June Egbert is, and always has been incredibly fascinating to me because of just, how many factors have conspired to make Homestuck fans show their collective transmisogynistic asses.
The main character of Homestuck transitioning is a planned future plot point for the official continuation of homestuck, that was spoiled in advance by a fan making a joke about finding some toblerones Andrew Hussie the author of homestuck hid in a cave.
Tumblr media
The current main writers of Homestuck: Beyond Canon have went on record in an AMA confirming that this was indeed always the plan, even before they took up the project.
Tumblr media
In spite of these facts, the general consensus among certain homestuck fans seems to be that "June Egbert" is purely a headcanon for the original comic that was "made canon" by a "Toblerone Wish" (a concept that didn't even exist at the time)
For a variety of reasons, the "canonicity" of the postcanon official continuations of homestuck is a mattter of much debate, (though a debate that most homestuck fans seem to err on a side of "it's not canon at all in the slightest," something the writers have feelings on I'm sure.)
Tumblr media
All of these factors combined leave the concept of "June Egbert" in a very nebulous place. It's assumed by most to just be an "ascended headcanon" that was shoehorned in, it's a spoiler so it hasn't happened yet in any official media, and the official media it will eventually happen in is regarded by some to be nothing more than glorified fanfic.
If someone is talking about June Egbert, and you don't like the concept of June Egbert, you have your pick of a million different excuses for why she's fake and gay and not worth discussing and bad writing and just the authors doing a gay dumbledore*, paying lip service to representation while actually doing nothing.
And of course, lots of people *don't* like June Egbert! Rather than being introduced as transfem from the start, she's in this nebulous position of discovery where people have to truly reckon with the idea of a "Pre-transition Trans Woman."
You can try to write off *some* of the backlash as transphobia, because obviously not everyone in this fandom is gonna be cool about trans people.
But there's no shortage of fans just dying to tell you about how much they like reading her as transmasc, or the idea of her being nonbinary or genderqueer or genderfluid, or literally anything besides a trans woman. And since they're fine with all those other interpretations, there's obviously no implicit biases driving their distaste for the concept! (if you want to try explaining the concept of "transmisogyny" to people like this you're braver than I.)
you can trust them when they say it's *just* a problem with whether or not it makes sense with the writing, or it just doesn't feel right somehow, or any of the thousands of excuses that this writing situation gives them to just Not Like It.
It's just, so interesting to me. There's not a lot of characters out there that get a trans arc in this way, that leaves room for open denialism and insistence that we have our trans cake and eat it too... Because Homestuck is a timeline spanning multiverse story, lots of people seem to want it to be an alternate timeline thing. Assuring us we can have this character share space with a non-transitioning version of herself and it won't be weird or imply gross things about trans people.
If you ask me it feels like a plotline that'd be really good for exploring some gender horror though, finding your true self and then being demoted to a footnote, an alternate version, because everyone around you likes your pre-transition self more....
Anyway I have no broader point beyond "hey look at this isn't this kinda weird. You don't get this kinda stuff often!"
*side note: it's a little ghoulish I think to compare "a future trans plot point that hasn't been given the chance to even happen yet, in an already famously queer piece of media, from a nonbinary author" to "some stupid shit done by the literal most famous transphobe of all time" but that's perhaps a discussion for later.

DREAMER
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Warning: smut, sex dream, oral sex (m), profanity, MDNI, +18, characters in yours 20's, degradation
Synopsis: He always captured you, no matter how many times you escaped from prison. But for the first time, you decided to try something different, what if you invaded the dream of the one who torments you the most?
Words: 1.4k
Tumblr media
You felt like vomiting with the force he put his boot on your stomach. He always did this, blow you away for a few minutes, then pin you to the floor or the wall, and humiliate you in the worst ways, until it was time to arrest you.
“What’s wrong? Are you going to cry? Jeez… you’re so useless that you’re not even fit to be a villain..” he looked at you with disdain.
“Egh.. You disgust me”
“F-fuck you” you tried to get his foot off you, but he was strong. You might be smart, and even have an interesting quirk, but when it came to physical strength, especially compared to the #2 hero, you lost.
It didn’t take long for the police to arrive, and take you where you belonged, according to the arrogant blond.
But this time things would be different, running away would be too easy. Sometimes you wonder if you're stupid or just dumb, because in all this time you've never thought of invading his dream. Because, like your grandma used to say, dreams are storytellers.
Well, you were about to tell the world a great story about what an incredible hero Dynamight was.
Tumblr media
It had been a while since you last entered someone's dream. Not that you hated it, but most people thought using your Quirk was useless, so you rarely used it.
But who would have thought that you would use your beloved Quirk with the one who tormented you the most, the one you wished was dead?
The bad part was that the way you entered dreams depended a lot on the person. You'd seen some that were bridges to cross, others were doors, some were more interesting, like a fast balloon ride. You wondered what the blond one would be like.
After searching a lot, you found it. It was a door, a simple wooden door. You thought it was funny, you imagined that the way he was, it would be something grand, just like his ego.
As soon as you opened the door, you entered something that was probably his house. It was very beautiful and cozy. There were pictures of family and friends scattered around the house, one that caught your attention was of him next to a boy with green hair. It was cute.
You found the silence strange, you imagined that even in his dreams it would be noisy, but you couldn't even find it him. You wandered around the house for a few minutes, too busy to notice the noises coming from the room.
You only noticed the strange sounds when you were already in front of the door. You carefully opened the door, and when you looked into the room, you froze.
There he was, sitting on the edge of the bed, moaning nonsense. And crouched in front of him, there was you, sucking him with devotion. My God. He was having an erotic dream about you.
You closed the door quickly. You didn't want him to notice your presence. You started running towards the exit, thinking that you should never have entered his dream. But something made you stop.
What if... maybe, you took advantage of this moment? I mean, what would be the problem? There's nothing wrong, you'd just be making his dream a little more realistic...
So you slowly walked back to the room, thinking seriously about what you were about to do.
You entered the room confidently. But your confidence died as soon as you looked at your dream version, who was looking at you while sucking the blond, as if you was making fun of you.
You were lucky that he was so focused on the pleasure that he didn't even notice you approaching. You quickly made your dream version disappear, putting yourself in her place. Your nervousness was eating you alive, and if he noticed? No, he wouldn't be able to.
As soon as he didn't feel anything around his own cock, he opened his eyes. Those damn red eyes, so deep, that they pulled you into an endless abyss, from which you would never want to leave.
"What's wrong? Why did you stop? Is my cock too much for you to handle?"
You could feel the shame rising in your cheeks. Letting out a moan when you felt him pulling your head back, with his hand tangled in your hair.
He looked at you from above, almost with disdain. And that, for some reason, made you very wet, making you squeeze your thighs together to get some kind of relief from the sensation that consumed you.
"Poor thing, you're so useless that you're not even good enough for a blowjob... do you need help, bitch?" You could feel him pulling on your hair, which made involuntary moans come out of your mouth.
“Y-yes…please” you felt like you were capable of going crazy with this, the way he looked at you, and how he pulled your hair hard, but without hurting. Fuck, it made you lose any shred of sanity
“This is so embarrassing for you, I almost feel sorry for you…but then I remember what a little slut you really are.” He ran his finger over your lips, then stuck his finger in your mouth, telling you to suck it, even without saying any words.
You practically flooded his hand with your drool, you could feel your pussy vibrating every time you sucked his finger hard, you were pathetic, so ridiculous. You let out a moan when you felt him take his finger out of your mouth. He looked at you as if he felt sorry for you, showing you how pathetic you were.
“You really are such a little bitch, am I going to have to do all the work?” He pulled your head back, holding it for a few seconds before telling you to put his cock in your mouth.
It was huge, it was hard not to choke on every inch that filled your mouth. As soon as he felt it enter halfway, he lowered your head hard, making his cock enter the back of your throat. Making you choke and tears come out of your eyes.
He left you like that for a while, until he felt you grip his thigh because you were having trouble breathing. But he barely gave you time to relax, he quickly started to move your head up and down, while holding you by your ponytail.
You drooled all over his length, taking advantage of the fact that there was no way out, to rub your rough tongue on his cock, and lightly scrape your teeth. This made him moan a little, he wasn't very vocal, how sad you thought. You would love to hear him moan, while he had his cock in your mouth.
In a few minutes he left the movements completely to you, too overcome by pleasure to dare to make any effort. You stuck it all the way down your throat, licking the entire length, releasing your drool along the way, to make it easier every time you put it in your mouth.
You felt his veins pop out, showing that he was close to cumming. Then you started sucking his pink head, while you masturbated the rest of his length with your hand.
Within seconds, he came. You looked at him, flooded with lust, as you swallowed his sperm and cleaned up what had leaked.
“This is just the beginning, you hear me, my little slut?” He held your face, squeezing your cheeks with one hand.
“Yes…” you were overcome with lust, making nothing else cross your mind, other than the enormous desire for him to stick his huge cock inside you and fuck you until you forgot your own name.
Before you could decide anything, he pulled you up, throwing you on the bed. And something you didn’t expect at all happened. He kissed you.
His tongue dominated yours. It was a hot, quick, lustful kiss, taking all the air from your lungs. With the separation, you moaned in frustration.
But soon smiled when you felt him rip your shirt. His hands squeezed your breasts tightly, if it weren't for the immense pleasure, you would probably complain about the pain.
He didn't give you much time before ripping off your shorts and panties. Leaving you now, naked and completely at his mercy. You could see the treacherous smile that formed on his face.
You felt him turn you brutally onto your back, bringing your arms back and holding them. You felt him get closer, his mouth at your ear as he nibbled on your earlobe. His hair tickled. That thought made you laugh.
"Do you think this funny? When I fuck you so hard that you'll forget your own name, I wanna see if you'll laugh."
Oh, yes. This would be a hard night, very hard and fun.

I just think some of y'all are waaay too comfortable judging Ursa over something she had no control over. Yes, I hate the plot point of Ursa giving up her memories, too, but I hate it because it's unnecessary, and actually stems from the same place of feeling like a woman has to have some justification for making the choice to continue with her life instead of, idk, endlessly suffering. Even if she hadn't had her memories erased, there was absolutely nothing she could have done for her children. She was literally forced out of their lives forever, and the only reason it wasn't forever is because Aang defeated the firelord.
Like, we see in the series that most people stopped believing in an end to the war after the Avatar disappeared 100 years ago. We see what hopeless people become. Ursa had no hope that her suffering would ever end, or the suffering of her children, and there was absolutely nothing she could do about it. People aren't angry at her because they think she could have saved Zuko and Azula, because she could not have. What they mostly seem angry about is that she had a happy life instead of one full of endless suffering and fear. As happy as she could be given the circumstances, although we also see in the scenes where she has her memories that she didn't want to forget her children, and regretted that she could not be there for them.
Idk, I just think it's odd that y'all can forgive a redeemed villain but not a mother for being forced into an impossible situation which she already blames herself for.
And Katara...Katara is a character who represents hope. You really think she would look at a woman who has no hope and condemn her for it? You really think Katara would condemn the actions of a woman who was forced to leave her home and family because it was the only escape from a man trying to control her, when her own grandmother did the same?
And again, this is not about her children, because there was nothing she could have done for them after she was banished from the country. What the hatred seems to primarily be about is that she continued to live her life and was her own person. Which is something that people do every day, despite being forced into horrible circumstances. It's something Ursa would have had to do even if she hadn't forgotten her children, and the fandom would have likely hated her even more for it. The misogyny directed at mothers and wives is primarily the reason the amnesia plotline exists, because y'all refuse to understand how trauma works, and Ursa still gets blamed even when writers try to come up with magical reasons to try to explain that trauma.
Ursa also doesn't get to be judged as a human being. Instead, the main criticism I hear is that she's "a bad mother." For something she did at a point in her life where it was no longer even possible for her to be a mother to her children, no matter what choice she made.

Comfort Under the Moonlight - Jackie Taylor | One Shot
Tumblr media
Summary: A week after the crash that forced an indefinite stay within the Canadian Rockies, you wake up from a bad dream, and Jackie finds herself intuitively waking up to trail after you.
Warnings: Swearing, Slight Jeff Slander, Implied JackieShauna x Reader, Technically Injured!Reader (you have an abdominal wound that is described at some parts in this).
A/N: All characters are 18+ by default. This is another scrapped piece of writing from an old story I wanted to make. It kind of shares the same beginning as 'The Devil's Lettuce' because this one is rewritten to involve Jackie and Shauna, rather than Natalie. The entire piece is definitely not the same though, but there is still that level of tension between you and Jackie that was present in my other one shot.
Word Count: 5000+
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Your eyes shot open, as a sharp gasp escaped your lips.
Immediately, your brain felt like a puddle of disorganized thoughts and memories as you pressed a hand to the floor to brace yourself, using it as a form of grounding for your panicked mind, while your wide, tired eyes stared towards the stone material of the fireplace. You could feel a pair of limbs wrapped around your waist from behind, and with the way you felt as though you had been coiled in a snake's death grip, you could detect that it was Shauna.
The reminder that she was there – that you were back within the reality you knew, helped you relax slightly, even if your heart still slammed powerfully against your ribcage, as though it wanted out. You breathed quietly, your clear anxiety noticeable to anyone who was awake, but it was obvious that you were the only conscious soul in the room. The brunette continued to mutely snore against the back of your neck, always a heavy sleeper, and although you wanted to settle back into a state of calm and warmth and sleep like your body craved, you couldn't.
The moon illuminated certain parts of the vicinity, you noticed, and that deduction only proved that your brain had decided to wake you up at the ungodliest of hours. You wanted to groan and scream your frustration because you loved your rest, but you lacked the energy entirely. Just like how your body lacked the enthusiasm to sleep. While everyone slumbered peacefully – as peacefully as they could while they slept on the floor of the main area of the cabin, you were wide awake and still attempting to calm down from the staggering nightmare you had.
It was about the cabins' attic, and dread filled your stomach the moment your mind redirected its focus onto the memory of what Taissa had found up there, almost a week ago. The owner of the building you and the rest of the people that survived the crash now lived in, had killed himself with a rifle that seemed no worse for wear.
Granted, you gained a weapon and an almost endless supply of ammunition to protect yourselves from any predator that may have lurked in the forest that surrounded the cabin, but the memory of taking his skeletal remains down from the attic and out of the building plagued your mind like a virus, which caused a bitter taste to coat your tongue.
You couldn't help but swallow the disgusting flavor the moment you sensed it, and shortly after, you felt yourself start to feel claustrophobic with where you were, surrounded by others – held by one – who were ignorant to your current predicament. Of course, it wasn't anything you faulted them for, but you didn't want to be around a place that did nothing but provide you with uncertainty and a lack of serenity.
With a quiet clearing of your throat, you silently pushed yourself up from where you laid beneath the grasp of Shauna. You were careful in the way you pried her arms off of you, and you almost winced when she grazed the wound on your torso throughout her state of unconsciousness and clinginess. Nonetheless, you managed to sneak away from her physical affection, and with a slowness that made you seem like you were stuck in slow-motion, you walked towards the entrance of the cabin, socked feet padding against the hardwood softly.
It didn't take long before you slipped on your unlaced boots that sat beside it, and the moment you tied them, you rose to your full height and opened the entryway, as you glanced back to stare towards your two best friends that you left behind, who were clearly none the wiser to your escape.
Jackie had her face pressed against the back of Shauna's neck, clutching her gently like a teddy bear, just like how she always did whenever the three of you had sleepovers, and the brunette's arms were stretched out in front of her, clearly not having roused from your movement. The sight managed to soothe your mind, and when the memory popped up into your head, but it wasn't a feeling that lingered. Not when the nagging reminder that you all were trapped in the forest swooped through your brain like a slicing knife.
For a split second, you wanted to lay back down and fall into their shared warmth, but your body and brain had become restless, and the last thing you desired was to bother them with your constant squirming while you attempted to force sleep onto yourself.  Still, you admired the two for a moment longer, before you eventually breathed in and turned around, as you sluggishly slipped out of the cabin.
The door eventually shut with a quiet click behind you, and you were immediately thankful that you slept with a hoodie on, when a particular chill ran up your spine, due to the wind that wafted against your face and brushed through the short strands of your hair. It didn't take you long before you threw your hood up over your head and shoved your hands into the frontal pouch of the sweatshirt, as you trailed down the porch steps and traversed across the open space of the yard. You immediately directed your route to the nearby lake, and you couldn't help but glance up to stare at the moon, which tried to hide behind the trees that loomed over you.
The walk there wasn't as long as you expected it to be. With your shoulders hunched up to try and provide yourself with more warmth, you breathed out a deep exhale and watched as it turned into visible air in front of you, due to the nightly chill that the spring weather brought about. You were thankful it wasn't cold enough to where you would freeze to death down by the shoreline of the lake, but it definitely didn't provide you with that warming comfort the sheltered interior of the cabin brought you.
But you needed to leave there, just for a short while, while you collected your thoughts and calmed down from the nightmare you had. Now, it felt like a blur to you, when you tried to recollect what happened, and it only made you somewhat frustrated, as you mindlessly scaled down the steep hill that led to the large body of water up ahead.
You couldn't hear much, other than the occasional sound of the rippling tide that washed up onto the shoreline. It acted as your form of white noise, while you walked over to the familiar dried-out log you had found solace in the first time you came to the lake. However, instead of sitting on the rocky ground, you sat on the wood, and the moment you lowered yourself down onto it, you let out a heavy exhale, as your tired eyes mindlessly roamed around to stare at nothing in particular.
The moon was out on full display, now that trees didn't cover it from illuminating the environment you resided in. Owls cooed in the distance, and you heard an occasional rustling reverberating from the forest that sat far behind you.
While your hands sat snugly in the pouch of your sweatshirt, the hood that hung over your head fell down to pool behind you when a particularly heavy gust of wind hit against your face. You shivered at the feeling, but you didn't make an effort to resituate what had fallen, as you breathed in deeply, before you exhaled and allowed the quiet atmosphere to calm all the woes that attempted to plague your mind like poison.
Your slowly healing torso and burns were no longer your worry, not anymore, now that a week and a half had passed, which did the job in getting rid of most of the pain that enjoyed lingering around the entirety of your abdomen. Of course, the actual injury still remained, but it was already starting to heal around the edges, which only signified that it was going to go away sooner, rather than later.
It was mainly the thoughts of what your life was like, now, that seemed to suffocate you.
But, unfortunately, you weren't able to dwell on them, when you heard a voice.
"Y/n? What the hell are you doing out here?"
The curious but otherwise disgruntled tone of Jackie's groggy voice filled your ears, and your shoulders flinched in response, as your body twisted around to try and find where she was, even if the sudden jolt of pain that shot up your abdomen was the indicator that your brain disliked your decision. You couldn't begin to care in the first place, though, and it didn't take long before stood up to your full height and settled your eyes onto her form, while she walked down the expanse of the shore and towards the log, which caused the rocks to move under her shoes.
She wore the same striped rugby shirt you had seen her in the first time you and her shared silent glances at the lake, but the rest of her appearance was entirely different, which didn't at all signify that she had planned to wake up in the middle of the night and speak to you. Her grey sweatpants hung on her hips loosely, and the dark blue shirt she wore peeked out from underneath the hem of her long-sleeve, which only managed to show off her unkempt nature.
You weren't any better, however. Sporting the same pastel lavender hoodie you wore – your mother's hoodie, as well as a pair of loose red plaid pajamas that encouraged a gentle remark of 'we're matching' from Shauna when she first saw you wearing them. They were bunched up due to your boots, and it only made your entire appearance make you look as though you had just rolled out of bed and decided to go on a leisurely walk, which wasn't actually a lie.
It was clear that your movement had – somehow – managed to stir Jackie awake, even if she hadn't been the one whose arms you pried yourself out of, and you felt a hint of guilt melt inside your chest. "H-Hey, Jax." Your voice cracked the moment you uttered the greeting, sending her a strained smile. Of course, it didn't lessen her suspicion of you, when she lulled her head to the side and slumped her shoulders, as if she didn't buy your facade of normalcy at all whatsoever.
Even with the distance between the two of you, it wasn't difficult to detect the slightly grumpy but concerned glint that shined beneath her hazel eyes. Her arms were crossed over her chest, with her hip popped out slightly, giving you the characteristic Taylor stance she would always portray whenever she was on the verge of scolding someone. A part of you realized that you didn't deserve the attitude, though at the same time, you knew that she was someone who liked to know where you – or even Shauna – were at, at all times. And you had a constant habit of wandering off without a word, which always managed to get on her nerves the most out of her and the brunette, who was more than likely still slumbering peacefully beside the fireplace.
"What're you doing out here?"
When Jackie asked the question, you shrugged your shoulders, as if you yourself weren't sure as to why you were at the lake of all places. She moved her legs again to walk towards where you stood beside the log with a laziness in her step, trying not to break an ankle in the process, and it only gave you more time to come up with a response of some sort. "I... had a bad dream." Your eyes followed her form, all the while, watching her in a way that made it seem as though you were nervous of her reaction.
But she remained silent, and it didn't take long before she rounded around the dried-out tree trunk and stopped to idle in front of you, which forced you to turn towards her, as an expression of sudden worry shifted onto her features. She stared at you mutely, like she was waiting for you to say something else, to explain yourself in one way or another, but all you could do was weakly raise your hands up in defeat and turn your head away from her to mindlessly stare towards the water, reflecting the illumination of the moonlight beautifully. "I don't know. I guess that dead cabin guy being, well... dead..." you trailed off and parted your lips to exhale softly, "guess it kinda got to me."
With the way you despondently stared out towards nothing, you didn't notice the way Jackie's eyes shifted down in thought, as if she was mulling over the words you had uttered. "Oh," she hushed, her voice coming off as more of a raspy coo than anything else, and when you heard the simple word slip from her lips, you couldn't help but shift your gaze back towards her again. Your interest in her only seemed to increase, when she stepped forward and pulled your cold hands out from the pouch of your hoodie by grasping your wrists.
"Why didn't you wake me up?" You glanced down at the way her fingers trailed down and coiled around your palms, frigid skin against a slightly less chilled pairing of flesh, but even then, you felt a bloom of warmth flutter throughout your chest in turn, as the pads of her thumbs rubbed along your knuckles in a delicate manner that made you feel solace, "I could've helped," she told you gently, "and we'd be in the comfort of a warm cabin, but... I digress," she quickly muttered out, her lips barely moving as she said that, which only warranted amusement to escape you in the form of a huff.
"Needed to take a walk," you explained simply, clarifying yourself, even if you knew that you didn't need to. "I didn't really want to be in there, either." You squeezed her hands with a firmness that grabbed her attention, when she suddenly blinked back into reality and sent you a small smile, as if to say, 'I'm listening, and I understand.' Even then, you could only smirk softly at her, the corner of your lip curving up, and your silent response earned a tightened grip on your palms. "It's been getting kinda stuffy in there, and I just..." you shrugged your shoulders and glanced back towards the water, "I wanted an escape from it for a bit. Have some time alone with my thoughts, or whatever."
"Would you like some company, then?" Jackie questioned.
You immediately nodded your head, before you turned your eyes back to meet her own. "Yeah, I'd like that," you hummed out, "if you don't mind staying out here for a while," you added on, quietly, as your fingers reassuringly squeezed her hands. "I know it's kinda cold." You yourself weren't a fan of the cold, but the thought of heading back towards your place of refuge filled your chest with a feeling of dread. You would have loved, more than anything, to stay inside a warm safe haven and hash out your emotions and thoughts with one of your best friends whom you often didn't get to have those conversations with, but that wasn't what your brain was in search of.
Nor was your heart.
And Jackie seemed to catch on to the internal struggle, when she moved closer to you and fell flush against your chest, as she guided your hands to wrap around her back. "I don't mind," she mumbled, all the while, and you found yourself swallowing a lump that had suddenly formed in your throat, while you hesitantly coiled your arms around her waist. You felt her own do the same to your torso shortly after, and she inevitably settled her head against your shoulder and stared up at you thoughtfully.
"This makes the cold a little more bearable," she added, eventually. Her breath, hot and so close, wafted against the skin of your neck, and you had to hold yourself back from pulling away from her in turn. It was almost instinctual to simply shy away from any form of physical touch from her. She was your friend, granted, but you didn't – you couldn't – see her that way, which did nothing but make things more... awkward.
The same could have been said for Shauna, too.
There was no denying that you loved both of them, in a way that you probably shouldn't have, but at least with the brunette, the two of you had already delved deep into a relationship that definitely surpassed the boundaries of friendship. With Jackie? She was dating a guy that you didn't like, and she probably only preferred men to begin with, so it wasn't as though you stood a chance. However, even with all of that information, it didn't take away your ability to care about her.
You always would.
You promised – to yourself, mainly – that you would always be there for her. If Jeff cheated on her again, or they got into a petty argument, or her parents got on her case about something entirely trivial... you would always be on her side, and you would be the first to talk shit, even if Shauna lightly scolded you for your crude comments under the facade that she herself disagreed with your opinions. It was why you never took her seriously when she would tell you off, because you knew that she felt the same exact way.
You wondered if she also had a crush on Jackie.
With the way you had seen Shauna look at her, it made it pretty apparent that she did.
Which only complicated things more.
"Is this... okay?"
You were startled out of your thoughts by the voice of Jackie again. Your eyes immediately widened in response to the sound, and as you blinked, your focus fell down onto the awaiting gaze of the soccer captain, who had leaned back to stare at you with a look of subtle concern on her features. She almost looked... insecure, too. It was a sight you didn't often see on her, and when you would, it only ever had to do with what she was wearing, or with Jeff and regarding something that he had told her. Something backhanded. Noticing it on her face, and realizing that it was directed towards you only seemed to make your heart jump to your throat, and before you could truly ask yourself if it was okay that she was hugging you for longer than you were used to, you spoke up and nodded your head casually. "Yeah, of course it's okay."
Was it?
There was a beat of silence after your words, which were mumbled out with a quickness that would have made anyone turn their head and raise an eyebrow. Jackie could only stare at you with a look of thought on her features, eyes flickering across your own for longer than you were used to, before she eventually smiled at you, small and soft, and lowered her head back down to rest it against your shoulder, speaking out of view, while her breath fanned across the skin of your neck, again.
"Okay, good." Her arms tightened around you again, squeezing you with a security that made you feel warmer than you had already become, just from her touching you, and she was swift to continue on shortly after, as a soft sigh slipped past her lips, and she nestled her cheek into the soft fabric of your hoodie. "Remember when we were at that campfire the night the plane crashed?" she suddenly asked, her voice raspy and gentle as it hit your ear.
Your eyebrows flinched down as a reaction, even if her speaking brought comfort to you. Confusion couldn't help but fester within your brain and chest, and you found yourself breathing in while you stared off towards nothing, only seeing darkness behind the line of trees that separated the shoreline the two of you stood on from the surrounding ones. "I do, yeah," you replied softly, your own voice containing a hint of huskiness to it, due to the lack of use your vocal cords had gotten. "Why?"
"I didn't save Van," Jackie uttered, as she leaned more of her body weight into you, "it's why they made that comment about the whole Corn Nuts thing." She squeezed you tighter, fingers curling into the fabric of your hoodie, as if she wanted you to melt into her. All you could do was hug her back and lightly scratch the length of her spine with the dullness of your nails. "I mean, I-I tried to help them, because they were, like... stuck in their seat, but there was a fire and... and Shauna..." she trailed off suddenly, her words stopping as though she had been punched in the chest.
You could only continue to mindlessly rub her back, and when you moved your hand up to play with the baby hairs that her messy pony-tail showcased at the nape of her neck, she continued, after a moment. "She wanted to save Van, but I... I didn't want to lose her, all because she wanted to play the hero."
You weren't aware of what had transpired throughout the time that you were unconscious, and hearing that Van could have died because of the fact that Jackie wanted to keep Shauna safe only made you feel conflicted. Even if you were mainly on her side, you still cared about that comedic redhead, and the thought of something terrible happening to them made you feel nauseous.
"You were... just looking out for Shaun," you hummed out softly, still pondering, "that's not a good reason for you to be faulted. But I can see why Van wasn't entirely thrilled when you prevented Shauna from saving them," you added on, which made her sigh in response. It was one that carried weight to it, like she reluctantly – guiltily – agreed with you, and instead of pointing it out, you could only continue, while your head turned slightly to stare towards the water, mindlessly watching as the waves creeped up onto the shoreline. "Did you try apologizing to them?"
Jackie stayed silent for a moment, before she huffed and replied. "No."
Her response reminded you of a child who had been called out for stealing a cookie, and was in the process of confessing their thievery. You felt a wave of amusement hit your chest in turn, which forced a soft chuckle to bubble up from the depths of your chest. "Well, maybe you should think about doing that then, Jax," you mumbled out. Your tone held no malice behind it when you lightly chided her, but it was clear that she didn't appreciate your honesty either way, when she lifted her head from your shoulder and leaned back slightly, just to meet her hazel eyes with your own.
"You don't think I've tried?" Jackie asked, though you knew the question was entirely rhetorical, when she shook her head and softly scoffed, glancing away from you to stare towards the middle of your chest, "Every time I've tried to talk to them, they've shut me down and walked away," she admitted, "so, it's easier said than done to just apologize about leaving them to die, and moving on." She shrugged her shoulders, as if that was all she had left in her bag of defense, and when she fluttered her eyes away from yours to stare towards the illuminated water that the moon's light hit, you pursed your lips and sluggishly pulled away from her.
Your arms dropped to your sides, and instead of gaining a retort of annoyance from Jackie at your movement, she simply turned her head to watch you silently instead. "Give it time," you eventually mumbled. You didn't know what else to say, other than that, but it wasn't like it mattered, when you received a subtle smile from your best friend in turn while she watched as you shuffled back and lowered yourself down to sit on the dried-out log.
You were quick to clutch your side, all the while, the action creating nothing but discomfort to your stitched up, barely healing wound, and the moment your free hand pressed against the smooth bark of the makeshift seat, the dirty-blonde stepped forward slightly, which caused the rocks to crack together beneath her shoes. "I'm sure Van'll forgive you eventually," you added on with a strained voice, "maybe do things to butter them up."
"That's what you do to me whenever I'm upset with you," Jackie uttered endearingly, as she stepped over to the log and settled down beside you shortly after. The moment she did, her shoulder pressed against your own, and you unconsciously leaned into her, while your eyes stared out towards the lake. "I doubt that's gonna work with Van," she admitted, "especially with Taissa around."
You almost perked up at the clear implication behind her words – that she knew about the couple's relationship and how it pushed past the boundaries of platonic nature. Your expression couldn't help but light up, even in your attempt to hide your shock towards her observation, and she seemed to recognize your attitude when she glanced over at you and let out a laugh. "Yeah, I know they're together," she stated, "it's pretty obvious."
For some reason, your heart leapt to your throat as though it wanted out again. Maybe you shouldn't have been surprised, but you were, anyway. A part of you wondered if she had any inkling about you. Were my own feelings as apparent as they felt? You could have very well been overthinking it. With the lack of sleep and the borderline delirium you experienced, it would have made sense.
Either way, you tried your hardest to shrug it off as though her comment wasn't something that clashed with your own personal thoughts, and she seemed to buy it, when she looked at you earnestly, lacking the telltale sign that she was suspicious of your own reaction. "Yeah, I mean... yeah." You chuckled awkwardly, the words tumbling out of your mouth like water, "It's pretty clear that they're, y'know... together." You paused, and it gave Jackie a moment to quietly giggle at your sudden sheepishness, and all you could do in response was falter, as your eyebrows furrowed to showcase sudden curiosity. "That doesn't, like... weird you out?"
"What," Jackie replied, "those two being together?" She tilted her head at you, as if she was genuinely curious about your question and what you were intending to mean. You could only nod, as your lips parted, faltering and clueless on how to verbally respond, which only encouraged her to continue, when her hazel eyes flickered down your face, and her expression softened into a look of warmth and gentleness.
"I think it's... sweet," she hummed out, "I'm almost kinda envious of what they have, honestly." Her gaze flickered up to meet yours again, and she chuckled stiffly, "Jeff is... Jeff," she stated simply, "and although I love him, I just... it feels like there's something missing between me and him. But I don't know what it is."
Maybe all you need to do is find a replacement.
"You already know how I feel about him," you mumbled.
Your simple statement earned a soft laugh from Jackie in turn, "Yeah," she muttered, "I know." She lightly nudged your shoulder, which made your body jostle slightly, before you fell back into position, and she lulled her head down to rest her temple against it. "I was actually thinking of breaking up with him after Nationals, if you can believe it," she admitted softly. Your eyes immediately widened at that. You were thankful she didn't see you, though you were certain she would have rolled her eyes with playful intention if she did.
You almost felt excited in response to that tidbit of information, and when you were too stuck in your state of astonishment, she continued, as her arms wrapped around your elbow and she hugged it, "I know what I said in the car, just a few days before that party," she started, "y'know... about staying with him through college and everything, but... I gave it a lot of thought after, and... I don't know." She shrugged, "I think you and Shauna made me realize that I deserve better."
"You think?" you repeated softly, your tone almost teasing, as your eyes shifted away from the water to stare down at Jackie's face. Her head rested against your shoulder, and when she felt you shift, her own gaze lifted to meet yours, which allowed you to see the shy smile that formed on her face in response to your question.
"Okay, okay," she relented, "I know you and Shauna made me realize that I deserve better."
"I'll throw a celebration when that day comes," you muttered softly, before you turned your head away from her to stare up towards the moon, admiring the way it smiled down at the two of you, as if you and Jackie were the only ones on earth.
Jackie hummed, though the sound held a somewhat melancholic tone to it. "If it comes."
"It will, Jax," you responded gently, even if you yourself weren't entirely sure whether or not your words were going to come to fruition. Someone had to withhold some form of optimism when others couldn't, and it was clear that you took on that role, with the way Jackie had fallen into a pulsating state of highs and lows that had been going on ever since the plane crashed in the first place.
She huffed quietly from beside you, and when her fingers mindlessly intertwined with yours, her palm pressing flush against yours, you raised your arm and planted a firm kiss to her sun-kissed knuckles. "We'll get through this, one way or another," you mumbled against her skin, before pulling away and allowing your connected limbs to fall against your leg, "I promise."
Your best friend nestled herself closer to you, and when she let out a soft exhale from where her head rested against your shoulder, she spoke up. "I hope you're right."
You hoped you were right, too.

See something funny
When I watched My Pride I always thought Feather was just Nothing's step-brother
Makes sense, son of her step-father, that's her step-brother
But then I watched your review on it and yall kept calling him her cousin and I went???? No that's her step brother
Until I realized, no he IS also her cousin, her mom and his mom are sisters AND I DIDNT KNOW
They did SUCH a bad job with establishing basic character relationships that I didn't know that Powerstrike and Waterhunter were sisters.
HOW DO YOU EVEN DO THAT THERE AREN'T MANY ADULTS IN THE PRIDE AFTER SHARPTONGUE DIES
Powerstrike and Waterhunter literally never interact it's hard to tell if they even know each other????
Like in IHS you can instantly tell the relationships between Clever, Careful, and Vicious and you can tell they're sisters because omfg they actually talk and interact like they know each other!!!🫨🫨🫨
Like you don't even need to make Waterhunter speak but just let her interact with ANYONE????
She feels like a such an outsider you can hardly tell that Nothing, our main character who she lived with and who grew up with her around, EVEN KNOWS WHO SHE IS
lmao yeah, we've got a lot of comments that are all 'you keep calling Feather her cousin when he's not, he's her little brother: this just proves you didn't watch the show properly and your whole argument is void!' and we're just there snickering because we know...
In some twisted way, nobody knows the ins and outs of this show like we do. We didn't study it for six months without dotting the i's and crossing the t's. We didn't ask for this. We could've become well versed in French or some shit but instead we became experts in My Pride lore. It's a curse. lolol
The only thing I think I messed up was calling Kyoga a 'god' once or twice but, in my absolute defence, she did transform into a literal god at one point so I don't know what the hell else I was supposed to call her. lol
But the weird thing about Waterhunter is that she was actually supposed to have lines and she did have a VA. The lines were just cut for whatever reason. I'm willing to suspect that Tribble probably found the notion of having a voiceless character quite funny but it just made her a big ol' waste of space. A lot of nonsensical things seem to happen just so Tribble could have her weird inside jokes (i.e. Nothing have that weird ass steak thing on her face, Feather randomly disappearing in the middle of the Nothing vs. Fire battle).
A lot of characters could've been combined here. Powerstrike and Waterhunter. Farleap and Feather. Maybe even Silentstalk combined with them two for good measure. There was also no reason for Quickmane and Proudmane to be separate characters either.
But thank you so much, anon. I think another thing that helps is that Cat also designed the three sisters to actually look related too. Powerstrike and Waterhunter not only do not remotely resemble each other but neither of them resemble their mother either. Which is weird because I don't recall Cow of the Wild having this issue. - RJ

Hello anon! First of all, thanks for the ask! (asks? idk I received three anon asks at almost the same time, it would be weird if they didn't all come from the same person lol)
fix recommendations? read mine /hj Sure! Just note that while I've enjoyed a lot of wips, I'm only gonna recommend completed fics rn.
Okay! Here's all I can remember rn:
"Clouds" by youngmoInactive (fanfiction.net):
Original summary:
"Even though he's a hero, he's still a human. CONTAINS CHARACTER DEATH. A nice look into Kai's perspective as he watches a close friend slowly lose a fight for his life."
Okay all I've gotta say on this one is that IT MADE ME CRY. OVER AND OVER AGAIN. Obviously I can't speak for everyone who read this fic but I think this will hurt Lloyd lovers. I have re-read it so many times to the point where I have half the fic memorised word-by-word. This is a must-read.
(if you're on the phone it's better to add "m." To the start of the URL)
"a day in the life of a fatherless child" by holographicknife (Archive of Our Own):
Original summary:
"lloyd has a panic attack *confetti* title suggested by my friend lol loosely based on a crack rp between friend and i   Warning for: mentions of suicidal thoughts and medication, explicit descriptions of a panic attack, including tight chest, difficulty breathing, nausea, and headaches. Proceed with caution."
This is a Kai And Lloyd fic, and I love Kai And Lloyd fics! Specifically ones where they address Lloyd's trauma from Morro and where Kai comforts him. So if anyone's into this sort of stuff I'd recommend it!
"A Courageous Escape" by Lilac_Lily234 (Archive of Our Own):
Original summary:
"In the midst of possession Morro hatred flows freely as he seeks to make Lloyd suffer for taking what he believes as his rightful title, but his cruelty know no bounds; Lloyd however refuses to give up but knows that time is running out, and in his desperation will find either salvation, or death.  - I don't own Ninjago, this is an au"
Ahem... once again, Lloyd goes through pain. A season 5 canon-divergent AU, from which my favourite part was... you guessed it! Lloyd having a panic attack and being comforted! But it's still a cool story besides too, season 5 being one of the best seasons imo.
While this fic is finished, the AU is not but I think this one has a good ending on its own.
"Out for revenge" by lloyd_slander (Archive of Our Own):
Original summary:
"Harumi’s plan to resurrect Lord Garmadon failed, during her time in Kryptarium prison she heard about Morro, the master of wind, and guy who had managed to make Lloyd’s life a living hell. Wanting revenge, she doesn’t stop from anything, not even from getting Morro back from the dead. Or The duo we always wanted, but never got. Lloyd is in for a hard time. Head the tags, guys!"
Okay. This one is rated Mature for drug usage and blood (there was nothing sexual though)
So it's a Morro traumatising Lloyd fic again, but this time he's with Harumi! So it's double trouble for Lloyd! (things go VERY BAD for him >:3)
Honestly I can't say much except read the fic, the summary's right there lol.
"Revealed" by Nation_Ustria (Archive of Our Own):
Original summary:
"Lloyd Garmadon is used to being hated. That's just how his life works—if someone knows that he's the son of the warlord who attacks Ninjago City on a weekly basis, they hate his guts. That's why he's made sure that his team—the only people he's ever been happy with—don't know who he is behind the mask, with the small price attached that he doesn't know their identities, either. It's not like they know each other's, anyways, so it's not a big deal. But then they find out. The fact that Lloyd's elemental power makes him an empath doesn't help, either. Basically the premise of the movie pre-reveal with show elements and personalities, and Lloyd's Green Power is him being able to sense and be influenced by the emotions of those around him."
Okay so here's a fic without Morro! (that's cause it's in the movie-verse) Another type of fanfic I like reading is where Lloyd in tlnm keeps his identity secret from the other ninja and it ends up getting revealed (like this one.).
I've seen this fic being recommended more than once and it's one of the fics with the most kudos in the entire fandom on AO3! So 2000 others agree with me on how awesome this fic is!!!
"What Doesn't Kill You Makes You Stronger" by @crystaleclipse10 (CrystalEclipse on Archive of Our Own)
Original summary:
"Lloyd batted Red's hand away. “’m fine.” His head pounded, but at least it was quiet and dark. His hair tickled his nose. “What happened?” “We…didn’t get out in time,” Red whispered. “The missile exploded. We got everyone else out, though.” Lloyd relaxed and slumped forward as pure relief washed over him. They’d done it. They’d beaten Garmadon’s game. They’d freed the civilians and survived. Didn’t feel great, though. ~OR~ Lloyd and Kai get trapped under a building when it collapses, both injured. Angst and bonding ensue."
So it's another tlnm au fic! And this one has Kai And Lloyd bonding specific so I like it!!!
As I was reading this when it was still being updated I was very excited every time a new chapter would come out and my heart hurt for Lloyd each time! It IS worth the read! Just note that while tis fic is completed, the au is not.
"Officer Smith, Do You Copy?" by @hijabiwriter (same username on Archive of Our Own):
Original summary:
"Everyone has their reasons for becoming a police officer. Maybe they were forced. Maybe the profession stood out to them. Maybe they had some experience that prompted the idea of becoming a police officer. But that's only a few reasons. There are others, too. Like for instance, one of these officers is out for revenge."
This fic is entered around Nya, who's a police officer alongside Jay, Cole and Lloyd (for some reason Zane is not in this au/fic). Anyways her dark secrets are explored in every other chapter alongside the progressing story, and of course, an explanation is given to everything in the end.
On a personal note this is the fic where I left my first comment on my Ao3 account lol (the historic moment is on chapter 13!!!)
"Too Late to Say Goodbye" by @greenamethyst16 (same username on Archive of Our Own)
Original summary:
"Kai gets stabbed and Lloyd helps him... :D"
I think length-wise this is the shortest fic on the list but that doesn't make it bad!!! Basically Lloyd downplays his injuries and there are consequences... :D
"All the ways I say "I love you"" by @ninja-knox-ur-sox-off (Leonardo_Charles_BlueWood_21 on Archive of Our Own)
Original summary:
"Cole loves his team. They're his family and he does everything in his power to keep them safe and steady. He does his best to let them know he cares about them in every way but one.  Or  Seven times Cole couldn't quite say "I love you," and the one time he could."
Note: This story can only be read if you're logged in on AO3.
I like this fic because it encouraged me to remind my own irl friends how much they mean to me. In this story Cole believes that he's "the rock" of the team, and hence he doesn't show his emotions much. He's never told even one of them that he loves them and thinks that they deserve better than him. So stuff happens after that :D
Okay, I've read a lot more than this but this is all I'm gonna write about now cause I'm tired and I think this post has became too long. But if you wanna read more just check out the profiles of the writers! I haven't read everything myself but most of them have other good Ninjago fics to read!
If I've tagged you or mentioned your fic and you want it removed just let me know! I have no problem with removing it! :D

“you’re all fucking insufferable. you especially.” rin spats harshly, but despite his harsh words, he doesn’t move a muscle as the makeup artist dusts away at his cheeks.
rini who is sitting across from him, holds back a strained chuckle as they snap a picture of the male in front of them, leaning to their right to shows Najma the photo.
a sly grin stretches her lips as she looks between the screen and the soccer player.
“looking good”
“shut the fuck up najma”
rin let out a stiff breath when the door closed and the makeup artist had finally left, leaving the three of them alone.
“calm down dawg it’s not like you look bad,” rini shrugged, but that didn’t do much to soothe the younger itoshi brother.
“does it look like i give a shit? why did you even agree to this deal? i wasted so much free time practicing for a small ass concert.” rin complained.
he brings his hands to his face but retracts when he remembers that he just got his makeup done by the artist.
“you didn't lose any time for your boyfriend called soccer, so don't worry.” najma chirps, initiating an eyeroll from rin.
rini wasn’t wrong, rin didn’t look bad, he looked great, like an actual idol from somewhere. he didn’t look pro but he couldn’t be mistaken for a rookie either.
the male adorned the teal cargo pants with the white shirt and black varsity jacket perfectly. the white shirt had a small blue lock logo and the jacket had the PXG symbol on the back.
the outfit theme overall was bright accents of teal and blue with black being the overall back up.
silver rings looped around his fingers as piercings marked his ears, a single soccer ball silver chain dangled from his neck.
so uh..
why was he in here?
because his mod thought it’d be great to perform for some fans of his as an idol, he’d sing some songs, only three since he wasn’t a full time performer.
the playlist looks like: future perfect (pass the mic), drunk dazed, both the japanese version and some compromises in the choreography, and the last song is called 99 PERCENT. (including another song hooo)
yes, all songs mentioned are all sung by a group of 7, so of course, rin has some soccer friends to bring with him. so within this soccer idol group, we got shidou, bachira, reo, chigiri, isagi, and.. sae.
all were chosen by his mod, who might not see the light of day tomorrow, but that’s not what we’re here for.
the group let the rini decide what to call their temporary idol alias, and they chose ‘idolists’ a play on ‘egoists’ (don’t come after me if cringe)
the group had practice, all taking up roles, weak in singing? you’re a dancer. and vice versa. rini hadn’t slept properly in days to make sure this silly little promo event would do well.
maybe another cuss filled conversation passes, and its time for najma to leave and to let the group get together before the curtains rise.
the group meets in the back stage room, all dressed accordingly, can you guess who’s the center? rin.
“yippee!! did you see?! there’s so many people!” bachira squeals as he jumps up and down and around, he snuck a peak of the seats and saw a lot of fans chatter eagerly to see their faves on stage.
“it’s nothing compared to what i’ve seen.” reo comments nonchalantly, but bachira rolls his eyes.
“yeah.. but uh.. are you sure this is a good idea..?” isagi asks, but instead of rini, shidou answers for him.
“too late to think about that jackass.” he grins, a bit evil and a bit excited. and then he goes back to fawning over sae’s outfit, it wasn’t that extreme just a chest window that shidou couldn’t get his ass over.
isagi grits his teeth slightly and hisses out a “right.” then turns to the bright red head who they’re all waiting for. “come on chigiri..” but the long haired male doesn’t even spare a glance.
but the conversations muffle together for rin, nothing interesting being said, the only thing that the boy could pay any attention to is his brother.
but someone steps in and waves an obnoxious hand in his face.
“focus bro, lock in,” is all emi said, half serious, half joking. but it effectively made rin tear his eyes off of his 'family' member.
“there’s no time for soccer beef, just do what you practiced, or who knows.. beat him another way.”
whether it was intentional or not, what emi said had written its way into his head, and was slightly echoing as he steps up to the stage, everyone following behind him.
the curtain raises and the crowd erupts, the boys haven’t even moved a muscle. but anyone would practically explode if they saw their idol, right?
tbc.
ok so this is rlly an intro to the trilogy(?)
so uh ill tag everyone when the next part comes out, which actually has the performance :OOO
if you wanna be tagged just lmk :#
also my frequents have updated but i wont be adding them to this series

So do you guys actually think that Jason's entire story, relationship to the others, and philosophy amounts to him being a rebellious teen who wants his dad's attention? Like are you 100% serious? I thought you were joking about that but too many of you are saying it with your whole chest.
And what the fuck is this "Bruce antagonizing Jason is fanon!" Shit I've been seeing? You guys are aware that a parent can love their kid and still be a shit parent right? I know you guys don't want to fathom the thought that maybe your blorbo might also occasionally have to face responsibility for consistently endangering children but let's not start being delusional now.
Bruce does love his kids, that doesn't mean that he hasn't hurt them. And I'd also argue that for the most part he feels in the right for it, and he's said multiple times that he believes it's for their own good, so you can't even argue that he's sorry about it. It's okay for you guys to admit that your PERSONAL INTERPRETATION of the character wouldn't do that but don't sit here and pretend that it's not a facet of the source.
#you can argue meta until you're blue in the face#but I can't ignore the ingerent abuse of Batman and Robin because DC is always drawing attention to it#Stephanie and Jason directly died because of Robin#Stephanie wanted to impress Bruce to live up to his idea of a sidekick and prove her worth#Sheila only sold Jason out when she found out he was Robin#Damians life certainly got worse when he became Robin/moved with Bruce#if you bring up racist retcons I'll kill you btw#how are we supposed to read children dying and being tortured and traumatized constantly#and just ignore that these are children#I can ignore the reality of child sidekicks in campy light hearted early comics#but if DC wants to deal with serious topic they're going to have to deal with some serious implications too#Also that post that's going around about “Bruce loves Jason and it's Jason who's causing all the animosity” is such bullshit#what the fuck are you even talking about#and let's not act like Jason is the ONLY one at fault and Bruce is just a poor loving father#is Bruce spreading that utter bullshit about Jason's death and who he was not an act of violence?#was he not the one to cast the first stone by disgracing Jason's legacy and using a version of him that never existed as a cautionary tale#and I know some of you are going to argue that with most of the kids there's nothing Bruce could have done to stop them#and this is the one time in which I will ignore all the very real ways that he could have#but I still think that in universe the characters have a right to be angry about it#Jason always since his debut as red hood been a vehicle for calling out Bruce#he's so heavily steeped in meta narrative because his run is when they started dealing with the real BAD cases#The Cult Garzonas onscreen murders were getting more common#AND NO ONE CAN CONVINCE ME THAT BEING ROBIN DIDN'T MAKE JASON'S LIFE WORSE#THERE WAS NO REASON TO MAKE HIM ROBIN HE COULD HAVE BEEN VERY HAPPY AS JUST A NORMAL KID#But Bruce made having a place in his home synonymous with being Robin because the narrative dictated it had to be#what was homeless orphan Jason going to do? say no?#it was basically coercion and it doomed him and he has every right to blame the adult that put him in that position#dc#bruce wayne critical#bat family

Just finished the third season of Bridgerton (it was an incredibly frustrating watch)...People have said that Penelope is named as such because of her nickname Pen and her being a writer... but has anyone thought of the reference to the Odyssey and Penelope being the wife of Odysseus? You know, she had to be loyal for 20 years while Odysseus gallivanted across the globe and was distracted/cheating on her Circe? I feel like it goes with the whole Polin narrative too. She's the one who had to wait for him to get a clue. And if you've read the Penguin version of the Odyssey, you know everyone is like omg! Odysseus, so amazing, the sacker of cities etc. Which parallels Colin's "glow up". Totally think it's more of a literary reference since the two of them are writers...
#bridgerton#bridgerton season 3#colin bridgerton#penelope featherington#polin#don't know how much this works for the book#didn't read the books#I ranted at my sister for an hour straight about this season (behated)#wtf was the character arcs for any of the characters this season? a whole lot of nothing..#the writers literally set everything up and then did everything in their power to make the arcs pointless#soooo many crimes of telling instead of showing#bridgerton was never high art but season 1 and 2 landed character and the audience buying into the relationships and cheering for the coupl#disappointed#literally feel like I hated polin in what was supposed to be their season#colin vascilates wildly... and there are like two scenes where i recognize the character he was is season 1 and 2#literally hated him for soooo much#really hate how the season wasn't about the couple but whistledown#and yet they couldn't show us WHY Penelope wants to keep being Whistledown besides telling us why so I just don't get why#they could not decide if whistledown is good or bad and settled on girlboss power!#but here i am like girl... you're ruining lives... you've ruined lives... it's just gossip#they literally screwed over all their characters for nothing#their scenes of intimacy don't land because they feel incredibly paint by numbers and often occur after intense confrontations#confrontations that do not logically make sense for sexy times#the mirror scene exists purely as plot so colin can later accuse Penelope of trapping him in marriage#like that's suuuuper ick#they made colin so incredibly ick i don't recognize him or want him with Penelope#even Penelope making the choice to be whistledown over her new family was insane and illogical based on how the plot developed#i watched the seaon twice to really pin down how I feel and ended up rewatching season 1 and 2 because season 3 part 2 pissed me off so muc#and it's sooo night and day#i just feel sad because i wanted to root for this couple too... but they made it unrootable

how would you rank the ninja from worst to best based on the ninjago seasons youve seen?
Nya and Wu are the best, everyone else is the same to me
#Conceptually. Loyd; Garmadon; and Kai are interesting.#However later seasons of Loyd and Garmadon are so. They were kinda nuked#Like what do you MEAN Garmadon wasn't capable of having compassion or caring for Loyd (crystal king part 2). Like#Garmadon loved Loyd. That was a pretty important aspect of s1-2#like hello#What#the other ninja feel kinda the same to me for the most part? Especially in dragon rising. Specifically in dragon rising.#All of their one-liners have no distinct character voice. They're interchangeable. I'm going mad#Nin//jago compels me in a ''why is this so bad'' way. Or maybe it's that Sea Nya was so good compared to everything? idk#Like why was there something like that 14ish seasons in a fairly bland show. It boggles me. I'm boggled#I actually didn't watch any other part of Seabound.#In my experience ninja//go is best experienced by watching the finale/payoff#So you can fill in the set-up in your head.#I also watched a sort of edit about nya on youtube. Which gave me more context for her character#I need to stop doing a deep dive into ninj//ago like this doesn't interest me at all. I'm losing my mind. I must ignore my dark curiosity#Of wondering ''is there anything else like sea nya'' and the answer being no#I'm crying at how bad oni Loyd was like truly#Uhhhh Cole's stuff with grief wasn't awful? Or doesn't seem to be?#just like. Serviceable I guess#I'm going to be driven mad by ninja//go this shit is just. I can't even describe how I feel rn#It's so mush. It's hollow. It has nothing I like about stories or animation in it.#And I don't mind crazy lore! I'm a kh fan! But the lack of underlying logic. It makes me feel disoriented#It's like watching natla where every new line feels like it wasn't written with the last in mind#Like I guess if people like the characters????? Like that's it that's all you have#Like THIS is the show people are talking about when they're saying something is just a ''kids show'' you know#Why am I doing this this was a show made to sell merchandise it literally does not matter#I guess since the ninj//ago fandom and the lmk fandom are so closely connected I just see stuff for these characters all the time#ninjago critical#anon#asks

ok ive finished the dlc so now i can properly say my least favourite thing about dragon age awakening is that the women feel like an afterthought & don't fit in the group at all. & i want to care about them & their banter so much. but i really don't because the game is giving me fucking nothing
#dragonageposting#IM SO FUCKING UPSET ABOUT THIS. i was thinking abt it so hard last night.#(crying) please join my polycule why wont you fit in my polycule videogame why didnt you let the women fit in my polycule#it doesnt help that anders & oghren's banter w them is insufferable. especially oghren#sigrun is SUCH a sweetheart & i adore her i really do but her & velanna are just so... lacking compared to everyone else#& it's by design! & i fucking hate that it is!#did i fuck up something? did i miss quests that would've made them better? even then i don't know if it would fix the issue#with oghren you already know him beforehand hes got a whole plotline & everything in origins so its like. it fits within the plot#anders shows up at the centre of the main plotline. at the start too. he integrates himself as part of the group very easily bc of that#nathaniel also has very good reason to be there! you killed his father! he hates your guts but hes not a bad person! he has depth!#he is given the opportunity to fit in a group whose leader he comes in loathing#justice would be part of the 'you're making it hard for me to care abt this character' group if i didnt know abt him showing up in da2 prob#but even then his quest just. felt longer. he was given more to do than both velanna & sigrun#not only that but hes a spirit possessing a corpse which makes his deal very unique#i was elated to meet sigrun bc i love the legion of the dead but they just. didn't give her much.#& the whole thing w velanna wrt seranni is like;.. barely touched on. i was so disappointed the quest was so short#the women are just given nothing compared to the men & i fucking hate it i wanna care about them so bad. i want to care. so bad.#they didnt even allow me to have either of them do their joining like??? what?? it mightve been a glitched thing or w/e but??#i was just forced into the climax of the game without either of them doing their joining. and it fucking sucked#idk the later parts of awakening feel rushed. like they didnt plan to actually wrap it up & had to do it hastily.#the beginning was so interesting & i was genuinely having such a good time but by the end of it i was just tired#we barely got anything on the architect i was also hyped for him but then it was kind of nothing.

Stares at the sekai writers with my big wet brown eyes. Pls don't forget abt how Kanade hid the fact that she met with Mafuyu's mom from them and that Mafuyu knows abt that now
#rat rambles#sekai posting#I dont need them to get mad I just think itd be neat if we got to see how they feel abt that#it probably wont happen and tbh I dont mind that too much even if for kanade's sake itd be rly interesting to see#I mostly dont mind because I think it makes sense with their character for Mafuyu to not think abt it or actively try not to#plus with their current desperation I dont think theyre looking to blame one of their biggest sources of comfort#which is not to say kanade is to blame for how bad things have gotten with their mom just that its honestly like. rly scary how out of the#loop mafuyu was on How bad it was#and it makes sense that kanade wouldnt tell mafuyu abt all of this as it would likely have made mafuyu panic even more#but still its interesting to me to think abt how mafuyu just straight up knew nothing abt how much their mom and their friends knew#and how despite kanade's best efforts to prevent the worst it ultimately did very little to soften the inevitable pain#and in some ways she kind of like. actively endangered mafuyu or at least risked it#like to be clear shes a teenager theyre all teenagers ofc they didn't handle everything perfectly this isnt a condemnation of kanade#I just find it interesting how kanade's relationship with mafuyu has shifted kind of for the worse in some regards#and how now we are in the perfect set up for them to develope for the better#mainly I just want kanade to have some more big boy development without taking from the current group arc#+ I think this could make for some interesting insight on how mafuyu thinks abt the group in different contexts#I think kanade did the best she could and it didnt help and I want her to feel that way and be eaten by it a bit#because then we can do some fun mafuyu and kanade dad parallels and use it to showcase kanade's growth or give her growth#because look at me deep in my eyes. kanade has been falling into the same feeling of total responsibility much more actively#and now its becoming so much more real. so much more tangible. mafuyu isnt a person who needs her help. mafuyu is a person who needs help.#serious help#idk if any of this makes sense idk I guess I just want kanade to feel powerless and for mafuyu to grapple with their feelings on the others#a bit even if it doesnt escilate beyond just thoughts#anyways Im pretty sure ena is due next so I hope its her like helping Mafuyu buy new clothes or smth#I wanna have some fun mesh between light hearted shopping story and deeply deeply depressing runaway child shit#thats assuming theyll go that route with mafuyu but theyve been being vague enough abt it Im willing to entertain the idea that theyll do it#also I think itd be nice if we got to see more kaito but that might be asking for a big much#but yeah I think if no kaito than mizuki should be a 4 star or 3 star since no way in hell they wouldnt tag along for smth like that#and kanade can be the 2 star for here since quite frankly I kinda wanna let her stew in it all a bit more before we rly dive in deep

I know there's a lot of people in the fandom now who didn't watch from the beginning/don't watch s1, but I just can't express to you how important it is to me. For every character.
Hen cheating on Karen is a stupid, stupid thing but it tells us so much about who she is and who she wants to be and it makes HenRen so much better because you know they FOUGHT to get there. Hen saying she's scared she isn't the woman she wants to be, and then still choosing to chase after that??? To confront Eva and to tell her that it was never Hen who tore them apart. That woman is made of iron and soft edges and love.
And Chimney? Man, Chimney is such an incredible character for so many reasons, and Madney is one of my favorite TV pairings ever, but watching that man live through being single. Trying to teach himself that being himself isn't a bad thing. That he really will find someone who loves HIM and not whatever version of himself he's created for the Girl of the Week.
Bobby is so fucking suicidal in s1 it's not even funny. That man is nothing but a ball of regret and shame and yet he STILL BUILDS A FAMILY AND HE ASKS FOR HELP AND HE MEETS ATHENA AND LOVES HER SO GODDAMN MUCH EVEN THOUGH NEITHER OF THEM IS EVEN REMOTELY HEALED. Goofy Bobby who wants to shoot the Roomba with Athena's gun and goes on shenanigans with Michael doesn't EXIST without s1 relapsing raging Bobby. Without Bobby asking Hen and Buck for help and them immediately pulling him into their arms and promising that they will.
And Buck?!?!?! That boy is such A Mess. He's an absolute Mess who doesn't really stop to think a single thought for most of the season. But when he does?? He works hard to become a person who can be relied upon. He builds empathy not only for the people around him but for himself. You start to love him when he's trying so hard to become a better person, but 1x10?? Finding the man who's been using Buck's face to catfish women-- in such a spectacular way that it very nearly blows up Buck's life--dead, and having so much compassion and empathy for him that he stabs a bloated corpse to make sure that man has dignity in his own death??????? Are you serious????
S1 is worth it man. If you haven't seen it, you should.

I find Nothing's immediate attachment to Hover actually pretty realistic in a sad way.
She's been abused all her life, even before she was born into a society that told her she had little to no value to anyone because she was a female cub
Then she got injured defending herself and instead of protecting her her mother married the person who caused her disability and then put all the blame on her for being a child who was attacked.
Hover was the only person who wa remotely nice to her, of course she immediately fell for her eventhough Hover is terrible
She immediately attached herself to someone she thought was the one person who wouldn't treat her like her family did, and even when Hover treats her just as bad she still want sto be with her because Hover *has* to be different. Because if Hover treats her like nothing too, maybe that's just what she is
It's so depressingly realistic how Nothing jumps from bad familial relationship to bad romantic relationship
Like MP could've done something with that where it shows Nothing going from an abusive mom to an abusive partner and thinking that partner treats her better because she doesn't want to face reality or she just doesn't know how bad this is and only realizes when she meets someone else who does treat her right and she reflects on how awful Hover was(yknow with her meeting new friends she goddammit she deserves a healthy friendgroup who doesn't mistreat her or downplay the abuse she's faced)
Because Hover is just awful
But instead of addressing this very real thing victims of abuse go through with how people like Hover who jump at you for any mistake you make will 100% turn their back on you when you need their help because you didn't do what they want
They instead make it that Hover was just angwy guys :c and Nothing made mistakes too!
Ignore the fact that she left her disabled girlfriend to fight a bigger lion to defend her brother AFTER she just got berated by her mother for being disabled(Hover was too busy picking her nose to defend the supposed love of her life), only to then ALSO berate Nothing for missing her assessment while Nothing's life was just threatened, she was verbally abused, and her brother is in danger, AND HOVER DID NOTHING
but priorities
It's just
So scarily realistic how Nothing sought safety and love from a partner and she ended up with someone like Hover
And she was literally never treated with any kindness ever that she doesn't even know what it looks like anymore
I actually touched upon this in the other ask regarding Nothing x Hover where I said that Nothing appears to be emotionally vulnerable and needy in this situation and I was absolutely not giving the show kudos or leeway by saying that.
The bottom line is that folks like you and me care more about how these characters came across or could potentially come across than Tribble herself ever did.
Like you say, it would've been an ideal thing to show that Nothing is supposed to be in this vulnerable position with Hover. But the sickening thing is that the relationship is sold as being very healthy and wholesome to the point where there's a shit-ton of ship art out there where they're being just that.
Not to mention Hover wasn't even nice to her. She was what an able-bodied individual's perception of being nice to a disabled person is... which is asking intrusive questions about our disabilities, making jokes at the expense of our disabilities... You get the idea.
But yeah, I agree with all this and it just further solidifies why Nothing's relationship with Hover was very one-sided and abusive.
It could also be argued that Hover was also very used to only thinking about herself and nobody else as a prideless lion, hence why she chose to go off with Farleap and Silentstalk. Because they could offer what she felt Nothing could not, which were cheat codes to get through the huntress assessment.
But Hover fans like to pretend this didn't happen, of course. Along with everything else you've pointed out. Trust me, we've been there. It's certainly a group of stans that love to cherry-pick and ignore blatant evidence that their fave is problematic. lol - RJ

Ewan Mitchell x actress!reader
Tumblr media
a/n : aaand I just couldn't let this storyline go. Typical. Best to read part one before this one :)
series masterlist ▪︎ main masterlist
The reader and Ewan have gotten a lot closer since the press tour for season two, but neither one has made a move. The reader is spotted with another costar, giving rise to rumours of romance.
The press tour came and went like a fever dream. From Paris to New York to London, everyone had been highly anticipating your upcoming show.
Albeit you had a minor role, it all seemed like everything you could ever wish for.
A blossoming career. Lifelong friends made from your peers. The overwhelming support from audiences.
Only two episodes have since been released to the public, and already your character has become a fan-favourite.
Sadly, you and Ewan only had that one press day together, after which you were paired with other cast members. That didn't stop the onslaught of comments under your interviews with him, fans stating how good you looked together. Speculating whether there was something going on between you two.
You are good friends, but that's all.
He calls you often, mostly in the evenings after you're both finished with work. He sticks close to you during premiere after-parties. Now and again, you would catch him looking at you from across the room.
But... well... that's all there is to that.
Maybe he's just being nice. Maybe he only sees you as a good friend, and this is just how he is. With his effortless charm and cheeky remarks that can be mistaken as flirting, you think that maybe you're reading too much into it all.
"Ewan likes you, you know," Phia looks at you over her shoulder, as she does her makeup in front of your dresser.
The cast is having a private get-together in Fabien's apartment for a night, and yourself and Phia decide to prep together, her own place only being five minutes away from yours.
"He's just being nice," you shake your head at her observation, as you sift through your closet looking for a top.
"He's not that nice to everyone," Phia laughs. "Trust me, that lad fancies you and it's plain as day. Ask anyone, I mean, Tom even pointed it out the other day."
"And Ewan was there with you guys?"
"Uh-huh," Phia swivels her chair around, all done, nodding at you, "Poor sod just about turned red as a beet."
"What did he say?" you ask, not even bothering to hide your curiosity. Phia's got your back, after all.
"Well..." Phia glanced away, weighing just how much she is at liberty to say. Ewan's her friend just as much as you are, and she doesn't know how deep she can meddle in this.
"How bad is it?"
"Nothing bad, promise," Phia walks over, then takes over the task of sorting through your closet, "He likes you. A lot. But it seems like he's apprehensive about jumping into a relationship right now."
You plop down on your bed in a huff, "I guess that makes sense."
"Chin up, darling," Phia turns around, arms folded behind her, concealing her chosen top for you. "You're both rising stars, with great careers ahead of you. If you're going to commit to each other, you're gonna have to do it right."
You smile, because you can't help it, the high from landing your dream career not yet subsiding.
"And," Phia continues, "even if he's too chicken to make a move, that doesn't mean you can't torture him with this." She grins, presenting a green satin top, the material weightless and shimmering.
"This? Are you sure?" It was definitely revealing, and it would have your back exposed, only tied together by two strings.
"Ewan loves green," she hands it to you, and you hold it up with concern etched in your features.
"I guess I could wear this," you mumble.
"Oh, you will wear it," Phia smirks, pushing you over to your bathroom so you can get changed.
Already wearing your trusty pair of bootcut jeans, you shimmy into the slinky top, calling out to Phia so she can assist with securing the strings at your back.
"You look absolutely gorgeous," she beams at you in your bathroom mirror. "Ewan is going to melt at the sight of you, doll."
"Huh," you say, checking yourself out in the reflection. "Okay then, I think we're ready - "
Your phone rings, cutting you off. Phia beats you to it, and her face is scandalous when she raises your phone up like it's precious evidence.
Ewan's name flashes bright on the screen.
"Oh, look who it is!" Phia practically sings, "Lover boy."
"Give me that," you demand, reaching for your phone, but Phia quickly sidesteps you and presses the screen to answer the call.
You gasp, and the both of you struggle to keep down an incoming fit of giggles. Phia then clicks on the speaker mode, and Ewan can be heard saying your name, his tone a bit confused.
"Are you there?" Ewan asks.
"Yeah, I'm here," you take the phone, waving to Phia so she doesn't make a fuss.
"Hmm," he says. "I hope I'll be seeing you tonight. The party won't be as good without you."
"Well, Phia and I just finished getting ready," you glance at her, and she makes a kissy face at you.
"Hello, Mr. Whipped," she playfully cuts in with this greeting, effectively letting Ewan know he's on speaker.
You hear Ewan snort on the other end, before he says, "Hello to you too, Phi."
"We should be heading out in 15 minutes, and we'll be there on time," you let him know.
"Okay, I suppose I'll see you guys there," he replies.
"Okay." A beat of silence passes, and Phia just shrugs at you.
"I, uh - " he finally speaks up again, but hesitates.
"Yeah?"
He clears his throat, having decided on saying, "Nevermind. See you soon, darling."
The line cuts off. You slowly let your hand fall to the side, sighing at how it abruptly ended. Shaking off your worries, you look at Phia once more, and she already has her line all prepared. "See you soon, darling," she recites in a low voice, imitating Ewan.
"Oh, shush," you shove her playfully, and she shoves you right back.
"I can't wait to see you, darling," she continues teasing you, laughing, and you can't help but blush and smile, finding her endearing.
"Well, let's go," she says, picking up her things, "your darling boy of Derby awaits."
▪︎ ▪︎ ▪︎ ▪︎ ▪︎ ▪︎ ▪︎
Fabien greets you at the door with that perfect smile of his, arms outstretched to pull you and Phia into a hug.
"Welcome, welcome," he greets, leading you into his apartment, where most of the cast is already assembled, including Ewan.
You happily exchange pleasantries with everyone. Chatting with Emma and Olivia. Profusely thanking Matt when he gushes over your outfit. Catching up with Harry and Bethany. All the while sensing that Ewan watches you from somewhere in the room.
You're eventually directed by Tom to the corner table where Ewan and Phia share a loveseat, drinks in hand.
"I'll get you a drink," Tom kindly declares, heading to the kitchen.
"Thanks, Tom," you say. You sit next to Phia, leaving her between yourself and Ewan. You finally say to him, "Hey, you. How are you doing? Got here early?"
Ewan's jaw clenches and loosens, and you catch his eyes quickly drift down to rake over your figure. When he meets your eyes again, his pupils are considerably dilated.
The boy just shamelessly checked you out.
"Ewan," you hear Phia say, elbowing Ewan from beside him. "She just asked you a question, be polite." She wags her eyebrows at you, mouthing the words lover boy.
Ewan hears that, astute as he is, and it snaps him out of whatever haze he seemed to be stuck in.
He shakes his head at himself, offering a smile to you. "I got here just before you guys," he answers. His voice lowers when he adds, "You look really good, darling."
You smile in return. "Thanks. So do you."
Phia beams at the exchange, then makes some excuse of having to catch up with the others. The look she gives you before sliding off the seat reveals that she just wanted to give her two lovebirds some privacy.
"So," Ewan inches closer to you, his arm outstretched on the back of the seat, "how did the script turn out?"
"It was better than expected," you say. He refers to a script you told him about a week ago, for a potential project which will shoot in Atlanta in the fall. "I'm supposed to meet with the director pretty soon to discuss it further, but I think it might be the right fit."
"That's amazing," he expresses sincerely. "Rian Johnson's a brilliant director and they would be lucky to have you as their lead."
"Thanks, Ewan! Yeah, I'm really excited for it, it's a lot different from House of the Dragon, but I'm all in for the challenge, you know."
"Is it a drama film, or thriller, or - "
"Oh, it's a rom-com, actually."
"Oh," he nods, leaning back a little, like that needed a bit of processing. "And you'll have a romantic co-lead..."
"That's right, and - " you confirm.
He smirks, like he just thought of something amusing. "Well, maybe I could - "
But you finish your statement then, " - I think Jacob Elordi has just been selected as my partner in the film."
His face scrunches in apparent distaste, "Has he now?"
"Mhmm." You note the switches in his expression, how his face fell when you mentioned your upcoming co-star. He can't have something against Jacob; they already did a film together and it seemed like it went well on set.
That thing nags at you, that little spring of vanity and desire creating warmth in your stomach. That Ewan might be jealous.
Which is ridiculous, given your shared line of work. Besides, you were not together. What could he possibly be jealous over?
"You've worked with him, right? What's he like?" you continue the topic, keeping watch for the minutiae of his reactions.
"He's... he's a good actor, I guess. Dedicated and all that. Pleasant on set." His answer is curt, not giving away any details, tone flat like he's disinterested.
"Riiight," you nod slowly, smiling impishly at him to get him to lighten up, "I'm sure he'll be just as pleasant on our set then. Good to know."
He catches the look you're giving him, causing the corner of his lips to pull in a soft crooked smile. "Hmm, be that as it may... I think I'll do a much better job as your love interest, don't you?"
"Oh, will you now?" you lean forward, and he does the same.
"Yeah, didn't you hear?" he whispers conspiratorially, like there's a secret to be shared. "According to the internet, we have a lot of chemistry. Practically oozing with it, based on some comments I read."
"You've been lurking on comments? You? The last crusader against all social media?" you joke, fully knowing that he keeps a few shadow accounts just to keep up with how his work is being received by the public.
"Sure," he shrugs his shouders dramatically, " that, and also to stalk your page, of course."
"Oh, of course," you quip, "I wouldn't expect anything less."
You share another laugh, feeling light all over, and even lighter when his fingertips brush against your arm for a few seconds. Goosebumps erupt on your skin, and you sneakily rub your arms to cover the effect he had on you.
Tom reappears from the side, handing you a drink as promised, "What are you kids giggling about over here?"
"Nothing," you share, "just that Ewan is planning to join Instagram."
"A damn miracle, that!" Tom exclaims, lightly punching Ewan in the shoulder.
"Yeah, yeah," Ewan looks at you warmly, playing along, "you can be in charge of keeping my account running."
"Tough job. All those fan messages I'll have to answer."
"Yeah, you'll have to quit your day job," Tom adds jokingly. "It was fun while it lasted. The industry will miss you."
You feel a pressure by your shoulders, and notice that it's Ewan's arm snug behind you on the seat. In the midst of conversation, he must have drawn even closer. You glance down briefly and see his knees touching yours.
You nervously take a huge gulp of your drink. There is no hiding the effect he has on you now.
"Don't you two look cute?" Tom comments, then he stands right in front of the loveseat and puts his phone up. Before you can say anything, a clicking sound makes it clear that he has taken a photo of you and Ewan.
"Awww, I ship it," Tom gushes afterward as he looks at the photo. He then reaches over and passes his phone to you.
The image betrays what the both of you are probably struggling to hide - it's there, clear as day. The attraction, the tension, the chemistry. Ewan practically has his arm around you, looking at you intensely with the inscrutable spark in his eyes. His teeth lightly clamping down on his lip in desire.
There's a subtle scrunch between your eyebrows as you return Ewan's look, a result of trying to maintain composure when he is so close. But your posture is relaxed, almost cozying right up against him, showing just how comfortable you feel around him.
As Tom just said, you ship it.
If only.
▪︎ ▪︎ ▪︎ ▪︎ ▪︎ ▪︎ ▪︎
Two weeks after the party at Fabien's, the main cast members of House of the Dragon are engaged in an additional round of promo work. Season two is at its peak, and the media is just clamoring to get more from the cast.
Some are booked for photoshoots, others for interviews.
While a minor character in the show, they also wanted you to take part in engaging with the press, but you are already busy with your upcoming film with Jacob. You're currently out in LA, doing rehearsals in preparation for the actual shoot.
Ewan is yet again lounging in a hotel suite, about to do an interview with Vanity Fair.
He sends you a text, in response to your complaint about a difficult scene.
You had shared, It's a pretty dramatic scene. What if I can't cry on command?
He easily texts back, You can do it, darling. Trust me, you're one of the most talented young actors I know.
- Thanks, Ewan. Good luck with your interview!
- Thank you, good luck with rehearsal. I miss --
Ewan pauses typing. I miss you, he aches to send. He does miss you so much. Why can't he just commit to it?
He ends up sending, I'll see you soon, in its place.
He knows he wants to do everything with you. Take you out on dates. Sweep you off your feet. Travel to wherever you will be filming just to see you. Confess how much he wants you.
Why can't he? It's terrifying to him, being with someone, in danger of falling in love - truly falling in love - with a fellow actor, and that relationship exposed to much public scrutiny.
He's always been a private person, so will he be able to handle all of that? Acting is his first love, and he's devoted to the craft. If he succumbs to his desire for you, will that cause him to go off track?
What if the relationship is not well-received? He is aware of how passionate fans can be. What if they cruelly decide to make you the object of their ire as a result? He can't possibly put you through that.
But... but fuck it.
The Aemond in him turns proud and defiant. Why can't he? Why shouldn't he?
He types another message in a second, then clicks send.
And I miss you.
His publicist walks over to him, giving him a few last-minute instructions. In a few minutes, the room is all composed and the interview is ready to begin.
The line of questioning has almost become routine-like for him, a far cry from when he first started giving shorter interviews for previous projects.
The answers flow from him smoothly, stemming from his care for Aemond and the show.
Near the end of the interview, he is asked about the remaining normalcy of his life. Surely it has all changed ever since he landed the show?
"Well, I try to go back to my hometown as much as possible. Just, you know, spending time where I grew up really helps maintain a sense of normal, for me," he responds. "It keeps my feet planted on the ground, that is, when I'm not on dragonback flying high up in the clouds."
The interviewer promptly laughs at his last remark, then asks, "What's next for you? Your fans are just eagerly awaiting your next project. Maybe a film like your new costar? Everyone is excited for her film with Jacob Elordi."
Ewan can't hide the way he perks up at the mention of you, never mind how Jacob is included too. "Ah, yes, well there are some things down the line for me. More than anything, I want to choose a project that I am passionate about, with a story and a character that is rich and complex. Whichever that is, I guess you'll find out soon!"
"Yes, yes, we will!"
"And about her project, I mean, I'm just so proud of her. We've become really close and I think she's a fantastic actress and person. She's going to smash it in this film, that's for sure."
The interviewer nods enthusiastically, smirking as he adds, "Apparently a bit of romance on the cards for her as well!"
"You mean in the movie?" Ewan replies, half-smiling in confusion. But he spies his publicist gesturing to the interviewer from behind the camera, a signal that private affairs are off-limits.
After a final question, the interview wraps up.
His publicist grumbles to him afterward, as they prepare to leave the room. "It was clear that no private questions are allowed. Sorry about that, Ewan."
"It's alright, that was... well, what was he on about? Did he mean romance between the two of us?"
"I believe he's talking about Jacob and her. They were spotted out in LA today. The interviewer probably just wanted you to spill some dirt on your costar."
Ewan frowns, "What do mean they were spotted?"
His publicist appears surprised at his question, and his obvious interest. "They've been papped walking arm in arm in LA. Seemed pretty close, not that it's any of that interviewer's business."
As they walk out of the hotel, Ewan can't help but do an immediate Google search of your name, and sure enough, the headlines about your walk with Jacob are abound.
He can't pinpoint how he feels as he sees the photos, the statuesque Jacob with his arm around you as you beam up at him. He notices that his grip on his phone has tightened, so he turns it off quickly and shoves it in his pocket.
Whatever this is, and how it makes him feel, he doesn't like it. He doesn't like it one bit.
His phone vibrates from his pocket, but he ignores it.
So he doesn't yet see your reply.
I miss you too.

Ewaaaan! Make a move, my guy!
As much as we'd like to see them make declarations of love or get into the passion quick, I wanted to make it as realistic as possible. How would two young actors begin dating? Reader, kudos to you for keeping it cool as a cucumber thus far - it's up to Ewan to make the big move.
Part three may be the last. What'll they be? Just friends? PR relationship? Notorious fling? Or new celebrity power couple?
MASSIVE thanks for all the lovely feedback for part one! 💙
Update: if you wish to be tagged in part three, let me know in the comments 💌

Disney doesn't need to change "the formula." That's the last thing that Wish proves.
What Wish proves is that "the formula" only works when you know why the ingredients are in it, and you use them the correct way.
The Princess Character is meant to wish for only half of the movie's message, and go through an adventure that teaches her what the other half is; what her dream was missing. Ariel dreamed of understanding but she was missing love. Tiana dreamed of achieving her goals but she was missing faith. Jasmine dreamed of freedom but she was missing trust. Belle dreamed of adventure but she was missing being understood.
The Villain is meant to highlight the opposite of the movie's message. Jafar gets what he wants through trickery and manipulation; that's the opposite of Aladdin's "truth will set you free" message, and he gets imprisoned in a lamp. Scar thinks being a King is having his way all the time and can't learn from his past of living in Mufasa's shadow; that's the opposite of The Lion King's "Let the past remind you of your responsibility to selflessness." Gaston loves only himself and is always obsessed with appearances; that's the opposite of Beauty & the Beast's "true love is found within a heart of self-sacrifice." That's what makes them such good villains. (and that clear direction is what drives good villain songs, since Magnifico's is what everyone is talking about)
The sidekick is supposed to compare/contrast with the main character's qualities. Abu is a greedy thief, which is what everyone in Agrabah thinks Aladdin is; when he scolds Abu and teaches him selflessness, it shows us who Aladdin actually is. Flounder is easily frightened and looks at the glass half-full; when Ariel coaxes him and leads by example, we see her bravery and positivity reflected in Flounder's tiny character arc. Timon & Pumbaa do whatever they want all day just like young Simba always dreamed of; when Simba goes to live with them, he finds that "getting his way all the time" makes him forget who he really is and feel empty.
The setting is supposed to show off the characters and highlight the movie's message. Rapunzel's tower is designed to be pretty on the inside because of her influence; if it were too dark and prison-shaped, we'd wonder why she didn't work up the courage to leave sooner. Just like how Quasimodo has made his corner of the bell-tower beautiful, too; they're taught the world is cruel and they're not strong enough for it, but they make their own worlds beautiful enough to hint that that's wrong right from the start. Ariel's grotto is shaped like a tower with no roof so that she only has one window to the forbidden Surface, and it's the light that comes from that forbidden world into her dark grotto which literally makes her able to see human things differently. Tiana's apartment has no interesting features except her father's picture, a perfectly made bed, a drawer with no extra outfits but stuffed with tip money, and only two dresses; both of which are for work.
None of that is happening in Wish, because they didn't know why the formula ingredients are there. Disney needs to understand and return to the formula the right way; forgetting it was what got them here.
Asha learns nothing to add to her dream, unless you count "the power to grant wishes is in me." Which you shouldn't, because we didn't even know she was confused about that until the animals sang a song that was completely off-topic and she had the chance to jump in and sing "I'm a Star!"
Magnifico does not demonstrate the opposite of Wish's message effectively because his character has nothing to do with a philosophy against making wishes, and everything to do with power. (He is the strongest character in the film. But because the message and core concept of what wishes are are so bad, that's not saying much.)
Valentino, and Asha's friends, do not highlight anything about her character through compare/contrast. Valentino is brave and all over the place. Her friends are seven-dwarfs parodies. Happy, Doc, Sneezy, Dopey, Bashful, Sleepy, Grumpy. None of that contrasts with Asha's vague characterization of "cares too much." None of it compares to that characterization, either.
The setting is empty. There are no interesting details that teach you something about any of the characters. None in Asha's home, none in the neat-and-tidy one-dimensional forest, none in the Rosas square, and none in the bland, empty castle. Magnifico's study is the closest anything gets; there's a loose concept that all of Asha's friends have to work together to open the roof, and take a leap of faith to weigh the pulley system down. Unfortunately, none of these characters is shown struggling to work together, OR to take leaps of faith, at all, before this point.
The ingredients of the formula are in Wish. They're just not being used correctly. This is how not to use the formula; it's not the formulas fault. If it ain't broke. They should never have let people convince them to try and fix it.
