Okay, but can we talk about this one Christmas scene in BBC Sherlock S2E2?

Let's take a look at this one dialog that occured when John needs to stay with Sherlock to comfort him after Irene's death and his girlfriend is upset:

"You're a great boyfriend!" "Okay, that's good. I mean, I always thought I was great-" "And Sherlock Holmes is a very lucky man." "Oh, Jeanette please"

John has his priorities and it's very obvious to everyone involved (even tho I do think that staying with your best friend after the death of a person who was important to him is a valid reason to miss a celebration) I suppose it just was the last straw for her

"No, I mean it. It's heartwarming. You'll do anything for him. And he can't even tell your girlfriends apart!"

The fact that John's love is so unconditional he doesn't even care if Sherlock returns it reminds me so much of this one episode of Doctor Who where River Song compared loving Doctor to loving sun: "You don't expect the sun to love you back!" or something like this, I don't remember the quote and it breaks my heart so much.

(Yes I did a wholock reference, what are you gonna do about it?)

And I also see here how much he tries to move on knowing that sun will not love him back but he just can't.

"No, I'll do anything for you, just tell me what it is, I'm not doing, tell me!" "Don't make me compete with Sherlock Holmes!"

This quote is so important because even Jeanette knows and understands the entirety of the situation John's in.

Compete with Sherlock Holmes is something nobody can do (all his enemies get defeated as we know) but not only villians are a threat, even loved ones will always be on a second place for John. The first place is forever taken by this one nerd not knowing the Earth is moving around the Sun (even tho he's the sun himself).

"I'll walk your dog for you. There, I've said it now, I'll even walk your dog." "I don't have a dog!" "No, because that was the last one- Okay."

Even John himself admits his defeat and realises what he got himself into.

(He did marry Mary eventually, and even tho I love her character, I can't help but see her being another one of "escapes" for John.)

Please don't witchhunt me for "hating on straight ships" or whatever, complain at the directors and writers who made John so unbearably closeted any other of his ships just doesn't sail (pun fully intended).

All I see here is a man desperately stuck in his one-sided feelings and fear of being out, he goes through the struggle a lot of queer people experienced in their life.

Yes, it's been done many times before, but I can't help but say that the production crew are cowards for not making John canonically queer when his writing is so authentic it makes me experience almost physical pain.

Coming back to the topic of Mary btw, I think it was fucking lame in the way her destiny turned out to be. She deserved to have a good life with loving husband and a child, but writers put her in the story just to make John not so openly queer coded (bi and pan people exist btw but it's a topic for another conversation unfortunately) and they just killed her off to "sail" the johnlock ship in the end because they are cowards to actually follow through with queerbaiting (that's what the quotes for, because they haven't actually sailed it). I hate, and I mean HATE when a woman is added to a story just for a man's character development and gets killed off and BBC's Sherlock situation is exactly like this. Why even add her to the story if you don't plan on making her stay with John? The last season makes no sense and makes me so angry I often pretend it doesn't exist "BOO TOMATOES TOMATOES-" (it's the reason I don't want any new Sherlock seasons tbh)

Gay Friendship

I'm feeling so warm in my heart after watching a few episodes of the Thai gay reality dating show, "Boys Like Boys."

There's so much discourse around gay happy endings, but I think I just crave gay friendship, whether happy ending or not. Shows like Boys Like Boys, Only Friends, Looking, and even the Netflix Queer Eye depict the building of intimate friendships between imperfect human beings who have been through shit. After all, it's not the suffering that's unbearable, it's the belief that we must shoulder our burdens and successes alone. They each take the romance premise as a starting point (BLB is a dating show, Only Friends is a BL series, Looking follows a classic romance plot, and the first episode of QE opens with the team trying to help a man get his life together to win back his love) but the bond among the group becomes the more central motor of the overarching narrative for the audience.

One literary scholar, Amy Hungerford at Yale, in a lecture on Philip Roth discussed how homosexuality in narratives has been historically perceived as threatening to the push-and-pull of difference and otherness created by heterosexuality that urges a story along with adequate dynamic tension. (She doesn't say it should be this way, only that it has previously been thought of this way). Even when gay narratives come into the frame, they often go back to the same kind of heterosexual romance plot and place some other kind of difference between the two characters for them to overcome (think the class distinctions in Maurice) or the plot is more about the conflict between the heterosexual society and the gay character (can they assimilate and be accepted by the straights like Love, Simon, or will we get a tragic ending where they're never accepted like Brokeback Mountain, there's a third option where they stand up to an unaccepting society and go off into a new community but within the confines of the plot device of individual vs. society, this would still be considered tragic). Centralizing a group friendship reorients these plot traditions in a compelling way for the audience.

Focusing on a developing friend group supplies adequate tension and conflict with a dynamic of individual vs. society. Rather than a heterosexual society, it emphasizes the society of other gays (within a broader heterosexually-oriented world). This society of gays is a more nebulous group as far as what they might believe and represent for an individual. It changes the conversation from a binary between straight acceptance vs. gay identity into a conversation about one's place of belonging within the broad arms of gay experience. Boys Like Boys has contestants on a scale from unclear gender identities to masculine bi guys who aren't used to spending time with gays or sharing their feelings (and those two share a room and become besties on the show. Race, class, and openness all range among the contestants, too. We watch as they attempt to discuss these differences and take care of one another, even as discomfort and conflict arise. It's heartwarming and heartbreaking to hear how novel and meaningful these relationships become for the contestants.

The friendship doesn't erase the desire for romance in any of these shows. People are still trying to date and find love. In fact, the friendship factor adds tension to the proceedings. Whereas heterosexual dynamics have an immediate thrust from the assumption that gender difference will lead to eventual romance rather than friendship, the gay relationships developed in these shows are much more unclear for those involved and the audience. Both friendship and romance seem equally important, and you hope and worry at the same time about friendships transforming into something with a more sexual thrust. You have to consider how a romantic relationship with someone within or outside of the friend group will impact the whole group. How much time will they be spending with the group while they're dating someone? What if feelings aren't reciprocated, will that disrupt the friendships? What if two people are crushing on the same person? How does a friend group survive this kind of turmoil?! And how can you tell the difference between a friendly attraction and a romantic attraction!? These all become heightened in this gay friend group dynamic.

Friendship also fails to change the broader world (even though the Platonic ideal and Forster might have it otherwise). Oppressive and marginalizing systems still chug on. Families are still families. Even the gays within the friend group are still flawed people who say the wrong thing and make mistakes. A friend group isn't a cure, it's a cushion. Nor is a friend group a found family. The friends in these shows continue to seek connection and regard for their own families, or, if not possible--Bobby from QE is a good example of this--they work on building lives and family structures outside of the friend group. (Whether you like it or not, friend groups are pretty weak social structures for funding those basic needs that we expect families to provide and support--food, shelter, purposeful employment, etc.) Emphasizing a place for family might sound like reverting to the nuclear family model but family can mean many different structures, check out wikipedia for some ideas lol. Basically the family provides security and structure. The friend group is more dynamic with its structure and has more focus on emotional support than life's necessities.

Friendship, with its emotional purpose, becomes narratively powerful in these gay stories when one appreciates both the loneliness and instability with which gay people enter into gay society. Most have had to recognize how they differ from, not only the people that raised them and provided them security but the laws and traditions that were supposed to embrace and guide them as they grew older. Gay friendship offers a respite where comfort and imagination are possible despite hardship. It's not transformation of the world, but its the balm you need (and can return to) to go out with patience and compassion and deal with life, and the opportunity for you to offer that same gift to others who are different but like you.

off the bat XO, Kitty has a lot of potential. i saw where they were going with it, they tried so hard to make it like a kdrama, where you think one thing, or miscommunication trope, or the enemies x lovers trope, or the villain is actually a good person: all that aside, it failed in many ways. the miscommunication thing was a lot. it made me not really ship dae and her at all. like AT ALL. throughout this whole struggle for her to get to him, and finally end up with him, it felt like uGh bruh are we deadass?? their breakup was ill timed too, but i loved the ending speech. (i have not finished the last episode because i refuse to watch her board that plane)

i had a hard time shipping dae with her in the first place which i think the writers did intentionally because they wanted the audience to engage with the other possible people: Yuri and Min Ho. and you can see the appeal off the bat. i think the bumping into people trope got way too lost in the sauce, and Yuri letting her into the car just cause was absolutely stupid: to sell a “bad girl” villain, you gotta do better but they kept making you want to like her so it was obvious right off the bat we needed to keep an open mind about her. and then, min ho, he was our straight bait. like off the bat every audience member can say without a doubt that min ho is sexy asf. i can say it. we all can tell. he was obviously the other catch. the run in at the grocery store, the cooking for her, the giving her space thing, that was what sold it.

what this show did was rush things, yes. a lot of the tropes are cliche and a bit run, but what the show did succeed on was make the characters lovable. dae is adorable. his soft voice and endearing smile, and Q being the sweet one who happens to be an athlete and our bby gay, and min ho who is like a cat, where once he warms up to you, he lets you pet him, and yuri being our badass lesbian goddess: all these characters great. showing how some koreaboo went to KISS and the show making fun of that was good, but there were times where she was on screen and it was unbearable, like ugh, poor actress who had to play this :( , but also i loved the soundtrack, like these bitches paid MONEY for blackpink and itzy to pop up.

i feel like they rushed though all and all. but i will say this and it might be unpopular. i’m queer and i loved that kitty was figuring herself out. i needed that. it healed something in me because she realized at 17. i was closeted and pushed away my feelings for a girl being petty or feeling a tummy butterflies thing till like college. so this? was relatable af. yet, i still chose to ship min ho x kitty. why? because netflix set it up that way. you KNOW yuri is head strong. she’s after julianna and like the show kept saying, not everything is on kitty’s timetable. kitty getting rejected is bound to happen. i’m glad she fell for yuri and the connected on such a deep level: that’s a real crush and real feelings, but you see the parallels to peter kavinsky and min ho. the mom thing, the suddenly knows things about you, the “not surface level” deep, the “id rather move on with a koreaboo than face my feelings for my friends ex, and even when they get together, i still avoid my feelings because that’s what i do as a troubled lead man” thing. i ship them, i’m sorry. and i hate myself for it but i do ship it.

—my hypothesis is that something next season is gonna happen between kitty having to choose between Yuri and Min Ho. do i agree with this tho? no. —

i disagree with how netflix set up this ship. they give her bi awakening and already set her up for the straight ship. that’s why i’m not surprised. that’s why i knew to ship min ho and kitty together. netflix may say they are for the ppl but they will give the bare minimum. and this is not to say that this makes kitty less bi, no it doesn’t, and this is not to shame bi babes who are in heteronormative relationships, but it’s a reflection and call out to how netflix shaped this. if next season she doesn’t end up with yuri, you know why.

i’m rambling now. but my main point was that they rushed things. they rushed all these deep moments, they added too many plot twists in the season like a kdrama does (but kdramas actually make it good), and they rushed the way people fell for each other. i wish there was a bigger backstory to julianna and how they fell in love . how dae knew the comfort sock thing, the reason why min ho had divorced parents: how that affected him, and making Q a bit more dimensional. i hate when they include a gay character and only make it about them being gay. you only see him date florian, you don’t really get to know Q outside of his quest for Florian and his relationship with him. and even the talks he had with kitty were revolved around men. like bffr. i loved his character on Love, Victor and the undersold Anthony’s acting abilities in this one :(

overall i needed more from this show and i will finish the remaining minutes soon, but yeah. i think kitty’s bi experience was exceptional and beautiful, but the way that the show is setting up it’s love interests, you can see where this shit is going. i’m hoping kitty ends up with yuri, but at the end of the day i know it’s gonna be min ho, and he was played so well and became such a likeable character that i don’t mind shipping it and that’s when the inner conflict is where it doesn’t change the fact that kitty might be bi or pan, but that netflix acknowledges is and still sets her up in a heteronormative society welcomed relationship instead of the one like Yuri’s pushing the boundaries of South Korea one step at a time with interracial love and lesbianism <3

Phil Dunster posted a video of the "inspiration" behind the bike scenes which was a clip with Simon Pegg who co-wrote the show, so maybe? VERY obscure if it is!

There were a few times in my life when music changed for me—what I responded to changed slowly over time, but yeah, there were definite infusions of NEW that veered off on paths maybe not so well-trodden, but that nonetheless stood out as touchstones in my ~~~dramatic half-whisper~~~ journey through 🎶MUSIC 🎼

1977: Heard the best of what’s now considered “classic rock” as it existed at the time, when it was just called “Rock” or “Heavy Metal” or “Prog.” Bands like Rush, Boston, Yes, Queen, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, that didn’t get a lot of airplay on the Top 40 stations I’d exclusively listened to. It was thrilling. I caught up on ten years of ignorance in like, 9 months. But I kinda missed out on punk because of that immersion, thanks to my new besties.

1982: Heard my first indie/alternative (“new wave” to some) music and fell hard. The Cure, The English Beat, Joy Division, Kim Wilde, Elvis Costello, U2, Talking Heads, etc. when we moved to Colorado. The availability of some truly esoteric indie music via the Boulder station KBCO was legendary. We had three or four stations in addition to that one! Spoiled! The eighties, man. R.E.M.!!! The music in the clubs was what was on the radio was what was on MTV—you couldn’t escape it, so this huge subset of the rock-listening population were all listening to the big hits at the same time. Madonna, Dire Straits, The Eurythmics, Prince, Duran Duran, Pretenders, Bon Jovi. EVERYBODY knew the hits of the eighties.

1991: Heard “Smells Like Teen Spirit” on the car radio driving through Austin, and both my companion and I were immediately silenced by that intro, and by the end, we were like “What just happened?” just in total delight/light shock…did he really just scream about a mulatto? Who talks like that in 1991, sir? But we just immediately knew this was gonna be huge, and it was, and then came grunge and grunge-lite for the rest of the decade. Soundgarden, STP, Bush, Incubus, Alice In Chains, Pearl Jam, Nirvana (for such a goddamned short time, it’s insane to look back and realize we had so few years with him!)

For some people, life is unbearable without having their consciousness altered in some way. Drugs being one of those ways.

2003: Heard “Caring Is Creepy” by The Shins on a 4-hour “New Alternative” loop XM Radio had handed out as a free trial. Those songs on that loop woke me up to the possibility of new sounds that hit that same place in me as the best of the 80’s and 90’s. I remember Doves “Pounding”, which was used in an episode of The Consultant on Amazon Prime just this week (I shrieked!), “Silver Spoon” by Bis, “Shapes” by The Long Winters, The Postal Service, Death Cab For Cutie…wish I could remember them all. Bruce Springsteen’s Magic album had a song that was my most played for a few years in the aughts—“Radio Nowhere”, which I first heard on that XM trial loop and loved so much I bought the whole album. On iTunes. Still have it. Saw Garden State, heard “Caring Is Creepy” on the soundtrack (again—i shrieked!), and “New Slang,” and fell for them even harder.

Now I listen to what I used to hate (classic rock), but my fairly narrow preference window means I don’t SAY I listen to classic rock, because except for YouTube, I only listen to Radiohead, some Tool, some Metallica most days.

My life is now just mainly Radiohead with a few dollops of all the songs I’ve loved before, from every decade that rock and roll has been rock and roll with ALL its subgenres, heavy on Tool and Metallica as of late.

I can’t even tell what popular music today even is. It all sounds like video game background to me.

I totally agree with you. I loved Keenler, and they FINALLY got them together, only to kill her off a few episodes later. Unforgiveable on the part of the writers. After they killed off Liz, I lost all my joy in the show. A show that I had lived and breathed for 8 years, had written tons of Keenler/Ressler fanfics about, and had willingly organized and participated in fandom events.

But all of that was destroyed in 822. Actually, it started when Megan took her 9 episode self imposed sabbatical, protesting her displeasure with the powers that be, or the network, or both. It was unbearable during those weeks. It didn't help that I lost so much respect for Megan during that time.

Like you, I now only watch the show for Ressler, but season 9 was very hard to watch. It wasn't enough that they killed off Liz (over their obvious falling out with Megan), but they jumped forward two years to distance themselves from 822 which I actually welcomed - until they then proceeded to make the entire season STILL about 822 and Liz's death.

I didn't mind the flashbacks to see how Ressler spiraled down, and where they had been since her death, but when they turned S9 into their crusade of making Red out to be completely innocent in her death, I was furious. Red got her killed, plain and simple. He was always the only one who brought danger into her life. So their making Marvin out to be the bad guy and completely destroying his character in the process made me so angry. And don't get me started on 'Agent' Dembe Zuma...

But I will continue to watch for Ressler, despite my misgivings with the direction the show has gone. I guess I can be thankful that Diego didn't suddenly announce he was leaving the show just like Amir and Laura. Though how much of that was the actor's choice and how much was network budget cuts, we may never know.

I guess we wait until January now for Season 10. But hiatus is not like it used to be. I used to hate this break, and count down the days until it returned and spend the months writing multi-chapter Ressler fanfics to tide me over. But not any more. Now I am almost thankful I don't have to watch what the show has become every week, compared to how great it was in the beginning. And that is sad.

[also the parallel between food being another acceptable desire and dean not being affected by famine bc he is simultaneously insatiable & not hungry at all]

any women dean was attracted to fell into the one-night stand category (temporary pleasure) or his framework of an “apple pie life” (retirement from hunting, a quiet peaceful life) such as lisa. the women that transcended these categories was simply written out of his narrative (cassie).

her incompatibility with his work means that his self-acceptance will lead to the deterioration of his entire lifestyle— further establishing the seeming impossibility of his wants. if he gives in to love, he’ll have to give up on everything he’s cosmically destined or paternally trained to be. it’s a tantalising prospect, but ultimately dean lives in a tragedy and no amount of banging on the glass walls can spin fate elsewhere.

his constant conflict between repression & rebellion challenges both his textual compulsory heterosexuality and his subsequent (and inherent) queerness. [to bring up the famine episode again] not only does dean have an unbearable desire for companionship, affection, safety, stability, balance (etc, etc, etc), but his shame & suppression have created a desire vortex rendering him empty.

I've gotta say, I find the concept of Bedlund trying to Ben-Hur Jensen absolutely hysterical. I'm just imagining Jensen getting a script and being like "Ben?? What's this? Is this gay? This seems gay????" and Ben just soothing him like a frightened horse.

Hahaha - Look it wouldn't be the first time. What is this verb we're working with? Okay. Strap in everyone. The Multi-Oscar-winning 1959 movie 'Ben Hur' had a bunch of gay subtext. The writer, the director, and the second lead actor all knew that Charlton Heston's character, Ben Hur, was gay. However, one person didn't find out until the 1990s: Charlton Heston. The consensus on set was "Don’t tell Charlton, because he’ll freak out." and when Heston found out in the ninties, freak out was exactly what he did. (x) [the movie may have gotten a reference from Misha back in season 6 (x)]

Whether this happened with Jensen on SPN depends on two things.

Was the character of Dean intentionally written as Bi and, if so, at what point did that become true?

Did anyone tell Jensen? Did he figure it out? if so, when?

I personally DO believe at this point, I really do, that Bedlund - Ben Hur'd Jensen. I think it was part of the writers room but not all of it, until it was. (Which RN I believe finally happened under Dabb.) I think Jensen wasn't in on it, until he was. So for me? I think he really was in the dark at one point. But at what point that changed? Probably only he can answer that question. and RN? He ain't talking.

In the meantime we can only look at things Jensen has said on the subject - Like this unbearably ambiguous GIF set from @nikadd. Was this tongue in cheek? Legitimate ignorance? What had changed if anything? the entire Crowely season 10 story line?  This was July 2015 - the same day as the SDCC 2015 panel where Misha talked about Destiel   (x @ 13) Carver and Dabb were there - 

By this time Jensen and Misha were nominated for a teen choice award for best chemistry against various tv couples (and one ensemble cast, but the award nomination did NOT include Jared) .... Misha and Jensen would go on to WIN this award one month after the panel.

At the Panel Rob and Rich ask the question: “You two have branded yourselves as TV’s greatest team since, ... idk who.... Ernie and Bert so.”  [Misha says to Jensen & Jared, half not on the microphone: “I really didn’t expect them to throw us under the bus.”] “are we going to see that continue? Is the Castiel Dean relationship still aflutter and still growing as we move into season 11?”  Jeremy Carver: “Ish.” [mocking from panel ensues] “Yes. Of course. I mean Yeah. Absolutely. Yeah. There’s no doubt.”

I would hope that if he knew he wouldn’t have been so harsh with it.  So by that point either he still didn’t know - OR - to him ‘Destiel’ was specifically about internet porn/sex and not like - the potential for feelings / a relationship.  It makes me think about something Misha had actually said, around 2013, “It’s called ‘Destiel’ and it’s about the romantic interludes between Dean and Castiel.” (x)

2017 - jib8 Jensen called Dean a lover of the ladies

May 2017 - After filming the end of season 12:

2018 - Misha confirms he and Jensen have talked about Destiel (x) - also 2018: The Bisexual Dean essay "? No." (Oh god was this really this recent?! I can't deal with this.)

Story Summary: Y/N wakes up in a nightmare. Is it her new reality, or can she figure out how to fix it. How can she get pack to her husband Jensen?

Jared excused himself for a phone call with his wife, leaving you in awkward silence with Jensen. You opened your mouth to speak, before deciding not to. Jensen kept rubbing the back of his neck, clearly as uncomfortable as you.

Finally, after the silence was unbearable, you gave in. “Can I ask you a question?”

“Yeah,” he answered, seeming slightly relieved that you had spoken first. Sinking down onto the low, cream-colored couch, his body was still tense as if he was waiting for the other bomb to drop. 

You carefully sat down across from him, wishing you could reach out and thread your fingers through his. To feel his strong arms wrapped tight around him, his voice deep as he told you everything would be okay.

“What’s the question?” He asked, pulling your attention back to this Jensen. The one who could barely look at you, and when he did it was with contempt.

“What happened between you, and the...real Y/N? I can tell something happened.”

His jaw clenched and he looked away for a moment. “Listen, it doesn’t matter. I can just tell you’re not her, and we need to figure out how to fix this. It makes me feel like I’m in an episode of Supernatural. Not just filming it.”

“Please, tell me,” you insisted. “I’d like to know.”

“Our Y/N, she’s gone through some troubling times,” he started slowly. “She’s been into drugs, alcohol. You name it, she’s probably tried it. She’s talented, but she lets things get in the way. We’ve tried to help her, but she’s so needy. And then, one night after a long night of filming, I came back to my trailer, and she was laying on my bed, completely nude. I tried dressing her in one of my shirts. Tried pushing her out the door, but her hands were everywhere. Then Dee walked in, and well...it took me almost a month before I was out of the dog house.”

You could see the hurt still in his eyes, the anger at being manhandled like that. His marriage had almost been ruined by your alter ego. It made sense why he was a little mad. “I’m so sorry. I promise I’m nothing like that.”

“I’m beginning to notice,” he answered. “But I think we need to keep moving. If Dee knows you’re here, things might not go well.”

Jared had just finished his phone call, coming back into the room. “Then why bring me here? I don’t want to cause any more trouble for you.”

“Gen was back,” he explained. “And I really didn’t want to explain you.”

“What the hell are we going to do?” You had no idea where to even start. “Do we travel up to Vancouver, and see if that changes anything?”

“It’s our best bet,” Jared agreed. “I can have my plane up and running in around an hour.”

He left again to make plans, and you sat there with Jensen nervously tapping your leg. “I can’t believe this is really happening,” he muttered. “And in your...version of the life, you’re married to me? But we both still work on Supernatural?”

“Yeah,” you answered. “Happily married. Jared’s both of our friends. And you and I...well we just getting ready to start the next chapter of our life together.” 

“Hey guys, have you heard?” Jared came rushing back into the living room, his phone in his hand and his eyes huge. “When I went to call for my plane, they said that all flights are grounded for right now. Because of the craziest electrical storm.”

“So we’re not going to Vancouver?” You asked, disappointed, wondering what was going to happen next.

“There’s more!” Jared insisted, handing the phone to Jensen, leaving you in suspense. “You’ll never guess where this storm happened.”

You quickly left your chair, sitting down beside Jensen, trying to ignore the way his leg tightened and he pulled away from you. You looked over his shoulder, seeing the article on the screen, your mouth dropping in disbelief. 

“No way. Lawrence Kansas. That has to be some sort of sign. Right?” You couldn’t believe it. Your life had been turned upside down, just like an episode of Supernatural. And now this freak storming was happening right above the birthplace of Sam and Dean Winchester. Things had to be connected. 

“I think instead of flying maybe we should be driving through Kansas. Maybe we can get some answers,” Jensen finally spoke up. “This all has to be related somehow.” 

“Roadtrip!” You all three exclaimed. “But first, some explaining to the wives,” Jared sighed. “We’ll leave in five.”

You anxiously waited outside by Jensen’s SUV, and soon enough both men exited the garage, a duffle bag in Jensen’s hand. You sat in the backseat, letting both men sit upfront. Staring out the window as they talked quietly, you couldn’t help but wonder. Is this what had turned your life upside down? A freak storm. And maybe, heading to Kansas would get you back to your life. And your Jensen. 

“You okay back there Y/N?” Jared asked, more comfortable around you than Jensen. “At least we have a lead.”

“Yeah,” you answered, yawning. “How far is the drive?”

Jensen was the one to answer this time. “9 hours or so. Why don’t you try to get some sleep.”

You didn’t have to be told twice. Stretching out in the roomy backseat of his SUV, you nestled your head against the window. Closing your eyes, you let your mind relax. This day had been nothing but traumatic, and you were exhausted.

“Y/N wake up,” Jared gently shook your shoulder, waking you up. “We’re stopped for food and gas. Now’s the time to use the bathroom.”

He left the door open, and you slowly climbed out of the car, yawning and stretching as you did so. The brilliant blue sky had long since darkened to a deep teal, and you wondered exactly how long you had slept. 

“We’re not stopping for dinner so I suggest getting enough snacks to tide you over,” Jensen startled you. He was leaning against the side of the SUV, waiting as it slowly filled up. 

Before heading inside to take care of business, you stayed beside him, enjoying the cool night air. “How far are we away?”

“Another three hours maybe,” he answered. “It won’t be too long now. But please don’t be too disappointed if this Lawrence thing doesn’t work out.” 

“I’m just grateful for you, and Jared, for helping me out. You could have just thrown me out, let me fend for myself,” you awkwardly patted his shoulder, wishing he was yours. At least for a moment so you could feel his arms around you. Holding back tears as your heart ached to be home, you rounded the SUV, heading into the small convenience store. 

After using the restroom, you piled your arms full of snacks. Things for you, along with a couple of items for Jensen in case he didn’t make his way inside. Jared paid for the snacks, and you followed him outside. Silently climbing in the back of the SUV, you couldn’t help but feel your nerves start to rise as you Lawrence grew ever closer.

Wrong Words

Hi there! I will talk in this meta about miscommunication, but mostly, about how Dean can't use the right words with CAS, which had been always our struggle as fans hahaahhaa.

Let's start this!

Fire and Fear

At the beginning of episode 13x14 'Good Intentions' we have Jack being manipulated by Zachary . The angel uses the fear to try to get some info from Jack's head.

Fear is the same tool Michael will use to try to break Dean, but it won't work just like I'd doesn't work with Jack.

Another interesting dialogue piece that shows us what Chuck appearance will mean in season 14 and 15 is the following...

CASTIEL: I wanted you to see the natural world before… before it was spoiled. Humans have good intentions, but… they never truly appreciated the gift they were given. Left to their own devices, humans… they would destroy everything.

This is fake Castiel in Jack's head and it's the way writers link AU!Michael with Chuck. It's the same thing like say HUMANS DON'T PLAY THEIR ROLES AS THEY SHOULD. DOESN'T FOLLOW THE PLAN. It will be the final plot of season 15. It speaks about how Michael and Chuck see the free will as something dangerous and destructive for their plans.

Two Hearts and the Wrong Words

The hearts of Gog and Magog was the fake ingredient Donnie asked for the spell.

DEAN: Okay, so we’re supposed to find these guys and cut out their hearts? How?

The symbolism of cutting hearts are linked to the incoming Destiel break up that will start in season 14 and then will find its climax in season 15.

When Donatello mentions that it will be dangerous... This is what happens...

CASTIEL: Then I’ll do it.

DEAN: I’ll go with you.

Dean won't let nothing bad happen to his angel. That's a fact that repeats all along in this season. Dean trying to protect Cas from danger. Dean going with him everywhere. Dean trying to get a bullet for his angel, as we will hear from him in Scoobynatural.

Then... The wrong words...

Pay attention to this dialogue here...

DEAN: How are you holdin’ up, Cas?

CASTIEL: I’m fine.

DEAN: No, I just mean with, you know, everything you’ve been through. And… I know you really wanna find Lucifer.

Dean is trying to find out how Cas feels, this is a very nice gesture from him, but also, he is worried about how CAS could feel after being kidnapped, he just wants to talk about that, because it's a heavy weight he carries, the guilt of not seeing Asmodeus was playing him. So he feels he failed him. Plus the fact that Cas had been dead, knowing that had been a blast in Dean's life... But at the same time, Dean tries to avoid that topic which is, the elephant in the room. But CAS will direct his answer to that elephant...

CASTIEL: No, it’s not that. It’s about… well, it is that, but it’s also I… Dean I was—I was dead.

DEAN: Temporarily.

Here is again Dean trying to avoid the topic as if it never happened or if as it was nothing. Is his way to avoid it, to keep going. Because the memory of it is too painful. And because it's still a knife in his heart. It's part of his most horrible fears. To lose Castiel again, unbearable. So, it's better not give it too much attention. 'Temporally' as 'It was nothing, it was just for a few days, we are fine, don't talk about it.'

But Castiel insists...

CASTIEL: And I have to believe I was brought back for a reason.

Cas feels that he came back and nothing had changed. Because they didn't speak about it. Because he doesn't know if Dean missed him. He knows Sam and Dean need him for battle. But, he has to find something else in this. There's something else. And he feels maybe is Dean the one who has to say it. Something. Something that gives him a more deep meaning. But Dean can't speak about it. Dean can't recall the pain. Dean can't express what is in his heart... So he shifts the backpack, avoids eye contact and lies, he just go with his usual avoiding self, and gives the "FAMILY NEEDED YOU" NEED vs WANT again. WE instead of I/Me.

DEAN: You were. Okay, Jack brought you back because we needed you back.

CASTIEL: Right. And how have I repaid him? I promised his mother that I would protect him, but now he’s trapped in that place while Lucifer is here, who’s… I mean, he’s getting stronger and more powerful by the day. And if Michael really is coming, maybe I was brought back to help prepare.

Castiel doesn't find a propose in Dean's words, doesn't find what he's looking for from him. The 'Right' is dated with disappoinment in his eyes, with sadness, looking at the man he loves. The unrequited love strikes again. So he changes to Jack, if Jack needs him, he will be there. Soldier Mode and the mission and the promise to Kelly come to his rescue. Castiel changes to soldier mode again.

DEAN: Prepare for what?

CASTIEL: War. War is what Michael does.

If there's nothing else there for him, then there's his mission. The war. That will be his porpoise. And Dean's words will be what Cas will have in his mind the rest of the season.

DEAN: Well, then we do what we do. Whatever it takes.

After this, we have their fight with Gog and Magog, but first, let's see this dialogue over here, it seems something fun and married couple thing, but it has a very deep meaning, according to what we were talking about so far.

DEAN: Well, Enochian’s kinda tough. Maybe you got a word wrong.

CASTIEL: I don’t get “words wrong.”’

Castiel says this with annoyance. Why? Because he tries to transmit a second message behind his words. How could Cas use his first language wrong? It's impossible. But is not impossible to Dean to use his wrong words even using his first language. Cas knows Dean didn't say what Castiel needed to hear from him. I don't get my words wrong, but you do. I always say what is in my heart, you don't.

We had some fan service when Gog and Magog called Dean and Cas beautiful.

'They are equally pretty.'

Is something all the fandom knows hahahhahaa.

Another foreshadow and Castiel soldier mode

When Michael decides to bring Jack with Mary, Mary recognizes why he did it.

MARY: He’s not gonna hurt you, Jack. He’s gonna hurt me. Why do you think he brought you here? So that we would meet, so that we would talk. And then when he comes back, if you don’t do what he wants, he’s going to kill me.

This is what Michael will try with Dean too. Once Michael will left Dean's body in 14x02, as an attempt to make him believe he was free, with his family. Giving him fake hopes, that's the way Michael will try to really break him. That's why he did this with Jack.

Do you remember when Dean used his wrong words with Castiel and he switched into soldier mode??

SAM: What are you doing?

[CASTIEL walks down the hallway towards where DONATELLO is. SAM and DEAN follow him.]

CASTIEL: What I have to.

He will fried Donnie's brains to get some info, after the boys tell him Donatello doesn't have a soul and after Donnie used a spell that almost drowned Dean. (Dean drowning was another foreshadow for his possesion, is how he described to Sam how felt to be possesed the first time.)

CASTIEL: I’m sorry, but I’m not going to let you or anyone hurt the people I love. Not again.

Castiel's reaction was drastic after Donnie attacked Dean. He didn't do this after knowing Donni had attacked Sam, even if Sam is parto of THE PEOPLE CAS LOVE. But his violent reaction is linked directly to Dean almost drowing.

DEAN: Yeah, but who gets to make that choice? You? What exactly gives you the right?

CASTIEL: Nothing. I took it. And if I hadn’t acted, we would still be sitting around and talking about what to do next. We would be wasting time. And it’s time we don’t have, Dean. I told you, war is coming. War. And I did what soldiers do. Now we needed the spell to open the rift, and I got it.

The words whatever it takes is resonating in Cas' head. He is focused again, as a soldier should be, focused in war, in the mission. Dean allowed that.

To Conclude:

This episode showed us a couple of more foreshadows for Michael!Dean but it also talked about the 'wrong words' and 'misscommunication'.

How the wrong words made Cas to turn into his soldier mode, and that's the mode will last until the end of the season.
