imma be super honest about the ending ....
i don't like it.
point blank.
it feels too rushed, too good to be true. like the last few chapters didn't even matter at all. all the build-up, all the stakes, hiyori's death... for what?
what happened to father? what about the GGS? what about heaven? what about amaterasu? what about literally everything?
sure, hiyori gets to live. but this was an absolute ass-pull by adachitoka which completely disregards the whole theme of noragami as a WHOLE.
and they hinted at yato giving his everything to hiyori, giving up his life, just so she gets to live...
ONLY TO FUCKING SHIT ON HER BEING HIS LIFELINE BY MAKING HIM GO VIRAL VIA TWITTER? WHAT THE FUCK?>?????
this whole lifeline thing could've been resolved by twitter??? imean COME ON. come the fuck on. it's funny, yes, but completely ruins the whole problem of his lifeline like i was seriously ripping my hair out in agony bc it was so stupid.
ahghghhhh
don't get me wrong. i'm happy everyone gets their happy ending. but it just... doesn't sit right with me. it doesn't feel like noragami, the noragami that balances happy and tragic themes so well! but alas. it was a nice ride.
i will now go cry in disappointment under my sheets.

ORANGE COLORED SKY 🏜️ || Cooper Howard x Fem!Reader
Tumblr media
𐚁⊹₊ ⋆☆
My first fic about this bonafide work of ART! AKA The one and only, Cooper Howard / The Ghoul. This MAN has everyone lined up to get a taste so I am here to deliver! This is also a little surprise for @lexiway121!!! Reader is fem and in her mid-ish - late-ish 20s in this fic! This will also be a two part fic!! ..Maybe even more. SUMMARY: reader is little miss janey’s babysitter (cooper is going to need all the help he can get ESPECIALLY DURING A DIVORCE) and reader was invited to the kids birthday party (seen in the beginning of ep 1) as cooper’s plus two just to keep an extra eye on janey and the horse/sugarfoot. everything was nice until.. FLASH! BAM! ALAKAZAM!
chapter 1.5 : here!

“Flash! Bam! Alakazam!”
“Out of an orange colored sky!”
The birthday party was going perfectly! You and Janey were standing somewhat near Cooper as he did his lasso tricks on his beloved horse, Sugarfoot. The birthday boy, alongside with his plethora of friends, were all staring and gasping in awe as the cowpoke twirled the lasso up and down to where he was inside of the spinning circle of rope. Cooper noticed their precious, little reactions and smiled back at his audience, a tender yet low chuckle escaping his throat.
Seeing how happy he looked and smiled as well, your cheeks became a tad bit blushed.. definitely from the L.A. heat — and that’s when Janey looked up at her and noticed how you, her babysitter, were smiling at her dad.. “Twitterpated..” -Was what the seven year old mumbled under her breath; she really needed to slow her roll on asking her dad what certain words meant. You, on the other hand, didn’t quite hear what Janey mumbled so you jokingly decided to peep out a little, “What was that, sweetie?” and all you got in response was an “innocent” little “Nothiiiiiiiing!”
After a few minutes of continuing his lasso show, Cooper got off his trusty stead and adjusted Sugarfoot’s saddle with such care while Janey rushed over to try and help her father. “Alright, birthday boy,” The cowboy said while looking at the VERY excited kid, “Let’s get a photo of ya up here on Sugarfoot.” As Cooper picked up the boy to place him on the horse while his daughter held onto the reigns, the birthday boy’s dad and his buddy, aka Tweedle-Dee and Tweedle-Dipshit, start talking about Cooper Howard.
“Why the hell is Cooper Howard workin’ kids’ birthday parties?” The dad’s friend muttered as he held onto a bottle of some pretty cheap beer, and the dad responded with the most embarrassing answer known to man, “What else? Alimony.” The asshole said nonchalantly before he went back to nursing his shitty bottle of beer. That made Cooper whip his head around to look at the father with his mouth slightly agape, flabbergasted he would even bring that shit up at his kid’s party. To make things worse, sweet Janey popped up and asked the billion dollar question.. “What did they say, dad?”
Cooper looked down at his precious little angel with a quiet yet warm voice, “That I’m lucky to have such a good helper like you.” Poor, innocent Janey didn’t know what was going on between her Dad and Momma. All she knew was that she would have some very long weekends with her Momma and her Grandma and then she would go back to stay with her tired Dad.
Knowing what Cooper was going through and hearing those horrible words come out of that assholes mouth, you glared at the boy’s father so hard that he could fucking feel it. The dad looked back at you and rolled his eyes, pointing at you while muttering, “Some people say he cheated on his wife with his kid’s babysitter.” That was the last fucking straw and you wanted to smack the living daylights out of him. “Are you fucking kidding me, you goddamn pig-” You muttered but Janey quickly grabbed onto your hand with that same sweet smile she always had.
The anger that boiled inside of your body slowly began to simmer down into nothingness as you moved out of the way so the dad (AKA the head honcho of being an asshole) could take a photo of his son on top of the horse with Cooper standing next to him and little Janey holding onto the reigns, “All right- You ready?” The dad positioned the camera and even though the kid had a smile that was brighter than the 4th of July, the cowboy’s smile seemed.. off. Usually, Cooper would have these sweet dimples on either side of his mouth when he would smile real big for photos or when his daughter would do something extraordinary.. But those dimples weren’t there for these pictures.

After the photo was taken, the cowpoke carefully lifted up the giddy child from the saddle on Sugarfoot to the soft and lush green grass beneath them. Cooper was just about to check up on you and his daughter, but- “Hey, honey- Honey! Get with Cooper. Let’s get a picture.” -Mayor Asshat of Assville motioned the man to stand next to his wife. Though Cooper was a little awkward about the whole ordeal, he quickly posed up next to the wife and had that fake smile on his face once more.
Click!
“Aw- Coop, Coop, Coop! Do your thumbs-up.” The jerkwad ordered and right as you were about to intervene, Cooper (sorta) stood his ground and quickly responded with, “..Yeah, you know, given the state of everything, I prefer not to, if that’s all right.” But guess what? Señor Shit-for-brains wasn’t having it because being an asshole was in his damn genes. “Why not?” asked Count Fuckhead-ula, “It’s what you’re famous for.” he added right after but his wife, the one with common sense in the relationship, told “Bob” to drop it.
“We- uh.. We gotta get this rodeo on the road.” Cooper said with his head tilted slightly downwards towards the vibrant green grass beneath his worn leather boots while the boy’s mother handed him a check. Quickly, you grabbed onto the reigns that hung from Sugarfoot’s neck and clicked your tongue to get the horse to start walking. “..Well that was just fuckin’ lovely, huh Sugar?” Muttering solemnly under your breath, you walked alongside the sweet stead, tying the beautiful horse up to a tree so it wouldn’t run loose.
Tumblr media
A good 5 minutes roll on by like a tumbleweed and You were walking around with Cooper by your side.. while the two of you were picking up giblets of trash left behind by some kids and adults. “I never thought that I was going to be doing this at a kid’s birthday party, Mr. Howard. Picking up trash after people is not what I had planned.” You stood back up after having to bend over to pick up an empty bottle of orange flavored Nuka Cola. “Oh yeah? What did you have planned, missy?” Cooper looked over at you with one of his eyebrows raised up and a smirk growing on his lips.. those gorgeous lips alongside those beautiful hazel eyes- “Uhhh- I don’t know? Maybe mingle with some of the parents and swipe myself a piece of cake. I heard it was chocolate cake.” A little smile grew on your face but your blooming happiness all went to waste when you saw “Bob the Shit Talker” staring at both of you through the window.
“But for a grown ass man to talk shit about us with his lil buddy and then having us pick up trash left by him and his guests was definitely not on my list.” You angrily sneered at the man who continued to glare at you two through the window before letting out a loud and deep sigh. Cooper, God bless this sweet man’s soul, quickly stood up and looked at you. “He did.. what? I knew he was talking shit about me but he and Mr. Clean were talking about you? ..Fuck- It was that rumor again, huh?”
The sweet-hearted cowboy looked up at the sky as if he were silently praying to God himself to smite down that piece of shit before he looked over at your slightly blushed to make sure you weren’t boo-hooing over something that wasn’t even true. He knew you didn’t have to answer him because the look of embarrassment on your face was all he needed to know.. but at least you weren’t crying.
After a few minutes of some much needed silence, you both made your way back to Janey, who was eyeing that delicious chocolate cake as she wrapped her own little lasso around her hand. You saw how Janey was looking at that cake.. and you started to look at the cake the same way the little girl was staring at that frosted piece of heaven.
“Why didn’t you do it?” Janey’s words snapped you out of your hungered staring contest with the cake. You looked down at the little girl that was looking at her father, who was now crouched down next to her. “The thumbs-up.” Oh shit.. She just accidentally busted open a huge ass can of Marine flashbacks for Cooper. At first, he tried to make her forget about it by telling her it was “grown up business” but those sweet, sweet eyes of hers were just too much for his heart to handle.
You crouched down next to the girl and gently placed a hand on her upper back, gently rubbing your thumb against the material of her button up’s collar. “Honey.. The reason why your dad doesn’t like having his thumb up is because-” Your words were cut off from Cooper clearing his throat and placing a hand on your shoulder, immediately making you shut up so he could be the one to explain it to his daughter. The older man explained what they taught him when he was in the Marines to his daughter, telling her that he and his fellow marines would hold up their thumbs whenever a bomb would drop. If the cloud of smoke was smaller than their thumbs, they had to run for the hills.. and if the cloud was larger than their thumbs, they wouldn’t even have to worry about running.
“..Who wants some cake?” You chirped out awkwardly while standing up, brushing your hands against your top before placing them on your hips. Janey’s eyes immediately lit up with absolute joy from the thought of having a slice of cake, and she quickly nodded her head with her hands clasped together. “I’ll see if I can snag you girls a couple o’ pieces, ‘kay?” The infamous cowboy stood up as well and walked inside of the house and you decided to join him to grab your own slice of heaven.
Tumblr media
FLASH!
Once Cooper grabbed his daughter a slice and you grabbed your own, you two rejoined his little angel once more but instead of seeing her sweet smile shining brightly on her face, you were both met with her holding up her thumb and a horrified look on her face. Her body was trembling, her bottom lip was quivering, her eyes were tearing up, and when she spoke, she sounded like she was looking Death itself straight in the eyes..
“Is it your thumb or mine?”
“It’s just a fire..”
You could hear the dread in his voice and the sound of her little heart pounding against her ribcage as you followed their gazes to a.. large cloud of smoke and destruction. Your own heart start to rapidly beat profusely inside your body and your eyes widened in terror as a wave of radiation started coming your way. Everything felt as if it were in slow motion as you and Cooper both decided to crouch down to clutch Janey close to your bodies to shield her from any harm.
As the wave finally passed through, the glass windows shattered into millions of shards varying from large pieces to microscopic fragments and felt one of the medium sized pieces plunge itself into the side of your calf. “Oh GOD!!” A horrifying shriek of pain found its way from out of your body as Cooper quickly scooped both you and his daughter up in his arms, quickly running towards his much needed horse, Sugarfoot.
BAM!
Dread pulses throughout your body while your eyes darted across the scene around you — Parents with their sons and daughters in their arms, people running around aimlessly like ants after a menace of a child stepped on their nest, and the screams and cries of frightened young children wanting to go home. You’re pulled out of your frightened state when Cooper tried to push you up on Sugarfoot after he placed his daughter up on the saddle. “Cooper.. Cooper! No!! Get Janey out of here! You have to get her out of here!!” You pushed yourself away from him and stumbled back, your limp leg giving its all to keep you somewhat supported.
“Y/N- Get on the damn horse! I can’t just leave you here!” He tried to pull you back towards him but you limped back away from him once more. “You need to get her out of here, Coop.. Please.” Tears welled up in your eyes and they fell down your cheeks when they became too heavy for your eyes to hold. “Please.. Go- Get out of here!!” You pushed him away and back towards the horse, and you swore you saw him shed a lone tear.
As more bombs fell from the sky, you watched in grief as your beloved cowboy hop on his horse and grabbed on the reigns, immediately whipping them a little to signal Sugarfoot to get the fuck out of there — away from the chaos and away from the horror.. away from you. You dropped to your knees as you bawled your pretty little eyes until there were no more tears to shed.. and when you heard the faint whistle of a bomb dropping nearby.
ALAKAZAM!
This was the end, you thought. The end of the world, the end of your life, and the end of everything and everyone that you loved.. and the beginning of a new age: The beginning of a nuclear fallout. As you kneeled down on the green grass that was way too vibrant to be real, you tilted your head upwards and looked towards the sky, smiling one last time before your skin began to burn, your insides feeling as if they were being cooked at a thousand degrees, your voice becoming rasped and broken as you screamed in complete and utter agony. You took your final breath of irradiated air underneath that hideous orange colored sky.
THE END ..?
—————
thank you so much for reading the first chapter of Orange Colored Sky! i hope you liked it as much as i did and i hope you can excuse the.. nicknames i gave “bob” at the beginning (he deserved it though! he was an asshole for absolutely no reason.)

Tumblr media
You’re twelve years old the first time that you feel it.
You have hippies to thank for the entire ordeal. In your small, small town in Canada, there’s very little tension or importance on the arts. Singing, dancing, acting - like many places around the world - fall short to the highs and lows that come with sports.
Your middle school is no exception. A school that can barely spare money to fund a dying arts department, that begrudgingly offers one generalized art class that covers the basics of painting. Except when the hippy dippy parents in town petition, file a complaint with the mayor, they’re sequestered to include arts in all sectors that sports are included in.
A law that opens doors insanely. And creates the opportunity that exposes you to it. The singer showcase at the football pep rally.
And if you have to, you guess you have to thank food poisoning as well. Because Paulina, the original girl who was supposed to sing, was missing from first period that morning and you were all too quick to offer to take her spot.
They give you that pitchy, old black microphone and let you sing your heart out to one of your favorite old songs, At Last by Etta James. And when you open your eyes, the recollection of the performance is wiped from your mind seconds after you finish, and there’s only one thing you remember. It rings so hard, the sound so loud in your eardrums that it’s all you feel. The rush of the blood, the eyes staring back at you, and your cheeks burning.
When you think back, long and hard, that’s the first time it happens. The first time you feel it. It sits with you, that resounding pressure, that digs on you to give in. The need, the want, the infatuation with the rush you’re feeling.
And the obsession with the sound of the applause.
--
“Y/N. Wake up.”
You aggressively push your forehead into the plush of your pillow, creating a nice symphony of groaning songs in response to Danny, who is interrupting your beauty sleep.
“How long has it been?” you murmur into the pillow, the stinging in your head and the fatigue sitting in your body telling you it couldn’t have even been an hour.
“An hour. But I just realized, the bridge didn’t come out right when I was mixing so you have to record it again.”
“Can you come back in like three years? When I have the energy?” you groan.
“Y/N. I’ll see you in five down there.” he definitively states, shuffling out of your room.
Against every fiber of your being, you pull yourself out of the bed and drag yourself down to the studio, making it a point to glare at him as you re-record the bridge of the song you wrote yesterday. You give it a few tries, messing with the octaves and inflections, until you get a shining thumbs up, and wrap yourself into the blanket left on the couch.
“You write anything new?”
“Shut the fuck up.”
You hold out your green book to Danny, opening it to the page marked, at which your producer is already wrinkling his nose. He hasn’t even read the lyrics yet, but you’re sure the title - Cry - is already setting him off.
“You didn’t even read it yet.” you respond, frowning.
“I don’t have to read it to know it’s brilliant. But you were there in that meeting last week and you know this isn’t what we can push out.” he responds, turning back to his soundboard, half-pulling his headphones back onto his ear.
“Danny. I-I just haven’t been able to write songs like that lately. This is what’s coming out.”
After nearly a year of writing music and touring, Danny and Sareen have leaned heavily into your Lover Girl branding. An affectionate term used by your fans, but now the entirety of the breadth that you work with. You’re widely known for the lovey dovey, sweet songs you write so when anything that falls outside of that mold, it isn’t stuff Danny and Sareen appreciate.
But you haven’t been able to write any of that lately. Which only makes that resoundling, crackling, heavy pressure in your head worse. Like you’re defective.
He turns around in his swivel chair, taking the little bound book you’re holding out for him, as he starts flipping through the pages. The worn down book you were gifted on your birthday years ago is filled with every mess of lyrics you’ve written, though none of them are meeting the game plan that was set weeks ago.
That announcement sent everyone on your team into a frenzy, which was so far from your initial reaction.
First of all, it was a rumor. That you were one leg away from being a triple threat. Second, if it’s true, you’re ecstatic. Enthralled and honored and every feeling in between. That you were even in the consideration for being a triple threat, let alone a few feet away from it.
No one else on your team saw it that way. Your producer, Danny, saw this as a sign that you need to be making more music and faster. The songs you make take you weeks to write at this point, no thanks to the perfectionism that comes with writing the lyrics and working out the sound. He’s set a goal for you - to write one song everyday. It makes it - that impending doom in your head - ten pounds heavier.
Your manager, Sareen, is no better. She only took this as a sign that you need to start being more vigilant. A hard-assed woman in her forties, Sareen is all about work ethic. That staying determined is the only way that you will get through this. And she’s extremely blunt when she tells you so.
Stars don’t take breaks. If you want it that badly, you have to work harder. There’s six thousand things working against you, take it as a note that you need to be running faster. That you aren’t trying hard enough. Those are equivalent to dumbbells for that rock on your head, that you’re sure is responsible for pinching all your nerves.
And it’s a matter of proving yourself. To Sareen, Danny, Eren, and everyone who watches you.
You appreciate the push. It’s extremely draining, but worth it when your song releases are so anticipated that you’re selling millions of copies before the song comes out. Have sold out stadium tours, and are shortlisted for awards nearly every time you do something.
You wake up. Get ready for the show. Memorize lines in between shows, film when you don’t have shows. Write songs on flights, produce through voice memos since you’re hardly in one place at a time.
And when you think about it all, finally being a triple threat, finally getting to hear Eren say that he told you so like you said that first night on set together, it’ll all be worth it. It’ll be over.
You can stop running. You can stroll, swim, make the music you like. So you oblige. This is part of the process, you just have to push through. There’s an end goal in sight. And being near Eren is a part of it.
“Have you ever thought about writing a song about…Ricky James?” Danny asks, swinging around in his chair as he smiles at you.
You wrinkle your nose as you throw the closest thing, an empty CD case, at Danny as he laughs back.
“Ew, Danny. That’s so not a thing.”
Ricky James, an infinite, insurmountable amount of talent, was your co-star on your last movie, Little Women. A British singer-songwriter, who virtually blew up over night.
He was nice - definitely the charismatic, flirty type of co-star. You’re positive half of it is the accent. After the two of you started doing press for Little Women, everyone was swooning over the two of you together. At how you guys had a handshake, did your famous kiss scene in one take, and how in almost every interview, he made it a point to joke that he was in love with you.
You get it. It works well for the press, gets people talking about the movie. But you could never like a guy like Ricky James. Or anyone who wasn’t Eren, for that matter.
“I know it’s not a thing. You’re all goo goo ga ga over loverboy. But it’s the same thing that we did for Little Women. He used the fact that people like to speculate to his advantage. It wouldn’t hurt to do the same.” Danny responds, shrugging.
“I already do use that to my advantage. It’s no secret that I earned my whole Lover Girl branding from writing love songs about Eren.”
“Yeah, but you know how it’s been for Eren lately. Maybe it’s not the best thing that your name is attached to him anymore? For both of you?” Danny states.
Eren’s had a rough go of it lately. After Satellite Port failed and the joke they made at the awards show last year, he’s all but resigned into what you call hiding. He said that he’s just busy, focusing on landing new roles and getting more credits under his belt. You know that he recently signed a deal with Scott Clarkson to film five movies with his studio, which is promising.
But you know Eren too well. He’s retreating, hiding in all senses of the word. From you too. The texts he used to send you - good luck before every show, a good morning even though you were on different sides of the world - have ceased all together. And the few seconds you do catch him, he seems worlds away.
And it’s not just you who has caught onto it. The last time you saw Historia, when she came to watch your show, she mentioned that she was concerned about him, that she thinks he’s being a little bit self destructive by working with Stone Studios. That Scott Clarkson is not a good idea.
Granted, Scott Clarkson is buddy buddy with John. You know that’s a touchy subject for her and made it a point to bring it up to Eren. To see if he was okay. But you were flying out for a tour and forgot to. And then he started showing up in the press again, hanging out with the cast he’s been working with, so you figured it was fine. That he’s going out again, smiling in photos.
“That-that’s not true. He’s on the come up - he’s going to be the lead in the Gatsby remake that Stone Studios is doing. I’m sure he’ll get an award for it.”
“There’s no need to get defensive. I’m just saying it doesn’t hurt to expand your horizons. Triple threats are awarded for being versatile, not sticking with what’s easy. Maybe you just need to push the boundary of what you think you can do.” he says, giving your forehead a tap.
“It kind of feels like cheating to write a song about someone that’s not him.” you murmur, looking down at the pages in your hand. Eren’s handwriting is scribbled onto the invisible string page. Hell was the journey but it brought me heaven.
“You know, Sareen’s not too keen about this relationship. And I know that Eren’s team isn’t either.” Danny states.
“Who are they to tell us who we can date?”
“It’s not about who you can date. It-it’s about the image. Tying your name to his doesn’t exactly always work in your favor, Y/N. There’s no loyalty in an industry like this. And for Eren’s case, you’ve never really helped him in that sense. When you stand together, with the success you’ve had, all they see is a failure in Eren, when he’s really not even that bad.”
“People’s comparisons aren’t my fault. And Eren’s doing fine, he-he’s okay.”
“Now, he is. But a few months ago, it was your name next to his that was dragging him down. If it comes down to triple threats and it’s between you and him, are you telling me that you would really pick him over you?”
Yes. One thousand times, yes. Though you know that’s not the answer Danny wants.
“You have to be more selfish, Y/N. And maybe that’s selfless for Eren's sake too. There isn’t room for the both of you, right now. I know you love him, but Sareen has a point. Is working this hard worth it if you don’t get what you want out of it? You and Eren have all the time in the world to be together, just focus on your career before him.”
You frown, staring at the wrinkles pressed up against his forehead.
“You can have what you want - have your cake and eat it too, write all these corny love songs about him after you make it. Stop running when you’re actually there, kid.”
You look down at the pages, the thoughts floating through your mind, as the lyrics start spilling out. For your first song that’s not about Eren.
London Boy.
--
You try to make a point to call Eren before releases. Key word, try.
But it doesn’t happen that way. Because Eren’s in Los Angeles and you’re in Tokyo and the time difference messes the two of you up so bad that when they surprise drop London Boy, you don’t get to warn Eren beforehand.
And when he texts you about it, you can feel the guilt creeping into your chest. Because you know he’s too nice to say what he actually thinks about it. If it were you, you’d wring Eren’s neck out for writing a song like this about his co-star he’s rumored to be dating. But Eren is Eren and he would never.
eren: “he likes my american smile?” babe, you’re canadian.
eren: i like the song. really.
you: i have dual citizenship.
you: eren. i’m so so sorry. i meant to tell you before but the time differences, we just kept missing each other. you know i don’t mean any of it, right?
you: it’s just a marketing thing danny and sareen planned. the song will be a hit if people are speculating who it’s about and stuff.
eren: i figured. you don’t have to explain yourself to me!!!!
eren: you’re a pop princess <3
eren: and currently number one on the billboard hot 100 for the fourth time in a row!!!
You nearly throw your phone across the room at the notifications, the frustration building so hard that it’s all pouring out of your head. You can see the stack of gifts at the front of the room - candies from Falco and Colt, as well as Marco, Historia, and Reiner - for the release.
And it’s moments like this, when you’ve been running so fast and pushing so hard, that you resort to one of your worst tendencies. Because the only thing that helps you when you feel like this is being a masochist. Feeling bad only makes you want to feel worse. Like you deserve it.
So you inflict it on yourself. By reading what people say about you online.
You reach back for your phone - ignoring the messages from Armin, Bertholdt, and Levi - as you scroll to Twitter, hiding the light of the phone under your sheets as you look through the app.
You look at the trending tab. Y/N L/N, London Boy, Ricky James, Eren Jaeger, and love is dead are trending.
You press your bolded name and swipe to the recents tab, scrolling through every tweet, each one categorizing, sticking in your mind as you scroll. A mix of the good, the bad, and the ugly.
That you’re pretty. That you’re ugly. That you have no personality, that you write mediocre songs, that you’re the best actress from Attack on Titan. That you’re lucky for bagging Ricky James and Eren, that you’re too good for Eren, that you’re horrible for writing the song.
You place the phone flat on the sheets, the absence of light making your eyes sting, as the tears string out of your eyes.
You want to make your cake and eat it too.
But is it even worth it if this is how you have to get there?
--
You stick your hand out, swinging it in the air with Ricky as you do your handshake, and plop onto the couch. Danny and Sareen called a meeting with Ricky’s team before you guys went to the wrap party for The Proposal, which is the only thing on your calendar that you were actually looking forward to this month.
Because Annie and Armin are the leads and because you know Levi and Hange are going to be there.
“This is Michael and Nancy. They’re my talent managers.” Ricky states, pointing out the two people across from you.
“Sareen and Danny. Sareen’s my manager and Danny’s my producer.”
“Is he behind the genius of London Boy?” Ricky asks, smirking at you.
“Shut up. London Boy isn’t about you, Ricky.”
“Oh, shut up. I know I’m your muse.”
The line sits in your stomach wrong, because all you can think about is Eren. Seventeen year old Eren, shimmering green eyes on that empty set when you wrote New Year’s Day. You shake your head as Danny turns to the two of you, a smile on his face.
“We have an idea.” Danny states, a smile on his face.
You and Ricky nod as Nancy and Sareen start laying out the plan, each consecutive word twisting horribly in your stomach.
Surely they can’t be serious.
“We think that the two of you should date, as a PR move.” Sareen states, handing over a folder to you.
There’s dates listed out, public places where they want you and Ricky to meet at, and songs they want you to release about each other. All down to the slated releases, ideas for album covers, and interviews they want you to do.
“This is part of Y/N’s triple threat campaign. I think putting in this whole ruse of a relationship and writing songs about it, especially if there’s some part of it that will be drama because of Eren and Lana, it’s even better.”
“Lana?” you ask.
“She’s Ricky’s old girlfriend. They aren’t dating anymore, which is something that we should capitalize on. For the both of you. This should get Ricky into the leagues for the Album of the Year award when he releases next year.” Nancy states, flipping through the pages.
You look over at Ricky, ready to fully shut down the idea. But when you turn your head to him, he’s flipping through the pages, writing down his own ideas in the folder.
“Ricky. You’re not actually considering this, are you?” you whisper.
“You aren’t?”
“I’m dating Eren. No, I’m not considering fake dating you for the press.”
“Eren, who was seen on a date with Myka yesterday? Right.” he states bluntly, flipping through the pages.
“That’s just tabloids, Ricky. Be serious.”
“And so is this. Myka and Eren are in a movie together. You and I are musicians. You can do the same thing as him and I bet you he wouldn’t even care. And he shouldn’t, because your career comes first.” Ricky states, leaning forward on his knees to discuss more with Danny and Sareen.
You flip through the folder again, each consecutive page filled with more and more details of how they want you and Ricky to pretend. And the last page has the words bolded, little stars around them.
Y/N gets triple threat status! Ricky gets Album of the Year!
“Y/N. Have your cake and eat it too.” Danny warns, a reminder of what you’re supposed to be prioritizing.
“This is the time to run, Y/N. You’re almost there.” Sareen affirms, the two of them nodding as they look at you.
And by the way five of them are staring at you, big eyes filled with anticipation as they wait for your response, you know you can’t say no. That insurmountable pressure - to please, to be successful, to be the best - wins out, every time.
Danny’s produced for three different hit pop stars. Sareen’s managed some of the biggest names in the industry. And you have no idea who Nancy and Michael even are, but if they’re working with Ricky, they’ve got to be in the big leagues.
You put the folder down, giving all of them a nod, as they all erupt into cheers. Ricky leans forward to give you a kiss on the cheek, which you tell him to save for the cameras, as you take the folder and walk out.
And figure out how you’re going to tell Eren.
--
You head to the wrap party three hours later and any excitement you had about the event is immediately drained when you know that Eren’s going to be there and you have to talk to him about it. Break up with him.
“Y/N!”
You turn around to find Armin and Annie, the two of them wrapping their arms around you as they press kisses to your cheeks. You try to stifle the literal tears that are making their way to your eyes at the sight of them, their blue eyes the same soft ones you’ve always known.
“Annie. Armin. I’m so excited for the movie, I’m sure it’s going to be great.” you say, squeezing both of their hands.
Two of your shyest friends still, they’re both blushing at the praise as Connie and Sasha walk up. You’re wrapping your arms around all of them, as everyone else - Reiner, Mikasa, and Jean - join you.
“So Y/N. London Boy, huh?” Connie asks, smirking.
“Did you guys know that Eren is from London?” Sasha says, sarcastically.
“Oh, quit it. It’s just one of those PR things. The triple threat thing made them all go crazy.” you respond.
“We respect the hustle, Y/N.” Connie states, mock saluting you with Jean.
“There is no press better than you and Eren releasing Medicine and Dress on the same day.” Mikasa states, earning a bunch of laughter from the group.
“Oh god. Don’t remind me. Whore move, from the both of you.” Reiner says, pinching your cheek. Connie mocks the ah ah ah, from Dress, which has you all laughing.
You smack his hand off as Marco slings his hand around your shoulders, squeezing hard and smiling at you so big, in earnest, that it makes your chest hurt.
“Can you believe it? You’re so close to it, Y/N - I can feel it.” Marco says, leaning forward to press a kiss onto your cheek.
You reach up to squish the plush of his cheek as Marco mimics your movements, the two of you smiling at each other. And then you feel two warm hands on your shoulder and turn around to see Eren, soft green eyes looking into yours.
And it makes you burst into tears. Soft green eyes, albeit a little tired looking, and Eren’s hair all grown out. When did Eren grow his hair out to his Season Three length? The last time you saw him, it was so short. He looks the same. He feels far away. And that pressure in your head is resounding.
“Yeesh.” Connie says at the sight of your spilling tears, earning quiet laughs from everyone.
Eren brings his hand up to your cheek, swiping the wetness away, as he glares at Connie.
“Connie.” Eren warns, the tone in his voice threatening.
“Sorry. Just missed him, that’s all.” you respond, wiping the last of the wetness off your face as they all smile at you.
“Man, every time I see one of you, you’re crying.” Hange says from behind you, the group of you turning your heads and immediately tackling them and Levi into hugs. Eren reaches for Hange first and you go for Levi, his stupid minty smell making your tears return.
You look up at Levi, who's glaring at you, and can’t help but smile.
“Levi. You could at least pretend you’re happy to see me.”
“I am happy to see you. But not when you’re crying in public. You two are going to give me an ulcer.” he states, frowning as he glares at Eren at your side.
You look over at Eren, the end of what Hange said catching up with you.
“You cried in front of them? About what, Eren?” you ask, voice soft.
“Ah. Nothing.” Eren responds, cheeks lightly pink as he runs his hand through his hair.
You both let go of Hange and Levi as Armin and Annie take to the makeshift stage, giving a little speech about their time on the film and how grateful they are for everyone in the room for supporting them. And as they do, Eren jabs his elbow into your side.
“Ow. What gives?” you whisper.
Eren places hand on his chest, feigning shock.
“Don’t tell me you forgot our secret hand signals already?” he whispers.
Jab in the side. Meaning, you need a second to talk, away from everyone.
“As if.” you respond, giving a nod to his sign.
He gives you a smile as you both turn your heads back to Annie and Armin, who are playing the trailer on the screen now. And when they finish, the resounding noise of the claps are the last thing you and Eren hear when you go out to the balcony, the cold air surrounding you both.
You wrap your hands around your arms, which Eren picks up on too fast and suddenly he’s taking his coat off and wrapping it around you. Making a point to pull your hair out of the collar, hands focused on fixing your hair around your face.
“Eren.”
“Yes?”
“I-”
The words die on your tongue. Because here he is, the perfect green eyes you fell in love with staring at you in the lamplight of the dark, and you can’t say it. You can’t shatter his heart into pieces or be the one to let him go.
When he’s one of the only things you’ve wanted.
“I know how you feel, Y/N. You don’t have to say it.” he whispers, hands tucking your hair behind your ears before letting go.
You can feel the tears spilling out of your eyes as you frown at him, the look on his face so pained that it hurts.
“I’m guessing they don’t want you to see me, at least not for right now?” Eren asks.
You nod, aggressively wiping away the wetness on your cheeks as you reach for his hands, squeezing three times. You hate that he knows. That Danny and Sareen think he isn’t good enough for you. When you’ve always been the one who was never in the same league as him.
That Eren was the one who defended you when you were there, but no one’s letting you do it for him.
“I still love you, Eren. You-you know that?”
“I know that.” he whispers, nodding. His eyes are focused on your hands, interlocked with his. He reaches in for your bicep, fingers tracing over the fish tattoo right above your elbow.
“Fishbowl, Y/N. We’ll come back to each other when it’s time. Just don’t be a stranger.” he says.
You nod, reaching forward and wrapping your arms around him as you nearly sob into his chest, his voice soothing your hiccuping, even though you’re the one who just smashed him into pieces. And when Eren wraps his hands around your cheeks, giving you one last lingering kiss, before walking away, you can’t help but sit there in the cold, his jacket wrapped around you and letting the tears bite on your skin.
--
You close your phone, giving Ricky a glowing smile, as you both settle into your seats at the Institute Music Awards. The two of you officially went public earlier today, though you’re both still denying any rumors that you’re dating.
“How does Ricky compare to Eren?”
You try to hide your scoff as you answer, trying your best to stay neutral in your response to avoid becoming a headline the next day.
“I’ll always have so much love for Eren. We grew up together and really came into this hand in hand and no one could ever really take that away. And there’s no bad blood between us, we’ll always be best friends.” you respond, giving them a polite smile as you walk away and swallow hard.
You can see Eren twenty feet down, in a specially designed suit that he looks wonderful in, smiling for the cameras. He’s standing in between Hyla and Myka, since their film is premiering in a few days.
“You look green, doll.”
You turn around to find Sukuna, who you fake punch in the shoulder and glare at, before pulling him in for a hug.
“You sure you’re not talking about yourself? That’s your girl down there.”
“Jesus, Y/N. Don’t ever associate me with her again.” Sukuna mutters, rolling his eyes.
“Oh? Was it not you saying she wasn’t that bad when we were kids?” you tease, poking into the soft of his cheek.
“Well, that was before I found everything out. I’d say a prayer for your boy over there, he’s about to get himself into a gnarly mess he won’t be able to get out of.” Sukuna responds, eyes focused on Eren and Hyla posing together a few feet down.
“What do you mean?” you ask, linking your arm with his as the two of you walk down, past him. You make it a point to attempt to make eye contact with Eren, but he’s too focused on Hyla that he misses you all together.
“I just mean…he’s about to get himself involved in things he shouldn’t. And you should stay far away.” Sukuna states, giving Ricky a polite smile as he joins you at your side. Sukuna gives you one last kiss on the cheek before Ricky links his arm with yours, dragging you to your seats.
You both settle into the seats, giving Marco a big smile as he sits next to you.
“Hey. Where’s Hisu? I saw her name card here earlier but it’s not here anymore.” you whisper, as the lights start dimming ahead.
Marco winces, giving you an awkward smile as he puts his hand over yours and squeezes.
“She doesn’t want to sit with Ricky. Or you.”
“Oh.”
“Just for today, Y/N. Because of the history and all that, you-you know that.”
You shake your head, ignoring the stinging, as you give Marco a half-hearted smile, nodding.
“No yeah. I get it. I’ll talk to her soon.”
“Okay.” Marco responds, giving you a smile.
You make it a point to do your best throughout the awards show, fake whispering in Ricky’s ears every time the camera is on you two, holding hands and comparing hand sizes, letting him tuck your hair behind your ear once and a while.
And it’s all going great and peachy, until Hyla gets called on stage to perform. You crane your neck back to find Sukuna, giving him a warning glance as he rolls his eyes, making the motion that he’s choking himself.
One of the most insane things about Hyla and Sukuna’s beef? The fact that they perform and write songs about each other, that are so insanely written, that they trend for weeks.
You’re sure Hyla and Sukuna are what Danny and Sareen dream about in their free time.
Hyla gets on stage, giving everyone a soft smile as a few of the girls join her on stage, adjusting their microphones. You can feel Ricky squeezing your hand hard, his jaw clenched.
“You good?”
“The lineup. Hyla, Myka, and Lana.” he responds, glaring at the three of them.
You focus your eyes on the third girl, Lana, who is Ricky’s ex-girlfriend. The only reason he wants to fake date you. Apparently, the two of them broke up after you and Ricky started trending, her insecurities about the people’s words overruling any reassurance that Ricky could give her.
“This is my new song, it’s called Girlfriend. I hope you all like it.” Hyla says, giving a smile as the upbeat music starts.
Hey, hey, you, you  I don’t like your girlfriend  No way, no way I think you need a new one Hey, hey, you, you I could be your girlfriend
You lean back as you observe the visuals and the line of backup dancers supporting the three of them singing, their performance extremely upbeat and punk pop star that you can’t help but tap your feet to the beat of the song.
That’s until they reach the bridge. When Hyla pulls one of the back-up dancers from the background to the front and Lana pulls Eren on stage, the two of them are seated on the makeshift chairs on the stage. Hyla’s singing around Eren, rolling her eyes at the back-up dancer.
Who's wearing the exact outfit that you wear on your tour, a sparkly, billowing pink dress. And when you take her in properly, you realize that she’s supposed to be you. The same hairstyle, eye color, skin tone. You can feel your throat dry as you watch Eren’s cheeks tinted pink on stage as Hyla sings around him, the entire audience erupting into cheers.
(Oh) In a second, you'll be wrapped around my finger  'Cause I can, 'cause I can do it better There's no other, so when's it gonna sink in? She's so stupid, what the hell were you thinkin'?
You feel Marco’s hand on yours, squeezing hard, as you focus in on the performance, trying to ignore the fact that the big, black camera is shining on your face and that everyone in the room is looking at you. And that millions of people must be talking about it at home. You turn back to give Levi a look and he shakes his head, mouthing don’t cry which you halfheartedly nod in response too.
Jean and Armin have switched seats with the two girls behind you, their hands on your shoulders, squeezing, as Eren and Hyla walk off stage, hand in hand past the back up dancer who’s supposed to be you - who's crying fake buckets of tears now.
And when it’s all done and over, you skip the afterparties and let Mikasa drive you home. She tucks you into your sheets, making it a point to help you wipe all your makeup off and leave a bottle of water by your bed, you sink into your sheets and do it again. Let that overwhelming, embarrassing, deep rooted hatred sink in.
And pull up Twitter. Read about how everyone hates you. Relive the most embarrassing thing that’s happened to you yet. Stare at pictures of Eren and Hyla and ignore the resounding sound of the applause the two of them received.

Chapter 1: November
Tumblr media
☾ Pairings ➼ Levi Ackerman x fem!mute!Reader (she/her pronouns), set in a modern semi-fictional world
☾ Summary ➼ Due to childhood trauma, you find yourself an adult without the ability to speak. After years of working on it, you have found ways to live without a voice. Now here in your late 20s, you are 5 months in getting used to a new town. On a fateful day in late November, you and your adopted sister visit a local bookstore-café, unaware of the friendships about to blossom. Throughout the months, one friendship in particular develops into something more.
☾ Content/Warnings ➼ fluff, slowburn, oblivious feelings, angst, mention of minor character deaths, trauma, illness, adoption, mentions of fire, disabilities, alcohol use, very light nsfw mentions, eventual smut (these update with every chapter)
☾ Author's note ➼ Hey guys! This is my first time writing fanfiction in a loooooong time, like the last time I wrote was probably in 2011. So with that said please be kind with any feedback or comments. I hope you enjoy! (also I made Hange's pronouns she/her/them/they)
Edit (11/27/2023): Hey guys, welcome to my little world of Unspoken Words. I have quite literally used this story as a way to better myself as a writer. As you read on, you may find that I've progressed (ofc I have a long way to go) but because of that, my first few chapters might be rough. With your patience, you may find a liking to this story as I know I've loved writing every word of it.

20-something years ago
You’re not sure how, but you find yourself sitting in the back of a big, white van. Red and blue lights danced in your eyes, and it felt like a thousand people surrounded you. Something plastic is placed on your face then you are instructed to breathe in deeply. You thought it was funny to be told to breathe, like you don’t just do it naturally, but you follow instructions regardless. It’s hard though, every part of your body hurts, chest included. Every breath you take feels like your insides are on fire.
‘Fire’, you think.
Everything is on fire.
Present Day
Levi stood blank faced as he meticulously cleaned the blender station for what felt like the 100th time today. The late afternoon rush had just tapered down so he took advantage of the next to empty café to clean as much as he could before closing for the evening.
“It’s 20 degrees outside, how are people still wanting frozen drinks.” he murmurs to himself, placing the blender back in its spot. Levi turns to the front counter and slings the towel he was using to dry things onto his shoulder.
His best friend, roommate, and business partner could be seen restocking some books on tall shelves, a gentle smile lighting up his boyish features. It’s been about a year and a half since they started this business venture together and they had no idea at the time how successful their bookstore-café combo would be in this small town.
Erwin’s thirst for knowledge kept their shelves as variable as ever while Levi’s love for perfecting the art of tea kept the drinks flowing. The problem, however, was Levi’s lack of people skills. He was seldom seen at the register, nor would you ever see him smile or talk to the customers. He often would leave you with a grunt and a swift turn after handing off the drinks.
No, for that, they had hired a couple of local highschoolers to do the facing work.
“Mr. Smith, Levi?” a soft voice rang out to the left of him. Levi shifted his attention to a taller girl with shoulder length raven hair standing next to him. Being as Mikasa is his cousin, they found early on how weird it was to be called ‘Mr. Ackerman’ as they shared the same surname. It was this connection too that got them to where they are today.
“Would it be okay if Eren and I take off a little early tonight? We have some big tests coming up and we’d like to take some extra time to study.” Mikasa shifted her dark eyes to the darkening windows as the sun set just over the horizon. Pinks and oranges flooded the partially clouded skies.
”Tch.” Levi could not help but roll his eyes. He raised a brow at her and leaned back against the counter behind him for support. “Sure, I guess,” he continues. “But do you really need it or is it for that blockhead?”
As if summoned by his words, Eren comes up from behind Mikasa and wraps a red scarf around his girlfriend’s neck, both of their jackets hanging off one of his arms. Eren is a good kid, always on time and followed directions, but the amount of sass he held in his body was something else. Levi and Erwin did not mind though, as he added a certain energy in the café that the customers seemed to enjoy. The two men wouldn’t say it out loud, but they really appreciated having them both on the team.
“Hey, I heard that. And yes, I need to study desperately. Econ is so hard and for what?!” Eren’s teal eyes widened for emphasis. To add to it he even put on a fake pout.
“I-”
“Just take the trash with you on the way out and you’re good to go.” Erwin piped up from behind a bookshelf.
Mikasa nodded in acknowledgement towards the voice, a silent thank you. Like Levi, she was not one for many words. He once thought it was an Ackerman thing but then he thought back to his annoying uncle and changed his mind quickly.
With that, she and Eren both untangled the aprons from their bodies, grabbed their belongings, and picked up the trash bags that were already taken out of the cans. They opted to leave through the back since the dumpsters were located that way. Again, Levi wouldn’t say it to anyone out loud, but he really did like those kids.
Erwin could be heard stacking more books into the shelves which left Levi to polish the counters again. It was the last hour before they closed so it stayed quiet for the most part, only interrupted by the sounds of scuffling shoes and books being placed on hard surfaces. Light jazz filled the rest of the silence. Then the bell signifying new customers rang from the front.
“Levi, can you grab that?”
The raven-haired man just huffed in response then stepped over to the register. His eyes fell on two figures right in front of him. A frazzled brunette and... you.
Due to the season, you are bundled up in a thick parka and knitted beanie. A big scarf wraps around your neck and face so that all Levi could see is your flushed cheeks and thick lashed eyes. Truthfully, you reminded him of a marshmallow.
“What’ll it be?” he asks, deadpan. The brunette is the one to respond, the voice loud enough to make him wince.
“Hmmm... well one English breakfast tea latte with lots of room for sugar aaaaand I’ll take a peppermint hot chocolate. Oh, and extra whip! We’ll drink it here.” She fished out a card with a dramatic thwip and handed it to Levi’s outstretched hand.  Their café is one of those where if you were to stay, they offered washable cup ware as to keep the prices down on disposable cups. Not to mention the lessened ‘environmental impact’ as Erwin would say.
Levi glances at you before turning to make both orders. You give a small wave and smile a little, but he was already working quickly on the drinks.
He went into autopilot as he steeped the tea and steamed the milk. He really appreciated customers that ordered anything outside of coffee, especially when it came to tea. It’s not that he hated coffee, though it’s not like he liked it either, but it just wasn’t his thing. Coffee offered a different kind of bitterness that he wasn’t very fond of. With extra whipped cream in one and extra space in the other, he whirled around to place the drinks on the counter.
The one with glasses is the one that picks them up and they promptly walk in the direction of where you currently sit, one of the tables in the back corner by the window. You were stripped of your big parka and scarf, though the beanie stayed. Your eyes were wandering around the café in wonder, and Levi was pretty sure this had to be your first time here. But truthfully, he wouldn’t know, he didn’t make it his business to know his customers. That was Erwin’s and the kids’ job.
“The shelves are full and I’m exhausted.” Erwin came around the counter with a couple of empty boxes in his arms, heading straight for the back to the dumpster. Levi stepped back and leaned against the counter once again, his own black tea that had steeped while making yours cradled in his fingertips. He kept looking at his only customers while he sipped the black liquid. The teacup almost slipped out of his grip as he saw you dumping a large amount of sugar into your cup.
There you sit, extremely focused on the cup in front of you and lips pressed together tightly, almost as if you were afraid you’d put in too much. The sight would have been funny if you hadn’t just ruined your entire tea, he thinks to himself. You smile to yourself in satisfaction and put the sugar jar back where it came from. While you stir the sweetener in gently, the brunette in front of you talks animatedly. Hands were flying everywhere, and Levi could practically feel the energy radiating from the corner of the room.  You were doing the same, silently laughing.
Suddenly the front door flew open, the bell ringing loudly with it. Levi grits his teeth, steeling himself for yet another customer interaction. But his shoulders dropped in relief at the sight of only Carly, Erwin’s girlfriend. She saunters up to the counter with a big smile aimed towards Levi and without even asking she slid behind the bar. Erwin had already made it from the back and was in the process of putting away the leftover ingredients from the day. Carly wraps her arms around her boyfriend and plants a big kiss on his face, to which Levi quickly looks away. It wasn’t weird for her to come in right as they were about to close.
What was weird, he thought, was the shock that flooded your face as you eyed the very public display of affection. Levi knit his brows in confusion as the brunette pivoted in her seat to see what you were staring at. Their face fell, any evidence of a good time completely erased.
“Carly?”
The person in question whipped around so fast at the voice and the panic that exuded from her was palpable. She quickly unwrapped herself from Erwin’s embrace.
“Hange.”
If it wasn’t for the jazz in the background, the lengthy silence that followed would have been deathly.
Carly clears her throat and laughs awkwardly.
“Uh, why are you here?”
The person named Hange just lifts their hot chocolate cup awkwardly, not really saying anything. Their eyes shift between Carly and Erwin, clearly understanding what had happened.
“I-I’m sorry, you guys know each other?” Erwin sounds cautious, like he already knew the answer. Of course, he would, he isn’t dumb. His piercing blue eyes survey the situation, going back and forth between the two.
“Well, uh. I-” Carly stutters, clearly at a loss of what to say in the predicament she found herself in.
“She’s my girlfriend.” Hange claims calmly.
This admission makes Erwin sigh heavily, confirming what he had pieced together. Levi stared at him in bewilderment as the man just chuckled quietly.
“Well. I suppose that’s it then.” And with that he turns on his heel and stalks off to the back room.
“Wait, Erwin I can explain!” She follows right on his heels and disappears into the back room as well. A minute later you can hear hysterical crying and calm retorts reverberating from the back. If Levi could shrink into the cabinets to get out of this situation, he would. Instead, he focuses on the other party who were having a very quiet and rushed discussion. Well, a one-sided discussion, as he only heard one voice.
Levi, realizing it was almost time to close anyways, rushes to close the distance between him and the front door. He really did not want to have to deal with other customers while the drama unfurled. So, he flips the door sign to ‘Closed’ and unplugs the ‘Open’ neon sign hanging in the window. A couple walks by about to open the door, probably out for a café date from the looks of it. But they were only met with a dead stare from the sharpest eyes they’d ever seen. With that, they briskly turned around and left down the sidewalk.
Levi spins around and from here he gets a better look at the two trapped customers. You were moving your hands all over the place like you were earlier. But with an even closer look he realizes you weren’t just talking animatedly with your hands; you were talking with them. You were signing.
You reacted to your partner’s conversation just fine, so it was clear you had some sort of hearing. Your scarf now hung loose around your shoulders, and it looked like you had tears brimming in your eyes. Levi swiftly walks back to the counter; this is obviously not a conversation he needed to be a part of.
“Hey, don’t worry about me. It’s only been a couple of months. Really, it’s better to find out now than 3 years from now.” They laughed without humor. You know when Hange was saving face for your sake, she was never as sly as she thought she was.
‘You don’t need to be strong right now.’ You sign then reach your hand out to touch her cheek softly. Physical touch had become your second language early on, if only to emphasize. Fortunately, Hange was okay with that and often embraced it with open arms.
“I know, my little strawberry. I just need some time to process everything.” They pat you on the head lightly with a small grin. You swat their hands, blushing at the nickname you were so graciously given so many years ago.  But you nod back, knowing they would not change their mind.
The tall blonde glides through the back door, alone. His face was grim as he tugged loose the tie around his neck.
“Hange, was it?” He started walking towards you and your very startled sister.
“U-uh yeah. That’s my name! Listen I had no idea, I’m so sorry. I would have said something obviously but-”, they take a deep breath. “I’m sorry. What’s your name again?”
“Erwin Smith. There is nothing to apologize for as I can only assume there’s only one blame to be given. I hate that we must meet under such a circumstance, but it is truly nice to meet you.” He raises a hand waiting for a handshake.
Hange takes it after a second of processing, shaking the hand vigorously with both hands.
“Well, unfortunately it is what it is. I’m sure Carly and I will be speaking soon. I’m assuming she’s not just hiding back there.” They flick their gaze to the back door he had just come through.
“Ah well, yes. Long gone... how long were you two...?”
“Only like, 3 months or so. You?”
He flinched at that and murmured, “3 Years.”
Thinking back to her comment not 10 minutes ago, Hange bit their cheek.
“Oh man I’m so sorry.”
“No, please. It’s alright. None of this is yours or my fault. We couldn’t have known, but now we do.” Erwin chuckled to himself. You wonder if he’s trying to save face the way your sister did. His gaze now shifts to you. He is a very handsome man. To your extreme surprise, he starts signing to you.
‘I'm sorry, who might you be? I noticed you signing earlier. I know a little from the books I have read.’ His crystal blue eyes sparkle at you as he signs. You can’t help but break out into a huge grin. You sign your name back and compliment him on his raw signing form.
‘I am of hearing, though. So please feel free to talk, and I will sign back.’ You clarify to Erwin, the smile not falling from your face.
“That sounds like a plan. Levi, stop hiding behind the counter and come say hi.” Erwin calls out, not bothering to look over his shoulder. You hear a grunt in response and not 10 seconds later, the barista stands cross armed next Erwin. He nods a hello to each of you.
You knew he was shorter than you, at least a couple inches, based off the interaction at the counter earlier. But seeing him side by side with his friend was almost comical. But as short stature as he was, it did not keep him from holding himself with such authority. It made you nervous.
‘Thank you for the tea, it was very good.’ You sign, your sister translating in real time for you.
“Tch, are you sure? I saw you dump enough sugar in it to make it syrup.” Levi retorts dryly.
That makes you smile sheepishly. His fixated stare unnerved you a little, but you stare back regardless. Now that he was closer, a glass case no longer between the both of you, your eyes traveled along his face in close inspection.
He’s beautiful, you think to yourself. His features are sharp and angled. Steely gray eyes pronounced a permanent exhausted look. It was a shade of gray you’ve never seen before, and they were mesmerizing. As if he could feel you staring holes in his face, he flicks his eyes to the side, clearly uncomfortable. But you can’t help it, because really the most intriguing thing about him was not his metallic eyes. It was the scars that marred his porcelain skin.
A couple of scars ran down the right side of his face. The prominent of the two trailed from the top right of his forehead all the way down to his chin, cutting into his right eye and both lips. You’re pretty sure his eye was quite damaged due to the slight muted discoloration of the eye color.
He’s beautiful, you repeat to yourself. You glance over to Hange, and they just look over at you with a knowing look. You know she was just begging to ask Levi too, but she just shakes her head. So, you fold your hands together and pinch your lips together.
“Well!” Hange yells out, breaking the silence. “This human really needs a drink. Let’s all go! Erwin, I demand you let me treat you to a couple drinks!” She wraps an arm around your shoulders and laughs.
“A drink sounds fantastic; I will gladly take you up on that offer. Let me just close up rea-” He’s cut off by Levi raising both of his hands up in protest. You notice the two missing fingers on his right hand. The pointer and middle were gone. Whatever this man went through, you just had to know. But you toss those questions onto an ever-growing pile and bite your cheek.
“Erwin, I can close up. You go ahead.” Your sister just smiles widely and practically jumped up and down. The blonde man just clapped his hand Levi’s shoulder and smiled at him.
“Thank you. You’ll join us after? The usual place?” Levi just shrugs his shoulders in response.
Part of you hoped he would. You couldn’t place a singular reason why though.
.
Fifteen minutes later, the three of you found yourselves in a well-lit and very crowded bar. Somehow Erwin had snagged a table near the back wall. Heavy rock blares loudly from a live band maybe 20 feet away. Overwhelming was an understatement, but you grit your teeth and sit down on one of the stools.
“Whatcha want, my darlings?!” Hange yells over the music, slapping both hands down on the table and staring at the both of you.
“Whiskey neat, whatever they offer is fine.”
You sign the words ‘apple’ and ‘juice’ followed by a ‘thank you’. You’ve never been one for a drink. While it was tolerable to be around, you’d rather not have to taste it if you could help it.
Looking around, you see all manners of people surrounding you. Something about it makes your stomach turn but you shift in your seat to quell it down. You’re sure it’s only so crowded because of the prospect of a Friday night and the promise of no plans the following day. The town of Jinae was not anything special, but it was quaint. You and your sister found out quickly it was a place where everyone knew mostly everyone. After only settling down here from your hometown 5 months ago, you were still learning of all the local spots.
From the looks of it, this bar was one of those. “The Scouts” was an inviting place, decorated with dark greens and wood tones. The walls were littered with many frames of a lot of different people. You imagine it might have been local residents in various locations of the town. All of the wood was worn down, so it was clear this place has been in business for a while. A neon sign hangs above the stage where the live band played, something that resembled blue and white wings. It makes you wonder what the significance is.
Your thoughts are disturbed as a glass is placed in front of you. Realizing the dryness in your throat, you pick up the glass and take a big swig of the amber liquid. You’re met with a burning sensation, and you gag. This alerts Hange of the unfortunate mistake.
“Ah I’m sorry my little strawberry!! They do look quite similar though, don’t they?” They switch the glasses quickly and laugh. You notice the very noticeable cup size differences between the two and you stare at her quizzically. “I may have taken a shot while at the bar, sorry.” she adds on. It makes you shake your head, but you grab her hand reassuringly and chuckle.
‘I’m sorry.’ You sign at Erwin, and he just smiles back.
“Not a problem. But I have to ask, how was it?” A bushy eyebrow raises at you in amusement.
You just stick your tongue out and make a gagging gesture at him. You laugh though, not really upset.
Two apple juices in, the live band ends. Hange and Erwin are very deep in conversation, which you suspect might be about Carly. You can’t really hear what’s being said though. With the absence of music, chatter quickly fills the air. Honestly it was really starting to get to you. So, after tapping on the pair’s shoulders and signing where you were going, you find yourself leaning over the guard rail just outside the bar’s door.
The sun was already far gone. A crescent moon sits high in the sky and a smatter of stars surrounds it. The cold air felt very welcome on your very flushed face. You exhale a big sigh, which garners a puff of steam. It makes you laugh so you do it again. Then you start to wonder how long you might be able to last out here before getting frostbite when suddenly a body starts leaning against the rail next to you.
With a start, you whip your head to face the newcomer. Instantly you relax at the sight of Erwin’s friend. He was adorned in a big peacoat and his casual slacks. A tan turtleneck sweater peaks out from the jacket’s collar. His face was flushed as well, no doubt from the cold.
Levi.
He wasn’t paying you any mind though, instead his gaze laid upon the sky above, at the stars. You wave at him anyways and offer a small smile. He glances at you with a side eye and returns a curt nod.
Not one for words.
So, you both stand there in silence, staring up at the twinkling lights above. It wasn’t uncomfortable in the slightest. Something about his presence radiated a sort of calm, and you were happy to bask in it.
After a few minutes, he shifts his weight in your direction, so you face him. He’s staring up at you and it makes you swallow hard. His eyes glowed silver from the moonlight. Truly you have never been this fascinated with a person until now.
“You like the stars.” It wasn’t a question, more like a statement.
You nod in agreement, smiling to emphasize your love for them. He purses his lips at that. It seemed as if he wanted to say something else to that, but nothing came out. It just makes you frown a bit. You just have more questions that keep piling up. Everything about him just emanated mystery and it made you want to know all about him.
‘Are you okay?’ You sign to him, exaggerating your frown to show your concern. You’re only met with a look of confusion. You forget that he does not know much if any sign. And you kick yourself for leaving your communication tools at home. To be fair though, this is not where you expected to be tonight.
You then get an idea to use your phone to type to him but before you even reach into your pocket, you’re interrupted by a sudden blast of warm air as a couple stumbles out of the bar, both in a giggling fit as they cling to each other. They take off down the road, laughing even harder. The brief warm air makes you shiver, reminding you of the cold outside.
As if thinking the same thing, Levi catches the door before it closes and holds it open for the both of you. You’re suddenly well aware of the very loud singing happening from within and your eyes widen at the familiarity of one of the voices. You and Levi make your way to the voices and are greeted with the sight of Erwin and Hange duetting a Backstreet Boys song.
What a sight it was. The tall brunette, face flushed and glasses askew, had their arm around Erwin. He his blonde hair was quite tousled, and he looked like he was having the time of his life. They both swayed together as they belted out the lyrics. As if their smiles were contagious, you felt yourself grin. It was kind of cute. So, you pull out your phone and snap a quick picture, sure to show Hange in the morning. It was a good thing too, because the song ends right as you put your phone away in your bag. Levi clicks his tongue and huffs. You glance over at the noise and notice a small upturn to the corner of his scarred mouth. Noticing your gaze, his face vacates itself from any emotion as he stares back ahead.
“Oi! Eyebrows!” He calls out to his friend. Levi starts making his way to the stage, walking with a slight limp. Yet another question to add onto the pile. “I’m gone for 45 minutes and you’re already singing.”
“I’m fine! Just a couple drinks in.”
You all make your way to the table you had laid claim to earlier. You survey the table and count at least 6 more glasses, not counting your two. It was hard to see who drank what.
‘Are you okay?’ You sign to your sister, concern etched on your face. They just nod lazily and give a thumbs up with both hands. Levi is regarding you with a look of understanding, and it seems he realized that you had asked him outside.  Music starts playing over the speakers again, and people start making their way to the dance floor. Hange squeals and downs the rest of her drink quickly.
“Erwin let’s go!” She grabs his arm, not waiting for a response. He gives a mock salute to the two of you and follows without question. Levi just clicks his tongue again and heads to the bar to get himself something. So, you plop yourself down on the stool and stare out into the room. Out of nervous habit you start fidgeting with the napkins in front of you. A moment later, Levi’s hobbling over with a tray of drinks.
“I got the idiots some water, they look like they need it.” He places the glasses down with a thud, including one of his own housing some sort of caramel liquid. Then he’s sliding something over to you and you’re about to protest that you don’t drink but you realize it’s not a glass. It’s a notepad and pen.
“If you need something, this might come in handy.” is all he says.
You’re quick to show your appreciation with a bright smile. You also note to yourself that you could have very well have used your phone to communicate but you were not one to disregard someone’s thoughtfulness. It makes something bloom in your chest, warm and comforting.
Your many years of not having a phone of course meant writing – a lot. Your handwriting evolved plenty with time so that meant it was extremely neat. It had to have been so that the reader would be able to read it without an issue.
First you write your name, as you realize no one had really said it out loud while at the teashop. Following that you add ‘I think your shop is wonderful, and I really did enjoy the tea you made.’ You also want to jot down the questions from earlier that were still swimming in your mind, but you hold yourself back. You tell yourself maybe later, granted if there would even be a later.
When angling the paper so he could see it, his eyes flit across the words quickly and you’re given a grunt in acknowledgement. Pulling back the notepad, you bite the inside of your cheek. While it wasn’t awkward being next to him, he sure made it hard to talk to. His cold demeanor gave you the feeling he wasn’t the type to talk about himself, especially with someone he just met. So, asking questions about him or his life was out the window. Likewise, he did not really seem interested in hearing your life story, not like you were planning to spill it anyways for fear of being met with disdain. You had plenty of experiences with that growing up.
Tapping the pen against your chin, your eyes drift around the bar room. There a multitude of people lingering about, shouting over each other to be heard. A couple sits in a corner, whispering who knows what to each other. Both of their cheeks are flushed and eyes heavy with lust. A handful of people are on the dance floor grinding away, your sister and new friend sticking out like a sore thumb as they dance with reckless abandon. All of this gave you an idea, remembering something you’ve read before many moons ago. You start scrawling on the paper again.
‘Are you a gambling man, Levi?’
You shift the pad back over to him and he glances down again after taking another sip of his spirit. He was holding his glass in a way you’d never seen before and honestly it was a little weird.
“Tch, hardly. Why do you ask?” He looks hard at you as you scratch something else down.
‘I propose a game to pass the time. Let’s make some bets about the random people in this room.’
He looks at you incredulously. You stand your ground, not averting your gaze even a little. When you don’t back down, he just scoffs and shakes his head at you.
“I literally could not care less about these people,” he clicks his tongue. “But I suppose there’s not much else to do so I’ll bite.” Knocking back the rest of his drink, he moves around you to lean back against the wall so that he is facing the rest of the crowd. You shift so that you are doing the same. You don’t overlook the proximity to the shorter man, nor the fact that your arms are almost touching. You start to scribble once more.
‘Winner gets to ask the loser one question.’ As his eyes fall on your words, he seems a little taken aback. Levi seems to think for a moment, like he’s weighing his pros and cons.
“One non-personal question.” He amends. You both nod in agreement. So, your eyes travel around the room, looking for your first target. It falls on a group not so far away.
‘I bet that gaggle of young girls over there are here for a bridal party.’
You point in the direction of the said group. Currently they were taking tequila shots, lime and all. All of them sparkled and were dressed up to the nines, save for the silly little hats adorning their heads. And they were having so much fun.
“No way,” Levi scoffs, “That has to be a 21st birthday. They all look like babies.”
Suddenly someone comes through a parting in the crowd with a tray of assorted colorful drinks garnished with cute little accessories. They all yell in excitement at the sight. One of the girls raises her glass and starts shouting.
“To Estelle! May your married life be full of infinite love, happiness, and orgasms!” They all cheer and take big gulps of their drinks, followed by more giggling.
Levi glances art you, his gray eyes dull in the dim bar light. An eyebrow lifts at you as well.
“How did you know?”
You do a sweeping gesture starting from one shoulder down to the opposite hip. He looks back over to the women and conveniently the soon-to-be-bride had faced your direction. She was indeed wearing a white sash sporting the word ‘BRIDE’ in bright pink letters. He huffs as he rolls his eyes, and you smirk at him in return. You press the pad over to him, already equipped with your question.
Levi scoffs at your question. As promised, it wasn’t very personal. You figured ice breaker like questions were a good start. But his pause made you question if this was a good idea, you didn’t want to run him off or make him uncomfortable. Then he clicks his tongue, and his face softens ever so slightly.
“My favorite hobby, huh? It would have to be cleaning.” He simply states.
Cleaning?
‘Like mopping, dusting, all that jazz?’
“Yeah, it brings me peace. I like the control. Plus, I can't stand filthy things, people, or places. It’s repugnant.” He scrunches his nose at the last statement. A laugh bubbles up and you can’t help but let it loose. You’re shot with a glare and a sharp tone.
“Funny?”
You shake your head no and smile lightly while your hands move adeptly on the pad.
‘Not funny, just amusing because it’s not something I would have expected. It’s different. If it makes you happy then it is an admirable hobby.’
Levi’s looking away from you now. If it wasn’t so dim, you would have seen there was a light dusting of pink color his cheeks and ears. He clears his throat and scans the room for his victim. His eyes land on the couple in the back corner whispering to each other. He notices their not-so-subtle hand movements as they felt each other up. Nodding in their direction, he looks back over to you, leaning close so you can hear.
“I bet that couple will get up in the next 3 minutes and excuse themselves to somewhere private.” Your eyes travel in that direction, only to look away hastily at such an intimate scene. You’re not able to think of a counter-bet because honestly, you’re thinking the same thing. Your eyes settle back to his face, but he’s already looking back at the couple. If he noticed you staring, he didn’t say. Suddenly his face is filled with a satisfied look, only to be replaced quickly with a look of horror. You follow his gaze again, afraid of what you might see.
Fortunately, it’s nothing risqué, as you catch the tail end of the couple slipping into one of the public, unmarked restrooms. But the thought of their future actions was enough to gross you out. Looking back at Levi, you scrunch your face up in disgust. He nods in understanding.
“This is why we don’t use public restrooms, especially in a bar.” He pinches the bridge of his nose with his good hand. “When I said somewhere private, I meant like a residence or something. Filthy animals, unbelievable. They better scrub that bathroom down. Maybe I should tell the bartender when they’re done. Maybe I should help clean.”
His retorts crack you up, your shoulders bouncing from silent laughter. He just stares at you impassively as he runs his fingers through his hair to get it out of his face.
“Well, it’s not like we should ruin their fun. Anyways I suppose I won. Let’s see... what’s your favorite color?”
You part your lips, dumbfounded. This was never an easy question, as you found joy in a lot of different colors. You bite your lip and start writing, but after a couple minutes Levi rips the pad from your hands out of impatience.
salmon
turquoise?
canary yellow!
orange
dark forest gre-
He just looks at you in alarm.
“Just pick one.” he scolds.
You snatch the pad back and scribble down, ‘It’s not that simple!’
“It is to me. White, easy.” You just stare right back at him, not believing what you just heard. Out of all the many shades and hues out there, this man decides the color white.
‘Why?’
“It’s clean.” is the only response you get.
It makes sense, you think. But seriously, this man was so weird. But like you said earlier, it was different and that made it refreshing to you. You start searching for your next bet.
As if in a scene from a movie you’ve seen a dozen times came to life, your eyes snap to a lone woman sitting at the bar, nursing a drink and playing on her phone. A couple seats down, you spot a few men chatting. One of the men is staring hard at the very oblivious woman. You nudge Levi with your elbow, not unnoticing the slight flinch from your touch. You point to the scene, and he is quick to understand.
“I bet when he walks over to her, she’ll get up and leave.” He says confidently.
Trusting your instincts, you scrawl back quickly as you notice the man started making his way towards the woman. Sticking your tongue out at him, you angle the pad to him so he could see.
‘Absolutely not. She’ll tell him off right away.’
To both yours and his surprise, not one moment later she throws the rest of her drink contents onto the man’s head. She gathers her belongings, throws a wad of bills on to the bar, then stomps out of the establishment. The rejected man staggers back to his friends, and they applaud him for his supposed gall. This event left you both stunned. There’s a moment of pause where you and Levi just stare at each other before all hell breaks loose as he starts talking and you start scribbling furiously.
“She walked away, I win.”
‘She threw that drink on him, that’s practically telling him off. And that happened before any walking off.’
“That hardly counts, no words were used.” He scoffs and folds his arms across his chest as he stares hard at you. You weren’t sure if the indignation was real or not, but it was evident in his face.
‘Words are not always needed to convey intent.’ You shoot back at him, shifting your weight to tap your foot defiantly. You would know this of course.
This makes Levi pause. He opens his mouth to say something but then Erwin and Hange came crashing into the little bubble you two had made. Suddenly the sounds of clinking glasses and mindless chatter came rushing in and you took a step back.
“Um, I think Hange might have had a little too much tonight.” Erwin says, to which your attention is drawn to a very drunk Hange. They were a blubbering, sobbing mess. Whining about things that ranged from Carly to her work stress and everything in between. Your sister rarely got this drunk, but you imagine the events from earlier might have been her breaking point. This was a sign to get her home.
You hastily round the table to wrap her arm around you and prop her up. Then after whipping a $20 out of your purse and throwing it on the table in front of the boys, you give them a grateful smile and sign to Erwin.
‘Thank you both for tonight. She and I had a lot of fun. But I need to get her home before she gets worse.’ As if on cue, they let out a loud wail and start sobbing into your shoulder. You shift your body to hold them closer so that you don’t drop them. Erwin grabs your $20 and shoves it back in your purse before zipping it up. He had left you no time to protest as he places a large hand on your shoulder and stares intensely at you.
“Please, let me take care of this. Tell them this was an exceptional time. And to please stop by the café again, we owe each a good, sober talk.” His bright blue eyes crinkled in the corners as he smiled at you warmly. “It was a pleasure meeting you too. I hope you join Hange on the café visits as well. I think Levi has warmed up to you just nicely.” He wiggles an eyebrow at his friend. Levi just shoves him back and rolls his eyes.
“Tch, fuck off. She’s alright, I guess.” He’s staring at you now, not as cold as before. “You owe me an answer next time we meet.”
You purse your lips at him and shake your head in disagreement.
‘I totally won that, don’t even think otherwise.’ You jot down lazily on the notepad still on the table. It wasn’t as neat, but you were propping up a whole human, you couldn’t help it.
“Are you sure you’re safe to get home okay? We can he-” You cut Erwin off with a wave of the hand. Their spot of choice was actually very lucky, as you only live a few minutes away. And to be honest, you needed the cold air. So, you sign a quick goodbye to your new friends and make your way out.
Walking down the snowy sidewalk, you pat Hange’s head as she grumbles about random things. She opted to walk herself, but you kept your hand in theirs to lead them in the right direction. She only stumbled a few times but overall, you were able to keep a steady pace. You note that before you left, her glass of water had been untouched, so you make a mental reminder to hydrate her before throwing her in bed.
‘Alcohol was not kind to those in their 30s’ you heard their voice say in the back of your mind.
As your steps left crunching noises in their wake, you peer up at the moon and glittering stars. A certain raven-haired and silver-eyed man etched in your brain. You wonder how soon it will be before seeing him again.
‘Levi’ you sign to yourself with a free hand. A smile cemented to your face the whole way home.

Chapter 11
Charlie made you stay on the property close to the house, if you needed to leave in order to work the orchard or check on the construction on your home, you had to bring him or Tommy along with you. After you told Charlie about the incident, both he and Tommy searched the property for clues, footprints, anything to be able to try and identify who it may have been hiding in the forest that night, but they always came back with nothing. It was as if the shadow person really was just a shadow and nothing more, but you knew what you saw, you saw its form very clearly in the dark of the night.
It had been three days since you told Charlie about it, Luda Mae was on edge worrying about you and your safety. Tommy was also being overly protective of you, he watched you everywhere you went when you were outside, he made you join him in the barn to have you near him while he tended to the animals, you didn’t mind spending the extra time near him.
Today was no different from the rest, the sun was bright in the sky with a cloudless expanse of blue surrounding it. You spent a lot of the morning doing laundry, as you finished hanging up the last of the garments on the outside hang line, you heard a call from Luda Mae,
“Hun, can you come in here when your good and done that laundry?”
You respond in agreement, the final clothespin now tightly pinching one of Tommy’s massive white shirts. You step down from the stool and admire the clothes swaying in the gentle breeze, you felt a certain nostalgia for hanging clothes, your grandmother used to have you help her hang the laundry on the line when you were small, and you never forgot the fresh smell of the outside air on the clothes when you took them down for folding.
You walked into the kitchen from the backdoor with the empty laundry basket in hand, Luda Mae was dressed to leave the house, she grabbed her purse and turned to look for you,
“Oh, there you are. I need to go to the gas station today. Charlie’s gon’ drop me off, then he has to go to town and get some things.” She walks over to grab her sun hat which hung on the wall, and continued,
“Thomas’ gonna be out in the barn with them cows while we’re away, one of ‘em needs a hoof trim so he’s gon’ be a while. Can you stay inside ‘til we’re back? I don’t want to risk you gettin’ hurt by some weirdo or nothin’”
You follow her to the main entrance, you felt compelled to ask,
“Shouldn’t I just stay outside with Tommy?”
Luda Mae is now already opening the door, Charlie is honking the horn in the distance to push her along,
“I just wanna be sure you’re safe hun, it’s mighty boring watchin’ a man shave a hoof down, n’ it takes forever to do.” She opens the door to leave but turns and says some final words,
“Every door in this house is locked, as soon as I close this one make sure to lock it and check the door you came in as well. If you’re in the house at least I know you won’t be messed with. I’ll be back in a few hours hun.”
She shut the door and ran to the idling truck while Charlie reamed her out for taking so long. You lock the door as she asked, and head to the kitchen to lock the back door as instructed. You sigh and look out the window at Tommy who was pushing one of the cows’ legs into the holster to prop it up for the trim -I guess I can go to my room and read for a bit-. When you entered your room, you noticed a bit of dust floating in the air, you decide to open the window to let fresh air inside. You went over to one of the bookshelves in the room and picked out a book you never got to finish from high school titled ‘Island of the Blue Dolphins’.
You lay down on your bed to start the book from the first chapter, each sentence reminded you of the past. The book took you out of your head and into someone else’s world, a story from history retold. As you continued to read you grew tired, your eyelids became heavy and before you could put the book down, you were out like a light.
Tommy was still working on the cow, he was gentle and sliced thin sheets off the keratinous layer keeping in mind the comfort level of the cow. He was at it for over an hour, he decided the cow had enough and deserved to take a break. He unhooked the leg and brought the cow out to the pasture with the others, he watched as it happily bounced away to go find a moist patch of grass to munch on. He missed you, and wanted to check in to see what you were up to and get a glass of water while he was inside.
Tumblr media
Tommy unlocked the door to the kitchen and poured himself some water which he guzzled down in an instant, as he filled the cup again, he called out to you but there was no answer; Finishing the next glass of water, Tommy went to look for you, calling your name as he moved through each room, but there was never an answer. He felt a chill go up his spine and began searching more frantically, loudly yelling out to you in hopes you were on another floor. He went to your room and knocked on the door, no answer.
Tommy opened the door and looked around the room, he saw your bed was messed up and the window was wide open. You were gone. He screamed for you, running all over the house in case he was wrong about his assumptions but each room he checked was met with dead silence and no one to see. He ran outside, the barn was the first place to look, nothing. He ran to the wheat field, searched around each corner including inside the silo, nothing. He looked in the car graveyard, opening the doors and trunks, searching under the cars, nothing. The final place was the pond, he ran as quick as possible, he looked through the trees and all around the surrounding forest, he searched the dock and the water, nothing again.
Tommy felt like his world was collapsing in on him, he couldn’t find you anywhere, you were taken from him and he wasn’t there to stop it, he was brimming with rage at his failure to protect you.  Now that you were missing, Tommy was hell bent on finding you, he would search to the ends of the earth if he had to, he won’t stop until you are in his arms again.
-
You woke up in a dark room, it was lit dimly with old string lights. The ceiling and walls of the room were made of dirt, like they had been dug into by a shovel, the walls were reinforced by wood beams that the string of the lights would loop around. You felt exhausted, you could barely keep your eyes open and your vision was going in and out of blurriness. You felt like you were laying down on a hard surface, it was cold in this place, -am, I dreaming? Where am I?- You were too exhausted to panic, when you tried to lift your arm to rub your eyes, you realize you couldn’t, you were unable to move your whole body, the best you could manage was just curling your toes or twitching your fingers.
You groan to see if you could speak, you were able to squeak out a noise thankfully. You hear footsteps coming towards where you lay, a smell follows when the footsteps drew close, body odor, really bad body odor. You push out some words,
“Hhhwho, whos…there?” it was weak but audible.
You hear the footsteps come close to you, a chuckle rattles into your ears, someone walks up to your side and looks down at you, their face is too blurry to make out, they speak,
“Nice o’ you t’wake up.”
The voice was familiar, but you struggled to think of the person it reminded you of, you squeeze out another question,
“Hhhh…hhhwho?”
The person kneels down and gets really close to your face, its Dover. You grumble and try to move to get away but he laughs as you struggle.
“Recognize me now dontcha bitch?” his words were pointed, he continues to speak,
“Finally caught ya when those freaks went away. They fucked up muh dang fire and now yer still alive. I intend t’change that.”
You squirm, tears start to roll from your eyes, -why can’t I move? Please let this just be a bad dream- you blink frantically, feeling like if you could just push yourself then somehow you could get out of there. Dover goes over to a shelf area and grabs some ropes, he comes back to you and starts tying your arms and legs down,
“I drugged ya while y’slept in yer nice cushy bed at the Hewitt house.” He ties your hands together and attached the rope to a pole that was behind you,
“Im gon’ wait ‘till it wears off so y’can get the full effect of what I’m gonna put ya through. Payback fer Tilly just up and givin’ everythin’ away t’some whore from Canada.” He ties your feet together and lifts you so you sit upright against the dirt wall next to were you lay.
He walked away and disappeared around the corner, all you could do was cry, as time passed you started to gain your movement back and were finally able to speak. You didn’t remember anything other than falling asleep in your bed with the book, you felt like you were in a waking nightmare. You tried to scream out for help, calling each of the Hewitt’s names in case either of them could hear you, tears streaming down your face as you yelled.
Dover returned, he mocked your screaming and crying and laughed when you stopped, he looked worse than usual, his beard had grown in and was yellowing already, he smelled like he hadn’t bathed in forever. You try to free yourself from your bonds but they were so tight it just cut into your skin the more you struggled, you look up at him as he stood over you, smirking, you ask,
“Why are you doing this?!”
He tilts his head back to chuckle to himself, then says,
“I deserve some fun b’fore I take up the deed to Tilly’s property, I earned it.”
You respond,
“Where did you go after the fire? And where the fuck am I?”
He kneels down to you, his rank smell overwhelming your senses,
“When I saw the fuckin’ Hewitts drivin’ up I had t’run, so I made my way out to an abandoned lot n’ dug this hole so’s I be able t’kill ya without no one knowin’ where I was.” He looked around and continued,
“Seems it worked. Oh, y’can scream all ya want here, no one’s gon’ hear ya.” He cackled and walked over to the table where he got the ropes from,
“Y’see, Im gon’ take pleasure in fuckin’ ya up. Maybe after I kill ya, I’ll give yer body t’the Hewitts, so they can eat it.”
You hang your head down, the tears dripping onto your legs,
“What the hell are you talking about? Just let me go! If you let me go, I won’t say anything to anyone, please!” you had to choke past your tears to speak, you were so scared of what was coming next, you continue to plead,
“Please let me go, please, I don’t want to die.”
Dover just laughs at you, he turns away from the table and is holding a knife, he inspects the edge of it with his thumb as he walks over to you,
“Y’think I’m stupid? I know If I let y’go, those cannibals’ll be after me.” He kneels down and starts to cut away your shirt exposing your bra,
Tumblr media
“Y’gon be mighty uncomfortable in the cold down here. Ain’t no comfort comin’ t’ya. While yer awake and alive, you might as well know the truth ‘bout the freaks you lived with.”
You cut in, “What?”
He smirks and continues to tear away the rest of your shirt,
“Those Hewitts, used t’eat people back b’fore the orchard grew. The economy was down, real bad, everyone left town fer greener pastures. Not them though, those dumb fucks wouldn’t leave their big fancy house. Once the food went out n’ deliveries stopped, the animals starved n’ stopped producin’, they ate what animals were left ‘til there was none.” He looked up past his brows at you,
“That’s when they started eatin’ people. Travellin’ folks would be picked off when they came in town fer gas, killed ‘em all n’ cooked ‘em up fer dinner. That big retard one did most of the killin’, he’d slaughter ‘em all then butcher the bodies fer the meat. He’s evil with how many he killed.”
You just sat still, eyes wide,
“How do you know all this? Why didn’t they kill you?”
He ran the knife up your arm, tracing the tip over your skin, he said,
“I used t’be the one deliverin’ gas to the station, only reason they had a fuckin’ store t’begin with. Then when Tilly came round, she hired me on t’start up the orchard. She paid me t’keep quiet. None of it matters now anyway, I’m gon’ report them to the sherriff, and blame them fer ya dyin’”
You yell at him, “What makes you think they won’t hunt you down after I’m dead?”
He laughs,
“They ain’t gon’ get the chance, the sherriff’ll be called b’fore I leave this hole after I’m done with ya”
You start screaming again, as loud as you could just in case any of the Hewitts were nearby. Dover slaps you across the face,
“Save yer screams fer when the fun starts.”
The sting from his slap was panful, you already felt dizzy from the drugs he injected into you wearing off, the slap just made it all worse. You try to struggle again, hoping to possibly get loose form the rope, Dover was now cutting away at your shorts laughing at your efforts to escape,
“Struggle all ya want whore, yer never getting’ out of those knots.”
You curse at him,
“You fucking evil pig, what are you planning?”
He tears away the cloth from your shorts, now exposing your underwear, the chill of the room now giving your skin goosebumps, you feel so cold you shiver. He says,
“I’m gonna take y’apart, piece by piece.” He laughs to himself as he gets up to grab something off the table again.
You wriggle your hands back and forth; you start to feel the rope loosen so you continue steadily wriggling to help loosen it more. You watch Dover to make sure he still has his back turned, you were able to get your hands free, you start to untie your feet while watching Dover. You were able to loosen the rope on your feet and quickly placed your hands back to where they were, holding the rope with them so he didn’t know they were untied, he turned around and had a larger knife with him now.
He came and squatted down to look over your body, he touched your leg and ran his calloused hand up your thigh,
“Don’t know where t’start.” He said as he looked over your legs.
He placed the knifes edge on your collarbone, he pressed in and you winced in pain, he started laughing maniacally, his eyes closed tightly as he threw his head back with glee. Just as he exposed his neck, you punched him right in the Adams apple and he fell backward choking. He dropped the knife to his side as he held his throat, you picked it up and plunged it into his calf, it penetrated and sliced through his muscle and poked through the other side, he clenched his calf with his hands as he choked, trying to catch his breath.
You removed the rope fully from your feet and ran out of the area, you turned the corner and found a doorway made of scrap metal, you fling the door open and start running, barely able to see in front of you. The pathway was at an incline upwards, it led you to a dead end, you looked around for a door and spotted a ladder, you looked up and saw a wooden latch door. You frantically climbed the ladder and pushed up on the door, it opened up to a field with extremely tall grass, you were almost fully out of the hole when you felt a tug at your foot, Dover was behind you pulling you down, it made you fall to the ground above the latch door and he began to drag you into the hole, you screamed as loud as you could.
You were almost pulled in again but you landed a swift kick to Dover’s face with your free foot, he grunted in pain and fell backward into the hole, letting go of your foot. You closed the latch door and ran as fast as you could through the grass, you didn’t know where you were but you knew you needed to put distance between you and him. The sky was dark, it was already nightfall, you were grateful for the heat, it was warming your cold, exposed body. You snuck your way through the grass, being careful to not leave an obvious trail for Dover to find you. You hear his laugh,
“Im gon’ find you bitch! You can’t hide from me!” His words resonated loudly, he was nearby.
You crouch down low and quiet your movements to try and hide in the grass as best you could. You hear him shuffling haphazardly as he floundered around the brush. He was getting closer; you quietly move yourself to a denser area of the field and kneel down as low as possible. You listened for him, his footsteps were inching closer to you, you could hear his heavy breathing and sat as still and quiet as possible when you saw his legs through the strands of vegetation surrounding you,
“Come out lil’ piggy, I’m gonna getcha” he called out for you in a sing-song way, sounding even more unhinged than before.
Tumblr media
He was now right next to where you were, you hitched your breath and lowered yourself further into the grass hoping for the best. After a few seconds of just hearing his heavy breathing, he moved on. You waited for a good minute and then when you couldn’t hear his movements again, you quietly snuck away. You continued moving in the same direction, hoping it was going to at least get you to a road, you raised your head above the grass slightly to see where you should go, a forest could be seen in the distance so you made your way towards that, now running as fast as you could.
Just when you reached the edge of the forest you felt your hair pulled back roughly, it made you fall backward and you yelped in pain.
“Gotcha!” he shouted with glee.
Dover dragged you closer to him by your hair, you scratched and clawed at his hand to release your hair. You were at his feet now, he let go of your hair and stood over top of you, he placed his foot on your stomach and stood onto you, you yelled out for help with your last inhalation. He kept applying pressure, now making it hard for you to breathe in, you punched his leg as hard as you could but this just made him laugh loudly. He dropped himself on top of your body, he placed his legs on your arms to prevent you from moving, you gasp for air and let out another scream.
Dover punches your face, you yell in pain and feel dizzy again, his hands are now around your neck squeezing your throat. In this moment, you feel helpless, you can’t squirm enough to get him off of you and now the blood is unable to get to your brain causing you to slowly slip into darkness. As the world around you begins to fade, you hear a low rumbling, like the growl of a wolf. The pressure from your neck is gone and there’s no one on your body, as the blood starts rushing back into your brain you gasp for air, coughing and sputtering as you roll over onto your front.
The sound you heard was no wolf, it was the revving of an engine, a small engine, a chainsaw.

Read more under the cut for another sneak preview of Chapter 1!
"How was the rush?" he asks Robin absentmindedly as he goes about cleaning the machines and the counter. There's a dreamy smile on his face, the image of a man playing his guitar and humming softly to himself in his mind's eye.
"Eh, not bad, but - why are you smiling?" Robin immediately catches it, and Steve tries to wipe it off his face for plausible deniability.
"I'm not smiling."
"I have eyes, Dingus. What's up? Did Lisa call you?" Steve looks at Robin, at a loss, before the proverbial light bulb turns on and he just stops himself from snapping his fingers. Right, Lisa.
"Nah, I texted her, but she didn't text me back," he says with a shrug, not really caring. She was boring and self-absorbed anyway, there was no chemistry between them. Not like he thought he had with —
Robin's eyebrows shoot up in surprise at his obvious disinterest, and he knows there's no point in playing dumb. He's been dying to tell Robin all weekend, and here's the perfect opportunity. "I just met someone. Sort of."
This isn't really anything new, Steve meets someone almost every week, but Robin still makes a gimme gimme gesture at him. "Details, please. Drown out the tragedy that is my love life."
Steve snorts. "It's not that big of a deal. He was playing guitar on the corner near my bus stop, and I just... met him." Saying it like that makes it seem so insignificant when it felt anything but.
"What's his name?"
"I don't know."
"So you didn't actually meet him."
"Technically. But it was weird, Robin, he seemed so familiar. Like I've met him before. I even asked him about it, but he said no. Just gave me a line, like I'd be hard to forget."
"It wasn't a line," comes a voice from the customer's side of the table. Steve whips his head around to find his mystery man standing there with a grin on his handsome face. Steve gawks at him and the man adds, "Okay, maybe it was a line."
"Oh, fuck - I mean, shit - hi." He wants to punch himself, hard. Smooth. So fucking smooth. The floor never opens and swallows you when you need it most.
The man cackles with glee and Steve turns even redder, quickly approaching scarlet.
"What can we get you?" Robin the Saint cuts in before he can put his foot in his mouth any more than he already did, nudging Steve in the side to put on his best customer service smile.
"Uh," Cute Guitar Guy begins, his eyes darting up to the menu and scanning it quickly. "Whatever's sweet enough to cause instant cavities."
"You're not on the menu, Stevie," Robin whispers in Steve's ear, laughter obvious in her tone, and Steve elbows her gently. He wouldn't mind being on the menu for this particular customer.
"A mocha with an extra pump sound good?" Robin asks, already grabbing a cup, marker in hand.
"Yeah, that sounds good," the guy replies absentmindedly, his eyes never leaving Steve's. As their gazes lock, Steve has to suppress the shiver that wants to run through his body as the current of electricity hits him again. He can feel it crackling under his skin and wonders if the man in front of him can feel it too.
He hopes he can.
Undeterred by both of their obvious distraction, Robin continues with her customer scheme. "Name?"
Cute Guitar Guy’s eyes stay on Steve as he replies with a sudden weight in his voice, "Eddie," before remembering his manners and giving Robin a kind, sincere smile.
Robin moves away from the counter to start working on the drink, sending a sly smile in Steve's direction as he continues to just stand there looking at Eddie. He's sure she's going to make fun of him later.
"I'm Steve," he tells the guy, desperate to say something, anything.
"I see," Eddie says, pointing to Steve's nametag, and Steve feels like smacking himself again. Fortunately, Eddie seems more charmed than appalled by his inability to carry on a conversation like a normal human being. "I suppose it would be stupid to use another line like 'You come here often?'" Eddie asks, smiling widely at him, and Steve's knees weaken at the sight, wanting to trace that smile with his tongue, especially the newly formed dimples.
Steve huffs a laugh. "You still could. Maybe it’d make you stop by more often if I told you I do?”
“Oh, you can count on that, Steve.”
They grin at each other and Steve thinks that he would take a hundred more fucked up days like Friday if they led to something like this. The thought reminds him to ask, "Is that your regular spot? Playing at the corner?"
Leaning closer to Steve, Eddie rests both elbows on the counter. "What if it is?"
"Then I might have to skip the bus more often," Steve says, mimicking his stance.
He hears Robin snort behind him, but chooses to ignore her in favor of looking at Eddie, who has just pulled out his wallet to pay for the drink. Steve puts his hand on the one holding the wallet and feels another crackle under his skin. "On the house."
Eddie raises an eyebrow at him, but his eyes dance with mischievous delight. "And do all of your first time customers get this kind of special treatment from you?"
Go big or go home, Steve thinks as he leans even closer to Eddie. "Nah," he says looking up at him from under his lashes, "Only the really cute ones."
The smile on Eddie's face softens, the mischief replaced by something more genuine, more real. He pulls a strand of his hair over his mouth to hide it, but it's too late, because Steve knows he's going to fall asleep tonight with that smile on his mind.
Eddie opens his wallet, pulls out a $5 bill and puts it in the tip jar. Steve wonders if it's the same one he put in Eddie's guitar case the other night. "Thanks, Stevie."
The nickname makes Steve smile, liking the easy way Eddie creates a feeling of familiarity between them. He's not sure if Eddie is thanking him for the free coffee or the compliment, but either way his answer would be the same. "Anytime."
They continue to lean on the counter, staring at each other as if the rest of the world has ceased to exist, before a customer behind Eddie clears his throat loudly, startling them both. "Are you two done? I'd like my coffee today, please."
Rolling his eyes, Eddie steps aside and waves his arm in a sweeping gesture at the disgruntled customer.
"After you," he says in an exaggerated voice and gives Steve a wink before walking over to the pickup counter to wait for his drink. Just then, more and more customers begin to pour in, the lunch rush in full swing, and Steve moves to take their orders, help Robin prepare drinks, and hand out snacks and baked goods. He tries to keep an eye on Eddie to see if he's still there, but after a particularly large order from a group, Steve is distracted long enough that when he looks back, Eddie is gone.
His face must show his disappointment because Robin puts a gentle hand on Steve's back and says, "Eddie asked me to tell you goodbye. He really had to go, but he looked just as bummed out about it as you do.”
That's at least something, but Steve still feels deflated. He didn't even get his number.

“2ha moments that tainted my mind like how the Flower of Everlasting Hatred tainted his heart”
Part One because there is NO WAY that I will not have any more thoughts after re-reading and reading volume 5 like what the fuck, what the actual fuck.
Tumblr media
“Chu Wanning, watch me fuck you to death”
Butterfly Town corpse procession where they both switched places and STILL ended up getting paired up and “married off” together, like just fucking kiss already LAWD.
The way Chu Wanning LITERALLY HAS THEM IN HIS ARMS???? WITH TIANWEN IN HIS OTHER HAND??? BECAUSE HE LITERALLY LOOKS OUT FOR THEM????? AND PROTECTS THEM???????? anyways, I love Chu Wanning. Chu Wanning my beloved. He is literally so gorgeous and I don’t care what everyone says in that universe about him because like if I saw him, I would literally also pull off a Mo Ran and beg for him to be my shizun.
Tumblr media
The Xia Sini arc. That’s it. Literally my favorite arc, I WILL NOT fucking shut up about it. That arc healed something in me if you exclude the murder mysteries slasher movie elements to it. Ask me about it and I will answer every single one of your questions including the meaning of life.
MengMeng. Just… MengMeng because he occupies 28% of my thoughts following closely to Jiang Cheng who occupies 37%.
Tumblr media
“Ah, JIANGUI!!” and then everyone clapped.
The Lake Jincheng moment when they get drugged and put to sleep and Mo Ran having that incredibly vivid dream about Chu Wanning getting violated by someone else and so he’s enraged and is like “I’M THE ONLY ONE WHO GETS TO VIOLATE CHU WANNING”??? Like, what the hell was that?? Actually, what the hell was that whole Lake Jincheng arc????
On the topic of the Lake Jincheng arc, that whole bit with Xue Meng and him getting crushed over the fact that not only does he NOT get a holy weapon because everything was a lie, but also the fact that his previously orphaned nephew who came from such… horrible background got the only remaining true holy weapon?? I felt his pain so hard, dude. Like, Xue Meng, I feel you. I understand your pain.
This:
Tumblr media
Shi Mei feeling up Mo Ran because he wasn’t paying attention to him and was being extra nice to Chu Wanning instead???? Like… what??? Can’t you be normal please???? I’m so sorry, I genuinely dislike the “sweet like honey” type characters because they always turn out to be assholes and I just can’t trust them maybe it’s also trauma and my trust issues but like goddamn Mo Ran literally have bad tastes if he liked Shi Mei I’m so sorry for saying this
Mo Ran having SUCH anxiety with his food to the point that he would literally WOLF IT DOWN in less than a day, and anything else, he hides because he’s so used to having his things taken away from him, and the relief he felt when Chu Wanning told him that there’s no need to rush because there’s always more for him when they’re eating together and just… brb I am genuinely going to cry.
The chapter title change from “This Venerable One…” to “Shizun, Won’t You Pay Attention To Me, Please Pay Attention To Me.”
Chu Wanning not knowing how to react to Mo Ran (seemingly) suddenly manifesting in front of him: “who the fuck is this child and where did he come from” ←this is totally a canon quote
“…he came with a low guttural roar.”
Mo Ran’s pronunciation guide
Tumblr media
Anything beyond this point is Volumes 3/4 Spoilers so…
You’ve been warned (lol)
I am never getting over looking up Yuwu and 2ha connections, ONLY TO COME BACK FROM GETTING SPOILED THAT CHU WANNING IS MADE FROM WOOD?????
On a similar note, I was looking up Nangong Si because I wanted to see official art of him and found out that not only A) does he die (I actually went through a whole bit of copium this morning in the shower ober this because I randomly remembered it and was like “no he doesn’t… wait… does he… noo.. no… nooo…) but also B) Ye Wangxi is a female????
Tumblr media
Now that I know about Chu Wanning literally being carved from wood, I can’t stop agonizing over Chu Wanning’s thoughts where he would compare his features to someone like… say, Shi Mei. How pained must it feel for him to have these thoughts knowing that he was MADE BY HAND. The facial features on him such as nose, jawline, chin… EVERYTHING was deliberately carved to look that way. That would honestly fuck me up so badly, especially since I also have my grievances about my appearance.
Although,,, to be honest, I actually don’t know if Chu Wanning is even aware of his own origins but IF HE DID, it probably fucks him up a ton. And I agonize over this every. single. day. Oh god, I just also remembered the part where Mo Ran specifically says to him: “Chu Wanning, are you made of wood?” Ohhh OHHHH OUCHIEEEE. VERY. OUCHIEEE.
Another thing that drove me insane is the scene in volume 3 (I’m pretty sure?) with the wontons where Mo Ran is narrating and lamenting over how he couldn’t remember what his shizun’s expression looked like when he shoved off the wontons Chu Wanning made… because he just…. couldn’t care less….. and just…. Knowing that Chu Wanning was the one who has been making Mo Ran’s wontons this entire time knowing that he would like them?? I literally CANNOT even begin to imagine the types of expressions that he could have possibly been making.
Just… like… Imagine being Chu Wanning, and you care SO MUCH about Mo Ran to the point that you are willing to sacrifice your own feelings for the sake of his happiness knowing that he likes your other disciple that is “much better looking”, and despite that, go out of your way to make him spicy wontons, even though you are not that good at making food AND dislike spicy foods. And then you make his favorite food to try to get him to cheer up even a little bit when one of your disciples (and your crush’s crush) dies and you proooobably blame yourself for it and not only does he essentially say “fuck you and your food” but he blames you and basically tells you that you’re a horrible person (which you most likely already blame yourself for and agonize over so now it also feels like someone else is confirming your sense of guilt) . Like, I would NOT be okay after that. I’m usually good at not showing my feelings but this would truly devastate me and fuck me up a lot to the point that I wouldn’t even know what to do.

 ─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
Present Day
Levi stood blank faced as he meticulously cleaned the blender station for what felt like the 100th time today.

Chapter 3 of EI for @pokkeshii and beta'd by @pricklenettle. No art for this chapter, but the next one...
Chapter 1 Chapter 2
Trigger warnings for this chapter: Loss of control, implied/suspected drug use
Danny wasn't at school for the next three days.
Not that Dash paid any real attention to the comings and goings of that dweeb. The only reason he noticed was because he'd bombed a particularly important math test, and his resident stress reliever wasn't anywhere to be seen. Danny may have gotten better at flying under the radar since freshman year, but he wasn't that good. Dash had to make do with beating up some sophomore nerd he didn't even know the name of instead.
When Danny did finally show his face again, Dash nearly started laughing then and there. The boy looked rough. He'd never looked good, of course, but he looked especially bad now, even worse than he had before, which was bad. His hair was soaked with sweat, he kept his eyes firmly on the ground, and worst of all, he was shaking like a leaf.
Dash elbowed Kwan, who was busy chatting up some girl Dash didn't recognize. He looked over at where Dash gestured, before rolling his eyes. "You have fun with that, dude. I think I'm gonna keep enjoying myself over here."
The girl giggled.
Dash left Kwan to it, pushing his way through the crowd towards where Danny stood, hunched up against the lockers.
"Ah, did the last ghost fight scare you that much?"
Danny didn't reply.
"What, you had to go run and hide from the big scary ghosts? And you still come back looking like you’re about to piss yourself!"
Still no reply.
"Look at me when I'm talking to you, Fenturd," Dash said, grabbing Danny by the shoulder. He intended to turn Danny's face towards him, maybe get a good look at his sniveling face while he cried for some extra material. It shouldn't have been hard; Fenton had always been a pushover, at least physically. Dash had roughed Danny up plenty of times before.
Instead of being met with Danny's face, Dash was looking directly at the floor and his arm was screaming in pain. He couldn't see Fenton at all, but he could feel one cold hand on his head, forcing him down, and the other twisting his arm behind his back. It was more than just the pain; wherever Fenton touched Dash, his skin crawled in an assimilation of pins and needles.
"Do you want to say that again, Dash?" Danny said. His voice was off somehow. He didn't sound different, but Dash knew there was something wrong. He could feel it in the way his heart started to pound in his chest and the blood rushed in his ears, how his thoughts seemed to scatter in a silent mantra of run run run run run run- "I said," Danny twisted his arm further, forcing Dash lower to the ground. "Do you want to say that again?"
"What the fuck, dude?" Dash hissed between gritted teeth. "I was just playing around!"
Danny twisted his arm further, and Dash did not start tearing up. He didn't. "Then it's only fair that I play back, right?"
Dash knew what breaking a bone felt like. He'd broken several over his quarterback career. He wouldn't go so far as to say he was used to it, but he was familiar with it. This wasn't a broken bone. There was a popping sound, and then pain exploded down his arm, so much sharper than it had been only moments ago. Dash couldn't suppress the cry of pain as he tried to wrench himself free to no avail. Fenton's grip was cold and strong, holding him tight like a vice. Even as Dash's arm went limp, Fenton just pushed harder.
He didn't know how long Fenton held him there for. Long enough that he’d given up on convincing himself that he wasn’t crying. Fenton might’ve decided to keep Dash there forever, if Mr. Lancer hadn't stepped in, wrenching the two of them apart. Dash fell to the floor, trying to clutch his injured arm to his chest. It wouldn't cooperate. He couldn't move it, couldn't feel it outside of the electric pain shooting out from his shoulder.
Sure, maybe Dash did cry. He could admit it to himself, if not to anyone else. It wasn't his fault though. Fenton was a thousand times more freaky than he'd ever imagined, even freakier than the ghosts. He couldn't blame himself for breaking down when getting so close to someone- no, some thing as unnatural as that.
---
Maddie tried to make a habit of not setting expectations for the day. She made plans and goals, of course, but she never set out with an expectation. It was a recipe for a bad day, in her opinion, and she tried to avoid those. Which is why saying she did not expect a call from the school did not come lightly.
She knew that Danny wasn't a good student. It would've been impossible for her to miss his less than stellar grades and positively horrendous attendance record. Jack and her had spent all of his freshman year and most of his sophomore trying to encourage him to try harder, but when it didn't work, they accepted it. He just wasn't as academically inclined as the rest of his family was, and there was nothing wrong with that. Or maybe it was just high school; Jack had been held back because he couldn't pay attention, so it wasn't out of the question.
The school had come to the same results for all the wrong reasons. Maddie knew they'd given up on Danny and were just funneling him through the system, and while she was incredibly disappointed, she did understand. Danny simply wasn't motivated, and there wasn't anything they could do to change that.
With all of that said, Danny had never been a bad kid. Even when he was little, he'd always been such a sweet child, always following her around in the lab to try and help, or carrying down plates of food bigger than he was whenever Maddie or Jack forgot to eat. He'd always been kind and caring and sweet and gentle.
And yes, he'd been different lately, even more so than normal. He refused to talk about what had him so jumpy, but Jazz had told her that he'd gotten into a fight with his friends. It was unfortunate, and surprising. The three of them had been nearly inseparable since freshman year, maybe even before that. But he wasn't aggressive or lashing out, just quiet and drawn back. The past few days had been even worse, with him refusing to come out of his room at all.
He'd said he was sick, with a messy note passed under the door. Maddie didn't quite believe him, but he was clearly not feeling well, so she left trays of food outside the door for him and let him rest. She believed him a lot more when he'd finally emerged that morning, looking like he hadn't slept at all in his self inflicted quarantine, sweaty and shaking. She'd tried to convince him to stay home and keep resting, but he'd insisted that he needed to go to school.
All of that was why the call from the school, that he had not only gotten into but had started a fight? To say that it was a shock was to put it lightly.
Maddie expected for him to be even worse looking than he had been. Danny knew how to fight, or at least did when he was younger. She'd spent most of his elementary school years teaching him and Jazz what she knew. If he had been in good health, then she'd have more faith in him, but when he'd left the house this morning he'd nearly been blown over by the wind. Maddie doubted he'd be able to win a fight against a paperclip, let alone a football player.
Instead, when she ran into the school office she found him sitting in one of the uncomfortable chairs, staring at the wall, sitting perfectly still. He didn't have any bruises on his face or skin that she could see, no blood or scratches or anything that indicated that he was any worse for wear. If anything, Danny looked better than he had this morning.
His teacher, Mr. Lancer, stood next to him, his arms crossed and eyebrows furrowed. Maddie approached, but he didn't seem to notice her. He was standing next to Danny, tapping his foot on the ground rapidly.
"Good afternoon, Mr. Lancer," she said with a practiced smile on her face.
He visibly startled before clearing his throat and fixing his posture. "Oh, you're here," he said, wearing his own, clearly forced smile.
"I am," she said. She turned to face Danny. "Are you hurt?" Maddie asked softly. If what she had been told was true, she would lecture him later. It was more important to make sure he was okay. She continued when she didn't get a reply. "Mr. Lancer called and said you got into a fight...?"
Danny still didn't answer. He didn't so much as blink or turn his eyes to look at her. If Maddie didn't know any better, she'd say he wasn't breathing.
Mr. Lancer cleared his throat, and she looked up at him. "He isn't physically injured, as far as we could tell. Despite this, he hasn't been responding."
"And you took that to mean that he wasn't injured?" she asked, trying very hard to keep the anger out of her voice. "What if he'd been hit on the head? He should be in the hospital!"
"We did," Mr. Lancer replied drily. "It would've been nearly impossible for him to have been hit like that. There were a number of student witnesses, and Dash Baxter, the boy Danny instigated the fight with, was hardly given the chance to lift a finger. In contrast, Dash is currently in the hospital with a dislocated shoulder and a pinched nerve. I wonder where he learned to react in such a way." The last sentence was whispered, clearly intended to be for Mr. Lancer only.
Maddie pretended she didn't hear him. "Eye witness reports are all well and good, but did you at least have the school nurse look him over?"
"As much as we could," Mr. Lancer replied slowly.
"And what does that mean?" Maddie asked.
Mr. Lancer cleared his throat. "The nurse had some trouble getting close.”
"I'm sorry, I thought you said he wasn't responsive?" she asked incredulously.
"He isn’t," Mr. Lancer said. " Mostly. He didn’t react well when she tried to touch him. If you'd like to try and see for yourself, you're more than welcome to, but if I might be frank, I am up to here with your families escapades today. Daniel is going to be suspended for a week, and the Baxter's have decided to not press charges. Something that you should be very grateful for. Now, if you'll excuse me." Mr. Lancer walked briskly from the room, leaving Maddie and Danny more or less alone.
She turned back to him. He still sat just as he had before, as if he was part of the room's decoration. "I want you to know that you are in trouble," Maddie started. "But I want to make sure you're safe first, and then we can talk about punishment. Do you understand?"
She still got no response.
"Danny, I need you to talk to me. Or at least give me some kind of sign, it doesn't have to be words," she continued. "A head nod. Two blinks. A loud exhale."
Maddie got none of that. She sighed, and straightened. "Okay. I don't know what is wrong right now, but we're going to get you home, and then we are talking about this. Come on." She let her hand fall on his shoulder, intending to guide him out  the door to the car. She didn't have the GAV today; Jack was buys with some kind of ghost snakes report across town.
Half of her expected to get some reaction when she touched his shoulder. Mr. Lancer had certainly made it seem like she should, but the only thing that happened was Danny standing up,  and following her out to the car. He walked as if on autopilot, stumbling over the slight step down to the sidewalk below. If Maddie hadn't been there to catch him, it looked like he would have just face planted.
She pursed her lips. She didn't care what the teachers or nurses might say, something was wrong with her baby. That was clear as day. It was just going to have to fall to her to figure out what.
Maddie had to guide Danny into the backseat, had to buckle him in like she hadn't done since he was five. Her concern only grew as she went through the motions, having to raise his limp arm to get the seat belt under it. It took longer than she'd care to admit, and it wasn't for another good few minutes before she was climbing behind the driver's wheel. She let her eyes wander to Danny again in the rear view mirror before she started driving.
He was staring directly down at his lap, where his hands lay. She noticed then that they were clenched, the only part of his body that wasn't limp, gripped into fists so tight that she could see how his knuckles paled from the tension.
Maddie put the car in drive and tore her eyes away. She needed to get home, and she needed to think. She needed to figure out what was wrong.
Her first instinct was, unsurprisingly, overshadowing. Or maybe some other kind of possession. It would've explained the sudden difference in attitude recently. If Danny was trying to fight against it, it may also explain his not quite catatonic state, focusing all his energy inward to try and kick the ghost out. It would explain a lot, and it would be an easy enough fix. Maddie hoped it was just that.
She forced herself to think of other possibilities too. While possession would've been nice, she also knew that it was wishful thinking. Possession would mean her baby boy was just as sweet and kind and unbothered as ever, and that he was nothing more than a victim. It would've been terrible, that she couldn't keep him safe, but it would've been an easy fix. Maddie couldn't let her wishful thinking get in the way if it ended up being something else.
He could be sick, like he said, but that wouldn't explain why he was better now. He could have just been acting out, as the school seemed to think he was, but that wouldn't explain the sickness. Unless...
Amity Park didn't have the most alive drug culture. Maddie knew more about that than she'd care to admit. It wasn’t unusual for either her or Jack to be called to plenty of peoples bad trips for false ghost reports before they opened the portal, and it was always to the same couple places. It had been annoying of course, but educational. After the portal had opened, the false reports dropped substantially. Maddie didn't know if it was because the people stopped using when the real world was crazier than any drug trip they might have, or because now they could differentiate between the ghosts they saw and the real ghosts.
Either way, just because it wasn't as thriving as it was in other areas, didn't mean it wasn't a possibility. And the more Maddie thought of it, the more it seemed to fit. The shaking and sweating, the sudden sickness, the insistence that he needed to go to school... If he had managed to take something, it could describe his current state too.
Maddie took a deep breath through her nose. She wasn't going to panic yet. She just needed to make a plan. They were going to get home, and she was going to run tests for a possible possession. If they came back positive, she'd know exactly how to get whatever sorry excuse for a spirit that’d decided to target her baby out. She would make sure that it never happened again. If it came back negative, well...
Her eyes drifted to the mirror again for just a second, just enough to see Danny in the backseat, exactly as he had been when she started this drive. If her tests came back negative she'd figure something else out. He was her son, and she wasn't going to let him face whatever this was alone, no matter what.
They came back negative. Every test that Maddie did was negative, or as negative as they always did for Danny. Possession, overshadowing, excess ectocontaimination that might interfere with brain activity, everything. Negative across the board.
Maddie had hoped that it would be easy, but it was clear it wasn't. Danny still sat on the table in the lab, just as still as he had been for the past hour, his hands still clenched in his lap. He still wouldn't reply to anything. The good news was, if this was some kind of drug trip (and Maddie was almost certain it was at this point) he'd long since passed the risk of any kind of overdose. All that they could really do was wait it out.
Maddie hoisted herself up on the table and sat next to Danny. Even though he didn't look like he was going to do much of anything, she didn't feel comfortable leaving him unattended, especially in the lab. "You know that I love you, Danny," Maddie said, more to fill the silence than anything else. She wasn't even certain he was able to hear her, or would remember anything she said. "I'm always going to love you. But I'm worried."
She sighed, propping her hands on her knees and letting her face fall into them. "I don't know where I went wrong. You were such a bright young boy. You still are, in some ways. But in others, things like this happen, and... Sometimes I wonder what happened to my baby boy."
"I died." Maddie raised her head sharply, looking over to where Danny sat. He was looking at her with eyes the same color as the portal behind him. Her hand went to her waist instinctively to grab the blaster she always had, but nothing was there. She'd taken it off so it didn't disrupt the tests.
Whatever was pretending to be Danny didn't seem to care about her panic, even as she stumbled off the table to go get it. It just kept talking in an echoing bastardization of her son's voice. "But I decided to keep playing at human, to keep pretending that nothing was wrong, that everything was fine. For years."
It was laughing by the time Maddie's hand found the blaster, a laugh that sent shivers down her spine. "It's a miracle it took me this long to figure it out." Maddie raised the gun at the creature as it jumped down from the table, its feet never touching the ground. "But I'm done pretending." It a blink of the eye, her Danny was gone, replaced with the ghost she'd been hunting for as long as the portal had been opened. Phantom.
"I'll see you around, Mom," it said, its voice still not changing. Still Danny's. But it was Phantom's too, her mind connected. And it was Phantom's eyes on Danny's face, with a suit that matched the one on the wall behind him with the colors flipped.
He disappeared before she could decide whether to shoot or not. The blaster fell out of her hand as she fell to the floor, shaking.

Finished '&' by Mari Okazaki
Just wanted to do a little post of manga I've been reading lately. I make these on Twitter sometimes but I figured I don't post much on here and may as well make one for Tumblr peeps too.
& by Mari Okazaki was a very beautiful romance drama that asks what is love
Tumblr media
I was really intrigued by this series despite going in blind. I only picked it up mostly knowing of Okazaki's notoriety as well as the fact this was licensed by Tokyopop way back when.
Firstly the art was absolutely gorgeous. Just top tier. It was very dreamy and ethereal while having a bit of edge to it at the same time. There were several pages of wordless interactions between characters that I lingered on for longer than if I was reading text.
Tumblr media
The story was also really good although just not as engaging at all times. I really loved the main character of Kaoru. She was always trying so hard to do her best and everyone else just constantly put her down. She unfortunately never really got a big 'Fuck you' moment though. I don't know if she really *needed* one perse but it just would've been more cathartic with how much everyone around her just never let her live. Constantly giving unwarranted advice that she always took to heart.
The two male characters were absolutely atrocious though. At times I would be like "okay they're doing better" but then they'd just say or do the stupidest thing that would make me wish Kaoru would drop both of them. The doctor character clearly had trauma and it made sense why he couldn't fully commit to a relationship... but man.... would he still annoy me so much. You can be non-committal and not be an asshole at least. Also he wore crocs so like I did not see what Kaoru saw. The other male lead Shiro was an embarrassment. I was rooting for him more in the beginning but by the end the man was so inept at communicating that I wanted him gone as well.
A few of the female side characters were compelling and I wish we had more time with them. We did get the extra chapters that focused on them more but I would've liked even more. They were both flawed but still likable people.
Tumblr media
In the end, it was a really engaging series. Sometimes being mad at characters is a good thing because it keeps you reading and interested. I thought the ending was perfect too although a bit rushed. Overall a really good series that was a great introduction for Okazaki's work. I'm going to be checking out Suppli hopefully soon.
Tumblr media
Ended up giving the series a 7.8/10

Chapter 6: Stuck Like Glue
June specified that they were talking about themselves, not humans in general. That way I'm not lying. Still, June's shoulders slacked with the lies he carried.
“Nope. I don’t feel pain—” AH! Wait, normal humans feel pain. No—Tristan told me some humans don't. “I was born very different from humans…I don’t feel pain, so I won’t get hurt if you throw me.” June was blissfully unaware of his friend’s intentions.
He felt the extra squish from Sam’s anticipation.
These words from June were all it took to remove the inhibitors from Sam’s questionable urges. They stood up, June in hand, and looked around for a suitably clear path from them to the wall.
They looked down at the human in their hand, and a moment of hesitation hit them. Am I sure they’re not gonna get hurt?
Unfortunately, Sam’s excitement was beating out the shred of concern they had, aided by the fact that they trusted whatever came out of this human’s mouth. Probably more than they should. Hey, he said it was fine!
Sam eyed the blank spot on the wall ahead of them and gave June one last look, their nerves buzzing with excitement. A wide grin spread across their face. “Alright, little buddy, I gotta see this.”
That was all the warning the giant gave before winding their arm back and flinging the unsuspecting slime towards the wall as hard as they could.
June swung back with Sam's arm, then with the velocity of a thousand meteors, his body collided with the wall. June's body splatted against the wall and flattened upon impact.
He at least maintained the fleshy color of his "skin". As if a human could do this.
He went as flat as construction paper before popping back into his humanoid shape. His fell from the wall and bounced back onto the ground like a bouncy ball. He chortled softly, completely unharmed.
June laid with his back against the floor, looking at Sam upside-down because of his head’s angle.
“That was so much fun!” June had endured plenty of high falls on his old world too. “You throw really fast!”
Sam watched the scene unfold before them with amazement, their eyes sparkling with childish glee. This was helped by June’s enthusiasm, who was amazingly unharmed by this whole thing.
“That was SO FUCKING COOL!” they exclaimed, running over to June and picking them up in a fit of excitement. “I’ve never tried anything like that with a human before.”
Their mind buzzed with possibilities. The first thing that came to mind was kicking June around like a little human hackey-sack, but they put that thought aside. For now.
The second thought was, obviously, showing June off to Christopher and providing him with a demonstration. But…nah, they’d wait until tomorrow.
Sam casually tossed June up in the air like a wadded-up piece of paper before catching them again. “You are by far the coolest human I’ve ever found, little buddy.”
June liked the rush of air when being thrown up and then caught.
The slime’s body bubbled happily. Coolest? Me? He knew the human vernacular meant one of two things. It could mean that he was cool to the touch—but…June was fairly certain his body wasn’t cold. Which meant…
He clung to Sam’s hand, affectionately. “You mean it?!”
“Hell yeah!” Sam resisted the urge to toss June at the wall again, though their arm itched to do so. “You got any more cool tricks?” They took a seat back at their desk, still holding June securely (a relative term if there ever was one) in their hands, subconsciously squeezing parts of June between their fingers as they did so.
June had plenty of “cool tricks.” But I can’t show Sam any of them! He whined in his head as Sam squeezed again. He didn’t mind it—he let the gentle rolls of Sam’s clutch and release massage him.
“None that I can think of,” June replied. His big, round, curious eyes looked up at Sam. “What about you? Do you have any really cool tricks you can do?”
Sam thought about it for a while. They didn’t think June would be overly impressed by their amateur lockpicking skills. They turned back to their PC, remembering what they had been distracted from earlier. Suddenly, their eyes glanced over one of the icons on the desktop, and a wide smile broke on their face. They hadn’t had someone to show off to in a long time, and the excitement almost bubbled over in them.
“OH! I’ve been working at getting this sixth-level map and I think I’ve mastered it,” Sam enthused, getting swept away in their addiction to their favorite rhythm game. They were about to position their fingers over the keys as usual when they realized they’d have to let go of the squishy human to do so. They let go of June, though with the slightest hint of reluctance.
“Here, here, check this out.”
For the next hour, Sam gave June a front-row view of a very flashy, colorful display with both the game and RGB lighting of their keyboard, mouse, and PC lighting up and swapping colors as they played. It was clear Sam had some level of skill with the game. Sam gave June more information and fun facts about the game than the slime would ever want to know.
June, situated between Sam and their keyboard, watched the screen bustling with joy. He cheered Sam on when they did well, and served their famous special encouragement platter when they messed up, which they freely served to friends 7 days a week.
June himself wasn’t skilled with games—many times, he would end up staring into space when he played, admiring the beautiful scenes instead.
In this case, the lights of the keyboard pulled him away. He wasn’t bored by any means—he simply felt happy to be there and to observe his new friend succeed.
This opportunity was granted by his glasses—before, the world was pretty dark, nearly black with sprinkles of energy-filled light from individuals. And now, he could see everything in awe-inspiring detail.
The game would be entertaining enough that Sam would almost forget about the fact that they had a human to eat with them—at least, until their stomach started growling again.

Chapter 4 (667 words)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The next time they met wasn’t planned. It happened on a cloudy afternoon when yn was rushing to the library, his mind preoccupied with the student council campaign and the never-ending assignments. As he walked through the crowded school courtyard, he failed to notice the figure approaching from the opposite direction until it was almost too late.
“watch out!” a familiar voice called out, and yn’s reflexes kicked in just in time to prevent a collision. He stumbled a step back, heart racing as he looked up to see Beomgyu standing there, an amused smile on his face.
“seems like you’re always in a hurry, yn,” beomgyu said, his tone teasing.
Yn couldn’t help but roll his eyes, though there was a small hint of lingering smile on his lips. “and you’re always where you’re not supposed to be.”
Beomgyu chuckled. “Fair point. I was actually on my way to the art room.”
Yn raised an eyebrow, suspecting. “the art room? Why? Some girl asked you to come there or something?”
Beomgyu’s smirk grew wider, and he shook his head. “nope, no confessions this week, I’m kinda worried as well. But to answer your question, I’m working on something for the campaign.”
Yn couldn’t help but get intrigued, “really? Then what are you working on?”
Beomgyu’s eyes lit up with excitement, eager to tell what he has been doing recently, “designing some posters! I thought I could put some of my talent to good use.”
“I didn’t know you were well acquainted in the art sector as well, can I see them?” yn asks
“hmm, lemme think about it,” Beomgyu teased, tapping his chin in a playful manner. "I mean, I can't just show my brilliant creations to anyone, you know. They're a work of art."
Yn couldn't help but chuckle at Beomgyu's antics. "Alright, Picasso, I'll take your word for it. But seriously, designing posters for the campaign sounds like a great idea."
Beomgyu's grin turned genuine, and he nodded in agreement. "Exactly! That's why I thought it would be a nice addition to our campaign strategy. I'm planning to make them extra vibrant and catchy to grab everyone's attention."
Yn leaned against a nearby wall, his fatigue momentarily forgotten as he listened to Beomgyu's enthusiasm. "You really seem passionate about this."
Beomgyu's expression softened, and he met Yn's gaze. "Yeah, well, I believe in making things memorable, and this campaign is important. Besides, working on it gives us a chance to, you know, spend more time together."
Yn's heart skipped a beat at Beomgyu's words. He had to admit that there was something about Beomgyu's presence that he found oddly comforting. "I suppose it does."
Tumblr media
When they entered the art room, yn was greeted by a burst of colors and the faint scent of paint. Beomgyu’s sketches were scattered across a large table, and as yn approached, he couldn’t help but be impressed by the creativity and attention to detail in each one.
“these are amazing,” yn said genuinely, his eyes still fixated on the sketches.
Beomgyu chuckled softly, and yn felt a warm shiver run down his spine. “thanks, yn. I wanted them to reflect our school’s spirit.”
As Beomgyu explains yn each and every process for creating the enchanting posters, yn notices their shoulders against each other more than once. Every accidental touch sent a jolt of electricity through him, making it increasingly difficult for him to focus on the conversation.
Beomgyu must have sensed the tension because he suddenly ceases the talk and looks up at yn, meeting his gaze. Their eyes lock for a moment, and yn feels his cheeks flush. He wasn’t sure if it was the atmosphere of the art room or something else.
Their proximity was electrifying, and when Beomgyu finally breaks the silence, his voice was softer, more intimate. “you know, yn, I’m really glad we’re working on this together.”
Yn swallowed hard, his heart ponding in his chest. “me too.”

Chapter Twenty-Five (Part 2)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Life settles into a comfortable rhythm quickly once Jude is home. I go to work where I’ve spent the day usually not concentrating, and come home to find him on the steps of our apartment, we exchange a couple of words, ask about each other’s day, and then we rush to bed and spend the next several hours getting each other off until we’re hungry enough to stop. We’ll have eggs, maybe toast, cheese, or whatever else is in the fridge and then fall back into bed again.
Tumblr media
Sometimes I get up to do my morning runs with Shane, conscious of the fact that time with him is running out, and yet usually, unless Jude comes with us I’ll find myself tangled up in the sheets with him for an extra hour, maybe two, making me late for work more times than I can count.

“I’m getting pissed off at you,” Simon tells me when I drag my exhausted body up the stairs at eleven in the morning and slump into my desk. “Like, I know I’m not paying you a salary but I’d like it if you actually showed up on time, it feels like, you know, a bit of a basic thing…” He rants on for a while while I gaze out the window, and then eventually he tells me that I’m in for a week of cleaning paper off the floor and organising the shelves. It’s fine, it’s hard to focus on being creative when most of my brain power is used up thinking about orgasms instead.
Tumblr media
The investment firm in Sandyford rejects Jude’s application in mid June, and he is incensed. “Didn’t they even look at my portfolio?” He’s complaining as we skate around a roller rink in west Dublin. “My CV is solid, my work is good, I just think they don’t know what they’re missing.”
“Maybe it’s because your degree is irrelevant,” I point out, and he huffs with annoyance. “A degree shouldn’t matter, if a person is good then they’re good.”
I laugh at his pouty face, “You’re sounding like you’ve never been rejected before.”
“I have, of course I have,” But when I ask him when those rejections were he can’t seem to think of any, which proves my point. Mister five hundred points in the leaving cert, 1.1 fine arts degree is finally getting a taste of what it’s like to be just like the rest of us. I tell him that this fact is quite satisfying to me and he cracks a smile. “Well, I didn’t want to work in an investment firm anyway, so it’s not like I really care that much.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He keeps the momentum up and applies for two other jobs, one as a content designer for a recruitment consultant, and the other as a runner for a soap opera. Both reject him fairly quickly. He gets the first email while we’re bowling with Claire and Shane, and the other while we’re visiting Jen at Michelle’s house. He is so devastated both times that we spend the night afterwards over analysing what he might have done to make them dislike him, as though there was some direct personal reason behind it all.
Tumblr media
“I suppose that it’s just hard to break into a new career,” I say in an attempt to be soothing as he stares despondently at my bedroom ceiling. “Once you’re in and you have some experience then I assume it gets easier, but like, I don’t know. I’m just hoping that’ll be the case for me when I have Mezzotint on my CV.”
“It’s the recession,” He announces, although I’m not really sure that we’re technically still in one. “There’s just no creative jobs available except for these corporate nightmare ones.”
“The runner job wasn’t corporate.”
“But the pay was shit,” I can’t argue with this, so I say something vague about everything happening for a reason, and then I do a quick google search for creative jobs in Dublin and find almost nothing of relevance.
Tumblr media
“There’s an opening for a… um, a technical design coordinator/manager?”
He throws his neck back onto the mattress in frustration and misery, “What the fuck does that mean?”
“I’ve no clue, but there’s also an instructional designer position for-”
“Look, it’s okay, Evie,” he puts his hand over my screen and pushes it away, “I think I’ll just wait and see. Something is bound to come up.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But by late June nothing has, and he starts to feel tetchy again. We get away for the weekend to keep his mind off it, and while we sun ourselves on the beachside deck of our West Cork glamping cabin I feel inspired to ask him, “Have you considered widening your job search? Maybe there are jobs outside of Dublin that you could do.”
He considers this, “I suppose. Maybe if the commute wasn’t so bad, or if I could get a little flat somewhere, then I’d come visit you on the weekends.”
I’d prefer him to be close to me in Dublin, but at this point it really does feel like we’ll take what we can get. He gets out his phone and I look in as he opens to jobs within 500km. Dozens suddenly load up, and I’m briefly ecstatic before I quickly realise that the majority of them are in England.
Tumblr media
“Oh,” I say, reading down the list, “London, London, London, Manchester, Bristol, London, London.”
“Useful for next year,” He mumbles, and hits the off button.
“I’m sorry, Jude,” I say, and he takes my hand to kiss it. “It’s going to be fine. Maybe it’s just because it’s summer, you know? People are on holiday, nothing much is happening. I’m sure that by September there’ll be more jobs. And anyway, I think it’d be nice for us to just spend time together and enjoy the weather.”
“Maybe you should just apply to a job in England,” I say defeatedly, “I think you’d be happier if you were working.”
He rubs his eyes, “Yeah, maybe, I don’t know. I just hate the uncertainty of it, you know, like everything in my life felt like it was laid out until now. I went to elementary school, then secondary school and college and it seemed obvious. Now it’s like… what do I do next?”
Tumblr media
I tell him I don’t know what to say, because these thoughts frighten me too, but most adults seem to have figured something out. We sit in a bleak silence for a while contemplating our choices and our futures and then Jude gets a burst of manic energy and insists we go and get some chips from a takeaway so that we can be distracted from depressing things.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We make a rule then that we can’t talk about jobs. Applying to them, relocating for them, cover letters, CVs, these all become forbidden topics. As a result we have a perfect weekend. We swim in the Atlantic, we explore the Beara Peninsula and marvel over the views of the mountains across the bay and little colourful houses dotting the coast. It’s sheep and spongy seaside grasses, dramatic, ocean worn cliffs and other beautiful things that are so different from our slice of the country, and when the evening falls and we huddle back into our cabin, Jude figures out how to put the stove on and we sit on the rough, worn rug and watch as the stars rise over Bere Island.

What are some Marth facts
I DONT ACTUALLY HAVE MARTH FACTS... i'm at like. chapter 8 of shadow dragon. outside of my realization of "holy shit, this guy is the autism creature" i dont have many more character thoughts
okay yeah yesterday i discovered that after mystery of the emblem the fucker apparently untied SEVEN countries into a super state somehow. because all the rulers were either a) dead or b) decided that they want out of this shit so marth can have it
very funny to finally have context on why an awakening lore event was called "the schism" because the people of that super country got into a religious spat and split in three.
uhhh. marth has a sister who looks identical to him and it's SUPER hard to tell apart elice (marth's sister) and caeda (marth's wife) in official art. wild. i think this speaks more about FE character design than about marth though.
UM. in all of his mainline games, marth can't actually promote. his unique promoted class, lodestar, was actually created specifically for fire emblem warriors, which requires all units to be promotable. despite lodestar being his associated title and class ever since (most notable in fire emblem engage's "lodestar rush", which is emblem marth's engage attack) there is no main game where marth actually has that class!
warriors is really fun marth has a neat moveset in it.
maybe it's interesting that in shadow dragon, a vast majority of characters aren't actually recruited by marth? they're recruited by caeda, which is really funny. caeda rolls up to someone like "hey. join me or stab me. i know you fucking won't, pussy," and the person goes "dang. guess i'll join you" and then they go talk to marth like "hey so i uh-" "you're joining us. cool." "kay! thanks!"
it's fantastic
really he is in fact the blandest sword boy ever but something about the resting bitch face of his SD portrait combined with the sheer unflappable bluntness of his dialogue has captivated me. like yeah. yeah.
salem ana and I have concluded that motivational speeches are just his default social script. he figured out that this makes people happy and always works so whenever he doesn't know how to deal with a situation he starts talking about the power of friendship, and that's why all his extra canon appearances are Like That.
like. okay that's absolutely not the intent, but it's way funnier to read him this way.
alear: "marth, i'm sad." marth: (oh shit. fuck.) "alear have you considered your bonds." alear: "marth, you're right! there's no need to be sad if you're here with me :)" marth: (SUCCESS.)

FOR THE HOPE OF IT ALL
Chapter 5: The Duel
I wake up feeling light in my mind after the time I spent with Sebastian yesterday. My mind wanders back to certain moments. His thumb, stroking my upper lip. Him putting his scarf around my neck. Something so simple, but yet it makes my heart rush and butterflies flutter in my stomach. I push away the thoughts that say that his actions were simply friendly. Perhaps they were, but given the sparks I felt - he must have felt at least a small, electric rush.
During Defence Against the Dark Arts class, I see him chatting with a Ravenclaw girl. I never noticed her before. She is really beautiful. Long and dark hair, a small, pointy nose covered in freckles and a smile that would have anyone fall for her in an instance. He looks caught up in their conversation and does not even seem to have noticed me. A rush of jealousy is running through my entire body, making all the lightness from yesterday fade away. Ominis, who is sitting next to me, leans in.
''Sebastian seems to enjoy his company.'' His voice sounds as if he's taunting me.
''He sure does.'' I mutter, trying to ignore the fact that I spent extra time this morning making my hair look good. Just for him.
''Maybe he found a new a charge.'' Ominis says, obviously mocking me. ''Isn't that what he used to call you last year? His charge?''
''Only at the beginning of the year.'' I reply with a cold voice. Ominis seems to notice that I'm upset and gives me a kind smile.
Professor Hecat interrupts our conversation. She clears her throat loudly.
''As you all know, we always start the first class off the year with a duel between two students.'' She says in a calm voice. ''Last year we had quite an eventful end of the year where students had to show a great deal of bravery, but one more than others. Hence, Y/n will be the first duelist.''
The classroom claps their hands. Most of them had heard about the events that happened right below their feet at Hogwarts, but no one had seen it with their own eyes. But what most of them had seen was the Crossed Wands final, where Sebastian and I demolished our enemies. This had given both of us a certrain reputation when it came to duelling.
''I know the competition is hard. Therefore, I will not pick anyone from the class to face her. I'm going to need a volunteer.'' Hecat says.
Sebastian's hand flies up in the air. Professor Hecat nods with satisfaction. I'm surprised he volunteered, given how busy he seemed to be with his new friend.
''Very well. Up you go.'' She almost pushes Sebastian in front of her as she summons the table we are going to duel on.
We walk up on opposite ends and look into each other's eyes. I get a flashback from my first day last year, when I beat Sebastian in my very first duel. It was that specific duel that made us become friends. I remember how cocky he was before the duel, but also how humble he was afterwards. Hecat gives us a thumbs up, indicating that we can start.
''I'll go easy on you, new girl.'' Sebastian grins.
''You know there's no such thing as easy about me.'' I say while raising my eyebrows and casting Levioso in the same moment, catching him off guard.
Sebastian gets a few good hits on me, but he stands no chance against me. When Hecat calls the duel, as well as the class, to be over we shake hands for a good duel.
''You're right,'' Sebastian admits. ''There really is nothing easy about you, but that's what keeps me drawn to you like a moth to a flame.''
I laugh a bit. His stupid saying with moths to a flame. I first heard him say it when we visited Hogsmeade together a year ago. But then it sinks in, that he just called himself a moth and me the flame.
''It was just luck.'' I lie, knowing that he will see through it as well.
''We both know there is no such thing as luck when it comes to wandwork.'' He is right. ''Given how much I helped you when you were new at Hogwarts, I think it's in place that you help me become a better duelist.''
''I suppose that's fair,'' I say, proud that he would want me to be his tutor. ''But I can't go around sharing all of my best tricks, I need to remain on top of the duelist score board.''
He laughs and pulls his hand through his hair.
''Whatever you say,'' He grins and tilts his head. ''If I can just get a little bit of what you had, the rest will fear me in a duel.''
I agree to meet him in the Undercroft tonight, looking forward to some time alone. I try to make the time pass quicker by entertaining myself with some broom-related activities, but not even flying through the sky seems to make the time go by faster. I practice on Imeldas tracks, beating her time records every single round and I smile at myself thinking about how entertaining it would be if I were to apply to be quidditch captain.

After Dark (Choso kamo x female reader)
Chapter 4: Eros and Apollo
Warnings: graphic depictions of sexual acts. Minors DNI
Word count: 11,199
Y/n spent the remaining weeks of the first semester finishing up the last of her projects, a routine for her dance classes, and a fillled out sketch book with notes for her art classes. In the background of all of that she was busy in her free time prepping for her party. She’d told the group the plans after the expo, the twins earnestly pushed to help, and Y/n was glad to accept it. What she didn’t know was that the twins had planned thier own little surprise for Y/n during the party.
The group was busy, everyone having their own end of semester projects, exams and finals fast approaching. But they all-like Y/n- were doing their own prepping. Yuji and Sukuna had convinced, though it wasn’t hard, for everyone to bring something. The twins decided to each do something separately, partial due to differing tastes, but also to show thier appreciation. Once that had been decided the group went radio silent with each other, allowing themselves time to focus and prep.
It was a Thursday in December when Y/n was finished with her first semester, the weather had turned and snow covered everything in sight. She was rushing around the campus, similar to her first day, getting everything finished up while also half setting up for her return after winter. She only had two days left to get the party set up, she was almost done, having to only grab a few final things; an extra hotpot, a larger kotatsu blanket and a large cake for Yuji. A congratulations for officially becoming a firefighter. By the time Y/n had gotten off campus the sun was all but gone and winters night had crept overhead, she was rushing back home, having to walk half the distance in the journey to finsh her shopping, taking a cab the rest of the way; returning to a cold apartment. Very cold. Y/n’s model work didn’t last long after the contest, finding odd work here and there, but ultimately having to cut back on meny expenses. But this would be the last night in a cold home, at least for the next few days. Y/n set her living room up in a welcoming manner, the kotatsu sitting near the balcony door, in front of her small couch; allowing for just enough room for everyone and a hotpot table.
Friday morning, Y/n was up early, the sun was freshly up, not able to warm the ground yet. Y/n had taken up sleeping in her living room under the kotatsu, the best way to stay warm in the cold apartment. Some small enjoyments came from it, one being able to watch the snow fall over the city from the balcony door. The window in her bedroom only looked at the dank alleyway between the apartment and a duplex building. She found a routine of sitting just outside her apartment on the balcony with a cup of coffee and a cigarette, it was peaceful, albeit cold. Today was no different, wrapping herself in her thickest robe and sitting on the balcony.
The morning sun ignited the world in colors of blue before it was high in the sky, the wind was cold and the light warm, a peaceful calm settled over Y/n. The calm did not last long however, she was pulled back to the waking world by the small alarm coming from her phone. She sighed to herself, the moment broken, but it was for the better, her face was growing red as well her nose and ears began to burn. The rest of the morning went on without any excitement, she was able to get her home fully prepped for the party that night. It was a little passed noon when everything was said and done.
Y/n was feeling restless, needlessly moving about her apartment, until three’ o’clock, when she could finally start cooking. She’d accounted for everyone showing up, then doubled the portions, she hoped it would be enough and then some. However most of the food didn’t have to be cooked until the party was going and the hotpot ready, but she planed for this too. The two dishes she was working on were all hearty family foods, that conveniently would take a few hours in the oven. She settled on a haring pie, and a spinach artichoke bake, two things her Father would make in the winter, something he grew up with that passed to her; it was odd to some, but a comfort Y/n looked forward to every winter.
Everything was going smoothly, the pie was already cooking and the bake would be ready soon, she was in the midst of adding the final ingredients; cheese and cream. But there was none, not anywhere in the whole apartment. She was baffled, she swore she’d picked some up, she distinctly remembered putting it on her ever changing grocery list. In a huff she swiped up her phone and pulled up her notes. But there was nothing added, but in the edit history, of anywhere else on the app. She felt a little crazy, she knew she typed it out, but now she was even doubting that. The bake was simmering away while she spiraled into a plan, something she could do to fix this small hiccup, she was interrupted by knocking at her door.
——
Choso was the only one- other than Sukuna- who wasn’t busy, not in the school sense. He still had his normal work, the only out of place thing he had to do was set everything up for his next year at the school, a gurgling process, but one all said and done he was able to forget about it for the time being. Choso filled his free time with tests and experiments with food. He thought the twins idea was perfect, and luck having it that cooking was one of his hobbies, though he wasn’t perfect by any means, he’d burned more then preferd of the recipes he’d tried. So he used this time to try out new things and a few old reliables. For him everything was working more or less to his satisfaction; however he had to ditch two things in the end, only bringing his favorite- and best- food; spinach puffs. He’d made them perfect, had them all ready and stored in the fridge the night before, just needed to be thrown in tree oven to warm up; he felt very proud of his work.
However he was up late that Thursday night, cooking the amount he did and getting everything cleaned up took his most of the night in to the late hours. It took him even longer to whined down for bed, he was half asleep by 2am. Choso was thinking about the next day, hopeful and excited, but he couldn’t admit to himself why. Couldn’t admit that for the last few months he’d been falling asleep smiling, happy. This night was no different, other than the rush of anticipation that was coursing through his system, he was happily drifting off. He was jolted from his half sleep by his phone vibrating against his nightstand. For a split second he thought it was morning, but the darkness surrounding assured him it wasn’t. The buzzing of his phone stopped quickly, he grabbed it up and through half lidded eyes red a text through the blinding light of his phone.
“Need ricotta cheese, heavy cream, milk.” It was from Y/n. It confused Choso immediately, he sat up in his bed, lowered the brightness of the screen and red the text again to be double sure he got it straight. He blinked a few times and the information slowly processed in his tired brain, figuring the text was an accident, he began to type up a reply, but something in him haunted him. ‘I can grab it.’ The little voice in his head said, reassuring him that his first thought- the impulse thought- was the right one. He returned his phone to the night stand and slipped back down in bed. He fell asleep with a new thought of anticipation.
He woke with his alarm the next morning, though he wasn’t attempting to wake up early, just past 10 still felt to soon. He nearly springing out of bed to start his day. The memory of last night clear in his mind, however he still had hours before he could leave, reluctantly he went about his normal morning. By late afternoon he was bubbling over, Choso couldn’t handle the waiting for much longer, so be opted to get ready for the evening, hoping it’d kill some time. He dressed for the occasion and weather, simple thick jeans, tee shirt and sweater. He truly put little thought into it, his mind occupied, but he’d be warm. When he finally had enough waiting he grabbed the food he’d made and left for the store. The party wouldn’t start for another few hours, but while driving to the store Choso rationalized to himself that Y/n would need those things before the party. Though he had no way to know that for sure, it was only a guess he was running with. Just in case he went to a tore that was out of his way, again hoping it would take up some time. But the weather and general time of year had the roads clear and businesses quiet, he was in and out in under ten minuets. Even with grabbing other odds and ends he was back in his car and on the road again.
By the time Choso arrived at Y/n’s apartment complex it was just past 5pm, he remembered the code for the gate and was able to park in the spiraling garage. For a good five minuets he sat in the dank parking space, thinking to himself about how he found himself in this position, how this kept happening. But he knew how, he knew what he was doing, knew he was crossing boundaries at every chance he got. And this was no different, or this is what he thought in that moment. Choso decided in that moment that this was a now or never decision, if he went up there he would have to tell the twins how he felt, or leave and arrive with everyone else.
Y/n stained at her front door as if it suddenly combusted, she was baffled, and for a second thought she imagined it. The apartment was quiet, the only thing she could hear was the simmering of her pot, but then another knock came from the door. Her eyes shot wide, but her feet stayed planted, it was a beat before she made for the door. All in a rush she was at the door, she was about to wing the door open but stopped herself at the last second, instead she gingerly opened the door just enough to show her head and upper body. Y/n was more than surprised to see Choso standing on the other side holding several full plastic bags, looking as puzzled as Y/n.
Choso was practically cheerleading himself to get out the car and up to Y/n’s apartment, while standing in front of her door he jumped back and forth on what he was doing. Even after the first knock. He was unsure, almost hopeful she wouldn’t answer. But then he knocked again, a little harder and louder, his resolve hardening as he heard her fast foot steps approaching the door, almost like she was enraged. However when she pocked her head out she was anything but. Y/n’s expression was of pure surprise, her shimmering eyes wide and mouth in a small O shape. He imaged his expression wasn’t far from her own. There was a long pause where no one spoke, Choso still standing in the small hall, and Y/n with her head just picking out of the doorframe.
“What are-Why-uh.” Y/n sputtered out, starting various questions that she ended abruptly out of befuddlement. She’d forgoed holding the door closed over her body, and allowed it to sway open, though the heavy door still came to rest against Y/n. Choso wiped the confusion from his expression, he became a wash of calm, as the longer he stood there the more he wanted to stay, and guilt or regret gone for he decided what path he would stay on. Choso wen to talk, answer one of her half questions, but she stopped him by peeking into the bags he was still holding. “What’s that?” She asked while pointing towards the bag. The bags were semi transparent Y/n could see to mil;k containers and a stripe of red. Y/n half cocked her head to the side, half out of query and half out confusion.
Choso let out a chuckle that caused Y/n to look up at him. He held the bags out in front of him for Y/n to examine their contents, shocked to see he had the exact things she was missing. “You sent me a text last night,” he held the bags up a little higher, looking in them himself, “I thought you needed them. But now I’m guessing that wasn’t your plan.” Choso admitted, though he knew last night that it was probably a mistake. Y/n expression said as much, her eyes darting back to her kitchen at her phone then back to Choso when it fully hit her how she messed up. At fist Choso thought Y/n was upset, her shoulders shaking like she was crying, he was instantly filled with concerned. But it was erased when her sweet lasagna came roaring out.
“I texted you!” She spoke loudly though her laughs. “I thought I put it on a list. Oh god.” The laughing began to Jake her sides cramp, forcing her to subdue it. “I’m sorry Choso, I- that’s-“ She could barely get the sentence out, the laughing bubbling back up as giggles. Choso couldn’t help himself, the smile that grew on his lips and the laugh that formed in his chest. She was okay, so he was okay.
“That’s alright.” He said, using the words to forces his own laughter to stop. “No sweat off my back. I just figured you’d need this stuff.” He said in a half hearted manner while gesturing to the bags. Y/n eyes caught the other bags he was hauling around, bigger and full of not groceries. Choso saw her examination, however brief it was. “Oh this is something I was gonna bring tonight.” Suddenly he remembered the twins plan and the not vague threat Sukuna gave everyone, he did his best to avoid reveling too much. Y/n’s eyes were soft but full of joyful surprise, she tried to get a better look, but Choso pulled the bag away. “Hey hey, no peeking till more people show up.” He said in that charming flirtatious way that had Y/n melting. She giggled in response.
“Okay.” She said melodramatically, Y/n stepped to the side opening the door fully, one hand gesturing to the open space. “Come in.” She said after a moment when no one moved. Choso jumped slightly, mostly from his shoulders as he stepped into Y/n’s apartment. He was greeted by the smell of sweet bread, salted meat and cooking greens, the sensory sensation sent waves of comfort, warmth and security through him; similar to how he felt whenever he was with Y/n. Now it was just doubled as he entered her home. He stood a moment in the living room relishing in the comfort. Y/n didn’t stop him, knowing how cold it was out and how much they were all looking forward to tonight. She instead moved to her kitchen in a rush, suddenly reminded of her still cooking food. The bake was fine but she still watched it carefully as she stirred the pots contents, Choso watched her move back en forth in the kitchen for a second, seeing her fret over the pot reminded him of there begs clutched in his hands. He sat them down on the small kitchen island and stood just behind Y/n peeking into the pot. Near shocked to see a bubbling green mass, like something from a horror movie. But the smell was davine, he found himself leaning in to know better, lost in thought he’d bumped right into Y/n, who was covering the pot once more. A small ‘oh’ escaped her when the gently collided.
“Hi.” She uttered in a small voice.
Choso took a quick step back, an equally small “Sorry,” leaving him. Choso bumped into the island, he swiveled around until he was sitting on the bar seat. It was cartoonish how he bumped and jolted around until he was sitting, all of it made Y./n laugh as she covered the pot once again. He huffed at her. “It’s not my fault your kitchen is so tiny!” He said in that joking way, his tone more than teasing. Y/n scoffed in fuxe offense.
“Maybe you’re too tall!” She shot back, Choso rolled his head back and let out a ‘Ha’ loudly. Y/n was now standing at the island, half examining the bags. Choso raised a brow at her. “Well- Thank you, Choso.” She said whole heartedly, she scooped up the cheese and cream and made her way back to the stove.
Choso shot up grabbing the remaining ingredients and putting them in the fridge. “It’s no problem. Like I said, I thought you were asking me to go and I had no issues picking it up for you.” Choso paused a moment, his eyes glued to the floor, “It’s what the boys would have done, right?” The question had no right being said, he knew the answer without having to ask, but some part of him wanted permission to continue on, from her and the twins; in the back of Choso’s mind he wanted to see how Y/n would react. Though some part of it was the result of guilt. If Y/n did have as reaction she didn’t show it, but I’m her own mind she began to also question everything. She’d been so wrapped up in everything she hadn’t thought about the continues situation with Choso. And the mention of the twins reminder her of it.
She simple chuckled. “Yeah they probably would.” She laughed at the thought. “Those two would probably buy the whole store out of impulse.” Choso had moved back behind Y/n at the stove while she spoke, but he stepped to the side at the last second.
“Do you need any help?” Choso asked while he watched her work, adding the final ingredients, seeing them melt and join the rest of the medley of food. Y/n smiled at the looming man, she moved away from the stove and pointed towards the top of her shelves.
“I need a bake pan from up there. And I wouldn’t mind the help in getting it in the oven.” She said sweetly, she was in a giddy mood. Choso squinted at her, a smirk on his lips.
“Ah!” He exclaimed melodramatically, all while still doing as she asked, “I thought I was more than just height to you.” He had her laughing again, a sound he could never get tired of.
The next two hours went by in a blur, Choso helped with he little Y/n needed help with, but after that the two sat in the living room and talked. They warmed the kotatsu, set up the hotpot table and enjoyed each other’s company. They talked about what they expected and hoped for with the changing of the season. When the topic of work came up Choso was chagrin about the season in that aspect, work would be slow and he’d be doing more commission work. Y/n ran with the topic of art, sharing her current works and excitedly explaining her end of semester project. All the while in the back of her mind she was thinking about the sketches of Choso and the sketches he’d given to her. It was getting close to the time everyone would start arriving, Choso saw the deep thought Y/n was in, though it was short in reality.
“Something on your mind?” He asked, his tone hinting towards concern, but in the moment he felt more curious, her thoughtful expression told him she was analyzing and contemplating, she didn’t seem in distress. Y/n gave her attention to the man next to her, her expression didn’t change, she gave the same analytical look to, obviously deciding something.
She chose to be open, “Kinda, I’m thinking about your sketches.” She was still somewhat vague however. Choso hinted at this, his brows pulled together and eyes squinted slightly. She began to feel that flutter in her chest while under his gaze. She lowered her’s in response. “I really do love them. I think they’re beautiful.” Y/n met Choso’s eyes again. “I think your work is absolutely stunning. But with them here no one else get to see them.” Her passion was slipping out in her words, but she held firm in this. Choso drawled back some, his eyes soft, the corners of his mouth twitching upwards.
“Really?” Choso asked first, blinking a few times he lowered himself back down, “Why Though? I thought…” Choso let his sentence drift off, the meaning behind his words not lost on Y/n.
“Yes really. I know it’s expected,” Y/n gestured towards the front door, “Especially in our group, that I wouldn’t want them out there. But I chose to be a model. And you are by no means the only one who saw me and used my modeling.” She spoke with slight exhaust behind her tone, this having been a weighing thought for her. Her words hit Choso, he had gotten so bogged up in what everyone else thought, he didn’t consider if Y/n agreed with them or not.
“Oh.” He expressed first, a bit surprised, but his chest was warm and eyes bright. “I guess I didn’t think about it that way.” He felt a pang of guilt, assuming the twins automatically knew what Y/n thought and felt. Y/n saw the mixed emotions on his face. Gently she placed a hand on his bicep, his eyes flickered to hers, he could see her concern, he went to speak, but she beat him to it.
“I get where everyone is coming from, and I guess I didn’t want to make anyone uncomfortable or somethin.” She spoke as if she was admitting something to herself more than to Choso. Unconsciously he leaned a little closer to her, his legs softly connecting with Y/n’s under the kotatsu’s blanket, she didn’t call attention to it; she was mooning herself. “But whenever I look at them I feel disconnected from them,” She fiddled with a puffed square of the quilt, it kept her talking. “They’re so beautiful, when I look at them I feel like I’m making a prayer. When I look at them I can’t see myself at all. I-“ Y/n cut herself off, her words caught in her chest, but she pushed passed the wave of doubt, “I have never seen myself like that, I don’t think of myself poorly or anything like that.” She stopped her fidgeting, “But sometimes I think, ‘there’s no way that’s me.” Her eyes were downcast during and for a bit after she explained. Y/n’s cheeks had grown hot, she held a string of embarrassment but it was mostly caused by the intense way and look Choso was giving her. Without having to look at him, she could feel how his eyes burned, how stoic he became.
Choso leaned closer in slowly while she spoke, stopping when he was essentially leaning over the top of the kotatsu, his arms had moved into Y/n’s line of sight but she didn’t notice them till the last second. Slowly but with no hesitation, Choso raised his hand to cup Y/n’s cheek, his thumb gliding down in a soothing motion. He directed her attention to him, his hand never leaving the round of her cheek, his large palm rests gently against her, but his long fingers danced on her neck. Their faces were only inches apart.
“Of course it’s you.” He began, his voice low and soft. “It couldn’t be anyone else. You say it’s beautiful but it can’t be you,” he leaned the smallest bit closer, Y/n could feel the heat of him. “But can’t you see that the beauty in those sketches, that is your beauty, that’s exactly how I see you.” Y/n’s heart swelled, all the heat in her body rushing to her face, she about gasped. They were centimeters apart, she could just barely feel his lips brush against hers. They were about to connect, but were annoyingly interrupted by Y/n’s phone blaring a loud alarm. One she’d set the night prior to signal for when everyone would start to arrive. Both let out a deep sigh, Choso recoiled his hand, but only moved a bit away, he was still close to Y/n. Who had slouched forward, her excitement and anticipation fort he party, topped with the current goings on, she was a bit exhausted but exhilarated all at once.
“I need to get everything ready.” She said reluctantly. Choso let out another lighter sigh while nodding in agreement.
“Yeah..I should probably leave huh?” He asked, he was hesitant but knew he couldn’t outright assume where the two of them stood. Y/n nodded, but her expression said otherwise.
“Yeah that’d probably be best right now.” She affirmed, but her words laced Choso with hope. He stayed a few minutes more, helping her with the food in the oven while she began the hotpot. Before long she was leading him to the door. “I’m guessing Yuji and Sukuna will be here soon, you should probably kill a little time.” She spoke in a disheartening way, remorseful that she has to send him away in such a manner. But Choso shrugged it off.
“Okay. I’ll drive up to the top of the garage, wait a bit, maybe shoot you a text, then I’ll haul ass back down here.” He wore that bright charming smile. Y/n smiled back at him, a firm nod in agreement with his plan. She was about to open the door for him, but was stopped by his hand returning to her cheek. Her eyes met his, looking up through her lashes, his expression had turned back to that sensuous and seductive look he was giving her minuets earlier. Her breath caught in her chest, forcing a soft gasp from her. Choso smirked in response, leaning further in, but he moved passed her wanting lips, till his own were brushing her ear, sending electric shivers down her spine. Purposefully ghosting his lips over the shell and rim of her ear. “I meant every word I said.” His words fanned against her skin, he’d moved down to her earlobe, giving it one quick gentle nip; a squeak like sound left Y/n. Choso had to hold back a chuckle. He did so by planting a kiss to Y/n neck, just under the corner of her jaw, lightly nipping at the soft flesh there. But he pulled away seconds after, his hand lingering while his thumb again stroking her rosie cheek. “I’ll see ya in a bit.” He pulled away fully, shooting her a wink before disappearing behind the door. Y/n was frozen for a bit, left standing a bit dumbfounded by Choso’s new found forwardness. Y/n ran to fingers over the spot where he kissed, it was still hot and the thought caused her blush to burn. But the timer on her stove pulled her back and had her rushing around until the first knocks came again from the door.
——
The twins were there first, Yuji and Sukuna knocked once then entered header apartment, they assumed correctly that her front door would be unlocked; however she actually forgot about locking it after Choso showed up. Yuji was immediately captivated by the mass of food y/n had prepared, Sukuna was equally impressed, but he kept himself silent. They announced the surprise the two had planned. Yuji reveling a larger container of his famous meatballs, while Sukuna brought a large pot of hock soup. Y/n was happily taken a back, almost unprepared for this, but she remembers Choso’s container and how he hid it away. She set up the kitchen island for their food and anything else the group might bring. Even going far enough to leave the oven on in case anything had to be reheated, she opened the kitchen window for safe measure.
The two in essence took over hosting duties for Y/n after Yuta band Megumi arrived. Sukuna being the one to seat Y/n at the hotpot table with the two brunettes, he’d found Y/n’s kitchen apron, wrapping himself in it in one motion. He and Yuji grabbed everything else. One turning some music on, one neatly serving the buffet style spread. Y/n received a text from Choso not long after Yuji and Sukuna arrived, she didn’t mean to make him wait, but she took that moment- even with Yuta and Megumi beside her- to shoot him a reply. As soon as the message was sent she pocketed her phone hoping no one saw.
In no time there was another knock on the door, Y/n expected at this point everyone would just enter, Sukuna had put up a quickly scrawled note on the outside of the door, but still a knock came. Y/n started to stand but Yuji stopped her, a single hand signaling to her. It didn’t matter though, he was at the door in a few strides. It was Maki, Mea and Nobara. Yuji smiled radiantly at the three, welcoming them in. Nobara couldn’t help but comment on the twins.
“What are you two doing? White knights much?” This earned a laugh from Maki and a shy giggle from Mea-something Nobara was quite proud of. Sukuna huffed at her remark, but said nothing.
“You’re one to talk Kugasaki.” Yuji responded with his own snarky comment, gesturing towards Mea with his gaze. Nobara grew red in the face, she shoved her container of food into Yuji’s hands before storming over to the hotpot table. Mea also placed- though in a nicer manner than Nobara - her container on top of the other, joining her girlfriend. Yuji just rolled his eyes before heading back to the kitchen, Sukuna was busy switching things in and out of the oven. Yuji moved to the table, placing even more food around the group, soon there wouldn’t be enough space. The group was joyfully caught up in a rousing conversation about the odd combination of lovingly prepared food, Yuji was standing over the group laughing along, and Sukuna was standing outside the kitchen leaning against the island, food piled up behind him.
One final knock came from the door, but this time Sukuna was the one to make fast strides to the door, the pink apron he wore a blur in his movements. He swung the door open in one smooth but not graceful move. Choso stood on the other side, the same container in his hands.
“Hey.” He said with a small wave. Sukuna looked him up and down before stepping to the side, he felt that something was off. Choso’s shoulders were slumped, but in a relaxed way, he was wearing a soft smile, he looked unlike himself. Sukuna only squinted though after his quick inspection, stepping to the side, while also I grabbing the container from him. “Those gotta be thrown in the oven for a few minuets.” The tall brunette instructed, Sukuna was already at the oven, setting his spinach puffs on a tray and into the oven, he did comment however.
“I knew you were gonna bring the puffs.” He proclaimed in that matter-of-fact tone, a gravely chuckle leaving him. Choso just huffed at him while he found a seat at the table. In a somewhat awkward way, he found a small empty space between Yuta and Y/n, the group was already packed in around the table, Y/n could only image what it’ll be like when everyone else shows up. Both twins as well as Megumi noted the way Choso be-lined to be next to Y/n, but no one said anything; Megumi did give Yuji a look, one he recognized as his ‘Just drop it’ face.
It wasn’t long after that Inumaki and Panda arrived, once everyone was present the party could ‘officially’ start. The hotpot table was too small for everyone to sit at, Y/n was a bit distressed by this, but the twins figured out a fast solution. Three of the guys sat on Y/n’s couch- Inumaki, Panda and Yuta- Maki, Mea and Nobara sat at the kotatsu, while Yuji and Megumi sat together at the hotpot. Choso had shifted to be in between the couch and hotpot table, but he was still technically next to Y/n. Sukuna sat opposite Y/n next to his twin. Somehow everyone fit in Y/n small apartment, in her small living room. It was quickly turning into a rousing night, the group sharing stories of their shared and different pasts. Y/n even took the opportunity to tell a story of one of the boys first fights, something both get flustered by. It had the large but tight knit group rolling with laughter. Y/n couldn’t help but comment on the food and all the work everyone put in.
“I can’t believe you guys did all of this, thank you.” She wore a glowing genuine smile, she turned to Yuji and Sukuna, “You two are somethin else. Thank you.” Yuji elbowed Sukuna, who moved to her other side, and the two of them gave her a quick but big hug. Most everyone had the same thought, or more question, ‘What is the real relationship between them?’ But three just brushed it off as the trio being themselves. The subject changed after that, Y/n asked about what everyone brought, everyone had the exact same thought, or the same result, something that was close to their hearts.
When it grew late into the night, after so much food, talk and merriment, the party started to end. Little by little everyone began to leave. Nobara, Maki and Mea left first, Yuta following close behind carrying their leftovers. Inumaki and Panda meandered, collecting as much leftovers as their containers would allow before they left. Megumi lingered as well, helping the twins pack everything up, it was comedic watching the three bump and collided into each other, Choso stayed in the living room to clean up, knowing how cramped that kitchen is. The four insisted Y/n just sit back and relax after everything, she was clearly tired. She didn’t protest, but couldn’t help herself from that little pang of guilt, however it was snuffed out by the three in the kitchen. Yuji kept accidentally elbowing Sukuna in the ribs, he was half shouting- trying to stay somewhat quiet in the small space- Megumi was stuck in between them. In all it took them a good 20 minuets to get the kitchen cleaned up and food put away. Choso was also done cleaning in the living room, storing the hotpot and small table away, and returning the kotatsu to the middle of the room. Y/n took a moment, moving out to her small balcony, wrapped in her robe, cigarette clutched between her fingers, the winter night air bit at her skin.
She was tired, each drag of the cigarette made her head feel more fuzzy, she slowly felt more than calm and relaxed. Her skin was hot from the night, food and laughter, the fridged air felt refreshing. But like in the mornings the wet and cold began to burn her feet and ears causing her to retreat inside. She tuned to open the door but it was sliding open on its own, Choso was stepping outside in that same moment, coat loosely draped over him. The two shared a look, his eyes we burning with a longing and passion that sent those butterfly’s into a state of crazed desire. She hid her eyes, face blushing once again, a mumbled ‘sorry’ left one of them, but it was lost in the small shuffle they did to pass each other. Choso let his hand glide over Y/n’s stomach as he passed, she had to stifle a gasp. The small exchange was hidden by their moving bodies, but Megumi saw the awkward stutter of their movements, and felt the surge of feeling and enegery in the air. His gaze lingered on them, following Choso’s movements as he closed the door behind him, how Y/n paused and glanced over her shoulder before sauntering over to the kotatsu. Megumi shifted his gaze to the twins still in the kitchen, the two were redressing in their winter wear, both unaware of what he saw.
“We’re heading out.” Yuji announced in a reluctant tone, his expression matching. Y/n jumped back up, rushing to meet them at the door. She hugged the two tightly.
“Thank you.” Her words were muffled with her face buried in the boys chests. Yuji looked at her softly, his free hand petting her head. Sukuna laughed boldly, his free hand patting her back.
“No problem.” His voice was low, the unmistakable gravel still there. “Like old times.” He said warmly. Sukuna Let go first, placing a quick kiss against the top of her head. Yuji’s actions were similar, tightening the hug and placing a feather light peck to her temple before letting go. She looked at Megumi who was in between the twins.
“Feeling left out, Gumi?” She asked teasingly. Not expecting him to reach out and pat her head.
“No, not around you three.” His comment had Yuji laughing again, even Sukuna was smiling. Y/n gave the brunette a quick hug, then saw them off. She stood in her doorway watching the three leave, standing there till they rounded the corner at the end of the hall. However, during the goodbyes, neither Yuji, Sukuna or Y/n payed mind to Choso who was still on the balcony, Megumi was the only one who shot a look at the balcony door before they left.
~~~~~
Y/n didn’t think about it, moving through her tiny apartment, going through the motions of winding down. But somewhere in the back of her mind she was very aware of Choso. She planted herself at the kotatsu, warming herself back up, she had a flash of a thought- turning the music back on- but she had to wait for another chance. Choso slid the door open, a gust of cold wind entering with him, but quickly halted by the door sliding closed. A beat of silence fell on them, anticipation tickled their spines and the spark of desire ignited the air between them. Choso didn’t move at first , he stood just in front of the balcony door, his eyes locked on Y/n, steely and vigilant. Y/n couldn’t control her feverous gaze, her eyes dragged up his body slowly till she met his eyes.
Y/n felt like prey under his hungry gaze, she wanted that feeling, to revel in it. Still neither moved. Choso sucked in a breath and held it for a few seconds, composing himself. Y/n watched, completely bewitched by him; his midnight hair that fell beautifully over his features, his tattoo always caught her eye and had her staring more at him, it really did highlight his eyes. But it also highlighted his micro expressions, the ones he hides behind the goofy, dramatic sarcasm. She was getting lost at just the sight of him, but he pulled her back when his eyes snapped open, again locking with hers. Smoothly he moved across the room to the opposite side of the kotatsu, directly in front of Y/n, in the process he discarded his coat- with his phone shoved purposefully away- giving his absolute attention to Y/n.
Choso placed his hands on the kotatsu’s top, open and in front of Y/n. She wasn’t sure what the gesture meant, it seemed like an invitation. It was to some extent, he held them practically flat against the table, his fingers twitched against the quilts fabric. Y/n ran with her first thought, hesitantly she placed her hands on the kotatsu’s top, sliding them towards Choso’s. He watched her, his eyes following her small movements until she stopped right in front of his. His eyes flicked up to meet her’s, the expression she wore stuck him right in the chest. Her eye’s were half lidded, her gaze directed at his palms, her cheeks were dusted in a rosy pink, and her lips- delicate and plump- were parted slightly. As she stopped her lips came together in a soft line, the contemplation was clear. Choso moved first, without hesitation he slipped his right hand under her’s, intertwining their fingers together. He was watching her petite hands, how the small jitter they had ceased as their hands settled together. Y/n was watching his intense expression while he moved their hands together, she was ready to thrust herself forward to connect hem once again, but she was stopped by Choso’s voice cutting through her thoughts.
“We’re always getting caught up in the small things, huh?” He asked, but it wasn’t truly a question, more a floating fact between them, they couldn’t get past the feeling of secrecy, nor have either had the will to voice their feelings. “Little distractions pull one of us away at the last second.” But Choso spoke as if they’ve already had some of the important conversations, almost skipping the awkwardness all together, it had Y/n blinking rapidly at him, processing what he was saying and where this was coming from. She agreed however.
“Right?” She questioned in agreement. “It feels surreal. Like we’re stuck in this liminal state of knowing each other.” She let out a dry chuckle, her eyes held the want she’d been trapped in. The want for a deeper companionship, for understanding, for the secrets to stop. Choso had switched to holding both of her hands in his, his thumbs rubbing soothing circles on the tops of her hands, her fingers tickled his palms with her own tiny movements of comfort. “I want to know you.” She said finally and firmly, but she couldn’t make her eyes meet Choso’s, feeling like she’d combust under his impassioned gaze. He squeezed her hands a little tighter, slowly he began to pull her hands towards him, she shot her eyes up at him. She was right, the intensity in which he bored into her had her melting where she sat.
Choso brought her hands up to his face, all without moving his upper body, lulling Y/n forward. His eyes never left Y/n, holding her attention. “I want to know you.” Choso’s words dripped with a craving, matched by the way he kissed up and down her hands, his lips soft, near gliding over her knuckles. It sent ripples of hot sparks up her arms, goosebumps prickling her skin up to her neck; a gasp she couldn’t contain slipped from her. Choso didn’t stop or hide his triumphant satisfaction. Y/n hid her eyes, her face a deep red, her petal pink lips in a pout. Choso dropped their hands, Y/n pouted at that too, more so when he released them.
She shot her attention to him, he was standing, swiftly moving to Y/n’s side of the kotatsu- she watched him earnestly- as he made his sway into sitting just behind Y/n. His long legs splaying out on either side of Y/n’s, he paused however, the gab between them considerable. She turned to him, her gaze upwards meeting his eyes. His expression surprised Y/n, his eyes had turned serious, mouth in a tight line, there was concern there too. She knitted her brows together, mouth slightly agape, asking with purely an expression. Choso softened his eyes first, “Are you okay? Is this okay?” His voice was sincere- if not a little shy- he’d gestured with his eyes between them when he asked, a small shrug following the question. It took Y/n off guard, ‘perhaps he was hoping to talk more’ she thought, at first the only thing she could will herself to do was nod. But Choso didn’t accept that, furrowing his brows at her.
“Yes. I-I’m okay.” She stuttered out, she shifted at her hip to face him more, trying to convey more. A hesitant hand placed on his chest, “This is more than okay.” She affirmed, leaning against him, though awkwardly. Her head rested snugly against him, despite her body being twisted, Choso relaxed, his shoulders slumping down while his arms loosely wrap around her. Y/n turned herself back around, the strain getting to her back, and scooted a few inches forward while straightening her legs out. Choso followed her actions, fully extending his legs under the kotatsu, caging Y/n in. His chest was flush with her back, he rested his head on her shoulder, one arm still holding her; pulling her closer to him.
Y/n stilled at his touch, the warmth of his body wrapping around her like a comforting blanket; she felt secure with him. His large hand splayed over her stomach, slowly drifting up her body, over her ribs, delicately feeling all that was available to him. She shivered at each touch, she could feel his satisfied smirk against her skin, as well she could feel the way his eyes tracked his hand, plotting its course. His other hand found its way to her thigh, groping and messaging her firm muscle; dipping his head lower until his lips connected with the soft skin of her shoulder. She mewled at his minstrations, softly gasping at the gentle nips he gave her, going up her neck, stopping just under her ear. There- where he’d kissed earlier- he bit a little harder, sucking the reddened skin, just enough to leave a mark under her jaw. The action had a long waiting moan slip past her lips, Choso smiled against her skin, running his lips down her jaw. He’d stopped his roaming, the hand on her thigh tightened and loosened as he continued. Y/n had pulled her arms in, one resting beside her with her hand flat on the floor- literally grounding her- while the other sat on top of Choso’s. Her hand found his and rested atop it, the rough skin of his knuckles tickled her palm.
Choso stopped right at the shell of her ear, his lips sending those same electric shivers through her body. He slipped his hands down until both were on top of her thighs, he gave them a light squeeze before slipping them under, “Hold on.” He whispered to her in a devilish tone, purposefully giving her no time, swiftly lifting her up before closing his legs and setting her back down atop his lap. Her legs conveniently spread with her thighs resting on his. She was flushed from head to toe, her heart pounding like a jackhammer in her chest. Choso could feel the thundering against his own chest. His lips to her cheek, he placed a simple fast kiss there. He was going to say something, but was silenced by Y/n, she quickly turned her head to lock her lips with his. Exhausted with waiting any longer, she feverishly devoured his kiss; near begging him. Choso’s hands found her hips, holding her against him while they explored each others mouths. Y/n was holding his bulking forearms for stability, the rise and fall of their chests were in sync. Y/n’s whole body was pulsing with desire, heat running down her body to her core, already that ball of pleasure coiling around itself, already begging for release.
Choso used the rhythm of their breathing and began to grind Y/n down while also thrusting upwards. She couldn’t help to brake the kiss, the gasp that turned into a moan couldn’t be contained. Choso moved to her neck again the instant the kiss was broken, doing everything to rile her up. Everything for her to make those sweet sounds fall from her lips, to feel the clench of her muscles and the visible shivers that rocked her body. Choso nipped and sucked little marks up and down her neck, leaving a trail to her should and to the caller of her shirt; all the while one hand released her hip to slide up her torso, resting just under her bra. His long fingers lazily rubbing her ribs, begging for permission. Choso had his face buried against Y/n’s neck, but he could see Y/n’s pleasured expression, how she looked at him through half lidded eyes; her mouth hung open and lips already swollen. Holding her gaze he slipped his hand up firmly palming her breast, feeling her hardened nipple protrude through the thin fabric. He groaned loudly, muffling himself by biting down on the already sensitive flesh of her shoulder. The whining moan Y/n let out egged him on more, squeezing her hip harder while he more harshly groped her breast; he barley contained the quick buck of his hips. Y/n was leaning against him, her head thrown back against his shoulder, he’d given up holding her hips, opting to paw, pinch and message her breast, she was already a mess but he had her -literally- in the palm of his hand.
In their canoodling Choso had leaned back against the couch, the two of them barely under the kotatsu, Y/n had tangled a hand into his long locks, his hands roamed over her body in a feverish search. Y/n had pulled his head up to meet his lips, needing more. They smoothly changed who was in control of the kiss, but Y/n happily lost, feeling Choso selfishly explore her mouth. Y/n willingly, lavishly gave herself to him. At some point she’d planted her feet on the ground and re-initiated grinding down on him, each time he let a deep moan out, only muffled by her own. Choso felt like he was an animal caged, his whole body ignited in passion. He separated from her, a hand solid against her chest, her eyes were dreamy, but she was holding his attention. He was flushed, the highs of his cheeks hilghted by his strip tattoo, his eyes were dark and filled with a carnal hunger.
He took the smallest moment to catch his breath, his eyes flicked to the front door then back to Y/n. “Is the door locked?” He asked- a reasonable question- but Y/n had to blink a few times to remember. She shock her head, unsure, everything after the three left became a quick blur to the current moment. Choso nodded. “Okay.” He said quickly. He slid Y/n from his lap, planting one more kiss to her swollen lips, before standing up and making his way to the front door. Y/n, though punch drunk, remembered what she wanted to do. As fast as she could she whipped her phone out, finding the first slow playlist and casting it on, making sure it was at a reasonably low volume; before standing up on wobbly legs. She tossed her phone on the couch and stood in front of the kotatsu, seconds later Choso was turned around and back in the living room.
He cocked a brow at her, sending her that flirtatious look, she fought the urge to shy away. “What’re’ ya doin’?” He asked, his words running together in that pleasure bound way. His ears perked up when the music, slow and chill, matching the moment, washed through him. Y/n was having trouble finding the right words, still reeling; instead she went to him, grabbed his hand and led him back to the couch and guided him into sitting down. He didn’t question or protest, in fact he leaned back against he couch, manspreading across the small seat. His eyes tracked her as she moved back in front of the kotatsu, she was timid, but her resolve didn’t weaver.
Y/n took a calming breath, slowly starting to sway with the music, Choso’s intense gape never stopped, it urged her on. Her whole energy changed as confidence seeped into her. Her eyes sharpened, sending that white hot rod of lust through Choso, he had to hold in another groan; something that was getting harder to do. Y/n sensually bent over the low table, stabilizing herself on straight arms, rolling her head to the side, her hair fell over her face vailing her lusting expression. Choso dropped his arms, one hand resting on his groin, palming his tightly bound erection. Y/n bent her elbows, dropping her head and shoulders to the low table, with he feet still planted, and ass presented in the air; she rolled her back flipping the positions of her arms, her head lulling over the side. In one swift but smooth motion she fanned her legs wide open and around until her butt and back were flush with the cushioned table. Choso’s eyes dragged over her body, resting at her face, she wasn’t done and he was excited for it.
Y/n sent her arms up until her hands were brushing his knees, slipping down the low table, the quilt catching her shirt hiking it up as she went; exactly what she wanted, until she was sat back down on the floor. She crossed her arms over her head and about ripped her shirt off over her head, standing back up in that same moment. With her back to Choso, Y/n hooked her thumbs under the waist band of her pants, making sure not to catch her underwear. She glanced over her shoulder to see Choso watching her like a hunter stalking prey, that ball in her core tightened again, the want for more sent her forward. With her legs straight she bent forward, her arms and upper body moving together, slipping her pants down her legs until they were around her ankles. From behind her Choso let out a guttural sound, like he was about to burst. Y/n stood back up slowly, looking behind her before she was fully up, she was surprised to see Choso had undid his pants and was stroking his hard cock through his boxers. Y/n’s face bloomed a deep red, despite everything she just did. Y/n smoothly sat back down in the center of the kotatsu, she swiveled around until she was facing Choso again. He was unabashedly watching her perform for him, waiting and watching, near edging himself. Y/n scooted herself forward to be in between his legs, he stopped his movements and retracted his hand from his boxers. His erection tenting out.
Y/n moved to be on her knees in front of him, running her hands up his thighs, stoping at his waist band. Choso didn’t take his eyes off her once, she held his gaze while she moved closer. His mouth was agape, his chest rose and fell in quick succession. Y/n stopped her teasing pace, she pulled he waist band of his boxers down just enough for his election to spring free, standing hard and wanting. She planted one hand on his hip, gripping the dip there, with her other hand she went to stroke him but stopped short. Choso’s eyes widened slightly, but shot open when he watched her lick up and down the palm of her hand, leaving trails of saliva running down her arm; he sucked in a breath at the sight. Y/n’s eyes flicked up to meet his, holding his gaze she wrapped her hand around his cock, her thumb over the hole and slit, she gave him a few painfully slow strokes until he let out a deep moan, throwing his head back against the couch.
Y/n took the moment where he wasn’t watching her like a hawk, to move all the way forward, her lips wet she popped the head of his cock into her mouth, rolling her tongue around. Choso let loose a slurry of moans and curses as she began to bob her head up and down, taking all of him into her mouth until her lip touched the base. She could only do this a few times before needing the aid of her lubricated hand. Choso lulled his head forward to watch Y/n enclose his cock with her mouth, the hot and wet feeling bringing him so close to loosing it. Her eyes were closed like she was in a happy dream, despite the lewd things she was enacting. He had to fist the couch cushion to stop himself from thrusting up into her mouth. He was getting close, too close, he tangled a hand into her hair, loosely grabbing her heard and slowing her into a stop, he lifted her head to him, her eyes drifted open. Her whole mouth, lips and chin were drenched in her own saliva and precum; it was an enchanting sight. Choso captured her lips with his, fully uncaring about the mess, reviling in all that’s led up to this moment in one hungry kiss. Y/n went to unclasp her bra but Choso stopped her.
“I wanna do that.” He said in a low domineering voice, she only nodded in response. Choso scooped her up off the floor and into his arms, ignoring their sate of undress, and carried her bridal style through the small apartment to her bed room.
Choso closed the door behind them with his foot before gently setting Y/n on her bed, the only light in the room was that of the moon, brightened by the fresh snow. The room was cast in a slight orange glow, the two could see each other but no real details. Choso stripped his cloths from his body, never braking eye contact with Y/n, once nude he was climbing onto the bed. Y/n watched as Choso sat in front of her on his knees, his weight bowing the bed. He gestured with his hand for Y/n to ‘come here’, she did, matching him but sitting on her knees right in front of him. Choso didn’t hide the satisfaction that brought him. He leaned forward to kiss his way from Y/n’s lips down to her chest, stopping in between her breasts. His nimble hands worked fast to remove her bar, quickly discarding it without thought. Choso didn’t hesitate groping her now naked breasts, pinching and teasing her already hard nipples, kissing and nipping until his mouth was fully around, biting and sucking the sensitive bud. Y/n was a mewling mess, she gripped Choso’s hair, scratched at his shoulders, anything to release the pressure that was building in her.
Choso stopped his feverish groping and guided Y/n to lie down, he nestled himself between her legs, he messaged up her thighs and hips to her lower back- what part he could touch- gingerly working a few knots out of her muscles. She relaxed quite a bit, her body sinking a little lower into the bed. Choso sat up on his knees with his hands on either side of Y/n’s head, he gave a few deep passion filled kisses before he stood back up, giving her a devious look, distracting her for a split second while he gripped Y/n’s panties and swiped them off in one fast move. Y/n gasped propping herself up on her elbows to gawk at the man before her. Choso placed a gentle hand to the flat of her chest, ushering her to lay back down.
“Ah ah Princess.” He said with a cocky grin, “You stay right there.” He commanded, but his tone and voice were light and close to joking, but she listened. Laying back down while Choso re-settled himself between her legs. He’d moved back some, so when he laid forward he would be hovering just about her wanting pussy. She shuddered, feeling his hot breath fan over her wet folds.
Choso again splayed a hand over Y/n’s stomach, wide and flat, holding her in place, in an oddly comforting way. He was half propped up on his other arm, shoved under him, but his hand was free. Y/n was already whimpering, whining for him to hurry up. He didn’t make her wait any longer; licking a long slow strip between her folds, stopping to circle around her clit. Her loud moans were quickly turning to screams of pleasure, she shot both her hands over her mouth, thrusting her head back against the pillow. Choso was undeterred, he slipped his hand down to gently pinch and pub her clit, he used his other hand to open her up, his eyes went dark at the sight of her. He selfishly plunged his tongue into her, thrusting in and out, happily soaking his face and the sheet in her slick juices. She was getting close, Choso cold feel her thighs getting tight, her pussy trying to clamp down, her removed his tongue, but gave her no pause before replacing it with his middle finger. The moan the escaped her was loud enough that her hands did little to muffle it. He pumped his finger in and out of her till his hand was dripping before adding a second, still unrelentingly rubbing her clit, her began to lick up and down from her hole to her clit, send wave after wave of pleasure up through her. She was ready to snap, that ball of pressure able to take no more, he didn’t stop, not until her spongy walls clamped down around his fingers, his hand and face were dripping in her cum, he removed his hands, but licked her clean, leading her through her climax. Y/n’s hands fell to the sides of her head, tears of pleasure pricked her eyes and her mouth hung open. Choso propped himself up she he could see all of her, she was gorgeous.
He crawled up her, placing his hands back on either side of her head, he’d wiped his face at some point, Y/n wasn’t sure when, and laid feather soft kisses against her hot skin. “You doin’ good Princess?” He asked lazily. Y/n could only mumble a response in the affirmative. Choso chuckled at that. Y/n wrapped her arms around his neck and brought him in for another kiss. When he pulled away he grabbed her legs, hoisting one up over his shoulder and wrapping the other around his waist. He gave her one last look of asking, she nodded eagerly, wanting him to be close to her again. Choso gripped her hips a littler harder, lined the head of his cock up with her sensitive weeping entrance, slowly he pushed in until his head was inside, having to stop or else he’d lose control, her tight wet wall had him sucking a breath in through his teeth. Y/n gasped at the penetration, the stretch and the unmistakable sensation had her arching her back.
“Please Cho!” She begged. Hearing his name spill from her lips in such away had him snapping his hips forward, thrusting himself completely into her, one more and he bottomed out. He moaned, deep like a growl. She let out a near shriek, pawing at him, only able to grip onto his shoulders, digging into his skin, leaving crescent moon shaped cuts there. He paused while their hips were flush together, leaning down so Y/n could wrap her arms around him again. He had his head against her shoulder to center himself. Y/n kissed up his neck, stopping at the nape to bite hard into his skin, leaving her own mark, he gasped, thrusting forward, she moaned against him. He took that as a sign and began to slowly thrust in and out, nearly moving but enough to have Y/n folding around him, her wet walls closing around him, wanting him. Choso pulled back just enough that he could pull out till only his head was inside, before slamming back into her, getting her to moan and shriek in delightful pleasure. He did this a few times in between his slow lingered pace, tormenting Y/n. “Cho.” She pleaded again.
He couldn’t take it anymore either, he sat up again, hoisting he other leg over his shoulder, hitting a new set of spots, Y/n had never felt before. Choso thrusts into her until his hips her flush with her ass, grabbing her hips tightly, hard enough that she will have bruises, he began to thrust in and out at a blistering speed, she couldn’t and I didn’t stop the sounds that were leaving her. A string of vulgar things left her, his name sweet on her tongue, each thing egging him on, urging him to finish. He was so close, pounding their hips together, surely being too loud, but neither cared. Chose was turning into a mess himself, her name falling from him over and over, said like a life saving prayer. Y/n couldn’t take it, that hot ball in her core ready to brake again. Choso’s speed quickened, his hips ramming against her, her goofy walls began to spasms, her orgasm starting; Choso’s movements started to faulter, becoming ragged and out of time.
“Choso!” Y/n screamed out, her climax hitting her, his own building climax bust at the sound of his name coming from Y/n. He hursts into her a few good times, white hot pleasure running through his veins as his cock painted the inside of Y/n’s over sensitive pussy. Her name spilling from him as he collapsed down, catching himself on his arms at the last second. Y/n hug him close, leading him to lie down with her. He took a moment to collect himself before pulling out of Y/n. She let out a small gasp, her lips forming an even smaller pout at the loss. Choso didn’t immediately lay down; instead he moved to the bathroom grabbed a towel and helped Y/n clean up. She was going to say something but he was gone again, discarding the now dirty towel, he also shut the still playing music off and turned all the lights off before climbing back into bed with Y/n.
Y/n welcomed him with open arms, hugging him the instant he was in bed. It made a warm smile appear accompanied by a soft chuckle. Choso pulled the blankets over the two of them, laying on his back he pull Y/n into his arms so her head would rest on his chest. The two were fast drifting off.
“Cho” Y/n’s voice was small and quiet, she thought maybe he wouldn’t hear her.
“Princesses?” He asked, his voice also quiet. Y/n smile at the name, he did to, knowing she liked it.
“Are we…” She wasn’t sure how or even exactly what she was trying to ask, her brain was fogged by exhaustion and sex.
Choso hugged her a little tighter, placing a soft kiss to her head, “We are.” He said simply. Y/n smiled again. The two took no time drifting off to sleep in each others arms. Forgetting the world around them, totally and unabashedly overjoyed to be where they are.
