I find it funny how Hazbin Hotel and its stans praise its representation so much but when you truly look it into
The "representation" ain't good on many levels
The main lesbian couple? So little chemistry people prefer the straight ship between a misogynistic villain and his henchwoman
The gay men? They are simply fetishized to please the fujoshi creator and her fans
Chubby people? The only main one we have is written to be annoying and that's it
POC? You can't even tell that some characters are black
Representation of religion? You could change the names of the characters that come from the bible almost all the versions and nothing would change because Christianity is treated more like an aesthetic
People who are victims of SA, Work placement abuse, and even people who harm themselves as a way to cope? It gets downplayed a lot even Angel's whole arc gets diminished when it can already end if Charlie just asks Lucifer to kill Val BUT NOT EVERYONE HAS A FRIEND WITH HIGH STATUS AND POWERS VIVZIE
This is why I end up losing interest in shows when "representation" is a selling point cuz it feels like it never feels about representation but gaining brownie points
I'm actually sitting here trying my legitimate best to think of anything Viv's done a good job of representing.
I'd say adoption, except Loona's physically abusive to Blitzo and it's played for laughs. Maybe disability, kinda sorta, except for those disgusting joke subtitles for the actual hearing impaired.

Unpopular Opinion: Every time a black female character (especially if this black female character is dark skinned) enters into a relationship with the popular fan-favorite white male character usually one of three things happen a. the black female character is now headcanoned as a lesbian (never bisexual or queer or anything that would leave the character with the possibility of still entering into a relationship with a man) b. white male character is now shipped with other popular fan-favorite white male character/other white female character (the popular fan-favorite white male character is usually headcanoned to be bisexual and when he is, shipped with a woman that woman is always white) or c. black female character (and sometimes their actresses) is now being talked about as if they are the devil himself.
Wanting characters to explore their sexuality is fine but I always find it odd how this always happens when one member of the relationship is a black/blackish woman. *forgot to mention the suddenly polyamorous relationship the three (black female, white male and white male/woman) characters are now without a doubt in*
Anon you spoke nothing, but facts right here 🙌🏽
(The only thing I’d add is that they don’t just do this when the woman in question is with a white man, see Namor and Shuri and the backlash some shippers got for shipping them).
You aren’t the only one who has been noticing this trend.
I say trend loosely because really just a new stereotype to add to the bunch😒
It would be one thing if it was a want for actual representation, but every time now like clockwork. as soon as they see a Black woman who looks like she’s going to have a romantic arc with said popular fandom man, boom she must be gay😑
Hell, it’s getting so bad that these shows/movies are automatically just writing their Black women characters in that way.
If people can’t see how this can be harmful/dangerous, that’s cool, but anytime you want to paint all of a group a certain way and won’t show them in any other setting, that’s how you end up birthing new stereotypes.
This isn’t creating diversity. It’s limiting it(once again).
It’s so all or nothing with our media representation. Black women don’t want to be shown as one thing(which seems to go right over most people’s heads).
We just want the same opportunities as everybody else and not to be put into one or two narrow boxes of acceptable characterization that doesn’t threaten the status quo(aka you can't have Black women looking desirable especially not when there is an available white woman right there next to her).

There's gotta be a term for "I want this character to be fat/gay/a poc/etc but they're not exactly the nicest/best person and I fear people will accuse me of 'demonizing' that person 'because' of their body type/race/sexuality/gender despite the design and character writing being completely unrelated"
Edit addition: I guess this can be summed up as 'it sucks that the urge to make representation for people is constantly squashed by the reality that people will see 'imperfect representation' and freak out. It happens every time a piece of Queer media gets popular.

also i finally finished Into The Drowning Deep so i never have to look at it again
my review: legitimately one of the worst books i have had the misfortune of reading, made worse by the fact that its all of the tropes that i love and hold dearly. everything feels like a slap in the face to all that i adore. can't even write amphibians, ancient or otherwise, right, and it does poorly on the other scientific facts. you might be drawn to it thinking it'd be a fun found footage with spec evo mermaids. you would be wrong. it has marine biologist david peters who is right (of course she's right), a megalodon believer, and it doesn't get better.

The messy lesbians encouraging Crowley to confess their feelings to only get metaphorically and romantically dunked on is the chaos lesbian representation we need. They be meddling and being wrong about other people’s relationships and they be fucking up shit…as they should.

Just saw this on Quora and wtf:
I may not like Madoka Magica(and in fact anyone who follows me for long enough will know that I hate that anime with a burning passion), but even so that still doesn't make comments like this okay.
I am so tired of people acting like lesbianism(and non-straight identities in general but in this case we're talking about lesbians) is inherently sexual, deviant, and inappropriate. These are the same type of people who think that kids can't be gay or even be told about the possibility of homosexuality because it will groom their young minds or something, as if being gay is something you're groomed into being. And I am sick of people acting like a character can't be gay/lesbian because it doesn't fit their personality or because they're a child or because they're "innocent" or some stupid-ass shit like you're just reinforcing the idea that straight is the default and that straight is morally more pure and "normal" and acceptable than being gay. I bet Larry Koopa doesn't care if a kid the same age as or younger than Madoka(who is 14) is portrayed as straight, because to them that's not inherently sexual the way that being gay is. But a kid being gay? Now don't you think that's going a little bit too far?
This person definitely thinks that all lesbians are mean and hateful and bitter, probably because they measure a woman's level of decency in accordance to how attracted to men they are(which is how we got that ugly fucking "mean bisexual, even meaner lesbian" joke in the first place).
I agree with Peyton Peyons. Madoka is a lesbian, end of story, and nobody gives a shit whether you want to call her your waifu or not, because she doesn't even know you exist. Get out of her, dawg.

Gotta love my netflix and disney+ sitcoms with that one gay male main character. I obess over the relationship between him and the gay male side character who is his boyfriend for the duration of the time I am watching this show and that time only. And the other questionably straight main characters are always so protective over their precious gay bestie.
Plus, I love my gaydar being like correct during the first episode when they're introducing the characters. It's always right

This is such a Mood though.
Maggie: *dies*
Maggie: *comes back to life with superpowers*
Maggie: *spends the entire day being examined by specialized scientists trying to figure out what the fuck just happened*
Varsha: “I haven’t seen D.E.B.S.”
Maggie: “YOU HAVEN’T SEEN...?! And you call yourself a lesbian?! We are watching D.E.B.S. RIGHT NOW!!”
Exactly what I would have done in her position.

as much as i liked steven universe when i was younger, it bothers me so badly when people are like "there's so much representation in the show!!" when there really ,,,really isnt. People say "oh well all the gems are technically nonbinary!!" okay but..they're all fem presenting and use she/her pronouns. The only thing that steven universe represents is that nonbinary is literally just woman lite. The only thing steven universe represents is women and woman lesbians (no problem with lesbians btw)

me trying to explain that i love old movies, not because they represent a time period i yearn for, but because they are sometimes just fun and also because sometimes i do relate to those characters even when they are at their most outrageous and their most melodramatic because they were made and played by real humans who experienced all the same feelings of fear and anger and happiness that we do and to write them off as ‘dated’ or ‘old’ is such a horrific way to erase the lives of many people who felt just like you and i
