well first of all i’m 22 so in terms of this fandom i guess i am not “young” - gay is an umbrella term. you can argue not everyone likes to use it as such but that doesn’t change the fact that it is for many. when dream stated he’s not gay, it was very clear he meant it in the specific label way, as he would mention being attracted to girls - not in the umbrella term way.

in this same argument you could say it’s not right to call him queer, since it’s a reclaimed slur that many in the community aren’t comfortable with and he himself has not stated that he is comfortable with that label

You do understand that no matter with what intention you're using the word gay, you're still calling gay someone who said he's not? Like, okay, fine, use it as an umbrella term for you or your friends if they are okay with it, but if someone clarifies in more than one occasion that they're not gay, they clearly do not want to be called gay.

Think of it as calling trans someone who's non binary. Some people will say they're trans because they're non binary. Some people will say they're not trans, they're non binary. And that is okay. You don't go to someone and say "uhm, actually, nowadays trans is also an umbrella term and therefore you're trans". You just respect the decision each one made and refer to them as they prefer. Simple as that.

And the difference between queer and gay is that queer has been reclaimed in the 90s (30 years ago) and gay as an umbrella term is maximum ten years old. I would even say five if you grew up in conservative areas (Dream grew in this kind of space, it would be pretty reasonable that he stills associate the word gay with mlm instead of something more fluid). Ten years might sound like a lot, but I promise is not. Especially when we're talking about the normalization or the adaptation in meaning of an existing word.

And yeah, he hasn't expressed he's comfortable with the word queer, but he has expressed being uncomfortable with the label gay (though not directly, but cmon, read the text, hear him talk, it's clear). So let's start with the things we know he doesn't want for sure like being called gay or unlabeled.

I don't think Dust wouldn't get scruffed really, being picked up like that could be very panic inducing I feel like, especially since it removes his hood and messes with his scarf. He's not much of a trouble maker anyways. Though, maybe being picked up like from under his arms would be better, he knows he can't get out of Horror's grip (not without hurting him) so he just goes limp. Horror picks him up for being mean to Killer and it's an immediate slump.

Cross I'm not sure. I don't think he'd be scruffed too much just cause it'd be kinda awkward, they don't know each other that well yet for that kinda bond. Also with his need to be perfect, being physically stopped from misbehaving? He is not having a good time, he feels like a failure. I could see it more like... If he's being hard on himself, like cross insisting: "no, I'm fine, I should train two more hours after having already done eight!" And Horror is just like too bad get scruffed bitch. And Cross could get out of Horror's grip, but the hold is kinda comfortable and he is pretty tired and if Horror's picking him up then he should probably listen right? (Haha what a liar, he loves being taken care of and picked up, touch starved ass)

It'd be kinda funny for Horror to pick Nm up, though I feel like it'd just be reflex, like he's gotten Killer away from danger so many times just by grabbing his hood that one day on a mission he grabs Nightmare's cloak hood, Nightmare's stunned and get kinda choked, he looks back at Horror with a look, my god, if looks could make people melt into the ground that would have done it. And maybe like at home? Kinda like for Cross, when Nm's working too hard Horror comes and picks him up, it goes like this "Put me down you insolent fool! Do you know who I am-" And Horror just says he needs to eat. And Nm knows when it's about food there's nothing to try with Horror. He's all petty like "I can walk there myself" Only to be told "yeah but would you have?" *ensue Nm avoiding eye contact* "that's what I thought." And he just keeps him in his hold, and they don't really talk about it.

Whew this has gotten way too long, sorry man you just give me so many ideas 😭.

okay guys hello hi so a (more serious) post before we’re back to the sillies but like I’ve seen a bit of this in the QSMP community recently and I feel like it needs to be addressed

you’re free to dislike a creator/cc’s fanbase, but don’t lump them all together. Every fanbase has its different parts, and that means that not everybody is the same. I’ve seen this most with Wilbur and Phil mains, how people are like “oh you’re oblivious and don’t care to watch other streamers” or whatever it is, and often they get accused of summing characters/creators up to all they know them as through Phil or Wilbur or their relationships with other characters. This isn’t to say that doesn’t happen, but it’s not nearly as common as many seem to think!

This is coming from someone who has been watching Phil for going on four years now; we know more than you think, and often there are actual reasons for why we don’t watch other ccs. For me, it’s because I can rarely tune in when people are actually live thanks to school and work and such, so I take to watching vods and clips to keep caught up on the events. I am also not fully bilingual (English, and I speak partial Spanish but fast Spanish still confuses me sometimes) which makes it hard to watch people like the Brazilian or French players (I don’t speak either language) outside of clips where they’re playing with the English or Spanish speakers! As a result, my knowledge of many of them (Mike, Bagi, Antoine, etc) is pretty limited. I try my best to keep up with everyone on character stuff, but it can be hard if we’re busy. Another thing is that a large part of (especially) Phil’s fanbase are adults, who have families or college or work and they can’t always keep up with every minute detail or trait of characters, and I know this is true for many other cc’s fanbases as well.

of course, everybody is allowed to have their own opinions, and it’s okay if you aren’t a fan of a cc or their fans! All I’m asking is that we don’t hate on those creators or their fans, especially if it’s because you’ve had not great experiences with some of their fans. Often I think the former DSMP members fans are seen as stupid little kids who are toxic and childish, while in reality most of us are over 16 or even adults. Phil, Foolish, Slime, Quackity, etc were never really the problematic part of the dsmp fanbase, which was kind of split into Techno’s friends and their fans (who were always pretty chill for the most part) and then dream’s friends and their fans (who were and still are pretty problematic a lot of the time). I never was a huge dsmp enjoyer, so I never really watched the lore and preferred to watch their other stuff, but I always disliked the dream team and their little group, they always rubbed me the wrong way.

I only truly watch Phil’s streams, but I’ve taken up watching Cellbit and Fit as well, even if I can’t understand Cellbit sometimes, so remember that we won’t know everything niche about characters because of the language barriers! Don’t be a dick or rude to people who are unaware of certain parts of lore and such because they don’t watch multiple creators, we want to keep the QSMP fandom a chill safe place where people don’t feel hated or excluded just because of which creator(s) they watch, so in summary just be nice to everyone and don’t hate on people just because they don’t do things the same way as you. This community was created with the purpose of bringing people together and breaking barriers, so let’s try and keep that moral in mind while interacting with other fans!

TLDR: you’re free to dislike creators or their fans, just don’t lump them all together and say they’re all clueless or don’t care about any other characters! Let’s keep the point of the QSMP fandom what Quackity intended—breaking language barriers and bringing people together/lifting them up instead of putting them down :)

But in saying all of that, I don't really feel comfortable with others comparing 14DWY with other games/characters unless I bring it up first. It's purely out of respect for both creators (imagine building a passion project only for everyone to talk about something bigger/better/unrelated) — and also because it usually gives people the wrong idea about my characters ;v; (I can't tell you the amount of times people have asked me about Hannah being in a cult; all because they thought Ren was similar to 707 T_T)

It just made sense to me he'd be throwing holy water at trick or treaters because halloween tends to be seen as like a fucked up evil holiday, and father Gregor is, wel,l a priest so it wasnt too much of a streth for me that he'd just hate halloween because its fucked up and evil

I don't know what can be done, but I do want to mention I wasn't trying to ask anyone in particular to do something, that server was just one group of people that had the most fans working on saving the show and people with bigger 'official' accounts, if you know what I mean. so I thought that would be a good place to share my thoughts.

I was. uh. wrong. there were more of you than I thought. I did not exit unscathed.

but anyways lol yeah this isn't something one person can, should, and will have to change. i don't think it's a server mod problem. also I learned I kinda came in at a bad time, I apologize for that.... whoops lol

anyways, the main problem I was having with everything was how fake it all seemed from the outside, just something to drum up interest, no real love in the piece itself. and if you WERENT doing that all the time, you didn't care about the show. it felt shoved in your face. i missed when we made things out of love, not just putting anything out there to get a tag to trend. i missed when we were creating because we wanted to make something to show we LOVED lockwood and co, not because we wanted to bring attention to Lockwood and co and that's a way to do it. this has caused a noticable amount of people to leave, which was the final straw and why I sent that message today. people I hadn't spoken to in a while appeared saying they left due to how it all felt so forced and fake, and that upset me. but I have thought this for a while even before this. there has to be a balance where we can work on saving the show and actually enjoying what we do have. an overwhelming amount of posts is about saving the show, not the show or books themselves. and I know not everyone is doing this, just by the way. I was hoping this could be achieved by toning down the constant reminders to post (not just official accounts mind you!!! this post is not targeting y'all !!! I promise) , or *looks at the camera* giving the people what they want already, but I don't even know anymore. I wasn't expecting the reaction I got, I genuinely thought it was a simple request to dial it down a bit and I'm sorry I caused an uproar 😭😭
