I don’t usually make posts like this, but I’ve been seeing a lot of anti-intellectual junk lately, and I really think we need to put the word “pretentious” up on a shelf until people learn what it actually means.

It doesn’t describe someone who likes artsy-fartsy deep meaning media. People who are pretentious are fake. They’re posers trying to be sophisticated and unique, not like other girls. They pretend to only like stuff they think will make them sound cool when they talk about it. They want to act like they know something you don’t, and they want attention for it.

By definition, if you genuinely enjoy something, you can’t be pretentious. If it resonates with you, and you analyze it, and you don’t care what people think, that’s the polar opposite, actually. If you love obscure experimental prog music, if you watch underground high concept indie films through English teacher eyes, if you spend hours in a modern art museum reading each piece as a vessel for storytelling, if your backpack’s full of poetry books that inspire you, if you play underrated games that were someone’s passion project, if you have an interest in studying the classics or the masters, you are not pretentious.

Of course, some people just don’t like some stuff, and that’s fine, but that’s not what this is about. Don’t let anti-intellectuals shame you for enjoying things just because your interests are inaccessible to them, because they refuse to be brave and put effort into critical thinking. You’re not stuck up for refusing to overlook the craft of artists.

Barbie is a culturally iconic symbol almost archetypical of societal expectations for women #you say barbie people think unblinking perfect plastic pink girly. reminds me of the poem The Last Mojave Indian Barbie. yeah yeah you all #hate brands but this one carries undeniable significance and makes for a powerful literary device. it’s been used many times before #sorry for writing a tag essay about a film I haven’t even seen but I’m tired of internet people focusing so much on proving others wrong #that they end up oversimplifying everything just as much as the other person. god I saw people doing this to Nimona saying transphobes were #looking too deep into her character and they’re reactionary clowns for making that jump. like for once the transphobes are right. she is #trans. it’s a queer story. and irl the first people who notice queerness are the bigots who can tell you’re different. sick owns telling #them the story’s not that deep is harmful and it’s like they’re ignoring the real message on purpose. okay enough rambling hehe! thanks #barbie #nimona

Have to leave in about an hour for my first dentist appointment in almost 3 years and of course, I'm fucking shitting bricks from nerves...

man, you ever realize you needed to correct a small character detail to make it more accurate and then it peeves you off a lil 💀💀💀

#specifically I just swapped around the eye colors for my splatoon agent 4's heterochromia because APPARENTLY #red is pretty dark when grayscaled . and the reason i wanted to grayscale it in the first place was for whenever #i do a colorless doodle of them (grayscale values are fun)- but now 'm teased over the bday art i made of him cuz its inaccurate #ngl been beefin with his eyecolor a while but 'm just gonna try to stick with what i got- cant go changin it all willy nilly cuz it'll also #affect his brothers' appearances . i think a red and gray eye tho is a nifty color combo but then that makes me beef with hair design .#still not sure how im really gonna go about coloring splatoon OCs' hair cuz i like colored tips but also i tend to like #making it game accurate?? i think i just need to suck it up and do what i want forever (do colored tips even if theyre a lil harder)#i mention colored tips cuz originally they were a light blue . but i dont want TOO many different colors (i already have #yellow/red/gray on him so blue might be much) :( and like I could maybe just change the gray eye to blue but then???#it'll make his brother have the wrong eye color in the trans roblox drawing :( plus theres kind of a reason i made an eye red and the other #something plain (the contrast in colored appearance wise . plus my agent 4 is hella self conscious abt his looks) so its not #like i can really change it . augh im at a loss on what to do !! mm might just make it so that the colored tips go darker #rather than colored. Peter would soon be winning rave reviews on the english stage‚ and from there film work and screen immortality #beckoned. unsurprisingly this would be O'Toole's only ITC credit (and before they were even called ITC)‚ although he did make a handful #of other tv appearances (mostly single plays in drama strands) before Hollywood claimed his as their own #his brief appearance here is quite fun and he gets to mug quite mercilessly to Stanley van Beer's villainous Chauvelin #alas i can't with clear heart recommend the ep to anyone looking to see a baby Peter; it is alas Hella Racist. not his scenes‚ but #the later body of the episode‚ which features star Marius Goring playing a Chinese character in yellowface (as well as the Pimpernel in #yellowface impersonating the Chinese character‚ a sort of meta racism??)#it's pretty awful‚ as is the accent and the dialogue choices.#imdb lists this as the 18th and final ep but wiki and network place it 4th and i suspect imdb is following the US transmission #bc they list the show under its overseas title of simply The Scarlet Pimpernel

I feel like there are roughly two kinds of "painfully weird kid" that you can be during your K-12 school years. the first is your "I am trying so hard to be normal but I just cannot seem to hit the mark. there's just something wrong with me and I don't know how to fix it" and the second is the category I was in, which is your "everyone around me is so incredibly weird but they obviously can't help it so I will just have to accept this."

#being a deeply weird kid in school was definitely an experience #i feel like it's also heightened when you attend a private catholic school #there are just so many more layers of 'oh wow so this is...a thing' to deal with #like i honestly think the shit that private catholic schools do to a kid's head is worse for the normal kids #i was already at a point where i just accepted that my personal perspective of the world was radically different #and you really weren't going to convince me to start loving denim or perfume or makeup #so trying to get me to feel a bunch of religious guilt was also not going to work #i just added it to the long list of things that are important to most ppl that i just don't give a shit about and moved on #honestly being autistic in a private catholic school put me in a much better spot than a normal catholic student #the teachers would say something absolutely batshit insane #like telling us that 'mentally disabled' kids get a free pass to heaven because they have no original sin just like animals #(if u know ur catholic shit u can imagine the multiple layers of 'but wait!' involved in this statement but anyway)#and your normal catholic student would be like 'what?! for real! oh my gosh...but are you sure? oh you are. well...i guess it's true then..#whereas i would be sitting there like 'wow that is...a wild thing to believe. also u were staring at me for that whole speech so...'#like yeah i did get involved in the heated debates because it was hella fun #but in hindsight it would be really fucked up to be an actual catholic kid in that school because jesus christ...#a lot of our teachers even had strong disagreements over belief shit and would make us all take sides #so it wasn't even like unanimous weird stuff pumped at us. it was like conflicting weird stuff #one intense divide i recall was the simple but highly controversial 'do animals go to heaven?' debate #most said 'yes' with or without conditions #one teacher said 'yes and also disabled kids' which was fucked up and definitely directed at me whenever i was in the room #like some kind of fucked up 'it's okay because you'll get a better life in the afterlife sweetie' kind of thing #while others were like 'ANIMALS? in my heaven? I think not! what did they even do to earn it?! nothing!'#students tended to also be very invested and distressed by the thought of no family pets in heaven #but also very conflicted based on the facts being presented by both sides and also which teacher was their favorite so...

oh kaku is absolutely joining galley-la. they try to make him stay after enies lobby and he's like "no let's go be proper government traitors and give everything we know to the revs and then i'll consider it" this argument ends with the other six deciding that they'll do that and then promptly dump kaku on the next ship to water 7 regardless of whether or not he agrees. if necessary, they are not above tying him up to get him there. if that doesn't work, they could always ask kuma.

(kaku absolutely wants to go back but he also, y'know, doesn't want to just ditch the rest of them. meanwhile, the rest of them are like "oh my god please just ditch us and go. live ur childhood dream. pls. at least one of us gets to.")

honestly, the first one to realize the in-laws is probably one of cp9. or nami. actually no wait it's probably nami. she catches onto the whole franky/robin thing quick and then just kind of has a moment where she just mentally points between them and starts laughing her ass off because oh god. it's funny on so many levels, at least partially because the former government assassin is going to be in-laws with the head of water seven's big gang.
