The fandom's bias and tendency to wanting to agressively associate EVERYTHING with Percy and getting upset when a character isn't associated with him really taints their view on actually significant relationships, and it ruins Percy's canon character tbh.
I came across a video edit appreciating Jason and Nico's friendship, and the comments were just filled with people raging on how Percy should've been included instead of Jason because he was "much closer friends" to Nico than Jason was. It's appalling how much ppl can turn to a blind eye when it comes to Jason.
People hate Jason SO much in this fandom that they literally refuse to admit that Nico canonically considered Jason as his first ever friend, not Percy (this is literally said in Tower of Nero, by the way)
You guys are seriously so hell bent on wanting to take away every little thing jason had that makes his character meaningful, simple to give it to percy when it isn't even necessary. Doesn't percy have enough good characterization already? Why deprive Nico of a genuinely good friendship? Jason spent time and effort to make Nico comfortable and succeeded in earning nicos trust. He taught nico to never push people away and not to be ashamed of being himself, Isn't that beautiful? Why do people get salty abt that so much? Because of course, it's about appreciating Jason for once, and not Percy, isn't that it?
My perspective on Percy and Nico is that, they were never really "close" to begin with and never ended up being close either, and that's okay. Percy tried his very best to be a brother to Nico, but they somehow always had tension with eachother because of Nico's internal turmoil of idolizing and crushing on Percy whilst simultaneously associating him with Bianca.
Sure, they talked it out a little in the end, but I'd like to think that some tension would always be there, because they started off at the wrong foot, and there was too much bitterness and resentment to come in their dynamic. And them never actually being close "brothers" makes their dynamic very significant and authentic. In the end, Nico acknowledged that Percy was a good person, and I like to think that's the farthest they've ever gone in their dynamic. They both are on amicable terms but the awkwardness still being there is very realistic, the weight of Bianca's death would always be associated with Percy to Nico, and it's neither of their faults. That adds SO much to their angsty dynamic, why get so upset about it when it's such an integral, and meaningful part of the story? Nico and Percy not being close friends shows how complex character relationships can be.
Percy doesn't have to be close with everyone just because he's the main character, it really deprives him of actually meaningful connections. The fandom forcing him to be buddy buddy with everyone simply because they HAVE to associate Percy with anyone and everyone, and getting angry that Jason is closer to Nico than Percy is, is just really weird.
Why do people feel SO threatened about Jason all the time that they have to get all defensive and suppress his connections by dragging Percy into videos that doesn't even have to do anything with him? I swear y'all are creating this whole Jason/Percy rivalry thing because you cannot bear to see someone rival Percy, and you want Percy to be the only powerful/good person in the books.
Let other characters befriend eachother without trying to insert Percy in there all the time.
Percy and Nico would never be like Reyna and Nico, or Jason and Nico, and that's completely fine. I like them better that way. You can't be best friends with everyone. That's just how life works.

The children of the big three are painfully beautiful.
beautiful as poisonous flowers.
One touch and you're dead.
they are though—they’re venomous creatures, poisonous flowers, forces of nature. the world itself runs through their veins. gods treat them with caution; mere humans don’t stand a chance.
Percy is a riptide. he’s the calm of ocean, moments before its rage. he’s the sun on the beach, the warmth of the sand, the calming, constant crash of the waves. he’s the smell of the salt in the air and the cold of the water against your skin. you can swim, you think, you’ll be fine. he smiles and it’s more beautiful than a sunset over the shore. and then the pull starts. in seconds, you’re farther from shore than you’ve ever been before. trying to swim back tires you out and sees you no closer than before. in fact, now you’re even farther out. the water pulls you under, still as beautiful as it was from shore, and you can’t find your way back up.
Thalia is the eye of the hurricane. the deceitful calm at the end of the storm, luring you out from your shelter. there is nothing more peaceful, more still and tranquil. the sun peeks out from the clouds that surround you from all sides. the wind and rain have died. there’s a rainbow in the sky. the storm is over—except it isn’t. one moment is all it takes, and the hurricane is back with a vengeance. the wind tears at you, rain lashes at you, thunder shakes your bones in place. you walked too far from your shelter, and you might not be able to make your way back.
Jason is hail. the rain is beautiful. it’s a breathtaking storm: impressive thunder, streaking lightning, howling wind. the house shakes around you and the lights go out. the concussive sound of the rain on the roof is soothing, until it isn’t. until it isn’t rain, and the roof isn’t whole. now, the storm is invading your home. the hail is punching its way into everything it can reach. car alarms spring to life outside; those who were watching in awe are now fleeing in terror. it only takes one hit, after all—one lucky piece of hail—to end a life.
Nico is an earthquake. the planet is ancient; the ground was old before you were here and it will be old after you go. it’s sturdy, and supportive, provides life and food and shelter. long ago, when the ground danced, when it shook itself free and sent cities tumbling to the ground, they called it the gods’ wrath. now, it’s called plate tectonics. no matter what it is, no matter why it happens, it is lethal and dangerous and uncaring of those it affects. nowhere is safe when the world turns on you, and if it decides you and your shelter should fall, you will.
Hazel is a sinkhole. the appearance of stability, of rock-solid ground and firm foundations. nothing is wrong, will ever be wrong, she’s the rock that holds everyone up. and then that rock is gone, and you’re falling, down, down, down—your home collapsing around you, your belongings claimed by the morbidly hungry earth. there’s a light at the end of the tunnel, but is it sunlight, far, far above you? or is it magma, far far below?

Take My Jacket (And My Heart)
Nico di Angelo x Male Half-Blood Reader
Prompt - "Take mine"
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You and Nico stood at the stern of the Argo II.
Both of you along with Hazel volunteered to take night watch and it was a little boring. Though monsters attacked almost every night they decided not to attack this night. It was weird and calming. The sea looked majestic. The waves slowly went up and down though you were sure that Hazel didn’t appreciate that.
You also felt calm standing next to Nico. You were around the same age as him, only a few months older and you were friends with him when he first went to Camp Half-Blood. That’s why you were so scared when you heard he was captured and when Piper, Jason, and Percy had found him, half dead.
You had stuck close to him when he came back and Nico didn’t seem to mind. Well he never said he hated it so you took that as him being fine with it.
You cared about Nico, more than any friend should.
But you could tell anyone that. A war was about to happen. You had to focus on that. But you still liked nights like these. That’s why you volunteered to take the night watch. You knew that Nico almost always volunteered so you did so you could have some time together.
Though most people felt put off by Nico’s persistence, you liked it. It felt like home to you. You had also arrived at Camp Half-Blood a few months before Nico so you were feeling a bit homesick. But then you started talking to Nico and he helped with that. Then he left, and came back, and left again.
It was an endless cycle but you were happy that you were with him again. You looked over from the sea to Nico and saw him looking at the sea.
But one thing you noticed was that he didn’t have his aviator jacket on. You hadn’t noticed it before, maybe it was because it was dark or that you were running on two hours of sleep and a little too much coffee but you didn’t know.
Now that you noticed it you realized how weird Nico looked without. You had seen Nico without it when he was younger but now he was never without it. It made him look weird, different. But he still looked good to you. But after you noticed that Nico was also shivering.
It was pretty cold.
You had on a jacket but you could still feel the cold. Your nose getting runny, your eyes getting wet, and your hands getting colder. You looked over at Hazel and saw that she was bringing her hands to her mouth, probably to warm them up.
But you and her had a jacket on and you hadn’t even really noticed the cold. If you didn’t focus on it you didn’t even know it was there. But you were sure that Nico could feel it. He was rubbing his hands up and down his arms and he was doing the same thing Hazel was doing.
You knew Nico ran cold.
He always seemed to feel like a block of ice. You had grabbed his arm before and it felt like you had stuck your hand into water from the antarctica. But guess even the Ghost King got cold. You felt back for Nico and started to unzip your jacket. You took it off, almost immediately feeling colder but you didn’t mind.
You held it in one hand and held it closer to Nico. Tapping Nico on the shoulder to get his attention. “Here”, you said, punching the jacket closer to Nico.
“Take mine”.
You don’t why you said that. It didn’t really sound right but you said it. Nico looked at you before shaking his head. “I don’t need it”, you rolled your eyes.
Nico and his pride.
He really needed to accept help. You might need to talk to him about that. You walked closer to Nico and grabbed his arms. “I’m fine. Plus it’s morning in a few hours. I can go without a jacket for a few hours”, you spoke while putting your jacket on him.
Nico didn't say anything, just tensed when you touched him. Which kinda shocked you, Nico didn’t like it when people touched him, Leo had learned that the hard way.
Once you were done you turned Nico around and zipped up the jacket. You were slightly taller and bigger then Nico so it was big on him but it was cute. “You look cute in my jacket”, you said with a smile before turning to look back at the sea.
Not noticing the blush on Nico’s face.

Hello! Can I have Percy, Nico and Jason reactions to their ex-lover saving them from impending death at the hands of the cruel monster and catching feeling again for them, when they casually bridal carry them to the Camp? Let’s just say Reader is hella strong and protective person, doesn’t matter their godly lineage. Love complicated relationships, so that why I’m asking!
Ex-Reader Saves the Boys
((Thank you for the request! Love me some angst and fluff so I hope you enjoy!))
Percy Jackson
-This was it, this is how he died. Hanging off a cliff face with no energy to use his powers or even pull himself up.
-He could hear a cyclops laughing loudly as he stomped closer to the edge. Great, after all his work of killing at least hundreds of monsters in this battle and he’d die to a cyclops.
-He debated letting go of the ledge right there. Maybe then his death wouldn’t be to a cyclops.. He… He wouldn’t be able to rest in peace knowing that his brother Tyson, who would never hurt a fly be judged for just being a cyclops. Not again.
-So he does. He lets go. Even though he was falling to his death he felt at peace. But… Then your smile popped into his head. Why was he thinking of his ex now…? Why did his peace turn to regret…?
-He lets out a pained ‘umph’ as he hits something. Not the ground thankfully, but instead he was soaring sideways. There you were, a child of Ares carrying him in your arms on blackjack’s back. His exhaustion gets the best of him and he passes out into your arms.
-He was in a daze sense then, eyes fluttering open and closed in a haze, when they opened he saw you carrying him towards the gate of camp half blood. Even with the scars and the look that you gave him clearly saying ‘I’m killing you myself when you get up’ he couldn’t help but find you beautiful.
Jason Grace
-He was exhausted, staring down a Fury while returning from a quest. He had to go alone, that was the quest rules. But he had been under non-stop monster attacks for almost a week. He couldn’t use his lightning while this tired… Not to mention using it in a public place was just asking for trouble.
- He takes a breath spinning his sword as he gets ready to fight. Honestly, he wasn’t positive that he wasn’t hallucinating but either way it was better to be safe than sorry.
-Just as he was about to charge an arrow went flying by him, turning the Fury to dust before it could even react. Jason quickly turns to see who fired the arrow and relaxes when he sees you. Of course… You were a child of Athena, you'd know the path he’d take to get back to camp.
-He gives a weak smile, going to say something but it falls flat as he crumples to his knees passing out from the pure exhaustion.
-He feels your hands on his side and a faint calling of his name from your voice before he falls into slumber.
-When he wakes up he sees you carrying him bridal style back to camp. He blinks up at you sleepily as you huff and set him down, already at the gates of camp. You carried him this entire way? You were not only strong but terrifyingly smart.
-”Don’t make me worry next time.” You state simply and shove your way past him through the gates. You were ex’s… He broke up with you because he didn’t want you to get hurt… But… Then why was his heart pounding in his chest?
Nico Di Angelo
-He was exhausted, running on maybe two hours of sleep and a Mcdonald's sprite. All while staring down a minotaur.
-It was chaos all around the battlefield, he couldn’t ask anyone for help, not while everyone was fighting just to save their own life. But any skeleton he summoned just turned to ash under the strength of the minotaur.
-It puffs and kicks its leg, getting ready for a charge. He tries to move but he’s too slow and the bull catches his side, taking a small chunk of Nico’s side with him as he slams into a tree.
-He would have screamed in pain if he wasn’t pumping with adrenaline. As the bull is stuck to the tree Nico quickly lunges for his sword, but he falls short. You beat him to it, kicking the sword up from the ground and charging the bull.  Sliding between its legs you stab it right in the heart as it roars in pain.
-Nico ends up passing out watching as the beast turns to dust. His last thoughts were of how amazing you were.
-When he wakes you’re carrying him to camp, eyes closed in focus and slight beads of stress as you share the pain between you two. You were kind and amazing… You had carried him this entire way while sharing his pain…? Being this close to death made him realize why the two of you broke up… He’d always focus on the quest, whatever awful thing was happening to the world and never you. Never saw it as your possible last day together… His eyes close again and he finds himself wishing that he’d get another chance with you…

Reunion
Leo Valdez x Fem reader
This takes place after the events of the second great prophecy, Y/N was on the Argo II with the 7 and is a daughter of Apollo but really could be anyone. Y/N is mourning the loss of her best friend and crush Leo and when everyone gathers for the memorial of his death things change. Don’t judge me too hard its been a few years since I wrote anything and had to start my blog fresh. Not entirely following cannon and while calypso is mention she isn’t actually a part of the story.
It took 3 days of searching before Chiron decided they were never going to find Leo’s body, to declare him dead. It took 2 weeks for Frank and Hazel to go back to Camp Jupiter after Leo’s funeral, Jason followed them a few days later promising he’d iris message Piper everyday. After a month Annabeth and Percy needed to go back to school, it turns out going on a quest really messed up a demigod's grades and makes getting into New Rome university way harder. A week after Percy and Annabeth left camp, Piper went out to visit her dad and for the first time since the quest began, Y/n found herself completely alone.
At first she struggled to find a way to spend her days. Unlike her siblings she lacked any all all skills in archery and Y/ns musical abilities left much to be desired. It was winter at camp so there wasn’t as much going on, most days she spent alone. The snow covered camp was beautiful, quieter than normal it seemed, except for the occasional bit of laughter from the other year round campers. She tried to iris message the others occasionally, shed promised Piper that she would call everyday, but it was never enough. She spent time with will, practicing in the infirmary and getting to know Nico since they were basically joint at the hip these days. It was good to see them happy, but it made her feel more alone. Sure her and Leo were never together, but he was her world, her partner in crime. She never got to tell him she loved him.
Over time though, it became easier. It turns out crushes feel less strong when the one you like is gone, and while Y/n may suck at archery and music it turns out she had a real knack for pegasus training. Plus with all the time in the world to practice she was pretty good with a sword too. Eventually she spent less time moping and being lonely and more time focused on build relationships with her sibilings, especially Will. The two of them would talk for hours on and end and his southern accent, while not quiet like Leo’s was comforting on the night where she had nightmares that kept her up. By default she became close with Nico too, sure they’d spoken on occasion before the quest and became a bit closer while trapped together on a ship for a few weeks, but this was new. He was quiet and didn’t ask too may questions, but he understood her grief better than anybody else.
Unbeknownst to Y/N, Nico knew she wasn’t he only one still grieving Leo. He’d spoken to Percy and Hazel a few times and heard through the grape vine how Frank, Annabeth, Jason, and Piper were doing. He could see the sadness that lingered in their eyes, the lack of sleep was obvious, and he knew he had to do something. So it took it upon himself to plan a memorial for Leo.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
6 months after Leo’s death, everyone came back for the memorial. It was weird, awkward almost to all be together again. On one hand they all knew each other like the back of their hand, but at the same time things had changed, they weren’t in any real danger for once and its almost like they didn’t know how to interact without a monster lurking or the impending end of the world to lead the conversation. Thank gods for Piper, she always knew how to get everyone talking.
"Remember the time Leo pranked Chiron by programming his wheelchair to go backwards only? Or that time he made that robot spider to scare the Athena cabin during capture the flag," she reminisced, a bittersweet smile on her face.
Percy chuckled, "I swore Annabeth was going to kill him for that, i swear she screamed so loud my mom could hear it."
”Rude,” Annabeth tried to be mad but even she couldn’t hide the smile on her face, “but yeah, I was planning my revenge”
She paused, everybody knew what she wanted to say, he died before she got the chance. The room was heavy for a moment before y/n changed the subject.
”You know what I was thinking about the other day, the time he 'accidentally' set the strawberry fields on fire while upgrading Festus's flame system.”
It worked like a charm. The room echoed with laughter and shared stories about the metal dragon and the boy who built it. Y/N listened as everyone talked, but her attention began to drift as she gazed into the sky, captivated by a mysterious glimmer.
Annabeth noticed her distraction, especially because the conversation had shifted a while ago, and asked, "Y/N, do you even know what we're talking about?"
"Festus," Y/N replied absentmindedly, her eyes still lingering on the shiny object.
Annabeth sighed, "No, we're discussing college plans, Y/N have you even heard a word we said?."
Before Annabeth could get into a lecture about how important having a plan is, Y/N's eyes widened.
"It's Festus," She whispered, so quiet almost anybody could miss it She rose quickly from her seat staring at the shiny object in the sky, her heart pounding with a mix of hope and disbelief. The group followed her gaze, their expressions changing from confusion to surprise. A metallic dragon, catching the sunlight, soared across the sky. The sight left them momentarily speechless. Then, realization dawned, and their faces mirrored Y/N's astonishment.
She ran out as fast as she could to the beach where the dragon was landing, when she saw him. Leo Valdez, presumed dead, had returned in the most Leo way possible. The daylight seemed to cast a spotlight on him as he stood there with a stupid smirk on his face. The poor boy had hardly a moment to prepare himself before Y/N jumped into his arms wrapping him a hug.
"What are you—how, I mean..." Y/N stuttered, her voice a mix of confusion and elation.
Leo, with his trademark smirk, simply said, "Surprise."
"Surprise? Surprise? What the heck, Leo!" Y/N's confusion turned into a whirlwind of emotions. "You died. I watched you die. We never found your body, but you were gone. I spoke at your funeral, and now you're back, and all you have to say is 'surprise'? Gods, what is—"
Leo's laughter cut through her words. "Hey, I had to make a grand entrance, right? Can't just show up without a little flair."
Y/N's frustration shifted to a mixture of relief and exasperation. "Flair? Leo, you had us all convinced you were gone. What happened? How are you here?"
Leo scratched his head, a habit that hadn't changed. "Long story short, Festus and I took a detour in the labyrinth. Ended up in Ogygia. You know, Calypso's island? Time flows differently there, and by the time we found a way out, well, time had moved a bit faster here."
"Ogygia? Calypso? Time travel?" Y/N's head spun with the unexpected twists.
"Yeah, yeah. I've got a lot to catch you up on," Leo grinned. "But one thing's for sure, I'm back, and we've got some serious catching up to do."
Y/N's initial shock transformed into a grin. "You have no idea how much we've missed you, Leo Valdez."
As they walked back to camp together, the reunion echoed with laughter, questions, and the comforting feeling of having a friend thought to be lost returned.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Later that night as the campfire crackled, casting a warm glow on the faces of the reunited demigods the Apollo cabin led the campers in a a few songs and Leo entertained the crowd with his tales of defying death. The atmosphere was one of joy and celebration, as the group sat together, reveling in the miraculous return of their comrade.
As the night unfolded, the campfire stories wove a tapestry of memories, both old and new. Y/N, caught up in the camaraderie, joined in the laughter and shared anecdotes. However, amidst the festivities, a moment of quiet reflection struck her. As she looked at the boy in front of her smiling and laughing her heart suddenly felt like it was being pulled in a few directions. He was really back. Maybe it was the days excitement or too much smoke inhalation or a combination of the two, but Y/N couldn’t breathe.
Pulling away from the group, Y/N wandered to the edge of the camp, her thoughts a whirlwind of emotions. The gravity of Leo's return, the mourning that had transpired, and the overwhelming joy of having him back weighed on her. It was all too much. Not to mention him being alive meant she’d have to deal with the whole unrequited crush thing. Not that she could even think about it right then, because Leo, sensing her retreat, followed her to the quiet corner.
"Hey, Y/N, everything okay?" he asked, concern etched on his face.
She hesitated, then sighed. "It's just... Leo, I thought you were gone. We all did. Losing you was... I can't put it into words. And now you're back, and it's so much to process."
Leo nodded understandingly, pulling her into a comforting hug. "I get it, Y/N. It's a lot. But I could never leave you behind, you know? We're in this together."
His words resonated with Y/N, and as Leo held her, she felt a mix of emotions pouring out. The weight of grief mingled with the joy of reunion overwhelmed her, and tears flowed freely. Leo just held her, it was almost enough to make her feel better on the spot. As the two stood apart the rest of their friends watched them whispering to one another.
”So when are the two of them going to admit they’re in love” Frank joked.
”Y/n talking about her feelings? It’s never going to happen” Jason laughed receiving a slap in the arm from Piper.
”I wouldn't say never,” Nico said , “she thought she missed her chance once she won’t let it happened again”
”Well lets just hope its soon, because I cannot hear about how ‘y/n does like me like that’ from Leo again when its so obvious to everyone else she does' Piper laughed looking at her two friends.
This is the first thing I’ve written in a long time but hopefully it’ll get better. Requests are open and please let me know if you want a sequel to this or anything else. Also lmk if you want to be tagged in the next one!

Helpless part 34
"How are you feeling."
"Terrified." Nico whispered, biting his nails. He really needed a smoke but he knew Will would never let him, for fucks sake he didn't even know.
"You're going to be okay, I know you're scared but everything's going to be okay. Just think of it as another three days in the infirmary."
"Mmhm.." Nico thought back to Reyna, he might as well tell him everything that's happening, he didn't want to but he'd rather Will find out through him and not anyone else. "Will... can I talk to you about something..."
"'Course Neeks, is everything alright."
"Well... umm- you know how I don't eat that much? Well... it's- fuck- it's because I can't. Every time I eat I throw it up and just either way... I can't let myself- eat. I- before that I would starve myself... because... I got so fucking used to it." Will pulled the shaking boy into a hug,
"Thank you for telling me, I'm going to help you, I promise."
"Th-Thanks."
"That's what I'm here for Angel boy."
"That's a new one."
"Thought I'd get creative." Will smirked,
"Of course you did Sunshine."
"Nico is anything in particular worrying you?"
"Not really... just- yeah." Nico didn't mention the fact that asking for help made him weak and he felt useless, he couldn't bring himself to tell Will that. The living sunshine grabbed his hand,
"I swear on the river of Styx you're going to be okay." He hesitated before leaning down and kissing him on the forehead, Nico blushed, staring into Will's bright blue eyes.
"Will... last night.. who found out?"
"Jason and Percy, they were going to force you to watch Mean Girls-"
"-Oh I love Mean Girls."
"I never thought I would hear you say that; then when you didn't say anything they got worried."
"Shit... wait... did they tell you about the...?"
"Yeah..." Nico flinched back, covering his face with his hands.
"It's okay, I know they're easy to get lost in."
"They help to not feel the pain..."
"I'm going to help you find a healthy way to cope, I know your life's been hard, believe me, drugs won't make it easier." Oh such a hypocrite, Will thought to himself, relling Nico that drugs won't help when he'd probably smoked more than the rest of camp combined. There's a difference, Nico's worth saving, he's actually fought, him on the other hand, had fought so little times he could count it on one hand. He didn't say anything to him, right now the last thing that he needed was finding out about this shit, maybe if they ever got together he would tell him eventually but right now it wasn't important. Will hoped that would be possible, dating Nico, but he knew that after he realised he was useless he wouldn't give a shit. But he was the one that kissed me... He thought to himself then promptly told that thought to go and fuck itself.
"It's too much."
"One step at a time Nico, you can have as much time as you need. Rome wasn't built in a day."
"I'm not worth it, I have more problems than wor-" Will cut him off with a kiss, at first he was shocked but he didn't back away from him. Will pulled the shaking boy closer to him as his fingers threaded through his blonde hair, he was cold. Nico wrapped his arms around his neck, a glowing brightness shone off his tan skin. He was strong but still gentle as he cupped the smaller boy's face with his hands until they broke appart, both gasping for air.
"Nico di Angelo you are worth everything, never say that again."

My interpretation of how the seven would react if Nico died in the jar
Hazel is extremely upset and angry with the rest of the seven for putting off saving him for so long. She never lets everyone forget that they killed her brother her only family and that Nico’s blood is all over their hands. She is the only one truly grieving.
Frank doesn’t want Hazel to mad at him and he’s worried about her and understands why she’s upset and tries to comfort her. Of course he’s going to get her for her. That being said. He doesn’t really care about Nico. Frank never really knew the guy. He’s not upset that Nico’s died. He’s upset that Hazels upset.
Percy feels guilty. He thinks about Nico and Bianca a lot. He thinks a lot about how Nico used to be when he was younger. He wonders about everything else that Nico had been through but didn’t or couldn’t tell him about. he is so guilty. He’s knows it’s their fault Nico’s dead. He’s the only one that can actually see Nico’s blood on all of their hands. he does his best to grieve with Hazel and comfort her as much as he can. He tells Hazel all about what Nico and Bianca used to be like when they were younger.
Annabeth is more concerned about how Nico’s death affects Percy and Hazel. Other than that she kinda feels a little sad for a day or 2. She didn’t really know Nico. She doesn’t really care all that much tbh. She’s just worried about Percy and keeps an eye on him and comforts him. Similar to Frank.
Jason and Piper and Leo dont care. Jason only met Nico what maybe 2 times at camp Jupiter before he went missing? The way the giants were holding him hostage it was just a trap for the seven anyways. Nico was never the main agenda for the quest. Nico’s not special. He was just another pawned soldier like the rest of them. Leo and Piper had never met him never knew him. They have no reason to care. They are only mildly upset for Hazel and feels bad for her. But otherwise doesn’t care at all.
Coach Hedge would be upset even tho he never knew Nico. Hedge has a lot of respect and admiration for fallen and captured heros and soldiers. To him Nico sounds like a traumatized teenage demigod who had been through a lot of stuff that no kid should ever have to go through.
When the war is over and they’re at camp halfblood burning shrouds for the fallen. Hazel insists on having some kind of funeral service for Nico. They make a little altar on top of the shroud with Nico’s skull ring that he had given to Hazel the morning before she left for her Alaska quest and before Nico went to Tartarus. The last time she saw him alive. Nico knew he would die and wanted Hazel to have it. She tried to refuse but he insisted she have it.
Hazel also put some pomegranates there. And Frank managed to scrounge up a few random mythomagic cards. And Percy puts the tiny statue of Hades that he had kept all these years. Just in case he ever got another chance to give it back to Nico.
Hazel says a few words about him. How brave and humble he was. How he was always helping someone. How kind and sweet and funny and sarcastic he was.
Percy’s turn to say something. He had been numbly starring at the ground with his arm around Hazels shoulders while she cried. At first he didn’t know what to say. But then the words came out. that he’s sorry and that Nico deserved better than everything that happened to him. That he deserved a better life than the gods or either camps could have given him. That he hops Nico finds that better life in Elysium or his father’s palace. And that’s he’s sorry. For everything. For not being there. For not keeping a closer eye on him. For not looking out for him enough like he promised Bianca he would. Then again Nico didn’t make it easy to look out for him. But still. Percy still felt guilty. Probably will for the rest of his life.
Hedge stands next to Percy and Hazel and takes off his baseball cap and holds it to his chest as a sign of respect. He stands in silence and listen intently to what Hazel and Percy have to say about the boy. He was a hero. He was a kid that deserved better.
Annabeth and Frank stand behind them in silence simply because they don’t have anything to say they didn’t know him. They’re only here to support Percy and Hazel.
Jason and Piper don’t bother showing up. They didn’t know the guy. They decided to go to Leo’s shroud an hour early before his service started.
Reyna barely knew him and had no reason to attend. (How did she get the statue to camp without Nico? I don’t know man. This is simply about how the seven would feel if he died)
The End.

Confession: Jasico
“There’s this guy…i think you might know him.” Nico starts. “I think…i think I like him. You know, more than just a friend”
Jason’s chest tightens. He’d feared this would happen. He’d waited too long to make a move and now Nico just saw him as a friend. And he’d fallen for someone else. The way Nico looks away blushing as he’s thinking about him. there’s no doubt about in Jason’s mind…Nico is thinking of him.Will Solace. The son of Apollo he’s started hanging out with more and more since the end of the war with the giants.
“Y-yeah?. I think I know who you’re talking about.” Jason says, trying to bury the defeat in his voice. Just because Nico had starting liking someone else didn’t mean that he wasnt going to be supportive. He’s still Nico’s friend after all. He’ll deal with his own feelings for Nico separately and he’s not going to make them Nico’s problem.
Besides, Nico deserves to be with who he wants to be with. To be honest, Nico deserves the world.
“Do you?” Nico says. He looks a little surprised.
“I’m not blind. I can tell”
“Really?” Nico looks increasingly flustered.
“No need to be nervous, it’s not like your were being obvious or any thing”
“No?”
“Yeah and you have no reason to be anxious Neeks, I’m pretty sure Will likes you back. I mean he’d be crazy not to you’re amazing. “
Nico gives him a look. Jason doesn’t quite know that the expression is. It was no longer anxiety through. Incredulity perhaps? Nico was so
Unfair to himself. Why can’t he believe how great he is?
“I think…I’m gonna tell him how I feel then.” Nico says, face serious.
“Yeah you should” Jason says. His heart tight again. Using all of his strength not to add the word. “Not”
At the ends
Nico scoots closer to him. His lips curl into a smile. “Yeah I’ll just…go up to him.”
Jason nods
“Look him in those gorgeous blue eyes”
Jason is tempted to retort. To say they’re not that gorgeous. Certainly not as Gorgeous as Nico’s own. But it’s neither the time nor the place to say that so he nods again.
“Card my hand through his soft blonde hair…” Nico continues and runs his hand along the side of Jason face ending with his fingers on the nape of Jason’s neck.
“Y-yeah” Jason says, blushing furiously. “He’ll definitely like that.”
I like it a lot he doesn’t add out loud.
“And then…I’ll say. ‘I like you, you’re so hot I can’t even comprehend it and I want to be your boyfriend”
Jason’s breath catches.
“What do you think?” Nico says
“Very direct, he’ll appreciate that”
“Direct you say” Nico says, lips curling into a smirk “ok then.”
Jason nods “your sincerity is one of the most attractive things about you…it’s definitely one of the things I-“ Jason stops himself. Though if he hadn’t ,Nico’s actions would have. Nico looks directly into his eyes. Those black Irises glinting as they hold Jason’s gaze, as if trying to signal something into his mind.
Nico runs his hand through Jason’s hair again ending at the nape of the neck.
“I like you” Nico says softly but audibly. “You are so hot I can’t even comprehend it and I want to be your boyfriend, Jason Grace”
Jason’s eyes widen. Is Nico saying what he thinks- is he Joking? Or
“You said you wanted me to be direct…I thought I would add it in to clarify” Nico’s lips curl into a smirk again as he regards Jason fondly.
This couldn’t be happening. Jason’s heart pounds like thunder in his chest. He can’t believe it! He’s frozen in place.
Nico’s smirk fades and he retracts his hand. “Wait, unless…I thought that you- oh gods…” his eyes are wide m.
Jason can feel Nico’s confidence slingshot away. He sees the familiar pain of confessing before he was ready return to Nico’s face.
Oh gods no, his hesitation has done this.
“No!” Jason says “I mean yes! No, it’s not unless, it’s yes I mean-.”
Jason takes a deep breath. Be direct.
“I like you, you’re so hot I can’t even comprehend it…and…I wanna be your boyfriend too, Nico di Angelo…if you’ll have me” he says
Nico’s eyes brighten and it’s as if the confidence is slingshot back into him.
“I appreciate your directness. “ he smiles and holds Jason’s hand. “After all, your sincerity is one of the most attractive things about you.”
Nico says with a wink.
Jason’s heart flutters and he gives Nico’s hand a light squeeze. Yup.He thinks to himself. And this is why: Nico really does deserve the world.

Leo Valdez Study
I've always been annoyed with how people see Leo. He has a lot of really interesting traits, but he also has a lot of issues.
The seventh wheel thing
From day one, Leo is worried that he is a third, or “seventh” wheel. This starts with Piper and Jason’s relationship and continues till the last book. It’s meant to be a relatable worry that he “overcomes” by the end of his story, but I feel it is a manifestation of a much deeper problem. He lets other people’s opinions dictate his actions and his thoughts.  Everyone does this to an extent, but it is so deeply engrained into who Leo is that it’s an undertone to every decision he makes. Every other thought he has is about how he doesn’t have a girlfriend and how he feels so left out. This manifests in more ways than that though. When interacting with people he thinks are “lesser” than him, he is pretty cruel at times. The most obvious example is Frank. Their rivalry is framed as boys fighting over a girl, but it’s deeper than that. Leo thinks he’s better than Frank, or at least equal to him. He constantly makes mean comments about Frank’s worth and skills. This is put into better contrast when you look at how Leo interacts with the other boys. He’d never say half of the things he says to Frank to Percy or Jason, even if they were the ones dating Hazel.
2. Using the fact that he looks like hazels old lover to get closer to her.
Leo feels Hazel is in his league. Maybe because she is younger, or maybe because she has talked to him a few times. Either way, he has no issues preying on the fact that he looks like her past crush to become closer to Hazel. He instantly sees their relationship in a romantic light and doesn’t think twice about how things must feel for her. “Hazel was also Franks girlfriend, so Leo knew he should keep his distance. Still, her hair smelled good, and riding with her made his heart race almost against his will.”
“We could’ve made a sandcastle” “A lime castle” Their eyes locked for a second to long. Hazel looked away “You are so much like---” “Sammy” Leo guessed.”
It rubbed me the wrong way when he mentioned keeping his distance from Hazel because she was Frank’s girlfriend. Repeatedly I get the vibe that he doesn’t see women as people just because of how his lack of girlfriend clouds his world view. I really don’t think this was Riordan’s intention when he wrote Leo, but in real life, this would be a big red flag for me.
3. Who needs brothers anyway
Regarding Nico, Leo says “He hoped Hazel had forgiven him for not trusting her brother (hey, it had seemed like a reasonable suspicion to Leo)." It’s valid to be mistrusting of someone you don’t know; the problem is that even when Hazel said multiple times they could trust Nico, Leo still didn’t believe her. From his point of view in MoA, he fawns over Hazel and likes how she pays attention to him. But when it really comes down to it, he brushes aside her worries because he thinks rescuing Nico is too dangerous. Regardless of whether rescuing Nico was a good idea or not, it says a lot about how he truly feels about his friends and the girl he liked.
 When the seven had the meeting concerning Nico, they were rightfully worried about the dangers of rescuing him. But it didn’t come from a place of mistrusting Nico. Percy, despite his self admittedly rough past with Nico, looked past it and immediately said he would rescue him. One of his reasons were he “couldn’t stand seeing Hazel in pain.” Meanwhile Leo, the boy who has said he likes Hazel over and over again, couldn’t do the same. He brushed her concerns aside so quickly to share an opinion that really wasn’t needed. Everyone knew the mission would be dangerous, they knew it was a trap. But Leo still said to Hazel’s face that it would be better to not rescue Nico. Is it because Nico is a son of Hades? Because it was a trap? We honestly don’t even get a super clear reason why Leo was so against rescuing Nico. But no matter what his reasons were, sparing Hazel’s emotions didn’t even cross his mind. He sees her as a pretty girl rather than a teammate and someone who can make good decisions.
4. Calypso and Leo’s relationship
Leo didn’t like Calypso; he’s just obsessed with not being alone.
Cruel, but there’s a lot of proof why this could be the case. I believe in the theory that their relationship was Calypso’s curse kicking in one last time. In the beginning she was angry at Leo and said many times that she did not want Leo there. Although they were able to become friends by the end, I believe that if Calypso was not cursed, she would not have fallen in love with Leo. She’s thousands of years old and has directly said that she does not want to fall in love again. Leo is 16, and is a product of a completely different cultural era. People have argued that mentally she is young, but at the end of the day, I believe there must be a least some things in common between two people to be in a relationship.
An interesting point to consider is that Riordan might be already hinting that their relationship wont work out. In Trials in Apollo, Calypso expresses that she is uncomfortable in the real world and understandably feels out of place as a mortal teenager. Leo is also worried and he somewhat micromanages her needs in an attempt to make her feel better. I can’t see this leading to anything good. I will do a 180 if it turns out the author has been playing the long game and plans to address Leo’s issues as a part of his character development. But I think that Calypso was supposed to be Leo’s happy ending. His insecurities won’t go away just because of a girlfriend, and I wish this was addressed as a personal issue for Leo to solve instead of making him rely on outside forces (girl) to solve.
“Keep moving—that was his motto. Don’t dwell on things. Don’t stay in one place for too long. It was the only way to stay ahead of the sadness.“
At the end of the day, Leo has a traumatic past. He is a very interesting character, and there is a lot of depth to him that people don’t think about. From what I’ve seen, people tend to turn him into a 2d character and ignore his issues and the wrong things he has done. They, like Leo, just want him to be “bad boy supreme” and not look any deeper. My issue with him is the fact that none of his development resulted in anything meaningful. He ended the series getting what he wanted, but not what he needed.

Jason Grace but when he dies he remembers everything.
He watches his early life unfold, back when Thalia held him like he was something precious.
And his mother's eyes were kind and clear.
His mother who was haunted by monsters and told her torment would end if she gave up her son.
Jason watching his mother refuse every time.
But Beryl Grace was only human and she laid her son on the forest floor.
Believing truly that it was only for a moment. She doesn't know why but she's desperate.
The monsters get closer, more violent every day.
And this is the only way.
Jason watching his mother leave and keep turning back. And realises it wasn't a trick of a mad spirit
... She always intended on coming back.
Jason's who's life was built upon the shattered remains of his mother's broken promise, learning she meant it.
But they'd stolen him from her.
The life he'd always wanted, the family he always dreamed of, he had it once.
He screams as the wolves come for him, knowing he can't go back and change it.
Jason watching his days at the wolf house, knowing that his mother was searching for him.
That he was just a tool from day one. His mother followed the rules, she did everything she was supposed to and it was all for nothing.
Jason realising he followed the rules and now he's in what should be the best place ever.
And feeling nothing but loneliness in his nonexistent bones.
Because he will never get his family back.
His mother is dead, Thalia's immortal and moved on.
Camp Jupiter only cared for his parentage, Jason watches them take the feral child of Lupa and turn him into something he both knows and can't recognise.
They destroyed him.
And the first chance they got they turned on him.
His friends have all moved on.
Nico summons him at times to play mythomagic but he'll forget him too one day.
Everything he lived for didn't mean anything at all.
The greif and the bitterness corrupts Jason's soul.
And he becomes a mania like his mother before him.
He leaves his so called paradise and goes to destroy the home that was never his.
Nico is their to stop him.
He's able to calm and bring him back.
Jason just sobs, tells Nico that he's too far gone. He can't be saved because this rage will never end.
And he'd rather be destroyed completly than lose his memories again.
So Nico will have to kill him.
Nico looking at his best friend, looks at the boy who bought him back from the brink of darkness time and time again.
And he hugs him close.
Tells him that no matter how far Jason falls, he will always be there to bring him back.
And in his arms bawls the spirit of Jason Grace.
For all he's gained only to lose.
Nico just holds him, and apologises for not noticing sooner.
That his friend was putting on a facade while his soul was testing him in two.
Because no one ever thought a ghost could greive but than Nico's never met someone quite like Jason before.
And for once in his life Jason doesn't feel lonely anymore.

Egg Percy Jackson evidence masterpost
Considers traditional masculinity a burden,weird,confusing and gross(see her calling Ares ugly + Finding Apollo extremely annoying for acting like a stereotypical guy)but forces it onto herself because she's desperate to fit in and be accepted
Thinks women are better than men
Almost all her friends in the og series were girls(Annabeth,Silena,Clarisse,Thalia,Zoe,Bianca and Rachel vs just Grover,Nico and Beckendorf)
The first gay male character in the series stopped crushing on her because he realized she's not the ideal man he thought she was
Her relathionship with him is also very eldest sister/middle brother-esque
Her most common clothing item is hoodies(dysphoria)
Almost all the gods who treat her badly are men while almost all her positive relathionships with them are with the goddesses,including Artemis who is very famous for disliking men and protecting young girls
Persephone,who's most significant and solid myth is about men's violence against women(Hymn to Demeter),canonically likes her for being 'different' from other 'male' halfbloods
Generally relates to other female characters more than she does male ones
Best friends to lovers to exes turned even closer best friends is a very common experience for irl trans women with afab wlw and this is her canon dynamic with Rachel
Was jealous of Thalia because wanted to be like her,Thalia being a girl who defies and spits in the face of society's expectations of women but is still very proudly a girl and gets pissed when people try to erase that
Frequently describes women she finds pretty in an enchanted and awed way,which combined with all the prev points is most definitely gender envy
The Titan's Curse,the book where she enters teenagehood,had a huge focus on how she's 'not like other men' by the Hunters,who in the og myths were pretty much a metaphor for 'lesbians',if not outright interested in women and rejecting men as romantic options
Only ship them platonically but Annabeth never really shows attraction to characters she thinks are men other than her and Luke and she straight up said she never actually loved the latter romantically and always saw him as an older brother and was just confused because of how young she was so this makes both her being a lesbian and Percy being a trans woman click perfectly together
Specifically them being butch4femme since Annabeth is a tomboy who hates girlyness for herself and Percy as per stated before dosen't wanna be masc.Also,daughter of the king of Atlantis?'Her hair was curly,like a princess'?Gender envy strikes again!!
She acts like a Mom Friend very often,especially to younger characters,and i'm allowed to say that because i'm afab and a Mom Friend myself
Rick has commented on her sexuality but never her gender so it's not like it's been debunked
A joke one but Blackjack was called a mare in SOM yet a stallion from TTC onward so trans horse boy and his trans horse girl owner
Luke's relathionship with her heavily parallels his to Annabeth,Thalia and Silena so it's not a stretch to say this is unintentional subtext of her being a girl like them and him picking up on her vulnerability like he did them(Not in a 'chilvarious' way btw)
Jason and her remind me of many common main m/f romance tropes-The 'hotheaded girl x levelheaded boy' classic,tall girlfriend and slighter taller boyfriend,contrasting in a complimentary way powers,iirc it being obvious to everyone they instantly liked eachother(feel free to correct me and i'll remove this),Team Parents to the babies of the cast and 'Sweet Sixteen' joke since Percy met her first boyfriend at that age.Worth noting that this would make Percy Jason's best friend who's a girl and that he broke with Piper because their feelings for eachother were shallow and their dating dynamic was too by extent
Similarly,Percy and Annabeth fall under the 'dark haired female protagonist and her tomboy blonde best friend' trope that was so popular 2000s/2010s
More so motifs i think work well than evidence but sea related things are usually associated with femininity-Calling ships 'she',mermaids,pearl jewelry,the moon controlling the tides,the term 'Beach Bunny',etc
Her random reinforments of her 'manhood' are very inconsistent with the rest of her personality and we're given no indication Sally raised her on gender roles so it's less Percy being Percy and more Rick being a cis man
Rick also agreed with the headcanon she loves Led Zepplin so i googled to find out if they were lgbt and they weren't but what i learned was enough to let me know they're a hit with lgbt people for a reason
Again,just my own take,but i feel her being pastel and kidcore is more fitting than any other interests and style for her in addition to her being canonically punk and they're both in-character for her since she's got a positive opinion on girly girls and the second one is an excellent coping mechanism for constant childhood trauma
She's at most in-character,well-written and realistic when she just lets herself be instead of trying to be what everyone wants her to and to be brutally honest,this includes the fandom.She's a femme trans woman and i'm right

Perlex lore
Alr so first info on Lex themself:Their full name is Alexandria Xiá de los Santos and they're blasian(black-greek,chinese-dominican),transmasc genderfluid and bigender and xenogender(you can ask for specifics!!)with they/petal pronouns and have a lot of neurodivergent disorders but the most important one to them is autism.They're super femme,kind and bubbly but introverted all in a weirdgirl way and their arc is about learning self-worth though being loved by others and that outcasts like them are people too.They also started off very shy,they're pink and green-coded,their godly parent is Demeter and they're her strongest kid next to Persephone,their weapon is a transforming hairclip sword called Rhodon that was gifted to them by Mom and their special interests are dogs,video games,boba and makeup.Since they're my self-insert,they have the same poor social skills,sense of humor and merciless tendencies as Percy since us having those in common is what made him become my f/o.The Second Great Prophecy called for eight demigods and they were one of the ones who awnsered the call.Also!!Here they are in a picrew called Lemon Maker!
Tumblr media
Petal arrived at camp a month before Percy and never had friends until he came along.They met when he went to the strawberry fields to collect in the basket he'd been given and he jokingly asked for blue strawberries to which they complied with their powers by touching a handful and they eat a few together as they chatted,agreeing to train together the next day.They remain sparring partners for as long as they go to camp
Lex was the first person Percy trusted enough to let himself be completely vulnerable to and he's very glad he did because not once has petal made him regret it.They're eachother's number one confidants and Percy frequently wished they'd been on his quests with him
Their nicknames for eachother are 'Blue' and 'Bubbles'
Cause problems on purpose together
Their banter is very lighthearted and always had a flirty undertone to it
Lex is also best friends with Thalia,Nico and Rachel.Petal helped Percy guide Thalia to the infirmary so Chiron assigned petals and Clarisse(who is Thalia's love interest in this verse)to give her the camp tour and a few days later,Lex went to the Zeus Cabin to befriend her after seeing how almost nobody at camp treated her like a person instead of a paragon and they hung out for the afternoon in her room and the rest is history.They adopted Nico as their little brother when they found him crying about Bianca joining the Hunters and they repair their bond post Botl.Speaking of which,his dad Emil had to move them to El Barrio a month before Percy's high school orientation that also became Lex's and the duo were closer than ever,becoming a quartet with Nico and Rachel in the year gap to TLO.At school,Lex,Percy and Rachel are known as 'The Loser Trio' and they take the name for themselves
Even back in TLT,Percy and Lex were extremely physically and verbally affectionate with eachother and casually too,it being instinct by now
Lex taught Percy how to make boba and his favorite flavor is blueberry
Gaymer 4 Gaymer
They fell in love at the same time but Lex realized it first.It was a Goode High dance but the lead up was Rachel suggesting they go as eachother's dates and the preparations they did for it were a domino effect,with the finale being their slowdance.Less italiced 'Oh' and more internal disbelieving screaming.It was one of the best night's of their life and they called Rachel as soon as Percy walked them home to tell her and they had your typical girly reactions
Lex was very happy about being in love with Percy because of how well he treats them and how highly they think of him.Percy's own love ephiphany was started off by Jason having a huge crush on Lex and actively persuing them to their own obliviousness and he was a mix between pettily angry in a funny way and severely insecure that they liked him back because Jason is 'the perfect guy' and that a 'loser' like him never stood a chance against him,especially because he think of well as Lex as petal does him(This is a parallel to Lex's own feelings on Annabeth post-finding out her and Percy were a couple)
It didn't help that Jason helped out Lex and Annabeth,the co-leaders of the camp during Percy's dissaperance,a lot with an emphasis on the former to the point where the campers started calling them 'Camp Mom and Dad' and finding it out literally made him grit his teeth
He dosen't treat Jason badly over it though,they're still #bros
Hazel and Lex are the ones to fall to Tartarus in this verse so Hazel can get in touch with her Underworld side and Percy is the one to get the Hecate storyline to symbolize taking control of his own life at last.Him and Annabeth start fighting severely every day and she makes a cruel remark about Lex and he breaks up with her over it,realizing at the same time that they were only together because everything kept telling him to date her without asking him what he actually wanted.And at that moment,he'd realized he always wanted Lex but never thought he was allowed to
BOO is spent with them constantly flirting and being a very desctructive battle couple but never outright confessing until the last scene,where they go to their childhood hiding spot in the woods and lay down in the grass.Percy admits it first and Lex is shocked beyond words so he continues on to give a cheesy ass speech on why he's in love with them so Lex flops on top of him to cut him off and confesses back joyfully and so he finally kisses them,the first kiss he actually got to initiate.It was the best one in his life
Skateboarder x Rollarskater.Percy's skateboard is ocean blue with black cat designs and Lex's skates are ultra girly and kiddy
Cutesy femme gf gets their bi bf to do femme things with him and he becomes gnc asf
Known as the most unexpected power couple of the mythical world
Autistic4Autistic
Have gone as Jack x Sally,Ichihime,Flutterdash and Gwen and Miles for halloween(They don't ship the last one but they kin both characters at once so it was a must)
Lex has a raspy voice and Percy finds it so enchanting
They're Nico and Hazel's Team Parents
McDonalds dates!!!They even once went to japanese McDonalds thanks to a quest and Lex's life was forever changed by their pink /pos.Percy said he wishes somewhere sold it blue and they agreed with him
Lex is short and petite,Percy is tall and well-built and they absolutely love that about eachother
Sequel to the above,they wear eachother's clothes even though they don't fit for the bit
Their Pokemon/Lego Monkie Kid ship name would be Bluestrawberrieshipping and their Rwby ship name would be Cotton Candy Souls
Okay i can't help myself with this last one:Lex is a DC Comics fan and has a crush on Jason Todd because he's a Percy kinnie.It all comes full circle.Also they told Percy about it to compliment him and he got offended due to hating him-Hand over his heart and everything

Thalia watched as Jason laid his chin on Nico's knee. He wasn't sitting at the table with him, just kneeling beside him. The nymphs distributing food faltered when they approached the table, partly at the sound he made when he heard them coming, but partly because they seemed unsure of where to place his plate. Nico just reached for it with both hands. Quietly they passed them both to him. The plate sat relatively untouched while Nico ate from his.
The Hades table wasn't like the other tables. It was just a comfortable chair set up between the Demeter kids and Percy, a small folding table in front of him. From the Artemis table, Thalia observed with such focus intent her food was more picked and prodded at than eaten. The Demeter kids, the few of them that there were, kept glancing nervously at Jason. From where he sat at Nico's feet, he was closer to them than to Percy. Thalia had feeling Nico had designed it that way. Jason was untrusting of Percy. Thalia wondered if it had anything to do with beating up their uncle after he emerged from the Styx.
She also wondered how Jason didn't eat him alive for that when it happened. Perhaps he was already on the other side of the country, battling Krios with his Roman countrymen.
No one else had their tables set up yet, although a mass claiming of kids erupted in the last couple of days. Nico himself hadn't eaten with the rest of the campers until today though, when he brought the folding table and cozy chair with him. He'd dropped it down between the Demeter and Poseidon tables with little thought. It probably didn't really matter where he put it. Jason wouldn't be happy either way, but if he was seated alone, maybe then he wouldn't snap at anyone for accidentally brushing against Nico the wrong way.
After a few minutes of chewing on his burger, Nico tugged on Jason's hair. He tilted his head up at him. There was a sense of ease that rested upon him as soon as Nico caught his attention. Still tense along his edges, but content with the flow of Nico's words. Over the chatter of other people, his voice was muffled. But Thalia slid the air a little closer to her, and caught the end of his sentence.
Jason hummed quietly to himself. Then gently nuzzled Nico's outer thigh before pulling back and seating himself upright. Nico passed him the untouched plate and a goblet to drink from.
As Jason ate, Nico gently ran his fingers through his hair. Each passing touch rolled visibly down Jason's skin. His shoulders loosened. He leaned closer into Nico's side. But despite the comfort in his frame, he ate ravenously. Thalia pulled back on her senses, glancing down to her own plate. It was a mash of pulled apart bread and shredded beef at this point. A representation of her worries. Her thoughts.
Her all consuming focus these last few days.
Distantly she wondered if that was something they had to teach him. How to eat like a person. With your fingers to your mouth, the way she had taught him when he was young. Forks and spoons and cups. Use both hands so it didn't spill. Did they prioritize finger foods to make it easy on him? Did they teach him how to clean his fingers after? Or did he just lick them clean like Artemis's dogs did after they tore apart a mighty catch? When their paws were bloodied with torn flesh.
Nico had assured her he was fine. That he was just a little different, but overall okay. He was somewhere he was being cared for. That he saw nothing wrong with how he was, and would resist any change she, or anyone else, might try to inflict on him. He was taught humanity, the behaviours of people, as much as he was willing to learn it.
From the looks of it over the last few days, she understood what he meant. He walked like a person, sure, but at a prowl, as though as wolf seeking out prey. He'd sign, rough, like he didn't understand his own hands, and growled rather than spoke. He nuzzled Nico's cheeks, nipped at them, like an untrained pup. She could remember the way he fought - low to the ground, his teeth tearing, his hands clawing. She wondered if they ever tried to teach him how to use a weapon - or if like a dog, like an animal, he knew his body was his greatest weapon, used his powers to make himself bigger to enemies, used his hands to hold them down, and used his teeth to kill.
Nico caught her eyes on her sixth glance back at them. He smiled softly. His fingers still ran through Jason's hair, a soft slow pet. Steady like a heartbeat.
"You can't focus on what he could've been," he had said to her the day before.
Jason was napping beside him. Curled in close, protecting all of his vital bits. Nico had been petting his hair then too, slow, soft, steady. Down, up, and over. Down, up, and over. She had been standing close enough to talk, but not too close. Never too close, not with Jason always on alert. Even asleep, he’d notice if someone drifted too close. They’d be on the ground, pinned with the weight of all the air while Nico chided him loudly and pulled him back.
"He is what he is now. And he's content with it. It doesn't hurt him." She'd looked away from him, from his earnest eyes. He understood loss, understood what it was like to come back to a sibling that was different than you remembered, different and willing to stay that way. Wanting to stay that way, despite all your desperation to change it. "If you're always focusing on what could've been, you'll never experience what is happening now. He's alive, he's breathing. Isn't that enough?"
Now, her gaze flickered back down to Jason. He'd consumed his burger, inhaled the french fries that went with them, and poked around the broccoli left behind. He drank long from the goblet Nico passed down to him. And when his plate was collected, placed under Nico's, and the goblet was removed from his fingertips, he shifted up back to his knees. But he didn't place his head on Nico’s knee again.
Instead he stretched, up and back. His hands reached for the sky. His back curved in then out as he pushed his hands into the ground and flexed backwards. Like a cat. Like a dog. Then he crept, deliberate, under the table. His stomach laid across Nico's shoes. His eyes closed, ever so lightly, always on alert, but he relaxed in a slump at Nico's feet.
He was alive, he was breathing. He was content.
It was enough. It had to be.

ooh tell me about re-aliving!
Since someone already asked about it, I'll hand out another snippet! This was the original version of my long-fic, Grace of Gods, and it STARTED with Nico resurrecting Jason. Here's a bit from when Nico is looking for Jason in Elysium! (Sorry for how long it is! I really liked this bit LOL...)
It could be hours or mere minutes before Nico finally sees a face he recognizes. A young boy, probably about as old as Nico is now, with shiny black hair and a black eye-patch. The last time Nico saw him was at Camp Half-Blood, following Luke around like a lost puppy. What was his name? Erin? Erick? …Ethan! It was Ethan. Nico almost feels ashamed that he doesn’t remember, but in his defense his memories from before Tartarus are a little shaky at best.
He remembers Ethan being smart. Particular, but not unkind. Before the war, Luke wouldn’t surround himself with anyone he thought was unkind. Broken demigods, maybe, but not villains. Luke was a beacon for demigods who wanted a second chance. It should have been clear from the start who was behind it all, really.
Here, now, seeing Ethan sitting and chatting idly with the people around him, Nico has to choke back the guilt and sadness that crawls up his throat.
They were all so young.
Sure, at the time Nico was younger, and these demigods were technically responsible for him having to witness war as a child, but Nico also would have witnessed war as a child if he grew up in Italy like he was supposed to, so he chooses to call that one a draw. (Though, he probably wouldn’t have had to fight in Italy. …Right?)
Can this boy, who was clearly barely 17 when he died, really be blamed for being talked into raising Kronos? Can any of them be blamed for giving in to what they thought would be a better world for them? For their friends?
And for his efforts, Ethan and all of Luke’s demigod followers who died in battle gained Elysium. Now that is fair. Kronos rotting in Super Hell forever while the children he emotionally manipulated enjoy eternal happiness? A wise and just decision.
Funny, now that Nico thinks about it, Kronos was a really shitty villian. Exploiting angsty teenagers with mommy and daddy issues and then failing at exploiting said teenagers well enough that they don’t turn on you at the last second hardly counts as being a successful evil Titan. What a loser.
Nico makes his way over to the small cafe table Ethan is situated at, sipping at a bowl of soup cupped gently in his hands. Scars crisscross like a star-map across his knuckles and the backs of his hands. They’re small enough that Nico has to wonder what caused them. They certainly don’t look like battle wounds. More serrations than cuts.
When he’s finally close enough, the crowd parts and Nico sees a blip of messy blond hair seated across from Ethan. At first, he thinks it’s Luke. Until he remembers that Luke chose to be reborn. In fact, the closer he gets the more Nico realizes he couldn’t have been more wrong. The boy sitting across from Ethan is clearly younger than Luke was when he died, despite Nico not being able to see his face. He’s taller, more built compared to Luke’s lithe frame, and much paler. He also lifts a bowl to his face, and Nico catches a glimps of an SPQR tattoo on the inside of the demigod’s right wrist, which is strange because he’s wearing a Camp Half-Blood t-shirt, not a Camp Jupiter one. And the only person Nico knows who has both is…
“Jason!” Nico breaks out into a sprint. Gods, Elysium had really sucked him in for a second. All that reminiscing, he had almost forgotten why he was here. Or, rather, who he was here for.  The demigod sitting across from Ethan turns around slowly, mouth parted with polite shock, as Nico barrels through ghosts to get to them.
“Sorry-- excuse me! Pardon me, if I could just,” Nico’s voice is apologetic but he doesn’t take his eyes off of Jason. The Underworld can be tricky, and Nico knows better than most that just because Jason seems close by doesn’t mean he is, or that Elysium won’t rearrange itself the second Nico looks down. Instead, he choses to run straight through any ghosts in his path at full speed, vanquishing quite a few of them with stock apologies.
He’s panting by the time he makes it to the little table Jason and Ethan are sitting at, hands on his knees. Surely he’s not that out of shape, right? Must be a trick of Elysium. …Must be.
“Jason!” Nico says again, unable to keep the smile off of his face. “Alright, time to go, come-on. The longer I’m here the greater the chances that I get caught.” He gives a polite nod to Ethan, and focuses back on Jason.
Looking at Jason’s face more closely, something is off. His eyes are so blue they’re almost white, nearly blending in with the rest of his sclera. Ghosts here are fuzzy at the edges, enjoying the timelessness of eternal happiness, but even taking that into account Nico is sure Jason did not look like this before.
Hesitation flashes across Jason’s features. “...Nico?”
“Uh, yeah. It’s me-- What happened to your eyes?” Nico asks before he can stop himself. Practicing not filtering himself so much really has backfired quite a bit as of late. Nico isn’t so sure that was one of Will’s best ideas. But if it keeps Will from mumbling all day about “masking” and “Nico mentally draining himself” then he’ll take the consequences of his stupid thought to mouth connection.
“My eyes?” Jason asks, lifting a hand up to his face as if he had forgotten they were even there.
He doesn’t get a chance to expand on that thought, though, because Ethan leans across the table and speaks up. “Nico di Angelo? As in, the little Hades kid who ran away from camp?” He’s looking critically back and forth between Nico and Jason, as a child of Nemisis does.
Taken back for a second that Ethan recognized him, let alone can acknowledge him here, in Elysium, Nico dumbly responds with, “Uh, yeah?”
Maybe demigods can see through the Mist enough that they retain it in death? Half the ghosts Nico just ran through acted like he wasn’t even there… Or maybe it’s just because he’s talking with Ethan directly? Nico’s not really sure, but he doesn’t plan on staying long enough to find out.
“Interesting… What are you doing here?”
“What’s wrong with Jason’s eyes?” Nico asks, instead of answering Ethan’s question. Because he can’t. They both know he can’t. Admitting it out loud in the Underworld would be like using a megaphone to announce you are going to rob a bank outside of the nearest police station. Ethan seems to get it immediately, eye going wide and leaning back in his seat, setting his cup of soup down for the first time since Nico laid eyes on him.
Ethan raises his one visible eyebrow, a twinkle in his eye that makes Nico a little bit nervous. He opens his mouth to answer, a shrug halfway finished in his shoulders, but then his eyes glaze over and his posture drops.
“Who are you, again?” He says instead.
See, that’s the sort of greeting Nico was expecting. But now that it has come after their initial conversation, Nico can’t help but be a little nervous.
“Alright, time to go! Enjoy eternal life, or whatever,” Nico stutters out, grabbing Jason by the arm and pulling him up from his seat. “Oh--” Is the only protest Jason puts up, letting himself be pulled by the son of Hades through the streets of Elysium. “What’s going on?” He asks, as they round a corner. It’s the first hint of actual fear and concern Nico has heard. Which is strange, because he shouldn’t be able to feel fear and concern in Elysium.
