Tiny dead plate rant

No hate to Manon but the way she left Rody was kinda a dick move

I can see her reasoning for leaving Rody, and she's pretty right about him not being ready for a relationship, but leaving the man with no other support system when he clearly needs help(therapy, counseling, etc etc) was a bitchy move.

She was his ONLY SUPPORT SYSTEM, and he clearly has problems-

Not saying she's obligated to help him, but given the circumstances she was really the only one who could

Leaving him/taking a break was a good choice, but don't just cut him off entirely and go for a new man right away. Leave him but still be there to be a shoulder to cry on and get him help, make sure to keep a healthy and friendly distance while doing so

Rody clearly has issues and needs help, and ditching him for another man(who clearly had no interest in her) was a dick move from Manon

Also- Manon, my girl, Vincent clearly didn't give a shit about you yet you kept trying- how desperate are ya? It's just sad

Also can we talk about the fact she said she still loves Rody yet immediately went for a new man aa soon as SHE broke it off.

(Spoilers for Dead Plate) Would you consider Dead Plate to be a yandere vn with that one ending where Vince makes Rody eat his ex?

Dead Plate is actually pretty fun because I actually quite like the type of gameplay of the diner dash genre, and it is impressive they were able to code this into RPG Maker of all things. Unfortunately, the gameplay is still pretty glitchy and majorly difficult to do in later levels because you need to hit a certain amount of quota to get certain endings, and the gameplay is rather difficult, so I had to search up some of the endings instead of completing the game like I usually do. To answer your question... kind of? It's one of those "it depends on your interpretation" kind of things (and probably the creator's twitter).

The story starts out with Rody who is hired to be a waiter at Vince's fancy restaurant after a lot of begging. We see that Rody is kind of a himbo and Vince is very straight laced. The majority of the story comes through the dialogue they have together. We learn that Rody is taking this temporary job to get a really fancy gift for his ex, Manon so that they can get back together again. Vince on the other hand seems to be a famous chef with a specific type of interest in food and is very serious about his job as a chef, to the point of intensity. We see in one of the scenes were Rody comes to take out the trash that he is yelling at one of the cooks for making a mistake, even putting their face over the oven fire to punish them. Similarly, when Rody accidentally knocks over the trash while taking ti out, Vince slaps him. At some point, Rody asks Vince if he can take some of the leftovers after each day, seeing as he doesn't really have much to eat. Vince allows him and each day, he is given a new dish that he leaves in the fridge. In one of the days, Rody interacts with a mouse, only to be served that to him as his leftovers. Rody also periodically gets very strange dreams about being eaten or otherwise prepared for food, often with Vince in them. During one of the days, after work, Rody ends up going into Vince's office, only to find a picture of him and Manon together in a bloody locket. He doesn't seem very happy about this, but proceeds as normal. Near the end of the week, Vince invites him to his house to serve a bunch of guests, which he does begrudgingly. Here we get to know how the other members of the guest know Vince. We also get to know that Rody considers Vince's food to taste not that great and that it in fact tastes "self absorbed", and we also learned that Rody dropped out of school at some point as well. After this, Rody ends up going into Vince's room and getting the fridge key but is promptly caught by Vince. Vince thanks him (sort of) for coming over and tending to his guest.

There are a couple of endings depending on certain criteria but we will go over them best we can.

The first ending happens when you are able to get enough money after doing all the shifts and quits the job from Vince telling him he no longer needs it. Rody, finally having enough money attempts to call Manon so that they can get dinner together, but the line is disconnected. He tries a couple of times, getting more desperate as he calls, even stating that he just wants to hear her voice, but no matter what, the call never connects.

The second ending happens when going into the freezer during the last day. Rody is caught and then promptly tied up by Vince. He is unable to escape, but Vince allows him to attempt to escape. He fails, no matter what and Vince kills him.

The third ending is probably the one that has the most information on the rest of the story, and is likely the most "cannon" ending for this game. It's similar to the second ending where he is tied up in the freezer, but this time he has brought matches to help him escape. He is able to escape the freezer, but finds a plate of meat on the counter. He is then promptly caught by Vince and has to avoid his attack. Missing this will cause Vince to kill Rody and drag him into the freezer. However, not missing will cause Vince to instead tear off Rody's ear and eat it, much to Rody's fear. We learn that the dish is actually Manon served up that Vince prepared specifically for him. We learn through Vince catching Rody a couple of times that Vince actually didn't care too much about his relationship with Manon, but rather the fact that Rody cared about her so much was what intrigued him. In fact, the reason why Vince ended up serving Rody Manon like this was because his critiques always talked about how his food was lack in love but due to Vince's lack of being able to taste, was never able to understand (this is foreshadowed when Rody calls his food bland and "self absorbed"). Because Rody constantly went on and on about Manon, he though that if he served him the thing he loved (Manon), that he would be able to make something that actually had that taste in "love" again (this is why Vince ends up serving the mouse he interacts with in one of the days, as he showed it "love"). Vince also reveals that this isn't something he normally does, as even the chef that he harassed earlier, he only fired and that he would never serve something like that to his customers, only seemingly doing this so he can revive his sense of "taste". Eventually, Rody ends up going into Vince's office and taking a broken bottle, stabbing Vince in the neck. He then ends up spreading oil all over the kitchen and promptly burning the entire building down, as Vince is still alive in it.

Finally, we get a flashback to when Rody and Manon broke up. It seems that Manon was mostly doing it because Rody would end up self sacrificing to provide for Manon, seeing as not only does he live in a shoddy apartment, but barely has enough money or interest in anything else but Manon. Manon seemed to have really loved Rody, but didn't want him to suffer by constantly catering to her, so she left him.

So now for the question of if I consider it a yandere vn, which is... it's hard to say? I don't think that this game was primarily made for a yandere to be one of the main characters (which is what I would more associate with a "yandere vn") but the two characters do exhibit some sort of yandere trait in one way or another.

Vince for instance has a very interesting take on love in terms of love in his food. You can for sure see him as just a person who is very obsessed over how his food taste, but it is also obvious that he has some sort of favoritism towards Rody, whether romantic in nature or not (it seems probably considering that Vince is gay), as all of the dishes that Rody takes home were made by Vince, and that he seems geuinely a bit sad when Rody quits on the first ending, as well as specifically making a dish made of Manon to serve to Rody. This seems to mostly be interpreted as a way for Vince to not only gain his sense of taste back but also to serve someone food with "love", but I can for sure see it as a way for him to make him shut up about Manon since he seems pretty annoyed when she's brought up. Still, he does end up killing him in like two of the endings, one where he is stuck bound up by rope in the freezer and one where he fails to defend himself. The second one can probably be chalked up to anger that Rody didn't eat the meal that Vince prepared him, but I'm not so sure about the other one. I guess it could be a way for him to eat his love like a lot of cannibal yanderes are like.

Rody himself is has a lot of the traits of light yanderes towards Manon, seeing that he basically seems to dedicate everything to her. Manon describes him as not ready for a relationship considering he keeps on trying to give up everything for her and calls his love exhausting, probably referring to how much he talks about her to Vince or to anyone. Even in his apartment, it's obvious that he doesn't really take good care of himself, with everything being very messy, with him burning his food and him sleeping on the couch. He doesn't seem very happy when seeing Manon and Vince together and seems to believe that money is the way that he can get back together with Manon, ignoring the actual reason, which is that when they are together, Rody ends up neglecting himself and just caring for Manon. On the twitter page, it's also confirmed that he would hide a body for Manon if that ever did happen.

Overall, very fun game. Love the aesthetic of the time incorporated into the game and the general character's attitudes. Whether or not Vince or even Rody is a yandere seems to be a pretty hotly debated topic amongst the fandom it's in, so I think it's for sure up to interpretation or until word of god says that they are.

Table for Two is basically what I think would happen after the table for one ending, ,, rody goes back to la gueule de saturne after manon never picks up . overtime he starts to piece together what happened to her but before then he starts to get closer with Vince so . conflicted emotions and feelings everything is a mess he is so mental illness (also . gay . who would've guessed)

I haven't settled on a name for this one yet maybe going with Kitchen Sink but idk anyway . Timeloop au . After every ending the week resets to the beginning. Both Vince and Rody remember the previous loops . also alternate endings that are different from the game . Everything is so fucked

And then there's Ashtray which takes place after Abbatoir (<- idk if I'm spelling that right I forgot) and it's just Vince being haunted by Rody and Manon's ghosts because I haven't seen a haunted Vince au somehow so my brain started working . Extra metaphorical salt in the metaphorical wound is that Rody and Vince had their whole discussion during the chase scene before Vince killed him so he has some things to think about

Dead Plate Wednesday AU

Chapter 1

Some explanations + the end of the first proper day. It’s on the shorter side.

Just some stuff to hype me for writing (I have a bit of block the last year and I also lost the password to my old acc…..)

CHARACTERS ARE AGED UP! (Not for smut, just for plot. And you cannot pay me to write about school life in detail.)

Wednesday is Vince, obviously.

So that means Enid is Rody, working around the clock serving up the dishes Wednesday oversees are perfect.

She’s saving up for her loving boyfriend, Ajax! Sure he hasn’t showed for a while when he had promised, but he’s probably stoned, right?

They work at Jericho, it’s a restaurant like in the original, however they serve coffee with certain meals and they have special brewers in the kitchen.

Wednesday has ZERO taste, she drinks straight black coffee, she serves food bitter, sour, not particularly to Enid’s taste, but it’s not for her, until it is.

Enid packs away, she takes out the dirty plates, she passes her regards to the chefs, dishwashers, coffee makers, everyone.

She takes out the trash, she wipes down the tables, all with a wine bottle she’s gotten used to gripping tightly in her hand precent.

Wednesday watches her. Hawk eyes scorch the wolf’s oblivious brain. She’s checking for imperfections, quite simply. The dishes not being fully put away, a spec of dirt on the table.

Enid is different and she just doesn’t know why.. she needs to find out. She needs to know everything about herself and this waiter is just an anomaly in that confidence of self. She forms an idea.

Wednesday shows no sign of cracking the sick smile she wants to as she passes Enid a firmly wrapped plate.

“Enid.” The werewolf’s ears perk and she stiffly turns, bin bag in hand, thinking she’s at the very least in mild trouble for her shotty service. One table left and there was a critic, on her first day.. She swiftly walks over, small grimace on her face.

Wednesday holds out the plate. “Do you have somewhere to put this?” Enid’s head tilts. “It’s for you. Do you have anywhere to put it?”

Enid huffs, tension releasing. “Uhh..” she thinks for a second, finally putting down the wine. “No.”

Wednesday’s eyebrows raise, she’s waiting for something.

…

“Do you need a bag?”

“Yes, please” Enid flashes a crooked smile, eyes crinkling. The Raven pauses. She looks at both of Enid’s eyes, searching. Then the places the plate down and disappears into her office.

Enid holds the plate and looks at it. Ew. It looked fine, but it felt wrong. Certain things just feel wrong, like when you click a button but then you need to click it again so then it’s like it reset. This food cannot be reset.

She just looks down at it. She feels grateful, sure, but it just..

Wednesday holds out the bag and Enid almost jumps, just settling for blinking multiple times at the girl, then quickly putting the plate into the bag and taking it from her. Silent.

The ride home felt wrong. The bag swayed on the handle whenever the bike turned or whenever Enid’s knee hit off of the plate.

It was a normal bag, plain white. Like a bag you would get after going to a high end restaurant.

It was quickly shoved into the fridge, the bottom shelf, and forgot about.

She picks up the phone and begins, from heart, to dial up Ajax, tell him about her weird Co worker, how she gave her food and how off it felt, how much she misses him,

how it doesn’t matter how long they haven’t seen each other because they can make it through anything,

How much she’s saving up for him,

how she will take him somewhere nice,

How she will be nice..

The line cuts. Guess he’s stoned again.

vincent charbonneau is also aromantic: a personal interpretation and analysis from one aromantic

i'm scared of this not reaching the right people, but i just finished dead plate + got all the endings, and vince as an aromantic allegory is so relevant that it's driving me up the wall! keep in mind as you read that this is just my interpretation :)

the use of cannibalism as a metaphor in dead plate is interesting, as it usually illustrates a very obsessive love that someone has for another person or object, to the point where they let it consume them whole. however, i think you can also interpret the cannibalism as an obsession for trying to give the love that is expected of you.

"I've been told I don't cook with love -- which is a sentimental and meaningless review in the culinary world. I'm a professional chef, not a parent making a meal for their kid."

he can't cook "with love." i assume that he cooks by following precise formulas and measurements that guarantee flavour. flavour he can't taste. flavour he has read about, somewhat understands in theory, but can never experience for himself.

however, this doesn't mean his cooking is bad. he is critically acclaimed for his culinary skill. he opened la guele de saturne in his early 20's. it's no doubt that he's respected and feared in the world of food, but even with several awards to his name, he's told he's missing something. something supposedly crucial. something he doesn't give a damn about, but bothers him nonetheless.

"I can't stand eating. No matter the ingredient, no matter the recipe, everything tastes the exact same. It tastes like nothing, it makes me sick. But with… With you… maybe…"

there are several different interpretations of this scene, but i personally read it as vince living a delusion where if he keeps at it, keeps trying, forces himself to understand, he will eventually find what he's been searching for.

but he won't. it just doesn't work like that. not for him.

"If everything so far has tasted nothing to you, what makes you think I'll be any different? If you're really doing all this just so you can taste again, when it turns out I'm just like any other, what will you do? You would have killed her. You would have killed me for no reason. Are you really ready to deal with that? If this is your idea of trying to make yourself happy, I don't think you'll ever be full."

and rody was right. it wouldn't have mattered which part of him he tore off, it would have all just tasted the same. the same nothing. the same wave of disappointment and frustration would wash over him again and he'd be left a hollow shell with the knowledge that he had killed a person, he had eaten a person, he went through the whole ordeal, and it got him nothing. any hope that maybe this will be different, this won't be like the previous, would be crushed under his own heel.

to me, vince's obsessive search for his sense of taste is an unending search for this something you will never get. in the same way he will never taste, i will never experience love or romance in the way everybody expects me to. this isn't to exclude aros who do experience romantic attraction or do have healthy romantic relationships, and it's not to illustrate being aromantic as something unfulfilling or negative. but you can't deny that this acceptance carries a LOT of weight, and sometimes, denial is sweeter than making peace with it.

vincent charbonneau is my personal aromantic allegory, and whether or not it was intentional, i honestly felt very seen in his character, and i think that is so so important :) hopefully this all made sense,, if there is anything strangely worded i will make it clearer!

Francis let out a long sigh of relief, taking his cap off with one hand, using the other to dab away at his sweaty forehead with a handkerchief. Upon seeing the exhausted man, you can’t help but smile softly, shaking your head as you get ready to scold him, once again. You cross your arms, looking at him through the window with a playful disappointed glare.

“mhm mhm, what do we have here? you really should be getting more sleep, mr. milkman, your eyes are starting to sport their own eye bags.”

with this comment, Francis shakes his head but is unable to stop the small, yet tired smile on his face. he bends down to place the crate of milk jugs onto the floor before handing over his ID card. you hum, narrowing your eyes when Francis doesn’t give into your whims. you eye his card, glancing at it a few times before slipping it back to him with a chuckle.

Francis’s eyebrow raises in confusion at your reaction but ends up shaking his head, rolling his eyes playfully and sighing softly. he places his cap back on his head and huffs, deeming your reaction as a go ahead inside.

“now… what if i was a doppelganger? you aren’t even going to call my room to check if someone is there? such a reliable doorman we have.”

despite Francis’s playful tone, your grin slips into a frown as you study Francis from behind the glass. this causes him to tense up, suddenly feeling nervous, like he did something wrong. you hum, tilting your head into your palm as you seemingly analyze Francis for a little while before deciding to speak.

“what’s up brother?”

Francis blinks a few times in surprise, his head tilting in confusion at your question. His eyes narrow as he thinks about the question you asked.

“what’s… up… brother…?”

Francis looks up at the ceiling, taking your question to heart. upon seeing nothing on the ceiling, Francis can only shake his head and sigh at your antics.

“are you done with your tomfoolery, (Y/n)? i’m quite exhausted and would like to go up to my room and rest.”

you can only shake your head, clasping your hands together like a disappointed father getting ready to discuss their kids grades at the dinner table. you begin to explain.

“when Francis first walks in here, he always forgets one of three things… his keys, his hate or the crate of milk. you came in here, although exhausted, you seemed put together, unlike Francis, who is clearly going through a midlife crisis. Francis will then ask me about my cat, well, because he’s a cat person, though he insists no one knows. oh, and, Francis’s home phone has been broken for the past few days and is actually at the store, right now. so, Francis being here so soon, isn’t possible. that, and, well, Francis never understands my references, but indulges me anyway… anything else i forgot, doppelganger?”

you bat your eyelashes, smirking from behind the window like you just cracked down the traitor in your group. with each statement, Francis’s doppelgänger’s face becomes visibly more and more angry until the doppelganger begins to completely change: black eyes with white pupils, a wide and eerie black mouth, adorned with long and sharp claws on the end of the doppleganger’s elongated limbs.

“you… you’ll regret this… i will get in one day and get my feast, starting with you. i’ll gut you, keep you alive so you can watch your organs fall out of your body and your blood splatter against-! *CLANK! BAM! PLINK!*”

before the doppelganger could finish his fantasy, much to your amusement, the doppleganger’s body tenses upon being struck before crumpling to the floor after becoming unconscious. you look up from the doppleganger’s body to see the real Francis hovering above the possibly dead doppelganger. you shrug, knowing that you wouldn’t have to call DDD services to take care of the mess, now you just have to clean up the body.

“mmm… tuesday… tuesday…? did i get that right?”

you hold back a chuckle at Francis’s response to your last question. you can only nod, letting Francis have the win this time. pinching the bridge of your nose and sighing, a loud laugh bubbles up from your throat as the two of you realized what Francis had hit the doppelganger with.

“ngh… i just bought this phone, damnit… his hard head must have broken it.”

I finished all 4 Studio Investigraves games and I have opinions. (Spoilers to all the games by the way but you already know that)

I played them all backwards from the most recent to least recent by complete accident hence why I shall be reviewing them from least recent to most recent. I'll be judging them based off gameplay, characters and story. Of course don't take this too seriously it's my general opinion and I wouldn't mind hearing other people's personal tier list about which game was their favourite. My interpretation of the characters can of course vary from others opinions as well so keep that in mind.

4. Eloquent Countenance

Gameplay: the gameplay in this one wasn't actually bad, I quite liked doing the different tasks however with that being said, I also got lost multiple times about what I was supposed to do (I think i'm to blame for this once honestly because it was spelled out for me). Overall I still liked it but again I had issues. I did however adore the mix of 3d modelling and 2d models.

Story: The story isn't bad, if anything it leaves room for so many things. The explanation to the end did confuse me though because I couldn't tell if Forcas was talking to the woman trapped in the body or if he was talking to the angel that had taken over the body. And also why did us the angel decide that we did want to give the body back to her? Again a lot of questions that I think can be expanded on if they ever to second game. (I think this is mostly me wanting a second game so badly lol)

Characters: Our character Lisa is alright, I have no grievances with her, she's funny and sarcastic as hell and honestly my favourite. Forcas on the other hand... I like his shenanigans, but there is only so much fourth wall breaking one can take before it isn't very special, I guess? The way he speaks is like how I would write an overpowered annoying know-it-all character when I was 13. So yea not my favourite. I do love their characters designs though, absolutely gorgeous in my opinion.

3. Cold Front

Gameplay: I had no problem with the gameplay, except maybe when I was running from the monster, that was the only hard part. This was a shorter game so there wasn't too much gameplay and coming down to the end I was honestly a little annoyed that we'd basically ceased gameplay and had started basically just started reading out the rest of the story. I wish there was a boss fight to the end, a little something something to really close it off would've been nice.

Story: It was heartwarming (ironic). I can not express it enough that I really love how well done the story is, both endings really got me. One was a happy ending technically with only Augustine living and it was so dark that he was happy to finally feel seen again once Winnie was dead. Winnie had no idea that he was breaking a lot of Augustine's boundaries but at the same time, these two just needed some communication and they were fine in the end which was perfectly okay with me. They both reflected and became better people together.

Characters: No notes, they were good. I loved the fucked up anxiety version of Augustine and Winnie, it really shows how anxiety is and how overthinking and keeping everything in can really harm a friendship.

2. Dead Plate

Gameplay: There is so much that needs to be talked about with the gameplay. First of all, our character Rody, does not have a side and back angle so that you can tell which way you're facing, which messed me up a lot when I tried to serve tables. When I first booted up the game it took me way too long to figure out the what to do in the tutorial (This one might be on me tbh so I won't be too mean to the game about it). The various customers did not make any facial expressions as to help indicate to the players their level of annoyance going from good-> annoyed-> angry-> leaving. I really wished they had that, even if it weren't a face at least some sounds would've been nice.

Story: I adored the story, it's fucked up, it's nice and it's overall really good. Genuinely no notes, it's cut and dry, nothing overally complicated and I loved it.

Characters: I loved the characters. Rody is so deeply in love with his girlfriend (Marieanna) and loses his sense of self. He literally does not know who he is without her and instead of listening to her and improving himself and becoming his own person, he makes himself think that if he just had enough money, that she would take him back. Vince on the other hand, woah that motherfucker is a little mad in the head isn't he? I was expecting your usual obsessive yandere esc character but no. He becomes not really obsessed but more like testing a theory. He has never tasted food and wants so desperately to make food where you can taste the love in it so when he found out about Rody whiles dating Marieanne, well he just had to put this theory to the taste test right? I also live for the theory of him wanting to express his love to Rody by feeding him the thing that he loved most (I think this theory is actually pretty solid tbh and I'm not sure if it's a theory or confirmed within the game. I played this so long ago that I've kind of forgotten).

1. Elevator Hitch

Gameplay: This one might be obvious to most people who follow me but Elevator Hitch is literally my absolute favourite. The gameplay itself was quite fun, I enjoyed the puzzles and tasks that had to be done and the uniqueness of each floor. I had one problem where I didn't realise you could look around the elevator, I wished there were some arrows to indicate you could do that but overall the gameplay was solid.

Story: The story is simple, simple in a fun complicated way. It certainly didn't answer why the building is the way it is but that was alright with me. I enjoyed especially the small glimpses at protag's life before he got stuck in the elevator. I loved the ending, the fact that he had no real choice but to go back was *chef's kiss* Sad ending for Protag but that's okay, solid story.

Characters: One of my favourite head cannons about this game is that coworker is actually pretending to be stupid about the situation that we the player are experiencing and I can be more than be convinced about that. Our main character definitely has shit going on, as saw in the end he needed that job and well the fourth floor with his parents. I loved the dialogue options and the dynamic going on between the two of them. They're both silly and share one brain cell and I adore them for that.

the case study of vanitas: anime/manga about a vampire named noè who befriends (and falls in love with) a human named vanitas. very entertaining, a great balance of humour and angst, wonderful storyline and characters, and beautiful art style

heaven official's blessing: novel about a fallen god and his one and only worshipper, a ghost king, who has been devoted to him for centuries. very cute and will also rip your heart out. wonderful characters including side characters, incredible storytelling, and some of the most beautiful writing you'll ever see. it has an unfinished animated adaptation, but the novel is complete.

hunter x hunter: anime about a boy named gon who decides he wants to follow the most dangerous profession in the world, and his best friend who ran away from his abusive family. has some of the most heart-wrenching scenes ever, amazing writing for all characters including the antagonists, and very deep themes.

attack on titan: anime about a boy named eren who trains to be a soldier so he can live in a free world. genuinely the best storytelling you'll ever see, absolutely incredible characters and plot and will definitely make you cry your eyes out.

trigun: anime about a wanted criminal named vash, who is trying to blindly save humanity. got a reboot in 2023, both are very good. very funny but also has a sad overarching story. will definitely hit you right in the heart.

dead plate: video game about a man named rody, who works at a restaurant to try and win his girlfriend back. very fun game but features many dark themes, has an interesting storyline and beautiful art.

chainsaw man: anime/manga about a boy named denji, who makes a contract with his pet devil in order to live, and ends up being used for his powers. super well-written and features lots of themes of non-sexual intimacy and platonic love, as well as grief.

the raven cycle: book series about a friend group who are trying to find an ancient corpse. features characters who are all a little in love with each other and is beautifully written.

fruits basket: anime about a girl named tohru who moves in with the popular boy at school and helps to break his clan's curse. romance on the surface but actually about overcoming your traumas and learning how to grow as a person. very cute character designs too.

actually i'm gonna talk about it because i'm unwell about it spoilers for dead plate beneath the cut

Vince and Rody's characters are SO interesting to me because they literally have the same problem to completely different degrees and go about it in wildly different ways. Like Rody is obsessed with Manon, he's pushy and thinks about her constantly and the only reason he even applies for La Gueule de Saturne is because he wants to save up to take her on an expensive date.

Rody is quite literally the overbearing boyfriend, to the point that Manon BROKE UP WITH HIM and he's STILL CALLING HER NIGHTLY a FULL WEEK LATER. Nothing about that screams "well adjusted partner".

On the opposite end, Vincent is obsessed with Rody in a similar but not equal way. He literally believes that Rody will be the thing to fix him, and is convinced that what he's doing has a greater cause but that Rody has to be the one to fulfill it. Rody's obsession over Manon is the catalyst for Vince's subsequent obsession with him.

Of course Rody deals with his feeling by hounding Manon and doing everything with the intention of winning her back. Vince deals with his feelings by literally trying to eat Rody, so. Clearly different solutions there.

What makes me truly feel crazy is that Vincent is disgusted at the implication that he's a cannibal?? Or that he'd ever eat anyone else. He's SO CONVINCED that Rody is the answer that he, in some twisted way, doesn't see what he's done as awful or reprehensible. Like sir you killed someone and fed them to someone else with the intention of eating that someone else. What about that is normal. TBF, he's also shown to just generally be a questionable person anyways, so it sorta makes sense.

(The whole game anytime Vince did ANYTHING I was sitting there screaming "THAT IS A BOSS RED FLAG!!! GET TF OUT OF THERE RODY!!!!" And then he didn't leave so. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)

From what we get from the game (from what i remember), we know that Vince and Manon dated for a very short period of time. Vince clearly didn't care about her, and Manon treated him "like a rebound." We also know that Manon still loved Rody after the breakup, but left him because she felt uncomfortable with the tilted scales in the relationship. So, presumably, Vince discovered Rody through Manon, for whatever reason.

Which is fine. It all makes sense! But what the actual fuck incensed Vince to begin with his whole plan. In what world did learning that some random woman is still into her ex conjure up the idea, "Oh, I think I'm gonna kill her and feed her to her ex so that when I eventually kill him too, he'll taste like he was made with love 🥰🥰" I'M SO FUCKING SORRY???

I need to know what the thought process was before, during, and after. Because why. What. Help.

And Rody clearly saw the red flags!!! He KNEW something was weird about Vince. Sure, he might've thought it was just typical toxic boss shit, but it was definitely clear in the fact that he flipped between being generally amicable with Rody and being awful enough to slap him in front of the whole kitchen staff. Like he snooped through his apartment the moment the opportunity arrived. He did not respect Vince any further than "this man provides me the money I'm going to spend on Manon."

Also the fact that Vince clearly had people that, even if not considered friends, were friendly enough with him to come to his place for a dinner party of some sort? He wasn't a serial killer or a practicing cannibal anything he just had the craziest grudge against this couple specifically. Vince saw Manon being sad and went "what if I killed her and then also the guy that she's sad about. Teehee." There's something wrong with him.

I'm just. Rody seems so normal next to Vince and then you think about the fact that he's calling Manon nightly and not eating consistently and saving all the money he could be using to fix his bathroom or clean his apartment so he can take his ex girlfriend somewhere fancy for a SINGLE date. Not to mention his denial that they've even broken up. Rody may be normal but he is Not Okay.

Don't even get me started on the third ending. Vince chasing down Rody to kill him makes sense and Rody fighting back also makes sense but it drives me crazy (in a good way) that he lights the bistro on fire afterwards. He said "stabbing him in the neck ten times isn't enough I need to light him on fire" and he was correct to do so. Fuck him up Rody. The image of ALL THOSE LINE COOKS working there waking up without work because they're fucking job burnt down with the boss inside is also very funny to me. Wild series of events.

The news the next day must've been wild like. Famous bistro burnt to the ground with owner inside. Owner's apartment, directly above the bistro, was also burnt down. Former employees come forth about awful working conditions from said owner.

That shit HAD to have become a cold case. True crime girlies would have a field day with that if it were true. This guy mistreats employees and generally doesn't care about customers' opinions on the food, and then he fucking burns to death with his bistro and apartment going down with him? Within a week of a new server being hired?? There's no way they wouldn't suspect SOMEONE doing that and the chances of Rody being number one suspect are not zero.

But also this takes place in 1960s France and idk anything about their law enforcement or what even a case like this would look like in that setting so. Who knows.

I could talk more about Vince's idea of love and how it relates to food, as well as the extent that Rody's need to please goes (him going "you'd do that for me...?" when Vince offers him a fifteen second head start on not being butchered. I'm truly baffled. Wild thing to say to the man who has you tied up in a meat freezer and is threatening to eat you. What), but I couldn't articulate it if I tried so I leave you with this.

There is just so much going on in this game. I'm astounded. Sometimes a story about a wannabe cannibal and an obsessive ex trying to kill each other can be so personal.

his name is levine moreau, nicknamed "quill", which ill be using to refer to him from here on out. he's 20 (21 at the events of DP), and an agender aroace.

quill grew up in an entitled, high class family that held his to incredibly high standards, expecting nothing less than the best from him. as the only child, he had a lot of weight on his shoulders, and was expected to carry on the family "legacy".

with a delusional mother who believes him to be a very young girl, even after he became a teenager, and a father who was essentially blind to how it was harmful, quill ended up feeling suffocated in his own house very often and moved out rather early at 17, mostly jumping between hotels, using money he had been saving up.

once he ran out of money for resources at 18, he became somewhat desperate and took any jobs he could, eventually turning to prostitution as a last resort. after being used by a woman named Amira, who left him drunk in the back alley of La Gueule De Saturne , now a 21 y/o at the time of the events, meaning yes, 2-3 years of prostitution, he ended up drunkenly stumbling inside, passing out at one of the tables after breaking in.

vince finds him there in the morning, and begins to criticize him for it, but quill beats him to it, extremely hungover, he begins berating himself out loud, criticizing himself for falling asleep and being hungover, and blaming himself for what happened, muttering about being better, and how he's "better than that".

vince interrupts him, realizing that, judging by his rants, quill isn't just some low class idiot who got drunk and wandered around town, and takes a little pity on him, offering him a job as a cook—a weeklong trial run that quill easily aces, meeting vince's strict expectations and exceeding them.

it was 2 months later when rody came in as a waiter and met quill after bursting into the kitchen to talk to vince. quill took an immediate dislike to him, due to his absurd eagerness and extreme amount of energy. despite this, he made sure to keep rody out of trouble with vince, warming up enough to trust him as an acquaintance and inform him of vince's strictness and how to stay in line as much as possible.

ending 1: no major role.

ending 2: quill is present at the dinner party as, unsurprisingly, the cook. he is startled to see rody, and can be found later on at the party in vince's room, putting the freezer key in his pocket and shooing rody out, informing him the bathroom is the first room, not the second, and avoiding the question of why he was in vince's room. vince catches rody coming out of the room, and the dialogue progresses normally, with quill missing for the rest of the scene until the freezer sequence.

when rody enters the freezer, which he finds unlocked, quill can be found inspecting the locket, and after a short exchange, it's revealed that quill knew manon vaguely, but not on the best terms, and was unaware of the relationship between her and rody, but was very much aware that vince was corresponding with her.

rody initially believes quill is the one making food from human meat, until quill bluntly states that he only entered the fridge to figure out what the noise from a day ago was, assuming someone was trapped in there. rody, embarrassed, begins to leave the freezer, only to discover it's been locked and barred from the outside.

quill suddenly apologizes, and when rody questions why, quill solemnly explaining that he had no choice but to lure him there, as vince was starting to get impatient and snappish with how perfect the food was, and that it felt suffocating. he tells rody that he only did it to get back on vince's good side and become useful again, but rody dismisses him completely, and is suddenly knocked out. upon awakening, rody finds himself tied up as normal, and also discovers that quill is nowhere to be found.

ending 3: no major role. he can be seen in an end cutscenes stumbling out of the burning restaurant, staring at it before bumping into rody, making eye contact before dropping his gaze and starting to leave—however, rody offers to let him stay at his place.

ending 4: no major role. short cutscenes plays of quill standing beside vince in the kitchen holding a plate of unidentifiable body parts. he turns to the camera with a darkened expression, and then turns to ask vince something. the scene ends at vince glancing up at him in question.

The day of love and friendship. Where lovers and friends gk and buy gifts for eachother, have several dates, eat chocolate and tell eachother how much they matter. It was a beautiful day for everyone else. But it was also his day. Rody's day. His birthday.

He ignored everything else around him, he just wanted to get back at home as soon as possible. He used a bit of his remaining funds he had when he worked at the bistro, just to buy a little piece of cake, not a whole birthday cake, but a sole piece. He shut his door as he leaned his back against it, giving a huge exhale, he could sense that feeling approach him already: sadness, guilt, remorse. It wasn't his first time feeling like this in Valentine's Day, but he feels so much worse than what he could remember during that era before he met her.

Rody went ahead and sat down at the couch, eating the piece of cake he got, awaiting for it to remove away his ideas. It kinda felt icky, as some thoughts of Manon's terrible but good-hearted baking would come to mind, he tried to brush them off, anxiously chewing on the cake nonstop. But it wouldn't stop, the more he remembered, the more dread he felt for this day: he is alone, all alone, both for Valentine's day, and his own birthday. His family is gone, Manon is gone, nobody else is around. Right, he already experienced this before, what about it, right? Right? It shouldn't be so different from when you were on your own. But once you get a taste of what you thought love is like, it is really hard to let go just like that.

Rody shook his head and just finished his cake whole, slamming the dish onto the table. "It's nothing… Just another year, me getting older and older, it's nothing! Nothing at all, just another average day…" He rubbed his face as he layed down on the couch. There was no need for him to stay awake when there was nothing else to do, nothing going on, nowhere to go, nobody to meet. So he just… waited until his eyes closed.

Before his eyes, there was a plate with a cake and a candle, not a big one, but it wasn't a mere piece of cake either, but an average cake. The room had no lights, only the candle and illuminated aprts of the cake being visible. Rody stared at it with tiresome eyes, yet feeling strange. He got startled when hearing someone singing and gently clapping next to him, "Happy birthday, dear Rody! Happy birthday to you!~".

Rody turned, there she was, the blue Manon he saw in another dream.

"Manon?" Rody asked

Manon turned to him with a soft smile, "Happy birthday, Rody! And Valentines day as well"

Rody smiled a bit, but when he tried to approach Manon's hand, he frowned.

"Ah, this isn't real, isn't it?"

"Hm? What about it?" Manon asked

"I mean, nobody is here and-"

"I am here, Rody"

"Yeah! But- Ahh, I don't know like… You'e here but you're NOT here, you know what I mean?"

"I am here, Rody, don't worry! You won't spend your special day by yourself"

"Ahh, it's my mind playing games with me, right? It's just making me imagine things that I want so bad to be real, only for them to not be real!"

Late night dead plate!

Family.

From what I can tell, both Rody and Vincent aren’t close to their families. Feel like their families play big roles in how they are now. Rody dropping out of college (the shame from it) and being a people pleaser, both seem like they relate to his family. We have a lot more of an idea on Vincent family so I won’t say much.

Mamon is who I’m looking at. Thank you to the person who told me Vincent was a rebound for Mammon!

Based off of how the to guys seem to have basically no friends nor a close relationship with their families I think it’s also the case with Mamon. Now, I don’t exactly remember the day she was murdered but we do know it was around the time Vincent met Rody. That all the food given at the end of the work shift has some part of Mamon in it (from my understanding).

A young woman disappeared for more than a week. Why was there no news of her disappearance? If she had family and friends I feel they’d call or talk to Rody to see if he knew anything or maybe he’d seen some missing poster. Nothing. In the game there isn’t a sign that someone noticed she went missing.

I said in my last post the Mamon isn’t as bad as the guys, she could have a few friends or still talks to her family but she definitely isn’t close if no one noticed her vanishing right away.

Also since I did learn that Mamon was the one to approach Vincent I’d like to state that I do think she’s a “fixer”. She can’t help but approach guys that need some sort of change, help, or care. Is it out of love? A need to feel needed? To be the “savior”? Being a “savior” can be seen as the inbetween of Rody and Vincent’s behaviors. It requires both a destructive selfishness and selflessness.

Was she like this because she was lonely like them? Does she watch Rody as a ghost because he was the person she was closest to in life? Hoping to warn him? To save him?

Does she regret loving Rody? Does she regret caring? Is she angry? Were the dreams that Rody was having her doing?

I’m interested in Mamon. In Rody and Vincent. All so interesting. Maybe Mamon wasn’t messed up at all and I’m just trying to cram her into this silly little story I have in my head about the selfish and selfless. The ones the feast and ones serving themselves on a plater.

OK so its been a month since the last time ive played Dead Plate and uhh oops!! my bad !!

in my defense life has gotten very busy for me especially since its the holidays but now i finally have the time to finish this game and get at least one ending!! (hopefully)

the amount of times ive played through day 4's nightmare sequence is killing me

well, thats the end of my playthrough on Dead Plate

honestly, it was a very fun and enjoyable game! i liked the serving aspect even tho i kinda sucked at it and like i also really liked Rody and Vince despite all that just happened those two are seriously fucked up and i love them LOLOL

the music was really good and made up for having to redo day 5 over and over again alskdjh i was jamming most of the time to the music the art was also really good! i liked how cute the pixel sprites were, and then like the art for the portraits and CGs and everything was also really good! i really enjoyed the art style and music

the story was interesting, and i liked it too the twist was wild and blew my mind but i am still a massive fan of Vincent x Rody JKDAHSDKJ

i like how there was a cannibalism twist but Vincent wasnt actually like, an actual cannibal he was just insane and planning on making Rody an unknowing cannibal

i know he ate Rody's ear but like. he said that he doesnt eat people on the regular so yk he's just fucked up

also its really funny reading all the comments and seeing a lot of Vincent x Rody stuff LMFAOOO so true of everybody honestly

overall, 10/10 would play again solely for the server gameplay (would be cool to have a kind of endless mode where you just serve customers until one leaves or something) and also because i love these characters
