The Survival Series (early 1980's) by Jenny Holzer (1950-)

This series arose during a time-period marked by pubic anxiety and uncertainy and unrest as a consequence of events in society at the time. (Political,Social, War, etc.)

Jenny Holzer, a contemporary artist, utilized various mediums including LED signage; installations, cast bronze, chisseled into stone benches, etc.

Her art, which is text-based, certainly challenges various truths within society in concise, matter-of-fact phrases. Her pieces incite introspection with her provocative aphorisms, also successfully pulling spectators 'into' her works.
