gotta say i love the sheer bitchiness of everybody in lockwood n co. im SERIOUS.
#home cooked hijinks#lockwood and co#NO REALLY. i feel like so many characters in fiction are antagonistic for a bit and then become friends n have no personality ever again.#and they ARE friends. but i appreciate more than i can say that lockwood & george & especially lucy are good people#who are not perfect angelic saints to each other all the time!!!#they are jealous and rude and grumpy and insensitive in ways that feel intimately relatable to me.#the small cruelties and slipups of existence r presented in a sympathetic light that feels so rare especially for kids lit.#like. the fact that lucy gets to be rude and reckless and irrationally jealous#and the narrative never treats it as a sin or a trauma response or some fatal flaw to be solved so we can uncover the nice girl underneath#is fucking HUGE to me.#i see this weird attitude a lot about morally grey women in fiction where people will obsess and blorbify them for their Hot Sexy Evil Deed#but the second theyre just a bit nasty in an ordinary everyday sense they will get destroyed 4 it.#like. be so for real for a second.#irl most of us r not gonna be committing huge betrayals or crimes or murders.#and i LIKE stories about redemption for those things! i do!#but i also think it’s so important to recognize that not every wrong action has a grand sacrifice we can make in return.#we are all gonna be cruel in small human ways sometimes!!! it’s ok!! we just gotta be kind in those ways too.

can't wait to see what characters brennan brings in last minute to save the bad kids
#sorry guys that fight looked brutal & i have no hope#especially not regarding battles where they are coming in from another battle#it honestly feels frustrating to watch imho because i know there aren't real stakes#the bad kids will win because their immensely powerful allies will swoop in when the chips are down & revive & recoup#like i love d20 but the fantasy high finales feel especially low stakes when i know brennan wants to give his friends a good dnding#maybe thats why i liked a crown of candy & neverafter so much#the stakes felt real#acoc if you died you were dead#neverafter if you died your memories got more & more fucked up & your lives were harder to keep track of#but with fantasy high it feels really called in#especially when brennan throws his players from one battle right into the final battle#like of COURSE theyre going to die & their allies will swoop in and save them#what else would you expect from throwing players at half health & half spell slots into a battle with a legion of fully healthy enemies#sorry i didnt mean for this to get so critical im just bery tired so im entering the hater zone#fantasy high i love you but the ending of your story is predictable and i dont really feel excited to watch it like i have b4#again possibly bc im tired#whose to say#fhjy spoilers

I’ve been thinking a lot about how Spider felt when he hit puberty and started growing facial hair, making him even more different to the Na’vi. I wonder if he hated it.
Also the inherent tenderness of a boy trusting someone else enough to help him shave for the first time… something about it makes my chest hurt. I really tried to capture it in Foreign Body but there’s so much more that I wish I’d left space for.

its so fuckin interesting to me that dimple is the only character to make mob so mad that he almost breaks. he's the only thing that knows how to make mob upset to the point that he gets overwhelmed by it and totally makes sense for his character bc hes an evil spirit yadda yadda. i think that dimple is like the only thing that's ever seen mob at his angriest, so it makes sense that he was terrified of him

Thinking abt Jessica Cruz and the ability to overcome great fear again
#everybody including canon: omg hal is the greatest lantern kyle is the best etc. etc.#HOWEVER OKAY. my vision.....#with like 15 to 20 years of our time i could expand on stuff and give her THE character arc okay#like im just saying yellow lantern jess arc could ACTUALLY be so good bc i would do it as a way to bring her back to the corps stronger and#better and more assured#in herself because like its not about NOT being afraid is about OVERCOMING it and bravery isnt the absence of fear but action in spite of it#et cetera et cetera#like okay i was kidding when i said i think shed be more powerful than kyle or hal#because theyre both totally overpowered in their own way ofc with hal's willpower abilities at like insane levels and kyle's command of the#emotional spectrum being what it is et cetera#BUT. jess has such an interesting relationship with the ring and BEING a green lantern and its like i want to go deeper with that. like down#to the center of the earth deeper. because i feel like shes a character that would have such a great connection to being a lantern and would#especially be the one to embody the 'overcome great fear' phrase at its core#also like THE RELATIONSHIP SHE HAS TO BEING A LANTERN-#all the lanterns have interesting relationships to the corps or what it means to be a gl but for me jess's is just SOOOOOO compelling and#rich and just. being a lantern saved her life. becoming a lantern GAVE her her life BACK. on multiple levels!!!#like quite literally bc of the fact that volthoom died in her body before she got the ring but like before she became a gl she wasn’t living#a life at least not socially. even when she was power ring i still doubt HIGHLY that she even really left the watchtower when not on mission#because like. they glossed over it but the power ring doesnt come off. she was always like that and even with her control over it always a#little primed to blow and i think that's something jess was aware of even if the rest of the jl wasn't as much#bc she like was always reminded of how precarious her power over the power ring could be like it said HORRIBLE things to her all the time!!!#like on power it would be just calling her names like verbal abuse#so even while she had control over the ring it was a tenuous sort of precarious state and she was very aware of that!!!#and i feel like thats what it often comes down to for jess: control. i think its a key part of her character that she desires that sort of#control over herself and her fear due to feeling a lack of it for so long. and THATS why i think that yellow lantern jess has SO much#potential bc it has a huge chance to explore her relationship with the concept of control and harken back to her origin and early days as a#hero.#gosh i went on a tangent here but yeah. Feel like one of the best ways you can convince someone that no, villains with compelling motives that have sad backstories are not terrible writing compared to straight up born evil villains who just want to kill everyone and be done with it, is to tell them that Warrior Cats writes born evil villains constantly while literally preaching “That’s how evil works, you can’t CHANGE, you’re either touched by demons at birth or you aren’t!” and it blows chunks
#brokenstar tigerstar hawkfrost darktail one eye etc etc would all be so much more interesting if they werent so one note#and just had ‘’born evil’’ slapped on as their explanation for being evil#‘’ew why are you woobifying tigerstar’’ because i think a villain who feels emotion besides ‘’evil’’ and ‘’angry’’ and actually does care#about his clanmates but is also a bigot that deserves to be beaten down is more interesting than canon#to get like real world political here… abusive people and bigots like. are not one note born evil demons#they have loved ones and reasons for turning out the way they did. and im not saying that to go ‘’so you need to give them grace!’’#im saying that because the line of thinking that every bad person is a super obvious mustache twirling villain with no soul#makes it so that people justify abuse and crimes from REAL people. like ‘’oh my friend says some racist things but he isnt BAD! he loves me!#would an abusive person be nice to his wife in public? of course not!’’#and its rhetoric like that that lets abuse and bigotry thrive. if you put the world in categories of born evil and born good#then you will dismiss all the ‘’good’’ people in your life who have done horrible things with ‘’but she donated to charity once’’#i mean. hell this LITERALLY happens in wc where the ‘’born good’’ characters are abusive and murderously xenophobic#where characters like clear sky and blackstar just get a sticker like ‘’oh you cant be TOO mad at them! theyre good at heart!’’#‘’ignore all the times they killed vulnerable people for the crime of being born somewhere they didnt like! they were nice to a kid once!’’#the message there is literally ‘’bad people cant REALLY be bad if theyre nice to people sometimes’’#like. im not even mad at clear sky being motivated by witnessing his loved ones starve to death for why hes such an abusive control freak#thats an interesting reason to become a villain especially since the change happened when he was put in a position of power#the problem is not him having a sad backstory. the problem is the erins think his sad backstory means he was never that bad#and anyone who’s upset at him can go eat shit and die cause he looked sad#like. i get this line of thinking often comes from writers doing this for abuse apologism and just wanting to see abusers be held accountabl#accountable#but how exactly does it help victims of abuse to portray abusers and bigots in a christian ‘’touched by the devil’’ light

#im going thru old flipnotes i used to watch years ago and ouggghhg so many good ones#is twenty one pilots still popular.... do people still remember the TRNDSTTER and marble soda meme.........#its like im unlocking some sort of primal part of my brain and everything is coming back to me. one of my biggest inspirations as a kid#i still remember thinking the final transmission lyrics were the coolest thing and watching =TopHat= Bee and Melissa over and over#theres a very specific feeling of longing and nostalgia looking back and watching these again years later#especially when there isnt anything genshin or mcyt and instead its either fnaf undertale eddsworld or another obscure#interest... and not even fnaf sister location its like fnaf 3 and 2. its THAT old. and a lot of oc MVs especially pokemon ocs and furries..#god but they were so creative u know. i still find it amazing ppl took this little lightbox animation on the fucking NINTENDO DS and#cranked it all the way to 11.. like if u look at the transitions and movement its so fucking fluid its insane..!! HOW DO YOU MAKE THE#CHARACTERS SPIN??? For my work secret santa I got a gift basket with wine, glasses, a candle, and a llama wine bottle holder thing, and when I thanked the girl who gave it to me she was so excited and told me how she looked so hard for a basket with the Llama because she knew I really liked them and it was just so sweet of her, but the thing is I've never actually had a strong opinion either way on llams. I have a couple scrub tops that have llamas on them (they're a popular pattern theme idk why) but I guess she got it in her head that they're my favorites (for the record my favorite animals are gorillas elephants and any kind of cat big or small)
And like first of all, I would now rather die than EVER let her know my ambivalence towards llamas, but also like...I think about that every time I see a llama now. I'm gonna go through the rest of my life remembering how this girl was so excited to get me something she thought I would like, and she also wrote a really nice card to go with it about me being a good friend, and not to sound like a fortune cookie but the thought does count and it was just so lovely and I'll never think of llamas the same way again bc I do love them now. Anyway love is transformative and also stored in the Llama wine bucket
#something something there are more people than you think that not only notice but care about you and see you as a friend#im pretty friendly with most of my coworkers but we dont necessarily hang out outside of work#and part of me still very much feels like im still the weird kid in the middle school cafeteria with no one to sit with but thats not true#most people are nice#and i do really try and help my newer coworkers especially bc i know how scary and stressful it is to be new#so i go out of my way to support them and let them know they can always ask me for help and i wont think theyre dumb for asking a question#and i guess it works! they do feel supported and like they can ask for help! i made a difference for someone!#and thats a good feeling even if ive got other crap going on or not going on rn#i did something good and made someone feel better and less scared while learning a difficult and stressful job#sort of that be the person you needed when you were younger kinda thing#and i think thats the 2024 goal to be the person i needed when i was younger and to be someone a young me would be impressed by#love and purpose are stored in the llama wine bucket

you know i mentioned last night that i realized only *after* i started rereading david copperfield that since i recently became an aunt, i was gonna see the story from a whole new angle and start relating more to betsey trotwood. i didn't even think about how at salem house i was gonna be poor mr. mell...
#i mean i didnt really think about mr. mell much because he's more of a minor character#he doesnt come back throughout david's life like steerforth or traddles or emily or agnes or#or or or all these other dozen major characters#in fact i only think of salem house as a minor part of the book. the shit we gotta get through to get to aunt betsey again#in a sense i cant wait to be done with it again#but oh my god reading about the rowdy schoolroom and how he's hardly managing to handle his stress#MEEEEE!!!!!! ME AN EDUCATOR#diana rereads david copperfield#literally just let me fucking play my flute badly in peace#you know i really have grown up a lot in the past 5 years bc all the adults used to just be caricatures to me#in the sense that all of dickens' characters are kind of caricatures. theyre exaggerated and silly#whether theyre supposed to be archetypal good or bad people.#because the way dickens uses hyperbole. sometimes it's just too true!#like the assholery of steerforth. how disingenuous but charming and persuasive he can be#that is SO true to how it feels to look up to older people as a young child. david copperfield's yielding to him is so realistic#david copperfield's own childish innocence throughout the early chapters seems comical but is emotionally true to how childhood feels.#these were the parts of the novel that resonated with me very deeply at 19. and they still do#but oh now. now i understand the position of the working adults. especially since i work w kids now how different it all feels.#and have worked w kids for several years too. but only about a year after reading dc. actually almost 2 years#im one of the bumbling incompetent adults. oh dear. oh lord.

I'm going to be honest, I think banning disposable vapes is going to send smoking rates through the roof. Especially among minors
#like a kid getting cigarettes is way more feesible than getting a resuable vape#a thing they have to ask their parents for#but these kids are addicted so theyre going to get it somewhere#i am also not really ok with that much power being in the governments hands#my anarchist brain does not like that shit one bit#just genuinely think about that industry and how many jobs have just been lost or endangered#plus i honestly dont think we should stop adults doing shit because its bad for kids#stricter laws sure. trying to reduce kids doing it as much as humanly possible. absolutely#but outright banning them makes me really uncomfortable#thats going to have a snowball of consequences and not all of them are good#especially because our regulations actually make vapes way way safer than us vapes#and now bang goes that shit. pop corn lung for everyone#i empathise with the environmental thing completely but like#lets be clear here there are absolutely other thing the government could be doing for that and is refusing#or fuck they could ban cigarettes which are provably way worse than vaping but dont#just like yeah were helping the environment but not like. stopping fossil fuel use or banning half the stuff thats actually polluting#vent
