the fic is about how modern wei wuxian is a researcher/scientist and he got his hands on a shady book written by baoshan sanren, accidentally triggers a talisman/array and somehow being transported into the wuxia version and it involves the people who died coming back to life and they all watch/read the past and it just sort of becomes one big therapy session.

I was tagged by @troubled-mind and @lurkingshan. I suppose it's time to see how much synthwave has taken over my listening. I use Spotify, but I'll leave links to YouTube for easier access.

Can't Stop Falling in Love - W O L F C L U B - This is definitely a byproduct of basically doing mixes of The Midnight, who are probably my favorite current band. I love the simplicity of this song's lyrics and the strength of the drums underpinning the emotions.

Into the Light - J.Views (feat. Wildclub) - I just really love the vocals of this so much. It's a song about being a bit lost in yourself and finding your way out through another person, and then going forward together. I don't think this song has left my On Repeat in over three years.

Los Angeles - The Midnight - I really love when songs about cities feel really specific to them. This feels like an homage to nights in LA in a way that I find makes me yearn for a place I've never been outside of movies. The Midnight have been the first band to really shake up my listening habits in a long time.

Summer Love - Trevor Something - This is another byproduct of The Midnight listening. I like this song because a lot of songs about summer love sound like they're for teenagers, but this feels adult in a nostalgic way. Do the 20 somethings even drop acid anymore?

Dawn / Sea - Dem Yuut - I don't think this song will ever leave this playlist. There's something so honest about admitting you wanna know "what it feels like when you can't quit it."

1984 (Reprise) - Siamese Youth - The primary appeal of synthwave and outrun is 80s nostalgia. I was born in the 90s, but many of my favorite movies were made in the 80s and there's a sense constantly that things took a turn after that.

Seasons (Waiting on You) - Future Islands - If I don't see them live in the next few years I will lose my cool. Prior to COVID, Future Islands spent most of their time on the road, and many of their songs are about how they feel distant from all of the people they love. Sam Herring has a knack for poetry in his lyrics, and I often think about the line "People change, but you know some people never do. You know when people change, they gain a peace but they lose one too."

Gloria - The Midnight - They were bound to show up multiple times on this list. This song kind of feels like a high in the midst of a manic episode.

Sleepwalker - The Wallflowers - This one is kind of surprise. I don't remember listening to The Wallflowers that much recently. I love Jakob's voice, and I think I was amused by his reference to Sam Cooke's song Cupid in this track.

Ran - Future Islands - My biases remain so consistent. Most of the time this is my favorite Future Islands song. It's hard to love people when you're far away from them, and I like the way this song captures that from the perspective of a band always on the road.

That was a lot of fun! I am kinda glad that some of my classic obsessions haven't been completely shoved out by The Midnight, and also surprised by the Wallflowers making an appearance on this playlist. Spotify is so weird sometimes.

As for terms (under the cut);

Misceanimalis/Misce is the general term (Miscecanis is also sometimes used generally, and Misceblr is misce on Tumblr specifically) but any other misce-___ term you see is basically a subset of misce dedicated to a specific creature. So for example miscefelis is for misce who view their misce identity through a cat lens, have traits they feel are specific to cats, or are just misce and also a cat.

An example of the trait-specific thing is if you feel like your nesting, scent, pack dynamics (or lack of) or other behaviors are influenced by that creature.

For example, in cats, only female cats tend to be in groups. Male cats are kicked out once they're old enough to fend for themselves, and while they might find a mate who they try to hang around by or even make friends they see occasionally , they don't really have a "pack" they live with and travel with- that's reserved for female cats.

I don't really see my lack of desire for a communal living situation as dictated by my catboy-ness (could still be connected? I'm unsure), but it is sort of fitting, and could definitely be considered a miscefelis thing.

You don't have to use these more specific tags if you don't want to, and you also don't have to fall under them to tag posts with them- sometimes people will tag as many variations as they can think of for post reach, or tag variations they think might have a similar experience. I feel like the variations and the interaction between them is where therian, kin, and alterhuman stuff comes more into play, because if you're just here for the a/b/o gender and nesting and not much else then you have no real need to look for animal specific variations, because it's not an animal thing for you.

You also have the classic alpha, beta, and omega genders, of course, and things like "mate" (partner), "packmate" (this could be a friend, family, roommate, or qpr depending on the person- but it's just generally someone who's part of your social group and who you consider pack. Most packs live together though, so usually it's safe to assume they live with or near other pack members), and "nest" (used as a word to describe a cozy space with blankets, pillows, possibly stuffed animals or other decorations- can be a blanket fort or reading nook but people usually build these sorts of spaces in or out of their beds).

Then there's coining. Misce has a lot of flag makers and term coiners, and a lot of mogai blogs. I could never go over all of these with you because the whole point is that it's basically endless, but if you're curious you can find coining blogs in the community and look through their posts. People make terms fand flags or sexuality in relation to misce, new suffixes, nontrinary (the misce version of nonbinary, so not alpha beta or omega) gender identities, and even for specific scent types!! If you like hoarding identity words and flags then you can totally do that here, you have a lot to choose from and some people even take requests. I personally don't feel the need to get into all of that though, so while I sometimes reblog cool flags or terms I don't really pay attention to them or claim any for myself. I just use miscefelis and omega, and maybe omega 4 beta if I'm talking about mate preferences (not that it matters since I'm already taken lol).

I'm sure there are more lifestyle elements you could incorporate (some people make diy scent holder jewelry or similar, for example- I just use perfume lol), but my personal experience is mainly nesting, purring and being catboy, and just having an omega gender identity, so there are probably blogs that could tell you way more ideas on how to do more action/behavior oriented things. I just vibe.

Currently Reading - Burning Chrome- William Gibson

Reading is SUUUUPER hard for me for some reason, so I find myself picking up and putting books down often. I rarely get so engrossed in a book that I finish it, but that's why Burning Chrome works for me. it's a scify anthology/short story comp that I can pick up and put away whenever I want. the few books I strongly recommend are Piranesi and the Winternight Trilogy!

My boy tadashi was a shelter cat who probably would have died if I hadn't gotten him when I did. He came to me with a life threatening respiratory infection and ringworm, fleas, kennel rashes, etc. He's all fixed up now and living his best life as a spoiled, fat housecat. he's a bit standoffish to people, but really loves being with people. I also live with my sister's two cats, madeline and Olive.

a/n: yall i get. we're sensing a theme here. but i started reading the manga after the latest episode n i swear i just wanna hug this poor boy.

walking up the stairs, i gripped the handle and pushed open the door to the second floor dorms. as i continued down the hall, i scanned the name tags lining the walls, looking for midoriya's.

i hope he's okay.

saying today was shit would be the understatement of a lifetime.

training was tougher than usual today, because aizawa-sensei had decided to surprise us with realistic hero training- except the villains were teachers. it was nothing like what we had done before, which was usually fine for our class.

but midoriya wasn't having it today.

to start, blackwhip had been a complete bitch. first the stupid thing made it hard for midoriya to summon it. and when he did, the god-damned quirk made sure he couldn't get it under control or use it at all.

this caused him to get flung around the room, crashing into walls and in turn causing debris to fall everywhere. students were rushing to get out of the way, and if aizawa-sensei hadn't used his quirk on midoriya, midoriya would have probably ended up destroying not only the training ground but also himself.

though technically it would have been blackwhip's fault.

afterwards, we had lessons with class b and vlad-sensei. and monoma made it his life's mission to taunt midoriya for being "useless" and "a burden" on everyone around him. kirishima and i shut him up real fast, but that didn't lighten the blow those words had on midoriya himself.

and as soon as the day ended, he rushed off to the dorms, saying he had homework to do and that he'd see me in class the next day. he hadn't met my eyes, and before i could even get a word out he had sped away.

i swear to god i'm going to kill monoma tomorrow.

finding midoriya's door, i raised my fist and knocked twice.

"midoriya?"

silence.

i knocked again, "midoriya? it's me."

still silence.

trying my hand at the doorknob, i'm surprised when i find it open. brows furrowed, i pushed open the door, and take a step into his dorm room. closing the door behind me, i walk further, and am greeted with a seemingly empty room.

my heart dropped, and i could feel myself starting to panic.

where the fuck is he?

"midoriya...?"

looking around, i spot a figure huddled under the covers on the bed.

oh no.

making my way around the pile of training clothes and sheets of paper dumped unceremoniously around the floor, i take a seat on the bed next to him.

"hey, sweetheart. it's me."

there's silence, and after a few moments midoriya shifts, peeking out from under the blankets.

his eyes are red, and there are tear tracks covering his face. his cheeks are flushed, and he stares at me for a quick second before it seems to click. it's me.

and suddenly he's pushing himself up.

"o-oh! y/n-chan! oh my god, i-"

rubbing his hands over his face, midoriya practically throws himself off the bed, stumbling over himself in an attempt to get away.

"i'm so sorry, i'm just- i just have to go to the washroom-"

seeing him rushing away again, i stand up.

"mido, wha-"

he turns to me, forcing a smile onto his face.

there he goes again with his "don't worry about me" bullshit, i think angrily,

it looks ridiculous, that smile of his- with the tears still streaming down his face and his bloodshot eyes. but he waves his hands in the air all the same, as though trying to dismiss my words.

"sorry, i'm just tired. i'm just gonna run to the washroom, don't worry! i'm fine, really! so-"

he spins toward the door, but i'm faster. frustration rising, i grab his arm before he can leave the room and yank him towards me on the bed. flipping him over, i trap him between me and the sheets, glaring down at him.

"don't do that" i snap, anger pushing through my concern for him.

"what?" he protests, "i'm fine, i swear! i just-"

leaning down, i press my lips to his, effectively cutting off his next few words. he lets out a startled noise, but stops fighting me after a few seconds as he begins to kiss me back.

his lips are wet, and he tastes like salt, which i know is because of the tears, but i say nothing as i hold him a little closer.

i'm seriously going to kill monoma tomorrow.

pulling away, i stare down at him, softening as i take in how he averts his gaze, this time because of embarrassment.

at least he's not avoiding me completely.

gently cupping his jaw, i guide his face to mine in an attempt to have him look at me, and he reluctantly raises his head to meet my gaze.

"don't lie to me, alright? i know today was tough, and you don't have to talk about it if you don't want to. i'm not going to force you. but just... trust me, okay?"

midoriya nods slowly, and i can see his eyes are starting to water again. sighing, i roll us over so that i'm lying against the pillows spread out on his bed, and he's resting on my chest. pushing his head into my shoulder, i weave my fingers into his forest green curls.

letting the silence of the room swallow us up, he clings to my shirt and takes deep breaths to calm himself, and i let him relax against me as i untangle the occasional knots that i find in his hair.

"you need to remember that when we got together, it wasn't just because. it was a promise. i am yours just as you are mine, and that means i'm going to be here for you."

i look down and find him gazing up at me, biting his lip in an attempt to keep his tears at bay.

i plant a soft kiss on his forehead, before smiling at him.

"all you gotta is trust me, darling. i'm right here."

he lets out a sheepish laugh, before burying his face into my neck.

"thank you y/n."

Apparently, a hot take on hive-mind tumblr?

Every time I see a post that equates pro-shipping or difficult, problematic themes in (fan) fiction and books and other stories with actual, real-life SA or whatever the topic is, I automatically assume that the OP lacks critical thinking skills and media literacy, fell for the dangerous Puritan movement that's sort of going on in the US (and other countries, too) right now and is likely 14 y/o (or at least mentally stuck at that age) and simply jumped up on that dangerous bandwagon of wanted censorship.

Also, a little bit of hope dies within me.

I could write a damn essay on why equating the “experiences” of fictional (read it again: fictional aka NON-EXISTENT characters) with the trauma and experiences of real-life people is incredibly harmful and hurtful.

To somehow put the plot of a story on the same level as what actual victims went through under the guise of "omg you write/read something like that, so you must support this" is so disrespectful, on so many levels. To everyone affected.

(for example: in my story, I wrote about a 4 y/o girl that got kidnapped by child-traffickers. Does not mean that I a) condone that shit in any way shape or form in the real world and b) am a kidnapper and/or child trafficker myself...? I don't even know why this needs to be clarified?)

Only because some people don't like something that does!not!actually!harm! a real-life person, doesn't mean that that thing should be forbidden or censored. This is so, so incredibly dangerous. I feel like we have learned nothing from history. How about we just start burning books again? That worked out amazingly in the past and wasn't a catalyst for any big issues at all, right?

Assuming stuff is properly tagged, it's your own responsibility for what you consume online. If you are under 18, this applies too. A lot of authors feel uncomfortable to sharing their work with minors, which is completely fine, and they are in the right to do that. If you still continue to read a story (or in the case of AO3, click "accept" when the warning pops up that a story might include adult themes (graphic description of violence, sex, language, whatever, really): then it is on the minor (or the parents who didn't oversee their child's internet activity). Authors are not their parents or guardians. If minors have unrestricted access to the internet (which I am not sure they should have, at least not when you're 12 or something, but then again: I'm no one's parent), then all you can do is learn by experience. You lie and pretend you're older than you are? You click "understand" and read a story that involves adult themes?

If you do all that, despite the site's warning or the author's warning, then you do not get to complain that the story is intended for people who are older than you, have more media literacy and critical thinking skills to be able to differentiate between fiction and real life or the fact that the story contains adult themes — as it was tagged. WHATEVER adult themes are included.

Trying to censor stuff or illegalize things only because YOU subjectively think they are wrong or immoral or whatever opens the door to a lot of dangerous effects that we, in a civilized society, had to work hard to bounce back from in the past — historically speaking.

Some countries still have major restrictions and censorship of stories, books, and whole websites (that do not harm people) and it was often possible to implement such laws and censorships because it was argued (in the beginning) that it was for the protection of young people or because all porn is inherently bad or stuff like that. Then, it opens the doorway to a lot of other censorship, and then it's too late or very, very hard to reverse.

Idk, there are just so many things wrong with the notion of "anti-shipping" or "I wanna censor shit you read/write because I don't like it/think it's immoral" and, personally, it just rubs me the wrong way.

God, I can already feel people starting a discussion or blocking me or unfollowing me or whatever. And you know what's the beauty of it? You can do that — because we, luckily, have the power and responsibility to be in charge of what content we actively consume online. :)

P.S. I shouldn't have to say this, but obviously (as stated) my take on all of this only applies to fictional characters. Writing SA stories on real, existing people (celebrities or not) is not okay.
