ABOUT ME ───

✶ Hey, I’m Asher (he/him). Welcome to my blog!

✶ I'm an OC-centric writer and traditional artist that’s new to writeblr/whumpblr, though I’ve been lurking for quite some time now, so I’m finally getting around to making this blog!!

✶ I’m open to meeting people and making new friends, especially anyone who has OC’s, because I adore hearing about others characters and the little stories they fit into. Don’t be afraid to chat about them with me!!

✶ My top-tier tropes are: Found family + found family breaking up, morally grey or “bad” characters, lovers to enemies, SIBLINGS (angst or otherwise it all destroys me), hurt/comfort, fantasy, childhood best friends that are something akin to family, and lots and lots of angst.

✶ Some things I will not write are: Proship (obviously), non-con, smut, cannibalism, plus anything super explicit or graphic.

✶ My main is @ash-thedrawer, so if you ever see me interacting with posts or comments, that’s what name it’ll be under. It’s turned into what is basically just spam, where I reblog fandom things/random posts I find funny. @dioles-writes is where I currently have all my works and art posted. The whole blog revolves around Dioles, a modern-fantasy story my friend created that I make art and collaborate on fics+ficlets for, though all the credits go to her. @cloak-and-dagg3r is where I’ll reblog anything writing, art or whump related, though it’s kept separate just for navigation purposes.

Since the beginning of time, magic users, also known as Magicae, have been ostracized from society, forced to hide and keep their powers a secret. Wren Chua, a 16-year-old Magicus, is trying their best to lay low out of sight, just get through high school, and conceal their magic. That is, before strange, magical disturbances start to pop up around them, and soon, they find themself in the middle of a centuries-long grudge between two mysterious organizations.

Yara has always heard of the old folktales about ghouls and spirits, called Noroi, that ravage their dying earth, slowly spreading decay and death. But she's never believed it. It's always just been a made-up story her mother used to scare the children from venturing out too far at night. Until one fateful night when she is 12 years old, where she finally comes face-to-face with one.

When Ada is murdered trying to save a group of people from these strange, demonic creatures, she is suddenly thrown into this world of magic, angels, and undead warriors. Which OC are you most fond of, and why?

David. I draw Davina more than David, by a lot, but David is my special little boy. He's the very first fursona I ever had, and he's still very near and dear to my heart.

Is there any form of media (other movies, books, theater, news, etc.) that inspired your wip/s? How so?

Visual Novels (which I'm working on one myself now!) and RPGs like Fable 2 and 3. Games where choices matter. I wanted to make a story that takes causality into account directly. Instead of writing back-to-front, where I have a pre-set conclusion, I write linearly. I've...essentially BECOME Malor, the God of Fate and Chance, from Relan.

I set very specific events that NEED to happen (David's incident with Trace, Ryder's employment with Kaleb, that sort of thing) and then allow the story to create itself in the in-betweens. What happens happens, and the choices matter: I let the characters breathe, live, do their own thing. I step into the shoes of an observer.

If I hadn't been so heavily inspired by games where the events are determined by free will and choice, I wouldn't write the way I do, and the story would be drastically different.

What wip-related activities do you do aside from writing your wip? (making moodboards or playlists, etc.)

Visual Novel XD I'm making a visual novel, and I draw now and then as well!

What are you most proud of in your wip/s and why?

The worldbuilding lore that most of the readers will never see XD

I put a LOT of work into building the world, before I ever wrote a single letter of the story, and most of it will never see the light of day unless I actually manage to finish the Relanian Lore Compendium

What tropes are common among your wip/s? Why do you enjoy incorporating these tropes?

Found Family, friends-to-lovers, affably evil, and irredeemably evil are my favorite tropes to use and pop up in almost everything I do XD

Which part of your wip are you most struggling and how do you plan to overcome it?

THE DOWNHILL CALM AFTER THE CLIMAX OF THE STORY. I've been struggling to write it for ages now. I finally hit the climax of the story and have been trying to write the final 2 chapters, and it's hard.

Supernatural said it best.

"Endings are hard. Any chapped-ass monkey with a keyboard can poop out a beginning, but endings are impossible. You try to tie up every loose end, but you never can. The fans are always gonna bitch. There's always gonna be holes. And since it's the ending, it's all supposed to add up to something. I'm telling you, they're a raging pain in the ass" - Chuck Shurley, Supernatural

Any advice/ words of encouragement or just really a greeting to any writeblr who would have read this far?

When you see those posts telling you how to be a good writer, giving all sorts of advice on the concepts of "show, don't tell", "don't over-worldbuild, don't under-worldbuild", "write this way, write that way"...

Fuck'em. If you're new enough to need advice, I promise, any advice like that is harmful. Start off just developing your style, your way. Learn how YOU write, what feels good to YOU. When you know your style, and you know what feels good to you, THEN learn the "rules".

Read like hell, both before, during, and after developing your style. When you have your style, learn the rules from an academic standpoint, learn the "correct" way to write.

And then adapt it. Bend the rules that suit you, break the rules that hurt your efforts, follow the rules that improve your work. Create your own set of rules and follow those instead of any standardized "This Is The Right Way" rules set by others.

That's my advice. Nobody can tell your story the way you can, so why should you follow anybody else's rules for writing?

i'm going to answer this for The Dragon Age Fic because... well. That's the only things I've really been working on all these years.

Under a cut because it got Long. As usual.

9. What is your favorite dialogue you’ve written so far?

Here's the deal - I think I'm not good at dialogue. I struggle to write it, and what comes out often always needs editing. But this bit was the first that came to mind. For context: this is in reference to An Unexpected Engagement. Tashak is my Inquisitor and Sekhara is her younger sister.

“Was gonna offer you this,” she ran a finger along the rim of the tankard she took from Bull. “But you seem to have taken care of yourself already.”

Tashak grunted. “Still not as drunk as I should be.”

“Well lucky I got here when I did, because from what I recall, you wanted to talk to me. Let’s do that before you get completely shitfaced, yeah?”

“Need another drink first.” Tashak waved down one of the serving lads, carrying a massive tray of tankards. Two full mugs were set down on the table, and within seconds one of them was half gone.

“You done?” Sekhara said drily as Tashak leaned against the table, head in her hand.

“Not quite. Still feel like shit.”

“Okay you’ve gotta start talking before you pass out because I am not going to carry you back to your room if you do, alright?” Tashak continued to stare intently at the table. Sekhara groaned and took a drink of maaras-lok. The fizzling in her veins turned into actual flame. “Besides, what are you doing here anyway? You’re usually cozied up with Josephine by now.”

That was evidently the wrong thing to say, judging from the way Tashak’s face twisted into something that made even Sekhara uncomfortable. The fingers around the tankard were now gripped so tight that the knuckles were turning white.

“Fuck, what’s wrong now? Did you go and fuck up something between the two of you again?”

“No.” The word seemed forced through gritted teeth. Tashak’s eyes were unfocused, staring into the distance. “It wasn’t me this time.”

“Tashak, for all that is good in this world, snap out of it and tell me what the fuck…”

“Josephine is engaged.”

There was a pause. The sound of wood cracking, a man swearing loudly before a fist connected with bone, the loud off-kilter singing, filled the space around and between them.

Sekhara blinked once. Blinked again.

“Well, I’ll be damned. Didn’t think you had it in you.” She leaned back in her chair, grinning at Tashak. “And to think you wanted to tell me first…”

“Wait what?” Tashak’s eyes widened. “No, no, no! What the fuck? I didn’t pro…”

She looked around, suddenly aware that her voice was carrying. Turning towards Sekhara she continued in an angry whisper, “… I didn’t propose.”

Sekhara’s brows creased. “Then who the fuck is Josephine engaged to?”

There was another pause.

“Please don’t tell me she’s in love with somebody else now.”

Tashak groaned and held a hand up but Sekhara was already standing up.

“I swear to all the fucking Old Gods, if she’s up and gone and dumped you after everything you’ve been through, I am going to punt her across the mountains so hard she reaches bloody Kirkwall…”

“Sit down, Sekhara.”

Sekhara sat down. There was no arguing with that voice.

13. What common trope(s) do you feel are used in this chapter/fic?

I only remember very few tropes off the top of my head, and all of them are ship related. Let's just say this is a slow-burn, mutual pining, friends-to-lovers sorta deal. Also something something racism/generational trauma/discrimination and a whole lot of other stuff that I need to make a note of honestly.

14. What have you been finding frustrating with writing this chapter/fic?

Oh god where do I begin. I'm doing something horrible, which is a) rewriting an entire game, b) fixing what I feel is broken and c) adding to what's already there with my own characters and my own spin on a romance. It's Really Hard. And to top it all off, I have a very demanding day job and am starting my masters on top of that. AND also have very severe anxiety over my writing/posting things online.

So yeah.

16. Write the next 5 sentences and share.

This is most likely going to be part of Chapter 2. I need to fuckin sort out everything I've written.

Her skin was a smooth grey, her hair an iridescent black. Two curling horns emerged from her forehead; their tips lost in the shadow surrounding them. In the candlelight, Josephine could not clearly catch the expression on her face, though she noticed the downcast eyes and the deep furrow in her brow.

She did not look up at either Josephine or the commander. But she shifted the arms that were in front of her, and the heavy jangle of the shackles around her wrist caught Josephine’s attention.

From one to five stars, how would you rate your writing? (No downplaying yourself!)

4.0, I've gotten better over the years, especially with just sharing over two ish years ago. I'd like to go back and brush up some descriptions but other than that I say it's good!

What do you think makes your writing stand out from other works?

I say the characters I decide to make each one of my characters are their own person that I can see being real. They are definitely my favorite part of my stories.

Are there any writers that inspire you?

Right now, Brandon Sanderson. I'm reading through his first novels now. The way he uses descriptions to worldbuild is amazing! And I love his characters

And all my friends on the server, the people over there write some incredible stuff!

What’s the fic you’re most proud of?

Stella Archer, I wrote that story in college it's a decade old & I never thought I'd finish it let alone share it! Stella's been with me the longest so you can see how I used to write then vs. now all in one series.

Which character(s) do you find easiest to write and which do you find most difficult to write?

Easiest to write: George Weasley cause anything goes with him. He's goofy, sweet, confident and a wildcard. That's really fun to play with.

Hardest/Challenging: Neville Longbottom & Druig. These two are my heads & tails. They are complete opposites. Druig's is inquisitive and there's a depth to him that I can relate too, and hes smart mouth, my favorite kind of guy lol.

Neville is soft, confident, brave & empathic. There are things i can have Druig do that i can’t do with Neville and vice versa. I could talk about their differences forever but they are still a fun challenge to write.

Who or what do you find yourself writing about most?

Usually whatever idea I haven't done yet or I want to try. I write a lot about superheroes or powered individuals. Often with my own spin 😏. Friends to lovers mostly.

Tell us about a WIP you’re excited about!

im working on the ending of Bloom, it's the last character arch for Neville. His eldest will be looking at school brochures and some of his past students will make a groundbreaking medicine for people who have pain caused from curses & his parents being among the ones able to get the medicine. Meaningful things happen & I'm excited to write it!!!

First fandom you ever wrote for?

Harry Potter; 😂 nothing has changed I still love the universe.

Any guilty pleasure trope(s)?

I dont feel guilty about them their all pleasures; so Soulmate AUs, soft dark, Coffee Shop AUs, threesomes, genderbending.

A trope you’ll never, ever write for.

A/B/Os the structure would be all over the place.

Wildest fic you’ve ever written?

Never Too Late, I put as many of my favorite tropes in there as I could. Soulmate AU, Coffeeshop AU, gross loving couple, old married couple, Tall boi, short girl…etc. And they fucked for a hobby. It was so nuts I made a game out of it in that universe had it's own rules & everything 😂 So much unhinged stuff happens in that fic & I don't regret any of it 😂.

Favorite pairing to write for? (platonic or romantic!)

OCs x main character. Which is usually an extension of me somehow cause i said so. Even the very few readers stuff i have i always pictured myself.

Do you listen to anything while you write?

I have a playlist for each story i have & i cycle through thoes whenever i need the vibes

Both, I like both

15. Have you ever daydreamed about side adventures/spin-offs from your fic? Tell us about them!

My ficts are day dreams haha. Hmmm I have a bunch of daydreams about Daphne & Charlie spending time with their parents as a family in some of the places they have traveled to when they didn't have kids. That and the adventures of Daphne & Lottie growing up. But I'm really stubborn about aging my OCs kids so most of them stop at a certain age.

16. Is there anything you’ve wanted to write, but you’ve been too scared to try?

Not scared, I just don’t know how to write it. I want to make my own villain somehow but i gotta figure out so many things first. Or the villain's spouse or something, it’s still on the drawing board. I don't do many dark things so it would be a challenge for me.

What’s the nicest comment you’ve ever received?

All the comments on my first dark oneshot, Sweet Dreams. It was just me playing around with Druig’s powers to a higher level then flooring it. It was fun & the ones of my first series Stella Archer that story is a decade old. So to get comments on that was special

Have you ever gone outside of your comfort zone for a fic? How did it turn out?

For Between the Shadows I did cause i was trying to portray my OC for that a certain way without making her sound boring. That was a hard fic for me in many, many ways. But it turned out great! I’ve never introduced an OC in a more profound way than I did with Juni and it was refreshing to experiment with that OC.

Tooth-rotting fluff or merciless angst?

I'm a sucker for both. I’ve written both.

Do you have any OCs? Tell us about them!

I have 13 fully developed ones and the rest are side ones. But here are some of my favorites!

Stella Archer-Asgardian Demi-god think of Gaia with all the powers of the elements. She has 4 kids. And married her highschool sweetheart George Weasley.

Flower- a nymph of mythology origins. Her power is growing flowers and plants from anywhere as long as she has a water source. She carries a pouch of soil around with her for such an occasion. She stayed with her love even though he was cursed by the flying dutchman.

Ruby Morgan- Charms professor, classic style of dress, her magic specialty is levitation she can make anything levitate with a snap of her fingers. She grew up in France raised by her Dad and her Grandmother. She can read Latin, speak French and loves cats.

Angus Kohler- Scottish, loves to drink. His magic specialty is tracking. He teaches Care of Magical Creatures. Head of Hufflepuff house. Werewolf, he’s Neville’s best friend and Ruby’s too. Plays the bagpipes at every graduation in full kilt attire that matches Hufflepuff.

If you could enter the universe of any one of your fics, which would it be and why?

I’d enter Never Too Late cause that OC is the closest to me irl and I basically gave her everything I wanted and didn't skip any details lol. I would gladly love to be in that universe.

Is there anything you wish your audience knew about your writing or writing process?

I wanna go back and write Kissed by the Land; CUrsed by the Sea as a darker tale but i have NO idea how but I totally could!!! I just played around with Fairytales in that one. Um my current series Bloom is almost over & I’m thinking of making a spin off of it only for Angus cause I love that man he’s my wildcard in every sense of the word lol.

I love writing main character x OCs so i have an excuse to run around in all my favorite worlds as different personas!

10. Top three favourite fic tropes.

okay my answer tends to surprise people so i just wanna say im a SUCKER for yearning and longing and realistic relationships, like ones where you see them grow alone & together. my top 3 tropes are:

friend to lovers, second chance romance, and.... exes to lovers.

friends to lovers will always hit for me, the realizations, the way they know each other so well, that fear to ruin that friendship. as for second chance/exes, i just LOVE a well-done second chance romance (so many of my wips are this). the longing? the knowing them so deeply? having that chance with them presented again? and then EXES to lovers?? amazing. as long as the breakup wasnt cheating. the desire to want to start again? to fix everything that went wrong? the memories of how they felt? how you loved them? realizing everything has changed except how you loved them?

i also have to put lovers to enemies. im an angst girly at my core and that is my FAVORITE angst. even childhood best friends to enemies ugh. i love. (the question asking for my fav three and i just gave 5, whoops)

23. Dialogue or description? Why is the other one so hard?

i will admit i struggle with both. dialogue tends to be easier for me to format bc i love banter/convos, but its hard to start off with dialogue because then it feels like theres TOO much. and it can be easy to depend on dialogue to reveal/progress the story without any other work. i do love descriptions but im such a yapper that i feel like i either over describe things or theres no description and they're just floating heads talking

36. How do you come up with fic titles? What's the one you're most proud of?

its a good mix of my favorite books, songs, poems, and just things i think of to myself. i do love Death and His Reaper because it was such a simple, pretty, and fitting title. i do love What We Make of What We're Made because it just sounds nice saying it ahaha and i have an unpublished related part called The Mother Will Send What She May which i adore too.

tbh the titles are sometimes my favorite part.

INTERVIEW WITH A WRITEBLR — @cavaleriesix

Who You Are:

James || He/him

I'm James, a 20-year-old writer, artist, a university student, and a warehouse associate. I write primarily contemporary/historical fiction with some fantastical elements. My current WIP, which I have been working on on-and-off since I was 9 years old, is called On Soldiers & Suns.

What You Write:

What genres do you write in? What age ranges do you write for?

Contemporary, fantasy, historical fiction, and poetry. New adult.

What genre would you write in for the rest of your life, if you could? What about that genre appeals to you?

Historical fantasy, probably. I love learning about different cultures and creating different supernatural systems; I love taking elements of history and incorporating them into a magical world of my creation.

What genre/s will you not write unless you HAVE to? What about that genre turns you off?

Sci-Fi. A futuristic aesthetic absolutely does not appeal to me.

Who is your target audience? Do you think anyone outside of that would get anything out of your works?

I don't really have a target audience, since I've received feedback on my work from friends I've made on Tumblr (around my age), a friend I know in real life (early 40s), and my dad (early 50s). I think my target audience is probably myself; I haven't received consistently positive feedback from any audience I've worked with. It's been spotty. But I think anyone can get something out of my work if they can look past the presentation.

What kind of themes do you tend to focus on? What kinds of tropes? What about them appeals to you?

Betrayal, faith, trust, brotherhood, fatherhood, birth, rebirth, corruption, regret, identity… I'm sure there are more. I still haven't quite figured out what a trope is, but one I've heard thrown around that I'm drawn to is the Found Family trope. They appeal to me because my writing, at its core, is a reflection of myself, a way for me to explore what hurt me, what I long for, and what I never got to have.

What themes or tropes can you not stand? What about them turn you off?

None come to mind. I'm not an especial fan of enemies-to-lovers, since a lot of the time I feel it's executed poorly and excuses the past transgressions of one or both parties toward the other.

What are you currently working on? How long have you been working on it?

I'm currently working on my main WIP, On Soldiers & Suns. I've been working on it on-and-off since I was 9 years old, but this iteration has been in the works for 5 years.

Why do you write? What keeps you writing?

I write because I feel I owe it to my characters and the world I've created, for everything those characters and that world has done for me. I keep writing because I want to share my characters and world with others and explore what hurt me and put it into words that maybe someone else can relate to. It's also a funny bit when I do it consistently.

How long have you been writing? What do you think first drew you to it?

I've been writing since I was little - maybe 6 or 7? I read a lot as a kid, and since I was a pretty lonely kid, I had a lot of time to think and create characters and my own world to escape to. I don't know why I started putting my thoughts into words. I guess I was inspired by the books I read.

Where do you get your inspiration from? Is that how you got your inspiration for your current project? If not, where did the inspiration come from?

I get my inspiration from a lot of things. Mostly the world around me and what I've been through, but anime, video games, and literature are inspirations of mine, too. I got my inspiration for On Soldiers & Suns originally from Super Smash Bros. and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, but things have definitely changed in the last 11 years (lol). I started writing this iteration of my WIP after I reread the Inkheart trilogy when I was 15.

What works of yours are you most proud of? Why?

I'm incredibly proud of the third book of On Soldiers & Suns, "Acacia." I have always loved it dearly for its complex plot and expansive cast of characters, the beautiful settings and the way I worded it, but it's also 900 pages single-spaced, 11-pt font, which is pretty impressive if I do say so myself.

Have you published anything? Do you want to?

Not yet. I would like to publish my work someday.

What part of the publishing process most appeals to you? What part least appeals to you? Why?

I just want to share my story with the world, but I really, really don't want to go through the pitching and editing process. It will be long. And tedious. My work is a hard sell.

What part of the writing process most appeals to you? What part is least appealing?

I don't know how to answer this, honestly. I like to write because I like to read my writing, because I like to see my world come to life, because I like to see people's reactions and hear their thoughts when they read my work for themselves. I hate when I don't have the motivation to write. It feels like I've lost my purpose in life. The past 6 months of writer's block have definitely taken their toll on me.

Do you have a writing process? Do you have an ideal setup? Do you write in pure chaos? Talk about your process a bit.

I honestly write whenever the mood strikes or whenever I feel guilty enough to try and come with a word or two to contribute to my poor document. My ideal setup is early in the morning, listening to the same song on endless repeat, with a cup of coffee and no other distractions, but that's not usually the case. I used to write before work (from 06:45-08:15 AM), but due to my writer's block and fatigue that's become nigh-impossible. I usually write from a vague, handwritten outline of events or from the previous draft (if I'm doing a rewrite), and I usually write using OpenOffice (although sometimes I'll write by hand).

Your Thoughts on Writeblr:

How long have you been a writeblr? What inspired you to join the community?

I've been a writeblr for around 4 years, since late 2018. I was inspired to join the community so that I could share my writing and my characters and hopefully be inspired and motivated by an uplifting community of people with the same passion as myself for their work.

Shout out some of your favorite writeblrs. How did you find them and what made you want to follow them?

Oh, man, there's so many. @goose-books, @werewolfsbutch, @vulturetime, @howdywrites, @sleepyowlwrites, @albatris, @nicola-writes, @ashen-crest, @mrs-mikko-rantanen, and a few others have always been incredibly kind and supportive of me and my work. Waya was actually one of the first people I followed on writeblr, if memory serves me correctly, who's still active, and I absolutely love his work and his characters (Benji!). I don't remember why or when I followed everyone else, but I love their thoughts, their kindness, their compassion, and their work. I really enjoy seeing them on my dash; they've really enriched my life.

What is your favorite part about writeblr?

The kind and uplifting atmosphere.

What do you think writeblr could improve on? How do you think we can go about doing so?

A lot, lol. The writeblr community has changed so, so much since 2018, and a lot of that has been negative in my eyes (or maybe I'm just nostalgic for an easier time. I don't know). The community has kind of started picking up again with the resurgence of Storyteller Saturday and Worldbuilding Wednesday, but a lot of the people I knew when I joined are inactive, deactivated, or rarely around anymore. My dash is almost devoid of actual writeblr content, and it makes me really sad because it makes it more difficult for me to interact with the community as consistently as I'd like to. I don't know how to fix this. It's probably a problem on my end.

How do you contribute to the writeblr community? Do you think you could be doing more?

Honestly? Not at all, lol. I could absolutely be doing more. I'm one of the writeblrs that has gone pretty much inactive when it comes to writing (and even art, more recently). Life has gotten really difficult for me, and I'm struggling to contribute like I used to. I try to boost posts and interact where I can, especially with art and shorter snippets, but I don't see writeblr content often, and when I do, I usually don't have the energy to interact in any meaningful way, and I don't like reblogging people's work without at least a brief reaction.

Do you have a favorite era of history you like to reference/write about/draw inspo from? Why do you think it's your favorite?

1920s! I really loved The Great Gatsby in my freshman year of high school and was (and still sort of am) OBSESSED with Baccano!. I'm always looking for new wips set in that time period (Prohibition, bootlegging, etc., you know the vibes)! I'm also a pretty big fan of late 1800s aesthetics and military aesthetics pre-1900. A lot of my main WIP revolves around soldiers.

Favorite character from Twilight Princess? Have you ever made a character, intentional or otherwise, based on them? If not, do you want to?

My favourite character from Twilight Princess is so, so basic. It's wolf Link, lol. The original version of Cav, Redstone, was partly inspired by the Twilight Princess aesthetic and vibe. You can see some Twilight Princess inspiration in the way the demons and gods in my story look and in the way I designed my OC Switzerland Siegal.

Who is your Smash Bros main? Does it change from game to game?

I don't actually play Smash Bros.! I've never played it consistently, but I haven't enjoyed it since Brawl when I was a kid. When I was a kid I always chose Bowser because his design in Brawl was really cool, lol.

About me: I love reading/writing and at any given moment I have too many projects circling through my head. I've loved to read for as long as I can remember and I've enjoyed writing things for that same amount of time. I also love video games and motorcycling, so if I'm not working on a wip I'm usually doing one of those two.

I'm not currently published, but I have a handful of original stuff I've been working on as well as fanfic. Some of my favorite tropes to read are found family, action/suspense, angst, horror/supernatural and slice-of-life. I tend to write very light sci-fi, action, supernatural, angst (though usually with a happy, if not bittersweet, ending) and occasionally somewhat comedic stuff. Sometimes, sometimes, I make shit get dark. I struggle with writing mystery and heavy romance, though I've been experimenting with the latter. A lot of my characters have somewhat sad backstories because apparently that's just what I do.

All of my works are primarily tagged under their full titles, the fandom name if it's a fic, "creative writing," "writers on tumblr," "fanfic" and "my writing." Anything extra will be listed.

Original WIPS:

Medical Mechanical: A story about a couple of friends who set out to uncover the truth behind the mysterious mega-corporation that has infested their town and done strange things to their parents. Sci-fi, young adult, and I guess it also sort of falls under action, although nothing major really happens until much later. Additional tag(s): "mm" and "sci fi."

It's the first original thing I began posting about and also my favorite original project. I actually do have tons more than what I've posted thus far, but I got caught up in perfecting it and then sidetracked and kind of just stopped talking about it.

The Set Up: A sort of enemies-to-lovers* story involving two old acquaintances meeting years later and being reminded of how much they piss each other off. After they end up stuck together on a camping trip that was nothing more than a mischievous plan by their respective friends, they're forced to deal with each other until the trip ends. (Very light) Romance*, slice-of-life, humor/comedy, and angst—mostly due to their past trauma.

It's the second original project I'm working on, although this one has taken a backseat to my other works because I'm still going through the process of reformulating it. I thought I had it figured out, and was originally going to have it take place in college and be a forced-by-friends camping trip gone wrong, but I just wasn't feeling it. I don't know, but the way it was coming along just... didn't feel right. So I decided to essentially start over rather than force myself through something I wasn't enjoying and that wasn't getting anywhere. The main theme is that the two MCs initially can't stand each other and butt heads, however, they eventually learn more about themselves and each other and start making amends.

*I'm also at a point where I don't think I'm going to keep it as romance, but instead have their relationship be platonic. We'll see.

Connection: Pokepasta/Glitchy Red fic about a girl who manages to befriend the embittered glitch. In other words, hermit high-schooler gets ahold of the titular Red cart and gets a new friend, and local depressed kids' game may not think life is so miserable anymore. Sci-fi/supernatural (because my version of Red is somehow both just a bunch of code and some digitalized cryptid entity,) very mild angst in the form of bullying, and found family/friendship. Additional tag(s): "glitchy red" and "pokepasta".

Fanfic:

I got the brainrot and just wanted something to write with no worries. I write a chapter and as long as it holds up the story it gets published. That's it. I'm taking a break from serious writing/editing with this one. I've already let it get too out of hand as is. It was supposed to be a two-parter. Now look at it.

Mysterious New Member: Fic about the BF5 gaining a new member under mysterious circumstances. Due to the secrets she seems to be hiding, and the rising tensions of the war, Vert and the others find themselves on edge and at odds over what to do. Takes place during Fused. Sci-fi, action/adventure, humor. Additional tag(s): "bf5," and "hot wheels battle force 5."

Fun fact: This is a fic I started when I was like 13. I recently began rewriting it because now I am not 13 and I was rereading it one day and went, "The fuck did I write it like this for???" So began my tedious work of redoing the whole thing. The original is actually still up on FFN under the exact same name, for the new one I only added rewrite to the title 😅 I'm not mad at myself for the way it came out or anything, as I was literally a kid, but I can safely say my writing has improved immensely and I just couldn't fight the urge revamp it. I'm quite proud of how this new one is coming along, being both an improvement of my original version and also a slightly daker and more interesting take on BF5. I'm actually close to done, I'd say about 75-ish percent. I really just have two more major plot points to go through and the rest is just tying up loose ends as I go along. That said, if you'd like to check out the abandoned original, feel free. Just be prepared for a bit of whiplash when comparing the two.

It's The Thought That Counts: Dead Plate AU fic I started on a whim and, like a lot of things, it got out of hand and became a fun little side project. Rody isn't hopelessly pining after Manon, who's still alive but not relevant to the story, and Vincent isn't a psycho cannibal killer. Essentially gay panic meets bi-denial, Rody attempts to impress Vincent by learning how to bake lemon-themed desserts after he discovers it's the only thing that gives him any semblance of taste. After a shaky start, Vince decides to start giving Rody lessons and they eventually come to terms with their feelings. Romance, humor, angst, slice-of-life.

I've actually never written proper romance before this and am absolutely shocked that it's coming along as well as it is. It's the most fluff I've ever written. For whatever reason, these two dorks are super easy for me to write. I also recommend checking out the game, it's super fun.

There is so much more, but I'm going to stop for now.

If it wasn't already obvious, writing is my biggest passion and I hope to keep improving and expanding what I do. I'm also always open to advice and constructive criticism, and I hope to inspire and help others with their writing. Also, if you write anything with the tropes or genres that I listed, don't hesitate to tag me and I'll check them out! I really enjoy reading other people's works.

Blood Red

So I’m just going to give you most of the scene that I had already teased for you instead of my favorite dialogue because I think that’s what you’d prefer so hope you don’t mind ;)

“Cirán, you cannot be serious!” Haldir exclaims as he struggles against the other elf’s hold preventing from marching back into surgery.

“You would leave my brother in the hands of an apprentice with this?” His voice is tight in outrage.

“Chief Marchwarden!” Cirán snaps. “She’s recent to us here in The Golden Wood, but not to her skills. Marchwarden,” their voice then softens, “Haldir, please, Rúmil is in good hands with her. She recognized the symptoms as soon as the rider came and has been preparing the whole hours since. Please, let us work.”

Haldir bites his tongue as he watches the unknown elleth cut open the dressing he’d wrapped himself around the jagged wound on his brother’s chest and side and begin flushing it with a mix of clean water and a pungent brew of dark herbs, only some of which he recognized.

Haldir takes a shaky breath and reluctantly nods before forcing himself to step back and off to the side. He clenches his jaw and sits in the chair provided by Cirán before the healer goes back to assisting with the work ahead.

Haldir, The Lady’s voice sounds clear in his head, startling him from his thoughts. Celeborn tells me the patrols have destroyed the orc holdout responsible and are bringing in the poisoned blades to the healers for inspection. Expect them in the hour. I have already let Nestál know, as well. How is Rúmil fairing?

Haldir closes his eyes and takes a short moment before responding, attempting to will away some of the latent adrenaline and underlying panic in his body.

No worse than before we set off, my Lady. The new healer apparently has seen something similar before and she’s taken the lead in his healing, he responds.

Ah, slight amusement and warmth filters through their óswanë link. Yes, I imagine she has. She pauses before adding.

Haldir, rest. Let the healers take care of Rúmil. Orophin is on his way in from the south outpost, as well. You take care of our people well, let them help you. Take this time to be with your brothers, we’ll hold steady until you return.

Haldir flounders for what to say and his hands clutch at his own over cloak now torn in three separate places and soaked through with his own brother’s blood. He wants to argue but knows he can’t. There is nothing for him to argue against, except perhaps his own stubbornness and sense of duty.

Of course, my Lady. Thank you.

Be at peace, Marchwarden. Today has been a dark day, but all will be well. She soothes before withdrawing from his mind.

Haldir sighs and begins to compile a list of all the reports he’d need to complete and patrol routes they’d need to revise. He rubs his temples and settles in the chair for the long vigil he knows he has ahead of him.

Ice Blue: Tropes that are Overused

Miscommunication

Friends to lovers, especially childhood best friends to lovers. Esp esp if it’s they grew up in the same household but aren’t related. You’re emotionally related like ??!

Enemies to lovers, but like snarky enemies/frenemies to lovers. Real enemies to lovers is Some Good Shit.

Men being toxic but still getting away with it because they’re “protecting” a person (esp women) from something they didn’t understand and they end up being “right” in some way. Gross -10000/10

Love triangles - just make everyone queer and/or poly; solves all the goddam problems imo. (This is why I like Iron Widow so much) But I mostly hate this because the woman is a Plot Device and not a good one or she seems like the bad person because two men both decide not to leave her alone which is bs.

Bonus tropes I LOVE: found family, there was only one bed/room, hurt/comfort/whump fics and the wound stitching and begging those not to die that comes with it, holiday fics

writerly thumbprint challenge

Rules: look back on your work, both past and present, finished and unfinished. what are five (or more!) narrative elements, themes, topics or tropes that continuously pop up in your work?

I'm including all the wips that exist in my head and will never be written otherwise I'll have like,,, 3 things to consider hahaha

Character Driven: This is the big one, everything I write is character driven. It's all about character relationships to each other and themselves for me, and solid character arcs. Plot is important ofc but characters are where I shine and where I put the most energy.

Religion: Idk why I'm so deeply drawn to this, but my current original wip is basically just an exploration of my feelings on the subject. Most of my ocs are directly related to religion as well; for instance all my main tes ocs are paladins each having a vastly different relationship with what that means and with Mara herself. I'm also deeply fascinated by what it means to be Divine, and projecting deeply human flaws onto gods. Tearing them away from ideals and turning them into characters.

Monstrosity: This one is pretty cut and dry; my gay neurodivergent ass has a monster complex, so I write a lot of characters who feel like or are monsters. Especially characters who are isolated from their normal families due to that monstrosity.

Healing through Community: Especially in relation to the aforementioned monstrous characters. I love the trope of true love saving someone, of a character being changed through being loved, and I think it's even better when extended beyond romantic love and into familial or platonic love. No one person can save another, but surrounding someone who feels alone with love can be healing, and can give them the strength to grow and change. I guess this also goes with found family.

Friends to Lovers: what can I say. Even my enemies to lovers are usually friends to lovers on some level. I love slow burn romance where the characters involved deeply care for and respect each other, and love blossoms between them over time BECAUSE of that care and respect. Characters who will stand by each other against the world, who see the best in each other and help them see it in themselves. Characters who stick up for and defend each other. Thats the good shit right there.

Heyo Iris! Thanks for the ask!

So... the sky/void chapters, huh? I've already put together a general concept for that, even though I'm sure I won't get around to writing Akasha until this fall at the earliest, since it's the fifth element.

For the dream sections (Akasha-Surya and Akasha-Chandra):

I'm keeping with the dark fairy tale vibes all the way through, but also added Greco-Roman elements. It'll definitely involve the Ganymede myth, combined with other supernatural concepts. The primary prompt was 'moonlight', the secondary prompts were 'ageless' and 'ethereal beauty' - all of which tie extremely well to the Ganymede myth (alongside the general lover/beloved trope going on with this pair). Also 'sound' is the primary sense here. Since the myth involves being taken to a new place (in the sky, in a timeless void - following the element), Annie (@udaberriwrites) gave me this cool suggestion of going the fae route with this, since they also exist in a different time-space and legends relating to them often involve being taken to other worlds. Another friend of mine, Pearl, suggested I keep the Asian themes and use myths around celestial maidens/beings (Japanese, also Indian and maybe others, perhaps?) - so I'll look into that as well. Also, Edward is the sibling associated with this element... but remember how you gave me the prompt 'cat' some time back? Well, that somehow clicked in my head - it was a missing piece I had signs of, but didn't explicitly realize until you gave me that prompt. There is now a black vampiric kitten (possible shifter, still working that out) named Orion - and he'll show up in all the chapters and in Apricity as well. Annie's already a fan of his XD

For the reality section (Akasha-Nakshatra):

Mike is generally chilling out at the cafe, relaxing away from his crowded, loud house that afternoon. Edward shows up and they talk games and such. Mike's a little suspicious, since Edward doesn't really talk to him outside of school-work - Beau's the only one, after all. Eventually, Edward gives Mike a cryptic warning about the next day (this takes place on Friday, the next day is Saturday, the Seattle trip), and Mike gets even more suspicious of him. He thinks things over and packs for the night, wondering about the next day and what Edward was referring to. It's meant to be kind of cute, a little pre-slash-like? Even though it'll take a while for Akasha to be written, Akasha-Nakshatra will be referenced in Indigo, since Mike and Edward meet again in Seattle on Saturday, and the previous day's events can't be ignored.

English Breakfast: Favorite trope?

Idiot-plots- If done right, these make for some of the best explorations of humanity and the depths of desperation.

Enemies/rivals/general dislike to friends/lovers- I love narratives where the characters can go from hating each other to being friendlier. I usually prefer platonic ones, but romantic ones are fun too.

Enemies to Enemies (who sometimes are ok with each other)- Roland and Henry have the best dynamic. If they were in a more comedic work, they'd definitely have way more fun.

Ginger: Most challenging part of your WIP?

For my injury fic: Balancing how much I want a character to rely on the other. I dislike when characters become far too dependent on another, but that's also the point of an injury fic so... it's been quite difficult.

For my Modern Re-imagining thing: Figuring out the timeline. Tbf, it's an ambitious project so this was expected, but that wip has become a mess over time.

For The Losing Game: Chapter 7 and Chapter 10-12. The former was the first time Roland and Henry would meet and it was difficult to figure out how they'd interact with each other. The latter was supposed to be one chapter, but I had too much material and ended up with three.

Earl Grey: Favorite quote from your WIP?

Injury fic: "After his servant left, Basil swore that when that damn portrait was done, he'd avoid anything orange. Maybe he'd recover from both his exhaustion and color-related troubles with a break from painting all together."

Modern Re-imagining thingy: (This is super out of context, but I love it a lot) "He stared at the colorful stained glassed windows and closed his eyes. He wished he had stayed home. He wished that he had never agreed to meet. He felt like a child—he wanted to go home, he didn't want to play anymore, he just wanted—"

The Losing Game: (Fun Fact: I stole this from my Modern Re-imagining thingy) "Basil smiled, then giggled, then laughed—a horrible cacophonous sound breaking the peaceful silence. But he kept laughing despite the empty home mocking him for doing so, despite the lack of something funny, or the tears that began to stream down his face. And even when he broke down and began sobbing, tainted by unfathomable anguish, he pretended that he was still laughing."

8. Why did you start writing? Do you think you'll ever stop?

I started writing reluctantly, actually! I got very bored and tired easily from homework related writing, never really knowing the joys it could bring when you're able to create your own world and characters and build and build and build.

For a time, I just wrote fanfiction without realizing I was writing fanfiction! Just combining my favourite anime and my friends and I in various scenarios. I loved it!

But in relation to the second half, I actually did stop for a very long time. I was incredibly depressed without understanding what was happening, and no matter how much I wanted to write, any time I looked at a Word document, I would instantly fall asleep. My brain shut off because it couldn't deal with the weight on my mind. I stopped for about... seven, eight? Years? Maybe more.

But now I'm hyperfixated and while there are a lot of unfinished wips, I don't think the urgency to create via writing will be reduced for some time. It's become a comfort and legitimate coping mechanism. It has genuinely kept me alive.

This went a little heavier than anticipated, sorry! Moving on—

12. Now that you have more experience, is there anything new you’d like to try (a trope, genre, style etc)? What is it?

Hmm... not really? I have a niche, and that's fantasy haha. Action / adventure is my baby. And so is isekai, apparently.

Self inserts / isekai's give me the ability to see through my eyes and respond to the world around me and the world around me to respond in a way I find realistic. For me, it carries that realism in creating a premise that people can be more legitimately invested in, and fun!

15. In your opinion, why should people give writing a try?

You can literally do whatever you want forever! This goes without saying for all creative pursuits, but I feel like people have forgotten how much............. how less problematic it is to just. Go write your own shit instead of hounding each other or the producers of the media.

Don't like that pairing? Go write about how they break up. Make it messy. Make it amicable. Make it bittersweet. Do whatever.

Feel like you could be a better lover? Write your ass in the damn media all ready, smooch your blorbo! You can do that!

Fuck, I've been doing it for years!!! It's fantastic.

It also is an outlet that is incredibly healthy. It is an avenue most therapists recommend for letting out steam. Remember diaries or journals for venting? Do that with your blorbo, or your most pathetic meow meow villain! Have a sexy dual in the rain while dealing with inner conflict!!! Or whatever you're into!!

The world you create is your own pearl. <3 Have fun.
