Currently reading: I'm at the beginning of Anna Karenina by Tolstoy bc I have to for uni (pray for me). Meanwhile, I'm also re-reading Children's and Household Tales (a.k.a Grimms' Fairy Tales) (a translated copy bc I don't speak German) since it's been so long since the last time I've read it. I'm also following a few webtoons I keep up to date with (Homesick being one of them as you can see lol, I love it sm, the art style is gorgeous and the story is interesting). And last but not least, I haven't started Black Paradox by Junji Ito yet, but I think I'll do that this week, the book isn't super long so I should be able to finish it within a week or so.

Hello! I went to sleep while finishing GC so naturally I had dreams abt it and some random questions- would you ever consider adding character descriptions for a Trans MC? (I know this is more work for u so feel free to ignore jus curious).

First off, that is very sweet and I am loving that you dreamed about it!

I had wondered about making something of the sort, but like you said, it adds to an already complex system. My thinking when I did the character creation as it is was that, at least in this world, whoever you are - you just are. That's kinda how I see myself because I've always been in a grey area for my own identity. So, I just am. That's why I didn't enter any sort of specified option for transitioning.

I don't know if anything like the Trans descriptors will be in the game. If I did them, I'd want them to be at least meaningful. So, I won't say no, and it's something I'll take to heart when I consider the scope of the project.

I am thrilled that the naming scene was meaningful for you. I think I know how you feel there.

If I could magic any two people from my IF to life, I would probably go with Papa and Da, lol. Sorry to the RO lovers, but the world needs these daddies!

You will definitely see more of Zahn's backstory even if you don't romance them. Each RO will have that sort of baggage and you will be able to "try before you buy" so to speak. I haven't decided how deep that will go or how those will change depending on if they are romanced or not. I'm considering designing it so that you would need to romance them to get the entire scope of their background, problems, and such and help them find some sort of closure during their route. Zahn will start opening up more before you know it though!

I actually found a honey cake recipe that I wanted to post with a future update for chapter 3! But I'll pop it in here for you in case you want it. It's a bit fancier than what would be available to the MC's family, but it would be delectable. This chef is my all time favorite as well. Love the way he talks and his silly puns. 1 [Star Song]

I tried to faithfully recreate how the colors looked on paper digitally (because 95% of my art was on paper at the time)

I can't remember what the black spots or red streaks were about

I know I put ties & bow ties on many characters during my times of gender confusion

The style of hair is a result of the times of the show, many background characters would often have rainbow dash looking hair, and while most of it is based off of the mare style, the back part is specifically the stallion

The wings are a result of the fandom at the time, with many people adding color to wings because of Cadence

2 [Star Song]

This one isn't exactly a TV head it's technically called a droid, this character was created very quickly in an ⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛ for the ⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛ fandom

In their quick creation I basically reused most of the colors from the pony because I didn't have time to be creative

Many of their design aspects between both results you see here are because of challenge posted on the ⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛

Even the character being a fusion is because of these posts - however because of one person saying oh like "Garnet from Steven universe?" I've always explained the character in reference to Garnet (a character I didn't know, from the show I didn't watch)

3 [Star Song]

At this point the character being a fusion had been long established on the ⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛ and I had added more colour to the hair to make them full rainbow when combined and half rainbows when split. This is supported by the heart on the chest and the heterochromia

Sometime between the first design and this design, one half of the fusion became male (gender confusion strikes again)

4 [Star & Musica]

These characters were again rapidly created as a result of fleeing the ⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛ - ⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛ now you can see how they split, hot & cold

While one of them was always more prone to anger, and lashing out when the other one was much quieter, and kept to themselves - polar opposites in the most boring way possible

Things like this where it's painful how lazily these were created, literally the only thing I changed about the designs was what they were, they were no longer a droid they were now humans, I didn't change their eyes didn't change their hair didn't even change their names

5 [Maya & Sam]

Wow I Actually Leared How To Colour A Character Without Making Your Eyes BLEED, It's A MIRACLE

I also stopped being a fucking coward and gave Sam his shaven sides that I had wanted to forever

And I made him trans in a way that made sense

Sam is his own person now with his own skills and abilities

He’s a gymnast and artist who practices astrology and studies chemistry

(although he's still neglected in comparison because I haven't been able to flesh him out as much as Maya, he's still much more of a character than before)

Despite the history of her original creation (and past gens) Maya has become my most fleshed out character out of any fandom (even earning multiple timelines, ex. the purple)

The scars on her lips were transformed into “joker” like scars on her mouth and they aren’t random (ex. the ones on her cheeks before)

Her grey teeth, rather than the off-white yellow that Sam has, is not a mistake either - the real ones were shattered in a fight

Same with the robotic arms being extra arms and not replacement ones, as well as the beep head not being permanent - she wants to remain has human as possible while still experiencing her work

I also changed their hot and cold, dynamic to Ying and Yang one and actually fleshed it out is that they have similarities and differences like real siblings

6 [Star Song]

Again I learned how to digitally color properly

Now with later seasons having more detailed background characters I felt more confident making a more unique design

Darkening the coat, throwing away the green and yellow, getting rid of those weird marks and tie

The hair now being just three shades/hues of blue that fit well over the cooler purple

They are no longer just a full pony

The wings being princess size rather than a normal Pegasus (+being unable to fly properly) and being a taller body type make them more unique

The heart on the hoof is a call back to gen 3 dolls

The feathers on the ears and legs are from hippogriffs

Coloured horseshoes/wings and the design of the feathered legs are from Gen 5 (the last being concept art only)

Anyways that’s all I wanted to waffle about for now, this whole page was about looking how far I’ve come with these characters and seeing how much I’ve learned over the years.

Looking back through my old art and looking at these old designs as I went... I can really see how some of my special interests in certain cartoons influenced the way I drew. One day I might go back and analyze all of it and write it all out for my own sake of self study... But not now

man I think abt when I used to be one of the fnaf guys and how I used to associate with a buncha other fnaf guys and we all had a server that two of them ran and that's where I met a lotta my current bro dawgs but also.

hang out with those sorts of people bc that was when I was 15-17 and that's. 2-4 years ago. and now I can hardly handle people with a well known name following me without being scared about them being sort of unsavory bc 2-4 years of hearing about the stuff that can happen leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

and sometimes I miss being a fnaf guy, and doing art trades with fellow fnaf guys and I miss makin/receiving gifts with those kinds of people bc one time my bro Mike [do you still go by that name dawg? Skullzy20? idk I haven't checked in on that in a min im never on tumblr anymore it seems.]

So, like, as only the second entry in this series, and from such a new account on top of that, I doubt anyone's really wondering why it took so long for this to come out. And, well, the answer is really short and simple—I took my advice from the first entry and got a Letterboxd account.

I guess I'll be posting all of my thoughts about the new films I add to my spreadsheet there, then. But since I already had a majority of this post typed up, I may as well go ahead and finish it off. Send it off proper, y'know?

Transformers (2007)

And here's me continuing to watch the Transformers movies after seeing the original 80's film back in July. 'Cuz, I mean, with how far removed that one is from the rest of the films...

But anyway, Michael Bay's Transformers! It's honestly not as bad as the Bay hate train I was on in, like, 2017 made it seem. Like, I still think the design of the Transformers is a little too complicated, but whatever. I got used to it.

In hindsight, Bumblebee pissing on a guy isn't even in the top 10 dumbest moments in this series. "I ate the whole plate" still remains an iconic moment, though—thanks, Lindsay.

Cocktail (1988)

Patrick (H) Wilson said in his Letterboxd review of the film that it takes a turn the moment it gets to Jamaica. I think it turns a little earlier than that, 'cuz lemme tell you, the slight whiplash I had going from a dramatic scene to the opening bars of gawddamn "Kokomo"...!

I'unno, it's just damn something to me to see the dramatic beats in this movie and consider that I knew it best for launching songs like "Don't Worry, Be Happy".

Hardcore Henry (2015)

See, this is a film I actually already had on my spreadsheet, but not the part that counts. So here it is now.

I get why people don't like this film. I do, honestly. But, gawd, to me, it's just fun. Dumb, fun and damn unique. I ain't never seen another movie like this—and maybe that's a good thing, 'cuz if I had motion sickness it would've taken me way longer to watch this thing with all the breaks I would've need to take, I swear.

Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen (2009)

This is one of the three Transformers movies I saw in theaters back when they came out, and literally the only things I remembered about this movie before watching it again were Megan Fox's boobs bouncing in slow motion in the climax and the line "I AM DIRECTLY BENEATH THE ENEMY SCROTUM." And, I mean, there was other stuff, too, but I honestly thought a lot of it happened in the next one, like the panty shot of that one girl who turns out to be a Decepticon.

And it's funny that those are among the only things I remembered this movie, 'cuz I did not have as much horny brain back then as I do now, so for those to be the things that stuck out in my mind...

Oh, and of course Megan Fox on the bike—which I thought was how she was introduced last movie, so maybe these movies jus' all kinda blend together for me.

Any case, it's not the worst thing, either. A step down from the first, sure, but compared to how things are gonna go, this is like a stairstep compared to going off a cliff.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem (2023)

It's a good flick, but if this is really how the teens of today talk, then, gawd, I already felt a million years older than the current generation, so this doesn't help at all.

But at least I got to experience to rush of hearing SLACKCiRCUS's cover of "What's Up?" playing on the big screen in a room full of people who haven't spent as much time online as I have. That was damn magical, right there.

Transformers: Dark Of The Moon (2011)

Before this movie, everything I thought I remembered about this movie was from the previous movie, like the ass/panty shot to introduce the replacement for Megan Fox. And after watching this movie, realizing that this is where that happens is really the only thing I gained.

Well, I did get to see Optimus Prime merciless kill Leonard Nimoy-bot begging for his life. That was funny.

Phineas And Ferb The Movie: Candace Against The Universe (2020)

It took me so long to watch this movie because I didn't wanna watch it until after I finished Milo Murphy's Law, which I didn't wanna watch until I finished Phineas And Ferb, which only took me so damn long to finish because I was lazy, and then when I did finish Milo Murphy's Law it took me so long to watch this because by that point it was Fall and I didn't wanna watch this until it was Summer again, and so here I watched it exactly one year after I watched Phineas And Ferb The Movie: Across The 2nd Dimension.

And all that run-on sentence just to say, "Damn, they still got it. And it's jus' damn fun to see these characters again, too."

Also, I don't know how much I entirely buy the head canon I saw that Vanessa is a lesbian, but I like the idea, so I'll accept it anyway.

Transformers: Age Of Extinction (2014)

I remember when I saw this movie in theaters with my family, I was joking with some stranger beforehand that this was gonna be the start of the "Mark Wahlberg trilogy" after the Shia LeBouf one had come to its end.

Imagine my surprise, then, when the movie ends how it does.

Also, RIP T.J. Miller, and heck on that one "Romeo & Juliet law" guy. I can't believe I had to look up Texas state penal code. Gawddamn.

I came from Eddie Murphy, stayed because it was real good, and spent a lot of time in-between stuck on the thought that we're supposed to think that Beyoncé isn't a good singer.

I don't like to get mad at movies, 'cuz I'm still real regretful of the days when Douglas "Funnyman" Walker was the single biggest influence on how I discussed film, but, gawd, this one jus' kind of overwhelmed me with nonsense to the point where I did.

Remember way back at the top, when I said that Bumblebee pissing on a guy wouldn't even be in the top 10 dumbest moments? I think this movie contains most of them, if not all ten. I mean, this is a movie that starts with drunk Merlin and digs deeper rapidly from there.

Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves (1997)

I watched this ahead of the podcast Escape From Vault Disney, so allow me to present my answer for the "what's the attraction?" segment.

As a new method of transport, one of the Disney parks is gonna install a huge bubble machine, where you can hop in and get blown around to a different land at random. And there's only a 10% chance you'll get dropped in a bowl of chip dip and hafta avoid getting vored by giant teen-age girls.

Alternatively, the damn tiki statue gets installed looming over the castle like it's Chicken Little.

Bumblebee (2018)

Honestly, the best Transformers movie. And I'm not just saying that because it references ALF twice. It's very charming, not even despite, but because it's a largely cliché take on "kid makes friend with a beast" movies, especially the ones that came out in the 80's.

Super Mario Bros. (1993)

Look, as an adaptation of the games, yeah, it's dogshit. But making the near impossible attempt to put that aside, it's not that bad. Not, y'know, great, but I think this film's badness is blown way out of proportion. Even if a lot of it doesn't 100% work, I feel like I gotta give it some credit for trying to put its own cinematic spin on what are pretty non-cinematic games.

And seriously, I was not prepared for when the Twin Towers started decaying.

Sonic The Hedgehog (2020)

Anyway, this is a movie about the fastest thing alive where he spends, like, a third of the movie's runtime in a truck passenger seat, and also he has the same voice as Dewey Duck. Some people say this is better than Birds Of Prey? Man, it's fine, but calm the hell down.

Sonic The Hedgehog 2 (2022)

Yeah, this is the better movie of the two. Since all of the introductions out of the way, it allows for so many more elements of the games to be included, and naturally it makes it feel way more like a Sonic movie than the first's whole "family road trip movie" vibe.

And all the credit to Jim Carrey, really. I wish he'd gotten to wear a fat suit like he wanted, but seriously, if you were gonna have anybody playing against anthropomorphic cartoon animals, you may as well get one of the most cartoonish men alive. Even if I did end up variously hearing a lot of Count Olaf or The Grinch in his performance.

Anyway, see y'all in Sonic The Hedgehog 3 when we finally get to see the big screen debut of what is clearly and obviously Sonic.EXE~.

Transformers: Rise Of The Beasts (2023)

A preface: during the scene before the credits rolled, I came up with two jokes I wanted to say to my friends to refer to the "secret military force" or whatever that was being talked about. I decided to go with the second and say "G.U.N" since it was a runner for me that the film that the main character and his little brother would refer to themselves as Sonic and Tails.

Now, look, up until this movie's climax, I was willing to call it the second best of the modern Transformers films. Yes, even with the presence of Pete Davidson, and with how most of the Maximals end up superfluous, and with how the villains turn into absolute cardboard during the climax, which just largely consists of CGi flopping around on a dull, grey landscape. I liked the first two acts a lot, and I felt the material there was a lot stronger than a lot of the Bay films.

But then imagine how much worse this movie got for me when it turned out the first joke I thought of that I didn't go with because I thought it'd be too obvious turned out to be true and that it was actually G.I. Joe.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023)

Sure, it might be Illumination's best movie, but for me it still just largely amounts to someone jangling a keyring of Mario-branded baubles in my face for 90 minutes.

Mortal Kombat (1995)

As I'm writing this, it's been a month since I saw this movie, and I'm only now getting around to writing about it so I can post this. At this point, I don't really remember much about it, which you can also blame on the fact that I was really tired for some reason the first time I sat down to watch it. Seriously, I had to stop and pick it up later, and I have no idea why.

I'll say this much about this movie—I was probably being too hard on it when I watched it. Like, I was stuck on this mentality that, "Oh, this is a famously bad movie. Not as much as its sequel, of course, but it's not good, and I should probably just view it that way." And I regret that. These days I try so hard to has little bias as possible going into movies, so I don't know what I was thinking acting like that.

It's an enjoyable movie. It really is. Whatever it gets wrong about the games, it's not so egregious that it destroys the movie. Honestly, I'd rather it get a couple of things wrong than be so committed to being faithful to the games that it forgets to do anything else all that well. Lookin' at you again, The Super Mario Bros. Movie. So, whatever. I can live with it.

Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, probably less so, but I'll see what I think if I ever watch it.

And also, of course the soundtrack CD by The Immortals that scores part of this movie is amazing. "OOOOHHH, CHINESE NINJA WARRIOR, SUB-ZEROOOO, WITH YOUR HEART SO COLD....!"

Four Swords Rant

I've been playing the Four Swords games for the first time recently, and they're honestly not as good as people hype them up to be. Specifically, I'm referring to the games Four Swords Anniversary Edition and Four Swords Adventures. I was really excited to play them because they're some of the only Zelda games I never touched, so to say I was let down is an understatement. Let me go one at a time with these two, because they're surprisingly different.

Also they're pretty old and are a pain to play nowadays (hell, they were a pain to play even back then), so I imagine a lot of people haven't touched them seriously in forever, so let me recap you as well.

Warning: This post will be long. I am sorry.

Firstly, Four Swords. It's probably the most obscure official Zelda game made for one of Nintendo's main systems. Four Swords was a freebie with the GBA version of A Link to the Past, and it's remaster Four Swords Anniversary Edition was a downloadable freebie to all Nintendo DSI owners. Needless to say, but there's no reason to be too overly harsh on the game. Honestly, the main problem with Four Swords is less to do with the game and more do to Nintendo's refusal to act normal for five seconds. Four Swords Anniversary was delisted just a few months after release, and the GBA original has never been rereleased (despite the fact Nintendo charges us a $50 sub to play GBA games with online multiplayer as being its main selling point).

Anyway the game itself. It's a weird one. There's four main levels, but they're randomized. It's kinda like a roguelike game or something. The gameplay is basic, but it's fun enough for a freebie. The original GBA version was multiplayer only, but luckily the (delisted) remaster added a singleplayer which works fine enough. I wanted to play it multiplayer with a friend (and believe me I tried), but it was too much hassle. As a singleplayer game, I can see it working very well as a way to get your quick Zelda fix on the go.

"But where's the complaining?" you might be wondering. Well, I haven't gotten into the bonus levels yet. Anniversary added two extra worlds... which consist of three levels each... which themselves are batches of three levels each. So 18 levels, except unlike the base game, these aren't randomized. These were all handcrafted, and are identical on every playthrough. The first 9 levels aren't bad at all, actually. They're loving homages to ALTTP, LA, and TLOZ respectively and the level design and puzzle were pretty good imo.

Now the second batch of levels are what grind my gears. They're positioned as like the greatest challenge yet but they're more like greatest test of patience. These levels are LONG (admittedly I play slow), and they're the only time in the game where Rupees became a real annoyance to me. Basically, Rupees are your extra lives. If any Link dies, you lose 50, then 100, then like 200, etc until it caps at 500 Rupees per death. If a Link dies, they respawn on the spot. Now critically, if you can not afford the death fee it's GAME OVER. You have to go back —not to the start of the level— but to to the start of that batch of 3 levels. Just one of these levels can take me like 30 minutes because they're huge and I'm looking everywhere for all the rupees I can get. Add them all up and that's like 90 minutes of progress I can potentially lose from not having my damn tax money. Even that wouldn't be too bad if these levels didn't have some downright horrible game design in my opinion. For example, the second batch of levels are all filled with ice physics that make the game near unplayable. Yeah, it's hard I guess. But the developers didn't seem to understand that hard things should also have to be fun.

You may think this is a lot of pointless complaining considering it's about 1 bonus world in a free and delisted remaster of a relatively obscure game, and if you do think that you're completely correct. However I was so completely miserable playing it that I just had to rant to get it off my chest, ok? Despite my whining, I think Four Swords Anniversary Edition is a good game for what it is, at least from my singleplayer perspective.

Four Swords Adventures on the other hand... I am not so forgiving to. Disclaimer: I have not finished this game yet. At this point, we only have a couple worlds left. Multiplayer games like this need scheduling, and we haven't had the chance to end it yet. Firstly, Four Swords Adventures is the polar opposite of Four Swords in terms of price. While Four Swords was basically just a free giveaway, Four Swords Adventures is perhaps one of the most ridiculously expensive games to ever exist on a home console. Between the $50 price tag of the game itself, you also need four $100 GBAs, and four $10 GBA to GCN link cables. If you just want to play your Gamecube game with multiple people the couch, you had to spend over $500 (including tax) when it was new. Keep in mind, I was using the pricing of back then when it was new. Nowadays it's even worse. Just one of those GBA to GCN cables alone and used can run you like $40.

You might defend this with, "So what? The GBA Four Swords required a bunch of consoles and stuff. You didn't give it shit for it." But there's a huge difference there. It's not unreasonable for a GBA game to need more GBAs for multiplayer. In fact, for simultaneous multiplayer it simply needs to do that. There's no other way it could reasonably work. Not only that, but Four Swords—again—was a freebie to a normal Zelda game. It was more like a bonus if you had the extra hardware to play it.

Meanwhile, it's completely UNreasonable for a Gamecube game that's literally all about multiplayer to require four separate game consoles on top of the existing home console that you needed to buy. Spoiler alert, but the GBAs basically just act like Wii U Gamepads before the Wii U Gamepad, and they're about as useless. You can see your health, force gem count, and if you're in a house or underground you appear on the GBA screen. Is it neat? Kinda, but not $500 neat. This game should've just had split screen, like a normal game. The GBA stuff could've just been optional if you own the hardware already. It's completely and utterly ridiculous, and it's insane that Nintendo got away with it.

Well for a game this expensive, it must be worth it right? God I wish it was...

Firstly, the good. I really love the combat. It feels like 3D Zelda combat adapted right into the second dimension. It took me a bit to get used to, but it feels great. I can't remember if any other 2D played like this, but I like it. Secondly and despite my upcoming issues, I do think the game is decently fun most of the time.

Ok I'm out of good. Now for the bad.

Firstly, WHY IS EVERYTHING RECYCLED FROM OTHER GAMES?! Graphics, music, enemies, everything! Everything is taken from either A Link to the Past, Wind Waker, or the OG Four Swords. Even some of the characters are just lifted from Ocarina of Time like come on Nintendo! Give this game some identity! The original GBA game felt like it had more of its own identity, and it was literally a pack in! It makes me feel like I'm playing some weird mod or fangame or something. It doesn't help that some of the graphics just look bad. Some of the bosses reused from Wind Waker, for example, just have some really cheap looking sprites. Combine that with the constant mismatch of assets from random Zelda games on top of this game's tacky UI elements and it ends up looking like a Newgrounds fan game.

Secondly, the multiplayer experience is seriously flawed. There's no way around it. So, it's a co-op right? After all, the goal is to work together to finish the dungeon. Well the co-op experience is frankly lacking. All the co-op amounts to is "Push thing together" or "Grab thing together" or whatever. There's rarely any creativity in it. Most of this game could be completed with a single Link, which ends up meaning that there's rarely any feeling of actually working together to get through it. Often, one person will just end up doing everything while the others are just following them around with nothing to contribute.

As for the puzzles? What puzzles? So far, there's hardly been anything at all. That's baffling to me, because four player Zelda is literally perfect for tons of super fun puzzles, but so far it's like they aren't even in the game really. It's such a damn shame, because that was the part I was really looking forward to. Elaborate co-op puzzle solving?? Like sign me up! But alas. The game is basically just exploration and combat. The combat is fun, but the exploration? Well, I'll get back to that.

So the co-op is already wounded as is, but what kills it the fact this game feels deeply confused on what kind of multiplayer game it wants to be. On one hand, it seems like it's a co-op. On the other hand, it adds a bunch of annoying shit to try to make it competitive. I don't mean the side modes or Tingle's tower or whatever. I mean the core level to level gameplay. The fact that things like heart containers and bracelets are only given to one person is terrible because it undercuts the fact we're working together here. When I get an upgrade like that I just feel bad about it. A lot of the intended competitiveness revolves around the Rupee replacements, being Force Gems. The game really wants us to be aggressively fighting each other over these damn gems that none of us give a shit about. So much so that the game has freaking friendly fire on at all times. Not only that, but we also have hitboxes and can bump each other around and get in each other's way. This means that this a co-op game where the other players are more likely to get in the way of each other (whether they like it or not) than they are to actually work together. Even from a purely competitive perspective, what's the appeal? Being a dick to your friends just ends up costing both of you in the end, so like???

Plus like, there's practically no punishment for death at all. The only punishment as far as I can tell is ranking lower on the end level tally, which again is just an unwanted competitive element.

Finally, the exploration has problems too. It's generally fun, but there's a constant sense of being tethered too heavily to your teammates. Despite the fact that the game forces every player to have a glorified Gamepad, there's still very little freedom in walking around. Sure, another player might walk into a cave, but you're all stuck on the same overall screen. That means that if one player has to backtrack, everyone has to backtrack with them. It also means that the four players can't multitask. Unless there's a bunch to do on one screen, and there usually isn't, it just leaves someone waiting for the other players to get finished.

It doesn't help that every player only gets 1 item each. It's so lame. They totally could've added an inventory menu and had you unlock items for at least the rest of the level, rather than temporarily putting them in the hands of one Link. Any excitement I feel finding a cool item is completely ruined knowing that I'll likely be forced to toss it aside for like, a shovel or something. Plus, it's the main source of obnoxious back tracking. God, it really feels good for the whole group to backtrack multiple screens because one of us needs to grab a certain item that we need to progress. Feels great. Definitely not wasting our time.

I know I've been really negative, but I don't hate this game. When I can ignore the issues, it's pretty fun. But man this game can really get on all of our nerves at times, and not in an enjoyable way. Four Swords Adventures just reeks of missed potential. Multiplayer Zelda??! That sounds awesome! But nah this was super underwhelming. My gameplay issues combined with the insane hardware requirements just makes this a huge no go nowadays. It's frankly not worth it, in any capacity. If you have to play it, just play it on PC if you can. It's too much money for a game that feels this uncreative.

your recent is. such a weird post to make. 99% of the time anime will rely on displays of characters’ cultures like their names, where they live, and the activities they partake in to show that theyre japanese rather than character designs. all of these characters are clearly meant to be japanese and its whitewashing to say otherwise just because they dont look japanese to you. plenty of asians get told they dont look asian because their features dont match up with what others perceive as “asian features” and this is super reminiscent of that. i dont see what about the names “reigen arataka” and “shou suzuki” scream white to you

i absolutely see your point! however. i think its interesting to imagine a non-japanese person (specifically a second-generation white/white&japanese immigrant) in a dominantly japanese environment + it puts an interesting spin on reigen's character with how it at the same time would alienate him in society while helping him create the image of this Incredible Psychic [more thoughts under the cut]

reigen very obviously lived his whole life in japan and recalls it sometimes (his school memories come to mind); he is familiar with the traditional clothing, food and activities, folklore, geography and such. so i do believe he has lived his whole life in japan! however, seeing how we haven't got to meet or even see or learn the name of his parents, i truly think he could be a white-with-an-asterisk dude who was born in japan. so culturally he is as japanese as it gets, but that doesnt mean he couldnt have white* parents/roots!

as for his name. 霊験灼か (reigen arataka) is actually not a traditional name, but a pun on the japanese phrase    that sounds the same. so his name doesn't 'scream white to me' necessarily, but it isn't very strictly japanese either if that makes sense. even disregarding that and focusing on the possible-immigrant aspect:

first name arataka is self-explanatory, japanese (-sounding) name given to a kid who would need to integrate into the society (i am not actually sure that this name exists as neither the romanization nor the kaiju search return results besides reigen's name). and his last name reigen is not necessarily an originally-japanese surname -- it could be a katakana-zation of an english last name like Ragan or Ragen!

i also think that it would make sense to him to become a (charlatan) psychic because being white is seen as Other/Alien in the japanese society and it would add something of a mysterious prestige to his persona which would lead to more interest in his business etc. the other psychics who do psychic business in mp1OO present themselves in a pretty exotic manner (im talking hairstyle, clothes, tattoos) while reigen is just wearing a simple fucking suit and tie! and i think it would be really interesting if he had chosen to use his appearance/race to create this image of a 'professional foreigner who is very serious, competent and familiar with japanese culture/ghosts'.

i could write even more speculations re: his parents and races and heritages and just make up a whole shaky tower of headcanons but i dont really feel like researching it too long. what i will say from what i learned before falling too deep into this rabbithole: wiki lists reigen's birth year as a year of a rat. i think it's 1984 (would make him almost-thirty around when mp1OO was being published). before 1985, japan's jus sanguinis only automatically granted japanese citizenship to those who were born to a japanese father. so i think it would make sense for his father to be japanese/mixed and for his mother to be white*.

OBSERVATION:

Okay,so after I've registered my email and created my username (which I properly recall wasn't that har...you know what Im not going to lie,lets jus forget about that aweful memory for a sec)as well as provided all the information they guaranteed me was necessary i was finally granted access into the site(ok I can hear you rolling your eyes and muttering "isn't that why you're here,I think that's pretty obvious" buh what you should be really wondering is how the f**k I heard your eyes rolling,I mean does it make some sound when it rolls and even with that how did I hear it when you are reading a text I wrote many hours ag.......ok enough of that now).As I was saying "finally I was granted access into the site' so I was now like what do I do from here buh I think tumbrl was aware of of my distress and inexperience with that sort of thing that they kindly offered me with a list of topics I may be interested in to choose from,and when someone offers you something kindly no matter what it is-a piece of clothing,a kiss or even some mighty feast you are sure your stomach can't handle at once you accept it and eat it like a man...or a woman(even though it jus means you're a glutton)so I made sure I picked every single topic-yeah every single one.So after I cleared this part,I saw the very first post I ever read in this site(I'd be revealing what this was in some other post,some other day) that's when I went onwards to experiment #2

EXPERIMENT #2: Edit And Customize Your Page (Because he has been given control of who he becomes he sees he has the ability to shape himself and therefore shape the things around him and accepts he has become god,but so soon he forgets he was given that ability in the first place)

OBSERVATIONS:

Alright this was actually my favorite part of all the processes,adding my own touch to my page turning it the way I want I see now though that I've not totally finished this process there are still alot of things I wish to still update on my page but am sorry I haven't really had time to spend alot of time online or even on any platform nowadays but I hope things would clear up soon.So I started customizing the page the way Id feel comfortable with profile pics and Everything,I found myself using the color light blue as my page theme(am not really sure what the exact color is buh am sure it has B.L.U.E in it's name),for one thing Im not really crazy about blue sometimes I even try avoiding it buh I've found out the color always have a way of finding it's way around and into my graps,like a good chunk of my clothing's have a touch of blue on it,the footwears I've been rocking for some while now all have a touch of blue,my lamp I use for late night studies has it,my new notebook I use for writing and pitching ideas to myself has a blue lined design across the boarders of it,and my phone when I picked a color at random I thought I will end up with something like pink or black for my troubles........Out of 12 colors to choose from you'd think I might have really escaped blue well guess what-am using a totally blue backed phone right about now so that turned out to be a bad idea,well I guess there are really some things we can't jus escape,mine had to be the color blue 😢

Just to any mods in general: When designing a character do you go through many design changes before settling on a final design?

- horror's monster form design was a Lot different from how it was back then (never posted it publicly tho) . biggest difference was that he had eyes and a nose !!! an also chains on his wrists an ankles

- tyrant had a Lot mor scars , altho they were simplified 4 convenience sake . him being blind in one eye was ALSO not a thing originally ! ended up adding it bc ,,,, idk lol thought it looked neat

- i jus made teen look mor liek a ,,,, well a Teenager . fuckers sixteen now he can b a little edgy as a treat <3 also unrelated but fun fact he has three parents ! i forgot 2 include one of them when teen reveals who stars parents r whoops

usually when i have an idea for character design i make a few sketches on paper to see what i like. ive usually talked about personality, characteristics, backstory etc beforehand so i have a vague idea of what i want it to look like!

-OWA's design changed a lot, more specifically his outfit and its colors. He used to wear a jacket until I decided that he probably wouldn't enjoy the restrictive movement that comes w it, and also drawing his scars seems cooler to me than just a normal jacket.

-Burnt Toast was going to originally be humanoid before the final design! He was going to have only one eye and a lower jaw, and he would wear a mask around people he didn't trust. After changing his story slightly, he ended up being the giant time noodle seen today :]

-Lizard RHM was actually very tricky at first. I knew I wanted him to be a lizard, but it was very difficult to decide how humanoid he would be, what his color scheme would be, what kind of lizard he would resemble, etc. Orange and spikey stuck out to me the most! im a sucker for orange. i love orangh

i kind of just accidentally make design changes over time and go "oh i guess this is how i draw them now lol!!"

the most common thing for me to do is to make hair fluffier over time or make the character shorter by accident

I tend to stick fairly closely to the original design (in Alex's case, I have not changed anything about them, but that's just because I got attached to the silly), but more often change the character's personality over time (Alex went from someone barely making ends meet and working paycheck to paycheck to a popular YouTuber because of a joke AU I made).

There's an example and exception contained in one OC of mine, who went over a huge personality overhaul (went from sad to thembo) and also had a lot of his features changed as a result of him actually being given an ethnicity (he didn't have one before), after which I changed his features accordingly.

I'll also change a physical design if the old design has bad memories attached to it (I recently redesigned a character because his outfit was created by my abuser).

Personally, I haven't really changed anything much design wise for my aus (except for my modsona she got a redesign recently). Triple Treat really only had this one rather dark joke I have since tossed aside I guess. However, how an au of mine did go through a bit of a change... Kid!

Initially, Kid was meant to be a rather shy and quiet child. He didn't really talk with people or other kids at his daycare, his only friends being his toys. Mama V also wasn't part of the initial concept, coming from a suggestion that one of the other mods had

As you can tell, Kid has perked up quite a bit. He's a LOT more friendly and cheerful, and a lot more... Peculiar to say the least, with some of the things he's able to so ;)

Well, I guess there's also a lot of the ideas I had for Reaper! I just, haven't really been able to implement them.

This is a wierd one and I'm only typing it cuz I feel like complaining and rambling today (see username) but

Man, Pokemon being kinda not good wouldn't hurt so much if not for the fact that like... there's hardly anything else that matches it. And if it does, it hasn't gotten an installment in decades.

The only things that come even slightly close are digimon (which has a completely different tone, style, and, is only a mon game like 25% of the time) and Yokai Watch (which imo is like. Not really the same kind of game. I also hate its designs but thats neither here nor there) and even then those two kind of fizzle out and in and out. Yokai Watch hasn't even been localised for a good while I'm pretty sure.

Now I know, I know, imaginary straw man I'm directing my words towards, there are some great indie mon games I should try and-

I've played them. All of them.

Every last one. If I haven't I either haven't heard of it (extremely rare) don't have the money (Nexomon, Monster Crown) or access, or it hasn't come out yet (Coromon, That one open access one that is real time Or I guess I just know it's not good I mean most mobile ones are just poke clones but with worse designs and microtransactions.

Terra monsters. SMT. Dragon Quest Monsters. Temtem. Spectrobes. Fossil Fighters. Monster Sanctuary. Minimon. Mystic Guardians. MH Stories. Too many mobile ones that are usually just poke clones or scummy money suckers.

And like... 75% of them are dead and not coming back. It is a goddamn drought out there I tell you.

The thing that really gets me about mon games is that it's so small, it doesn't even really have a genre. Steam calls 'em 'creature collectors' and has stuff like my singing monsters and rune factory, which, yeah you collect monsters and they might be part of your team, but its not monster-to-monster combat. I'm not limiting stuff even by being turn based. I call em 'monster catching games' or jus. Mon games. And sure you can find lists of similar games but like, its so small!!! Imagine if you could name every single rpg within a twitter post or two!

And why??? I just don't understand, THERE ARE MORE POKEMON FAN GAMES THAN THERE ARE MONSTER CATCHING GAMES!!! (And YES, I've already played a ton of them. I am a slut for mon games, please, give them to meeeeee)

And even then of the games that do something different significantly? Even sparser. God if you haven't played Fossil Fighters GO PLAY FOSSIL FIGHTERS IT IS SO ORIGINAL AND IT HAS DINOSAURS

Like what is the deal??? Its not like theyre mmos or open world games that would take entire teams to make, minimon was made by one dude. Does just no one want to? Why? Pokemon has one of the most passionate fanbases around, in many ways, are people really that dedicated that they dont play anything else or want to make their own thing? Even when they do its still jus fan games! I don't get it. But I dont really understand fan stuff in the first place, its jus not my thing, even if i love peoples incredible passion, I also secretly and probably rudely weep at what people could accomplish if they just did something original and not doomed to be C&D'd if its too good.

Basically I'm learning to code out of spite because my god if no ones gonna do it I will. But in like a decade I have too many projects to do lol.

I'm not really all that loyal to pokemon but it really hurts when it goofs up because thats like, 90% of the genre. Its so large it swallows everything else and dooms it to obscurity. It feels like its the only option. I can only replay everything else so many times :(

Oh hey so I'm no longer spamming otherkin stuff! Now back to my regular fandom hogwash posts

So for a while now, I've been intrigued by the concept of a personality split m!a on Kir'aath (2 individuals who represent the two sides of Kir'aath) and in doing so, I have two currently unused, very niche characters, Violet and Azura.

Violet, who I have done more drawings of currently, represents Kir'aath's insecure yet more calm and responsible side. She has most of Kir'aath's powers (creating creatures, minor body manipulation to make them look as non-binary as possible)

And her "sister" Azura. Basically the living equivalent of a ytp a la 2008. Being way more outgoing and chaotic and got Kir'aath's hand-to-energy-sword gimmick. I have yet to draw them colored and haven't done anything past a concept sort of sketch for her in my older sketchbook.
