012, DESIGNATION MAVERICK.
Retrofitting to F18 specs completed July 02, 2022. Comms upgrade completed, along with hardware alterations to accommodate them. Engine upgraded from V9.0 to V10.8 dual-compatible.
Retrofit marked SUCCESSFUL with following caveats:
> Cockpit depth within apparatus reduced but not currently within acceptable range for F18 safety compliance. Upgrade partially complete.
> Standardized rigging of anchor lines found repeatedly incompatible with apparatus chassis. Adjusted anchor line mounts engineered. Fourth iteration of improvised mounts found to be stable. Report from MCA Technician Corp suggests "do not adjust again, no better options found, current setup slightly precarious." Upgrade partially complete.
> After seven attempts to introduce new SC-84-18990 formulation, discovered Apparatus anatomy will not tolerate new compliant Seele conductant and will forcibly expel through vents, requiring full decontamination and cleaning. See appendix 17 for further detail. Upgrade declined.
> Attempts to remove secondary cockpit failed. Upgrade declined.
> Attempts to install automated secondary cockpit violently rejected by apparatus anatomy. Upgrade declined.
MCA-012, designation MAVERICK, classified as single-pilot apparatus. Please note WSO "second seat" is present but is not to be used under any circumstances. See Warrant Office Coleman with any inquiries.

Bradley remembered when the Naming happened.
It was kind of funny, the way the Navy had gotten first crack at the Exclusion Zones. When Bradley was back in Basic, it was a frequent point of discussion and low-brow humor. When Phoenix— just Nat back then— had mentioned she was getting sent to the Tanager Outpost, Bradley had asked her if she was packing a swimsuit.
"It's 300 miles from any body of water," Nat had groused. "Remember when we were the boat people, Bradshaw?"
Truly, Bradley didn't, and he knew Nat didn't either. Both of them were too young to remember before the Zones appeared. The Navy of old existed on celluloid and in history books. Hell, back when Bradley was in high school, the textbooks hadn't even been updated with all that shit. He wondered if kids in AP World History had to learn the names of the Zones or the order they had opened in.
But that may have been 300 years ago for all that it mattered now.
Bradley had always hoped he'd get assigned to the mech corps when he was in Annapolis. Between his last name and the fact he had Admiral Kazansky's phone number in his contacts, he thought he might get in. But Bradley also knew how few MCAs existed, and the Navy didn't let you opt-into the pilot program. You either passed the aptitude test or you didn't.
The test had been a fucking blood test. Someone took four vials of his blood and walked away with them, and nobody told him shit.
Everyone's results were classified.
Bridewell was not the first base Bradley had been stationed at, but the third, after Yokosuka. He'd put in his time watching monitors as Seresin ran underwater drills in his MCA, keeping an eye on the sync rate.
He'd been on duty when Seresin had broken the 90 percent threshold and had started laughing over his monitor. "Yokosuka, tell the techs to break out the stencils and spray paint. MCA-zero-four-niner's designation is HANGMAN."
Of course it had been HANGMAN. "How the hell do you deal with that cockpit," Rooster had asked Hangman over ice cold asahi at the local pilot bar.
"Ain't as bad as it looks," Hangman had said with an almost fond smile. "I know my boy's going to protect me."
"Boy?" Bradley grew up hearing men call their favorite car milady and ships were still consider old broads. The specificity had caught his ear.
"Hm? Yeah. Or, closer to that than anything." Hangman had tilted his bottle against the tabletop, letting it roll along the curve of the glass. "They don't tell you that part. Maybe because most of the people writing the manual can't break a fifty on their synch ratio, so they don't even know. But the mech has ideas of what it is. You just gotta listen."
After Yokosuka, Bradley was back in the states, Bridewell Forward Operating Base, right outside of the Gateway Exclusion Zone. No one called it St. Louis anymore, just Bridewell if you were military or Gateway if you were a civilian.
Bradley was piloting MCA-059 when it all went to shit. 059 was an odd bird, slow ambulation with its awkward hip joints, but the legs were… different. As his sync rate climbed, he could feel the massive shock absorbers around his ankles, how his femurs were hydraulics. 059 was fitted for urban landscapes, it was built to actually maneuver around the buildings and the streets.
Shutting his eyes, Bradley inhaled, mouth and lungs full of Seele conductant. Holding it inside, he listened to the low thudding ping of his sync ratio rising. He counted until his synch settled at 57 percent.
"Lieutenant," his comms officer hailed over the radio. "We have a report from the tower, there's a fluctuation over by the riverside, south of the I-65."
"What kind of fluctuation? Something big wander out?" The majority of his work around Gateway was just making sure nothing from the Zone crossed the Mississippi. Plenty of people still insisted on living in Gateway for reasons Bradley had never understood.
"Information is currently incomplete, but marked as urgent. Setting guidance."
Coordinates updated in the cockpit, and Bradley felt the faint tug of that way, already pulling his mech around. Turning his grip on the controls, 069 sank down, sinking below the skyline. At 30 percent power, Bradley let the line snap like releasing a rubber band, and he launched up into the air.
Wind rushed by him as he soared in a narrow arc, landing on a rooftop. From here, he could see down the river.
"What the hell is that?" he murmured as the opalline green-blue sheen of the Zone wall curled and twisted into nonsensical kaleidoscopes.
He had eyes on it when the wall just ruptured, split like a worn seam. Underneath was more shimmering Zone wall, spilling out from the break like silk in water, spurting across the river. As it landed on the Missouri-side, it filled out, the wrinkles smoothing out as it stretched.
"Zone wall anomaly, the Zone has breached the river boundary," Bradley called out, twisting his throttle sharply. 059's thighs folded down into its calves, pressure building.
This time Bradley didn't aim up, he pushed forward, rocketing over to anomaly with such force, his body slammed back fully into his pilot's seat.
It was the Gateway Zone Expansion, the first of its kind. Usually Zones didn't get wider, just deeper.
Much later, Bradley would be questioned extensively about what he saw, the shape of the growth, how quickly it had spread and whether the spread had felt directed, bullshit like that. But in the moment, Bradley hurled himself and his mech into action.
There was no way to stop the expansion, so Bradley followed it, spire jumping along the boundary. As FRM began to wander out into the city streets, he fell on them, grasping every weird-ass creature with his metal hands and redirecting them back into the veil.
His brain was alight with waypoints and blooms of information, and he continued the crash his thousand-ton body into the streets, the hydraulic tension in his legs becoming easier to take each time.
There was no moment of epiphany, no trip through the Star Gate, just— ROOSTER. He felt the connection like a breeze through his hair. MCA-059 was ROOSTER, or they were ROOSTER, it was complicated.
"Lieutenant Bradshaw, your synchronicity is unstable. Please return to baseline," a MCA technician said over the comms.
"I'm fine," Rooster said. "I— I just, it was the thing, I—" He glanced over at the monitor.
72%. Personal best. He breathed in and felt his chest expand, his shoulders rolling back, the accentuators powering, shifting the mech's limbs with him.
He exhaled slowly. "Uh, status update. MCA-059 should probably be designated ROOSTER. Yeah, Re-engaging FRM." Twisting the throttle, he soared.

KERS/ERS in speedster frames
So, in light of trying to motivate myself to learn more about racing tech, we've come across the KERS/ERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery System). it's basically a mechanism that stores energy produced under braking into a resevoir, to then be released in acceleration as boost. A KERS would store energy only under braking (by utilizing a flywheel), while ERS converts energy from braking and engine heat (by using a 2 motor generator units, one for kinetic and the other for heat). a number of modern vehicles utilize KERS such as the Fiat Panda and Porsche 918. ERS is mainly used in F1 cars.
What does this have to do with speedster frames?
well, to put it simply, i think speedster frames have* built in KERS/ERS. the efficiency of this system can also be a distinguishing factor between speedsters in general. since KERS/ERS irl are often built individually for the vehicle itself (meaning that each system is unique AND no KERS/ERS are exactly the same).
Diving into KERS/ERS implementation on speedsters
to simplify things, i'll use Blurr and Drift as examples, roughly applying their (supposed) real world versions if they were actually irl cars. in my opinion, not all speedsters are built for top of the line speed and efficiency. allow us to explain:
it would be in Blurr's best interest to have fast everything, and by doing so, needs efficiency everything. since i think Blurr is equivalent of a endurance car, or an F1 car, someone like Blurr would heavily utilize an ERS. an ERS is a much more sophisticated version of a KERS, encompassing the KERS by adding additional energy recovery methods , fitted into much modern day racecars. but if Blurr has ERS, other people must have them too, yes? what sets them all apart? engine mapping! ERS is not a driver controlled system, and instead is automatic, aligning with the engine's mapping such as heat maps. in turn, this makes all speedsters' ERSes unique, since no two engine maps exactly the same way. also, an ERS produces about 160 horsepower and is a mandatory power unit in F1 races.
in contrast, Drift would have a KERS because he is a drift car and he utilizes braking a LOT. KERS primarily focuses on energy recovery from braking, which could be real useful in drift cars since they use a lot of braking and pull the e-brake a number of times to drift. even in normal driving situations this would still be useful, albeit a bit slow to charge up the reservoir since youre not constantly braking. again, no 2 KERS are the same, since no 2 vehicles are the same specs. one could have a smaller KERS, one could have a bigger one. made out of slightly different materials.
so in a sense, they're both speedsters, just pointing in different directions
*not all speedsters have a KERS/ERS. some might have theirs worn out and needs replacement, some may have not even been 'born' with an efficient one. some may even have theirs missing for other reasons such as poverty. this makes speedsters more diverse in presentation, which is what i'd like to see in a lot of spaces.
sorry for the terribly specific rant about this terribly specific tech used primarily in racing. i think its neat! feel free to share your thoughts on it (^_^)

Hi! I'm not sure if you've answered this question or not or if I missed it in your pinned post. I've been dying to mod Cyberpunk for forever, and have finally decided to give it a try. I am very intimidated by the whole ordeal because I know cyberpunk has so many spec requirements (I play on console) and was wondering if you had recommendations? I'm looking to buy a PC to start my modding and visual photography journey but don't know where to start. I've scoured reddit for recommendations but keep getting mixed signals.
I've watched you slowly create your digital portfolio for Valerie over the last couple years and have just been in utter awe of your work. I've looked up to you for a while and want to follow in your footsteps.
Thank you for your time! ☺️💖
Hey there! Thank you so much for the sweet words!
You didn't miss anything, so no worries! I don't think I've ever shared my PC specs in one place. Currently I have:
Motherboard: MSI MAG Z790 Tomahawk MAX
Processor: i7-14700K (with a Cooler Master liquid cooler, I forget the exact model)
RAM: Corsair Vengeance DDR5 64GB
GPU: Geforce RTX 3070 Ti
SSD: Samsung 860 EVO 2TB
NZXT H710i ATX tower case (I think this exact model is discontinued, but I'm a fan of NZXT cases in general--They're very roomy, have good airflow, and have good cable management features)
I've built and maintained my own PCs for about a decade now, and I remember when I first made the switch from console to PC, a lot of the conventional advice I got from more seasoned PC gamers was "Build your own rig, it's cheaper, and it's not that hard." I wasn't fully convinced, though, and I did just get a pre-built gaming PC from some random company on Amazon. If you have the money and you're really intimidated at the idea of building your own, there's nothing wrong with going this route.
Once I had my pre-built, I started with upgrading individual components one at a time. Installing a new GPU, for instance, is pretty easy and fool-proof. Installing a new CPU is a little trickier, especially with all the conflicting advice on how much thermal paste to use (I've always done the grain of rice/pea-sized method and my temperatures on multiple CPUs have always been fine). Installing a new power supply unit can be overwhelming when it comes to making sure you've plugged everything in correctly. Installing a new motherboard is not too far off from building a whole new thing.
And building/maintaining a PC is pretty easy once you get past the initial intimidation. There are so many video tutorials on YouTube to explain the basics--I think I referred to Linus Tech Tip videos back in the day (which might be cringe to suggest now, idk), but you search "how to build a gaming PC" and you'll get a ton of good results back. Also, PCPartPicker is a very helpful website in crosschecking all your desired components to make sure they'll play nicely with each other.
The other big piece of advice I'd offer on building a PC is not to drive yourself crazy reading too many reviews on components. Don't go in totally blind--Still look at Reddit, Amazon reviews, NewEgg, etc. to get an idea of the product and potential issues, but be discerning. Like if you check Amazon reviews and see a common issue mentioned in multiple reviews, take note of that, but if you see one or two complaints about something random, it's probably a fluke. Either a one-off manufacturing error or (more likely, honestly) user error.
You'll probably also see a lot of debates about Intel/NVIDIA vs AMD when it comes to processors and graphics cards--I started with Intel and NVIDIA so I've really just stuck with them out of familiarity, but I think the conventional wisdom these days is that AMD processors will give you more bang for your buck when it comes to gaming.
If you do go the NVIDIA route, I've personally always found it worth the extra money to go with a Ti model of their cards--I feel like it gives me at least another year or two without starting to really feel the GPU bottleneck. I was able to play Mass Effect Andromeda on mostly high settings with my 780 Ti in 2017, and I actually started playing Cyberpunk on my 1080 Ti in 2021--I think most of my settings were on high without any notable performance issues.
Now you probably couldn't get away with that post-Phantom Liberty/update 2.0 since the game did get a lot more demanding with those updates. However, my biggest piece of advice to anyone who wants to get into PC gaming with a heavy emphasis on virtual photography is that you do not need the absolute top-of-the-line hardware to take good shots. For Cyberpunk, I think shooting for a build that lands somewhere along the lines of the minimum-to-recommended ray-tracing requirements will do you just fine.
I don't remember all my current game settings off the top of my head, but I can tell you that I have never bothered with path-tracing, my ray-tracing settings range from medium to high, and I don't natively run the game at 4K. I do hotsample to 4K when I do VP, and I do notice a difference between a 1080 and a 4K shot, but I personally don't feel like being able to constantly run it at 4K is necessary for me right now since I still only have a 1080p monitor. If I'm going to be shooting in Dogtown, which is very demanding, I'll also cap my FPS to 30 for a little extra stability.
(Also, and hopefully this doesn't muddy the waters too much, but I feel like it's worth pointing out that you could have the absolute best of the best hardware and still run into crashes and glitches for random shit that might require advanced troubleshooting--My husband had a better build than I did when he started playing CP77, but he kept running into crashes because of some weird audio driver issue that had to do with his sound system. I just recently upgraded my CPU, RAM, and motherboard, and I was going nuts over the winter because my game somehow became less stable. It turned out the main culprit was Windows 11 has shitty Bluetooth settings.)
But in my opinion, I think getting good shots is less about hardware and more about 1) learning to use the tools available to you (e.g. in-game lighting tools, Reshade, and post-editing in programs like Lightroom or even free apps like Snapsneed) and 2) learning the basics of real-life photography (or visual art in general), particularly when it comes to lighting, color, and composition.
I don't rely on Reshade too much because I try to minimize the amount of menus I have to futz with in-game, but I do think DOF and/or long exposure shaders are excellent for getting cleaner shots. I also like ambient fog shaders to help create more cohesive color in a shot. However, I put most of my focus on lighting and post-editing. I did talk a little bit about my methods for both in this post--It is from 2023 and my style has evolved some since then (like I mention desaturating greens in Lightroom, but I've actually been loving bold green lately and I've been cranking that shit up), but I think it still has some useful advice for anyone starting out.
For a more recent comparison of how much my Lightroom and Photoshop work affects the final product, here is a recent shot I took of Goro.
The left image is the raw shot out of the game--It has some Reshade effects (most notably the IGCS DOF), and I manually set the lighting for this scene. To do this, I set the time in-game to give me a golden hour affect (usually early morning or early evening depending on your location) so the base was very warm and orange, then I dropped the exposure and essentially "rebuilt" the lighting with AMM and CharLi lights to make Goro pop and add some more color, notably green and blue, into the scene.
And the right image is that same shot but after I did some color correcting/enhancement, sharpening, etc. in Lightroom and clip-editing and texture work in Photoshop.
Okay, this was long as hell so I'm gonna end it here, haha. If you have any more questions about anything specific here, feel free to ask! I know it can be really overwhelming and I threw a lot at ya. <333

Tech and Omega Swap AU : EPISODE 5
s1ep5 changes/notes
(baby boi Tech doesn't have his name yet, but I'm using his name for simplicity)
Similar to the show, Tech is given Crosshair's old comlink. He fiddles around with the buttons and settings and Echo tells him it is not a toy, to which he replies, that of course it is not a toy, and lists some of the specs
When the Batch get to Ord Mantell, and go to find Cid, Omega comments on the less-than-sanitary conditions of the bar. Tech stares at Cid for a while before stating that she is who they are looking for. The batch bargain with Cid, like in cannon, and when Cid says Tech is the brains of the operation, Tech responds that he is quite intelligent, but is by no means the leader of the team
While on the mission, Tech asks about the slave traders, and Omega explains that slave traders treat people like property. Tech is confused, as it neither legal nor morally correct. Omega and Echo try to comfort Tech, promising that they're going to rescue Muchi. Omega and Hunter survey the terrain, noting the entry points and lookouts. Tech is upset when he is told to return to the ship
On the ship, Tech modifies the trooper doll (like Omega does in cannon) and it looks similar to Tech's s1 armor from cannon. He mentions to Gonky that he would like to modify some actual armor for himself, but this was good practice. Tech hides and then slips out of the ship (like Omega does in cannon). He sneaks over to look for his siblings
When Hunter says they need to contact Tech, and when Echo is grumpy about not having their comlinks, Omega replies that the won't need a comm, gesturing to Tech. Hunter tries to signal to Tech to escape, but Tech cocks his head to the side and throws out some hand signals. "He... just signed [plan #]**?" Hunter is confused. Omega laughs, "That would work here. When did he learn our plans?"
Tech successfully makes it to the crate and unlocks it before being captured. He does state "I wasn't sneaking, I was unlocking."
Tech and Omega help the slaves escape before returning towards the battle. A slaver or two jump out at them, and after dealing with them, Omega offers Tech her D-17 blasters for protection, saying they were a good size for him. He asks what she will do, and she responds that she'll find something. As Tech runs ahead to the squad, Omega smiles and takes a bow from one of the slavers
It is Echo who tells Wrecker that rancors have a hierarchy, and maybe challenging Muchi would work. After Wrecker tames Muchi, Tech states that the creature is fascinating
They return to Cid and the rest of the episode would be pretty similar to cannon
**whatever number, this plan means release the cargo
