This Etho right here looks either terrified or confused, and I think it's because

X is going to go absolutely crazy and he's scared that X is now in control [based on the "you dropped your crown king'' caption that might refer to Etho who isn't the attacker anymore but could also refer to Xisuma which I'll explain later]

3. he sees X without his helmet for the first time and his good 'ol computer brain is like '??????? Who tf is that"

"you dropped your crown king" could also refer to X as his helmet got destroyed in process [being the crown] and from what I know, we don't know the reason for why X wears helmet in this AU. The most popular headcannon for his armour and helmet is that he's a voidwalker and can't breathe in the overworld, we don't know if it's a thing in this AU but if it is that could mean that now he's powerless, he "dropped his crown" - he became weaker, powerless against his enemy. Also Doc looks kinda scared, or maybe just surprised after seeing X's face for probably first time. [if he's scared, then he's probably aware of Xisuma's condition when it comes to air]

This was supposed to have been released at the end of October but finally it is here.

I wasn't hugely enamoured with the last movie but I'm always here for my blorbos and maybe this one will address some of the issues I had with the first one.

And of course Xiaoge bursts in to help his husbands. God I love all three of them so very much.

Xiao Hua's family owes this dude, but he was too busy with his boyfriend so he told him to come and see Wu Xie instead. Xiao Hua isn't even here and I love him.

I am absolutely losing it over the idea that Xiao Hua apprently has a business running an escape room based on a tomb. He's such a nerd I adore him.

Pangzi is so outraged that Xiao Hua charged them to do the escape room, then billed them for destroying the probs AND they have to go off on an adventure to repay one of Xiao Hua's family debts. I'm sure Words will be had at Pangzi and Xiao Hua's next spa date.

I love that even though Wu Xie is allegedly the brains of their group (did you know he has a degree in architecture?) it's Pangzi who has thought of the practical things that they'll need for a misty environment.

Wait, what happened to Xiaoge's sword? I know he lost the original one during Ultimate Note era but Wu Xie replaced that one.

Ah, okay. Apparently Xiaoge's original sword came from the place they're going so I guess we're ignoring the Ultimate Note replacement so they can find a new one for him here. Who needs consistency when you're NPSS.

I'm losing my mind at 'xiongdi' being subbed as 'mate'. In my head these hunters now all have British English accents.

I'm very bummed about what Rolin Jones did to Lestat's character,yes he's a monster yes he's a toxic bitch but a domestic abuser he was not in any iteration. I don't see a lot of positive feelings for him nor do I see excitement for him like "omg I can't wait for Lestat next season" don't get me wrong I love Louis and Armand too but the way I relate to Lestat (and Nicki) i've never related to any other character

And people being like we are watching the show only for Louis & Armand once when s3 happens ratings will drop. Nobody wants his POV.

And rewatching some interviews/casting calls they're def gonna make Loumand more tender/sweet and now that they've realized what makes the audience backlash they will conveniently tailor the scripts to that not only sanitizing the characters but also making loustat toxic to a maddening degree compared to loumand

And even if Lestat comes w his POV the audience will be like so we're supposed to believe an abuser?

Levan a lifetime fan of the books read the script for E5 and went like "how is lestat supposed to come back from this?" And sam mentioned "this was a change that took a lot of time to process"

And if it was IWTV lestat only i'd still get it but they've mentioned the AMC!lestat is not the Lestat we see only in IWTV but also other books that means his nature will be carried on to the next seasons which the audience utterly despises

The books definitely have the abuse in them, especially in the first half of IWTV. Our later perception of Lestat is of course influenced by the later books, but in the first half of IWTV he IS the antagonist.

He probably would have destroyed the parlor furniture in a rage.

To just pick out a few key moments. He and Louis also fight a lot. Physically, too.

And I don't think the show will cater to the loud Loumand criers at all. The "people" you mention are a very loud minority on Twitter it seems, and they will be disappointed. Because all the old fans -I- know are waiting for S3... IWTV has been adapted before after all.

No-one needs to "believe" him... the tale will shift, and it will be fact - as in the books - and it won't invalidate said abuse, because the Lestat in later books himself never did that either.

Levan's comment can be read totally differently as well, especially given that he has to make it happen (with the others) - HOW are they going to do it. Not... "oh my god how am I ever going to have my poor blorbo reinstated!!11!!!" *sniffs*

The audience does not despise Lestat. He is a fictional character, and a lot of people enjoy a good antagonist, especially if there is a long, long character arc incoming.

It's fine if you do, but I would be very careful to generalize.

Especially since they already pulled the tale apart at the end of season 1. Anyone still thinking that was the (whole) truth we saw... well - what can I say.

BASICALLY for further context: this fic is like. how i have it in my head is the first chapter is a wishful-thinking type of thing. where clown is intentionally out of character (and specifically more in-line with zam's perception of him, being strong willed and close with the thing plaguing him. accepting it and emerging unharmed from the process of becoming one with [in his case] the void.) and celebrated. it's a fantasy. which is part of why that's specifically referred to as abacināre; to be blinded (typically by a red-hot iron rod or basin). because it isn't the truth.

"wind up the music box, look at the book again. whose story is it really?" is a call to the correct story, the one that zam was hiding behind this dream of being someone else.

currently i haven't fully finished zam's part. but. i gave him moths as a manifestation of trauma & paranoia & fear ^_^ because i just. something in my brain makes that click. (i've used that in previous fics. i can't remember where it came from but i like it, i use it). zam's spend his life trying to kill his fear, or hide away from it, only for it to come fluttering in through the cracks. so harmless, yet absolutely soul-destroying for him. he's tearing himself apart by proxy, since he's killing a part of himself with those moths.

something something trauma acceptance... i dunno it's a flowery metaphor for admiring people who've learnt to cope with trauma (or at least, what you've perceived as such. this is untrue in the case of what zam's seeing. clown was never bothered or hurt by the void, it was just a part of life to him. making this goal completely unachievable and unreasonable on zam's part) and not knowing how to, since their example doesn't apply to what you experienced. so instead you try and follow the example and it just brings you back to square one time and time again.

also, hence, spērāre, which can mean any of the following: "to hope, expect", "to await, anticipate", "to fear, be apprehensive", "to assume, suppose".

ALSO LASTLY, the fic's title being Asomatous, meaning without a material body; incorporeal. is just the icing on the cake that is this horrible angst riddled fic. because like. zam's assumptions aren't based in anything real, they have no grounding to them. and honestly? in this... zam may as well be a ghost. and the moths as well. they aren't real, they're a manifestation ^_^ (i can't go ten minute without giving my blorbos issues. and i just like making them Like Me yk yk)

The erasure and sanitization of stories that then get commodidified and distributed on mass to be the "right version" of the story that then become almost the "only version" of the story. Erasing centuries of culture and influence, beliefs and experiences, real world problems that these stories portray, and replacing them with the most marketable version.

And in a way, the stories themselves end up cannibalizing their different versions to fit in as the "right version" or just the nature of time combining and losing stories over time.

Like all of the worlds and groups are from folklore. Stories that have been told over and over again, that change to fit the world and the message that needs to be conveyed. Folklore isn't supposed to have a "right version". Much like weaving, the basics of cloth weaving are very similar all over the world but what is made with those techniques, the styles and additional learned cultural practices, can be so very different or so weirdly similar you wouldn't believe they came from different places across the globe from one another.

But in our more modern era where all of our stories feel factory made, we know where they come from, they aren't "folk" in so so many ways. The closest we get to folk media these days are MEMES. They are passed around and shared, often the original poster gets lost or is not common knowledge, have real world effect and meaning, and exist mainly in a specific group culture (internet culture, tumblr culture, etc) To quote my old professor "All folklore are memes, but not all memes are folklore" Think Creepy pasta vs horror movie. Internet legends, "send to 10 friends or blank will happen to you". BLORBO is a folk term. Slang in general I believe is counted as folk based. FANFICTION IN MANY CASES IS CONSIDERED FOLKORE BTW and I find that sooo delightful.

And whats kills memes faster than anything? The commodification of it! When companies go "ooo that'll make us some money" and take it and sell it back to us for profit. Often these days it feels choc full of advertisements and versions of propaganda.

In this era of Disney overlords defining the genre of fairytales to the point that they have set the standard for what is cannon for certain stories they tell. Like the first time I found REAL fairytales I was like 9 and cried myself to sleep because they got so dark, and how were we (me and my mom) to know with how we expected the disneyfied version of the story. Ironically it could be said that the Grimm's Brothers are guilty of the exact same thing in their era, commodifying and centralizing their versions of the stories.

I could also get into the demonization of tropes (lookin at you cinema sins) because tropes are the building blocks of story telling. Common themes and elements that we recognize because they MEAN something to us.

But, and I know what site I'm on, fanfiction is a great example of taking those stories and in some ways turning them into folklore. Its not because we believe we can tell the stories better, in most cases at least, but rather that we take the elements, characters, ideas that we connect to that we love and mean something to us, and make play with it because we have our own stories to tell.

The Homogenization and restricting of what counts and what doesn't ignores the importance of the differences in the stories.

Ylfa's "right" version is a lot like how the animals describe being part of Aesop's fables. There's no nuance. There's no room for change and adaptation. And in a world ever changing, even in bad ways, you have to change to make it work. Even Gerard's "Sometimes you have to be scary in a scary world" touches on this. The barebones basic Little Red Ridinghood is unrealistic in its simplicity. And also kinda blocks out how that whole experience would still be heavily traumatic for anyone (being attacked by a wolf and seeing your granny crawl out of the wolf's destroyed body ain't pretty) , even if it is better than the experience in this life. Meanwhile the more they die, the more versions of their stories get cannibalized and lost to time. Much like how folklore and stories die when culture dies.

Also Stepmom literally consumes story elements into non existence.

Even the occasional Faerie Court had been overtaken by these majestic winged lizards. Castien respected this tendency to destroy. Nature often did the same thing. The earth would tremble like a leaf in a windstorm. Dry season fires. A horde of pixies could destroy every organic life in sight if they were hungry enough. Destruction wasn't unnatrual, he supposed.

Castien nestled into the warm being next to him. He felt Wednesday’s airy touch trace the patterns on his face. As soon as Castien tried to move into a less vulnerable position, he was only moved closer to the man holding him. 

“You’re not escaping from me,” Wednesday stated.

The mixture of earthy tones made Castien a living testament to Nature Goddess’s existence (in Wendesday’s opinion). 

“Quit staring.” Castien protested, the lighter parts of his face turning bright red. 

“Now you look like a sunset.” Wednesday teased.

fundy built the socializing club to resolve their arguments and purpled booby trapped it and stole everyone’s shit cause he’s just like that

L’Manberg War(s): he dabbled in lmanberg shit my guy had no idea what the fuck was going on all the god damn time he was so confused bro was literally just standing there one time he say ccrimeboys (who were exiled from lmanberg and were absolutely not supposed to be there) and he (a member of lmanberg) decided to just ignore them cause he can’t be bothered to give a shit he literally allowed Technoblade to causally boat home after he massacred everyone at the festival and murdered Tubbo he has zero fucks to give

He goes back to his stupid little cottage and is even sadder for a while and then Mr Charlie Slimecicle gaslights him for 30 minutes and he decides to join las nevadas (he’s lying about wanting to be there)

he hangs around lying to people for a bit and then sets up his overdramatic lava trap and yells at Quackity some more and then kills his bf for revenge cause that’s what they do on this server I fucking guess

so Asbeel's lore is as follows: they used to be a respected fighter, marketed as the Angel of Destruction and as the Father's left hand. however, an incident back in time immemorial led to Asbeel getting confused about what to destroy, and through calculating themselves into a hole, they misplaced themselves and razed a Heavenly citadel to the ground. hence, why they're so feared by the Armies of Heaven, and by proxy have the reputation that they do.

Asbeel, after this incident, was cut off from their halo and Fancy Little Details, which led to them forging themselves a crowbar for self defense. in another time immemorial, they were led to being +ENRAGED for the better part of forever, likely related to how no one wants to talk to them, let alone how they cannot talk to anyone - a restrictment forced upon them by the Holy Father in their creation.

they've always wanted to say hi to people, but they've never been able to since God's been around forever... but during Act III of ULTRAKILL, Asbeel is summoned to Treachery-4 /// Judeccca... and finally emits some form of communication, albeit infront of the one who's back they've broken back a billion eons ago or so - Gabriel. yes, they've broken Gabriel's back. no, this is not really important to their lore. just thought i'd include that.

now, Asbeel's lore was briefly touched on above in the 2 am blabberfest, but tonight i plan to go a little deeper.

Asbeel was primarily created by the Holy Father Thou Art in Heaven to function as a problem solving tool, for the problems that don't want to be solved and also don't seem important enough for the Big Boys such as Gabriel and Michael. one such example can be a rogue machine roamin' through Hell that needs judgement, or a ruler going a little too out of pocket for the Council's liking.

tl;dr, if a problem grew too annoying for the Council, and no one really felt it appropriate for the Armies, Asbeel got sent in to deal with it. pretty simple.

if there are no problems for Asbeel to deal with? they get to stand guard by gates that no one else has the time to guard. it was Very Very Boring for them but they couldn't complain because it was literally impossible for them to do such.

as Asbeel's time of "half problem solution, half gate guardian" has come to a close, and after them being used to punish Gabriel for losing to a fucking go-pro, they finally unlock the ability to Go Do Whatever... just as soon as they finish guarding the Council's personal chambers.

however... as you can tell, they didn't give a shit.

because Gabriel had other plans. you get it.

:3 sure thing! i love talking about these guys. they started as my beam saber characters tragedy ("my crew was destroyed by a bigger faction") and i've sort of been expanding them out from there.

the dandy highwaymen are a crew of 8 (9 including jammer, but he doesnt join until about 8 years into them being a crew) of misfits with dissociative disorders. they steal mechas and fence them, or break them down to use for parts. the star sector they're in is in the midst of a cold war between a few huge factions that we don't actually see much of. they usually operate in a 'colder' part of the sector - one with no proxy wars, which is treated as a training ground for soldiers for those proxy wars - but stole a mech known as the 'showstopper' from the front lines. that's the heartstealer, which fluke kept. this mech was a prototype that was going to end up drastically flipping the war into one faction's favour, so of course they noticed, and so sent an agent to infiltrate the crew and send a message that they're not to be fucked with by utterly destroying them and publicizing that destruction in a way that would make similar crews ... nervous about whether or not they had their own mole.

web serial will be in the style of various heists - i'm hoping to hit somewhere between baby driver + now you see me + marielda (friends at the table season) with some character-driven stuff filling out the gaps in between. its a silly tragedy/comedy thing as the audience obviously will have more information than the characters, with some significant romance/mystery/sci-fi mecha bullshit thrown in there. there's a lot of stuff i still need to figure out logistically (which is difficult because this is also a prequel to my fiance's beam saber game and i dont want to make hir reveal too much to me :P) but i enjoy heist stuff and i think superpowering it with mechs rocks.

fluke, it/its, it/she if youre feeling Dangerous. a hotshit driver that has a program that can let it operate mechs as if they all had the same controls. its an extremely volatile and intensely emotional person who is just the definition of Hot Mess; it has a thing about being remembered/special.

forge, he/him. forge is the mastermind behind everything and extremely a control freak. he's a bit too logical and a bit too rational. he's also a mechanic, and repairs/dismantles all the mechs. he's extremely good at Making Plans and Leading People but isn't super good at anything else. him and fluke are married, and they met when they were little kids. they started the dandy highwaymen together.

windf4ll / windfall, it/its. this guy is more my fiance's blorbo than mine but i like it so its ok. its an AI that accidentally came into existence when forge + fluke were about 13/14, shortly before they started the highwaymen, because forge left a file running. it's very persecutorial in nature TO forge and cares... immensely about fluke, probably because those two were constantly arguing about whether or not to let it keep living. its very silly funny and also like, insanely fucking powerful.

jackdaw, he/they. jackie is a time traveler, but you're not supposed to know that ;P. they're a very people-focused person, and they really do know how to talk to and keep everyone distracted. in fact, he might talk a Little too much. but that's okay. he's the face/grifter/conartist type of their little group, and has a bad habit of 'savescumming' (kind of works like this) through every moment of his life to try to find the right way to go. they try to present as Very Cool.

lilac, she/they. lilac joined pretty early because she can kind of see the future, a little bit? she can affect fate in a huge way and it was less those guys seeking her out and more her coming to them. she sort of presented herself as knowing So Much Shit and having a lot of control over augmented reality and reality in general, and then was like :) our futures are linked. you're making a crew. i'm joining you. again like this happens when they're all 15 so its kind of funny as hell

laika + tomb joined together, they're kind of inseparable a bit. they'd been hid out on the moon of a planet that TDH's first score - an auction, not a mech stealing thing :P - was on. they were trying to steal back one of laika's inventions and forge + fluke were both impressed while lilac sort of was jsut like teehee... :). so they joined. they both use all pronouns iirc and are sort of a study in the inversion of being too grounded in the world (using social connection as a conduit and not paying attention to yourself) and being too up in your own head (making/creating things). this is also why tomb is a beamsaber giant killer (doesn't have a mech, rips them apart with their bare hands) while laika is a luminary (constantly making new technology).

laika is very bubbly and silly and uh. well. she's also someone who pushes tech/her body specifically very far. 1.) shes a biohacker. 2.) uhhh. well. th. th. it has dog ears

ghost joined arounnnd when they were all 18ish, about 2 years give or take before our story will be starting. she's very easily given to. idk how to describe this... pushing people away or not allowing them to get in super close? but not in a particularly assholeish or even all that obvious way. they were a lonely kid who grew up with the notion that relationships will tie you to bad situations and a lot of her arc is learning that while that can be true it is still important to trust yourself + others. also she can teleport :thumbs up:

aaaand jammer was the head of a squad from the hotseat of the war, the panopticon. he was sent in to play double agent (leaving his sister in charge of that squad which is basically like. i don't know what you'd call the equiv of a black site as a squad but think that. super secret blackops spy type shit that gets its hands Extremely dirty). he's the son of a richguy as well. ofc tdh don't know this. hes kind of the worst in a very pretentious and smarmy way but its ok hes my guy. he kind of ends up falling in love w/ fluke + trusting the rest of TDH and having a pretty huge conflict internally about whether or not he wants to go through with killing them or try to get them out... too bad that his sister both holds the reigns of the panopticon, that she has the asset of a living weapon, and that she does not fucking like him.

What I love about them: OKAY SO, the wonders of watching YGO as a fully grown person: suddenly the snarky, over the top, asshole rival character quickly becomes your favorite. As a kid, I genuinely didn't care at all about him. But that changed SO MUCH, as an adult. IMHO Kaiba may as well be the protagonist of the anime's version of YGO. What I hate about them: Nothing comes to my mind, honestly? Sometimes, you just want your blorbos going off the charts, and that's all A-OK in my book. Although I'll say it: Kaiba's involvement in the 5Ds anime is kinda of confusing ngl. I get that's part of the same timeline, but???? IDK something is off. Maybe there was going to be more, that didn't make it in the end. Favorite Moment/Quote: I honestly could put every single line he has ever said in the dub. But the one that takes the gold for me has to be:

What I would like to see more focus on: I feel like it would have been nice to see some more of him in both GX and 5Ds (the latter is just to try better explain why was he involved in the big catastrophe of the series, but I also don't mind leaving it up for interpretation and guesses)What I would like to see less focus on: I wished Yugi/Atem wouldn't steal the attention from Kaiba's story, so he isn't reduced into another cheerleader. Favorite pairing with: Yugi/Kaiba, Ishizu Ishtar/Seto Kaiba, Malik Ishtar/Seto Kaiba and Ryuji Otogi/Seto Kaiba are some of the ships I still hold dearly to! Favorite friendship: Kaiba doesn't have any friendships. NO BUT HEAR ME OUT, I like the idea of Pegasus and Kaiba trying to amend for what happened in Duelists' kingdom, as shown in their v close business relationship in GX. I'm glad the anime didn't kill off Pegasus. NOTP: Joey/Kaiba Favorite headcanon: 4kids' dub version of unhinged Kaiba > the sub original and more down to earth Kaiba. I said it, and I'll keep saying it: This is the exact reason I loved this character. "bUt iTs nOt FaiThFul tO tHe SoURcE mAtEriaL" I can hear ppl cry about it, and I'll keep supporting dubbed Kaiba's assholery in that version. Even if it comes at the cost of the story/context of many things changing. It's a price I'm willing to pay.

Ahsoka Tano

What I love about them: Ahsoka's behind the scenes production story is genuinely interesting, in a time and period where nobody feels like putting effort into anything, and just resort to insulting others at the slightest bit of criticism! It's refreshing and very inspiring! When TCW was in production, they decided to give Anakin a padawan, and they KNEW the reception to the idea wouldn't be a warm one from the community. So, instead of throwing a tantrum, the team EMBRACED that and worked around it. So Ahsoka would gradually gain the audience's interest, as she also grew as a character. Ahsoka IS intentionally written as an unlikeable brat in the first 2 seasons, and in the later seasons we see how much she matured. The effort paid off, and Ahsoka is now held up as one of the best prequels era characters. What I hate about them: Filoni is setting out to undo all the hardwork they put into her, via overexposure. Ever since the Mandalorian show, she suddenly became the bridge to EVERYTHING. Even though, her actions shouldn't really give her that much influence or position to begin with. Favorite Moment/Quote:

What I would like to see more focus on: I'd love to see some more of her bond and connection with Plo Koon. We only get a 5 secs clip, in the first season of TCW of them meeting, and this is never expanded on. Which IMO is such a big missed opportunity. What I would like to see less focus on: STOP FILONI'S ANTI-JEDI PROPAGANDAAAA Favorite pairing with: Rex/Ahsoka Favorite friendship: Ahsoka & Anakin, Ahsoka & Padmé, Ahsoka & Barriss. Honestly? I could go off. NOTP: Any form of Master/padawan ship. This is something I'm not interested in to begin with, and that doesn't go away even after she leaves the order or ages over time. That just isn't my cup of tea - So basically: Sabine/Ahsoka and Anakin/Ahsoka. Favorite headcanon: I can't hear Filoni, she is not going around blaming the jedi for their own genocide. She also doesn't go around calling herself a jedi knight, whenever it is convenient to her. She left the order in her own accords, and she has to live with that fact.

i tried so hard to answer this succinctly i promise.

creation for me is equal parts excitement (and later, pride) for the finished piece to interact with, and reverence for the fact i'm crafting something where nothing was before. sometimes the act of creation is enough; i sit with something i pour energy and attention into for hours and when the spirit leaves me i abandon the thing forever. i just needed to put energy into something so it wasn't in me driving me nuts. you can do it with legos, you can do it with yoga, you can do it with cooking. sometimes i just need to get my literal or figurative hands and teeth into something and be present with it for a while.

other times i have a final product i need for various purposes, and in that case the creation is an extended period of bouncing my leg and giggling before i get to go TADAAA!!! and that feels...

it seems inadequate, though not inaccurate, to just say creating feels good but it comes ultimately down to that, i suppose. i have an Urge that fills me with such profound mental zoomies that i have to craft language or put lines to a naked page and make something where previously nothing existed - and i think i'm not doing a great job explaining how mind blowing that is to me!!! matter cannot be created nor destroyed yeah yeah yeah but it can be manipulated and art is literally manipulating matter to your will and image - and isn't that kind of fucking bonkers??? are you not freaking out a little bit? that's something i can do when i'm bored. the manipulation of literal matter to create beauty (or ugliness, or horror, or tragedy) for the sake of - entertainment??? is it not a little bit like godhood??

creating helps quiet the eternal giddy static in my mind - literally for as long as it takes for someone to go hey that was cool and then the static is back better than ever and i have to go make more. am i making sense?

💞what's the most important part of a story for you? the plot, the characters, the worldbuilding, the technical stuff (grammar etc), the figurative language

the who. when i sit down with a story the most important thing for me is why is this happening to this character? when i craft a fic it's because there's a core story i want told, and then i go and choose (or in original works, craft) the exact person to tell the story i mean to. the person who's going to do the most justice to the spirit of what i'm trying to capture, through whose lens the message will be best conveyed, through whose actions the consequences and benefits will be most obvious. most often i start with an idea of the general vibes or the ultimate moral lesson i want in a story, and then i go and, for lack of a better term, colour match my blorbos against it and see who fits the nicest. the stories i tell with kingsley, for example, perhaps would not hit so well with percy. a story i started writing about molly just makes more sense about fjord. and so on.

Oooooh, tough but fun!

blorbo (favourite character, character I think about the most): Steve Rogers. I just... really love him. "Not a perfect soldier, but a good man" says it all. Plus I find the innate sadness he always carries around so fascinating in a heartbreaking way. We all riff on the Nomad identity, but I think it perfectly encapsulates the quiet tragedy of Steve's situation; a man out of time with no place or home where he truly belongs, so he throws himself into duty and purpose as the next best thing. Basically the character I most want to give a hug to.

scrunkly (my "baby", character that gives me cuteness aggression, character that is so Shaped): Thor Odinson. In many ways, he echoes what I love about Steve with how he tries to walk the line between being a great king and a good man, and I love the contrast between his charming, self-assured princely side and his quieter, more vulnerable moments. (Also, let the record show that either of these labels could apply to either of these characters).

scrimblo bimblo (underrated/underappreciated fave): Maria Rambeau; the scenes where she grapples with reconciling Vers with Carol and knowing she was right to believe that there was more to her supposed death all along are some of my favourites in that movie. Lashana Lynch really makes the part shine.

glup shitto (obscure fave, character that can appear in the background for 0.2 seconds and I won't shut up about it for a week): Jane Foster, I just love watching the contrast between her more scientific mind and the fantastical/mystical world Thor introduces her to (the soul forge? "You have their ball"? *chef kiss*). I also really like her scenes in Dark World's original ending, it's a shame they had to change it for the Loki twist.

poor little meow meow ("problematic"/unpopular/controversial/otherwise pathetic fave): Ikaris - a recent addition! He's a mass of contradictions that's just fascinating to pick apart, one that he ultimately can't bring himself to live with, and I really hope they'll bring him back in some capacity in the future. Wanda Maximoff is a runner up!

horse plinko (character I would torment for fun, for whatever reason): Stephen Strange would probably be the most fun, given how haughty and arrogant he can come across. I remember you rewatching all the Marvel movies with commentary in the run up to Endgame (or Infinity War? idk), and your comment about how Strange is one of the few Marvel protagonists who starts out as genuinely not a very good person and retains his negative traits (albeit less pronounced than before) by the end always stuck with me.

eeby deeby (character I would send to superhell): Helmut Zemo. You take the reconciliation? You take the fragile reconciliation between Steve and Tony and destroy it with the truth of December 16th 1991? Oh, jail for Zemo, jail for 1000 years!

LOL MAX I KNEW YOU'D BE THE ONE TO HIT ME WITH THIS FIRST. And what a good fandom! (I was fairly sure you were gonna make me work with Kuroko or something lmaoooooo) Anyway here we go! Also for clarity, this will be exclusively based on the original Sailor Moon anime (because the manga and Crystal hit very different u know.) Also this is going under a read more bc I wrote you a FUCKING novel.

1. blorbo (favorite character, character I think about the most):

Minako Aino/Sailor Venus. Listen, I love her Your Honor. I honestly expected this one to be the most difficult to answer bc boy howdy do I love SO MANY of the characters in this anime, and so many dynamics??? At the end of the day though, Minako has been such a longtime favorite, and I really do love her portrayal in the classic anime. We get her first appearance, so cool and so competent; we find out she's been working on her own for so long, and that she's relieved to be part of the team. As the series progresses we see her grappling with the things she's given up (specifically volleyball, and teenage romances, and non-senshi friendships), and trying to determine whether she can have those things in her life, or if she's going to be forced to constantly choose between a sense of normalcy and this responsibility that she feels so deeply. I always personally interpreted her boy-and-celebrity crazy traits as the feedback from feeling so cut-off from normal teenage experiences, as well as those being a safer outlet for those feelings. It's easier to have a wild crush on a celebrity who knows you don't exist, than on someone who might like you back and be hurt for it one day. I love her so, so, SO much and I think about her far too often. rip.

2. scrunkly (my “baby”, character that gives me cuteness aggression, character that is So Shaped):

Chibiusa/Sailor Chibi Moon. I suspect this isn't supposed to be a literal baby, but holy shit would I adopt Chibiusa tomorrow. She's so tiny and has so many big, over-the-top, feelings that she can't really contain them all. She's a baby whose fight-or-flight has been set to the maximum throw hands setting, and her first appearance is so iconic that I have literally no choice but to stan. I remember thinking she was annoying when I was a teenager, but I was fucking wrong. I love how her courage and fear are portrayed side-by-side; how she wants so BADLY to be an adult, and actively tries to take on responsibilities and consequences of adulthood, but ultimately relies on the "adults" around her to help because at the end of the day she is a little girl. Her friendships with Hotaru and Setsuna are so fucking wholesome I could die, and literally anytime Diana is perched on her head I could destroy the screen because it's so cute. I can't take it.

3. scrimblo bimblo (underrated/underappreciated fave)

Zoisite. This might be cheating, but also I'm of the opinion that no matter how many people might appreciate him, it's not enough. Listen, is there a little bit of the stereotypical bitchy femme gay present in this adaptation of Zoisite? Yes. Is it also balanced by the fact that Zoisite is one of the most competent villains in the entire series? In my opinion, also yes. I can see where other people might not be able to look through the stereotype, but I know quite a few men like him tbh and I think he's allowed to be fleshed out enough as a character that he isn't just the stereotype. Also he's a total, ruthless, bitch and he deserved better out of a top than Kunzite. I said what I said. I love them as a ship but good god did Kunzite just absolutely come unraveled when Zoisite died when you KNOW what that bitchy little twink wanted was for Kunzite to kill the senshi and Beryl and take power for himself, or something. Damn. Also Zoisite orchestrated Nephrites downfall and I think that really does elevate him to an S-tier character, because I needed his gaslighting p*do ass to go.

Fisheye. Maybe also Tigereye and Hawkeye, but mostly Fisheye. These characters get a dramatically expanded role in the narrative in the anime, and it's one of my FAVORITE arcs in the entire series, tbh? And I just never see enough people talk about them, so I will do it for all of us. I will shoulder this weight. Queer representation in Sailor Moon is a hot topic, and I could write a whole-ass novel on that on a different post, so I'm going to keep it to this: Fisheye deserves better than what he gets in Crystal and in the manga, and the anime gives it to him. Is he another effeminate gay character who is a villain? Yes (kind-of.) There's definitely some problems to unpack in the choices made with Fisheye as representation, I'll admit. That being said, I love that he's the most competent of his peers, and I love that when betrayed by his incompetent boss, he turns around and joins Sailor Moon's side (and gives his life in the process???) only to have his treachery betrayed by having Sailor Moon and Helios give him what he always wanted -- which was a very innocent wish, and really he's just a victim here. I COULD DO LIKE AN ENTIRE THING JUST ABOUT FISHEYE OKAY I REALLY LOVE HIM. (Prince Saphir is also my runner-eye for this one, but he has less to dig into and less for me to rant about for an entire week.)

poor little meow meow (“problematic”/unpopular/controversial/otherwise pathetic fave):

Haruka Tenoh/Sailor Uranus & Michiru Kaioh/Sailor Neptune. I'm blatantly cheating at this point, but if you're still reading this novel I think you can live with that lmaoooo. There is a lot more controversy surrounding this duo than I personally think that there should be, and I could probably also do an entire post about it, but the main takeaway here is that I love their OG anime portrayal. You can pry it from my cold, dead, hands. Particularly the way that they're written in Sailor Moon S [chef kiss]. I have very strong opinions about both the manga and Crystal's take on Haruka in particular (read: I don't like it), and I've seen a LOT of discourse about these women over the years in fandom spaces. I can't elaborate right now, but if someone wants me to I'm sure I can make a post that will get me blocked by a bunch of people, and have others screaming that I've got anon turned off. (I'm not afraid of anon hate, I just think if you've got something to say you can say it with your whole fucking chest.)(also right now anon is turned ON because I'm in a fic exchange but shhhhhhh.) (Seiya Kou is my runner-up for this one, and probably at least two others.)

horse plinko (character I would torment for fun, for whatever reason):

Mamoru Chiba/Tuxedo Mask. All day, every day. If you didn't see this coming, we didn't watch the same anime. My mans here has two personality speeds: boyfriend (flat, boring, unoriginal; cardboard would fill-in just as nicely) and dad (inspired, show-stopping, original.) This is a guy who's so terrified of his own two brain cells that at one point, while suffering amnesia, he develops a whole-ass borderline racist subconscious persona and then manifests it as a tangible psychic projection. He's very sweet, but utterly unreliable. Dude loses his memories every five episodes. He loses basically every fight he picks. He has the dumbest dialogue the series have ever beheld. God, I love him. God, he's so easy to roast. What a king. (Seiya Kou is also a runner-up for this. This whole ass boy really thought Usagi was ever gonna give him another glance for half a season. RIP.)

eeby deeby (character I would send to superhell):

Prince Demande & Nephrite. I feel like these need no explanation, if you've watched the original anime. Though Demande is a bit toned down, and I would probably hesitate, for Saphir's sake. (runner-up: Seiya Kou, but only in specific episodes. my dude she told you she has a boyfriend??? also Haruka will kick his ass long before I get him stuffed into superhell lmaooooooo)
