so the main thing with how Lando's stops for long periods to think and mull it over is for two reasons: one is that he hasn't done the usual PR aspect of his rs with Oscar the way he has with other drivers/teammates - and the other is that if he found Oscar dull or uninteresting then he wouldn't have had to sit and think aslfgsaljfgsajl. Lando's rly good with the media and honestly this answer would've been rly easy and quick if he could just say "yeah he's very fast and a good guy! hard worker and solid teammate!" bc it's not like anyone is expecting any more about a guy like Oscar anyway!
and with everyone else, Lando's got lots of anecdotes and jokes and shared activities as well as lots of experience interacting on camera in ways that give fans something to enjoy. it's not being disingenuous, it's just that they can easily tailor the friendship to be useful for publicity.
but !!! it's also the case of all of Lando's friends on the grid being extroverts as well as being great on camera. and Lando maybe could be seen as an extrovert but he's also naturally (self-confessed as well as confirmed by those closest to him) painfully shy and he relies on extroverts around him to help him out a lot. I got this ask that we don't even need proof of bc it's exactly how Lando is when he's alone among strangers or around huge crowds. same with when he has to do publicity stuff all alone the thinking silences stretch and he gets that upward inflection where he's trying very hard to see if the other person knows what he means??
and Osc is very much not an extrovert and while he likes the odd shared activity, he has said he prefers quiet conversation in small groups away from public places. so literally ! the ways he and Lando are compatible are simply in enjoying spending time together and being extremely low pressure friends who don't like the publicity aspect encroaching on that.
so how do you describe someone to a stranger if they're just quietly a good, reliable person who you like and work well with ?? Oscar himself needs a fair amount of prodding and encouragement to describe himself, let alone Lando being asked to do it !!
which I think is why landoscar has actually had this strong resonance for a lot of us who have those kinds of friendships or love those kinds of people - you can only see it and get to know it by observing it and knowing it in a way yourself. the way Oscar stares at Lando and does his little self-assigned duties to Lando and the way Lando watches Oscar in that wide-eyed trusting way and lets his brattiness out bc Oscar will always find it endearing. none of that makes for snappy PR content but if you get the vibes then it's so so sooooooo sweet ;__;
it's also why their dynamic lends itself so much to fic authors bc you've got a strong foundation of their authentic dynamic since they can't/don't fake it or play it up, from which you can put them in any scenario or any roles and they just… write themselves! not in a sense that the author isn't putting the work in as a writer skfgalsfg but the strongest thread among landoscar fic is that dynamic always coming through so consistently (even in the more challenging dark fic or out there AUs) the classics I can think of first off are playdate by debrief, that one from work can come over on monday night by higgsbosonblues and q&a by corsi
the common development of how Oscar is so blatantly changed by Lando in ways that seem either superficial or purely practical so that Lando ends up initially missing out on the depth of what that means - and misinterpreting Oscar not changing emotionally for him as disinterest. only to find that when someone who is solid and reliable and knows who they are decides they love you, they show it by changing their life for you and not changing themselves for you.
and that irl considering that Oscar always says how important it is for his relationship with Lily that he spend time with her that isn't connected to his career/life's passion, it's clear that he considers that to be proof of how much he cares. so all of the little ways Oscar bends and adapts and fulfills Lando's practical needs are ways for him to say "I value you" "I make you a priority in my life" "I want to fit you into my life" "I am willing to give up something/change something for you"
like idk how much Lando realizes the significance of those things and that's how I interpret him spending a very long time mulling and thinking rather than just getting past the answer in a neat, succinct way. bc Max F is a very emotionally intelligent guy and very capable of expressing his feelings, all of the guys on the grid are varying levels of emotional awareness/intelligence but they all have the same regular expectation of using their words to express how they feel about friends, and ofc the people surrounding Lando for the past ten years are highly attenuated to his needs. Oscar stands out as this very very different person to what he's used to!
and lastly, there's the whole gentleness and communicating through their kitten smiles and their ways of getting lost on a random subject - they're just such a quiet, gentle introverted dynamic. there's this moment after Japan last year waiting for a train, as well as this moment from Vegas where the crowd is singing happy birthday to Lando that I think are like, poetic levels of how their shyness/introversion fully matches up. bc neither of them feels easy or comfortable actually interacting with the crowd, so they keep looking to each other and smiling for comfort and reassurance. if another driver from the grid were around they could probably rely on him to brazen out the situation, but these two kittens just find solidarity in each other to get through!
so a lot of what makes landoscar a flop for bromance-only ppl is what a lot of us love about it <3<3<3 like I love a good bromance and self-aware PR ships too but landoscar made me want to get an f1blr and write insane pointless dissertations about them so shrug emoji !!

Something I think about a lot and wonder if maybe gets overlooked in Twilight’s story and as vitally indicative of his character is actually in the very first chapter:
Anya isn’t needed for Strix. Twilight decides to adopt her anyway.

[Spoiler warning: Mostly this post deals with early chapters already in the anime but there is reference to chapter 62, which has not yet been animated and will be in season 3]
Twilight decides it — “I’m going to rework the mission so it doesn’t involve a child because that’s too dangerous” and he’s 100% right! Donovan Desmond is canonically a far right warmonger with fascistic authoritarian aims. His government made liberal use of the SSS — a group to mirror the Stasi — who continue to operate in morally dubious ways (much more likely they’re actively morally reprehensible, though we’ve mostly only had rumours of that so far). From what we can tell, Desmond is at best an absent father and likely actually worse than that: if that's how he treats his own children, imagine how he might treat others. And the timeline seems to indicate that the experimentation performed on Anya was done under Desmond's government — even if Twilight isn't aware of experimentation on children, he is aware of both human and animal experimentation under Desmond's government. Taking all that and also the complexity of Strix's aims, undoubtedly there were other things that could be done, more straightforward if not necessarily easier.
So. Why? Why entertain the change at all? And then, having entertained it, why go back when the reasoning is indisputable?

On the Doylist level, I think Endo wanted to ensure that Anya had some agency within the set up — Endo also does this with Yor. It would be much harder to be on Twilight’s side fully, or to trust him on an ethical level/take him as any sort of moral authority, if he were just straightforwardly using these two people. To have them be active and consenting participants (arguably to actually be affirming the arrangement: Twilight sets it up, but Anya and Yor actually make it happen) even if the audience only knows the depth of their knowledge/motivations/etc currently, shifts the power dynamic in important ways.
But it also the set up tells us important things about Twilight. He is largely impatient, cold, detached in chapter one. His overarching feelings towards Anya are, I think, real annoyance, real confusion, and real impatience. He just doesn’t understand this damn kid and it turns out she’s a person which is frankly unacceptable — he’d needed and anticipated an automaton, ideally of himself in miniature form. (Though I think one could ponder whether Twilight was, in many ways, an automaton himself at this point, but that's maybe for another meta 🙃)
He’s not entirely unmoved of course — we're given to understand he’s affected when Franky tells him how many times Anya’s been adopted and returned, and isn't amused by Franky's joke about names. Franky's comment — "Just don't get attached" — reinforces this. The prospect of “the future” perturbs Twilight when he’s reading the parenting books. His initial reaction to Anya’s kidnap is horror. All these are true too.
Then there’s also this, from earlier in the chapter:

It’s exposition, yeah, and it’s also exposing. "Hopes" and "joys" are very specific words to describe those events. It could simply have been "A marriage? An ordinary life?" but describing them as such — hope for marriage; joy in ordinary life — expose something of what Twilight feels about those two experiences and, on the flipside, they expose what he deems he's lacking. No hopes of intimacy; no joy in (an ordinary) life. There's an argument as well, of course, that he's being ironic but I don't think that actually invalidates the above analysis. Drawing attention to 'hope' and 'joy' at all are revealing, regardless of Twilight's tone in thinking of them. I think it's also interesting this panel, taken in conjunction with a pair of panels in chapter 62, Twilight's backstory. The above is almost a pulled out version of this below panel of Twilight's recollection of his childhood, and of course the returning image of not just a rubbish bin but a rubbish bin on fire when it comes to disposing of his identity:

Back to Strix. Both his final interaction with Karen and the whole everything of the framing of Strix is making Twilight think (and feel, ahem) things that he hasn't for some time. Twilight decides, I’m reworking this. It can’t proceed this way. Not because Anya is a pain in his ass, not because she’s not as (apparently) intellectually advanced as he’d originally thought, not even because he thinks he can find another child who would better be exactly what mission parameters called for. And what changes his mind is Anya asking to come home.

One of the important parts of this to me is this:

He seeks consent.
This moment is a keystone, I think, to understanding Twilight. It’s also more telling than he maybe realises. Twilight is decisive — we all laugh because he spirals at the drop of a hat when his daughter or wife look even mildly upset but outside those (also very telling) scenarios, he makes decisions and he pursues them. Often he makes decisions quickly. He’s a dab hand at it; it’s a large part of why he’s as good a spy as he is.
He’d decided to change Strix.
Anya asks him, in essence, not to.
So, he doesn't.
But it's wild that he entertains keeping her request at all — why? Why even entertain it? It’s dangerous; it’s impractical; there are too many moving parts outside his direct control; Anya isn’t the sort of child he’d wanted for the mission if he’d spent any time thinking about what a child might actually be like; Strix is in many ways an extremely long shot anyway, Desmond could just stop attending for reasons unknown and unrelated; etc.
So, yeah, why? Maybe because of this —

In conjunction, I often think of this moment in the cruise arc:

Twilight first naming the feeling as lonesome, and secondly tacitly conceding that he perceives Yor as a companion and that that relationship is important to him, something to be missed. What makes this for me though is that Anya calls this out "Papa's you're so sappy" and Twilight's reaction is that of someone caught-out. He doesn’t say “nuh-uh!” but he may as well have. Essentially, something landed a bit close to home, hm? Maybe some of that hope for marriage? A soupçon of joy of an ordinary life?
Twilight’s loneliness underpins many of his decisions with his family — probably without him being fully conscious of it. I think he is at least somewhat conscious of it, but also if he looks too closely... Well, best not to. I could fill this post, I think, with images that demonstrate his loneliness throughout the series; that sorrowful/pensive close-up of his eye(s) is one of the abiding motifs for Twilight throughout. I'd probably start with this one from Twilight's backstory arc:

Anya's request plays directly off his loneliness. Still though, he doesn’t immediately capitulate — he emphasises Anya’s choice. Is she sure? The last day has been scary for a child (and for him, but he's ignoring that part) and Twilight, in his increasing recognition that Anya is a person, is probably aware in the back of his mind that he hasn’t exactly been warm or welcoming or at all patient with her. Things that people respond to — he's otherwise excellent at manipulating people, so of course he understands this. So. Given she'd just had this scary experience, given he hasn't exactly been great with her: Is she sure? She wants to come home — with him?
I think the moment may get a little lost because Anya says something riffing off his own earlier thoughts and self-revelation (featuring that shadowed, lonely eye motif again!)

Were this a post about Anya, I’d talk about how it’s an important character moment for her as well by way both of demonstrating her agency/choice and also that she isn’t nearly as dumb as Twilight thinks (and the audience, maybe, also thinks).
But in my view, she didn’t actually need to say anything about it making her cry. I think she could simply have said yes in that moment and Twilight would have agreed.
Twilight’s an unreliable narrator; he’s disconnected from his heart and that shrouds his own motivations from himself — something he actually also concedes in this chapter!

And it shrouds from us just how much he actually understands himself. He’s also a master of deflection. Easy to assume or say that bringing Anya home is just to align with Strix. Nothing more to see here; nothing else going on. But also that ripping off of the mask in the panel above — and the literal 'riiip' sound effects — also indicate to us that this is an unveiling to himself.
In my view, Twilight agreeing to Anya's request, deciding to go back to original mission parameters, actually shifts his motivations, subtly. Now he’s committed not only to the original mission goals, but also to Anya. He needs Anya to succeed at Strix, not only for Strix's sake, but also because otherwise the mission will end and she’ll have to go back to the orphanage, and he’s just agreed with her not to do that (not right away, in any case). I don’t think at this point he’s thinking it’s forever — his thoughts throughout the manga indicate he still expects the Forgers to be temporary. I don't think the shift in motivation is necessarily even conscious, but given the set up, I think something inside Twilight recognises that agreeing to bring Anya home is a compact, jointly engaged. Mostly all this has become subsumed into Strix: he makes decisions. He pursues them. He deflects, even from himself. Of course it's just for the mission; this saved him the trouble of reworking it, of figuring out something else. Nothing more to see; no need to think any more on it. And to be fair to him, Strix is very high stakes, resting pretty solely on his shoulders, so of course that is, objectively, motivation enough. Why even consider beyond that?
But I personally think that to the extent he's aware of it at all, there is something else going on, that he wants to have Anya for as long as it takes him to work something else out for her. If that's the case, then of course, we have Occam’s razor: the simplest solution may be the best one.
Maybe Twilight should just keep Anya himself, eh?

If I can take a moment to share my experience as a trans woman on the internet
My experience is by no means unique, it's just one experience in the plethora of trans feminine experiences and not unique to only tumblr. Though, I'll mostly talk about what I've experienced here. In the light of recent events, the reaction of "the ceo," and the comments he contributed regarding dog pile harassment; I simply wish to share my experiences that I have had to juxtapose the dynamic of his statements against a lived experience.
This account started as a way to document my social transition and eventually my journey with HRT. Tumblr had always had a large lgbtqia+ community. The queer people here inspired me and gave me hope. What I didn't know, but soon learned, is that there were people here who hated me for being trans. Being early in my transition I was a prime target. TERF groups would plan raids on my account. What this entailed was: rebloging my selfies into circles that would say the most vile things about me, threaten to kill, tell me I was ugly, tell me that everyone I knew thought I was a joke, I was a monster, my family hated me, that I should kill myself, they'd download and edit my photos into caricatures or depictions of violence. They would fill my ask box with hundreds of asks detailing how they'd kill me, call me slurs, describe the ways that I should kill myself, and pretty much everything else I mentioned above with the reblogs. Their words were carefully curated to try and break me, break my spirit, break my will to live. I tried reporting it. But it was impossible to keep up with, and like many others I saw no real response. Eventually I learned that I had to block all of them. 100's of blogs, eventually 1000's of blogs. My block list these days is incredibly extensive. I had to wade through their blogs, traverse sickening hate speech and imagery to eliminate entire circles of people harassing me. I became jaded to the hate speech, hardened to it. But mind you, I shouldn't have had to expose myself to all of this just to be at peace here amongst my community. I received no help, I was left to my own devices to protect myself. The people who hurt me never saw consequences. It was painful, it was unfair, and no one else should have to put the hours upon hours of effort and exposure to hate in to protect themselves like I did. But again my experience is not unique.
I have had to repeat this process of preemptive blocking periodically once a new circle discovers me. Blocking them all before they can start the process of hate all over again. A process of hate that seems to be hitting my community with rapidly increasing fervor as of late.
I've seen others experience far worse than me. The TERF circles will hunt down their personal information and doxx them. Expose their home address, telephone numbers, names of their family members. I can't begin to imagine the terror my queer siblings must feel when someone tells then that they want to murder them all while showing them that they know where you live. This is not a new thing, not a rare tactic, it happens. And we've all seen the news stories of trans people being murdered by people who planned it and were vocal about it.
I know this is depressing. And it doesn't reflect all of my experiences. I've had wonderful experiences here, met amazing people, made close friends, found inspiration, found hope. I found a community.
And it's my community, and I never want to let it go.
I do have fear that making this statement will get me banned. But, I wanted to say it. I wanted it to exist in the world so that everyone who doesn't know our experiences has a chance to understand and with luck empathize.
I'll part on these words and hope for the best both for myself and for every member of the community.

Ok this might be an unpopular opinion but someones gotta say it...
Cassandra is a better Casey Jones than Casey Jr
Ive gotta be honest... i think casey jr is a kinda mid and i dont particularly think all the fanfare about him is warranted LOL
I want to note real quick that i dont DISLIKE him! He is a good character who only got as much development that a 2 hour movie could give him, and he filled and satisfied the role he needed to play in the movie, but the way the fandom latched onto him over the og casey... kinda makes me raise a brow

But the amount of attention given to casey jr after being revealed as casey is a wild amount compared to the amount of attention the original casey gets. Maybe its just me getting into rottmnt after the movie aired, but this seems a little baised?
Not only that, but the amount of... idk the best way i can think to describe it is infantilization of casey jrs character isnt helping my opinion of him. It feels like most content surrounding him babify him and reduce him only to his trauma post movie. I understand that it can be interesting to explore his trauma now that he no longer lives in the literal apocalypse, but it feels strange to see him reduced to someone who cant get around on his own and lives with the turtles when the original pitch for the movies ending has him leave to explore the world, which i feel is very appropriate for him and wish they had kept it in

In the movie when april shows us where the og casey has been and what shes been doing throughout the film, it tells us that casey is friends april which in theory, shouldve also shown us that she and the turtles are friends to some degree as well and should already have her place established within the group as this generations casey jones

However the final shot of the movie is a group shot of the family+casey jr, which subtlety implies that he's the new casey instead, and that this is the main cast moving forward (should it move forward *sob*). While both caseys being considered in the main cast could be true, it does strike me as a little odd that this was the final direction the rot team decided on for the official ending versus the scrapped ending, especially because it complicates the pre-established canon. It wouldve been one thing if our og casey was a different character, but that isnt the case.. y... (<_<)

Casey jr is an interesting character though! And i can understand why he appeals to fans, especially as his character post movie is fun to expand on aswell as developing his past involved with future versions of the main5, but one (me lol) could argue that the og casey is just as interesting of a character to delve into as she was involved, when you boil it down, a cult most of her life, and that concept, as well as the guilt she could hold for working with the foot and releasing the shredder, ontop of trying to befriend and gain the turtles and aprils trust are also intriguing concepts that could be explored, yet finding content that mentions her at all beyond her relation to casey jr is scarce

It feels as though shes been reduced to a background character within the fandom despite being a reoccuring character for the entire show.
For the two seasons of rottmnt that we did get, we are shown just what kind of character casey is and her possible dynamics with the turtles+april. Shes passionate and powerful and beyond determined to prove her worth and reach her goals. Shes also playful and reckless, a side that fits well with the main cast and their humor and, if the show was given more time, couldve developed naturally as the newest addition to the family as most caseys are. I could also argue that her characterization fits that of previous caseys more than casey jrs does (though i will admit that considering the plot of the movie, i cant positively say what hed be like outside of life or death scenarios, but i also cant imagine hes going to make a 180 in personality without it feeling jarring and ooc)

Now, i wont ignore the fact that her arc was cut horribly short and her involvement in the movie was quite literally a brief mention, both of which definitely play into how under appreciated she is. But at the same time it almost feels like everyone, including the show runners, have willingly pushed her aside for this new boy version to fill the role of casey jones. Hell, even when you look up rottmnt casey jones, cassandra barely shows up. Its casey jr which further proves my point
Idk, TLDR im pretty disappointed that despite being a consistent character for the entire show, no one seems to write or acknowledge her and if she is mentioned, its only relevant to push forward casey jrs character development or a brief cameo. As much as i do love casey jr (i can feel like hes mid and i can like him!) it seems like most people forget about the original casey, or favor casey jr in her place and she deserves more love and credit than shes given!

Even though they are really popular and usually in the center, they'll talk to you, pay attention to how you're feeling and encourage you to talk more in the group! It may put you on the spot, but that's how they show they care. I find it really sweet, they just want to help you get out there and approach people. They're great friends, especially if you were around toxic people previously, these fellas will kinda heal you in a way ❤️‍🩹

I love how they always listen to both sides of the story and try to find solutions that are fair to everyone. They're generally sweet and angelic, they tend to forgive a lot (don't you think they'll forget it tho, they'll probably be more cautious around you afterwards) up until you hurt them deeply. After that, they get sarcastic and cold, you do not want to get on their bad side. Regarding their physical appearance, I've noticed a lot of them have full lips and freckles (or multiple beauty marks on their face). I'm getting a cute energy just by looking at them, I don't know why, I just found every Libra I've met so far adorable in a way. Sure, they're mostly described as handsome and beautiful (and they are, not gonna lie) but I'm just seeing an innocent? youthful and carefree image of them. Also they're kinda curvy? Even the more lean ones are a little thick in the booty or thighs. 🤭
☄. *. ⋆ I've noticed Scorpios suddenly becoming really soft and smiley around kids and pets. They'll start cooing and waving at the kids, might even talk or play with them (if they know them well). Similarly, they'll get excited at the sight of a puppy or a kitten and will probably pet them and give them snacks. And what amazes new even more is that kids and pets seem to like them back! I don't know what it is about Scorpios and their energy, but I've seen so many babies/toddlers staring and smiling at my Scorpio peers in fascination, and whenever we encounter stray animals they seem to gravitate towards them. It's really cute to see that, warms my heart a lot. Like, intimidating who? I'm only seeing cute happy people ☺️
☄. *. ⋆ Capricorn moons have a hard time opening up about things that bother them. Even if they feel the most comfortable with you, they'll most likely hide some things. They'll talk about it eventually, but they'll probably reveal small parts of it each time, kinda like building a puzzle but taking many breaks in between. Maybe they feel like they can be judged and/or mocked and want to see how others react first? I hope you guys are surrounded by sweet and accepting people that you can trust and share things that trouble you with them 🤍

Strong willed, they know exactly what they want. Probably people pleasers, even if your mind is telling you to do your own thing instead, you will probably have a hard time saying no. Yeah, but why is no one here to pat you on the back and give you reassurance yet? Where's the support? Hate independence. insufferable ─ that's the only word your friends could think to describe the dance of oblivious feelings between you and deuce. they didn't know if you were being blind on purpose; or if you truly were lost to the feelings deuce expresses on an everyday basis. (and whether or not you were oblivious to your own feelings for deuce, that were rather obvious to your band of first years.)
it's only more peeving knowing deuce is not only oblivious to your feelings for him ─ but to his own for you. he's clueless. (and ace is sure he is going to have a head of gray hair before he’s seventeen if he has to watch his dormmate be so stupid, completely unaware that he was head over heels for you.) it was like a puzzle, trying to figure out whether or not he was being obvious about his feelings towards you because he wanted you to know or if he truly hadn't realize what his feelings for you were. ─ and they'd prefer it if it was the former; they can handle third wheeling if it was deliberate but this is frustrating.
even their upperclassmen have noticed the obvious, often asking your friends if you guys have started dating, only to show genuine surprise in learning that you guys are only friends. ─ and yet you guys remain completely clueless.
it would be comical if it didn't leave the first years absolutely seething every time they have to sit there in the midst of the both of you with the same back and forth. (even grim understands there's something different about your relationship, and he only thinks about food and magic half the time!)
deuce has always been kind ─ or, tried to be. he showed his care and support for his friends in different ways, outgoing in his expression. but with you, it was just so different. ─ sure, perhaps there was a build up, but eventually it became so obvious that deuce treated you with feelings that weren't nearly close to the same platonic ones he felt for the others. 
jack and epel would think twice before throwing themselves into someone else's problems, and sebek had a lot more to worry about as malleus' retainer; but they too, have found the dynamic between you and deuce, put simply, frustrating.
and so they were all in agreement; they think it might be time for them to take matters into their own hands ─ and they are not happy about it (well, excluding maybe ortho).

the plan of operation matchmaker (dubbed by one ortho shroud, despite many protests to the idea of it being anything of the sort) was simple enough; confront deuce and tell him to do something about his feelings for you ─ or at least accept that he had feelings for you at all.
well, it was supposed to be simple, but it was much easier said then done, they realized, when they attempted to put it into motion.
but deuce, they forgot, is stubborn.
"you're in denial!"
"i am not!"
there were collective groans from the group in response to deuce's denial. it had been the same back and forth since they'd invited deuce to jack's room, where they corned him and told him he had to do something about his feelings for you. ─ even going so far as to present evidence to deuce (curtesy of ortho's many abilities) that he did indeed like you more than he once thought he did.
although it did seem to be working, for the most part ─ he did seem to realize what they'd been telling him was true, but instead of him accepting it, he seemed to turn to denial. (ace looked ready to pull out his own hair the more this back and forth of yes and no continued.)
they were running out of options here ─ they knew they couldn't force deuce to confess fo you, but at least not denying it would be a good step to easing the annoyance all of them felt when faced with the interactions between two pining fools (that being, you and deuce, of course).
but then ace decided to say something that went completely off script ─ derailing what they discussed beforehand entirely.
"if you're not going to confess, i'll do it."
"what?" epel whispered, staring at ace with an incredulous expression, and jack and sebek were no different. (meanwhile, ortho was more intrigued at the sudden turn of events ─ which made sense, he was quite excited at the thought of playing matchmaker. ─ even though that's not what they were doing to begin with.)
"what are you doing?" epel asked, addressing him in a tone almost accusing him of losing his mind (and perhaps he was).
ace waved him off, choosing to ignore the question in favor of staring at the spade. deuce was visibly confused, which was unerstandable ─ only ace really understood what he was talking about, while the others remained just as confused as the boy they had intended on confronting together.
"what are you talking about?" deuce asked, eyes squinted at the heart, "what does that even mean?"
ace huffed, pointing his nose up and crossing his arms, "i'm going to confess to the prefect for you."
oh.
"what!" it wasn't just epel who exclaimed this time, as collective shouts followed ace's words, coming from the group of first years in a mix of shock, horror, and excitement.
deuce glared at his dormmate, but ace didnt seem the least bit affected. "quit it already ace." ─ whether or not ace intended to really go through with his threat, deuce's words seemed to almost come off as a sort of challenge to the heart by the way his eyes narrowed in return.
and the others knew, this was not going to end well.

things were silent for a while after the failed meet-and-convince to get deuce to accept his feelings. it had become a back-and-forth between deuce and ace after the heart threatened to tell you about deuce's feelings for you. (the others assumed; this was ace's way of getting deuce to accept that he did like you more than platonically. and it worked ─ as well as the threat could ─ as deuce did stop denying it.)
there was no telling whether ace truly meant his threat; if he intended to act on it if deuce did nothing. but nonetheless, it lingered in the air, held over deuce's head like a fly that wouldn't go away regardless of how much he swatted at it.
with all the evidence laid out in front of him ─ his friends being the ones to realize something he didn't about his own actions and feelings ─ he knew it was true.
but what was he supposed to do now? you were one of his best friends! he couldn't confess and risk ruining that! he doesn't think he could live with himself if he ever made you uncomfortable because he caught feelings for you.
(he's hopeless, absolutely hopeless, ace thinks ─ it's so obvious in his expression.)
"you're hopeless." and ace was not afraid to make sure deuce knew that
"what?" deuce asked, blinking at ace. forced from his thoughts, deuce realized he'd been lost in thought as they sat in the cafeteria, waiting for the rest of their friends to show up. (he's been doing that a lot since he'd realized what his feelings for you were ─ spacing out.) he squinted his eyes at ace, who pursed his lips at him, as if he should know what he was talking about. "i didn't even say anything!"
ace rolled his eyes, "you don't have to, it's written all over your face!"
"what are you talking about?"
"the prefect totally feels the same, you know." ace shrugged, choosing to brush off deuce's question in favor of answering his thoughts that remained unvoiced.
before deuce could say anything in reply, he was interrupted as you sat beside him with grim climbing onto the table to take the second tray you'd been carrying. you smiled, seeming oblivious to the way deuce tensed beside you as you greeted them, "hey guys."
the spade cleared his throat, "hi, [name]."
"hey prefect." ace greeted halfheartedly, glancing between the two of you.
he smiled almost mischievously, and deuce caught it, sending him a glare that went completely ignored. "say, prefect," he drawled innocently, and you hummed in response. deuce eyed him suspiciously, but ace brushed off his stare as he continued, "you like deuce, right?"
"ace," deuce warned, although it didn't do much as his voice held panic, glancing between you and ace.
"well, he is my friend?" you said, frowning with visible confusion on your face.
ace sighed exaggeratedly, "that's not what i meant."
ace went silent for a moment, too which deuce thought (rather naively) that he had dropped the topic. that is, until ace pushed his chair away from the table, as if getting ready to leave, and sent a cheeky grin full of mischievous intent towards deuce that had the spade tensing.
before deuce could start to understand what the smile meant, ace turned to you and announced, "you know, prefect, deuce here is too much of a coward to say this but he really likes you. and obviously, you like him too, so, i'll leave you guys to it!"
and then he was quickly out of his seat, grabbing grim (who wasn't paying much attention to anything as he ate his lunch until ace scooped him up) and rushing off. grim's protests faded until you could only hear the bustle of the cafeteria, leaving you and deuce alone amidst the noise.
you turned to deuce, whose face was an expression of horror at the confession he surely hadn't had anything to do with.
"i'm sorry." he quickly apologized, his shoulders dropping as he lowered his head. he looked ready to disappear before you. ─ you can guess ace's intentions for confessing deuce's feelings; whether it was true or not (and it seemed to be by deuce' expression), neither of you two would've confessed your feelings, at least not any time soon.
you smiled, admittedly, finding it almost amusing at the sheer ridiculousness of the circumstances ─ of a wingman who obviously was not asked to be one at all, confessing feelings that weren't his to confess. you'd be upset if it wasn't like a scene out of a questionable comedy movie. but taking in the rather horrified and rejected expression on deuce's face, you thought to push those thoughts back to address the situation first.
you reached over to place a hand on deuce's shoulder, "deuce," you said, coaxing him to look at you, to which you gave him what you hoped to be a reassuring smile, "it's alright." you paused, looking away from and down at the table to gather what to say, before looking back at him.
"it's not exactly the idle confession, but i ─ in ace's words ─ obviously like you too." you grinned at him, less reassuring now and more with a tease to it, slipping in a joke that you hoped would help deuce feel the slightest bit better after the stunt ace pulled. "and," you added, straightening out your shoulders, "we can talk more about that later, but i think we should catch that fool first."
it seemed your attitude did help, because deuce snorted, his slumped form relaxing as he lifted his head to nod, "yeah, sounds like a good idea to me."

if abigail didn't know any better, she'd almost think you guys were doing this on purpose ─ a never-ending back and forth with neither of you acting on your feelings for the other (feelings that's she's one hundred percent certain is so obvious between the two of you.)
cowards, she's dubbed you both.
she can't understand how you ─ someone's who has fought monsters on a daily basis, braving even the volcano on ginger island ─ can't even face your feelings for sebastian.
she doesn't think she can take another day of incessant pining from either of you, when you both seem so set on not acting on your own feelings. and for what? ─ was it because you guys were afraid of things being different? ─ or perhaps you guys were so caught up in keeping things friendly that neither of you realized each other's feelings.
regardless of the reason, abigail has had enough.

abigail doesn't know when or how she became so close to you, second only to sebastian when it came to being your best friend. it became almost routine for one of you to show up at either's place to play games or chat. ─ she also doesn't know when you started talking about sebastian so much that she became suspicious of your feelings. but she does remember asking you point blank about your feelings one day, and you, rather awkwardly, admitting to having fallen for him. ─ of course, she knew, she just needed you to confirm it to her.
and she remembers what led to your present conversation quite clearly ─ you couldn't exactly hide from the girl whose father you often purchased supplies from. so, she asked if you intended on giving the bouquet you recently bought to sebastian and ─ well, now you're here.
you groaned, "i can't hide anything from you."
"nope." abigail huffed, nodding her head sternly as if to make it clear to you that you shouldn't try to keep things from her again. she looked back at you with an expectant expression, referring to her previous question upon revealing that she was well aware of the purchase you tried so hard to keep secret. "so?
you glanced away, smiling awkwardly and repeating, "so?"
abigail sighed loudly, slumping back against her bed from where she sat beside you on the floor. she understood that this would only go in circles. "you can't be serious. you bought the bouquet!"
"it was an impulse decision!" you quickly rebutted, elbows resting on your crossed knees as you buried your face into your hands, whether out of embarrassment or shame, abigail didn't know. "i can't give it him!"
"you can't─" abigail took a deep breath, cutting herself off from snapping at you. she thinks she might be losing her mind at this repetitive conversation that she's had far too often with you. (because yes, this is similar to every conversation she's had about trying to coax you to confess; but you didn't actually have a bouquet then, unlike now.)
"where's the bouquet?" she asked instead.
you took a moment to answer, before muffling through your hands, "at home, on top of my bookshelf so my cat can't get to it."
the girl nodded, going quiet as she thought to herself. ─ and she can't believe she's about to do this; but she would like to avoid going gray before she's thirty. ─ she stood to her feet with a stubborn look in her eyes as she began towards the door, calling back to you, "alright, let's go."
you looked up at her, and blinked, "where are we going?"
"just come on." she ordered as she opened her door, and you scrambled to your feet to follow in a confused chase.

turns out your destination was your house.
when you guys stepped onto the porch, you turned to her, ready to question what she was doing, only for her to cut you off with a hand pointing towards the door and a stern expression on her face, "go get the bouquet."
"why?" you asked, not moving from where you stood on the porch in front of her.
abigail held back a groan, "just go get it."
you stayed in place for a moment, eyeing her skeptically. she sighed and gestured at the door again, to which you finally gave in, disappearing into your house for a moment to grab the bouquet you impulsively bought that morning, before joining her back on the porch with the bundle of different colors neatly tied together. (you took extra care of it when you bought it so it remained in perfect shape.)
abigail eyed the bouquet and nodded, yet you remained confused; unsure of what your friend's plans and intentions were now that you had the bouquet in your hands.
"now what?"
she turned away and marched off the porch, "let's go." she gave you no time to protest before she turned opposite the way you guys came, and towards the backroads leading into the mountain. you followed her off the porch quickly, careful of the bouquet still in your arms as you called out to her to wait. she didn't stop to let you question her anymore, expecting you to follow her regardless of how confused you were.
"abby!" you groaned, catching up to her with the bouquet protected and secure despite your running.
as you followed her onto the path and into the mountain, you questioned her about her attitude, but she remained silent with a straight face. ─ a part of you was scared for whatever reason she might have in forcing you to get the bouquet and leading you towards the mountain where sebastian was. (and you hoped it wasn't what you were thinking.)
when the carpenter's shop came into view, you tensed. ─ it was around the time you'd often find sebastian outside, either taking a smoke break, or working on his motorcycle. and you believe you might have an idea as to why abigail was taking you up there now.
you stopped in your tracks and turned away to return to the sanctuary of your home. but it seemed abigail expected your reaction, as she quickly grabbed your arm and began to pull you further along. and while you knew you were stronger than her, you felt your strength leave your body as terror set in when you could hear the sound of tools being put to work, and the low sound of sebastian's music playing over a radio he often had going when he worked.
as you turned the corner, she finally stopped pulling you along, but her hands remained around your bicep, likely to keep you from running off. you could see sebastian, tucked under his motorcycle, and working away, unaware of yours and abigail's presence.
she turned to face you and quietly said, "give it to him."
you could feel your neck turn hot at the idea of finally confessing your feelings, eyes wide and quickly shaking your head in protest to abigail's orders.
abigail rolled her eyes, "if you don't, you'll never see your cat again."
"are you threatening to kidnap my cat?" your mouth went loose, and you had to stop yourself from gasping loudly.
"yes, so if you want to keep your cat, give sebastian the bouquet."
you deflated, staring at her in hopes she'd change her mind and let you run away like you've been doing since your feelings for sebastian had come to light. but abigail was unwavering, narrowing her eyes at you and nudging you closer to where he worked. you could tell you weren't going to win this, so you reluctantly nodded, leading to abigail releasing you so you could finally approach him.
however, you only took two steps forward, before turning back to her with a whine in your tone, "i can't."
abigail groaned, not trying to be quiet anymore as she grabbed your arm once more and marched towards the boy you were too cowardly to confess to.
"sebastian!"
sebastian reacted to the call of his name by sliding out from below his motocycle to sit up. he turned to you and abigail as you stopped in front of him, blinking and visibly caught off guard by your presence.
"oh, hey─" but he cut himself off when he seen the bouquet still in your arms, held protectively to your chest as you tried to look anywhere but at him. he glanced between you and the peeved abigail who pushed you forward, giving you nowhere to run to now that you were in front of sebastian.
"[name]." she said, almost as if warning you ─ and you knew you couldn't avoid it this time.
with a pinch between your brows and a slack of your shoulders, you turned to finally look at sebastian, whose expression was one of shock as you held out the bouquet. "um," you cleared your throat, but found yourself unable to say much with what felt like rocks lodged in your throat.
and then you managed to choke out, "this is for you."
you could hear a whispered finally from behind you when sebastian stood up to be face-to-face with you, visibly flustered as he took the flowers from you, smiling almost shyly.
"i feel the same way."
you'll remember to thank abigail later with her favorite food.

He is the competitive type. And (un)fortunately, you're not exempt from this. 
Haechan's thirst for control is fueled more by his inability to lose, rather than his liking for it. 
He loves challenges, and I sense he can get bored easily of the same dynamic over, and over again. That's why I see Haechan going both ways, as a dominant and a submissive. 
In quite a few words, he is a switch to his core. With that being said, I don't think he enjoys submission just for the act of submitting —he enjoys submission because it is a challenge. 
Because, with the right partner, being in the submissive role will prompt him to fight for power again. And in said fight, anything can be possible —he strikes me as someone who enjoys forced submission a lot more than naturally submitting. 
But rather than labeling him as a switch, dominant or submissive, I have something way better and precise: Haechan can be both a brat, and a brat tamer.

During sex, Hechan doesn't need any sort of physical punishment to ruin you completely. With minimum effort, and just a couple of dirty words, this man is capable of getting deep into your head. 
Slut might be his favorite word during rough sessions, both for you and him (but he won’t admit that out loud). He is also very passionate about pointing out how aroused you are: “I haven't even touched you and you're dripping down your legs, aren’t you embarrassed?”, “think you can come untouched? Pushing his limits just to prove that his pain threshold is great? Hechan's competition is not only his partner in bed, but also himself. His favorite way for you to inflict pain is probably overstimulation, followed by impact play (specifically face slapping).
With all that being said, I think it's important to highlight that reassurance is very important for him —hearing you saying he did well it's not a want but a need.
Haechan is naturally sensitive, so I kind of feel he might fall into a sub/dom drop after each session if the aftercare is neglected (which it shouldn’t! You all know the drill, because aftercare is important after every sexual session, whether it's rough/bdsm-related or not!) However, aftercare with Haechan needs to be really cautious and tender. Knowing you enjoyed everything as much as he did is crucial for him, and will help him get into a healthy after-state.

His love for you is one that resembles complicity —you do it all together and work together (despite the power dynamics saying quite the opposite). Haechan is a sucker for trust and what's familiar, so he feels really comfortable experimenting with the same partner over and over again.
And the possessive aspect within him is quite different from Mark. Rather than him proving himself that you belong to him, Haechan needs to be sure that he belongs to you. That you're constantly choosing him, every day. That you want and need him, and that he has something only he can give you. 
Apart from words of affirmation, physical touch is really high on his love languages list. Hugs, kisses, hand-holding and other forms of petting are to be expected from him. During sex, these displays of affection can be just as rough because of the heat of the moment, but the meaning behind them it's no different than those during a non-sexual context —Haechan needs to feel all of you in all the ways he can. 
Not only that, but it's his own way to communicate without having to use any kind of words. From maintaining eye contact, to holding his hand tight when things start to escalate a bit, mapping and knowing your body language and expressions is a big deal for him.
On that note, his gaze speaks way more than his lips do. And it is such a pretty sight how much he can communicate with them. 
From lust and pain to compassion, I think it's baffling how pretty his eyes are.
How they say exactly what he is feeling, rather than what he is thinking. Haechan can call you all sorts of names and humiliate you in all the ways that you let him, but his gaze will betray him every time: underneath all that roughness, there's a paralyzing and intoxicating adoration for you.

genuinely what the fuck. i don't think i've seen a song franchise as bonkers as charisma house and i doubt i ever will. it's so entertaining and the characters are all unhinged in the best way possible. none of them are 100% good people at the end of the day and i think this just makes the whole ordeal even funnier. are you kidding me you have some random 19 yo who invites people to go live in a random house one day and they just go. the songs are so so good (most of the time. stares at my two exceptions) and whenever it's a full group song? they're always parodies of another common popular song which is so funny to me every time i hear them. i love charisma house and will defend it to the days end
It's so silly and entertaining:) the songs are sick and super catchy . The visuals are super unique .. and the concept of these eccentric crazy guys all living in a house together with the power of charisma has some super hilarious interactions.  Also charisma is the power that can save the world.. and if these guys get too overpowered with their charisma they go through yugioh style transformations and break out into song... so there is that little detail<3
they're just ordinary guys. music part aside the story is funny until it gets serious and then it's funny AND heartwrenching. music part?? group songs are based on nursery rhymes and they fucking suck but also go so hard. their solo songs all have their own genres and they're so. Aodhajhfhdhfbd Stream viva la liberation. 
Funny gay people living in a house together and all their songs parody children's songs, and all their music videos are like Cocomelon on crack. They're funny and they have a lovely found family dynamic. Very silly guys, I'm so normal about them.
Never in my life have i seen a piece of media change me this much as a person while doing the bare minimum. Perhaps the fact that it is the bare minimum and i still fell for it regardless says more about its power than any words could ever begin to describe. So utterly ridiculous in the most perfect way possible and so weirdly deep in also the best way possible but without forgetting its still fucking ridiculous. The appeal of Charisma House is that its Charisma House, and that same thing manages to be both its strength and its weakness, but its weakness is so grand it ends up becoming a strength, and perhaps its biggest strength by far. Talking about Charisma House makes me feel insane emotions because you cant describe it as good but you still know fully well its not bad either despite that being the easiest way to describe it. Sooner than later after so many episodes you'll end up realizing you have fell in its trap. Once you start caring. Once you start analyzing the miniscule tid bits of plot. Once all of that starts occurring you will soon come to realize you have been another victim of the mystical power Charisma House has on every single person that watches it. Or perhaps you just dont fucking care after 5 episodes and you leave it at that. This is perhaps the best option for everyone in the world. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone but the fact that i still do from time to time is because i want everyone else in the world to experience the unknown horrors of this media project until each and every one of them realize they have fallen down a hole they will never be able to escape. also Awwwww ohsebso cute i like ohse aaawwwww so cute 😍

DOGS IN LOVE 3 CAME OUT??!!
For those that have no context, this sentence means nothing to you. And yet, it has all the meaning to me. Dogs in Love is a series, now officially a trilogy, on the JelloApocalypse channel. If you know him, cool! If you don’t know him, he’s a variety YouTuber best characterized by the art and opinions in his videos, although this doesn’t describe all of his videos. His best known series are probably his Welcome to, So This Is Basically, and Marathon Reviews series. He’ll at the same time also play various video games, drink a lot of lemonade, and play an eBay edition of The Price Is Right with his friends. He even has like a little show on his YouTube channel called Epithet Erased! I need to actually watch that sometime… Oh, and yeah, he does good voice acting work!
So, what is Dogs in Love? Basically, they are edited highlight videos with a lot of drawings of Jello and his friends taking the lore of Pokémon Colloseum and Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness and throwing it out of the window during playthroughs for those games, with the group instead deciding to take the characters (Both the Pokémon and the humans) and playing with them like Barbie dolls and action figures.
The original Dogs in Love video focuses on Pokémon Coliseum, following the player trainer and his terrorist Pokémon, with the main focus around a edgy Umbreon who actually turns out to be a dumbo softboy and his partner Espeon who is smart and stressed out of his mind and needs more coffee. As you can guess, they are the dogs in love. In Dogs in Love 2 and 3, both of them focus on Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, with the logical tie in between the two games being that the Jolteon the player trainer has is the sweet and kind demonic child of the two dads of Umbreon and Espeon. Yeah. That’s just the tip of the iceberg.
I cannot fully explain the humor of it for myself. The voice acting as well as the improv comedy done by Jello and his friends makes the whole experience dumb, weird, and hilarious in a brilliant way. The dynamics and relationships of all of the characters are comedically sound, and yet, I feel genuine emotion for all of them. It knows exactly where to scratch my back when I have an itch. And, the thing is, the waits between each of these videos was about a year! Sure, the full streams are right there, but it’s hard because the videos are so good. (I rewatched both videos at my older sister’s wedding!) However, it’s worth the wait, and the videos show that the excellence needed time to cook. Dogs in Love has meant so much to me, but with the trilogy now completed, I look back at these three videos in marvel and with love.

I always love theories and thoughts and worldbuilding hcs etc so anything in that vein works :3
I think my favorite little worldbuilding headcanon is that Ka Bue is super chill about aromanticism and asexuality! Not in the same way as irl activism, but it's something that is understood and respected in their ideology, like transgenderism in Vaugarde. So if we combine the powers of everyone in the crew we'll get an entire queer-friendly worldview going lmao!
Maybe... Something about an overarching philosophy of understanding the self? In Vaugard they see the self as something you refine through making, creating and destroying and rebuilding, but in Ka Bue you're supposed to be uncovering and polishing what's already there. And part of that is understanding your position in relation to others, so they have a lot of little descriptive words for flavors of relationships and dynamics, and being the sort of person who seeks those dynamics. Like "oh i'm usually the comedic straight man of the friend group and i seek out jokesters who play well off of that". And that means that nonsexual romance, nonromantic sex partners, QPRs, etc, are all understood dynamics, and various kinds of friend and family and colleague relationships are seen as distinctly important, and being alone is seen as a valid dynamic!
Now that I've typed this out I love it more and more... I was originally just thinking about the metaphor of cutting and polishing a gemstone, but having a lot of little Dynamics that various people may find more or less relevant to themselves is a similar approach to having thousands of Expressions! And it meshes with the transphobia as well - you can describe yourself as having dysphoria but you're not supposed to go and try to change that.
And there's that Odile + Isabeau conversation where she gets really specific about their relationship: "We're not friends, we're associates. Colleagues. Allies at best." And she's obviously joking, but this hc puts some extra weight behind her making that particular sort of joke! Plus she's the one who's like, "I wouldn't call you all friends, that would be weird, we're more like family," and she gets mad about being called the mom. I love the idea that she has Very specific dynamic classifications in mind for her relationship with each member of the crew, and gets pissy that Vaugardian doesn't have the same nuance/connotations!
And this philosophy being the total opposite of the Change belief is so interesting for Odile in particular! It would definitely flavor people's perception of her in Ka Bue - oh, she's one of those fickle Vaugardians who change masks every day and will never truly understand themselves. No wonder she wanted to get actual Vaugardian perspective on their belief. Oh, how lovely it will be for her to synthesize the two extremes, and both discover and create who she is!!

I think the terms TMA/TME work best when they're used as rules of thumb, rather than expected to function as strict categories. They're often helpful, but occasionally they can become obfuscatory, and there are edge cases where they can't be neatly applied. In those cases, they should be set aside, but with an understanding that they will be brought back into conversations when helpful.
To give a personal perspective - I'm a trans masc individual who has, upon occasion, experienced misdirected transmisogyny. I was on T for 5 years, then came off it (partly due to health problems, partly due to starting to identify as nonbinary rather than as a man) and began presenting in a more feminine manner, and people would regularly mistake me for a trans woman.
When people thought I was a trans woman, I did notice an increase in hostility, harassment and unwelcome advances from strangers. Groups of men would shout at me in the street, mothers would glare at me and physically pull their children further away from me if I came near. I also started getting catcalled and couldn't enjoy a night out in a club without being groped. I'd experienced some of these things as a trans man and as a girl, but probably never at such a high frequency or so intensely.
I definitely think I got a taste of transmisogyny and people do still assume I'm trans fem from time to time. But I still wouldn't describe myself as TMA. I don't shout it from the rooftops, but if it feels relevant in the context of a conversation, I will say I'm TME. Because I think the terms are about overarching dynamics, rather than whether or not an individual has ever faced a single instance of transmisogyny.
For me, there was always a sense of distance between myself and any negative experience, that came from knowing they'd misread my AGAB - "that lad just called me a chick with a dick! How funny! I'd be so lucky!" / "You're harassing me for using the female showers at the gym when I am literally menstruating. Are you going to stop being a creep, or do I have to show you my bloody tampon?" There's a degree to which I can sidestep or disavow their idea of me in a manner trans women can't.
I also don't know what it's like to deal with many other elements of transmisogyny, or deal with it as an overarching narrative in one's life rather than a freak episode.
I think it's fair to say I have at times been a grey area and I could use my experiences to argue against the validity of TME/TMA, but I don't want to do that. I don't like it when the terms are just used as a way to say AFAB/AMAB while being perceived as less problematic. But I think it is helpful to have little shorthand reminders about specific power dynamics that do have an impact in our communities. I have absolutely seen transmisogyny play out in queer spaces, both online and IRL, and I think it's worth having vocabulary that emphatically reminds people to check themselves and to not assume they don't have internalised bias against trans women just because they're trans masc.
Trans women are a boogeyman in popular culture and the collective unconscious in a way trans men never have been (at least, not to anything like the same extent). Trans women face an intensity of monstering that I think most people won't understand unless they spend a lot of time sharing space with and listening to trans women. The rapid adoption of TMA/TME feels like an attempt to fast-track that understanding en masse. Maybe it's a bit clumsy, but I do think it's having an impact and important conversations are happening. I don't know if the terms will stick or fall out of use. Having been in the trans community for over a decade and seeing how our vocabularies evolve, I'm inclined to think they'll stick around for a few years and then largely disappear. But I feel that while trans women are finding them useful, we need to be respectful of that fact.

I'm going to be a bit blunt here: in the span of time I've been off tumblr to, you know, sleep... I've gotten 20 different asks trying to convince me to like the usage of tma/tme and also several transphobic asks about my top surgery. The transphobic ones I blocked and deleted because I'm literally 3 weeks out and will not be dissuaded. But I'm simply not willing to continue arguing a point I've made very clear that I don't love the usage of this particular theory the way it's currently being used.
You can like it for yourself. I have said this over and over again. I do not like it for me, and do not think it is accurate for my life or my experiences or the reality that is what I have to go through on a regular basis. True to everything else that I've posted, I don't really care what you call yourself. If you want to call yourself TME and you believe that framework works for your experience, more power to you. Just don't label me that, because I don't think it works for mine.
Trans women are absolutely a boogeyman in a way that trans men often aren't. That is, unfortunately, one of the ways that hypervisibility is such a curse. Everyone knows what a trans woman is, and a good majority of those people also think the only good one's a dead one. That's bad. That's transmisogyny, and we should ally with trans women to help fix this problem.
Also unfortunately, as trans men become more and more visible to the world, instead of facing mass erasure and dying in silence or escaping to live in stealth, trans men are also beginning to become a boogeyman as well. Now we are a social contagion, a craze, with rapid onset gender dysphoria, mutilating ourselves and ruining our precious bodies, carving out our wombs, simultaneously debasing ourselves and also becoming predators lurking to snatch daughters up and forcefeed them our ideology, betraying women by becoming a mockery of men. What's worse, we tend to politically close ranks with trans women and cis women alike so it's harder for transphobic lawmakers to divide and conquer as they're used to with cis men, so instead they have to demonize us to prevent any further allyship.
That's the conversation trans mascs are trying to have.
Genuinely, I do agree that trans women face an othering that most people do not grasp without understanding transmisogyny theory, which is why I think everyone should have at least a basic understanding of it. But I also think that's true of many other demographics, and that if we want to get out of the pit that bigoted society put us in, we've got to work together to do so. It was, after all, the combined efforts of Marsha P Johnson AND Storme de Laverie that brought us out in the open. And among me friend group, we have people from all different races and backgrounds and genders and more locking arms to ensure the safety of each other, wanting to understand and know each other, lifting each other up.

This question is quite hard for me to answer properly.
First of all, I really loved it. I had a very peculiar and quite strong reaction to it. I'll try to put it in words the best I can.
I'll start with a simple thing: in my 7 years of being a jikooker, that is all I ever wanted to see from them.
Being relaxed, happy, joyous, authentic, confortable.
So this felt like some kind of apoteose. Everything came full circle. For them & for me.
When you think about it, nothing really happened in this episode, they were doing the most mundane things, but there was this vibe of the most comfort, the most warmth, the most quiet and simple love, that my heart was deeply touched by it and after it hit me I really had no words to describe the feeling I had. It's deep stuff lol
Somehow they always exceed my expectations. I'm not those people who say "I expect nothing so I won't get disappointed". No, I expect things. But not because I want them to do certain stuff, more because I feel I know them sufficiently, and some of their patterns, and I see them within the love umbrella, so it gets easier and easier to predict what they might do or not. How crazy this is that they check absolutely all the boxes everytime and confirm every theory? I'm trying to stay sane of mind over here but no they want me to be the most delulu lol
Of course the ambiance really helped the episode to feel dream-like. And we know how much Japan means to them. JK must have said 384737 times how much he loved it and how happy he was.
Nothing was hanging on their shoulders anymore, no burdens, and I think that's why they were able to enjoy it this much.
It's quite insane when you think about it how fluid this all was. Like nothing felt out of place, conversation flowed easily, they are on the same wavelength about everything, they spoke openly, they had fun and let their inner child play, everything felt SO EASY. Their dynamic is just perfect, no hiccups, it just fits, jives, it clicks.
Now I am wondering how the hell they are not already a human representation of the Cosmic couple because if there is supposed to be a next level to this relationship I can't even imagine what that would look like. How much better can it get? It's so full of love already. Anyway I digress
About the child talk, firstly I was expecting this talk in Sapporo indeed. It was obvious they would at least mention it. So when I saw the scene I was already prepared mentally.
It doesn't make me worry about jikook because I think that if at some point they will want a child, they'll get to have one. Jimin or Jungkook can firstly adopt as a single parent (a bill has been passed about this in Korea recently) and then raise the child together unofficially. Or they can use a surrogate mother from overseas or something. You know they are filthy rich so I think if they REALLY want to, they would find a way.
But JK isn't ready about it yet lmao leave this man alone for now 😂
When and if it is the right time for the both of them there will be solutions so I'm not worried. This moment was really cute 🥰
Who knows what the future holds for them. Many years before we would have never expected to see them even shirtless, we would have not believed we would see their dynamic up this close in a show like this.
Things can evolve quickly. Who knows how things will develop with BTS as well, for how long will they remain a group?
It's true they are getting old, in "idol age".
Who knows how the country will evolve too?
I trust Jimin&Jungkook to make decisions about their future that will benefit them and their relationship. Maybe it will involve a child, maybe not. But I personally don't think they would break up because of this. You can see how precious their relationship is for them.
But only time will tell if I'm right.
Anyway, I could go over all the scenes of this episode and talk about it for hours.
I know this was an ephemeral dream for them this trip, like a time capsule, a bubble of normalcy, where everything is and means suddenly more. There was nothing and everything they needed at the same time. Ahh, so beautiful 🥺
I wish their lives were all the time like this, but it is what it is, they had to come down from the cloud, and face their duty, then it will be their schedule, and things will go back to regular program.
But for now I don't mind losing myself in the dream with them, and float, and pretend everything is the way they want it to be.

the bathtub of emotions: a meta
a little while ago, @cardboardsean and i wondered why baths featured so heavily in nmtd + lolilo and half joked about writing a bath meta. it quickly became all too serious and spiralled out of our control. So here we are. an overly serious bath meta.
With the introduction of the aptly named bathtub of emotion in NMTDaily we start to see the beginnings of what will become central characterisations and dynamics for the rest of the series, continuing into LoLiLo. It’s not a coincidence that the first time we see any vulnerability from Ben is when he’s in a bath isolating himself from a party. Throughout both series, the space of the bath, itself an abnormal, isolated, non-normative setting, becomes a space for the characters to experience non-normative emotions which lay at odds with their social performances in the ‘real world’.
Affect and queer theorist Sara Ahmed coined the term ‘affect alien’ to describe a(n often queer) subject who, because of their inability or unwillingness to conform with broader societal expectations for emotional experiences and responses, comes to feel literally ‘out of place’. Emotional displacement becomes spatial displacement. In NMTD and LoLiLo, almost everyone acts as an affect alien within their friend group/community, especially those who at some point end up making a video in a bathtub. Ben is supposed to be fun and easy-going but feels wildly uncomfortable at his best friend’s party. Bea is supposed to be totally independent and not worry about what anybody thinks but is wildly self-conscious about being into Ben. Pedro’s entire arc being a major identity crisis means he ends up spending more time in a bath than anyone else.
Once Ben removes himself from the Fun Teenage party he’s supposed to having Fun at to go sit in a bath in another room, he immediately expresses an ‘alien’ affect, calling the party ‘incredibly downer’ when it’s clear from all the other videos that (most people) were having fun doing normal party things. He uses the opportunity too, to express his hurt over Bea talking shit about him earlier, perhaps not a queer affect for others, but for Ben, who is supposed to be unbothered by Beatrice, who’s supposed to give off a certain impression, it doesn’t align. He can’t express these feelings when he’s in the main part of the house having the argument with her but moves himself to the differently-affected space of the bath to talk to the camera about them.
Once Claudio joins him, it’s notably on the floor next to the bath, not in the bath itself – a literal separation of space which signifies the disjointedness of their emotional communication in the scene. Where Ben is able to talk about his feelings drunkenly, yet openly, Claudio remains closed off. While he’s sad and jealous, that isn’t an unusual affect for Claudio; we’ve already seen it to an extent and will continue to see it again and again. Ben on the other hand, will never again be so emotionally open in front of a camera, or even in front of another person. The conversation between them goes so poorly because of the affectual alienation between them that is bounded by space.
When Pedro joins Ben in the bathtub of emotion, the dynamic totally shifts. Both characters now inhabit the queerly affected space and as they do, their normative dynamic changes. While we know Pedro by now to the be the Conflict Resolver of the group, the one who can chill Ben out and tone down Claudio’s jealousy, here, we see Ben take up that mantle. Pedro’s drunk, doesn’t know what’s going on, and is definitely not in a state to be solving any problems. Ben might be much the same way, but in the bath, he tries. We’ll see this again from Ben, later, but for now it’s a shift in character that’s facilitated by a different spatiality. He’s in costume, he’s not in his bedroom, he can be another person- or really- another side of himself.
For Ben and Bea in BLEURGH, a similar emotional disassociation occurs. It’s the first time we properly see them together since they’ve been in a relationship and while it’s still very much Ben and Bea, we’ve never seen them act this way with anybody. In my own and others’ conceptions of their relationship, especially into LoLiLo, both of them maintain some level of self-conscious concern about what being in a relationship means for their identity. They’ve built identities around being people who don’t need relationships, who aren’t interested in them and are fine by themselves. Now, they’re caught between two desires, they still want to be independent, they also still want each other. One of these desires, therefore, has to be affectively alien to the other. The bath then, becomes a space where all of these feelings can exist together. When Ben and Bea flirt and are physically affectionate in the bath, which they’d previously been disgusted by (another societally mal-affected emotion), they can do so because they have given themselves the liberty of a space outside of space. Here, their romantic feelings or lack thereof don’t need to make sense, they don’t need to conform to normative societal expectations or the expectations they’ve set for themselves. They can simply exist as they are.
These emotional spaces that Ahmed would describe as ‘out of line’ continue into LoLiLo. By positioning the first Balth in a Bath videos straight after the first video of the series, we are immediately given a signpost. By utilising a strange setting, by developing the bath as a space for queer affect, the show is introduced as a narrative of ‘out of place’ feeling. Obsessive anxiety hangs over watching movies and playing games. Calm comes in the face of total restriction and control. People are in love and hate each other and are best friends all at once. Everyone ends up hurt and no one ends up apologising.
In February, Ben is likely filled with conflicting feeling. He’s excited about moving to Wellington but devastated about leaving Bea. He knows he’s supposed to be excited about university but maybe, now that it’s starting for real, he doesn’t feel quite the same way. So he responds the only way he knows how: with a camera and a bath. And his choice to invite Balth is meaningful too. Ben and Balth knew each other in high school obviously but weren’t close. The affective atmosphere has shifted between them now that they share a space and Ben’s anxious about connecting with Balth in a way he hasn’t done before. Hanging out with him in the bath, this mal-aligned space, is a lot easier than the space of the flat which has housemate dynamics and tensions already developing and is in a new city. The bath can exist outside of that space, it can be the bath at Pedro’s house or Ben’s house; familiar and free of the pressure of developing a friendship out of the necessity of living together.
In GUNGE, Ben hangs on to this idea, the golden emotive combination of a bath and a camera. The camera has of course at this point become part of the problem and the bath no longer works its powers either. He’s become so aware that this space can be used to prompt an emotional shift that it no longer works, it only serves to drive him deeper into the emotional intensity of his situation. We haven’t seen Ben, or anyone else for that matter, alone in a bath since Pedro’s party and now he seems almost transported back to that affective space. The bath, since that time, has become a space for connection, relationship building, and Ben being alone now means he no longer has access to the intimacy and understanding the bath gives room for. Instead, he is simply left to wallow in his own affective atmosphere which at the moment, has little connection or intimacy in it at all.
Balth and Pedro are the most obvious utilisers of the queer bath space (and not only because of the queerness). We see a few really good hours of them here that really highlight the best of their relationship but it’s very likely their dynamic was not nearly as chill in general at this time. There’s tension pushing between them from all sides; Peter’s rapidly devolving mental state, an unresolved ‘look’ and a friendship that’s been left to trail off. Now, they can leave the tension outside and act however they’re compelled to act with each other. Balth expects himself to be closed off and unaffected and Peter is likely already getting ideas about isolating himself. Moreover, there are social norms about how to act after a failed love declaration with the person you’re in love with. There’s none of the awkwardness or drama we’ll see between them for the rest of the series. Just the most non-sensical conversation possible. Even while being actively addressed, the camera/audience seems to disappear in the space; the emotional world they are creating together totally overrides the faux-world of the videos. They are given a chance to build their own queerly felt relationship which snaps the bounds of the tension-filled atmosphere which will continue to box them in through the rest of the series.
For Balth and Peter, the bath not only acts as a space for emotional abnormality, but for temporal unintelligibility as well. By spacing out the bath videos across time, months after their filming and amongst an entirely different affectual atmosphere, they take on an entirely new meaning. What Balth and Peter of second semester are feeling often directly contradicts their feelings in February and as a tool for showing their conflicting emotional states, it’s used to great effect, most notably in the climax of the series. Here, Balth and Peter inhabit two emotional spaces at once, and ultimately a space outside of any physically grounded emotional world. Ben is able to use this to develop his own perception of their relationship. For him, the affectual atmosphere in the bath videos becomes not one of unintelligibility but a more objective truth (what @cardboardsean delightfully called the ‘bath of truth’) and he uses their past emotional selves to influence their current ones. By allowing a temporal separation between filming and release, the emotions developed in the videos take on a clarity and directness we don’t see for any of the rest of LoLiLo barring perhaps the songs. Following seemingly little outward logic, the timing of the videos becomes queer in itself, failing to align with any normative structures for either the video project as a whole, or the path of a romantic relationship. Balth and Peter travel on a different, queerer track, stopping in none of the right places and always looping back around.  
In BATHTIME, the space is utilised in a similar way for John and Peter’s relationship. PUNISHMENT is still on everyone’s minds and Ben really does not want to give Peter a real punishment, so it’s likely he’s thinking of BiaB (and his own passion for bathtubs) when the bath idea gets decided on. It’s a space where Peter has been able to relax and connect to people he has a strained relationship with in the past and it works again here. It’s the first and only time the bath is used with water in it and it’s the first and only time we see Peter and John having unfiltered fun together. Their affectual atmosphere has changed dramatically, even from their more recent interactions. Even in LoLiLo their dynamic has maintained a tense undertone, it’s clear, even without knowing their history, that something Happened. In the bath that all washes away; their normative emotional state shifts to one which would be more expected for a sibling relationship. Both of them have lived as affect aliens for a long time, Pedro forcing himself into a mould of what would be considered normal but often feeling wrong underneath, John refusing to make himself less alien. It’s a central driver of their antagonism in NMTD, Pedro’s ‘perfect’ emotional and affective world and John’s rejection of positive affect, how they each feel about the other’s emotional responses. It feels like a mutual betrayal; both of them expecting something from the other they don’t yet have the ability to give, even if it would improve their lives and relationship. Therefore, it’s vital that they get a chance to be together in a space where those feelings are made to not matter. John’s determination to join Peter in the bath pushes this further. Joining Peter in this space means collaborating in the creation of a space where they can be together without antagonism or tension or concern or resentment. It’s perfectly summed up by their dialogue as John gets into the bath: “I will fight you” / “No you won’t, you’re my brother.” In this space, there are no cutting ‘half-brother’ comments. There’s only a connection between siblings, the knowledge that Peter won’t fight, but protect John.
By FEATHERS, we get a full-circle bath moment. While Ben suggests filming the vlog in the bath, Peter and Balth no longer need a spatially and socially estranged space to be comfortable together, they can build that world wherever they want. Ben brings it up, but really doesn’t need it either; his suggestion will be rapidly followed by a bunch of people, some of whom he’s only known for a few months, having a pillow fight in his house. Our Pedro Party Ben would take this as an opportunity to get drunk in a bathtub. This Ben not only fully participates but has a really difficult conversation with his girlfriend during it! It’s not that they have adjusted to an emotionally normative society, at least not completely, but they have become less alienated. Their weird, unintuitive, looping emotions don’t have to stay in one place anymore. As Ben and Bea would say, it’s like the universe is just a really big bathroom filled with baths.
