Here is a fun idea. An amazing cheese/becky boxleitner au but it incorporates djsadbean's headcanon where Amazo left Steven before he met Wordgirl, but in this context Amazo leaves before Steven adopts Becky. More angsty if it incorporates you boxleitner's-return au. What do you think?

I'm gonna tangent for a second based on this ask

I've had this idea bugging in the back of my head for a while of a morally grey Steven grieving Adam and then kindof emotionally replacing him with Becky without realizing it, putting a lot of pressure on her that she can't handle and having Steven basically base his own emotional state on her success as a kid superhero.

I think, if i'm gonna be pretentious (of course I am) then that could apply really well here! A lot of kids deal with having to be their parent's therapist, and Becky in with her gigantic savior complex could easily get that in the dadbrains au from having a grieving father/mentor try and train her to be like an adult superhero who is now long gone.

If both of these things are part of my BR au then it would absolutely fuck with Becky to see the guy who she was repeatedly told to be like before DTB became evil, BE evil. She would probably feel way more betrayed by both of them then in any of the other scenarios, and DTB over time would realize what he put on her

Ten things I wish would just DIE already…

10. Miraculous Ladybug

Before you sharpen your pitchforks! Hear me out! I actually REALLY like this show…but GOD It is the BIGGEST tease I have EVER seen! Marinette and Adrien should have gotten together at the end of the first season, and maybe we could have explored their relationship, given them more depth? Raised the stakes instead of the CONANT. ENDLESS. FILLER. Of absolute nothing that is this show. We all know they’re going to get together, just rip the bandaid and let us move on. I’ve never seen a show jerk its fan base around so much!

9. Avatar the Last Air Bender

Again, I LOVE THIS SHOW, SO, SO MUCH! But I can tell that they’re now turning this into a cash cow. I don’t want to see another avatar show, especially after what they did with Legend of Korra. What made Avatar so special was that, yes there was a lot going on in their world, but it never stopped focusing on the core cast, their development, their relationships, and their reactions to the world they live in. Korra just gave us more and more characters instead of focusing on the ones we had, and it lost me with its overcomplicated plot, and I fear legend of Genji, AND the live action remake (which already has alarm bells going up because it’s live action and when has worked out well?) Can we just…revive an old gem on Nickelodeon? Or make something new and substantial instead of relying on SpongeBob reruns?

8. Dragon Ball

Yes, another show I like! But MAN! How many power-ups can we go through before it gets old! Even ASH finally reached his goal in pokemon! There’s so much content here, and I’m grateful for that! I don’t mind more games and merchandise, but enough of the show! It’s clear that only Goku and Vegeta are the only characters capable of beating the big enemy, and no one cares much for the younger characters taking over. But at this point their not that interesting. ESPECIALLY Goku. He’s just a guy that likes fighting. Vegeta was more interesting with his reformed villain arc, but he is constantly overshadowed by his dumber super-saiyen. It feels like they’ve exhausted all their stories….

7. Velma

I’m gonna barf. Seriously, all people do is complain about this show. Can we just, STOP? Review bombing it, complaining about it, making reaction videos to it, is just…feeding it at this point. If all of us hate so much! So many shows that deserved to be watched and enjoyed were completely ignored and faded away from the public consciousness, but not this one, at least, not yet. I see video and video about it! Ignore it. Let it die like it’s supposed to! And now I will never mention it again, and neither should you!

6. Marvel

It’s not so much as I want this franchise to die…more like…I think we need a break! It’s been like 20 years of non stop Marvel and I feel like we already peaked with the Avengers Endgame. Besides Moon Knight and Wakanda Forever, all I’ve seen is general dislike of all the new stuff coming out. I know that Disney is a big conglomerate and they’re going to milk this thing for all it’s worth…but wouldn’t people enjoy it more if you let it simmer for a bit, let the ideas come back after some rest, and then get back into it?

5. 13 Reasons Why

This show should have stayed a book! Oh. My. God. As someone that struggles with mental illness, watching this get sensationalized and reduced to nothing more then teenage angst for badly written teenage characters is so gross! I don’t have much to say about it. It just makes me so angry! How do people actually like this and continue to watch and recommend it? It’s basically the same as every other “dramatic” teen show out there, but uses suicide as a hook to draw people in, which is so disrespectful! You want a show that is more mature then this and actually handles mental illness well? Watch BoJack Horseman.

4. Grey’s Anatomy

I don’t care about the relationships in this show. I don’t who broke up with who, who died, who couldn’t have a kid, who cheated on who. I cared more, in the first season at least, when they were just young surgeons, and they were dealing with the struggles of that. BUT MAN! This show quickly became a soap opera! I mean what did I expect from an ABC show. Just end it already! If you want a good show about doctor’s that focuses on their personal growth and the difficulties of the job watch House, or better yet, watch Scrubs.

3. Kingdom Hearts

This hurts. This hurts. So. Much. GOD! I love these games…but I REALLY hate the direction they’re going. KH3 was such a red flag! The story was complicated enough with time travel, the whole foretellers things, how we keep adding characters instead of focusing on the core Destiny Islands Trio, how Kairi is basically a plot device where, EVEN IN HER OWN GAME, she has to be rescued by Sora. And now, KH4 is on its way and Nomura is basically turning it into versus 13….I don’t even know anymore. Things were getting real dumb in Dream Drop Distance. I’m just going to pretend thee series ended at KH2, where the emotions were there and the story wasn’t derailed and removed of all the charm it had…Either end it…or do something actually good with it, because at this point, it’s just getting ridiculous. And this is coming from someone that loves this series with every fiber of their being.

2. Stranger Things

Yeah, Netflix will cancel actually interesting things like Inside Job, Dead End National Park, I’m not okay with this, Sense 8, and introduce stupid ideas such as removing password sharing (EVEN AFTER RAISING THE PRICE BECAUSE PEOPLE WERE PASSWORD SHARING) but they will keep things like Cuties and…this show. At this point, Stranger Things is a shadow of its former self. Not only are there no stakes, because everyone has plot armor, but it’s basically just teenage drama at this point. Remember how in Season 1, the demagorgan was actually scary? Remember how going into the upside down had health consequences? The characters just walk around now without a problem. But this show is just drama filled enough to keep the attention of the masses without actually having any substance. It makes me sad that it followed the pattern of the first season being the most interesting season and then everything going down hill from there. How did THIS show, of all shows…make me not care? What could be worse then this?

#1. Harry Potter Series

I loved this as a kid. I read this thing so many times…but now…I’m past it, and JK is just. A. Terrible. Terrible. Person…the fact that it doesn’t end with her words, that she actively gives money and supports hate groups, kind ruins the messages I learned in HP. As a kid, I thought part of the point was to be inclusive, and to make life better for people that are mistreated by the mainstream. But no. Not only were the last few movies terrible, but Rowling keeps digging that hole. Even if I wanted to, I just can’t enjoy it anymore. So, even if not everyone will. I’m going to let it die. We need another book series to inspire a generation…I just can’t with this anymore…

How many times have you been to a Disney theme park?  I have never been to any Disney attraction – Disneyland, Disney World, the resorts...and tbh not really interested in ever going. It just looks so crowded no matter what time of the year you go, and I bet everything is really expensive. I didn't grow up much a Disney kid anyway so I don't think I'd be missing out on anything.

Are there any live plants in the room with you?  There aren't. Can't take care of plants to save my life.

Did you grow up with your cousins, first or otherwise?  I grew up with one set of cousins, the ones from my mom's older brother's side. To this day they're the cousins that my siblings and I are closest with, to the point that we call the elder brother simply 'Kuya' (just how you'd call a blood older brother) because of how close we are.

Who is your favorite That 70′s Show character, if you have one?  I never got into That 70s Show. Tried watching the first episode but I struggled with finding the humor.

What color is your hair?  It's a light brown again now, with the black roots growing out. I'll dye it back to purple but I'll do that once I get my 13th month so I can allocate some extra monies for it.

What was the last movie you watched?  Breaking Dawn Part 2 since I marathoned the whole Twilight Saga a couple of weekends ago.

it's evident people haven't watched enough kids media to adequately understand just what constitutes a kids show as opposed to a show that kids can watch and be entertained by

when I was a kid I watched king of the hill and blues clues (among other things). king of the hill is NOT a kids show by any stretch of the imagination; it is an adult animation, replete with fairly heavy subject matter, sexual themes, political humor, cultural references that kids won't understand, discussion of religion in the modern day, depression and suicidal thoughts, adultery, puberty and sexual awakenings, body image, propane, propane accessories, and ultimately above all else what it means to be family. and blues clues is a show about a man who plays with a shovel & pail, talks to his condiments and mailbox, and sometimes he teleports into the felt dimension, all while playing Sherlock Holmes hercule poirot with his dog, and teaching kids how to count and draw and recognize colors and learn their ABCs. do you see the fucking difference? no? then I'll make it more clear.

dora the explorer & go diego go, mickey mouse clubhouse, handy manny, octonauts, bob the builder, super why, wild kratts, zoboomafoo, jojo's circus, wow wow wubbzy, stanley, doc mcstuffins, max & ruby, wonder pets, bubble guppies, ni hao khai lan, backyardigans, little einsteins, caillou (ugh) and p*w p*trol (double ugh), these are all undeniably kids shows. their audience is children (and the occasional adult by age with severe intellectual disabilities) and maybe the parents whose brains are too fried to care what's on the tv. these shows main purpose is to educate while entertaining on subjects one would encounter in preschool and kindergarten. counting 1-10, ABCs, basic color, basic language, basic intrapersonal skills, basic emotional literacy, problem solving, using your imagination, what sounds do animals make, breaking the fourth wall to ask the audience to answer what's 2+2 or tell them a lesson they learned today like I LEARNED TO NEVER JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER or some simple message like that. it's always light, there's no edgelord grimdark "what if they were dead the whole time" bullshit. it's just good clean simple wholesome [except for paw patrol] programs for kids to be distracted for a little bit of time, while also letting them walk away having said they learned something. at least half of the time dedicated to every single one of these shows is devoted to the same shit over and over again. After ages of thinking, i decided i want to nerd about Bojack horseman.

You don't need to read all of this essay, just the chance to actually PUT these thoughts somewhere makes me happy <3

CAN WE TALK ABOUT THE CHARACTER ARCS

I am trash at wording so don't be surprised if this is poorly redacted.

(A LOTTA SPOILERS AHEAD)

Bojack is by far the most relatable character in the show, for me at least. It's funny how this series teached me how to make relatability via struggles. I've never seen such an accurate representation of depression, and some episodes hit real close to home- for example, the "Stupid piece of sh-t" monologue at the beginning of the episode of the same name. They don't dramatize it, like OTHER SHOWS DO- (Yes 13ReasonsWhy I'm looking at you), and paint an accurate picture of how this illness holds Bojack back from being the better person he wants to be. His relationship with his mom was... Interesting to say the least.

The old Sugarman Place episode was haunting. Showing how the abuse from Beatrice's father shaped her into the person she ended up being. And how the cycle of abuse painfully repeats for generations. Her brother's death, her having to deal with his mother's grief and depression alone since her asshole dad didn't do sh-t to help the family move on after Crackerjack's death, and her mother's eventual and tragic lobotomy.

Just,,, Jesus this show.

Another thing I love about it, is how it made me understand that it was okay to emphasize with Beatrice, but one needed to understand that it didn't justify all the horrible abuse SHE put on Bojack, forever hammering in his head the "Don't stop dancing" motto.

Now, back to Bojack cuz BOY this is going to be a long essay.

The moment i knew this show was special was in season 2's "Escape from LA" another 'fuck-your-mind-up-and-move-on' episode. The things Bojack did were so terrible that- I mean i couldn't believe it. I was thinking all along "Nah, he wouldn't do it, he's the protagonist, he can't be THAT bad-"

AND THEM BOOM.

The mf almost sleeps with a 17-year-old and the show slaps you in the face with the realization that THIS ACTUALLY HAPPENED-

Something that makes me laugh are the consequences, not because they're stupid or anything like that. But were painfully accurate.

I think my mind was as anxious as Bojack's. Once the ACTUAL truth about his involvement in Sarah Lynn's death, and the cycles of abuse of power in his relationships came to the public eye, came what I expected: people actively shutting him out, insulting him, giving him those horrid judging looks,,, urgh- i felt that. (That second interview that revealed everything could have gone better, but it also could have gone worse. They didn't even explore the Escape from LA incident, or Gina's strangling in Bojack's opioid lash out.)

But yeah, once after the events of The view from halfway down (THAT I'M NOT EVEN GOING TO COVER CUZ OH GOD I WON'T FINISH) things start,,, looking up? Sure, Bojack gets arrested for trespassing (even though he affirms that he thinks it was for a but if everything) and he spends a good time there with the other inmates, they participate in plays, and even Bojack himself admits that he would go as a volunteer once he was out of jail.

I thought the consequences were going to be WAY worse, but when you look back at it you go: "Huh, well that wasn't that bad-"

Now, the final episode.

I LOVE the relationship between BJ and Mr. Peanut butter. The lad finally decides to dedicate time to himself and to not to worry about his marriages. You just gotta love this dog.

Then, Princess Caroline.

I LOVE HER OK?

Her entire character arc about being a mother and finally letting go of his codependency on Bojack was magical.

Seeing the roots of her impulsive "i have to take care of everything" attitude through the 6 seasons allowed me to see her grow, change. Seeing her triumph and fail (very painfully sometimes, man).

In the final scene with her it's so wonderful to see Bojack cheering on her, and Princess Caroline openly admitting she won't work with him anymore. And both just, dancing peacefully to the vals, accepting that their relationship is over with such big smiles... *Sobs*

God. This. SHOW.

And now, good boy Todd.

I kind of relate to him too, and it gives me hope to see him being so independent after everything.

After Bojack ruined his Rock Opera so he wouldn't leave, after he also rescued him from that Improv cult, after all of the good, and ALSO the bad. He leaves.

He goes to make his new life, with his girlfriend, in a new apartment, and now in a good relationship with his mom. It's so wholesome I love Todd sm-

And even after actively pushing back from Bojack, he's still there to support him and cheer him up, even backing off so he doesn't get pulled into that again.

His words in his final scene always stuck with me "It was nice while it lasted right?"

Perfect.

And now,,,, Diane.

Holy cow where do I even start.

I do agree with most fans about how she wasn't "as good" in the first season, and how that changed in season 6, where we see her in a more domestic environment.

Now, I always loved Diane. I emphasized a lot with her struggles of being a writer (those episodes made ma laugh), not appreciating the little things we have, and wanting to do great things but- not- quite reaching it.

I always found interesting how she never let go of Bojack until it was "too late"

They always brought up the worse in each other, two people with the same unhealthy coping mechanisms isn't exactly a good combination.

I teared up when she moved out with Guy and actually learned to trust the feeling of safety, after a whole life of being used to abuse, that was everything that made sense to her. But it didn't have to stay like that. It was hard for her to start taking her antidepressants again but she did and she got better! (Shame Bojack pushed her into breaking point-)

The last scene, of her, of Bojack, of the entire series, I always rewatch "Nice while it lasted" for this scene only.

She confronts him on how he called her before he almost drowned in a pool. She thought he was dead, she thought it was her fault for not saving him. But as Bojack said "It was never her job". But he always made her feel like it was.

Oof... You can't actually fix that, can you?

Diane's "You can be grateful for the people around you, even if they weren't meant to be in your life forever" hit me like a truck. It actually helped me to learn to cut ties, that it was okay to be grateful, to not forgive horrible things, to move on and wish the other person the very best.

And then they sit, staring at the night sky, Catherine Feeny's Mr. Blue starts playing.

And I am bawling my eyes out.

That moment of silence, when there's nothing to say, when you both understand that this is it, and there's nothing else to do than to admire the night.

God. THIS. SHOWWWW,,,,

1. Kim Wexler - Better Call Saul. She means the world to me. Everything about her is perfect and Rhea Seahorn’s performance deserves literally so many awards but the garbage emmys won’t even nominate her. She is strong and mean and flawed and a superhero and an insanely stubborn and loyal woman.

2. Mickey Milkovich - Shameless. Oh man this character, they accidentally wrote the best god damn gay character that’s ever been on tv. Once again Noel Fisher’s performance is what made this character who he is. That and the fan’s love for Mickey.

3. Beatrice Horseman - Bojack Horseman. She is a fucking horrible person, a terrible mother, and bunch more bad things but holy shit that back story. The way we continuously inherit the traumas of our parents, the way women were never given a chance literally since the day we’re born. I can’t go into it but this show does an incredible job of writing an incredibly complex female character.

4. Serena Joy - The Handmaid’s Tale. Okay let’s pretend that show only has one season but god damn. Serena Joy is literally the most vile human being and I love her so much. I love when writers get evil women just being evil and awful for no reason other than being evil. That’s her entire motive, she is pure evil. I love that shit

5. Skylar White - Breaking Bad. Clearly I love the way Vince Gilligan (a man..) writes women but damn I’m obsessed with it. She’s nuanced, layered, flawed. She feels so real it’s insane. She is truly human and she was hated for it by the brba fans. Incredible character.

6.Poussey Washington - Orange is the New Black. Hate this show, love Poussey. She was incredible. I am almost never a fan of sunshine-y and cheerful characters but she truly stole my heart. She was so full of love and she just had a really big and beautiful heart. She is an inspiration

7. Sandra Kaluiokalani - Superstore. I fucking love Sandra. She is crazy and secretly evil and I am obsessed with her. I have never loved a sitcom character like this but she floors me every time she has a scene. So fucking funny in the most subtle way ever. Superstore needs a warehouse spinoff so I can get more Sandra pls.

8. Tara Gregson - United States of Tara. Let me start by saying that this show is a terrible disservice to those who live with DID and should not be counted on for accurate representation. I went into it not knowing any of this and of course, Toni Collette delivered the most incredible performance as Tara and I just loved her so much for everything and every part of her.

9. Castiel - Supernatural. As much as I hate to say this, I truly loved this character and when I rewatched the show I was like oh it’s okay I won’t love him like that anymore so I’m sure I can handle watching the show again but god dammit I did. I loved him again and I love him now. He just makes me want to protect him and he has so many fucking layers I really can’t explain it but once again they accidentally wrote one of the best gay characters on tv so of course I fell in love 🥺

10. Rose Tyler - Doctor Who. I cannot believe I almost forgot her but I love her sooo much. She was literally the first female character that kinda finally broke me out of my internalized misogyny but wow she was amazing. She was another character that was like generally a good person but in a real way. She wasn’t perfect and that’s what made her the perfect character.

Oh man Mr. Peanutbutter had a moment… he finally got that crossover episode… I was kinda hoping for a joke that went “Mr. Peanutbutter and BoJack Horseman in the same room? What is this, Philbert?” or “What is this, a short-lived show on a streaming network that got canceled because the star got addicted to painkillers and strangled his costar in a drugged haze?” but this is SO MUCH BETTER. I've never seen him cry before and the way he reacts to himself crying suggests that maybe he’s never cried before at all, and that’s why he just keeps laughing, almost like it’s forced, cause this is supposed to be his happiest moment and it’s not supposed to make him so sad. fucking,, character development

and the cold open of ep 8… you can forgive yourself and move on from your past wrongs but it doesn’t erase the things you did, the effects they have on people, and the trauma they’ve suffered. and then like, how can you forgive yourself if they never forgive you? how do you maintain that balance? why should you move forward if they can’t?

her quote about not wanting to be defined by what bojack did to her has always stuck with me, and i feel like now, that quote has sort of come true. like, her saying that made us avoid reducing her to what happened to her, and thats why i wanted to see her come back this season, hopefully moving past it. but she can’t. it traumatized her. and everyone can see the effects of it but she feels like she can’t come forward, cause if she does she’ll be punished. shit like that changes you.

and it’s another instance on the show where someone chooses to advance their career & preserve their reputation over doing the right thing (like what bojack does with herb & sharona), but bojack does it out of self-interest, and gina does it so she doesn’t have to relive her trauma every time she gets interviewed or recognized by a fan. but even when she keeps quiet about it she’s still reliving her trauma

the thing about this show is, it illustrates what it’s like to be a toxic person. and sure, he has it hard, but the show never asserts that he has it any worse than his victims, even if bojack himself does so. and he only does it so he can feel better about himself. he deserves a reckoning, he needs to pay for his bad deeds. but then, when you know what made him this way and what goes on inside his mind and that he wants to get better, it makes you feel for him, and forces you to ask if he deserves to get better and forgive himself and move forward. but even if he does, it doesn’t change the things he did. it doesn’t fix the lives he’s ruined.

I HATE Steven Universe with its stupid morals, rushed developments and episode pacing choices from season 5 and forward while I loved the previous seasons and that made me sad especially with me not knowing if Rebecca Sugar is a holier than thou hypocrite or an actual dumbass when it comes to her view in bullies and that "nOboDY is BorN eVIl aNd eVERyoNe caN reFOrm wItH LOVe" she keeps saying on her social media accounts

And now I HATE the end of the Dark Crystal prequel Mayrin comic for being a WHOOOOOLE retcon ruining the hopes of making a bitch sympathetic and actually making her a total irreedeemable bitch when raking account of the show while these retcon comics ignore the show just for the sake of cute OC X Canon ships from the writers (AND LET'S NOT TALK OF SKEKSA'S CHARACTER AND THE CLANS' RELATIO SHIPS)

Doc I know most of your followers don't care about Bojack Horseman and you yourself probably don't care for this ship, but what do you would have happened if Bojack had seriously asked Princess Caroline to run away with him at her wedding instead of couching it as a joke?

I definitely am NOT on this ship train, though I find their relationship amazing and so real and well written and OH MY GOD I know I don’t really have any fellow fans but I want to watch Bojack Horseman all over again, for my money the BEST animated show made in the last decade, holy shit. 

Okay, so on this ask PARTICULARLY, I hope, for Princess Caroline, and I think, that if Bojack had asked her seriously she would have said no. I think that, at that point, she had finally figured it out, that what she wanted wasn’t someone like Bojack even though there was a part of her that craved the attention of fucked up narcissists going back forever in her life. That she could want and do better for herself. That Judah is reliable and precise and WONDERFUL BECAUSE of those things. “Boring” people get such a bad rap but please fucking trust me: Marry Judah. Marry Albert (Legends of the Fall). Marry Fareeha. Don’t marry Bojack and Tristan and Yael. 

And I think PC is finally there. I think she has finally, in a strange way, grown up enough to stop being everyone’s mommy, so she can be Ruthie’s mommy. and IN being that, she can want things for herself, too, and think she deserves them,,.

For me it was Todd, from Bojack Horseman. He actually helped me come out to my brother, who is the only person in my family to know that I'm ace. We're both fans of the show, and when I told him I wasn't really interested in relationships he said "Oh, so are you maybe ace, like Todd?" It was so nice to finally come out and not have to explain what asexuality is! It also made Todd's character really special to me.

I have not watched Sex Education. I heard it's really good and it has an ace character (I think I've seen clips of that) but I think the fact that it's called Sex Education has always kind of put me off watching it, for some reason. I'm not really sex repulsed I think, probably more indifferent, but for some reason I can't get myself to start watching it.

The ace Judd headcanon is really interesting, I hadn't heard that before (but then again I've only been in the fandom for a couple of weeks). I remember that one scene with Grace and Judd from season one where they hadn't been intimate since the accident with the old 126, and Grace said something like I have needs too, whether you like it or not. I know that's not the exact quote, but it was something in that direction. It made me really uncomfortable, and it's one of the few scenes that I really didn't like watching.

As for more positive rep, lately I've been really getting into queer literature and I recently read Loveless by Alice Oseman. It's about a girl and her asexual and aromantic awakening. The author is aro-ace as well. To me, it was very relatable and the main character had a lot of the same thoughts and feelings that I had when I first realised I'm ace - and later aro too - and that I sometimes still struggle with. I read the entire book in a day, and I'm definitely going to recommend it to all my friends if they want to understand my experience with asexuality and aromanticism better.

Unfortunately that's pretty much all the positive ace representation I know of. I know that there are some characters where it's implied that they're ace, but it's so hard to find good ace representation where it's really made clear that the character is ace. I've read interviews from shows and films where the director or showrunner is like "oh yeah in my mind this character is ace" or "i interpreted this character as ace" and that's really nice but at some point it just isn't good enough anymore. One of the hardest parts of being aro and ace to me is that I always have to explain to people what it means, and that's never going to get easier is there isn't any good, positive representation.

oh wow! this is so interesting - don’t apologise at all, thank you for sharing all this. im so glad Todd gave you a comfortable path to coming out to your brother - as you said - “One of the hardest parts of being aro and ace to me is that I always have to explain to people what it means," - and when there are good examples in media that people become familiar with, that becomes so much easier. and yeah - its so frustrating when it’s ‘confirmed’ outside of the actual media, because realistically, the only people who will notice that are the ace and aro people who want to see that rep, not everyone else who we need to see it to help normalise it.

I can totally understand the cautiousness with Sex Education - I guess I fall more into the sex indifferent side of asexuality so it wasnt too much of a big deal for me, and also ive become rather accustomed to mentally tuning out sexy stuff on tv and in films sjfdlkjf.

as for ace judd - my personal headcanon for him is that he’s a sex positive/indifferent asexual. obviously this is just headcanon/fan thoughts, but for me it makes me happy to think that he would be ace. I kinda agree with you on the scene that you mentioned with the discomfort, personally I can’t really understand the concept of ‘needing’ sex in that way - but then again thats because im ace and not allosexual - different sexualities, different perspectives. I think that I can work my theories around those scenes and have it make sense to me, but I totally get it if people disagree!

I will have to look into Loveless - I confess that I don’t know so much about Aromanticism beyond the basics so I will see where I can get hold of it. (I consider myself biromantic/panromantic - I honestly don’t know how to label myself romantically which is why I often default to queer).  it’s so cool that its written by an aro/ace author too!

and btw, welcome to the fandom! its been a really positive place for me so I hope it will also be for you. it feels to me like there are a lot of ace people about too, which I find really reassuring and comforting. thank you for sharing this, and know that you’re always welcome to pop by with any thoughts!

 The question is brought up at Sunday brunch. 

Caroline isn’t as appalled about the Question as much as she is the fact that she has turned into the sort of person who looks forward to Sunday brunch.

Damon sort of snorts, “Blondie, you have always been—“

The table shudders, and suddenly Damon’s wincing, face purple, as Klaus smiles placidly beside him. “Imagine that, sweetheart.”

“Cream puffs! And the Belgian waffles, have you tried the Belgian waffles?” Caroline asks, manically replenishing everyone’s faces.

“I would love some more,” Stefan says after a beat. His plate already has four on them. Klaus finishes off his own plate and only smiles when Caroline flicks another one into it.

Enzo clears his throat. He doesn’t know why he’s been invited, and shifts in his seat. He doesn’t even know why he’d come, but Caroline hadn’t responded to any of his emails, angry knocks, or even letters he’d had to disguise as fanmail to get her to read. All he knows is that he’d finally ran into her in the hall, and she’d all but shoved him inside.

“Right,” Enzo says, eyeing everyone at the table. “So my question remains: will the lease for your apartment be kept under your name, or will it be transferred to— ”

“Has anyone tried the Orange Blossom honey?” Caroline upends half the jar onto Kol’s stack.

 “—Will it be transferred to—,” Enzo tries again—

 There’s a ding of the oven.

 “The pie’s ready!”

 “There’s pie?” Kol enthuses, his mouth full. “What filling?”

 “Of course, Caroline is ever the hostess,” Klaus says adoringly.

 “Apple and raspberry—”

 “—please, Gorgeous, the paperwork on this took me half the night—” Enzo pleads.

 “—I’ve tasted the custard cream that goes with the pie this morning, and it was absolutely divine—”

 “Gag!” Rebekah yells from across the balcony, because of course Klaus would make his adoration of Caroline vocal, and loud at that.

 “Don’t be rude!” Klaus volleys back.

 This is Damon’s time—he’s heard the not-so-rumours that Klaus can get Camille to put anything he wants in the script, and he so desperately wants to die this season, but maybe in a car crash, or something. Off screen, so he doesn’t have to show up to work, thanks. His only in is probably with Klaus, and he’d shared this secret with Stefan, who got so offended that Damon had managed to scheme over his head that he’d taken Stefan and stayed away the entire weekend.

 And so Damon yells, vehemently: “Shut your mouth, rude-ass bitch!”

 Everyone stops their attempt at overlapping conversations and stares.

 Damon sighs and backtracks. “All right, I may have gotten too method.”

 Klaus narrows his eyes, all sweet pretence gone, ready to go to war for his sister. “Method for what?”

 “I want to die,” Damon points out.

 “That can be arranged,” Klaus says, whipping out his phone.

 “On our show!” Damon cries exasperatedly. “I don’t think I have to point this out every time, Klaus. We know what your tattoo means.”

 “Oh,” Klaus says, a bit put out. “Then that’s a bit more complicated, mate.”

 “What does Klaus’ tattoo mean?” Enzo asks, finally distracted from technical lease talk, and Caroline takes her cue to scurry out of the room and into the kitchen.

 She barely hears Kol snickering about how, before Klaus decided to become an actor, he’d made his living as the king of the underbelly of the neighbouring city.

 “Right,” Enzo nods. “So I’ll put the lease down in your name, then?”

 “Let me check with Caroline,” Klaus replies, the peaceful smile sliding back onto his face, and turns in his chair. “Sweetheart?”

 There’s no answer, because Caroline’s not in the kitchen anymore.

 .

 .

 Bonnie is a surprise fan favourite, and she gets promoted to series regular.

 Maybe it’s because she’d hired someone to ghost-tweet her fans, and they like the look of her in her usual thigh high boots, voluminous skirts, and riding crop ensemble on the show. Season five had gotten weirdly anachronistic.

 She goes into trailer in her full Regency-era gown and pink Chuck Norris sneakers to find that Caroline has already started on the wine.

 “Well?” she prompts, taking the glass Caroline passes her.

 “I guess we’re moving in together,” Caroline says.

 They clink glasses.

 .

 .

 The first night isn’t… weird. Everyone had helped Klaus move into Caroline’s space (which just meant an armful of Henleys and a stack of books, since he’d left everything else next door. Whilst he was balancing all of that, everyone helps themselves to the cheese platter).

 A round of drinks leads to a round of drunk Monopoly, and unsurprisingly Caroline sweeps the board after she manages to land an unsuspecting strip while everyone else guns for the most expensive squares. That leads to charades, which leads to an argument, which leads to more drinks to placate the tension.

 “I’m drunk,” Elena gasps, because she never is. Everyone else agrees that they, too, are inebriated.

 Caroline brews some of the fancy loose-leaf tea she’d stolen from Klaus’ kitchen cabinets as the night dwindles down.

 When the last guest (Damon, still drunk) leaves with his date (Bonnie, winking), Klaus helps her with the washing up. He presses a kiss to her forehead as he dries the plates and she ducks under his arm to put away the cutlery when he arranges the glasses back onto the rack above the sink.

 “Bed?” he suggests when they finish an episode of Bojack Horseman, finishing the last of the crackers between them.

 “Sure,” she says lightly. It’s just like every other night, then, except there’s something unspoken in the air about the new arrangement.

 Unspoken because Caroline, queen of not talking about things, had all but managed to dodge all of Klaus’ attempts to talk about things.

 He’d resorted to just move himself in until Caroline suddenly feels like he doesn’t want him there – he might’ve left some shoes and his favourite Henley behind. Caroline notices.

 They brush their teeth silently, Caroline bumping his hip when she wants to gargle.

 They practice some lines back and forth, the script illuminated by the twin lamps on her twin bedside tables. Everything in her room came in a set of twins; Caroline likes the symmetry of the notion. Klaus likes to joke that it’s a sign that some day, she’ll probably have twins too. He doesn’t add that he hopes they’ll be his to father.

 Klaus has been living with her, truly living with her, for approximately three weeks now. It’s nice to say “See you at home” instead of “See you later”, even though for a while, later had come to mean home anyway.

 They fall into a habit that doesn’t take time to even form: to-do lists that he helps stick onto her board, packed cheesy lunches from her favourite food truck, and nights of chess on the cramped little balcony.

 Sure, Kol still traipses in through the window whenever he feels like it, and they still gather at Elena’s for dinner, and Stefan still meets them at the balcony for a quick post-dinner smoke, but at night it’s just her and Klaus and their new Queen-sized mattress that Klaus had convinced her to buy, trading in from her old but dutiful King-sized one.

 “I like to be closer to you when we sleep,” he whispers into her hair.

 “We might as well have bought a super-single then,” she laughs.

 “Or a single.”

 “You’d have to sleep practically on top of me.”

 “Nowhere else I’d rather be,” he promises her, and goads her into a kiss.

 It’s a light one, feather soft, because whilst the days of heat and yearning had passed, he’d found that he enjoyed the more intimate moments with her. When she’s in her used kaftan and he’s just in sweats, and he can feel every curve of her against his side.

 Caroline falls asleep with her forehead pressed against his shoulder, and he doesn’t move all night for fear of waking her up.

  .

 .

  And still they don’t talk about it.

 Caroline’s not bothered, per se, but she’d bothered by the fact that Klaus isn’t talking about it. If anything he’s mastered the art of talking himself out of any situation, and talking her into a frenzy.

 He’s all but shut up, like Stefan the Cat’s got his tongue.

 Like he’s happy at playing houses with her.

 Like he’s happy.

 Well – she’s happy too.

 Klaus passes her the maple syrup when she asks, and he smiles to her so sweetly it makes everything at the table taste quite bland.

So this is an unpopular opinion probably, but...

I really despise the theory that a surprising amount of people seem to have that BoJack Horseman is going to end with him literally ending himself (i.e. suicide).

That’s such a crude and damaging way of looking at all the progress he’s made so far, and would make such a disappointing and unfulfilling ending. What would be the point of showing progress only for it to be stripped away from him yet again? Yes, BoJack is a depressing show, but never has that show been utterly hopeless. It is, after all, still a comedy.

What kind of message does that send to fans who see a part of themselves in BoJack and have been holding out for his redemption? That you can’t get any better no matter how hard you try? That the only fitting end for someone who messes up over and over again is that they can never recover and all they deserve is self-destruction?

That’s what BoJack HIMSELF believed for years, and now he’s finally starting to see that there’s a different way to think and to act. That kind of reductive thinking is why he made all those shitty excuses to cover up all the shitty things he’s done in the first place.

It just doesn’t make any sense to me why so many fans have latched onto this theory. Death is not the only logical end a depressed person can take, and saying so is so incredibly condescending to his journey so far. How can you even think that when the show has been so blatant with its message of recovery and healing, especially with this last season? It’s reducing the show to “oh, depressed horse show should also have a depressing ending, so...he’s gonna kill himself because that’s the most depressing note the show could end on.”

What the hell kind of take is that? A really bad one, in my opinion. The writers are so much better at handling their characters than that.

This isn’t to say that just because he’s on the road to recovery, he won’t have a few bumps along the way or that he’s completely infallible.

Does BoJack deserve to pay the consequences for everything he’s done to people? Yes, absolutely. Just because people like him doesn’t mean he can avoid the terrible things he’s done forever. In the eyes of people he’s hurt, that’s all he is. That one awful thing he did is all they can remember about him despite the few good things that might have come before it.

Both Penny and Gina are rightfully traumatized by his actions, and others (like Kelsey) are still dealing with the repercussions of his mistakes. In fact, I don’t believe any of the main cast (outside of Mr. Peanutbutter, whose still oblivious) has actually forgiven him for any of the really bad shit he’s done.

Todd even mentions in a casual conversation that BoJack’s house does remind him how much of an asshole he was to him all that time he stayed there. None of the main cast has necessarily forgiven him, but they are making amends in their own ways. They still want to be friends with him. They know that BoJack is more than his worst moments, but he is not absolved of them completely.

Too warm. I have been warmer than most people my whole life, and I often need to sleep with a fan on.

Bounty. My favourite candy is Reese’s Pieces but I like a bounty. Or like, and chocolate without fruit in it tbh.

Yes, one of my parents referees Championship Football here in the UK. I have been to a few of his games. I also went to the London 2012 Paralympic closing ceremony, if that counts.

What is the last thing you said out loud?

‘Oh, this will last me a few days’ I was talking to my mother about 1/2 a can of pringles, I was lying.

What is your favourite ice cream?

Vanilla. I am boring. But the best ice cream i’ve had was a cream/milk flavoured gelato in Florence, that shit slapped. I also like cheap strawberry ice cream when no one is trying to put strawberry bits in it.

What was the last thing you had to drink?

Dinner. A spinach, banana, summer fruits and coconut yoghurt smoothie (with extra raspberries). Its my nightly dinner to cheat more veg into my body.

Very much. It’s about 7-8 years old, it is faded to hell but it has spiderman and a pony ride stony pin

Yes, I was a Scout. I have done enough camping to not want to do more, it was fun when I wasn't organising it.

Chinese food, It was easily what taught me to like more foods also, I don't eat tomato so I can't have most pizza. I love a good garlic base/bechamel, but you can't really get that here easily (yes yes I could make my own but that ruins half the point of pizza)

I don't drink carbonated drinks, because its like drinking pain. The fuck is wrong with all of you.

Various colours, but I consider red on the left, blue on the right, my lucky socks. No I don't know why, but I take all exams and interviews wearing them. It’s just a thing.

Do you ever drive above the speed limit?

I don't drive, but if I did, No. Theres a lot of questionable laws out there but Traffic laws aren't one of them.

9-10 is what I'm working on, but I fluctuate depending on if I'm working on something or not.

5-6 If I have a choice in the matter, but often 7-8 if I didn't get to bed at the right time. I’m more about getting the right hours in for my diet than time specifically.

What do you prefer, sunrise or sunsets?

Sunset is the prettiest, but I like to be awake to see the sun rise.

How many blankets on your bed?

One big thick comforter, because that's the uk standard, and I get too hot otherwise.

Two types, big wide white ones with a navy blue rim. They are so large I never use them, and little Navy saucer plates I use a lot.

I don't drink, so no. I drink apple juice or Shirley temples when I'm in pubs/bars

Sometimes, I like to teach people to play Old Maid. It’s the monopoly of card games.

Again, I do not drive.

I am aware I just said I don't have a car, but I do know how to change a tire. Everyone should go learn its pretty simple.

Favourite job you’ve ever had?

I have only had one job really and two job experience jobs. I did experience in a school library for a week and that was v fun and chill. I did all the jobs they had prepared for me in 2 days so I alphabetically reorganised their fiction section for the rest of the week. I LIKE ORDERING.

How did you get your biggest scar?

I no longer have a gallbladder, so I have 3 scars across my torso from that, the biggest right in the middle of my ribs. Non surgical wise I have matching scars on my knees from ripping holes in them when tripping. I have weak ankles and also I got both of those at different times.

What did you do today that made someone else happy?

I gave my spare animal crossing Iguanodon skull to a wicked artist I follow on twitter so he could complete his dino park.

Who is your favorite character in 2?

Wow I’ve never really stopped to consider this one that hard before.  My gut reaction is to say Todd because he is simply wonderful.  But Diane is definitely up there too, she’s a character that I really connected to in ways I didn’t expect.  Princess Carolyn is in the running too, her series-long character arc was one of the most heartbreaking and heartwarming.  I’m not sure I can pick one fave, I just love the development of these three.

Who is your least favorite character in 1? 

Uh geez I’m not sure I really have a LEAST favorite, I can’t think of anyone that I particularly dislike.  I mean sure there are characters that I dislike because they’re jerks, like Filbrick or Preston or (duh) Bill, but in terms of like disliking them as a character?  I’m probably gonna say Priscilla Northwest, she’s as much of a rich jerk as her husband but is a lot less entertaining.  Or maybe Gabe Bensen, he’s the least amusing of Mabel’s various love interests to me.

What is your favorite episode of 4? 

A House Divided.  Just ... no contest, it’s A House Divided.  Haven’t seen much else that just stops my dang heart like the ending of that episode.  It just HURTS OKAY.  In all the best ways.  Jimhunters and Unbecoming are very close seconds.

What is your favorite season of 5? 

Overall I think it’s gotta be Season 3.  There’s a lot that I love in Season 2 especially, but on the whole Season 3 just has so much going for it.  There’s some fantastic character development and new moral issues explored within the Fire Nation itself.  There’s the invasion, Zuko joining the Gaang and having various life-changing adventures, the Boiling Rock, the freaking Ember Island Players, and of course one of the absolute best series finales in television. So yeah, it’s gotta be Season 3.

Who is your favorite couple in 3? 

Tbh I don’t really have that many ships for MHA (probably in the minority on that one).  There’s really only two couples I’m particularly into, and that’s Mirio/Amajiki and Yaoyorozu/Jiro.  Mirio is just so supportive of Amajiki and they’re just cute and GAH they’re fantastic.  And Yaoyorozu and Jiro, I think it was the first movie that got me attached to them, they’re just super cute too.  They’re both just pure adorable pairs, I love them.

What is your favorite episode of 1? 

Once again, no contest, because Not What He Seems is just, like, my favorite episode of literally anything ever.  It’s just SO GOOD.  The culmination of so much story and theory, the animation, the music, the tension of the climax, the ending reveal.  It’s just.  The best.  Gosh.  Weirdmageddon 3 is definitely close, the best finale in animation imo, but just absolutely nothing beats Not What He Seems.

What is your favorite episode of 5? 

Okay now this one is actually tough.  I’m probably gonna say Zuko Alone, it’s just brimming with heartwarming and heartbreaking material, between Zuko’s childhood flashbacks and his touching - and tragic - present story.  The Tales of Ba Sing Se is the other top candidate, of course it has the tearjerker Iroh story that is probably my favorite thing in the whole series, but I also love, well, the whole thing.  The Katara/Toph and Zuko stories are so sweet and pure, the Sokka story is hilarious, and the Momo story is also dang sad.  The Blind Bandit, Sokka’s Master, and The Southern Raiders are also personal favorites.

what is your favorite season of 2? 

I am surprised I have a definitive answer for this because the whole series is so transcendentally great, but I do in fact have an answer, and it is Season 4.  It’s my favorite story arc of the series, with BoJack for once not having a special project to center his life on, still reeling from what happened to Sarah Lynn, and having Hollyhock and Beatrice rather suddenly entering his daily life.  It’s about the closest we ever see to BoJack having some semblance of a family life.  The whole storyline of Hollyhock and Beatrice is just fantastic, and it’s the start of the real meat of Todd and Princess Carolyn’s character arcs too - and ends with the setup for Diane and Mr. Peanutbutter finally breaking their destructive cycle.  Plus it’s got my two favorite episodes of the entire series - The Old Sugarman Place and Stupid Piece of Sh*t.  Also Time’s Arrow is definitely top 10, maybe even top 5.  Also also love Hooray! Todd Episode!  And Thoughts and Prayers.  And Ruthie.  Yeah seriously no contest it is my favorite season.

How long have you watched 1? 

I started watching Gravity Falls really near the beginning.  The first episode I watched was The Inconveniencing, the fifth episode overall, and after that I was immediately intrigued and went back and watched the first four.  After that, I watched the whole series as it went.

How did you become interested in 3? 

I don’t tend to watch a lot of anime, and my experience with shounen before MHA was touch-and-go.  Like I’m a big fan of Fairy Tail and to a lesser extent Dragon Ball but I’m still heavily critical of both and would have a hard time recommending them without a heavy disclaimer.  So it was something I’d considered before but never really took the plunge into watching until, funnily enough, my anime-adverse girlfriend decided to check it out.  She’s significantly less anime-invested than me (well, she used to be at least) but lo and behold, we both wound up obsessed with it.  Color me surprised that this series wasn’t being overhyped and didn’t come with the glaring flaws of every other shounen I’ve watched.  So now this is definitely my big interest of the moment, and I am grateful to have it.

Who is your favorite actor in 4? 

Anton Yelchin, he just brought so much heart and emotion to Jim.  He’s a big part of the reason that Unbecoming just snaps my heart in two, my gosh.  As for comedic delivery, Kelsey Grammer absolutely kills it as Blinky, not that I’d expect any less from him.  He just has so many lines that completely crack me up and that’s largely because of his delightfully hammy delivery.

Which do you prefer: 1, 2, or 5? 

Oh my gosh they are literally my three favorite pieces of media in existence.  But it’s Gravity Falls.  Like I would just roll over and die without any of these three but it’s not debatable, the absolute #1 in my heart is Gravity Falls.

If you could be anyone from 4, who would it be? 

Probably Toby?  I think I’d be good in the “well-meaning dorky disaster-prone best friend” role.

Would a crossover between 3 and 4 work? 

Theoretically, maybe?  Magical troll warriors team up with superheroes to fight a wizard supervillian.  It could happen.

Pair two characters in 1 who would make an unlikely but strangely okay couple?

Hmm, not sure I have a good answer to this one.  I’ll just say Manly Dan and Tyler.  It’s not exactly an ODD pick because we see them together quite a few times and honestly they always look like a dang couple, but we never really see what their INTERACTION is like, so it’s kinda difficult to judge exactly how that relationship does/would work.  But I think it’s a nice one to think about.

Overall, which show has the best storyline: 3 or 5?

Oof.  Probably gonna have to say AtLA on this one, if only because MHA isn’t exactly that focused on a super-condensed story at this point?  Its progress tends to come through more world-building and character development than major plot beats, though it certainly has that too.  So yeah I’ll say AtLA.

Which has better theme music: 2 or 4? 

Oh absolutely BoJack, it’s one of my favorite theme songs.
