I haven't thought about Briar in so long but god yeah I love them and Optimus actually. He needs so many hugs.

Dustblades

who started the relationship

I haven't fully settled on the lore here, so it's all subject to change. That said, it's probably Dustspin. I mean, can you really see Blades having the guts to confess? Bless him, he'd be terrified.

It'll take Dusty a long time too, because of her past experiences with relationship, as well as due to her being certain Blades deserves better than her. But he's... very obvious about his feelings, even if he doesn't realize it, to the point where even Dusty is pretty sure she is not misinterpreting the signs (everyone else has known for ages). So at least she won't worry too much about getting rejected.

So technically, Blades is the one who doesn't let up until he finally convinces her that he's serious and that it's okay for her to let it happen – except he is entirely unaware that he is doing this, and fully under the impression that he is being very inconspicuous.

The tv remote. This is canon. Blades is not afraid to take it up with a Wrecker if the remote is at stake.

who leaves their stuff around

Well, Blades is a medic (even though this is almost never brought up) so he probably knows to put his things away properly. Meanwhile Dustspin is a Wrecker and they're quite notorious for not giving any fucks. Don't get me wrong, Dusty is very well-behaved and polite when there's authority around because she's terrified of messing up, but once she's comfortable? Yeah, good luck. Blades is gonna have to clean up after her every time she leaves after a visit.

who does most of the cleaning

Bahaha, Blades indeed. Rip buddy. Dusty can have a trait that annoys him, as a treat. She hates it and she also doesn't care enough if her space is messy. Blades isn't that meticulous about keeping everything organized (that would be Chase) but he still likes having his things where they're supposed to be. And not looking like a mess, thank you very much.

He kind of likes cleaning sometimes! It's relaxing. And way better than flying, or doing dangerous rescues. Dustspin very strongly disagrees, but so long as she can do the flying and he can do the cleaning, this works out well enough.

who’s the cuddler

Blades. Dustspin doesn't even know how to handle all this affection. Get cuddled, idiot! She loves it a lot more than she would ever openly admit.

what do they do when they’re away from each other

Dustspin is away from Griffin Rock quite often; she doesn't live there permanently until later on. She likes being with Blades, but she also enjoys her alone time. It gives her time to relax, away from any pressure. Though she has to stay away from humans for obvious reasons, she's quite curious about weird Earth stuff, and likes to just fly around and see if she can spot anything worth checking out, even though she doesn't wind up understanding what she's looking at more often than not.

Blades meanwhile stays on Griffin Rock living his life as he normally does, but he doesn't deal with the separation as well as Dusty does. He misses her :( do you think she'll be back soon? Everyone else gets really annoyed after a while.

what would they do if the other one was hurt

Hey I get to bring up Blades being a medic again! Although you'd fully assume he would panic, as he usually does, I like to believe that Blades can actually handle himself in a medical emergency. He trained for this! This is something he can fix! AND he can do it on the ground where it's nice and safe!

Of course he's still pretty worried if it's Dusty that's hurt, especially if it's bad, but he's got this. He can do this. Actually locks tf in and if anyone disturbs him he WILL tell them to fuck off and order them to get him supplies or whatever else he needs. Including Heatwave. Heatwave actually complies.

The other way around, Dustspin actually handles it far worse than Blades does. She at most knows basic first aid, not really enough. She's terrified of losing him, and you know she's going to blame herself for anything that goes wrong. She's the one that's trained for combat. Why didn't she take the hit? It should've been her. Even if it was something entirely out of her control, she'll still find ways to pin the blame on herself. She said she'd protect him!

That said, if Blades was hurt by someone else? They better know how to run very, very fast.

Nightpurr x Chase

who started the relationship

Chase is the one who brought it up and properly established it (very, very formally) but you know Nightpurr was heavily flirting with him for a long time. He also did not catch onto that for a long time. And once he finally did (or rather someone finally spelled it out for him) he sat Nightpurr down to have a Very Thorough Discussion about their feelings, the implications, and plans to proceed. He was making very sure there were NO misunderstandings or other communication issues. There may or may not have been physical written documents involved.

You know Nightpurr is constantly unintentionally breaking laws nobody even knew existed lmaoo. Please Chase I beg of you some of these things aren't THAT big a deal. It's all fun and games until he comes between Nightpurr and creature watching.

who leaves their stuff around

Nightpurr 100%. I could have mentioned this in the previous bit too. They do NOT care. Nightpurr is an out of sight out of mind type of cat; if they put things away they'll forget they exist. Leave it on the ground. It's driving Chase mad.

who does most of the cleaning

Chase, not even a contest. Everything has its designated spot, and he does not like it when things are not in their places if they are not currently being used. He's not obsessive about cleanliness, but he does like keeping his space presentable and reasonably tidy. And Nightpurr sheds.

who’s the cuddler

Nightpurr!! You know how cats will fall asleep on you and you can't move? This happens to Chase constantly. Except the cat is very large. And affectionate. There is a force behind those head bonks. It works well enough if he's reading or writing while they've got their head on his lap. But if he had any plans, well too bad, because it's snuggle time! Unless there's an emergency of course, because in that case Nightpurr will begrudgingly release him (and inwardly he's just as disappointed).

Nightpurr is probably off animal watching somewhere. They do tend to forget time exists, although at some point Chase may seek them out just to make sure they're still alive, and they're always happy to see him! Nightpurr probably went "man I miss Chase" and then proceeded not to move for several more days. Just. Forgot.

Chase focuses on work. Very much. Though you can't really tell if this is because he's distracting himself from missing Nightpurr, or if he's just like that. Probably both, honestly. He needs his kitty cuddle sessions.

what would they do if the other one was hurt

Chase is so worried, bless him. He's also citing the law to whoever hurt them. They're in a LOT of trouble (legally). But that's actually going to have to wait, because he's taking Nightpurr to a medic first, no matter what his orders are. WITH the sirens on. Get out of the way.

Nightpurr on the other hand may briefly forget they are a pacifist. You don't hurt this mech! They are biting. Everyone else may suddenly be hit with the realization that this normally laid-back and snuggly kitty is very large and has teeth.

Optimus x Briar

who started the relationship

It was mostly a mutual thing. After the whole ordeal with Joanna, him and Briar had a long, deep conversation, and just somehow ended up on the topic. Neither of them really knows how they actually got to this point. It somehow just happened. A good 3am conversation will do that to you.

most trivial thing they fight over

Hmm, I know they have disagreements about Optimus constantly risking himself and also blaming himself for everything, but I wouldn't call those trivial. Aside from that though, I can't see them fighting very often.

Optimus does get more jealous than he wants to admit whenever Briar drives any other vehicle, but he keeps those thoughts to himself. Like most things. You think this man would have healthy communication? We bottle shit up like men.

Briar. Does Optimus even have stuff? I don't think any of these guys really own things aside from stuff like weapons and artifacts. But even if he did, it'd still be Briar. You'd think the teenagers would be the ones leaving messes around, but Briar is up there with Miko.

who’s the cuddler

Briar! Optimus just has a shoulder-human now. Snuggling against his helm. Though he always has to be hyperfocused on not accidentally dropping them, they're too small to really be in his way, so he doesn't stop them. He actually really, really likes this. Briar is too tiny for him to properly snuggle back, but he lets them hug his fingers sometimes.

Okay, well, Optimus would never show that he feels this way. He's the Prime. Everyone's looking to him for leadership and guidance, he cannot show any such weakness, especially for a human. Not that he thinks humans to be less, but he has sworn to protect their species, not do this. It feels improper for someone in his position. But he really just wants to go home and have his face held for a bit. War is exhausting.

Briar understands that dating the leader of an alien race means that they won't get to spend as much time with him as they would like to, and they respect this, but they still miss him. They tend to hang out at the base whenever they can and just read a book or play video games with the kids, just in case Optimus comes by and they get a brief chance to at least see each other. Even if it's just for a few minutes, it's better than nothing.

what would they do if the other one was hurt

If it was one of the bad guys, Optimus would destroy whoever did it. You know he can be terrifying to face if he wants to be. But you also know he would immediately blame himself, and no force in the universe could change his mind. Humans are so fragile. Briar would have never been in danger if they hadn't met him. Just look at what happened with Joanna! He knows this is all his fault, and he knows that he should make Briar go home and never come back and never contact them again, because they would be so much safer that way, but they always refuse and he just can't make himself force them. Which makes this his personal failure.

Briar meanwhile is terrified. What do they know about aliens? Optimus is gigantic, it's not like they can carry him. They can't even bandage his wounds or anything. They're utterly helpless and it's the scariest thing they've ever experienced. Optimus would try so hard to remain calm and reassure them that everything will be alright, but his voice is wavering and they know he's faking it like he always does. Of course their first course of action is to call Ratchet, but if that's not an option, they're just lost.
