#that doesn't totally explain why it falls back out of your ear instead of just decaying inside your skull
You know, with the amount of control a yeerk has on a brain, it's really lucky we never see them completely wreck someone's brain when their getting starved out.
Yeah! I think the closest we get is poor Hildy "Spacey" Gervais. It's not clear what his whole deal is, since he's only in Visser for a few minutes, but we know that someone tried to yank a yeerk out of his ear by force and he's got some kind of brain damage as a result.
I headcanon that Jake (and everyone else who had a yeerk die in their brain) ends up okay because the yeerk has to be "holding on" to connect to the brain and lets go automatically on death. Sort of like how killing a leech while it's attached to your body will cause the leech to fall off, not bite down further and lock onto you. That's also why you can't yank a feeding leech off — you'll end up with a chunk taken out of your skin, the way Hildy presumably did with his brain. Yeerks get compared to leeches a lot, and a leech can only parasite you if it's alive and awake, so maybe the yeerk also just falls off the host if not actively hanging on.

A playful argument about who fell first and who fell harder
Tumblr media
Izuku Midoriya: Walking beside the green haired boy on the way back home looking through your phone having been answering couple questions with him before glancing up at him with a grin knowing he wouldn't like the next one"okay this one asks who fell first and who fell harder". "Well, it was totally you! I mean, we've been best friends for a looong time, so you were in love with me right away!" He stuck his tongue out. You let your jaw drop at him before playfully pushing him away as you laughed at him before speaking. "I did not it was so you. How often did you try to get my attention?", "Okay! Fine! It was a mutual crush!" He spoke confidently while you nodded along, pretending to think before shrugging "Yeah sure... but you still fell first and harder."
Katsuki Bakugo: You were in the middle of making dinner as Bakugo cleaned up from a rough day of hero work, waiting for the food to be done as you scrolled through your phone seeing a couple quiz and giggled knowing this would most likely turn into another thing the blonde wouldn't like and simply waited for him so you could ask the questions. "I can tell you want to annoy me. Go on, ask your stupid questions." He spoke after walking back into the room and noticed your plotting you then laughed hearing him speak from behind you, kissing him quickly as you smiled at him "thank you my love", Looking back down at her phone for the question then giggled again as you looked up at him "the question is out of you or me who fell first and who fell harder". "You fell first, no question. You fell so hard, in fact, that your entire plan was to fall in love with me and get me wrapped around your finger, " he spoke roughly as you laughed again at his words and shrugged "if that's the case doesn't that mean you fell harder for me? if not, then at least explain why you don't think so." Watching as he shrugged it off and got louder, "Fine! Fine, FINE! I fell harder for you, okay? You got me wrapped around your little finger, and I love every minute of it, happy?!"
Shoto Todoroki: Giggling as the playful argument continued on, knowing you'd get an answer out of him even if he kept trying to change the subject you looked at him with a grin on your face and a raised eyebrow as you tried asking again "come on just tell me who fell first and who fell harder out of the two of us". He smirked, "Why so adamant on the details?And who knows," He chuckled, "Maybe it was you who fell first. And also," He said as he smirked again and then rested his hands behind his head, "You probably fell a bit harder than me," Shoto said confidently. "You know since I was catching you." He teased. You leaned in closer, smiling at him before gently kissing his lips with a nod of your head "Alright I may have fallen first for you, but you hands down fell harder for me icy hot." Shoto blushed a bit at your kiss before chuckling and returning it, "Okay, I might have fallen a little harder... Just a little bit." He held up one of his hands for emphasis as he let out a light laugh.
Tenya Ida: Laying down next to him in bed looking at him as he continued to read a book but started to tap the back of the book trying to get his attention, smiling up at him which he finally put his book down noticing you weren't feeling tired enough to go to sleep but instead make him think of how to answer your racing thoughts which focused on the relationship as of right now* "out of us who do you think fell first or harder?". "W-well, that's a pretty difficult question, dear." Ida replied. "We both fell for each other pretty quickly. And I suppose neither of us fell 'harder' than the other because it's such a hard thing to measure. But I think if we really have to say one of us fell harder, it's got to be me. It took me a while to really come around to my feelings for you." Ida said, his face and ears turning a little red in embarrassment from the memories of how long it had taken for him to accept his love for you.
Denki Kaminari: laughing as you threw a pillow over at the blonde sitting across from you, knowing this entire argument was nothing but playful but picked up another pillow acting like you were going to throw it "Admit it Denki you fell first and harder not me". Denki laughed “I did NOT!” he said, trying desperately to avoid that second pillow. I don’t fall for people that easily, you know! Especially not for… I’m kidding! I’m kidding!!” He ducked and just barely avoided the pillow. He shot you a knowing glance. “You got me there.”
Tamaki Amajiki: It had been a date night for you both to enjoy at the end of the week after all the hard work put into the week, leaning on closer with a smile before shaking your head not believing the nervous boy at all "no you did not fall first or harder then I did Tamaki I was there I know exactly who fell first and harder". He chuckled nervously as his cheeks blushed a slight shade of pink. He felt as though he was getting flustered just talking to you, and it didn't take much to get him like that. He scratched the back of his neck, trying to find the words to say before he decided to just spit it out. "Y-Yes, I did..." Tamaki was a bit red in the face, still trying to look away. He seemed to be struggling to respond, but it looked like he was putting a lot of effort into it. You might have even heard him softly humming to himself, trying not to let his nervousness take over. "I-I definitely fell harder than you did..." Holding out your hand towards him smiling sweetly as you noticed his nerves kicking in harder again but kept your touch gentle and light for him before speaking softly. "How about a deal then? We both fell first at the same time, and each fell harder for the other." "Sounds...s-sounds perfect..." Tamaki whispered, leaning up and pressing a gentle kiss against your cheek. He seemed satisfied with the compromise you both had reached.

A Thousand Days With You (3)
Series Master List
"This is more steps than Jujutsu High," Satoru comments, keeping an even pace with Kagome. She ignores him. One thing she has found is that Satoru likes to talk a lot. And he doesn't even need someone to answer back, just someone to listen. So, she does just that. Let's the weird sorcerer talk her ear off about everything and nothing at the same time.
When they make it up the steps, she motions for him to follow her around to the shed where Gramps likes to keep all his trinkets and findings.
"That's a powerful talisman you have there," Satoru says from behind her. He leans forward and Kagome scowls. For a man that has infinity around him at all times, he does not seem to understand the concept of personal space. "You do that yourself?"
"Who else would do it?" She opens the shed and wrinkles her nose at the distinct smells. "Careful not to touch anything. There's still some stuff that I need to reorganize and reseal. I don't know how anything may interact with you, and I don't want to see you get hurt or possessed."
Satoru's smile turns into a frown. He looks so put out by her caring for his wellbeing. Kagome clucks her tongue. Poor guy must not be used to people caring for him or he doesn't know how to show it. Explains why Megumi-kun can be so emotionally constipated sometimes. Even if Satoru isn't his dad, the apple does not seem to be falling far from the tree.
"So, where are these fingers?" Satoru asks, right as she hits the light switch. He lets out a low whistle and she can feel the curiosity brimming behind her.
"They should be around here," she answers. "Told Gramps to put them somewhere I can find them. The shed is filled with imp hands and feet, a couple of dragon scales, and even some swords made from neko claws. Kagome eyes the boxes she has not gotten to yet. How Gramps finds all this stuff is a mystery.
"What kind of weapon is this?"
Kagome whips her hand around and slaps the sword out of Satoru's hand. The demonic energy crackles and sizzles out. "What did I tell you about touching stuff?" She plants her hands on her hips and levels him with a glare.
"What the hell was that? It tried to..."
"Possess you? Yeah, that's why I said don't touch anything." Kagome sighs. "Honestly, maybe you should go back to the car and wait with Ijichi-san then? I just need to put a seal on these fingers and then I should be done here for the day." Kagome throws another glare at Satoru as she bends down to retrieve the sword.
She may as well put a seal on this one, too.
"You realize this place is a hazard?"
"Whose getting past my talisman?" Kagome rolls her eyes as she sets the sword down on the shelf and grabs the extra parchment and brush she keeps in the shed. "Do you need one?"
"Do I need what?" Satoru crowds her space. Even with the bandages covering his face, she can see how enthralled he is by her work. Personally, it's not all that impressive. These sorcerers must be pretty weak, then if something as simple as a seal is impressive.
"A talisman to keep you safe? I suppose I could put something together for the students as a welcome gift." She nods to herself as she moves to grab the box of fingers. At least, that's what the box says, so there better be fingers in here.
"And your grandfather interacts with this stuff?"
"He has a penchant for it." Kagome pulls out one finger and frowns at the sloppy work. Whoever did these seals did a poor job at it. "So, you don't want a talisman for home?"
Satoru ignores her question and instead plucks the finger out of her hands. "He has a penchant for coming across Sukuna's fingers?"
"Sukuna?" Kagome bites her lip. "Should we reseal them or just get rid of them?" Since he knows more about these fingers, she'll go off of his suggestion.
"These fingers are indestructible. Not even I can get rid of them." He holds out the finger and frowns.
"... So, we should get rid of them?" Kagome eyes the other fingers. Just three total. Hopefully, that's all there are of these weird fingers.
"We can't. They're indestructible. Better to reseal them and lock em away."
This time Kagome frowns. He can't get rid of them. That does not mean she can't do it.
"I'd like to at least try." She plucks the finger out of his hand and places her hand on top of her palm. Her powers sing to life. Warming her palms and making work of the finger. A bead of sweat dots her brow. This is tougher than the other weird objects Gramps has come back with.
"Hey!"
She ignores Satoru's complaint and focuses her attention on purifying this finger. Her body feels like a limp noodle. Oof, okay. Just one finger takes that much out of her.
"Ugh, I don't know if I'm up for any more missions today. Didn't think it would take that much out of me," she says, with a sigh. Kagome opens her hands and the finger fades to dust. "Please tell me there were only these three fingers."
Satoru grabs her palms and turns them over and then back again. It's a bit disorienting to not see his eyes. She can't get a proper read on him, but maybe she shocked him.
"How the hell..."
"I just purified it. Normally I just reseal stuff, so it's not an issue for anyone, but these fingers seemed pretty bad." Gramps is going to flip when he finds out she got rid of one of his latest finds.
"They're supposed to be indestructible. Binding vows."
"Binding vows?"
"It's something sorcerers or curses use in exchange for something."
"... Oh, but I'm not a sorcerer, though."
"I'm aware of that," he says with a frown. "And don't ever tell anyone that."
Kagome's brows bunch together. Why can't she tell people that? Isn't that the whole reason he asked her to come work at the school because her powers can help them?
"Because," Satoru starts, "a binding vow can have serious repercussions for those that break them. Even I don't know what those repercussions are, but it's enough that no one dares to go back on their vow if they can help it. So, don't tell anyone that the binding vows potentially don't have an effect on you because it can cause issues."
Kagome nods her head. She gets it now. Keep her cards close to her chest. "Well, okay then, I won't tell anyone else." She sighs, her shoulders drooping. Man, that took a lot out of her. Maybe she needs to do this weekly. Or monthly. Ugh, she hasn't felt this drained in years.
"There were twenty fingers, but since you got rid of one, we're down to nineteen. I don't know where they are." Satoru scratches the back of his head. He's so tall that his head nearly hits the lightbulb.
Or rather, his head should have hit the lightbulb, but his infinity must be preventing that from happening.
"Why would someone want to put a binding vow on some fingers?" And what kind of demon has twenty fingers? Err... curse.
"There is an extremely small chance that if someone were to consume one of these fingers or anything similar that the previous sorcerer could come back. Like a reincarnation. Sukuna is considered the strongest curse user in history, so no one wants him to come back for obvious reasons."
"What happens if someone eats these, and Sukuna doesn't come back?"
"They die. A curse could get a power boost." He shrugs, seemingly done with the conversation. Instead, Satoru's focus seems to rest on an imp hand.
"Alright, well, I'm exhausted now." Kagome reseals the other two fingers. "I can walk you to the car." She ushers Satoru out of the shed and puts the seal back in place. It won't keep Gramps out, but it stops unsavory individuals from accessing the items inside. Help them all if someone got hold of one of those swords.
"You're really gonna ditch me?"
"Purifying that finger took a lot out of me. I'd rather not chance it, plus I got some papers I need to grade."
Satoru is silent as they walk down the steps. There's tension in his shoulders. Does her getting rid of the fingers bother him that much?
"You sure you don't want to come with?" Satoru leans against the driver's door, preventing Ijichi-san from getting out. He tilts his head to the side.
Kagome gnaws on the inside of her cheek. Why is he so insistent she comes with him? Could it be because he needs her help? She sighs and nods her head. "Fine, I can watch your back if anything gets out of hand. But then, no more missions for today."
Satoru's mouth pops open and it looks like he wants to say something, but instead, he chuckles and opens the back door for her.
These sorcerers must truly need all the help they can get, since no one else has been able to get rid of even one of those fingers.
"Were you able to reseal those fingers, Kagome-san?" Ijichi-san asks from the front seat, his gaze catches hers in the rearview mirror.
"Yes, I—"
"Drop us off at the next spot. I'll take Kagome home afterward," Satoru interrupts, his knee brushes against her. There's plenty of room in the car for both of them, but Satoru is insistent on invading her space.
"You're taking me home? With what car?" Granted, they could take the train, but she has no idea where this next mission is located, so it must be a ways off and not close to anything if Ijichi-san is driving them. That or Ijichi-san drives Satoru around regardless of how close the mission is.
"I don't mind taking Kagome-san home," Ijichi-san says.
"Don't you have a meeting to get to afterwards?" Satoru throws an arm back along the seat. His fingertips graze her arm.
Kagome shivers.
"Just drop us off."
"It's alright," Kagome says, needing to break up the stuffiness. "Not like I'm not used to taking the trains, anyway." There must be a reason Satoru does not want Ijichi-san sticking around. She shifts, trying to get more comfortable. For some reason, she feels she can trust Satoru. Even though he is a bit... quirky. He means well, and he clearly needs her help. "I can put up a barrier when we get there."
"Aren't you tired? I can put up a veil."
Kagome wrinkles her nose. "Your energy has been in knots since we left the shrine. I can manage a barrier so you can focus on the mission."
Satoru angles his body towards her. "Can you feel just me or Ijichi too?"
Kagome pauses. She focuses on Ijichi-san, but the only feeling she gets from him is that he has cursed energy. It's different. "I can feel the curse energy inside of Ijichi-san, but it's different. Not like a visual thing. Yours is all knotted up like you are stressed or pent up."
Satoru wets his lips and then leans back. "Definitely pent up."
"Do you need like a massage or to meditate? Meditating always helps me when my powers are being funky." Jeez, these sorcerers do not understand the basics of taking care of themselves. She is going to have her work cut out for her when she starts teaching at the school.
"I could use—"
"Looks like we're here," Satoru quips, practically throwing the door open in his haste to get out of the car.
Huh.. perhaps the backseat is cramped with both of them in it. She'll just have to ride upfront with Ijichi-san next time, so Satoru can be more comfortable.
"Thanks for driving us. I hope your meeting isn't too long," Kagome says to Ijichi-san as she gets out of the car. Satoru hands her, her bow and quiver from the trunk. "Are you sure you are okay?"
Satoru's energy is even more twisted up than before. If this keeps up, he might not be able to complete this mission.
"I'm fine. You don't have to worry about me," he says with a grin. He throws a look over his shoulder at Ijichi-san, but with those bandages covering his eyes, it's hard to tell what he's trying to convey. Tires screech behind her. Well, whatever Satoru was trying to convey must have gotten through to Ijichi-san for him to take off like that.
Kagome stifles a yawn as she sets up another barrier around what seems to be an abandoned home. The overgrown grass is a dead giveaway. "If you need me, just flare up your energy and I'll come help you out."
Satoru snorts.
She ignores that. "And then when we get back to my apartment, I can help unravel those knots."
"Ya sure you don't want to get involved?" His tone is teasing.
Kagome rolls her eyes. "Don't you have a mission to finish? You may have all day, but I'm still tired from earlier." This man is infuriating. Not as bad as Koga, but he's definitely the type that flirts with himself in the mirror.
He flashes her a smirk and heads into the house.
Her phone buzzes. Please don't let it be Hojo again. Oh, it's just a text from Mom. Kagome reads through the messages. Thank goodness they left when they did. InuYasha didn't tell her he was gonna stop by today. She'll have to visit him and the others later.
Mom: Oh, and Inu said that there was a weird smell by the shed.
Kagome: Weird smell? Well, he may have smelled Satoru. I stopped by earlier, but no one was home.
Mom: Satoru?
Kagome: Bye!
Kagome shakes her head as she puts the phone back in her purse. No way is she letting Mama meet Satoru. That's just asking for trouble.
"Whose Inu?"
Kagome's heart tries to claw its way out of her chest. What the hell? She snaps her head up and Satoru's greets her. When did he get behind her? She saw him walk through those doors. Is she so out of it she couldn't sense him sneaking up on her?
"Mission done?"
"Yep," he says. "Whose Inu?"
Kagome turns and pushes Satoru back. "You are so nosy. I don't look over your shoulder and read your text messages."
"You can't look over my shoulder," he replies cheekily. "Was just curious is all since he could... smell me. Must be a strong dog shikigami."
Kagome blinks. He thinks InuYasha is a dog? Well, he is a dog, but Satoru thinks InuYasha is like a dog, dog?
"Why are you so pent up, anyway? Are the curses too strong?" Kagome drops the barrier and walks alongside Satoru. She isn't sure where they are, but Satoru seems to know where he's going.
"Curses have nothing to do with it." He huffs. "And I'm the strongest."
Kagome tunes him out. Yeah, he says he is fine, but his energy has been getting more tangled up. That can't be good. She pats his arm and squeezes. "It's okay. We'll get you sorted out. My purification is just really effective because it's pure against cursed." She smiles warmly.
That's probably what's bothering him, but Satoru shouldn't get so worked up about it. She lets out a small amount of energy. Not enough to fully untangle his knots, but enough to calm him down until they get to the apartment. Satoru lets out a shaky breath.
"Can't do that kind of stuff out in public."
Kagome wrinkles her nose. Why not? Oh, because someone may take notice. But how is that really different from when she puts up a barrier? She's still using her powers, regardless.
Whatever.
"I didn't use that much. Just enough to keep you stable until we get to the apartment. Speaking of which, how much further is the train station from here?" She doesn't mind walking, but it feels a little strange to be walking the streets with her bow and quiver.
"Need me to carry you?"
"No? I'm wearing a skirt."
"Yeah, I've been thinking about that. Are you sure you want a skirt for your uniform? What about a nice pair of baggy pants?"
Kagome scoffs. Baggy pants? "Not my style. A skirt is easier to move around in."
Satoru lets out a long-suffering sigh, as if she just told him that the world is ending. Kagome gives his arm one last squeeze and then lets his arm go. Satoru makes a strange noise in the back of his throat.
"What's wrong with my skirt?"
"Nothing. It's a perfectly fine skirt. Totally great for fighting curses."
Why does it sound like he's lying?
"Are you lying?"
"Me? A liar?" Satoru laughs. "It's Ijichi, you have to watch out for. He's always giving me the wrong schedule and then I'm late for my meetings with the principal."
"Ijichi-san?"
"Mhmm."
Kagome lets the conversation die down until they arrive at her apartment complex. There's no way, sweet Ijichi-san is this big liar. If anything, Satoru seems to be the one that likes to tell tall tales. She hangs up her things and motions for Satoru to follow her.
"Do you want anything to drink?" Kagome points to the couch. Her stomach clenches. There's something about Satoru being in her apartment that feels different. Not sure if it is a good different or a bad different. Satoru man spreads on the couch and makes himself right at home as if they have been friends for years.
"You just let strange men into your place like this?"
Kagome rolls her eyes. She's been doing that a lot more. "No, but if it came down to it, I could take you."
Satoru's mouth pops open and then he promptly closes it. "I would like a glass of water, please."
She blinks. He said please? Oh dear, this must be more serious than she thought. Kagome turns on her heels and grabs them both a glass of water. She hands him his glass and sits next to him on the couch.
"How do you want to do this?" He sets his glass down and fiddles with his jacket.
"What are you doing?" she asks, slightly alarmed.
"Aren't you giving me a massage?"
"Not that kind of massage." She pinches the bridge of her nose. "That one is on me. I guess I didn't explain all that well." She sets her glass on the table and reaches for his hands. "It's more like an energy massage because it's your cursed energy that is tangled up, not your muscles."
Okay, his muscles are probably tensed too, but he can go to a masseuse for that.
"Just close your eyes and relax." She closes her own eyes and allows her mind to focus on unraveling the mess he's made. Satoru sighs as each knot comes undone. When she opens her eyes, his cheeks are red. There's a flush to his pale skin.
Weird. She's done something similar with InuYasha, and he never reacted like that. Maybe it's because Satoru's energy is cursed and InuYasha's is demonic?
"How do you feel—"
"I gotta go." He warps out of view.
Kagome frowns. Gojo Satoru sure is a weird one.

Chapter Twenty Four
Sprouting of a Blossom
Pairing: Osamu x Fem!Reader
previous | next | missing heiress
It's been almost a week since the night at the pier and the incident at the laundromat. You've visited Osamu every chance you get thanks to Aoi driving you back and forth despite how often it may be. You stay with him for as long as the nurses allow, always bringing fresh flowers for Osamu to fight against the stuffy room. You never noticed, but there were times when Atsumu came to check up on his brother, too, but decided it'd be best to let you spend your time with him first before going in once you've left.
ATSUMU'S P.O.V.
As I watch Y/N fixing my sleeping brother's bedsheets through the small window in the door, Aoi silently walks up to me.
"How long do you usually stare at them for before going in?" she whispers, but it still startles me.
"Very funny," I scoff as I dust off my clothes to fake that I stayed calm the whole time. "Sometimes I don't go in at all."
"Why not?"
"Because he's right, I am an idiot. I tried so much to push them away and only faked as if I cared. I suppose that's why I tried to drive them apart by believing whatever Daisho told me. But if I really cared, I would have done something instead of talking about their impending doom all the time. Bet that's what stressed 'em both out," I sigh.
Aoi smiles softly. "What have you got in your hands?"
"I completely forgot I brought it with me. It's some gift Osamu was going to give to Y/N but that night he got hurt I ended up receiving it instead," I tell her.
"Well, what are you going to do with it?"
"It's for Y/N so of course I'm going to give it to her," I reply.
"Then why do you look so nervous?" she continues to whisper almost straight in my ear. Did I mention this girl creeps me out sometimes? I mean, she's pretty, it's no wonder Kita likes her so much, but damn!
"I'm not nervous! I just don't know if she's going to punch me in the face if I walk in there. She might totally hate me, she might not," I groan.
"I explained everything to Y/N about that night. I told her why you believed Daisho's lies and how you stupidly tried to get Osamu to move on. She doesn't blame you but talking to her wouldn't hurt."
Did she just call me stupid?
"Do you know what Sakusa's death means?" she then asks.
"Hm?" I question, but as I look over at her, she looks away. Apparently she's done talking. I sigh as I place my hand on the door handle and step inside. The second I do, Y/N glares my way and I gulp hard.
"Shh," she smiles softly. "Osamu's asleep."
"Oh, okay," I reply nervously as if I wasn't watching them for the past fifteen minutes. "How are you, uh, doing?"
"It's a lot to take in," she shrugs.
"Well, being supreme boss won't be that bad," I try to assure her, but she leans in closer to me and tilts her head slightly to the side as if she misheard me.
"What did you just say?" she whispers.
"Being boss won't be bad. We'll be here to help you with everything to ease you into the transition," I smile.
Y/N leans back and straightens up. She stares across the room with wide eyes before slowly turning her head towards me. "Atsumu I've got no idea what you're talking about but it isn't funny!"
Oh my god, she doesn't know, does she? I thought Aoi said she told Y/N everything already!
I'm not quite sure how to phrase it gently, so my explanation just comes out like word vomit. "Since Kiyoomi passed away you're the new heiress of the syndicate."
She looks like she's going to pass out. That definitely wasn't the best idea. She's still grieving over the loss of her brother. Hell, I am, too. I wave my hand in front of her, trying to catch her attention before she falls backward out of her chair. "Hey, are you okay?"
"What the hell is wrong with you, Atsumu!?" she whisper yells at me. "I'm not the boss! I'm not even part of the Yakuza! How does that even work?!"
"I dunno but stop yelling at me about it! I don't make the rules, alright?!"
"I'm sorry," she sighs as she apologizes. "I didn't mean to yell at you. I suppose I already knew. It was the last thing Kiyoomi said to me after all."
My back straightens as she brings him up again. I wish I could have been there to say goodbye...
"Don't worry, Y/N," I assure her as best I can without tears fogging up my vision. "I know you'll be great."
She nods and looks away. It's just in time before a few streaks of water break free and slip down my cheeks. But I quickly wipe them up with my sleeve and change the conversation.
"I brought you something." She looks over at me with curiosity, either not noticing or saying anything about my red eyes. "Well, actually it's from my brother. I only have it because of everything that happened that night..."
Y/N smiles as she thanks me for holding onto the gift. I hand it to her and watch as she carefully tears through the gold wrapping. When she spots the bracelet, her eyes widen.
"It's a flower," she remarks simply as she picks it up and traces her fingers over the petals. I wonder if she's kept that stupid dandelion this whole time. What a weirdo, that must be why she's so fixated on the sakura.
She puts it on and smiles up at me as if I'm the one who spent all that time shopping and bought it for her. "Thanks again, Atsumu. I appreciate everything you've done for me even though you've got a... weird way of showing it."
What?! She's the weirdo here, not me! What the hell?!
"Oh, by the way, Osamu will be discharged in a few days. I know you want to be here with him but I think you should find some time to head over to the casino and talk to Kita about getting your position all set up."
She looks back down at the bracelet she's wearing and fiddles with her initial this time. "That's a good idea," she finally replies, though she still sounds quite unsure of herself. "I'll go first thing in the morning with Aoi."
"Have you gotten all your things from Motoya's already?" I ask, wondering how long she'll be staying with Aoi.
"Yeah, and we've started to clean out his place, too. I found some neat things of Motoya's in there. He had a lot of gardening and botany books. There was one on the structure and preservation of flowers that caught my interest, too. I'll have to find some time to read that sooner or later."
"That sounds like fun," I nod, despite how absolutely boring gardening and botany- whatever that is- sounds.
Y/N smiles, but it soon fades away. "Is it true that Daisho's missing? Aoi told me nobody can find him."
"Unfortunately," I admit to her.
"Does that mean I'm free to move around again?" she then asks hopefully.
"Not completely which is why you've been staying with Aoi. But you'll have more freedom than before, I promise you that."
She nods quietly as she looks over at Osamu. "Since I won't be around do you think you could take care of the flowers for me? Don't let them dry out, drink too much, or die while I'm gone, okay?"
"Ah, what's one or two drinks gonna do?" I grin.
She narrows her eyes at me as she stands up. She then walks around to Osamu's side and kisses him on his cheek. "Goodbye," she whispers to him. "I'll be back when I can. But I hope you'll be out before I get the chance."
She then leans up and gives Osamu one last sad smile before walking out of the room. I sigh and shake my head at him.
"You really had to fall for the missing heiress, didn't ya?"

can I request a lil something? during the end of the manga or after the timeskip if you haven't read it yet, reiner still has feelings for historia and reader has one-sided feelings for him.
pieck gives reiner a small hint, saying he's wasting time while there's someone close to him that cares for him and points to you. he doesn't understand at first and maybe is conflicted about his feelings for you because of historia. reader is cool about it as she doesn't expect him to reciprocate her feelings.
a rollercoaster of emotions later, maybe there is a happy ending tho? i am curious to see what you can come up with 😭😭 i have dreaming of this scenario before bed and i can't help but get jealous of his crush on historia abjdsndks maybe you can help reiner reciprocate reader-chan's feelings or not
thank u so much aly 💖🥺
reciprocation
pairing: reiner braun x reader
a/n: OMG yesss! honestly, i was kinda annoyed at how reiner still had a crush on historia. i know that isayama wanted to show how everything went back to normal, but i was hoping that reiner would have a bigger role in the allied nations instead of being "dumbed down" to having an obsession with her. MAYBE THATS JUST THE JEALOUSY SPEAKING LMAO 😭 i was hoping this would be longer, although school has been killing me so im really sorry!! i hope its okay 💗💕 thank you honey!

as reiner is handed historia’s letter, you fold your hands on the table and watch him without a word. when he reads the lines and smells the parchment - jean saying something snarky afterward - you say nothing.
you want reiner to be happy: you want to see him at ease like this more, face soft as the leaf of the page flits from his pinched fingers.
and so you let the man speak about historia like she’s a damn goddess, gushing over her handwriting, and keep your goddamn mouth shut. ignore your jealousy. your feelings.
the truth is, you’re in love with reiner.
you can’t even remember how it happened, but you can remember the first time you looked into those hazel eyes, and how you knew that they were going to stick with you for eternity.
you’ve come to accept his crush on the queen, though. reciprocation was never an option in your mind.
when jean begins to chew reiner out for lusting after a married woman, and reiner says something about jean being a horse, pieck’s gaze lands on you. “you’re rather quiet,” she says softly, resting her head on her palm.
you shrug, turning away from her. “i’m just tired.”
pieck catches your chin between her lithe fingers, and turns you to face her with a tiny smile. the young woman is very perceptive, and you’ve known her long enough.
that’s when you notice the twinkle in her eye. she’s planning something.
pieck releases your jaw then, sitting up in her chair. “you’re wasting your time, reiner,” she says suddenly. “there’s already someone you know who cares for you.”
you pretend to not hear pieck - and definitely pretend you don’t see her faintly point at you through your peripheral. the movement of her fingers is barely there, but you catch it.
damn you, pieck.
the way you’re now pinned underneath armin, jean, connie, and reiner’s stares makes your stomach tie itself into knots with bubbling reluctance. shit, this is awkward. you want to run away.
still, you peer over to study reiner’s reaction. he looks confused at first, the contours of his face unreadable. you swear you see connie facepalm at the man’s cluelessness.
then reiner’s expression slowly changes: his eyes widen in awe, lips parting slightly, and brows knitting together. he seems genuinely surprised - and conflicted.
conflicted? why?
there’s no time to explain yourself though, because the door creaks open and annie steps in. her words fall on your deaf ears, and when everyone stands up to leave, you’re the first one out of the room. work beckons you as always.
Tumblr media
two days pass.
you’ve been busy filling out tons of paperwork pertaining to the allied nations, so when you’re finally given a day off, you take it with open arms.
freedom at last.
you lean against a bench outside of headquarters, enjoying the salty breeze that flutters along your skin. it’s dusk, the sky covered in a gradient of neon colors as the sun dips below the horizon.
you haven’t seen reiner since that day in the conference room. you wonder how he’s doing, what he’s thinking, how he’s holding up -
“hey.”
speak of the devil. you glance over your shoulder toward the voice, low and familiar.
reiner approaches you, clad in his uniform: the suit hugs his large frame perfectly, showing every flex of his muscles, and his blonde hair is neatly parted. the black tie looped around his neck just pulls it all together. it has you weak at the knees every. single. time.
“hey,” you answer, giving reiner a smile as he stops beside you.
and that’s when your heart lurches at the sight of him.
the sunset highlights reiner’s profile in gold, a heavenly shine that settles upon his blonde lashes and the flawless slope of his nose. the flecks in his irises sparkle – a beautiful mixture of soft browns and muted greens. the only thing you can do right now is admire the man.
his words are what breaks you out of your daydream.
“work has been crazy lately, huh?” reiner says, focused on the candy-floss clouds and their fluffy shapes.
“well - yeah, pretty much. i don’t want to look at a pen or a piece of paper ever again.”
“that bad?”
“you have no idea. i almost regret marley and paradis reconciling.”
reiner chuckles gently at the joke, but it’s strained. his forehead remains creased, and he’s not really smiling. the emotion there is more … doubtful. it’s like he’s having some sort of inner conflict.
hopefully reiner’s not acting cautious because of the other day. you know he doesn’t return your feelings, and that’s totally okay. you’re happy enough being with him like this. “i’m not mad or anything, y’know.”
reiner stiffens at that. there’s a white flash of teeth when he chews on his lower lip. “i know.”
“good,” you hum, breathing out a sigh of relief. your core twists with envy when you force a grin. bite it back. tease him like always. “so about historia … ”
reiner’s eyes go wide almost comically, and you hear the breath in his lungs leave his firm chest in one exhale. there’s a light blush staining his cheeks now. it’s funny; he’s so goddamn big, yet he’s such a teddy bear.
“y-yeah,” reiner mutters. you observe the way his brows pinch together as he awkwardly shifts in place. it takes a while before the man composes himself again, which is strange.
is he scared or something? what the hell?
“pieck,” reiner hesitates for a moment. the golden strands of his hair ruffle in the wind and he appears ... well, lost. “was she being serious?”
the question is a shocker - jeez, he could have at least let you prepare yourself. a firm ‘no’ almost slips out, but you’ve never been much of a liar. not to reiner, anyway. crossing your arms against your chest, you inhale sharply and nod. avoid staring at him face-to-face. “yep.”
“ … why me?”
reiner says the words with a mixture of spite and anguish, a casual and rumbling voice. you immediately turn your head, frowning. “what?”
“i’ve done so many horrible things.” reiner exhales heavily and stares down at his hands; perhaps he’s imagining all the blood they’ve been stained with. “i betrayed everyone. i killed innocent people - all because i was selfish.”
it’s no surprise that reiner is broken after everything he’s been through, but it pains you to know that he continues to suffer in silence. whatever war is raging inside his ribcage tears him apart piece by piece, and you wish you could carry the burden.
there’s probably nothing you can say to convince reiner that he was just a kid, a victim of circumstance. there’s nothing that can persuade him to see himself the way you do.
so you decide to tell reiner why you love him.
you explain the amount of admiration you hold for him. tell him that you love the way he just wants to be someone his comrades can lean on, like a big brother. tell him that you think he’s the most gorgeous person you’ve ever seen and how you think he deserves the world.
the way you spill your guts out snaps every nerve in your body. you don’t say everything you want to – but you tell him enough. a dark flush spreading across your face, you find the courage to look at him.
the world seems to stop on its axis when you find reiner staring right on back. the intensity of his eyes is stunning; they’re lit up with astonishment and affection.
god, the affection. you see it clear as day. maybe one of the greatest regrets in his life is how he forced himself to see you only as a friend.
that’s when he reaches out to you.
reiner retracts his hand twice, unsure, before slowly brushing his fingertips against yours. the touch is so feather-light that you almost can’t feel it. it’s a test - he’s waiting to see if you pull away. you can’t even move if you wanted to, because his fond gaze keeps you rooted to the spot before him.
when you don’t recoil, reiner finally moves to gently hold your hand; his palm is so much bigger than yours, and your fingers slot together perfectly, like a jigsaw puzzle’s final piece.
heart thrumming like a hummingbird has been stuffed into your chest, you’re almost at a loss for words and come to a realization.
this utterly amazing man likes you. always has.
but reiner shoved away the feelings for one simple reason; you deserved ‘better.’ focusing on the old crush he had on historia was a distraction - an attempt to convince himself to stop thinking about you.
because looking at you everyday and not being able to act upon his feelings was too painful.
“is this okay?” reiner asks lowly. there’s a slight pinkness to his cheeks, the color of a selfless love.
by some miracle, you manage to nod dumbly. “yeah, of course. it’s fine.” it’s amazing is what you actually want to say.
reiner squeezes your hand at the reassurance, a sigh escaping from his throat. “i really—”
you wait for him to finish, but he doesn’t. reiner just searches your profile for signs of discomfort, and then untwines your hands to bravely swipe a thumb along the length of your cheekbone.
there’s no time to speak because he’s already leaning down.
the sensation of reiner’s lips pressing against yours lights your skin ablaze; you can feel the curling flames of passion sear your soul, made even more intense by the warmth of the sunlight on your back.
it’s natural, it’s tender, it’s warm.
reiner’s breath rattles into your mouth when you rest both palms against his solid chest and deepen the kiss. the musky smell of his aftershave and cologne envelops you completely, and fuck, it’s so good. your arms wrap around him, fingers passing over the sharp slopes of his shoulder blades.
as much as you wish the kiss could go on endlessly, there are people gathering outside. avoiding any unwanted attention from nosy strangers is very much appreciated.
you pull away to nuzzle your nose into reiner, and he rests his chin on your shoulder, protective arms moving to loop around your waist. it’s such an intimate caress that it sparks your brain into overdrive.
as the rushing sound of the breeze comes back to your ears through the quiet, you tuck the kiss away to be remembered forever. that’s all there is to it. being close to reiner like this - swaying together like wildflowers in the wind - is more important than anything else.
“i like you,” reiner murmurs.
the suddenness of it makes you laugh, and you can feel the upward quirk of reiner’s lips - a whisper of a peaceful smile and a sweet, sweet promise.

Hello. May I please have comfort headcanons of Dainsleif, Ayato, and Kaeya (separately, please) comforting their (gender neutral) significant other who is scared of thunderstorms? Thank you. Have a good day/night.
Tumblr media
dainsleif, ayato, and kaeya comforting their s/o who's scared of thunderstorms!
a/n : finna be workin myself for you guys, workin hard so i can please you LMFOA, apologies if it's short. gn! reader.
requests : opened!
Tumblr media
i had to squeeze all my brain juice for dainsleif...
his heart hurts whenever he sees you being scared or just covering your ears, although he doesn't really get why you're scared of it, but respects it.
he immediately sits beside you next to the window with water drops going down, softly telling you stories about his adventures with the traveller.
i have a very weird hc that he's slightly demanding in a good way, so i think he'd probably make you sleep with him rubbing circles on your back.
if that doesn't work, he'll just hug you until the thunderstorm is gone, after that he waits for you to calm down with no pressure at all, and asks for you to go on a walk with him while it's still cold outside, he makes sure that another thunderstorm isn't gonna comeback anytime soon.
if you don't like going outside or if you don't like the cold, you two would just stay inside the rest of the day under blankets while drinking warm tea.
"dear.. are you alright?" dainsleif asked as he sat beside you, thunder could be heard as you shivered. he gets out of his position to get blankets and came back after awhile to put it on you both as he covered your ears with both of his hands.
Tumblr media
i also think ayato would make warm tea for you, tries to distract you with other things, talking about your and his interests. in fact ayato's voice could easily make you fall asleep.
his warm hands going up and down your arms as he sits behind you is very comforting, also would like to listen to you about anything, if you want to talk about something important, it would be the right time to discuss it there.
ayato would ask help from thoma too, actually one time thoma and ayaka came back to the estate drenched in water because they had to do something with the traveller.
they saw you shivering in ayato's arms as they asked what was wrong. ayato slowly explained as he saw you asleep in his arms and combing through your hair with his hands.
"fufu, y/n has already fallen asleep, thoma, would you help me make them tea once they wake up?" ayato asked looking at thoma while ayaka was beside him. "of course!" he smiled, as ayato carried you to a bedroom, after sometime, you woke up with tea on the bed table.
Tumblr media
kaeya is such a tease im sorry
but he also feels really bad, stops the teasing for awhile but continues on after the thunderstorm is gone and after you calmed down.
he'd also read you stories since he probably gets some books from the library that lisa let him borrow.
also tells you about the mischief klee has been doing every day, totally the person you could come to if you wanna laugh and ignore your fears.
i don't think he knows how to make tea.. so he makes warm food for you, any food of your choice.
he heard the door open slightly, he peeked through out the kitchen to see what was happening and you both saw klee drenched as he laughed.
kaeya malewife arc, he makes warm food for the both of you, tells klee she should dry off and take a bath first, after klee finishes drying up, she hands you her humpty dumptys that aren't bombs and are just plushies as you squished both of her cheeks on her face.
klee actually talked a lot, tiring you and kaeya, once you all got tired you all snuggled up in a blanked and slept, forgetting about the thunderstorm.
"klee? what are you doing here?" you questioned, "well, the headquarters was too far already and i got tired. so i decided to come here instead! you and uncle kaeya both live here anyway." she sang as you got up and headed to the bathroom to dry her up as she changed into new clothes, while kaeya was done cooking for the both of you with a small smile on his face.

The coffee that sinks inside your stomach brings out a grimace and a click of your tongue where the taste stains; too bitter, too acidic but you’ll drink it anyway and to the last drop; there is something about the idea of spending time with three best friends that is so made of spring and honey that you wish to miss none of it.
“Someone is lurking,” George contemplates out loud, and the call goes silent for a second as if to look for the intruder. And it would so easy to flinch, to hit the back pedal, because you almost feel like one being exposed front stage like that. But today- today is not that day.
It's not that you don't want to join the discussion, it's that it takes a second to warm up, to absorb the energy and become one with it.
And sometimes, all it takes is Sapnap to exclaim, “Panini head, my beloved!” for your smile synchronizes with his chuckles. Somehow, once noticed by the right person, life flows back naturally.
George and Dream greets you in trailing unison, like two kids forced to greet their unwelcomed aunt on a sunday afternoon.
“H-hey troublemakers,” you finally say. Your voice is still quiet, not reluctant, but rather uncertain. It doesn't bother anyone.
“I’m beating Dream’s ass at chess and he’s bitter,” Sap explains, and you silently nod, as if they were able to see you.
A long silence follows along, rythmed by clicks of mouses and keyboards and it falls in your ears like high droplets. It's comfortable. It's intimate, shared with friends only.
"We haven't heard from you in a while," Dream says. "I mean ... before the clout fiasco."
You wouldn't exactly call it a fiasco, even though you don't really like the idea of being perceived a little too closely from the eyes of twitter.com, but you do agree anyway, "I've been caught up on college essays lately."
"That sucks," George probably adds.
“Good thing you’re here, then,” Dream notes, simple as a breath. “This is a worry-free zone.”
It hovers for a second, carried by George’s approval hum.
You squint suspiciously, detective mode, at the profile pictures that light on and off before your eyes, “Thanks, dream.”
He scoffs a “sure” and you’re not sure why you sense a bit of irony stuck on the back of his teeth. You're so tempted to call him out, but you don't. Instead, you write a mental note of this odd moment.
“It’s because I told him about your three brothers and now he’s scared they’re gonna find him and kick his ass,” Sap explains as if he just read your mind.
Sometimes, there’s this thing in the air, though you’re miles away. Something like a connection. There’s this thing when you don’t need to talk for Sap to understand. Sharing one brain cell, you dismiss ironically. Probably coincidences and predictability, but it always sounds a little special, a little like something you’d wish to be out of this world, like morning dew and fairy circles. And it makes you feel safe, at home, just like snuggling up in the sheets during a stormy night. Your smile washes up the sleeve of your hoodie, covered palm carefully hiding your chuckles.
“Three older brothers,” George muses, and there’s no telling if it’s something meant for you to hear. “That’s kinda scary.”
“You better be scared, one of them is probably your FBI agent,” you tease mindlessly, though there's nothing scary about those three grown men.
“I’m British, Bunny,” he points out. Whether the exasperation in his tone is fake or genuine, that, you can’t tell, but you play it cool, grin carved so deep it almost hurts. Dream’s wheezes rise and fall in the background.
“Say that to his face then,” you outbid smirkingly after a second of silence, heels growing into the carpet to make your chair spin slowly left and right, so breezily.
“I’d praise you for the rest of my life if you-Oooooooh your ass is wacked. Your ass is so wacked, dude. You fucked up so bad,” Sapnap chokes out between strings of giggles.
“Oh no, my streamer is losing his game?” You theatrically pout. “My streamer Dreamwastaken, have you met him? Guess you don’t need any of my brothers to kick your ass.”
“Okay yeah- no- it’s not my fault if your- they’re distracting me, okay?” Dream defends.
Slowly, the energy lowers again and the call remembers peace as Dream admits defeat.
“I’m not playing against you anymore,” he mumbles through greeted teeth, your hoodie shelters a muffled giggle. “Let’s talk about y/n’s twitter fame instead.”
“Let’s just not-” you mutter, both because seeing Dream lose at something is a miracle that has to be witnessed once and because you’re somewhat reluctant. “Let’s just not talk about that.”
“Yeah, sorry about that. I had no idea it would draw this much attention to you,” Sap admits.
“Well, you talk about her all the time it was only a matter of time before twitter finds out,” George taunts and you secretly smile, listening to the way your best friend tries to defend himself, mind flooded with the last memories you have of when you were able to see those chuckles for real.
“Yeah, Quackity already told me you guys talk behind my back,” you fakely muse. “That’s totally fine, I don’t wanna know what you guys are talking about at all.” It’s a lie, obviously, the idea creeps upon your mind with assumptions you can’t quite get a grip of nor let go.
“You and Quackity talk?’ Sapnap asks, hint of surprise, and you hum.
“Or rather, he talks to me. He keeps calling-.” Shit. The forsaken word traps itself into your mouth. It’s too silly anyway.
“Come on, just say it,” Dream pushes as if he knew too much, more than you even do, and your cheeks flush mindlessly. You don’t notice.
“Dream, quit it!” You demand.
“Quit what?”
“You talk as if you knew more than anyone did.”
“Maybe I just do,” he coos, so dream-like.
Oblivious or careless, Sapnap asks, “Is Quackity bothering you or something?”
“He-" you begin but stop to look for the right way to put it, "He triggers my flight or fight response.”
"I mean, duh," Sapnap probably rolls his eyes.
"But I like him. He's funny."
After a second of silence, George says, “Well that was unexpected.”
“Not so much, I think we’re both chaotic neutral people.”
“What is that neutral chaotic thing anyway?” Dream is confused.
Roll up your sleeve girl boss because now is your time to shine! You offer your best dream smp alignment chart to the classroom. They're speechless, but they listen carefully.
"Then you're more chaotic good than neutral. You're too sweet anyway," Sap says.
"I'd even say lawful good," George debates.
"That's because you haven't seen Bunny during her crazy cat hour."
"True," you note.
"She'll go absolutely batshit."
“What?" George burst between confusion and surprise. "We've never seen you like that."
"A lady never reveal her secrets," you retort. No one answer.
It leaves a second for your mind to enjoy peace. For your eyes to lay on c!tubbo on lawful good and think true, then on c!dream on chaotic evil and think also very true. You huff and it's like a wave; as sarcasm leaves your breath, an idea comes in.
"Sap, check your DMs," you request.
Surrounded by the evening lull, Sapnap’s laugh pops like soap bubbles, "God, you’re so stupid. Why can't you just marry me?"
“So, is it Sapnap approved?” You chuckle lightly to prevent Sapnap’s morning fresh laugh to fill your chest and leak everywhere.
“Just press ‘send tweet’ please,” he confirms with leftovers of a smile in his voice.
"George, get me out of here. They're doing it again," Dream whines.
"Doing what?" He asks, unbothered.
"Act like they're alone in the convo. Just get a room." And you don't get to stand up for yourself that you and your best friend are actually sent to another room.
"Well this one is chaotic evil confirmed," you mumble as you roll your eyes but the vibes are much peaceful, much more comfortable in here. "So ... hi."
"Hi," he chuckles in return.
Maybe that's for the best; a moment that needs to stay a little timeless, secretive and special. It hasn't happened in so long, you don't even remember the last time it did.
"I'm glad you're here. I miss you, you know?" He says, and it's hard to not feel so bittersweet about it. It's hard when longing involves a craved touch, a real smile and an eye contact. Your shoulder sinks in the chair a little harder.
"I miss you too. I'll be here soon," you promise. And soon couldn't come any sooner.
But the conversation, soft and free, will wash up any worries, as always, and you'll end up talking about everything and nothing, about streams and planned videos and college and god knows what. As long as it makes the two of you happy and smiling. Just like the old days, you'll both think and it's fair to say until the evening turns into night and night turns into fatigue.
"Are you sure you're okay about that clout?" He asks once again. "I know you don't like being exposed like that."
"Yeah, yeah don't worry too much about it. I'll try to make good use of it."
"I'm sure you will," he murmurs, but oh boy did he not know what was about to come until you two meet.

How would they react to the new arrival ?
" Hi everybody. My name is Y/N and I am the head nurse around here. If you have any questions, you can ask them to me. I see here that two of you are transfers from St John's, so you'll be assigned to miss Harrison's department..However, I see here that mister Wendell Crumb has just been released from prison ? Who is mister Wendell Crumb ?"
A close cut man raises his hand with a slight smile.
" That would be me."
You smile back before checking something on your file.
" Fine. You'll be transferred to my department. However, I see here that you've got many names..May I ask who I am talking to ?"
Wendell Crumb suddely straightens up and stares right at you with a very unsettling smile.
" I'm Barry. Nice to meet you.."
You raise an eyebrow suspiciously before looking down at his file. Creepy smile. Judgy stare. Feminine stand..Yeah, definitely not Barry..
" I'm sorry, but in order for us to get along, honesty is the key..Now, could you please tell me who you really are ?"
The man's smile only widens as he congratulates you.
" Clever girl. I'm Patricia. Nice to meet you."
He then claps with both hands and you narrow your eyes, trying to figure the new patient out. He seems harmless enough, even though his file seems to suggest the contrary. A great pretender. After all the effort you had put in getting the patients to trust you, this one would surely bring chaos. You could already tell by just looking at him in the eyes: he wasn't here to get better.
Tumblr media
You sigh before closing the file and signaling to the patient to follow you as Harrison enters. Wendell Crumb is almost too eager to follow you. You can feel his stare on you, as if he was sizing you up and down.
" The patients are eating, I suppose it is a good time to get acquainted with them and make some new friends. What do you think ?"
You smile and try to be nice to him, but he doesn't answer. He only huffs before looking away. You open the door to the cafeteria and feel the stare of all the slashers on you and the new arrival. Patricia seems to be doing a quick assessment of each slasher before finally landing on you.
" By what I heard, I thought I would be meeting fearless and bloodthirsty demons..But all I can see is a bunch of old-timers."
Your eyes widen in shock at his words and you can see some of the slashers tense. However, far from being intimidated, Kevin widely grins and seems to slouch slightly, taking another personality you guess.
" Hi guys ! I'm Hedwig ! I'm soooo excited to meet all of you ! Patricia said you were like us ! That's like, totally cool !"
To that, Freddy is the first to answer with a mocking smirk.
" Great. Another kid..Me who thought we would finally be enough to play poker. What a disappointment..Can he at least change his own grown-up diapers ?"
Suddenly, Hedwig's joyful expression shifts to a much serious one that glares daggers at Freddy.
" What did you say, steak face ?"
Oh oh. Freddy's expression darkens and he stands up to face Kevin that only arks an eyebrow at him, a silent challenge. One that Freddy is eager to respond to.
" What did you call me, baldie ?"
But, far from feeling intimidated, Kevin only stares down at him with a little smirk.
" You heard me, midget.."
You can feel the tension rising and put yourself between the two of them promptly.
" Hey ! That's enough ! Be nice ! And you.."
You turn towards Freddy with furrowed eyebrows, clearly displeased.
"..I told you to hold your tongue with them."
Freddy only humphs unhappily before getting out of your grip and glaring at Kevin that only grins defiantly at him.
" What ? That's it ? This is the infamous Freddy Krueger ? The bringer of nightmares and slayer of children ? I must admit that I am deeply disappointed.."
Patricia, she wants to rile him up. You quickly get another nurse to get Freddy to sit back down before he gives in to his violent impulses. You then glare at Kevin before taking him by the arm for him to follow you outside of the room.
" What are you trying to do exactly ?! Get killed ?!"
But, far from feeling guilty, Kevin's grin only widens as he stares directly back at you for several seconds, as if looking deep inside your soul..At the end, he pretends to be apologetic by raising his hands in surrender and finally giving some kind of explanation for his behavior.
Tumblr media
" I'm sorry. I'm just feeling overwhelmed, garden variety issue..You understand. We mustn't let the bad seeds take roots, or we may end up with bad weed issues.."
At this, Pennywise that had followed you discreetly gets out of his hiding spot to growl menacingly at Kevin.
" Bad weed ?! Who are you calling bad weed, pal ?! I'll show you bad weed."
But one stern look from you, and Pennywise reconsiders. But, he is still glaring daggers at Kevin that only giggles maniacally while you get him back inside. However, he doesn't miss the way you instinctively hold on to the pendent hanging around your neck..What a strange necklace..? He turns his head towards the slashers that all seem on edge now, like a pack of wolves ready to attack. However, it's even worse when he suddenly takes you by the shoulders to smell you behind your ear, his gaze still fixed on the gang that seems ready to jump into action at any moment..Even Pennywise doesn't notice that he is munching on his spoon instead 9f his actual food. You try to get out of his grip, but he only tightens his grip on you as a response.
" What ? Are you all her lapdogs now ? I see the appeal..But still, to think she managed to have you all around her little finger..The strongest men on Earth, all submitting to that small bite."
As if to prove his point, he starts nibbling on the top of your ear, waiting for a reaction. However, before anyone could do anything, Kevin feels something piercing his skin and turns around to see a smirking Five with a needle in his hand.
" Nighty night."
Tumblr media
Kevin collapses and you quickly kneel by his side to take his pulse. Thankfully, he's alive and you ask some nurses to bring him back to his room. You had agreed with the hospital not to use the collars unless it was a case of extreme emergency, looks like this could be one..
" Thank you, Five. But, dont use medical supplies without my permission again, okay ?"
He doesn't lose his smile before replying casually, hands in his pockets.
" Can't promise anything.."
The slashers are still staring at Kevin that is dragged out of the room. It takes you a while to reassure them that you're fine, even longer to convince yourself. However, Five seems even more suspicious than usual, he seems to be eager to return to his bedroom, and he was late for lunch..But, you don't have the time to worry about him. You finally manage to get them all to return to their bedrooms and walk inside your own. There, you let the mask fall and collapse on your bed, burying your face in a nearby pillow in order to muffle your tears and screams. Each time, you try to contain your own fear for the safety of the patients and yourself, but just with one touch, this new individual had made all of your walls crumble. However, you have to get it together, you couldn't let the other patients see you like this..You get up and cough a bit before cleaning yourself up. You then open the door, not expecting all the patients tumbling inside as they were listening in..You sigh and pinch the bridge of your nose.
" What did I say about listening on doors ?"
They all stand up and look at everything but your face or simply try to justify themselves.
" Look, hon..We were only worried..Kinda ?"
Freddy tries to explain, but you take a big inspiration before stepping out. This is just what you needed: serial killers worrying about you.
" It's the hour of your medication. How about Michael and Five come to help me in the kitchen while you wait in the your rooms ?"
You finally decide to ignore Freddy and are surprised when Arthur takes you gently by the arm so you can look up at them.
"Hey, don't shut us down. Freddy is right, we were only worried."
You eyes soften at their genuine concern, but you quickly shake the feeling away. You had faced far worse, but this patient scared you the most..because he had attacked you as if he already knew, as if he knew who you were before you even introduced yourself. You will have to keep a close eye on that one, that's for sure. Fortunately, the patients hadn't reacted too extremely, or it would have turned bad, very very bad..You don't know why the hospital had suddenly decided to add another patient, but one thing is for sure, this new patient wasn't transferred here, he was sent here with a purpose. Now, your goal is to discover whatever purpose that is. You are on your way to his room when you realize something..You hadn't seen Jason all morning. He wasn't there for lunch either. You feel cold sweat running down your back when you suddenly hear some fighting noises. You run in the direction of the sounds and are shocked to see Jason, Five and, surprisingly, Klaus in Kevin's room. You don't have the time to ask what the last one is here that Jason takes Kevin by his shirt and throws him through the window.
Tumblr media
You look at Five for an explanation, but he doesn't look at you and looks at the broken window instead.
Tumblr media
" Did he just..?"
" Yup. He just did.."
Klaus confirms before turning towards you with a small awkward smile.
" Can someone please explain to me why a civilian is here and why Jason just threw Kevin out of the damn window ?!"
You exclaim and for once, Five is speechless and it's his brother that decides to step up to explain the situation to you.
" Hi. I'm Klaus, Five's older brother and I was about to help him escape until we heard noises of a fight outside. We got out and saw a bold man talking and fighting our dear sweet Jason that threw said man flying through the window. Literally."
Your eyes widen at the news of his planned escape and then look at Five with a confused frown. The idea of escaping wasn't what surprised you the most, but why would he want to leave now ? However, before you could ask, Jason, who is clearly upset, pushes right past you with angry groans and an uneven breathing. You give a stern look at Five, clearly signifying that this discussion isn't over before running after Jason before he could murder Kevin. When you get out, you see that all of the slashers had encircled Kevin that seems angrier than ever.
Tumblr media
" I'll kill you all !"
He shouts, but Freddy only cackles while leaning against the wall, with the sunglasses you had given him sitting on his nose, and Pennywise that has a bowl of popcorn in his hands.
" Come on, Jason ! We'll enjoy the massacre..There are no witnesses. Just show that clown who's the boss ! No offense.."
He quickly adds at the end to Pennywise that only smirks before fist-bumping him.
" None taken."
You run to stand between the two huge men that don't seem to even notice you. You look at Michael for help, but he only crosses his arms, clearly implying that he wouldn't interfere. Great..You think before turning towards the devil you know, your hands outstretched towards him.
" Stop, Jason. Please. This is not you. Whatever he told you, it is not worth this. You will be punished, severely. They will maybe not kill you, but they will lock you away, somewhere nobody will ever find you again.."
Jason seems to finally snap out of it and you smile when he takes your hand and yanks you forward with his supernatural strength. You chuckle, relieved while he hugs you. But then, you hear a loud sound behind you and turn around swiftly to see..Brahms ?! Brahms just took Kevin by the throat to crash the back of his head against the concrete and his hands are now around his throat, squeezing painfully tight. You run towards them and try to get Brahms to let go, but he only tightens his grip on him as you yell.
" Let go, Brahms ! What are you doing ?! I said let go !"
But he doesn't listen to you, even worse, he gives you a hard blow to the stomach with his elbow that knocks all air out of your lungs. However, you still find the strength to get up and this is when Brahms finally shouts furiously.
" He took my doll !"
You are surprised how he managed to form a whole sentence without stammering and also horrified by the news. Brahms' doll is Brahms' most precious possession, no wonder he wants to kill Kevin. But then, Kevin laughs and spits blood on Brahms' mask.
" Idiot. You kill me, you won't get the doll and they'll throw you in the darkest deepest hole they can find.."
You know that he is telling the truth and look at Brahms that doesn't seem to be willing to stop. You take a big breath before finally taking out the pendent they had offered you. You hold it tightly in your hand before ordering Brahms to stop.
" Stop, Brahms ! Let him go ! Now !"
Suddenly, as if under some kind of transe, Brahms straightens up and finally releases Kevin. Brahms then slowly turns towards you and walks to you until he is barely a few inches away from you and leans in so close you can hear his hectic breathing. You almost fear for your life and hold on to the pendent even tighter.
Tumblr media
However, he only humphs and walks away. You look up and, for once, see the disappointment in the different slashers' eyes. They all saw what happened, what you used to control Brahms.
" I..I didn't want to.."
But it's too late, the damage is done. The Joker, that had stayed silent so far, suddenly bursts our laughing, but it doesn't quite reach his eyes as he tells you bitterly.
" You know why Jason attacked Kevin ? Because he said that you were using us..Looks like he wasn't so wrong after all.."
He walks past you, not even giving you a second glance. You turn towards the rest of the slashers that seem either angry or even fearful of you.
" P..Penny..?"
You try to extend your hand towards Penny that is eyeing you warily and who growls warningly at you when your hand is too close. Suddenly, a hand snatches yours to yank you backwards.
" Back off, lady !"
Pennywise cautions you, his eyes glowing yellow in the dark. However, suddenly, some armed forces enter the yard and get out tazers to restrain the patients. You see one of the guards tackle Pennywise to the ground. To your horror, Penny bites the guard's shoulder that screams loudly in pain. Before you could say anything, another guard shoots some tranquilizers at the Penny that collapses.
" No..No !"
You run towards Penny and cradle his face with tears in your eyes. It wasn't supposed to go this way. What had gone wrong ? You look up at Pennywise that is now restrained and muzzled. He tries to break free to reach Penny, but the guards won't let him.
" Pennywise..I'm..I'm so s.."
But he glares at you and cuts you off harshly.
" Nah. Save your breath, princess.."
Pennywise says while eyeing you up and down with new-found disdain, even Freddy is not smiling anymore. The slashers are brought back inside with shackles and you feel your lower lip quivering. You didn't want to use the pendent, but he was going to kill Kevin and..You look back to see that Kevin is smiling. He even dares giggles when some guards come to take him away.
" Rejoice ! You are of the worthy ! You are broken !"
You don't understand and frown in confusion, but he doesn't add anything. You sigh deeply before getting back inside as well, you had to make it up to them..somehow.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
" You really think it's a good idea ? We aren't even sure that Kevin will be able to accomplish his mission."
But the woman, far from being worried, only puffs out a cloud of smoke and replies with a confident smile.
" Believe me, John. It will work..Soon, we'll have the slashers at our mercy. They'll be our little tin soldiers. And nothing will be able to stop us, brother.."

matching onesies with him.
Tumblr media
Books : Dazai | Chuuya | Oda
Shelf : Mixed
Genre : Fluff, domestic
Note : I did this of my own accord because I am, in fact, a softie
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dazai Osamu
This clingy crackhead.
Dazai will be the first to come up with the idea. It's actually a random one and he asked it so spontaneously, he doesn't expect you to actually say yes.
"Sure, why not?" You agreed.
He's both surprised and elated, and he didn't hide this reaction at all.
"Oh, darling!" He wrapped a hug around your neck. "You always revive my heart with your love!"
You both will be enthusiastic about picking the onesies and agree to surf the net instead of looking from shop to shop since Dazai is under the supervision of a certain angry Kunikida
It almost feels like babysitting. Not that you hate it right? Should you get an identical pair with different sizes? Or complementary ones?
Dazai will call the customer service to ask if they have black crow onesies since crows represent death in some cultures. The response is obviously no and it's obvious that the customer service was confused.
"That's a shame," Dazai whined disappointedly, shoulders dropping. "Wouldn't it be both cute and poetic if we had a double suicide while wearing matching crow onesie? Two achievements in one!"
At that point you wouldn't even be surprised anymore. You will just take the phone away from him to apologise and thank the customer service. You have to convince Dazai that you won't find a onesie of that kind
"Wait, don't tell me," You stared at him. "The reason you want to get onesies is just to wear a matching crow pair?"
"Is it?" He grinned mischievously. "Maybe you're right, maybe you're wrong, but I just want to match with you."
Other ADA members will wonder what you and Dazai were doing, Kunikida the most. He isn't exactly curious, more like suspicious. What's that good-for-nothing Dazai up to now?
Eventually you find a pair of identical ones. Kind of rare designs too! Guess what?
Crabs! In red! The little eyes on the hood!
It will take less than a week for the onesies to arrive in a small box. When it does Dazai will pull out a cutter so energetically Atsushi will think he's going to pull a suicide attempt with it
"AAH! Dazai-san! No!"
Nothing will happen aside from Dazai stabbing the box (while making sure he doesn't cut the onesies inside. he's good with blades, ex Port Mafia and all)
The crab pincers for your hands are soft like mittens and so smooth???? Imagine sweaterpaws but with crab pincer mittens (!!)
It will take everything in you to stop Dazai from wearing it that instant since a client Fukuzawa talked about will be coming. You will need Atsushi's help to take it off him but let's not talk about it
Both of Dazai's legs are already in the onesie too..
It seems like Kyouka wants one. Yosano and Naomi will tell Atsushi to buy the girl one and match with her
When Dazai and you go home together, he will be so excited to wear the onesies immediately. Dazai will be light on his feet.
And when you finally put yours on? Pictures. Dazai will take lots of pictures of you. You're a piece of art and he wants pictures so he can recall the image anytime
"Oh, dearest~ How is it possible for you to be so cute?" He began his dramatic poses, a hand over his head while spinning like a ballet dancer.
You both will take a lot of couple pictures.
"Love, you are so adorable I want to eat you!"
"Is it me who's cute or the crab?" You teased back.
When Dazai makes a troubled expression to answer your question, you will have to pinch him 💢
If you can cook crab soup, wouldn't it be funny to make and eat one with Dazai while wearing crab onesies? He will be so clingy when you do it, like an old school married couple; when you cook, he'll be bugging you while hugging from behind. It feels cozy, don't blame him
You have to be keen with your eyes so you won't miss Dazai secretly pouring ajinomoto to the soup. Get him a healthier diet, I'm begging you.
"Look, the crab is red like us." He pointed at the soup. "And like your face when I do this." He took advantage of you turning your head to peck your cheek.
He will also pinch your nose with his pincer mitten. "Boop!" It's a challenge. Boop his nose back.
You think he's already as clingy as he can be, huh? Wrong. You are absolutely wrong. If he previously sticks around you like a magnet, this time he's glued to you.
Even in the shared living space, he won't let you go. Is it the softness of the onesie under his touch, the warmth, or your cuteness? Well, it's all of them. What then?
Snuggles.
You both cuddle together in the futon until falling asleep together. You feel twice as warm.
He's the big spoon, let him feel the smoothness of the onesie while feeling your heat. And for once, the double suicide joke stopped for the rest of day. That's how much this impacts him, and you're proud of him.
Tumblr media
Nakahara Chuuya
Matching with Chuuhuahua in a onesie? You lucky fella.
You have to be the one initiating it with Chuuya. Baby boy will be like "Eeh?" at first. He's not against it at all but more like, confused. The request is out of the blue
"Come on, why not?" You tilt your head. "It will feel so soft to cuddle with?"
That's it, that's the spell for him to agree
Mans is a Port Mafia executive, you can't go out from shop to shop in a mall to get your onesie with his schedule, so you have to settle with online shopping with this guy too
Only when he has time to spare from beating up people
You will sit together on a couch at the headquarters once Chuuya and you don't have missions. It's a good chance to relax and unwind together too
Chuuya knows best where to find clothes, including onesies. There are so many options! Dinosaurs, frogs, bears, Sanrio characters, Doraemon, Pikachu, Line characters, pandas, unicorns, penguins!! (I should stop fantasizing Chuuya in each of them)
Chuuya will act cool and chill about it at first, but he actually got invested in choosing and thankfully he isn't a crackhead unlike a certain someone
He has a good fashion sense I don't accept criticism, and this side of him will jump out while both of you scroll the catalogue. He nails both street wear and mafia outfits daily, so you can bet he'd pick the best onesies for you both
"This one doesn't suit you," He moved to the next option. "These are the only colours available? Pass.", "What's with the unnecessarily long tail?", "Oh maybe this? Wait, I don't like the stripes."
Of course, he will listen to your opinion too but since you feel he's better at this, you just either nod or shake your head with him
You have to be careful with your words when picking the size (this is much more valid if you're taller) or he'll go "I'm not that short!"
Kouyou and Mori (+ Elise) will catch you both on the couch together while browsing, comfy and all, and Kouyou asked what you two were doing. Chuuya's face will be as red as wine.
When you want to explain, his gloved hand will cover your mouth and he frantically shakes his head, screaming "Don't!" silently.
But alas, while you want to tell him there's nothing to be embarrassed of, Kouyou will take the phone from your hand with a curious grin and a "What's this~?"
Chuuya will just accept fate at that point, growling to himself and all
Kouyou and Mori won't expect to see a catalogue of onesies, apparently. The "Huh," on their faces are hilarious, and Mori will be instantly inspired to get a full set for his Elise-chan, much to her distaste.
While Mori and Elise are going at it, Kouyou will actually share her opinions. Chuuya will crawl out from his burrow of embarrassment and listen to her with you.
"Rather than identical ones, these would be much better. They have variety." Kouyou said. And you both will agree. You both have been eyeing a specific pair anyway
You both will decide to get complementary ones! Chuuya's will be a brown teddy and yours a white bunny! (Try googling Line's Brown and Cony, they're cute you won't regret it) Kouyou will totally agree with the decision.
When the package arrives, both of you will open it together. Chuuya's eyes for clothes are never wrong, the quality is immaculate. So warm and smooth, not a seam out of place.
Imagine the blush on Chuuya's face when you put on the white bunny onesie. The bunny ears on the hood! The fluffiness! His flustered face!
He will be slightly hesitant to put his own on, but when he does, you swear you can die from the cuteness. Want to see more cuteness? Tease him about it, and maybe he'll tickle you down until you're too breathless to tease him.
Chuuya doesn't want to say it explicitly but it does feel really comfortable, it's suitable for winters too.
As usual, Chuuya will be the big spoon. You will melt into his warmth and the smoothness of his onesie, and you can tell he's enjoying it too, from the way he'll drag his hand all over you to feel the smooth fabric
"It's a good thing we listened to ane-san's suggestion, hm?" You asked. "I didn't exactly like the matching penguin pairs."
"Yeah, this isn't bad at all." Chuuya admitted, snuggling his chin into the crook of your neck. "You're so warm."
Tumblr media
Oda Sakunosuke
First off I'm Odasaku's lover before I'm anything else.
When the weather gets cold, it's your idea to get onesies for the kids. They could use some cute onesies to sleep in.
Unlike Dazai and Chuuya, Odasaku will have time to spare to go shopping with you. Being the handyman of Port Mafia has its good sides, after all.
The atmosphere is identical to a date! You both meet up at evening after work, have a simple dinner first, then start the shopping. Shopping for the kids' onesies with him makes you feel like a parent doesn't it?
Odasaku and you will make sure not to pick flimsy, thin, or rough ones. Only the best for the kids. Both of you put your keen eyes to use, examining every considered piece
Odasaku and you will definitely discuss whether to get five identical or different ones. After considering that the kids have different personalities, choosing different pieces will sound more ideal. You both will grant them the liberty of picking themselves.
"We just have to make sure they don't fight over it." Odasaku said.
Lion, dinosaur, piglet, panda, and penguin. That's what you both will choose!
Odasaku is a man who doesn't wear his emotions on his sleeves, so you relied on his eyes when it comes to him. You will see love and sincerity. He picks each piece with careful consideration.
The store clerk will throw an unexpected (yet clichéd shoujo) question at you both. "You picked such good choices. We have sets for adults too, why not match with your children?"
Odasaku and you will widen your eyes. First of all, parents? And match? Both of you stare at each other in confusion. Should you get two get a pair for yourselves?
"Why not?" Odasaku eventually said.
Odasaku's will be a brown dog and yours a white cat (remember that one official art of Odasaku with puppy ears? <3)
Odasaku and you will immediately visit the kids and give them their onesies. Their excitement in picking one for their own made you smile, and you can see the joy in Odasaku's eyes when the kids thanked him and you. He doesn't smile, but you don't need him to just to know he's glad his children love your pick. The way he pats their heads already speaks volumes of love.
Thankfully no kid wrestled to get what they want. You were especially concerned Kousuke will compete with someone
Odasaku will bring a secondhand polaroid he once bought at Yokohama's flea market to take pictures of the kids. You will herd the children to gather for the picture while Odasaku looked for the right angle in the other side of the room.
"Why don't you stay there for the picture too?" Odasaku asked you, half of his face behind the camera.
You kneel behind the kids and put your hands on Sakura and Yuu's shoulders, the ones who stood on the far left and right. That much is enough to warm Odasaku's heart, but when you too, smile for the camera, he freezes for a while to take the sight with his eyes
The picture comes out nicely. You will end up convincing Odasaku to take more but with him in it, together, all seven of you. You would need the curry diner owner's help to take the picture
"Sakunosuke, smile, will you?" You held his shoulder while you both kneeled behind the kids for the picture. He would be a little stunned
He smiles, but it was faint. Nevertheless, you recognise the content in his eyes in the photo, and it's enough.
When it's just the two of you in the living quarters, you will have to remind Odasaku that he too, bought a onesie. He will gladly put it on him since you look so eager, he's curious how it feels too
Your heart stops when he put on the hood with the puppy ears. You will have to fight back the urge to attack him with cuddles right there and then when his confused and innocent face matches the onesie so much!
"You're adorable," You smiled half teasingly, taking in the look of confused Odasaku who looked down at his onesie. The weight of the material felt right, it's like a cozy blanket.
"Try to put yours on," He says. When you did, his heart also missed a beat. The kitten ears on your head! The pure snowy white on you!
Odasaku is a bear hugger and when he hugs you, his embrace will feel tighter than usual. It's no surprise, he likes you and cats, and the way you interacted with the kids that day played tricks on his heart. You hug him back and ruffle his head while he mumbles his thank-you's at you
That night's sleep will be filled with nothing but cuddles of love and adoration. Yes, Odasaku is the big spoon, but you will also hold his arms tighter around you as you both drift into the night, chatting about life.

Who Do I Go To? (Monkie Kid Fanfic)
Tumblr media
I totally did not accidentally post this early before I edited it or added everything from my wip file... no... but anon, you gave me so much FREEDOM with this that I just went absolutely off the rails. This is not only set in a post S3 scenario where everyone survives and most of the villains have some kind of at least semi-redemption (except LBD, rip), this does feature a crackship or two of mine (you can read the tags to see the ships before you read)! Sun Wukong also has all of his immortality and some of his powers, I am writing this with the idea that he transferred most of them to MK and some of that was permanent once LBD was defeated and MK got his own back.
So... what if Sun Wukong did start communicating with the others in S3... but still has been bottling up his emotions about the past for so long he doesn’t feel he can talk to anyone because of their shared experiences? And what happens when that guilt and grief finally has someone willing to listen?
“What are you doing here, Si-SUN Wukong?” The Demon Bull King asked slowly, stumbling over his usual insult for the one once so close to him. They still weren’t close, and it was doubtful they would ever be as long as the sworn brothers they once were, but they were no longer at each other’s throats anymore.
That didn’t change how bizarre it was to see The Great Sage Equal To Heaven just... sitting outside his new home with no warning.
“DBK!” Wukong exclaimed, more startled than the larger demon was expecting as he jumped up and turned and if he didn’t look like he’d been hit with a truck metaphorically DBK didn’t know how to describe the way his fur stood on end and the redness in the other’s eyes. “I. UH. Was. Just stopping by to say hi!”
“No you weren’t,” DBK said, face falling into a deadpan glower. “You don’t do that. Even after 500 years I know you don’t.”
“I can start!” Wukong defended, crossing his arms and looking away with a wide teeth showing smile.
Too wide.
Even after everything that happened between them, from Red Boy to what happened when he needed his wife’s fan to sealing him in the mountain and everything that transpired with the Little Thief, he recognized that unhappy nervous smile.
“You can,” DBK said with a nod, gesturing to the smaller being. “You can also be here for a reason. Like what I heard you muttering to yourself behind the door.”
“And that’s my cue to leave!” The Monkey King announced as he turned to walk away before a large hand, with shocking gentleness for the one attached to it, wrapped around his shoulders.
“If you need to talk-”
“No, haha, I most certainly have no need for that!”
“-you know we’ve already made peace. I-”
“You don’t need to do anything,” Wukong insisted, struggling only a little before freeing himself from the other’s grip with an even wider nervous smile.
“-am willing to listen.”
“Don’t have to!”
“Are you at least talking to anyone?”
Neither of them said anything, The Demon Bull King staring down at The Monkey King with both frustrated annoyance and genuine concern in his expression.
The former he could deal with, but the later was so new again that...
Sun Wukong panicked.
“.... OKEY BYE!” He yelled, jumping and allowing his cloud to catch him and take him off.
"YOU CAN'T HIDE FROM YOUR FEELINGS FOREVER SUN WUKONG!"
"I HID FROM THE WORLD FOR 500 YEARS AND I TURNED OUT JUST FINE, I THINK I'LL MANAGE!"
“He turned out fine, he says,” Princess Iron Fan called from behind her husband as she emerged from their home. “So fine that it took him losing his invincibility and his successor nearly being killed for him to admit he needed help.”
DBK grunted, nodding in agreement at her words.
“He needs more, still, my dear. Even I can see that.”
“Let’s call in some reinforcements then, darling. I think there are two people who may be able to get through to him.”
~
Sun Wukong sat on the beach of Mount Huaguo’s island home, clearly trying not to think about what had just transpired.
“Hey.”
“How did you even know to look for me here?” Sun Wukong asked, not nearly as startled this time. He’d heard the footsteps coming for a long time, the other apparently wanting to make his presence known.
“Bull King called Pigsy’s asking for MK. MK called me since he’s working. I remembered where you like to sulk. Hence: I’m here.”
Wukong groaned, wrapping his arms around his knees and burying his face in them. “I shouldn’t have even left the house today.”
“But you left,” Macaque said with a shrug, watching the other stew in his frustration at himself. “And you went to see DBK... and I guess Princess Iron Fan too? But you ran off. Why?”
“I can’t check up on an old friend turned enemy turned less enemy to ‘not exactly friend but we’re not trying to kill each other’ without being questioned?” Wukong grumbled into his arms.
“Not when you make him sound as worried as he did when he talked to MK,” Macaque continued, voice becoming more tense. “You didn’t go to apologize or explain anything, I was there when all that went down. So... did you finally go to talk about everything e-”
“No.” The word was said with such coldness that Macaque knew it was put on. It wasn’t out of malice but something else, something more worried and fearful. “No. I can’t talk to him about... I told him everything that explained what happened. I apologized. I don’t need to talk more.”
"I don't understand why you're so opposed to to just talking about, you know... how you’re doing," Macaque said with a concerned frown. It almost felt odd on his face. Almost. He was still getting used to the whole "not being mortal eternal enemies and now being friends and kinda sorta caring about each other again" thing. "I know it's been centuries and all and you're out of practice but like... it's been centuries."
"I just... can't, Macaque," Wukong rebutted as he refused to lift his head from his arms. "I just can't."
"Why?"
"Don't."
The single word stayed in their air between them, heavy and hard and meaning more than the immortal would ever admit to.
"Come on, there has to be a reason," Macaque insisted as he sat down beside the other immortal. When no response came he sighed, tail flicking absently and flipping over some of the rocks on the beach as they sat in silence for few minutes. "You know... I started talking to someone."
"What?" Wukong turned his head, just enough to look at the other monkey from the corner of his eye.
“Sandy’s a good listener,” Macaque continued, falling back down to lay flat on his back and gaze up at the clouds. He remembered that Wukong felt better, sometimes, when you looked away when talked to. Didn’t know why, but he remembered. “Not exactly the kind of therapy he thinks I need, but he lends me his cats and he lets me talk and sometimes asks if I want advice. Sometimes I say yes, but when I say no he understands. Sometimes I just want to rant at that one little one eyed cat he has and she listened to... I think. She’s a cat so I wouldn’t know. He thinks I should see someone more experienced, an expert. Maybe he’s right, I dunno, but this helps enough for now.
“... who are you and what have you done with the Six-Eared Macaque?” Wukong asked with a soft glower, one that was clearly in jest from the tiny smile the other could see.
“Same Macaque,” the other said with a laugh, sitting back up with a theatrical flourish. “Just realized that talking to someone isn’t as dumb or useless as I made it out to be in my head. A lot of the stuff I thought about alone wasn’t exactly the best. Or healthiest. But now I can get that out there and sometimes it makes Sandy look like he ate a whole lime which probably means it’s good it’s not in my head anymore.”
“You ramble a lot,” Wukong said with a chuckle, tail swishing softly beside him before nudging against Macaque’s. He tensed before it slowly wrapped around the other’s. “It feels odd, having you try to cheer me up again after... everything.”
“Bad odd or good odd?”
“Good.”
“That’s.... good,” Macaque said, squeezing Wukong’s tail with his own. “Feels odd for me too. Like I’m out of practice too. But it’s good odd...” The two sat in silence for a moment, just enjoying each other’s company before he continued. “I do think you should talk to someone. Anyone.”
“I don’t know who, though. Every time I try I just... clam up and run away. I’ve put so much on MK already,” Wukong said, tail squeezing around Macaque’s loosely in return. “And Pigsy and Sandy... After all that came out, that Sandy is Sha Wujing and Pigsy is Zhu Bajie’s reincarnation... I just... I can’t talk to them either, even though Pigsy doesn’t remember anything at all. And you... DBK... everyone... who do I go to that knows enough about me to know what they’re in for but I won’t have those memories floating around in the back of my head toward making me run away?”
“Well, you could have Sandy help you get a therapist. Prepare them in advance. Or, if you’re not ready for that, you could talk to Tang?” Macaque suggested with a shrug. “He listens to me when I’m not talking to Sandy... but that’s probably because we’re dating, that’s what it is now instead of courting, right? So he kinda has to I think? Pigsy and MK talk to him too but with me I think it’s different.”
"I don't think that's how it works," Wukong said with a half hearted chuckle as he finally raised his head all the way. "Besides, I've known Tang longer."
"By like 3 months."
"3 months more is still enough to know that if he doesn't want to listen to you he won't. The man knows how to make a speedy exit."
"Guess that's one more thing that sets him apart from his great-great-great-great-great-whatever uncle," Macaque admitted with a shrug and a chuckle of his own. He squeezed his tail around Wukong's, smile softening when he felt it being returned.
“Feels... weird though,” Wukong said with a shrug. “The two of them looking so much alike.”
“Yeah, but that’s it,” Macaque rebutted. “He’s Tang Sanzang’s great-whatever nephew 5 times removed or whatever and he looks like him. Other than that? He knows pretty much all of your history. He’s mostly out of the hero worship zone but he still respects you a lot. Aside from everything that happened with LBD and MK you two have the least history out of everyone so maybe whatever’s in your head making you clam up might not stop you. And it couldn't hurt to try. It’s not therapy, it’s just talking about something that’s bothering you. Worst that can happen is you get nervous and fumble and he takes the opportunity to ask you 40 questions about the times you were almost incinerated by a baby."
"That was one time!"
~
“Uh,” Tang started, staring out the open door with wide eyes at the being before him. “Hi. I didn’t exactly expect to you see today.”
“I didn’t exactly expect to be here today,” Wukong said awkwardly, nervous smile taking over his face as his tone became far too jovial for what he was about to ask. “Macaque sent me to... talk to you. About me?” His smile drooped bit by bit as he said these words, slowly starting to lose his determination to go through with this. “Oh second thought, maybe I should-”
"No," Tang said, reaching out to put a hand on the immortal's shoulder. It was nothing, really, not to someone as strong as he was. Not when he could brush it off and walk away. Go home. Just sit on his couch and watch Monkey King The Animated Series again and just think about how no one deserved to be saddled with his problems anymore. But Wukong didn't. "Whatever it is, we’re going to talk about this now. I know I’m not trained like Sandy is, but I know how to listen. And if you need someone to listen to you, I can. You wouldn't have come here to talk if you didn't."
“... ok...” Sun Wukong said, letting Tang wrap his arm around his back and guide him inside his shared home with Pigsy and Macaque.
It was... odd. Being inside this place for the first time. He’d been outside of the door more than once, invited in as well. But never inside.
“Make yourself comfortable,” Tang said, stopping his guidance once they reached the sofa. “I’m no Sandy, but I was making myself some tea and it is a batch of his own anyway. I’ll grab us some snacks too.”
“Snacks would be great,” Wukong admitted, watching the other disappear into the house’s kitchen before he sighed and gripped his thrashing tail and muttered to himself. “What am I doing..? I shouldn’t put all this on Tang... I should have gone with Macaque’s first suggestion, I’m-”
“Do you prefer lychee or persimmon?” Tang asked suddenly, startling the immortal for the second time that day. “We’re out of peach bao, but MK’s been making them out of lots of fruits and we have so many that I was planning on eating them myself.”
The scholar returned, faster than expected, with a full tray in hand. Teapot, two tea cups, and a steamer box that presumably held the buns he was asking about.
“Uh... persimmon,” Wukong answered, and he watched as Tang poured each of them a cup of tea and removed some clearly fresh (or at least made some time earlier in the day and freshly steamed), pieces of fruit laden bao to put on a plate for his guest before taking a seat in a chair across from him. “You were... getting lunch?”
Tang shrugged, laughing as he took a bite of one of his own. “Just wanted a snack. But,” He smiled, gesturing to the Monkey King. “We’re not here to talk about snacks. What’s on your mind?”
“Awfully forward start.”
“I try to be forward with the people I consider my friends.”
“... You consider me... a friend?” Wukong asked slowly, turning the bao over in his hands. It was well made, perfect he would say. You’d think MK would have been making them all his life, not that he’d learned how to on the drone ship while on the run from an evil super demon bent on erasing his mentor from the world.
“After everything we went through, how could I not?” Tang said, putting his food down to sip his tea and then putting that down as well and looking at him seriously. “You’re here because it’s the anniversary of the day you sealed away the Demon Bull King, aren’t you?”
The bao in his hands wasn’t perfect anymore. Instead the red lychee inside dripped from his claws from where they punctured it in surprise.
“How did you-?”
“My specialty study is your history after all,” Tang said, smile returning with a sad tint. “I’ve known the date for years but I felt it was something to keep to myself. For some reason. Now with you and DBK back I think that was a good choice. It feels too personal to have out in the open for everyone to make a spectacle of.”
“Is it selfish of me to be thankful for that?” Wukong muttered, gently placing the bao on the plate to lick his claws clean.
“I don’t think so,” Tang answered.
“I feel selfish though,” he continued, not managing to take note of how Tang sat up straighter and turned more toward him. “I went to DBK’s to... I don’t know. I wanted to apologize again? But I already did and he accepted it and it feels selfish to want to again. Then I just. I froze.”
“Why?” Tang asked, scooting closer.
“It felt wrong.”
“Because you would make him feel awkward?”
“NO!” Wukong groaned, burying his face in his hands. “I just. I feel...” He took in a shaky breath, claws digging into his skin slightly.
“Don’t,” Tang’s voice came soft and closer than Wukong expected, as did the hands on his own slowly pulling his claws away from his face. “Don’t hurt yourself. And don’t bottle it up. I’ll listen to you. No matter what it is. It’s not selfish, feeling things isn’t selfish.”
“I miss it,” Wukong breathed out, shaky and choppy as his throat tightened as the words started to pour out of him. “I miss him. How things used to be between us and Iron Fan. I miss that I never got to meet Red Son when he was Red Boy. I miss Beng and Ba and Ma and Liu and how things used to be. I miss Zhu Bajie and Sha Wujing even though they’re here. I miss my Tang Sanzang. I’d been alone for 500 years and I missed so much and I did that to myself and it’s selfish to miss like that...”
He didn’t realize his cheeks were wet until his hands had been let go and one of Tang’s rubbed a cloth against them. Tang cupped his cheeks softly before wrapping his arms around him and tucking the Monkey King’s head into the space between his neck and shoulder.
“No... no it’s not. You’re allowed to miss things, Sun Wukong. Just like anyone else.”
Sun Wukong started to feel better.
He didn’t know why that was what did it, but the dam broke. It broke and his tears came pouring out as he hugged the man who reminded him so much of his Master. He didn’t know if anything he said in the mean time made any sense, if he was just blubbering and finally letting himself mourn what he’d lost and never had, but Tang didn’t ever chastise him. He let him weep and hold him and for the first time in years...
~
“Oh!” Princess Iron Fan startled as she opened the door to see who had knocked, finding herself face to face at sunset with one Great Sage. “You’ve returned.”
“Are you and DBK free?” Sun Wukong asked, smile no longer too wide. “I... kinda just wanna talk with you for a bit.”
“Well... I think that would be lovely.”

♡ before the relationship ♡
you shared a mutual friend but didn't know much about each other
ngl xiaojun probably had a crush on you since the first day he got to know you
he'd always heard things from your shared friend about you and thought you were great
so by the time you actually met each other at the mutual friend's party, he was really nervous to meet you bc of his crush
he was super shy but you were really kind to him which only increased his crush
you hung out with xiaojun and your friend more, and then eventually just xiaojun
the more time you spent together, the more you got to know each other and the more comfortable and relaxed he became
and you developed a crush on him too because he was just heaps of fun
tbh i can see xiaojun confessing to you first
HEAR ME OUT
so the rest of wayv know about his crush on you and they convince him to tell you
and so he does but the whole time he's nervous and lowkey awkward about it
"funny story, i-i actually kinda like you 🙂👉👈"
like it takes him about five minutes to actually spit it out and tell you
and he's shaking and sweating the whole time lol
"it's okay xiaojun, i like you too"
from then on you were dating!
♡ becoming comfortable/humour ♡
you thought xiaojun was shy and quiet when you first started dating
how wrong you were
don't get me wrong, he is totally an introvert when he's with strangers
but when he's with people he's comfortable around...oh lord
generally speaking, xiaojun is pretty calm on his own
but he will 100% join in on your or wayv's bullshit without hesitation
so if you're in a calm mood so is xiaojun
but if you're in a crackhead type mood, the older members of wayv are in for a treat
giggle fits for days
you love to tease him just because his reaction is so funny
your jokes are not funny, and xiaojun let's you know this
"WOW Y/N HA HA HA YOU'RE SO FUNNY"
but sometimes he humours you and banters along
xiaojun be on some terrible dad joke type beat
i have no evidence to back that up
it just feels like he has an obscure sense of humour
but you love it
most of the time though you like to team up and tease the other members
well, more accurately, you like to help xiaojun defend himself against wayv's teasing lol
when you both are in a calm mood it's so peaceful
you can sit in silence in each others presence for hours, each doing your own thing
sometimes you could spend the whole time just hanging out and the first thing you'd say to each other in ages would be "so what do you want for lunch?"
omg so cuddling with xiaojun!! my dream!!
i think he would lean towards wanting to be the big spoon
i also think he would be fine with you just flopping down and lying on top of him lol he'd probably think it was cute
omg can you imagine him just stroking your hair until you fall asleep
he'd be so warm and humming quietly near your ear to soothe you
and you'd fall asleep to the sound of his voice
ugh a girl can dream right
♡ relationship with other members ♡
xiaojun is like the middle child of wayv that gets teased relentlessly
so when he started dating you that gave the members another thing to tease him about
he tries to be really romantic and sweet towards you which you find really cute
but wayv like to clown him for it
eg screaming like little girls when he says something sappy or remotely romantic
they like to say stuff like "damn how did xiaojun end up with someone like you??"
but they mean it as a joke bc they do love xiaojun
the worst thing the older members can do though is leave you, xiaojun, hendery, and yangyang in the same room unattended
i don't think i even need to explain why this is a terrible idea
overall wayv think you're heaps of fun and a good match for xiaojun
♡ jealousy/pda/flirting ♡
xiaojun gives me jealous vibes
he'd be embarrassed for being jealous, but he would also let you know he is
if one of the members were flirting with you, even jokingly, he would straight up tell them to stop doing that
if it was a stranger he'd likely let you deal with it, but then tell you afterwards how jealous it made him
it's kind of attractive though? knowing that your boyfriend is a lil possessive of you and will give you heaps of cuddles and kisses afterwards
for some reason i feel like xiaojun wouldn't really mind pda?
if you wanted to give him a kiss on the cheek in public he'd let you
and he would definitely want to hold your hand or have you close
he'd only get embarrassed if you were super obvious about it
so he vibes with lowkey pda but nothing more
xiaojun is more romantic than a cheesy flirter
if he pulls some cringey lines it's because he genuinely thinks it's good flirting, rather than doing it to make you laugh
he prefers to show you how much he loves you rather than tell you
and if you were to flirt with him, he wouldn't know how to act
he would become a massive stuttering, blushing mess
"wow y/n you're such an embarrassing flirter"
but he secretly loves it
♡ disagreements? ♡
ugh xiaojun is just so perfect
everything he does is great
so i can't even comment on possible disagreements you'd have because i can't think of any flaws he has
♡ dates/texting/social media ♡
he prefers low effort dates
if you want to do something extravagant he's usually down, as long as you organise it lol
but he enjoys just being with you, so he'd count watching a movie in the dorm as a date
he's always romantic though and buying you stuff that reminds him of you
pretty jewellery, flowers, stuffed plushies etc
he's a very emotional guy
so he likes to have deep conversations with you about his feelings
it always makes him a little nervous to open up but he knows you won't judge him and will listen to his feelings
and he's always checking in with you to make sure you're comfortable in the relationship too
just imagine xiaojun trying his best to be the best boyfriend possible
like he doesn't have a lot of experience and you're his first serious relationship, but everything he does is so thoughtful
🥺💕
xiaojun would miss you heaps when he was away
he's really good at texting you at almost the same time every day to check in
loves facetiming and listening to you talk
or he'll be excited to show you a new song he learned so he'll sing for you omg
he also rings you whenever he's having self doubt or worrying about something and he needs encouragement
and you have no problem boosting his confidence and telling him how talented his is
if he prefers you're happy to talk about random things to take him mind of the problems he's having
around 60% of his social media is you/selfies with you
luckily for you he sends the picture to you before posting it to make sure you like it
and if you think you look bad in it he won't post it because he doesn't want to embarrass you or make you feel insecure
he will also comment on all your pictures you post
he will either post a funny comment or something like "😃👍" LMAOOO
♡ languages/"i love you" ♡
xiaojun prefers to speak with you in chinese (mandarin/cantonese)
although he has the basics of korean down and tbh his english doesn't actually seem that bad, so he'd probably learn those for you if need be
i think he would rather teach you chinese instead of learning a language himself lol
and he'd be a very encouraging teacher too
maybe confusing and not very clear
but supportive and that's what counts haha
you're the first one to say "i love you"
and i do not blame you at all
let's just admit that we're all whipped for xiaojun
when you say it, you actually shock xiaojun into silence
tbh, he's been wanting to say the exact same thing to you for ages but never had the balls to do it
so he's proud that you said it? but he also gets really flustered and blushed
but he's super flattered and thinks it really sweet you said it first
he'd probably go all shy and say something like "oh, thank you"
and a few days later he'd say it back to you before giving you a big ole kiss
*sigh* i really love xiaojun
stan wayv or else you're a cockroach

Show : Doom at your Service
Myul Mang / Kim Saram x Dong Kyung
Setup : Kim Saram falls sick for the first time in his life. Thankfully Dong Kyung is there to take care of him
Concept suggested by : @dizistyles ❤
"Hello? You there ? "
Dong Kyung walked across her room , speaking into her phone and waiting for him to reply. It was already late at night and ever since he turned into a human, he would often fall asleep without warning.
She chuckled, imagining how sweetly he might be cuddled up in the bed.
"You're asleep. Good night Kim Saram.." she said before cutting the call.
Dong Kyung walked back to her laptop to note down whatever information she had just taken down for her novel.
She woke up the next day , expecting to get a call from him. She impatiently kept checking her phone , but all in vain. There was absolutely no news of him.
But he had promised to drop me to work today - She wondered.
When it was about time he should have come to pick her up, she instantly felt anxious.
Did he disappear? Was it a dream? Was it all a dream?
She panicked and quickly dialed his phone number with shivering hands.
Pick up! Please.. please pick up! - She begged.
.
.
"Hello?" His voice was weak but felt like a blessing to her ears.
She took a sigh of relief.
"Are you okay?? Why didn't you come ?" She asked trying to calm herself down.
He suddenly realized that he had been asleep all this while and it was late already.
"I... I'm.." he couldn't speak properly.
"Saram? .. are you okay ?" She started getting worried.
He slowly sat up on his bed and squeezed his eyes.
"I don't feel good." He said in a low voice.
That was enough for Dong Kyung to immediately pick up her bag and leave for his house. Not that she was just worried what might be wrong, but she was always anxious about his disappearance.
Saram held his head in his palms and groaned in pain.
"Ahhhh! Why does it feel so bad " he said to himself.
Ofcourse he was a doctor, and he knew everything about the human body. But only in theory.
He kept whining about the situation when Dong Kyung crashed into his room. His face lit up instantly.
"Saram.. are you okay ??" She said, running towards him.
"Ya.. i am fine.. i think i have what you call a... 'headache' " he said with a forced smile, he felt terrible from inside.
Dong Kyung could see the bizarre look on his face and immediately understood that he was not well.
"Hey! Don't lie to me.." she said, sitting next to him and caressing his cheek with her tiny fingers.
She jumped in horror. His skin was burning with fever.
"YA! Saram! You are burning!" She shouted feeling panicked.
He looked at her with a confused and dull look. He felt strange, sleepy, heavy on the head and weak.
"Burning ? " He said touching his face. "Aah.. so I have a 'fever' ?" He asked sounding curious.
Dong Kyung rolled her eyes and pressed her foot hard on the floor.
"How can you not know that you have a fever, when you are a doctor by profession?" She taunted.
"I've seen sick people but i haven't fallen sick myself.. how would I know how it feels ?" He said with a straight face as if it was so obvious.
Dong Kyong shook her head and stood up from the bed to leave.
He immediately held her hand back.
"Where are you going? Don't leave me... I'm sick ." He pleaded like a child.
Sometimes he was such a baby and she couldn't help but love him even more. She smiled at him warmly.
"I'm going to get you a medicine" she informed.
"Oh okay.." he said , releasing her hand immediately.
She chuckled at his tantrums and turned around to leave but he called out to her again.
"Dong Kyung..i also feel.. numb .. as if I have no energy.. as if I can't stand ? Or walk? Is that what you call 'weakness' ?" He asked, inquisitively.
She turned towards him and sighed.
"Yes... you're feeling weak because you are sick. You have a headache, you will feel dizzy, sleepy and lazy"
"Woah! You know a lot about being sick." He exclaimed.
Dong Kyung rolled her eyes and sighed helplessly. He was impossible
"I'll be right back" she said before walking out.
By the time she returned, he had covered himself with a blanket and fallen asleep.
She quietly kept the medicine and a glass of water next to him on the table. She sat beside him and caressed his temple.
"You look so cute when you are asleep" she said softly.
"I know " he replied, with his eyes closed.
She frowned and hit him on the forehead.
"Kim Saram! Don't put on an act, get up and take your medicine if you are awake. "
He smiled and held her hand, slowly sitting up.
"But I haven't eaten anything.."
"That's why I made you something. Eat it. Have medicine and take rest."
"Ah.." he looked at the breakfast kept next to him. ".. that is what my wife would do...wait ...is that a proposal? I say Yes .. lets get married today?" He exclaimed.
She pushed him back with a shy smile.
"Just do what I said"
He frowned at her and unwillingly went ahead to have his breakfast, but it felt terrible to sit and eat. He felt dizzy and lethargic.
"Ah.. i don't want to eat Dong Kyung.. can't i just sleep?? This feels so terrible.." he complained .
She immediately took the plate in her hand and started feeding him herself.
He smirked and happily took a bite without question. Was there any point saying No to her?
"If you don't eat, how will you get better? Don't you know .. Doctor??" She mocked.
He chuckled and continued to take bites, without moving his eyes away from her face. He couldn't thank the Goddess enough for letting him see her again.
After she was done, she handed over a tablet and a glass of water to him.
"Have this. I'll be back " she said before leaving with the plates.
By the time she returned, she had expected him to be done with the medicine, but she found him sitting and staring at the tablet instead.
"What ? " She asked.
He looked up at her with an innocent smile.
"I haven't taken a tablet ever before... does it pain?" He asked.
Dong Kyung chuckled.
"Haven't you seen your patients take it? Do they cry?"
"No"
"Then just swallow it with water. It doesn't hurt" she said, smiling at him.
"What if it gets stuck in my throat? Will I die ?"
"It won't. Just gulp it down."
"Okay.." he nodded and took the tablet as if it was the biggest stunt of his whole life.
"Goshh! How could you be a doctor.?" She wondered.
"Aaachooo" he suddenly sneezed and felt shocked. " What was that " he said to himself.
"Aaa.. I see.. you got wet in the rain last night didn't you? Now you're sneezing." Dong Kyung explained.
"Woah! It felt weird.. it was so sudden.. is that how you feel when u sneeze ??" He asked.
Dong Kyung laughed seeing him experience all such things for the first time in his life. She somehow felt satisfied that he was totally a human now.
She carefully made him lie down on the bed and sat next to him with a piece of cloth and bowl of water.
"What are you doing?" He asked.
"It will help to get your fever down quicker" she said.
"I know that. But you don't have to do it  .. I am fine. Aachooo! ......Yaaa! ....That feels bad" he said.
She giggled and continued to wet the cloth and put it on his head until his fever was down. He kept looking at the calmness on her face and felt his pain fade away.
Hardly did he know when he dozed off.
Dong Kyung kept looking at his innocent face and recalled how he used to be few months ago. How he was simply existing, neither alive nor dead. But today he was living and experiencing everything he had ever wanted.
She quietly walked to the other side of his bed and laid down next to him, running her fingers through his soft hair.
"I love you so much..." she whispered and shut her eyes, feeling his cheeks against her palm.
He felt better when he opened his eyes after having a good rest. He still felt a bit weak but mostly fine. He tried to move his head when he realized that someone was sleeping cuddled up in his arms.
He could feel her silky hair touching his chin when he looked down. She was sleeping peacefully against his chest and in his embrace. He couldn't help but smile and blush.
"You're so small.." he chuckled, and caressed her head.
She moved her head up slowly and spoke with her eyes half open.
"Are you feeling better ?"
"Yes ...with you in my arms, I feel way better " he said.
She felt shy and immediately tried to get herself out if his grip but he held her back.
"Don't go..I'm sick.." he said, but his look was rather intense than mischievous.
She felt a familiar tension in the air with the fire he had in his eyes and unknowingly approached his lips. Without wasting a second, he kissed her back gently.
She wrapped her arms tighter around him and he brushed his fingers on her cheeks. They kissed for a while and parted.
Dong Kyung was left flustered, while Saram smiled satisfactorily. He turned around and picked up the tablets kept next to his bed.
Handing over the tablets to her he spoke.
"Now you'll need this too ..." he chuckled.
"Just shut up. Creep! Why did you kiss me ?" She complained.
"I kissed you?? You approached first..."
"No..what do you mean ..?"
Their kisses might last for seconds, but their bickering knows no end.
A/N : That's all folks. I hope I did not bore you ☹ Sorry if there were silly mistakes 🥲 Didn't proof read it 😶 I wanted to write more but my office people are cruel 💔💔 I wish I could make it better, but that all I could do this time 😅 Thanks @dizistyles for the suggestion, I loved writing this. 💙

That's Not What I Meant!
When faced with the realization you accidentally asked someone out when you just wanted to hang out should you:
A: Explain the situation
B: Pretend you're not home and hope they leave
Or
C: Panic and just get ready for a date anyways and pray they never find out this wasn't what you meant
Fandom: Yu Gi Oh GX
Rating: G
Pairing: Aster/Jaden
Word count: 1,222
(Cross posted on AO3)
"What do you mean a school dance?"
"Junko and Momoe saw them in some movie and made a petition to get Duel Academy to have one," Alexis shrugs.
"Are you going?" Jaden asks.
"Yeah, Chazz asked me to go when he heard and I panicked so I said yes."
"Well I don't think I will be, I've got two left feet!" Jaden laughs.
"Come on, Jaden, it could be fun," Alexis insists.
"I'll just hang with Syrus and Hassleberry instead."
"Sy has a date actually."
"He does?!"
"That's what he said."
"Guess it'll just be me and Hassleberry then."
"Also no. I think Momoe actually asked him."
"Do they even like each other?"
"I have no idea."
"Guess I could see if Aster wants to hang?"
"Okay..."
"What's wrong, Lex?"
"Nothing, don't worry about it, you have fun hanging out with Aster."
"Okay, I will!"
~~~
"Hey Aster, glad I caught you! I had something to ask you!" Jaden catches up to Aster outside of the main building.
"What is it?" Aster stops and crosses his arms.
"There's a school dance later this week and I was wondering if you--"
"Oh, I think I know where this is going, Jaden."
"You do?"
"Yeah. And I guess I agree, since you took the time out of your day to come ask me personally!"
"Oh, awesome! See you Friday then?"
"Of course, don't wear something that's going to embarrass either of us though."
"I...wasn't planning on it?"
~~~
Friday rolls around and Jaden is hanging out in his dorm waiting for Aster to come hang out, Hassleberry's already left with Momoe and Syrus swore his date was meeting him at the dance.
A knock comes from the door and Aster's voice rings out, "Hey, Jaden, are you ready?"
"Ready for what?" Jaden opens the door and finds Aster even more dressed up than normal.
"Oh-"
"You're not seriously planning to wear That to the dance are you?" Aster crosses his arms.
"Th-the dance?"
"Did you forget it was tonight or something?"
"Forget?...Yeah! I totally forgot! I'm so sorry, I'll go...get dressed!"
"Typical Jaden.." Aster huffs as the door closes.
"I don't have anything to wear to the dance! Especially not when I'm taking Aster!" Jaden panics, looking through his clothes.
"What's going on in there?" Aster hollers, rapping on the door again.
"Can I just meet you there actually? It's gonna take me a while to get ready and--uhm..."
"Fine, but if you don't show I'll be mad!"
Jaden waits for Aster to be a ways away before taking off for Chazz's dorm and hopes him and Alexis haven't left yet.
"Chazz please open up it's a huge emergency!" Jaden bangs on the door roughly.
"What's your problem, Slacker?" Chazz opens the door with a scowl, dressed up almost as much as Aster was.
"I don't have anything to wear to the dance, please, can I borrow something? Anything?"
"Lexi said you weren't going."
"I wasn't planning on it but--"
"I don't care for the whole story, you have until Lexi shows up to see if you can find something, and only because you seem desperate."
"Thank you! You're a lifesaver, Chazz!"
"Hurry."
Jaden comes in and heads straight for the closet in hopes of finding anything he can wear.
He eventually pulls out a pure black suit similar to the one Chazz is wearing, except there doesn't seem to be any tie to go with it.
"This okay to take?" Jaden holds it up.
"Whatever just g-"
"Are those flowers?"
"TAKE THE STUPID SUIT AND GO!"
Jaden tries to get dressed as fast as he can, but with his detour to find a suit he's kept Aster waiting for...way too long if the look on Aster's face is anything to go off of.
Not too mention the suit is a few sizes too small, which Aster's also not gonna be happy about...
"Hey, sorry for the wait...I had a wardrobe malfunction.." Jaden laughs nervously.
Aster face softens and he laughs too, "At least you actually showed, I was starting to think this was a prank, or something stupid like you weren't trying to ask me out and this was all a miscommunication."
Jaden laughs nervously, way louder than he means to and shakes his head, "Where would you get a crazy idea like that?"
Aster laughs again and holds a hand out to Jaden, "Well, this is dance, we should...probably dance, huh?"
"Oh...uhm...I'm not a good dancer."
"That's okay, you can't be worse than.." Aster points to where Bastion and Tania are ”dancing” Or...Tania is dancing, Bastion is just holding on for dear life.
Jaden feels a little more confident and takes Aster's hand hesitantly, moving closer.
"You don't even have to do that much, I can lead."
Jaden hesitated to put his free hand on Aster, not knowing the appropriate place to do so, until Aster takes it and puts it on his shoulder.
"You don't have to be nervous, Jaden, I was happy you asked me of all people to come with you."
Jaden manages to bite his tongue before he can blurt out that it wasn't his intention to ask Aster out at all, and instead swallows his nerves to ask "Really?"
Aster pulls him closer, wrapping one arm around Jaden's waist, "Yeah...I uh...actually didn't even know if you liked...you know...guys..."
Jaden goes to lean closer to Aster when Ms. Fontaine walks by and calls, "Hey now! Arm's length!"
They both jump a little away from each other and look down to the floor when they realize how close they'd actually gotten.
Aster laughs a little, "This is so awkward-"
"Oh thank goodness you said it I was worried I was the only one," Jaden drops his hands off of Aster.
"Why don't we just go back to your dorm and like...duel or something?"
"I thought you'd never ask!" Jaden grabs his hand to lead Aster out.
~~~
Aster and Jaden had 10 duels, 5 wins each, and ended up falling asleep in the middle of a tie breaking 11th.
Which is what Hassleberry and Syrus walk in to see, the two asleep on the floor with cards spread out around them.
"I guess the dance didn't go well for them," Syrus hums.
"At least his date showed up...and was real," Hassleberry jabs.
"I told you, she had to do something last minute!"
That wakes the other two up.
"Oh, I'm sorry-"
Jaden yawns, stretching out, "Its fine, Sy! I should probably sleep in a bed anyways!"
"And I should probably head back to my room," Aster adds.
Him and Jaden go about cleaning up their cards when they both lean forward at the same time and Aster moves to whisper in Jaden's ear, "Lex told me you just wanted to hang out, not go to the dance."
"YOU KNEW?!" Jaden cries, dropping his cards again.
Aster starts laughing, "Yeah. I did. I just wanted to see what you'd do."
Jaden crosses his arms and pouts, until he gets a kiss on the cheek, "But, I'd love to go on another ”accidental date” if you wanna."
"I'm game!"
Aster laughs and leaves, waving at Jaden's roommates.
"Of course, even getting dates comes easy to Jaden.." Syrus pouts.
Chapter Forty Five
Pairing: Gojo Satoru x Fem!Reader
Show & Tell Masterlist
A few days after Gojo had offered you to move in with him, you begin to pack up your room. Kugisaki comes in with some cardboard boxes, Megumi right behind her with a bored expression on his face.
"It's not fair," Kugisaki sighs. "I can't believe you're leaving us!"
"Y/N isn't a student here. There's no reason she should be living in the dorms," Megumi reminds her.
"Yeah, I know, but I still don't want her to leave!"
"It's not like we're never going to see her anymore," Megumi groans in annoyance.
Just then, Yuuji barges in. "Yeah, that's because Y/N is moving in with Gojo-Sensei!"
You stop folding the clothes in your dresser as the words fall from Yuuji's mouth. You decided not to tell the first years about moving in with Gojo because you weren't exactly sure how to handle it... Apparently, Gojo thought differently.
"How'd you find out about that?!" you ask him.
"Gojo told me," he shrugs as though it wasn't a big deal.
"That idiot," you sigh to yourself.
"Why don't you look happy, Y/N?" Yuuji asks. "It's cool 'cause it's like you're official now!"
You chuckle at the fact you're still accepting advice from first-year high school students. "Uh, I really don't think that's how it works..."
"It is," Kugisaki nods wisely. "Sensei always talks about you when you're not around. And the way he talks, he totally wants you to himself! Otherwise, he wouldn't want you to live with him before you find someone else to live with," she chuckles.
"It was horrible phrasing, but she's not completely wrong," Megumi chimes in.
Kugisaki nods proudly this time and places her boxes onto your bed. "That doesn't mean you actually have to move in with him and leave us, though. You could always just stay here instead."
"Agreed!" Yuuji emphasizes as he places his boxes beside hers.
You smile to yourself as you take a pile of your folded clothes and place them into a box.
"I'm sure you'll be seeing enough of me. I actually have a bit of news for you..."
I wasn't going to say anything yet, but since Satoru beat me to the 'moving in with him' news, I might as well get to tell them this first.
The three of them look at you inquisitively, curiously trying to figure out what you're going to say.
"Principal Yaga offered me a job once I get my teaching certification!" you explain.
"That's awesome, Y/N!" Yuuji beams.
Kugisaki hugs you, relief clear in her face as she lets out a sigh. "So you really aren't leaving us!"
You smile as you hug her back, only fading when you catch the serious look on Megumi's face.
"Is that what you really want to do?" he asks a bit worriedly. "Teach?"
"I do," you nod. "Without a teacher like Gojo, I wouldn't have been able to accomplish everything I have. There could also be people like me out there, too, and I want to do what I can to help them if it's possible!"
That doesn't mean I don't want to save people, like that boy we buried a while back but I want to save people in a way that they can be strong enough to stand up for themselves!
The sound of clapping then fills your ears. You and the first years look towards the door to find Gojo leaning to the side of the door frame with his arms crossed.
"Yo," he smiles as he stands up properly. "That was a nice speech, Y/N."
"Do you need something?" you sigh. He wasn't supposed to come collect your things for another half hour. He is seriously impatient.
"I wanted to tell you to hurry up 'cause I want to bring you back to my place," he says a bit too honestly, resulting in a disgusted look on Megumi's face.
"'Our place'," Kugisaki corrects her teacher. "You should say 'our place' now, Sensei."
"You're right," Gojo clears his throat. "Hurry up, 'cause I want to bring you back to our home, Y/N."
You can't pinpoint exactly what it is about him saying that, but it's got you absolutely weak in the knees. Luckily, Megumi ruins the moment before you have the chance to a fool out of yourself.
"Gross," he comments plainly before walking towards Gojo in an attempt to leave the room.
Gojo pats him on the shoulder, whispering something that you can't quite hear, but results in a somehow even more disgusted look on poor Megumi's face. After that, you, Yuuji, and Kugisaki work quickly together to help you finish packing. The two of them complain a bit here and there occasionally, but you really don't mind it. Besides, it's not like you can blame them. You will miss getting to see them as often as you have been since you moved in.
Tumblr media
Finally, you get into Gojo's house. And the moment you do, your mouth almost drops on sight.
It's fucking huge!
"Where the hell do you get the money to pay for all this crap?!" you say, mostly just thinking aloud.
"Don't worry about it," he nods. "Come on, this way!"
As he leads you through the house, it somehow just gets bigger and bigger. Each room you walk into seems larger than the last. How can he even call this a house? It's more like a mansion! The likes of which you've never even been inside before.
"I've never lived in a place like this before," you comment, completely gobsmacked. "It's way different from the orphanage, my old studio apartment, and the dorm room!"
"I hope it doesn't make you feel too uncomfortable," he says with a hint of concern.
"No, of course not!" you shake your head. "I really appreciate you having me here!"
"Good," he smiles. "I'm glad to have you here, too."
Once you make your way to a large pair of double doors, Gojo pushes his way through and places the last of the boxes down beside the others he'd already placed. You take a moment to admire the large bedroom you now find yourself standing in.
Gojo takes you by your hand and spins you around gently to lace his fingers in with yours.
"Seriously, I am happy you decided to move in with me," he says honestly.
You smile, a bit taken back and flustered for a moment that he actually admitted it.
"And I'm happy you invited me."
Don't tell me not to worry
Word count: 1722 words
Requested by @sunwardsss : Can you do comfort 38 and 43 for Chase please? 38: “I’m in the hospital.”43: “You don’t have to sleep here just because I got admitted.”
Pairings: Chase Stokes x Reader; Chase Stokes x Rudy Pankow; Rudy Pankow x platonic!reader
Warnings: Hospitals,seizures,Fluff,bad spelling and grammar
Note from author: so this is actually based on a seizure episode I had. It only happend one time and was caused by strep throat which triggered a reaction in the auto immune disorder (the disorder basically is that instead of my immune system attacking the virus or illness, my immune system attacks my brain causing all sorts of weird things to happen. When I was younger only strep throat triggered a "flare" of increased symptoms ie ocd,anxiety,age regression,mood swings,foggy brain and other things. Sadly the disorder has developed so that I flare with any illness, not just strep) ANYWAYS 😂 I hope you enjoy this Fluff with a tiny pinch of angst. Just a tiny bit if you squint. Ace is my nickname for Chase and I've used it in other blurbs. I just think it's cute. Kinda like how I call Rudy Panky🙃
Chase was wrapping up a day on set, shoving all his belongings into a backpack. He slung the backpack over his shoulder and grabbed his keys ,leaving his casting trailer when his phone started ringing. He just realized he hadn’t heard from you all day. Seeing your name flash across the screen, he stopped in his tracks and answered. “Hey baby girl! I haven’t heard from you all day!” Chase exclaimed as he started to kick a rock around with his foot. “Sorry Ace. Please don’t freak out.I’m totally fine now but I'm in the hospital.” you explained slowly. Chase’s eyes grew large as he starred jogging to his car. "Don't tell me not to worry baby! Where are you? What happened?" Chase asked as he reached his car and fumbled with the keys, trying to move quickly in his panicked state. He swore under his breath as he dropped his keys and put you on speaker phone while he picked up his keys. You heard the rustling on the other end of the phone and grew nervous. "Chase! Babe are you OK? Calm down I promise I'm OK!" Rudy just so happened to be walking to his car when he heard your voice and saw Chase cursing at his car keys. "Hey dude! What's going on? You OK?" Rudy asked as he walked over to Chase. "Rudy! Y/n's in the hospital and I need to...I just can't.." Chase stuttered. Rudy grabbed the keys out of his hands. "I'll drive. You just talk to her." Rudy threw his stuff in the back of Chase's car as he hopped into the drivers seat and Chase ran around to the passenger seat. "OK sorry babe. Rudy is driving cause you're freaking me out. What happened?" Chase asked, running his hand through his wavy hair as Rudy pulled out of the set parking lot. "Thanks for taking care of him Rudy! I swear I'm fine! I'm at St. Marcus hospital. I think it's pretty close to town." Rudy picked up his phone and pulled up directions on his GPS before placing his phone in the cup holder so he could see the map. "No problem hun! Now tell us what happened before Chase pulls his hair out." Rudy answered ."Yeah you're scaring the shit out of me,Baby girl." Chase let out a breathy giggle.
"OK. Well I had my mom over and we were just hanging out watching TV and everything went black. Everything sounded echoey and I tried to open my eyes but it was like i had no control. I started convulsing and got sick. Mom called an ambulance and they brought me to the ER. The Er sent me here so I've been in the ambulance twice today!" You sighs. Chase nervously picked at his lips. "So what does that mean? Like did they run any tests yet?" Chase asked as Rudy broke a few traffic laws to get him to you quicker. "They have me hooked up to all these monitors and I'm going for an MRI tomorrow. The doctor said I most likely had a seizure." You explained as you looked at all the wires and iv lines covering your body. Chase let out a breathe that he didn't know he was holding. "OK baby. We will figure this out! Rudy, how far away are we?" Chase looked over at the blonde with red eyes, on the verge of tears. "It's right up here on the left." Rudy mumbled as he leaned over the steering wheel to make sure it was clear to turn. "OK babe. We just pulled into the parking lot. Where do I go?" Chase asked as he unbuckled his seat belt. "I'm on the 7th floor room 54." You said yawning. Rudy pulled up to the main entrance and stopped the car. "Go ahead man. I'll park the car and meet you up there." Rudy explained as Chase gave him a quick hug and jumped out of the car and jogged to the entrance. "OK I'm getting in the elevator now. Ill see you in 2 seconds OK? I'll be right there!" Chase babbled on as he put the phone up to his ear, taking it off speaker. "So how was work?" You asked trying to distract him a little. "Y/n as much as I wanna tell you about my day, I can't remember shit right now." Chase smirked as you hummed in response.
The elevator dinged and Chase got off the elevator and walked up to the nurses station. He put his phone on his shoulder so he wouldn't look rude for not giving the nurse his full attention. "Hello miss! My girlfriend is here somewhere. Room 54. Her name is y/f/n y/l/n. I can give you her birthday if you want to verify I'm not some weirdo." Chase said talking a mile a minute. The nurse just smiled and got up from her desk. "You must be Chase! She told us you were coming! Said you'd be the tall surfer guy with the chocolate brown eyes. Follow me." The nurse smiled before walking down the hall with Chase on her heels. She got to a door and knocked lightly before opening it. "Hey y/n! Surfer boy is here!" The nurse giggled as Chase walked through the door and the nurse closed it behind him. You were laying in the hospital bed with leads attached to your chest and stomach. You also had an iv in her arm and a couple stickers with wires on her head. Upon seeing Chase, you total lost all your composure and started sobbing. Chase rushed over to your side and gently hugged you close. "It's OK baby. I'm here. I've got you." Chase cooed as tears started to run down his face. You scooted over on the bed making room for Chase to lay down. He carefully made sure all the leads were out of the way and nothing was being pulled before tucking you into his chest. " It was so scary! I didn't know what was happening or why." You sniffed as you snuggled into his chest. "Shhhh. It's OK now. It's over. You're here now ad we will figure out what happened and why. Just relax baby." Chase cooed as he rubbed your back. A soft knock made you jump in your sleepy state. Chase said come in before kissing the top of your head, noticing the jolt of your body at the sudden noise. Rudy entered the room with Chase's backpack on his shoulder. "Hey y/n. How you feeling, sweetheart?" Rudy asked in a soft voice as he crouches down next to the bed. "I'm exhausted and confused as to what happened but I feel ok. Thank you for making sure Ace got here OK. I really appreciate it." You said while reaching out to grab Rudy's hand. "No problem at all! JD is coming to pick me up so Chase's car is here." Rudy explained before putting Chase's backpack down. "I thought you might want your bag." Rudy nods to Chase as he stands up. "Thanks man. I owe you one." Chase bumped his fist to Rudy's. "No you don't! You would have done the same for me. You rest up OK y/n? Don't let this guys puppy energy keep you up." Rudy said pointing between the two of you, which made you let out a small chuckle. "He smells like the ocean and is warm. I think I'll have no trouble falling asleep." You mumbles as you snuggles into Chase's chest again. Chase smirks ,holding you close. Rudy's phone dings and he waves good bye so he doesn't disturb the half asleep girl on Chase's chest.
You awoke from your nap to Chase still at your side. You smile up at him. "Sorry I fell asleep on you. You didn't have to stay." Chase opened his eyes lazily, drawing shapes on your arm with his finger. "No way am I leaving you baby. But since you're awake now. I really need to pee." Chase chuckled as he slowly scooted off the bed and walked to the bathroom on the other side of the room. You turned on the TV and sat up a little, looking at the screens and wires all around you. Chase came out of the bathroom, tossing a paper towel into the trash bin, before grabbing his bag from next to the bed. He pulled out his charger and plugged your phone in before putting it down on the table next to you.As he placed the bag down and sat next to you on the bed, a nurse knocked and entered the room. "Hey you two! I have extra sheets and blankets for you! This chair fold out into a lounger so you both don't have to smush together all night." The nurse explained as she sat the extra blankets and linen on the chair. "Thank you so much!" Chase beamed as the nurse came over to your bed side to check all your vitals. "Is there anything I should look for overnight?" Chase asked the nurse."Well if she has any convulsions or gets sick, press this call button." The nurse said pointing to the red button on the wall. "Other than that, if anything has you worried press the button and we will come make sure everything is OK." The nurse smiled as she finished getting your blood pressure and typed the vitals into her laptop before leaving the room. Chase got up from his seat on the bed and opened up the lounger chair, putting on the different sheets ad blankets. "You know, you don't have to sleep here just because I was admitted." You smile watching his basically throw blankets round until he was satisfied. He came and laid down next to you again before pecking your lips. "I told you ,baby. I'm here with you for everything. We'll figure this out together." Chase cooed as he pulled you closer and watched SpongeBob with you on his chest, running his ringers through your hair. "I love you, Ace." You said before kissing his hand. "I love you more,Baby girl."
Summary: Sometimes, all you need to throw your life into sharp focus it to stumble over a dying criminal in the street and let it consume your life.
Or: Xiao Xingchen finds Xue Yang injured alongside the road and the rhythm of the carefully constructed life he has with Song Lan no longer seems entirely stable.
It happens when he's walking home from class.
This time, the reason for Xiao Xingchen's loss of vision is not so noble or meaningful. Sometimes things happen for a reason, but sometimes things just happen and it's shit luck and you have to make due with the cards you're dealt. Sometimes you're too young when your vision deteriorates to nothing, but at least that means you don't have to see their pitying looks in the encroaching darkness. But sometimes, there is a good man who is there for you and can help you pick up the pieces when your life changes too quickly for you to deal with. That is a spot of good luck, because this man is someone you love and could picture a life with, even if it's not the life your parents had intended, or the life you set out to start back when the possibilities were endless. This time, Xiao Xingchen learns the lines of Song Lan's face with his fingertips before his sight is completely gone, and lets him reshape their lives to accommodate this unforeseen obstacle to what could have been a story of happily ever after.
With a white cane in hand and a determined set to his face, Xiao Xingchen walks the increasingly familiar path between home, subway, school, subway, home. Never did he plan on learning a new language in his late twenties, but that language is braille, and he refuses to be totally helpless in a world designed against him. Audiobooks help, but he can't listen to them while he walks, has to stay vigilant with his remaining senses or let himself be pummeled by people who won't see him. Shame the onus has to be on him. So it might be dark, but maybe it's not, when he trips over something and sprawls inelegantly, embarrassingly to the ground. His cheeks and ears are burning, he dropped his cane but finds it quickly. Stupid, stupid, he should have felt it.
He reaches back to feel what he tripped over, and feels fabric, flesh. He gropes his way up, increasingly concerned when the person doesn't move or make a sound, and he smells blood. Then finally he feels the blood, sticky and warm but cooling, and is worried he is feeling a corpse until he feels the chest rise and fall and hears the wheeze of breath. He snatches his hands away, worried, and scrambles for the phone in his pocket. It has a voice-to-text option, and that makes up for the lack of buttons. He's never had to dial 9-1-1, and he thinks his voice on the line to the operator is nervous and panicked. He can't even tell her for certain which street he's on, except that it's five blocks from the campus where he had class.
That must be enough. The EMT's arrive and take stock of the situation, and they reassure him, and when he asks them if he can ride in the ambulance, they agree without too much argument. The ride to the hospital is horrible, though, because he has no idea where he's going or how far away and every turn makes him motion sick. He still doesn't consider leaving behind the man he found. The emergency room is chaotic, but one of the EMT's spares the time to lead him out to the waiting room, and someone eventually gets him some water.
“He's in surgery, and then they'll be admitting him for observation,” one of the staff says to him. He's already given his report to the police, explained his innocent side. He's not a suspect for what appears to be a violent crime, but they took his contact information. Otherwise, Xiao Xingchen doesn't know much. “You don't know him, so … you can go home if you want. I'm sure he would appreciate the kindness of a stranger.”
“Were you able to find an emergency contact?” he asks. So far, he has been the only visitor present.
“No,” the staff says. “Don't worry, the police are looking into it.”
“I would prefer to stay with him,” Xiao Xingchen says, because he does always try to be noble, even without a sword in his hands.
The staff member, maybe a nurse or a receptionist but probably not a doctor, reaches out to touch his hands where they're clasped protectively around his cane. He makes a face because he wouldn't have accepted the touch if asked permission, but at least it's kind. “You're a good man,” the staff member says. “We'll help you to the waiting room near where he'll be resting.”
At some point, someone gives him a sandwich wrapped in plastic and a cup of coffee. The sandwich is ham and soggy, but he eats a little of it, and the coffee tastes old and watery. At some point, Xiao Xingchen sleeps in his chair. At some point, someone informs him that the man made it through surgery and is sleeping. At some point, Xiao Xingchen awakens to the feeling of his phone buzzing in his pocket.
“You didn't come home,” Song Lan's voice says, strained. “I was worried.”
“I'll be home soon,” Xiao Xingchen replies. “I have to make sure he made it through. I'm the one who found him, it's my responsibility.” He doesn't like the hospital, which is cold and antiseptic, and his chair isn't comfortable. He's still going to stay. He has to, even if he has to rely on the kindness of strangers to find the bathroom.
Song Lan sighs, too familiar with this side of him. “Call me to come pick you up,” he says quietly. “The hospital isn't far.”
Xiao Xingchen says goodbye and hangs up and only resents a little that the offer makes him feel helpless. He rubs at his eyes, which feel gritty and sore, and locates the remains of his soggy sandwich to at least get something in his stomach. He listens to the sounds of the hospital around him, beeping machines and ringing phones and quiet voices and people rushing by in non-skid shoes. He seems to be politely ignored, or perhaps forgotten, but he doesn't know how long it's supposed to take until he learns what happened.
At some point, another member of staff approaches him and sits beside him, clearing her throat softly. “I have some news, Mr. Xiao,” she says, accented Mandarin. He tries not to be insulted that they think his English isn't good. “The police have found out the identity of the man you found. Apparently … he's wanted for murder, and some other crimes. He works for some very bad men.”
Xiao Xingchen frowns, the information hard to take in. A criminal? He saved a criminal?
“You did a good thing,” she continues. “They'll bring him in to face justice. They wanted me to thank you.”
He manages to nod, trying not to reveal how shaken he is by the news. Why should it bother him so much? He doesn't know this man and has no connection to him other than finding him mostly dead on his walk to the subway. And yet he still feels betrayed. He did something good, he saved a man, and he turns out to be a criminal. It doesn't feel fair, but so little in his life feels fair.
His intentions have been to stay until the man wakes up and introduce himself, get to know him, but he no longer wants that. Instead he digs out his phone as soon as the nurse leaves and dials Song Lan's number to request a ride and pulls himself to his feet, legs feeling stiff from a long night spent in an uncomfortable chair. He still has that feeling that he should at least peek in on the man that he saved, but then, what's the use in that when he hasn't peeked at anything since his vision gave up on him?
It doesn't take very much help from others to make it down to the front of the building and out the doors – the elevator had braille, and the flow of traffic was relatively logical. He takes a breath of fresh air and stands by the curb to wait for Song Lan, his cane clasped in his hands. He hasn't bothered to ask the time, but by the temperature outside and the birds and the angle of the sun he can feel on his skin, he guesses it's midmorning. He's been out all night. No wonder Song Lan was worried.
He hears the car, and the door opens, and there's Song Lan's voice instructing him to get in. He reaches out to feel the edge of the car door and then climbs inside, settling gratefully into the familiar passenger seat to let Song Lan pull away from the hospital.
“Did he wake up?” Song Lan asks after a few moments of silence.
“I don't know,” Xiao Xingchen replies, collapsing his cane back down to make more room in the footwell for his legs. “They told me they found out who he was. A criminal wanted for murder, with mob connections. I didn't want to stay after that. I'm sure they'll arrest him.” He's still not sure how he feels about that. Bad, bad, like there's rocks in his stomach.
Song Lan thinks about that, his driving much smoother than that of the ambulance, mindful of not taking the turns too quickly. “Well, it's a good thing he's off the streets,” he says at last. “And good that you didn't let him die. It's best that he faces the consequences of what he's done.”
Xiao Xingchen nods and chews on his bottom lip, turning towards the window to feel the sun on his face. He's tired, more tired than before, and he thinks he'll sleep all day even if it'll totally throw off his sleep schedule. He feels depressed, for no reason he can put a finger on. How had he been the one to stumble on that man?
He takes Song Lan's help here and there to get inside, finding it reassuring to always reach out and find him there, and then they are safely behind a door and he finds the bed and collapses into it. When he wakes up again, Song Lan is stretched out beside him, breathing deep and even in sleep. Xiao Xingchen sighs, rolls over, and scoots unobtrusively out of bed to find the cigarettes he has hidden in a corner of the closet in case of emergency. He secludes himself on the fire escape to smoke in peace and rub his temple while he attempts to figure out what he's feeling.
He hasn't figured it out by the time he's finished one cigarette, and he has just enough self control to cut himself off after one, then retreats back inside to at least pretend to do some work.
~
The next time Xiao Xingchen hears about Xue Yang (which is the name of the man he saved, that murderer and mobster and … rapist, for all he knew) he is on the news. He emerges from their bedroom one morning in search of the coffee pot and some breakfast, and Song Lan actually has the TV on, a rare occurrence this early in the morning.
“... released from City Hospital this morning, in custody of the police,” the reporter says. “Xue Yang has known connections with alleged crime lord Wen Ruohan, and charges against him include murder, arson, assault, armed robbery, and fraud. Yang will be facing these charges in a court of law, following investigation into the listed charges, and is currently being kept in custody at an undisclosed location. Yang was found two weeks ago by a civilian on the street following a vicious stabbing, supposedly an attempt on his life carried out by a rival gang. The investigation into Yang's attack is still ongoing with no suspects.”
Xiao Xingchen feels his face fold into a frown, and he steps forward until he finds Song Lan, letting him press a bowl into his hands and starting to eat without really tasting.
“I guess he can walk now,” Song Lan comments with a dry voice.
“What does he look like?” It doesn't matter. Xiao Xingchen still wants to know, to satisfy some perverse curiosity about that evil man he happened to save from bleeding out on the street.
“Like a punk,” Song Lan says. “Like a smug little punk. Like he's going to get away with all of it.” He sets his bowl down and leans in to kiss Xingchen's cheek, running his hand over the other as if he can smooth out the frustration there. “Don't listen to too much of this. I'll be back tonight.” And then he leaves, the sound of his footsteps circling the kitchen island, pausing to pick up his coat and bag, pausing to slip on his shoes, and then the sound of the front door.
Xiao Xingchen takes a few more bites of the food – it's oatmeal, and it's alright, but it's not the way he would have prepared it – and the news is still on in the background, now on to some other story that he cares less about. He puts the bowl down and goes for coffee next, still half the pot left and soy creamer set out nearby. Thoughtful. Song Lan takes care of him.
He doesn't follow the direction. He gets his tablet and sets it up to search for this Wen Ruohan guy. He doesn't keep enough track of the news to have any idea about organized crime, but once his tablet understands what he's asking of it, it pulls up some articles. The text reader's voice renders the shocking events dry and bland, but at least it's something. It makes it sound like Wen Ruohan has fingers in pretty much every bit of crime in the city, maybe further out too. Not surprising that a criminal like Xue Yang would take up with him, do some of his dirty work. The top of the pack never lets that kind of thing touch him. That's why they can't make anything stick when it comes to bringing charges against him. The movies get that much right.
His next search is for Xue Yang himself. Most of what pulls up is the recent stuff about him being in the hospital, the stabbing, the murder charge they want him for this time. Few of the articles he finds come with image descriptions, so if there are pictures, he doesn't know what they are. He can access the public parts of Xue Yang's criminal record. People keep getting his name wrong, calling him “Mr. Yang.” He listens to the text reader list the dates and bare-bones facts of the previous charges. Some of them he had been arrested for, served time. Others seemed to disappear too quickly.
When Song Lan comes home, he is still on the couch, bent over his tablet, hair uncombed and falling over his shoulders and still wearing the loungewear he had put on that morning, which doesn't really count as clothes. He startles when he suddenly feels a hand on his shoulder, too wrapped up in what he had been listening to and thinking about to pay attention to the sound of the door opening or Song Lan saying his name.
“What are you … oh,” Song Lan says, and Xiao Xingchen feels the presence of him reading over his shoulder. “I see you didn't follow my advice.”
“I wanted to know more,” Xiao Xingchen says, feeling oddly defensive. He switches the tablet dark so Song Lan can't read over his shoulder. “Maybe he's a smug punk, but I saved him. I want to know what kind of man I saved.” Why he's weirdly obsessive about this, he still doesn't understand. Why he wants to know more of these dark details. It isn't like it gives him a thrill – well, not a good thrill, that would be kind of sick. It isn't like he's ever even interacted with Xue Yang. Except that he spent a good portion of one day covered in his blood and waiting for him to wake up at the hospital, and for some reason that made it feel like Xue Yang owed him something.
Song Lan sighs so it stirs the hairs on the top of his head, then pets them down again. Not the first time Xiao Xingchen has forgotten to comb his hair, especially on days he stays in. It's a worried kind of touch. “Will you please turn it off for a little while for dinner?”
Xiao Xingchen considers being contrary and refusing, but his stomach rumbles as a reminder that he only broke away long enough to eat some pickles and crackers in a lunch that required minimal effort but could hardly be counted as real food. He submits, then, pulling Song Lan's hand down from his head to kiss his inner wrist. He rises to his feet to follow Song Lan to the table, sits beside him and takes the prepared plate. Song Lan must have guessed some of his mood that morning, because a couple of the dishes are among his favorites from this particular restaurant.
That softens him, and he feels a little bad for considering being contrary or brushing off Song Lan's worry as being patronizing. Guilty, even. Doesn't Song Lan have enough to deal with without his boyfriend being bratty? It's the unfortunate truth of their circumstances that Song Lan shoulders more of the financial responsibilities, more of the housekeeping, more of the cooking. Xiao Xingchen does what he can, and he's gotten to be a pretty fair hand at cooking even without being able to read labels. It's still more for Song Lan.
Xiao Xingchen finishes up his pad see ew, wipes his mouth clean, and gets up to drape himself over Song Lan's lap. His chopsticks clatter lightly on the edge of the plate, and then his hands settle on Xiao Xingchen's waist. Xingchen feels a smile spread over his face, and his hands slide into Song Lan's hair, and he leans in for a kiss.
Being intimate like this has changed. As his sight faded, his other senses sharpened. In some ways it's useful, like being able to so distinctly smell the differences between spices, but his skin is now also more sensitive. Every touch, every brush of lips or teeth, has the potential to be overwhelming. It had caught him off-guard at first, the sheer electricity of it lighting him up more vividly than any lit room. It had been intense enough to scare him, and hence to scare Song Lan, and since then his touches had grown increasingly light and gentle, wary of startling him again. Or perhaps it is that Song Lan is no longer so certain of sharing himself with someone who can no longer see him. He has never been the most touchy-feely person, and Xiao Xingchen wouldn't blame him if the shine of their relationship had faded by now. Occupying that strange liminal space where he was part caretaker, part boyfriend – that can't be easy.
So how can Xiao Xingchen ask for that firmer touch, the way they could get so carried away with each other the way they used to when they were younger and more carefree? What right does he have to demand even more?
He still kisses Song Lan wild and reckless, soft lips and sharp teeth catching at Song Lan's mouth, kissing the flavor of Thai food off his lips. Song Lan sighs against him, hands slipping up under Xiao Xingchen's oversized cardigan and the t-shirt underneath, circling against his waist. There are calluses on his fingers, just rough enough to feel, and at least while they're kissing Song Lan isn't protesting. Xingchen squirms slightly, trying to get his hands to slide down, as if he could wiggle them down. They stay where they are, though Song Lan's grip tightens, starting to dig into his skin.
Xiao Xingchen breaks the kiss to pant softly against Song Lan's lips, only now realizing that he has one hand tangled up in his hair, the other pressed flat against his chest, feeling the steady thud of Song Lan's heart beneath his skin. His own heartbeat feels like it's echoing that beat, knocking up hopefully against his ribs. Maybe this time … maybe this time it would work out. Maybe this time he could somehow convey the kind of attention he was craving, and maybe Song Lan would be amenable to fucking his brains out.
Sure enough, Song Lan shifts his grip, finally down even if it is over his yoga pants, cups his ass and stands up with him clinging koala-style. Xiao Xingchen has no intention of letting go, pressing kisses into Song Lan's jaw, his throat, over his lips, wherever he can reach, his arms settling around Song Lan's strong shoulders and his back arching to press closer against him. This is better, this is closer to what he wants.
Song Lan deposits him on the bed, doesn't drop him, just setting him carefully on the mattress like fine china. But still he crawls over him, whispers kisses into his skin, teeth scraping lightly down his throat. The light touches make Xiao Xingchen gasp and writhe, his skin feeling so oversensitive that he can't even stand still wearing his clothes. Song Lan hovers over him, on his hands and knees, still barely touching him except for the brush of his lips.
“Zichen,” he breathes, needy, eager.
Song Lan pulls back, and Xingchen can just weather the feeling of being watched, breathing and trying not to feel self-conscious beneath the weight of Song Lan's gaze. His fingers are still in Song Lan's hair, twisting and trying to pull him back down. He bears it for a few moments, then stretches up to try and find his lips.
But before he can make it, Song Lan's hand takes his own, unpeeling his fingers from his hair and kissing his palm before pressing his hand to Xingchen's chest and sitting up. The gesture has an air of finality to it, and Xiao Xingchen can't help it, he covers his face with his hands. It's like being blind has erased any ability he had to control his expression, and he can only imagine what his face is doing right now, because it certainly feels all twisted up and hurt and mad and frustrated.
“I'm sorry,” Song Lan says, because he isn't good at reading people but he isn't blind, and he sounds regretful. “I'm sorry, it just wasn't...”
Xiao Xingchen rolls away, taking a moment, then sits up, his back facing Song Lan. “It's fine,” he says, as though merely saying the words will make it so, and he knows his voice sounds too tight. “It's fine,” he repeats. He wishes there was a switch in his body that he could just turn off, rather than having to sit with the coiling warmth still lingering in his stomach, refusing to dissipate just because Song Lan is no longer touching him.
He feels Song Lan touch his hair lightly, then the shift of the mattress as he stands up. The ensuite shower turns on shortly after, and entertains the vindictive thought of forcing his way in and pushing Song Lan up on the shower wall and just...
He doesn't know what. Song Lan had already made his “no” very clear, and Xiao Xingchen has no intention of crossing that particular boundary. He knows there wouldn't be any coming back from that. Taking care of himself feels equally out of the question. It's not what he craves, and doing it alone feels empty.
He goes to clean up after their dinner, finding some comfort in scrubbing off the plates and plunging his hands in the soapy water. It doesn't perfectly redirect his energy, but it takes the edge off. Then he steps out to the fire escape again, retreats, cowardice. The cold, damp wind slaps him in the face, and he takes a lungful of the foggy air, pressing his back into the wrought iron to feel it dig in.
He should tell Song Lan. There are things he should say, explanations, verbalizing his desire and upset and love and frustration. How it feels to be treated as an invalid, even when Song Lan does it so soft and gentle. Song Lan will tell his part too, the part where his desire can't always keep up with Xingchen's and that particular quirk where touching makes his skin crawl, where he treasures Xingchen and wants to protect him by wrapping him up tight in bubble wrap, kept and sweet and placed high on a shelf never to be touched.
He kicks the fire escape, just to make himself feel a little better, and wedges himself in. He should have brought his tablet. He could have done more research. Without it, he just listens to the sounds of the city at night, traffic and ambulances, someone singing, a baby crying in the distance. He lets it all flow and melt around him, lets his body relax into becoming the ambient temperature of the fog, cold and misty and amorphous.
By the time Xiao Xingchen retreats back inside, his thoughts are as cool and calm as the air outside. He slips into bed, fitting into the space behind Song Lan, slotting in, his knees in the crook behind Song Lan's knees, his cold nose tucked against the back of his neck. Song Lan smells clean, and Xingchen feels sorry for earlier, silly for letting himself get carried away. He's happy here. He is happy.
That thought circles his brain as he drifts off to sleep.
~
Time passes. Xiao Xingchen dials back his research to what he thinks is a normal amount of interest. There is always news to follow – Xue Yang seems to be at the same time the media's darling and their favorite villain. The tabloids keep commenting on how he looks, calling him angelic and sweet-faced while at the same time condemning him for what seemed like an ever-increasing number of crimes. Song Lan quickly learns to simply leave him to it, and in return Xingchen can moderate himself so he doesn't lose entire days to sitting on the couch and burying himself in news and police reports.
Life is pretty much normal. There's a routine, a rhythm, comfortable and familiar. Xiao Xingchen further adjusts to life in a world that isn't built to accommodate him, his steps ever more certain on his path. He can visualize his future stretching before him, and none of it looks bad. No surprises, no tragedy. He figures losing his sight is bad enough to fulfill the quota for drama for this lifetime.
Xiao Xingchen listens to the trial when it starts. From what he can tell, this is apparently very fast, but he doesn't know enough about the American justice system to confirm that. There's plenty of media coverage on it, but despite their efforts to highlight the most exciting parts, the trial itself seems to be fairly dull, nothing like the TV shows. That doesn't decrease Xiao Xingchen's interest, but it does help to prevent him from focusing too much on it.
Song Lan has a launch party for work. Xiao Xingchen doesn't know enough about computers to know what it's really for, some piece of software or another, something Song Lan has been working on for months. It's a cause for celebration, and while Xingchen doesn't relish the need to dress up, he lets Song Lan help him with it. Most of his wardrobe is in interchangeable shades of neutral, white and black and gray – he made sure of that before his sight was gone. But it's better to be safe than sorry and accidentally choose something inappropriate or clashing. Anyway, he knows Song Lan quietly enjoys dressing him, making sure he looks nice. It suits the same part of his personality that's so good at the nitty-gritty details of code, a fierce, strict streak of perfectionism.
Xiao Xingchen has no doubt that they make a sharp picture when they arrive. He left his cane at home, since it would be too cumbersome in a party setting, and thus holds Song Lan's arm to navigate their way inside. It's a club, it smells like a club, alcohol and bodies and several layers of perfume and cologne, and there's music playing with a low bassline that reverberates in his ribcage. It's probably dark, which means that people will be asking all night long why he's wearing his dark tinted glasses. Hopefully sticking close against Song Lan's side will decrease the need to explain.
Parties like this are always a little awkward. Xingchen is friendly and willing, but he doesn't speak the same language as these technology prodigies. Maybe he could have wandered and found other partners of Song Lan's coworkers, but he was always wary of losing track of Song Lan in an unfamiliar place. And Song Lan is good, he's considerate, but sometimes he gets so wrapped up in whatever conversation he gets involved in that Xingchen falls by the wayside despite being attached to his arm.
It's still fun and interesting to be out of the apartment, chatting with people, picking canapes off the trays, accepting the drink that Song Lan passes to him. It's one of the fruity ones that he likes, but strong enough that he can taste the alcohol under the juice. He's playing the role of arm candy tonight, but he lets it be fun, lets himself be the sweet and sparkly juxtaposition to Song Lan's dry, serious demeanor. Song Lan's coworkers forgive him easily when he doesn't know the more technical details and humor him by talking about other, more accessible topics.
Inevitably, though, they turn back to talking shop, and Xingchen tries to follow but it all starts to sound like gibberish. He sighs and ceases to pay much attention to the conversation since they're not really paying attention to him, and he sips his drink, wishing the music were better. Though, of course, the inevitable result of sipping a drink all evening is that he has to use the bathroom. Xingchen realizes it with some dismay. There's no good way to bring it up without sounding like a complaining toddler, but he doesn't even know which way to point himself to find it if he were to just wander off. So he just … waits. Song Lan will have to go eventually as well.
Except the situation is steadily growing towards urgent, and Song Lan shows no indication of breaking away from his conversation, focused the way he can get sometime. Xiao Xingchen starts to fidget anxiously, hoping to somehow telepathically convey what he needs. Unfortunately, he doesn't magically develop psychic powers. He's inches from giving in to the embarrassment of asking to be escorted to the bathroom when he feels another hand on his free arm.
“Hi,” a female voice says, one that he doesn't recognize. “Song Lan, do you mind if I borrow him for a minute?”
Xiao Xingchen could curse, and desperately hopes that Song Lan makes up an excuse to keep him from being pulled to another conversation with strangers. He can't focus on being friendly when his body is screaming at him. He feels Song Lan look up in surprise, finally breaking from his own conversation.
“Oh, right, of course,” he says, gently taking Xingchen's hand from his arm to pass him over to the woman. “Xingchen, this is Wen Qing. She's a doctor and a friend.”
“Alright,” Xingchen says, voice cracking, shooting Song Lan what he hopes is a desperate look before Wen Qing tugs him away. He's panicking, he thinks he might die, he wants the earth to swallow him up. He clears his throat and touches Wen Qing's hand, her pace never slowing. “I'm sorry, I'm terribly sorry, but...”
Before he can finish, she pulls him through a doorway. Their footsteps turn echo-y, and he feels a glimmer of hope. She continues pulling, then places his hand on what feels like the handle of a urinal. He makes a sound, desperate still, and feels for the edges of the porcelain before letting go of her entirely so he can relieve himself.
“You looked like you were suffering over there,” she says, only far enough away to give him the space he needs to get the job done. “I know how Song Lan can get too intense in his conversations and forget the world around him.”
“Thank you,” he breathes, shooting a small smile in the direction of her voice. “Unfamiliar places are always a little difficult, especially without my cane. I hope it wasn't too obvious.”
“Not to the tech nerds,” she says, putting her hand on his shoulder to help lead him over to the sinks after he gets his slacks fastened up. “They might be geniuses, but they're oblivious to any kind of subtlety. Feeling better?”
“Yes, thank you,” Xiao Xingchen says again, washing his hands and then relaxing a hip against the sink. He isn't in a rush to go back out to the music he doesn't like. “So you're a doctor?”
“Cardiac surgeon,” Wen Qing clarifies. “I normally don't get to see below the belt. But don't worry, I'll remain professional.” It sounds like she's smiling too. Xingchen isn't surprised to find that she's friends with Song Lan, with that dry kind of humor.
“I wasn't too worried about it,” Xingchen says. “Do you come to a lot of these things?”
“A few. I was dating one of them for a while, made some friends. They keep inviting me, and the appetizers are good, and every once in a while I get to help somebody's poor boyfriend find the bathroom.” He feels her pull his jacket straight, adjusting his collar slightly. “So. Been together long?”
“Since college,” Xingchen tells her. Maybe she isn't very close with Song Lan, to have not heard the story before. “Actually, we met in the airport when I arrived in America. I was so lost and overwhelmed, and he stepped in to help me find my way in a new country and a big city. It was just a happy coincidence that we ended up going to the same school while he was getting his graduate degree. And then from there, it's basically just history.”
Wen Qing laughs and touches his shoulder again. “Somehow, I doubt it's 'just history,' but we can leave it at that, if you want,” she says. “That's very sweet. I'm just glad you look as lost by all their talk as I am. Do you smoke?”
“Ah...” He doesn't want to lie, but also isn't sure about how likely it is his answer would get back around to Song Lan.
“Doesn't matter,” she says quickly, taking his arm again to lead him out. “Come hang out with the wives. We're all the wives, regardless of gender.”
Together, they wind through the party, past snippets of conversation and a speaker rolling out bassline in waves. Wen Qing pulls him out of a door, and the sound of music is dampened. A comforting cloud of cigarette smoke wafts around them, and there's a soft hum of conversation.
“Hey, wives,” Wen Qing crows. “I bring fresh blood.”
“One of us,” someone chants, and Xiao Xingchen grins and gives an irreverent salute.
The wives are apparently the company he was craving. He no longer has to pretend to understand or be interested in the technobabble, and instead he can pluck crackers smothered in cream cheese and prosciutto off of the platter that they stole from the catering staff and sip from the bottle of wine that they had also stolen. He can listen to one of them chatter about a thesis project on Emily Dickinson and steal drags from cigarettes and blunts passed to him. It's closer to the way he and Song Lan operated in college, parting for their own friend groups before drifting back together, and the wives are closer to the kind of people he would choose for friends, free to be bohemian while their significant others take advantage of the tech boom and bring home the bacon.
Xiao Xingchen hasn't bothered to check the time on his phone, but it feels late by the quality of the air and the conversation. They've stopped talking about anything of substance, and he's leaning on Wen Qing's shoulder. He's a little drunk and a little high and feeling soft and easy. Song Lan's touch doesn't even startle him when it comes to rest on his shoulder.
“Let's go home,” he suggests in a low murmur, and Xingchen peels himself up. The wives moan and complain, and someone reaches for him, fingers catching on the edge of his jacket with a soft cry of, “Chen-chen, don't leave us!”
Xiao Xingchen gives his goodbyes and makes his promises to stay in touch – his phone is full of their phone numbers. He leans on Song Lan to make their way out and down to meet their car. They slide into the back seat, and their hands find each other on the seat, fingers folding together in the most intimate touch Song Lan would allow in public.
“Time's it?” Xiao Xingchen asks, sleepy and smiley and soft.
“Close to one,” Song Lan replies. He sounds a little drunk too, and his thumb runs over the space between Xingchen's thumb and index finger, fitting into the hollow. “Did you have fun?”
“Mmm,” he hums and smiles more. “They were nice. Wen Qing was helpful, and you know how useless I am when you talk shop.”
“I should have known you'd get along with them. I should have introduced you earlier. I'm sorry you were bored with me.” He snorts softly. “Chen-chen.”
Xiao Xingchen's giggle is significantly less dignified, but at least it's not too loud out of consideration for their poor driver. “You know I can't help if they think I'm cute!”
Song Lan doesn't protest, but he doesn't have to. They're back home, and he thanks the driver, and comes around to help Xingchen out of the car and back into their building. They're quiet due to the late hour, so the sound of the keys feels like it echoes in the still night air. Xiao Xingchen lets himself inside with a sigh of relief and kicks his shoes off, and opens his mouth to suggest they go to bed only to have Song Lan's lips and teeth and tongue providing an effective gag.
Song Lan backs him against the wall in the entryway, and his hands span Xingchen's waist, broad and solid. Xingchen can taste the alcohol in his breath, but he probably tastes the same. His head spins, his stomach flips, feeling simultaneously over- and under-fed on those canapes, but thrilled with possibility. The kiss is rough, with teeth, not like delicate good morning kisses or gentle good night ones that he's gotten used to. This kiss demands, and expects him to answer – and so he does.
Xiao Xingchen moans into it and grips back at Song Lan's shirt, returning the kiss with equal fervor. Sleep is no longer on his mind. Instead, he has to get his hands on Song Lan's skin or he might just evaporate. He tugs until he can get Song Lan's shirt out of his slacks and he can slide his hands underneath, flat against the skin of his stomach. His skin is warm, solid, and he can feel the frantic rate of his breathing beneath his touch. It feels like a dream, like it's so much that it can't be real, and at the same time it's so real, so perfect, everything he wants.
It feels like Song Lan needs this as badly as he does. With hands tight around Xingchen's arms he pulls him away from the wall, further into the apartment. Xiao Xingchen assumes they'll go to the bedroom, to the bed as usual, but he finds himself bent forward over the couch instead, the familiar fabric under his fingers and the back digging into his stomach. Song Lan presses against him, rubs against his ass, pushes his shirt up and runs his hands over his back. Xiao Xingchen lets out a shaky breath and pushes back against him, just as demanding and desperate.
Finally, finally Song Lan reaches around to get his slacks unfastened, pushes at them impatiently, and locates the zipper to shove it down. Xiao Xingchen squirms to help get them down his legs and winds up with them stuck around his knees, but at least it's some relief. Song Lan seems to think that's enough; his fingers grip into the flesh of Xingchen's ass, squeezing and massaging and spreading. He pants into the couch cushions, his breath coming back hot and wet against his cheeks and the sensitive tip of his cock bumping up against the back of the couch in a way that isn't altogether pleasant but at least it is some sensation. He's hard, he needs it, his skin feels like it's sparking with heat at every brush of Song Lan's fingers.
He remembers with some despair that they don't have any lube in the living room and is just about ready to straighten up, drag Song Lan back to the bedroom so they can do it properly. Then he hears something tear and feels slick fingers slide against his ass. Song Lan came prepared. Such a good, thoughtful boyfriend, even if it is frankly out of character for him to anticipate sex like this. When it happens, if it happens, there's so much delicate kissing and foreplay and it's consistently in the bed or the shower where they're prepared. But he can't even speculate on it, Song Lan's fingers feel too good, pushing the lube inside him fast, impatient. He wants to spread his legs but he's trapped by his slacks and can only pant helplessly against the couch cushions.
Thoughtfully, Song Lan's clean hand reaches down to brush his hair out of his face, tracing the line of his jaw. The fingers inside him spread once more, then slide out, and that's all the warning he really gets before he feels Song Lan's cock press steady and inexorable inside him.
The sound he lets out would be embarrassing under any other circumstance, low and broken and wet. It's been long enough that he almost can't handle the stretch. It's almost too much and makes him choke. His knees feel weak. His spit is making a wet spot on the couch cushions. Song Lan still doesn't stop, not until his hips are pressed flush against Xingchen's ass. His breath is coming heavy now, ragged. He's thoughtful again when he pauses to let then both get used to it, his hands resting on Xingchen's hips, one of them tacky with drying lube, and he pets soothingly at one hipbone like Xingchen is a skittish horse.
Like that, Xiao Xingchen remembers that he's supposed to breathe, and he takes a deep, shaking breath before letting it out loudly, and he can feel it relax down his spine. Song Lan pets him again, approvingly, then eases out of him only to slam back inside. Xiao Xingchen chokes on another cry, and that seems to encourage him, the pace rough and quick.
Time ceases to exist. Xingchen can't see, obviously, but the pleasure feels like starbursts of color in his mind. The apartment is very quiet, except for the wet slap of skin and too much lube (Song Lan was always careful like that) and their labored breathing, punctuated with moans and whimpers punched out of Xingchen's throat. It is so rough, he knows he is going to be sore, aching and remembering this for days. But it's so good too, Song Lan's cock stretching him and hollowing him out, making a space inside him. He's so hard it hurts, and his own cock is leaking. Song Lan's hand reaches down to cup it protectively, preventing it from smearing over the back of the couch. The pressure is maddening without friction to go with it, and Xingchen sobs out his pleasure, trembling and pushing back on him.
When he cums it's a punch to the gut, fingers white-knuckled against the couch cushions and a cry ripping out of his throat. His heart feels like it's hammering so hard that all he can hear for a few moments is the whoosh-whoosh of his heartbeat. But he realizes quickly that Song Lan has felt it. He drapes himself over Xingchen's back, fucking him hard and fast, racing towards the end. It must crash into him too, because he grunts and transforms into a heavy, shuddering weight, pressing him into the couch, his cock twitching inside.
Time still doesn't really exist. They might stay draped over that couch for hours, for all Xingchen can tell. His ass is sore, he can barely breathe, he's going to have bruises where the couch is digging into his midsection, and he feels like he hasn't been this happy in months. It's not just the sex – though, to be fair, the sex is amazing and a big part of it. It's what comes with the sex. He feels connected to Song Lan like this, special, needed. And then, taken care of, because eventually Song Lan straightens up and helps him up, drops down to help him work off his shoes and slacks so they can walk back to the bedroom. His arm supports Xingchen around the waist because he's for surewalking with a limp right now. He helps him get his shirt off and brushes his hair back over his shoulder and kisses his cheek, so sweet.
Xiao Xingchen makes to go to the bathroom. He still smells like smoke and wine and sex, and Song Lan won't want that in their bed. But before he can pull away, Song Lan pulls him back in close, nuzzles his hair and kisses him again in a way that makes his heart feel soft and warm, honey in his chest. He lets Song Lan lead him to bed, even though he has the distinct sensation of cum slowly starting to leak out of his body.
“Here, keep it in,” Song Lan rumbles low, curling up behind him and pressing his fingers into Xingchen, pressing it back inside. Xingchen sucks in a breath, his body feeling oversensitive and raw but good. It's not too much. Then there are some sounds behind him, and then he feels Song Lan's cock press into him again. That is almost too much, and he makes a small sound, not sure if he could handle a second round.
But it's not to fuck him. Song Lan settles, their bodies pressed close, fitting perfectly. Song Lan's nose presses into his shoulder, and he kisses there a few times. Without too much preamble, they fall asleep.
The next morning, of course, they are stuck together. It's a little disgusting, but there isn't a thing that Xiao Xingchen would have changed about the night before. He stirs a little, then makes a sound of complaint, his body protesting the movement from the waist down. Song Lan wakes up next, and Xingchen can practically hear his grimace when he remembers the position they were stuck in.
He's as careful as he can manage when he pulls away from Xingchen's body, pressing a gentle hand to his arm to indicate he should stay still. There are some bathroom sounds, water running, and then Song Lan returns with a warm, wet washcloth to gently wipe him clean. Xingchen has to bite his knuckle; his ass feels raw, sore and swollen. He can feel precisely how hard they went. He still doesn't regret a moment.
Song Lan treats him soft and sweet that morning, brings him breakfast in bed and combs his hair. They're both quiet, Xingchen because he's hesitant to say anything that will break the spell, and Song Lan because he seems exhausted from socializing so much the day before. Sometimes it's harder than others. Then to recuperate, he's quieter than usual, minimizing his interactions, sometimes even with Xingchen himself. Xingchen doesn't take it personally, and usually uses the time to indulge his own inner introvert and work on his own projects.
Nothing wrong with that, except that they continue to not talk about it. Xingchen can't make the shape of his desire into words, the way Song Lan's touch lights him up, the way he craves the desperate way they came together after the launch party. Song Lan's touches feel apologetic, half guilty, wary of pushing too far, like he's afraid of his own attraction. They haven't had to navigate anything like this before, where before they were coasting on instinct and now the waters feel choppy.
Xiao Xingchen finds it a welcome distraction to turn to the trial. There's no shortage of material – Xue Yang continues to be the media's darling or scapegoat by turns, sometimes both in the same article. He figures out how to find the best news channel to listen to what he can, certain amounts of testimony from witnesses and arguments from lawyers. He thinks its a small blessing that he himself was such a useless witness when it came to the stabbing incident, so he hasn't been called to court. In any case, that's how he first hears Xue Yang's voice, surprisingly young, always irreverent and teasing, even when he's supposed to be taking the court show seriously.
And it really does seem like a show. The prosecution is fighting as best they can, but the defense is barely working at all, their questions lazy and confident at the same time. The judge doesn't seem in any kind of hurry to help the prosecution when the defense steps out of line. Everything is played to the media like a huge circus, and everyone is marching towards a foregone conclusion.
Then, as quickly as it started, it's over. The media coverage disappears overnight. It's not old enough to be old news, but that's how it's treated. Xiao Xingchen has to search and search to find anything about the conclusion, and all he can find is basically a footnote stating that a settlement was reached, which sounds frankly preposterous. The charges against Xue Yang included murder! He hadn't thought it was possible that a settlement could be found against a potential murderer, especially when the prosecution had brought witnesses and evidence galore. It feels profoundly unfair, a sincere lack of justice, and he wonders how natural-born Americans feel about their supposed “justice system.”
His dissatisfaction with the finale of the trial makes it hard to put it all behind him. He struggles with sleeping and focusing on his projects and his studies, he's snappish and short-tempered and withdrawn from Song Lan. Even if Song Lan asked what is troubling him, he has no confidence that he could articulate it to any understandable degree. So Song Lan can't help, and Xiao Xingchen doesn't know how to help himself.
It's on a random day when Xingchen hears a knock on the door. That's unusual – Song Lan left for work, but he would have texted if he forgot his keys, and Xingchen doesn't think they're expecting any deliveries. He debates just leaving it, pretending he's not home, but the knock comes again, more insistent.
Heaving a big sigh, he picks himself up from where he had been lounging, attempting to read and feel somewhat productive but mostly just feeling listless. It crosses his mind that Song Lan might have gotten it in his head to do some kind of gesture, getting him flowers or something – not that flowers aren't thoughtful, but he thinks the gesture is now lost on him since he can't see them. He doesn't think he brushed his hair this morning, but this delivery man will just have to tolerate him looking a little messy. He finds the door and opens it, trying to put a pleasant expression on his face.
“Hello, can I help you?” he asks, and waits for a response.
None comes. He waits a few moments, then frowns. Was something dropped off? He considers bending to check for a box, but there's a feeling rising, a prickling feeling on the back of his neck that tells him he's being watched. But if there's someone there, why aren't they speaking? Why aren't they telling him why they're there? Belatedly, he realizes this might be some kind of burglar who could take advantage of him. He doesn't have a weapon, but there's an umbrella in the stand next to the door and knives in the kitchen, and though it's been years he still has his martial arts training. How much that will help, he doesn't know, he hasn't even attempted to fight anyone even to spar since he lost his sight, and he doesn't think running through the exercises and stretches in the morning will really help if someone actually attacks him.
Whoever is at the door still hasn't spoken, and it's making his nerves go haywire, his heart pounding even though he hasn't even moved. Maybe he's being stupid and getting freaked out over nothing. Maybe there's no one even there, and there's no reason for his skin to feel nervous cold/hot. “Hello?” he says again, this time significantly less confident, his voice giving out halfway through.
There's another few moments of silence, then a wild cackle, not an attractive laugh at all. It feels familiar, somehow, though it's not until Xue Yang speaks that Xiao Xingchen recognizes him.
“Wow. I guess you're real, huh?”
