im MONTHS late to making good on this promise but !! i'm excited to try something different for a DTIYS challenge: a colour this in your style! all the rules and links to access the full pieces will be under the cut :)
rules:
1. no deadline, no due date. take as much time as you wish, and you can colour one, two, or all of them :)
2. i contemplated adding a designated colour palette to each of their designs (since these are based off an au), but i honestly think it's more fun to see the combinations people choose instead. there are basic themes for them (lizzie=chaos, gem=nature/life, cleo=decay/death, and pearl=stars), but go apeshit
3. please tag me AND/OR use the tag #thellodtiys on ur posts. i lurk on twitter/ig so you can use it there too!
click here to access the google drive folder containing the CSP, PSD, and Procreate files . there’s also like. PNGs in there too
thats pretty much it :) the rest is up to you. ive been marinating on the idea of a colouring book zine for the past few months, so this is my soft-launch to see how it goes. i cant express the gratitude i feel towards the kindness this community has shown me, and making content with these silly block women has been an unexpected source of joy in my life. to know that people enjoy my works is simply put, a treasure on its own. ty :^)

The Best News of Last Week - June 26, 2023
1. California's Lake Oroville now at 100% capacity following megadrought; 1st time since 2019
Tumblr media
Once a stark example of the drastic effects of California's yearslong megadrought, Lake Oroville has rebounded and is once again filled to capacity, data from the state's Department of Water Resources shows.
Lake Oroville, the state's most beleaguered and second-largest reservoir, is at 100% of its total capacity and 127% of where it should be around this time of year - a huge boost after the climate-change-fueled megadrought sucked away nearly all its water supply.
2. Blue whales are thriving in California waters – the story of their amazing comeback
Tumblr media
If you’ve recently taken a Southern California whale-watching tour, you may have been lucky enough to come across earth’s largest animal. Pacific blue whales grow up to 110 feet long and can reach a weight of 200 tons. Decades ago, blue whales were nearly hunted to extinction, and although still listed as protected under the Endangered Species Act, marine biologists and researchers are heralding a “conservation success story,” unlike any other.
According to a study published in 2014 by researchers at the University of Washington, the West Coast blue whale population has bounced back at tremendous levels, recouping 97% of its pre-whaling population
3. Newborn left in Florida Safe Haven Baby Box adopted by the firefighter who found her
Tumblr media
Zoey is now 5 months old. Courtesy Zoey's family
A firefighter in Ocala, Florida, was pulling an overnight shift at the station in January when he was awakened at 2 a.m. by an alarm. He recognized the sound immediately. A newborn had been placed in the building’s Safe Haven Baby Box, a device that allows someone to safely and anonymously surrender a child — no questions asked.
“To be honest, I thought it was a false alarm,” said the firefighter, who wished to remain anonymous to protect his family’s privacy. But when he opened the box, he discovered a healthy infant wrapped in a pink blanket.
That baby would become his daughter, Zoey.
4. Iceland suspends whale hunt on animal welfare concerns
Tumblr media
Iceland's government said Tuesday it was suspending this year's whale hunt until the end of August due to animal welfare concerns, likely bringing the controversial practice to a historic end.
"I have taken the decision to suspend whaling" until August 31, Food Minister Svandis Svavarsdottir said in a statement. The country's last remaining whaling company, Hvalur, had previously said this would be its final season as the hunt has become less profitable.
5. He wanted to pet dogs for his 100th birthday. Hundreds lined up.
Tumblr media
Alison Moore had a unique idea to celebrate her father's 100th birthday: a pet parade filled with as many dogs as possible. Her father, Robert Moore, has always adored dogs and wanted to pet every one he saw. So, Alison took to social media and invited the community to join in the festivities. Little did she know that over 200 dogs and their owners would gather for the heartwarming event.
The parade brought immense joy not only to Robert but also to attendees like Rodger, who has Alzheimer's disease, and his daughter Denise, who hadn't seen her father smile so much in a long time. It was a day filled with wagging tails, smiling faces, and love that made Robert's milestone birthday an unforgettable celebration.
6. Historic decision: Estonia legalizes same-sex marriage
Tumblr media
Tuesday, the Estonian government has survived a vote of no confidence in the Riigikogu tied to amendments to the Family Law Act and related legislation, which is granting same-sex couples the legal right to wed. 55 members of the Riigikogu voted in favor of the measure, while 34 voted against.
It is proposed that the institution of marriage, as defined by family law, be modified so that  any two natural persons of legal age, regardless of gender, may marry. The words "man and woman" will be replaced with the words "two natural persons."
7. US approves chicken made from cultivated cells, the nation's first 'lab-grown' meat
Tumblr media
For the first time, U.S. regulators on Wednesday approved the sale of chicken made from animal cells, allowing two California companies to offer “lab-grown” meat to the nation’s restaurant tables and eventually, supermarket shelves.
The Agriculture Department gave the green light to Upside Foods and Good Meat, firms that had been racing to be the first in the U.S. to sell meat that doesn’t come from slaughtered animals — what’s now being referred to as “cell-cultivated” or “cultured” meat as it emerges from the laboratory and arrives on dinner plates.

Headcanon: OP men being vulnerable little babes in relationships
-> there's a part 2 now with Sanji and smoker
SFW fluff headcanon for Law and Zoro: Vulnerable and cute behaviours in an established relationship
Like this one? Check out my headcanon masterlist
Law
Asks you multiple times a day if you still love him and is visibly relieved when you say yes
Is very interested in your opinions on his style and changes outfit if he doesn't feel sexy enough
Will infodump medical knowledge randomly just to talk to you
Loves to sleep cuddled up against your chest and likes being held tightly. He loves little kisses all over his hair and face.
Is working on matching partner tattoos but never feels like it's perfect enough to show you
His mind often wanders to plans of your future together. He wants Bepo, Shachi and Senguin to be there, too.
When he got beaten up badly and you took care of him for the first time, his eyes got a little wet but he insisted it was because of the pain
He baked you a great cake for your birthday. To make sure he got it right the crew ate cake with fresh strawberries on top and whipped cream for months. He made them rate the cake by flavour, consistency, presentation and digestibility repeatedly
When you were excited about seeing his coin collection, he knew you where the one
He loves showing you his creative ideas and through your support, he begins expressing himself in more ways than his jolly roger and reorganizing marine soldiers' bodies
Zoro
He was a loner once, and he still doesn't like many people, but he wants you to be near him whenever possible. You are his shield against the world
During the day, he just randomly wanders in, sits down next to you and falls asleep
When he's been drinking he drags you around to show everyone his partner. Even the thousand sunny crew that already knows you.
He never cared about being sweaty and stinky until you began sharing a bed. Now he washes every evening to smell good for you. He even asked Sanji about what cologne to use. He will never live that down.
He has this dream where he gets lost and never finds you again. He wakes up drenched in sweat. He is thinking about chaining himself to you so that you never get separated. It's not important where the two of you are - it's important that you are together.
If he can, he takes on any danger to help and protect you - or just to make your life more comfortable. He never talks about it though. You never let on that you know it happened, again. He still gets a backrub for it.
He doesn't care if he gets lost as long he knows where you are. In fact, he can follow you easily and even follow your instructions most of the time.
He wrote a poem about how you are like his swords. It's genuinely bad and he knows it, but he showed it to you when he was really drunk. When he saw that you pinned it to your wall he almost cried. Of course he didn't, there was just something in his eye. All day. Stupid dust!
Now that you've read the whole thing let me know in the comments if you liked it ⬇️

Yandere Zoro, Mihawk, Aokiji, Akinu, Rob Lucci and Shanks with F!Yoriichi Reader please? (Garp found her right after she ran away from home and took her in as his Granddaughter, where she grew up and bonded with her brothers Luffy, Ace and Sabo)
Garp brought her with him to become a Marine (She raised in the ranks rapidly and became a Vice Admiral in just a short span of 2 months, with her being considered a ‘Prodigy’ and even the ‘Pride’ of the Marines)
Garp is so proud of Reader because she raised in the ranks from her own hard work and effort, just like her Grandpa! (He would absolutely fist fight anyone who thinks she used her family relationship with Garp to raise so quickly in the ranks)
Sengoku was reasonably horrified when Garp brought one of his family members to become a Marine (He felt grey hairs take root on the thought of a ‘Garp 2.0’) though Sengoku did a double take when he met Reader since she’s… the complete OPPOSITE of Garp (As in, she’s respectful, responsible, calm and willing to get her work done)
Reader is highly respected and admired by a lot of the Marines, since she’s not just strong, but humble and helpful to everyone, even if they’re below her in rank and power (She definitely has a few Fan Clubs) but it’s Coby and Tashigi who admire her the most and have a tendency to chatter around her constantly (Which they get yelled at by others to not ‘disturb’ Reader, but she tells them it’s fine and she likes hearing them talk to her)
Garp and Reader get along, as Reader doesn’t mind her Grandfather being loud, silly or eccentric and Garp doesn’t mind if Reader doesn’t talk much nor is she expressive with her emotions, since he can always tell what she’s feeling (Though he’s protective over her, especially when it’s obvious a lot of guys are in love with her, he’s NOT having it!!)
She started a fight with Lucci (She was angry at his disregard for Human Life) and proceeded to beat him without him landing a single scratch on her
She also got in a fight with Mihawk (He wanted to see her skills in person) and it ended in a draw (He’s impressed and wants to fight her again)
-When you found yourself in a new world, one where the sea was the focus of everything, marines and pirates fighting each other at every turn, you weren’t sure what you were going to do- knowing nothing about this world.
-Being a child, you didn’t know where to go, but luckily, there was someone watching out for you, Garp- who immediately adopted you, seeing you, a child, alone.
-You grew up alongside Luffy, Ace, and Sabo, the three of them adopting you as their sister, but like those three, who wanted to be pirates, you liked the idea of being a marine, like Garp, like the man who saved you.
-Garp, of course, quickly deemed you as the favorite, and he brought you in as a new recruit once you were old enough.
-To others, the training boot camp was hellish, but you made everything look so easy! Anything you did you made it look effortless and once you had a sword in your hands, it was like everything clicked together and you quickly rose in not only power but rank.
-Everyone was stunned, seeing how hard you were working and how quickly you rose in the ranks, seeing it was hard work, as when everyone found out that you were Garp’s granddaughter, a few were curious, wanting to know if it was nepotism, but Garp was quick to punch out anyone who would even suggest that!
-How dare they think his grandbaby is a nepo-baby! You did everything yourself, proving yourself as a true marine and many were quickly admiring you.
-You had heard rumors, but you didn’t know if they were true or not, that there was at least three different fan clubs for you, with one of them being pirate based, as they loved to see you in combat, many saying that they wouldn’t mind being captured if you were the one to do it.
-When you achieved the highest rank you could, at the moment, becoming a rear admiral in just under six months, there were a lot of people talking about you, curious about your strength and skills, wanting to test them out.
-Sengoku was less than thrilled, hearing that a grandchild of Garp had joined the marines, his hair immediately starting to turn gray from the stress, thinking that you were just like he was.
-When you entered Sengoku’s office alongside Garp, he instantly froze, you looked so serious! It was like you were the exact opposite of Garp and he immediately took a shine to you, seeing that you were a hard worker and took your duties seriously- you were an angel on earth to him!!
-You preferred to work alone or with Garp, as you felt like others slowed you down, so if you went out on a ship, it was Garp’s ship, otherwise you would travel alone on a Wave Rider.
-Many thought your level-headed coolness paired with your soft-spoken nature and take-no-shit attitude was very attractive, and most men would melt if you would scold or talk down to them, marine or pirate.
-You were a little dense, unsure of why they liked your cold personality, Garp knew however, and he was ready to make heads roll to protect his favorite grandchild, even when you could defend yourself.
-Aokiji and Akinu both liked you, finding you to be the perfect woman, Akinu because you followed orders, were a hell of a swordswoman, but still had a heart of gold, while Aokiji was part of one of your fan clubs, loving your cold nature paired with your attractive looks. Aokiji constantly flirted with you, and he adored it that you didn’t seem to realize it half the time.
-Lucci is another one who liked you, however, unlike the two admirals, whom you didn’t mind, you didn’t like Lucci- you found him too brutal. When you fought, you always fought to end the fight as quickly as possible, not dragging out the suffering of others like Lucci.
-Lucci found you very desirable, finding you strong, worthy to be by his side and him by your side, he just didn’t understand why you were so cold to him, colder than normal.
-You told him that you didn’t like how he fought, bringing others so much unnecessary pain, but to him, he was just stamping out those who weren’t worthy- those who were weak.
-Between doing paperwork, going out with Garp, and capturing pirates, you did have one little habit, one that Garp turned a blind eye too- you loved to fight against strong opponents.
-You would sneak away, when you didn’t have any missions or paperwork, and seek out strong warriors, to test your own strength against them. You only arrested them if you were able to beat them, but if they were able hold their own against you- you would just leave.
-This little hobby of yours, however, has gained you a few more admirers, as they all loved seeing how strong you were.
-Zoro was a frequent opponent, as it gave you the excuse to visit Luffy, who, unlike when Garp would visit, he would run over to you and hug you close, much to the anger of Sanji and Brook, seeing Luffy hug such a vision of a woman.
-After seeing your brother, you would always fight Zoro to a draw, him using his own skills and training from Mihawk and you with your natural talent and Sun Breathing.
-Afterwards you would always stay for dinner, much to the glee of Sanji who would flirt with you and Zoro would always get into a fight with him- more brutal than normal. Nami and Robin couldn’t help but think it was cute to see Zoro being so jealous.
-The reason you were able to fight Zoro to a draw every time is because you fought Mihawk quite often, something he welcomed as you were the only person that could challenge him.
-You always wrote ahead, sending a bottle of wine with your challenge and he would always meet you by the docks to escort you, being a gentleman.
-At first, Mihawk would always best you- being insanely strong, but as you grew in strength, learning from your fights, you were soon fighting him to a draw nine times out of ten, something he loved- encouraging you- he wanted you to beat him.
-After the fight, Mihawk would always invite you to share the wine you had sent, taking you to the gardens he had been carefully tended to, filling them with beautiful flowers, as he had seen you admiring flowers, and he loved to see you looking so happy, if it’s looking at flowers and enjoying wine with him or fighting him, you always looked so beautiful with a smile on your lips- he just wanted you to smile for him and only him.
-The last person you sought out quite often was Shanks- after you realized that he was insanely strong, despite only having one arm.
-Shanks was shameless with his flirting with you- flirting even while the two of you were fighting each other, but he wouldn’t beat around the bush, like some of the others who would flirt with you- he was very up front about it, and seeing your red cheeks, seeing you embarrassed- brought him joy every single time.
-After your fight he would always invite you to drink and celebrate with his crew, sometimes you would accept, and you learned that he was a lightweight, but loved to drink, and you found it amusing that he still talked so much game before passing out, something Benn loved giving him crap for.
-It was unusual, being chased after by so many men, marines, government officials, and pirates, and they all wanted you for themselves, finding you the perfect partner- you were everything to them and they wanted to be your everything.
-Too bad you weren’t really interested in a relationship at the moment- you just wanted to fight strong people and see more of the world and occasionally see your brothers.
-When Garp found out how many people were vying for your affections- grandpa wasn’t happy and he was ready to make some heads roll to keep his only precious granddaughter safe.

Tumblr media
You’re awoken in the (very) early hours of the morning a few months later when you’re back at Loguetown. The transponder snail that sits beside your bed feels like it’s screaming in your ear and you groan into your pillow.
‘Hello?’
The voice on the other side comes over clearly, and you’re almost motivated to hang up right then and go back to sleep.
‘Hey sleepyhead.’ Ace laughs quietly. ‘I’m surprised you picked up. Did I wake you up?’
‘No.’ You lie through your teeth, rolling in your bed. ‘I was just walking my fish.’
‘Oh. That’s good… Have you missed me?’
You’re silent on your end of the line, and you can hear Ace’s smile drop.
‘Ace? How did you get my number? It’s private.’
You hear his laugh crackle over and it warms your heart a little.
‘Don’t worry about that. I just need you to come into town. To that bar we met at last time.’
‘The Smog Cutter? That place has been closed for a few months. It’s all abandoned now.’
‘I know, but I really need you to meet me there. Please.’
You groan again, weighing out your options before inevitably agreeing.
You don’t bother properly changing into clothes. Instead you just throw a shirt over your bra and shorts before running out of the house and into the township.
Ace is standing outside of the Smog Cutter. You hadn’t lied when you said it was closed and abandoned. The paint that used to decorate the front of the building had long since peeled off, and you could barely read the name of the place.
‘So that’s where you live?’ Ace said, looking at where you’d come from.
You’re out of breath when you reach him, but you stand up straight with your hands on your hips.
‘Well yeah. It’s the Vice-Admirals house aswell.’
‘They do live well, don’t they?’ He scoffed. You give him a sideways look as you both walk into the empty tavern.
‘Did you just call me out here to make comments on my lifestyle or what?’
‘…I missed you.’ His smile stretched and you’re met with piercing blue eyes looking straight at yours. ‘And I wanted to talk to you.’
You freeze for a second before giving him a “are you fucking serious” look.
‘Why would you “miss me”?’ You ask, sitting on one of the counter stools.
‘Because you’re special. You could’ve turned me in at any point, but you didn’t. You’ve talked to me. And the second time we met, you drank with me and made me laugh. And we’ll forget about the 3rd because that was a little messy, but besides the point. But the point is you’re special and i can’t get you out of my head.’
You listen to him closely, finally breaking a soft laugh at the end.
‘Careful, Fire Fist. You’re making it sound like you’re in love with me.’ He blushes and looks away, and you realise at that moment what he’s trying to say. ‘Oh. Oh.’
‘What on earth do you mean “Oh”?! I just poured my heart out to you and your reply is “Oh”?’
‘It’s an “Oh”, as in “Oh. The Vice-Admiral's daughter was correct in thinking that Portgas D. Ace did in fact want to take advantage of a 17 year old girl that night.’
‘Well, duh. But that only because you said-‘
‘Oh just the fuck up.’ You grinned, grabbing his chin and pressing your lips together chastely.
It takes Ace a minute to register before he relaxes into the kiss, being quick to add more fervour. You wrap your arms around his neck and he steps off his own seat and stands between your legs. He wraps his own arms around your waist, pulling you closer as he continues to return your kiss passionately.
‘This is stupid.’ He whispers, trying to pull back from the kiss slightly. ‘We should stop. You have no idea how much trouble you’ll get in if we’re caught.’ He smirks, knowing he’s about to get a reaction.
‘Oh. But my warnings for the past 3 years have been ignored? Seems a little unfair.’ He chuckles and rolls his eyes.
‘Fine. But I’m being serious. This is dangerous. What happens if your dad finds out?’
‘He just won’t find out.’ You’re quick to reply, and even quicker to lean back into the rejoicing your mouths. Ace grins, pulling you impossibly closer. You take the opportunity to deepen the kiss. 3 years seems long enough for a starved man. He sighs into your mouth, pulling back to see your slightly dishevelled look.
‘You look so beautiful right now.’
You smile, lightly nipping at his jawline.
‘I want you so bad, Portgas D. Ace.’
He brings a hand to the back of your head, guiding your face back up to meet his lips. He bites down on your bottom lip, inciting a moan from you.
‘That’s not helping. I’m gonna go crazy if we keep doing this.’ He groaned, leaning over you so your back was pressed against the counter, one hand holding him up. ‘But god, do I love you so much. I’m gonna marry you someday.’
‘A bold statement.’ You whisper as he begins to explore your neck and collar. ‘Especially to make to the Vice-Admiral’s daughter.’
He grins and nods.
‘Well, you know me, princess. I like to take risks.’ He winks, coming back up to capture your lips once again. Sweet noises drip from your mouth and they all go to Ace’s dick as he slowly grinds his hips against yours. His free hand moves from your hip down to your ass, grabbing at the clothed muscle. Your own hands run up his forearms, then down his torso til they’re resting just above the waistband of his shorts. Teasingly, you grab his belt, holding him like he isn’t as close as possible.
‘Cheeky.’ He hisses, littering kisses over your shoulders. ‘Don’t make me fuck you in an abandoned bar.’
‘It’d be awfully fitting though, wouldn’t it?’ For once, it’s your voice that drops to a seductive tone. Ace groans lustfully, pressing his forehead against your skin. You bring your hand up to pull on the hair on the back of his neck. ‘Come on, Ace. Please fuck me in the bar.’
He feels himself fold right there and then. All sense of dignity fell out of him faster than he dropped to his knees for you.
‘You’re gonna be the death of me.’ He sighed, kissing your stomach. Wanted hands followed slowly after him, tracing the bumps of your spine. He kissed each of your thighs, biting lightly then smoothing the wound, littering your skin in love bites.
Your back’s digging into the counter as he decorated your body, even with your arms keeping you stable. Calloused fingertips trace your inner thighs, parting them slightly. Black eyes meet yours, the pirate leaning back to look at you.
‘You’re so hot from down here.’ He coos, resting his chin on your stomach.
‘I could say the same about you.’ Your hand finds its way to his face, caressing his cheek. ‘You look good on your knees.’
A fire lights in him, hotter than the one already there. You’re so unbelievably attractive, and he can’t even begin to process how he’d come to be blessed enough to get you.
Your thighs are once again littered in kisses, marks all along your inner skin. Your lips are slightly parted as he gets closer to your core. The only thing obstructing him is your thin pajama shorts. Your eyes met again and neither of you need to speak to know what he’s asking. You nod, holding your breath as your soft, pink folds are exposed. The hand on his cheek moves to his hair, running your fingers through his soft black strands. His eyes don’t leave yours as he takes the final step, his tongue flicking out to taste you for the first time. You gasp, mouth open and your head back. Ace smirks, lapping at your folds, then slipped a finger inside you, watching your wetness already coat his digit.
‘Ah fuck.’ You moan lowly, harshly massaging your breast through your top while the other tugs at his hair. A groan from Ace sends vibrations to your clit, stimulating your core. He smirks against your cunt as he thrusts his fingers deeper into you, finding your sweet spot. You’re a whimpering mess in a matter of minutes, and you can feel your legs threatening to buckle beneath you. As if he can tell, Ace adds another finger, stretching you more as he thrusts increasingly deeper and eats you out.
‘A-Ace.’ You cry, tears threatening to spill. ‘I’m gonna cum.’
You’re holding his hair so tight you’re sure you’d have pulled some out by now, but it’s the last of your worries. His grin grows wider, feeling you pulsating around his fingers increasing his own arousal.
‘Cum for me, baby.’
Euphoria washes over you by his command, eyes squeezed shut and head thrown back.
Touching yourself for the past 3 years had surficed, but this was by far the most intense orgasm you’d spent in your entire life, and all it took was Ace’s mouth and fingers.
Ace continued to lap at your folds, tasting and milking you through while you shake and shudder in pleasure.
‘Are you alright?’ You nod slowly, taking a moment to look down at him while you struggle to stay up. He chuckles softly, pulling back to look at you. ‘Quite the climax, aye?’
‘Shut up.’ You pant, pulling him up to his feet so you can kiss him again. You cringe slightly at the taste of yourself on his lips, but it’s so hot that you ignore it. As you’re making out, you run your hand down his torso, letting your fingers drag over his abs, then past his belt til you’re delicately palming his erect cock. He groans into your kiss, his body already trembling slightly from both your touch, and the adrenaline.
‘You don’t have to if you don’t want to.’ He whispered, holding your wrist. You’re quick to shake your head, pulling away. His hair is messier than usual, and he looks absolutely divine like this.
‘That wouldn’t be fair.’ You pouted, putting on a sad girl act. You hold his shoulder and turn you both around so it’s now his back pressed against the counter. ‘Plus, you mustn’t think I love you enough if you think I’m going to wait another 4 months to give you head.’
His gaze is one of surprise, but then a soft smile emerges.
‘You think I’m gonna disappear again?’
Your foreheads are pressed together, and you slowly begin to stroke his dick, watching his breathing change.
‘Please don’t lie to me and say you won’t.’
He laughs lowly, hands finding your hips.
‘I promise I won’t leave. Not now that I have you. Do you trust me?’
‘No.’ Your reply is plain and harsh, but yours holds more truth than his. ‘You’re a pirate, Ace. You’ll need to leave whether you want to or not.’
He shrugs, pressing a chaste kiss to your lips and holding your gaze.
‘True. But I meant more in the long run. I’m not going to leave you if you’ll be mine.’ He feels your smile against his lips, and it makes his heart flutter. You peck then quickly before lowering yourself to his knees.
‘I’ve been yours since Day 1, Fire Fist Ace.’
A shallow gasp escapes as Ace’s breath hitches, focused on your movements as you undress him. You’re working slowly, teasing him as you pull him free of his shorts. His hands slide round your face to your scalp, holding your hair back in a makeshift ponytail. A hum escapes at the slight tug. Eyes lock as your tongue pokes out in kitten licks against his tip. His reactions makes your insides giggle. His eyes roll back and his hands shake, hips leaning forward at your subtle touch.
‘You’re so sensitive, baby.’ You tease, peppering kisses down the length of his shaft. He just groans as you moan, your hand wrapped around him to pump rhythmically.
‘That’s because-‘ He’s cut off temporarily by a squeeze to his base and your lips pressed to his tip.
‘Because what-‘ You whisper, finally letting his cock slide into your mouth.
He shakes his head quickly, taking a deep breath to try to steady himself.
‘Because I’ve been avoiding other women since I saw you.’ A moan fills the bar, his dick plummeting deep into your throat. Your face lights up and you feel your heart melting at his confession. With an internal smile. you quicken your pace, stroking where your mouth can’t reach. Your other hand rests on his thigh, running your hands along the skin to keep him calm.
His fingers are digging into your scalp, holding your hair tightly as his hips involuntarily thrust forwards to meet your rhythm.
‘Oh fuck… I’m yours.’
You can hear your own muffled moans bouncing off the walls, and you should probably be concerned about who else can hear them. But that doesn’t matter when your boyfriend that you aren’t going to see for another long while is with you.
Ace’s breath becomes ragged, his other hand coming down to your cheek.
‘You feel so good, princess.’ He releases a long, low moan, his climax shuddering through his body. Your gag reflex kicks in as the fluid shoots down your throat, but you swallow it nonetheless. Common courtesy as he’d done the same for you. He’s shuddering in pleasure and relief while you milk him through, not releasing him until you’re sure he’s done.
You laugh quietly to yourself, pressing a few kisses to his thighs before standing and kissing him softly.
‘Are you still alive?’ You whisper, holding his waist. He gasps, heart racing and shaking, but nods.
‘Yeah… I’m alive.’
‘Good.’ You reply, pressing your foreheads together. ‘Do you need anything?’
‘Maybe water in a minute.’ He laughs, his breathing slowly returning to normal.
‘Mkay.’ You hum. ‘You lie down in one of the booths and I’ll get you a drink of water, ok?’
A weak attempt of helping him to the seat is made before you’re running off to the abandoned kitchen to look for cups. Ace’s eyes follow you as you run, filled with love and gratitude. You’re back in only a matter of seconds, 2 glasses of cold water in hand. You help him drink some of his water before taking a sip of yours and laying beside him.
‘Better?’ You ask, watching his carefully while love clouds your vision.
‘Much.’ You nod slowly, lips pressed together in a line.
‘Can I hug you?’
Ace stares at you with a raised eyebrow.
‘We just gave each other head and now you’re asking if we can hug?’ It’s a dumb question, you knew. But you’d have much rather asked and he’d said no than just “attacking him” and it’s not being reciprocated. You shrug and he just laughs, opening his arms to welcome you into his embrace. A welcome you take very quickly. Your face is quickly buried in the crook of his neck, feeling his breath fan against your skin.
‘If I was to sleep, would you still be here when I woke up?’
There’s a long silence between you both, and it makes the last event feel like a fever dream. It’s a silence that answers your own question.
‘You should come with me. To sea, I mean.’
You sigh, holding him tighter like he’s about to escape.
‘I can’t, Ace. Not right now.’
He hugs you just as tightly, twirling your hair around.
‘I promise I’ll be back soon. Ok? And then someday, I’ll come back and I won’t leave you.’
You’re not quick to respond, but a simple nod seems to suffice.
‘Ace.’
‘Yeah?’
‘I love you.’ You whisper, feeling your eyes start to droop and sleep start to take over. ‘And I’m really glad you manned up and asked me to be yours.’
Ace smiles softly, pressing his lips against your forehead for a long second.
‘I’ll make sure I never stop reminding you.’
You’re unsurprised when you wake up in your room the next morning, no sign that you’d even left (mind the slightly open window). There was a tinge of sadness knowing it would be a long while before you saw the pirate again, but you smile, tracing the marks he’d left on your body. These were the marks of your first time.

Getting married at twenty-two was not in her plans.
Getting her needs and wishes overlooked in the process was not something she imagined either.
Yet there she was…
“We’re here!”
The volume of that voice startled her. She’d grown to hate the sound of it too.
“You’re gonna love it! The flowers are so beautiful and smell amazing. It’s like they pick them every morning.”
Sana watched as her soon to be mother-in-law left the driver’s seat. The much older woman slammed the door behind herself, leaving her in a silence she craved for ever since that same morning.
However, it wasn’t long until she heard that voice piercing through the windshield.
“Come on, what are you waiting for!”
Sana sighed, quickly gathering herself and putting on that fake smile she’d carefully crafted over the last few months.
She couldn’t remember the last time her smile had been genuine. One that conveyed how happy she felt, like whenever she’d meet up with loved-ones, get one of her sugary drinks no one liked but her, or simply listened to music.
Mundanities like these used to be enough. Now it was all a luxury she couldn’t seem to afford.
It felt like forever since she’d last enjoyed something as simple. Since she last enjoyed something.
Everything was a chore nowadays. Just chores she could only do with her fiancé and/or future in-laws.
Each time, each day she had to see them somehow meant adding a new detail to worry about in a wedding that felt less and less hers as time went on. A new box to tick in a checklist she had no desire to even start in the first place, much less partake in.
She barely knew how it had gotten to this point.
She felt as though she was drowning, yet had no idea how she’d even landed in the water.
The last few months were a blur. Everything went so fast.
One second she was graduating college. The next she was engaged to her year long partner.
Literally.
The man had proposed at her graduation party.
She blamed it all on the moment’s euphoria. That’s what made her say yes. It had to be. It was the only reasonable explanation as to why and how she would agree to such a mess.
Now the bliss was long gone.
“White roses are really pretty, aren’t they?”
Your voice startled her out of her thoughts, causing her lips to turn into that fake smile again.
It was impressive how quick she could switch up. That skill she picked up managed to fool more than a few people in the midst of this hell hole.
“I got proposed to with them.” She blurted out, her eyes stuck on the flowers proudly exposed in front of her.
It was almost robotic. Like a pre-loaded answer.
That didn’t go past your ears. You could tell her voice lacked a certain emotion that you were used to hearing in this workfield.
“Oh. Then would you consider them as an option?”
The woman finally looked at you, taking notice of your uniform and name tag. She looked confused, and a faint redness appeared on her cheeks, giving away something she’d rather keep to herself.
Now she regretted the words that slipped out of her daydream.
After taking a glance at you, she would have preferred to keep you clueless about her engagement…
“For your wedding.” You precised, breaking the silence that had settled.
“Right.” She sighed. “I don’t know.”
“I see. Maybe something similar?”
You went on to show her and tell her all about a bunch of flowers that looked like this damn white rose. It didn’t go so far as making her smile again, but she enjoyed hearing about the various pretty plants surrounding her.
It took her mind off what she really was there for.
Until she was reminded again.
“Sana! Have you seen these? So pretty!”
The brunette glanced over to the other side of the shop, seeing the older woman holding what seemed to be a bouquet of bright, orange flowers.
She couldn’t contain the disdain she felt at the sight.
You caught her features tense up for a split second, completely understanding her reaction. It was hard to hold your laughter back, but you pushed through in order to keep the palpable tension between the two from exploding.
Sure, the flowers were pretty, but they were far from a good choice considering the kind of event you were being sollicited for.
“They are, but something a little more delicate would be more suited.” You said, attempting to save the poor bride-to-be by your side. “I’m actually showing Ms. Sana a few options here if you’d like to join us.”
You’ve dealt with a few mothers and in-laws before, you knew how to handle the more hands-on ones.
You always made sure to put the brides and grooms’ tastes first, earning you more than one scolding. You couldn’t care less, though, all you wanted was for your customers to have a pretty bouquet to their liking and a smile when exiting your shop.
“I’ll just look around on the side.” The older woman turned her back to the two of you, to the brunette’s delight.
“What’s your favorite flower?”
You looked back at her, catching a determined gaze with your own. It was certainly different than the detached, almost absent one from a minute prior.
“I’m sorry, what?”
“I’m open to any suggestions. Who knows, maybe I’ll get to like at least one thing about all this.” She scoffed, bringing a peony to her nose.
Now, you’d sensed the fact that this wedding planning was being done under some tension. The patterns never lied, but you still found yourself surprised at her words.
It seemed to be worse than you thought.
“Do you not have one?”
Her voice snapped you back to reality. You must have been silent for a while.
“Sorry. I was just thinking.” You mumbled. “But to answer your question, I do have one. I like moonflowers.”
“Moonflowers…” She repeated under her breath. “It sounds pretty.”
“They look pretty too.” You smiled. “Would you like to see them?”
“Do you have some?” She asked, curious.
“Of course. It’s the main reason I work here.” You smiled, leading her to your favorite flowers.
Her face lit up at the sight of them. Her features suddenly looked much softer, her eyes a little brighter, and her smile… It was small, barely noticeable if you didn’t focus on her lips.
Yes, you were staring at her lips, but could you really be blamed? She was beautiful. Everyone stares at beautiful things. You were no different, and she wasn’t either.
She was staring too, only at the flowers.
You cleared your throat, suddenly remembering what you were being paid for, and resumed your job.
“We only have a few of them, but they’re beautiful.” You said, filling the silence between the two of you.
“Why do you prefer these?” She asked, tracing a few petals delicately.
“It’s a long story.”
“I have a lot of time.” She glanced at you, her eyes letting you know you’d better start telling her that story.
You weren’t sure where that attitude was coming from.
She seemed so hopeless when she stepped in behind that in-law of hers. You expected to deal with another worn out bride, bracing yourself for about an hour of work to turn that frown upside down.
Nothing had warned you about this rebellious trait she seemed to have.
You were curious now. Surely, if she wanted to put an end to this, it looked like she could…
So why was she here?
“Why are you getting married?”
Maybe a little too forward, you thought, wincing at your own words.
The motion of her fingers against the flowers came to a halt.
“What?”
Her eyes were back on you, and you felt your heart pick up the pace. You racked through your brain, searching for an excuse to cover your unprofessional slip-up, all while trying to decipher the way she looked at you.
“I ask this question to all my customers in order to get them the best flowers.” You lied, pulling your best customer service smile. “I’m not trying to sabotage your wedding, don’t worry.”
“Do you actually?” She asked, completely switching her focus onto you.
“Yes.” You lied again. “I’m not asking for details. Just a few adjectives will do.”
Sure you felt a little bad about it, but in all honesty, you were more impressed by the fact that you managed to keep it together and not stutter once.
That woman had one intense gaze.
“Well…” She trailed off.
She was hesitant, looking for words you could already tell would be lies.
It made you frown internally while you feigned patience in front of her.
Maybe the attitude was a façade.
“Because I was asked to.”
Or maybe not.
You weren’t sure of anything regarding this woman and her situation anymore. That was one good lesson of never judging a book by its cover, or something along those lines.
“I see.” You nodded, looking down at the ground.
It was a lie again, but in your defense, you didn’t know what else to say this time around.
“Have you ever actually sabotaged a wedding?”
Your eyes darted back to her. Your obvious surprise amused her, and she let you know with a laugh as soft as her smile.
You felt something in your chest. A sudden drop in temperature as her laugh sent chills down your spine, only for it to rise again along with your heart rate.
It was odd. Something about her was odd. It seemed as though she was hiding something, and your body debated on whether or not it wanted to be around to find out what.
And all you could do was watch, feel, and respond when needed.
“No.”
You opted for the truth this time. You didn’t expect much to come out of it, but it seemed to please her.
Her smile appeared again. It was a little wider than before. More confident.
You ignored its effects, but you couldn’t ignore the beauty of the sight before you.
It was all you could focus on, forgetting about your surroundings and their own beauty once again.
It was blinding.
Enough for you to agree to anything that might come out those perfect lips.
She knew all about that.
She’s been told all her life.
And she loved to take advantage of it.
“Do you want to?”

“Jeremiah and I are going to build a fort when I spend the night,” Eli told you from the back seat as you drove him to school. This sleepover tomorrow was all he had been able to talk about all morning. “He said his daddy builds the most epic forts that take up the whole living room and he’s gonna ask him if he’ll build us one. And we’re going to watch Scooby Doo and the Alien Invaders. And Jeremiah has a Gameboy and he said he’s going to let me play on it! I think I’m going to ask Santa for a Gameboy this Christmas!”
“Wow,” you replied, smiling to yourself as your eyes darted to the rearview mirror, relishing the excitement on your son’s face. “Well, Christmas is pretty far away, buddy, but you save that idea.”
“Well, Christmas is way closer than my birthday now because that already happened and I have to wait a whole ten months for my birthday to come again but Christmas is only eight months away.”
“You’re right. Christmas is closer.”
“Yeah, and the Easter bunny doesn’t bring stuff like Gameboys. He just brings some candy and small stuff.”
“That’s right. I think asking Santa for it is a really good idea.” Plus, that would give you some time to save up for it. You made good money but working off of a single income meant you started saving for Christmas long before the holiday arrived.
“Yeah, I think so too,” your son replied, his little face serious. “Maybe I’ll start working on my list so it’s all ready. Oh! And Jeremiah said that we can ask his dad if we can go for a night walk. They take their flashlights and Miles and walk around in the dark! Isn’t that cool?”
“The coolest! That all sounds pretty amazing, buddy. You’re going to have the best time.”
“I know! And we get to spend the whole day together! We have baseball and then we’re going to get ice cream and then I’m sleeping at his house. It’s going to be the best day of my whole life!”
You laughed, “Well, that’s a pretty big statement. You still have a lot of life yet to go, but I am sure it will be the best day of your seven years so far.”
Turning into the drop-off line, you waved to Ms. Lincoln, Eli’s kindergarten teacher, who was standing to the side, greeting the kids as they came in. She’d been so vital to Eli that year. He’d lost his dad just a couple months into the year and she’d been so empathetic and kind to him. You would forever be grateful for the way she’d helped your son navigate such a confusing and awful time.
It had been difficult for Eli to understand the permanence of what had happened, especially when his dad being gone for a long period of time was not unusual. He continually asked when Justin was coming home, each inquiry another ice pick straight into your chest, when you would have to explain, again, that daddy couldn’t come home this time. He couldn’t ever come home again.
Ms. Lincoln had taken a special interest in him, knowing his love of superheroes, something that had come about because you had told him once that his daddy was one. Eli envisioned his dad like Superman, saving people’s lives, which wasn’t entirely untrue. His teacher was the one who encouraged him to draw. That was when he’d created Master Marine, a superhero with blond hair and blue eyes just like his dad that swooped in and saved the day, defeating the bad guys.
Every single time a new picture made its way onto your fridge, you would battle back the darkness. The darkness that sat just to the side, waiting to swallow you whole. The darkness you fought every morning, knowing you had to get up, knowing you had to keep moving or you would become stuck. And you couldn’t become stuck because your son needed you.
He needed you to be his mother, needed you to be strong and show him that everything was okay, needed you to keep going to your job so you had a place to live and food to eat. So as much as those pictures used to tear you up, take whatever pieces you'd managed to tape back together and run them through the shredder each time they appeared, you knew they were helping your son cope. Even his therapist had said art was an excellent outlet for him. So, when he would present you with a new one, Master Marine saving a young child that looked just like Eli from a bully at school or saving a woman with your hair and eyes from an evil mastermind, you would smile and gush about how amazing it was, sticking it to the fridge with a magnet.
“Bye mommy!” Eli yelled as you moved up to the front of the school, one of the fourth grade teachers opening the back door for him.
“Bye buddy. Have a good day. I love you!”
“Love you too!”
He turned back and waved to you over his shoulder before disappearing into the red brick building, his Batman backpack bobbing on his back. You turned out of the school and onto the road, heading for your favorite coffee shop.
You had a rare Friday off and you were starting it off by meeting Janice for coffee, a little ritual you had whenever you had a weekday off. It didn’t happen often but when it did, you savored every single moment of it. Your life was a constant cycle of work, running errands, doing household chores, and being a mom. To have six hours of time where no one required anything from you was a gift, one you didn’t get very often, and one you never took for granted.
Some people might use that extra day to catch up on household chores or run errands. But you didn’t, not if you could help it. You used that time to meet your friend, enjoying a slow coffee that you could savor instead of inhaling it just to get the caffeine to kick in. You used it to actually sit down and read a book or lay on the couch and watch tv shows you couldn’t ever watch when Eli was around. The laundry and the messy house would still be there tomorrow. The grocery store wouldn’t cease to exist if you didn’t go today.
Opening up the door to Brewed Awakening, you instantly felt like you were home, the atmosphere always so warm and welcoming. June, the owner, a woman around your age with long black hair and startling green eyes, waved from behind the counter. You waved back, inhaling the rich aroma of freshly brewed coffee, already feeling that zing of energy, as if your body knew what was coming and was preparing for it.
You had been coming here for coffee since June had opened the place four years ago. Your love of coffee is what had brought you to the door but the atmosphere and the friendly owner is what kept you coming back. It didn’t hurt that June made an excellent cinnamon mocha. But what she’d done with the space turned it into an inviting place that kept you wanting to come back.
The decor was like a warm hug, full of comfortable furniture and cozy blankets. People often curled up in the squishy armchairs with their mug of coffee, reading a book, a blanket draped across their lap. Or they might be cross legged, on one of the wide chairs at a table, working on their laptop. The walls were a canvas of photos and artwork, small cafes from all around the world, allowing you to imagine that you were sipping a cappuccino in Vienna or enjoying a cafe latte in Paris.
“Hey girl,” June greeted with a smile as you approached the counter. “Cinnamon latte as usual?”
“Yes, please. I’m actually meeting Janice but she’s not here yet, of course.”
June winked, “Of course. Our Janice prefers to be fashionably late. Want me to get her Flat White ready?”
There it was, that feeling of belonging, like you were old friends even if the only encounters you ever had were at this counter. June had to serve hundreds of coffees a day but she knew every single regular’s order and often took the time to learn personal things about them as well. Often, you would approach to find your drink already ready, June preparing it the moment she saw you walk in.
“Yes please.”
“How’s my favorite little guy doing?” asked June as she steamed the milk.
“Oh, he’s great. He actually started playing baseball. His first practice was yesterday and he loved it,” you told her, slipping your credit card into the reader.
“Yeah? That’s great. I played softball all through school and I loved it. I can’t wait for him to come in with you so he can tell me all about it.”
“I’ll have to pop in with him sometime this weekend. You know how much he loves your hot chocolate.”
June laughed, setting the cups on the counter and leaning in, whispering, “Just so you know, that’s my Eli special. Not everyone gets extra whipped cream, chocolate chips, and crushed candy canes on their hot chocolate. Just my favorites.”
She winked and you smiled as you took the two coffees and headed over to two squishy armchairs that were free. You sat, sipping on your blessed caffeine, only waiting a few moments before Janice came swirling into the coffee shop like the tornado she was, apologies already falling from her lips for being late. Not that they were necessary. Late was just her perpetual way of being. You'd accepted that about your friend. You learned long ago that if you needed Janice ready at five, then you had to tell her four or you’d be waiting a while.
You held up your friend’s coffee and Janice took it with a smile, flopping down into the chair with a dramatic sigh, “Thank you. You are my favorite person ever.”
“I already had that title. I’ve had that title for a very long time. I didn’t need to buy you coffee for that so maybe you should pay me back. What a waste of my money,” you teased.
Janice stuck her tongue out. “You only stay my favorite because you supply my caffeine habit. Sorry I’m late. I was editing photos from that wedding I had a few weeks ago and I completely lost track of time. Then I raced out the door and got in my car and realized I didn’t have my purse. So, then I had to run back in and then the house phone rang and it was my mom and you know how hard it is to get her off the phone. And then when I told her I was meeting you, she had to know how you were doing and if you’ve found a guy from online dating so I was filling her in on what a disaster that was. And…”
“It’s fine,” you laughed, not surprised at all that Janice had told her mom all about your online dating escapades. The two were more like best friends, only sixteen years between them, than mother and daughter. “I never expect you to be on time anyway.”
“You know, I should be offended but that’s fair,” your friend shrugged and then she lurched forward, hand on the arm of your chair. “But I really was trying to get here on time today because I am dying to know how last night went with the hot dad.”
“You know it wasn’t a date, right?”
Janice waved her hand, groaning loudly, “He brought dinner to your place. It’s practically date adjacent.”
“Our kids were there. I told you that. Do you even listen when I talk? Eli and Jeremiah were just having a playdate. He brought pizza. It wasn’t even in the same zip code as a date.”
“So…you’re not interested in him at all?” Janice’s eyebrows lifted to her hairline, coffee cup brought to her lips, challenging you. Damn, she knew you too well. “Aha! I knew it! It’s all over your face. You are a smitten kitten and I love it! You’re definitely interested.”
You groaned, your head resting against the back of the chair. “Maybe…I don’t know. Janice, this is all very strange for me. And he’s just the dad of my kid’s friend. It’s not like he asked me out or hit on me or gave me any sign that he’s interested in me at all. He didn’t approach me at some bar and buy me a drink. I approached him to ask about his son coming to my house to play. I don’t even know if he’s single.”
“Well, that’s easy enough to figure out. Just ask him. When are you going to see him again?”
“Tomorrow. The boys have baseball practice again and then Eli is going to spend the night at their house.”
You looked down at your coffee, focusing on the dots of cinnamon speckled across the foam, not wanting Janice to read your expression. You did not want her to see how excited you felt at the idea of seeing him again and to read too much into it because you didn’t even know how you felt about it.
Yeah, you were lonely sometimes. Eli was your entire world and you had Janice and Matt. You weren't alone but sometimes you wished for someone to be around. Someone that was yours. Someone who might take care of you, offer to rub your feet or handle things while you took a bath. Someone you could curl up with while you watched a movie or who would make the salad while you prepared dinner. Someone to talk to, to share about your day, to hold your hand while you strolled through the grocery store.
It was dumb, really. Silly. You knew that. You should be perfectly content with everything you had, everything you'd had before you lost Justin. Not everyone got to experience a love like you had. But even when you had him, because of his job, he wasn’t always there. You'd spent lots of evenings alone. Being alone was not anything new for you but there was something vastly different about being alone, knowing your person was coming home to you at some point versus being alone knowing they never would.
“Okay, perfect. So you ask him tomorrow.”
“How am I supposed to ask him if he’s single?” you scoffed, appalled at the idea. Clearly, Eli had a mom. He’d spoken about her last night. Maybe he just didn’t like to wear a ring. Maybe she was simply out of town for work or something.
“Just like that. You tell him that you enjoyed your evening together and you wondered if he was single.”
“Janice, I can’t do that.”
“Of course you can. It’s a simple question.”
“There’s nothing simple about that. I haven’t asked a guy out in over a decade. And even back then, I was awful at it. I was always so nervous. Do you remember when tripped over my own feet and spilled that drink all over Josh Day in college? It was mortifying. Just because you’re all confident and brave doesn’t mean everyone is. Besides, I don’t even know if I want to know. I don’t know what I want.”
“Honey, we’ve been over this.”
“Yeah. We have. And you’re the one who wants this for me,” you groaned, “but Janice, you’re not in my shoes. You have no idea. You can’t know what this is like and I hope you never have to. You say it’s been long enough and that I need to move on. Maybe you’re right but that doesn’t mean I can wave some magic wand and be ready. They didn’t exactly give me a manual on how to get over your grief when your husband suddenly dies. They didn’t give me some step-by-step instruction booklet for how to start dating after losing the love of your life. And how to do that when you’re also a single mother who has a kid to consider in all of it. I tried. I went on four dates and every single one of them was awful and just reminded me of what I was missing. They didn’t make me want to move on. They made me want to hang on for dear life to what I used to have.”
“I know. I know they were awful. But I don’t want to see you close yourself off to the possibility because you’re scared. Online dating sucked. I hear you. But this isn’t that. This is a guy, right in front of you, who you obviously are interested in. And it’s a guy who already knows Eli and your son likes him. He’s already organically a part of your world. You spent a whole evening with him. Do you have another horror story to tell me about him?”
“No,” you admitted, sinking down into the comforting cushion of the chair. “No. He seems wonderful. He was great with the boys. I mean, obviously he’s good with his kid but he was great with Eli too. He had them both laughing. And he has a good job. He’s a project manager for a construction company. Not that it should matter but I definitely don’t need a manchild in my life. Raising Eli is enough.”
“And…?”
“And what? Isn’t that enough?”
“He’s cute obviously?”
You flushed, bringing a hand to your face as those eyes and that smile came back to you, “I already told you he’s good looking. I mean…hazel eyes, ridiculously good hair, and a smile that could power up the whole of New York City. He’s that kind of good looking that makes you wonder what he’s doing here and not on your television screen.”
Janice giggled, her feet bouncing against the floor, arm smacking her chair, “See? Come on. Take your shot, honey.”
“But what about Eli?”
“What about Eli? Didn’t you say he liked him?”
“He did but he barely knows him. And this isn’t the kind of thing where I could wait to introduce them until I knew it was something real because he’s already in Eli’s life now. And Eli is best friends with his son. I can’t screw that up for him. Because how would we be able to still set up playdates if we had some horrible breakup? We wouldn’t be able to be in the same room and then Eli would be crushed. And what if Eli isn’t ready to see me with someone else? He’s only ever seen me with his dad. He might think I’m betraying Justin. And what if…”
“Whoa, okay, let’s back the truck up a bit here,” Janice soothed, her hand coming to rest on your arm. “It’s just a date, one date honey, not a lifetime commitment. Ask him out on one date and see how it goes. Keep it simple and come here for coffee. No pressure. Not some fancy restaurant with low lighting. Just a nice coffee. If there’s nothing there then you just move on as friends and it doesn’t have to affect the boys. They don’t even have to know that you two went out. And you know I’ll watch Eli for you if you need me to. Name the time and Matt and I will be there.”
“I don’t know. This all just feels weird and wrong…I mean, Justin…”
“Justin wouldn’t want you to be alone for the rest of your life. Justin loved you like Sam loved Annie, like Wesley loved Buttercup, like Harry loved Sally. He would want you to have the world. He would hate the idea of you sitting in that house all alone. You are far too young to be facing the rest of your life alone. Take the leap, my friend. Take a chance on this movie star man. Be happy. It’s okay.”
But was it okay? You would like to think that Justin would want you to be happy, that he wouldn’t want you to spend the rest of your life alone at only thirty-two. But would he look at it as a betrayal? Would you be dishonoring him and everything you'd shared if you replaced him like an old couch?
And was any of this even relevant? You didn’t even know if Steve was single. Maybe he was still married or maybe he wasn’t but he was already seeing someone else. You couldn’t imagine a guy like that staying single for long. There had to be women lined up just waiting for their turn. If the moms at practice the other day were any indication, that was certainly the case.
But did you want to keep being alone? Maybe you didn’t straight up ask him but maybe you could find out. You were hanging out tomorrow for a bit anyway. Maybe if you were crafty, you could figure out his status without just coming out and asking if he was single.
“I’ll think about it,” you finally relented.
“I guess I’ll take what I can get,” sighed Janice.
___________________________________________________________
After listening to Janice spend the next hour trying to convince you why you needed to grab the bull by the horns, your friend’s words and not yours, you were ready to get the hell out of there. Janice was not going to let this go. You'd hugged your annoying, but well-meaning, friend and headed off to the grocery store.
As you'd just had pizza last night, Eli had asked if you could change pizza Friday to nacho Friday. So, here you were, even though you usually avoided doing things like this on a bonus day, grabbing all the fixings you would need to make the best nachos ever. Or really, what you would need because when Eli said nachos, all he really wanted was melted cheese on tortilla chips and some salsa to dip them in.
Not you. You had every intention of loading yours up with all the good stuff. Grabbing a cart, you wandered through the aisles, grabbing avocados to make guacamole, ground beef, taco seasoning, black olives, sour cream, and one jalapeno. Deciding a bottle of wine would be a nice addition, you turned down the liquor aisle and almost plowed right into another cart with your cart.
“Oh my god. I am so sorry. I wasn’t even looking…”
Your heart stopped, along with the entire grocery store, as if someone had hit the pause button, when you saw who you almost ran into. Steve gave you that megawatt smile, blinding even under the fluorescent lights of the grocery store. He stood there in a plaid button down and jeans, a baseball cap on his head.
Seriously? You'd met this guy two days ago and you had never seen him before. You definitely would have noticed if he’d ever been anywhere in your vicinity. Who wouldn’t notice a guy who looked like that just having the nerve to exist? Now you were running into him in the grocery store? Could you have just been blind?
To be fair, after Justin had passed, for a long time you felt like you w were moving through life in a fog. Your grief had been so thick that you barely noticed anything, simply going through the motions that were required of you. Maybe you had seen him before but never even noticed, blinders that were you just trying to function keeping you from seeing this beautiful man that lived in your town.
“Hey there,” he laughed, taking his hands off the cart and holding them out wide.
“Hey. Grocery shopping?”
Your eyes closed as you inwardly cursed yourself. Obviously he was grocery shopping. He had a cart in the middle of a grocery store. Why were you so bad at this? And Janice really thought you had a shot in hell of flirting with him, of asking him out when you couldn’t come up with anything better than asking him if he was grocery shopping in a grocery store?
“I mean, it is a store full of food so, you know?” Steve shrugged, gesturing to his basket. “I had a few hours before I had to be out to check on a job site so I figured I’d grab all the provisions for the big sleepover tomorrow. It’s way easier to do it now than to lug Jere with me. He’ll have this cart overflowing and my wallet completely drained by the time we checkout.”
You looked down. His cart was full of everything two seven year old boys might want. He had burgers, hot dogs, buns, four kinds of chips, cookies, ice cream, popcorn, juice boxes, cereal, and milk. You also noticed the six pack of beer that was probably his own personal little treat for having two seven year old boys in his house all night. Your eyes met his, eyebrows lifting.
“The beer is just…I mean, I won’t drink it all when they’re there or anything. Just like to have one or two in the evening sometimes. I promise you I am a responsible adult.”
“No, that’s not it. I don’t care if you enjoy a beer. You’ll probably need it. It’s just that’s a lot of food for one overnight. Looks more like you’re planning on twelve kids or possibly stealing my child for a whole week,” you teased, pressing your lips together. “I warn you. You can try to take him if you want but you’ll want to give him back after the first night. I’ll be impressed if you make it through night two. He’s amazing but he’s a handful.”
One of his hands ran through his hair as he chuckled, “No. I wasn’t planning on keeping him. Trust me, one seven year old is more than enough for me to handle on a regular basis. Besides, Jere’s mom will be home Sunday night so he’ll be heading back with her until I get him again on Wednesday.”
“Oh?” So she was in the picture but definitely not in the picture as in them together. Here was your opening, your way of finding out more information without blatantly letting him know you were interested. Just a casual conversation between two acquaintances who ran into each other. “Shared custody?”
“Yeah. Nance and I divorced about four years ago but we try to co-parent the best we can. She’s been on a trip with her husband for their anniversary for the past week so I’ve had Jere all week. That’s why I needed a babysitter for the meeting. Normally, we just help each other out if we need to.”
“Wow, that’s great. It’s so nice that you two can make that work when so many can’t. Jeremiah must love that his parents can work together so well. It has to make the split a lot easier on him.”
Steve shrugged, “Yeah. I mean, we’re just better friends than we were romantic partners, you know? It wasn’t really a contentious divorce. Nobody did anything bad. No cheating or nastiness or anything. We knew we wanted to make it as easy on Jere as we could so we agreed to joint custody, splitting our time with him fifty-fifty and then if something comes up, we just move stuff around as needed.”
You were impressed. You had known quite a few people who’d gone through a divorce, more than you should for only being thirty two. Most of them were not friendly with each other. Nasty divorces where venomous words were thrown around and battles lasted for months over possessions and children and pets. To have two people just recognize that their marriage wasn’t working and decide to work together for the sake of their kid was incredibly mature and only made him that much more attractive. You really needed this guy to have a fault because it was getting harder and harder not to think he might be the most perfect guy you'd ever met.
“It’s really nice that you two are there for each other like that. It’s hard being a single parent.”
“Yeah. It is,” he agreed. “You’re always feeling like you’re doing the job of two people. But I’m very lucky to have her and my friends to help me out.”
“Yeah, I have my friend Janice and her husband Matt. They help me out a lot whenever they can. Matt is actually the one who got Eli into baseball. He started taking him to the batting cages right after him and Janice started dating. And he’s taken him to a couple games. That’s why Eli wanted to play.”
“Well, Jere is definitely glad for that. He was practically bursting to tell me that Eli was going to be on the team.”
“Those two really seem to have connected,” you said fondly. “Eli talks about him all the time. It’s nice. He…uh, he struggled to make friends the first couple years of school. He was kind of quiet and kept to himself after…well, he just was going through some stuff. So, him finding Jeremiah has been really great. Or, I guess Jeremiah found him, actually. Eli told me Jeremiah saw his Batman backpack on the first day of school and showed him his Superman one and asked if he wanted to be his best friend. It has really brought him out of his shell.”
“Well, Jere loves him. When I ask about school, he’s never talking about anything he is actually learning.” Steve chuckled. “He’s always telling me about Eli. He would not stop talking about Eli coming to sleepover after we left your house last night and it was all he talked about this morning on the drive to school.”
“Eli too.”
“Coach Harrington, is that you?” came a sing-songy voice as Laurie Streeter came sliding up next to him with her cart.
“Oh, hi Ms. Streeter,” Steve greeted with a nod.
“I thought that was you,” she beamed and was that, was she actually batting her eyelashes at him? You grimaced at the woman in her mid thirties acting like some teenage girl with a crush. “I just couldn’t pass up the chance to say hi to my favorite baseball coach. You know, Richie hasn’t been able to stop talking about how much he loves baseball ever since the first practice the other night.”
“Well, good. I’m glad he’s enjoying it. I try to make sure all the boys are learning but having fun.”
“Oh, and you do such a wonderful job.”
Her hand fell on his forearm as she leaned into him, pressing her ample cleavage against his bicep. Steve’s eyes widened and you noticed the red that was creeping along his neck, up over his jaw, coloring his cheeks. But was he blushing because he was flattered or because he was mortified?
You were certainly mortified. You couldn’t even bring yourself to ask him if he wanted to maybe get a cup of coffee sometime and this woman was practically melding their bodies into one in the liquor aisle of the grocery store.
Laurie was that mom that was always put together. You never caught her without a full face of make-up and not a hair out of place. Her husband left her for a younger model last year and instead of letting it beat her down, she’d come back with a vengeance. She’d taken up Pilates and even you had to appreciate how tight her ass looked in her yoga pants. Apparently, Laurie had decided to show her ex just what he’d given up when he walked away.
You looked down at yourself. It wasn’t that you were sloppy. You were wearing jeans and a sweatshirt, normal attire for your off days. You'd put on some concealer and mascara this morning and you'd pulled your hair into a ponytail in preparation for meeting Janice for coffee. You looked presentable but you would never be able to compete with that if that was what Steve was looking for.
Laurie might be a single mom but she was living off of the generous alimony she received in the divorce from her cardiac surgeon ex husband. She didn’t work. She had a nanny for her three sons. She had all the time and money in the world for Pilates, spa days, and the salon. You were lucky if you remembered to get a haircut every six months.
“That’s really nice of you to say,” Steve replied, and you watched as his Adam’s apple bobbed as he swallowed hard.
“Oh my gosh, coach. Your arm is so firm. Wow. Do you work out?” asked Laurie, giggling as she wrapped her hand around his bicep, squeezing.
“I mean…I try to get to the gym a few days a week,” he stammered.
Jesus. Laurie was ready to straddle him right there next to the wine and Steve was struggling to speak. This situation was just getting uncomfortable at this point and you needed an out. Janice was wrong. There was no way you were going to embarrass yourself by setting yourself up to be rejected.
“It shows. You know, it must get so lonely in that house all by yourself when Jeremiah is with his mom. I could bring over dinner sometime for you, keep you company…”
That was it. You could not listen to it anymore. “You know, I really need to get going so I’ll let you two catch up,” you interjected, attempting to maneuver your cart around them.
“Oh my gosh! I didn’t even see you there,” Laurie said, her voice dripping with false sweetness, letting you know she absolutely had seen you there. She just didn’t care. The woman’s eyes roved over you from head to toe. “Oh honey, you must let me give you the name of my stylist. You could really do with a…well, everything. I know single motherhood is challenging but you really can’t just let yourself go. When was the last time you had your hair done, sweetie? How do you ever expect to find a man walking around like that?”
“Well, you know it’s hard to find the time,” you seethed, the urge to just leave your cart and dart out of the store overwhelming. But no, you'd promised Eli nachos for dinner. You would not let this woman bully you into running away in shame.
“I’m a single mother and somehow I find the time.”
“Yeah, it must be so hard when you have a full-time nanny to mother your children. Some of us have to actually do that ourselves.”
Laurie looked like she’d been slapped, her jaw almost hitting the floor. Steve’s hand slid across his mouth but you caught how his eyes crinkled. He was hiding a smile, amused by your comment.
“You know, I happen to enjoy a woman who doesn’t feel the need to get all made up just to go grocery shopping,” he offered. “When you’re naturally beautiful you don’t need to hide it behind a bunch of face paint, anyway.”
You pulled your bottom lip between your teeth to conceal the smile that came at his words. Could this man be any more perfect? Did he even have a flaw? And the look on Laurie’s face, the way she turned tomato red, the fumes that you could practically see coming out of your nose, only made the moment even more enjoyable.
“Well, this was fun but I really need to get going now. I have to pick up my son and make dinner for him since I don’t have anyone to do that for me. I’ll let you both get back to your shopping,” you said simply, pushing your cart down the aisle, heading for the checkout.
“Hey, I’ll see you tomorrow, right?” Steve called out.
You turned to look at him over your shoulder, “Yeah, tomorrow, facepaint free, split ends, and all.”
Oh, but that look on Laurie’s face, sheer jealousy and outrage, would have you smiling for the rest of the day.
____________________________________________________________
Steve drove toward home after checking in at the job site, unable to stop grinning, occasionally chuckling as he remembered Laurie’s face when you had called her out. As he remembered the smile you gave him when he spoke up, saying you didn’t need make-up because you were naturally beautiful, his chest warmed.
Well, okay, he hadn’t exactly said you were beautiful but it was implied. At least, he thought it was. And you didn’t need make-up. He loved that you were comfortable enough in your own skin that you didn’t feel the need to cover every inch of your face in make-up. He loved that you didn’t feel the need to look like you were heading out to the club just to pop into the grocery store.
He’d dated his fair share of high-maintenance girls. And while there was nothing wrong with a lady caring about her appearance, there was something annoying about having to wait an hour and a half for them to get ready when you casually mentioned grabbing some lunch. Now you were waiting until closer to dinnertime and grouchy, which inevitably led to a very unpleasant meal when you started sniping at each other. He’d been there more times than he could count.
And Laurie Streeter, she needed someone to knock her down a few pegs. She walked around with her nose stuck up in the air, acting like she was better than everyone else. She had milked that divorce for all she could and honestly, her shitbag of a husband had cheated, so Steve didn’t fault her for that. But everyone knew she didn’t get her hands dirty if she didn’t have to. She had a cleaning lady, a nanny, and in the summers she even had a pool boy. That woman had no idea what it was like to actually be a single mother.
Steve pulled his Ford Explorer into the driveway in front of his house. He’d bought it after Nancy and him had separated. There’d been no arguing. She was the mother of his child. He told her to go ahead and keep the house. He’d be the one to find somewhere new but she’d wanted a fresh start too. So, they’d sold the house they bought together when he was only twenty-three and split the profits.
It fit his needs. In fact, it was probably a bit more space than he needed for just him and Jeremiah. It was a two story house with three bedrooms and two full baths. The kitchen area was decent sized with a wrap around island where he kept a couple barstools and a space for a dining room table. He’d refinished the basement two years ago and that was where most of Jere’s toys were, along with a tv for him to watch his cartoons.
But his favorite part was the backyard. The house was rare in the neighborhood, boasting a quarter acre of land with a large backyard. His fence butted right up to the treeline and he spent many nights sitting out on the deck he’d built or on the patio with a fire going and a beer in his hand. Jeremiah loved the swingset he’d put in and he was begging for them to get a pool but that was a big expense and a hell of a lot of upkeep. Still, he promised the kid he’d think about it.
Unlocking the front door, he smiled as the familiar tapping of paws across hardwood greeted him. Miles came dashing around the corner. He swore that the dog looked like he was smiling, with his big old tongue hanging out of the right side of his mouth. His size intimidated people sometimes but he was just a big old teddy bear.
“Hey there Miles,” Steve cooed, rubbing his head. “You miss me? Your buddy will be home from school soon. I have to get him in about an hour. You wanna come with me?”
The dog huffed loudly, curling his body and spinning in a circle as if he understood exactly what Steve was saying. And quite honestly, sometimes he wondered if he did. He’d spent many a night spilling his guts to the furry beast, telling him things he never shared with anyone else, not even Robin.
“You know, there’s going to be some new people coming to meet you tomorrow,” he told Miles, heading into the living room, the Newfoundland trailing behind him. “Jere’s friend, Eli, is going to come over and spend the night. He’s really excited to meet you.”
He sat down on the couch and the dog did not hesitate, leaping right up next to him. He laid down, his big head dropping onto Steve’s knee and he absent mindedly stroked his fur, fingers moving through the black, shaggy fur.
“His mom’s coming too and I think I might like her.” Miles lifted his head, those big brown eyes observing him. “I know. I know. I see a pretty girl and I’m losing my mind again but I don’t think that’s what this is. Not this time. This girl’s different. But she lost her husband and I don’t know how long ago it was. I don’t want to push her into something she’s not ready for. And you know, if I asked her out and then it didn’t work, what if she felt awkward and then Eli and Jere couldn’t hang out anymore? He’d be so hurt. I don’t know. I thought about asking if she wanted to stay for dinner tomorrow. I mean, the kids would be here too. So, it’s not really like asking her on a date, right? It would just give me a chance to maybe talk to her, get to know more about her. I just feel like I have to be careful with this one, you know? It’s not just my heart that could be on the line this time. So, what do you think? Should I ask if she wants to stay for dinner tomorrow? Have a burger? It’s casual enough, right? Just being friendly?”
Miles leapt up and barked before bestowing Steve’s face with one of his sloppy kisses. He laughed, grabbing Miles’ big head, placing a kiss right on his black nose.
“I guess that means it’s a good idea, huh?”
Miles woofed loudly and maybe it wasn’t the most valid way to make a decision, but Steve trusted this big beast more than he did most people. Alright, he’d ask you to stay and eat with them. No big deal. You'd all eaten together the night before. Then he could maybe figure out what the right call was with this because he really wanted to find out if you were as different as you seemed. He wanted to know if this time could be different, if maybe he’d chosen the right one.

So, fun detail I just noticed about Megamind:
Famously, throughout the film Megamind mispronounces certain words, most notably: "hello" ("olo"), "Metro City" ("Metrocity") and "school" ("shool").
Like many fans, I'd attributed this and other oddities— like not knowing what a window is— to his unconventional upbringing and general social isolation. His speech sounds a lot like the way people pronounce words that they've only seen written down, so maybe he just hasn't had enough practice talking to other people out loud.
Lovely theory, very angsty, makes sense that this would be what the film-makers intended.
Except…
You know who doesn't seem to have this problem with pronunciation? And who in fact attempts to correct Megamind's pronunciation of various words more than any other character?
Fucking Minion.
Minion was there for literally every step of Megamind's childhood. They were raised on Earth together and went through seemingly the exact same experiences. Yet somehow Minion came out the other end knowing how to answer the phone and what a window is and why people use codes, while Megamind didn't.
And I am just so fascinated as to why.
Top three theories:
1. Megamind isn't actually mispronouncing words due to lack of practice, but rather for some other reason.
Maybe there's something up with his ability to hear certain sounds, or his alien anatomy makes it harder to pronounce them. Maybe he's neurodivergent (I mean, he definitely is, but maybe that fact is affecting his speech).
2. Megamind is mispronouncing things due to lack of practice, but there's something about Minion that makes him need less practice to pick up new languages.
Possibly as part of their protective role, his species has advanced language acquisition programmed in so they can act as translators. Else, while Minion and Megamind landed on Earth together, it's not 100% clear whether they were actually at the same age/developmental stage when that happened. If Minion was an adult (or older child) when he became fluent in English, he might have consciously focused more on accurate pronunciation than Megamind did.
3. Megamind is mispronouncing things due to lack of practice, but Minion is getting more practice than him.
This is… honestly the theory with the most evidence behind it. Like, we know that Minion isn't in jail at the start of the film, so he's clearly mot spending the same amount of time in solitary confinement that Megamind is.
He also appears to be in charge of providing Megamind with the resources needed to carry out his plans, which would presumably require him to communicate with scrap merchants, crocodile breeders and Romanian outlet store owners (among others) on the regular.
And like… if he's not getting thrown in jail whenever Megamind does, and Megamind is spending a fair amount of time on the inside, then Minion has to be doing something to pass the time. He's clearly a bit of an extrovert, and seems to take more pleasure in interacting with people than Megamind does.
It seems unlikely that he'd spend all his time sitting in the Evil Lair waiting for Megamind contact him or escape. So what does he do?
I find it both sweet and hilarious to imagine that Minion actually does have his own social circle outside of Megamind.
Minion goes to DnD on the second Tuesday of every month.
Minion gets advice on making costumes for Megamind from his weekly sewing circle.
Minion has been going to university online for the past eight years and is currently working towards his PhD in Marine Biology.
Minion is a semi-regular at Metrocity Night Clubs.
Minion does volunteer work sometimes with kids at the Metrocity hospital.
Megamind has barely any idea about any of this. Like, he knows Minion goes places at various times.
He knows that when he's rampaging through the streets Minion will sometimes stop to wave hello to various people that Megamind has never met. He's seen the half-orc paladin costume that Minion made for DnD.
But he's never really asked about it, and Minion has never seen the need to tell him. So long as Minion's happy, Megamind's happy, and so long as Megamind's happy, Minion is happy.
Meanwhile Roxanna, post-movie, has to grapple with the fact that sometimes she'll go to visit her boyfriend only for him to ask if they can go out for dinner instead because Minion's book club is meeting in the Evil Lair, and he's been gently encouraged not to come back after what he said to Helen about her (wrong) opinions on To Kill A Mockingbird.

Sunset Pirates pt. 2
Old Men Series Masterlist <<<

Tumblr media
Support me on Ko-Fi
• The Sunset Pirates- A Young band of new generation Pirates that has been bulldozing their way into papers as their bounties grew with each passing month. Racking up Billions in damage as they sailed on and becoming on the World Goverment biggest problem
• Each of these young pirates where carving their own paths right into the already scared side if the Goverment
• They each had their own goals in mind. Wishing to better the past generation. Build past the shadows each of them where born in-
• However it was clear one one thing-
• They still had no real idea what the fuck they were doing...
• While the four of them where incredibly skilled in terms of combat and ship maintenance- they were all now incredibly broke.
• "How the fuck are we gonna get money?! We will be out of food in days" Vi protested as the crew sat on the deck trying to have a meeting of sorts to figure out a game plan.
• They had been sailing aimlessly for the last few days and getting close to running out of needed supplies. All of them feeling a strain on their personal pockets-
• "I know I know- We need ideas. Sure destroying shit is fun but we need to make real money here" Dee expressed rubbing his temple, Alucare looking at the crew and rolled his eyes- However he couldn't disagree with them...
• "We need to obviously steal- its how all pirates make their money most of thw time" Alucare pointed out-
• The crew grimaced at this Alucare included, knowing well that they weren't the type of pirates to raid defenseless people and rip gold from their necks or steal Berri from helpless people.
• "Listen it's one think stealing from a rich person but-" Vi started but Dee waved her off before she could finish that sentence.
• "We know, I don't think any of us want that either" Dee expressed. Sighing as everyone fell silent- That was till Bee chuckled to himself suddently and everyone turned their attention to him.
• Bee being the ever extremist yet the only one that seemed to pitch ideas sat up from his lounged position on a barrel with a wide smile like the devil at the crew.
• "So sounds like- We steal from the World Goverment-"
• Everyone Stared at Bee before the Vi and Alucare erupted in disagreement.
"And please do tell, How and where? You cant just say Steal from the World Goverment" Vi argued and Bee smiled "Easy- I heard when we are that ship that you Alu was imprisoned on-"
"Don't call me that-"
"I heard that they where planning to renovate Marine Base 45 with a new Safe after the summer ends since its faulty- We can just break in and steal it. It's broken anyways"
• Bee pitched as the other two crewmates ripped apart the plan. Dee however quietly thinking and giving a defeated sigh "It's the best idea we have-" He finally said making Vi look at his shocked "Are you fucking serious-"
• "This is a bad idea-" Alucare pointed out
• "Do you have one?" Bee shot back, Making the swordsman scowl at him and Vi huff but fall silent-"
• "Since you two are hell bent on this, then you two have someone to help break into the safe- Neither of us know how to" Alucare pointed out. Making the twins look at each other for a moment.
• Dee clicked his tongue and leaned back- Bee smirking as well.
• "Know just the Duo-"
- This is not what Alucare ment by getting a skilled Theif or in this case thieves. Bee and Dee had just returned from grabbing these skilled 'highly skilled pick pockets' but instead Alucare stared at two cherry nosed brats, his eyebrow starting to twitch.
There was two little girls- clearly not even in the double digits in terms of age, both in little pink-tails and dressed in frilly dresses with pale blue eyes like the older twin duo. It didnt take a wild guess to figure out these where their baby sisters.
Vivian was gushing at the two little girls the second their boarded the ship, Leaning down and poking their little cheeks as she swooned at how adorable they were and gifting them candy. A clear softy for kids-
"You've got to be shitting me- You couldn't find anyone who had hit puberty yet?" Alucare growled at the older twins, Dee rolling his eyes.
"You said we needed thieves and this is what I got- Now do you got any better idea?" Alucare scoffed, gesturing to Vi who was still gushing over the girls who where eating up the attention from the redhead.
"You expect us to break into a secure Marine safe with two toddlers-"
"We are right here you know-" Ari grumbled, glaring up at Alucare who sighed heavily at this.
"I'm aware-" Alucare calmly shot back, Looking to Bee and Dee as he rubbed his temple.
"If I knew I'd be babysitting I'd just have went home-" Alucare mumbled- Ali glaring hard at Alucare as she casted her sister a glance.
"We have to get someone else- I understand love for a siblings skills but this is ridiculous. Im not going to let two infants on a dangerous task like this. Your sisters or not- I doubt they could steal candy from each other" Dee and Bee looked at each other and just shrugged. Alucare ready to tear into them again but being quickly cut off.
"Pretty ring- And lots of money!" Ali said loudly to herself, Holding up Alucare prized Ruby ring in her tiny palm the one that Mihawk had gifted him when he left home and his bag of Berri he kept hidden on his person- The dark haired man blinking in confusion before looking at his hand.
"How did you-" He started before snatching the ring and money from the little girl. Ali giggling at this as Did Ari who was scooped up by Vivian.
"Told you- Best damn thieves you can find" Dee waved off, Already suspiciously touching his own pockets as he was sure his sisters had lifted something from him.
"The infamous Bubbles and Squeak- Now if these two can steal from Sir Crocodile, Mihawk and essentially all of the Pirate Lords undetected including cracking ever safe they can get their little fingers on. I'm sure they can steal from the military-" Bee detailed Excluding themselves from the stolen list. Alucare crossing his arms, looking.. impressed?
"These two did all that?-"
Vi commented with a eyebrow at the little girls as she held Ari who was tucked to her side. Looking to the little girl and chuckling a bit in amusement-
"How long do we have them for?"
"72 Hours, Father has our Mother distracted and lied to her about where the girls are for this" Dee explained with a sigh- Knowing their mother would lose her shit finding out they were taking two 7 year olds out on a pirating adventure.
Alucare adjusted the ring on his finger and nodded- Looking to the two little girls calmly.
"Seems we are setting sail to Marine Base 45-"

Your Scars Are Mine
Ch. 2
LA! Mihawk X AFAB!Reader
Tags: Fluff, Smut, Hurt/Comfort, Graphic Mentions of Violence, I guess that's it, I'm bad at this
⚠️ MASSIVE ASS TRIGGER WARNINGS⚠️ : Self-harm, Blood, Implied PTSD
Summary: In the few months that he has known you, Mihawk has noticed the scars on your arm. You've refused to talk about them and skirted around the subject successfully, but a trip to Shells Town throws everything out into the open in a way that neither of you were prepared for.
Ch. 1
Your words hung heavy in the air for a moment, before you opened your eyes, and gave a small smirk.
"But if that was a punishment I'm going to have to misbehave more often."
Mihawk shoved at your hip a little as your smirked widened. "We happen to be on a bit of time crunch, my dear," he reminded you. "I still have an appointment to make."
"Excuses," you said airily, rolling onto your back. You tipped his hat down over your eyes, stretching your arms back out behind your head. "What the hell is a vice admiral doing in Shell's Town anyway?"
"Apart from being a thorn in my side?" Mihawk shifted onto one elbow, his eyes passing over you as you lowered one arm to rest your hand over your bare stomach. His gaze landed on your arm, his mouth turning down in a frown as he took in the scars across it once more, like horizontal stripes across your soft skin, spanning from your delicate wrist to an inch above your elbow. "I imagine still handling the backlash of the sacking of Axe-Hand Morgan."
"He was fired?" you asked, amused. "What, because ofnthe Strawhats?" He gave a small hum in affirmation as you laughed. "That's hilarious." You shifted on the sheets, stretching your back with a slow sigh. "I may just stay right here while you handle your appointment. I don't think I can stomach so many Marines in one place."
"I would request that you venture out long enough to resupply." Another sigh left you, this one in clear protest. You had made quite clear your particular distaste for the company of Marines over the past few months, though not your reasons, a subject you tended to avoid as aptly as your scars. "It would lessen our time here." He rest a hand tentatively over your wrist, and didn't fail to notice how you recoiled slightly when his thumb brushed across a few of the mark. "Put us leaving as soon as I've finish dealing with Garp."
"Fine," you said shortly. Your arm slipped away from his hand, a subtle movement but one with a clear message, and pulled his hat from your head to drop it onto his, sitting up on the bed. You reached behind you and unhooked your torn bra. "The sooner the better. I am the errand girl, after all."
"Are you going to skirt around the subject forever?"
You paused for a moment—a brief, almost imperceptible moment—in picking up your shorts from the floor of the cabins. "No idea what you're referring to," you said casually, tossing his pants onto the bed.
"The scars," he said plainly, shifting to the edge of the bed to pull his pants back on, watching you disappear behind the door of the wardrobe at the other end of the cabin.
"There's no subject," you said, just as calmly, but he was sure he would have seen your shoulders grow tense had you not been hidden behind the door. "I've been on the seas for nearly ten years, anyone would have a few scars after that long."
"Ten," he repeated, his brow furrowed. "You're twenty-four."
"Nearly ten years," you repeated again. "It's not as if I've been pirating the entire time. That's only been...around six years."
"And what precisely were you doing prior to that?"
"It's a long story. And not a very interesting one." You shut the wardrobe, still buttoning a flowy white shirt—long sleeve, as usual, covering your arms. "And we're on a time crunch."
"We'll have all the time in the world after we're done here." As always—it was one step forward and two steps back with you. Mihawk stood and caught you by the waist before you could stroll out of the cabin, turning you to face him. Your shoulders were tensed, your jaw clenched as you met his eyes. "I hate to use our arrangement as pull, but if I must, I will." You averted your gaze as he lifted a hand and brushed a few strands of your hair behind your ear. "I prefer to know those working under me."
"Fine," you said through your teeth, pushing his hand away. "I go play errand-girl, you go play Garp's lap-dog, then we have a nice relaxing interrogation to round it all off, hmm?"
Mihawk lifted his eyebrows, a bit taken aback at how you swatted his hand away—but your scathing tone didn't surprise him too much. He wasn't exactly known for his openness, and it wasn't too big of a stretch that your own largely solitary career had kept you from being particularly open with anyone. That you would be defensive and stubborn to the point of hostility if anyone pushed the present subject.
But he could be plenty stubborn himself.
He lifted his hand again, wrapping it around your chin this time, resting his forehead against yours so you had nowhere else to look except for his eyes. He couldn't expect vulnerability from you without offering the same. Even if it was only a little to start, it was only fair.
He pressed a brief, deep kiss against your lips, and you met his eyes fully when he parted from it. "I love you. I'm fairly certain you are no more accustomed to hearing that than I am to saying it." You glanced away for the barest of moments, the tension in your shoulders easing a bit. "But it's the truth, and...I suppose it means there are certain matters we will need to meet halfway on. This is one of them."
"I already said I'd talk." The outright hostility had gone from your voice, but there was still a little annoyance buried in your quiet tone. "It's just...not an easy subject." There was something else there, sone other emotion, but before he could pinpoint what it was, you sighed and laid your forehead heavily against his broad chest. "Sorry I called you a lap-dog."
"Garp's lap-dog, at that." You hung your head lower with a small whine. "I've severed heads for less."
"Weird." You lifted your head, laying your temple against his shoulder and blinking up at him. "It's almost like you like me or something."
Mihawk could only stare at you in disbelief for a long moment as you grinned cheekily. After a moment he shook his head, rolled his eyes, and wrapped an arm around your waist, pulling you against him.
"Or something," he said, and tilted his head down to pull you into a firm, lingering kiss.
You looped an arm around his neck, sighing softly and melting against him. Priorities briefly forgotten as your fingernails raked lightly down his back, he tugged you closer by your hips and pressed you back against the cabin wall, pushing his tongue into your mouth, hands under the hen of your shirt—
Until a grating CRASH sounded outside, and the small ship lurched violently, immediately breaking your lips apart. He tightened his grip on your waist until the ship grew steady, registering what had happened as the pair of you heard the sounds of shouting and commotion outside. He gritted his teeth, lying his head back with a heavy sigh.
"I believe we've arrived."
"Oh—" Your eyes widened as his meaning truly sunk in. "Oh, sh—"
You shoved away from him, hurrying to push open the door to the deck as Mihawk placed a hand against the wall, pinching at the bridge of his nose. This day was not at all panning out how he had hoped it would—a potential kidnapping, arguing, and now crashing a brand new ship into a town full of Marines. He glanced over when you heaved a sigh of relief and leaned in the doorframe.
"Looks like we just hit the dock," you said, running a hand back through your hair.
"Is that all?" he replied dryly as you headed out onto the deck. He heard the sails lowering as he collected his wits and crossed the room to grab his coat.
"Doesn't look like there are any major damages," you called back.
"No damages?!" Mihawk paused in pulling on his coat, glancing toward the doorframe to see you peering over the railing at the bow of the sloop, as a particularly surly Marine cadet with cropped yellow-blond hair stood overhead on the dock shouting. "You've taken out two of the supports! Are you completely daft?"
You looked up at the cadet. "Not completely," you replied to him pleasantly. "And I assure you I'm more than happy to provide compensation."
"Oh, yes, because a teenage girl in a rowboat can afford the Berry required for structural repairs on an entire dock."
"I'm twenty-four." The pleasantries were quickly leaving your tone. Mihawk quickly strapped Yoru to his back, hellbent on keeping this from turning into any more if a scene than it already was. "And it's hardly my fault that my rowboat is more structurally sound than your dock, sir. Who's in charge here? I would prefer to speak with them directly rather than stand here and be insulted."
"As a senior cadet serving directly under Vice Admiral Garp, I am in charge here, miss."
"Sounds like he wanted you as far away as possible. Can't say I blame him—"
"I will have you know that I—"
"(Y/N)." You jerked your head over your shoulder as Mihawk stepped onto the deck, glancing at the cadet. Up close he recognized the boy as the son of the ex-Captain Axe Hand Morgan, though his name didn't come to mind. Clearly the self-righteous twig recognized him however, as his jaw fell open mid-sentence. You gave a small snort of laughter that you attempted, unsuccessfully, to pass off as clearing your throat. "Finish getting your things, I'll handle this."
"He called my ship a rowboat."
"I'm aware," he said wearily. He place his hand on top of your head and pushed you back a couple steps. You pursed your lips, tossed one last glare at the surly cadet, and stalked off toward the cabins. Mihawk turned his gaze back to the cadet, who stood at attention immediately on the damaged dock. "I'm afraid my associate and I were discussing business and lost track of how close we were to land. Fetch your shipright and have him write up an estimate. I will provide compensation to the vice admiral directly."
"O—of course, sir. My apologies—"
"And send word ahead to Garp that I have arrived. I would prefer not to linger here any longer than necessary."
"S—Sir."
The cadet gave a quick salute and hurried off as quickly as his feet would carry him. Mihawk rolled his eyes and turned, leaning against the back of the bow and crossing his arms while he waited. At least the ship itself had suffered no damages—as he had expected, given the strength of the hull's armor—nor had it hit any other vessels. It was a small blessing, if nothing else.
You emerged from the cabins with your daggers at either side of your belt, the head of a lion carved into each of their ornate ivory hilts that resting at your waist, your belt satchel strapped around your thigh and your throwing knife sheaths around your oposite calf. You were still pulling up one of your brown leather boots as you crossed the deck.
"What a mess," you commented, leaning against the bow next to him and cringing at the sight of the lop-sided dock. He watched you drop your hat onto your head from the corner of his vision, an old and tattered leather tricorne that you refused to replace as much as you refused to discuss its point of origin. "I'll pay for the damages. Being that it's my ship and all."
"If you insist on it, we will split the cost," he said. You glanced at him, frowning. "We're both responsible for losing track of time."
"Fair," you admitted, chuckling a little. "Fifty-fifty it is, then. I'm going to get a head-start on resupplying."
As you put a leg-up on the railing, Mihawk wrapped a hand around your wrist to stop you. You glanced over, frowning curiously.
"You'll be careful," he instructed. "I am under contract with the World Government, but you are not. Keep your head down." You had made your distaste for Marines clear on more than one occasion, and your interaction with Morgan's son minutes earlier did nothing but prove it. "Cadet or otherwise, don't get yourself into any unnecessary altercation."
"I'll be fine," you said confidently. He lifted an eyebrow at you, making his skepticism known. "I will. I've managed to avoid ending up with a bounty for six years. I'm not going to ruin that by making a scene right outside a Marine base."
"Good." He let go of your wrist, turning to the side to watch you climb onto the railing and hop over to the ruined end of the dock. "Out of curiosity," he added slowly, and you looked down over your shoulder, "how have you managed to avoid accruing any bounty?"
"Ah, well, that's the beauty of working as a mercenary, isn't it?" You crouched down, crossing your arms over your knees and leaning forward slightly over the bow, smiling. "Keeping a low profile. I've never spent long enough with any single crew to gain notoriety."
"Then what a lucky little thing you've been." He leaned forward against the bow, glancing around to ensure that no one was nearby, and then curled a hand behind the nape of your neck to briefly press his lips to yours. "Just be careful."
"I promise not to cause you any unnecessary paperwork," you said lightly, smirking. You pressed your lips to his once more before pulling back, his hand slipping away from your neck. "Hopefully your master won't keep you too long."
His mouth turned down in a frown as you grinned. "Don't push it, dear."
"Woof woof."
It took every ounce of his self-control not to seize you by your wrist and pull you right back onto the sloop—but he refrained, shaking his head a little as you straightened out. Your present locale was a bit too public, but it would be a different story when he had you alone later.
You cheekily blew a kiss, and Mihawk lifted an eyebrow, waving one hand in a shooing motion.
"Oh, so cold," you sighed, poking your bottom lip out in a small pout.
"I'd prefer to wait for the real thing."
You rolled your eyes, laughing softly, and his eyes trailed after you as you strolled down the dock and toward town. Still infuriating and intriguing in euqal measure, but Mihawk knew you were capable of handling yourself. If you detested Marines as much as you claimed, there was no doubt you would handle your business in town and return to the docks as quickly as possible.
The shipwright arrived minutes later, an old amicable and heavily bearded man who quickly assessed the damages to the dock and quickly wrote up an invoice. After maneuvering the small ship to the neighboring undamaged dock Mihawk carried a small chest of berry over his shoulder to the Marine base at the center of the town, and turned down escort to the vice admiral's office; he knew his way around well enough.
A cadet opened the door when he knocked, and left after him. Mihawk dropped the chest onto the heavy desk at the center of the sprawling office before rempving Yoru from his back. He took a seat, reclining back in the chair across from the old vice admiral, staring levelly at him.
"For the damages at the docks," said Mihawk, gesturing toward the chest as Garp briefly lifted the lid and looked back across the desk. "The estimate was twelve thousand. You'll find at least fifteen. For the inconvenience."
"Good enough." He push the chest aside to one end of the desk, and leaned forward against it. "You know why I asked you to come by, Mihawk."
"I'm afraid you'll have to enlighten me." He crossed one of his ankles over his oposite knee, folding his hands together. "I presume it must be important. I have a perfectly good transponder that could be utilized for lesser matters."
Garp leaned back in his chair, rubbing a hand into his eyes in clear frustration. "The past couple assignments you've been assigned," he said. "You've sent someone else to complete them."
"I have," he allowed, and lifted his eyebrows. "As I know your other Warlords have done plenty."
"The other six Warlords have crew that are known by the World Government. You don't." Garp leaned an elbow into the arm of his chair, his brow furrowing. "I've heard a few descriptions. I also know the girl's in town. I could send word right now for her to be brought in on sight." Mihawk's brow furrowed as well, his posture tensing the slightest bit, watching as Garp shifted forward again and picked up a pen from his desk. "If you're taking associates under your wing, it's as much your business as it is the Wirld Government's business." He tapped at the paper in front of him, glancing down at it. "Young woman. Late teens to early twenties. Between five-foot-two and five-foot-four inches tall, carries two daggers and a handful of throwing knives. Sound accurate so far?"
"Yes," Mihawk replied through his teeth as he watched Garp write, all at once wondering just how much he honestly valued his alliance with the World Government. One single wrong answer, one wrong move, and Garp could send word down to have you taken into custody. For years Mihawk hadn't had a thing to worry about where this alliance was concerned. Nothing that could be held against him.
He drew in a slow breath, fighting to keep his temper in check in the confines of the vast office.
"Is there anything else?" he asked lightly, lifting his eyebrows.
"Brown leather tricorne hat," Garp went on, his eyes level with Mihawk's. He set the pen down. "A square patch sewn onto the left side of the brim. Couple more on the back." He lifted his eyebrows as Mihawk's drew down in a sharp line. "Hates Marines with a burning passion, I'd guess."
He still kept his mouth shut, his eyes locked onto Garp's as the old vice admiral stared back.
"Your honesty on the subject is tantamount to this girl's continued freedom," he said.
"Yes," Mihawk said again, finally. "I can't seem to see the issue here. She doesn't have a bounty."
"And she won't." He watched Garp pick up his report and crumble it into a ball. He tossed it across the desk, and Mihawk caught it. "So long as the correct people remain in power and she doesn't do anything stupid."
Mihawk glanced at the ball of paper in his hand, and back across at Garp. "Why?"
"She hasn't said?" He gave a hearty laugh. "Ask her how the Marines ruined her life. I'd bet you'll get quite an earful." He shrugged a shoulder. "Or a dagger to the throat, if she takes after her grandmother."
You had mentioned being raised by your grandmother—and being trained by her. Garp bent down in his chair slightly, pulling a drawer out behind his desk, and shutting it. He straightened back out and slid a yellowed old sheet of paper across the desk, torn and crumbled and faded.
A wanted poster. Mihawk lifted it from the desk, scanning over it, over the picture and the name beneath, his brow lifting a bit at the bounty—two billion, six hundred thousand berries.
"Helena Lionne."
At the sketch of a woman that resembled you so remarkably, grinning widely, tilting back the tricorne hat atop her head with an equally familiar dagger. Mihawk glanced up to see the old vice admiral lighting a cigar.
"They called her 'The Siren,'" he said. "She was the big game in town before Roger. We lost count of how many Marines she either killed or seduced. Only reason her bounty didn't rival Roger's is because she never attacked us unless we went after her first. Came out of nowhere, took the Grand Line by storm for a few years, then vanished. As good as anybody can guess now, that was when she decided to start a family. Settled down in a little village on an uncharted island with half of her crew and spent decades off the radar.
"The Admiral that finally found her ten years ago had a personal vendetta. She'd killed his father in front of him while she was still active and then personally delivered his head on a pike to the World Government Headquarters as a warning. They fought it out for a couple days. Destroyed the whole village before he got a hold of her granddaughter and used her as leverage. He never planned on taking her in alive. Slit her throat right in front of the girl and carried her head back to headquarters, along with a few members of her crew that managed to survive, and left the kid there to rot just to add insult to injury."
Mihawk's eyes only left Garp occasionally to glance back down at the old bounty poster. The woman who had raised you. Who you had witnessed murdered and decapitated by a psychotic Marine admiral driven by revenge ten years ago before being left to die simply for sharing her blood.
And now you were wandering a town full of Marines on your own.
God dammit.
"It didn't sit very well with his superiors," said Garp, as Mihawk folded the wanted posted and stuck it in his pocket, remaining silent as he waited for the man to finish. "None of it did. He and the entire crew he took along for the ride were stripped of their merit, discharged, arrested for murder. It took two weeks of interrogation for him to give up the location of the island. Took a few more days to get there from Marineford. Whole island was practically a rock. Not even damn tree left standing. Fourteen year old girl on her own for two and a half weeks, I figured she'd be dead, but her grandma apparently taught her a little more than anyone expected." He shook his head with a scoff, puffing on his cigar. "Little shit had made a spear to catch fish out of a throwing knife and a shovel handle she found in the wreckage. She was halfway finished building a goddamned raft. Kicked and fought the whole way back to the ship. We had to put her in the brig and take her knives because she was threatening to kill any and every Marine she could get her hands on. We still hadn't even figured out what to do with her when she managed to charm some poor fifteen year old cadet into stealing her weapons back and helping her escape on a dinghy. Just as bad as her damned grandmother. I figured she was dead meat then, but I guess she's done pretty well for herself."
"So it seems." Mihawk had no trouble keeping a straight face and a calm demeanor in almost any situation. His stoney expression didn't shift or twitch once while he listened, his posture remaining relaxed as he leaned back in the chair with his hands folded over his stomach. Yet the more Garp said, the more anxious he was growing to get back to you. "As much as I love our little chats, Garp, I do have prior engagements. I'm sure you didn't call me all the way here to just to provide me anecdotes about my, ah, assistant's personal history."
"Yeah, yeah," said Garp gruffly. "You've got a few assignments." Cigar clamped between his teeth, he shifted a few papers around on his desk and found a thick envelope. He tossed it across the desk at Mihawk, who lifted a single hand and caught it without any real effort. "They'll have you headed for the Grand Line. Off the record, I'd appreciate it if you kept an ear out for anything about Luffy. If he you hear he's come in contact with Fire Fist Ace, give me a call."
"Is that all?" Garp held his hands out and gave a short nod, leaning back in his chair and pulling his cigar from his mouth. "Good." Mihawk stood, lifting his sword from beside the chair. "I wish I could say it's been pleasant seeing you."
"Ah, yeah, same to ya." He sighed, making a shooing motion toward the door. "Cold bastard."
"Yes, well." He finished securing Yoru to his back, glancing at Garp. "One doesn't become known as one of the most powerful men in the world by behaving like a bleeding heart fool. That being said...."
He rest his elbow on the back of the chair for a moment, leaning to the side against it.
"Your old psychotic comrade." Garp puffed at his cigar, waiting. "I assume he's the one who gave her the scars?"
"Scars?" He took one last puff, putting out his cigar and furrowing his brow. Garp shook his head slowly. "Well, she had one when we found her. Here." He tapped the side of his neck, a couple inches away from a major artery. "He gave her that one. Planned on slitting her throat if Helena didn't cooperate. Apart from that...." He shook his head and shrugged. "Can't say I'm aware of any others."
Mihawk tapped at the back of the chair for a moment. As clearly perplexed as he was, there was no doubt that Garp was telling the truth. Answers that only led to more questions—this run-around was quickly getting old. He straightened back out.
"I shall contact you once I've finished my chores," Mihawk said finally, waving the envelope before tucking it into his coat. Garp just rolled his eyes, making another shooing motion.
"Feel free to let the door hit you in the ass on the way out."
"Of course."
As soon as he emerged into the empty hall outside the office and shut the door, Mihawk leaned against the wall and rubbed at the bridge of his nose with a quiet growl of frustration. His head was beginning to pound at the onslaught of information Garp had shoved down his throat in the duration of their brief meeting.
Your history, the beginning of your life outside the confines of the law was stained in blood and riddled with the horrors of man—and yet you hadn't mentioned a word of it before strolling off into a town infested with Marines. Nothing except the fact that you detested them and wished to conclude your business here as quickly as possible, indicating that those old wounds weren't entirely healed.
And still no answer to explain those damned scars—and he doubted you were going to open up to that discussion very easily.

Every day I get closer to writing the "You vs YouTwo trying to steal your identity in the Spider Society" fic (which, the fic even has a name as I slowly build it, I'm calling it Imposter Syndrome because, you know, 1 Reader is starting to get depressed and feel unneeded even before YouTwo comes along and 2. Well. It's self explanatory)
But anyways I keep thinking of all of these dramatic interactions and scenes (shit I was listening to John Mulaney stand up just to write dialogue for Peter Porker, for funsies) where, thinking of either Reader being kicked out of the Spider Society and such, and them having to literally hunt you down and search for you, but. What if YOU came to them?
It's been like 3 months since you "died" after the Society mistaking you for your double and removing the dimensional watch that kept you tethered down, and there's a palpable air of depression. Spiders go to the training room you used to teach your classes in and leave flowers and mementos and share stories of their times spent with you. Maybe they even do something fucking dramatic like set up a memorial, like a plaque with your name and photo or something, but, something to help remind them to be wary of who they bring into the Society and appreciate the ones they have and so on so forth, and also like I imagine there were Spiders who were so attached to you that this entire incident makes them leave the Socety for good (like maybe Hobie equates the way you were exiled to fascist tyranny and hates Miguel more than he already does for letting it/helping it happen, for example)
But, anyways, months later, but not too terribly long for them to stsrt to forget about you, just enough time for the guilt and depression and the longing to marinate, and some Spiders are hanging out in the food court, Peter B and Jess and some of the others managing to drag Miguel out of his lab to eat and be around other people because he's just been holing up by himself almost 24/7 since you "left". Dude's a fucking mess, man, you can literally just look at him and see the dark circles under his eyes, the unwashed hair, the body odor because he fucking lives in that suit, and half the cafeteria is wondering if he's about to start crying into his stupid silly ass Miguel burger and
*FWOMP*
Some loud ass undescribable noise as the fabric of the universe suddenly shifts and, you glitch right back in and slam down on the floor besides their table. The entire room freezes as they literally had no idea you were still alive as you scramble to your feet, the first thing you notice being the food as you DIVE for Miguel's burger, snatching it right off his plate and beginning to absolutely devour it like literally gobbling that shit as the man amd everyone else is AGHAST. You've lost a significant amount of weight (like, an unhealthy amount for the time that has passed) and you're covered in bruises and scratches with tears and holes all over your suit. Your hair has knots and tangles and your Spidey suit is beyond dirty with a raggedy jacket and a tattered backpack on your body. You've just been constantly bouncing in and out of different dimensions, ricocheting all over the place this entire time, which made it hard for you to eat, sleep, bathe, do just about anything normally. One minute you're trying to swipe some food from a market because you have no money, the next you're glitching again and you're lost in an apocalyptic wasteland, or a thick jungle, or even places where shapes and colors don't operate the same as we can even comprehend it
You're constantly dropping the food because your hands keep glitching but you're clearly obviously starving, and Pavitr hands you his chai to help wash everything down, but you still pick up several beverages on the table and absolutely chug them as your friends are just stunned into silence, still in shock, quickly morphing into all kinds of different emotions. Joy you're still alive, horror and pity for your current state, guilt and anguish that all of them did this to you. Jesus, have you even been able to drink water? Like if you didn't have Spider powers you probably would have died by now and it's easy to see you're weak on your feet
And from here I see two options and I'll go with the less exciting one first:
Reader is so fucking hungry and malnourished and weak that after the Spiders make room for you to sit at their table and eat their food, you being just genuinely so fucking worn down from constantly not being able to eat and sleep properly, that you basically show up, eat the entire table's worth of food, and all but fall into a food coma right then and there because this is like the first time youve been able to sit and mildly relax for WEEKS, like here comes Spider Plushie for the save like he's trying to slide across home base, loyally stopping in front of you and directly under your head as you just kind of, slump forward, the little guy making the perfect pillow as he keeps your forehead from smacking against the table, and you're just, like O U T out as Miguel cradles you in his arms because, oh my god he thought you were gone forever, and he won't let anyone else touch you as he marches you straight to, wherever the fucking doctors in this place are
But option TWO: suddenly you pause your gorging as some burps rise up in your chest and you suddenly have some calories pushing enough energy to your brain that you finally look around, like REEEEALLY look around. The entire room is dead silent, some starting to cry with joy and relief, others still stunned, many looking absolutely confused, and your eyes eventually meet with Miguel's. He doesn't look quite as run down as you, but WOW is this one sad haggard looking dilf, and you blink at him for a minute. And then look around. And back at him. And around. And to him
And your expression morphs into something so fearful as you force out a nervous laugh, "oh, wait, it's... you guys..." And the second everything clicks for you, you're IMMEDIATELY TAKING OFF, and despite your weakened state you actually make them really work for it because wow that adrenaline kicks in as you for your life because you're thinking "shit they still think I'm the fake and they'll kill me this time if they get their hands on me" when in actuality Miguel is getting his ass on the intercom system ordering all available units to stop you so they can put a bracelet back on you so you aren't lost again, which i mean it is but isnt even a yandere thing at this point, youre literally going to die without some sort of dimensional tether. But during the chase Miguel realizes you aren't using your webs, and you're actually not nearly as fast as he's seen you before, and he realizes with a broken heart, oh Jesus you're literally too malnourished to produce your organic webs within your body, or a lot of it, anyways. You must REALLY be in bad shape
And I imagine like, the chase comes to a halt, not when they catch you, but when your physical exhaustion finally catches up to you. Sweetie you barely ate anything for the last several days, suddenly gorged on a whole spread of food, and then started sprinting and jumping and climbing and parkouring on shit. You HAVE to stop running because you're literally getting sick and VOMITING, like, your former students and fellow Spiderpeople and of course Miguel are hot on your heels and they all pause and give you space because you're literally having to throw up in a gutter with sweat pouring down your face and entire body developing the shakes as, oh no, you feel your strength leaving you as you can't even hold yourself up, collapsing onto the ground, barely conscious as something scoops you up with the gentleness of handling glass, your eyes unable to stay open as you whimper things. "Please don't kill me... I'll leave... I'll never come back..." before you pass out
Miguel has you immediately checked by doctors while the staff have to limit the amount of people trying to come and see you (because, uh, there are a ridiculous amount of Spiders invested in your wellbeing) and only he's in the room as the medical team details your current state. Severe malnutrition, sunburns, broken ribs, a finger or two in crudely-improvised splints, telogen effluvium aka temporary hair loss from illness/extreme stress, you're probably starting to come down with a cold of some sort, potentially something dramatic like pneumonia.
You sleep for like several days straight while hooked up to IVs and fluids because your body just needed to heal THAT badly. By the time you wake up you feel like you're rising from the dead, your entire body aching and heavy, taking minutes to blink yourself awake to take in your new surroundings. You've got a private medical suite that's pretty well-secured, and when you try to scratch a sudden itch on your nose, you feel a weight on your wrist after going to move your arm. Oh, it's another kind of watch, although this one doesn't have nearly all the features and buttons of the first one, and when you keep rotating your wrist over and over, you can't seem to find the latch to take it off, because, well, there isn't one
Miguel is already in the room with you, either having been working on a laptop or just legitimately sitting there watching you sleep for an unknown amount of time, even if its completely dark in the room. He's gotten himself all cleaned up and back to normal and looking like his old self again but he's honestly not even sure what to say to you. Emotions aren't really his strong suit? Where does he start, apologizing for this whole mess or promising it will never happen again?
The only guarantee for now is that you will NOT be leaving Nueva York again, or even so much as leaving his SIGHT, so long as Miguel doesn't want you to, and trust me, after being tricked and having you ripped away from him, to see you in such a vulnerable sad state because of his own actions when all he wanted was to protect you, he's got a whoooole lotta things he wants to do and talk to you about. First and foremost? Vowing that he's going to make everything up to you, starting now, by being your most devout protector

The Sea's Sacrifice (Part 1)
Tumblr media
Characters: AzulAshengrotto / Jade Leech / Floyd Leech x F!Reader
Total Word Count: 14.7k+
Part 1 (You are Here) Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5
Synopsis: A potential job as a marine biologist’s assistant leaves (Y/N) feeling something fishy going on behind the scene…
Author's Notes: Original Idea came from @merakiui 's annonymous ask with a short story / headcannon -> https://www.tumblr.com/merakiui/684490143936167936/ooohhh-i-love-those-writing-ideas-you-had-for-sea?source=share
and I absolutely love this concept and wanted to take it a step further. I don't write yandere nor fanfiction as much as I did a few years ago. However, I do hope I do this piece justice; I will had links to the next part once it is completed and ready for viewing.
Also, this is a work of fiction. I disagree anyone that justifies the following behaviors which are represented in this fic (if I think of more, I will add them as I go):
rape/non-consent/dub-consent, possessive/controlling/dominating behaviors, and manipulation
Cruel and cold like winds on the seas
Will you ever return to me
Hear my voice sing with the tide
My love will never die
Over waves and deep in the blue
I will give up my heart for you
***
If someone were to tell you that you’d eventually be pulled into the wrong end of the sea by, not one but three, unknown sea creatures - you’d probably laugh your head off, thinking they’ve lost their mind.
But how wrong you’d be.
When you had initially applied to work at Twisted Wonders - an emporium of oddities that were collected and studied by the greatest minds in existence - you thought you’d be taking an everyday desk job; answering phone calls, scheduling tours, directing visitors… that sort of thing.
Never in your right mind would you believe that you would be working alongside the Dire Crowley - director and owner of Twisted Wonders. Mr. Crowley was an acclaimed renowned genius with an air that was both mysterious and alluring. He was approximately 170 cm in height (five feet, seven inches) and wore rich tailored clothing made of silks and leather with gold embroidery and jewels embedded into the vest and belt; of course, he upped his strange allure by consistently wearing a heavy leather overcoat that hung to his frame, decorated in black feathers - real or faux, no one was sure, a top hat that perched on his head, and a mask of black that reminded you of a crow - his arched nose hidden under the long rim of the mask that poked out like a beak.
“Here’s the deal, (Y/N),” Mr. Crowley spoke, reclining back in his desk chair as a pair of golden eyes peered out from behind the mask, “We’ve recently acquired three creatures that need to be observed. My team, however, has been unsuccessful at getting remotely close to studying them. They seem to think that an outsider might have a higher success rate at being able to approach them more than any of us will due to their knowing who we are.”
“So, what is it exactly that you want me to do?”
“I want you to observe them,” Mr. Crowley spoke, pushing a contract towards you, “You will work with my group of scientists for about three months as well as the three creatures. You are to notate anything and everything you see the trio doing - how they eat, sleep, react with each other, and so forth - and document everything for our records, no matter how insignificant it is. If you prove your worth and competence within those three months, you will be moved to another position within the facility of your choosing.”
“And that’s it? That’s all I need to do?”
“That’s it.”
‘Seems pretty easy for a payment of twenty dollars an hour…’ you thought as you looked down at the contract before, “And this is my… compliance, right?”
“That would be correct, as well as a safety and confidentiality agreement,” Mr. Crowley answered, offering a pen in your direction.
You took the instrument and wrote your name across the bottom of the page on the dotted line.
“Alright,” Dire Crowley took the contract and stood, pressing a buzzer on his desk, “with everything in order, I’ll have Grimsley take you to meet Divus Crewel and Mozus Trein - the overseers of our aquatic project.”
“I’m sorry, did you say aquatic?” your eyes widened in surprise.
“Dear me, did I forget to mention that part?” Mr. Crowley tapped his chin, his glowing eyes looking up toward the ceiling before returning to rest on your features, “Our newest arrivals are of the oceanic nature - I’ve never met or seen them myself, however Professor Crewel and Professor Trein will be able to go over the basics with you and introduce you to the trio in question.”
“As long as they don’ forget the good stuff!” a snarky voice spoke from behind.
You turned in your chair toward the door to see the man who must’ve been Grimsley.
He was about 163 cm in height with pale skin and dark gray hair with tufts of flame blue poking out in random directions. His eyes also were flame blue and held mischief in their depths that matched the smirk on his face as a set of sharp teeth peered out from behind thin lips. He wore a suit of black with a vest that matched his hair, a black and white-striped tie, and a white dress shirt. Leather loafers padded softly against the carpeted flooring of Crowley's office as he held out a black leather gloved hand in greeting.
"Grimsley Overblot," the man smiled like a Cheshire cat, "I'm Mr. Crowley's henchman and errand runner here at Twisted Wonders."
"(Y/N) (L/N)," you answer, taking Grimsley's hand with a shake, "pleasure to meet you."
“Grimsley, go ahead and take (Y/N) to see the good professors,” Dire Crowley spoke, a satisfied smile on his features, “I’m sure the two are more than ecstatic to meet her.”
***
As it turns out, both men were ecstatic to meet you - though Professor Trein was a bit more reserved about it versus his partner.
Trein's appearance matched his personality - his posture indicated a "no nonsense" aura as did his unchanging features. His lips would quirk into a small smile before they would fall to a straight line as his dark eyes settled on your uneasy form, as if he enjoyed watching you squirm like a germ under the microscope. He was dressed as any scientist would; a heavy white lab coat that fell to his knees hung around his frame that covered a white dress shirt and charcoal-colored dress pants and loafers. His hair was gray with streaks of white and wrinkles covered every inch of his face and neck.  He also wore a set of white pristine gloves and had a cravat around his neck with a singular emerald gem that held the cloth together.
As for his partner, Professor Crewel was a bit more… eccentric. Crewel had a sort of energy about him that reminded you of a young dog - not a puppy, but not an adult either. He was always cocking a smile that bore teeth, chuckling when he patted the top of your head as he called you "puppy." His clothing matched his laidback ideals too - a heavy black and white fur coat with a red silk lining covered the charcoal gray dress shirt and pants. His vest was black on one side, white on the other, and wore a red tie that matched the gloves on his hands.
“So,” Crewel spoke after introductions, pulling a cigarette out of his pants pocket and lighting the object, “any questions before we get you set up?”
“I guess my big question is what exactly will I be working with?” you ask.
“We believe the trio to be mers, but they’re not your typical ones,” Trein explained with a sniff as his features twisted at the smell of Crewel’s smoke,  “All three of them have the upper bodies of men, but lower halfs of sea creatures. Two of the three half the lower half of what we believe to be that of a moray eel and the third the lower half of an octopus. The twins are typically more curious of the three, though they can be aggressive. Several of our closest colleagues were attacked by the duo after accidentally disturbing them - their bites have left scars and one of our colleagues actually lost their leg from their attack.”
“... and you don’t think I will?” you had to question, the comment coming out high-pitched.
“Well, moray eels - specifically - will attack only if they have been disturbed,” Crewel answered nonchalantly, “We believe there are similarities between the animals and the mers, which is why we are gathering as much information as we can. We want to know what the similarities and differences are between moray eels and the twins.”
“Okay, but I still don’t see how I won’t get attacked by those two. And what about the third?”
“You won’t be attacked as long as you stay still and don’t make any sudden movements,” Trein answered, “Once they get used to you, you’ll know.”
“As for the third,” Crewel answered, “he’s a cecaelia - half man, half octopus.”
You blink, “Don’t moray eels eat octopi?”
“Typically, yes,” Trein answered, “which is strange, in this case. The trio were originally found off the coast in the Coral Sea - living in harmony with each other. When we brought them here, the moray mers have consistently been surrounding the grotto that is in the enclosure - the cecaelia hiding within and rarely comes out. We think that the cecaelia may have raised the morays, but we’re not completely sure.”
“And it’s been a devil of a time trying to get a glimpse of him too,” Crewel shook his head, eyes rolling to the ceiling.
“You mean you haven’t seen him? Not once?”
“I saw him when he was first brought into the enclosure,” Trein sighed, “however, it was dark and I couldn’t see him very well - the eels could be seen because of the bioluminescence that exists within their bodies, allowing us to see their figures.”
“Speaking of which, come,” Crewel rested a hand to the small of your back, “let’s get you acquainted with our aquatic trio, hm?”
Crewel and Trein led you to the opposite end of their laboratory where a large glass wall stood with a set of double doors that led to what appeared to be the edge of a massive pool. Once inside, the smell of fish and humidity tickled your nose as the sound of lapping of water reverberated in the slightly dimmed room; the only light being illuminated from the pool itself. The gray walls stretched high, the ceiling covered by long triangular beams that permitted the echoes of voices and lapping water in the room. One the far left was a coat rack and a small freezer with a large fan blowing the heated air around the room.
“When you come in - which will be about six-thirty each morning, you’ll hang your coat on the rack and put your lunch in the freezer before feeding your charges,” Crewel explained, walking over to the freezer and lifting the lid, “We always restock the food the night before, so you don’t have to worry about not having anything in here for the day. There will be nine buckets total in the freezer - three for the morning, three for noon, three for dinner - so make sure you dump all three buckets in the water, but don’t toss the actual bucket into the water.”
“What’s in them?” you ask, wrinkling your nose at the mixture within the buckets.
“A collection of shellfish - shrimp, crab, clam, lobster - and assorted fish are what they primarily eat,” Crewel answered as he closed the lid to the freezer, “We’ve tried feeding the moray twins octopi - but they refuse to touch it and often threw it at the feeders when they came in. Also, feel free to wear something comfortable. The water temperature varies from 45℉ to as low as 39℉ so we have to offset that with the atmosphere in our enclosure here at approximately 77℉ to 85℉ - never mind that one of the twins likes to splash newcomers right off the bat.”
“So, shorts are ok?”
“Shorts would be preferred, so yes,” Crewel nodded.
“But not too short - lower thigh length to knee length is acceptable,” Trein chided, “you are also permitted to wear sandals within the enclosure as well as a t-shirt or tank top due to the humidity. However, if you do choose sandals and tank tops - please bring a spare pair of tennis shoes to wear on the way in and on the way out as closed toed and heels are required within the labs and main building as well as something to keep your shoulders covered; this is a place of employment, not enjoyment.”
When you nod, Trein continued.
“After you feed them their breakfast, take a seat and use the notebooks over here to document any findings,” Trein walks to the opposite end of the enclosure, opening a locker filled with office supplies, “Take whatever you think you might need for the day and have a seat at the edge of the pool and begin your observations. It might take a few days before one of the twins actually approaches you, but once they do, you should be able to start the observations with no problems. During your first few days, remember to stay still - morays attack when startled or provoked, which we don’t want to happen. You’ll let them come to you and, hopefully once you get acquainted, you’ll be able to do your observations with no trouble at all.”
“Alright.”
“Your shift will be twelve hours total,” Trein also explained, “you will be expected to eat lunch with the trio and feed them their supper before you leave for the night at six pm and place any of your notes back in the locker here for Crewel or I to collect at the end of the day. When you leave, make sure the door is locked. Typically, we will be here until eight, so we often check the door on our way out - but just so you are aware, the door does get stuck on occasion; you may need to knock on the door a few times and one of us or our staff will get you out.”
You nod again.
“Alright, are there any questions?” Crewel asked.
“No, I think I’ve got it.”
“Very well,” Trein smiles, “We’ll see you tomorrow at six sharp - no later.”
“Thank you very much for this opportunity,” you bow your head to both of them before shaking each of their offered hands as the two escorted you out of the enclosure - none of you aware of the two sets of heterochromia eyes that watched your figure from below the water’s surface.
***
One week passes slowly as you go through the motions as the Twisted Wonders aquatic observer.
Every morning, you arrive at quarter to six and greet Crewel and Trein at their laboratory doors. After they unlock and head into their own offices, you make your way to the enclosure and place your bag on the coat rack and the brown paper bag that contains your lunch in the freezer before hauling out the three of the nine gallon-sized buckets one at a time and dump the contents into the water, watching a little bit to see if anything will appear to snatch up a meal as the fish disappear into the murky depths of the pool. After watching the last piece of morsel disappear into the depths, you turn toward the locker, grabbing notebooks, pens and anything else you think you need and take a seat at the edge of the pool.
As the hours pass by, you jot notes down about anything you see - which is nothing.
7:30am: Ripples of water, no sign of the creatures
10:30am: Still no sign of the creatures
12:30pm: Fed mers, no sign of breaking the surface yet - maybe they know I am waiting for them and want nothing to do with me?
2:30pm: Still no sign
4:30pm: I heard a splash, but saw nothing. Maybe they’re nervous?
6:00pm: Fed the mers their supper - Hoping to get a sign of them before I leave today.
Day after day after day, the notes were the same: No sign. No sign. No sign.
By the end of the first week, you were beginning to wonder if you actually would ever see the creatures or if they even existed - or even, heaven forbid, if you were a test subject yourself for believing that there were mers that lived in the enclosure.
When Saturday morning came, you trudged into the enclosure with a heavy sigh and slowly began to begin the day’s events. Everything you did now seemed slower as the hope of seeing something otherworldly began to diminish like smoke. You pulled the first bucket of food out of the freezer and brought it to the edge of the pool, dumping the contents in before standing to return the bucket to the side of the freezer when something slimy and light hit the back of your head. Your hand instinctively reached up and brushed the hair behind your head, feeling traces of water and slime. You looked down to see what hit you, finding the bottom half of an unidentifiable colored fish laying behind you.
Your eyes shifted to look out into the pool - but no movement or any indication that something had thrown the half of the fish at you could be seen.
‘Maybe I’m just imagining things,’ you thought as a sigh escaped your lips, picking up the fish and dropping it into the second bucket before it was dumped over the edge of the pool as well.
As you turned your back to grab the last bucket, again something smacked against the back of your head, a clicking sound following shortly afterwards.
‘Ok,’ you thought, a slight smirk appearing on your features as you picked up the large hunk of lobster from the ground, ‘whoever or whatever you are, I’m assuming you want to play. Well, let’s play.’
You grab the last bucket and dump the contents into the water and kneel at the edge - watching like a cat watches a mouse before pouncing. A few moments pass before you feel your back begin to strain, forcing you to stand. As you do, a whole king prawn nearly smacks you in the face as another round of clicking echoes in the enclosure. You whip your face toward the pool, just in time to see two sets of eyes watching you.
Silence defends the enclosure as the three of you stare in silence at one another.
Your heart races as you realize that the creatures staring at you must be the twins.
You can’t see them completely - their entire bodies are hidden under the water while the tops of their heads and their eyes are the only thing being seen from your position at the edge of the pool as they regard you from a few meters away - but you can see that they are nearly mirrors of each other.
They both have skin the color of seaweed with short hair to match - a longer piece the color of deep sea teal arching in the front of their faces. Instead of human ears, they have fins - likely hiding the gills they use to breathe underwater behind them. The one on your left appears to be more cautious than their twin on the right - their eyes are sharp, their right colored brown and left colored gold, and watching every movement you make as if calculating whether to attack you or not. The one on your right appeared to have more of a droopy expression on their face, their lower eyelids dropping into a bored expression, but their gaze is still sharp. Like their twin, their eyes are different colors - the left colored brown and the right colored gold instead.
You swallow thickly, unsure of what to do exactly.
Moray eels attack if provoked, you recalled Crewel saying, so you didn’t want to make any sudden movements in case they read it wrong and attempt anything. However, it seems that the decision is quickly made when the one on your right slowly approaches the edge of the pool. You stay as still as possible as they approach, their eyes locked on yours as if in a trance.
When they reach the edge, you can see the length of his body in the murky depths. His skin is a darker seaweed teal with little stripe patterns on his cheekbones and arms - with likely more on his lower body hidden deeper in the depths. Large fins poke out from his lower arms, giving him and his brother the ability to glide through the water quickly. You couldn’t see his tail, but if you had to guess - you thought he could be approximately six feet in length or longer.
Then, salted sea water covers your entire body, causing you to sputter at the surprise at getting splashed as the moray mer peeled in laughter. His brother follows up with three sharp clicks before the duo disappear under the water, leaving you to wonder what in the world just happened.

Let’s be one another’s present tense
Buggy ‘rescues’ you from an abusive situation, and after a less than stellar introduction, he has you audition for his crew to keep you safe. You want safety, security, and joining a circus seems like the best idea.
Rating: R-ish for now. Warning: Swearing, brief nudity, snarkiness to one another. A/N: This has been sitting in my head as I worked it out for an Anon’s request. I have been really intrigued by this and wanted it to be just right. Also, it gave me the chance to ask my circus obsessed friend about different routines and we bounced some ideas off each other. This is also a touch different than other things I’ve written, which is why I’ve been taking so long to work on it and get it posted. Enjoy!
Title comes from “Crater Lake” by Lady Lamb.

Chapter 3
Settling into life in the tent was easier than you thought. The cot wasn’t that comfortable but you had a blanket and a pillow and it was your bed that you didn’t have to share. No one on the crew made any comments about the newcomer sharing a room with the Captain, but they knew better than to start gossiping. And it was just the room, not the bed. That was very clear and you were grateful for the space.
Though Buggy needed to work on not being naked in the room when you were in there. In the weeks since you arrived, you had woken up at least five times to a very naked pirate getting dressed and while you shrieked at him the first three times, the fourth time you tried to pretend to be asleep while the fifth and final time you allowed yourself a moment to see what he looked like underneath the makeup and uniform. You liked seeing his long hair that he kept hidden away, and he was quite hairy on the chest and stomach, with the color matching what was on his head. You tried not to look down further past his waistline, but you got curious and so you looked and well, damn.
He caught you looking that morning and said nothing, but he winked at you before pulling his pants on.
You couldn’t look him in the eye the rest of the day.
You were ending your fourth week at the circus, now having been there a month. Your black eye was long gone, bruises healed, and you were already feeling more rested from your time in the tent. You had acquired an old Marine uniform for your gig, somehow finding enjoyment in wearing the uniform while pretending to drown. Buggy wanted you to make it a performance with you faking the drowning while you held your breath under water. He refused to let you go longer than three minutes and there was a freak ready to pull you out of the water if you tried to push it.
And while it was… different having someone looking out for you, it was nice. You were friendly with them now, some offering you tips on your performance to get the reactions from the audience (who, as you learned, had no choice but to watch the show as they were chained to their seats). It was, for you, a nice restart to life.
You interacted with your captain the most when you were in the tank, practicing holding your breath. He did it ever since your audition and you wondered if he was worried over you pushing yourself, but at the same time, he also paid that much attention to the others, though he started waiting for you to get out of the tank with clean towels to get you dried off faster and Cabaji was standing by with a hot cup of tea for you.
No one else got a hot cup of tea, just you, but it was just to warm yourself up after being in a tank full of cold water for almost an hour. Lemon ginger seemed to be what was available, and after you mentioned in passing to Cabaji about once having a lavender and mint blend, you were surprised to have it a week later. Cabaji said nothing as he handed it to you, though he glanced at his captain as Buggy handed you a warm towel.
You didn’t say anything to Buggy but you did smile at him as you took a sip of it. He pretended not to notice.
After a month in the tent you felt a little more comfortable with him. You called him Captain, he called you Cupcake, but occasionally you’d call him an asshole when he annoyed you or he’d call you a diva if he felt you messed up your routine (how do you mess up holding your breath?). It was chaotic at times, the two of you throwing petty insults at each other while everyone listened.
After one rehearsal, where you kept coming up for a breath every 45 seconds, Buggy finally couldn’t take it.
“Did you forget how to hold your breath already?!”
You spat water in his direction before splashing some out of the tank at him. “Hard to concentrate when you keep staring at me through the glass, you asshole!”
“I’m making sure your technique is right!”
“You don’t even know what I’m doing!” You shot back. “Why don’t you get up here and show me?”
“Did you forget something?” He looked at you like you were an idiot as his hands popped off his wrists. Oh, well, you kind of did forget he couldn’t get in the tank because there was occasionally sea water mixed in and you didn’t think it would be fair if the captain drowned during your practice routine. One hand flipped you off while the other went to the top of your head, dunking you under water just for a moment before returning to Buggy.
You came back up and grabbed onto the ledge, sticking your tongue out at him before your helper hoisted you out. Buggy didn’t wait around with towels, but Cabaji was there with your tea while you climbed out of the tank and went down the ladder. You took the cup and grumbled something about annoying captains and he needs to shut up while taking a few sips. Cabaji did get you one towel in the end, which really didn’t do much to dry you off, so you marched back to your shared room, leaving a wet trail behind you.
The room was empty, which was perfect because you didn’t need him critiquing you getting undressed. You shut the door and set your tea down before grabbing a dry pair of pants to put on.
“‘Oh, I’m just making sure your technique is right!’” You repeated mockingly as you pulled your wet clothes off and draped them over a chair. “‘Oh, did you forget how to hold your breath?’ Blah blah blah, I’m Buggy, I know everything even if I never did that routine before.” You dried your face with the towel before moving onto the rest of your body. “Asshole, distracting me while I’m trying to practice not drowning.”
“I wasn’t distracting you, just making sure you weren’t distracted.”
You stopped what you were doing and turned around to throw your wet towel at him. He managed to enter the room without you noticing and he was lucky it was just a wet towel you threw at him and not your tea. You were very naked and you really didn’t need him in the room with you while you were that exposed.
“Really? The door was shut!” You snapped as you hastily pulled a pair of pants on. You didn’t grab a shirt so you went to the wardrobe to find one, grabbing the first thing you saw. It was one of his, but honestly, you didn’t care because you didn’t need to be yelling at your captain while topless. “Learn to knock, asshole!”
“It’s my room first!” He shot back as he threw the towel on the ground. “You get the privilege of sleeping in here, so watch it or you’ll sleep in the lion’s cage!”
“At least the lion wouldn’t barge in on me when I’m naked!”
“You’ve seen me naked countless times! What’s the big deal?”
“I told you to stop being naked when I’m in the room!” You exclaimed. “Boundaries, Captain, boundaries!”
“You never said anything about me being in the room while you’re naked!”
“I shouldn’t have to!” You rubbed your face as you sat down on his bed. “It’s like talking to a brick wall.”
“At least I’m better looking than a brick wall.” He grumbled as he kicked the towel away. You sighed and nodded.
“You’re not wrong about that.” You retorted. “I’d rather look at you than a brick wall. You at least talk back.”
Buggy crossed his arms and just shrugged as he looked you over. “Well, you seem okay. Just don’t drown. Cabaji likes having you around and he’s been more focused since you arrived.”
Huh, weird, okay. You shrugged as you looked up at him, your hair damp and hanging loosely around your face. It was a bit of a nuisance in the water and you thought about cutting it short, not to mention drying it was obnoxious. Buggy looked you over again before he walked over to you. He reached out and touched a lock of your hair before tucking it behind your ear.
“You need a better hairstyle, Cupcake.” He told you as he pulled his hand back. With how loud he was, passionate, intense, he had these random moments of being soft and gentle around you which completely threw you off. You never knew when to expect it but you liked seeing it wondering if he was like this with the others. “That’s the next thing we have to work on. It’s only been a month, y’know, but I want you to look your best when you perform.”
“What d’you have in mind for my hair?” You asked. You almost regretted it because he was now grinning at you and in the short time you knew your captain, that grin meant something chaotic was about to happen.
~
So, you didn’t really hate the haircut but you didn’t love it.
Neutral, you were neutral, and you whispered to yourself that your hair will grow back. You shouldn’t have let Buggy near you with a knife after you two argued, and you made the mistake of telling him he was getting your hair way too short and… he may have taken a chunk of hair off that he didn’t mean to because you jerked away from him suddenly.
At least he evened out the mistake by doing the same to the other side.
Your hair was shorn on the sides, with it tapering up to the top of your head where he trimmed it so you still had some body to your hair. You could style it if you wanted, letting it stick up in any direction, or let it sit on the top of your head. Cabaji thought you copied his style, and maybe you did, but his hair was at least longer and could easily comb over to either side. Your hair looked like you let someone with a knife too close to your head and that someone didn’t quite know what they were doing, but they wanted to try it anyway.
Yea, you weren’t going to let Buggy near you for a haircut again.
“It’s going to grow back, it’s going to grow back.” You chanted quietly every day for two weeks. Admittedly, having less hair meant you spent less time drying your hair, and you now didn’t have to figure out how to keep it out of your face when you were getting out of the water. Before it was just a rubber band, but your bangs had been at that length of too long to be out of your eyes but too short to be in a ponytail and since Buggy gave you a new style, your bangs sat just above your eyebrows now.
It wasn’t a terrible haircut and he had looked rather proud of his work. He even gave your cheek a pinch when he was done, and it didn’t really hurt but your skin was pink where he touched you, and honestly, you were starting to get used to him touching you.
A month and a half under the tent and you were seeing that Buggy was often touchy with his performers. Not in a creepy way, but his hands would guide them to make sure they hit their mark right, or he’d detach his feet to use as markers for Cabaji to steer his unicycle towards. It was at your seven week mark that you saw him start to get a bit touchier with you.
He kept a hand near the tank while you practiced holding your breath, ready to pull you out if your helper wasn’t fast enough. His other hand would take the tea from Cabaji and give it to you by the time you got down the ladder while he walked up to you with warm towels. The hand that was at the tank grabbed a towel and draped it over your head to help get you dry faster. You appreciated the help, recalling your audition when several of your fellow freaks swarmed you with towels, drying you off quickly to make sure you were okay.
Now it was just the captain taking a few minutes to help you out.
It was kind of nice. He made sure your hair was dry before wiping your face with the towel, though you had to tell him to be a little gentler as he poked you in the eye twice.
“Oh please, that’s not the worst thing I can do to you.” He said with a smirk as you stuck your tongue out at him. “Watch it with that or I’ll cut it out.”
“You haven’t yet.” You shot back playfully as you draped the towel over your shoulders. “I’m going to change into dry clothes so please don’t walk in on me this time.”
He winked at you and you just rolled your eyes as you left the area. The banter was something you started to get used to. Yea, you two still got into petty little arguments, but who didn’t when you worked together? Buggy knew what he wanted from his performers, and while you never ever thought you’d be any kind of performer, you found you liked it. You liked the reactions from the audience, and you liked watching the others perform (watching someone breathe fire never ceased to amaze you).
Honestly, you wished you joined the circus sooner.

Billy Russo x reader (aaaand some Frank Castle x reader)
Summary: You miss going to the movies while on deployment. Billy decides to give you a surprise, but it doesn't go quite the way he planned.
Notes: I have no idea how life while deployment is like, so sorry for any errors. But hey, fiction. And in this world Frank haven't met Maria yet. This is the first time writing Frank... and also first time writing a threesome, so be gentle 😅
Also thank you to @thisishellfire for sending this request ❤️
If people like this, I have an idea for a part 2. So let me know 😅🙈
Warnings: Oh God, so many. Fluff, pining, kissing. SMUT! Oral (m and f receiving), fingering (both vag and anal), unprotected sex, anal sex, juices for lube (I know, but I dont think marines carry around lube), double penetration, cock warming. Feelings and more fluff.
Words: 3.1 K

If there was one thing you missed when being away on deployment, it was movies. Sitting there in the dark, eating your popcorn while enjoying a movie. You, Billy, and Frank had talked about what you were looking forward to the most about getting home again. For you, it was a silly little thing like a movie. But that would still be months away. So for now, you were settling for one of Billy’s books.
“Hey there, short stack.” Billy teases as he sits down on his bed opposite yours. Eyes never leaving the book, you just flip him the finger and even though you don’t look, you know he’s flashing you his brightest smile. “Aw, is that how you greet all your friends?”
“Who says we’re friends?” You counter with a smile, eliciting a chuckle from Billy. When he still doesn’t move, you close your book and look at him. “What, Billy?”
“I have a surprise for you.” He’s very excited, practically jumping in his seat. You don’t think you’ve ever seen him like this. You’re about to dismiss him, knowing better than to trust Billy after some of the pranks he’s pulled on you. But when he stares at you with those deep dark eyes, how can you refuse? With a heavy sigh you sit up on the bed.
“Come on.” He holds out his hand and you take it, still confused. He leads you out of your quarters while you make small protests and into one of the abandoned tents on base. “Billy, what are we doin-”
But you stop, speechless at the sight before you. A small, slightly worn couch with some pillows and some crates with a laptop on top. What is this? And where did he even find a couch?
“I know it’s not a movie theater and-” he walks to the couch where he pulls out some water bottles and a small bowl of popcorn and gummy bears. “This is nowhere near as good as the large popcorn you usually devour and the giant soda, but you missed watching movies, so.” He shrugs, smiling softly.
“Billy, I…” You don’t even know what to say. This is really so sweet and so unexpected. Half expecting it’s all just a prank because of what you told him and Frank yesterday, you’re weary about sitting down. Billy, who clearly senses your apprehension, walks up to you, his smile faltering a bit.
“I just wanted to do something nice for you.” He looks away, about to walk out of the tent when you stop him.
“Thank you. It’s really sweet of you. It’s just so unexpected.”
“I can be nice, you know?” He says with a grin, that perfect boyish smile of his that always make you weak in the knees.
“Okay, so…” He sits down, powering up the laptop while you join him. “I borrowed this from Stevenson, but she only have a few movies saved on this one and she has a horrible taste in movies.” Billy makes a horrified face that makes you laugh as he opens the folder. “There’s a chick flick, some drama or that Gray thing. Could be horror.”
When you see one of your favorite films, Dorian Gray, you squeal with joy, only confusing Billy. “Are you kidding me? Dorian Gray? I love that movie! Ben Barnes looks so good in that one.”
You do a little excited dance in your seat, and you can tell Billy have already regretted doing this for you. But as he sees your smile, he just rolls his eyes and start the movie.
It’s barely been a minute before you sigh softly. Billy chuckles beside you, clearly finding it amusing how attracted you are to the man on screen. But you haven’t been on a date in ages, haven’t had sex in months, so could he really blame you?
“He is so cute.” You sigh, stuffing another gummy bear into your mouth. If only there were men like him in real life. Well, the things Dorian does are questionable, but the hotness would be great. Billy shift beside you, causing you to look at him. He actually does look a little like the actor, if he grew out his hair and removed the beard. And well… If he was younger. “You look a lot like him, actually.”
“Oh, so you think I’m cute?” He smirks, nudging your shoulder.
“Oh, shut up. You know you’re gorgeous.”
You don’t even have to look at him to know that shit eating grin of his is there as he is staring you down. You just ignore him, not wanting to give him the satisfaction of looking at him again.
Tumblr media
28 minutes into the movie is the scene that always leave you yearning. There’s something about the look in Dorian’s eyes that would make you do whatever that man asked of you. Without even thinking, you clench your legs together with a heavy sigh.
“If anyone ever gave me that look, I’d suck their dick in a second.”
“Really?” Billy asks curiously, turning his body slightly towards yours. But you don’t even notice, to focused on the screen. A soft ‘yeah’ leave your lips, the yearning palpable. It’s been months since you were with someone and in this moment you don’t even care if Billy thinks you’re pathetic.
You feel him shift beside you and when you look at him, Billy is giving you the same look as Dorian. Eyes dark with desire, full of promises of all the pleasure to come.
“What are you… Wait, do you want me to…?”
With a smile, Billy starts to unbuckle his pants. You stop him, your hand gently moving his away. Your hand travel along his waistband, unbuttoning his pants with ease. Slowly, you pull the zipper down, your eyes never leaving Billy’s.
Your finger digs under his waistband, pulling his pants down with ease. Billy’s cock springs free, already hard and leaking precum. His dark eyes watch your every move, as you fall to your knees between his legs, gently pushing them apart before your hand grip around the base of his cock.
Billy lets out a sigh, his right hand grabbing a fistful of your hair as you slowly run your hand up and down his shaft. He leans back, his eyes shut in pleasure, as you lick up the length of his cock. His hand in your hair tightens while his free hand grips at the couch, his dark eyes now opens as he focuses on your tongue sliding around the head of his cock.
“How the movie-” Frank’s voice interrupts you and as both you and Billy look to the opening, Frank is rooted in place, shocked over the sight before him.
“Did I tell you to stop?” Billy asks, his voice soft but demanding, his hand in your hair pulling your attention back to him. Well aware that Frank is staring at you, your face turns bright red as you once again focus on Billy’s aching cock.
His body shudders with pleasure as you take him into your mouth, his heels digging into the floor to keep him grounded. You take his cock deeper, drawing a sweet moan from Billy’s lips. Your tongue dance over his heated skin, drool slipping past your lips and down his throbbing cock.
Billy looks to the side, seeing Frank still standing in the doorway, staring intently at the way you work his cock. “Enjoying the show, Frankie?” Billy moans as you take him to the root, his cock hitting the back of your throat.
“Fuck sweetheart.” Frank breathes out, his hand travelling to his cock to adjust himself. His eyes linger on you when you pull back, until only Billy’s tip remains in your mouth, lightly sucking the head. Your eyes find Billy’s, a mischievous grin as you swirl your tongue around his tip.
“Good girl. Sure you don’t want in on this, Frankie?” Billy tears his eyes away from yours, looking into Franks eyes. Swallowing hard, he turns and close the tent door, making sure no one else could enter. Slowly, he makes his way over to the couch, his eyes never leaving your mouth working Billy’s thick length.
Gripping your hair, Billy pulls you off his cock, his free hand caressing your cheek. “You’ve done so good baby. Now, get your ass onto the couch.”
“Wait.” Frank stops you once you’re on your feet, quickly removing your pants and underwear. With the help from Billy, they get you onto the couch, Billy claiming your lips in a heated kiss as Frank kiss down the column of your neck. Working in sync, they remove your tank top and bra, leaving you naked between them.
Billy’s mouth soon joins Franks, peppering kisses on your soft skin. He moves down your body, now his turn to be on his knees in front of you. Placing soft kisses on your inner thighs, he watches as Frank kiss you hard, your hand traveling to the bulge in his pants.
“Why don’t you show Frank how good you are with that mouth, baby girl, while I take care of you?”
Frank unbuckles his pants, making quick work at removing them, revealing his thick length. You grin, tongue running over your lips before placing them around the head of Frank’s cock. He gasps at the feeling, been months since he’s felt the touch of anything besides his own hand. His brown eyes watch you intently as your mouth encircles him, sucking gently.
“Feel good, Frankie?” Billy ask with a smile, as he place a tender kiss on your mound. You gasp around Frank’s cock, moaning as Billy’s tongue lick up your slit. He gives a low growl, and his tongue flicks out to taste her again. His tongue works against her heated sex, tasting, sucking and nibbling on the tender flesh. Billy push two fingers into you, working you open as you suck Franks cock with greed.
Franks hips buck into your mouth, driving his cock deeper into your throat as his hand grips your hair, holding you in place. You gag around his length as Frank continues to thrust into your mouth.
“Fuck, baby doll.” He gasps, his eyes closing in bliss at the feeling of your warm tongue on his cock. “So good. You’re so good.”
You moan out loud, having never felt this good before. Billy’s fingers keep hitting that sweet spot inside you and his talented tongue helping, bringing you closer to the edge. Frank’s free hand cups your cheek, caressing you as he whispers soft praises over how well you take his cock.
It only takes a few more flicks of Billy’s tongue before you come, Billy’s name falling from your lips as you come undone. He works you through it, kissing and licking softly as you come down from your high. He looks at Frank, the two of them exchanging a smile.
“You’re doing so good, sweetheart.” Frank praises, his thumb rubbing your cheek in soothing circles.
“So perfect.” Billy follows, kissing your thighs before looking up at you.
“B-Billy…” You whimper, your breathing still strained. Billy’s hands caress your thighs, his lust blown eyes locked with yours. “What is it, baby?”
“More.” You pant, your pleading eyes darting between Billy and Frank. “I need more…” You whisper. Billy’s eyes widen and he looks at Frank with a smile.
“What do you say, Frankie? Should we give her what she wants?” Billy get up off the floor, kneeling on the couch beside you. His pants hand loose on his hips, his throbbing cock begging for attention. but he tears your gaze away, looking into your eyes as he gives you a soft kiss. “You want us both, sweetheart?”
“Yes… Please.” You whimper. Billy sits down on the couch, pulling you in to straddle his lap. Frank walks up behind you, brushing the hair away from your neck, placing soft kisses on your shoulder and neck. Billy’s hands squeeze your hips gently, pulling you closer against his erection.
With just a glance, Billy and Frank come to an agreement. Frank’s fingers gather some of your juices, one of his thick digits pressing against your tight hole. You gasp at the feeling, but soon forget as Billy start rubbing your clit. As Frank continues to work your ass open, Billy makes sure you feel good and relax for them. You come hard, his soft-spoken praises in your ear once again bringing you over the edge.
“What do you say, sweetheart? You ready for us?” Billy asks tenderly, his smooth voice causing you to shiver. Frank’s hands caress your hips, waiting for you to speak. They patiently wait for you, not wanting to move before you do. You nod, cheeks flushed red as you feel both men’s gaze on you.
Frank leans in, his breath ghosting over the soft skin of your neck, placing a soft kiss just below your ear, before he hums. “Words, sweetheart.”
“Y-yes. Please.”
Delicately, almost like they’re afraid you’ll break, Billy lift you up, lining his weeping cock up at your entrance. Slowly he lowers you onto his aching length until he’s fully sheathed in your velvety heat. You shudder above him, gasping as his thick cock stretch you open.
“Fuck, Billy.” You gasp out his name, bracing yourself against him as he pulls out and thrust back into you. Lost in the feeling of him, you forget about Frank until he chuckles softly behind you, patting your ass playfully.
“You forgot I was here, beautiful? Does Billy’s cock feel that good?” He nipples at your ear, causing your skin to break out in goosebumps. Your whine is all the confirmation they need, a happy smirk forming on Billy’s beautiful face. Billy gestures to Frank, pulling you closer to make more room for him. Frank takes the hint, gathering up some of your slick and his own spit, wetting his cock.
“This may hurt, sweetheart. Just breathe.” He coos, lining his cock up at your tight entrance. You tense for a second, but forget it all when Billy claims your lips in a passionate kiss. His finger on your clit distracts you, making you relax as Frank push the head of his cock inside.
You whimper as Frank push in slowly, taking his time. Billy leaves a trail of kisses down the column of your neck, whispering softly in you ear of how good you are while Frank caress your back, easing into you. With some patience, Frank push himself all the way to the hilt, growling as he bottoms out.
It’s all too much, both of them fully sheathed in you, their throbbing cocks stretching you open. Billy’s fingers still dance over your clit, their free hands caressing your curves.
“You okay there, baby?” Billy ask, his eyes fixed on your even though they are closed from pure bliss. With a barely audible yes that makes both men grin, they start moving.
Moving in sync, the men breathe hard against you, both of them thrusting into you faster. You’ve never been more full, more satisfied in your life. Throwing your head back against Frank, he kiss your neck, fucking you harder.
“Nah, Frankie. She’s mine.” Billy breathes out, thrusting deeper as he cups your cheek, pulling you in for a passionate kiss. You moan against his lips when suddenly, another wave of pleasure wash over you. With Billy’s name on your lips, you come harder than you’ve ever done before.
Billy feels another wave of pleasure at how vulnerable you look. Usually you’re strong, independent and feisty. But now, in this moment, you look so small, delicate. Completely at their mercy and honestly he’s never wanted you more. Your cheeks flushed, eyes clouded with lust and tears in the corners of your eyes from the sheer pleasure you feel from them both.
“Fuck!” Frank grunts from behind, gripping your hips so hard its sure to leave bruises as he buries his cock in you, spilling his hot seed in you. The sight of Frank’s face torn in pleasure and you moaning out their names in bliss, is too much for Billy. He throws his head back as he gives in. He comes hard, filling you with his cum as your name spill over his lips.
You stay like this for a moment, only the sound of your shared breathing filling the tent. You’re slumped against Billy, his cock still throbbing inside you, as Frank stand panting behind you, hands loosing on your hips. When Frank pulls out slowly, you open your eyes only to see Billy with his shut with the biggest smile on his face.
When he opens his eyes, his dark orbs find yours. His eyes are softer now, the way he’s looking at you different than before. But even though you secretly like Billy, you dare not hope, knowing how he is with women.
But what you didn’t know was that for the first time, Billy truly saw you. Your cheeks red, eyes still unfocused and your hair a mess. But most of all he saw your smile. God, you’re truly beautiful. Your eyes find his, softer whenever you look at him than with anyone else.
Sensing the shift between you and Billy, Frank picks his pants up from the floor, the action causing both you and Billy to look at him. Suddenly you feel guilty over the attention you’ve given Billy, never wanting Frank to think he wasn’t wanted.
“Frank, I-”
“No need to worry about me, baby.” He give you a boyish smile as he close his pants, closing the gab between you. “I still had fun.”
Giving you one last soft kiss, he begins to walk away, but turn hallway to the tent opening. “Besides… I got this girl at home I’ve been wanting to take on a date. Quality, you know.”
He gives Billy a little wink, before he walks out of the tent, leaving you and Billy alone. That’s when you realize you’re still naked and his softening cock still is inside you. Suddenly you feel very exposed, the confidence from before gone and left only the insecurity you’ve always felt around Billy. You know you’re nothing like the girls be brag about from home. But the smile on his face gives you hope that maybe, just maybe, you’re not just another notch in his belt.
“Even though it didn’t go as I planned, I hope you still like the surprise.” Billy says, gently brushing your wild hair behind your ear.
“I did.” You chuckle, running your hands down his chest, to the little scar on his belly. “What did Frank mean by quality?”
He just smiles, grabbing one of the blankets beside him, wrapping it around your shoulders. Pulling you into his embrace, he kiss you softly before letting you rest against his chest. “Just something Frank told me the other day. And I think I know what he was talking about now.”
