i always thought john, would *strictly* only listen to his lame movie soundtracks. but well, that's kind of duh? i add my own little twist like this, i like to think john is soooome sort of immigrant, its why he likes these lame movies, as a way to relate to american culture and feel more like a suburban kid (can someone nuke this guy), overall when john isnt jamming his soul out to movie soundtracks, i do think he would love cool jazz, or punk ska :B !

ROSE LALONG - ALTERNATIVE ANYTHING

well, this is kind of obvious. rose is very much a "Stick It To The Man!" mentality. i fear i cant see rose as anything but a pastry princess anyhow i think for her music, obviously she would adore the gothic bands like the banshees, but i also like to think she really enjoys experimental music, tunes that feel like the whispers of beings once gone. music that makes you go mad with eldritch understanding. she also strikes me as the kind of person to only listen to bands who have only like three fans.

GAYVE STRIDER - GOD AWFUL UNDERGROUND RAP

i dont wanna spend too much time (lame hipster bs #majoreyeroll) on what dave listens to, hes definitely a brother. i think what he really listens to is soooo wrapped up in his stupid, stoic, ironic cool guy bullshit. that its not even worth it to know, so none of his friends reaaaaaally know what he jams out to. dave would so so so put on smokeghostpurrp and say its the motherfucking shit. or something as rough as this, honestly even as a hip hop fan. dave would listen to that estoteric underground rap thats so gatekeeped the only way to find it, is through like reaching nirvana. (on a more serious note, i think he would like j dilla, atcq and outkast.)

JADE HARLEY - ANTI-FOLK AND THE SICKEST BASS EVER

jade jade!!! the girl ever, i think jade is some sort of islander, i dont have a specific ethnicity in mind, but something like that. onto her music, i think jade would have a "listen to anything, does not mind." kind of attitude, her upbringing wouldn't have let her form any real sort of biases to music, i think. which is why she would have the most diverse taste of the beta kids. overall i think she would enjoy artists like kimya dawson, and that sort of soft music, but well i think she would also listen to more emotional music like field medic. i also think she absolutely adore anything with the funkiest bass like rick james, the rolling stones. honestly anything you can think of, jade would jam the fuck out of!! :D

I've been stitching some cicadas lately. This year is going to be a big one for the screaming bugs!

For those interested in making their own cross stitched cicadas, the patterns are available for sale here and here! (Please note: my software skills mean that I had to freehand the AAAAAs rather than place them in the pattern itself, so those are not included in the patterns. This does mean that you can make these little guys uniquely your own and add any sort of scream that you'd like, though!)

it's been a minute since i last made a bug girl, and i felt it was Time. i picked a beetle mostly because i wanted to see if i could make separately articulated wings & wing covers look nice, and it spiraled from there.

i'm not sure where the porcelain inspiration came from, but i think i've seen ceramic beetles with floral patterns before. the patterns are cut out from napkins, with some additional handpainted details.

i don't usually give my bug girls hair, but i recently thrifted a package of blonde curls and wanted to use them. i suppose having Traditional Doll Hair extends the joke of her being a porcelain doll.
